The Role Of Immigrants In Germany
One thing unites Khuê Pham, Özlem Topçu and Alice Bota: They are German citizens and the
children of migrants in a country that has long struggled to define its relationship with foreigners
(Lindsey), these three girls know firsthand what it is like to be a different than everyone around
you. Although they have only ever known Germanyas home themselves, German natives see them
differently because their family did not originate in Germany. This real world example attests to this
country s previous outlook on immigration, sometimes even current outlook. There are many
different factors that can contribute to the decision to migrate, and Germany has been a prime
location for immigrants. Population, economics, political indicators, and cultural perspectives are
some examples of these factors. Most immigrants choose Germany for the job opportunities, and
arrive as guest workers. According to the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees, there are a
few different circumstances one may be allowed to enter Germany as a guest worker. An example
would be Family reunification . There are several indicators that explain why Germany is appealing
to those looking to relocate, and these same indicators can drive migrants away from their
homeland.
There are many different reasons for someone to migrate to a new country, and Germany did not
necessarily accept immigrants when they first started flowing in. Many came due to difficult
situations in their homeland, or immigrants were

The Significance Of A Historical Society
The Montclair Historical Society or the Montclair Historical Center as it will be called in 2017,
is a nonprofit organization promotes preservation, study and appreciation of local history. It was
originally founded in 1965 to save the Israel Crane House, a Federal Revival style landmark
home built by a local entrepreneur in 1796. It was relocated from Glen Ridge Avenue to its
current location on Orange Road. Located next to the Israel Crane house s new location is the
Nathaniel Crane House. Built about 1818, it was donated to MHS in 1973 and together, the two
Crane Houses served the public as a historic house museum, museum shop and space for
demonstrations, lectures and classes interpreting our area s past. As I learned from my classes, the
mission statement of an institution works as a guidance to lead the institution to attain the
communities needs and to bridge the gaps between the societies and the museums. It is noted that
the mission statement of the MontclairHistorical Society is a very inspiring, effective, compelling,
and measurable. Additionally, the vision is inclusive with their mission statement to identify the
future goal of the MHS. The mission of the Montclair Historical Societyis to PRESERVE,
EDUCATE, and SHARE. We PRESERVE our local history through our historical buildings,
artifacts and documents. We EDUCATE the community on local history and its importance through
programs, advocacy and exhibits. We SHARE the stories and history of the various

Political And Economic Theory Is An Often Contentious Subject
Political and economic theory is an often contentious subject as it relates to how much
interference governments should be allowed when it comes to rights and welfare of the public.
One of the most debated topics asks the question is it a part of the government s role to take
wealth away from the rich to give to the poor? John Rawlsand Robert Nozick offer two differing
theories about the role of government in distributing wealth.
John Rawls argues that a just society must have equal rights for all. He defines a society as an
organization of individuals who work together and create a social contract of moral and immoral
actions. The goal of any society is to improve the lives of those who inhabit it, contradicting Nozick
s belief that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second principle is called the difference principle which states that social or economic
inequalities are only just if they help the most disadvantaged members of society. In this portion,
Rawls does agree that material inequality is a necessity to encourage economic competition, but
states that it is only just if it is then used to help those who have been disadvantaged by their social
position. Rawls proposes that the difference principle is the core component of distributive justice
and therefore justifies the redistribution of wealth from rich to poor at the hands of the state.
Rawls develops the idea of an original position as a conception point and a justification for this
theory of distributive justice. In this original position, an individual is standing behind a veil of
ignorance which blocks out social class, economic class, sexuality or natural talents. In this place,
an individual is in the position to make the most basic moral decisions because they face no
external bias. If one knows no place in society, a rational person will make decisions that help
those who are worse off. In the original position, the principles of justice would be agreed to by any
rational human. This position supports the idea that while each person might have a different
background, they should have a fair chance to pursue goals and the equality of opportunity despite

Policies in Relation to Abortion
Policies in Relation to Abortion Before and After the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Case
New Mexico State University
Jennifer Walker
Abstract
The Roe versus Wade Supreme Court Case has had a huge impact on abortion laws in the United
States. Before 1973, abortions were illegal and criminal, with few exceptions. Overnight, the
decision in the case legalized first trimester abortions while leaving the specifications of the other
trimesters up to the states. This case has led to many debates over the value of life and when life
begins whether at conception, independence from mother, or first breath. All of these can be
defined by religion, law, or individual beliefs. Unfortunately, none of the policies before or after
Roe versus Wade have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the number of abortions has definitely increased from after the Roe versus Wade case,
this is likely do to the reporting of abortions rather than the legality of the abortions. Ideological
/Value Perspective Both the value one places on life and the question of when life begins plays a
huge role in the debate over abortion. Though people who are not part of a religion or are not
spiritual have their own beliefs, much of the debate does come from a religious perspective. So
when does human life begin? Some believe it is the moment of conception, others at the time
when the baby can live independently from the mother, and still others believe it is when the
baby takes his/her first breath. This is important because depending on when a person believes a
life is valuable or that a fetus becomes a person, may make an impact on whether or not an
individual is for or against abortion. As stated earlier, religion plays a large role in a person s
beliefs as well. According to Stephens, Jordens, Kerridge, and Ankeny (2010), the Catholic and
Lutheran religions believe life begins at conception and that this life has to right to live. Some
Catholics even believe abortion is homicide. For the Jewish faith, conception is the beginning of
life; however, the mother s already existing life is more important than the fetus. If the mother s life
is at risk, an abortion may be an option. In Islam, the

Private Security And Public Security
There is no doubt that in today s society the need for private security is important. For many years,
it has played a major part of everyday life. Through the years, many businesses have used private
security to protect property and prevent crime. Private security agencies are also held responsible
for protecting many of America s institutions, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and
health facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Additionally, not only does private securityplay an important
role in domestic territory, but internationally. The fact of the matter is that private security in
modern times plays a major role in society. The attacks which took place on September 11, 2001
changed the industry in the years that followed. Secondly, their role within the criminal justice
system is important as they must be able to collaborate with other agencies such as law
enforcement. Lastly, the main service provided by private sectors, guard services, is one of the
most important jobs within the industry. The fact, however, is that private security has played a
major part in all aspect since terrorist attack, a major part with other agencies, and in the services
they provide.
To begin, one must look at what private security is. It is said that many experts do not agree on
what constitutes private security. Due to this there are many different types of definitions. Some of
these differences in definitions can be the focus of a job tasks, the influence of profit, and the

