Project on Dtmf Based Home Automation
DTMF BASED HOME APPLIANCE CONTROL SUBMITTED BY ABSTRACT Traditionally
electrical appliances in a home are controlled via switches that regulate the electricity to these devices.
As the world gets more and more technologically advanced, we find new technology coming in deeper
and deeper into our personal lives even at home. Home automation is becoming more and more
popular around the world and is becoming a common practice. The process of home automation works
by making everything in the house automatically controlled using technology to control and do the
jobs that we would normally do manually. Home automation takes care of a lot of different activities
in the house. this project we propose a unique System for Home automation ... Show more content on

A microcontroller is a single chip that contains the processor (the CPU), non volatile memory for the
program (ROM or flash), volatile memory for input and output (RAM), a clock and an I/O control
unit. Also called a computer on a chip, billions of microcontroller units (MCUs) are embedded each
year in a myriad of products from toys to appliances to automobiles. For example, a single vehicle can
use 70 or more microcontrollers. The following picture describes a general block diagram of
microcontroller. AT89S52: The AT89S52 is a low power, high performance CMOS 8 bit
microcontroller with 8K bytes of in system programmable Flash memory. The device is manufactured
using Atmel s high density nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with the industry
standard 80C51 instruction set and pin out. The on chip Flash allows the program memory to be
reprogrammed in system or by a conventional nonvolatile memory programmer. By combining a
versatile 8 bit CPU with in system programmable Flash on a monolithic chip, the Atmel AT89S52 is a
powerful microcontroller, which provides a highly flexible and cost effective solution to many,

Benefits And Benefits Of Writing
Writing and its Benefits
The first phase in writing; invented spelling, is illustrated by Kelli, a first grader. Young children use
invented spelling as a vehicle to express their thoughts. When exposed to various types of print, or
writing; cereal boxes, signs, television, billboards, and any books that are read to them, the child will
mimic the sounds they hear of the words they wish to write. The writings may appear as scribbles or
unconventional writing to the viewer, but to the child it is meaningful, logical writing. The concern for
the parent and their child s invented style of spelling is that the child will later have difficulty
transitioning to a more standard, conventional style of spelling. The opposite is true, invented helps ...

As time passed, she progressed at reading and acknowledged ways of standard spellings. With teacher
encouragement, Kelli worked with her skill of invented spelling that lead her to spelling more words
correctly. Beth, a good speller who used invented spelling in the beginning of the school year, and at
the end of the school year progress had been seen in her standard writing skills; the g was used instead
of a j in gently and a y was used instead of an e in merrily . To help gauge this, teachers may
implement meaningful activities such as: songs or nursery rhymes. Less and less (as a child is
encouraged and given the freedom to use invented spelling, as they learn to pick up the sounds heard
in the words), they will seek help spelling words from the teacher, increasing their confidence level.
At some point the teacher may have the child share their writings with them or to another child, but
never putting any correction marks on their paper; instead the teacher will have the child say the word
or words in question and instruct the rest of the class to listen to a particular point (beginning, middle,
or end).

The Rapid Growth Of Population Essay
Introduction:
The reason I chose this topic is because in my country Ethiopia the rapid growth of population
alarmed me, just around the 1965 our population was very low however in the past few years it has
tripled form 20 million to over 100 million. This was when my interest in my countries population
developed. Population is one of the conversational topics when talking about a countries profile, in
view of the fact that it plays a huge role, in a countries work force, consumption and economy. I will
be collecting data and modelling them to predict the population for the next 5 to 10 years. I will also
be doing this for Kenya to see the relationship between the two countries to prove that this rapid
growth of population is happening not only in our country but in our neighboring countries too.
The data collected is imprecise because it is affected by many variables. The mortality rate of the
people in Ethiopia can affect my data highly. During this time Ethiopia had a high rate of migration,
this could also be included as one of the variables that have affected my data. I will be using this set of
data to draw a graph so that I can generate a model to represent this data so that I can use it to predict
the population after five years.

The Impact Of Modern Campaign Finance Laws On America
Campaign Finance
Introduction:
In 2011, two sociologists named Erik Olin Wright and Joel Rogers identified five core American
values: freedom, prosperity, efficiency, fairness, and democracy (Wright and Rogers). America s
numerous ideals inevitably cause these values to come into conflict each other. Such conflict
characterizes the debate over the implications of modern campaign finance laws in America. The
Supreme Court s ruling in Citizen s United v. FEC in 2010 undid former restrictions placed on how
money can be spent on federal political campaigns. Prior restrictions like the Federal Election
Campaign Act of 1971 and its amendments in 1974, placed limitations on political donations by
Political Action Committees (PACs), political parties, and even individuals. Originally these
restrictions were put in place to deter corruption that could undermine the democracy inherent in US
values and elections. The Supreme Court s ruling in 2010 revolutionized the scene by declaring that
independent expenditures are protected by the first amendment to the US Constitution. They further
asserted that for all intents and purposes corporations are legally viewed synonymous with people in
terms of political spending. The Supreme Court s ruling emphasized equality and freedom, but at what
cost? Critics, like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, suggest at the cost of democracy, and ultimately
corporate interests diminishing freedom in the long run. As a result of this case, more money is now

The Temporary Assistance For Needy Families
Abstract
This paper discusses the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program that was
established in 1996. It examines the development and goals of the policy as well as addresses the
target population that benefits from this program. A review of the agencies associated with TANF and
the benefits the program provides to its clients is also given. In addition, the funding sources of TANF
are addressed. Lastly, it examines the social issue this program is meant to address. Policy Paper 1:
Analysis of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program
Introduction
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a federally funded program that was created
to assist needy families in becoming self sufficient. According to the U.S. Department of Health
Human Services, TANF has four major purposes. (U.S. Department of Health Human Services, 2015)
The first is to provide assistance to needy families so that children can be cared for in their own homes
. The second is to reduce the dependency of needy parents by promoting job preparation, work and
marriage . The third is to prevent and reduce the incidence of out of wedlock pregnancies . The final
purpose is to encourage the formation and maintenance of two parent families . The Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families program allows the States flexibility in identifying criteria for the
populations served. However, there are a few general and federally imposed restrictions that are as
follows. States must

Titanic Film Analysis
Inside the setting of film industry, the film Titanic by James Cameron has a place with epic
sentiment/disaster sort. The movie, released in 1997, was a worldwide film industry hit because of the
fact that the director gave measure up to significance to history, fiction and sentiment. To be particular,
one can see that the film s plot depends on the historical background of RMS Titanic. On the opposite
side, the primary characters including the protagonist and the woman of courage (Jack Dawson and
Rose DeWitt Bukater) are fictive characters. Plus, the component of romance between the primary
characters (Jack and Rose) is the movie s fundamental attraction. The film uncovers the critical and
ramantic story of two young people, Jack Dawson and Rose Bukater who while on Titanic ship from
the shoreline of England to the United States, began to fall in love at first sight regardless of their
diverse social classes.
Jack Dawson was a youthful talented craftsman from a poor foundation, and Rose, a young lady
wedded to a wealthy yet savage more man who she doesn t love, experience a short emotional love
life. The film picture uncovers the idea of connections that exist in the general public, and whose
significance connected in the mid 20th century ,as well as which still sounds good right up till the
present time. A teenage young lady from a well off family can, today, get wedded to a poor kid from a
modest foundation as long as the two are attracted to each other.

