The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Analysis
Mary Anne slipped through the Jungle weaving in and out of the thick vegetation, her fellow Green
Berets appearing as a shadow behind her. She was dressed in a pink sweater which was a stark
contrast to her machine gun and her character. Her movements were just as graceful as before but no
longer for the simple purpose of appearing feminine. Her elegance was displayed in the way she
moved, deliberately and silently, her whole body poised to strike down the enemy at the soonest
opportunity. Mary Anne occasionally thought back to when she first arrived in Vietnam. She had
wanted to get married and live in house by a lake with a husband and three kids. She had her whole
life planned out in just the way that everyone told her it should be. Three ... Show more content on

Mary Anne talks about the war in a positive light saying that when she is fighting is the only time she
knows who she truly is. However, the author compares Mary Anne s relationship to war as being
similar to a drug addiction. She has lost perspective on who she really is and only those around her
can see her true self. In my story Mary Anne is described as having a longing for the fight which turns
into an overwhelming urge to risk what is left of her life . This parallels the Song of the Tra Bong in
its description of the drug like effect of war on Mary Anne. She consistently uses the phrase It s not
bad to describe her transformation. It is like she is trying to convince herself that who she has become
is okay and that there is no problem with what she is doing. This is not that different from the way a
drug addict might try to find a justification for their behavior or at least understate its

Example Of A Dysfunctional Family
Families are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. This
quote represents the fact that family splits apart but remains as one and plays a crucial role in one s
life. Moreover, a good supporting family can impact anyone in a positive way. Although, a
dysfunctional family can affect someone in a negative way. Identity, the fact of being who or what a
person or thing is. Family can define one s identity to a great extent. For example, parents can impact
their children in many ways and siblings as well. Community, family, and gender configures one s

For a long time, certain careers were only available to one gender or the other. Although that has
changed, there are still careers that we tend to think of as more male or female; while this is primarily
subconscious, it probably affects career choice a great deal. This quote conveys that gender affects
many peoples life decisions. For example, men get paid more even though women have the same job,
which isn t right. To elaborate, We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people from the continuing
bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and other discrimination. This quote depicts that we

How Does Glyphosate Affect Date Palm Trees
Introduction
Asked to research how Round up PowerMax affects date palm trees, these are my findings. I found
that Round up s active ingredient is glyphosate. This led me to search various databases with scientific
studies on glyphosate s effects on date palm trees. Currently there is one similar study on glyphosates
effects on palm trees. Although this study at a glance seems thorough, it does not specifically test the
chemical s effects on date palm trees. Consequently, there are currently no studies on how glyphosate
affects date palm species.
The purpose of this memo is to discourse glyphosate s effects on date palm trees (Phoenix dactylifera).
Each segment of this memo contains exhibits; each exhibit contains specific findings and/or research
on glyphosate s effects on the date palm species.

The Catholic Church Of Gothic And Scholastic Ideals
As the rigidity of the Roman Catholic Church s power, influence, and corruption reached a climax
during the Romanesque period, humanity s desire for a more pleasurable life began to increase. The
Middle Ages brought about a transition that began to replace spiritual emphasis in life and highlighted
intellectualism and religious skepticism. Though the church s power was not necessarily undermined,
it was certainly revolutionized and dampened. Examples of this humanistic transformation were
represented through the union of Gothic and Scholastic ideals. Rather than simply scare the population
into being religious and pious, the Gothic era welcomed the population beginning with France,
followed by the rest of Europe through the airy, dream like, colorful, and uplifting beauty of the
Gothic Cathedrals. This radical change would not have come about were it not for Aristotle s
nominalist philosophy during Antiquity, which pioneered the future revival of this somewhat liberal
thinking. Aristotelian thought had been carried through the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and is
regarded as the most remarkable movements of European intellectual history (Craig 11). The great
originality and realism that Aristotle engineered provoked articulation and provided momentum for
expanded thought and thinkers alike. Aristotle created a highly adaptable and able lifestyle that
demanded more of humanity itself, [These] needs were not just religious but also medical, and,
perhaps most important,