Analysis Of Erasmus s Praise Of Folly
In Erasmus s Praise of Folly, Erasmus discusses how Folly is indebted into her wisdom. Folly,
the daughter of Plutus and Youth, wants to inform all of the great gods that she can bring joy to
everyone. She wanted to build an empire of her own, since there was not one built for her. Many
of the gods during that time had the perception that many women did not know what they were
talking about, and were seen as simple minded. However, Folly has the idea that people will not
be able to create or form any relationship without her power. Since Folly believes that no one
takes her serious, or any of her propositions, she wants to show everyone that life would not be
the same without her. In a sense, Folly is giving herself credit so that everyone can value her
even more. As she is talking about herself, she is giving everyone else the opportunity to see
what kind of person she really is. Erasmus states that I am the one and indeed, the only one
whose divine powers can gladden the hearts of gods and men (9). This quote explains the idea of
Folly proving to everyone that life would not be the same without her. Words such divine powers
and gladden can depict the idea that Folly is going to do whatever it takes to her point across to
the gods and everyone else. As Erasmus explains that Folly is the cause of life for everyone, he
also describes how she is the cause of human interactions. Humans bond so that they can form a
connection with one another. Folly further explains

Turmoil At Tiananmen, And The Tiananmen Square Incident Or...
Turmoil at Tiananmen The Prodemocracy Movement, the Bloody Massacre in Tiananmen
Square, and the Tiananmen Square Incident or Massacre are just a few of the names of the
protests that went wrong that began in April 1989 and came to an upsetting end in June 1989.
The citizens of China had wanted a political form for a long time, but did not know how and
when to start. The protests started when a favored government official died. Shortly after,
Mikhail Gorbachev visited Communist China, and everyone was jealous of the relationship he
had with his people. The protesters went on a hunger strike because they wished they had
leaders like Gorbachev. This gained the support of many people, and eventually there were over
one million people camped out in Tiananmen Square asking for a change in their corrupt
government. The government officials got very angry and send out an army to use against their
own people. A great deal of people died and a ton were injured. Because the media was able to
cover a majority of everything that happened, everyone around the world saw it, and it changed
their thoughts of the Chinese government. The Tiananmen Square Massacre ruined China s
international image throughout the world. Tiananmen Square is located in Beijing, China and it
is also known as the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Kort 9). Built and designed originally in 1651, the
square was enlarged to cover 100 acres. Ever since this expansion, Tiananmen Square is the biggest
public square in the world.

Analysis Of Thee I Sing
Of Thee I Sing Analysis As actors, we are forced to absorb everything around us and express our
views on the world. Of Thee I Sing succeeds as a play that reflects the world around them while
poking fun at it. The play itself was fun, colorful, and interesting. From its high energized actors to
its well choreographed dancing and singing. Of Thee I Sing is a musical that is full of terrific
acting, dancing, staging, and stage directing. Anyone who did not see this production made a
mistake not to see it.
Of Thee I Sing is about John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the love
platform. When he falls in love with the sensible Mary Turner instead of Diana Devereaux, the
beautiful pageant winner selected for him, he gets into political hot water. The main characters of
the play are John P. Wintergreen ( Joseph Edward Herr) a presidential candidate who, is running
his campaign on love. Mary Turner ( Jennifer Totcky) Wintergreens love interest later wife.
Diana Devereaux (Katie Whittermore) contest winner Wintergreens administration chose to be
his wife before he fell in love with Turner. The play ends with the servants wheeling a large bed
into the room, where Mary sits with the babies. Wintergreen leads everyone in proclaiming, Of
Thee I Sing. The acting in Of Thee I Sing was nothing but spectacular. The acting from all of the
actors was believable. The way how they projected their voices was well done and the how they
delivered their lines was well executed. An actor who did these and more was Kyle Laing and Lexi
Nieto. Kyle practically stole every scene he was in. He fully embodied his character. From his
fast dialogue to his witty dialect. His pacing was great, he did not rush through his lines nor did
he slow down. It was well paced. My favorite part of his performance were his facial expressions,
he was very charismatic with the time he had on stage to express himself. Lexi Nieto s
performance was nothing spectacular. Despite being a member of the ensemble, Nieto captivated
my attention every time she was on stage. She made bold acting choices through her hilarious
facial expressions, but still managed to not distract from the story. There was clarity for all

The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good Communication
The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is confusion,
resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there
is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a
communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communicationand rules
for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating
excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits
for the firm and creates a solid foundation.
Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting
benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the
firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the
need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause.
The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any
consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or
constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even
lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true
feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity
clause is the respect

Safe Deposit Box Essay
In the initial stages of claiming the assets, everything was going well until I found out that the
belligerent beneficiary was the new owner of the safe deposit box (the box). As described in the
article Opening the Safe Deposit Box of an Estate, the executor must follow a process to open a
safe deposit box that is part of an estate. So, as executor, I had to carry out the following tasks after
the gruesome discovery:
Call the beneficiary to inform the beneficiary that they own the safe deposit box.
Inform the beneficiary that they must be present in order to open the box.
Instruct the beneficiary to call the bank and set an appointment to open the box.
Since the key wasn t found at the estate, ask the beneficiary about the key.
While on the phone with the belligerent beneficiary, I knew the beneficiary would take this
opportunity to try and extort more property from the estate, or, try to get more involved with the
management of the estate. As the business portion of the call ended, sure enough, the conversation
switched to personal property. The beneficiary felt entitled to more property and didn t hold back
expressing that point. When I denied the request, the beneficiary threatened to sue me. As I ended ...

Buk Masks Research
Buk (Mask)
The buk, or mask, comes from the Mabuiag island in the Torres Strait. The Torres Strait is located
between Papua New Guinea and Australia, and contains hundreds of islands. The mask is made of
turtle shell, wood, fiber, feathers, and shell, and was created in the mid to late 19th century.
Intricate masks and figures made from plates of turtle shell are unique to the people of the Torres
strait. The majority of pieces that come from this area incorporate the use of the turtle shell in
some way. This mask is divided into three registers; the top containing feathers, the middle
containing the face and body of a bird, and the bottom containing a human face. The mask
includes certain decorative aspects that are stitched onto it, such as the curved pieces on the side

