Sisterhood Is For Everybody Chapter Summaries
Feminism, a movement with the goal of equality between women and men is often misunderstood
or thought unnecessary. In the book Feminism is for Everybody, the movement of feminism and
why it still exists today is explained. One of the main aspects that keep feminism alive is
sisterhood females bonding together for a like purpose. In chapter three, Sisterhood is Still
Powerful . Bell Hooks uses an anecdote, chronological order, and ethos to give a background on
feminismand inform the audience on what threatens female unity today.
The start of the third chapter begins with an anecdote of the author s experiences with the feminist
movement in college. Her story lays out the scene of what a coeducational college class was like
in the early 70s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A chronologically ordered format gives the audience context of how feminism developed so they
can understand в€’в€’where it stands today. After Hooks discusses the effects of feminism in the
early 70s with the help of an anecdote, she proceeds to write about what happens to the movement
later on. As more women begin to opportunistically lay claim to feminism in the 80s without
undergoing the feminist consciousness raising... (16). In the 80s more divisions between feminists
came up due to differences in class and some walked away from feminism. What happened in the
80s is then connected to present day. Political solidarity between woman which had been the force
putting in place positive change has been and is now consistently undermined and threatened
(17). By giving background information, Hooks is able to explain how sisterhood is still strong
but is endangered by class divisions. Overall, the chapter shows where feminists succeeded and
where it had problems what worked and what did not. The evolution of feminism is explained in a
way which is more easily understood due to its sequential

Summary Of The Journey Of Segregation In College Football...
Charles H. Martin wrote a compelling monograph about the journey of segregation in college
sports. The book showed readers how the color line in college football, specifically in southern
football, reflected the traditions and beliefs of southern society. The reader gets a glance into the
complete segregation of college sports to the complete integration of all college sports. In the
beginning, African Americanstudents could not play sports on all white teams and they could not
go to the same schools at white students or even drink from the same water fountain as white
students. The reader gets to walk through the history of the integration of college sports with Martin
to eventually see full integration. At the beginning of the monograph,

Essay on criminal law esssay
English law has been subject to being described as unprincipled and inconsistent in its approach to
the question of whether the failure to act is a sufficient basis for criminal liability. This is due to a
range of factors an example of which being the collection of convictions passed to defendants who
have been charged with a crime, which did not involve a positive or direct action. In addition for
those who have not been convicted, it is questionable whether the law is unprincipled as it is
unclear about the moral obligationthat individuals have to act and when a moral obligation is a
legal obligation. There is also uncertainty regarding what is a sufficient basis for criminal liability
as each case is different and it is difficult to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lord Diplock stated, I see no rational ground for excluding from conduct capable of giving rise to
criminal liability conduct which consists of failing to take measures that lie within one s powers to
counteract a danger that one has created 3. This statement emphasises that the focus is the danger
created however the crime is damaging property thus the argument being used to prove his guilt
does not quite match the crime as no one beside himself would have been harmed. In fact, ВЈ800 of
damage was done thus maybe a fine would have been more appropriate sanction than a sentence. It
can thus be suggested that the law requires individuals to put right that which goes wrong 4 and in
not doing so, the defendant may have become a victim of the judges morals impacting the case
ultimately suggesting that although there is no written law, individuals are essentially forced into
behaving in a manner which would be considered noble. This also suggest that the law is
unprincipled in its approach to deciding weather the failure to act should result in criminal liability.
The case of R v Stone, R v Dobinson further supports this argument as the defendants have also
been convicted on the failure to act, however, it could be argued that in comparison to Miller, Stone
and Dobinson have no direct cause of the incident. According to Ashworth, there are three

Equilibrium Constant Lab
Determination of an Equilibrium Constant Joseph Denning Group Participants: Maycie Hestand,
Austin Prinkki, Kellen Wright Meeting Time: Friday 10:00 AM TA: Hannah Colmer Date: 26
February 16 Introduction In this lab, the equilibrium constant is determined for the following
reaction between iron cations and thiocyanate anions: Fe3+ (aq) + SCN (aq) в‡Њ FeSCN2+. First
of all, equilibrium is the balance of the macroscopic variables in a reaction; they don t change over
time. The reaction still takes place, but the rates of the forward and backward reactions are equal.1
The equilibrium constant for the reaction in this experiment is K_c=[FeSCN^(2+) ]/([Fe^(3+)

The actual value for the equilibrium constant of this reaction was within the range of 200 250.
Our calculated value was fairly far off, with between 25 56% error. It is clear that the
experimental data has error, as evidenced by the R2 value of .3092. It should be noted that if
results from the fourth, fifth, and sixth addition of 1 mL of Fe(NO3)3 are omitted in Figure 1, the
R2 jumps to .8451 and the equilibrium constant is 238.1, well within the desired