REVITAHIP Study Essay
Introduction and aim
Hip fractures result in a number of health related problems and even mortality among older people.
Hypovitaminosis D is one of the prevalent issues related to hip fracture. The REVITAHIP study is a
trial with multisite and randomized control investigating the effect of an initial loading dose vitamin D
on recovery consequences after hip fracture surgery. The aim of the paper is to compare the
REVITAHIP study with other studies using vitamin D to improve the rehabilitation after hip fracture
surgery based on the assessed baseline characteristics of participants, with a focus on hypovitaminosis
D.
Methods
Demographic and clinical data of the involved participants were collected before the trial. The trial
randomly allocated the participants who were aged over 65, from public hospitals in Australia and had
a surgery demand within 7 days after hip fracture into two groups. The two groups were provided by a
loading dose of vitamin D3 or placebo, followed by receiving oral calcium vitamin D combination
tablets and regular recovery pathway. The hypothesis about the relations between baseline vitamin D
level and other variables was examined by Person chi square test, ANOVA and regression analysis.

of some participants was still normal. Furthermore, the participants taking psychotropic medications

An Examination Into The Respective Proofs Of St. Aquinas
An Examination into the Respective Proofs of St. Anselm and St. Aquinas During the Medieval
Period, philosophers shifted their focus primarily to proving the existence of God, as well as other
religious tenets. Two Saints of the Catholic Church, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas, developed
their own respective proofs for the existence of God. These proofs have gained fame over the
subsequent centuries and still face debate and comparison today. Although both St. Anselm and St.
Thomas Aquinas offer proofs for the existence of God, the proofs differ drastically due to the distinct
argumentative methods utilized by each author, as well as the differing overall strengths and
weaknesses each proof yields. To begin comparing the proofs, one must first state them. St. Anselm s
proof is most clearly described by defining God as that than which no greater can be conceived
(Melchert, 260). With this definition in mind, one can contemplate St. Augustine s Great Chain of
Being and realize that existence gives something more being, or more greatness, than non existence
(Melchert, 261). It follows, then, that we grasp an idea of God, which would be greater if it actually
existed, therefore it (our idea of God) exists. Anselm s definition of God and Augustine s theory of the
Great Chain of Being are the only requirements for Anselm s proof of the existence of God to work.
St. Thomas Aquinas actually posits five separate proofs, but due to length constraints, this paper will

Is A Dystopia Good Or Bad
Imagine your society was burning down. Fire everywhere. Every thing in chaos. People running
around like chickens with their heads cut off. Can you imagine that. Well that is similar, in it s own
ways, to a dystopia. You can basically have dystopia if everything is wrong and out of order.
A dystopia is a society that was made and planned out with good intentions and thoughts on it. Even
though it had good thoughts and all, it turns out to be a complete fail. Every thing is wrong. A dystopia
can actually be frightening. With all the scary side effects from it. Just think of a dystopia like this,
you are building a boat and you have finally finished after a few months of hard planning and
building. You go out to the water to test

And Of Clay Are We Created Summary
Omar N. Bradley, a senior officer of the United States Army once stated, Ours is a world of nuclear
giants and ethical infants. We know more about war that we know about peace, more about killing that
we know about living. In other words, our world understands warfare more than harmony. Having
ethical responsibility can contribute a major part in increasing peace around us. In the short story, And
of Clay Are We Created the author, Isabelle Allende described the way Rolf Carle s act of ethical
responsibility effected a little girl s death in a way that she could die in peace instead of frustration and
fear, knowing that an effort was made to live again, but it was in her fate to move on. Ethical
responsibility, according to www.smallbusiness.chron.com , can be defined as the duty to follow a
morally correct path. In your personal life, you might feel the greatest sense of ethical responsibility to
your family and close friends. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that although it may have been none of Rolf Carle s business to help the little girl named Azucena, it
was his ethical responsibility, therefore he would attempt to save her life. This is important to note
because if Rolf Carle ignored Azucena, she would have died faster, and in complete distress thinking
there was a slight chance she could have been saved. To sum up, Carle s assistance affected someone s
life positively without Carle harming himself. It is almost never disadvantageous to help

addition to discussing and making decisions on the size of the ASRS, we were given the opportunity
to view areas of the installation, maintenance, and the start up cost of the ASRS. Although, the start up
costs may seem inflated when compared to the current system in use, but the benefit of such a system
as the new ASRS brings forth a better return in this investment for CanGo and will give them a
competitive advantage in the market of online gaming. In our comparison of data from the three
vendors that manufacturer quality products, the consultants have reached a consensus and we will be

Palm Oil Case Study
When talking about the external stakeholders of the company, it is important to highlight a case where
P G s unethical practices seem to be more prevalent and well known. That is the palm oil case of
Sumatra, Indonesia. Palm oil is a substance found in beauty and household care products of P G s. P G
bought the majority of their palm oil from a company called BW Plantation which operates in
Kalimatan, Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia. However, BW Plantation is regarded among
the top companies in the world notorious for their unethical exercises of deforestation in the business
world. Between 2010 and 2014, BW Plantation converted over 7,000 hectares of land to palm oil
plantation and destroyed over 6,000 hectares of forests. Their unethical practice of deforestation in the

accounting for about a quarter of all forest loss. The report also stated that as few as 400 Sumatran

Advancements Of Invasive Surgery ( Mis ) Essay
Introduction With the rise of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) methods being used in medical
operating rooms, Medical Equipment Manufacturing (MEM) sees an opportunity to be the frontrunner
in developing the manufacturing processes and licensing the technology for this emerging market.
MEM is a manufacturer of an assortment of modern medical devices. The company sees potential in
developing manufacturing processes for the technology that can place an artificial socket with
precision during hip implants. However, the expenses involved are cause for concern. The success of
the product is also not guaranteed; moreover, MEM will have to consider the potential for competitors
who may produce analogous products. Initially, it was thought that the fixed cost of entering into this
market is $55 million, whereas the variable cost of present value revenue is $200 million. There is a
10% chance that MEM s development of this technology will be not marketable, resulting in the loss
of the fixed cost investment. Problem Statement Susan, Vice President of Product Innovation at MEM,
needs to make a choice of whether to launch the product into the market by developing the new
technology. She also needs an approximation of the total market shared by MEM for this product, and
the likely profits for MEM from following this new technology. According to the chief production
engineer, the expected cost of launching the product ($55 million) does not depict the uncertainty in

