Why Gay Men and Straight Women Have Such Close Relationships
In a society where homosexuality is an ever growing topic, one might wonder why gay men tend to
have the closest relationships with straight women. Ellen DeGeneres once said, every straight woman
has a gay best friend by their side. Why is this? I decided to read and write about an experiment that
was done to answer the question of why gay men and straight women have such close relationships.
The article s title is, Friend with Benefits, but Without the Sex: Straight Women and Gay men
Exchange Trustworthy Mating Advice. Previous research has been done on this topic and found that
women tend to enjoy a gay man s companionship because there is not sexual strings attached and bias
advice. Gay men find straight women to be extremely trustworthy. Prior research not only compared
homosexual males vs. straight women, but homosexual males vs. homosexual males relationships and
the same with women. For the current research in this article, researchers hypothesized that the
trustworthiness and honesty that often characterizes gay male straight female friendships may be
rooted in mating relevant domains. Basically, with the absence of deceptive mating motivations, one is
able to fully feel comfortable and honest within the friendship and not have to worry that they are
being hit on. This experiment was done in two parts. The first experiment was known as straight
women s perceptions, and the second experiment was known as gay men s

The Grand Valley Brewing Company
Every business has a product that it sells with a specific design. A product analysis helps the business
to understand the product s components, how it is processed, and its economic impact upon the
business before it is produced. Before the Grand Valley Brewing Company can open its doors to
business, it must first evaluate its product.
The Grand Valley Brewing Company (GVBC) is located in Grand Junction, Colorado, which is
centrally located on the Western Slope. The median age is 37 with an average household income of

Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or aluminum can.
Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to can or bottle beer.
There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers tend to think canned
beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however, have put that stigma to rest by
lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore, beer has many enemies, which
impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen and sunlight. Bottles tend to be
expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the top, oxygenation will occur and ruin
a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while oxygen will quickly make a beer stale.
Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra packaging, which need to be disposed thus making
them a not very environmentally friendly product and also makes it more expensive to produce.
GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed to
bottles when bottling beer are numerous:
Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale
Sunlight cannot get through aluminum
Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs
Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings
Bottling decisions are a

Irving Berlin Contributions
Irving Berlin made important contributions to musicals and music writing. After his background
information is provided, the prior sentence will be proven by using examples of the songs he made as
a freelance songwriter, a songwriter for Broadway musical productions , and Hollywood Musical
productions, the popularity of the songs, and the awards.
Israel Berlin who we now know as Irving Berlin, was born May 11th, Eighteen 1888, in the town of
Tyumen, a Siberian city in Russia. He was the one out of eight children. His father, Moses Baline, was
a Cantor in the Jewish Synagogue, and his mother was Lena Lipkin Baline During the time he lived in
Russia, he and his family were treated terribly, for the fact that Russia was at that time attacking the
Jews and the Jewish community. The only thing he remembered about Russia was when an Anti
Semitic group burned down his house, and he sat in front of his house all night watching it burn. In
circa 1883 his family moved to Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States of America via
Ellis Island. Everyone in his family regardless of age, except for practical reasons such as an infant,
had to work. Although his family was very poor, he did not seem to notice. His father was a very strict
Jew and would punish his children with beatings even for as simple of a reason as taking their shoes
off in an unorthodox way. He worked odd jobs until he was eight years of age, when his father died,
he became a street singer while doubling as

The Deep Horizon Oil Spill Was The Largest Environmental
The Deep Horizon oil spill was the largest environmental disaster the U.S. has ever faced. On April
20th, 2010, the Deep Horizon oil rig had exploded releasing over 134 million gallons of crude oil and
over four million pounds of gas into the Gulf of Mexico waters. The oil rig was owned and operated
by off shore oil drilling company called Tans ocean and subleased by a common oil company called
BP. The well was located on the sea floor which is 4,993 feet below the surface and it extended over
18,000 feet within the rocks. The explosion was caused by surges of natural gas that had blasted
through a concrete core within the Caspian Sea in September 2008. Even though this explosion was
two years before the Deep Horizon rig explosion, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within a book entitled, Conserving The Environment, it is stated that; Accidents involving oil tankers
and offshore drilling platforms destroy thousands of fish, birds, and marine mammals. (Woodward,

mammals are as well. The reason why the oil and gas is affecting the animals so badly is due to the
chemical dispersants within them which are known as Corexit 9500 and Corexit 9527. These were
applied to the oil at the surface to aid break up oil slicks as well as at the wellhead itself.. Stated within
an article entitled, Gulf Wildlife In the Aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon Disaster Five Years and

ecosystems will be harmed for not a short period of time but for years and years to come. When it is

ultimately how all of them put together as one were affected. A major fish that was affected due to the

largest fish in the Gulf of Mexico, due to it weighing at 550 pounds and being 6.5 feet long. A

The Negative Aspects Of School Integration
Throughout history school integration has been somewhat of a war, but why? Although school
integration should be something that is praised because of what it has done for children in the past,
many people and administrators do all in their power to prevent school integration. We claim as a
society that all children should have the same opportunities, but in many cases that is not an option
without school integration. In order to grow as a rising society, it is important for people to set aside
what their negative beliefs about school integration are if it means a better future for children who
otherwise would not have the chance to thrive as they should. B. The Problem We All Live With Part
One: A Sociological Analysis:
In part one of The Problem We All Live With, we are introduced to many incredible, unforgettable
facts about the American school district, facts that are very often overlooked in today s society. Nikole
Hannah Jones speaks out about her years reporting on the american education system and the different
problems she encountered while doing so. Nikole states that administrators have tried to close the
enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black and white students that
was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts were mostly black and latino,
these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not doing much to help the fact that
children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least experienced teachers, which was a
large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The Normandy school district in Missouri became
unaccredited because of how poor the quality of the education was. Because Normandy became an
unaccredited school, the transfer law came into effect. The transfer law is a law that gave students in
unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a nearby accredited schools for free
(Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). The transfer law gave students of Normandy the right to transfer to
Francis Howell, an accredited school on the other other side of town. Parents of Francis Howell were
not happy with the Normandy students transferring because they were convinced that this would lower
the quality of the Francis Howell

