A Short Note On Melanoma And Prostate Cancer
Allenmar Sicsic
Fall 2014 Carcinoma of the prostate, commonly known as prostate cancer, is a diagnosis of a
malignant tumor (adenocarcinoma) of the prostate gland (Chabner). The prostate is a significant
muscular organ that belongs to the male reproductive system. Approximately the size of a walnut, the
prostate is located at the base of the bladder and in front of the rectum (Prostate Gland). In conjunction
to the seminal vesicles and the Cowper s glands, the prostate secretes fluids that contain sperm which
is transported into the female reproductive tract for fertilization (Prostate Gland). The vas deferens is a
tube that carries sperm from the testes and secretions from the seminal vesicles to the prostate. After
the sperm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, prostate cancer symptoms may be asymptomatic during the beginning stages.
Therefore, all males over the age of 50 should have routine physical examinations because it is only
through some or all of the following tests that prostate cancer can be detected early. The first test I will
be discussing is called the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), which entails the doctor placing a
gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum in order to feel for any lumps in the prostate (Cherath).
Most prostate tumors start in the posterior area of the prostate, hence why the rectum is examined due
to its location being behind the prostate gland. This type of pre screening is less efficient than a PSA
test, however, it can help men who have normal PSA levels and still have tumors. If the doctor feels
there is a need for further testing after a DRE then he/she may request other tests to confirm the
findings. Furthermore, the most common and routine blood test that helps detect prostate cancer is the
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This blood test is used to measure the amounts of PSA
circulating in the blood (Cherath). PSA is a protein made by the cells lining the prostate gland, and
normal levels of this are 4.0 ng/mL and lower.

A Cultural Blockade in Khaled Hosseini´s The Kite Runner
I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I
could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past
and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran. In Khaled Hosseini s, The
Kite Runner, Amir, the young protagonist, lives a lavish lifestyle with his father, Baba. Until the
Soviets invade and the Taliban become the dominant influence in Afghanistan. Amir s sumptuous
lifestyle comes to an end, and the values of not only his father but also his society begin to impact him
and he realizes how much he does not belong in his own culture. Amir is taught the virtues of being a
good man, however when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During a routine checkpoint, the truck driver gave the Russian soldier a payment from all of the
passengers for safe travel. Although, the soldier wanted more than just money he also wanted to
ravage one of the woman in the truck. Amir is very frightened by the soldier and especially by his gun.
Baba begins to converse with the soldier asking for decency. I want you to ask this man something,
Baba said. He said it to Karim, but looked directly at the Russian officer. Ask him where his shame is.
They spoke. He says this is war. There is no shame in war. Tell him he s wrong. War doesn t negate
decency. It demands it, even more than in times of peace. (Hosseini 115). Amir is bewildered his
father would risk his own life for a stranger. He even tries to stop Baba from speaking up to the
soldier. This shows the contrast between Baba and Amir. Amir knows how courageous his father is
and feels guilty because he does not exhibit the same behavior. Amir does not begin to show his inner
bravery until many years later when he has his realization. Amir is faced with many challenges in his
life, but there are two major life changing realizations he goes through. The first, being the change
from his opulent lifestyle to fleeing from Afghanistan and Pakistan for refuge. During Amir s
childhood, Amir took for granted his father s wealth. Until one day when they heard endless gunshots

Supply Chain of Blood and Products in a Blood Bank
The objective of this case study is
1. To study the existing supply chain of blood and blood products in a regional blood bank
2. To identify cost and risk related problems in the supply chain of blood and blood products and to
develop a solution for cost and risk minimization.
BACKGROUND
Human blood is not an ordinary commodity because it cannot be substituted and its need will always
exist. Blood and blood products are also perishable, which complicates things even further. Shortages
lead to high costs for society and outdates on the other hand are not commonly accepted either, since
blood donors are a scarce asset of society and donors must respect a certain time period between two
donations, depending on the type of donation.
Blood Bank services are a key component of the healthcare system all over the world and a well
organised Blood Transfusion Service is a vital component of any health care delivery system and yet
the study and the analysis of such systems from a supply chain perspective have been a few especially
in India. The National Blood Policy of India aims to ensure easily accessible and adequate supply of
safe and quality blood and blood components, which is free from transfusion transmitted infections,
and is stored and transported under optimum conditions.
This case study examines the supply chain of a specific type of perishable product i.e. Human Blood
and Blood Product in a Regional Blood Bank, from the point of collection as a whole blood to the
point

Myth Of The Good Guy With A Gun Analysis
Both texts suggest that the increase of gun population leads to a violent result. Although, both consider
the same outcomes, the Blood Drive is more effective in the thought of violence, rather than helping
keep people safe. The Myth of the Good Guy with a Gun is a good source of information, using logos
as its type of persuasion, the evidence/examples are statistics and numbers that express the idea that
guns aren t used for good. The Blood Drive uses pathos, a persuasion that emphasises the emotion of
the audience. In this case, logos is a better expression for this topic because the question is asking for
an increase in population of violence, a number. Although logos is more appropriate for this topic, The

My Goals For President
My goals as president are to make things better as in school foods, house expenses, and medical bills.
I would like to end sending our troops in because I feel as if they are fighting over nothing they don t
need to fight for other countries but, for us to save our children and our families not theirs. It s their
fault they are in that mess and I don t want our country in something like that either. We need to
protect not destroy. I would like to do this to stop death of our families. I believe that anything is
possible and I want to hear your ideas and thought on what needs done and want you want done. I
would also like to cut the interest down for house payments and medical bills. Some families can t get
out of a bad house conditions or move out because of how much money they have to pay for medical
bills, like my family can t move out because she is still paying medical bill from having a baby and a
low paying job. My grandma is about to lose her house because she s very diabetic and every time she
gets sick she goes to the hospital and she can t work because of the diabetes and how out of control it

