Adopting a Single Rate Flat Tax System
The U.S. Should Adopt a Single Rate Flat Tax System
The one topic that has continually been a major topic in the United States is the topic of taxes. It has
been a key component of political campaigns at all levels since the political scene has been of interest
to me. There are two major tax systems that are viable options in the U.S. today. There is the federal
individual income tax system and a single rate flat tax system. The U.S. currently uses the federal
individual income tax system. This type of tax system got its start in 1864 after the American Civil
War ( The New Income Tax, Dunbar). It was the second tax ever used by the U.S. and was the first tax
used during a time of peace. The tax system has continually become ... Show more content on

The Current Tax System, Gjokutaj). Another economic benefit of a single rate flat tax system would
be the distribution of taxes. Although the burden would be switched from higher income brackets to
middle and lower income brackets, the distribution would be more equal with this type of tax.
Currently, taxpayers who are able to shift large portions of their incomes into untaxed forms pay less
in taxes than those with equal incomes who are unable or unwilling to make as much use of tax
preferences. The result is a wide dispersion in tax burdens among those who are equally well off (
Why Not a True Flat Rate Tax, Browning). This concept along with the other economic effects
described, represent what some call a Fair Tax due to the more equal spread of tax liability among all
tax brackets. In a country that prides it self on freedoms and fairness, doesn t it only seem right that
our country s taxes are run through the same ideals. Although the two major systems of taxes have
been described, there is a third system that opposes the first two and is actually viable. It is called a
modified flat tax rate system proposal. In this type of system, the tax base is more like that of the
federal individual income tax system where large amounts of income are exempt. Also, much like the
current system, there are graduated rates for tax brackets, only a fewer volume of those rates ( Why

Queen Isabella
Queen Isabella once said, I will assume the undertaking for my own crown of Castile, and am ready to
pawn my jewels to defray the expenses of it, if the funds in the treasury should be found inadequate.
She may be most famous for funding Christopher Columbus on his expedition to the New World, but
she was so much more than the provider of that trip. She had a complicated childhood and became a
great ruler. Isabella I of Castile, was born April 22, 1451, she was half Spanish and half Portuguese.
Isabella s mother was not cared about even though Isabella s father was of royal status. Since there
was already an heir to the throne, Isabella s half brother, Enrique, no one cared much about Isabella s
birth or baptism. Isabella s childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Alfonso s death Isabella was not sure if she would be able to rule Spain as a woman. Many
people doubted and even her herself doubted. Enrique and Alfonso were planning on arranging a
marriage for Isabella eventually, but Isabella had her interest somewhere else. Living as a woman,
Isabella wanted equality and equity for women. In the book it says, Issues that affected women were
always of particular interest to Isabella, and gender relations also colored the perceptions of people
living in Spain. All three great faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam honored women in certain ways
but were also patriarchal and made women second class citizens in other significant ways. (p 22)
When there was a possibility for Isabella to become queen she wanted to truly impact the way things
in her world ran. Enrique eventually accepted that Isabella as his heir and announced it to the
kingdom. Even though Isabella was often alone there was a time where Enrique sent her to another
town where Isabella was considered a stranger. In the book, Isabella the Warrior Queen it says, It is
just as likely that the marital alliance was Enrique s attempt to remove Isabella from the direct line of
succession in Castile and relocate her to a distant land. (p 47) Luckily, Gonzalo and his nephew were
around which helped her mood. Being surrounded by friends is always helpful after a tragedy, like a

Evaluation of Abercrombie Fitch based on the United Nations Global Compact s Principles In the year
2000, the United Nations developed an initiative to make businesses more socially responsible. It is
called the United Nations Global Compact, or U.N.G.C. for short and it has 10 principles that are
categorized into 4 groups. Human rights, labor practices, the environment, and anti corruption policies
summarize the 10 principles that businesses should follow. Since its inception 15 years ago, more than
12,000 participants from all over the world have agreed to follow the U.N.G.C. s principles
(Participants and Stakeholders). So, where does Abercrombie Fitch fit into all of this? In order to fully
evaluate the business practices of Abercrombie Fitch, or A F for short, we need to see if they are a part
of the U.N.G.C. initiative, and what Abercrombie and Fitch says they are doing versus what they
actually are doing. After pointing out issues with Abercrombie and Fitch s practices for the last 15
years, it s also important to look at the effect these practices are having on the company s bottom line.
Out the 12,000 participants that have joined the U.N.G.C., more than 8000 of them are business
(Participants and Stakeholders). Abercrombie and Fitch is not one of them. Does this mean that
Abercrombie and Fitch does not care about human rights, the environment, or any of the 10 principles

