Essay on Taser Guns
Police misconduct and abuse of power has always been an issue in the American Society. As time
progresses so does the world around us, in particular, technology advancement plays a major issue in
our everyday lives. With the rapid advancement in technology, issues of law enforcement and its
power have to be addressed. The issue is, whether problems created when new technologies and the
criminal justice system meet a positive one or do the negatives outweigh the positives. The main focus
is the use of tasers by law enforcement. The Taser is a hand held conducted energy weapon that uses
propelled (i.e., shot) wires to send out or conduct energy that affects the sensory and motor functions
of the central nervous system (Paul V. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An incident late Tuesday night in which a UCLA student was stunned at least four times with a Taser
has left the UCLA community questioning whether the university police officers use of force was an
appropriate response to the situation...A six minute video showed Tabatabainejad audibly screaming in
pain as he was stunned several times with a Taser, each time for three to five seconds. He was told
repeatedly to stand up and stop fighting, and was told that if he did not do so he would get Tased
again. Tabatabainejad was also stunned with the Taser when he was already handcuffed, said Carlos
Zaragoza, a third year English and history student who witnessed the incident. (He was) no possible
danger to any of the police, Zaragoza said. (He was) getting shocked and Tasered as he was
handcuffed (Sara Taylor, Bruin senior staff). For sake of recent news let us look at one more situation
that closely ties in to all of our lives pertaining to freedom of speech and press. On September 18th,
2007 a student at University of Florida, asks U.S. Sen. John Kerry questions during a campus forum,
once again law enforcement is seen using the taser gun in an inappropriate way. Videos of the Monday
night incident, posted on several Web sites and played repeatedly on television news, show University
of Florida police officers pulling Meyer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about
impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society

The Catholic Church During The Middle Ages And Through The...
Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in Europe.
Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for
not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and
money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch
prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches.
Firstly, I will discuss how the Catholic Church had an impact on most prosecutions. Secondly, I will
explain how social stereotypes of that period have also influenced with the causes of prosecution of
many alleged witches. Thirdly, I will discuss how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive
witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the
practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also
describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These
accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish
those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7)
Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes
attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the
rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil,
leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the
Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies
of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing
so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the
public and using it to prosecute those who

The Diffusion Of Water Across A Permeable Membrane Essay
INTRODUCTION
Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane (Raven et al. G 16). In this
experiment, dialysis tubing was used to mimic the selectively permeable membrane to show what
osmosis does when placed in different solute concentrations. We filled the dialysis tubes with different
percentages of solute and placed them in beakers full of another percentage of solute. Through this
experiment, I saw what happens when the tube becomes hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. If two
solutions have unequal osmotic concentrations, the solution with the higher concentration is
hypertonic, and the solution with lower concentration is hypotonic. (Raven et al. 98) When two
solutions have the same osmotic concentration, the solutions are isotonic. (Raven et al. 98) My
hypothesis was that the bags placed in hypertonic solutions would shrink because the water would
leave the bag to go to the higher concentration. The bags placed in isotonic solutions would stay the
same weight because the water would be going in and out evenly. The bags placed in hypotonic
solutions would swell because water would rush into the cell where the higher concentration was. If
bag A shrinks then it is hypertonic. If bag B stays the same, then it is isotonic. If bag C and D swell,
then they are hypotonic.
METHODS
To conduct this experiment we used four pieces of dialysis tubing, four pieces of string, one beaker
filled with 10% sucrose and another beaker filled

The City Of New York City Essay
Throughout the centuries humans have seen cities rise and fall; each one had its own unique style and
charm. Although no city is completely alike, they all have one thing in common: the elements that
create them. Without these components, cities would not be successful and they would not foster
memorable urban experiences. The main critical elements that are essential when designing a spatially
rich urban condition are density, street, hierarchy, urban edge, streetwall and facades, and public/urban
space. When a person thinks of New York City, one of the first things that comes to mind is how
crowded it is, not only because of the sheer amount of people but because of the plethora of buildings
as well. In other words, Manhattan is the perfect representation of density. Cities have large and
rapidly growing populations due to the fact that people have been moving to big urban areas in search
of opportunities for many years, and cities have an obligation to provide those opportunities for the
public. Consequently, the more people there are, the bigger the demand is for residential, commercial,
and school buildings. Cities must meet those demands by expanding, which is where density comes in.
Without density, a city would look like and act as any other suburb. The density, or structures, of a city
can be either planned or unplanned. Spiro Kostof, author of The City Shaped: Urban Patterns and
Meanings Through History, states, The first kind is the planned or designed or

Dance In Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance techniques
There is a lot of confusion when you are asking about the contemporary dance as a lot of people even
the dancers don t know what the actual dance form is. Actually, the dance form changes from time to
time so it is not easy to adapt as you have to change with time. Every now and then there are new
experiments and discoveries in the field of contemporary dance. A lot of people and schools are there
who claim to have expertise on the contemporary dance but they usually teach other forms of dance
like ballroom, salsa or some jazz styles. So it is not about the dancing style but shape you re in while
your movement in dancing which indicates a proper technique of contemporary dance.
So in the training, the focus must be on the positions and shape rather than the styles while attending
the classes to learn the contemporary style of dancing. Every lesson will surprise you as it will be very
different from the previously taken lesson. These dancing classes are very good for the preparation of
a huge range of movements possible in a student like dynamics, various forms, and the qualities. That
is the only reason contemporary dancers are seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The major difference which draws a line between contemporary dance and other dance techniques is
the relaxed movement which you can see only in contemporary dance. It has different names in
different places, some call it Release Technique . The dancing is very different from a gym workout as
it can be done in a very relaxed way and keeps you away from unnecessary tension. The execution of
movement is very essential while performing a contemporary dance as it enhances the self awareness
of the dancer. The dancing form allows the freedom of the well being of a dancer rather than just some
physical training exercises which help to improve a dancer in both mind and body. Professional
dancers love this technique a lot as it is very pleasant to work