Sweetheart of the Song of Tra Bong as Metaphor
The Vietnam War is a strange and unexplainable event in American history. The controversies
surrounding the American involvement in Vietnam and the need for Vietnam veterans to tell their
stories of the war are prevalent in the post Vietnam culture of America. The stories that will last
forever are those that swirl back and forth across the border between trivia and bedlam, the mad and
the mundane (89). The story of the sweetheart of the Song of Tra Bong explains this quote of the
veteran stories never make exact sense, but they are stories from a war that never quite made exact
sense either. The story of Sweetheart of the Song of Tra Bong, involving a young girl coming to

Fine with me. But you don t know human nature. You don t know Nam (97). This is a story about
the development of human nature and accepting the changes of a rite of passage.
Mary Anne adjusted to the life in Vietnam, as did the soldiers that were there, and as time
progressed she began to enjoy or get a thrill out of being in Vietnam. I mean when we first got
here all of us we were real young and innocent, full of romantic bullshit, but we learned pretty
damn quick. And so did Mary Anne, (97). The learning curve in war is quickened by the fact
that it is a matter of life or death when you are working in a war, and it did not matter who you
were the you quickly learned how to operate in a battle field. Mary Anne did not fit in a first and
did not know or understand her role in the war, and just like the fresh soldiers coming from
America did know or understand their role in the war. As the soldiers, as well as Mary Anne,
begin to realize the realities of the war they move their focus away from their homes in America
and begin to focus on the work that needed to be accomplished in Vietnam. The physical changes
that occur to Mary Anne as she begins to be assimilated into the Vietnam War are like night and
day. She came as your typical American girl, but then becomes a fighting soldier looking and
anticipating ugly war

things he was not supposed to know about. As you read you notice the challenges he has to face in

In the text it states, I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to
hit me or touch me and I do not not know what is going to happen (Haddon 4). Our society does
not act like this towards other people, thus this validates that he is not ordinary. Being irregular
is arduous for him to go out into public, when he got off the train Toby ran onto the tracks and
Christopher went after him. Little did he know a train was coming so a man off the side saved
him and yelled at him for his foolishness. However Christopher did mention what kind of school
he attends, I m the first person to do an A level from my school because it s a special school
(Haddon 56). Haddon revealed that he is divergent from society by stating he goes to a special
school. To conclude, Christopher is special in his own way by his behavior and what school he
attends. Christopher s protected life at home and childhood significantly constrains his ability to
deal with the world around him because his father is deceitful, he tried to get to his mother and he
is unique like others in his school. Christopher s father kept confidential information from him like
executing the neighbors dog and concealing his mother from him. He set out on a journey to obtain

The Importance Of Temperature Control In The Human Body
Temperature control is the body s natural way of warming and cooling its self, allowing it to stay at
one particular temperature (37oC or 98oF) Receptors in the skin detect changes in the external
temperature. They pass this information to the processing centre in the brain Hypothalamus.
Hypothalamus is a processing centre in the brain that controls body temperature and is in charge of
sending out signals to other conductors. It does this by triggering curtain mechanism such as goose
bumps, sweet gland, shivering and automatic responses i.e taking off or putting on clothing when
hot and cold. These automatic mechanism helps the body maintain and control its preferred
temperature, this helps keep the organs, enzymes and cells working at a good speed keeping you
healthy and stable.
Temperature regulation is a vital function in our body that without it our body won t be able to
function and we will die. The temperature regulation of the human body has many ways of cooling
and heating. The hormones from the hypothalamus govern the physiologic functions such as thirst,
hunger, sleep, mood and temperature regulation and a lot more. If one function breaks down they
all will suffer causing massive health issues and even death. Thermoregulatory is a process that
allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. All thermoregulation mechanisms are
designed to return your body to homeostasis (the state of equilibrium). When the external
temperature is to hot the body

Lab Report On Boiling Points
Laura Breuning Lab Report 4
Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown
molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared
spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown
molecules.
Introduction
In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify
unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular
forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what
functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other
intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. The two other factors that affect
boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain (3 Trends
that affect boiling points). Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies,
which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly
tied to certain functional groups (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated
during this lab.
Methods
Part 1: Melting point
First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666
unknown in the capillary test tube approximately enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube.