Formal Communication Analysis
Communication is passing information from one place to another, which is something people do every
day in different ways. People communicate in order to be able to express themselves and to connect to
those around them. They communicate at home with family and friends and fellow staff members at
work. There is many different ways of communicating such as non verbally, verbally and whether it is
done formally or informally.
It is important that communication is used in many professions, especially in Nurse Smith s job. This
is because she will have to interact with a variety of people, like her colleagues or the vulnerable

When face to face she would have to consider many different factors. Such as her surroundings, if she
is in a noisy environment and she is talking to an elderly person, she may need to consider speaking
louder for them to hear her. If she is speaking to somebody of a different culture to her she may need
to consider the gestures she uses in case in their culture it is offending. She will also have to consider
the language she uses, if she is talking to a fellow staff member they will understand the use of jargon
whereas a service user may not. Furthermore, the language used is also determined whether she is
speaking verbally or non verbally. If she is dealing with someone with a hearing impairment she may
need to consider getting somebody to translate using sign language, or if they have a sight impairment
she may need to provide them with some brail if she needs them to read something. Her body
language and facial expression is also something she needs to consider when working alongside with
vulnerable people, this is because they need to feel at ease and comfortable and this can be done by
her having a relaxed posture or a smile on her face. The personal space between her and the other
person is also important, she wouldn t want them to feel uncomfortable if she were too close to their
body. Most importantly she will have to listen to who she is speaking to. If she

Comparing Hinduism And Islam
Many people tend to confuse Muslims from Hindus and vice versa. After visiting each place of
worship and examining each person individually, and listening to each person speak so highly about
their religion and culture, you can clearly distinguish between the two. They have many similarities
and differences, which establish a relationship between the two. Although in the past there has been
many disputes over the two, this is due to their dissimilarities. The most common dispute between the
two are because of the gods. Hinduism, think that gods are present in everything and anything while
Islam believes in the holiness of Allah alone. I find it interesting, when it comes to eating certain

The Islamic religions follows five pillars from the prophet. 1. Testament that there is one God and
Muhammad is his messenger; 2. prayer five times daily mainly before sunset and after; 3. fast during
Ramadan you can eat after sunset; 4. charity to the poor at least 2.5% of their overall wealth; 5.
Pilgrimage journey to the holy place in India, the Mosque.
The goal of Hinduism is to break the cycle of rebirth, in attempt to attain salvation. On the other hand,
the goal of the Islamic religion is to fulfill their responsibility of life by following the Quran and
Hadith, and to live life with compassion towards all of Gods creations. When it comes to the place of
worship, both religions differ in regards to statues and pictures. Shiva Vishnu contained many statues
of their gods and it is a common practice to have these images. Although, ISOM does not contain any
drawings, paintings, or statues regarding their gods. God cannot be seen, but sees all. They only have
calligraphy and the temple is angled in such a way that it faces Mecca.
Islam comes from the Arabic root word of Salema which translates to peace, submission, and
obedience. Islam is submission to the will of God and obedience to His rules. The Muslims follow the
Qur an, and traditions of the Holy Last messenger Muhammad, called Sunnah which is found in
prayers or hadiths by the men around him. Hindus follow the Vedas and Gita, Smrti and Sruti are oral