Paula Deen s Argument Analysis
For quite some time, I have felt horrified not by the various off the cuff utterances of some people, but
by the global reaction to their off hand comments. Of no better example could I site as a commercial
and societal over reaction to an offhand statement is what we witnessed to Paula Deen s comment

30 years ago! Because Mrs. Deen is Southern, she jokingly referred to members of a race of people as
the blasphemous N word. That or something like it that she shared among friends in her home
amounted to a blanket hostile attack on a third of society. Something so outrageous in today s climate,
that her career was destroyed. So magnified were her personal statements as generally hateful seemed

Employee Harassment And Employee Misconduct
Dealing with Employee Misconduct in Senior Communities
Every senior care community is vulnerable to the potential of employee misconduct. Besides the harm
employee misconduct causes to the senior being served and the care center s reputation, these
incidents can cost an organization millions.
Employee Misconduct Leads to a $64 Million Judgment in Georgia
A Georgia court found a residential care facility s staff and several other defendants liable for breach
of contract, negligent conduct, and invasion of privacy. The complaint filed by the mother/guardian of
a resident alleged that a Georgia facility responsible for providing services to persons with mental
disabilities did not supervise its employees, which led to the neglect and abuse of the residents.
In her complaint, the mother/guardian alleged that the employees at the facility beat her son on
numerous occasions, forced him to vote for a particular candidate in a local election (despite the fact
that he lacked the mental capacity to make such a decision on his own) and neglected to adequately
meet his needs. Furthermore, the plaintiff stated that the defendants were aware of the abuse but did
nothing to stop it. The plaintiff was awarded $64.6 million.
What Actions Are Considered Negligence?
Care center negligence has numerous definitions.
For example, the failure to provide adequate/required care to the residents is a form of negligence,
which can include neglecting to:
provide the residents with medication;

4. Identify and define at least two fallacies. Give an example from your personal experience (what you
have heard, read, or said) for each fallacy.
One fallacy that we all have seen used frequently in recent months is the Argumentum ad hominem
(argument against the person) This is a fallacy where you use characteristics or events that a person
was involved in and use those to discredit their beliefs or statements. During the 2012 elections this
tactic was used heavily during the debates and promo spots for both parties. A second favored fallacy
is the False dilemma Fallacy. According to the text this is where you offer two choices (usually only
one favorable) when more exist to prove that the favorable option is the best or only valid option. I use
this fallacy often with my children. At desert time I give them the option of a desert or no desert.
Sometimes they do not like the desert choice I have made in which their choice becomes what I
offered or nothing. Now technically there are several other desert options that I would give the. I use
this as a reinforcement technique to foster thankfulness and obedience.
5. Why do we attempt to avoid fallacies?
We attempt to avoid fallacies because they negate truth and leave us open to criticism on our beliefs.
The use of fallacies can also create a stigma around the facts we

should never get complacent and always be attentive to what is going on with all of their staff and all
of their members. Effective training and constant evaluation of staff members will insure top notch

In short, Bally Total Fitness has been faring well in the fitness industry. First quarter results of 2004

The Results of Title IX on Women s Sports Over two decades have passed since the enactment of Title

result of Title IX, women and girls have benefited from more athletic participation opportunities and
more equitable facilities. Because of Title IX, more women have received athletic scholarships and

The Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve
The influence of the biblical story of Adam and Eve is very apparent in Rappaccinis Daughter. This
being said, it is disappointing that little to no criticisms are found on this topic. Nathanial Hawthorns,
Rappaccinis daughter, is an Allusion of Adam and Eve and therefore an allegory.
When approached with a readers responds critique, one is reminded of the biblical story of Adam and
Eve, the creation of man. The story of Adam and Eve happens in Genesis chapter 2 and 3. Long story
short, god made Adam and eve to look after Eden, he told them to never eat from the tree of
knowledge. A serpent, Satan, persuaded eve to eat the fruit of knowledge, and she persuaded Adam to
do the same, when god found out they were banned from Eden.
If you switch some of the characters and setting you are given a story close to Rappaccinis Daughter.
Giovanni would be Adam and Beatrice would be eve, the serpent would be Rappaccini himself and the
bush covered in purple flowers represents the tree of knowledge. In this version of the creation of
man, everything is manipulated. The serpent, Rappaccini plays god. He changes what god has done
into a perversion. Rappaccini, never persuaded Beatrice to smell the flowers, he exposed it to her,
making her immune. Giovanni falls for this eve and is now stuck to this poisons sin.
Scholars approach this recreated story of the creation of man with the idea of that it follows the tide of
an imaginative scenario of human breeding and tyranny, exploring the

