A Public Health Assessment ( Pre Pha )
SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
In this Preliminary Public Health Assessment (Pre PHA), we evaluated exposure of the Milneburge
neighborhood community to contaminants in response to their public health complaint with the City of
New Orleans. . The homeowners in the neighborhood started to complain of nausea, headache, and
dyspnea when they work in their back yards and reported water runoff and soil erosion from the waste
management site. So, they were really concerned about their children health because they used to play
in the area. As a result of that, we evaluated some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are chemical compounds found in nature or released from burning of
coal, oil, tobacco, and wood. Some of these compounds are toxic to lung, liver, and skin. By such Pre
PHA, We can know if the site is extremely contaminated or not and we can assure residents and give
them answers about their concerns.
SITE TIMELINE Our site is a land in the northwestern region of the French Quarter. In the early 20th
century, the New Orleans Land Co. owned the land when it was grown up to a modern neighborhood
with subdivisions and street network after spending a lot of money. In 1917, the Rosemount cemetery
was constructed upon it. Millard University bought the whole land in 1940 and by 1961, the
University sold the trapezoidal open land to an industrial waste company. They established
incinerators and worked for almost 8 years. In 1980, the City of

Normality And Pathology Of A Christian Therapist
Normality and Pathology The first factor that a Christian therapist needs to consider is the
demarcation between what is considered a sinful action and psychopathology, or normal and abnormal
behavior. However, some authors believe abnormal behavior cannot be so concisely defined (Bennett,
2011), because assessment of abnormal behavior is affected by numerous factors, including social and
cultural norms and biases. All cultures have their own formal and informal rules for behavior. These
rules delineate the laws governing socially acceptable behavior and moral standards, usually within
clear boundaries. When a particular social or moral behavior exceeds the norms of a specific culture,
that behavior is viewed as abnormal (Butcher, 2007). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third factor in defining normal and abnormal behavior is the ambiguity of the breakpoint. There is
no clear center point for the division between normal and abnormal. Butcher (2009) argued that there
is no universal agreement with regard to when a behavior crosses a line from normal to abnormal, and
irrespective of any definition there is always some kind of flaw present. He continued that the more a
person demonstrates difficulties in particular areas of his/her life, the greater the likelihood of
abnormality. Nevertheless, the term mental disorder is applied to a set of categories and classifications
of abnormal human functioning. Millon (1969) grouped perspectives on mental disorders into four
different categories. First, there are biophysical theories, which assume that physiological processes
are the primary determining factors of psychopathology. Second, there are intrapsychic theories which
assume that psychological factors determine abnormal psychological behavior. Third, there is
phenomenological theory which talks about the unique experience and perception of each individual,
and how that perception is lived out. Lastly, behavioral theories assume that the process of learning
through reinforcement shapes pathology in the individual. In the end, the categorization of mental
disorder is inadequate because it does not do justice to the complexity of cognitive, emotional,
spiritual, behavioral and relational factors that are at work in the development

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mascot
In his article, In Richmond, students seek to revive Rebel mascot published by The Washington Post,
T. Rees Shapiro says that a group of students, graduates and parents started and signed a petition to
bring back an old mascot because many students think or have the concept that the mascot will be a
catalyst to improve the school s spirit, the athletic occurrence and others; yet, because the mascot
represents rebels , which shows relations to the confederacy and slavery, it is controversial. However,
proponents of the mascot change such as Charlie Bonner says that although the idea of a Confederate
soldier appears to bring bad memories to many people and many schools and universities such as the
University of Mississippi, got rid of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Shapiro states that past a 1200 people that signed and the 1950s decade that
Shapiro explained that the Freeman School started to use the mascot for sports events; if for instance
Shapiro used words such as exactly 1200 people or stated one year that is between the 1950s, the
information would not be credible because the number of people was still growing and there is no
proof of the exact year that the school started to use the mascot in the article (Shapiro). Another
example may be the number people that signed the petition and the year that Douglas Southall
Freeman School opened, which is 1954 (Shapiro). Therefore, because Shapiro used a large number of
people in which, for example, of a County, is somehow significant because the numbers show a
positive argument of the article. Also, by showing the year that the school was opened, the year may
represent a phenomenal proof of the argument because it may be showing that the story of the
Confederate flag may have started in between the decade when the school was created. Nevertheless,
given that many readers would want source links because they may think that source credibility is the
most important element, Shapiro s unwavering path to credibility may be at risk. Many readers
analyze many texts or articles because of their website and author s transparency to the readers to
access the source links. For this reason, the capacity for readers to see where the information came
from, may be a way to not lead the website into a façade and a way to guarantee that the information
is reliable and credible. In spite of the fact given that many readers seek credible sources that possess
source links, the fact that Shapiro used words such as some, often and more than, he may not be
showing a strong certainty

Daufuskie Island In The Movie Conrack
In the movie Conrack it tells the real story of Pat Conroy teaching on Daufuskie Island in South
Carolina. This story takes place on the fictional island of Yamacraw in the early 1970s that is a poor
and predominantly black area. As he moves from the more affluent Beaufort, he has to come
accustomed to his new surroundings. From the dialect the isolated people of the island speak to the
ways that their society operates Conroy has to figure out how to connect with the people and his
students. The school he is assigned to is run by a mean spirited Principal who believes in whipping the
kids to keep them in line. Another aspect of his new teaching conditions is the dilapidated school
house and lack of resources in the school. Eventually Conroy,

Wit By Margaret Edson
In the play Wit, by Margaret Edson, the reader is challenged with the complex ideas of character
development following the imminent shadow of death. Edson focuses this concept amongst the
character Vivian bearing; the disciplined, witty, and quite frankly cold hearted protagonist. The play
starts with us seeing Vivian receiving her diagnosis; stage IV ovarian cancer, with her being in the
final stage. The persistent and impending idea of death encourages Vivian to reconsider what is truly
critical in obtaining happiness, while influencing her to reconsider her past unfavorable actions. As
human beings we are attuned to resolve conflicts, so when an inevitable circumstances arise an
individual will often consider their past actions and attempt to find what is of true importance in the
quest to find happiness in their present life, allowing them to be content.
Initially, the audience see Vivian as a person who is very uncompromising. The students she taught
knew her as harsh, making her an unfavorable teacher. She appeared to not care about the students she
taught, and her coldheartedness was reflected in her actions, an example being when one of her
students tried to receive an extension on a paper because of the recent death of her grandmother, at
this request Vivian concluded Do what you will, but the paper is due when it is due. This impenetrable
exterior that Vivian places upon herself discourages the formation of beneficial relationships from
being formed in her