The Problems With College-Entrance Testing Essay
One of the most stressful experiences for a high school senior is the search for the college. So once
these senior students finally develop a plan, why is it that they may not be able to achieve what they
desire? Colleges and universities today are becoming more and more competitive, sometimes to the
point of exclusive. With that it is fair to say that entrance to certain schools may be more difficult and
extensive than the others based on popularity and demand. When this happens, colleges are looking
for the best of the best in academics, the student who will represent and be the best for their
institution. So what is the determining factor for college acceptance for students? The most accurate
answer would be standardized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since it is almost impossible to have any one on one work with students, the students at the low end of
the spectrum will have the most amount of time, if any, to work individually with teachers. This leaves
the advanced students unchallenged with the same tasks that they have already mastered. Teaching to
a test results in multiple disadvantages for students. Educators also know that certain curriculum will
be on these tests, so that is what will be focused on in the classrooms. The curriculum for these tests
limits teachers on what they are allowed to teach as well as anything they can teach outside of the core
curriculum. The core curriculum being taught is what will be found on standardized tests. When
teachers have to stress these core subjects, they are not able to teach any additional material that they
would like to. Students will not have the opportunity to learn about astronomy, for example, because
they are too occupied with memorizing elements of scientific formulas. While it is important that
students have an exceptional knowledge of core curriculum, they should not be limited to just that.
Electives and advanced classes are options for students who already have a decent grasp on core
curriculum and want to broaden their education. However, standards for these advanced classes are
being limited and making educators go over the same curriculum again to improve test scores even
more. For example,

Council Of Vocations In Ayn Rand s Anthem
In a thought provoking dystopian novella, Anthem by Ayn Rand, a man by the name of Equality 7
2521 struggles to survive in a communist society. Despite his vast intelligence, he is given the job of a
street sweeper by his superiors, the Council of Vocations. He uses his knowledge to create an
invention to help society flourish, but ultimately is chastised and flees from his city. In the end, he is a
free, independent man who wishes to help his peers free themselves from the shackles of communist
society. His appointment to street sweeper by the Council is fueled by neither chance nor
incompetence, but rather by obvious calculation. One of the Council s motives is to diminish the
aspirations of others. The Council, in an effort to ensure the government s superiority, seeks to dash
the hopes and dreams of the people, therefore creating loyalty only to the state. If people are allowed
to be creative and aspire to great things, individuality becomes a threat to society, which is against the
idea of communism. Everyone must be equal in order to keep the government in power. We can see

Feelings of terrify if they do not perform well and anxiety of the awaiting punishments are those that
motivate them to act. These feelings are basically created by regular excessive trainings.
Tools, including bull hook, electric pads, metal rods, and drugs, are used simultaneously in the

The Characteristics Of The Kiowa Tribe Of Native Americans
The Kiowa Indians are a tribe of Native Americans. They migrated from western Montana southward
into the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in the 17th and 18th centuries, and finally into the Southern
Plains by the early 19th century. The Kiowa Indians are from Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and
Texas. The Kiowa tribe was forced to move to a reservation in Oklahoma during the 1800 s, and most
Kiowa people are still living in Oklahoma today. They first lived in what is now called Montana. In
the 1700s they moved to the Great Plains. The Kiowa were powerful warriors. They defended their
land from U.S. settlers and troops longer than most other Plains Indian tribes did. The Kiowa Tribe
had unique characteristics that impacted the United States back then.
Things that made the Kiowa Tribe unique were their calendars. The biannual Kiowa Calendar divides
the year into summer and winter. To differentiate the seasons, the calendar keeper used a pictograph of
the Sun dance lodge for summer and perhaps hand game sticks or zohl ahl sticks for winter. It is
commonly believed that the Johausan was the earlier calendar keeper in the Kiowa tribe. After the
death of Johausan in the winter of 1866 1867, other Kiowa men began keeping calendars as well. As
time progressed into the twentieth century, the number of calendars grew as the calendar keepers
began recording for individual communities. Eventually, calendar keeping fell into nonexistence.
The Kiowa saw great importance in the extended

Army Transformation Essay
The Army has transformed several times during its history. Adapting to the operational environment is
a necessity for the force called upon to prosecute its adversaries. The Army must do what is necessary
to protect the U.S. against all enemies, and advance the national interests of the American people. To
accomplish this, anticipation of threats is crucial and victory against its adversaries is an imperative.
The nation relies on the military for strategic level deterrence and expects that it will be decisive in
combat operations. For the military to be successful, it is important that transformation adapt to meet

