Alternative Dispute Resolution Processes
Contrary to that, some observers have argued that it is not at all clear that informal processes like ADR
may be a disadvantage to minority groups any more than formal processes like settlement . Formality
may influence people to be on the right side of the law and play by the book, it risks imposing its own
obstacles to justice . The concept of justice is essential to ADR processes. In the framework of ADR,
the concept of justice involves the consent of the parties to play an active role in the resolution of their
disputes; to assert some degree of control over the aftermath of their disputes and to arrive at a
satisfactory, if not excellent settlements of their disputes, with regards to their interest. 3.3 Principles
and Mechanisms of ADR 3.3.1 General Principle Currently there is no particular ADR philosophy that
can acknowledge that one specific approach can best suit the true spirit of ADR . Nevertheless, by
taking a look at the main aim of ADR, one can establish whether there is one philosophy to ADR and
to what extent does it go to. Some of the main aims of ADR are; the principle of solving a problem
collectively, enabling of parties, avoiding delays and costs related to traditional litigation, conservation
or improvement of personal relationships; mainly business related and simplifying procedures. The
principle of solving a problem collectively is considered to be one of the main objectives of ADR
process, however it has been argued that some parties in

Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg
Introduction
An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over
a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a
device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by
the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy
individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial
depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular
repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which
is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted
by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is
detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a
linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an
influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to
contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex
represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole.
This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex,

Similarities Between Han China And Imperial Rome
Imperial Rome and Han China were two of the biggest empires during the Classical period. They
shared many of the same qualities, yet they had little to no contact with one another. Imperial Rome
and Han China were similar because they used ideologies to control their citizens rather than religion,
and they were different because Han China had an extensive educated bureaucracy as opposed to
Rome s authoritarian government based on military power.
Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism
was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. This ideology, created by Confucius,
encouraged moral and cultural unity. It encouraged respect towards authority, and set guidelines for
how an individual should act towards people above their social class and people below their social
class. Han rulers created one of the first civil service tests, requiring applicants to have an
understanding of Confucianism and other early writings to become a bureaucrat. This resulted in a ...

Food And Drug Law Journal Analysis
According to the Journal of Marketing and Communication, writing is one of the most crucial
elements to success in the business world. In both journal articles, Food and Drug Law Journal and

emphasis that the main reason for any type of print in business is to acquire customers. The main
topics discussed in these journals were labels, marketing and communication. The main purpose of
these two journals are closely related. The Food and Drug Law Journal emphasizes points on between

Animal Rights and Laws
Animal Rights The world has existed with the presence of both living and non living matter. Human
beings have been accorded the right of protection and preservation of the environment, where the
animals belong. In essence, humanity is all about coexisting with animals and plants, together with the
other non living matter. With preference of human beings over animals, and with preference of
animals over plants, every category higher than the other, is relinquishing the capacity to dominate
and coexist with the higher authority. The world is evidently a home to both plants and animals,
including the non living matter. All animals are living. Moreover, all plants are living. The distinction
between human beings and other animals has led to the establishment of a code of relationship and use
which human beings has embraced over the years. Human beings have dominion over animals. This is
in accordance with the innate characteristics and capabilities that human beings possess unlike other
animals (Hargrove 168). With respect to this, human beings have often used animals in assorted ways.
The many ways that animals are beneficial to human beings has elicited concerns over the rights of
animals. Because of this, there is an ethical relationship between plants and animals, together with
animals and man. There is a philosophy that human beings are a dominant factor in the environment.
Evidently, human beings have used and misused animals as part of the other facets found in the

Jacques Offenbach
Jacques Offenbach Jacques Offenbach was born on June 20, 1819, in Cologne, Prussia (present day
Germany). His original name was Jacob Offenbach. He was the seventh child of Isaac Juda Eberst; a
cantor at the Cologne Synagogue. When he was 6 years old he was taught the violin, then as it says in
the book, Jacques Offenbach and the Paris of His Time He was accidentally discovered to have been
secretly and successfully practicing the cello, for which his arms were not yet long enough. Thanks to
this discovery he was taken to the good cellist Herr Alexander where he learned all the techniques that
Herr Alexander could offer him.
When he had all the necessary techniques his father used him, his elder brother Julius, and his sister
Isabella to form a trio. They often performed twice a day, in the afternoon and evening, they played ...

