2. The Effect Of Sarbanes Oxley On Accounting Essay
Abstract
The Effects of Sarbanes Oxley on Accounting
Introduction
The law of Sarbanes Oxley has changed the business history since twenty ears ago. When is came out,
there is a new regulation for the company and get huge effects to the business. Before 2002, the U.S
markets have suffered many financial scandals. Frauds of these enterprises not only cheated
customers, but also took a heavy toll themselves. These behaviors seriously damaged the capital
market order and negatively affected American s economy at that time. Therefore, to protect investors
by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate , and to restore public confidence in financial
statement , Sarbanes Oxley Act was passed in 2002 for all U.S. public company boards, management
and public accounting firms. After Sarbanes Oxley law came out, the effects on the whole business
market has changed a lot. Also, the law took a big challenge on the governance, tax, implementation
and accounting profession.
Problem before Sarbanes Oxley
The financial report during the late 1990s and early 2000s had less public confidence in the auditor s
performance. The first issues are on the rise of non audit, consulting and service. At that time, clients
were paying their auditors more for consulting not for the financial statement audit. For the result, the
company seek for the lower margin audit as a foot in the door to more lucrative consulting
engagements. The later issue is about the downward

3. Science Teachers and Professors Should Not Teach Creationism
Where do we come from? How did this world, this universe originate? Questions that philosophers
probably first of all, and successively scientists, dogmatists, little children, and imaginably almost the
whole population of the Earth have at least once asked themselves and tried to answer, sometimes
with convincing or satisfactory results, but presumably more frequently with no different outcome
than numerous new interrogations. However, today we do have several answers, different according to
areas of the world, distinct cultures and various religions, and each individual can choose what to
believe; so the actual question, which remains unsolved, is the following: what should public schools
teach to their students? The answer to this query ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
America is not a theocracy; indeed, the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution grants the freedom
of religion and states that the clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect a
wall of separation between church and State (Establishment Clause). Since public schools are in fact
public institutions, related undeniably to the states, it would be illegal and unconstitutional to have
them not distinctly separated from any church. Different would be, obviously, talking about private
religious schools; those are in fact called independent schools or, more commonly, nonstate schools
which means, literally, not administered by any government, local, state or national. According to the
Council for American Private Education (CAPE), even if the percentage of students attending Catholic
schools has declined since 1995, it still reaches 12 %, which is an extremely high number; while
among the top five reasons for parents to home school their children with a 36 % agreement, as
reported by the National Center for Education Statistics appears a desire to provide religious
instruction. This statement confirms that if parents do want their sons and daughters to learn about
religion in a scholastic context, the only way to achieve

Political and legal factors are those controlled by ‘governments, local authorities, or other trade or
activity orientated regulatory bodies (Brassington and Pettitt, 2000). Gambling legislation is put in
place in order to prevent consumers been taken advantage and also help control consumers with
gambling problems. The internet is open to great abuse in all areas of the internet and gambling is no
exception. Within five minutes it is possible to be gambling on the internet at as high stakes as one
desires, this obviously has its dangers. Companies have recently been pushed to be more responsible
for caring for their customers. Some of the companies now have a system which its customers can use.
The system offers the customer control of how much they can deposit in a designated time period, this
helps the customers control their spending. Though this may affect profits for a company, it gives the
impression that they care for their customers, which promotes their company. The laws for online
gambling are reasonably relaxed and with it been a worldwide market that anyone from any country
can access it is hard to control such a market. There have been recent worries about illegal gambling
carried out on Betfair with trainers and owners regarding the running of a horse to lose. Many bets
would be taken on the specific horse resulting
6. Climate Change And Climate Change
Our world is in constant demand for more food production and space because of exponential
population growth. Factors like, globalization and urbanization can be contributed to such changes.
However, climate change is one of the unpleasant surprise that can be credited to the degraded acts
towards the environment due to deforestation, burning of fossils and fuels, industrialization and many
more. Vector borne diseases, are one of the most known diseases that can be credited to climate
change.
Change in the environmental patterns introduce human diseases that could have not been a problem
before. For example, malaria is one of the vector borne disease which is sensitive to long term climate
change. The studies have also found that Malaria migrates towards higher altitude when there is a rise
in the temperature. The study, published in the journal Science, studied malaria cases in the region of
western Colombia from 1990 to 2005 and central Ethiopia from 1993 to 2005. The researchers were
able to match the several malaria outbreaks that occurred in high altitudes with the temperature
records of these regions to show the rise and fall pattern of the disease with warmer or cooler years.
This is very threatening because now, millions of people who live in historically malaria free regions
of the high altitude tropics are at risk. If we look at the study between climate change and malaria, the
link between malaria and climatic events has long been studied in India, for example,