Likewise, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor caused the U.S. Navy to transform doctrine as well.
Not every example of transformation works in every situation. The German Blitzkrieg worked in
France, where the distance from their lines of support were short. Conversely, this speed driven
technique did not work in Russia where time and distance became an adversary for the Germans.
During the interwar years, many European countries invested much into transforming their militaries
following lessons learned from World War I. France is a prime example of a country that invested into
lessons from the previous war rather than developing a vision for potential future events by spending
billions of dollars increasing its Artillery and on building the Maginot line. As history demonstrates,
this investment would probably have worked fine during the previous war but did not stop an attack
by a German enemy that did transform for the future fight.
Why a Transformation
Though the concept of war has changed little through time, its conduct varies depending upon many
factors, which include but are not limited to demographics, political issues, and technology. To be
successful in combat, an Army must envision and adapt to these concerns. The dilemma, however, to
transformation can be the high cost of training, developing, and implementing the change. Without a
tangible reason for the change or a

Mesmer knew that if he took his idea of animal magnetism to Paris, he would then have more of a

common medical practice was bleeding. Bleeding was the doctor s way of curing a patient s illness or

overdetermined by race, with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a
professor of something called the history of consciousness at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country s black poor, who are
understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she s right in
step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism
prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in
anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn
discussion away from the more crucial issue of class.
If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post modern: a tool for the
analysis of literary and other texts, not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One
of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black
intellectuals and activists of the 1960 s and 70 s, whose Marxist ideals might otherwise make
them seem like relics not of their own day but of the 1930 s. Davis made the news in 1969, when
the Regents of the University of California attempted to bar her from teaching at U.C.L.A.
because she was a member of the Communist Party, and again a year later, when she briefly
became a fugitive after being accused of supplying the brother of George Jackson with the
firearms for his one man raid on a Marin County courthouse. (Jonathan Jackson was killed,
along with three others, in the ensuing shootout. Davis was later apprehended, tried and
acquitted.)
Davis s thesis in Blues Legacies and Black Feminism, in a nutshell, is that Ma Rainey
and Bessie Smith, among other flamboyant women blues singers

Essay On The Second Red Scare
The First Red Scare
A Red Scare is known as the promotion of fear of a potential rise of communism (a political theory
where in society property is owned publically and every single person that works is paid according to
their abilities and needs) or radical leftism (a synonym for farthest left of the left wing politics). The
First Red Scare was mainly about the worker revolution and political radicalism (political principles
focused on altering social structures through revolutionary means). The Red Scare took place in 1919
through 1920.
The Red Scare followed the Bolshevik Russian Revolution of 1917. The Bolshevik Russian

WWII. The Second Red Scare was also known as McCarthyism after the most famous supporter,
Senator Joseph McCarthy.
McCarthyism occurred along side with the increase of the popular fear of communist espionage

In March 1947, the President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9835, which created the
Federal Employees Loyalty Program setting up a political loyalty review boards. They recommended

machiavelli and the prince Essay
Social Life in Medieval and Early Modern Italy
Nicolo Macchiavelli and The Prince
At the end of the 14th century, Italy was still politically organized by city states. Emerging as one of
the most influential writers of the Renaissance, Niccolo Machiavelli was a political analyst, whose
aim was to free italy from foreign rule, as well as to unite and strengthen the Italian city states.

As head of the second chancery, Machiavelli was also soon assigned the further job of secretary to the
Ten of War, the committee responsible for Florence s diplomatic relations. This meant that in addition
to his routine office duties, Machiavelli sometimes traveled abroad to act as spokesman for the Ten.
During the next fourteen years, Machiavelli was sent on numerous diplomatic missions to France,
Switzerland, and Germany. His observations abroad resulted in many of the ideas that form the basis
for the major statements found in his political works. While in France, Machiavelli observed the effect
of having one prince ruling a united country and in 1512 he wrote his most famous treatise The Prince.
Remembering how the French benefitted from having one principality ruled by one prince,
Machiavelli intended The Prince to serve as a guide to centralize Italy under one principality, as well
as how to gain, maintain political power. Most importantly, The Prince suggests how to rule
effectively and what kind of prince is best.
Dedicated to Lorenzo DiMedici, The Prince provides a blueprint for how to take control of other lands
and how to maintain power over them. The Prince is different because Machaivelli avoids purely
theoretical issues and focues on how things actually are, rather than speculating on how they might be.