School Uniforms Mandatory Research
The topic of whether or not school uniforms should be allowed has always been highly debated. The
reason why it is such a hot topic is because it pertains to a student s individuality and the possible
benefits they may bring. This is something that has sparked a bit of friction in the education world.
Hours and hours of research have been poured into this subject in order to find a definitive answer. If
the research has proved anything, it is that school uniforms are ineffective and they restrict self
expression. Contrary to popular belief, school uniforms do not provide the benefits that many claim
they do. School uniforms simply don t work in the real world. Now some may feel inclined to disagree

Uncertainty Reduction Theory “the Vow” and “Meet the Parents”
Uncertainty Reduction Theory
The Vow and Meet the Parents
Uncertainty reduction theory is the point of view that uncertainty motivates communication and that
certainty reduces the motivation to communicate (Wood, definition). This theory was first developed
by Charles Berger. He believed that when people are to meet for the first time they have a high level
of uncertainty and the only way for them to reduce it is to communicate with one another. They don t
know what each other likes, thinks and believes; how each other responds to certain reactions, and
they re unsure what each other expects or wants from interacting (Wood,184). There are three prior
conditions that are meant to help individuals want to reduce uncertainty. ... Show more content on

Although their situation makes the reduction of uncertainty a lot more difficult because for Channing
he remembers all the stuff they once did together, but Rachel cannot seem to place any remembrance
on what they were like. She keeps remembering who she used to be before she met him, which was a
completely different person. This causes him to get very frustrated with her, and this in turn puts a
strain on them continuing of the reduction of uncertainty. There is a scene in the film where Channing
takes Rachel out on a date and he brings her to all the places that they shared special moments at;
where they first met, first date, and a ritual they would always do once a month. During this date the
couple was able to talk and began to restart their relationship. I was able to see that from their
communication it began to break the barrier between the couple, and allowed them to start to grow
some feelings towards one another again. Where as in the film Meet the Parents the verbal
communication between the father and the possible son in law they both do not know each other so
everything is completely new about one another. I found that verbal communication actually
decreased the chance of reducing the uncertainty between the two. For example the more they talked
and learned about one another the more the conversation started to change because it helped them

Hunger, Poverty, And Poverty
An empty cabinet and a bare refrigerator indicates that there is no food to fulfill the achy hollowness
and grumblings occurring in their empty stomachs. They do not know when the next meal or paycheck
will come, and there is no one to turn to for help. Hope is gone. Stabbing hunger pains are usually
associated with starving children in Africa, but hunger is also related to poverty. What people do not
realize is that poverty is also a concern in the United States. To many Americans, poverty does not
seem problematic, but the issue exists and is very real. Since severe poverty leads to homelessness, the
next step is children being put in foster care because their parents do not have the resources to provide

( Poverty in Philly and Its Schools ). Hungry and hopeless, adults and children alike are all affected by
poverty, and according to author and poverty expert Betsey Piette, across the U.S. one in five children
live in poverty. In Philadelphia this figure is one in three. Those are more than just numbers; those are
actual, hungry children who do not know when their next meal will arrive. Advocates against poverty
explain that when children are hungry, they most likely will not go to school or they may repeat a
grade. Starving children cannot focus on their school work. According to a website dedicated to
poverty in Philadelphia, in the School District of Philadelphia, at least 30 percent of the students are
low income. In the least poor school, Greenberg, the rate (of low income students) is 44 percent (
Poverty in Philly and Its Schools ). Because of the poverty level, most children who attend
Philadelphia public schools receive free or reduced lunches. Life is difficult for underprivileged
families when they cannot buy lunches for their children, let alone feed themselves. No one wants to
live in poverty, and parents do not want to see their children suffer.
Living in a poor community affects people of all ages and backgrounds: adults, children, and families
of different races. Jane Knitzer is an author, psychologist, and activist for poverty and children.