Flights Of Fancy In Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Flights of Fancy Look at the birds in the sky; they have complete control over where they go and
when they go. Humans can t fly, but that doesn t stop us from trying in stories. The most obvious
example of this would be Superman. Anyone who has ever been a child during and after the Gen
X age, knows who Superman is. A man with no boundaries, no constraints, no limits, just miles of
open, blue sky. As children, we didn t really pay attention as to what it actually meant. It just
looked cool. But, flying has an assortment of meanings in literature. For the most part, those that
are able to take flight are free of any burdens. In other words, flight is freedom. In Superman, they

High mountains with bright blue skies might signify a high point in a character s life, while
selected valleys are often used for the low points in the story. An example of this would be in the
film, Zero Dark Thirty, where American soldiers found in the Korengal Valley. They were
pinned from all angles, taking fire from the enemy. At a point in the movie, everything seemed
hopeless, until they started to gain back control of the hills or high ground. Being blinded by the
intense combat in the film, most viewers wouldn t notice the geographical impact. Geography
can be also used to define a place or character, which is exactly the case in the Harper Lee novel,
To Kill a Mockingbird. The introduction to Radley s house is what Foster would classify under
geography , as the author describes it as a threatening and foreboding place. Naturally, the reader
would automatically assume that anyone who has the courage to live in Radley s house, might take
on the same qualities. We eventually learn that the tenant Boo, is not a demon, and just like his
house, needs fixing up. An even clearer example of what Foster would consider geography, would
be the fantasy film, Monster House. The title gives way to the geographical impact. Nethertheless,
the old house built on a abandoned lot with its wood paneling crumpling away, doesn t have the

Disadvantages Of Induction Cooking
What is Induction Cooking?
An induction plate consists of an electronic generator that transforms the mains frequency into a
high frequency and an induction coil that creates a magnetic field under the glass when a container
whose base is made from a ferromagnetic material is present.
The magnetic waves produced release heat directly to the base of the container. In the absence of
this ferromagnetic material, the phenomenon does not happen and the machine stops automatically.
The glass plate serves solely as a support for the container and only gets warm.
Advantages of Induction
Induction Cooking is Safer
They don t burn. Since heat is created in the pan itself, the induction plates don t get that hot. No
flame means no grease fires, and no gas means no gas leaks.
Also, thanks to it detector function, the plate automatically detects the presence of pans with
ferromagnetic bases, instantly switching the equipment on or off. This makes it a lot more difficult
to burn yourself as you pour your sautГ©ed vegetables onto a serving plate. It makes it easier to get
those vegetables just right, too...
Induction Offers Greater Precision Cooking
Induction allows you to turn the power and heat up and down instantly. Induction cooktops are as
responsive as gas to a turn of the dial, and they ve got another thing going for them, too: more
settings. Some induction hobs have up to 20 settings for setting the exact desired temperature.

On Nuclear Disarmament Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Our challenge is to reconcile, not after the carnage and the mass murder, but instead of the
carnage and the mass murder. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call
to save humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does
not know if we are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the
meantime. The claim made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and
thoroughly expressed. Sagan presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure,
hyperbole, and repetition drawing the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage.
Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a

Rome, Pompey The Great And Julius Caesar
Pompey was among one of the greats in Roman history. He was compared to Julius Caesar,
because of his military strategy and being loved and appreciated by the Roman people. Pompey
was one of the outstanding Generals the Roman Republic had seen and Statesman to the people of
Rome (Encyclopedia of World Biography). He was one of the three pieces of the first Triumvirate
and the Triumvirate was a big defining moment in his life. The Romans who formed of the
Triumvirate was Julius Caesar, Pompey The Great, and Marcus Licinius Crassus. More importantly,
than being a part of Triumvirate he became consul with Crassus for one year. Eventually, he went

A Comparison of A Modest Proposal, Tartuffe, and Candide
Writers use personality traits and events to change the classical ideals. Majority of the writer s
focus is to change people s attitude s. Jonathan Swift, Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere, Francois
Marie Arquet de Voltaire use characterization and plot to challenge the themes of the Neo Classical
period.
In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift challenges the Neo classical period by creating a sense of
instability in their way of thinking. He attacks the society by carelessly endorsing cannibalism in
hopes to help Ireland through their economic crisis. He demonstrates this by humbly proposing and
assuring that a young healthy child, well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious, nourishing, and
wholesome food. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Swift demands the audience to recognize the narrator s purpose having no other motive than the
public good of my country, by advancing our trade, providing for infant s, relieving the poor, and
giving some pleasure to the rich. (Swift 489) The speaker optimistically believes that his idea is
for the best. If Swift did not believe that his idea would not have a positive outcome he would not
have suggested. Regardless of Swift s inhumane suggestion, which is negative, he only tries to
reveal the positive of the situation. This feeling of insecurity is his way of disparaging the Irish and
English government.
In Tartuffe, Moliere s use s plot to defend and oppose characters that symbolize and ridicule
habitual behavior s that was imposed during the neo classical time period. His work, known as a
comedy of manners, consists of flat characters, with few and similar traits, and that always
restore some kind of peace in the end. He down plays society as a whole by creating a
microseism, where everyone in the family has to be obedient, respectful, and mindful of the head
of the home, which is played by the father Orgon. Mariane shows her obedience when she replies
To please you, sir, is what delights me best. (Moliere 324,11) Shortly afterwards, Orgon commands
Mariane to take Tartuffe as her husband even though she is not interested in him at all. Orgon s
command shows how men are dominate