Positive Role Models
People see them everywhere; on the television, on magazines, and on the internet; celebrities. Since
they are in the media so much, they are constantly influencing society, especially younger audiences.
These celebrities are not positive role models for today s youth. They are not positive role models
because they make people believe dangerous, and untrue information regarding health, appearance is
more important than everything else, and that more money means more respect. Everyday people are
paying attention to celebrity s advice, since they seem to be very successful. They want to listen to
their advice to make their own lives prosperous. However, some of this advice can be more harmful
than beneficial. For example, many celebrities share medical advice that can be damaging. Liz Szabo
writes, Many doctors say they re troubled by stars who cross the line from sharing their stories to
championing questionable or even dangerous medical advice (Szabo). Celebrities are sharing medical
advice that is doing more harm than good. On the contrary, some people will argue that they share
more beneficial advice. Diana Gorgos states, These spokespersons can also prompt people to get

Alcoholism In The Father By Hugh Garner
The Father. By Hugh Garner is a short story involving two characters; and a father and son s troubled
relationship. The story touches on how you can be there and have the responsibilities of being a father
without actually being a father. The dad John Purcell and his son are going to the son s Boy scout
banquet meeting the following night. John grudgingly replies that he will go only for his son since the
banquet only happens once a year. On the way to the meeting, John makes awkward small talk with
the son he barely knows. Proceeding to get to the church he ruins the evening because of the alcohol
he consumes earlier in the night; which causes him to become impaired and unable to make proper
decisions. The story brings up the effects of alcoholism and how it is the object you turn to to help you
through uneventful or stressful situations. It brings up qualities that a good parent does not and should
not have. The fictional protagonist of the short story is John Purcell, he wants a better relationship
with his son and doesn t know how to fix it. John is an alcoholic he doesn t participate in his son s
sports teams or relationships with friends; he barely knows him at all. His son is a member of the local

a Stage 1 organization the operation is considered as a necessary evil . The other functions, if they
have anything to say at all about operations, regard it as holding them back from competing
effectively. The operations function, they would say, is inward looking and at best reactive. It certainly
has very little positive to contribute towards competitive success. It is unlikely even to have developed
its resources so as to be appropriate for the company s competitive position. The best that the function
can hope for is to be ignored. At least when operations are being ignored it is not holding the company
back in any way. Certainly the rest of the organization would not look to operations as the source of
any originality, flair or competitive drive. In effect the operations function is aspiring only to reach the
minimum acceptable standards implied by the rest of the organization. It is trying to be internally

Certainly even when good organizations are let down by their operations function the resulting

Araby Symbolism Essay
In Joyce s Araby , we see a variety of symbolism. The boy who serves as the main character of the
story introduces religious symbolism and imagery all throughout the story. The narrator who I assume
to boy, references many abstract and tangible things from a religious perspective. For this writing
assignment, I will identify four specific places in the text that is associated with religion, explain why
I have this chose to be in reference to religion and lastly I will explain what the religious imagery
reveals as far the boy s character. Early in the text, the boy discusses going to the market with his aunt.
While going to the market, he observes his surroundings and makes several religious connections. He

Throughout the text, he seems to be confused and gets caught between his thoughts for the girl versus
his spiritual thoughts. Specifically for the chalice imagery, I found this to be associated with the boy s
obsession to the girl. The way the chalice is held is the way the boy wishes to hold the girl. I think the
religious imagery of the apple tree is associated with the boy s temptation and loss of innocence for
the girl. The boy has already given in spiritually to the girl by having lust for her, therefore he feels
though he has bitten the forbidden fruit and lost his knowledge; his initial knowledge of knowing
Christ. The boy is willing to risk his spiritual life all for the sake of the girl. For the salver mentioned,
I think the boy associated the salver to religion by the stark image of mixing money in with this.
Money and religion are never good together. The last religious imagery is the description of his setting
which associates his religious experience with his personal life. He has an essential relationship with
Christ and therefore spends a lot of his time in