Why Should Child Beauty Pageants Be Banned
Child beauty pageants create a boned with parent and child because they spend a lot of time together,
communication, and having something in common. For example, the child and parent will have to
spend a lot of time together. They will have to do hair and makeup which will last anywhere to two
hours to almost three. All the categories that the child joins will take time to practice which most
children send about seven hours a week on it, and with their parent being their coach that means they
will be doing all those things together ( Children and Beauty Pageants ). Another example,
communication is a big one. It is hard to get a teenage daughter to talk to the parent, but having
communication will help the relationship. The communication will be hard, but having something in
common will help. Which leads to the last example, having something in common can be hard if the
kid plays tennis or another sport because they will have a coach to help them unless the parent is the
coach. In most cases for pageants the parent is the coach so will always have something to talk about (
Children and Beauty Pageants ). As a result the parent and child boned will be stronger than it would
be with another sport. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the judges are worrying about how the kid looks on stage so the kids will have to worry
about it also. Another example, the mothers are making their kids do beauty pageants to make up for
what they have lost. The mothers lost their glory days as they grew up so they are forcing the kids to
do these things ( Should childhood beauty pageants be banned ). However, this is not true for every
family. Not all moms force their kids to do that. As a result, the kids are learning skills that will be
needed and are doing pageants by their

Pest Control In Silent Spring
Rachel Carson s Silent Spring is still today as controversial, groundbreaking, and relevant as it was
when it was first published in 1962. The book argues that uncontrolled and unexamined pesticide use
harms and even kills not only animals, but humans too. Carson documents the negative effects of
pesticides on the environment. The text includes strong accusations against the chemical industry and
a call to look at how the use of chemicals can cause damage and impact the world around us. The
book s intended audience is the general public because Carson wants to bring the problem of harmful
pesticide use to everyone s attention. She also successfully demonstrates the fragility of the
biodiversity on the planet and emphasizes how chemical use can have large repercussions.
How could intelligent beings seek to control a few unwanted species by a method that contaminated
the entire environment and brought the threat of disease and death event to their own kind? (8) Rachel
Carson s question, asked in Silent Spring, requires the reader to take stock in the conditions under
which Americans at the time were dealing with pest control. The title, Silent Spring, comes from the
silence in many forests and meadows due to the poisoning of songbirds, insects and other
invertebrates, and even plants. This now historical account of the use of pesticides has raised America
s awareness of the dangers of agricultural chemicals that had become commonly accepted during this
time.

Essay On Competitive Strategy
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
If a value creating strategy is implemented by an Organization and it is not being implemented at the
same time by another organization, one can say the organization has a competitive advantage over its
competitors. It is imperative for a firm to choose the height of competitive advantage it wants to attain
in the industry. An organization must aim to initiate a profitable and sustainable spot against your
competitors in the same industry. WHAT IS COMPETITIVE STRATEGY?
Competitive strategies are long term plans/steps by which an organization achieves a competitive
advantage in the market over its rivals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a firm possesses high skilled Human Resource that can successfully implement this strategy, it will
reduce price sensitivity and improve brand loyalty from consumers.
For example, iPhone is so different that even a 5 year old can differentiate it from other phones; its
uniqueness is second to none, which makes it hard for their competitors to overrun them in the market.
This strategy focuses on creating uniqueness such that a firm s product and services are clearly
differentiated from its rivals. Innovation and creativity is the primary focus of this strategy and this
has long been identified as the necessary ingredients to obtaining a competitive advantage.
FOCUS STRATEGY
Focus strategy is a competitive strategy that selects a segment or group of segments in an industry and
focuses its strategy to serving them only. Focus strategy recognizes that selling to a homogenous
customer group may not be very effective for the product and services of the firm. Instead they focus
its marketing efforts on a selected market segments. They identify the needs, wants and interests of the
particular market segments and customize marketing techniques to reflect those needs, wants and
interests.
The above competitive strategies (Cost Leadership strategy, Differentiation strategy and Focus
strategy) can only take place in

The Conflict Between The Middle East Region
Modern political discourse in the United States, particularly in the realm of foreign policy (whether it
occurs in the academic community, political institutions, or in the press), has increasingly become
more focused on the Middle East region. The United States continues view the Middle East as an area
of instability in which the country s economic interests, particularly oil, are often threatened and at
risk. The on going Israeli Palestinian conflict, which has lasted over sixty years, is a prime opportunity
for the United States to take initiative in both protecting its interests in the Middle East region as well
as forming stronger alliances with Arab states through the process of cooperation via negotiation.
Careful analysis of the history and strategies utilized in the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and
the Palestinians reveals that Israel s policy of deterrence and military dominance over Palestinians is
in fact oppressive and unjust at times (and that Palestinian resentment is a rational response). The
United States decision to continually support Israel with substantial aid (backed by public opinion and
taxpayers) severely damages the United States reputation with Arab countries in the region; limiting
the United States effectiveness in foreign policy in the region as a whole. In order to protect United
States interests, bring more stability to the area, and encourage more cooperation between Arab states
and the United States in the Middle East, the

Doris Day History Dbq Analysis
In the 1950s, postwar we saw a huge effort for the reconstruction of families. The roles of each person
in the family had a purpose. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have been good for
the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every need. While this
trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a conservative time but many
women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all women were married. Not all women
had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroe were
some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come about. The sex appeal of women changed during this
era but icons made a huge difference. They have molded what we are today and what women have
evolved into. Doris Day was what an independent woman was supposed to be like. She gave that
image but she was not married and she did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other
three icons broke that mold but Doris Day created the gateway for these icons.
Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Like the Super Bowl and the Emmys, the
contest has become part of America s mythological consciousness, a point of pride and societal
longing. (Ronnie D. Lankford, 1999 2005). The beauty of the 51 individuals wasn t a bad thing either
especially since the women were running around practically naked. The process of beautiful women
being judge purely on looks during a time when

