Importance Of Boys Underachievement In Reading And Writing
Although there is evidence that proves boys underachievement in reading and writing in contrast to
girls , it is important to first note that there are sources that identify boys being less committed to
school than girls, but why is this? A significant aspect is boys attitude to school and examinations.
Weis (1990) effectively argues that the majority of boys are not concerned with excelling in school,
but only with passing. This evidence strongly suggests that boys attitude to education is significantly
lower than girls due to only requiring to pass exams instead of exceeding their limitations and
reaching their full potential. A positive attitude to education is essential to ensure all pupils obtain
higher than satisfactory academic achievements, resulting in a high quality learning experience,
although there are also numerous factors that contribute to boys underachievement in reading and
writing and the ways it can be tackled.
Boys underachievement in reading and writing can be traced to activities within their household. For
example, it is not common that young boys witness their father reading novels instead of newspapers,
yet there is evidence to suggest that young boys are strongly influenced by this. Pickering (1997, p.
49) supports this by expertly stating that, it seems hard to deny that children are affected to some
extent in their learning by the home. As a result, it can be argued that mothers are to blame as they are
the ones reading stories to their

Scapegoat Trevon Analysis
Once upon a time, there was a scapegoat TreVon. Let me tell you the story. TreVon was a small little
boy who always got in trouble so he was the perfect scapegoat. It was a fall morning in late October.
The leafs so the tree begun to change color. TreVon got up for school as usual. Little did he know his
whole life was about to change in the blink of an eye. He always got things blamed on him because he
was the youngest, but he could never imagine this.
TreVon was rushing to get out the door. He knew if he missed the buss one more time he was going to
be in big trouble. He s older brothers Luther and Jaron never favored him anyway. So they did not care
if he missed the bus. TreVon was very smart kid but he wanted to be cool so he did not care about his
grades. The boy s mother worked 13 hour shifts at a old mill house. His mother Mary did not like
TreVon outside during the late hours of the night. Today was the day he probably wished he ... Show

He walked over to TreVon and his friends wanting to know why they were out so late on a school
night. As he got close he could smell the smoke even stronger realizing the smoke was from the kids.
He asked the group who brought the cigarettes. Nobody answered him, so he said, I guess I will have
to call everybody s parent . Blake pointed at TreVon and said, Officer he gave us the smokes . TreVon
looked confused in the face. Wondering why Blake would lie on him like that, he thought they were
friends.
Officer James took TreVon home. He explained to TreVon mother Mary that her son was caught at a
park smoking. He did not even get a chance to say anything. Mary said to the officer i will handle him
and pulled TreVon in the house. Mary made TreVon clean the whole house. He was not allowed to
leave the house for anything. His mother quit her job and stayed home to home school him. His
friends never heard from him after that

Essay about Describing Dunkirk
Describing Dunkirk On the 20th May 1940the allied troops were trapped by the Germans on the
Northern coast of France. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the Belgian
Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill gave the
command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord Gort (leader
of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south trapping the
troops. The evacuation was organised by Admiral Ramsey and codenamed Operation Dynamo with
the main objective to rescue as much of the B.E.F as possible. This evacuation began on May 27th
from the beaches of Dunkirk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were killed,
wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s equipment would
be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the Navy suffered 243 ships
sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged) and the RAF lost 474 aircraft.
Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat. It is a photographic source showing
Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach littered with equipment, corpses and debris.
Off the shore are broken half sunken ships with those that have become beached, one possibly a
military boat and also many smaller vessels. The photograph of the dead soldiers shows military
defeat as the objective was to rescue the B.E.F and would be very demoralising for the British public.
The large boat could belong to the navy and would be very valuable, loss of this would be very
expensive, along with the rest of the abandoned equipment. The source seems reliable as it is first
hand primary evidence. It is useful for showing defeat as it displays what it looked like at Dunkirk
after the evacuation. Its also backs up my own knowledge as the B.E.F lost 68,111 men and you would
expect bodies on the beaches where

The Pros And Cons Of Firefighter Grieving
On average there are there are 70 on duty firefighter fatalities in the United States every year. (
Firefighter Fatalities in the United States ). This means that an on duty firefighter dies about every 5
days. Firefighters have enough stress with their everyday job, then you add losing a fellow member it
puts another level to that stress. Imagine two siblings go out to play basketball like they do multiple
times everyday and one of them end up dying in a freak accident. Horrible right? It is the same thing
with firefighters. They go out on a call. There is a freak accident and there is not a great outcome. The
death of a fellow firefighter is like losing a brother or sister because you are living with them for
almost one third of your life. (Johnson). Firefighters are one big family. There has always been
firefighter fatalities. The questions has always been: How to deal with one when it happens. What is
the right amount of time off for grieving? Should there be mandatory counseling? Who do we bring in
to support the firefighters? The problem is that every fatal incident ... Show more content on

Grieving is a large part of the healing process. When there is any death anyone who is close with the
person grieves. The closer someone is to the person the longer it may take for them to finish the
grieving process. Giving firefighters mandatory time off for grieving is another way to deal with
firefighter fatalities. Failure to provide emotional and psychological support may result in the
resurgence of emotions during stressful situations, which may have a detrimental impact on safe
operations. (Theil, 19). Providing time for grieving is important. The problem is that the fire
department has to run and it cannot run without the firefighters. Giving mandatory grieving works in
theory but in reality there would not be anyone to run the fire

Post Purchase Observation
The product that I recently purchased, and was satisfied with, was a Kent bicycle I bought for my son.
According to the book The Economist: Marketing, this particular product is considered consumer
goods . It was quite a purchasing process, and in the following paragraphs I will share with you the
steps I took to complete this purchase.
The first step, need recognition , was fairly simple: we moved from Hawaii and had to sell my son s
bike due to high shipping costs from the islands to the mainland, therefore, we were needing to buy a
replacement bike. We promised our son that if he were to make the sacrifice of giving up his old
bicycle, we would not only make sure the new one would be better quality, but he could also pick out

it would take some time to find a rental, so we wanted a motel that had weekly rates, which not all

we needed to find a motel that was in the surrounding area so we would not have to travel very far to

Rich s Philosophies
Rich 18
Every person has his own philosophy which ultimately guides him through each day. If a person
believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his
beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those
who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their
mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees
the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the
Bible. The Bible is the Word of God which reveals how man came into existence, man?s purpose on
earth and even some of God?s plan for the future. The Bible is God?s primary tool that He uses to
show His love and guide a Christian through his life. All religions have some sort of god or figure that
is worshipped. Out of all the false gods, none can compare to the God of the Bible. He is the one ...

desire to be like God in power and authority caused them to fall away from Him. Ultimately forcing
God to cast the rebellious angels out of Heaven. Satan, a fallen angel, came to the earth in the form of
a serpent and tempted Adam and Eve in the same way he was tempted. God Specifically told Adam

were to eat of the tree they would be like God. Adam and Eve?s desire to be like God caused them to