There are various methods of communication we can use as a HR Professional, and which method we

Racism deeply affects how people are treated. Because of the color of someone s skin, people are
often looked at treated and differently. In the novel Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Café,
Fannie Flag illustrates the Racism as a theme in many different ways. The stories start off with the
introduction of two women, Ninny and Evelyn who meet in a nursing home, and Ninny tells the tales
of her days back in the whistle stop café, around the 1920 s. Throughout the story the appearance and
mention of the Ku Klux Klan appears at various times, and black men are given food out the back
door, while the white men are fed inside at the tables; how black people were viewed at the time was

People treat others differently based on the color of their skin. The author showcases this throughout
the novel, through the lives of Artis and Jasper, twin siblings who have extensively different

Analysis of Two of the Best Williams Shakespeare s Work
Known as the leader in classical poetry and drama, English writer William Shakespeare, captures the
passion and emotions that the romance and depths of the human heart experiences in life. This is
especially shown in his vast collection of sonnets which exemplified the carpe diem ideology of the
period, and the love that one can have for another. Two of the most famous of Shakespeare s works,
Sonnet 55 [Not Marble, nor the gilded monuments] and sonnet 116 [Let me not to the marriage of true
minds], are no exception to this theme in poetry. Both of these sonnets exemplify the love that the
narrator has for a mistress in his life, and how he defines his love for them. Throughout both poems,

By using this subtle form of metonymy, the idea of immortalization is achieved by the poet as he
conveys his theme. Other forms of poetic devices are also used throughout the poem, such as
alliteration and assonance. Alliteration is first seen in Sonnet 55 with the M sound in marble and
monuments and the p in princes and powerful. Assonance is also seen early in the poem with the I in
shine and bright, this is the only occurrence of this poetic device in Sonnet 55. However, alliteration is
seen several more times in lines 5 6 with the triple w sound in when wasteful war and the double s
sound in shall statues. The p sound of pace and praise is also an example of alliteration within this
poem. Another literary element used in the internal rhyme of Mars and wars in line seven. By using
alliteration and assonance in this poem, Shakespeare creates a soft but sincere tone for the piece.
Sonnet 116 also has several different forms of poetic devices. Throughout the poem the theme of love
is conveyed through diction and the use of metonymy by repeating several different words in order to
illustrate the strength of emotion the poet feels for the issue.

are seen as more dominating in relationships than woman, but it is Little Red who is dictating in their

how bored Little Red is with her relationship with the greying wolf and that she desires something
new in her life, something more exciting. Also, the sibilance emphasises how irritated Little Red is
becoming towards her partner, as the s sound mirrors the sound of an evil snake, linking to the next

Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay
Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance
Peggy Chang 999349986
BIOC15 Peter, PRA002
University of Toronto Scarborough
Abstract
This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations
of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that
predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes
and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The
frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value
represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination
frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked
traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid
cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi
square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as
well as between short wings and forked bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had
dumpy wings and brown eyes.

Two unique societies were constructed by people of common origin. These English colonists
immigrated to the New World for either economic prosperity or religious freedom. During
colonization, two regions were formed, New England and the Chesapeake Bay area. The two
contrasting societies of New England and Chesapeake region were the results of diversity of: social
and family structure; health and living conditions; economy; religion and beliefs; and government
policies.
As stated in Document A, unity was encouraged among New Englanders, which developed into close
societies. The close societies often built a bond of trust within the community, knowing that neighbors
would come together during times of danger. Document A also stresses the ... Show more content on

Document F claims, ...our ordinary [food] was but mean and water so that this ... little relieved our
wants, whereby with extremity of the bitter cold frost ... more than half of us died. The document
describes the harsh living conditions that were imposed upon the colonists of the Chesapeake region.
These conditions often reduced the expected life expectancy of its inhabitants by ten years and often
destroyed the family unit. The living conditions of New England were much more favorable and often
increased the life expectancy of the colonists. Longer lifetimes resulted in society stability since
families were formed and grandparents invented.
Document F states, The worst [among us were the gold seekers who] with their golden promises made
all men their slaves in hope of recompenses. This quote displays the major motive of emigrants to the
Chesapeake region as gold seekers, or monetary prosperity. Documents G and H show that there were
many indentured servants in the Chesapeake area. These indentured servants were often used for the
tobacco farms. Since the soil was infertile in New England, the colonists there often focused on trade,
small scale manufacturing, fishing, and other sea industries. The economy of each region impacted its
social structure, which many indentured servants and slaves in the Chesapeake region while there was
much more equality in New England.
Documents A, D, and E stress the importance of religion