The Loose Cinematic Retelling Of The Novel Mildred...
The loose cinematic retelling of the novel Mildred Pierce into a more marketable noir murder mystery
greatly changes aspects of the story s literary point of view : how the story is portrayed or narrated.
The film employs a third person point of view giving us extremely limited access to the thoughts of
the characters. In the novel James Cain utilizes a third person limited perspective, allowing the reader
to know Mildred s thoughts and emotions. As a result the meaning of the story greatly varies between
the two. While Mildred s actions in the two versions of the story are, for the most part, similar, access
to her thoughts change their meaning. Without knowing her thoughts and emotions, Mildred s
devotion to Veda in the film appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both stories Mildred gives everything she has for Veda. She devotes all her energy searching for a
job to support Veda s expensive lifestyle. Here the difference in perspective between the two versions
greatly changes the significance of her actions. In the film she is rejected from every job until
accepting the chance to be a waitress without hesitation. In the novel Mildred is presented with
multiple job opportunities. Despite these openings Mildred rejects them and is repulsed by the idea of
menial labor. The reason being is because she is terrified by how Veda will look down on her for doing
such work. It isn t until she realizes the graveness of her situation that she resigns herself and accepts
the job as a waitress. Access to Mildred s internal conflict in the novel during her search greatly
changes the meaning of her actions. Her willingness to be a waiter in film characterizes her as a
mother willing to do anything for her daughter s wellbeing. Mildred rejecting similar positions and
shamefully accepting the job in the book characterizes her as more concerned with what her daughter
will think of her than actually taking care of her. When Veda discovers Mildred s job as a waitress she
mocks her. Both versions of the story have Mildred striking Veda to punish her and breaking down
into tears after doing so. The film portrays her crying because she is saddened by causing harm to her

COPA was the leading authority by which accrediting organizations were deemed legitimate. One way
the ACES sought to gain approval from COPA, was by creating intentionally distinct entry level
preparation for both master s and doctoral level. This decision made it possible to have accreditation
of doctorate programs which gives CACREP multiple advantages over other accrediting
establishments, such as American Psychological Association (APA). Other precursors, such as a push
for state accreditation in California during the late 1970s, aided the pushed for national accreditation.
This is just a brief history of how CACREP was developed though agreements with existing
accreditation programs, multiple professional and political maneuvers, and a determination to further
develop the counseling discipline (Sweeney, 1992).
CACREP s first meeting was held in September 1981 and the organization adopted the ACES
standards as the first set of standards for CACREP (Bobby, 2013). By 1986, CACREP had received
several requests to include specialty standards, CACREP created a policy that stated standard
revisions would occur on a scheduled basis. The purpose of this new policy was to organize the review

The Kristallnacht And The Holocaust
Before WWII and even WWI, Jews had always been persecuted and looked down upon before these
two horrific wars. The hatred towards the Jewish population was not new, yet it became more
acceptable to be anti Semitic as the propaganda and the political groups sprouted up throughout the
nation, and blamed many Jewish people for Germany s financial woes. This racial discrimination took
moral and ethical barriers down throughout Germany, as harassment of the Jewish populace became
more intense throughout the 1930 s, culminating with Kristallnacht, where many Jews were killed and
persecuted, and Jewish businesses were burned. In 1938 Nazi anti Semitism reached a radical
stage...the clearest sign of treatment of Jews of Europe would face within a few years occurred in the
fall of 1938...thousands of Jewish businesses; thousands of Jews were beaten in the streets and in their
homes and about one hundred were murdered...some synagogues were destroyed, and several
thousand Jews were sent to concentration camps. [4] These events led down a slippery slope toward
the final solution. The Nazi party perpetuated this hatred, and often took part in the events. The
Kristallnacht marked the beginning of the Nazi policy of detaining Jewish people, based solely upon
their ethnicity. Hitler had authorized these events, and was finally realizing his long lived plan of
racial purity within German and Austria. There were also a social precondition against the Jews before

Aspartame Research Paper
The Truth About Aspartame Aspartame is a toxicin to the people who consume it. At least that s what
the critics say. Zero calorie artificial sweeteners reputation has been degraded due to people criticizing
all of the dangers that can come from the consuming of these products. These allegations come from
people who, more than often, lack any credibility or proof of these dangers involved with artificial

good as natural sugars. Aspartame is actually the most researched sweetener to date and has been
scientifically proven that it has no negative effect towards depression, cancer, and people with a
sensitivity to aspartame. Aspartame is a chemical that is broken down into 3 different substances
aspartic acid(40%), methanol(10%), and phenylalanine(50%). Of these compounds methanol is what

This paper is submitted for the EDEC 5970 Social Emotion in Early Childhood as part of the course
requirement.
Abstract
Early childhood development occurs in six domains. This paper discusses the role of play and its
effects on these domains in children learning. Different types play and play centers were discussed to
show connectivity of the play type and domain development. Interactions among children during play
can enhance cooperative learning using methods and materials used in the play center. Teacher plays
important role to set up the play center, method and materials to be used, and create the learning
environment with specific goal setting. Intervention approach by asking different types of questions
help them to engage, make learning fun, and effective collaborative learning.
Introduction
. Early childhood development takes place in six domains including physical, language, social,
cognitive, emotional, and cultural. Figure 1 shows all six domains in early childhood development.

Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Pregnancy when a young female conceives a child and is under the age of
20 by the end of the pregnancy period. How do these young girls cope with pregnancy at such a young
age? Pregnant teens may be worried about how to tell their family and what everybody else will think
about the situation. They In my paper I am going to talk about the risk factors, causes, choices of what
to do with the child, health risks for an infant of a teenage mother, and the effects it puts on the
teenager with her education, careers, opportunities, and relationships. At the end of my paper I hope to
have gave more detail about teenage pregnancy. For parents of teenage girls, concerns about
pregnancy are common. There is good reason for concern as at current rates about one third of teen
girls will become pregnant (Rudlin para 1). There are many risk factors that can be associated with the
pregnancy. These can have anything to do with family, peers, community/culture, or their own
individual self. It helps to know the risk factors that can increase the likelihood of a teen becoming
pregnant. Some factors that have to do with family can be lack of parental supervision or lack of
positive family interaction. Peer factors are dealing with friends that are sexually active or dealing
with sexual pressure from peers. Some community/culture risk factors that increase the chance of teen