Water Is The Most Important Substances On Earth Essay
Introduction: Water is one of the most important substances on earth. Every single living organism on
earth requires water. Whether it is a clownfish living in the ocean or a big shady maple tree getting its
water from the earth, every organism needs it. Water is often times advertised as the most pure
substance on earth, however this is often times untrue. Yes, water is a very pure substance but only
when it is in its truly natural form, H2O. However, there are very few cases where water is in its truest
chemical composition. Water almost always has some sort of chemical deposits in it, which can be
measured in a hardness of the water.
The hardness of water is usually measured in parts per million (ppm) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
that is in a certain sample of water.1 In natural waters, the minerals that make up water aren t all in the
form of CaCO¬3. The actual minerals that make up the hardness of water are magnesium cation and
calcium cation, Mg2+ and Ca2+ respectively.1 Often times the calcium concentration is larger than
magnesium concentration. This is due to the fact that calcium is usually in almost all types of rocks
while magnesium is only found in a few for example, dolomite and olivine.1
These dissolved ions, Mg2+ and Ca2+, make up the main properties of water hardness. The hardness
of water is determined on scaling range dealing with the concentration of the ions. Water is said to be
hard if it contains a large concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+. On the

Industrialization Dbq Essay
During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution began to replace agriculture goods with those
of manufactured goods. With this revolution came the implementation of new technology, new social
classes, and social theories. In England, the Industrial Revolution had taken root much faster than
continental Europe, particularly in Manchester. A leading textile manufacturing center, Manchester
soon attained a mechanized cotton mill in 1780. With this increased capacity for workers, Manchester
s population increased quite significantly. The census of 1851 revealed there to be over 300,000
citizens were previously in 1750 there were 18,000 citizens. The increase in population mostly came
from immigrants and the working class. The rapid growth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manchester was overcrowded and cramped. Manchester grew rapidly from the 1750 s to the 1850 s
population and infrastructure wise. Manchester during the 1750 s was relatively small compared to the
size of the city during the 1850 s. The city had nearly quadrupled in size (Doc. 1). Assuming
Manchester circa 1750 could support 18,000 people comfortably but circa 1850 the city has to support
300,000 people without nearly enough space. This suggests the population per area density increased
substantially resulting in overcrowding. Robert Southey, an English Romantic poet describes
Manchester as a crowded city with buildings packed together. He also notes Manchester is the second
largest city in England both size and population wise (Doc. 2). This gives an account of how cramped
living conditions were in the cities from a person s perspective. Southey has a negative view of city
life and thus goes on to write about it in Colloquies on the Progress and Prospects of Society. This is
later refuted by Thomas B. Macaulay, a member of Parliament and historian. Macaulay states Southey
has an unrealistic view of the world where peasants frolick in the countryside without a care in the
world. Macaulay believes city life is better for people because they have food, shelter, and healthcare
(Doc. 3). Macaulay is a member of Parliament and as such he must come from a certain income group

Assessment Of An Best Assessment For Diane Essay
Assessment Plan
Assessment Question In order to provide the best assessment for Diane, we as a team need to focus on
our assessment question as follows: Who is Diane as a person, and what are her unmet needs in her
daily life, especially in regards to her current mode of communication and her interactions with
family/partners; additionally, are there any barriers currently halting progress? It is vital that Diane s
best interests are always on the foreground; her own priorities and her own desires will lead our
assessment into future interventions. We are able to take apart the above question in four steps in order
ascertain why this is a valid goal to attain for Diane.
First, it is important to assess Diane s overall unmet needs. In understanding one s unmet needs, we
are able to assist Diane in engaging in her own interactions and activities in her daily life (Beukelman
Mirenda, 2013, p. 8). Research has shown that children and young adults with cerebral palsy are at
risk for having a high amount of unmet needs, especially in relation to health care (Jackson,
Krishnaswami, McPheeters, 2011; Nieuwenhuijse et al., 2007). As health care professionals, we need
to be aware of Diane s unmet needs in order to identify her own personal goals and skills in order to
plan an accurate model of intervention.
Second, it is necessary to understand Diane s current mode of communication. Beukelman and
Mirenda (2013) remind that It is important to remember that everyone

Violent Media Is Good For Kids By Gerard Jones
The essay Violent Media is Good for Kids by Gerard Jones was published by the New York Times in
2000. Jones was a well known author both in fiction and nonfiction and mainly focused on comic
books. Jones argues that the violent behaviors depicted in comic books can be beneficial because they
can help children overcome their fears. Jones incorrectly assumes that all children are the same and
although a comic book may help one child, other children may become emotionally scarred by them.
Jones focuses on three stories involving himself, his son, and a young lady by the name of Emily. In
paragraph three, Jones tells us how his mother grew up in a violent era, not wanting her son to be
exposed to such conduct. Until one day a student of hers enlightened her on the benefits a comic book
can have on a child. The Hulk allowed for Jones to fantasize himself as being all powerful, fearless,
and confident in his own skin. Also in compassion to Jones, in paragraph six, Jones son had a similar
encounter but with the comic book Tarzan . Jones son was faced with the peer pressure of climbing a
tree that his friend previously climbed. With his son being fearful, Jones knew that by allowing his son
to become fixated on the comic of Tarzan would allow for him to put his fear of aside and climb the
tree . Lastly, Jones adds in paragraph twelve, the importance of Emily, a playground bully who with
the help of comic books could control her violent outbursts. Throughout Jones essay, he does a
diligent job of providing valid and reliable evidence, but in paragraph twelve and thirteen when he
tells the story of Emily is looked at as the turning point of his essay for most readers. Emily was
known at school for expressing violent behaviors and depiction violent scenes from comics and TV
shows. Most mothers would pull Emily s mother aside and express their concerns and worries for the
safety of the other kids who played around her. Emily s mother sought Jones help, fearful that her
child might not be able to differentiate between realities and play time. Jones background allowed for
him to channel Emily s anger by providing her with comics that were most relatable to the action
Emily imitated. Untimely, by Jones telling

Mao And Deng Xiaoping
Who had a greater influence on the development of China in the 20th century? To answer this
question, the successes of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping are to be analysed and compared to

Chinese, were both were leaders in socialism that carried out different movements to China, as well as
differences in contradictory aspects. Communist China began in 1949. Mao had introduced numerous
plans such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural revolution, however the accomplishments of
Deng were more significant to the advancement of China, because of Mao s failures.