The Effects Of The Seebeck Effect
Introduction
1.1 Seebeck Effect
When two ends of a conductor are held at different temperatures electrons at
the hot junction at higher thermal velocities diffuse to the cold junction. Seebeck
discovered that making one end of a metal bar hotter or colder than the other produced
an EMF between the two ends. He experimented with junctions (simple mechanical
connections) made between different conducting materials. He found that if he created
a temperature difference between two electrically connected junctions (e.g., heating
one of the junctions and cooling the other) the wire connecting the two junctions
would cause a compass needle to deflect. He thought that he had discovered a way to
transform thermal energy into a magnetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
➢ TH and TC are the hot and cold thermocouple temperatures, respectively, in ok.
The reverse of the Seebeck effect is also possible: by passing a current through two
junctions, you can create a temperature difference. This process was discovered in
1834 by scientist named Peltier, and thus it is called the Peltier effect. This may sound
similar to Joule heating described above, but in fact it is not. In Joule heating the
current is only increasing the temperature in the material in which it flows. In Peltier
effect devices, a temperature difference is created: one junction becomes cooler and
one junction becomes hotter. Although Peltier coolers are not as efficient as some
other types of cooling devices, they are accurate, easy to control, and easy to adjust.
Peltier effect devices are used coolers for microelectronic devices such as
microcontrollers and computer CPU. Peltier found there was an opposite phenomenon
to the Seebeck Effect, whereby thermal energy could be absorbed at one dissimilar
metal junction and discharged at the other junction when an electric current flowed
within the closed circuit. the thermocouple circuit is modified to obtain a

How Did Stalin Gain Power
Conversely, Stain s tendency to grasp opportunities and advance in situations was pivotal in
explaining his rise to power by 1929. Historian S, Phillips argues that Stalin was undoubtedly skillful
in using the circumstances that presented themselves in 1924 and opportunities that arose thereafter to
overcome his opponents in the party . This view supports the idea that Stalin used his political
shrewdness and skills to outwit his colleagues for the battle for power and positioned himself in
situations that he could benefit from and gain advantages which is an alternative factor to the Party
machine argument as the main reason for Stalin s dominance of power. It is correct to argue that Stalin
had begun to lay down the foundations of power during Lenin s latter years and used his powers

Essentially, this shows Stalin used his political skills to manipulate the situation to his advantage
suggesting that he was particularly cunning and wise. An example of this that supports the view of S.
Phillips was displayed at Lenin s funeral, where Stalin was able to strengthen his own position by
establishing his character as Lenin s most faithful disciple . Stalin s use of the funeral to align himself
to the Lenin legacy shows an example of his potential opportunism within the party, as claimed by
Tucker who stated that Stalin was not the only rival for power using Lenin s legacy to further his
career the others were as well, but Stalin was better at it . This view supports the argument of Phillips,
suggesting that Stalin s personal attributes and use of opportunism facilitated the consolidation of
power over his rivals. His use of the oration to present himself as chief mourner highlighted the
necessity to continue the works of Lenin by applying his essential ideas to Communist

Comparing Lois And Peter Griffin From Family Guy
One example of a traditional family depicted on television is Lois and Peter Griffin from Family Guy.
Lois is a stay at home wife while Peter works at the Quahog Brewery. Although the show focuses on
the family s dysfunctionality it does portray how the traditional family works. A lot of the time Lois is
shown taking care of Stewie (the baby) and doing housework such as cooking. Peter is almost never
shown taking care of the baby or doing any housework. Some of the benefits they receive from this
family structure is getting to spend more time with their child while also not paying a day care and the
housework being done. The experiences the Griffins go through on a daily basis do support my initial
opinion on the ideal family structure. Now a days

Why Are Internships Important In Social Work Degree Programs
Laura: Why Are Internships Important in Social Work Degree Programs?
The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) recommends accredited social work degree programs
to offer internships and practicums. The CSWE s Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards
states that internships are a kind of field education that must meet certain requirements. Internships
must be directly associated with an accredited social work program at institution of higher learning.
The internship should have academic structure with established classroom objectives. Students should
be offered educational credit, the internship should be supervised by a social worker and schools
cannot substitute internships for mandatory classroom training.
http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation.aspx The Benefits of a Internships for Social Workers

that social workers face is transitioning from a comfortable educational setting to the social work field

foundation skills that are properly developed through educational institutions that follow the CSWE s

Idol In The Prince
The main influence on society are the people with the most power, who the average everyday person
aspires to be. What makes someone an idol ? An idol is a person or thing that is greatly admired,
loved, or revered; a person who individuals yearn to be. People have a need to seek themselves in
others, it is a characteristic of human nature to want to belong and fit in. This is what can make an idol
or celebrity so influential and powerful. People admire people of power because they have traits,

The ideal idol gained their power through being remarkably intelligent and liable. Machiavelli is the
perfect example of this, gaining his power through being a political leader, accessible for people to
seek themselves in. This justifies people s need for power, and therefore envying Machiavelli, due to
his political power. Machiavelli influences the modern political science we still use today, and
continue to pave his paths. His book, The Prince uses Renaissance values and applies them to politics,
intriguing most everyone. His book targets powerful men, teaching them how to gain and maintain
power. It is not at all necessary for a prince to have all the good qualities which I have named, but it is
necessary to seem to have them (Machiavelli). Although Machiavelli gained his power, not every man
can, to this extent, Machiavelli is saying that in order to build the status of an idol, you must project
the idea of power. It is of known fact that people with power are admired, thus, Machiavelli wrote a
book teaching individuals how to gain power, and become and idol themselves. This allowed
Machiavelli to create a stir and shock the Western world (ABC Clio), and become the idol that we
know him as today. Machiavelli is the turning point where men start to value power, seeking to find

Theodore Geisel Quote
I take this quote by Theodore Geisel to mean that when you speak your mind and be yourself, those
who criticize or shame you for being who you are and sharing your thoughts and opinions shouldn t
matter to you and the people who really matter won t be mad that you chose to show who you are.
There are many different situations in which these apply. Some situations include attending junior
high and high school, applying for college and jobs, and sharing political viewpoints. As Sol Luckman
said, I just want to live my own life instead of everyone else s version of it. And this quote shows that
instead of lying to others about how you feel, you should just be yourself. This quote by Geisel
matters in junior high and high school because near that time peer pressure tends to become prevalent.
The reason that most teenagers succumb to peer pressure isn t the fear of saying no to your friends. It s
the prospect of being alone. The main consequence of saying no to negative peer pressure is not just
withstanding the heat of the moment, as most adults think. Rather, it is coping with a sense of
exclusion as others engage in the behavior and leave the adolescent increasingly alone. It is the loss of
the shared experience. Further, the sense of exclusion remains whenever the group later recounts what
happened. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Children perceive fictional characters as a model. They tend to imitate the parts that a fictional

Perhaps, the reasons these films are so popular and influential to children is simply because their focus
is directed distinctively towards them. Each character in Disney films possesses a distinct personality
wherein children who watches these films may tend to characterize themselves as the character also.