The Curriculum For Excellence And Education
The Curriculum for Excellence, introduced in 2014, aims to transform education in Scotland for ages
3 18. It intends to progress the standards of education and learning in the country by moving away
from more traditional methods of teaching. This strategy, developed by the Scottish Government,
recognises that learning is a lifelong process, beginning at birth, and therefore it is important to
employ methods which prepare children from a young age for a life of work. In order to do so, the
curriculum is based on seven key principles which are designed to provide young people with the
knowledge and skills for life in the 21st century. This knowledge and skill is learnt through
experiences and opportunities which are carefully planned for each age group, encouraging space for
learning out with the standard school subject boundaries. The programme has four main outcomes
prompting children to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and
effective contributors. Once an individual has completed the education programme, reflections of the
curriculum s purpose can be assessed in the child or young person to see if they have met the proposed
outcomes and therefore determining the overall success.
One of the key principles of the curriculum is Health and Wellbeing. This area focuses on the
development and maintenance of young people s mental, emotional, social and physical health. As
well as promoting a healthy lifestyle, full of activity, challenge and

likely to be shot in an assault than victims without guns as they are not able to use concealed guns as
attackers overpower them and also surprise them. In everyday life, there is a chance you will be put in
a situation where self defense will be needed and there is also a higher chance that the criminal or
person you are protecting yourself from will be armed. We can all conjure up the night mare scenario
of being defenseless in a violent confrontation with a burglar, mugger, carjacker, rapist, or gangs of
youth. Violent criminals will always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many other people cannot always rely on the police force because they are late to help citizens in
need. The police almost always arrive to the scene of a crime after a crime has been committed. A
2013 research article in the Wall Street Journal reported that the average police response time to an
emergency call is 11 minutes, with some responses taking much longer. In many cases the police force
appears a little bit too late to a situation and leave victims helpless until they finally arrive to the
scene. A man called 911 to report that an intruder was in his apartment threatening him. The man was
forced to shoot the intruder fatally before the police were able to arrive (The Bias Against Guns 17).
By being able to carry a concealed weapon, one has the power to defend themselves and others in
dangerous situations and maybe even scare off the

Analysis Of Our Town In Act III By Thorton Wilder
Our Town in Act III, Thorton Wilder give the reader a glimpse of what he thinks heaven is like. He
believed that as a dead person you will be able to live out memories. As a dead person you can see
what someone is doing. But is that Biblical? The Bible does not talk about being sad in heaven , nor
does it say that you will finally see how precious life is. As a Christian you have to be aware of what
your exposing yourself to, because you can end up believing a lie. In Act III Emily is now in Heaven
talking with those who died before her. In Heaven, she decides to visit her birthday, where she comes
to the painful realization that she did not appreciate life. Emily became emotionally distressed after
going through the memory and all of her

How Does Darcy Mature
One of the hardest things to understand as you mature is that you will be wrong a lot. What is even
harder, though, is admitting to yourself that you are incorrect, and intentionally changing yourself
based on new information. The novel Pride and Prejudice revolves around Elizabeth Bennet and her
interactions with Mr. Darcy, a man she originally takes to be rude and cold, but later realizes is
generous and well mannered. This realization is part of her coming into maturity. Though she appears
as twenty one in the novel, she still only truly comes into womanhood in the moment she admits she
was wrong about Mr. Darcy after reading his explanatory letter. More than half of the novel shows
Elizabeth hating the man she met at a Netherfield ball.

Cost Of College Fees
For most, the thought of how much money is spent on college gives prospective students a
headache. The cost is still high despite the implementation of scholarships and financial aid included.
When a student or parent receive the dreaded bill from a university, it is assumed that all the expenses
are written on the bill, but that is not always the case. Instead many secondary schools have been
introducing additional costs, which in most cases are not relevant to the student. For example,
California Polytechnic State has the annual $814 student success fee , which is snuck into the cost of
tuition as mandatory (Sharpe). People are being cheated by their schools when they are unknowingly
paying for hidden fees such as student success or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The schools themselves dupe students into supporting additional costs with votes. According to Dr.
Vedder, as quoted in the New York Times, said that universities use students for cover (Sharpe).
Universities do this by casting votes on fees however they know students would like an improved
campus etc.. By doing this, they can manipulate the students and say the student body wanted this or
that so we had to raise a price here or there. However, as found from audits of various schools, the
money is not spent on what it should be leaving an unsatisfied and broke student

Gender Roles In Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon
The generation that we live in is so driven to prove that women can do all that men can do, but in all
the while they are losing how they even got the chance to be there. Looking back in history and not
even dating back that far, women were seen as less than that of the men. That was not only seen in day
to activities but was strongly depicted in detective novels, both the classical and the hard boiled
stories. Women were seen as less, not worthy of being spoken to with respect, told to strip down and
just all around treated as less of person and spoken to as if they were dog. While women are
detectives, they are still seen under the male detectives, women were seen as less in the detective
fictions because the male roles tend to belittle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the hard boil detective fictions women we seen as weaker on a scale of strength and power

thought about the women being as they are, which was not much more then what met the eye. The
Author proposed a statement that was merely cultural which led the readers access inside his mind in
regards to what he thought about the chance of women being able to be independent. Female

to solve puzzles and crimes, the solution was usually cast in terms of women s sensibilities, (Graffeo).
Graffeo came from a culture in which it goes against all costumes to have a strong female who goes

The Power of Rebuilding
Warwood was still in shambles, and normal kingdom life had been suspended until essential repairs
were completed. Since Xavier couldn t physically lift and move things due to his injured hand, his
father had assigned him to one of his most trusted friends, General Loren Hardcastle, who was
organizing telekinetic citizens. Today, their task was to clear out rubble and assist masons and
construction workers in rebuilding the gatehouse, which had been demolished during the initial
onslaught of LeMasters invasion.
Rebuilding of the gatehouse would be a simple task and Xavier was looking forward to doing
something constructive, regardless of how tedious or boring it might become. Although his powers
could be intense at times, he felt confident that he had a secure command over them and could
summon them without difficulty. He didn t like to brag, but there were few kids in the kingdom who
could rival his empowerment level and strength.
However, there was one power that still proved challenging for Xavier: that of impediment. He
struggled to block telepathic advances, especially when faced with a strong, capable telepath. His
confrontation with William LeMasters only punctuated this deficiency. Although he had made gains in
impediment and could, at times, hoodwink Uncle Mike, his father was a different matter altogether.
The king was the most powerful telepathic alive. For this reason, when the new school term began,
Uncle Mike would no longer be teaching him telepathy; his