The Underlying Motivation For Researching The Thought...
Introduction
This paper provides an interdisciplinary perspective to describing the underlying motivation for
researching the thought provoking construct of piracy which is at the heart of the proposed research
question. The document is organized into a four sections: 1) research motivation; 2) research question
based on literature gap; 3) interdisciplinary insights on piracy; and 4) conclusion providing reflection
and insights of take always from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Research Motivation
In broad daylight during a hot day in 1982, barefooted and shirtless pirates paddling wooden canoes,
attack an unarmed U.S. commercial ship delivering humanitarian relief in the seaport of Freetown,
Sierra Leone. The shirtless pirates are armed as they swing their grappling hooks and ropes to climb
the twenty five foot starboard hull. The pirates struggled to steal boxes of cigarettes; a form of
currency in the poor coastal population. The U.S. ship operators often used cigarettes to bribe local
African officials for port services. As customary, the U.S. vessel has no weapons, except a flare gun,
which jams when fired at the roving pirates. The pirates are finally repealed by opposing shoeless and
bare chested local natives with poison arrows. A naïve 20 year old engine cadet on his maiden voyage
across the pond observes this chaos in bewilderment reminiscing from childhood that pirates were
supposed to be fictional Disney characters. Quite the contrary, pirates are real and

The 17th Amendment Of The United States Constitution
The 17th Amendment The American government was created based on the principle of federalism, the
system of government that establishes a written constitution that divides the powers of government to
a federal and state level. The U.S. Federal Government consists of three branches, the Executive,
Legislative, and Judicial. It also utilizes checks and balances so these branches have equal power. The
main goal of federalism is to balance the central government with the state government, and initially
the U.S. Constitution established that the Senate shall be composed of two Senators from each State,
chosen by the Legislature (US Const. Article I, Section 3). However, in 1912 the 17th Amendment
was ratified, which changed how Senators are elected. Instead of the people voting for state legislators
who elect Senators, the people elected the Senators, making the election process of Senators a direct
democracy. The Framers chose to create a republic instead of direct democracy in order to prevent
social and elite groups from taking power. The 17th Amendment goes against does not just oppose the
Constitution, but it also disputes the ideology of the American Government as a federal republic.
Although most supporters of the 17th Amendment believe that it serves as a better mechanism for a
representative government, it is unconstitutional because of its opposing qualities against the Framers
who created the United States government with the vision of federalism and a republic. The

Thinking Outside the Box of Christianity Essay
Humans have an attribute that animals do not have: free will. In our lives, we are frequently presented
with many opportunities to make our own choices, but what exactly fuels and supports our decision
making? Sometimes, we act impulsively for no reason, but for the most part, we are often influenced
by various outside factors, such as past experiences, religious beliefs, or peer pressure, to make our
choices. Emil Sinclair, the narrator of Herman Hesse s bildungsroman Demian, is an example of an
individual who incorporates different aspects and beliefs of religion, particularly Christianity, into his
life. Raised in a Christian household, Emil has always viewed religion as a big role; not only does
religion influence his actions, it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated (Hesse 3). On
occasion, he was certain that he was destined to be as orderly and superior as his mother and father
perfect examples of the light realm. However, in spite of struggling to find his inner self, his path and
hopes to achieve greatness go astray. Emil experiences his first sense of religious doubt after he tells a
lie, and as a result, he feels that he has entered the realm of evil and sin. Unquestionably I belonged to
the realm of light and righteousness; I was my parents child. But in whichever direction I turned I
perceived the other world, and I lived within that other world as well, though often a stranger to it, and
suffering from panic and a bad conscience (4 5). Keeping a secret from his guardians, Sinclair
perceives his father as less powerful and holy. In a religious sense, Emil s feelings for his father
represent his feelings for God, and thus Sinclair s image of Him as sacred is likewise diminished by
his personal experience in the dark realm. In addition, Sinclair compares himself to the Prodigal son,
but unlike the Prodigal son of Christian doctrine, Emil does not return to ask for forgiveness. As Emil
Sinclair grows older, he is presented with distinct perspectives which differ with his religion, but
instead of abandoning Christianity all together, he selects

Schuurvy Research Paper
Scurvy is a nutritional disease that stems from a lack of Vitamin C. I chose this as my topic because I
have always been interested in history and how historically on ships it was difficult to have fresh fruit
aboard because they would spoil on long trips and instead they would have meats and foods that could
be preserved with heavy amounts of salt. Scurvy was first documented as a disease by Hippocrates
and was discovered by ancient Egyptians in 1550 but people would often forget eating Vitamin C is an
effective cure for the disease. In the 13th century people often suffered from Scurvy. Eventually the
explorers wizened up to this and the Portuguese planted fruit trees and vegetables that they could
harvest on their way home from journeys