How Did Thurgood Marshall Influence Civil Rights
What if segregation was a part of our everyday lives, as common as it is to brush one s teeth.
Thanks to Thurgood Marshall, today s generation will never know the horrors of segregation and
extreme racism. Thurgood Marshall was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, the court s
first African American justice. Marshall experienced segregation growing up, going to exclusively
black schools. When applying to a school that was below his league yet being rejected because of
his color, he made it his mission to seek civil rights. he guided the litigation that destroyed Jim
Crow segregation and crafted a distinctive jurisprudence marked by uncompromising liberalism,
unusual attentiveness to practical considerations beyond the formalities of law, and an
indefatigable willingness to dissent ( THURGOOD MARSHALL 1). Thurgood Marshall heavily

is brutal but understandable, no leader wants their citizens to plan something against them, but
no matter what they will protest somehow. Punishing the citizens to make them brainwashed can
work but if word gets out to the other nations it would look bad and maybe the other nations will
go to war to stop this, just like other nations do to stop communism. Big Brother is not loved, he
is feared because whoever talks bad about him they get vaporized and or vanish. The fear is what
might stop the different citizens from rebelling, they can easily be punished and put to death so
they cannot go against big brother. The Party might even get rid of Big Brother to have more
power or be a fair government. Rebelling will have two sides, worth losing people in the process
or failing all together O Brien tells Winston that all the party cares about is power, but the citizens
can build up the same power and take them down. Near the end O Brien explains that there are

How Did Puck Grow In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Leaders have a responsibility to manage their power carefully. This idea can be seen in A
Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare. Oberon, the king of the fairies, wants the
child that his wife Titania adopts to become his henchman. He interferes in the lives of Hermia,
Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius while trying to get the child, which leads to the lovers puzzlement
and chaos. Although many people believe Puckcauses the confusion in the woods, Oberon actually
initiates the chaos because he decides to get involved with the lovers and gives Puck vague
directions.
Many people think that Puck instigates the confusion in the woods because he applies the flower to
the wrong person. Puck enjoys causing trouble and pranking innocent ... Show more content on

After Oberon decides to apply the flower to Demetrius, he tells Puck, A sweet Athenian lady is in
love with a disdainful youth. Anoint his eyes... Thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments
he hath on. II.i.268 272. Because Lysander and Hermia run away to the woods and sleep apart
from each other, Puck follows the directions inaccurately. Oberon should have realized that
multiple Athenian men could travel through the woods simultaneously. Lysander wears Athenian
clothes similar to Demetrius , and Puck finds Lysander first. Then, when Oberon finds out Puck
applied the flower to Lysander, he gives the flower to Demetrius without removing the potion
from Lysander. He tells Puck, I ll charm [Demetrius ] eyes against [Helena] do appear. III.ii.101.
Since Demetrius also falls in love with Helena, a serious argument between the lovers takes place
about who loves who. This whole mix up between the lovers occurs because of Oberon s mistake in
giving vague instructions and his attempt to fix the

Daniel Orozco Orientation Summary
The workplace serves as an environment that dehumanizes the employees that make up its
community and expels anyone who opposes its practices. This statement proposes that the
workplace in Daniel Orozco s Orientation is very black and white and hosts very few shades of
grey. The employees are trained to follow a specific set of rules and regulations that will ultimately
make the workplace an almost robotic and emotionless environment. Although a community is
present in the workplace, the personal lives of the employees must not be seen; for fear that it may
interfere with the job at hand that must be done at the end of the monotonous eight hour work day.

For instance, If you make an emergency phone call without asking, you may be let go. (1061).
Orozco shows how even the most minor offense could lead to your impending unemployment.
This is another way of showing how the typical workplace is so micromanaged that it even
further dehumanizes the employees because they can be replaced easily. Gwendolyn Stich is a
perfect example of how the typical workplace environment only looks upon the merit of her
work but does not look at her as a human being. The narrator explains that the employees have
found Gwendolyn crying in the stairwell of the office and even goes as far as saying, She does
not let any of this interfere with her work. If it interfered with her work, she might have to be let
go. (1064). The language used by the narrator, especially when saying that the employees would
be let go seems very nonchalant and generalized, insinuating that firing employees is just another
practice of the typical work day. Normalizing an act like firing an employee, shows that the
authority in the workplace does not necessarily care about the well being of the employees but only
of the work they

Languages and Dialects of Spain
Spain: Languages and Dialects
With a population of approximately 45 million Spaniards and 3.5 million immigrants, Spain is a
country of contrasts where the richness of its culture blends it up with the variety of languages and
dialects used. Being one of the largest economies worldwide, and the second largest country in
Europe, Spain is a very appealing destination for tourists as well as for immigrants from around the
globe. Almost all Spaniards are used to speaking at least two different languages, but protecting and
preserving that right has not been easy for them; Spaniards have had to struggle with war,
ignorance, criticism and the governments, in order to preserve and defend what identifies them, and

Thanks to those efforts Catalans can be proud to acknowledge that their languages and dialects are
the most well kept, normalized and preserved in the country, their continuous fight since the very
end of war and their pride about using their language has giving them the courage to embrace and
protect both, their language and their identity in such way that, in Catalonia, Castilian is limited to
those who are foreigners and Catalan to natives.
Unfortunately, a very different thing has happened in Galicia and Basque Country; since, by the
end of war, the governments of both regions were more concerned about political affairs than
preserving languages. In Basque Country, the reason for these lack of protectionism towards
language was the persecution Basques suffer during the Civil War, they were accused of
terrorism whenever they spoke in their own language; they were hunted and killed for this
reason, and all of these actions made them a little afraid of protecting language even years after
the end of war. Something similar happened in Galicia, where there were no efforts to maintain
language after the war. It was years later that governments started to make efforts to preserve and
rescue the language and to normalize it and make it mandatory in each school around the region,
but the accurate and pure versions of them got lost with time and what new generations speak

Symbols In The Chinese Language
The language I decided to research is Chinese. I always found the language to be very interesting
due to the fact when it s written they use symbols. Granted they are not the only language that s
written using symbols, but they are the only language that uses what I would think to be considered
lines to form letters and words. The Chinese languageis one of the oldest written language in the
world with six thousand years of history. Chinese characters have been found in turtle shells
going as far back as the Shang dynasty. Proving the language has been around for more than three
thousand years and that s a long time. It also makes me wonder how long and how much work
goes into learning how to write, speak, and pronounce the words that form to create the Chinese
alphabet. The Chinese written language uses symbols and characters to represent each word of the
vocabulary. Most of the characters are written versions of spoken sounds that have meaning. A
large dictionary contains 40,000 characters. You must be able to say 2,000 3,000 characters to read
a newspaper. That alone has me disbelief as to how they can memorize so much, then again it may
be simple for people who have been doing it since birth it also honestly had me in shock as I thought
of how much information that is to hold / memorize. Although the written symbols have changed
over time the language along with the symbols and characters have remained the same. Although