How carbon dioxide can affect the rate of photosynthesis
Aim: To investigate how carbon dioxide can affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Hypothesis: The rate of photosynthesis in the water plant hydrilla will change as the rate of carbon
dioxide changes.
Background information: Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process of autotrophs turning carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates and
oxygen, using light energy from sunlight. Autotrophs are organisms that are able to produce nutrients
and organic compounds using inorganic materials. Examples of autotrophs are green plants, algae,
bacteria, etc. Organisms which are capable to photosynthesize are called photoautotroph. The
chloroplasts (plant cell that contains chlorophyll) in autotrophs trap light energy from the sun and use
it to combine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apparatus:
1 beaker
1 lamp
1 ruler
1 transparent plastic shield
1 glass funnel with plastic tubes to let the funnel sink to the bottom of the beaker which stabilizes the
funnel
1 test tube
1 stopwatch
1 spatula
1 jar of sodium hydrogen carbonate
1 balance
1 hydrilla (a type of water plant)
Set up:
Closer look at the beaker: Method/Procedure:
1. Set up: Measure the amount of sodium hydrogen carbonate (2, 4, 6, 8, 10g) to be mixed with water
in the beaker. This is the only independent variable in this experiment.
2. Set up: Measure and pour 650ml of water into a beaker and mix it with sodium hydrogen carbonate
using a stirring rod until all the sodium hydrogen carbonate has dissolved into the water.
3. Set up: Place the beaker in front of a lamp covered with a transparent plastic shield.
4. Recording data: Measure the distance between the lamp and the beaker. It should be 70cm at all
times because it is a control variable. This cannot be changed because light intensity affects the rate of
photosynthesis. If the plant is too close to the lamp, the results would be most affect by light intensity
instead of carbon dioxide and the results would not be accurate. 5. Set up: Choose a hydrilla and put it
into a funnel with plastic tubes and cut the end of the hydrilla s stem to let bubble came out of the
stem when conducting the experiment. Then take it out from the funnel s narrow opening. Place the

Questions on Innovation Management and iPod Licensing
Innovation Management IPod Licensing Question 1 Innovation management and organisational
characteristics Innovation is one word that is commonly used, but the real meaning of the word has
never been revealed to the masses that use the term almost every day. Now, what is Innovation?
Innovation is the process by which an invention or an idea is transformed into a tangible good or
service, which people can actually pay, or something that is a result of the process. For an idea to
qualify to be an innovation, a replication of an idea must occur at economical cost and must meet a
certain need. Innovation therefore is a purposeful appliance of imagination, initiative and information
in deriving value from resources, it also encompasses all the processes by which the new ideas are
engendered and turned into useful products. In business particularly, innovation results from the
application of a scientific or rather the technical idea that can reduce the gap between the expectations
and the ideas of the consumers and the performance of the companies products. On the other hand in a
social set up, innovation is also important in coming up with new method such as venturing jointly,
creation of alliances, creation of flexible hours of working, and generally creating the purchasing
power of the buyers, through various methods such as the layaway plans. Innovations are categorised
into two broad ways: Evolutionary innovations, this is brought about by the numerous advances in

Raphael Sanzio Da Urbino Essay
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, known as Raphael, has known art all of his life. His father, Giovanni
Santi, was a painter for the Duke of Urbino, Federigo da Montefeltro. After his death, in 1494,
Raphael took over his father s workshop and surpassed the painting skills that Giovanni. In 1500,
when Raphael was about seventeen, he became an apprentice to Perugino. This apprenticeship only
lasted about four years once Raphael quickly gained all the knowledge and experience that Perugino
had to offer, and was able to quickly morph those techniques into his own style. Raphael was a man
who always had a great eye for great art. In 1504, he left Perugino studio and went in search of the
greatest artists that were flourishing their art throughout Italy. Once Raphael discovers where all the
greats were located he quickly made his way and quickly learned from their techniques and made

Safety Systems Of The Airline Industry
Long over a week ago, news that a commercial airliner operated by United Airlines was allegedly
hacked and redirected in midair by One World Labs Founder Chris Roberts, sparked questions
regarding whether such a task is possible and if so, what it may mean in terms of future transportation
safety. With security always being a prime concern in the airline industry, this claim from Chris
Roberts has raised a number of concerns from experts as well as the general public They are both
eager to know the extent to which this story is true. Historically a plane s control systems have been
very manual, based on hydraulics and mechanical circuits, with some form of automation of the
control systems, however in the last couple of decades, the control systems have been upgraded and
today most modern jet liners are controlled by electronic control systems also known as a fly by wire
controls. These upgrades have been required in order to increase reliability as well as support the
increased functionality required by the control systems to operate more sophisticated engines and
much larger planes. Each new plane comes equipped more automated than the last. The question on
everyone s mind is, should I worry? There are some fundamental things that airplane manufacturers
and their related partners have done to protect against such attacks. First of all, there is a strong
separation between the entertainment system and the avionics control systems. Of course after the
recent claims there

The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargai
Plea bargaining is what individuals would rather do to solve their cases and receive their sentencing
rather than bringing their cases to a trial. Countless individuals would rather take a plea deal then go
through with a trial because trials can last a long time and can come to a longer verdict than with a
plea deal. A plea deal is an agreement that the defendant and the prosecution must agree on in hopes to
benefit from the decision (Plea Bargains or Agreements and Sentencing, 2015). Two of the most
common plea deals are either guilty pleas or no contest pleas where the defendant does not admit or
deny that they committed the crime. In the case of Larry Servedio, he should accept the plea deal
because he is only being sentenced for two consecutive counts of second degree kidnapping. Servedio
will serve fifteen years in state prison seven and a half years for each count which is less time than he
would serve in state prison if he was charged for all his crimes. The process of a plea ... Show more

In addition, plea deals allow the prosecutors to free up their time to focus on other cases and ensures a
conviction for the prosecutor. If represented by a private attorney, the defendant saves money by not
having to retain a lawyer as representation any longer. The downside of a plea bargain could leave an
innocent defendant found guilty and charged for a harsher sentence than what a judge would charge.
In addition, plea bargaining could lead to rushed police investigation where they do not take their time
to look over every piece of evidence (The Pros and Cons of Plea Bargaining, 2015). Some judges may
even believe that plea bargaining is unconstitutional because they are settling for a crime that they
committed and not allowing a judge to do