Descriptive Analysis Of The Rose Garden
The painting was a lie.
A bright, pretty lie, bursting with pale pink blooms and fat beams of sunshine.
I d begun it yesterday, an idle study of the rose garden lurking beyond the open windows of the studio.
Through the tangle of thorns and satiny leaves, the brighter green of the hills rolled away into the
distance.
Incessant, unrelenting spring.
If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh
shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling
hills stained red.
But each brushstroke on the wide canvas was calculated; each dab and swirl of blending colors meant
to portray not just idyllic spring, but a sunny disposition as well. Not too ... Show more content on

When it was nothing but smoke and ash, I invited in a wind that swept them from my palms and out
the open windows.
For good measure, I summoned a breeze from the garden to snake through the room, wiping away any
lingering tendril of smoke, filling it with the musty, suffocating smell of roses.
Perhaps when my task here was done, I d burn this manor to the ground, too. Starting with those roses.
Two approaching presences tapped against the back of my mind, and I snatched up another brush,
dipping it in the closest swirl of paint, and lowered the invisible, dark snares I d erected around this
room to alert me of any visitors.
I was working on the way the sunlight illuminated the delicate veins in a rose petal, trying not to think
of how I d once seen it do the same to Illyrian wings, when the doors opened.
I made a good show of appearing lost in my work, hunching my shoulders a bit, angling my head. And
made an even better show of slowly looking over my shoulder, as if the struggle to part myself from
the painting was a true effort.
But the battle was the smile I forced to my mouth. To my eyes the real tell of a smile s genuine nature.
I d practiced in the mirror. Over and over.
So my eyes easily crinkled as I gave a subdued yet happy smile to Tamlin.
To Lucien.
Sorry to interrupt, Tamlin said, scanning my face for any sign of the shadows I remembered to
occasionally fall prey to, the ones I wielded to keep him at bay

Compare And Contrastive And Deductive Reasoning
The inductive and deductive reasoning seems dissimilar to each other from all accounts. Inductive
reasoning involves a scientist using series of correlated observations to reach or infer a conclusion
while deductive reasoning involves predicting a specific result by following existing laws and general
concepts that support a conclusion (OpenStax College, Rice University, 2013). So, considering the
definition of inductive reasoning and the definition of deductive reasoning and their mode of
operations highlighted above, they are apparently different from each other. In comparing and
contrasting both approaches, inductive reasoning focuses on observation while deductive reasoning
considers the generally accepted facts to ascertain the authenticity of a specific case. With the obvious
difference in their modus operandi, inductive and deductive reasoning both use hypothesis, tests,
repetitions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two methods can, as a matter of fact, be complementary when used in experiments. In other
words, the top down logic of the deductive reasoning can be supported by the bottom up logic of the
inductive reasoning. In addition, it may be necessary to evaluate which approach is best for getting the
required findings. The observational approach used by inductive reasoning can be solidified by the
evidence gathered from the test results of a supported hypothesis. This, in my opinion, is what an
intelligent scientist should do when working on a specific experiment. In an attempt to find a solution
or answer tough questions regarding scientific or biological matters, it would be unwise or
unnecessary to apply rigidity in using any of the discussed methods as both are complementary to

b. What is Beth s profit maximizing price and quantity? Answer: MR = MC at a price of $0.60 and
quantity of 5 cups. c. At that price, what are Beth s economic profit and total consumer surplus?
Answer: Profit = (P MC) Q = (0.60 0.20) 5 = $2. Consumer surplus is reservation price minus actual

The Sports Career of Sammy Sosa
Sammy Sosa was a baseball player for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and the Chicago White Sox.
Sammy Sosa gave the nation a lot of entertainment with the competition he had with another baseball
player. He had his reputation ruined, but never did give up baseball. Even though he did not win the
bet, Sammy was not a sore loser. Sammy Sosa was the right fielder for the Chicago Cubs who had hit
more than 100 home runs in 2 seasons. (http://search.ebscohost.com) Sammy s mom, Mireya Sosa,
was born in the Dominican Republic, and she couldn t work for herself, all the money went to her
family. She married at a young age, but it ended in a divorce. She took her son Louis, and left to find a
job. She later on took the job as a maid. Sammy was the fifth child, and he got the nickname Mikey
from his grandmother. Sammy s stepfather had died of massive bleeding in the brain. He had worked
for his family ever since then, and he never did give up. Even though he did not have a mitt or ball,
Sammy had used a milk carton as a mitt, and rolled up socks as the ball. (Susan Korman 13 14)
Sammy had played with two American leagues, then a national league. He had first played with the
Texas rangers which was his first American league team, then he went to the Chicago White Sox. His
first and only national league team was the Chicago Cubs. He then played with the Baltimore Orioles
for one season. Then, he went back to the Texas Rangers in June. After that he had retired that month.