The Track And The Multi Track
System (P1)
The Tracks:
There are three tracks in the civil court system, the small claims track, the fast track and the multi
track. These three tracks were formed under the Civil Procedure Act 1997 to make it easier to deal
with cases of different complexity. The Act has put in place a series of checks to sort the cases
according to size of case, the complexity of the case and the size of the compensation asked for. This
is achieved through a questionnaire completed by the parties.
Small Claim courts:
Cases in the small claims court are heard by District judges in a county court, the court will hear
contract and tort cases up to £10,000 and personal injury claims up to £1000. The hearing is informal
and the courts discourage people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The court will set a strict timetable in order to stop time wasting and to keep costs low. Once the case
is set for a hearing, it will be heard within thirty weeks. Fixed costs will be allowed and the hearing
will be one day long.
Only one expert can be used, for example, in a case involving mechanical problems between the
manufacturer and the dealer, an engineer may be used in order to give advice on the technicality at
hand. The judge decide how much the losing party has to pay in legal fees to the winner, to decide this
both parties have to hand in a form stating how much money they have spent in legal fees in order for
the judge to decide.
Multi Track Claims:
Cases on the fast track are heard by a Circuit judge in a County court, the court will hear cases over
£25,000 (therefore it has no limit) or cases with a complex point. Cases on this track can be sent to the
High Court (Queens Bench Division, Family Division, or Chancery Division) if it contains complex
points of law. The judge will case manage therefore setting a strict timetable for matters such as
document disclosures.
The use of ADR, such as arbitration, will be encouraged in order to avoid having to go to court and
therefore keep costs low.
The Civil Courts:
The civil courts will deal with issues between two parties with the claimant asking the liable party for

The Mexican War Of Argentina
Throughout Argentina and as well other Central American countries during that of the late 1970 s,
many were going through severe political upheaval. This political catastrophe coupled with various
human rights violations pushed many people to the edge and out of their homeland. Economically
drained and scared for their lives Argentines sought freedom and asylum within the United States. For
many this was the start of something new in a foreign country with people that speak a foreign
language. Courage and bravery those are two words that in my eyes describe an immigrant that has
been forced to endure so much that they leave everything they had ever known. The Dirty War of
Argentina caused families to be ripped apart and people to vanish as if they had never existed. This
horrendous stretch in Argentine history showcased various human rights violations, corrupt leaders,
United States backed coup, death and a need for reform in a country that was broken and dismayed.
The Argentine Dirty War was a deadly tumultuous war that struck the country sort of by surprise
forcing many to abandon their homeland. It all started with Isabel Peron becoming the first female
president of Argentina after her husband was forced out due to illness where he received around the
clock care. Although there were many Peronist supporters in favor of her rule, there was a growing
insurgency to overthrow her corrupt regime. Her regime inherited problems of inflation, labour unrest,

Genghis Khan, first known as Temujin, was the son of a leader of a Mongolian tribe. He was brought

commander, who achieved unprecedented success in setting Ghengis Khanup an Empire which
stretched across Europe and Asia. His Mongol armies left a trail of fear, death and destruction. But, he
also created a vibrant empire with a common language, booming trade, tolerance of religion and some
basic customs and laws( Pettinger., 2010). Arguably the most famous Asian of the last 2,000 years,

Instil a level of discipline within your organization such that you will do so much better in whatever
your industry is in. Really, no management technique or framework can replace the power of simple
discipline. At no single, crucial moment in his life did he suddenly acquire his genius at warfare, his
ability to inspire the loyalty of his followers, or his unprecedented skill for organizing on a global
scale. These derived not from epiphanic enlightenment or formal schooling but from a persistent cycle
of pragmatic learning, experimental adaptation and constant revision driven by his uniquely
disciplined mind and focused will(Ryan, 2012). When battling the nomadic tribes of Mongolia, Khan
would prepare several military tactics and traps before that before facing off with his enemy. He was

Identity Theft Is An Important Factor
Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else s identity, usually as a method to gain a financial
advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the other person s name, and perhaps to the other
person s disadvantage or loss. The person whose identity has been assumed may suffer adverse
consequences if they are held responsible for the perpetrator s actions. Identity theft occurs when
someone uses another s personally identifying information, like their name, identifying number, or
credit card number, without their permission, to commit fraud or other crimes.
When people think of identity theft, more often than not they assume that it only happens to wealthy
people. Who would bother stealing the identity of a college student who can barely make ends meet?
The harsh reality of the matter is that anyone can be a victim. College students are particularly
vulnerable, because they are most likely to be careless or unaware where their credit reports are
concerned. The fact that they don t expect to be targeted by identity thieves is an important factor. The
more you know, the more you are able to prevent identity theft from happening to you. According to
the US Federal Trade Commission, majority of the reports they receive on identity theft were filed by
victims aged 20 to 29.
Take note of these eight types of identity theft and protect yourself.
1.) Financial Identity Theft
Financial ID Theft When people hear the words identity theft , often times

The Story of J.D. Salinger
The Story of J. D. Salinger J. D. Salinger became one of the most popular and known American
authors in America today. Up to this day students from all over the country have read and purchased
the novel The Catcher in the Rye which was a novel that was not so long ago controversial due to
vulgar language, sexual references, and unacceptable behavior; parents were concerned that J. D.
Salinger s novel was going to influence their children. Salinger was one of many authors that stood
out more from a group of authors that wrote simply about society. Salinger on the other hand criticised
the society by using the word phony most of the time. The word phony meant fake, false, and
fraudulent and by the 1950 s the word became used more and more frequently. Some of Salinger s
famous pieces of work like Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, The Catcher in the Rye , and Raise High
the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction presented themes such as love, war, death,
and the reminiscing of something. The themes widely connected to J. D. Salinger by reason of his
personal experiences and character traits . The success of J. D. Salinger was reached by personally
experiencing the drafting to war and actively writing about his surroundings.
Jerome David Salinger, the talented author born in New York had a decent stable life growing up with
both of his parents and sister. Jerome David Salinger lived comfortable throughout his childhood.