Reading Lolita In The Tehran And The Underground Girls Of...
Both Reading Lolita in the Tehran by Azar Nafisi and The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny
Nordberg are works of nonfiction documenting the lives of women in the turbulent political
environments in the Middle East. Being a woman, particularly an educated one, during the 80 s and 90
s in Iran meant a drastic limitation of personal freedoms and expressions through self image and art, a
concept demonstrated through how Nafisi recalls her experience as a literature professor at the
University of Tehran and how her students perceived the books she taught. Nordberg similarly
expresses the sexual discrimination in the Middle East through her documentation of young girls as
they search for a way to achieve personal freedoms by cross dressing as the liberated sex in a post
Taliban Afghanistan. Through her interviews of Kabul s Bacha Posh population, Nordberg establishes
for the Western reader how the maltreated young girls Afghanistan constantly dream of an elusive
freedom granted to their brothers, fathers, and husbands, and how few establish the otherwise
unattainable by presuming the role of a boy for their adolescence. Nafisi s demonstration of similar
sexual oppression is related as a memoir of her students where she utilizes their interpretations of 20th
century western literature to serve as a reflection of the lives of her student through sexual oppression
and conflicting political and religious factions. Nordberg s The Underground Girls of Kabul employ

The Purpose and Practice of Monastic Vocation Essay
The Purpose and Practice of Monastic Vocation
The monastic vocation can be called a mystery and in two senses of the word.
Primarily divine mystery is a reality proceeding from God, at once hidden and revealed, expressing in
its essence something of the grace, wisdom, peace and fruitfulness of God.
Monastic consecration a mystery akin to the sacramental mysteries of the Church, in which an inner
change is affected through an outward ritual or symbol and from here becomes a wellspring of Divine
energy.

· Great care must be taken of those who are sick.
For their first reason, silence is very important for Benedictines for the reason that they could
concentrate more and more on hearing God s voice. If they fill their mind with noises they would not
be able to focus their mind on praying and hearing the wisdom of their Abbot, and their brethren as
they guide them in their search of God.
Secondly, talking too much will not be able to avoid having a sin, as our tongue is the effective
weapon of all, which will hurt other people.
However, the control of talking would make a change to peoples lives to good, as this will give advice
to people, support them, encourage them, teach them, console them.
Humility is also important. This will make them understand the truth of being a Christian. Pride is the
opposite of humility, because of our pride lying is sometimes the answer, it can also ruin the Christian
s belief.
When a person wants to join a monastic life they have to make a vow, which are obedience, stability
and Conversatio Morum. Once the vow is made they are making a promise to God that they would
serve Him, until he die. This is how they show how much they love God, just as God s love us
constantly.
Obedience Obeying God is the first thing that they have to vow, the fact that in his rule he describe

The Era of Wonderful Nonsense
The 1920 s is sometimes referred to as the Roaring Twenties, or The Era of Wonderful Nonsense. The
nonsense this phrase is referring to is the style and boldness of the new kind of rebel: the flapper. In
the 1920 s the flappers shocked everyone and set the path for other people who yearned to stand out
and be different. The flappers certainly contrasted the generation before them, but that did not happen
overnight. There are many reasons credited as to why flappers started rebelling, but one of the major
ones was WWI. The women decided that most of the eligible bachelors were dead or at war, meaning
that there were not enough men to go around. When those men had gone off to war, they left their
jobs, meaning that someone had to work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these things were so improper that women were arrested for smoking in public even though
smoking was not illegal. Flappers took every chance they could to make things scandalous. The style
of flappers was one of the most controversial things about them. Before the Roaring Twenties, dresses
that went above the middle of the calf muscle were unheard of, let alone just below or just above the
knee. These new dress lengths horrified older generations. Along with the dress, she would wear a step
in, a single piece of lingerie that took the place of the stiff boned corset (Gourley 62). Because of this,
the flappers could maneuver more freely. The dresses were not the only reason for this. Another new
concept the flappers shocked the world with was short, bobbed hair. Long hair represented elegance
and respect, but flappers had no time for elaborate hairdos (Fashion . . . through the Ages 1). Many of
them would wear their hair in small waves called marcels, named after the man who invented them,
Marcel Greateau. Sometimes they would pin the hair back with another new invention called a bobby
pin, which is still in use today. The shorter hair added to the boyish look that the flappers wanted.
They would also wear newsboy caps and bras that made their chests look smaller, because big chests
were considered ladylike. The flappers liked to believe that they were the complete opposite of
ladylike. The center of attention was the desired goal. Everyone