Tom Brady s Argument Against The Deflategate Scandal
It appears that after roughly 18 months of madness, which included false reports, outside
investigations, Bill Belichick versus Bill Nye The Science Guy and a lot headaches, the Deflategate
scandal has finally come to an end.
Last Wednesday, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York declined to reconsider its April
decision not to overturn four time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady s four game suspension, handed
down by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in May 2015. Consequently, the New England Patriots
quarterback recently ended his fight against the punishment, deciding to forego his final option of
appealing to the Supreme Court.

The third year quarterback will also have Danny Amendola, and newcomers Martellus Bennett and
Chris Hogan Garoppolo won t have a shortage of options to throw to.
On defense, the Patriots have one of the best linebacking corps in the league. Headlined by run stuffer
Dont a Hightower and swiss army knife Jamie Collins, New England s group of linebackers is elite.
Adding Terrance Knighton to former first round pick Malcom Brown makes a scary interior defensive
line. There s a ton of talent on the pass rushing front, as well as in the defensive backfield, so as a
whole, New England s defense should rank in the top 10 next season.
Draft picks and free agent signings by the other teams in the AFC East always get people excited. This
is the year the Pats fall off, they say. But 13 out of the last 15 seasons, the Patriots have been in the
postseason, with little reason to believe that circumstance should change this year. With four weeks off
to start the season, and should the Patriots reach the playoffs for the 14th time in 16 seasons, Brady
could be the healthiest he has been in a while heading into the postseason. That is a scary thought for

Symbols in Perelandra by C.S. Lewis
Analysis of Symbols and Themes in C.S. Lewis s
Perelandra
British author C.S. Lewis s Perelandra is one of the most religiously relevant fantasy novels ever
written. Set on the exotic planet of Perelandra (Venus), it contains within its pages the Creation legend
of Adam and Eve, set in our time but in a different world. Perelandra is a story of an unspoiled world,
the Garden of Eden denied to the residents of earth but still open to the two inhabitants of Perelandra.
C.S. Lewis uses this unspoiled planet to retell the biblical creation myth of Adam and Eve. In the
book, Maleldil, the supernatural ruler of the Solar System sends the English philologist Ransom to
Perelandra. Once there, he finds a world unspoiled by sin, inhabited ... Show more content on

It is within her that the battle for the preservation of this Perelandrian Eden will be fought. Ransom
soon learns that this woman is unspoiled by all the sins common to earth, and remains free, young, and
innocent. In their conversation, Ransom learns of the one law of the planet told to her by Malendil.
Malendil requests that neither the Green Lady nor the King sleep on the fixed land that the floating
islands surround. They may enter it, but to sleep on it is against the wishes of Malendil. This is the
symbolic forbidden fruit of Perelandria. Sleeping on the fixed land and disobeying Malendil on
Perelandria is to eating the apple and disobeying Christ on earth. It is over this that the battle will rage.
While exploring the fixed land, the green Lady and Ransom spot a small spacecraft of some sort crash
into the ocean nearby. From this, emerges Dr. Weston, who will represent the Devil while on
Perelandria. Weston is sent by the Devil to corrupt the planet, and is eventually completely controlled
by Satan and left a helpless shell of a man. Dr. Weston immediately makes contact with the Green
Lady, begins to try to tempt her into sin.

Essay about The Fokker Eindecker During World War One
In today s world, the use of airplanes in wars or in everyday life has become a part of how we live as
human beings. Removing the air forces of the world is like taking a step back in time when wars were
only fought on land or sea. WWI began only eleven short years after the Wright brothers achieved
powered flight in 19031 and yet aircrafts were being used for surveillance and eventually combat
purposes. It is understood that these aircrafts were primitive, but they laid down the foundation for
what we know today as fighter jets. The Fokker Eindecker revolutionized air combat by successfully
employing a synchronized forward firing machine gun mounted on the engine cowling 2. Because this
airplane became the first to successfully use a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was the importance to this plane? The French plane included a machine gun attached to its
propellers. Fokker went above and beyond the German s request by creating a more reliable aircraft
that wouldn t allow the propellers to be damaged by the gun.6 What made Fokker s E series
revolutionary was the synchronized machine gun attached to the propellers. The gun attached to the
French plane had metal plates to protect it from the bullets but Fokker realized that they were not one
hundred percent protected. By devising a synchronizing machine gun with the propeller, there would
be no way for the aircraft to be damaged and all the pilot had to do was point the aircraft in the
direction he wanted to attact.4 The warfare of World War one was the deadliest to date due to new
fighting tactics and advancements in technology. Machine guns and trench warfare became the new,