A Comparison of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A...
Use of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A Doll s House
There are many links between Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and A Doll s House, by
Henrik Isben. Each character goes through many ironic situations. Throughout both of the works
dramatic, situational, and verbal irony are used.
Dramatic irony is used throughout Crime and Punishment. The reader knows that Rodion
Romanovitch Raskolnikov killed the pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna, and her sister, Lizaveta Ivanovna.
A quote to support this is,
He took the axe right out, swung it up in both hands, barely conscious of what he was doing, and
almost without effort, almost effort, almost mechanically, brought the butt of it down on the old
woman s head. (Dostoyevsky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Doll s House the reader is aware that Nora borrowed money from Krogstad without her husband
s permission. Nora also forged her father s name to gain the money. She says, You don t know all. I
forged a name. (Isben 44) In the following conversation between Nora and Christine it is clearly stated
that Torvald does not know of Nora s actions: Mrs. Linde. And since then have you never told your
secret to your husband? Nora. Good heavens, no! (Isben 13)
Another example of dramatic irony in A Doll s House is when Nora wants to practice a dance called
the Tarantella. When Torvald goes to look in the letter box Nora says, Torvald please don t. There is
nothing in there. (Isben 46) The reader knows that Nora has not forgotten the dance. The reader knows
this when Torvald goes to check the mail and Nora begins to play the Tarantella. Nora then says, I can
t dance to morrow if I don t practise with you. (Isben 46) The reader knows that all Nora is trying to
do is keep Torvald from reading the mail which contains a letter from Krogstad.
Situational irony is also used throughout the two works. In Crime and Punishment Raskolnikov is the
one who murdered the two sisters. It was totally unexpected when Nikolai came to

The Bourne Trilogy The Bourne Trilogy is a series of three different movies, The Bourne Identity, the

had a raging storm stirring up, when a commercial fishing ship came to spot a drifting body among the
waves. This mysterious man had taken two gunshot wounds, and the ship s cook and skipper took care
of him. The cook later located a strange laser type light in the patient s hip, which when projected; it

with amnesia, and was unable to remember anything prior to when he awoke on the ship. Even though
he was suffering from amnesia, he was still able to speak many languages, read, and write. Once the
ship reached Zurich, the unknown man set out to find the safe deposit box. In Langley, Virginia, CIA

Ⅰ. Painter of all Painters
I would rather be the first painter of common things than second in higher art , Diego Velázquez. A

The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against...
There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy
Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F.
Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the
pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing
grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and
wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not
impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of
lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you
know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!!
This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges
refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also
willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare
decisis, in the pursuit of justice.
With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our
course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the
cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or

but for the future of our country. Before voting for an individual, I look to see how he or she plans to

All Quiet On The Western Front, By Erich Maria Remarque
Throughout history, war between man has been nearly inevitable. The impact of war has always been
devastating on all aspects. However, loss in war is mostly seen within the loss of land, wealth and the
numbers of lives lost. There are few accounts of the true losses felt from war, the loss felt by the
survivors and the true cost of human life. In the excerpt from All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich
Maria Remarque, illustrates the impact on human life and question what the cost of human life was
impacted. While Vera Brittain memoir of Memory and Battlefield Tourism, recounts her pain felt as a
survivor. The cost of war is not only a calculated number, it has a long lasting effect on the survivors.

Vera Brittain was an English writer who served as a nurse during World War I. Nearly directly after
the war, tours of the battlefields began. Brittain goes on a tour in Italy in 1921 to find her brother s
gravesite. She recounts the pain she feels due to the loss of her brother, fiancé and many if her friends.
As she walks through the rows of graves on an Italian plateau, Brittain describes the peaceful life her
brother lived before the war. His life was calm and safe in an uneventful town in England, but he
ended up dying in an extremely bloody war in the country sides of Italy. Brittain finds her brother s
grave and is overcome with sadness, she wishes to stay at her brother s side so she does not have to
return to her trivial life as a survivor. She states that at least there with her brother, there is a sense of
peace and dignity that the survivors do not have now. After the war, the people who survived were left
without fathers or husbands and there were very few people able to return to the work force. Within
both excerpts, the pain felt from war is showcased in a more personal way. It is not about the
demographics of the loss but how the war truly impacted the lives of people. While Remarque s
excerpt focused more on the suffering of the soldiers, he also makes it apparent that there will be
suffering after the war. And Brittain showcases exactly what the

Henry David Thoreau Joys Of Simple Life
Henry David Thoreau waxed poetic about the joys of the simple life. He lauded those in poverty for
their humility, self reliance, and the bare bones life they live. He came up with his ideas while
conducting an experiment: he spent two years living in isolation on Walden pond, connecting himself
with nature and giving him time to ponder his ideals. That s all well and good. The problem is, frankly
I disagree with some of the ideas he came up with. In fact I am of the opinion that some of them are
outright problematic. Let s discuss them. First, Thoreau seems to have put the poor on a pedestal. He
says, The shadows of poverty and meanness gather around us, and lo! Creation widens our view
Moreover if you are restricted in your range by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have a few problems with this. One, in these quotes and others he is basically saying that the poor
should be happy in their poverty, they have it so much better because they have it simple. Oh, they are
so humble, look at them accepting aid . This reeks of privilege. One of the things that rub me the
wrong way about the whole work is how Thoreau deals in extremes. He believes that life is at its best
when simple. I disagree in my opinion life is best experienced in a nuanced fashion; shades of grey
rather than black and white. Thoreau characterizes simplicity as the key to happiness, but what would
life be like if happiness was the sole emotion? PArt of what makes life worth living is the varied
experiences that come with the package. Yes, struggle is part of that package but it just makes the
indulgence all the richer. He makes his proposal based on experiences (how else?) and was influenced
by the time period, something to keep in mind. During that time period industrialization was rising up.
Sanitation was not a major concern and to be affluent was to be a slave owner. Equality was not the
norm. It s easy to see how one would become cynical. These facts inevitably influenced his
worldview. At the time of Thoreau s experiment, rural living was the environment most

