removal. The patient had developed cysts in the brain seventeen years ago in 1998 leading to

brain cysts, the patient underwent a ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement. Two years after the shunt
was placed, the patient underwent another procedure for shunt revisions due to complications with

The Congress of Racial Equality, (CORE), was founded in 1942 on the campus of the University
of Chicago. The founders James Farmer, George Houser, Bayard Rustin, and Bernice Fisher
unquestionably had to want to make a difference on segregation. In June of 1964, three civil rights
activists, Andrew (Andy) Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael (Mickey) Schwerner were
murdered by members of the KKK (Klu Klux Klan) while working as volunteers for CORE s
Freedom Summer registration project in Mississippi. These individuals risked their lives so African
Americanpeople could have the same rights as Caucasian people. This foundation is important on
the road to racial equality, because they were participants of, The March On Washington, and they
started many other organizations like, The Freedom Summer, The Freedom Rides, and many more.

Under Post Master Walter Folger Brown, a plan was devised to eliminate reckless competition
(Wensveen, p 49), and since United supported the postmasters plan, was awarded the northern of
three main airmail routes within the country.
The 1930 s also saw something unique that still shapes airlines today. Ellen Church of San
Francisco and a registered nurse, became the first airline stewardess in the history of the airlines.
Partly to help the public feel safe about flying, a woman was chosen who also was a nurse to help
passengers in flight and was approved by Pat Patterson, future United Air Lines President

The airline we see today was solidified with the Airmail Act of 1934. Signed by President
Roosevelt, the airmail act regulated equipment needed for specific routes, and eliminated a lot of
smaller regional airlines/air transport companies from operations. Also, it barred airlines and