Gluten Free Diet And Gluten Food
The Gluten free diet, a shitshow
Gluten free, it has become the blazing slogan on the majority of food items, including food items that
never had gluten to begin with, such as water. This push towards ridding our diets of grains has
become extremely mainstream, but is this diet as healthy as it has been made out to be? While there
can be some benefits to the gluten free diet, there is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that
products containing gluten are a staple of a healthy diet. Even though a gluten free diet may be
medically necessary for some, the gluten free products available on the market are very expensive.
Ultimately, the only people who truly benefit from gluten free diets are those who have been
diagnosed with celiac disease or non celiac gluten sensitivity. The people who do choose to partake in
the gluten free diet who do not have a pre existing medical condition should consult their doctor
before altering their diet.
When I was attending primary school, maladies such as non celiac gluten sensitivity did not exist. Fast
forward to the year 2016, and I can name at least five people who are gluten free. The popularity of
the gluten free diet has grown, with, approximately 30% of the US population adhering to a gluten
free diet (Linda Johanson, 2015). Why is it that so much of the US population has adopted a gluten

Philosophy Vs Religion Research Paper
Reading a chapter from a book based on how philosophy differs from science and religion. In a way it
does not, they are really the same. They just use different terminology in how they discipline is
expressed. For example, the scientific method is how the scientist comes to a conclusion, just how
philosophers ask certain questions to prove their debates or theories. Religion, on the other hand, is
more closely related to philosophy because both deal with beliefs and faith base systems.
In the early days of philosophy, philosophers like galileo, Socrates, and Plato were they early scientist

Religion, on the other hand, looks at philosophy as it prodigy and also its own personal antagonist.
Religion is more about should searching, and not empirical investigations. if someone wants to know
more about god, there most meaningful insight will come through prayer, meditation, and self

yet to debate it. Science and philosophy can t deal with the methods of religious issues. Religion,
however, possess the answer to understanding the reality of philosophy and science.
Philosophy and religion do have something in common that neither has a method for searching out

The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Summary
The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment: compliance with the American Psychological Association s (APA)
ethical principles for research with the human participants.
By Roman Yakubov
In general, research that involves human participants raises a lot of ethical questions and concern.
Ethics refers to the norms or principles that generally guide any research as well as whether research
activities are conducted the right or the wrong way. Additionally, ethics are the moral principles that
govern the behavioral component when a certain activity is conducted, in this case the Tuskegee
Syphilis Experiment (citation?). In summary, the Tuskegee Study is a medical research that was

One part of this dilemma is the value of advancing the science of psychology, a value central to the
Association s mission as APA s core texts emphasize versus the considering for the harm and pain
caused to its participants in the research. (cite) In the Tuskegee case, the limited deception principle
was violated. Uneducated participants were coerced into the research without clear understanding
about the goal of the study as well as the purpose of the research and withholding of the treatment.
Participants received free screenings, physicals, lumbar punctures but did not receive the medicine to
treat syphilis. Consequently, deception by researchers had an impact on more innocent individuals
who were not part of the research. For example, girlfriends, wives and children who were directly
impacted by the spread of the syphilis by untreated patients. Researchers used deception to also
continue to evaluate the impacts of the untreated syphilis with more information and treatable options

When I say the word metal, what comes to mind? In the 1970s it was associated with
Satan worshiping cults, and Led Zeppelin. In the 1980s it was the over the hill style, wild partying,

core genre that does everything the same as the next band. To me, metal culture

doesn t bluntly give a crap what you or the next critic thinks. The bands my dad showed to me as a kid

You can post brief status updates, as you might do on Twitter. Facebook is a dynamic and vibrant Web

brought many people together throughout the world to reconnect and share interests. When you create
a profile on Facebook, you will have a timeline that becomes a chronology of your life. It is a place
where you can place your posts, photos, likes, dislikes, and you can update this on a daily or by the