Examples Of Archetype In Beowulf
Beowulf was an epic poem that embodied many of the themes of the time period that it was written.
Many ideas such as the obsession was wealth, power, and fame are well documented throughout
history. While Beowulf was certainly fiction, there is no reason that the unknown creator of the epic
would not have taken elements from the surrounding culture to enrich the story. This theory would
justify the recurring elements of masculine male warriors and a lack of women as anything other than

When using reader response criticism, a comparison to modern entertainment could be invaluable.
Investopedia.com will be used to present evidence that humans enjoy thrilling entertainment by citing
box office sale for action films. It would be logical to come to the conclusion that humans would keep
the same basic reaction to entertainment. After all, poems and books are meant for entertainment just
like films are today. To use reader response criticism on work that time has long since claimed the

Vertigo Patient
I went to my practicum site twice this week. Learning is the continuous process. Seeing variety of
patient with different chief complaints is helping me learn more about various diagnosis. I had a site
visit this week. My professor followed me with two patient; one had vertigo and other had back pain. I
was nervous because I never had vertigo patient before at the practicum site. One of the suggestion
provided by my preceptor was to bring my family practice guidelines book at practicum site to help
me with my HPI. I agree with her suggestion and I plan to bring family practice guidelines book
during my clinical.
The reasons for the visits were pink eye, rash around eye, upper respiratory infection, hypertension
and thyroid follow up, vertigo, seasonal allergy, back pain, corneal abrasion, chronic sinusitis, oral
contraceptive reevaluation, worried well and nausea. I have learnt from my experience so far that not
to make any assumption about the diagnosis only by chief complaints before seeing patient. This is
because with the vertigo patient at first I thought he might have BPPV but as I started to interview
patient, I realized that he had 1 episode of vertigo. His symptoms were mainly related to cerumen
impaction and seasonal allergy. For the patient with hypertension and thyroid follow up, her BP was
elevated but it was lower than the guidelines. She was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, for someone who was started on oral contraceptive pills, and having period before placebo

interesting to learn that there is a diagnosis called worried well for patient with feared health

ordered some labs (CBC, CMP, thyroid panel and liver panel) to help me find the cause of the

The Rise Of Sugar As A Commodity Essay
The rise of sugar as a commodity in England situated England as the world s leading consumer. The
increasing popularity of coffeehouses among middle class English people, as well the introduction of
tea from China, fueled the counties. England s growing interest in coffee and tea greatly increased the
demand for sugar leading to a significant effect on Africa and its people. The high English demand for
sugar required land to expand sugar plantations, and an efficient source of labor to produce, creating a
connection between all three. For example, if there was not enough demand, there would have been no
point in planting sugar and if cheap labor could not be obtained, it would not be worth doing so on
such a large scale because it would have been expensive and unprofitable. Since they had all these
contributing factors in their favor the British were able to gain profit from sugar plantations, which
worked as a significant contributor towards their economy. To meet the land requirements the British
picked their Caribbean colonies because of their control of that region and its climate. After finding
the land for plantations, England had to find the source of labor to work these plantations. The English
turned into Africa for cheap slave labor. The British had tried the local Caribbeans to work on the
plantations but these people were already affected by the diseases that were brought to the area by
Europeans. As a result, there were not many Caribbean people to work the

The Wife s Lament And Beowulf Comparison
When it comes to exile it s being banished from your everyday way of life away from civilization.
While being used in Beowulf, The Wife s Lament , and The Wanderer it gives the reader a somewhat
sympathetic insight of what s going on. In Beowulf, Grendel was born into exile because of his family
evil doings. The Wife s Lament is separated from her lover and banished to exile to live without her
lover. In The Wanderer a battle begins and he loses all of his kinsmen and then he becomes living in
exile. In Beowulf the setting takes place in The Hall of Herot . Hrothgar who is king of his people the
Danes gives celebrations, treasures, and gifts to his Danes people which show bonds of kinship. The
Hall of Herot represents fun, laughter, parties for the Danes. Then there is another region outside of
The Hall of Herot which is the complete opposite made up of moors, wild marshes, and fog. They

Federal Express Case
Company Analysis:
Courier Pak is an underrated service that is provided by FEC. Its profit margin is higher than all the
other services provided (66%), and has huge growth potential. It has both great speed and reliability,
making a service worth promoting.
Customer Analysis:
Currently, executives and their assistants are mainly using CP. The top three industries that use CP are
Manufacturing and distribution, Advertising, and Printing and publishing. According to Exhibit 6, the
market size of emergency, rush, or special handling delivery of small items/documents was around
870,000 per day.
CPs are economically viable. Sales currently average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding 4700 more daily CP would amount to $38,775 in profits per day, assuming a profit margin
$8.25.
Competition:
Competition for CP lies in the Emergency and Rush services. Emergency services received maximum
speed and was the most costly. Purolator Courier Corporation, Shulman Sky Cab, Delta Dash are all
companies that provide the service. However, the average Emergency service cost was $30, and CPs
cost significantly lower. The average Rush cost was around $10, and although CPs are most
expensive, they are at a competitive price by offering competitive advantages. The most specific
service competitor is U.S. Postal Service s Express Mail, which costs $6.00 per package.
How should FEC market CP? Which industries should FEC focus on?
FEC should market to those who are not Executives, as they already have them as customers, but
rather any and all industries. The Manufacturing and Distributing industry uses the most CP monthly,
and we would like to see the other similar industries use just as much. Any industry that transports
small goods can utilize the service.
The 5 minimum purchase costs $62.50, which creates a barrier for those who are willing and able to
send something within a tight time constraint. Envelopes should be provided for free, and charged
upon the actual service of mailing out the package. Corporations enjoy flexibility. We believe that CPs
should be marketed as a product that is great for reliability and speed, making a point that they