Formalism In The Novel The Illegal
By applying the formalist lens to the novel, The Illegal, the deeper meaning of struggle and hardships
faced by refugees in unknown and neighboring lands is depicted. Formalism is the analysis of
literature itself through its literacy devices, themes and structure. There is no outside information used
to understand the text, such as the authors personal life and the history of the era in which the book is
written in. All characters in the novel are dealing with their own struggles which ties in with Keita, the
protagonist s story. Viola, uses Keita s refugee and illegal immigrant status to discover private
information about Zantoroland and its relations to Freedom State. Similarly, John benefits from Keita
s fame and respect, while Anton gains money. The author, Lawrence Hill, uses literary devices such as
metaphors, irony and imagery to shape the novel s theme of survival and struggle. To survive is not to
live life, but just continuing to exist despite struggling through obstacles.
Hill uses metaphors to foreshadow the theme of survival Keita is forced to combat. As Keita describes
himself running, he has learned to strike with his feet soundlessly (Hill, 1), he highlights the word
strike; to hit deliberately with one s hand or a weapon. Keita uses running as his weapon in the novel.
In the fictional country of Zantoroland, running brings riches and honours which symbolizes privilege
(17). However, in Freedom State, Keita uses running as a tool to just stay alive.

many people reflect enthusiasm by watching tv shows or even movies about it.

The Mission Statement Of Coca Cola
Does Coca Cola s website match its mission statement?
Mission statements are important because they show an organisation s purpose. It is important for
companies to have a strong mission statement because a strong mission statement brings your essence
into focus so it is crystal clear who you are, what you do, and why you do it. (MissionStatements.com,
n.d.). Therefore, it is important that a company s website reflects its mission statement because the site
could be a first point of reference both for consumers and stakeholders. Coca Cola s mission statement

Angelas Ashes Essay 5
Angela s Ashes
When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I survived at all. It was, of course, a miserable
childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable
childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.
Thus begins the highly celebrated memoir by the name of Angela s Ashes, written by Frank McCourt.
In this book Frank McCourt writes about his childhood, how his parents meet in New York and then
decide to return to Ireland. He describes what it is like to be at the bottom of that city s tough social
hierarchy, giving vivid descriptions of how class imposes severe limitations and restrictions. It is this
topic, this theme, to which I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Frank shows promise at school, showing a quick mind and naturally reaching for more
demanding literature, he is denied the opportunity to become an altar boy. He is denied the chance of
obtaining the higher education he hungers for. It is important to understand how deeply rooted the
class system in Great Britain including Ireland, was in the beginning of the 20th century. In modern
Europe it is difficult to identify the classes that, during the first half of the century, were extremely
socially significant. It is also difficult to comprehend the extreme poverty of the Depression years.
There was no unemployment insurance, no health insurance and there were no safety nets for the poor.
They were left to their own devices. Their source of protection from abject poverty and starvation was
primarily the church. Otherwise the poor were left at the mercy of friends and family, and on a daily
basis had to swallow their pride. With regard to getting out of this vicious cycle of poverty and
starvation, again it was the church that had the primary responsibility for and control over education.
As has been noted Frank s attempts at becoming a part of the social and religious system that could
take him out of poverty were disrupted by that same system. Frank s struggle for acceptance and
participation in the higher social groups is essential for an analytical understanding

I Am An American Teenager With An Hispanic Background
Nowadays, people are exposed to more cultures that they are not accustomed to than in the past. As
the years go by, more interracial marriages are being accepted exposing future generations to multi
cultures. I am an American teenager with an Hispanic background. My parents, born and raised in
Guatemala immigrated to the United States a few years before my birth. Since my birth, I have been
exposed to two very different types of cultures. I have lived in the United States all my life while I
have visited Guatemala a couple of times for a few weeks each. Being more accustomed to life in the
United States, life in Guatemala is very distinctive. Communicating with family in Guatemala was
definitely more challenging than communicating with the family back home in the United States.
These types of situations have led to complexities in communication, a topic that LaRay M. Barna
analyzes thoroughly in her article Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks. The complexities
in communication that Barna addresses are spread into five stumbling blocks: language, nonverbal
signs and symbols, preconceptions and stereotypes, tendency to evaluate, and high anxiety. These five
stumbling blocks can occur in any shape or form in communication between two cultures. Language,
nonverbal signs and symbols, as well as preconceptions and stereotypes are the stumbling blocks that
occurred most when communicating with my family that reside in Guatemala. According to Barna,