Oppressed People Essay
The Oppressed People of Burma
Burma, like many other Southeast Asian nations, is a land of much culture and diversity of ethnic
groups. Unfortunately, unlike the people of other nations, the people of Burma have been stripped of
their human rights. Since the military junta had overtaken the Burmese government in 1988, the
people of Burma have been among the most oppressed people in the world. The continuation of the
government s brutality has caught the attention of many outside nations around the world who
increasingly have been intervening in Burma s issues to help its people. As these occurrences are a
major issue for the people of Burma, these problems are not restricted to its boundaries. They are also

Before that time, they had been a British colony since 1885. After fourteen years as an independent
country, they removed their government in 1962 and finally adopted a new constitution in 1974,
becoming a socialist republic. Shortly thereafter in 1988, the country s welfare turned into a brutal
military government and the military established a State Law and Order Resolution Council (SLORC)
to govern the country. Finally, in 1989 the country s name changed from Burma to Myanmar, a name
change that would parallel a change in the way the people of Burma would appreciate their lives prior
to 1988.
The Problem
Ever since Burma s government turned into a military power, the devastation that the people have had
to endure has led to intense oppression. This has become a problematic issue for Burma including its
neighboring countries such as Thailand. The government has acted inhumanely towards its people.
The oppressive acts include forced unpaid labor among its people, including its children and the
elderly. Specifically, children have been forced to labor in the fields of beans, bricks, chilies, corn,
pineapple, rice, rubber, sugarcane, and teak. Also, the government has also forced nearly half a million
of its people to move from their homes so that various projects of construction and resource extraction
can be conducted. An example of such a project is

Asher Lev Essay: Minor characters are central to our understanding of any text. Analyse their
significance in My Name Is Asher Lev.
Central to our understanding of My name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, is the dynamics of Asher s
relationship with different minor characters involved. Each minor character such as Yudel Krinsky,
Uncle Yitzchok, the Rebbe, and Jacob Kahn each help Asher in a different way allowing the reader to

He represents the actions of the Russian government sending people it hates, the Jews, and the result
of Asher s father tiresome work. As Asher learns to paint using more and more materials, Yudel

Asher with paint, he in a way repaying Asher back for Aryeh Lev s service to him. When Asher is at
his own home, or at his Uncle s house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and expands Asher s
artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors Asher and tries to help
Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his individuality. Asher is able to
talk to Yudel like a father, having open discussions with him, and on occasion helps him in the store
and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm by Asher in the latter part of the text
when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed because it feels like Asher s second home,
warm and cozy.
Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok s first technique of imagery is used to
describe him. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled
features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in uncomplimentary terms.
Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store quickly, said Aryeh, I have

My Life Of My Mother
Literacy has always been close to my identity as a person. My mother wanted the best for her children,
and therefore would sing and read to us as soon as we were born. She encouraged out love of words
and books by taking us to the library for reading time and always seemed to find the most amazing
books for us to explore. My mother is very musically gifted, so songs were part of our daily routine.
There are still little songs that pop into my head about daily tasks that she created to help us learn and
make work and learning fun. When I grew a bit older, around the age of four, my mother formed a
group with other women in our neighborhood to form a preschool. They used the Joy School
curriculum and took turns having all of us over to their homes so that we could learn and play
together. I remember there was lots of music, reading many books, playing all sorts of games, and a
yearly Christmas program. Around this time, I began to learn about phonics and loved figuring out
which letters made which sounds. My mother tells me that I liked to rhyme a lot as a little child
because I found it fun. She said she thinks this is when my love of poetry started to develop. As I
transitioned into early elementary school, I was well prepared to enter Kindergarten. Because I have
always been pretty independent and self driven, my mother did not really have to push me to read. I
started reading the summer before Kindergarten and knew most sight words and how to sound out

We need tank support, I repeat we need tank support! Imagine you re stuck prone in the middle of a
field and have no cover to get out of the predicament that you re in, then next thing you know you
have a tank rolling up alongside of you and they provide cover to get you to safety. Tanks and the
crew that operate them are very vital to the ground forces. Their lives most of the time depend on