The Murder Of A Green Light
Chief Justice Bird dissented with the majority that second degree murder should not be applied that
believes that the prosecution had to prove two elements of implied malice which are an intent to kill
and a conscious disregard with life. She believes that the majority fail to show the existence of these
two elements in this case. The facts showed that the act of speeding through a green light can be
dangerous, but it is not an act likely to cause the death of another individual. Also, it was 1 a.m. and
the witness testified that there was no other cars around. She compares the defendant s actions to those
of the defendants in People v. Fuller (1978). In this case, the defendants fled from the police during an
attempted auto burglary and began to drive on the wrong side of the road. This happened in an early
Sunday morning, so many cars had to swerve and avoid the defendants. They ran a redlight and went
through two police cars that were trying to block him off. They ran a second red light and hit a car
which resulted in the driver s death. Chief Justice Bird compares the facts of that case to this one. She
compares how in this case the defendant did not run a red light where the collision occurred and the
streets were empty since it was 1 a.m. She does agree that driving while being under the influence
does make driving more dangerous and can cause more accidents, but he does not believe that driving
under the influence is not enough evidence to establish an act to kill

Elements Of Satire In Candide
Glass half empty, glass half full, who cares as long as there is water? Pessimistic or optimistic,
Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in 1756,
the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its
publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candide is a
literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical
devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to
expand their education and critically analyze the world around them.
Voltaire wrote Candide after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, France, critiquing the Church s and other
philosophers declaration that All is well . While other philosophers of the time, such as Jean Jacques
Rousseau and Leibnitz believed that God s plan was perfect and that humanity s downfall was
civilization, Voltaire maintained that civilization would make people better. In a letter to Jean Jacques
Rousseau, Voltaire argued, What we need is more, not less, civilisation. This cannot be obtained
except through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This literary tactic makes the book a fascinating study on satyr. Throughout Candide, events are
described simply and without the swell of emotion, making horrible events appear nonchalant and
unimportant. This exaggerates the simplicity of the philosophy that all is well (Aldington; 4). At the
same time, Candide uses hyperbole to point out contradictions of nobility, the Baron Thunder ten
tronckh is introduced as one of the most powerful lords in Westphilia however in the same sentence,
the reader is told that his castle possessed a door and windows. His Great Hall was even decorated
with a piece of tapestry (Aldington; 4). Candide provides an excellent opportunity to learn important

David Kolb s Framework Of Experiential Learning
A big proponent of ESL learning, what my case study consists of, can be compared to David Kolb s
framework of experiential learning. Kolb s experiential learning cycle features four stages: the
concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation, and active experimentation.
The first stage, concrete experience, involves doing or having an experience. The second stage,
reflective observation, involves reviewing or reflecting on the experience. The third stage, abstract
conceptualisation, involves concluding or learning from the experience. The fourth stage, active
experimentation, involves planning or trying out what you learned. ISLA, which stands for Immersion

An Old Man With Enormous Wings, By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s short story An old man with enormous wings written in 1955 discusses an
old man who is found by two villagers named Pelayo and Elisenda in their courtyard. This particular
man is described as an old, poor man, with enormous wings, who speaks an incomprehensible dialect
with a strong sailor s voice (451). Many people think he is angel as the neighbor woman said: he s an
angel, he must have being coming for the child (Pelayo and Elisenda s newborn baby who had been
sick) but the poor fellow is so old that the rain knocked him down (452). Others like Father Gonzaga
think he is someone sent by the devil because he did not understand the language of god or how to
greet the minister (452). The doctor thinks he is a human like everyone else but what surprises him
more was that why other men didn t have wings like him (455). For Pelayo an Elisenda the angel is
actually someone who came to change their lives. The angel makes significant changes once he

The villagers look at the angel in a weird and awkward way as someone who sticks out from everyone
else. I interpret they have never seen someone with wings but also Pelayo and Elisenda see him more
as a circus animal EN CAMBIO the villagers see him as and odd phenomenon ( Community ) as
Ronald E. McFarland suggests in his critical essay. This story can be compared to The Minister s
Black Veil: A Parable by Nathain Hawthorne as how Mr. Hooper is also seen weird because he is
wearing a black veil. People think he is wearing it because he has something to hide. The angel is a
human too, the only thing that distinguishes him are his wings and what distinguishes Mr. Hooper

Sin In The Scarlett Letter
In the Scarlet Letter, Hester was punished for her sin, she had to wear the letter A on her chest. The A
on her chest stood for Adultery, Hester had to stand in front of the town s people where she was
constantly judged by them. James 4:12 reads There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is
able to save and destroy. But you who are you to judge your neighbor ? The bible also states that
whoever is without sin throw the first stone meaning that everyone sins. If the world had to wear their
sin, people would be judgmental, compare or help others through their sin, asked for forgiveness yet
still have to wear your sin lastly, if everyone had to wear their sin, the world would be a less secretive
place.
Hester committed adultery after her husband left her for a long period of time, she found love with the
towns minister Dimmesdale. She later realized she was pregnant, when walking into the prison she
walked passed a wild rose berry bush which later became pearl. The town s people treated Hester and
pearl so badly dismissing them from the community. Judging others ... Show more content on

nature to compare and Judge others some use comparing to make them feel better as a person. We are
all a bunch of different looking sinners in the need of the same looking cross and the same God. To

