Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a great
deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the book is on
page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed with the
ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them, and become
more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain in a comic
book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down, he always came
back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been better. Also, Krakauer
s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused. Nevertheless, not all is bad about
Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he included actual entries from
Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and family. In doing so, Krakauer made
me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his loved ones. This made a powerful impact
on the book and reader.
Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is

Another limitation that can appear when examining the memory of trauma is that trauma victims do
not elicit the same response to trauma. Individuals who experience psychological trauma, physical
trauma or both all remember the abuse differently. Many trauma victims may have repressed those

The first time my father yelled at me I was six years old. I mean really raised his voice. My father had
never used that kind of a tone with me before so naturally I was equally surprised as scared. As I grew
older and connected events I realized my father had been upset, not because I was out of bed late at

had an ideal relationship with my father, I suppose as normal as any other six year old child could

believe that to truly have a good, grounded, relationship with someone you need to be able to trust that
person, enjoy their company, and accept the person for who they are. In a genuine relationship two
people should be able to trust each other, to not have any doubt in the other person. Trust is the key
component to a healthy relationship and it provides a sense of safety which allows for higher levels of

In To Kill A Mockingbird the main conflict is the Tom Robinson case. Tom Robinson was accused of
beating and raping Mayella Violet Ewell. The people of Maycomb see Tom in two different ways.
There is the public view of Tom and the private view of him. The public view would include the
people of Maycomb who do not know Tom at a personal level, while the private view would be his
family, Calpurnia, and the other African Americans in the town of Maycomb. The public see Tom as a

248). Tom was very built, and that did not help his case. Before Tom even gave his testimony most
people in the court and jury believed he was guilty. Furthermore, The public view of Tom Robinson
also includes that he is an abusive man that takes advantage of woman. Such as when Mayella said I
got somethin to say a I ain t say no more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me (Lee 251). After
she said this, Tom became known as a person who would hurt women in an appalling way. Another
example is when Atticus says Miss Mayella, not to be tedious, you ve testified that the defendant hit
you, grabbed you around the neck, choked you, and took advantage of you (Lee 248). Mayella states
all of these facts in her testimony; making Tom look like a untrustworthy man. One part of her story
states that she went in the house to get him the nickel and turned around an fore she knew it he was on
her . (Lee 241) . Mayella makes the chance of Tom being innocent lower with her lies; Tom becomes a
monster to the public view. On the other hand to some he is as innocent as a mockingbird. These
people know the real Tom Robinson. They belive that Tom is a generous and a hardworking man. A