This Blessed House Analysis
Performance in This Blessed House Jhumpa Lahiri s short story This Blessed House is one of
many stories in her Pulitzer Prize winning collection Interpreter of Maladies and follows a
newlywed Indian American couple, Sanjeev and Twinkle, settling into their first suburban home
together. As Twinkle begins to find and admire Christian objects scattered around the house
,
Sanjeev wants to throw them all away, underscoring that Sanjeev deeply cares about how they
will look if they display these Christian symbols as Hindus, while Twinkle simply wants to have
fun in presenting her discoveries. More deeply rooted in the situation is that Sanjeev wants to
look good in front of his coworkers; he does not get along with Twinkle; and the house he is
supposed to show off in an upcoming housewarming party only troubles him with the Christian
objects. Sanjeev s earlier phone calls with his mother put these three variables of work, spouse,
and home together as a formula, when she says that because he has enough money in the bank,
he needs a wife to look after and love, and that his money is supposed to go toward raising a
family (Lahiri 148). Sanjeev is taught to perform this role of success, and despite it not making
him truly happy, his continual pursuit of it emphasizes that he is attempting to perform a fixed role
that he does not fit into well. Sanjeev s actions and mentality in This Blessed House reflect upon

Kardashian Consumer Culture Essay
The society in which people live today is, in large part, primarily engrossed in both the quantity
and quality of things in the average person s possession. This display of possessions is
perpetuated through our culture in every way seemingly possible, whether it be on television,
reality shows, magazines, movies, social media and more. Take the Kardashians, for example, as
a source of opulent wealth being exposed to society in a way that while may seem glorious and
desirable, does not equally coincide with their happiness with that same lifestyle. Several
Kardashian s have struggled with depression, body image problems and more, likely as a result of
living this flashy lifestyle in front of the public eye. According to researchers, this two way
misconception that the amount of items a person may possess equivalates to their self worth, and
internal value is a grand problem in common day society. It is arguable that the two variables,
materialistism and unhappiness, directly correlate to one another and have been proven to do so in
various experiments. This derives from an unnatural process in which a humanstrays from a healthy
path benefiting them with wholesomeness and satisfaction, rather, and placing them on a path of
authentic material happiness that they believe defines their net worth. The damaging... Show more

Discovery Of Naledi Research Paper
In the historical year of 2013, two amateur cave explorers, Rick Hunter and Steven Tucker,
discovered a primitive human like species in a cave in South Africa. After two years, Lee Berger,
a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa was tipped off by
the cavers, who had explored the deep cave to find multiple fossils. Berger and his team soon
identified the multitude of fossils as a primitive human. This revolutionary discovery has added an
ancestor to our evolutionary tree. This specie, named naledi, has been classified into the genus,
Homo, which includes modern humans. However, due to lack of information, this specie is thought
to have three possible ages of existence. One, an early divergence of the specie Australopithecus

On the other hand, its skull shows progressive shape, small teeth, long legs, and modern human
looking feet. The new specie was discovered in a chamber of the Rising Star cave, 30 meters
underground, in a burial site. The fossils were found unharmed and the environment had no sign
of a calamity. This leads scientists to believe that these early humans had intentionally taken
thought into the burial of their dead. Until the moment of discovery of naledi, I would have
probably said to you that it was our defining character. The idea of burial of the dead or ritualized
body disposal is something utterly uniquely human, says Berger. This idea of another people
intentionally burying its dead has left many scientists to question human identity. After all, if this
specie was found after many years proving it has been involved in burial rituals before, what
others may we find in the future. It absolutely questions what makes us human. And I don t think
we know anymore what does, Berger states. In other words, how many more secrets are out there .

Performance Appraisals and Employee Performance
Performance Appraisals and Employee Performance: Performance appraisals are constantly
viewed as burdensome tasks that employers would like to avoid despite understanding the
significance of evaluating the performance of employees. This consideration is further fueled in
organizations and companies with minimal pay raises and bonuses as well as those with
downsized compensations. Organizations that take similar initiatives to deal with current
economic challenges also experience difficulties in task of conducting performance appraisals of
employees. However, there is need to ensure that the performance appraisal process remains a
priority for the employers through focusing on its advantages and effect on increasing employee
performance. While the effectiveness of performance appraisals is influenced by various problem
areas, effective performance appraisals enhance employee performance. Performance Appraisal
Process: The process of conducting performance appraisals plays a crucial role in helping
employee to meet job related objectives. This process can largely be conducted through informal
and formal settings but is mainly dependent on communications. Actually, the effectiveness of the
performance appraisal process is dependent on communications to a large extent. The informal
performance appraisal process is carried out in the daily operations of an organization since
informal discussions take place and offer immediate performance feedback (Richman, 2011). On the

The Not So Glamorous Reality of Best in Show Dogs
For over a century breeders have shown off their wonderful dogs in large scale dog shows such as
Westminster or Crufts. It is a great tradition and celebration for most and an event anticipated by
many dog lovers. Breeders from all over the nation come to compete with their champion show
dogs, in which they have invested a great amount of time, money, and energy. Every competitor
dreams of ultimately winning the glorious title of best in show.
However, behind the glitz and glamour of the dog shows there is a dark reality for these pedigree
dogs. The majority of the dogs in shows suffer from a variety of genetic diseases, disorders and
deformities that are specific to their breed. The Kennel Clubs that manage the dog shows have a
book of breed standards that dog breeders follow religiously. The problem with these breed
standards is the fact these standards are only based off of what they believe would be the best
features for the dog s overall appearance. These do not take the general health of the animal into
consideration. On the contrary, some of these standards actually make genetic defects more
desirable in a purebred dog because the physical features in these particular standards are an
indicator of deformity. For example, the standarsd set for the Rhodesian Rigdebackinclude the
requirement for the characteristic ridge on their back, which is a line of hair going in the opposite
direction of the rest of the dog s coat. Although it is thought that this is the correct

means I will have to be straightforward dealing with my academics, personal life at Xavier, and

determine whom I will become and what I am going to do with my life.
Trust at Xavier is a very important issue. In order for Xavier to trust me I have to have trust in
others and myself. Xavier has to trust me from the day I enter their school until the day of
graduate. Honesty is the key to trust for it will set me free from cheating, lying ,
Ganier 2 and being immoral. Also, I have to choose whom I become friends with because if I don
t trust them I will get into bad situations. I should have a close relationship with Xavier and myself
so I can become trustful.
Xavier s Honor System will give me an opportunity to endure in many experiences. Even if the
experiences are good or bad it will give me a chance to learn from my mistakes. By experiencing
things I can learn more about myself. In college I have the freedom to do anything I want, but I
shouldn t take it lightly. The honor code will teach me not to have too much freedom and how to
manage my time.
Life at Xavier is going to be fun, but I have to be mature. Maturity is also a goal I must reach
while attending Xavier. I have to be mature about things in order to be treated as a young adult.