  • 2. A Public Health Assessment ( Pre Pha ) SUMMARY INTRODUCTION In this Preliminary Public Health Assessment (Pre PHA), we evaluated exposure of the Milneburge neighborhood community to contaminants in response to their public health complaint with the City of New Orleans. . The homeowners in the neighborhood started to complain of nausea, headache, and dyspnea when they work in their back yards and reported water runoff and soil erosion from the waste management site. So, they were really concerned about their children health because they used to play in the area. As a result of that, we evaluated some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are chemical compounds found in nature or released from burning of coal, oil, tobacco, and wood. Some of these compounds are toxic to lung, liver, and skin. By such Pre PHA, We can know if the site is extremely contaminated or not and we can assure residents and give them answers about their concerns. SITE TIMELINE Our site is a land in the northwestern region of the French Quarter. In the early 20th century, the New Orleans Land Co. owned the land when it was grown up to a modern neighborhood with subdivisions and street network after spending a lot of money. In 1917, the Rosemount cemetery was constructed upon it. Millard University bought the whole land in 1940 and by 1961, the University sold the trapezoidal open land to an industrial waste company. They established incinerators and worked for almost 8 years. In 1980, the City of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Normality And Pathology Of A Christian Therapist Normality and Pathology The first factor that a Christian therapist needs to consider is the demarcation between what is considered a sinful action and psychopathology, or normal and abnormal behavior. However, some authors believe abnormal behavior cannot be so concisely defined (Bennett, 2011), because assessment of abnormal behavior is affected by numerous factors, including social and cultural norms and biases. All cultures have their own formal and informal rules for behavior. These rules delineate the laws governing socially acceptable behavior and moral standards, usually within clear boundaries. When a particular social or moral behavior exceeds the norms of a specific culture, that behavior is viewed as abnormal (Butcher, 2007). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third factor in defining normal and abnormal behavior is the ambiguity of the breakpoint. There is no clear center point for the division between normal and abnormal. Butcher (2009) argued that there is no universal agreement with regard to when a behavior crosses a line from normal to abnormal, and irrespective of any definition there is always some kind of flaw present. He continued that the more a person demonstrates difficulties in particular areas of his/her life, the greater the likelihood of abnormality. Nevertheless, the term mental disorder is applied to a set of categories and classifications of abnormal human functioning. Millon (1969) grouped perspectives on mental disorders into four different categories. First, there are biophysical theories, which assume that physiological processes are the primary determining factors of psychopathology. Second, there are intrapsychic theories which assume that psychological factors determine abnormal psychological behavior. Third, there is phenomenological theory which talks about the unique experience and perception of each individual, and how that perception is lived out. Lastly, behavioral theories assume that the process of learning through reinforcement shapes pathology in the individual. In the end, the categorization of mental disorder is inadequate because it does not do justice to the complexity of cognitive, emotional, spiritual, behavioral and relational factors that are at work in the development ... • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of Mascot In his article, In Richmond, students seek to revive Rebel mascot published by The Washington Post, T. Rees Shapiro says that a group of students, graduates and parents started and signed a petition to bring back an old mascot because many students think or have the concept that the mascot will be a catalyst to improve the school s spirit, the athletic occurrence and others; yet, because the mascot represents rebels , which shows relations to the confederacy and slavery, it is controversial. However, proponents of the mascot change such as Charlie Bonner says that although the idea of a Confederate soldier appears to bring bad memories to many people and many schools and universities such as the University of Mississippi, got rid of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, when Shapiro states that past a 1200 people that signed and the 1950s decade that Shapiro explained that the Freeman School started to use the mascot for sports events; if for instance Shapiro used words such as exactly 1200 people or stated one year that is between the 1950s, the information would not be credible because the number of people was still growing and there is no proof of the exact year that the school started to use the mascot in the article (Shapiro). Another example may be the number people that signed the petition and the year that Douglas Southall Freeman School opened, which is 1954 (Shapiro). Therefore, because Shapiro used a large number of people in which, for example, of a County, is somehow significant because the numbers show a positive argument of the article. Also, by showing the year that the school was opened, the year may represent a phenomenal proof of the argument because it may be showing that the story of the Confederate flag may have started in between the decade when the school was created. Nevertheless, given that many readers would want source links because they may think that source credibility is the most important element, Shapiro s unwavering path to credibility may be at risk. Many readers analyze many texts or articles because of their website and author s transparency to the readers to access the source links. For this reason, the capacity for readers to see where the information came from, may be a way to not lead the website into a façade and a way to guarantee that the information is reliable and credible. In spite of the fact given that many readers seek credible sources that possess source links, the fact that Shapiro used words such as some, often and more than, he may not be showing a strong certainty ... • 6. Wit By Margaret Edson In the play Wit, by Margaret Edson, the reader is challenged with the complex ideas of character development following the imminent shadow of death. Edson focuses this concept amongst the character Vivian bearing; the disciplined, witty, and quite frankly cold hearted protagonist. The play starts with us seeing Vivian receiving her diagnosis; stage IV ovarian cancer, with her being in the final stage. The persistent and impending idea of death encourages Vivian to reconsider what is truly critical in obtaining happiness, while influencing her to reconsider her past unfavorable actions. As human beings we are attuned to resolve conflicts, so when an inevitable circumstances arise an individual will often consider their past actions and attempt to find what is of true importance in the quest to find happiness in their present life, allowing them to be content. Initially, the audience see Vivian as a person who is very uncompromising. The students she taught knew her as harsh, making her an unfavorable teacher. She appeared to not care about the students she taught, and her coldheartedness was reflected in her actions, an example being when one of her students tried to receive an extension on a paper because of the recent death of her grandmother, at this request Vivian concluded Do what you will, but the paper is due when it is due. • 7. Why Should Child Beauty Pageants Be Banned Child beauty pageants create a boned with parent and child because they spend a lot of time together, communication, and having something in common. For example, the child and parent will have to spend a lot of time together. They will have to do hair and makeup which will last anywhere to two hours to almost three. All the categories that the child joins will take time to practice which most children send about seven hours a week on it, and with their parent being their coach that means they will be doing all those things together ( Children and Beauty Pageants ). Another example, communication is a big one. It is hard to get a teenage daughter to talk to the parent, but having communication will help the relationship. The communication will be hard, but having something in common will help. Which leads to the last example, having something in common can be hard if the kid plays tennis or another sport because they will have a coach to help them unless the parent is the coach. In most cases for pageants the parent is the coach so will always have something to talk about ( Children and Beauty Pageants ). As a result the parent and child boned will be stronger than it would be with another sport. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the judges are worrying about how the kid looks on stage so the kids will have to worry about it also. Another example, the mothers are making their kids do beauty pageants to make up for what they have lost. The mothers lost their glory days as they grew up so they are forcing the kids to do these things ( Should childhood beauty pageants be banned ). However, this is not true for every family. Not all moms force their kids to do that. As a result, the kids are learning skills that will be needed and are doing pageants by their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Pest Control In Silent Spring Rachel Carson s Silent Spring is still today as controversial, groundbreaking, and relevant as it was when it was first published in 1962. The book argues that uncontrolled and unexamined pesticide use harms and even kills not only animals, but humans too. Carson documents the negative effects of pesticides on the environment. The text includes strong accusations against the chemical industry and a call to look at how the use of chemicals can cause damage and impact the world around us. The book s intended audience is the general public because Carson wants to bring the problem of harmful pesticide use to everyone s attention. She also successfully demonstrates the fragility of the biodiversity on the planet and emphasizes how chemical use can have large repercussions. How could intelligent beings seek to control a few unwanted species by a method that contaminated the entire environment and brought the threat of disease and death event to their own kind? (8) Rachel Carson s question, asked in Silent Spring, requires the reader to take stock in the conditions under which Americans at the time were dealing with pest control. The title, Silent Spring, comes from the silence in many forests and meadows due to the poisoning of songbirds, insects and other invertebrates, and even plants. This now historical account of the use of pesticides has raised America s awareness of the dangers of agricultural chemicals that had become commonly accepted during this time. Since ... Essay On Competitive Strategy COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE If a value creating strategy is implemented by an Organization and it is not being implemented at the same time by another organization, one can say the organization has a competitive advantage over its competitors. It is imperative for a firm to choose the height of competitive advantage it wants to attain in the industry. An organization must aim to initiate a profitable and sustainable spot against your competitors in the same industry. WHAT IS COMPETITIVE STRATEGY? Innovation and creativity is the primary focus of this strategy and this has long been identified as the necessary ingredients to obtaining a competitive advantage. • 10. The Conflict Between The Middle East Region Modern political discourse in the United States, particularly in the realm of foreign policy (whether it occurs in the academic community, political institutions, or in the press), has increasingly become more focused on the Middle East region. The United States continues view the Middle East as an area of instability in which the country s economic interests, particularly oil, are often threatened and at risk. The on going Israeli Palestinian conflict, which has lasted over sixty years, is a prime opportunity for the United States to take initiative in both protecting its interests in the Middle East region as well as forming stronger alliances with Arab states through the process of cooperation via negotiation. Careful analysis of the history and strategies utilized in the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians reveals that Israel s policy of deterrence and military dominance over Palestinians is in fact oppressive and unjust at times (and that Palestinian resentment is a rational response). The United States decision to continually support Israel with substantial aid (backed by public opinion and taxpayers) severely damages the United States reputation with Arab countries in the region; limiting the United States effectiveness in foreign policy in the region as a whole. In order to protect United States interests, bring more stability to the area, and encourage more cooperation between Arab states and the United States in the Middle East, the ... • 11. Doris Day History Dbq Analysis In the 1950s, postwar we saw a huge effort for the reconstruction of families. The roles of each person in the family had a purpose. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have been good for the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every need. While this trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a conservative time but many women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all women were married. Not all women had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroe were some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come about. The sex appeal of women changed during this era but icons made a huge difference. They have molded what we are today and what women have evolved into. • 20. The Curriculum For Excellence And Education The Curriculum for Excellence, introduced in 2014, aims to transform education in Scotland for ages 3 18. It intends to progress the standards of education and learning in the country by moving away from more traditional methods of teaching. This strategy, developed by the Scottish Government, recognises that learning is a lifelong process, beginning at birth, and therefore it is important to employ methods which prepare children from a young age for a life of work. In order to do so, the curriculum is based on seven key principles which are designed to provide young people with the knowledge and skills for life in the 21st century. This knowledge and skill is learnt through experiences and opportunities which are carefully planned for each age group, encouraging space for learning out with the standard school subject boundaries. The programme has four main outcomes prompting children to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. Once an individual has completed the education programme, reflections of the curriculum s purpose can be assessed in the child or young person to see if they have met the proposed outcomes and therefore determining the overall success. One of the key principles of the curriculum is Health and Wellbeing. This area focuses on the development and maintenance of young people s mental, emotional, social and physical health. Now, what is Innovation? Innovation is the process by which an invention or an idea is transformed into a tangible good or service, which people can actually pay, or something that is a result of the process. For an idea to qualify to be an innovation, a replication of an idea must occur at economical cost and must meet a certain need. Innovation therefore is a purposeful appliance of imagination, initiative and information in deriving value from resources, it also encompasses all the processes by which the new ideas are engendered and turned into useful products. In business particularly, innovation results from the application of a scientific or rather the technical idea that can reduce the gap between the expectations and the ideas of the consumers and the performance of the companies products. • 34. Formalism In The Novel The Illegal By applying the formalist lens to the novel, The Illegal, the deeper meaning of struggle and hardships faced by refugees in unknown and neighboring lands is depicted. Formalism is the analysis of literature itself through its literacy devices, themes and structure. There is no outside information used to understand the text, such as the authors personal life and the history of the era in which the book is written in. All characters in the novel are dealing with their own struggles which ties in with Keita, the protagonist s story. Viola, uses Keita s refugee and illegal immigrant status to discover private information about Zantoroland and its relations to Freedom State. Similarly, John benefits from Keita s fame and respect, while Anton gains money. The author, Lawrence Hill, uses literary devices such as metaphors, irony and imagery to shape the novel s theme of survival and struggle. To survive is not to live life, but just continuing to exist despite struggling through obstacles. Hill uses metaphors to foreshadow the theme of survival Keita is forced to combat. • 37. Angelas Ashes Essay 5 Angela s Ashes When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I survived at all. It was, of course, a miserable childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood. Thus begins the highly celebrated memoir by the name of Angela s Ashes, written by Frank McCourt. In this book Frank McCourt writes about his childhood, how his parents meet in New York and then decide to return to Ireland. He describes what it is like to be at the bottom of that city s tough social hierarchy, giving vivid descriptions of how class imposes severe limitations and restrictions. Even though Frank shows promise at school, showing a quick mind and naturally reaching for more demanding literature, he is denied the opportunity to become an altar boy. He is denied the chance of obtaining the higher education he hungers for. It is important to understand how deeply rooted the class system in Great Britain including Ireland, was in the beginning of the 20th century. In modern Europe it is difficult to identify the classes that, during the first half of the century, were extremely socially significant. With regard to getting out of this vicious cycle of poverty and starvation, again it was the church that had the primary responsibility for and control over education. As has been noted Frank s attempts at becoming a part of the social and religious system that could take him out of poverty were disrupted by that same system. Frank s struggle for acceptance and participation in the higher social groups is essential for an analytical understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the years go by, more interracial marriages are being accepted exposing future generations to multi cultures. I am an American teenager with an Hispanic background. My parents, born and raised in Guatemala immigrated to the United States a few years before my birth. Since my birth, I have been exposed to two very different types of cultures. I have lived in the United States all my life while I have visited Guatemala a couple of times for a few weeks each. Being more accustomed to life in the United States, life in Guatemala is very distinctive. Communicating with family in Guatemala was definitely more challenging than communicating with the family back home in the United States. These types of situations have led to complexities in communication, a topic that LaRay M. Barna analyzes thoroughly in her article Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks. The complexities in communication that Barna addresses are spread into five stumbling blocks: language, nonverbal signs and symbols, preconceptions and stereotypes, tendency to evaluate, and high anxiety. These five stumbling blocks can occur in any shape or form in communication between two cultures.