Living Without Living
I thought this every hour of every day for a very long time: I want my mother. My mother is dead.
(Strayed). Cheryl Strayed was flooded with an overwhelming amount of grief when she lost her
mother to cancer. In her mind she was too young to die, which left Cheryl angry at her mother for
dying. She lived under the guidance of her mother all of her life, and suddenly it was gone. Many
people find themselves crying in bed for days or months, leaning on their family and friends, or
exercises more in order to find some outlet for their grief. However, Cheryl found the best coping
mechanism to be repeatedly committing adultery on her faithful husband Pete and becoming addicted
to heroin. Throughout her book, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Strayed
expresses remorse, but she does not write as though she is ashamed of her infidelity or drug addiction.
The lack of shame towards her errors is a weakness and reveals a serious flaw in Cheryl s character.
In order to accurately understand why the lack of shame is a character flaw and not a strength we need
to briefly look at the difference between shame and remorse. Shame causes an individual to feel not
only sorrow for their action, but also humilation. The embarrassment helps prevent a person from
repeating their mistakes. On the other hand, when someone experiences remorse they feel regret but
they do not feel embarrassed by their actions. Since their pride is not affected with humiliation, the
person is

The US and Brazil s Cotton Industry
Introduction
On September 2002, Brazil, major cotton export competitor, reached out to the World Trade
Organization to complain about the United States cotton subsidies. Brazil requested action against the
US by filing a WTO dispute settlement case. On 2009, the WTO authorized Brazil to increase import
duties on certain products imported from the US and to suspend sections of the TRIPS Agreement. To
avoid these sanctions, the US accepted to pay Brazil $147.3 million annually. Starting with a brief
introduction about agricultural subsidies and the cotton industry, in this paper I will discuss the issue
regarding Brazil s cotton industry, how the US and Brazil agreed to settle the dispute, who is impacted
by the cotton subsidies, and what the latest arrangement means to all countries affected.

Margery Kemp s Interactions with The Virgin Mary
According to her own testimony, Margery Kempe s spirituality involved deeply passionate
experiences of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Kempe had the gift of tears meaning that, for years, she
was unable to attend mass without crying profusely, and, as often as not, sobbing loudly and
theatrically. Her adventurous life included a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where much weeping and
wailing took place, and tanglings with several Bishops, including the Archbishop of Canterbury. In

who has been wearing white (virgin s clothing, suggesting a religious vow) is asked by this priest to

God tells her to. Then later on Margery has a literal marriage to God, followed by visions of angels,
divine smells and music, and a warmth in her breast which lasts, she tells us, 16 years. One result is
that she weeps when she sees a handsome man on the street, because it makes her think of Christ.
Later on she elaborates on the marriage with a strong suggestion of a sexual consummation. Here and
in the next chapter 37, there are more conversations with God and he promises to be closer to her. She
is also told to resume wearing white, which her confessor allows because he sees it s God s will and

Teotihuacan Textual Analysis
Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the
importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of
navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to reference.
Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a written record,
whether it be another culture s record or a written record that isn t inherently written . And when it
comes to examining the visual culture of Post Classic Mexico, both of these are the case. With Mixtec
and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced to consider colonial hybrid
documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of
Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this
deity s gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make
assumptions often relying on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity (Mandell,
29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell s article A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of the Great
Goddess of Teotihuacan from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great Goddess is
complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30). Because of
this, analysis of the deity s gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as clothing and
ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices or colonial
hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture. We cannot even
assume the deity s gender from Post classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted like the initial theory
that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post classic period we can look
at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual depiction of her image, we have
no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess. And while Mendell s argument for the
female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is forced to draw from a variety of complex
representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a
direct translation and association which inherently leaves room

The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social
ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British
Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature.
Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the
vampire and the New Woman can be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that defined
that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on the Endless

New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these literary characters
had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which is almost beyond
belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian
patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is
simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla
s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women.
Carmilla s execution is described as follows:
The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven
through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as
might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of
blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a pile of wood, and
reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since
been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Le Fanu 336)

The Accomplishments Of Julius Caesar
What was Julius and Augustus status as a soldier and their military accomplishments? How did they
obtained their titles as dictators and emperors? Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus were both great
military leaders, having many military accomplishments. Both worked hard to become the dictators
and emperors they were.
Julius Caesar started as a military tribune making ready to become a Consul. One of the world s most
vital military pioneers was regularly acquainted with a senatorial, patrician family and was the nephew
of another observed Roman general, Marius. Julius military accomplishments were that he was known
never to have lost ever a single war. These were extraordinary triumphs that legitimated the
consolidation the Gaul as part of the Roman Empire, increasing the geographical reaches of Rome to
the Atlantic Ocean. The Roman invasion of Britain in 55 B.C. was moreover one of the genuine
achievements of Julius Caesar
Augustus military accomplishments were that he was part of Caesar s military expedition to Spain to
destroy the offspring of Pompey, his vanquished foe. They were endeavoring to carry on their father s
rivalry with Caesar. Augustus was inspecting and engaging military planning in Apollonia, Illyria.
Rejecting the urging of some of his officers to take refuge with the troops in Macedonia, he traveled to
Italia to discover whether he had any potential political fortunes or security. Antony and Augustus then
sent 28 armed forces by means of sea to

Although New Century Financial business risks involved a great portion of internal mistakes, external
factors such as Federal Reserve s monetary policy played a significant role in deterioration of business
opportunities for the New Century Financial Corporation. The baseline interest rates were increased
sharply in 2006 from 1.5 % to more than 5 %. Although such a hike in the interest rates had been
forecasted and anticipated since2003, the New Century Financial did consider the flagship of
tightening monetary policy. The increase in interest rate affected New Century Financial in the way
that the company s assets became riskier and more prone to financial distress. Increased exposure of

Why Nations Fail By Daron Acemoglu And James Robinson
Why Nations Fail Book Report In Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson show that
economic development is about more than just economics. Through a wide variety of natural
experiments ranging from Latin America, to Sub Saharan Africa, to East Asia, they argue that it is
institutions, both political and economic, that differentiate a country s economic success. Specifically,
they separate institutions into inclusive and extractive. Inclusive political institutions engage the entire
population, while extractive political institutions are ruled by an elite minority. Similarly, inclusive
economic institutions promote property rights and competitive markets, while extractive economic
institutions create monopolies and funnel wealth to the elite minority. The novel part of their thesis is
the idea in order to have sustainable inclusive economic institutions, a country must first have
inclusive political institutions. It is only when a country has inclusive economic and political ... Show

Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson do an incredible job of simplifying a complicated topic for a
general audience. They address most major counterarguments and provide in depth and convincing
stories from history that support the importance of inclusive institutions. However, when you simplify
a topic, it is much more difficult to make rigorous arguments. Additionally, Acemoglu and Robinson s
framework for analyzing development fails to account for India and China. Therefore, it was
successful in analyzing past economic development, but largely fails to predict future development.
Nevertheless, it is indisputable that inclusive institutions are much more beneficial for an entire
population than extractive institutions. Researchers and advocates just need to remember to look at the
entire economic picture of a country, instead of only one indicator when making decisions about

Differences between Protein Shake and Protein Steak
From the moment of its creation, protein powder has been engulfed in a tornado of controversy.
Doctors, scientists, and athletes have debated on whether or not it should be used for years. Protein
provides the building blocks for all cells and membranes, hormones and various growth factors. Elena
Voropay, a writer for Iron Man Magazine, says Protein is found literally everywhere in your system:
there is protein in your muscle tissues, your heart, in the enzymes that digest your food, in your skin
cells and even within your blood (Voropay 1).

The best selling protein shakes are all based on milk proteins. Protein in its powdered form is also
much lighter than a full meal. This comes into play when the protein shake is taken as a pre workout.
In that case, it is much better to eat a lighter shake before a HIT or high intensity training regimen,
otherwise the contents of your meal may end up on the gym floor instead of being absorbed for
nutrients.
It is important to choose a good, healthy protein powder because many companies aren t honest with
their product labels since their products aren t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.
Nutrilite, a company who specializes in supplements and nutrition, is a company that is totally honest
about their labels. Nutrilite created the first multi vitamin well over fifty years ago. Their products are
pure and because they are organic, are considered whole food. This means that they are regulated by
the Food and Drug Administration. Also, they are the only one endorsed by the National Collegiate
Athlete Association (NCAA).
Some negatives when looking at powdered Protein products are that first and foremost, they lack the
supplemental nutrients that whole foods have to offer. For example, beef is high in iron, while salmon
is loaded with healthy fats. Yogurt provides calcium, and whole wheat supplies B vitamins. Dr.

Sba 7a Loan
SBA loan programs have been around for a long time. Long ago, the government realized that the key
to a strong economy and a strong nation was to nurture small businesses with affordable capital
options that will help them grow bigger and support more jobs and a larger tax base. Thus the Small
Business Administration was tasked with providing this capital.
A key point to remember is that the SBA does not actually provide the funds. The funds are actually
provided by participating commercial banks and the loans are guaranteed by the SBA against loss. In
order to have this government guarantee, the banks lending the money must conform to SBA
mandated guidelines that determine which applicants receive the loan and which do not.

Why Is Calculator Is Not Appropriate In The Classroom
Math Research Paper
Since the 1980 s calculator use in the classroom has been a huge controversy between educators
(Golden, 2000). It is becoming increasingly common to use calculators in the classroom on a regular
basis. Some states allow students to use calculators on standardized tests and as part of the regular
curriculum (Dion, 2001). Because we live in such a technologically changing world, hand held
calculators have been far surpassed and can be purchased for as low as $4.00 each. This low price
however, has not swayed the many people that believe calculators are not appropriate in the
classroom.
These critics argue that calculators take away student s basic knowledge of mathematics, prevent
children from truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This evidence alone is enough proof, for some, that calculator use takes away basic skills and when
given a test where these skills come into play, children do not perform well. It is believed that the
difference in calculator use based on race and wealth may reinforce inequality in scholastic
achievement, rather than narrow them (Golden, 2000). Because calculators are so cheap, in
comparison with computers, most schools can afford to provide them for each student, therefore, this
is the only technology readily available to low income schools and calculators are often overused
(Golden, 2000). In addition, another concern with calculators is that many children feel they are
cheating, taking the easy way out, or taking and illegal shortcut by using a calculator. They think they
are skipping out on the work and by doing so are being immoral (Dresdeck, 1999).
On the contrary, advocates of calculator use in the classroom claim that calculators allow students to
spend less time on tedious calculations and more time on understanding and solving problems, help
students develop better number sense, allow students to study math concepts that they could otherwise
not have time to perform without calculators, allow students who are normally turned off to math

Louis Riel Summary
The second part of the comic strip biography Louis Riel by Chester Brown, starts off in early
September 1870 in St. Joseph, Dakota territory. Louis Riel is reading a note which talks about how the
Canadian soldiers have wreaked havoc on the Red River Colony. It talks about how some Métis men
had been murdered and quite a few were beaten. Women had also been raped in the settlement too.
The Canadian soldiers have brought a reign of fear to the Red River settlement. This is an excerpt
from the note Louis Riel was reading. Also, Schultz returned and was basically running things. The
comic strip biography then fasts forwards to the summer of 1871. Louis Riel is reading another note
now. This one is talking about how the land the people of the settlement had been promised by the
Canadian government was being given to people from Eastern Canada. The exceptional rich farmland
was being given to the British farmers and the requests for land were being delayed. After this Riel
goes to his mother s house in the settlement and finds that many of the soldiers have went home. His
mother though, warns him to lay low. The story then shifts and fast forwards to Ottawa in the
December of 1871, about five to seven months later. Father Ritchot has arranged a meeting with John
Alexander Macdonald to discuss amnesty for Louis Riel s crimes. Father Ritchot immediately
confronts John Alexander Macdonald, demanding to know why the amnesty was not granted. John
Alexander Macdonald responds by

My Favorite Christmas Season
Are you serious Clark ? Is one of the famous sayings you ll hear my dad quoting throughout the
Christmas season. Christmas is my absolute favorite season, and I do quite know the reason.
Christmas was always filled with a lot of joyous experiences; my entire family always became so
happy immediately after the Thanksgiving Holiday ended. My dad probably influenced me the most
when it comes to Christmas; because the Christmas season was the only time his dysfunctional family
unified.
My favorite part about Christmas was all of the traditions my family had. The first one was watching
the movie National Lampoon s Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving night while starting to decorate
the house for Christmas. My family and I never wasted any time on getting into the Christmas Spirit,
but it really has never taken much for us to get into it. Usually, within the next day or two, we would
go out in our front wheel drive sleigh and find that one perfect Christmas tree that was a little full and
had a lotta sap . Every year my dad would cut it down with the same dull saw that he said the previous
year he was going to replace and it was always quite comical watching him cut the tree down;
sometimes I thought it would have been faster if he just dug it out of the ground with his bare hands. If
you have watched Christmas