Discuss how psychology developed as a scientific discipline
Prior to psychology being recognised as a scientific discipline in its own right, it was mainly a
philosophical concept developed by theorists in areas such as animism and dualism. However, these
philosophies were not based on objectivity unlike today s psychology which maintains that for an
investigation to be deemed scientific it must be based on the scientific method, which involves
gathering empirical and measurable evidence. A key figure in the development of psychology as a
science is René Descartes; a French philosopher and mathematician. Descartes was most influential in
his recognition of the body and mind being two separate entities. Descartes differed from ... Show

Bishop George Berkeley argued that there may indeed be no such thing as matter, as Locke claims that
all we ever see if primary and secondary qualities. Berkeley s ideas are called idealism, and essentially
state that all ideas come from the senses. However, it cannot be disputed that the work of Locke and
Hume was greatly influential in psychology s development as a scientific discipline. Indeed, these
notions on habit and causality became important in the development of behaviourism and the work of
Jean Piaget. The birth place of psychology as a scientific discipline was in Germany, with Wilhelm
Wundt becoming the founding father of psychology as he was the first person to describe himself as a
psychologist and to publish the first textbook on psychology. Wundt and many other German scientists
held that the human mind can be studied scientifically. Germany was the birthplace of psychology as
academics were open to the notion that psychology could be studied scientifically and not in a
traditional philosophical way like other academics believed. Germany was also central in the
development of experimental physiology, which was important in the progress of experimental
psychology. Wundt was also responsible for developing the first proper school of thought in
psychology: structuralism. Wundt also followed on

Greek Mythology Of Ancient Greece
Beautiful architecture, democracy, theatre, and the Olympic games; these are just a few of the many
wonders Ancient Greece had to offer. However, one of the most memorable creations of Ancient
Greece would have to be Greek mythology. These myths included hundreds of stories and teachings
that would have a lasting effect on Greek culture for centuries to come. When taking a deeper look
into some of these myths, one may notice gender and sexual behavior to be themes that occur quite
frequently. One also cannot help but notice that some social conditions in Ancient Greece, such as the
importance of beauty, the treatment of women, and beast like sexual behavior, revolved around sex
and gender. It is because of the use of gender and sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these myths regarding sexual behavior include sexual relations with some sort of animal. An
example of this is the story of Leda and the Swan. Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, a
book by E.M. Berens, explains that Zeus came down in the form of a swan to consort with Leda
(Berens 34). The result of this encounter was the birth of Helen and Pollux. Leda was one of the many
mortal consorts of Zeus which gives an idea of how common this was in Greek mythology. Another
example of bestiality in Greek myths is the story of Pasiphae and the bull. As told in Apollodorus,
after disobeying the word of Poseidon by not sacrificing a bull he was sent; Minos, ruler of Crete, was
punished. However, his punishment was not cast upon him, rather Pasiphae, his wife. Pasiphae
became passionate for a bull and with help from Daedalus, an architect, created a contraption to assist
in achieving sex with this animal. The contraption was a success and Pasiphae gave birth to Asterius,
who is then named the Minotaur (Apollodorus. 3.1.4). In this story bestiality is taken a step further.
Not only does Pasiphae have intercourse with the bull, but she goes as far as leaving her human form
to do so. This beast like sexual behavior rippled from these stories into the culture and society of
Ancient Greece.
One way we see this ripple effect is the occurrence of incest in Ancient Greece. In Consubstantiality,
Incest, and Kinship in Ancient Greece, a

Notes On Romeo And Adolescent

North Korea and Kim Jong Un
Kim Jong Un is the the 29 year old ruler of North Korea, one of the most distinctive and unpredictable
countries in the world. It is a cocktail of poisonous elements: autocratic, repressive, isolated and poor
(Powell). Its regime is dangerous not only to its people but also to the rest of the world. Its actions have
had an unsettling impact on international relations in northeast Asia, particularly its nuclear tests in
2006 and 2009 and its shelling of Yeonpyeong Island in 2010, all of which led to tensions between

Today, everyone in a position of power in North Korea is at least twice Kim Jong Un s age and vastly
more experienced (Powell). But they continue to salute him at a moments notice. Any disrespect has
meant at minimum, a sentence in North Korea s notorious gulag and at worst death. Consider one
especially brutal case: in the mid 1990s, just as the famine that would eventually kill millions of North
Koreans was taking hold, reports of grumbling and dissent in a prominent Korean People s Army s
division reached Pyongyang (Powell). Kim Jong Il, according to an intelligence source, had the unit s
officer corps several dozen men arrested and then made the enlisted men watch what could potentially
be their future. The arrested officers were required to lie in the middle of a road, their hands and legs
tied. Several tanks rumbled forward and ran back and forth over the officers, crushing them to death
(Powell). This combination of mercilessness, beliefs and seclusion lead many observers of North
Korea to believe that there is no question Kim Jong Un will be making the decisions now, says a
former intelligence analyst in East Asia. He may make the decisions, but they will be based on
information filtered through those around him, men who are not peers but elders (Powell). In addition

An Example of a Graduation Speech
Ladies and gentlemen, friends and families, teachers and graduates of 2014, good evening,
Over 5000 days of wondering wondering if we would ever make it to this day. Tonight marks the
culmination of this long journey we are the graduating class of 2014.
Graduation is one of those awkward times in our lives when we are torn between letting go of our safe
haven where we have many a cherished memory and anticipating a new path where the destination is
but a speck of hope. Should we look back on what were the greatest twelve years of our lives times
filled with joy from the day we picked out our first schoolbags until the day we emptied our lockers
for the last time? Or should we focus on the next stage in this journey called LIFE? We have been
impatiently waiting for this day, and now, all we want to do is hit pause, rewind, and play. We want to
slow it down and enjoy the last fleeting moments, but we can t stop the clock from ticking it s time to
let go and fly!
This long journey that began twelve years ago was a blank book, and we were all eager to fill the
pages. We will always look back on the days we spent from preschool to high school those days long
ago, the world seemed so innocent; however, soon enough, we became aware that real life is different,
and we began to face some of the many experiences of adulthood. As the years passed, we learned not
to allow external circumstances to define us. That s right; our book was being written on our own
terms.
Every year,

Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging Summary
My Jungian Typology is Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging (ESFJ). According to Carl Jung and
Isabel Briggs Myers personality type theory, I enjoy entertaining, giving, and being in charge. I am
also easily hurt and when I feel hurt, it s impossible to hide. I have a hard time making a decision
because I am torn between choosing what is right for others instead of the right choice for me. I have a
good sense of danger and I tend to tread carefully in situations that could result in negative
consequences for others and myself.
I consider the description of my personality Jungian type to be pretty accurate. The only two
characteristics I am not so sure about is whether I enjoy entertaining and that I like to be in charge. I

I sent the link to him so that he could take it himself. I was curious to see what his result would be. He
is nowhere near as sensitive as I am so I knew his result had to be different. His result is different, but
only in one dimension. He is considered Extraverted Sensing Thinking Judging (ESTJ); therefore, the
only difference was that I was more Feeling than Thinking.
I learned from the Jungian personality assessment that I can handle communicating differently
depending on the topic. Communication is easier for me if the topic involves emotions or resolving
ongoing issues. I can have a hard time communicating if the discussion does not have a clear direction
or solution. I also prefer to be involved in helpful conversation as opposed to a conversation that does
not provide any gains. It is easier for me to retain information when tangible examples are specified,
so that I can relate the information to personal or emotional experience.
The results from the productivity quiz showed that I am productive, but still require some
improvement. There are five elements of being productive which include: organization, attitude,
delegations, information systems, and effective use of systems. The area of organization is where I
could use the most improvement.