9. Why Is Henrietta Lacks Unethical
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a novel written by Rabecca Skloot that outlines the life and
story of a woman named Henrietta Lacks and her families struggle to discover the truth. Henrietta
Lacks was and African American women who was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of thirty.
A doctor at John Hopkins Hospital examined Henrietta and a biopsy of the cancerous tissue was
retrieved. Henrietta received treatment for her cancer, but the cancer was too aggressive and she soon
passed away at age of thirty one, but her cells continue to live today. Henrietta Lack s cells were
unlike any other humans cells ever examined. The cells were able to grow, multiply, and divide
outside of the human body in a lab (Skloot 2010). This was a major scientific discovery. Henrietta s
cells, more commonly known to the public as HeLa, aided in the creation of several scientific
discoveries and are still used today. It is because of HeLa we have the polio vaccine, a better
understanding of cancer, and cells in general. The cells have even been sent into space and have been
exposed to nuclear testing and to toxins (BigPicture). Although Henrietta Lacks s cells have done a lot
good, many ethical issues surround her case such as privacy issues, monetary compensation,
exploitation, and cell contamination to name a few. Perhaps the most important and controversial
ethical issue in Hennrietta s case resides around consent, or the lack there of. When Henrietta was at
John Hopkins receiving her cancer treatment a doctor by the name of TeLinde took a sample of
Henrietta s cervix without her knowledge or consent. But first though no one had told Henrietta that
Telinde was collecting sample or asked she wanted to be a donor Wharton picked up a sharp knife and
shaved two dime sized pieces of tissue from Henritta s cervix: one from her tumor, and one from the
healthy cervical tissue nearby. Then he placed the sample in a glass dish (Skloot, 2010, 33). At the
time of the treatment Henrietta was unconscious and completely unable to accept or reject the biopsy
(Skloot, 2010, 33). Acquiring proper consent from an individual is an ongoing process and needs to be
asked for at every stage of a study with human subjects. The basic

It is made by heating a ceramic material, placing it in a magnetic field then allowing it to cool while
still in the magnetic field. It is the electrostatic equivalent of a permanent magnet. In the electrets
microphone a slice of this material is used as the part of the dielectric of a capacitor in which the
diaphragm of the microphone forms one plate. Sound pressure moves one of its plates. The movement
of the plate changes the capacitance. The electrets capacitor is connected to an FET amplifier. These
microphones are small, have excellent sensitivity, a wide frequency response and a very low cost.
First amplification stage:
This is a standard self biasing common emitter amplifier. The 22nF capacitor isolates the microphone
from the base voltage of the transistor and only allows alternating current (AC) signals to pass.
The tank (LC) circuit:
Every FM transmitter needs an oscillator to generate the radio frequency carrier waves. The tank (LC)
circuit, the BC547 and the feedback 5pF capacitor are the oscillator in the cadre. An input signal is not
needed to sustain the oscillation. The feedback signal makes the base emitter current of the transistor
vary at the resonant frequency. This causes the emitter collector current to vary at the same frequency.
The signal fed to the aerial and radiated as radio waves. The 27pf coupling capacitor on the aerial is to
minimize the effect of the aerial

Question:
Discuss whether or not a hero who is tragic by trait and definition can exist within the structure of the

Response
By definition, a tragic hero is a character who is unavoidably doomed. That hero s fate has already
been decided but the character usually spends the entire course of a story trying tirelessly and
unsuccessfully to change that. Oedipus easily falls into this definition. Oedipus is also a hero that ...

In the Heroic Journey, the hero is someone who is missing or lacking something. For Oedipus, this
would be the health in Thebes. Thebes can not lift her head from the death surge of the plague and it is
Oedipus ultimate goal, as king, to end the plague and keep his citizens safe. (Fitzgerald, 4) This would
be the grail in Oedipus story, as well as the truth about his past and the murder of king Laїos. The first
phase of the Hero s Journey is Separation from the Known and this begins with The Call . The call
invites the hero into the adventure, which in Oedipus case would be Creon bringing back the prophecy
from Delphi. Instantly, Oedipus questions what defilement? and how shall [they] rid [themselves] of
it? and that is the point where he willingly accepts his journey. (Fitzgerald, 7) Creon acts as the herald,
initiating the call when he brings the news from the gods. The second step in phase one is The
Threshold . The accusation of Oedipus as the murderer of king Laїos acts as the threshold because
Oedipus enters into his real quest to discover the truth about the murderer. Teirisias acts as the
threshold guardian because he knows that Oedipus killed Laїos but because there is no help in the
truth he refuses to give Oedipus this information. (Fitzgerald, 17) Phase two of the hero s journey is
Initiation and Transformation and this includes The Challenges , The