china that has established her through political leaderships and economic stability of the country.
Political organization in China
Dynasty rise and falls characterized China s ancient political organizations (Kissinger Henry 88). The
dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the Republic of
China government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was hereditary, hence the
name dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the succession for the throne would
occur in the same family line; mainly from father to son. There were some occasions, however, when
a non blood relative would assume the leadership positions. Nevertheless, this was in very rare
instances. This kind of political organization and ruling to some extent might have promoted unity of
the various kingdoms as per the time; although this was not always the case. There are some instances
when the country Kingdom split and later merged again through conquests and war.
The ancient China was characterized by many dynasties (Kissinger Henry 72). The Xia dynasty was
the first. The Shang dynasties succeed the Xia dynasty (1600 1046). Then there was the Zhou
Dynasty. It was followed by the

Russia s legislature approved the forced transfer of certain fields to government controlled firms. In
2006, Shell was forced to transfer an expansion project to Gazprom. That same year, concern over the
possible revocation of the license to the Kovykta gas field and Gazprom s ability to block construction
of a pipeline to China, forced TNK BP to sell its stake in the field. Gazprom purchased the stake for
less than a third of its real value. The Russian government had also been known to both privatize or
nationalize firms and rig auctions in order to favor government controlled corporations. Competitive
Risks The very nature of a joint venture lends itself to competitive risks. Competitive risks include: (1)
opportunistic behavior; (2) misrepresentation of competencies; (3) failures to make resources and
capabilities available; (4) failure to make alliance investments. The TNK BP joint venture must deal
with opportunistic behavior. Labor laws designed to limit the number of foreign nationals in top
positions in natural resource companies are being exploited by TNK BP. The Russian shareholders of
AAR are using the laws to limit the number of foreign managers and specialists working in Russia.
The ultimate goal is to place more Russians into top positions and to use the leverage provided by that
leadership to achieve AAR objectives. The main dispute revolves around whether TNK BP should be

Adrian et al (1934) proved that the regular repeating flash stimulus could induce the electric response