New Zealand s Brand And Marketing Campaign Essay
Abstract I chose New Zealand as I would like to go there. 100% Pure New Zealand has been the
country s brand for a decade and it accurately describes the beauty of the country, which successfully
attracts eco conscious and adventurous tourists. The mountain formations, volcanoes, un spoiled rain
forests, and the coastal areas are the primary attractions. Tourism produces $10.3 billion or 15.3% of
New Zealand s foreign exchange earnings and is their biggest export industry. The top three tourist

Country Brand Index ranks New Zealand as # 11. These results demonstrate the success of the brand

intelligent. When we finish eating the children show us how to properly dispose of any leftovers and
put our dishes away. They have a compost pile for their garden so they want to make sure we dispose
of it correctly. When that s done we stand outside of the dinning hall with the students and say
goodbye. We head back to The Jeweled Hall of 10,000 Buddhas where it is meditation time. The
monks are kneeling on the pillows and chanting. We sit and observe quietly for a little and them set

The Draft Of The Vietnam Draft Lottery

The Vietnam Draft Lottery
Starting in the 1960s, the Cold War began to create problems for the United States. The United States
adopted the Domino Theory, which stated that if one country fell to Communism than other countries
in the region would follow. American foreign policy was largely centered around this idea and once
Northern and Southern Vietnam fell into conflict, the United States became fearful that Communism
would spread throughout Asia. The United States needed to send troops into Vietnam, but many
people opposed the war efforts and did not want to fight. This created a collective action problem that
the government needed to handle. Citizens wanted to have a military that would protect them and fight
for their country, however many people rather free ride and benefit from the military without directly
contributing to it. Through the original draft system, white males from high income families were less
likely to be drafted then men who came from minority backgrounds. This is because they took steps
that would qualify themselves for a deferment and excused them from fighting in the war. The United
States Government eventually had to enforce the draft more effectively and create a fair system. This
new system, called the Draft Lottery, aimed to fix these problems. The change in conscription
regulations serves as a collective action problem in United States History because the original format
that citizens were drafted by led the

Development Of A Service Innovation
Introduction:
The aim of the report is to discuss the development of a service innovation in a hospital care setting.
Therefore the innovation being introduced in the report will focus on the pain management tool for
assessing chronic conditions in service users with dementia in hospital settings. As pain is a very
subjective experience it is important that the tool is specifically based on the individual s own way of
expressing and communicating their pain in relation to their chronic conditions.
The first section of this report will review and evaluate a body of evidence to support the development
of the pain management tool by looking at the subject of the change management proposal, the
relevant stake holders and the change agent to support the change. Secondly the report will focus on
theories and strategies to management of change by using change management model and explaining
the process of it. Thirdly the issues and experience of being a team member in the development of the
service improvement proposal will be reflected and also explore the dynamics of the team. Lastly for
the transition from student nurse to registered nurse, based on the findings from the evaluation of
personal performance further development will be discussed identifying the leadership skills needed
and design an action plan which includes outcomes and how these outcomes will be measured.
The aim of the change is to:
Identify and recognise pain for dementia patients with chronic

Index Fossils Research Paper
Index fossils are fossils used to define and identify geologic patterns. They work on the premise that,
although different sediments may look different depending on the conditions under which they were
laid down. They may include the remains of the same species of fossils. If the concerned species was
short lived (only lasting a few hundred thousand years) then it is certain that the sediments were
deposited within that narrow time period. The shorter the lifespan of the species, the more precisely
different sediments can be correlated, and so rapidly evolving types of fossils are particularly valuable.
The best index fossils have 4 characteristics: they are unique, prevalent, plentiful, and restricted in
geologic time. Most fossils are from

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although
gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age.
How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views
changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated.
Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the
home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned
upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become
acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to
preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak,
unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society
due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we
were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s
inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond
childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions.
Many of my textbooks would mainly revolve around male characters as opposed to female characters
and there were

The Balance of Power and the Congress of Vienna
The Congress of Vienna (1814 1815) No event epitomizes the state of Europe in the wake of the
French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars as well as the Congress of Vienna held between 1814
1815. The culmination of centuries of European political tradition, the Congress was in many ways the
last gasp of monarchy in Europe, as the royal houses tried to restore the Europe they once knew and
ensure that their way of politics and society would be sustained even in the face of the radical wave of
change foreshadowed by the French Revolution. At that time of the Congress Europe was in a state of
disarray. The French Revolution that erupted in 1792, Napoleon Bonaparte s rise to power and the

Once in full swing, the Congress quickly moved into its first phase, the negotiations over Napoleon s
Duchy of Warsaw, otherwise known as Poland. The Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth had been
partitioned between 1772 to 1795 amongst Hapsburg Austria, Prussia, and Russia. Alexander I,
demanding compensation for Russia s efforts against Napoleon pushed for a plan in which the
Prussian and Austrian controlled sections of Poland would be combined into a new Kingdom of
Poland under Russian control. In exchange for ceding their Polish territories, Prussia would be given
the entire kingdom of Saxony, and Austria would be compensated with extensive holdings in northern
Italy. (Gulick) This proposition led to the bitterest conflicts at the Congress in what was dubbed the
Polish Saxon Crisis. The Coalition quickly broke into two opposing camps with Great Britain and
Austria in opposition to the Russian proposition, and Russia and Prussia in support of it. Metternich s
reasons for opposing Russian hegemony over Poland were the most pressing. Russian control of
Poland meant that the Hapsburg Empire would have to share its north and northeastern borders with
Russian soldiery. Likewise, if Prussia were to come into possession of Saxony then the northern
perimeter of the Empire would be even more susceptible to invasion, and the already strong political