13. Deng Xiaoping s Economic Reform
Throughout time, many countries have needed to implement some sort of economic reform in order to
strengthen their economy so that they can be more of a power on the world stage and to stabilize their
country. The Chinese reforms were long in the making, an unfolding process that had spanned most of
the 20th century and, unlike other countries such as Russia who were trying to do the same thing but
whom eventually failed, China prospered, and increased its economy greatly. China has had the fastest
growing economy in the world for the past two decades, with an annual growth rate of approximately
10 percent since the economic reforms in 1979, and now has the second largest GDP in the world,
second only to the USA. Starting in 1979 they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This moved gradually increased agricultural production, increased the living standards of hundreds of
millions of farmers and stimulated the rural industry (Brandt, 2008). Reforms were also put in place in
the urban industry to increase the waning productivity. A dual price system was also introduced,
wherein state owned industries were allowed to sell any production above the plan quota, and
commodities were sold at both plan and market prices, which then allowed citizens to avoid the
shortages of the Maoist era. Private businesses were also allowed to operate for the first time since the
Communist takeover, and they gradually began to make up a greater percentage of industrial output
(Brandt, 2008). Price flexibility was also increased, in turn, expanding the service sector (Brandt,
2008). During this time period, China was also opened to foreign investment for the first time since
the Kuomintang era. It was during this time that Deng created a series of special economic zones for
foreign investment that were relatively free of the bureaucratic regulations and interventions that had
hampered economic growth for so long until this time. These regions became the engines of growth
for the national economy (Brandt, 2008). Following this, the period of 1984 1993 Deng s policies
continued beyond his initial reforms. Controls on private businesses and government intervention
continued to decrease, and there was

14. The Elevator William Sleator
Of all the battles young Martin faces from William Sleator s The Elevator , a reader can grasp one of
the greatest and most important themes to fit this story. When Martin and his dad move into an
apartment, Martin is apprehensive about it because of the fact that the place is old and practically
falling apart. For one, Martin is afraid of elevators, and he has to use an old one everyday. To top it
off, he has to ride the old thing with a mysterious, creepy, fat lady. Once Martin s situation gets to the
point of being unbearable, he confronts his dad telling him about the creepy lady on the elevator.
Martin s dad is the exact opposite of how a father should be. Martin s dad insults him whenever he
looks to him for help. Also, Martin doesn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this fails to account for Martin s dad s and the lady on the elevator s actions because for one,
Martin s dad continuously, non stop insults his own son, making him feel like a disappointment. If one
was to be treated like that by their own father, one would also think that they would be hurt or affected
in some way. Martin is not acting irrational or making a big deal of his situation, if anything, he
reacted normally. Like I said before, in the story after Martin goes to his dad seeking for help, his dad
starts insulting him and calling him names, what does one think he should do at twelve when you look
to your father because you have no mother and all his dad does is insult him? Therefore Martin is
doing well in his situation because he tries not to cry as the story says, he only cries when his situation
is unbearable which is appropriate in this situation.
In conclusion, William Sleator uses many different craft moves to lead to the theme. Sleator uses
thoughtshots, foreshadowing, irony, and tension to lead readers to infer that the theme of the story is in
order to thrive in life, you cannot let other s judgement s change you or the way you think. Martin
learns the hard way because he allows his dad, bullies at school, and the lady on the elevator affect
him, and then ironically his worst fear becomes a

15. Illegal Immigration From Latin America Is On The News All
Illegal immigration from Latin America is on the news all the time in the United States, almost a daily
basis on the main network channels. From President Trump calling for a wall on the Mexican
American border, to major cities like New York and Chicago declaring themselves sanctuaries for
illegal immigrants. Both sides seem to throw out labels without care for the truth, or opinions that
differ from their own. Without a common understanding of what the facts are, it is difficult to be able
to create an informed decision without looking at the history of illegal immigration from Latin
America into the United States of America. The term illegal immigrant is actually not the term that the
United States government uses. The US government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States has yet to budge on the issue of what to call these individuals who are residing in
the United States without the legal right; as a result this piece of literature will use either the term
illegal immigrant or illegal alien to keep consistency with the terms used by the government of the
United States of America. The United States shares a nearly 2,000 mile long border with the United
Mexican States, or commonly known simply as Mexico. Along this border, lies many natural barriers
such as the Rio Grande River that separates American states like Texas and New Mexico from their
Mexican counterparts Chihuahua and Coahuila. Other areas on this border do not have rivers that
separate the two countries, but rugged terrain where temperatures can regularly reach the mid to upper
nineties. While border patrol surveys the land in an attempt to halt people from entering the United
States through illegal measures, they are not always successful as these individuals sometimes enter
the US without detection with help of paid guides. Unfortunately due to the unfamiliarity with the
land, and the lack of supplies, many have perished in the quest for a better life.
While illegal immigration from Latin America has only recently become a major issue, the United
States has a much longer history of illegal immigration from Latin America than one would think.
During the Second World War, the United States created

Over the summer I went to Nashville, Tennessee for a missions trip with my youth group. During the
trip, I experienced many awkward and embarrassing situations that I wish I didn t have to live

the week was pretty hectic. There were three particular incidents that really stick out when I think of
Missions Trip 2016. These incidents include an atrocious crew and crew leader, a flirtatious man, and
a scary church where we stayed. The first incident happened upon being assigned to an awful crew.
The crew leader, Pete, was the worst of them all. He was immature and a total stick in the mud. For

staying. The church where we were housed was so old, the missions trip leaders had to have us choose

choice. All the youth groups were separated into different rooms, when usually each youth group has