Chimney 101: Why Your House Has One of Those
When you look at your roof, you may see some open pipes sticking out of it. What are these pipes and
why are they there? Some people call these chimneys, but it would be more technically correct to call
them vents or exhausts. In general, there are three types of chimneys that you can have on your roof.
Brick and Mortar Chimneys
The first is the standard chimney that goes to your fireplace. They are usually made of brick, stone, or
some other fire resistant material. Its purpose of course, is to give the smoke from the fire somewhere
to go. However, this chimney is much more than just a simple tunnel to the outside. There is a part in
the chimney that actively works to keep carbon dioxide from

The Lady Of Shalott Mood
Many poems carry heavy emotion with them, some with the beautiful aspects of nature, others speak
of bittersweet moments that bring something out of each reader that may come across it, but almost all
incorporate the use of setting to convey an emotion. In particular, one poem by acclaimed Victorian
author Alfred Lord Tennyson, brings together two opposing emotions and ties them together. In the
poem, The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, the setting affects the overall mood by creating brightness, a
move from bright to dim, and dismal moods. In The Lady of Shalott, the setting contributes to the
mood by producing a bright atmosphere. As the story unfolds, various descriptions of an upbeat
setting are seen, Up and down the people go, gazing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When describing the place that the Lady of Shalott lives in he writes, Four grey walls and four grey
towers, overlook a space of flowers. The four grey walls give a sense that she might be imprisoned,
and the four grey towers further give this impression because it shows that she is high up somewhere
far away from the ground. The next sentence, however, is a lighter tone speaking of flowers.
Following this is something that the Lady of Shalott sees through her mirror one day, A funeral, with
plumes and lights, and music, went to Camelot. The Lady of Shalott speaks not of a wedding or a
party but a funeral, which foreshadows her eminent demise. A funeral, in most cases, is a sad affair,
but here it is said to be full of lights and music, which brightens the mood again. Finally, Or when the
Moon was overhead, came two young lovers lately wed. The moon here is one of the first times in the
poem that night is mentioned, which might indicate the start of darkness in the story. Furthermore, the
two young lovers draw attention to her own loneliness, and is the first indication that she feels
saddened by being isolated. The poem then has a setting that moves from cheery mood to a dismal

Compulsory Education For All Children
In England compulsory education for all children starts at 5 years of age and continues up until the age
of 16 years (it has been changed to 17 years in 2013 and to 18 years in 2015 subject to a number of
conditions relating to the engagement of the student in employment, training and education).
Education for children is delivered according to their ages in schools. A school might be described as a
form of social organisation called an institution. An institution can be described as a structure for
social order that attempts to govern the behaviour of a set of individual people in a community. One
way of describing a school is as an institution constructed for the teaching of students (learners) under

Comparing Harold And Ana In Stranger Than Fiction
Harold and Ana are portrayed as an unlikely couple and their odd relationship is revealed through the
use of film techniques. These people are both characters from Marc Forster s stranger than fiction
film. The director used techniques such as colour, symbols and body language to show the difference
between the two and the unlikeliness of their relationship.
Ana and Harold are both associated with their own distinct colours that help show the audience who
they are and highlight their differences. The pair seems like an unlikely couple because the colours
that represent them show very different things about their personalities and that they are very different
people. Ana is shown often in a red setting, and red is incorporated into her clothes and tattoos. The
colour signifies passion and danger, Harold the opposite. He is often seen around blue, the colour
associated with coldness. As the film progresses Harold begins to be with other colours, like red.

The Importance Of Political Satire
For centuries, political satire and commentary has existed to add humor to serious and controversial
topics surrounding cultures at the time. Whether it was Shakespeare using comedy to explain a
tragedy or Daniel Tosh just saying it how it is to make people laugh, political satire has always been
controversial. Satire in the United States has consisted of pushing political boundaries to create
change, inspiring action through humor and most importantly, developing ongoing conversations
about real problems that the United States and the world are facing and fighting censorship in today s
culture.
Pushing political boundaries has been something political satirist have done for hundreds of years and
will continue to do regardless of the consequences that may be caused. Political office holders at all
levels typically assume that political satire may not be beneficial to political conversations. Some
believe that political satire doesn t do anything but cause false information to spread while others
believe that political satire affects how people view the candidates and in turn creates a bias against
the office holders work. Not only is political satire not devastating to political discourse, it actually
encourages and models promising new ways for people to connect with politics (Young, pg. 28)
Political satirist actually inspire their viewers to dig deeper into stories, participate in democratic
practices further and even create discussion inside their homes.