Symbols In A Clockwork Orange
Code and Cinematic Signs of A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick is famous for his dark humor movies. He used a lot of codes and signs to express his
stylish aesthetic violence and sexual implications in his movies. A Clockwork Orange can be
considered as one of the best among them.
In the opening milk bar scene with the mannequins, the bar is full of sexual imagery. The film
continues this motif throughout, combining sex with violence as the social norm. Alex s parents are
completely docile and impotent, having no idea of the actual state of world affairs. Strangely, Alex has
an affinity for Beethoven, which often plays ever scenes of violence on sex, including rape scenes.
The main character Alex is a good way to start. In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here Kubrick and the original novel are at complete odds. Deltoid s dialogue, faithful to the book,
depicts Alex as being an inherently evil boy from a good home with good, loving parents . Kubrick s
visual direction appropriately reverses this misguided concept to show that abuse during childhood,
especially that originating in the home, is what leads human beings to abuse others later in life.
In the film, there are a lot of pyramid like shot compositions, Kubrick has frequently placed artificial
light sources at the apex and the number of light sources in these shots sometimes parallels the number
of people coming from an apex to inflict violence.
When Alex and his friends break into the writer s house, it is obvious that there are four unusual light
sources in the house, being put side by side. Each of them has a huge illuminated globe on a stand. In
the same house, but nearly at the end of the film, Alex is eating a meal, the lights (at the same location
as the four unusual light props) behind him gone out. It seems like sunlight comes into the house from
windows off screen, but once the shot is then reversed, audience know that it is artificial light, which

Symbolism through Theme Of Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea To produce a mighty book, you must
choose a mighty theme. No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many
there be that have tried it, stated Herman Melville. As implied, without theme, no novel can be
considered mighty or have any depth. Theme is essential in any work of art. Jane Eyre is a novel by
Charlotte Brontë that takes the reader through the experiences of Jane Eyre, from childhood to
adulthood. This includes her love for Mr. Rochester, who is the master of Thornfield Hall, the school
in which Jane works at as an adult. Wide Sargasso Sea, a novel by Jean Rhys, includes ... Show more

In some cases, it is a symbol used in some cases for rebirth or new life. Jane is often compared to fire
while Antoinette is intrigued by fire. Jane is referred to as a ridge of lighted health, alive, glancing,
devouring (Wide Sargasso Sea, Chapter 4). Also, in Wide Sargasso Sea, Rochester loves the immense
fireflies as he also loves the candles that Antoinette repeatedly puts out around the house. This theme
of fire is obvious in two particular cases. One of these cases is when Coulibri is burned and Anette
falls into insanity, and the other being when Bertha burns Thornfield down, ultimately killing herself
and seriously injuring Rochester (Symbolism in Wide Sargasso Sea). In addition, Rochester, in Wide
Sargasso Sea, describes the West Indies as fiery . This shows his dislike of the land he is not familiar
with until it increases and reaches the point when he decides to shoot himself. This scene relates to the
scene in Jane Eyre when Jane hears Rochester s voice as she walks through the woods. Fire relates
Jane and Antoinette in different ways. Fire additionally describes Jane s love for Rochester, while on
the other hand; it describes Antoinette s pain and fear, whereas it also links Jane and Bertha. The fire
that Jane possesses is her love for Rochester as she describes it as fiery iron grasped my vitals, and
Bertha s literal setting of the fire that kills her. This is symbolic of the new

Analysis Of The Scarlet Ibis
I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death
. The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it was written by the author, James Hurst.
The story is about a young boy (that goes by Brother in this story) who receives a younger brother by
the name of William Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger
brother. It is believed that the young boy had a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known as water
on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is significantly larger than his
body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to his condition, the boy was not able to do much of
anything. Brother thought that the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so
he decided to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make Doodle
able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story, Doodle dies. It is arguable of
whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s death or not. Even though most people believe
that Doodle s death was caused by the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle
s death.
Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is one of the most
controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their own opinion about what caused
the death of Doodle. There are some significant things within the story that would clue to the fact that
something else was responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are
responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that the storm that
came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be found in the text that can back up
most of these theories but the evidence that points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is
overwhelming. For example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that
Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know that I did it just
for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. This shows

Intellectual Property And Patents In The Smartphone Industry
The smartphone industry today is a highly competitive market in which major smartphone
manufacturers utilize patents to increase their sphere of influence within the tech wing. Company
growth and the bottom line may be the primary focus, but a secondary goal of stagnating competitors
through tech control is vital to staying king of the hill. Intellectual property is defined as an invention
or work that is the result of creativity. A company may apply for a patent, copyright, or trademark to
protect intellectual property. A patent is essentially a limited monopoly in which the patent holder is
allotted the exclusive right to make, use, and sell the patented innovation for a limited period of time.
Infringement of a patent is the unlawful making, using, or selling of the patented device within the
territories of the United States, during the term of the patent. The five primary requirements for
patentability are: patentable subject matter, utility, novelty, non obviousness, and enablement. If a
patent is infringed, the patent holder may sue for relief in the appropriate Federal court. The patent
holder may ask the court for an injunction to preclude the persistent breach and may also ask the court
for an award of damages. In such an infringement suit, the defendant may question the validity of the
patent, which is then decided by the court. The defendant may also claim that its actions do not
constitute infringement. Patents are exclusively governed by federal law; the