Flappers Essay
Flappers
War is often followed by change; World War I is no exception. World War I is often labeled the cause
for the rise of a feminine revolution the flapper . Before the term flapper began to describe the young
independently minded woman of the early Twenties (Mowry 173), the definition that is most
prominent today, it had a 300 year long history. The young woman of the 1920 s was new and
rebellious. In her appearance and demeanor, she broke the social constructs of her society.
When the war started, women had to take over the jobs of men and they learned to be independent.
These women exemplified the beginning of change. Coupled with enfranchisement and the increased
popularity of birth control, women experienced a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The car, a new invention, was another tool in their rebellion; it was fast and could be reckless.
Flappers used cars for three purposes: to drive, to ride and for petting . Petting was the sexual activity
practiced in the back seats of cars. People also had petting parties, which mortified the older
generation.
The carefree attitude of the younger generation was attributed to the psychological trauma caused by
the unprecedented casualty level of the war. This generation had the theory that each day might be the
last, therefore lived it to the fullest. This mental change was accompanied by a change in the physical
styles of women. Fashion trends that were held in high regard by tradition were challenged to
demonstrate the new risqué way of life.
The Gibson glamour girl preceding the flapper wore long tresses, a high neck starched shirt, and a
long skirt over restrictive undergarments. The flapper did not adhere to these types of restrictions.
Pantaloons and corsets, the Gibson girl s undergarments, were not conducive to the dancing of the
flapper or the need for physical freedom. They were replaced by underwear called step ins (Rosenberg
2). The flapper fashion showed much more skin than the Gibson girl s outfit. She wore a loose fitting
dress that came just to the knees, with a dropped waistline and often showed the arms. The look worn
by the flapper was called the garconne meaning little boy. The hair was first cut very short into a bob

Rebirth Is A Sci Fi Thriller
REBIRTH is a sci fi thriller that offers a visionary and cautionary new world. The script nicely poses
the question about the advancement of technology and medicine. The hero questions the morality of
living life with out defects or the need to procreate. It s a compelling question to examine.
The idea of searching for a new planet has merit. The idea of finding an abandoned spacecraft and
trying to put the pieces together of what happened to the ship also is engaging. There s a ticking clock
tension to get home or to get to the new planet.
The script is driven by the theme of second chances. It also examines the man vs. machine premise.
Ironically, due to social engineering, the humans have become more robot like, suppressing their
emotions, while the android featured in the script, is almost more human than the real humans. It s a
clever contradiction.
While the script has definite strengths, the overall script would benefit from more development to
build upon those strengths.
One area that would benefit from more development is the structure and pace. It s crucial to
immediately engage and grab the audience, especially in the first ten pages. The current first ten pages
of the script feels slow. It introduces the characters, but nothing exciting happens to immediately draw
the audience into the plot. It s not until around pages 16 or 17 that they find the planet and this perks
our interest.
The fire is the major inciting event that traps the crew in a strong dilemma.

How To Modernise Othello
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and I hope you re as excited as I am to be here, to discuss with
you my new film pitch, a modern adaptation of one of Shakespeare s most loved classics, Othello.
Despite being written to pander to the lowest common demoniter in Elizabethan times, Shakespeare,
in our society, seems to be reserved for scholars and the well educated, with its use of language
lowering it s accessibilty and providing us with a barrier to enjoyment , making it relatively obsolete
in our times.
Modernising Othello provides an opportunity to transform the play into an understandable and
relevant story, whilst preserving the themes, values and attitudes portrayed in the original, however,
manipulating them to resonate with a modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Entitled The Treachery of Images , the film makes reference to Magritte s infamous pipe painting,
reminding us that we should not necessarily believe in what we see and think, as deception lies in
every nook and cranny in our lives, meaning that nothing can truly be trusted. This is a modern and
novel nod to Othello, as the play itself is an adept exploration of the faces of good and evil, proving
the end point that nothing, and no one, are truly what they seem.
My vision re casts Othello as Oliver, a 20th century English Duke, who, despite his constant
questioning of the church and it s values, is appointed as mayor of a small village, leaving the
metropolitan haven of the city, and into a place where he is neither trusted nor accepted. With him
come his faithful and sweet wife, Dorothea, who married him against her heavily religious fathers
wishes, and his two sons, Ichabod and Charles. Whilst Oliver trusts, and supposedly favours, Ichabod,
Charles is far more successful than his brother, meaning he is named sole heir of the families wealth
and estate. For fair natured and trustworthy Ichabod, this would be a choice that he would support
wholly, however, a changling has taken his place, a curse put upon him by the God that he questions
so freely. Under the pretense of being Ichabod, the changeling begins to wreak havoc, coaxing Oliver
into pyschosis and convincing him that there is something Oedipal occuring between Charles and
Dorothea, and eventually causing Oliver to murder

Essay about Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes To Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky, as well as his other Western stories, owe much to
Mark Twain s approach to the West. According to Eric Solomon, both authors...used humor to
comment on the flaws of traditional fictional processes (237). While employing parody of the Western
literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. In The Bride
Comes to Yellow Sky, Stephen Crane uses symbolism to develop his study of the changes effected on
the West and the roles of its inhabitants by the encroachment of eastern society.