Market size
The U.S Wine market has been claimed as the largest market in the world by Wine Institute
representative and CEO Robert P. This industry is highly fragmented and relatively large with a total
of $17 billion in revenue as of 2014. There are currently about 1,800 established wineries in the
nation, with half of these located in California. Wine sales from all distributers in the U.S have seen a
record increase in their sales of 9 liter cases totaling 360.1 million worth $34.6 billion. 58% of those
sales were attributed to California, the leading wine producing state in the nation. California had a
total of 250.2 million cases distributed worldwide. 90% of the industries revenue comes from
California. The other top wine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This growing demand has added to the attractiveness of the industry with many new producers
entering the market. US Wine producers have also been able to establish an improved reputation
among experts and are now becoming more accepted internationally. Wine producers have managed to
make their products more accessible to consumers, offering them through a wider array of distribution
channels. In relation to foreign competitors, US wine consumption is still small, with Americans
consuming less than 3 gallons per person, demonstrating more room for industry growth. Wine sales
through eccomerce and other direct to consumer sales have also experienced rapid growth. Laws
facilitating direct to consumer shipments have helped in the increase of distribution of wine
eliminating the need for other distributers.
Number of rivals (buyers) and their relative size look at major competitos
The top wine producing firms in the U.S include E amp;j Gallo Winery having around 22.3% market
share, constellation brands inc. 17.4% market share and the wine group inc with 8.5% market share.
The US wine industry faces competition from foreign producers such as france, spain and Italy being
some of the top producers, accompanied by argentina, Australia, and Germany. Some of the industries
top foreing competitors in wine making include Gruppo Italiano Vini (Italy), Distell Group (South
Africa), Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin (France), and Viña

George Orwell s Indictment Of Totalitarianism
No one man should have all that power/The clocks ticking, I just count the hours/Stop tripping, I m
tripping off the power/Till then, fuck that, the world s ours.
To someone who prefers Orwellian literature over contemporary rap, these lyrics could be interpreted
as a brief crude summary of Animal Farm s final five chapters. In taking a second glance at this verse,
Kanye West also gives us an insight into how George Orwell viewed Totalitarianism. Orwell s Animal
Farm, in alluding to Communist Russia, characterizes Totalitarianism as a political system that stems
from exclusivity, blurs the lines between ideologies, and serves to the detriment of all despite being
led by a powerful minority, who at the least, should be pleased with the fruit of their efforts. This is
Orwell s indictment of Totalitarianism, and throughout this essay we will scale through its causes, as
well as the adverse and ultimate effects of its existence.
Orwell s primary indictment of Totalitarianism stems from an analysis as to why it surfaces in the first
place lack of opposition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Geology Development Case Study
The youngest of the formations, Point Lookout Formation, sits directly over the Mancos Shale, and is
composed of tan sandstone and lenses of shale dispersed in it ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). The
retreating of the sea caused this change in deposition from shale to sandstone; this left it with beach
deposits rather than deep water ones ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). After the sea withdrew
completely, about 80 million years ago, a flat coastal plain emerged. Here, swamps developed and as
organic and plant material decayed, fine grained shales formed. These dark brown or black shales are
called the Menefee Formation, although thin beds of sandstones and coal can also be found here (
Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). The oldest formation, Cliff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solution rills are formed when acidic rain dissolves the calcium carbonate that holds sandstone
together, forming depressions. Water flows along the grooves, deepening them until a flower like
pattern emerges. Concretions, or hard, dense masses of minerals within rock can be seen in the Cliff
House Sandstone and Point Lookout Formation ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). They are often
spherical in shade and elongate, and are typically harder than the rocks they are within. The
concretions in Mesa Verde consist of either iron oxide or calcium carbonate ( Geology of Mesa Verde,
n.d.). Unprotected Cliff House Sandstone atop mesa tops develop a feature known as turtle back
weathering. As the exposed sandstone is eroded, an immense amount of pressure is released, and this
release causes cracks in the rocks. Further weathering the cracks, water freezes, thaws, and dissolves
the calcium carbonate holding the sandstone together. Eventually, the cracks erode the top of the rock
into a rounded shape, giving it a likeness to that of turtle shells ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). Today,
the park faces several geological hazards with many forms of movement through rock falls, debris
flows, landslides, and even flash floods (Carrara, 2014). For example, the Mancos and Menefee
Formations contain beds of bentonite, a volcanic ash that swells and shrinks according to its
absorption of water ( Geologic Resource Evaluation Report , 2006). This

The external environment of the hotel industry in is very competitive and already well established.
Trends in the market include promotional campaigns to customers using the more bang for your buck,
method. There are several different segments of the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale, mid
market with food and beverage, mid market without food and beverage, economy, and budget. Each

Finally, McDonald s could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same type
of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations
General Recommendations
McDonald s should use their brand name to create a McDonald s experience in the hotel industry just
like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with their
hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country.
Specific Recommendations
McDonald s should enter the mid market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they can
take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the high cost
and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at children and families.
They could incorporate the McDonald s Play Place and other fun activity rooms like arcades or maybe
something more adult like a game room with pool tables and electronic darts. Using a more family
oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost of liquor licenses and trying to compete
with something that is already being done.
Rationale behind Recommendations
If McDonald s wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand name it is
important that they differentiate themselves from all the other hotel chains. If

How Does Polar Retreat Affect Polar Bears
Glacier retreat will greatly affect polar and aquatic ecosystems and animals. Most arctic life revolves
around the sea and presence of sea ice. Without the presence of ice, most ecosystems will be recreated.
Polar bears are one species in great danger. Polar bears use sea ice as a birthing and hunting ground,
and also use it to travel from one place to another. As glaciers start to disappear, the mother polar bear
has less access to food; therefore, the chance of survival for her and her young is very slim. The polar
bears chance of reproduction becomes less as the glaciers retreat. As the top of the food chain, their
decline will cause negative effects for each level below them (Review Diagram G). The only way for
polar bears to survive, is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other animals in danger include arctic seals, seabirds, and walruses. Most arctic seal species are
dependent on sea ice for a birthing ground and place to rest. With the decrease in glaciers, these seals
will become extinct since they directly live on the ice or in the water. Southern seals that have adapted
to live on land, will more likely start to migrate north and take over areas that have experienced
serious glacier retreat. This will create greater competition between seals and ultimately lead to
changes in the food web (Arctic Climate Change). Seabirds, such as ivory gulls, will be impacted by
the absence of ice. These birds regularly nest in the mountainous areas which offer protection for their
young. Also, these birds scavenge for food between the cracks or on the surface of the ice. In the past
20 years, ivory gulls in Canada have experienced a population decline of 90% (Arctic Climate
Change). Walruses will also lose their feeding ground once the ice begins to melt farther. Walruses
normally live on the ice edge where clams, their main source of food, is most

case study that will be used in this paper will be San Diego 6 the CW. The station is a typical example

some of the examples from the station to highlight the way media houses. In this case, San Diego 6 the

and news considered being for the good of the audience. It is an accepted fact that news aired on
television screens, on radio, and printed media in various publications does not represent a true image

In this case, a company may sponsor channel s news segments or other relevant programs. Some adopt

Tale Of Two Cities Sacrifice
Sacrifices Must Be Made for Love and Happiness
A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, is a suspenseful novel taking place before and during the
French Revolution in the late 1700s. The audience is taken on a journey through time, learning about
how the Revolution affected two main families, the Manettes and the Evrémondes. Throughout the
novel, Dickens makes the reader question what drives man kind to sacrifice? The answer is love and
happiness result in sacrifices. The characters, such as Charles Darnay, Doctor Manette, and Sydney
Carton prove this as they commit sacrifices to start a new life, for a loved one, or for the benefit of
other people.

