Lab Report 1 The Solar System During our first lab in Astronomy, we got to develop
and perform a hands on experiment of the overall scale of our Solar System. We got
to physically interact by demonstrating and constructing a model of our Solar System
by using a simple tool such as toilet paper. Who knew? We used the toilet paper
shown in the pictures as a visual representation to illustrate the overall scale of the
Solar System, to show the distance between each individual planet, and to represent
the distances of each planet from the Sun. We physically counted out each piece or
sheet of toilet paper to reach the destination of which the next or neighboring planet
was from its neighboring planet. We started with the Sun, then Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, until we finally reached our final planet,
Neptune. We drew dots to represent each planet. In our lab activity, we created and
demonstrated a relative scale model to show how the planets are aligned and the
distance between each of them. We created this model, so that we could better
understand the overall sizes of each planet and the distances of each of the planets
from the Sun. First, we used the model distance formula, which is model
distance=0.25 inches/1,391,900 km * actual distance in km. We used this formula to

Herodotus versus de Vaca Throughout the course of the world, there have been many
great civilizations that have risen and fallen from power. Many of these civilizations
are remembered not only through the texts or works that they themselves produced,

historian, because he wrote about a civilization of old, de Vaca was a historian of

references to his native people the Greeks. De Vaca mainly covered the Avavares, a
tribe in modern day Texas who existed from 1527 1534 according to most
historians. The Avavares were short lived as they were often conquered by more

Time can be a thinker s most thought provoking yet infuriating concept to grasp.
Infinitely complex, time plays a crucial role in everyone s life. We do not know
much about it, other than that it is there. What is before time or after time? Most
movies move through a linear fashion. There is a beginning, middle, and end.
Narrativestructure can slightly be bended or modified, but for the most part it
follows the same basic formula. The movie Memento (2000), directed by Christopher
Nolan, follows Leonard Shelby, the main character with short term memory loss,
trying to avenge his fallen spouse. He only remembers up until the time his head was
bashed into a mirror after his spouse was sexually assaulted. The movie is told in a
unique way through two stories that do not make complete sense until the end.
Memento s unconventional narrative structure puts the audience into Leonard s
shoes, which is apparent in the movie s convoluted flashbacks, out of sequence story,
and bleak ending.
One of the most conventional uses of a flashback is to give the viewer some answers
through back story. In Memento, the audience is getting information thrown at them,
but it is confusing and mysterious. It invites the viewer to ask more questions rather
than answer questions. Nolan does this intentionally, so that the audience relates to

My Trip At Penn State
About a year ago, in an effort to make that summer the best one of our lives, my
sister and I decided to embark on a road trip from Miami to Tallahassee. Not only
was it an opportunity to visit my cousin who lives there, but also it was going to be
a fun trip for my sister and I a chance for us to bond. I had just left my final
semester at Penn State a few weeks prior and regretting my decision not to take a
year off before attending college, I decided to take this time to make up for it. I ve
been to several places in the few years I ve had the privilege to travel, but watching
thousands of pines rolling in and out of view took my breath away. My sister
dipped her hand into the bag of French fries she had picked up at a rest stop a few
miles back. Remembering a few concepts from my undergraduate courses, I began

Cultural Changes From The 1960 S
Conrad Phillip Kottak has visited the small village of Arembepe numerous times
over the years. His visits were frequent, but spaced out over a couple years, which
caused him to begin to notice some very dramatic changes from the Arembepe he
came to know. The development of a more stratified society caused for some major
changes coming to the small community. This essay is going to address the major
cultural changes from the 1960 s to the 1980 s and whether or not the suburbanization
of this villagecommunity was good or bad.
Arembepe in the 1960 s consisted of only 159 households (730 people), which
made up the small village community. Malnutrition, poor public health, and high
infant mortality struck the village during this time. Traveling to and from
Arembepe proved difficult because it lacked paved roads. Hardly any people ever
visited the village, which is why Kottak often referred to it as being isolated from
the rest of the world. Having no electricity in the village also proved a real struggle
for communication to the outside world. 74% of men in Arembepe worked as
fishermen and 11% worked in business (Kottak 50). In order to make a good living,
it was very common for men to have more than one job. Women would cook, clean,
make items for fishing, and help run stores. Overall, Arembepe in the 1960 s was not
a stratified society, but that was soon going to change.
All Arembepeiros were baptized as Catholics, so prior to the 1980 s, Arembepe was
mostly ritual free.

American Family Culture
I was raised in the 50 s. My parents came from Europe after the war in 1948 and
began a new life with just the clothes on their back. They had some family here and
every holiday, birthday, and just some weekends in between we would get together.
By the 70 s in was already gradually starting to shift as high schoolseniors were
heading off all over the country expanding their horizons as they embarked on college
life. After college students embarked on new adventures stating their careers away
from their families. Although it seemed subtle at the time, now reflecting back it
seems loud and clear change has arrived. After high school I never moved back
home just like many of my friends and of course this included my cousins.
Eventually my aunts and uncles also moved to different states and everyone was all
over the place. To this day I miss those wholesome days and wished my child could
have had that experience growing up.

there were a few key components of advice that really stood out me to me. Upon
asking Stephanie about any times she felt threatened as a therapist she shared of it