17. Analysis Of Disney Cartoons From Disney
I watched all of THE BOOZE HANGS HIGH, RED HOT RIDING HOOD, MONKEY DOODLE,
FAST AND FURRY OUS, and AN OPTICAL POEM. These animations were very different from the
likes of Disney. I noticed that almost all of these animations were meant for adults definitely not
children. I also realized that the animation styles were different from Disney. Pigs drinking booze, Red
Riding Hood as a burlesque singer, lustful monkeys looking at naked female monkeys with proper
human anatomy, Road Runner being blown to smithereens by Coyote. Just think about all the scenes I
just described. Would you want your children being exposed to these things? I believe most
commendable parents even nowadays would say HELL NO!! I was baffled and surprised at how
cartoons of this time were not meant for kids. This seemed so backward to me, growing up watching
LOONEY TOONS as a kids show. I think that cartoons started this way due to the people who were
going out to the movies and watching these cartoons were adults. Adults don t want to watch cartoons
that appeal to children when they are on a date or trying to get time away from their kids. In contrast,
from Disney, the competition saw an untouched market. Disney quickly began to focus their cartoons
toward children. The competition, on the other hand, marketed to a more mature audience. Making
studios like Warner Brothers have a lucrative stake in the animation business. The hilarity of it is that
these days THE LOONEY TOONS cartoons are kid friendly they won t even show the episode where
Elmer Fud kills Bugs Bunny. The fact that the competitor s studios decided to aim for a more mature
audience shows me two things. The first is the studios did not believe they could compete head to
head with Disney. Lastly, it shows that the studios were not scared to create cartoons that were lewd.
In essence, the competing studios handled their published animations in a business minded way. They
decided not to compete head on with Disney but to offset themselves from Disney s audience and
reach the audience that made and held the money. In PLANE CRAZY no background is the same. In
MONKEY DOODLE and FAST AND FURRY OUS, we observe the same background scene used
more than once in a scene that

19. Analysis Of David Bezmozgis s An Animal And The Memory
What does it mean to be Jewish? For many, that identification of Judaism is closely aligned with more
than traditional upbringings or religious and cultural observances. The collective meaning behind
being a Jewish person is rooted in memory, and the Holocaust itself is often the crucial link to a shared
Jewish past. It is the central part of that history and identity, connected to a larger narrative of pain,
trauma or even shame. The short story by David Bezmozgis An Animal to the Memory illustrates such
a situation. By making the argument that The Holocaust is completely rooted in the communal Jewish
identity. And while keeping the memory of The Holocaust alive is important, Bezmozgis also makes
the case that there must be a sort of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At school, I kept to myself, glowered in the hallways, and, with the right kind of provocation, punched
people in the face. Mark is expected to feel a certain way about being Jewish, but that label means
something different for him then it means for his parents. Such as when his family is leaving his
grandparents in Vienna at the beginning of the story, his grandfather refuses to go chasing them
around the globe. His reasoning being
Grandfather: There, I ll never have to hear dirty Jew,
Mark s father/ uncle: So Instead you ll hear dirty Russian. Grandfather: Maybe, but you re going to

The Holocaust becomes the center of this. Whether it be at his Hebrew school, where Jewish history
shaped not only the curriculum they learn. But, also as a collective identity shared by a new and
contemporary Jewish generation. While still being connected to the past. This is a struggle for Mark,
who does not even identify himself as Jewish for most of the story, He is continuously challenged with
where to place himself in this new world, as a second generation immigrant to Toronto. For Mark,
being a young Latvian Jew is not easy.

21. The Struggle Of Gay Rights
The struggle between Edward and Bella in the Twilight Saga can be closely related to the struggle of
gay right s in today s society. During the whole entire saga Edward and Bella have to fight to keep
their relationship with one another. This is similar to what the LGBT community has been doing for
many years now. In the Twilight Saga some of the characters do not believe that Edward and Bella
should be with one another because he is a vampire and she is a human. Similarly in today s society
some people do not believe that people of the same sex should be in a relationship or marry one
another. The biggest factor that plays into why people believe and think this way is because of the
unknown factor of it all, they have it very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that they thought that this was a mental disorder was very wrong, and it also shows how close
minded people are. Just because one is different, or loves differently than another person, does not
mean that they have a mental illness. If it did, we would be claiming that a lot of people have mental
illnesses. More recently things that have happened for the LGBT community is that on April 1st of
1998, Coretta Scott King who was formally Martin Luther King Jr. s wife, now a widow, stood up and
called on the civil rights community to help her join the struggle for the LGBT community ( PBS ).
She received lots of criticism for this because she was comparing civil rights to gay rights. The
representatives of the black civil rights movement thought that this was wrong of her ( PBS ). The
stance of the African American Community is hard to believe. One would assume that African
Americans might be somewhat more accepting of others considering that they too have gone through
the struggle and know what it feels like to be treated unfairly, but in this case that was not necessarily
true.
Finally, in 2008 on May 18th, Massachusetts became the very first state to legalize gay marriage in the
United States of America. The court finally was able to see that denying the LGBT community the
right to marry was unconstitutional because it denied people their dignity as well as