Earlier in the novel, when Carton confesses his love to Lucie, he states, And when you see your own
bright beauty springing up anew at your feet, think now and then that there is a man who would give
his life, to keep a life you love beside you (117). His word is tested later in the end of the novel.
Darnay is sentenced for execution, but Carton would not allow for Lucie to loose the life she loves
(117). Carton trickes Darnay into switching places and eventually, Carton is executed in Darnay s
place, without any of the Revolutionists realizing. Indeed, he is willing to give up his own life, a life
Lucie could never love the way she loves Darnay, so she and Darnay could stay together. Besides
sacrificing his life for Lucie s husband, Sydney also sacrifices his life because he believes the people
of the city would benefit from it. Carton states during his last moments of life, I see a beautiful city
and a brilliant people rising from this abyss, and, in their struggles to be truly free, in their triumphs
and defeats, through long years to come, I see the evil of this time and of the previous time of which
this is the natural birth, gradually making expiation for itself and wearing out (292). Carton explains
how he thinks the Revolution will end since the revolutionist have achieved their goal of killing the
last Evrémonde.

Universal Symbolism In Theatre
Many different approaches have been taking to theatre for many generations. One of the more people
interpretations would have to be symbolism. Symbolism uses objects or sayings to connect situations
main characters are going through. Symbolism in the theatre can be achieved via characters, colour,
movement, costume and props. This causes the audience to think more and pay closer attention to
minor details in a play. Symbolism is also a powerful force for communicating meaning; certain
themes or ideas affect the mind of the audience more profoundly when presented indirectly through a
symbol than when presented overtly. Plays have been popular among many different cultures and they
will often use symbolism to drive home ideas. Symbolism is used to leave the audience thinking about
underlying issues antaganists are going through. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

include receptive and the child s expressive language skills of the children, self regulation, and

The children make graphs, charts, make books, and dramatize their ideas (French, 2002). Children can

can give knowledge that will be essential for reading comprehension (French, 2002). Literacy is
important in everyday lives. If a child cannot read or write they won t be able to function in society. It
is important to integrate literacy in all parts of the curriculum. Math is good for both reading and

hard and play hard. It was in 10th grade when I first came across this quote and at that time it
completely changed my life. Throughout the first two years of high school, I was not concerned on my
education to say the least. I am ashamed to admit this, but I was more focused on fitting in with a
particular group of individuals then go to class and learn. This all changed when I read Colin Powell s
wise words; it struck me that the only reason on why I was not taking school seriously was because of
my so called friends. All throughout my scholastic year s teachers have always ... Show more content

To my astonishment, my new friends welcomed me with open arms, for the first time in my life I felt
this was the place where I belonged. The group thrived on each other s willingness to succeed. We
competed with each other, motivated each other and helped each other. Fast forward to graduation I
was ranked in the top 15 of the class, graduating with honors, and looking forward to attending a
college that gave me an academic scholarship. As I entered my first day of classes, my mind was
excited to absorb the new information I was about to learn and be with individuals who wanted to
accomplish as much as I did. However, my dreams were crushed as quickly as they started. In the
following months, I began to realize that students were not focused on taking advantages of these
opportunities. I shrugged it off thinking to myself it was their fault. The feeling of a fish out of the
water slowly crept back in; it seemed I was the only one that didn t find drinking excessively till
emergency services stepped in as fun. I tried to find a group of like minded students, but most did not

able to recognize the body it was returning to! (Yesterday) If the spirit didn t recognize its body it

SOLDIERS AND PEASANTS! PEACE! BREAD! LAND! . He writes that later that evening,
government buildings and several institutions were under the Bolsheviks authority and the next day
Lenin officially announced the downfall of the Provisional Government along with the arrestment of
the leading actors the Petrograd Soviet celebrated the victory. The absence of their political opponents
press weakened the opposition s presence in the public and facilitated the victory in other parts of
Russia. According to Reed, the Bolsheviks were able to take control of Moscow within three weeks

Narrative Essay On Sports Injury
Growing up in Middle Georgia, sports were played year around. There was never a down time,
especially in the Thompson household. I was constantly playing a sport. Injuries were bound to
happen, some worse than others. During my athletic career, two injuries were worse than others. I
grew up less than three miles away from the Warner Robins American Little League. This is where I
started my passion for baseball. Every spring, my dad would sign me up to play. At the end of the
season, the coaches would pick the best players to play on the All Star team. The All Star team would
compete against local teams in our District. If you win districts, you would compete for the State
Championship, then the Southeast Region Championship. If you win the ... Show more content on

On our days off between games, we would have two a days. We would have practice in the mornings
and in the afternoon. During one of those practices, I was going through fielding workouts. As we
were practicing, I misread a line drive that hit my middle finger on my right hand. The impact
fractured my finger. The fractured finger ruled me out for the rest of the District tournament, the State
tournament, and the Region tournament. Fortunately, our team went undefeated in each tournament to
send us to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The second injury was much
worse in nature. During the fall of 2014, I was a sophomore at Perry High School. I was the starting
tight end on the varsity football team. On October 17, 2014 we played a cross city rival Veterans High
School. At the time, we were competing for a playoff spot.
Around five minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, I ran a slant route to the middle of the field. My dad
recalls me getting hit, head to head with the linebacker. I remember picking my helmet and running to
the sidelines. My head was killing me. I sat on the bench with trainers around me. I went through a
few tests and they diagnosed me with a mild concussion. After talking to my family, we agreed that

Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay
Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task. There
was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to population
that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education. Would other
populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all previous data had
been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task progress and preventing
any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory environment, many aspects of the
online testing environment are not under the experimenter s control. Participants could be distracted
by simultaneously completing other online tasks or attending to other aspects of their environment. It
is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an
experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis, Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The
online testing environment used for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M
Turk is a platform for thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents
complete tasks for small monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and
reasonably representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment
amount (Buhrmester, Kwang, Gosling, 2011; Mason Watts, 2009; Paolacci, Chandler, Ipeirotis,

Theme Of Kingship In Macbeth
Shakespeare s plays, Henry IV, Part 1 (1H4) and Macbeth (Mac.), support the Tudor myth through the
representation of monarchy and the theme of a king s divinity. From a historical perspective,
Shakespeare portrays Henry IV and his descendants as unworthy of kingship as Henry IV disrupts the
divine right of kings and thus instigates the Tudor myth. This representation is implemented in order
to appease Elizabeth I through affirming her sanctioned appointment to the throne. The depiction of
kingship within Macbeth is similar as the monarch is demonstrated as disrupting the divine right of
kings through treason and regicide. However, Shakespeare s tragedy does so in order to attest to James
I of Britain s maintenance of the divine right of kings. This is achieved primarily through the
demonstrated polarity between Macbeth the tyrant and James, the king of England. Originating from
Henry VII of England, the Tudor myth is a device that describes Henry IV s disruption of natural
monarchical succession that ultimately required expiation and sovereign restoration in kingship. Its
premise relies heavily on the notion of the divine right of kings as it was believed that a monarch was
God s representative on earth (Hicks 15). Therefore, deposition was considered offensive and
unjustifiable before God and the people (Kiryanova 24) and thus it is believed that Henry
Bolingbroke, IV of England, sparked a series of successors undeserving of the throne. The restoration
of Henry IV s