Allusions In Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a very popular show to teens and adults alike. The show s screenwriter,
Joss Whedon, studied literature in college, and therefore, the show has layered episodes with literary
elements like symbolism, metaphors, and allusions. The show is easily very relatable to teenagers .
Buffy expresses teenage drama in a supernatural way that is interesting to watch. Buffy is also known
for its dialogue ,but this popular opinion is the reason why Whedon wrote the episode Hush . He was
tired of hearing that a critical part of the series was the dialogue so he wrote an episode that had
silence fourteen minutes into the episode.. The original airing of Hush received 6.6 million views and
the episode was nominated for an Emmy. In the episode Hush , there are multiple instances where the
characters show that words are not as important as actions. Buffy is the main character of the series
and in this season she has a love interest named Riley. While it is clear they both have feelings for
each other, they are terrible at communicating. For one, Buffy and Riley both lie about their true
identities to each other. Buffy is the slayer, which means she protects mankind from monsters like
vampires and werewolves. After a class discussion, the couple begin to talk. During the conversation,
Buffy accidentally tells Riley she will be patrolling later that day, which she quickly covers up. While
Buffy is the Slayer, Riley works for the government, protecting people as

Working As A Tax Intern At The Firm s Core Tax Services...
During the course of my internship at BDO, I will be working as a tax intern in the firm s core tax
services practice. While BDO prepares returns for a wide variety of clients in numerous industries, the
Rosemont office, where I am interning, has a vast restaurant practice and an abundance of individual
clients. This is due to the merging of several small local firms who were eventually acquired by BDO.
While the Chicago office prepares many of the larger returns, Rosemont s numerous industry
specializations, namely restaurants and rental properties, makes for a unique internship opportunity.
Thus far, the majority of my work involves preparing partnership returns for rental and lodging
partnerships. Therefore, I have learned my way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To find this information, it is often necessary to access the partnerships general ledger and evaluate the
contributions that were made during the year. The general ledger is also helpful in discerning the
nature of certain vague account titles such as building improvements. When determining how these
assets should be depreciated for tax purposes, the general ledger provides adequate detail to determine
the appropriate MACRS recovery period.
After the client provided trial balance has been reformatted and its accounts have been made more
specific, I often have to perform an accrual to cash conversion. This is because the clients books are
kept on an accrual basis but their returns are prepared under the cash basis method of accounting.
Therefore, because the cash method only reflects transactions for which cash was paid or received in
the current period, accounts such as accrued expenses, accounts payable, and prepaid rent cannot be
included on the return. Therefore is necessary to make adjustments to the trial balance before it is
imported into the tax software. For example, to remove accounts receivable from the trial balance
before I import it, I would credit accounts receivable and debit revenue. Once all accrual accounts
have been reversed out, I use the newly created tax trial balance to complete the actual return.
Once the return is completed and deemed correct, I then update the basis schedules for each member
of the partnership to account for their outside

Chain Store Essay
Second, and most importantly to me, is the quality and high standards that chain stores possess. In my
personal experience, chain stores have a decent amount of staff available to assist you with knowledge
of product and great customer service. In the few local shops I ve stepped into, I have rarely been
greeted or assisted unless I managed to chase down a dour looking employee to begrudgingly answer
my questions. In Postrel s essay, she hits the nail on the head by asserting the idea that whether a store
is local or a chain, they are still quite similar in products they sell; A hardware store was a hardware
store, a pharmacy a pharmacy. (p. 347) The only true difference to me is the quality of the customer
service and the values the store possesses. In Augusta there are few local stores I enjoy shopping in,

Historical Development of Private Security in the United States

Without a doubt the profession of private security has evolved over time. Today if you were to ask

because many of the man returning from the war had prior military police training and acquired work

Essay about Criticisms of Battered Woman Syndrome
The Battered Woman Syndrome (BWM) is a syndrome whereas women react in a certain manner
because of repetitively physical or psychological abused imposed on them by their mates. The
Battered Woman Syndrome (BMW) is not limited in one area or location it is a problem that is
occurring all over in the world (2009, pg. 148). Like every other issue in the world criticism come into
play by psychologists and others when someone claims that they are victims of the Battered Woman
Syndrome or the Battered Woman Defense when they are taken to trial for killing their batterers
(BMW) (2009, pgs. 162 163). One criticism in particularly relates to whether or not if there some

The defense lawyer feels that the reaction of the battered woman after the death of her batterer is very
important, so they call the officer to the stand to ask him questions about this particular time (2009,
pg. 163). Two important and well thought of forms of criticisms can come along with the battered
woman syndrome, one form is that women are categorized by others as being sensitive, powerless and
submissive when she is living with a batterer. Another form is that sometimes there are deficiencies
with the appropriate hypothetical and background information which make it difficult to use in court
(2009, pg. 178). There have been times whereas lawyers and judges have misconstrued the use of the
battered woman syndrome and the fact that women claim that they were only defending themselves.
These lawyers and judges thinks that the battered woman defense is used by experts only to clarify
why the action of women as a battered woman. When battered women claim self defense after killing
their batterers some lawyers takes on the role of partiality which produces inadequately defense for
women. Denial by society is another problem that women face as a battered woman or using the
battered woman defense. Sometimes the reaction of a lawyer and judge shows up in disbelief and
awkwardness when they find out the defendant is alleging the battered woman syndrome to help with
her defense. (Dowd 1991, pgs. 11 12).

Rom Chocolate Brand
During the communism years, mostly during Nicolae CeauÅŸescu s reign , when basic products (food)
were rationed and the other products were exported for economical growth, Kandia SA created the
ROM chocolate bar.
More exactly, ROM is a chocolate bar filled with rum cream, a unique product created for the local,
Romanian market, first created in 1964.
The brand, from the begining, was succesful, because of the lack of choices and, of course, the
restrictions which were applied by the communist government.
At that time, ROM was a delight for everyone, and all the Romanians, from children to old people,
knew the brand and identified with it, because they had to.
Therefore, the product now reminds Romanians of their childhood, actually linking ... Show more

Considering that, they are making the purchase on a low involvement level, since the product doesn t
have any kind of meaning for them, being just a low priced chocolate bar with rum cream filling,
which has the Romanian flag on it.
Nowadays, due to the new ROM campaign, the level of involvement is changing , increasing amongst
the young market segment. That s happening because customers are actively participating in this
campaign, which promotes the positive aspects of Romanians around the world.
Therefore, the involvement is being modified by changing the reason for which some people buy the
chocolate bar, actually by making them relate to ROM.
Overall, the new ROM campaign now focuses on „inviting consumers to buy the product and stand up
for what they are and believe in, campaign which seems to be successful, since, according to
www.romaniisuntdestepti.ro, 637.937 Romanians were involved in it so far.
Looking further at ROM, the strength of the brand equity can be acknowledged for a certain segment.
So, the ROM brand represents Romanian quality, history and a gate towards social groups
(nationalists). That is the brand equity created from the begining, which creates awareness. It does not
create awareness for everyone, though, and that is why new strategies are being used, in order to
associate the brand with the

My Long-Term Aerobic Goal
Over the term of the semester, I was able to fully achieve my fitness goals (and then some), due to a
well structured workout plan, persistence and continued exercise throughout the semester, and
reasonable goals. Due to this I was able to significantly improve my cardio and core strength. My long
term aerobic goal was to be able to run the 1.5 mile benchmark run in 9 minutes and 30 seconds, a 3
minute improvement over my initial 11:48 that I tested at initially. I thought this was a reasonable goal
over the course of 1 semester given a consistent amount of practice. I met this goal about ¾ into the
semester and was able to consistently run the 1.5 miles every workout session in about 9:10. My
aerobic workout schedule consisted of going outside and running the 1.5 mile course every session,
pushing myself to my limits every time and thus incrementally improving my time. I found tht the
most difficult aspect was to master my own self effort, as my own internal effort seemed to make the
difference between a terrible time and a fantastic, fast, run. Once I was able to control this, however,
my times became consistent, and I met my goals every day. My times slowly decreased until I was ...