The Perception Of Beauty Has Changed Over Time
The perception of beauty has changed over time, and it has become more and more apparent that
individuals with a slim, athletic physic are the more desired. It was not until the late nineteenth
century that individuals began to turn to diet pills to help assist in their weight loss journey. The first
dietary pill became available to people during this time, and there are referred to as, fat reducers, the
basis on thyroid extract helped increase metabolic rate. The pills were believed to be an effective form
of weight decline. However, this was proven to be otherwise and only caused severe to chronic side
effects including increased heart rate, abnormal heartbeats, weakness, fatigue, chest pains, high blood
pressure, and even death. Although the risks were significant, this early form of weight management
had been available among individuals until the mid 1960. As this type of weight loss continued, in the
1930 s amphetamines had become the drug of preference. The stimulant was most popular because
soldiers were administered the drug during World War II to keep them alert. One of the major critical
side effects was appetite suppression, and the drug was being prescribed in the United States to assist
people to lose weight. The highly addictive drug had caused some rather adverse psychological and
neurological effects making these side effects more significant than the primary intention of weight
loss. Resulting in the prescription of aminorex fumarate, which was a treatment

  • 3. A Short Note On Melanoma And Prostate Cancer Allenmar Sicsic Fall 2014 Carcinoma of the prostate, commonly known as prostate cancer, is a diagnosis of a malignant tumor (adenocarcinoma) of the prostate gland (Chabner). The prostate is a significant muscular organ that belongs to the male reproductive system. Approximately the size of a walnut, the prostate is located at the base of the bladder and in front of the rectum (Prostate Gland). In conjunction to the seminal vesicles and the Cowper s glands, the prostate secretes fluids that contain sperm which is transported into the female reproductive tract for fertilization (Prostate Gland). The vas deferens is a tube that carries sperm from the testes and secretions from the seminal vesicles to the prostate. After the sperm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, prostate cancer symptoms may be asymptomatic during the beginning stages. Therefore, all males over the age of 50 should have routine physical examinations because it is only through some or all of the following tests that prostate cancer can be detected early. The first test I will be discussing is called the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), which entails the doctor placing a gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum in order to feel for any lumps in the prostate (Cherath). Most prostate tumors start in the posterior area of the prostate, hence why the rectum is examined due to its location being behind the prostate gland. This type of pre screening is less efficient than a PSA test, however, it can help men who have normal PSA levels and still have tumors. If the doctor feels there is a need for further testing after a DRE then he/she may request other tests to confirm the findings. Furthermore, the most common and routine blood test that helps detect prostate cancer is the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This blood test is used to measure the amounts of PSA circulating in the blood (Cherath). PSA is a protein made by the cells lining the prostate gland, and normal levels of this are 4.0 ng/mL and lower. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Cultural Blockade in Khaled Hosseini´s The Kite Runner I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran. In Khaled Hosseini s, The Kite Runner, Amir, the young protagonist, lives a lavish lifestyle with his father, Baba. Until the Soviets invade and the Taliban become the dominant influence in Afghanistan. Amir s sumptuous lifestyle comes to an end, and the values of not only his father but also his society begin to impact him and he realizes how much he does not belong in his own culture. Amir is taught the virtues of being a good man, however when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During a routine checkpoint, the truck driver gave the Russian soldier a payment from all of the passengers for safe travel. Although, the soldier wanted more than just money he also wanted to ravage one of the woman in the truck. Amir is very frightened by the soldier and especially by his gun. Baba begins to converse with the soldier asking for decency. I want you to ask this man something, Baba said. He said it to Karim, but looked directly at the Russian officer. Ask him where his shame is. They spoke. He says this is war. There is no shame in war. Tell him he s wrong. War doesn t negate decency. It demands it, even more than in times of peace. (Hosseini 115). Amir is bewildered his father would risk his own life for a stranger. He even tries to stop Baba from speaking up to the soldier. This shows the contrast between Baba and Amir. Amir knows how courageous his father is and feels guilty because he does not exhibit the same behavior. Amir does not begin to show his inner bravery until many years later when he has his realization. Amir is faced with many challenges in his life, but there are two major life changing realizations he goes through. The first, being the change from his opulent lifestyle to fleeing from Afghanistan and Pakistan for refuge. During Amir s childhood, Amir took for granted his father s wealth. • 5. Supply Chain of Blood and Products in a Blood Bank The objective of this case study is 1. To study the existing supply chain of blood and blood products in a regional blood bank 2. To identify cost and risk related problems in the supply chain of blood and blood products and to develop a solution for cost and risk minimization. BACKGROUND Human blood is not an ordinary commodity because it cannot be substituted and its need will always exist. Blood and blood products are also perishable, which complicates things even further. Shortages lead to high costs for society and outdates on the other hand are not commonly accepted either, since blood donors are a scarce asset of society and donors must respect a certain time period between two donations, depending on the type of donation. Blood Bank services are a key component of the healthcare system all over the world and a well organised Blood Transfusion Service is a vital component of any health care delivery system and yet the study and the analysis of such systems from a supply chain perspective have been a few especially in India. The National Blood Policy of India aims to ensure easily accessible and adequate supply of safe and quality blood and blood components, which is free from transfusion transmitted infections, and is stored and transported under optimum conditions. This case study examines the supply chain of a specific type of perishable product i.e. Human Blood and Blood Product in a Regional Blood Bank, from the point of collection as a whole blood to the point ... • 6. Myth Of The Good Guy With A Gun Analysis Both texts suggest that the increase of gun population leads to a violent result. Although, both consider the same outcomes, the Blood Drive is more effective in the thought of violence, rather than helping keep people safe. The Myth of the Good Guy with a Gun is a good source of information, using logos as its type of persuasion, the evidence/examples are statistics and numbers that express the idea that guns aren t used for good. The Blood Drive uses pathos, a persuasion that emphasises the emotion of the audience. In this case, logos