Compare And Contrast Gluckicose And Hexokinase
Hexokinase and glucokinase are similar enzymes found in different parts of the body. These enzymes
are used to regulate glucose levels in the blood. Glucose is the only nutrient which feed the brain,
making fundamental in a diet. Glucose is derived from carbohydrates, and carbohydrates are the main
source of nutrients. Once, carbohydrates are broken down into single molecules of glucose.
Hexokinase and glucokinase assists in the metabolism of glucose through a process known as
glycolysis. Glycolysis is a multiple step process which converts glucose into ATP or stores it as
triglycerides. Therefore, hyporcaloric people require energy, causing the cycle to proceed in ATP
pathway. Triglycerides are created when the person has excessive calories available. Once glucose
enters the body, it begins to fill the requirements of the body. For Example, the first tissue to get filled
is the brain, the second is the muscle, and if there is glucose still available in the blood, then it enters
the liver. Hexokinase and glucokinase have the same function, but they react differently with in the
body. Hexokinase and glucokinase work together to make glucose functional for the body. Glucose is
either used for energy or stored for later used. Hexokinase is found in most cells, and allows glucose
to enter at lower concentrations. This enzyme will proceed into ATP production if the cells are
hypocaloric or low in energy. On the other hand, if cells are hypercaloric, glucose will be stored as

Social Media Disadvantages
Social media, or social network is defined by Dictionary.com as an online community of people with a
common interest who use a website or other technologies to communicate with each other and share
information, resources, etc. Social media has become one of the most popular used forms of electronic
communication. It allows users ranging from various age groups to connect and interact with each
other from all across the world. Today, the younger generation can utilize social media as a useful tool.
Younger users can access these networks to communicate and create new friends, access up to date
information and events, and use them as a form of entertainment. However, social media has some
disadvantages that can impact younger users. Social media can affect younger users by being
addictive, impacting education, and can pose dangerous threats. First, younger users can become
addicted to social media. In the 21st century, technology has and still is evolving. Unlike some of the
previous generations, it is common today to see a child interacting with a mobile device. This allows
them to have access to social media websites and apps. Critics believe that social media can be
positive, [enabling] more young people to be creative and innovative (Austin). However, becoming
more active with social media activity can lead into an addiction. For instance, on popular websites
and apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, users have a popular feature called the like button
allowing them to show their support towards different content. For teens, gaining a high number of
likes can illustrate popularity, increasing self esteem. On the other hand, this could lead into an
addiction among individuals. In a brain scan study by Lauren Sherman, lead author of the brain study
and researcher at UCLA, claimed that one of the reasons that teens are such active users on social
media is that they re really sensitive to these likes (Almendrala). Consequently, a user addiction for
likes on social media can impact an individual s self esteem, and lead into time wasted on social media
by the individual. Furthermore, connecting into effecting education. Second, social media can affect
younger user s education. With the access to

The Collection Of Oil Polluted Water Samples
2.1. Collection of oil polluted water samples
Red sea water samples polluted with Belayim Mix (BX) crude oil were collected from the Advanced
Petroleum Interceptor (API) of SUMED Cooperation (Suez governorate 29°17 34.4 N 32°36 37.0 E,
Egypt). Two samples were collected, each in 250 mL screw capped sterile glass bottle, which was then
closed after the air bubbles were completely eliminated and transferred to the laboratory within 3 4 h
and stored at 4°C. Seawater (3.5%) was collected from Ain Sokhna beach, stored at 4°C and filtered
(0.45 µm) prior to use.
2.2. Isolation of crude oil degrading microbial strains
The microorganisms used in this study were isolated from oil contaminated seawater. The yeast
presented in the samples were enriched by cultivation in Wickerham broth medium (10 g glucose, 5 g
peptone, 3 g yeast extract, 3 g malt extract and distilled water up to 1 L; pH 6.2), while the fungal
strains were enriched in Sabouraud dextrose broth medium (20 g glucose, 10 g peptone, 5 g yeast
extract and distilled water up to 1 L; pH 5.6). Enriched cultures were incubated in an orbital shaker
(150 rpm) for 48 h. After this enrichment, suspensions in physiological saline were used to inoculate
duplicate modified Wickerham agar (supplemented with 100 mg/L chloramphenicol) and modified
Sabouraud dextrose agar plates with yeast and fungi, respectively. All media were modified by using
filtered seawater instead of distilled water to dissolve all ingredients. The plates were

There is no direct recording of sales receipts, shipping labels, or matching return to accounts
receivable. These circumstances allow opportunities where employees take home returned items.
Another issue that I would address is lack of control procedures and guidelines in handling and
recording accounts receivable. This is much more important now since a major client who represents
31% of total sales is experiencing financial difficulty. I will discuss more detail on this issue in next
section.
Issue on abilities of Collection and Receivable management procedure According to the accounts
receivable report, a major client of Smackey is Chicago s retail chain Pub Stores. They alone represent
31% of overall sales and revenue of Smackey Dog Foods. Pub Stores is a primary customer who
usually makes payment within 30 days. Extract from accounts receivable aging, current receivable
under 30 days have only 38% of the total amount. If Pub store contributes 31% to this data, that means
other good customers who makes their payments on time to Smackey beside Pub store only accounts
for 7%. As I mentioned above, Pub Stores is now experiencing a major lawsuit from an animal rights
group. The legal fees are eating into their cash reserves and they are facing some store closures. Since
Pub Store is a major customer of Smackey, if Pub Stores has to close down their stores it is not a good
sign for Smackey. This incident indicates that the ability of

faculty and professionals. It is not just children that are stuttering, but it affects a great majority of
adults. In the near future, I want to advocate for people that come from my background and that speak