Identifying The Connection Between Families And Identify...
Today genograms are used in education, psychology, and medical settings to identify the
connection between families and identify how members of the family communicate with one
another. There are several types of genograms that are created for many reasons such as ethical,
career, and sexual. These genograms help an individual map out the connection of their contextual
history and developmental framework. My experience of creating a genogram was an amazing

The Noh Theater
Imagine two mimes wearing masks and colorful robes, the image would not be too terribly far off
from a common Noh play. Originating in Japan during the fourteenth century, the Noh Theatre uses
few actors wearing colorful clothing and depictive masks to perform beautiful plays pertaining to
the afterlife. Due to the dark times it came from and the sad way it was performed, NohTheatre is
one of the most dramatic of its time. O Donnell states the origins of Noh start in the Muromachi
period of Japan, which began in 1338 when Takauji overthrew Go Daigo as shogun, the ruler of
Japan. This period lasted from 1338 1573 and is known for its military conflicts and intrigue.
During the first 50 years of this period the north and south were segregated, until the south agreed
under the rule of a single shogun. In those 50 years multiple earthquakes struck Japan, draught and
famine, and two new diseases swept the nation killing thousands. In 1370 Yoshimitsu had taken the
title of shogun, introducing trade with China and forming new social classes. The prosperity did
not last long as the power struggle for shogun began the Onin War in 1467. After its resolution
smaller battles continued between those who wanted power and money, as many shoguns spent
time for their own good instead of governing their people (O Donnell). Using two types of plays,
sarugaku, which was mimicry, and kagura, religious theatre; it is from these dark times that
Kannami and his son Zeami created Noh theatre

1)Identify aspects of competition within the meaning of competition law.
The Harper Review defined competition as the process by which rival businesses strive to
maximise their profits by developing and offering desirable goods and services to consumers on the
most favourable terms . The purpose of competition policy is therefore to protect, enhance and
extend competitive conduct. Competition Law aims to combat certain anti competitive practices that
interfere with the efficiency of markets to the detriment of both consumers and other suppliers.
Competition law is not intended to protect competitors per se (Harper Review); rather, as per
Joseph Schumpeter, competition facilitates creative destruction as old and inefficient economic ...

The Parmalat Australia website suggests that its brand Pauls is the most consumed branded milk
in Australia. Parmalat is a significant producer of UHT milk; however, the majority of this is
exported to the Asia Pacific. UHT milk accounts for less than 10% of total milk sales in
Australia. Fonterra and the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat,
thereby constraining its market power. Lion Pty Ltd is the industry leader with a 32% market
share, however this covers several brands and also includes private label contracts with
Woolworths. The fact that the major suppliers operate nation wide and would be present in each
market (as discussed above), significantly limits Parmalat s ability to exploit its market power. It is
difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment
of its competitors, given that they have similar resources and would be capable of rebuffing these
tactics. Nevertheless, if Parmalat colludes with another supplier, then the combined market share of
the firms would be substantial, thus creating scope for cartel behaviour that is disadvantageous to

Negligence is the most important modern tort: its study should occupy about half the course. It is
important because of the great volume of reported cases and because it is founded on a principle of
wide and general application. This chapter explains the basic structure of the tort and describes the
organisation of the material in subsequent chapters.

2.3
Policy questions
The law of negligence has undergone enormous change and development in the past 50 years.
Mostly this has involved an expansion of liability, but quite often the courts have retreated and cut
back on the extent of liability. This in turn leads to inconsistency and uncertainty. The reasons for
this are complex, but they have in part to do with conflicting policy objectives. The

importance of understanding these policy objectives and the way that they are contributing to the
development of the law was explained in Chapter 1. Here are some of the most important
philosophical and policy issues that you should keep in mind and refer to as you prepare the
material in the next four chapters. The underlying idea in a negligence action is very simple. If the
claimant s injuries result from behaviour that falls short of socially acceptable standards, then there
should be compensation. If they do not, then the victim should bear the loss without compensation.
Since carelessness is not generally criminal, the tort of negligence is the means by which the law
attaches consequences to unacceptable behaviour. Lord Diplock once

Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For...
This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible compression
column for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin flexible compression column
exists as part of a larger load bearing system, which has military and civilian applications in load
assist and injury prevention. This system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage
for a soldier(body armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The
columnserves as the connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in compression.
The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating constraint
buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column, under axial loading,
buckling to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The concept is proven by a
comprehensive experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA model of that system is developed
and studied. Experimental response proved consistent with FEA results. The model accurately
predicts buckling forces, lateral reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and
deflection. The geometric variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the
FEA model, and final tests were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the
lessons learned from the continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The results
generated from the FEA model as well as practical considerations

What Role Does Jutus Play In Jewish Religion
Every December in households all over the world, people of the Jewish faith gather around to
celebrate the joyous holiday of Hanukkah. Yet few realize that the foundations of this celebration
maybe traced on a series of bloody and violent events, which occur more than two thousand years
ago. At that time, Judea was a minor providence under the iron fist of a despotic emperor. His
relentless obsession to diminish and humiliate the Jewish religion would ignite a holy war.
Antiochus persecution would have being resisted by faithful Jews, the once who keep up their
traditions. Besides the religious motives, this opposition was also based on other social reasons:
supporters of Hellenism were mostly members of the wealthy classes: priests and nobles of
Jerusalem, therefore, when Jerusalem became a polis, in other words, a Hellenistic city or a city
state in ancient Greece, citizens no longer depended on being part of the same people through
circumcision practices, or observed the Sabbath and other laws of the Torah, but a criterion of
income and social position was introduced instead. This created a discontent in the middle and
lower class of the people. In these times of religious decay, a great military leader arose to... Show

Suppliers want steady orders and prompt payment, they also want to feel valued by the company

Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them

then Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the

Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with

The Human Impact On Natural Environment
The human impact on natural environment is one of the most pressing issues of contemporary
times and a subject of discussion. The increasing human population and the rising level of
technology both have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are
several environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and
humancauses. Of all the global environmental problems, desertificationis, perhaps, the most
threatening problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert
areas. Today in many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the
world soon we will not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is
human activities and the other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of
desertification is human activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation,
Mismanagement of irrigation, Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and
exploitation of resources etc. All human causes are related to over population. Due to
overpopulationthere is great pressure on land and resources. According to Neo Malthusian,
demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of resources (Malthus, 1798). Earlier
desertification was only a natural formation but day by day humans are becoming responsible for it
because of land mismanagements. One theory argues that resources under common

It seems you either love him or hate him but there s no avoiding him. Adam Sandler has risen to

relying mainly on hype, for Sandler this was actually against him. No one thought he would

Sandler grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was born on September 9th, 1966. While this probably
doesn t come as a surprise, Adam was the class clown throughout high school. What was surprising
is that Adam never realized how useful his sense of humor would be. He got his start in stand up

Sandler began releasing audio tapes of his comedy routines and they were very successful. His
first, They re all gonna laugh at you! earned a Grammy nomination and spent over 100 weeks on
Billboard charts. Although dismissed by many as tasteless, they were a huge success.
After a series of disappointing big screen roles, Sandler finally had some luck. He co scripted the
movie quot;Billy Madison quot; and starred in it as a young man forced to repeat grades 1
through 12 in six months in order to earn his inheritance. The film was widely accepted and did
fairly well.
Sandler soon quit SNL in order to concentrate on movies. Happy Gilmore provided the break he
needed. A surprise success (due largely to a fight sequence with Bob Barker), the film made people
take notice of Adam Sandler. The Wedding Singer proved that Happy Gilmore was not a fluke, and
The Waterboy shocked even the last people when it opened to the tune of 39 million dollars in its

Summary Of The Blue Bouquet
One might think it a good quality to be a trusting person; someone who takes whatever is given to
them as sincere and never looks beyond what they are told. Upon reading The Blue Bouquet this
thought is diminished as the protagonist finds himself in a dangerous situation due to his lack of
awareness and disregard to warnings. In his state of ignorance, symbols are utilized to demonstrate
his lack of knowledge; however, as the story progresses, the change within the protagonist towards
wisdom becomes apparent. This newly gained realization and loss of the initial feeling of security
he possessed, is shown in his actions following an encounter with a criminal. In Paz s short story,
the reader learns the humbling effect of becoming selfaware and how it gears an individual s
transition from innocence to experience.
As the protagonist aimlessly wanders at night through the town streets, the reader is able to pick
up on symbols, as well as foreshadowing that show that the protagonist is not only inexperienced
but on the road to misfortune. When the protagonist decides to go on his walk he is warned that
it is unsafe to do so by the one eyed owner of the boardinghouse; however, he shrugs it off and
decides to go anyway. The unexplained mentioning of the owners missing eye suggests that there
is reasoning for his words and hints towards what is to come if the protagonist disregards his
cautions. His reckless behaviour also indicates that while innocently trusting his surroundings he
feels as if he knows everything. The protagonist then steps outside and is engulfed by the darkness
of night; he is blindly stumbling along the cobblestone street. The author pairs the symbols of
night and darkness to suggest the unknown chaos and danger that the protagonist is on route for.
In addition, blindness is used to suggest his ignorance and limited senses. Lastly, the narrator
describes a white wall that was crumbled in places (p.163) and how he was blinded by such
whiteness. (p.163) The colour white is a sign for innocence hence making the crumbling of the wall
reveal the upcoming loss of the protagonist s innocence through the means of trauma. These
portrayals of ignorance and innocence are not only recognisable by the