is a better expression for this topic because the question is asking for an increase in population of violence, a number. • 9. The Mexican War Of Argentina Throughout Argentina and as well other Central American countries during that of the late 1970 s, many were going through severe political upheaval. This political catastrophe coupled with various human rights violations pushed many people to the edge and out of their homeland. Economically drained and scared for their lives Argentines sought freedom and asylum within the United States. For many this was the start of something new in a foreign country with people that speak a foreign language. Courage and bravery those are two words that in my eyes describe an immigrant that has been forced to endure so much that they leave everything they had ever known. The Dirty War of Argentina caused families to be ripped apart and people to vanish as if they had never existed. This horrendous stretch in Argentine history showcased various human rights violations, corrupt leaders, United States backed coup, death and a need for reform in a country that was broken and dismayed. The Argentine Dirty War was a deadly tumultuous war that struck the country sort of by surprise forcing many to abandon their homeland. It all started with Isabel Peron becoming the first female president of Argentina after her husband was forced out due to illness where he received around the clock care. Although there were many Peronist supporters in favor of her rule, there was a growing insurgency to overthrow her corrupt regime. Her regime inherited problems of inflation, labour unrest, and political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genghis Khan was a fierce and brilliant military commander, who achieved unprecedented success in setting Ghengis Khanup an Empire which stretched across Europe and Asia. His Mongol armies left a trail of fear, death and destruction. But, he also created a vibrant empire with a common language, booming trade, tolerance of religion and some basic customs and laws( Pettinger., 2010). Arguably the most famous Asian of the last 2,000 years, Genghis Khan created an empire that was more than twice the size of any other conqueror s in history, and that endured for more than a century and a half after ... These derived not from epiphanic enlightenment or formal schooling but from a persistent cycle of pragmatic learning, experimental adaptation and constant revision driven by his uniquely disciplined mind and focused will(Ryan, 2012). • 11. Identity Theft Is An Important Factor Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else s identity, usually as a method to gain a financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the other person s name, and perhaps to the other person s disadvantage or loss. The person whose identity has been assumed may suffer adverse consequences if they are held responsible for the perpetrator s actions. Identity theft occurs when someone uses another s personally identifying information, like their name, identifying number, or credit card number, without their permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. When people think of identity theft, more often than not they assume that it only happens to wealthy people. Who would bother stealing the identity of a college student who can barely make ends meet? The harsh reality of the matter is that anyone can be a victim. College students are particularly vulnerable, because they are most likely to be careless or unaware where their credit reports are concerned. The fact that they don t expect to be targeted by identity thieves is an important factor. The more you know, the more you are able to prevent identity theft from happening to you. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, majority of the reports they receive on identity theft were filed by victims aged 20 to 29. Take note of these eight types of identity theft and protect yourself. 1.) Financial Identity Theft Financial ID Theft When people hear the words identity theft , often times ... Up to this day students from all over the country have read and purchased the novel The Catcher in the Rye which was a novel that was not so long ago controversial due to vulgar language, sexual references, and unacceptable behavior; parents were concerned that J. D. Salinger s novel was going to influence their children. Salinger was one of many authors that stood out more from a group of authors that wrote simply about society. Salinger on the other hand criticised the society by using the word phony most of the time. The word phony meant fake, false, and fraudulent and by the 1950 s the word became used more and more frequently. Some of Salinger s famous pieces of work like Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, The Catcher in the Rye , and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction presented themes such as love, war, death, and the reminiscing of something. The themes widely connected to J. D. Salinger by reason of his personal experiences and character traits . The success of J. D. Salinger was reached by personally experiencing the drafting to war and actively writing about his surroundings. Use of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A Doll s House There are many links between Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and A Doll s House, by Henrik Isben. Each character goes through many ironic situations. Throughout both of the works dramatic, situational, and verbal irony are used. Dramatic irony is used throughout Crime and Punishment. The reader knows that Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov killed the pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna, and her sister, Lizaveta Ivanovna. A quote to support this is, He took the axe right out, swung it up in both hands, barely conscious of what he was doing, and almost without effort, almost effort, almost mechanically, brought the butt of it down on the old woman s head. And since then have you never told your secret to your husband? Nora. Good heavens, no! (Isben 13) Another example of dramatic irony in A Doll s House is when Nora wants to practice a dance called the Tarantella. When Torvald goes to look in the letter box Nora says, Torvald please don t. There is nothing in there. (Isben 46) The reader knows that Nora has not forgotten the dance. The reader knows this when Torvald goes to check the mail and Nora begins to play the Tarantella. Nora then says, I can t dance to morrow if I don t practise with you. (Isben 46) The reader knows that all Nora is trying to do is keep Torvald from reading the mail which contains a letter from Krogstad. Situational irony is also used throughout the two works. The Bourne Identity The Mediterranean Sea had a raging storm stirring up, when a commercial fishing ship came to spot a drifting body among the waves. This mysterious man had taken two gunshot wounds, and the ship s cook and skipper took care of him. There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F. Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!! This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare decisis, in the pursuit of justice. With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or ... However, loss in war is mostly seen within the loss of land, wealth and the numbers of lives lost. There are few accounts of the true losses felt from war, the loss felt by the survivors and the true cost of human life. In the excerpt from All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, illustrates the impact on human life and question what the cost of human life was impacted. Nearly directly after the war, tours of the battlefields began. Brittain goes on a tour in Italy in 1921 to find her brother s gravesite. She recounts the pain she feels due to the loss of her brother, fiancé and many if her friends. As she walks through the rows of graves on an Italian plateau, Brittain describes the peaceful life her brother lived before the war. His life was calm and safe in an uneventful town in England, but he ended up dying in an extremely bloody war in the country sides of Italy. Brittain finds her brother s grave and is overcome with sadness, she wishes to stay at her brother s side so she does not have to return to her trivial life as a survivor. She states that at least there with her brother, there is a sense of peace and dignity that the survivors do not have now. After the war, the people who survived were left without fathers or husbands and there were very few people able to return to the work force. Within both excerpts, the pain felt from war is showcased in a more personal way. It is not about the demographics of the loss but how the war truly impacted the lives of people. While Remarque s excerpt focused more on the suffering of the soldiers, he also makes it apparent that there will be suffering after the war. And Brittain showcases exactly what the ... • 20. Henry David Thoreau Joys Of Simple Life Henry David Thoreau waxed poetic about the joys of the simple life. He lauded those in poverty for their humility, self reliance, and the bare bones life they live. He came up with his ideas while conducting an experiment: he spent two years living in isolation on Walden pond, connecting himself with nature and giving him time to ponder his ideals. That s all well and good. The problem is, frankly I disagree with some of the ideas he came up with. In fact I am of the opinion that some of them are outright problematic. Let s discuss them. First, Thoreau seems to have put the poor on a pedestal. He says, The shadows of poverty and meanness gather around us, and lo! One, in these quotes and others he is basically saying that the poor should be happy in their poverty, they have it so much better because they have it simple. Oh, they are so humble, look at them accepting aid . This reeks of privilege. One of the things that rub me the wrong way about the whole work is how Thoreau deals in extremes. He believes that life is at its best when simple. I disagree in my opinion life is best experienced in a nuanced fashion; shades of grey rather than black and white. Thoreau characterizes simplicity as the key to happiness, but what would life be like if happiness was the sole emotion? PArt of what makes life worth living is the varied experiences that come with the package. Yes, struggle is part of that package but it just makes the indulgence all the richer. He makes his proposal based on experiences (how else?) and was influenced by the time period, something to keep in mind. During that time period industrialization was rising up. Many ideas such as the obsession was wealth, power, and fame are well documented throughout history. While Beowulf was certainly fiction, there is no reason that the unknown creator of the epic would not have taken elements from the surrounding culture to enrich the story. This theory would justify the recurring elements of masculine male warriors and a lack of women as anything other than wives or bargaining chips. • 23. The Rise Of Sugar As A Commodity Essay The rise of sugar as a commodity in England situated England as the world s leading consumer. The increasing popularity of coffeehouses among middle class English people, as well the introduction of tea from China, fueled the counties. England s growing interest in coffee and tea greatly increased the demand for sugar leading to a significant effect on Africa and its people. The high English demand for sugar required land to expand sugar plantations, and an efficient source of labor to produce, creating a connection between all three. For example, if there was not enough demand, there would have been no point in planting sugar and if cheap labor could not be obtained, it would not be worth doing so on such a large scale because it would have been expensive and unprofitable. Since they had all these contributing factors in their favor the British were able to gain profit from sugar plantations, which worked as a significant contributor towards their economy. To meet the land requirements the British picked their Caribbean colonies because of their control of that region and its climate. After finding the land for plantations, England had to find the source of labor to work these plantations. The English turned into Africa for cheap slave labor. The British had tried the local Caribbeans to work on the plantations but these people were already affected by the diseases that were brought to the area by Europeans. Purolator Courier Corporation, Shulman Sky Cab, Delta Dash are all companies that provide the service. However, the average Emergency service cost was $30, and CPs cost significantly lower. The average Rush cost was around $10, and although CPs are most expensive, they are at a competitive price by offering competitive advantages. The most specific service competitor is U.S. Postal Service s Express Mail, which costs $6.00 per package. How should FEC market CP? Which industries should FEC focus on? FEC should market to those who are not Executives, as they already have them as customers, but rather any and all industries. The Manufacturing and Distributing industry uses the most CP monthly, and we would like to see the other similar industries use just as much. Any industry that transports small goods can utilize the service. The Murder Of A Green Light Chief Justice Bird dissented with the majority that second degree murder should not be applied that believes that the prosecution had to prove two elements of implied malice which are an intent to kill and a conscious disregard with life. She believes that the majority fail to show the existence of these two elements in this case. The facts showed that the act of speeding through a green light can be dangerous, but it is not an act likely to cause the death of another individual. Also, it was 1 a.m. and the witness testified that there was no other cars around. She compares the defendant s actions to those of the defendants in People v. Fuller (1978). In this case, the defendants fled from the police during an attempted auto burglary and began to drive on the wrong side of the road. This happened in an early Sunday morning, so many cars had to swerve and avoid the defendants. They ran a redlight and went through two police cars that were trying to block him off. They ran a second red light and hit a car which resulted in the driver s death. Chief Justice Bird compares the facts of that case to this one. She compares how in this case the defendant did not run a red light where the collision occurred and the streets were empty since it was 1 a.m. She does agree that driving while being under the influence does make driving more dangerous and can cause more accidents, but he does not believe that driving under the influence is not enough evidence to establish an act to kill ... Pessimistic or optimistic, Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in 1756, the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candide is a literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to expand their education and critically analyze the world around them. Voltaire wrote Candide after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, France, critiquing the Church s and other philosophers declaration that All is well . While other philosophers of the time, such as Jean Jacques Rousseau and Leibnitz believed that God s plan was perfect and that humanity s downfall was civilization, Voltaire maintained that civilization would make people better.