more prominent change than the one I noticed with my aerobic workouts, as I would collapse entirely
from exhaustion after 20 repetitions early in the semester, whereas later I could do curl ups
exceedingly well. I in fact reached 94 curl ups on my final fitness

Comparing Slaughterhouse Five And Full Metal Jacket
Between Slaughterhouse Five, a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut, and Full Metal Jacket, a film
directed by Stanley Kubrick, we can see many significant similarities in ideas and themes. Both of
them have major ideas regarding brainwashing of war as well as acceptance which, in a sense, go hand
in hand. However, since Full Metal Jacket follows Joker, the main character, he displays more ideas of
compassion and humanity while Slaughterhouse Five follows Billy Pilgrim, the main character, he
shows more of themes that reveal that time is cyclical and how everything ends up back at the
beginning.
Brainwashing is a significant part of every war and every soldier in every war; it is also a major theme
in Slaughterhouse Five and Full Metal Jacket. In a scene where Joker is in a helicopter with a door
gunner, the door gunner is shooting at Vietnamese farmers and civilians from a helicopter and says
that Joker should write a story about him because he has got 157 dead gooks killed to which Joker
responds by asking if he s killed any women or children and he says, sometimes. Then, Joker asks,
how can you shoot women or children? and the gunner responds by saying, Easy! Ya just don t lead
em so much! Ain t war hell? (Full Metal Jacket). As we can see, yes, war is definitely hell. The gunner
has been so brainwashed by the drilling of war training that he feels nothing when shooting at
innocent people from a helicopter, not even women and children. For a normal person, it would be

on the psychodynamic theory will be reviewed. The conflict analysis previously described can be
better understood applying the psychodynamic theory. After thinking about the conflict, I have come
to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the hardship that she was currently
going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I realized that she was taking her
frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of days, she has continually been building
up her anger and she should have explained her frustration with her friend that she was having issues
with. After the fact, Raven realized that she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because
she felt bad that I had to deal with her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind
dictate our interaction. The battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not
being able to keep friends. This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of
relationship, we have, I believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on.
According to Lesser (1978), despite the very basic fact that siblings spend at least as much time
together as parents do with their children (p. 40). I am Raven s favorite brother so she felt no matter

The Impact Of Media On Gender Socialization Essay
The splitting of products into two genders stemmed from fiscally conscious businesses; those who had
two products to sell to different people made more money than those who sold only gender neutral
clothing, razors, and drinks. In modern times, almost everything in the media and in advertisements is
biased based on gender. Ads for fragrance are no longer equitable; they are for cologne and perfume
separately. As the businesses made money, a latent consequence arose. Those who grew in the days of
binary gender products and segregated items became socialized to fit what was advertised. Boys
targeted by monster truck commercials became conditioned to believe that they could only play with
monster trucks and should compete with their friend s monster trucks. Girls became conditioned to
believe that dollhouses and horses were the only toy for them. These influences from the media have
affected gender socialization, relationships, and expectations throughout the life course of almost
every American. Out of four advertisements chosen, two are distinctly for women and two are
distinctly for men. It is easy to identify which is which, as everyone has experienced these social
expectations that the ads are founded on. For example, the male ad, titled Nivea for Men, is most
easily identified as such due to the man used as the model. However, this is not the average male in
American society this is the idealized version that men have become accustomed to viewing, and is

1920 American Gangsters
Gangs have existed in the United States for over 200 years. It all started when the first immigrants
came to the U.S.A. Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The
first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation
and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang
specialized in crimes was called The Five Points . They consisted of Irish immigrants and was
established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames.
Another early gang were the Forty Thieves . Their gang leader was Edward Coleman and they formed

While they might sport the tattoos, the jackets, colors, and signs, often these members are only
tangentially affiliated. According to much of the available literature, tattoos also serve as a badge of
protection against coercion from other gangs (Jackson and McBride 1985). In the current study,
tattoos signify a number of different and personal matters, only one of which gang membership and a
warning to others. At any rate, it is very clear that some youths engage in more gang activity than
others; some might be called the wannabes who move out of the influence of the gang on the basis of
whether or not a program of interest intercepts drawing them completely away from the gang. Within
the wannabes there are many little brothers and sisters, sometimes referred to as pee wees. However,
on separate and certain occasions they are sent home by their older siblings when something was
about to happen for which only older members were being mobilized. Moreover, I am going to go into
explicit detail on two Hispanic gangs The Mexican Mafia, the Nuestra Familia, and the Latin Kings.

Durkheim Is Dead! Macro vs. Micro Beliefs Essay
I have grouped the sociologists in Durkheim is Dead into three groups: macro to micro, micro and
macro, and micro to macro. I did not place any one of the individuals into just the macro or just the
micro categories. Each one fell into a group that I considered to be in between. In the macro to micro
category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society and then went on to
explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve social progress. Durkheim s
focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social problems (Berger 123). For Du
Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the power of freedom and democracy to

Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more
politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed that the
ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on societal
groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working class was being
exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who should be in charge
by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship between crime poverty.
She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One must remedy the political order
to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at fault, not the individual (Berger 130).
The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this
division. The theories that defined this category oscillated between the effects of society on the
individual and visa versa, the effect the individual on society. Simmel blatantly says, My view is
somewhere in the middle (Berger 94). Simmel s studies were often those of ordinary things people do
in the daily routine of life. He was interested in sociation and how individuals reacted to and

Dreaming Is Something We ve All Experienced While Sleeping
Dreaming is something we ve all experienced while sleeping. Our dreams are produced by an altered
state of consciousness, in which images and fantasies become mixed with reality. We all experience
dreams that range from the pleasant and the not so pleasant or nightmares. Dreaming is still largely a
mystery to science, as experiments are conducted to figure out why we dream and how dreams
function. We do know one thing for sure, that everyone dreams unless in the rare case they are
prevented by meditation or a brain injury. Dreams occur in two states; REM sleep and non REM sleep
which are very different and give the dreamer different sensations. In REM sleep our dreams contain
intense emotions, visual and auditory hallucinations. While in NON REM sleep our dreams tend to be
dull and realistic, compared to REM sleep dreams that are illogical and incoherent. The contents of the
dream can be linked to certain parts of the brain that is activated during our sleep, so in REM sleep,
parts of the brain that control motivation, emotion, and reward are activated while areas in the pre
frontal cortex are deactivated; since the prefrontal cortex is necessary for self awareness this is
believed to be the cause for why REM dreams are irrational.
Rem stands for rapid eye movement, during REM sleep neutrons in the brain, specifically in the
occipital cortex and brain stem regions, are more active during REM sleep than during waking hours