Gap Project
Title In our bridging the gap project, our goal was to build a bridge to get all 3 ping pong balls
from point A (a lower platform) to point B (a higher platform). We were unsuccessful because
we only got one ball into the cup. We only got one ball to the other side because our
measurements were incorrect, because our paper tunnel wasn t wide enough for the balls to go

the ping pong ball couldn t go through. Also, we should ve made the straws inside of the tube

The Rejection-Abuse Cycle
Psychology Domestic abuse often follows a certain pattern and that pattern is an infinite vicious
cycle. There are two types of abuse cycle. The name given for the first one this merciless cycle is
The Rejection Abuse Cycle (Brown, James, Taylor, 2010, p.280 307), which can be related to
social norms. The pattern is separated into four steps; (1) rejection, (2) threat to self, (3) defence
against threat, (4) abuse. Rejection happens when the man becomes aware of his partner is
rejecting him. Therefore, it triggers the man s previous experience of being rejected. After feeling
rejected, the man will sense a threat to his ego, evoking shame because social norms does not
allow men to be rejected by a woman (threat against self). To protect... Show more content on

PTSD is generally separated into four types; intrusive memories, avoidance, negative changes in
thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. First, intrusive memories
happens when the woman relives the traumatic event. On a long term effect, women will be
scared to get into a relationship or are afraid because they do not want the abuse to happen again.
Second, avoidance is when the woman does not want to go back to places or do activities they
did with their abuser because it reminds them of the abuse. On a long term effect, women will
prefer to stay home, but that will only lead to depression and having suicidal thoughts. Third, is

However, it did not stop there it continued with Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon creating the first
practical intelligence test battery, which assessed higher level cognitive skills and produced
substantial correlations with measures of school achievement. (NYASP 2012) The development of
group standardized tests was mainly influenced by World War 1. This development of individual
ability and achievement tests assisted in defining the primary roles and functions of the first school
psychologists. These tests were used in differentiating students with different abilities and
achievement levels. They became the main instruments used by psychologists in school or
educational settings. It wasn t until 1945 that the American Psychological Association (APA)
classified School Psychologyas a specialty.
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) was then formed in 1969 allowing the
profession a more secure establishment. It was during the 1980 s when the roles and functions of
school psychologists changed from assessment and placement intensive to preferential assessment,
interventions, and at least secondary prevention for at risk groups. (NYASP 2012) Relatively, these

Commentary On The Secret Of Bees
While reading the entertaining commentary on The secret of bees, my opinions were questioned
more than once. Several of the statements I completely agreed with, while others I disagreed
strongly. The first statement that came to my attention was that If I were a South Carolina
resident, I would be unhappy since the author s depiction of the state was unflattering. This is
true, Sue Monk Kidd did not persuaded me to visit. However, I doubt that many would be
unhappy. The book took place over 50 years ago and numerous conditions have changed.
However, heavy racism is alive in the South today, and if residents and readers realized what
racism actually is, maybe it would encourage them to change their ways. I wasn t surprised that our
Catholic school assigned us this novel, even though August worships a different religion. The
Secret Life of Bees has won numerous awards and is well loved. Even, though it... Show more

The writer of the commentary wrote that it didn t make much sense for black parents to name
their child after a president that was pro slavery. Blacks weren t educated as equally as whites,
and maybe they just admired the name Zachary and was just a coincidence. I thought that that
the statement about May overreacting on Zach being arrested. It was narrow minded because
the justice system was different 50 years ago. It has been shown in the book that even with the
most minor offenses, blacks receive more extreme treatment, while whites can beat someone
and walk away scot free. Even though Zach didn t break the law, the police didn t care that he
was innocent. I disagree on how T. Ray is 100% evil. He is extremely misguided, clueless on
how to raise a child, in grieving, and is reminded of the women he loves every time he looks at his
daughter. Although most of the things he did were inexcusable, we don t receive any background
on T. Ray other than that he was evil. I feel that talking about his part would deepen his

Racism In The American Dream
Racism thrives on an individual s ability to dehumanize another. Too make them feel as if you
are not anyone, worthless, you are not worth you (Rankin, 139). The reality is that some view
you as not worth the same dignity and respect as everyone else simply by virtue of the color of
your skin. That it is acceptable to be forced into the center of attention only to receive micro
aggressions against you simply for existing. That it is acceptable to not be recognized, to be
brushed aside, to be perceived as not worthy enough for any form of positive attention. To see the
terrible truth of life that one cannot will themselves to escape on their own (Letter to My Son).
Collectively, as a society, we must commit to change in order to allow everyone to achieve the so
called American dream .
The dream that allows individuals to be made to feel most colored when they are thrown against
a sharp white background (Rankin, 53). In which many suddenly find themselves in a state of
hypervisibility where minorities are subtly or unknowingly degraded. The woman in my story
did not know her post she was shared online would be sent in my group chat only to be mocked.
This family saw themselves in a safe space in this group chat as I had never heard them say such
divisive remarks in public. It was the family s way of confirming and supporting each other s racist
ideals, furthering racism in their hometown. The man in the couple s photo lived in a
predominantly white community, a

Fountain Valley Research Paper
City of Fountain Valley The common public recreation and leisure service is city provides
programs and activities to the residents. In this semester, one of my school assignments in
Recreation 225 course was making program guidelines. While I was doing an assignment, I
researched fifteen city activities, that city recreation center is provided to residents, from three
different cities. Interestingly cities are afforded unique classes to residents like fashion makeup
class, dog obedience training class, CPR class, intro to smartphone for seniors, and etc. I wanted
to know how city activities and programs work, and how many people are responsible for a
programing bunch of activities. Therefore, I visited a recreation center in... Show more content on

I think providing opportunities to socialize and have adventures are a great strength of the
recreation center, because residents could easily participate new activities with moderate price and
near their houses. Christie graduated CSULB with Recreation major, but did not get any
certification to become a recreation service supervisor at the city of Fountain Valley. When she was
little, local parks had summer programs and socialized with with kids a lot. She wanted to give
similar opportunities to current children, therefore, she put more attention into kids programs like
dancing class, football program, baseball class and etc. City of Fountain Valley is providing various
sports, education, arts, and health programs from youth to seniors. Christie said she loves working
with youth and activities that she could learn new adventures. Currently, contracted classes, which
is hiring companies, are booming because those are more efficient and cheaper. Usually, companies
provide basketball, softball, and other classes. In addition, intergenerational program is a hot trend.
Through intergenerational program, parents are remembering their kids moment, and spending
time with their children. Intergenerational program levels are the entry levels, so both generations
could learn easily and enjoy their family time. It was a great experience to know that city