Application Of Agropolitan Center Development
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Rural development has been discussed extensively in the literature by various writers from different
disciplines. The universal objective of rural development is to improve the quality of life of rural
people. This is facilitated upon a continuous process by government, non governmental
organizations (NGO) and different actors at the (inter) national, state and local levels. Without
doubt, this involves how best to organize rural area resources and potentials (especially human and
economic potentials) so as to achieve an increase in the overall standard of living of the rural
community dwellers. According to Halwart et, al (2003), the idea is to sustain the growth of rural
economies, improve rural community livelihood and to promote food security through the
improvement of food supply, employment and income. This chapter is divided into four parts. Part
one reviews some approaches to the application of agropolitan center strategy in rural physical
planning in selected third world countries. Part two examines the basic theories that relate to the
spatial organization of human settlements by some well known writers such as Friedman,
Christaller and others. Part three relate these theories to the present research and part four looked at
large scale agriculture and rural development in the context of aquaculture.

Yeats s Interest in Rhythm
The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation,
the moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by
hushing us with an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that
state of perhaps real trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded
in symbols. (W.B. Yeats) What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in
your answer to concentrate on poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in
rhythm was deeply tied to the notion of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship
with the elements. He also had a profound interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one
could transcend material reality in order to reach that world which ran alongside the natural
world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in 1939, lived through an era of immense
scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by and large, to believe in faery was
to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the quieter sounds of nature. In
his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient rhythms of language and
nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced as a young man. The
bewitching beauty of the landscape of Sligo, steeped in folklore, were the true rhythms which
brought on the state of perhaps real trance , allowing him to

Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export BehaviorsпјљDoes
productivity counter the effect of institutional environment?
We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes
in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space
and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firmmodel developed by Mayer and Melitz et
al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export
behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of
institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment
enhances firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms,
but are reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of
financial constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets
the trade enhancing effects of institutional environment.
I. Introduction

effects that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export
behavior and the extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little