Argumentative Essay On Children On God
Dark and gloomy clouds cover the gray sky as rain endlessly floods the planet Venus. No bright colors
are to be found, and great jungles surround the entire planet and never stop growing. In a small school
located on the drizzling planet , nine year old Margot stands apart from her fellow classmates, all of
them waiting for the sun to come out again. 7 years ago was the sun s last appearance, and the children
on Venus eagerly wait for the sun to show itself one more time. However, they don t entirely
remember what the sun is like, except for shy little Margot for whom the other children all hate and
ignore. When Margot describes to them what the sun is like, they don t believe her and think she is
just making it all up. This is because Margot s different, for she lived on Earth 5 years ago and still
actually remembers the sun and its beautiful presence and warmth. Unfortunately, the other children
on Venus hate her for that, for they never got to experience what Margot has experienced. Unlike
Margot, they have lived on Venus their whole lives. Due to Margot s prior experiences on Earth, the
children on Venus act negatively and jealous towards her. This major theme can be shown through
denial, depression, and harassment.
One way the children on Venus act jealous towards Margot is that deny her beliefs about the sun and
think that she is making it all up. Ray Bradbury shows this when he writes, It s like a penny she said

The Importance Of Refugees In Australia
Asylum seekers or refugees have fled their countries due to volatile circumstances such as war, or fear
of prosecution. Upon arrival in Australia they are moved to detention centres. Detention centres hold
people who have come without a visa, any non national and all unauthorised boat arrivals (Australian
Human Rights Commission, 2014). These centres hold refugees for indefinite periods and in poor
conditions. They are used as a spectacle to represent illegality and a threat to Australian society
(Marfleet, 2007, p672).
The spectacle of detention centres does not only lie within public perception but also within the
architecture of the facility (Grinceri, 2016, p170 171). The barbed wired fence of detention centres is
an example. It allows the spectators (citizens) to witness the enclosure of refugees while
simultaneously binding refugees within its constraints, punishingly (Pugilese, 2008, p206 207). The
visibility provided by the wired fence enables photography and videoing, thus acting as a spectacle.
This spectacle is related to the ideals of torture. They are tortured and punished based on exclusions
and exception. The refugees held in detention centres form the exception. They are the Other which no
one wishes to become and are a danger to society. Those tortured are viewed as deserving because
they are seen as a threat. The power to make decisions about who can and cannot enter Australia lies
within the (Government) Sovereignty (Georgatos, 2017). The sovereign

Death Versus Death By Emily Dickinson

Death versus Death but the Points go to Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was born in a time when not many women involved themselves in poetry or any
form of intellectual capability. Despite this, she was such a wonderful poet that her poetry rivaled
Whitman s. Of course, she was never able to rival him because she chose not to publish her poetry in
her lifetime. Once the world saw her poetry, however, it was shocked by the literary genius who had
lived in seclusion for a good majority of her life. Her style is very distinguishable through it is
excessive but purposeful punctuation and 8 6 8 6 rhyme that matches church songs and patriotic songs
like Amazing Grace and Glory to God on High. The church influenced more than her style, however,
as much of her subject matter pertains to her unorthodox beliefs. Other subjects include hope and
sometimes humor, but her ideas on death are both very interesting and complicated. Dickinson does
not make light of death, but she uses her poems as her diary to record her thoughts on death. She
moves rapidly from thinking death is passive to thinking it is an amazing honor, but she also thinks of
it in a terrified sense. Emily Dickinson s views on death are uncertain, she varies between finding
death casual, positive and romantic, and negative in a series of several poems
Many people may fear death, but Emily Dickinson sometimes expressed in her

Essay on Adultery Explored in The Scarlet Letter
That Nathaniel Hawthorne to chose such a controversial topic as adultery for The Scarlet Letter, his
nineteenth century novel of seventeenth century sexual repression and hypocrisy (Zabarenko PG),
demonstrates a delicate yet changing climate with regard to infidelity.
Historically, carrying on an adulterous affair back in such an era of Puritanism and traditional values
was not taken lightly; in fact, by today s standards, such horrific treatment for what is now considered
an everyday occurrence was more harsh than murders suffer by current standards.
Those who acted out of the vows of matrimony centuries ago, as Hester Prynne did in The Scarlet

In truth, they had little patience for much display of immorality at all, which ultimately became
misinterpreted as a complete and total abhorrence to sexuality of any kind. This was not true, however,
yet their strict moral code did not bode well with outsiders, making them appear ultra conservative.
What is clear within the context of historical consideration is the emphasis placed upon judgement. To
determine what is right for one yet not for another; to cast one s opinion over the entire populace as a
painter might broadly stroke a blank canvass; to conclude that a person is wrong by the very act he
commits behind closed doors, is to be harshly and unfairly judgmental.
Small town mentality is wracked with judgement. There is no escaping its suffocating presence.
Historically, communities were one entity where the private business of everyone was worn much like
the Scarlet Letter itself: out in the open for everyone to know.
There was no sense of privacy within a world of snoops and busy bodies. Had there been even the
slightest reprieve from such intrusions upon one s intimacy, it very well may be that Prynne s
shameful act of adultery would have been judged by the one entity permitted to draw such a
conclusion: God.
One of the most saddening aspects of The Scarlet Letter is its historically paralyzing approach when
dealing with Prynne s extramarital affair. It was clear that she and Dimmesdale were in

Michael Jackson is known as the King of Pop and during his time he created multiple songs that hold
deep meanings and positively promoted what individuals morality should be composed of. One of
Jackson s world renowned pieces was a song called The Man In The Mirror , which represents change

assume that they would be in the video, but in Jackson s video this is not the case. In The Man In The

It is still the dream for most today to be able to live The American Dream , but at the time this video
was produced it shows that many people were not able to live that dream because of the many things
they faced. Many individuals encountered obstacles such as poverty or even segregation and that is
displayed in this video by each clip correlating with the line of the song and the message it is trying to
put forth. In the video Jacksons says Who am I to be blind? Pretending not to see their needs. and
while this is said clips of protest, motivational speakers and countries in need of help are displayed.
By saying this line and showing these clips at the same time Jackson is trying to imply that everyone
acts as if they do not see what needs to be fix in the world. By everyone pretending as if ignoring the
wrong is the right thing to do they are blinded that this is not the correct approach nor is it the right
thing to do. Within the different clips Jackson has in his video he shows that certain people and groups
may believe that they are the only individuals entitled to possessing The American Dream when that is
not true. The American Dream is not just for certain people it is for everyone and most of his lines can
be connected to that. Jackson shows people who need help and people who are helping, but
contradicts this with people who want change and equality and show the people who want to keep
everything unequal. With Jackson doing this he shows the people who have looked in the mirror
versus the ones who didn t. Currently people are still encountering all of these things from unequal
treatment to being in need of help and more people have put forth efforts and helping them conquer
life and work towards them living their dream. Thus, The American Dream correlates with The Man