Juliet Important Quotes
Significant quotes:
She hath not seen the change of fourteen years
Why this is important: This is exaggerating the fact that Juliet is very young and inexperienced.
This shows that their powerful and passionate love might be a little dramatic and just the fact it is
their first love and maybe they aren t mature enough for this level of love yet.
My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious
birth of love it is to me, That I must love a loathed enemy.
Why this is important: This is important because it shows the whole tragedy and irony of this
whole story. Of course her first love has to be with her enemy family. And of course they must be
so deeply in love.
Figurative language:
1.Metaphor: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metaphor: In a house of tears. This is comparing to a house full of tears after Tybalt has died,
because the family took it incredibly hard. Why this is important: For one, they have no idea that
Juliet will be pronounced as dead and then it really will be a house of tears. For another, it shows
Paris s character and the fact he cares very little for Juliet and her families pain after this tragedy.
2.Verbal Irony: I will confess to you that I love him. Juliet does not at all mean these words
because she loves Romeo, not Paris. Why this is important: This affects the whole play because
she is lying to her mother so she can sneakily fake her own death and run away with Romeo. She is
also giving up loyalty to her family for her love.
3.Metaphor: Compass of my wits. This is comparing his wits to that of a compass, with many
directions, saying he has great wit. Why it is important: Again, it shows that Paris is not at all
right for Juliet because he is significantly full of himself and kind of a jerk. Yet, they would rather
she be with him than a Montague who treats her with love and respect.
4.Personification: This bloody knife shall play the umpire. bringing the knife to life, saying it calls
the shots instead of its wielder. Why this is important: Not taking responsibility for his own

Perceptions And Perceptions Of Consumer Behavior Essay
In attitude behaviour relationships, the Theory of Reasoned Action states that consumer behaviours
are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the consumers perception
(Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). With regards to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude
behaviour relationship could manipulate the perceptionof consumer (see table 2 for perceptions and
explanations), for instance, perceived deception (Newell et al., 1998), perceived scepticism
(Albayrak et al., 2011), perceived inconsistency (Gallicano, 2011), perceived distrust, and/or
perceived risk (Chen Chang, 2013). Consumers motivations for purchasing green products differ
and may even be contradictory (Cleveland, Kalamas, Laroche, 2005). However, to some degree, the
motivations are thought to influence consumer purchasing behaviour and perception (Albayrak et
al., 2011).
If the consumer s negative perceptions of falsely claimed green products are correlated, it
corresponds to Oliver s (1980) Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory, as well as Fishbein s Multi
attribute Model which also employs three components of attitude. Firstly, in Fishbein s Multi
attribute Model are salient beliefs , referencing the opinions an individual may acquire during the
evaluation of goods or services. Second, are object attribute linkages , these are a gauge of the
possibility of significance toward a specific attribute that is related to the object in question. The
third component is

Blood On The Forge Analysis
Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately
Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge
William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of
systematic exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and
Melody, migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As
they begin to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly
conforms to the reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating,
acclimating to regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities
and close family connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits
as the south. Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation
that occurred in both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of
their migration from a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately,
unfamiliar environment along with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning
economical and social consequences, permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and
physically. Where there was great potential for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a
contrasting reality of misery and permanent damage.
Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation
that were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They
were bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway
ties a few key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of
transportation. To put in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose
of serving as slaves, the transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway
describes this scene. Warm urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves
just as the Africans had no other option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark
imagery of the