My Reflection Of My Experience In The Courtroom
For me, attending the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse was the first experience I ve had in a physical
court room. From the moment I arrived, I felt fairly overwhelmed with so many court rooms and cases
being heard that day. I decided to go to the fifth floor, where felony cases were being heard, and I
thought it would be fairly exciting getting to hear felony cases compared to misdemeanors. My
expectations before going were mostly based on shows such as Law and Order, in which the whole
hour is spent hearing one specific case. But in reality, the proceedings were far different from what I
expected. When I arrived in the court room, the case of People v. Larry Sanchez was being discussed.
Mr. Sanchez, was not only in handcuffs, but also wearing a correctional facilities green jumpsuit.
Those simple facts led me to expect a lot of action, but after a few minutes I noticed that it was simply
an arraignment in which the judge accepted the defendant s petition for plea bargain. I thought it was
very interesting observing the side of the defendant, since the defense attorneys were public defenders.
Seeing them have a different client every few minutes and having to know everything about their
respective cases was very impressive. Meanwhile, representing the people on the side of the
prosecution for every case were two attorneys. Neither of the attorneys seemed to do much beside
state the facts of each case against the defendants. The judge seemed to do a very good job and one

With the help of case studies of Siemens Electric Motor Works, John Deere Component Works, and
Schrader Bellows, Cooper (1989) demonstrated that the management objectives and diversity of
product mix determine the extent of the complexity in the design of activity based cost management
systems. The competitive environment in which the firm is operating, drives the need for activity
based costing.
A well designed integrated cost management system will help the management of the company to
identify opportunities for continuous improvement and point out unused capacity or capacity
constraints, if any, and will facilitate the introduction of activity based budgeting in the organization.
The activity based budgeting mindset makes all cost variable and attempts to match resource supply
with resource demand.
Activity based costing Activity Based Costing (ABC) is a two stage product costing method that
assigns costs first to activities and then to the products based on each product s use of activities. , ABC
systems first accumulate overhead costs for each organizational activity, and then assign the costs of
the activities to the products, services, or customers (cost objects) causing that activity. Activity
analysis is the processes of identifying appropriate output measures of activities and resources (cost
drivers) and their effects on the costs of making a product or providing a service.

Limitations Of Modulation In Isi
Due to the spectacular growth of the wireless services and demands during the last years, the need of a
modulation technique that could transmit high data rates at high bandwidth efficiency strongly
imposed. The problem of the inter symbol interference (ISI) introduced by the frequency selectivity of
the channel became even more imperative once the desired transmission rates dramatically grew up.
Using adaptive equalization techniques at the receiver in order to combat the ISI effects could be the
solution, but there are practical difficulties in operating this equalization in real time conditions at
several Mb/s with compact, low cost hardware. ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION
MULTIPLEXING is a promising candidate that eliminates the need ... Show more content on

Slow data rate (and long symbol duration) on each subchannel merely means that the effects of ISI are
severely reduced. This is in fact the basic idea that lies behind ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY
DIVISION MULTIPLEXING . Transmitting the data among a large number of closely spaced
subcarriers accounts for the frequency division multiplexing part of the name. Unlike the classical
frequency division multiplexing technique, ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION
MULTIPLEXING will provide much higher bandwidth efficiency. This is due to the fact that in
ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING the spectra of individual subcarriers
are allowed to overlap. In fact, the carriers are carefully chosen to be orthogonal one another. As it is
well known, the orthogonal signals do not interfere, and they can be separated at the receiver by
correlation techniques. The orthogonality of the subcarriers accounts for the first part of the
ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING name. In a mobile radio environment,
the signal is carried by a large number of paths with different strength and delays. Such multipath
dispersion of the signal is commonly referred as channel induced ISI and yields the same kind of ISI
distortion caused by an electronic filter [2]. In fact, the multipath dispersion leads to an upper
limitation of the transmission rate in order to avoid the frequency selectivity of the channel or the need
of a complex adaptive equalization in the receiver. In