Summary Of The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
Author and journalist, Jeannette Walls writes about her life story and upbringing in her memoir The
Glass Castle. The book definitely lived up to the high expectations set by others and drew me in
further as I kept reading. I wanted to read the book because I heard that is was exceptional from
several people including friends and family. As I kept reading I began to learn more about Walls story,
and I became intrigued to know what was to come. I believe that the author chose to share her story
because it shows why she is who she is today. She uses her voice well in order to relate to others in a
way that shows that when times become difficult not to lose hope because there can be a pleasant
ending. Walls writing style is very descriptive

The Renaissance Er The Era Of The Individual
The Renaissance period started in the 14th century and later ended in the 16th century. Right after the
Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic era
contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had a
naturalistic representation and so did Renaissance art. However, it was more obvious in the
Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts. Before
many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those two subjects
were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts took place during the
fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance is French and means rebirth
, which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences. Ultimately, the Renaissance era
was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human beings and was a change in the art
world. The last time human beings were being represented in art was during classical antiquity. For
instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life size sculpture. He named it David and
gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures legs and hips are turned in the opposite
direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first artist to create a naked life size sculpture
during this time period. The architecture artwork created during this time was very accurate in

American Culture Influence
How has the United Kingdom Influenced American Culture
Luis Padilla
Los Angeles Film School
Professor Soto They say that the United States of America is The Great Melting Pot, a place where no
matter what their culture or country of origin they are accepted. Contrary to common belief, America
in actuality is not a melting pot in fact, America is more like a huge salad bowl. This implies that even
after coming into this country you hold on to your culture. You don t take on the characteristics of the
new culture or society; it is a mixture of a lot of different thing but you can still tell the apart in the
salad. It is composed by many different people from almost every place around the world. For
example, many ingredients create one dish as many Americans create the United States. British being
one of this country many influences, England has had a huge impact on the states. Without Britain s

However, music was not one of those things. Now music is one of the biggest influences the states
have. We have seen many great bands that started in the UK. The most popular to this date are The
Beatles. The Beatles had a profound effect on American music and culture. For example, they made
long hair acceptable and desirable during their time, in the states every teenage boy wanted Beatle hair
even down to the collarless jackets and boots. Each new Beatles album was an event, the group
inspired countless other musicians and bands to push their own musical boundaries. A great example
of how they influenced music is with the song Yesterday . The song itself is one of the most recorded
song in history with more than 2,200 cover version to date. Much like earlier years, there is a new
wave of British stars. Artists like One Direction, The Wanted, Little Mix, Ed Sheeran and many others

Technology Based Learning Essay
Technology based learning (TBL) constitutes learning via electronic technology, including the
Internet, intranets, satellite broadcasts, audio and video conferencing, bulletin boards, chat rooms,
webcasts, and CD ROM. TBL also encompasses related terms, such as online learning and web based
learning that only include learning that occurs via the Internet, and computer based learning that is
restricted to learning through the use of computers. E learning is synonymous with TBL and has
largely replaced it in scholarship and industry as the term of choice.
TBL holds the promise of substantially transforming the way learning takes place because of its
numerous advantages. Among these, TBL fosters greater accessibility to learning by offering anytime
and anywhere delivery. It is readily scalable to both large and small groups since it can accommodate
larger numbers of learners at little extra cost and smaller groups of learners that otherwise would not
be able to participate in traditional classroom training for lack of enrollments. Further, the content of
TBL courses, especially those that are delivered online, can be centrally developed and updated
whenever the need arises; therefore, the cost of replacing outdated course materials and retraining
teachers and instructors drops significantly. From the learners point of view, TBL can be self paced
and matched to the learner s needs, and, building on pedagogy that emphasizes the merits of discovery
learning, it offers

  • 3. Benefits And Benefits Of Writing Writing and its Benefits The first phase in writing; invented spelling, is illustrated by Kelli, a first grader. Young children use invented spelling as a vehicle to express their thoughts. When exposed to various types of print, or writing; cereal boxes, signs, television, billboards, and any books that are read to them, the child will mimic the sounds they hear of the words they wish to write. The writings may appear as scribbles or unconventional writing to the viewer, but to the child it is meaningful, logical writing. The concern for the parent and their child s invented style of spelling is that the child will later have difficulty transitioning to a more standard, conventional style of spelling. The opposite is true, invented helps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time passed, she progressed at reading and acknowledged ways of standard spellings. With teacher encouragement, Kelli worked with her skill of invented spelling that lead her to spelling more words correctly. Beth, a good speller who used invented spelling in the beginning of the school year, and at the end of the school year progress had been seen in her standard writing skills; the g was used instead of a j in gently and a y was used instead of an e in merrily . To help gauge this, teachers may implement meaningful activities such as: songs or nursery rhymes. Less and less (as a child is encouraged and given the freedom to use invented spelling, as they learn to pick up the sounds heard in the words), they will seek help spelling words from the teacher, increasing their confidence level. At some point the teacher may have the child share their writings with them or to another child, but never putting any correction marks on their paper; instead the teacher will have the child say the word or words in question and instruct the rest of the class to listen to a particular point (beginning, middle, or end). • 4. The Rapid Growth Of Population Essay Introduction: The reason I chose this topic is because in my country Ethiopia the rapid growth of population alarmed me, just around the 1965 our population was very low however in the past few years it has tripled form 20 million to over 100 million. This was when my interest in my countries population developed. Population is one of the conversational topics when talking about a countries profile, in view of the fact that it plays a huge role, in a countries work force, consumption and economy. I will be collecting data and modelling them to predict the population for the next 5 to 10 years. I will also be doing this for Kenya to see the relationship between the two countries to prove that this rapid growth of population is happening not only in our country but in our neighboring countries too. The data collected is imprecise because it is affected by many variables. The mortality rate of the people in Ethiopia can affect my data highly. During this time Ethiopia had a high rate of migration, this could also be included as one of the variables that have affected my data. I will be using this set of data to draw a graph so that I can generate a model to represent this data so that I can use it to predict the population after five years. Year Population (in millions) 1 2015 99.3 2 2010 87.5 3 2005 76.6 4 2000 66.4 5 1995 57.2 6 1990 48.0 7 1985