22. Capital Punishment Of The Criminal Justice System
In the United States, capital punishment has always been the spotlight of many debates concerning the
consequences of severe crimes. Although capital punishment is deemed to be acceptable for violent
crimes such as murder, there are numerous individuals who oppose the usage of capital punishment
against violent offenders. Both proponents and opponents have given countless opinions concerning
the deterrence effect of capital punishment. Research studies have also added fuel to the debate in
regards to the effectiveness of capital punishment in the criminal justice system. With the differences
in between the pros and cons of capital punishment, it is hard to come to a concrete conclusion on
whether or not if this element serves its purpose in the penal system. This paper will further discuss if
capital punishment is effective in deterring violent crimes as well its implications for the future.
As common knowledge, the word punishment is usually used to describe something that is a painful
consequence or outcome based on one s actions and/or poor decision making. In the criminal justice
system, punishment is a sanction that is opposed on offenders for committing a criminal offense
(Banks, 2013). Thus, the utilization of capital punishment is not new when it comes to the element of
punishment. Capital punishment can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece. For example,
Socrates was tried and executed for corrupting the minds of Athenian youth (Ristroph, 2009,

Every year, February is to be known as the Black History Month, or formally known as National
African American History Month. It is an annual commemoration of achievements by African
Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in United States history.
Black History Month had its origins in 1915 when Dr. Cater G. Woodson and his colleagues founded
the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History ( African American History Month, 2014).
This organization is now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and
History. Through this organization, Dr. Cater G. Woodson played the greatest role in helping all
Americans know the Black past by initiating Negro History Week in Washington, D.C. in February
1926 (Bunch, 2012). Dr. Woodson selected the week in February that included the birthdays of
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass due to the fact they were key figures in the history of
African Americans ( African American History Month, 2014). According to Bunch (2012), Woodson
believed that the black experience was too important simply to be left to a small group of academics.
Dr. Cater G. Woodson, a son of a slave, was born in New Canton, Virginia on December 19, 1875
(Bellis, n.d.). Although he did not enter high school until the age of 20, he continued to study at Berea
College, the University of Chicago, the Sorbonne, and Harvard University, where he earned a PhD in

The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko clarifies the principal reasons
why a few people are tycoons and others are most certainly not. As opposed to prevalent suspicion,
most moguls are extremely parsimonious and are not hyperconsumers. They don t have costly,
extravagance, remote autos, they have humble homes in working class neighborhoods, and they
spending plan for every one of their costs. Most tycoons live well beneath their methods. That is
definitely why they are moguls. The vast majority who procure high salaries are not rich, and they
neglect to gather any enduring riches. They spend their cash as quick as they procure it. Keeping in
mind the end goal to gather riches, the creators propose that individuals need to play great offense.
You should spending plan, spending plan, and spending plan. The creators clarify how the normal
individual gains riches through seven shared factors.
The primary shared factor is to live well beneath your methods. As expressed some time recently,
most moguls are extremely economical. They know how much cash they have and where each penny
of it is spent. They make a month to month or yearly spending plan or both. Generally, they try to do
they say others should do and pass these qualities onto their kids. They spare cash and realize what it

The Deformity
The bright lights and unknown voices travelled around me. It surly wasn t the first time I had

ease my nervousness with their soothing words, but being so anxious nothing could soothe me.
It all started at birth. My deformity was nothing new to the medical world, but in my parent s eyes it
was something out of fiction. My feet were turned in like hockey sticks. In medical jargon it is noted
as club foot which is a perfect description. But of course my parents being who they are dismissed my
quark and accepted me and fell in love. This could be said about the rest of my family too, but when
they finally were able to conceive what was actually occurring they became weary and quite sad,
especially my grandfather. When he first picked me up he took me to the corner seat of the hospital
room and cried. But, his fear and sadness did come with love and acceptance.
At the age of one I received my first surgery. Being June, the temperature was excruciating which only
made things worse for my casts and me. The sweat would drip down my legs and into the crevasses
where I could not reach. The moisture would sit in the cloth for days and my wounds would itch

Wildlife is an important part of ecological community as it plays an important role in the environment.
I know that conservation and management of wildlife is a very complex issue, but to save wildlife, we

is but a fragment of a national discussion that has been ongoing in this country for many years, and the

independent nation who wants to ameliorate its tertiary level institution with inadequate financial
resources. She further explains that the Bahamas is too greedy and is ashamed of the College that we

simply cannot afford it. In response to Burnside s arguments, I most certainly agree with her. The