The Chemical Element Of Uranium
Background
Uranium (U) is a chemical element; it is a silvery white metal. It is one of the heaviest of all the
naturally occurring elements. It was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, it was named after the
planet Uranus, which was discovered eight years earlier. Uranium can be found naturally in small
amounts in rocks, air, soil and water.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Atomic number 92
Atomic mass 238.03 g.mol 1
Density 18.95 g.cm 3 at 20°C
Boiling point 3818 °C
Melting point 1132 °C
Isotopes 11
Electro Negativity according to Pauling 1.7
Uranium is hard, malleable and ductile. Uranium metal has a very high density. It is very reactive so
cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form. When finely divided, it can react with cold
water. In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and acids. It has
the ability to form solid solutions and inter metallic compounds with many metals. While Uranium is
not hazardous by itself, some of its by products and decay products pose a huge threat upon build up.
Uranium is weakly radioactive due to its unstable isotopes; again it has gained importance in the
generation of Nuclear energy. It is of great demand in the production of bullets, missiles and bombs. It
is also used to fuel power plants by enriching it with the uranium 235 isotope. The isotope uranium
238 is used to estimate the age of rocks and also used for radiometric dating. Other

Deconstructing the clock Essay
Summary
Ever since the dawn of civilization we have observed time by its natural occurrence and we also relied
on man made primitive tools to measure time. In the beginning, time has always been a natural event,
for example, sunrise to sunset but men s earlier primitive tools to measure time were inaccurate and
were only an approximate indicator, hence often unreliable such as the hour glass.
We became enslaved by the concept of time; our society is controlled by this mechanical device which
dictates our schedule accordingly. Time has evolved from a simple method of nature into a measurable

The main way that Lombardi created such an influential speech was through his style and invention of
arguments. Coach Lombardi used a style in his speech that made everything very clear to the
audience. His speech was very casual and used language that, although powerful and moving, was
easily understood by anyone who listened to the speech. This allowed his speech to connect with a
much wider audience than football players, fans, or reporters. Still, today, this speech is easily
understood but conveys the powerful message that anything is possible through hard work. It is so
well known, that it is used on motivational posters today. Furthermore, apart from the simplistic,
powerful style, Lombardi uses a type of invention for his arguments that makes his perspective very
clear to see. For example, he argues that a football player must play in his entirety in order to be
successful. He begins this argument by saying, he s got to play from the ground up from the soles of
his feet right up to his head. He then emphasizes this point another time by saying that every inch of
him has to play. He then introduces the counter perspective that Some guys play with their heads. He
says that this is good because you need to be smart to be the best. However, he says that the most
important thing is that you play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. This

the early beginnings, it was considered as immoral music that is the representative of new decadent

were not part of the regime, their clothes appeared to provoke and mock suits and formal dressing of
the elite. The privileged ones for them were the government, so punk s white leather jackets piped
jeans, extremely short skirt and crazy hairstyles in different colors served the purpose of making them
unique. Punk was not as subtle as hippie or jazz period, punk was an instant punch in the face of the
regime, culture, and dogma. During the period of punk flourishing, the anarchist activity was low, so