It can thus be suggested that the law requires individuals to put right that which goes wrong 4 and in not doing so, the defendant may have become a victim of the judges morals impacting the case ultimately suggesting that although there is no written law, individuals are essentially forced into behaving in a manner which would be considered noble. This also suggest that the law is unprincipled in its approach to deciding weather the failure to act should result in criminal liability. The case of R v Stone, R v Dobinson further supports this argument as the defendants have also been convicted on the failure to act, however, it could be argued that in comparison to Miller, Stone and Dobinson have no direct cause of the incident. Equilibrium Constant Lab Determination of an Equilibrium Constant Joseph Denning Group Participants: Maycie Hestand, Austin Prinkki, Kellen Wright Meeting Time: Friday 10:00 AM TA: Hannah Colmer Date: 26 February 16 Introduction In this lab, the equilibrium constant is determined for the following reaction between iron cations and thiocyanate anions: Fe3+ (aq) + SCN (aq) в‡Њ FeSCN2+. First of all, equilibrium is the balance of the macroscopic variables in a reaction; they don t change over time. The reaction still takes place, but the rates of the forward and backward reactions are equal.1 The equilibrium constant for the reaction in this experiment is K_c=[FeSCN^(2+) ]/([Fe^(3+) ][SCN^ ]) . • 14. The Importance Of Temperature Control In The Human Body Temperature control is the body s natural way of warming and cooling its self, allowing it to stay at one particular temperature (37oC or 98oF) Receptors in the skin detect changes in the external temperature. They pass this information to the processing centre in the brain Hypothalamus. Hypothalamus is a processing centre in the brain that controls body temperature and is in charge of sending out signals to other conductors. It does this by triggering curtain mechanism such as goose bumps, sweet gland, shivering and automatic responses i.e taking off or putting on clothing when hot and cold. These automatic mechanism helps the body maintain and control its preferred temperature, this helps keep the organs, enzymes and cells working at a good speed keeping you healthy and stable. Temperature regulation is a vital function in our body that without it our body won t be able to function and we will die. The temperature regulation of the human body has many ways of cooling and heating. The hormones from the hypothalamus govern the physiologic functions such as thirst, hunger, sleep, mood and temperature regulation and a lot more. If one function breaks down they all will suffer causing massive health issues and even death. Thermoregulatory is a process that allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. All thermoregulation mechanisms are designed to return your body to homeostasis (the state of equilibrium). When the external temperature is to hot the body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Lab Report On Boiling Points Laura Breuning Lab Report 4 Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules. Introduction In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. The two other factors that affect boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain (3 Trends that affect boiling points). Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies, which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly tied to certain functional groups (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated during this lab. Methods Part 1: Melting point First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666 unknown in the capillary test tube approximately enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube. Then place the capillary test ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At a point in the movie, everything seemed hopeless, until they started to gain back control of the hills or high ground. An induction plate consists of an electronic generator that transforms the mains frequency into a high frequency and an induction coil that creates a magnetic field under the glass when a container whose base is made from a ferromagnetic material is present. The glass plate serves solely as a support for the container and only gets warm. Advantages of Induction Induction Cooking is Safer They don t burn. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call to save humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does not know if we are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the meantime. The claim made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and thoroughly expressed. Sagan presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, hyperbole, and repetition drawing the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage. Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a species. He says, A house divided against itself cannot stand. Let me vary it a little: A species divided against itself cannot stand. A planet divided against itself cannot stand. Originating in Japan during the fourteenth century, the Noh Theatre uses few actors wearing colorful clothing and depictive masks to perform beautiful plays pertaining to the afterlife. Due to the dark times it came from and the sad way it was performed, NohTheatre is one of the most dramatic of its time. O Donnell states the origins of Noh start in the Muromachi period of Japan, which began in 1338 when Takauji overthrew Go Daigo as shogun, the ruler of Japan. This period lasted from 1338 1573 and is known for its military conflicts and intrigue. During the first 50 years of this period the north and south were segregated, until the south agreed under the rule of a single shogun. In those 50 years multiple earthquakes struck Japan, draught and famine, and two new diseases swept the nation killing thousands. In 1370 Yoshimitsu had taken the title of shogun, introducing trade with China and forming new social classes. The prosperity did not last long as the power struggle for shogun began the Onin War in 1467. After its resolution smaller battles continued between those who wanted power and money, as many shoguns spent time for their own good instead of governing their people (O Donnell). The Harper Review defined competition as the process by which rival businesses strive to maximise their profits by developing and offering desirable goods and services to consumers on the most favourable terms . The purpose of competition policy is therefore to protect, enhance and extend competitive conduct. Competition Law aims to combat certain anti competitive practices that interfere with the efficiency of markets to the detriment of both consumers and other suppliers. Parmalat is a significant producer of UHT milk; however, the majority of this is exported to the Asia Pacific. UHT milk accounts for less than 10% of total milk sales in Australia. Fonterra and the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat, thereby constraining its market power. Lion Pty Ltd is the industry leader with a 32% market share, however this covers several brands and also includes private label contracts with Woolworths. The fact that the major suppliers operate nation wide and would be present in each market (as discussed above), significantly limits Parmalat s ability to exploit its market power. It is difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment of its competitors, given that they have similar resources and would be capable of rebuffing these tactics. Nevertheless, if Parmalat colludes with another supplier, then the combined market share of the firms would be substantial, thus creating scope for cartel behaviour that is disadvantageous to farmers (primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 6 deals with the liability of two particular categories of defendants: that of occupiers towards those on their premises, and that of employers towards their employees. 2.3 Policy questions The law of negligence has undergone enormous change and development in the past 50 years. Mostly this has involved an expansion of liability, but quite often the courts have retreated and cut back on the extent of liability. This in turn leads to inconsistency and uncertainty. The reasons for this are complex, but they have in part to do with conflicting policy objectives. The 14 University of London External Programme Chapter 2 Negligence: basic principles importance of understanding these policy objectives and the way that they are contributing to the development of the law was explained in Chapter 1. Here are some of the most important philosophical and policy issues that you should keep in mind and refer to as you prepare the material in the next four chapters. The underlying idea in a negligence action is very simple. If the claimant s injuries result from behaviour that falls short of socially acceptable standards, then there should be compensation. If they do not, then the victim should bear the loss without compensation. Since carelessness is not generally criminal, the tort of negligence is the means by which the law attaches consequences to unacceptable behaviour. Lord Diplock once