  • 2. Why Gay Men and Straight Women Have Such Close Relationships In a society where homosexuality is an ever growing topic, one might wonder why gay men tend to have the closest relationships with straight women. Ellen DeGeneres once said, every straight woman has a gay best friend by their side. Why is this? I decided to read and write about an experiment that was done to answer the question of why gay men and straight women have such close relationships. The article s title is, Friend with Benefits, but Without the Sex: Straight Women and Gay men Exchange Trustworthy Mating Advice. Previous research has been done on this topic and found that women tend to enjoy a gay man s companionship because there is not sexual strings attached and bias advice. Gay men find straight women to be extremely trustworthy. Prior research not only compared homosexual males vs. straight women, but homosexual males vs. homosexual males relationships and the same with women. For the current research in this article, researchers hypothesized that the trustworthiness and honesty that often characterizes gay male straight female friendships may be rooted in mating relevant domains. Basically, with the absence of deceptive mating motivations, one is able to fully feel comfortable and honest within the friendship and not have to worry that they are being hit on. This experiment was done in two parts. The first experiment was known as straight women s perceptions, and the second experiment was known as gay men s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled. There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or aluminum can. Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to can or bottle beer. There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers tend to think canned beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however, have put that stigma to rest by lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore, beer has many enemies, which impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen and sunlight. Bottles tend to be expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the top, oxygenation will occur and ruin a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while oxygen will quickly make a beer stale. Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra packaging, which need to be disposed thus making them a not very environmentally friendly product and also makes it more expensive to produce. GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed to bottles when bottling beer are numerous: Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale Sunlight cannot get through aluminum Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings Bottling decisions are a ... After his background information is provided, the prior sentence will be proven by using examples of the songs he made as a freelance songwriter, a songwriter for Broadway musical productions , and Hollywood Musical productions, the popularity of the songs, and the awards. Israel Berlin who we now know as Irving Berlin, was born May 11th, Eighteen 1888, in the town of Tyumen, a Siberian city in Russia. He was the one out of eight children. His father, Moses Baline, was a Cantor in the Jewish Synagogue, and his mother was Lena Lipkin Baline During the time he lived in Russia, he and his family were treated terribly, for the fact that Russia was at that time attacking the Jews and the Jewish community. The only thing he remembered about Russia was when an Anti Semitic group burned down his house, and he sat in front of his house all night watching it burn. In circa 1883 his family moved to Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States of America via Ellis Island. Everyone in his family regardless of age, except for practical reasons such as an infant, had to work. Although his family was very poor, he did not seem to notice. His father was a very strict Jew and would punish his children with beatings even for as simple of a reason as taking their shoes off in an unorthodox way. He worked odd jobs until he was eight years of age, when his father died, he became a street singer while doubling as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On April 20th, 2010, the Deep Horizon oil rig had exploded releasing over 134 million gallons of crude oil and over four million pounds of gas into the Gulf of Mexico waters. The oil rig was owned and operated by off shore oil drilling company called Tans ocean and subleased by a common oil company called BP. The well was located on the sea floor which is 4,993 feet below the surface and it extended over 18,000 feet within the rocks. (Woodward, 22) As a consequence, not only are just the fish affected due to the oil and gases but sea birds and mammals are as well. The reason why the oil and gas is affecting the animals so badly is due to the chemical dispersants within them which are known as Corexit 9500 and Corexit 9527. These were applied to the oil at the surface to aid break up oil slicks as well as at the wellhead itself.. • 7. The Negative Aspects Of School Integration Throughout history school integration has been somewhat of a war, but why? Although school integration should be something that is praised because of what it has done for children in the past, many people and administrators do all in their power to prevent school integration. We claim as a society that all children should have the same opportunities, but in many cases that is not an option without school integration. In order to grow as a rising society, it is important for people to set aside what their negative beliefs about school integration are if it means a better future for children who otherwise would not have the chance to thrive as they should. B. The Problem We All Live With Part One: A Sociological Analysis: In part one of The Problem We All Live With, we are introduced to many incredible, unforgettable facts about the American school district, facts that are very often overlooked in today s society. Nikole Hannah Jones speaks out about her years reporting on the american education system and the different problems she encountered while doing so. Nikole states that administrators have tried to close the enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black and white students that was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts were mostly black and latino, these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not doing much to help the fact that children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least experienced teachers, which was a large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The Normandy school district in Missouri became unaccredited because of how poor the quality of the education was. Because Normandy became an unaccredited school, the transfer law came into effect. The transfer law is a law that gave students in unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a nearby accredited schools for free (Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). The transfer law gave students of Normandy the right to transfer to Francis Howell, an accredited school on the other other side of town. Parents of Francis Howell were not happy with the Normandy students transferring because they were convinced that this would lower the quality of the Francis Howell ... • 8. Water Is The Most Important Substances On Earth Essay Introduction: Water is one of the most important substances on earth. Every single living organism on earth requires water. Whether it is a clownfish living in the ocean or a big shady maple tree getting its water from the earth, every organism needs it. Water is often times advertised as the most pure substance on earth, however this is often times untrue. Yes, water is a very pure substance but only when it is in its truly natural form, H2O. However, there are very few cases where water is in its truest chemical composition. Water almost always has some sort of chemical deposits in it, which can be measured in a hardness of the water. The hardness of water is usually measured in parts per million (ppm) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) that is in a certain sample of water.1 In natural waters, the minerals that make up water aren t all in the form of CaCO¬3. The actual minerals that make up the hardness of water are magnesium cation and calcium cation, Mg2+ and Ca2+ respectively.1 Often times the calcium concentration is larger than magnesium concentration. This is due to the fact that calcium is usually in almost all types of rocks while magnesium is only found in a few for example, dolomite and olivine.1 These dissolved ions, Mg2+ and Ca2+, make up the main properties of water hardness. The hardness of water is determined on scaling range dealing with the concentration of the ions. Water is said to be hard if it contains a large concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+. On the ... • 9. Industrialization Dbq Essay During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution began to replace agriculture goods with those of manufactured goods. With this revolution came the implementation of new technology, new social classes, and social theories. In England, the Industrial Revolution had taken root much faster than continental Europe, particularly in Manchester. A leading textile manufacturing center, Manchester soon attained a mechanized cotton mill in 1780. With this increased capacity for workers, Manchester s population increased quite significantly. The census of 1851 revealed there to be over 300,000 citizens were previously in 1750 there were 18,000 citizens. The increase in population mostly came from immigrants and the working class. The rapid growth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manchester was overcrowded and cramped. Manchester grew rapidly from the 1750 s to the 1850 s population and infrastructure wise. Manchester during the 1750 s was relatively small compared to the size of the city during the 1850 s. The city had nearly quadrupled in size (Doc. 1). Assuming Manchester circa 1750 could support 18,000 people comfortably but circa 1850 the city has to support 300,000 people without nearly enough space. This suggests the population per area density increased substantially resulting in overcrowding. Robert Southey, an English Romantic poet describes Manchester as a crowded city with buildings packed together. He also notes Manchester is the second largest city in England both size and population wise (Doc. 2). This gives an account of how cramped living conditions were in the cities from a person s perspective. Southey has a negative view of city life and thus goes on to write about it in Colloquies on the Progress and Prospects of Society. This is later refuted by Thomas B. Macaulay, a member of Parliament and historian. Macaulay states Southey has an unrealistic view of the world where peasants frolick in the countryside without a care in the world. Macaulay believes city life is better for people because they have food, shelter, and healthcare (Doc. 3). • 11. Assessment Of An Best Assessment For Diane Essay Assessment Plan Assessment Question In order to provide the best assessment for Diane, we as a team need to focus on our assessment question as follows: Who is Diane as a person, and what are her unmet needs in her daily life, especially in regards to her current mode of communication and her interactions with family/partners; additionally, are there any barriers currently halting progress? It is vital that Diane s best interests are always on the foreground; her own priorities and her own desires will lead our assessment into future interventions. We are able to take apart the above question in four steps in order ascertain why this is a valid goal to attain for Diane. First, it is important to assess Diane s overall unmet needs. In understanding one s unmet needs, we are able to assist Diane in engaging in her own interactions and activities in her daily life (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 8). Research has shown that children and young adults with cerebral palsy are at risk for having a high amount of unmet needs, especially in relation to health care (Jackson, Krishnaswami, McPheeters, 2011; Nieuwenhuijse et al., 2007). As health care professionals, we need to be aware of Diane s unmet needs in order to identify her own personal goals and skills in order to plan an accurate model of intervention. Second, it is necessary to understand Diane s current mode of communication. Beukelman and Mirenda (2013) remind that It is important to remember that everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Violent Media Is Good For Kids By Gerard Jones The essay Violent Media is Good for Kids by Gerard Jones was published by the New York Times in 2000. Jones was a well known author both in fiction and nonfiction and mainly focused on comic books. Jones argues that the violent behaviors depicted in comic books can be beneficial because they can help children overcome their fears. Jones incorrectly assumes that all children are the same and although a comic book may help one child, other children may become emotionally scarred by them. Jones focuses on three stories involving himself, his son, and a young lady by the name of Emily. In paragraph three, Jones tells us how his mother grew up in a violent era, not wanting her son to be exposed to such conduct. Until one day a student of hers enlightened her on the benefits a comic book can have on a child. The Hulk allowed for Jones to fantasize himself as being all powerful, fearless, and confident in his own skin. Also in compassion to Jones, in paragraph six, Jones son had a similar encounter but with the comic book Tarzan . Jones son was faced with the peer pressure of climbing a tree that his friend previously climbed. With his son being fearful, Jones knew that by allowing his son to become fixated on the comic of Tarzan would allow for him to put his fear of aside and climb the tree . Lastly, Jones adds in paragraph twelve, the importance of Emily, a playground bully who with the help of comic books could control her violent outbursts. Throughout Jones essay, he does a diligent job of providing valid and reliable evidence, but in paragraph twelve and thirteen when he tells the story of Emily is looked at as the turning point of his