  • 2. Adopting a Single Rate Flat Tax System The U.S. Should Adopt a Single Rate Flat Tax System The one topic that has continually been a major topic in the United States is the topic of taxes. It has been a key component of political campaigns at all levels since the political scene has been of interest to me. There are two major tax systems that are viable options in the U.S. today. There is the federal individual income tax system and a single rate flat tax system. The U.S. currently uses the federal individual income tax system. This type of tax system got its start in 1864 after the American Civil War ( The New Income Tax, Dunbar). It was the second tax ever used by the U.S. and was the first tax used during a time of peace. The tax system has continually become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Current Tax System, Gjokutaj). Another economic benefit of a single rate flat tax system would be the distribution of taxes. Although the burden would be switched from higher income brackets to middle and lower income brackets, the distribution would be more equal with this type of tax. Currently, taxpayers who are able to shift large portions of their incomes into untaxed forms pay less in taxes than those with equal incomes who are unable or unwilling to make as much use of tax preferences. The result is a wide dispersion in tax burdens among those who are equally well off ( Why Not a True Flat Rate Tax, Browning). This concept along with the other economic effects described, represent what some call a Fair Tax due to the more equal spread of tax liability among all tax brackets. In a country that prides it self on freedoms and fairness, doesn t it only seem right that our country s taxes are run through the same ideals. Although the two major systems of taxes have been described, there is a third system that opposes the first two and is actually viable. It is called a modified flat tax rate system proposal. In this type of system, the tax base is more like that of the federal individual income tax system where large amounts of income are exempt. Also, much like the current system, there are graduated rates for tax brackets, only a fewer volume of those rates ( Why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Queen Isabella Queen Isabella once said, I will assume the undertaking for my own crown of Castile, and am ready to pawn my jewels to defray the expenses of it, if the funds in the treasury should be found inadequate. She may be most famous for funding Christopher Columbus on his expedition to the New World, but she was so much more than the provider of that trip. She had a complicated childhood and became a great ruler. Isabella I of Castile, was born April 22, 1451, she was half Spanish and half Portuguese. Isabella s mother was not cared about even though Isabella s father was of royal status. Since there was already an heir to the throne, Isabella s half brother, Enrique, no one cared much about Isabella s birth or baptism. Isabella s childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Alfonso s death Isabella was not sure if she would be able to rule Spain as a woman. Many people doubted and even her herself doubted. Enrique and Alfonso were planning on arranging a marriage for Isabella eventually, but Isabella had her interest somewhere else. Living as a woman, Isabella wanted equality and equity for women. In the book it says, Issues that affected women were always of particular interest to Isabella, and gender relations also colored the perceptions of people living in Spain. All three great faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam honored women in certain ways but were also patriarchal and made women second class citizens in other significant ways. (p 22) When there was a possibility for Isabella to become queen she wanted to truly impact the way things in her world ran. Enrique eventually accepted that Isabella as his heir and announced it to the kingdom. Even though Isabella was often alone there was a time where Enrique sent her to another town where Isabella was considered a stranger. In the book, Isabella the Warrior Queen it says, It is just as likely that the marital alliance was Enrique s attempt to remove Isabella from the direct line of succession in Castile and relocate her to a distant land. (p 47) Luckily, Gonzalo and his nephew were around which helped her mood. Being surrounded by friends is always helpful after a tragedy, like a family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So once these senior students finally develop a plan, why is it that they may not be able to achieve what they desire? Colleges and universities today are becoming more and more competitive, sometimes to the point of exclusive. With that it is fair to say that entrance to certain schools may be more difficult and extensive than the others based on popularity and demand. When this happens, colleges are looking for the best of the best in academics, the student who will represent and be the best for their institution. So what is the determining factor for college acceptance for students? The most accurate answer would be standardized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since it is almost impossible to have any one on one work with students, the students at the low end of the spectrum will have the most amount of time, if any, to work individually with teachers. This leaves the advanced students unchallenged with the same tasks that they have already mastered. Teaching to a test results in multiple disadvantages for students. Educators also know that certain curriculum will be on these tests, so that is what will be focused on in the classrooms. The curriculum for these tests limits teachers on what they are allowed to teach as well as anything they can teach outside of the core curriculum. The core curriculum being taught is what will be found on standardized tests. When teachers have to stress these core subjects, they are not able to teach any additional material that they would like to. Students will not have the opportunity to learn about astronomy, for example, because they are too occupied with memorizing elements of scientific formulas. While it is important that students have an exceptional knowledge of core curriculum, they should not be limited to just that. Electives and advanced classes are options for students who already have a decent grasp on core curriculum and want to broaden their education. However, standards for these advanced classes are being limited and making educators go over the same curriculum again to improve test scores even more. For example, ... They migrated from western Montana southward into the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in the 17th and 18th centuries, and finally into the Southern Plains by the early 19th century. The Kiowa Indians are from Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Kiowa tribe was forced to move to a reservation in Oklahoma during the 1800 s, and most Kiowa people are still living in Oklahoma today. They first lived in what is now called Montana. In the 1700s they moved to the Great Plains. The Kiowa were powerful warriors. They defended their land from U.S. settlers and troops longer than most other Plains Indian