Standardized testing is used throughout every grade in school today. There is a lot of controversy
surrounding the use of standardized testing to access students progress. Many teachers feel that they
must teach to the test and parents feel that their child is spending too much time testing and not
enough time learning. According to a new study, preschools spend an average of 4.8 hours, third
graders spend an average of 20.6 hours, eighth graders spend an average of 25.3 hours, and eleventh
graders spend an average of 22.5 hours on testing (Layton, 2015). Although, some parents, teachers,

schools, because they feel that standardized testing are becoming harmful to students. 1) How do you
calculate mean, median, mode, and standard deviation? Mean is the average of a group of scores
(Woolfolk, 2014). Mean and average are used interchangeably. To find the mean, a teacher will add all
of the scores together and divided by the number of tests. For example, a teacher wants to find the
mean of the spelling test, the spelling test scores are as the following, 10, 8, 7, 8, 10, 10, 6, 5, 7, and 5.
The first step is to add all of the scores together (76). The second step is to divided by the number of

32. Barbarism Vs Imperialism
In Western history the term civilization has often been equated with progress which is absurd because
both terms are subjective to the individual or a group. Europeans created the word civilization which
means they also set the standards for what qualifies as civilized and the rest of the world follow.
According to Raymond Williams, Civilization , `in modern English civilization still refers to a general
condition or state, and is still contrasted with savagery or barbarism , this quote brought back the
origin of the word civilized and its opposite barbarism.. Barbarism is the act or the attitude of someone
of greater authority degrading an outsider or a foreigner because of how they are different from you.

material life to the life of the mind. Those three words are connected and they will forever stay that
way. Wherever there is civilization there will be barbarism and culture. There are package deals. You
cannot have one without having another, can you have a civilization without having a culture, the

Not a Hero is a simple and beautiful World War One poem by Clyde Hamilton which has been read at
ANZAC Day ceremonies across Australia. The poem tells a narrative of an ANZAC veteran, or old

yet descriptive and telling vocabulary, as well as using literary devices such as rhyme and alliteration.
It s conservative and structured style demonstrated throughout the poem creates rhythm and makes the
poem flow and thus easier to fathom. The poem s theme is a simple, yet powerful one; never forget the
people who sacrificed their life for ours to be free. The poem refers to these people as heroes
repeatedly in accordance with the theme. This also links back to the title, Not A Hero, as I served with
many heroes, the ones that never came home. So when you talk of heroes, it s important to understand,

Time Value of Money
The time value of money serves as the foundation of finance. The fact that a dollar today is worth
more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a
dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial
calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of
the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated.
One financial application of the time value of money is buying or selling a house mortgage note.

The MBA graduate will add to this calculation the opportunity cost which D. Henderson points out is
redundant in word use, but an invaluable concept to the financial world. The true cost of something is
what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue.
In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it
could be used for instead. (2002).
In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price,
the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See
Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the
principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005).
The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs
(41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up
costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the
money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. At a return rate of 8%, if
the buyer had purchased a less expense car at 30,000 and invested 500 per year over 20 years, he

The Colossal Statue of King Tuthankhamun and the Lamassu are amazing works of art. Of the eight
works assigned, these two particularly caught my eye. The two pieces, though very different, have
many similarities. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities and differences of style in terms of
their overall shape, proportions, and individual parts.
The Lamassu of the Assyrian kingdom was quite large in size as it guarded the entrances to the throne
room of the Assyrian king. The size of the winged bull with a human head was surely an important
part in guarding the gates and instilling fear in all that passed it. It is a relief sculpture of mostly high
relief elements as the wings are the only parts that appear to be in low relief. The entire body, except
the head, is in profile view. I believe that this was done purposely to create a gaze between the
Lamassu and whoever passed it in order to instill fear. The head is also not proportioned with the rest
of the body as it appears smaller than that of which it should be. The head of the Lamassu is also
decorated with possibly a crown of some sort, earrings, and a beard. His beard has a distinct pattern
that creates texture amongst as well as within his earrings. This same textured pattern can also be seen
in different areas of the bull body as well as the bottom of the tail. The bull body is strong and
muscular as veins can even be seen bulging out in the muscles of its legs. All of these details are

many people have gotten to where they are by being unethical. when you have to compromise your

41. Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent Into The Maelstrom
In Edgar Allan Poe s A Descent into the Maelstrom, the power of nature is underestimated. Aspects of
the natural world are depicted in an extreme, otherworldly and almost unfathomable form, and serve
as indicators for a journey into a world that is within nature, but simultaneously borders on the
supernatural. Common elements of the natural world are intensified and serve as symbolic, rather than
everyday elements. Their exaggerated forms signify a break from a more familiar, assumed
understanding of nature, which man thought he could predict and control, to a more powerful force.
The protagonist in A Descent into the Maelstrom attempts to use reasoning and science to prepare to
map out nature s workings, which proves to be unreliable as he encounters natural forces that surround
supernatural events. The end result is that a reliance on the principles of science and reason are
exchanged for a renewed understanding of the powerful role of nature and its relation with the cosmic.
Through the sailor s changed perspective after encountering the maelstrom, the reader is able to see
the relationship between the nature of the cosmos and man s place in it. It is through the comparative
theme of the cosmic versus the small that Poe challenges the favored prevalence of scientific thinking
that stemmed from the Enlightenment. In a time where the complexities of religion and nature were
being overwhelmed by a preference for scientific explanation and thought, Poe challenges that

Table 2 shows the formulation of artificial sweat solution. The printing intensities of the artificial

intensity decreases as the output level increase). The intensity of the artificial latent fingermark printed
on the small pieces (8 12 cm) of photocopy paper was estimated by the weight difference of the paper
before and after the printing. The printing and weighing process was repeated 5 times, and the weight
changes of paper are shown in Fig. 1, indicating that the intensities of printed artificial latent
fingermarks are almost linearly decreasing as the output level of printing increases. Since the printer
performance may change over time, the quality of the printed image may change depending on the
time, even if one image is printed with the same printer. Therefore, the printing quality of latent

44. The Case Involving Medical Negligence
1. Introduction
In the case of Gregg v Scott, The House of Lords confronted the issue of financial recovery for the
loss of chance in a case involving medical negligence. By a majority of 3 2, their Lordships refused to
recognize loss of chance as leading to a recovery of damages.
This paper will examine the judgments of Lord Nicholls and Lord Hoffmann. Representing the
dissenting and majority judgment respectively, they have presented a set of arguments that were most
compelling for cases of medical negligence dealing with a loss of chance. This paper will distinguish
the judgments of both Lordships and will examine the reasoning behind their arguments while finally
touching upon criticisms of their respective positions.

In order to have a successful claim for compensation, the claimant had to demonstrate that the
defendant was the factual cause of the loss suffered.
Therefore, the claimant had to argue that, on the balance of probabilities, the negligence of the
defendant was a result of the injury to establish causation. In this case, the injury is the loss of chance
of recovery. The claimant argued inter alia, that even though he was deprived of his recovery and
could not recover damages, he ought to recover for the loss of chance of recovery due to the
negligence on the part of the defendant.
3. History of Litigation
3.1 Trial Court Judgment
The trail court judge explained that Dr. Scott was negligent for failing to show that the growth might
not have been benign. However, the judge ruled that the defendant had breached his duty of care.
On the question of whether the negligence of the defendant was a contributing factor to the claimant
being unlikely to survive ten years, the court held that the claimant would have had no chance to
survive the ten year period, even with treatment.
The trial judge, Judge Inglis, relied on expert evidence at the time of the misdiagnosis that Mr. Gregg
had a 42 per cent chance of survival in a period of 10 years, with 10 year survival being the cure .
However, because of the delay in diagnosis, it had reduced Mr. Gregg s prospects to a 25 per cent. Mr.
Gregg argued a loss of chance in court.

Furthermore, tuition annual rate has an outrageous inflation relationship with time. In Josh Mitchell
and Andrea Fuller Wall Street Journal it states, Among the four year schools in the Journal s analysis,
the average increase in tuition and fees was greater than 75% in the past decade, outpacing inflation.
(pp9). As college tuition continue to increase, the more individuals will be in debt. While the
importance of a higher education increases the chances of becoming successful, more people will
gravitate towards higher education knowing that loans will always be an option and having the idea
that debt is normal to ensure a stable future. Not only will this start to affect individuals but the
government will eventually suffer. Wight Martindale Jr states, ...too much money spent, too little

debt with a bunch of stress. He also talks about how it is a bubble, this is a bubble that many students
hate to be in. This bubble is known for being unable to burst which is a problem for multiple students
because college shouldn t be about money and stress. The more money the government give out and
not receive as much in and they borrow from different countries, the country will stay in debt itself.

OLD BLOOD AND GUTS
General Patton was a devoted student of history, a poet, a humble man who was very unsure of his
own abilities, a man who could bust into tears at any given moment, and could be charming or quite
insulting all in the same hour. His reckless, outspoken manner gained him friends and enemies of
equal determination. General Patton was not only extrovert of public perception but he also had an
intensely private side. He was a man who trained himself for greatness with a determination matched
by no other Allied General of World War Two. During the war, Patton led U.S. troops in Morocco,
Tunisia, and Sicily, then took command of the Third Army, leading the troops through the German