essay for most readers. Emily was known at school for expressing violent behaviors and depiction violent scenes from comics and TV shows. Most mothers would pull Emily s mother aside and express their concerns and worries for the safety of the other kids who played around her. Emily s mother sought Jones help, fearful that her child might not be able to differentiate between realities and play time. Jones background allowed for him to channel Emily s anger by providing her with comics that were most relatable to the action Emily imitated. Untimely, by Jones telling ... • 14. Living Without Living I thought this every hour of every day for a very long time: I want my mother. My mother is dead. (Strayed). Cheryl Strayed was flooded with an overwhelming amount of grief when she lost her mother to cancer. In her mind she was too young to die, which left Cheryl angry at her mother for dying. She lived under the guidance of her mother all of her life, and suddenly it was gone. Many people find themselves crying in bed for days or months, leaning on their family and friends, or exercises more in order to find some outlet for their grief. However, Cheryl found the best coping mechanism to be repeatedly committing adultery on her faithful husband Pete and becoming addicted to heroin. Throughout her book, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Strayed expresses remorse, but she does not write as though she is ashamed of her infidelity or drug addiction. The lack of shame towards her errors is a weakness and reveals a serious flaw in Cheryl s character. In order to accurately understand why the lack of shame is a character flaw and not a strength we need to briefly look at the difference between shame and remorse. Shame causes an individual to feel not only sorrow for their action, but also humilation. The embarrassment helps prevent a person from repeating their mistakes. On the other hand, when someone experiences remorse they feel regret but they do not feel embarrassed by their actions. Since their pride is not affected with humiliation, the person is ... Margery Kemp s Interactions with The Virgin Mary Essay Margery Kemp s Interactions with The Virgin Mary According to her own testimony, Margery Kempe s spirituality involved deeply passionate experiences of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Kempe had the gift of tears meaning that, for years, she was unable to attend mass without crying profusely, and, as often as not, sobbing loudly and theatrically. Her adventurous life included a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where much weeping and wailing took place, and tanglings with several Bishops, including the Archbishop of Canterbury. Margery, who has been wearing white (virgin s clothing, suggesting a religious vow) is asked by this priest to leave off wearing it, and she obeys. He also sends her to be servant to a poor woman, as a form of penance, though I m not sure what for. Although she starts to wear white again in chapter 37 because God tells her to. Then later on Margery has a literal marriage to God, followed by visions of angels, divine smells and music, and a warmth in her breast which lasts, she tells us, 16 years. One result is that she weeps when she sees a handsome man on the street, because it makes her think of Christ. Later on she elaborates on the marriage with a strong suggestion of a sexual consummation. Here and in the next chapter 37, there are more conversations with God and he promises to be closer to her. She is also told to resume wearing white, which her confessor allows because he sees it s God s will and doesn t dare object. Then God has her give away all her money, so that she must live on charity. She doesn t like this at all, but God reassures her with people who give her charity and help. • 18. Teotihuacan Textual Analysis Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to reference. Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a written record, whether it be another culture s record or a written record that isn t inherently written . And when it comes to examining the visual culture of Post Classic Mexico, both of these are the case. With Mixtec and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced to consider colonial hybrid documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this deity s gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make assumptions often relying on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity (Mandell, 29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell s article A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great Goddess is complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30). Because of this, analysis of the deity s gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as clothing and ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices or colonial hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture. We cannot even assume the deity s gender from Post classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted like the initial theory that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post classic period we can look at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual depiction of her image, we have no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess. And while Mendell s argument for the female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is forced to draw from a variety of complex representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a direct translation and association which inherently leaves room ... The New Woman in Fanu s Carmilla, Stoker s Dracula, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature. Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the vampire and the New Woman can be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that defined that socially complex era. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian society, New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these literary characters had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which is almost beyond belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows: The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus were both great military leaders, having many military accomplishments. Both worked hard to become the dictators and emperors they were. Julius Caesar started as a military tribune making ready to become a Consul. One of the world s most vital military pioneers was regularly acquainted with a senatorial, patrician family and was the nephew of another observed Roman general, Marius. Through a wide variety of natural experiments ranging from Latin America, to Sub Saharan Africa, to East Asia, they argue that it is institutions, both political and economic, that differentiate a country s economic success. Specifically, they separate institutions into inclusive and extractive. Inclusive political institutions engage the entire population, while extractive political institutions are ruled by an elite minority. Similarly, inclusive economic institutions promote property rights and competitive markets, while extractive economic institutions create monopolies and funnel wealth to the elite minority. It is becoming increasingly common to use calculators in the classroom on a regular basis. Because we live in such a technologically changing world, hand held calculators have been far surpassed and can be purchased for as low as $4.00 each. This evidence alone is enough proof, for some, that calculator use takes away basic skills and when given a test where these skills come into play, children do not perform well. It is believed that the difference in calculator use based on race and wealth may reinforce inequality in scholastic achievement, rather than narrow them (Golden, 2000). Because calculators are so cheap, in comparison with computers, most schools can afford to provide them for each student, therefore, this is the only technology readily available to low income schools and calculators are often overused (Golden, 2000). In addition, another concern with calculators is that many children feel they are cheating, taking the easy way out, or taking and illegal shortcut by using a calculator. They think they are skipping out on the work and by doing so are being immoral (Dresdeck, 1999). On the contrary, advocates of calculator use in the classroom claim that calculators allow students to spend less time on tedious calculations and more time on understanding and solving problems, help students develop better number sense, allow students to study math concepts that they could otherwise not have time to perform without calculators, allow students who are normally turned off to math increase ... Louis Riel is reading a note which talks about how the Canadian soldiers have wreaked havoc on the Red River Colony. It talks about how some Métis men had been murdered and quite a few were beaten. Women had also been raped in the settlement too. The Canadian soldiers have brought a reign of fear to the Red River settlement. This is an excerpt from the note Louis Riel was reading. This one is talking about how the land the people of the settlement had been promised by the Canadian government was being given to people from Eastern Canada. The exceptional rich farmland was being given to the British farmers and the requests for land were being delayed. After this Riel goes to his mother s house in the settlement and finds that many of the soldiers have went home. His mother though, warns him to lay low. Jimmy Valentine was dedicated to living a moral life because he got a new job, he tried to detach himself from his past, and his actions towards others changed. The first step of becoming Ralph Spencer was a new job. This meant kicking the old habits that came with this previous job. He hadn t done anything illegal in a year. His most well known crime was cracking safes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Multiple times throughout the story it was mentioned that jimmy carried his briefcase everywhere. His briefcase contained an expensive set of tools that he used for cracking safes. He may of keeped his tools for because he still used them, bet he could have well carried them because he was afraid of them being stolen and him losing the money spent in them or so his future wife wouldn t accidentally open it and find out something she wasn t supposed to know. Not only did he carry his briefcase every where, but he remembered how to do everything. He opened up the safe quickly with no problem at all. If anything, this ended up benefiting everyone. Who knows what could ve happened had Jimmy not been able to open the safe. He will also carry his gigantic criminal record with him forever. It s true that you can t erase something off your permanent record. What you can do is try to change your image and not get in trouble anymore. While some may attempt to make the argument that Jimmy did not attempt to live a moral life, it is clear that this is not true for many reasons. Jimmy Valentine lived a moral life by getting a new job, he separated himself from his past, and he got a better attitude. Jimmy Valentine had a successful attempt to create a new life. It takes a lot of dedication to start completely over, and Jimmy had what it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. My Reflection Of My Experience In The Courtroom For me, attending the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse was the first experience I ve had in a physical court room. From the moment I arrived, I felt fairly overwhelmed with so many court rooms and cases being heard that day. I decided to go to the fifth floor, where felony cases were being heard, and I thought it would be fairly exciting getting to hear felony cases compared to misdemeanors. My expectations before going were mostly based on shows such as Law and Order, in which the whole hour is spent hearing one specific case. But in reality, the proceedings were far different from what I expected. When I arrived in the court room, the case of People v. Larry Sanchez was being discussed. Mr. Sanchez, was not only in handcuffs, but also wearing a correctional facilities green jumpsuit. Those simple facts led me to expect a lot of action, but after a few minutes I noticed that it was simply an arraignment in which the judge accepted the defendant s petition for plea bargain. I thought it was very interesting observing the side of the defendant, since the defense attorneys were public defenders. Seeing them have a different client every few minutes and having to know everything about their respective cases was very impressive. Meanwhile, representing the people on the side of the prosecution for every case were two attorneys. Neither of the attorneys seemed to do much beside state the facts of each case against the defendants. The judge seemed to do a very good job and one quote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the help of case studies of Siemens Electric Motor Works, John Deere Component Works, and Schrader Bellows, Cooper (1989) demonstrated that the management objectives and diversity of product mix determine the extent of the complexity in the design of activity based cost management systems. The competitive environment in which the firm is operating, drives the need for activity based costing. A well designed integrated cost management system will help the management of the company to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and point out unused capacity or capacity constraints, if any, and will facilitate the introduction of activity based budgeting in the organization. The activity based budgeting mindset makes all cost variable and attempts to match resource supply with resource demand. Activity based costing Activity Based Costing (ABC) is a two stage product costing method that assigns costs first to activities and then to the products based on each product s use of activities. , ABC systems first accumulate overhead costs for each organizational activity, and then assign the costs of the activities to the products, services, or customers (cost objects) causing that activity. Activity analysis is the processes of identifying appropriate output measures of activities and resources (cost drivers) and their effects on the costs of making a product or providing a service. In this way an