  • 6. The Impact Of Modern Campaign Finance Laws On America Campaign Finance Introduction: In 2011, two sociologists named Erik Olin Wright and Joel Rogers identified five core American values: freedom, prosperity, efficiency, fairness, and democracy (Wright and Rogers). America s numerous ideals inevitably cause these values to come into conflict each other. Such conflict characterizes the debate over the implications of modern campaign finance laws in America. The Supreme Court s ruling in Citizen s United v. FEC in 2010 undid former restrictions placed on how money can be spent on federal political campaigns. Prior restrictions like the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 and its amendments in 1974, placed limitations on political donations by Political Action Committees (PACs), political parties, and even individuals. Originally these restrictions were put in place to deter corruption that could undermine the democracy inherent in US values and elections. The Supreme Court s ruling in 2010 revolutionized the scene by declaring that independent expenditures are protected by the first amendment to the US Constitution. They further asserted that for all intents and purposes corporations are legally viewed synonymous with people in terms of political spending. The Supreme Court s ruling emphasized equality and freedom, but at what cost? Critics, like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, suggest at the cost of democracy, and ultimately corporate interests diminishing freedom in the long run. As a result of this case, more money is now ... Two Saints of the Catholic Church, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas, developed their own respective proofs for the existence of God. These proofs have gained fame over the subsequent centuries and still face debate and comparison today. Although both St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas offer proofs for the existence of God, the proofs differ drastically due to the distinct argumentative methods utilized by each author, as well as the differing overall strengths and weaknesses each proof yields. To begin comparing the proofs, one must first state them. St. Anselm s proof is most clearly described by defining God as that than which no greater can be conceived (Melchert, 260). With this definition in mind, one can contemplate St. Augustine s Great Chain of Being and realize that existence gives something more being, or more greatness, than non existence (Melchert, 261). It follows, then, that we grasp an idea of God, which would be greater if it actually existed, therefore it (our idea of God) exists. Anselm s definition of God and Augustine s theory of the Great Chain of Being are the only requirements for Anselm s proof of the existence of God to work. St. Thomas Aquinas actually posits five separate proofs, but due to length constraints, this paper will only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We know more about war that we know about peace, more about killing that we know about living. In other words, our world understands warfare more than harmony. Having ethical responsibility can contribute a major part in increasing peace around us. In the short story, And of Clay Are We Created the author, Isabelle Allende described the way Rolf Carle s act of ethical responsibility effected a little girl s death in a way that she could die in peace instead of frustration and fear, knowing that an effort was made to live again, but it was in her fate to move on. The show is easily very relatable to teenagers . Buffy expresses teenage drama in a supernatural way that is interesting to watch. Buffy is also known for its dialogue ,but this popular opinion is the reason why Whedon wrote the episode Hush . He was tired of hearing that a critical part of the series was the dialogue so he wrote an episode that had silence fourteen minutes into the episode.. The general ledger is also helpful in discerning the nature of certain vague account titles such as building improvements. After the client provided trial balance has been reformatted and its accounts have been made more specific, I often have to perform an accrual to cash conversion. This is because the clients books are kept on an accrual basis but their returns are prepared under the cash basis method of accounting. Therefore, because the cash method only reflects transactions for which cash was paid or received in the current period, accounts such as accrued expenses, accounts payable, and prepaid rent cannot be included on the return. Therefore is necessary to make adjustments to the trial balance before it is imported into the tax software. For example, to remove accounts receivable from the trial balance before I import it, I would credit accounts receivable and debit revenue. • 29. The Impact Of Media On Gender Socialization Essay The splitting of products into two genders stemmed from fiscally conscious businesses; those who had two products to sell to different people made more money than those who sold only gender neutral clothing, razors, and drinks. In modern times, almost everything in the media and in advertisements is biased based on gender. Ads for fragrance are no longer equitable; they are for cologne and perfume separately. As the businesses made money, a latent consequence arose. Those who grew in the days of binary gender products and segregated items became socialized to fit what was advertised. Boys targeted by monster truck commercials became conditioned to believe that they could only play with monster trucks and should compete with their friend s monster trucks. Girls became conditioned to believe that dollhouses and horses were the only toy for them. These influences from the media have affected gender socialization, relationships, and expectations throughout the life course of almost every American. Out of four advertisements chosen, two are distinctly for women and two are distinctly for men. It is easy to identify which is which, as everyone has experienced these social expectations that the ads are founded on. For example, the male ad, titled Nivea for Men, is most easily identified as such due to the man used as the model. (2 points) He showed curiosity by staring at a child who was looking at the toy cars. He shoes interest in the situation by looking very intrigued whenever the cars crash. He goes back in forth from putting the toy cars in boxes and then crashing the toys together on the track. 2. When they are challenged some children will stay with an activity for a long time. Give an example of the length of this child s attention span. (2 points) The child, at the most, stayed doing one activity for five minutes and then switches. Although he changes what he does with the toy cars, he continues to play with the same toys. 3. Watch and describe how the child participates in problem solving. Did the child learn by trial and error or by another approach? Was the child supported by another child or an adult? (3 points) The child, a first, was not able to stack blocks without them falling over. He saw other children stack the boys in a neater way and managed to learn without and adult showing him. 4. • 35. Durkheim Is Dead! Macro vs. Micro Beliefs Essay I have grouped the sociologists in Durkheim is Dead into three groups: macro to micro, micro and macro, and micro to macro. I did not place any one of the individuals into just the macro or just the micro categories. Each one fell into a group that I considered to be in between. In the macro to micro category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society and then went on to explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve social progress. Durkheim s focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social problems (Berger 123). For Du Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the power of freedom and democracy to lead these peoples to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed that the ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on societal groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working class was being exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who should be in charge by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship between crime poverty. She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One must remedy the political order to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at fault, not the individual (Berger 130). The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this division. The theories that defined this category oscillated between the effects of society on the individual and visa versa, the effect the individual on society. • 36. Dreaming Is Something We ve All Experienced While Sleeping Dreaming is something we ve all experienced while sleeping. Our dreams are produced by an altered state of consciousness, in which images and fantasies become mixed with reality. We all experience dreams that range from the pleasant and the not so pleasant or nightmares. Dreaming is still largely a mystery to science, as experiments are conducted to figure out why we dream and how dreams function. We do know one thing for sure, that everyone dreams unless in the rare case they are prevented by meditation or a brain injury. Dreams occur in two states; REM sleep and non REM sleep which are very different and give the dreamer different sensations. In REM sleep our dreams contain intense emotions, visual and auditory hallucinations. While in NON REM sleep our dreams tend to be dull and realistic, compared to REM sleep dreams that are illogical and incoherent. The contents of the dream can be linked to certain parts of the brain that is activated during our sleep, so in REM sleep, parts of the brain that control motivation, emotion, and reward are activated while areas in the pre frontal cortex are deactivated; since the prefrontal cortex is necessary for self awareness this is believed to be the cause for why REM dreams are irrational. Rem stands for rapid eye movement, during REM sleep neutrons in the brain, specifically in the occipital cortex and brain stem regions, are more active during REM sleep than during waking hours or compared to non REM sleep. • 38. Argumentative Essay On Children On God Dark and gloomy clouds cover the gray sky as rain endlessly floods the planet Venus. No bright colors are to be found, and great jungles surround the entire planet and never stop growing. In a small school located on the drizzling planet , nine year old Margot stands apart from her fellow classmates, all of them waiting for the sun to come out again. 