Potter is embarrassed in the great eastern train car. He is not accustomed to the fancy Victorian
environment, and neither is his wife. Potter is also worried about the act of his marriage itself. He felt
the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a man
known, liked, and feared in his corner... [had married] without consulting Yellow Sky for any part of
the transaction (Crane 403). Potter had defiled the idea of the Marshal, a figure fearsome and
independent (Solomon 252). Potter also ignored the Western tradition of partnership and consulting
one s friends before marriage. He has told no one and is quietly attempting to sneak his bride back into
town. This bride is the catalyst of change that is sure to wreak havoc on the social structure of Yellow
Sky, and Potter knows it.
Potter s opposite, Scratchy Wilson cannot face his own two roles (Solomon 252). Where Potter has
realized and is attempting to accept his new role, Scratchy will do nothing of the kind. Scratchy is the
town s drunken bum. The occupants of the town are terrified as he rages up and down the street.
Scratchy is, however, almost comical in his decorative shirt and fancy boots. Though he isn t
conscious of it, these are a symbol of the East s encroachment on Scratchy. His shirt was made
principally by some Jewish women on the east side of New York...and his boots had red tops with

Maintenance protection and prevention are done with both western medicine and holistic approaches.
Physical maintenance is proper diet and physical exercise. Mental activities include socialization with
family and friends, reading, traveling, and many other activities. Close family ties, especially among
intimate family members are established and many activities include all family members and
significant others. Spirituality is found within the authors own personal means and does not include a
religious institution. Protective measures in health include supplemental vitamins and herbs. Annual
physical and exams are done regularly. The author rarely becomes ill. When this occurs, restorative
practices include medication, herbal teas, hot soups, and rest.
There are several common traditions among the three individuals interviewed. Hmong and Hindi
culture are very spiritual. The author is very westernized in religious beliefs. The Hmong use no
preventive measures in health maintenance, the other two cultures take great measures in preventative
care. The common factor in all three was the restoration of illness with food, preferably hot, and use of
herbal remedies. All three believe their way of life is important and want to carry on the traditional
beliefs of their culture.

Lyndon B Johnson Accomplishments
Lyndon B. Johnson had only served one term, but he surprisingly accomplished a lot during his only
term. Johnson had the ability to pass the acts that Kennedy created during his time in office. Some of
these accomplishments include: Medicare and Medicaid, Education acts, and the Civil Rights acts. In
order to continue his war on poverty, he established Medicare and Medicaid to aid poor families and
the elderly. To further help families in need, as well as children, Johnson passed education acts to fix
and create more public schools in poor areas. Lastly, civil rights acts were passed to give better
opportunities for blacks within the United States. While these acts were based on Kennedy s ideas,
Johnson found the way to put them into place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Medicare and Medicaid federal programs were put in place as a way to help the less fortunate.
Individuals with severe disabilities or over the age of 65 qualify for Medicare. This program helps
them with health coverage, so the disabled and elderly who have Medicare do not have to worry about
their medical bills and not going to the hospital when they are sick. Medicaid is a similar program,
however, it only applies to low income families who cannot provide for their children. Similar to
Medicare, this program covers any health related problems and takes away the worry and troubles that
come with hospital bills.
Continuing his war on poverty, Johnson passed numerous education bills and acts. The Higher
Education Act of 1965 has had great impact on the American education system. In addition to helping
low income students, this program created scholarships, which created more opportunities for students
living in poverty. The Bilingual Education act of 1968 created a pathway for equal education for
students who could speak little to no English. While it didn t do much, the amendments added to this
act later on helped give children equal opportunities in