  • 2. Essay on Taser Guns Police misconduct and abuse of power has always been an issue in the American Society. As time progresses so does the world around us, in particular, technology advancement plays a major issue in our everyday lives. With the rapid advancement in technology, issues of law enforcement and its power have to be addressed. The issue is, whether problems created when new technologies and the criminal justice system meet a positive one or do the negatives outweigh the positives. The main focus is the use of tasers by law enforcement. The Taser is a hand held conducted energy weapon that uses propelled (i.e., shot) wires to send out or conduct energy that affects the sensory and motor functions of the central nervous system (Paul V. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An incident late Tuesday night in which a UCLA student was stunned at least four times with a Taser has left the UCLA community questioning whether the university police officers use of force was an appropriate response to the situation...A six minute video showed Tabatabainejad audibly screaming in pain as he was stunned several times with a Taser, each time for three to five seconds. He was told repeatedly to stand up and stop fighting, and was told that if he did not do so he would get Tased again. Tabatabainejad was also stunned with the Taser when he was already handcuffed, said Carlos Zaragoza, a third year English and history student who witnessed the incident. (He was) no possible danger to any of the police, Zaragoza said. (He was) getting shocked and Tasered as he was handcuffed (Sara Taylor, Bruin senior staff). For sake of recent news let us look at one more situation that closely ties in to all of our lives pertaining to freedom of speech and press. On September 18th, 2007 a student at University of Florida, asks U.S. Sen. John Kerry questions during a campus forum, once again law enforcement is seen using the taser gun in an inappropriate way. Videos of the Monday night incident, posted on several Web sites and played repeatedly on television news, show University of Florida police officers pulling Meyer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society ... • 3. The Catholic Church During The Middle Ages And Through The... Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in Europe. Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches. Firstly, I will discuss how the Catholic Church had an impact on most prosecutions. Secondly, I will explain how social stereotypes of that period have also influenced with the causes of prosecution of many alleged witches. Thirdly, I will discuss how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7) Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil, leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the public and using it to prosecute those who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Diffusion Of Water Across A Permeable Membrane Essay INTRODUCTION Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane (Raven et al. G 16). In this experiment, dialysis tubing was used to mimic the selectively permeable membrane to show what osmosis does when placed in different solute concentrations. We filled the dialysis tubes with different percentages of solute and placed them in beakers full of another percentage of solute. Through this experiment, I saw what happens when the tube becomes hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. If two solutions have unequal osmotic concentrations, the solution with the higher concentration is hypertonic, and the solution with lower concentration is hypotonic. (Raven et al. 98) When two solutions have the same osmotic concentration, the solutions are isotonic. (Raven et al. 98) My hypothesis was that the bags placed in hypertonic solutions would shrink because the water would leave the bag to go to the higher concentration. The bags placed in isotonic solutions would stay the same weight because the water would be going in and out evenly. The bags placed in hypotonic solutions would swell because water would rush into the cell where the higher concentration was. If bag A shrinks then it is hypertonic. If bag B stays the same, then it is isotonic. If bag C and D swell, then they are hypotonic. METHODS To conduct this experiment we used four pieces of dialysis tubing, four pieces of string, one beaker filled with 10% sucrose and another beaker filled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The City Of New York City Essay Throughout the centuries humans have seen cities rise and fall; each one had its own unique style and charm. Although no city is completely alike, they all have one thing in common: the elements that create them. Without these components, cities would not be successful and they would not foster memorable urban experiences. The main critical elements that are essential when designing a spatially rich urban condition are density, street, hierarchy, urban edge, streetwall and facades, and public/urban space. When a person thinks of New York City, one of the first things that comes to mind is how crowded it is, not only because of the sheer amount of people but because of the plethora of buildings as well. In other words, Manhattan is the perfect representation of density. Cities have large and rapidly growing populations due to the fact that people have been moving to big urban areas in search of opportunities for many years, and cities have an obligation to provide those opportunities for the public. Consequently, the more people there are, the bigger the demand is for residential, commercial, and school buildings. Cities must meet those demands by expanding, which is where density comes in. Without density, a city would look like and act as any other suburb. The density, or structures, of a city can be either planned or unplanned. Spiro Kostof, author of The City Shaped: Urban Patterns and Meanings Through History, states, The first kind is the planned or designed or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This being said, it is disappointing that little to no criticisms are found on this topic. Nathanial Hawthorns, Rappaccinis daughter, is an Allusion of Adam and Eve and therefore an allegory. When approached with a readers responds critique, one is reminded of the biblical story of Adam and Eve, the creation of man. The story of Adam and Eve happens in Genesis chapter 2 and 3. Long story short, god made Adam and eve to look after Eden, he told them to never eat from the tree of knowledge. A serpent, Satan, persuaded eve to eat the fruit of knowledge, and she persuaded Adam to do the same, when god found out they were banned from Eden. If you switch some of the characters and setting you are given a story close to Rappaccinis Daughter. Giovanni would be Adam and Beatrice would be eve, the serpent would be Rappaccini himself and the bush covered in purple flowers represents the tree of knowledge. In this version of the creation of man, everything is manipulated. The serpent, Rappaccini plays god. He changes what god has done into a perversion. Rappaccini, never persuaded Beatrice to smell the flowers, he exposed it to her, making her immune. Giovanni falls for this eve and is now stuck to this poisons sin. If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling hills stained red. Perhaps when my task here was done, I d burn this manor to the ground, too. Starting with those roses. Two approaching presences tapped against the back of my mind, and I snatched up another brush, dipping it in the closest swirl of paint, and lowered the invisible, dark snares I d erected around this room to alert me of any visitors. Inductive reasoning involves a scientist using series of correlated observations to reach or infer a conclusion while deductive reasoning involves predicting a specific result by following existing laws and general concepts that support a conclusion (OpenStax College, Rice University, 2013). So, considering the definition of inductive reasoning and the definition of deductive reasoning and their mode of operations highlighted above, they are apparently different from each other. • 21. The Draft Of The Vietnam Draft Lottery Ariana Stone PLSC 111 4/30/15 The Vietnam Draft Lottery Starting in the 1960s, the Cold War began to create problems for the United States. The United States adopted the Domino Theory, which stated that if one country fell to Communism than other countries in the region would follow. American foreign policy was largely centered around this idea and once Northern and Southern Vietnam fell into conflict, the United States became fearful that Communism would spread throughout Asia. The United States needed to send troops into Vietnam, but many people opposed the war efforts and did not want to fight. This created a collective action problem that the government needed to handle. Citizens wanted to have a military that would protect them and fight for their country, however many people rather free ride and benefit from the military without directly contributing to it. Through the original draft system, white males from high income families were less likely to be drafted then men who came from minority backgrounds. This is because they took steps that would qualify themselves for a deferment and excused them from fighting in the war. The United States Government eventually had to enforce the draft more effectively and create a fair system. This new system, called the Draft Lottery, aimed to fix these problems. The change in conscription regulations serves as a collective action problem in United States History because the original format that citizens were drafted by led the ... Although gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age. How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated. Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak, unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions. The Balance of Power and the Congress of Vienna The Congress of Vienna (1814 1815) No event epitomizes the state of Europe in the wake of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars as well as the Congress of Vienna held between 1814 1815. The culmination of centuries of European political tradition, the Congress was in many ways the last gasp of monarchy in Europe, as the royal houses tried to restore the Europe they once knew and ensure that their way of politics and society would be sustained even in the face of the radical wave of change foreshadowed by the French Revolution. At that time of the Congress Europe was in a state of disarray. The French Revolution that erupted in 1792, Napoleon Bonaparte s rise to power and the subsequent wars had not only proven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once in full swing, the Congress quickly moved into its first phase, the negotiations over Napoleon s Duchy of Warsaw, otherwise known as Poland. The Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth had been partitioned between 1772 to 1795 amongst Hapsburg Austria, Prussia, and Russia. Alexander I, demanding compensation for Russia s efforts against Napoleon pushed for a plan in which the Prussian and Austrian controlled sections of Poland would be combined into a new Kingdom of Poland under Russian control. In exchange for ceding their Polish territories, Prussia would be given the entire kingdom of Saxony, and Austria would be compensated with extensive holdings in northern Italy. (Gulick) This proposition led to the bitterest conflicts at the Congress in what was dubbed the Polish Saxon Crisis. The Coalition quickly broke into two opposing camps with Great Britain and Austria in opposition to the Russian proposition, and Russia and Prussia in support of it. Metternich s reasons for opposing Russian hegemony over Poland were the most pressing. Russian control of Poland meant that the Hapsburg Empire would have to share its north and northeastern borders with Russian soldiery. Likewise, if Prussia were to come into possession of Saxony then the northern perimeter of the Empire would be even more susceptible to invasion, and the already strong political bond ... He used a lot of codes and signs to express his stylish aesthetic violence and sexual implications in his movies. A Clockwork Orange can be considered as one of the best among them. In the opening milk bar scene with the mannequins, the bar is full of sexual imagery. The film continues this motif throughout, combining sex with violence as the social norm. Alex s parents are completely docile and impotent, having no idea of the actual state of world affairs. Strangely, Alex has an affinity for Beethoven, which often plays ever scenes of violence on sex, including rape scenes. The main character Alex is a good way to start. In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here Kubrick and the original novel are at complete odds. Deltoid s dialogue, faithful to the book, depicts Alex as being an inherently evil boy from a good home with good, loving parents . Kubrick s visual direction appropriately reverses this misguided concept to show that abuse during childhood, especially that originating in the home, is what leads human beings to abuse others later in life. In the film, there are a lot of pyramid like shot compositions, Kubrick has frequently placed artificial light sources at the apex and the number of light sources in these shots sometimes parallels the number of people coming from an apex to inflict violence. When Alex and his friends break into the writer s house, it is obvious that there are four unusual light sources in the house, being put side by side. Each of them has a huge illuminated globe on a stand. In the same house, but nearly at the end of the film, Alex is eating a meal, the lights (at the same location as the four unusual light props) behind him gone out. No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many there be that have tried it, stated Herman Melville. As implied, without theme, no novel can be considered mighty or have any depth. Theme is essential in any work of art. Jane Eyre is a novel by Charlotte Brontë that takes the reader through the experiences of Jane Eyre, from childhood to adulthood. Jane is referred to as a ridge of lighted health, alive, glancing, devouring (Wide Sargasso Sea, Chapter 4). Also, in Wide Sargasso Sea, Rochester loves the immense fireflies as he also loves the candles that Antoinette repeatedly puts out around the house. This theme of fire is obvious in two particular cases. One of these cases is when Coulibri is burned and Anette falls into insanity, and the other being when Bertha burns Thornfield down, ultimately killing herself and seriously injuring Rochester (Symbolism in Wide Sargasso Sea). In addition, Rochester, in Wide Sargasso Sea, describes the West Indies as fiery . This shows his dislike of the land he is not familiar with until it increases and reaches the point when he decides to shoot himself. This scene relates to the scene in Jane Eyre when Jane hears Rochester s voice as she walks through the woods. Fire relates Jane and Antoinette in different ways. • 30. Analysis Of The Scarlet Ibis I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death . The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it was written by the author, James Hurst. The story is about a young boy (that goes by Brother in this story) who receives a younger brother by the name of William Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger brother. It is believed that the young boy had a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to his condition, the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story, Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death. Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is one of the most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their own opinion about what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant things within the story that would clue to the fact that something else was responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. • 31. Intellectual Property And Patents In The Smartphone Industry The smartphone industry today is a highly competitive market in which major smartphone manufacturers utilize patents to increase their sphere of influence within the tech wing. Company growth and the bottom line may be the primary focus, but a secondary goal of stagnating competitors through tech control is vital to staying king of the hill. Intellectual property is defined as an invention or work that is the result of creativity. A company may apply for a patent, copyright, or trademark to protect intellectual property. A patent is essentially a limited monopoly in which the patent holder is allotted the exclusive right to make, use, and sell the patented innovation for a limited period of time. Infringement of a patent is the unlawful making, using, or selling of the patented device within the territories of the United States, during the term of the patent. The five primary requirements for patentability are: patentable subject matter, utility, novelty, non obviousness, and enablement. If a patent is infringed, the patent holder may sue for relief in the appropriate Federal court. The patent holder may ask the court for an injunction to preclude the persistent breach and may also ask the court for an award of damages. In such an infringement suit, the defendant may question the validity of the patent, which is then decided by the court. The defendant may also claim that its actions do not constitute infringement.