  • 37. Limitations Of Modulation In Isi Due to the spectacular growth of the wireless services and demands during the last years, the need of a modulation technique that could transmit high data rates at high bandwidth efficiency strongly imposed. The problem of the inter symbol interference (ISI) introduced by the frequency selectivity of the channel became even more imperative once the desired transmission rates dramatically grew up. Using adaptive equalization techniques at the receiver in order to combat the ISI effects could be the solution, but there are practical difficulties in operating this equalization in real time conditions at several Mb/s with compact, low cost hardware. ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING is a promising candidate that eliminates the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slow data rate (and long symbol duration) on each subchannel merely means that the effects of ISI are severely reduced. This is in fact the basic idea that lies behind ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING . Transmitting the data among a large number of closely spaced subcarriers accounts for the frequency division multiplexing part of the name. Unlike the classical frequency division multiplexing technique, ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING will provide much higher bandwidth efficiency. This is due to the fact that in ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING the spectra of individual subcarriers are allowed to overlap. In fact, the carriers are carefully chosen to be orthogonal one another. As it is well known, the orthogonal signals do not interfere, and they can be separated at the receiver by correlation techniques. The orthogonality of the subcarriers accounts for the first part of the ORTHOGONAL FREQUANCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING name. In a mobile radio environment, the signal is carried by a large number of paths with different strength and delays. Such multipath dispersion of the signal is commonly referred as channel induced ISI and yields the same kind of ISI distortion caused by an electronic filter [2]. In fact, the multipath dispersion leads to an upper limitation of the transmission rate in order to avoid the frequency selectivity of the channel or the need of a complex adaptive equalization in the receiver.