  • 2. Importance Of Boys Underachievement In Reading And Writing Although there is evidence that proves boys underachievement in reading and writing in contrast to girls , it is important to first note that there are sources that identify boys being less committed to school than girls, but why is this? A significant aspect is boys attitude to school and examinations. Weis (1990) effectively argues that the majority of boys are not concerned with excelling in school, but only with passing. This evidence strongly suggests that boys attitude to education is significantly lower than girls due to only requiring to pass exams instead of exceeding their limitations and reaching their full potential. A positive attitude to education is essential to ensure all pupils obtain higher than satisfactory academic achievements, resulting in a high quality learning experience, although there are also numerous factors that contribute to boys underachievement in reading and writing and the ways it can be tackled. Boys underachievement in reading and writing can be traced to activities within their household. For example, it is not common that young boys witness their father reading novels instead of newspapers, yet there is evidence to suggest that young boys are strongly influenced by this. Pickering (1997, p. 49) supports this by expertly stating that, it seems hard to deny that children are affected to some extent in their learning by the home. As a result, it can be argued that mothers are to blame as they are the ones reading stories to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a fall morning in late October. The leafs so the tree begun to change color. TreVon got up for school as usual. Little did he know his whole life was about to change in the blink of an eye. He always got things blamed on him because he was the youngest, but he could never imagine this. TreVon was rushing to get out the door. He knew if he missed the buss one more time he was going to be in big trouble. He s older brothers Luther and Jaron never favored him anyway. So they did not care if he missed the bus. TreVon was very smart kid but he wanted to be cool so he did not care about his grades. The boy s mother worked 13 hour shifts at a old mill house. TreVon looked confused in the face. Wondering why Blake would lie on him like that, he thought they were friends. Officer James took TreVon home. He explained to TreVon mother Mary that her son was caught at a park smoking. He did not even get a chance to say anything. Mary said to the officer i will handle him and pulled TreVon in the house. • 4. Essay about Describing Dunkirk Describing Dunkirk On the 20th May 1940the allied troops were trapped by the Germans on the Northern coast of France. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the Belgian Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill gave the command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord Gort (leader of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south trapping the troops. The evacuation was organised by Admiral Ramsey and codenamed Operation Dynamo with the main objective to rescue as much of the B.E.F as possible. This evacuation began on May 27th from the beaches of Dunkirk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were killed, wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s equipment would be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the Navy suffered 243 ships sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged) and the RAF lost 474 aircraft. Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat. It is a photographic source showing Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach littered with equipment, corpses and debris. Off the shore are broken half sunken ships with those that have become beached, one possibly a military boat and also many smaller vessels. The photograph of the dead soldiers shows military defeat as the objective was to rescue the B.E.F and would be very demoralising for the British public. The large boat could belong to the navy and would be very valuable, loss of this would be very expensive, along with the rest of the abandoned equipment. The source seems reliable as it is first hand primary evidence. It is useful for showing defeat as it displays what it looked like at Dunkirk after the evacuation. Its also backs up my own knowledge as the B.E.F lost 68,111 men and you would expect bodies on the beaches where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Firefighter Grieving On average there are there are 70 on duty firefighter fatalities in the United States every year. ( Firefighter Fatalities in the United States ). This means that an on duty firefighter dies about every 5 days. Firefighters have enough stress with their everyday job, then you add losing a fellow member it puts another level to that stress. Imagine two siblings go out to play basketball like they do multiple times everyday and one of them end up dying in a freak accident. Horrible right? It is the same thing with firefighters. They go out on a call. There is a freak accident and there is not a great outcome. The death of a fellow firefighter is like losing a brother or sister because you are living with them for almost one third of your life. (Johnson). Firefighters are one big family. There has always been firefighter fatalities. The questions has always been: How to deal with one when it happens. What is the right amount of time off for grieving? Should there be mandatory counseling? Who do we bring in to support the firefighters? The problem is that every fatal incident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The closer someone is to the person the longer it may take for them to finish the grieving process. Giving firefighters mandatory time off for grieving is another way to deal with firefighter fatalities. Failure to provide emotional and psychological support may result in the resurgence of emotions during stressful situations, which may have a detrimental impact on safe operations. (Theil, 19). Providing time for grieving is important. The problem is that the fire department has to run and it cannot run without the firefighters. The first step, need recognition , was fairly simple: we moved from Hawaii and had to sell my son s bike due to high shipping costs from the islands to the mainland, therefore, we were needing to buy a replacement bike. • 7. Rich s Philosophies Rich 18 Every person has his own philosophy which ultimately guides him through each day. If a person believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God which reveals how man came into existence, man?s purpose on earth and even some of God?s plan for the future. • 8. The Effects Of The Seebeck Effect Introduction 1.1 Seebeck Effect When two ends of a conductor are held at different temperatures electrons at the hot junction at higher thermal velocities diffuse to the cold junction. Seebeck discovered that making one end of a metal bar hotter or colder than the other produced an EMF between the two ends. He experimented with junctions (simple mechanical connections) made between different conducting materials. He found that if he created a temperature difference between two electrically connected junctions (e.g., heating one of the junctions and cooling the other) the wire connecting the two junctions would cause a compass needle to deflect. He thought that he had discovered a way to transform thermal energy into a magnetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ➢ TH and TC are the hot and cold thermocouple temperatures, respectively, in ok. The reverse of the Seebeck effect is also possible: by passing a current through two junctions, you can create a temperature difference. This process was discovered in 1834 by scientist named Peltier, and thus it is called the Peltier effect. This may sound similar to Joule heating described above, but in fact it is not. In Joule heating the current is only increasing the temperature in the material in which it flows. In Peltier effect devices, a temperature difference is created: one junction becomes cooler and one junction becomes hotter. Although Peltier coolers are not as efficient as some other types of cooling devices, they are accurate, easy to control, and easy to adjust.

Historian S, Phillips argues that Stalin was undoubtedly skillful in using the circumstances that presented themselves in 1924 and opportunities that arose thereafter to overcome his opponents in the party . This view supports the idea that Stalin used his political shrewdness and skills to outwit his colleagues for the battle for power and positioned himself in situations that he could benefit from and gain advantages which is an alternative factor to the Party machine argument as the main reason for Stalin s dominance of power. Stalin s use of the funeral to align himself to the Lenin legacy shows an example of his potential opportunism within the party, as claimed by Tucker who stated that Stalin was not the only rival for power using Lenin s legacy to further his career the others were as well, but Stalin was better at it . Machiavelli influences the modern political science we still use today, and continue to pave his paths. His book, The Prince uses Renaissance values and applies them to politics, intriguing most everyone. His book targets powerful men, teaching them how to gain and maintain power. Theodore Geisel Quote I take this quote by Theodore Geisel to mean that when you speak your mind and be yourself, those who criticize or shame you for being who you are and sharing your thoughts and opinions shouldn t matter to you and the people who really matter won t be mad that you chose to show who you are. There are many different situations in which these apply. Some situations include attending junior high and high school, applying for college and jobs, and sharing political viewpoints. As Sol Luckman said, I just want to live my own life instead of everyone else s version of it. And this quote shows that instead of lying to others about how you feel, you should just be yourself. This quote by Geisel matters in junior high and high school because near that time peer pressure tends to become prevalent. The reason that most teenagers succumb to peer pressure isn t the fear of saying no to your friends. It s the prospect of being alone. The main consequence of saying no to negative peer pressure is not just withstanding the heat of the moment, as most adults think. Indeed, these notions on habit and causality became important in the development of behaviourism and the work of Jean Piaget. The birth place of psychology as a scientific discipline was in Germany, with Wilhelm Wundt becoming the founding father of psychology as he was the first person to describe himself as a psychologist and to publish the first textbook on psychology. Wundt and many other German scientists held that the human mind can be studied scientifically. Germany was the birthplace of psychology as academics were open to the notion that psychology could be studied scientifically and not in a traditional philosophical way like other academics believed. Germany was also central in the development of experimental physiology, which was important in the progress of experimental psychology. • 17. Greek Mythology Of Ancient Greece Beautiful architecture, democracy, theatre, and the Olympic games; these are just a few of the many wonders Ancient Greece had to offer. However, one of the most memorable creations of Ancient Greece would have to be Greek mythology. These myths included hundreds of stories and teachings that would have a lasting effect on Greek culture for centuries to come. When taking a deeper look into some of these myths, one may notice gender and sexual behavior to be themes that occur quite frequently. One also cannot help but notice that some social conditions in Ancient Greece, such as the importance of beauty, the treatment of women, and beast like sexual behavior, revolved around sex and gender. It is because of the use of gender and sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these myths regarding sexual behavior include sexual relations with some sort of animal. An example of this is the story of Leda and the Swan. Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, a book by E.M. Berens, explains that Zeus came down in the form of a swan to consort with Leda (Berens 34). The result of this encounter was the birth of Helen and Pollux. Leda was one of the many mortal consorts of Zeus which gives an idea of how common this was in Greek mythology. Another example of bestiality in Greek myths is the story of Pasiphae and the bull. As told in Apollodorus, after disobeying the word of Poseidon by not sacrificing a bull he was sent; Minos, ruler of Crete, was punished. However, his punishment was not cast upon him, rather Pasiphae, his wife. Pasiphae became passionate for a bull and with help from Daedalus, an architect, created a contraption to assist in achieving sex with this animal. The contraption was a success and Pasiphae gave birth to Asterius, who is then named the Minotaur (Apollodorus. 3.1.4). In this story bestiality is taken a step further. Not only does Pasiphae have intercourse with the bull, but she goes as far as leaving her human form to do so. This beast like sexual behavior rippled from these stories into the culture and society of Ancient Greece. One way we see this ripple effect is the occurrence of incest in Ancient Greece. Consider one especially brutal case: in the mid 1990s, just as the famine that would eventually kill millions of North Koreans was taking hold, reports of grumbling and dissent in a prominent Korean People s Army s division reached Pyongyang (Powell). Kim Jong Il, according to an intelligence source, had the unit s officer corps several dozen men arrested and then made the enlisted men watch what could potentially be their future. The arrested officers were required to lie in the middle of a road, their hands and legs tied. Several tanks rumbled forward and ran back and forth over the officers, crushing them to death (Powell). This combination of mercilessness, beliefs and seclusion lead many observers of North Korea to believe that there is no question Kim Jong Un will be making the decisions now, says a former intelligence analyst in East Asia. He may make the decisions, but they will be based on information filtered through those around him, men who are not peers but elders (Powell). • 20. An Example of a Graduation Speech Ladies and gentlemen, friends and families, teachers and graduates of 2014, good evening, Over 5000 days of wondering wondering if we would ever make it to this day. Tonight marks the culmination of this long journey we are the graduating class of 2014. Graduation is one of those awkward times in our lives when we are torn between letting go of our safe haven where we have many a cherished memory and anticipating a new path where the destination is but a speck of hope. Should we look back on what were the greatest twelve years of our lives times filled with joy from the day we picked out our first schoolbags until the day we emptied our lockers for the last time? Or should we focus on the next stage in this journey called LIFE? We have been impatiently waiting for this day, and now, all we want to do is hit pause, rewind, and play. We want to slow it down and enjoy the last fleeting moments, but we can t stop the clock from ticking it s time to let go and fly! This long journey that began twelve years ago was a blank book, and we were all eager to fill the pages. We will always look back on the days we spent from preschool to high school those days long ago, the world seemed so innocent; however, soon enough, we became aware that real life is different, and we began to face some of the many experiences of adulthood. As the years passed, we learned not to allow external circumstances to define us. That s right; our book was being written on our own terms. Every year, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