In this, he made a well known name for himself. Between the two World Wars, Patton feared he would
not be used for what he thought God had put him on Earth to do.
Such fear is evident in the following passage taken from a letter he wrote in the 1930 s: As I approach
41 and there is no war...I fear that I shall live to retire a useless soldier.
Patton knew in 1939 that the war in Europe was his destiny. The General understood what he faced in
leaving for war. This is stressed in a entry of his journal which reads, This is my last night in America.
It may be for years and it may be forever. 6
The General s first combat experience of World War Two was in Africa when he fought against the
best the German s had to offer, General Erwin Rommel. Patton s leadership lead to the first major
defeats of the Germans to the Americans. This proved to the world that the Americans and General
George Smith Patton were a force to be reckoned with. While in Africa Patton said to his men If I win
I can t be stopped! If I lose I shall be dead. 7 This famous quote was one of many which showed the
nature of his thoughts. After the African campaign, Patton fought brilliantly in Sicily and Italy helping
to prepare the Germans for their eventual fall.
After his conquest in Italy, General Patton moved to England to help prepare the Allies for one of the
most important battles of the 20th

48. A Streetcar Named Desire Critical Summary
To conclude A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams did a fantastic job with revealing much of
Blanche s secrets. Scene nine began with Mitch coming over a little buzzed, but he definitely knew
why he was there. Blanch was alone and seemed to be surprised that he had came back. She rambled
on and on as he sat there to take it for a while. Eventually, he admitted to Blanche what he had heard
about her from three different people as he goes to turn on the light because he had also found that she
was quite a bit older than him. She tried to make excuses and somewhat owned up to part of the
accusations. Blanche wanted to marry him, however, Mitch claimed that she wasn t clean enough for
him or his mother. Blanche screamed fire out of the window until it he scattered from Stanley and
Stella s home. She was having illusions and hearing noises all afternoon, so much that it drove her to
have a few drinks. Stanley soon comes in only to find Blanche wearing a fake tiara. He threw himself
at her with force as she begged for mercy. Stella was in the hospital getting ready to have a baby while
Stanley, from what I understand, raped her sister. That part was a surprise to me because I didn t feel
that he would do anything like that since he just wanted her out of his home. Although, I think that all
of those times that Blanche called him an animal was building up to it. He wanted to show her what he
really is. In the last scene when Stella is home, she had called for a doctor and

51. Flossing Informative Speech
Most of us know that brushing and flossing go hand in hand when it comes to good oral health.
Brushing with a minty toothpaste makes our mouths feel fresh so it s easy to remember to include it in
our daily routine; but flossing is often an afterthought if it s a thought at all. If you visit your dental
clinic in Frisco TX twice a year for your checkups, your dentist or hygienist likely asks if you re
remembering to floss and you know you usually answer yes even though you really can t remember
the last time you did it. What s the big deal with flossing? Is it really that important? Dental plaque is
basically a biofilm made up of the bacteria that live in your mouth. The film adheres to your teeth and
gums. When you feed the bacteria carbohydrates, like those found in sugar, milk, soft drinks, candy
and cake, they not only multiply faster, they produce an acid that leads to tooth decay and gum
disease. When you visit your dental clinic in Frisco TX, they will tell you that the longer this acidic
plaque remains on your teeth, the more likely you ll develop cavities or gum disease. They ll also tell
you how important it is to remove as much of this plaque film as possible with thorough brushing at
least twice a day and flossing once a day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

how well you floss is more important than when you floss although the commonly held wisdom that

How to Achieve a Successful Sale
Selling your property can be a very stressful process and will most likely be one of the biggest
financial decisions you will ever make in your life. We have put this guide together to help you
maximise your sale price and guide you through the conveyancing process.
Many sellers wish to undertake the marketing and sale of their properties privately, and whilst this is
fine, be prepared to navigate the pitfalls that come with it. You may eventually make a sale, and save

If you appoint a professional Real Estate Agent, you are more likely to have a quicker sale and achieve

However, this is merely how is should be, but is not how it is for Eric. Lack of iniative is not the

54. The Theory Of The Social Learning Theory
The act of learning is an innate characteristic belonging to people across the globe. Learning can take
place in many different forms (reading, writing, speaking, listening, excellency in a particular skill,
etc.) and settings, generalizing from one content area to another. It also occurs at varying rates across a
diverse spectrum of populations and can be influenced by any number of factors including
personalities, perceived abilities, societal values and environment. Some individuals acquire
information best in formal settings, like the direct instruction or supports found in a classroom, while
others may benefit more from informal instruction, learning incidentally from their surroundings.
Throughout the course of history, there have been many perspectives regarding education and the
manner in which individuals learn best. I will primarily focus on the educational perspective of the
Social Learning Theory and briefly discuss its history as well as its prominent figures, components,
and implications in regard to language and literacy both inside and outside of the classroom.
In 1954 Julian B. Rotter developed the Social Learning Theory that gravitated away from Freud s
psychoanalysis and Skinner s behaviorism that focused on behavior rather than intrinsic thought. They
were the most popular theories during that time, focusing on experimental methods, emphasizing
variables that are observable, measurable, and manipulatable, avoiding whatever is subjective,