The Role Of Immigrants In Germany One thing unites KhuГЄ Pham, Г–zlem TopГ§u and Alice Bota: They are German citizens and the children of migrants in a country that has long struggled to define its relationship with foreigners (Lindsey), these three girls know firsthand what it is like to be a different than everyone around you. Although they have only ever known Germanyas home themselves, German natives see them differently because their family did not originate in Germany. This real world example attests to this country s previous outlook on immigration, sometimes even current outlook. There are many different factors that can contribute to the decision to migrate, and Germany has been a prime location for immigrants. Population, economics, political indicators, and cultural perspectives are some examples of these factors. Most immigrants choose Germany for the job opportunities, and arrive as guest workers. According to the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees, there are a few different circumstances one may be allowed to enter Germany as a guest worker. An example would be Family reunification . There are several indicators that explain why Germany is appealing to those looking to relocate, and these same indicators can drive migrants away from their homeland. • 4. The Significance Of A Historical Society The Montclair Historical Society or the Montclair Historical Center as it will be called in 2017, is a nonprofit organization promotes preservation, study and appreciation of local history. It was originally founded in 1965 to save the Israel Crane House, a Federal Revival style landmark home built by a local entrepreneur in 1796. It was relocated from Glen Ridge Avenue to its current location on Orange Road. Located next to the Israel Crane house s new location is the Nathaniel Crane House. Built about 1818, it was donated to MHS in 1973 and together, the two Crane Houses served the public as a historic house museum, museum shop and space for demonstrations, lectures and classes interpreting our area s past. As I learned from my classes, the mission statement of an institution works as a guidance to lead the institution to attain the communities needs and to bridge the gaps between the societies and the museums. It is noted that the mission statement of the MontclairHistorical Society is a very inspiring, effective, compelling, and measurable. Additionally, the vision is inclusive with their mission statement to identify the future goal of the MHS. The mission of the Montclair Historical Societyis to PRESERVE, EDUCATE, and SHARE. • 5. Political And Economic Theory Is An Often Contentious Subject Political and economic theory is an often contentious subject as it relates to how much interference governments should be allowed when it comes to rights and welfare of the public. One of the most debated topics asks the question is it a part of the government s role to take wealth away from the rich to give to the poor? John Rawlsand Robert Nozick offer two differing theories about the role of government in distributing wealth. John Rawls argues that a just society must have equal rights for all. He defines a society as an organization of individuals who work together and create a social contract of moral and immoral actions. The goal of any society is to improve the lives of those who inhabit it, contradicting Nozick s belief that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second principle is called the difference principle which states that social or economic inequalities are only just if they help the most disadvantaged members of society. In this portion, Rawls does agree that material inequality is a necessity to encourage economic competition, but states that it is only just if it is then used to help those who have been disadvantaged by their social position. Rawls proposes that the difference principle is the core component of distributive justice and therefore justifies the redistribution of wealth from rich to poor at the hands of the state. Rawls develops the idea of an original position as a conception point and a justification for this theory of distributive justice. In this original position, an individual is standing behind a veil of ignorance which blocks out social class, economic class, sexuality or natural talents. In this place, an individual is in the position to make the most basic moral decisions because they face no external bias. If one knows no place in society, a rational person will make decisions that help those who are worse off. In the original position, the principles of justice would be agreed to by any rational human. This position supports the idea that while each person might have a different background, they should have a fair chance to pursue goals and the equality of opportunity despite these ... Wade Supreme Court Case New Mexico State University Jennifer Walker Abstract The Roe versus Wade Supreme Court Case has had a huge impact on abortion laws in the United States. Before 1973, abortions were illegal and criminal, with few exceptions. Overnight, the decision in the case legalized first trimester abortions while leaving the specifications of the other trimesters up to the states. This case has led to many debates over the value of life and when life begins whether at conception, independence from mother, or first breath. Though the number of abortions has definitely increased from after the Roe versus Wade case, this is likely do to the reporting of abortions rather than the legality of the abortions. Ideological /Value Perspective Both the value one places on life and the question of when life begins plays a huge role in the debate over abortion. Though people who are not part of a religion or are not spiritual have their own beliefs, much of the debate does come from a religious perspective. So when does human life begin? Some believe it is the moment of conception, others at the time when the baby can live independently from the mother, and still others believe it is when the baby takes his/her first breath. This is important because depending on when a person believes a life is valuable or that a fetus becomes a person, may make an impact on whether or not an individual is for or against abortion. As stated earlier, religion plays a large role in a person s beliefs as well. According to Stephens, Jordens, Kerridge, and Ankeny (2010), the Catholic and Lutheran religions believe life begins at conception and that this life has to right to live. Some Catholics even believe abortion is homicide. For the Jewish faith, conception is the beginning of life; however, the mother s already existing life is more important than the fetus. • 8. Analysis Of Erasmus s Praise Of Folly In Erasmus s Praise of Folly, Erasmus discusses how Folly is indebted into her wisdom. Folly, the daughter of Plutus and Youth, wants to inform all of the great gods that she can bring joy to everyone. She wanted to build an empire of her own, since there was not one built for her. Many of the gods during that time had the perception that many women did not know what they were talking about, and were seen as simple minded. However, Folly has the idea that people will not be able to create or form any relationship without her power. Since Folly believes that no one takes her serious, or any of her propositions, she wants to show everyone that life would not be the same without her. In a sense, Folly is giving herself credit so that everyone can value her even more. As she is talking about herself, she is giving everyone else the opportunity to see what kind of person she really is. Erasmus states that I am the one and indeed, the only one whose divine powers can gladden the hearts of gods and men (9). This quote explains the idea of Folly proving to everyone that life would not be the same without her. Words such divine powers and gladden can depict the idea that Folly is going to do whatever it takes to her point across to the gods and everyone else. The citizens of China had wanted a political form for a long time, but did not know how and when to start. The protests started when a favored government official died. Shortly after, Mikhail Gorbachev visited Communist China, and everyone was jealous of the relationship he had with his people. The protesters went on a hunger strike because they wished they had leaders like Gorbachev. This gained the support of many people, and eventually there were over one million people camped out in Tiananmen Square asking for a change in their corrupt government. The government officials got very angry and send out an army to use against their own people. A great deal of people died and a ton were injured. Because the media was able to cover a majority of everything that happened, everyone around the world saw it, and it changed their thoughts of the Chinese government. The Tiananmen Square Massacre ruined China s international image throughout the world. Tiananmen Square is located in Beijing, China and it is also known as the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Kort 9). From its high energized actors to its well choreographed dancing and singing. Of Thee I Sing is a musical that is full of terrific acting, dancing, staging, and stage directing. Anyone who did not see this production made a mistake not to see it. Of Thee I Sing is about John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the love platform. Mary Turner ( Jennifer Totcky) Wintergreens love interest later wife. Diana Devereaux (Katie Whittermore) contest winner Wintergreens administration chose to be his wife before he fell in love with Turner. The play ends with the servants wheeling a large bed into the room, where Mary sits with the babies. Wintergreen leads everyone in proclaiming, Of Thee I Sing. The acting in Of Thee I Sing was nothing but spectacular. The acting from all of the actors was believable. The way how they projected their voices was well done and the how they delivered their lines was well executed. An actor who did these and more was Kyle Laing and Lexi Nieto. Kyle practically stole every scene he was in. He fully embodied his character. From his fast dialogue to his witty dialect. His pacing was great, he did not rush through his lines nor did he slow down. It was well paced. My favorite part of his performance were his facial expressions, he was very charismatic with the time he had on stage to express himself. Lexi Nieto s performance was nothing spectacular. Without it, there is confusion, resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communicationand rules for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm and creates a solid foundation. Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect ... Languages and Dialects of Spain Spain: Languages and Dialects With a population of approximately 45 million Spaniards and 3.5 million immigrants, Spain is a country of contrasts where the richness of its culture blends it up with the variety of languages and dialects used. Almost all Spaniards are used to speaking at least two different languages, but protecting and preserving that right has not been easy for them; Spaniards have had to struggle with war, ignorance, criticism and the governments, in order to preserve and defend what identifies them, and deal with the consequences ... Unfortunately, a very different thing has happened in Galicia and Basque Country; since, by the end of war, the governments of both regions were more concerned about political affairs than preserving languages. In Basque Country, the reason for these lack of protectionism towards language was the persecution Basques suffer during the Civil War, they were accused of terrorism whenever they spoke in their own language; they were hunted and killed for this reason, and all of these actions made them a little afraid of protecting language even years after the end of war. Something similar happened in Galicia, where there were no efforts to maintain language after the war. It was years later that governments started to make efforts to preserve and rescue the language and to normalize it and make it mandatory in each school around the region, but the accurate and pure versions of them got lost with time and what new generations speak today is a mixture of old and new words adapted from the ... Granted they are not the only language that s written using symbols, but they are the only language that uses what I would think to be considered lines to form letters and words. The Chinese languageis one of the oldest written language in the world with six thousand years of history. Chinese characters have been found in turtle shells going as far back as the Shang dynasty. Proving the language has been around for more than three thousand years and that s a long time. It also makes me wonder how long and how much work goes into learning how to write, speak, and pronounce the words that form to create the Chinese alphabet. The Chinese written language uses symbols and characters to represent each word of the vocabulary. Most of the characters are written versions of spoken sounds that have meaning. A large dictionary contains 40,000 characters. You must be able to say 2,000 3,000 characters to read a newspaper. That alone has me disbelief as to how they can memorize so much, then again it may be simple for people who have been doing it since birth it also honestly had me in shock as I thought of how much information that is to hold / memorize. This Blessed House Analysis Performance in This Blessed House Jhumpa Lahiri s short story This Blessed House is one of many stories in her Pulitzer Prize winning collection Interpreter of Maladies and follows a newlywed Indian American couple, Sanjeev and Twinkle, settling into their first suburban home together. As Twinkle begins to find and admire Christian objects scattered around the house , Sanjeev wants to throw them all away, underscoring that Sanjeev deeply cares about how they will look if they display these Christian symbols as Hindus, while Twinkle simply wants to have fun in presenting her discoveries. More deeply rooted in the situation is that Sanjeev wants to look good in front of his coworkers; he does not get along with Twinkle; and the house he is supposed to show off in an upcoming housewarming party only troubles him with the Christian objects. Sanjeev s earlier phone calls with his mother put these three variables of work, spouse, and home together as a formula, when she says that because he has enough money in the bank, he needs a wife to look after and love, and that his money is supposed to go toward raising a family (Lahiri 148). Sanjeev is taught to perform this role of success, and despite it not making him truly happy, his continual pursuit of it emphasizes that he is attempting to perform a fixed role that he does not fit into well. • 31. Kardashian Consumer Culture Essay The society in which people live today is, in large part, primarily engrossed in both the quantity and quality of things in the average person s possession. This display of possessions is perpetuated through our culture in every way seemingly possible, whether it be on television, reality shows, magazines, movies, social media and more. Take the Kardashians, for example, as a source of opulent wealth being exposed to society in a way that while may seem glorious and desirable, does not equally coincide with their happiness with that same lifestyle. Several Kardashian s have struggled with depression, body image problems and more, likely as a result of living this flashy lifestyle in front of the public eye. According to researchers, this two way misconception that the amount of items a person may possess equivalates to their self worth, and internal value is a grand problem in common day society. It is arguable that the two variables, materialistism and unhappiness, directly correlate to one another and have been proven to do so in various experiments. This derives from an unnatural process in which a humanstrays from a healthy path benefiting them with wholesomeness and satisfaction, rather, and placing them on a path of authentic material happiness that they believe defines their net worth. After two years, Lee Berger, a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa was tipped off by the cavers, who had explored the deep cave to find multiple fossils. Berger and his team soon identified the multitude of fossils as a primitive human. This revolutionary discovery has added an ancestor to our evolutionary tree. This leads scientists to believe that these early humans had intentionally taken thought into the burial of their dead. Until the moment of discovery of naledi, I would have probably said to you that it was our defining character. The idea of burial of the dead or ritualized body disposal is something utterly uniquely human, says Berger. This idea of another people intentionally burying its dead has left many scientists to question human identity. After all, if this specie was found after many years proving it has been involved in burial rituals before, what others may we find in the future. It absolutely questions what makes us human. Every competitor dreams of ultimately winning the glorious title of best in show. However, behind the glitz and glamour of the dog shows there is a dark reality for these pedigree dogs. The majority of the dogs in shows suffer from a variety of genetic diseases, disorders and deformities that are specific to their breed. The Kennel Clubs that manage the dog shows have a book of breed standards that dog breeders follow religiously. The problem with these breed standards is the fact these standards are only based off of what they believe would be the best features for the dog s overall appearance. These do not take the general health of the animal into consideration. On the contrary, some of these standards actually make genetic defects more desirable in a purebred dog because the physical features in these particular standards are an indicator of deformity. • 46. Juliet Important Quotes Significant quotes: She hath not seen the change of fourteen years Why this is important: This is exaggerating the fact that Juliet is very young and inexperienced. This shows that their powerful and passionate love might be a little dramatic and just the fact it is their first love and maybe they aren t mature enough for this level of love yet. My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me, That I must love a loathed enemy. Why this is important: This is important because it shows the whole tragedy and irony of this whole story. Of course her first love has to be with her enemy family. And of course they must be so deeply in love. Figurative language: 1.Metaphor: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Metaphor: In a house of tears. This is comparing to a house full of tears after Tybalt has died, because the family took it incredibly hard. Why this is important: For one, they have no idea that Juliet will be pronounced as dead and then it really will be a house of tears. For another, it shows Paris s character and the fact he cares very little for Juliet and her families pain after this tragedy. 2.Verbal Irony: I will confess to you that I love him. Juliet does not at all mean these words because she loves Romeo, not Paris. Why this is important: This affects the whole play because she is lying to her mother so she can sneakily fake her own death and run away with Romeo. She is also giving up loyalty to her family for her love. 3.Metaphor: Compass of my wits. This is comparing his wits to that of a compass, with many directions, saying he has great wit. Why it is important: Again, it shows that Paris is not at all right for Juliet because he is significantly full of himself and kind of a jerk. Yet, they would rather she be with him than a Montague who treats her with love and respect. 4.Personification: This bloody knife shall play the umpire. bringing the knife to life, saying it calls the shots instead of its wielder. Why this is important: Not taking responsibility for his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Perceptions And Perceptions Of Consumer Behavior Essay In attitude behaviour relationships, the Theory of Reasoned Action states that consumer behaviours are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the consumers perception (Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). With regards to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude behaviour relationship could manipulate the perceptionof consumer (see table 2 for perceptions and explanations), for instance, perceived deception (Newell et al., 1998), perceived scepticism (Albayrak et al., 2011), perceived inconsistency (Gallicano, 2011), perceived distrust, and/or perceived risk (Chen Chang, 2013). Consumers motivations for purchasing green products differ and may even be contradictory (Cleveland, Kalamas, Laroche, 2005). However, to some degree, the motivations are thought to influence consumer purchasing behaviour and perception (Albayrak et al., 2011). If the consumer s negative perceptions of falsely claimed green products are correlated, it corresponds to Oliver s (1980) Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory, as well as Fishbein s Multi attribute Model which also employs three components of attitude. Firstly, in Fishbein s Multi attribute Model are salient beliefs , referencing the opinions an individual may acquire during the evaluation of goods or services. Second, are object attribute linkages , these are a gauge of the possibility of significance toward a specific attribute that is related to the object in question. The third component is ... • 48. Blood On The Forge Analysis Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of systematic exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and Melody, migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As they begin to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly conforms to the reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating, acclimating to regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities and close family connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits as the south. Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation that occurred in both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of their migration from a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately, unfamiliar environment along with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning economical and social consequences, permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and physically. Where there was great potential for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a contrasting reality of misery and permanent damage. Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation that were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They were bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway ties a few key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of transportation. To put in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose of serving as slaves, the transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway describes this scene. Warm urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves just as the Africans had no other option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark imagery of the ...