7 years ago was the sun s last appearance, and the children on Venus eagerly wait for the sun to show itself one more time. However, they don t entirely remember what the sun is like, except for shy little Margot for whom the other children all hate and ignore. When Margot describes to them what the sun is like, they don t believe her and think she is just making it all up. This is because Margot s different, for she lived on Earth 5 years ago and still actually remembers the sun and its beautiful presence and warmth. Unfortunately, the other children on Venus hate her for that, for they never got to experience what Margot has experienced. Unlike Margot, they have lived on Venus their whole lives. Due to Margot s prior experiences on Earth, the children on Venus act negatively and jealous towards her. This major theme can be shown through denial, depression, and harassment. One way the children on Venus act jealous towards Margot is that deny her beliefs about the sun and think that she is making it all up. Ray Bradbury shows this when he writes, It s like a penny she said once, eyes closed. No it s not! the children cried. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Importance Of Refugees In Australia Asylum seekers or refugees have fled their countries due to volatile circumstances such as war, or fear of prosecution. Upon arrival in Australia they are moved to detention centres. Detention centres hold people who have come without a visa, any non national and all unauthorised boat arrivals (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014). These centres hold refugees for indefinite periods and in poor conditions. They are used as a spectacle to represent illegality and a threat to Australian society (Marfleet, 2007, p672). The spectacle of detention centres does not only lie within public perception but also within the architecture of the facility (Grinceri, 2016, p170 171). The barbed wired fence of detention centres is an example. It allows the spectators (citizens) to witness the enclosure of refugees while simultaneously binding refugees within its constraints, punishingly (Pugilese, 2008, p206 207). The visibility provided by the wired fence enables photography and videoing, thus acting as a spectacle. This spectacle is related to the ideals of torture. They are tortured and punished based on exclusions and exception. The refugees held in detention centres form the exception. They are the Other which no one wishes to become and are a danger to society. Those tortured are viewed as deserving because they are seen as a threat. The power to make decisions about who can and cannot enter Australia lies within the (Government) Sovereignty (Georgatos, 2017). The sovereign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Death Versus Death By Emily Dickinson Maheen Chranya English HP E Ratliff April 21, 2015 Term Paper Rough Draft HP: _____________________ Death versus Death but the Points go to Dickinson Emily Dickinson was born in a time when not many women involved themselves in poetry or any form of intellectual capability. Despite this, she was such a wonderful poet that her poetry rivaled Whitman s. Of course, she was never able to rival him because she chose not to publish her poetry in her lifetime. Once the world saw her poetry, however, it was shocked by the literary genius who had lived in seclusion for a good majority of her life. Her style is very distinguishable through it is excessive but purposeful punctuation and 8 6 8 6 rhyme that matches church songs and patriotic songs like Amazing Grace and Glory to God on High. The church influenced more than her style, however, as much of her subject matter pertains to her unorthodox beliefs. Other subjects include hope and sometimes humor, but her ideas on death are both very interesting and complicated. Dickinson does not make light of death, but she uses her poems as her diary to record her thoughts on death. She moves rapidly from thinking death is passive to thinking it is an amazing honor, but she also thinks of it in a terrified sense. Emily Dickinson s views on death are uncertain, she varies between finding death casual, positive and romantic, and negative in a series of several poems Many people may fear death, but Emily Dickinson sometimes expressed in her ... Essay on Adultery Explored in The Scarlet Letter That Nathaniel Hawthorne to chose such a controversial topic as adultery for The Scarlet Letter, his nineteenth century novel of seventeenth century sexual repression and hypocrisy (Zabarenko PG), demonstrates a delicate yet changing climate with regard to infidelity. Historically, carrying on an adulterous affair back in such an era of Puritanism and traditional values was not taken lightly; in fact, by today s standards, such horrific treatment for what is now considered an everyday occurrence was more harsh than murders suffer by current standards. In truth, they had little patience for much display of immorality at all, which ultimately became misinterpreted as a complete and total abhorrence to sexuality of any kind. This was not true, however, yet their strict moral code did not bode well with outsiders, making them appear ultra conservative. What is clear within the context of historical consideration is the emphasis placed upon judgement. To determine what is right for one yet not for another; to cast one s opinion over the entire populace as a painter might broadly stroke a blank canvass; to conclude that a person is wrong by the very act he commits behind closed doors, is to be harshly and unfairly judgmental. Small town mentality is wracked with judgement. There is no escaping its suffocating presence. Historically, communities were one entity where the private business of everyone was worn much like the Scarlet Letter itself: out in the open for everyone to know. There was no sense of privacy within a world of snoops and busy bodies. Had there been even the slightest reprieve from such intrusions upon one s intimacy, it very well may be that Prynne s shameful act of adultery would have been judged by the one entity permitted to draw such a conclusion: God. One of the most saddening aspects of The Scarlet Letter is its historically paralyzing approach when dealing with Prynne s extramarital affair. It was clear that she and Dimmesdale were in ... One of Jackson s world renowned pieces was a song called The Man In The Mirror , which represents change and making a difference. When you hear about an artist having a new music video out one would assume that they would be in the video, but in Jackson s video this is not the case. It is still the dream for most today to be able to live The American Dream , but at the time this video was produced it shows that many people were not able to live that dream because of the many things they faced. Many individuals encountered obstacles such as poverty or even segregation and that is displayed in this video by each clip correlating with the line of the song and the message it is trying to put forth. In the video Jacksons says Who am I to be blind? Pretending not to see their needs. and while this is said clips of protest, motivational speakers and countries in need of help are displayed. By saying this line and showing these clips at the same time Jackson is trying to imply that everyone acts as if they do not see what needs to be fix in the world. By everyone pretending as if ignoring the wrong is the right thing to do they are blinded that this is not the correct approach nor is it the right thing to do. Within the different clips Jackson has in his video he shows that certain people and groups may believe that they are the only individuals entitled to possessing The American Dream when that is not true. The American Dream is not just for certain people it is for everyone and most of his lines can be connected to that. Jackson shows people who need help and people who are helping, but contradicts this with people who want change and equality and show the people who want to keep everything unequal. With Jackson doing this he shows the people who have looked in the mirror versus the ones who didn t. Currently people are still encountering all of these things from unequal treatment to being in need of help and more people have put forth efforts and helping them conquer life and work towards them living their dream. Right after the Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic era contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had a naturalistic representation and so did Renaissance art. However, it was more obvious in the Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts. Before many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those two subjects were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts took place during the fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance is French and means rebirth , which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences. Ultimately, the Renaissance era was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human beings and was a change in the art world. The last time human beings were being represented in art was during classical antiquity. For instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life size sculpture. He named it David and gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures legs and hips are turned in the opposite direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first artist to create a naked life size sculpture during this time period. The architecture artwork created during this time was very accurate in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology Based Learning Essay Technology based learning (TBL) constitutes learning via electronic technology, including the Internet, intranets, satellite broadcasts, audio and video conferencing, bulletin boards, chat rooms, webcasts, and CD ROM. TBL also encompasses related terms, such as online learning and web based learning that only include learning that occurs via the Internet, and computer based learning that is restricted to learning through the use of computers. E learning is synonymous with TBL and has largely replaced it in scholarship and industry as the term of choice. TBL holds the promise of substantially transforming the way learning takes place because of its numerous advantages. Among these, TBL fosters greater accessibility to learning by offering anytime and anywhere delivery. It is readily scalable to both large and small groups since it can accommodate larger numbers of learners at little extra cost and smaller groups of learners that otherwise would not be able to participate in traditional classroom training for lack of enrollments. Further, the content of TBL courses, especially those that are delivered online, can be centrally developed and updated whenever the need arises; therefore, the cost of replacing outdated course materials and retraining teachers and instructors drops significantly. From the learners point of view, TBL can be self paced and matched to the learner s needs, and, building on pedagogy that emphasizes the merits of discovery learning, it offers ...