  • 3. Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg Introduction An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole. This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. This ideology, created by Confucius, encouraged moral and cultural unity. This causes him to get very frustrated with her, and this in turn puts a strain on them continuing of the reduction of uncertainty. There is a scene in the film where Channing takes Rachel out on a date and he brings her to all the places that they shared special moments at; where they first met, first date, and a ritual they would always do once a month. During this date the couple was able to talk and began to restart their relationship. I was able to see that from their communication it began to break the barrier between the couple, and allowed them to start to grow some feelings towards one another again. Where as in the film Meet the Parents the verbal communication between the father and the possible son in law they both do not know each other so everything is completely new about one another. Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance Peggy Chang 999349986 BIOC15 Peter, PRA002 University of Toronto Scarborough Abstract This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had dumpy wings and brown eyes. Introduction Gregor Mendel, known as the father of genetics, paved the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Reading Lolita in the Tehran by Azar Nafisi and The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg are works of nonfiction documenting the lives of women in the turbulent political environments in the Middle East. Being a woman, particularly an educated one, during the 80 s and 90 s in Iran meant a drastic limitation of personal freedoms and expressions through self image and art, a concept demonstrated through how Nafisi recalls her experience as a literature professor at the University of Tehran and how her students perceived the books she taught. Nordberg similarly expresses the sexual discrimination in the Middle East through her documentation of young girls as they search for a way to achieve personal freedoms by cross dressing as the liberated sex in a post Taliban Afghanistan. Through her interviews of Kabul s Bacha Posh population, Nordberg establishes for the Western reader how the maltreated young girls Afghanistan constantly dream of an elusive freedom granted to their brothers, fathers, and husbands, and how few establish the otherwise unattainable by presuming the role of a boy for their adolescence. Nafisi s demonstration of similar sexual oppression is related as a memoir of her students where she utilizes their interpretations of 20th century western literature to serve as a reflection of the lives of her student through sexual oppression and conflicting political and religious factions. The dresses were not the only reason for this. Another new concept the flappers shocked the world with was short, bobbed hair. Long hair represented elegance and respect, but flappers had no time for elaborate hairdos (Fashion . . . through the Ages 1). Many of them would wear their hair in small waves called marcels, named after the man who invented them, Marcel Greateau. Sometimes they would pin the hair back with another new invention called a bobby pin, which is still in use today. The shorter hair added to the boyish look that the flappers wanted. The carefree attitude of the younger generation was attributed to the psychological trauma caused by the unprecedented casualty level of the war. This generation had the theory that each day might be the last, therefore lived it to the fullest. This mental change was accompanied by a change in the physical styles of women. The idea of finding an abandoned spacecraft and trying to put the pieces together of what happened to the ship also is engaging. It s a clever contradiction. While the script has definite strengths, the overall script would benefit from more development to build upon those strengths. One area that would benefit from more development is the structure and pace. It s crucial to immediately engage and grab the audience, especially in the first ten pages. Entitled The Treachery of Images , the film makes reference to Magritte s infamous pipe painting, reminding us that we should not necessarily believe in what we see and think, as deception lies in every nook and cranny in our lives, meaning that nothing can truly be trusted. This is a modern and novel nod to Othello, as the play itself is an adept exploration of the faces of good and evil, proving the end point that nothing, and no one, are truly what they seem. My vision re casts Othello as Oliver, a 20th century English Duke, who, despite his constant questioning of the church and it s values, is appointed as mayor of a small village, leaving the metropolitan haven of the city, and into a place where he is neither trusted nor accepted. With him come his faithful and sweet wife, Dorothea, who married him against her heavily religious fathers wishes, and his two sons, Ichabod and Charles. He felt the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a man known, liked, and feared in his corner... [had married] without consulting Yellow Sky for any part of the transaction (Crane 403). Potter had defiled the idea of the Marshal, a figure fearsome and independent (Solomon 252). Potter also ignored the Western tradition of partnership and consulting one s friends before marriage. He has told no one and is quietly attempting to sneak his bride back into town. This bride is the catalyst of change that is sure to wreak havoc on the social structure of Yellow Sky, and Potter knows it. Potter s opposite, Scratchy Wilson cannot face his own two roles (Solomon 252). Where Potter has realized and is attempting to accept his new role, Scratchy will do nothing of the kind. Similar to Medicare, this program covers any health related problems and takes away the worry and troubles that come with hospital bills. Continuing his war on poverty, Johnson passed numerous education bills and acts. The Higher Education Act of 1965 has had great impact on the American education system. In addition to helping low income students, this program created scholarships, which created more opportunities for students living in poverty.