  • 30. Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For... This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible compression column for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin flexible compression column exists as part of a larger load bearing system, which has military and civilian applications in load assist and injury prevention. This system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage for a soldier(body armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The columnserves as the connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in compression. The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating constraint buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column, under axial loading, buckling to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The concept is proven by a comprehensive experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA model of that system is developed and studied. Experimental response proved consistent with FEA results. The model accurately predicts buckling forces, lateral reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and deflection. The geometric variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the FEA model, and final tests were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the lessons learned from the continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The results generated from the FEA model as well as practical considerations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet few realize that the foundations of this celebration maybe traced on a series of bloody and violent events, which occur more than two thousand years ago. At that time, Judea was a minor providence under the iron fist of a despotic emperor. His relentless obsession to diminish and humiliate the Jewish religion would ignite a holy war. Antiochus persecution would have being resisted by faithful Jews, the once who keep up their traditions. Besides the religious motives, this opposition was also based on other social reasons: supporters of Hellenism were mostly members of the wealthy classes: priests and nobles of Jerusalem, therefore, when Jerusalem became a polis, in other words, a Hellenistic city or a city state in ancient Greece, citizens no longer depended on being part of the same people through circumcision practices, or observed the Sabbath and other laws of the Torah, but a criterion of income and social position was introduced instead. This created a discontent in the middle and lower class of the people. In these times of religious decay, a great military leader arose to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The increasing human population and the rising level of technology both have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are several environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and humancauses. Of all the global environmental problems, desertificationis, perhaps, the most threatening problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert areas. Today in many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the world soon we will not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is human activities and the other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of desertification is human activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation, Mismanagement of irrigation, Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and exploitation of resources etc. All human causes are related to over population. Due to overpopulationthere is great pressure on land and resources. According to Neo Malthusian, demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of resources (Malthus, 1798). • 36. Summary Of The Blue Bouquet One might think it a good quality to be a trusting person; someone who takes whatever is given to them as sincere and never looks beyond what they are told. Upon reading The Blue Bouquet this thought is diminished as the protagonist finds himself in a dangerous situation due to his lack of awareness and disregard to warnings. In his state of ignorance, symbols are utilized to demonstrate his lack of knowledge; however, as the story progresses, the change within the protagonist towards wisdom becomes apparent. This newly gained realization and loss of the initial feeling of security he possessed, is shown in his actions following an encounter with a criminal. In Paz s short story, the reader learns the humbling effect of becoming selfaware and how it gears an individual s transition from innocence to experience. As the protagonist aimlessly wanders at night through the town streets, the reader is able to pick up on symbols, as well as foreshadowing that show that the protagonist is not only inexperienced but on the road to misfortune. When the protagonist decides to go on his walk he is warned that it is unsafe to do so by the one eyed owner of the boardinghouse; however, he shrugs it off and decides to go anyway. The unexplained mentioning of the owners missing eye suggests that there is reasoning for his words and hints towards what is to come if the protagonist disregards his cautions. His reckless behaviour also indicates that while innocently trusting his surroundings he feels as if he knows everything. The protagonist then steps outside and is engulfed by the darkness of night; he is blindly stumbling along the cobblestone street. The author pairs the symbols of night and darkness to suggest the unknown chaos and danger that the protagonist is on route for. In addition, blindness is used to suggest his ignorance and limited senses. Lastly, the narrator describes a white wall that was crumbled in places (p.163) and how he was blinded by such whiteness. (p.163) The colour white is a sign for innocence hence making the crumbling of the wall reveal the upcoming loss of the protagonist s innocence through the means of trauma. The universal objective of rural development is to improve the quality of life of rural people. This is facilitated upon a continuous process by government, non governmental organizations (NGO) and different actors at the (inter) national, state and local levels. Without doubt, this involves how best to organize rural area resources and potentials (especially human and economic potentials) so as to achieve an increase in the overall standard of living of the rural community dwellers. According to Halwart et, al (2003), the idea is to sustain the growth of rural economies, improve rural community livelihood and to promote food security through the improvement of food supply, employment and income. This chapter is divided into four parts. Part one reviews some approaches to the application of agropolitan center strategy in rural physical planning in selected third world countries. Yeats s Interest in Rhythm The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation, the moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by hushing us with an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that state of perhaps real trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded in symbols. (W.B. Yeats) What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in your answer to concentrate on poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in rhythm was deeply tied to the notion of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship with the elements. He also had a profound interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one could transcend material reality in order to reach that world which ran alongside the natural world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in 1939, lived through an era of immense scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by and large, to believe in faery was to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the quieter sounds of nature. In his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient rhythms of language and nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced as a young man.