tribes did. The Kiowa Tribe had unique characteristics that impacted the United States back then. Things that made the Kiowa Tribe unique were their calendars. The biannual Kiowa Calendar divides the year into summer and winter. To differentiate the seasons, the calendar keeper used a pictograph of the Sun dance lodge for summer and perhaps hand game sticks or zohl ahl sticks for winter. It is commonly believed that the Johausan was the earlier calendar keeper in the Kiowa tribe. After the death of Johausan in the winter of 1866 1867, other Kiowa men began keeping calendars as well. Not every example of transformation works in every situation. The German Blitzkrieg worked in France, where the distance from their lines of support were short. Conversely, this speed driven technique did not work in Russia where time and distance became an adversary for the Germans. During the interwar years, many European countries invested much into transforming their militaries following lessons learned from World War I. France is a prime example of a country that invested into lessons from the previous war rather than developing a vision for potential future events by spending billions of dollars increasing its Artillery and on building the Maginot line. As history demonstrates, this investment would probably have worked fine during the previous war but did not stop an attack by a German enemy that did transform for the future fight. • 20. Blues Boundaries And The Blues Angela Davis Analysis Rebekah Scarborough 15 December 2017 History of the Blues Professor House Did Angela Davis get it wrong? As a consequence of slavery and segregation, Angela Y. Davis contends in Blues Legacies and Black Feminism, her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the blues vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, black social consciousness has been overdetermined by race, with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a professor of something called the history of consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country s black poor, who are understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she s right in step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn discussion away from the more crucial issue of class. If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post modern: a tool for the analysis of literary and other texts, not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black intellectuals and activists of the 1960 s and 70 s, whose Marxist ideals might otherwise make them seem like relics not of their own day but of the 1930 s. The other functions, if they have anything to say at all about operations, regard it as holding them back from competing effectively. The operations function, they would say, is inward looking and at best reactive. It certainly has very little positive to contribute towards competitive success. It is unlikely even to have developed its resources so as to be appropriate for the company s competitive position. The best that the function can hope for is to be ignored. At least when operations are being ignored it is not holding the company back in any way. Certainly the rest of the organization would not look to operations as the source of any originality, flair or competitive drive. In effect the operations function is aspiring only to reach the minimum acceptable standards implied by the rest of the organization. It is trying to be internally neutral , a position it attempts to achieve not by anything positive but by avoiding the bigger mistakes. • 30. Araby Symbolism Essay In Joyce s Araby , we see a variety of symbolism. The boy who serves as the main character of the story introduces religious symbolism and imagery all throughout the story. The narrator who I assume to boy, references many abstract and tangible things from a religious perspective. For this writing assignment, I will identify four specific places in the text that is associated with religion, explain why I have this chose to be in reference to religion and lastly I will explain what the religious imagery reveals as far the boy s character. Early in the text, the boy discusses going to the market with his aunt. While going to the market, he observes his surroundings and makes several religious connections. He imagines himself carrying a chalice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the text, he seems to be confused and gets caught between his thoughts for the girl versus his spiritual thoughts. Specifically for the chalice imagery, I found this to be associated with the boy s obsession to the girl. The way the chalice is held is the way the boy wishes to hold the girl. I think the religious imagery of the apple tree is associated with the boy s temptation and loss of innocence for the girl. The boy has already given in spiritually to the girl by having lust for her, therefore he feels though he has bitten the forbidden fruit and lost his knowledge; his initial knowledge of knowing Christ. The boy is willing to risk his spiritual life all for the sake of the girl. For the salver mentioned, I think the boy associated the salver to religion by the stark image of mixing money in with this. Money and religion are never good together. The last religious imagery is the description of his setting which associates his religious experience with his personal life. He has an essential relationship with Christ and therefore spends a lot of his time in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the Republic of China government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was hereditary, hence the name dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the succession for the throne would occur in the same family line; mainly from father to son. There were some occasions, however, when a non blood relative would assume the leadership positions. Nevertheless, this was in very rare instances. In the midst of unraveling relations with its cooperative partner and undesirable host government practices, ideal strategic conditions are implausible. In order to maximize outcomes under such imperfect circumstances, BP s senior management needs to fully assess the situational risks, understand the dynamics and motivations driving stakeholder behavior, and establish a plan which can appeal to all interested parties. Russia s legislature approved the forced transfer of certain fields to government controlled firms. In 2006, Shell was forced to transfer an expansion project to Gazprom. That same year, concern over the possible revocation of the license to the Kovykta gas field and Gazprom s ability to block construction of a pipeline to China, forced TNK BP to sell its stake in the field. Gazprom purchased the stake for less than a third of its real value. The Russian government had also been known to both privatize or nationalize firms and rig auctions in order to favor government controlled corporations. Competitive Risks The very nature of a joint venture lends itself to competitive risks. Competitive risks include: (1) opportunistic behavior; (2) misrepresentation of competencies; (3) failures to make resources and capabilities available; (4) failure to make alliance investments. The TNK BP joint venture must deal with opportunistic behavior.