GE takes pride in the over all quality of their products and wants stakeholders to know that they are very customer driven and will put the customer first and foremost. In the GE work equation, they do not reference the teamwork, customer, excellence and other attributes they may have, but they do focus on markets served, citizenship, employees, and their self concept. General Electric was actually founded in 1892 when Edison General Electric and The Thompson Houston Company merged to become The General Electric Company with Charles A. In taking a second glance at this verse, Kanye West also gives us an insight into how George Orwell viewed Totalitarianism. Orwell s Animal Farm, in alluding to Communist Russia, characterizes Totalitarianism as a political system that stems from exclusivity, blurs the lines between ideologies, and serves to the detriment of all despite being led by a powerful minority, who at the least, should be pleased with the fruit of their efforts. Geology Development Case Study The youngest of the formations, Point Lookout Formation, sits directly over the Mancos Shale, and is composed of tan sandstone and lenses of shale dispersed in it ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). The retreating of the sea caused this change in deposition from shale to sandstone; this left it with beach deposits rather than deep water ones ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). After the sea withdrew completely, about 80 million years ago, a flat coastal plain emerged. Here, swamps developed and as organic and plant material decayed, fine grained shales formed. These dark brown or black shales are called the Menefee Formation, although thin beds of sandstones and coal can also be found here ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). The oldest formation, Cliff ... Water flows along the grooves, deepening them until a flower like pattern emerges. Concretions, or hard, dense masses of minerals within rock can be seen in the Cliff House Sandstone and Point Lookout Formation ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). They are often spherical in shade and elongate, and are typically harder than the rocks they are within. The concretions in Mesa Verde consist of either iron oxide or calcium carbonate ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). Unprotected Cliff House Sandstone atop mesa tops develop a feature known as turtle back weathering. As the exposed sandstone is eroded, an immense amount of pressure is released, and this release causes cracks in the rocks. Further weathering the cracks, water freezes, thaws, and dissolves the calcium carbonate holding the sandstone together. Eventually, the cracks erode the top of the rock into a rounded shape, giving it a likeness to that of turtle shells ( Geology of Mesa Verde, n.d.). Without the presence of ice, most ecosystems will be recreated. Polar bears are one species in great danger. • 45. Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task. There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education. Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis, Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small monetary rewards. • 46. Theme Of Kingship In Macbeth Shakespeare s plays, Henry IV, Part 1 (1H4) and Macbeth (Mac.), support the Tudor myth through the representation of monarchy and the theme of a king s divinity. From a historical perspective, Shakespeare portrays Henry IV and his descendants as unworthy of kingship as Henry IV disrupts the divine right of kings and thus instigates the Tudor myth. This representation is implemented in order to appease Elizabeth I through affirming her sanctioned appointment to the throne. The depiction of kingship within Macbeth is similar as the monarch is demonstrated as disrupting the divine right of kings through treason and regicide. However, Shakespeare s tragedy does so in order to attest to James I of Britain s maintenance of the divine right of kings. This is achieved primarily through the demonstrated polarity between Macbeth the tyrant and James, the king of England. Originating from Henry VII of England, the Tudor myth is a device that describes Henry IV s disruption of natural monarchical succession that ultimately required expiation and sovereign restoration in kingship. Its premise relies heavily on the notion of the divine right of kings as it was believed that a monarch was God s representative on earth (Hicks 15). Therefore, deposition was considered offensive and unjustifiable before God and the people (Kiryanova 24) and thus it is believed that Henry Bolingbroke, IV of England, sparked a series of successors undeserving of the throne. • 47. Compare And Contrast Gluckicose And Hexokinase Hexokinase and glucokinase are similar enzymes found in different parts of the body. These enzymes are used to regulate glucose levels in the blood. Glucose is the only nutrient which feed the brain, making fundamental in a diet. Glucose is derived from carbohydrates, and carbohydrates are the main source of nutrients. Once, carbohydrates are broken down into single molecules of glucose. Hexokinase and glucokinase assists in the metabolism of glucose through a process known as glycolysis. Glycolysis is a multiple step process which converts glucose into ATP or stores it as triglycerides. Therefore, hyporcaloric people require energy, causing the cycle to proceed in ATP pathway. Triglycerides are created when the person has excessive calories available. Once glucose enters the body, it begins to fill the requirements of the body. For Example, the first tissue to get filled is the brain, the second is the muscle, and if there is glucose still available in the blood, then it enters the liver. Hexokinase and glucokinase have the same function, but they react differently with in the body. Hexokinase and glucokinase work together to make glucose functional for the body. Glucose is either used for energy or stored for later used. Hexokinase is found in most cells, and allows glucose to enter at lower concentrations. This enzyme will proceed into ATP production if the cells are hypocaloric or low in energy. On the other hand, if cells are hypercaloric, glucose will be stored as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