Processual Strategy
Processual, Rational, Fuzzy, Evolutionary 1. Processual approach: Strategy is produced in an
incremental fashion, as a pattern in a stream of decisions . Fuzzy approach: Companies sometimes
adopt an incremental approach to change. What s different between these two approach? The
Processual approach is really talking about strategy emerging from the many different day to day
decisions taken by the staff. It s incremental, in that it is occurring by being added to with each
decision taken. Each decision taken is based on what seems like the best thing to do at the time; and

And can I say Organization has a vision/mission (i.e. who we are and what we do) and we should have
strategy to fulfill this vision/mission . Strategy is really the actions taken by a business. The rational
approach to strategy is a deliberate attempt to decide on the best actions for the firm to take and
implement them. That is, the firm would have some objectives in mind, assess the external and
internal factors that impact on the business, evaluate their options as to how to achieve those
objectives given the internal and external assessment it has made, and then implement the best
options. Then of course, monitor what s happened in light of desired and reality, and do it all again,
with some changes as necessary. A deliberate, intended, rational method to achieve the best outcomes
it can. An example would be, after following the rational methodology, the firm decides to achieve
revenue growth through exporting to a new market, with their efforts directed to purposefully going
about achieving that aim. The processual approach is an emergent approach to strategy rather than
intended, designed and forethought, the direction that the firm is going in emerges from the everyday

The Transformation Of Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s The...
In Franz Kafka s novella, The Metamorphosis, the main character Gregor Samsa awakes from his
sleep transformed into a bug. As the story develops, not only does Gregor go through the phases of a
metamorphosis but also his family especially his sister Grete. If the novella is about hope, then it
would explain the actions and plot lines introduced to the reader. What is Grete s metamorphosis?
How does she bring new hope to the Samsa family? Is the hope found within the tragic transformation
of Gregor? When I first read the book the only metamorphosis that I examined was that of Gregor s,
however, as I began to analyze each paragraph deeply, Grete s metamorphosis came into light and
revealed a whole new meaning for the title. Grete transformed from being a young and respectful
daughter to being an independent and spiteful one. At the beginning of the novella, Grete is first
introduced like many other characters, she is the voice behind a wall; on the right side the sister began
to sob (17). Kafka allows the reader to assume that Grete is an anxious and overdramatic person, Grete
begins to cry just because Gregor won t open his door. Kafka again establishes Grete s melodramatic
personality with the use of free indirect speech, And why was she crying? (17). Even though Grete
was a childish girl at the beginning of the story, she was also very caring towards Gregor even after he
had shown himself to the world; But he could never guessed what his sister in her kindness [...] to test
his likings, she brought him a big selection (26). As the novella develops Grete grows as a woman,
and her personality matures. Grete now has taken over Gregor s family duties, and her stature in the
family has risen, We have to get rid of it (47). The use of direct speech gives Grete more authority
than her parents which gives her a lot of independence not only does Grete have more independence
but she also has become more spiteful towards Gregor; At last! to her parents as she turned the key in
the lock (49). The locking of the door shows the reader that Grete no longer cares for Gregor and has
realized that he was a considerable burden. Grete s evolution of actions from start to end in the novella

the fearmongering and massive information campaigns over avoiding such issues, which wouldn t be

appropriately, and use it to their advantage of gaining knowledge, rather than wilting it away with
societal norms. Therefore, digital citizenship becomes vital if technology is to be a part of education,

Are Video Games Art No But Playing Them Can Be Summary
In response to the article titled, Are Video Games Art? No But Playing Them Can Be, by author Phil
Hartup, he makes the argument that video games are not art, but rather the audience that engages
themselves in playing them makes it art. The author uses examples such as Mona Lisa and Michael
Bay just to support his claim, and while his claims are interesting, some of the stuff he says can be
ridiculous, in my opinion. I, myself, disagree with most of his claims. Video games have a big
influence on communities just like art, and not only that, but without graphic ARTISTS, we wouldn t
be able to have these video games that we have today. Video games, in my opinion have so much
creativity in them that they should be considered as art.
Hartup introduces his claim by giving examples of art such as the Mona Lisa and a few examples of
things with what Michael Bay does in movies. There is no direct dialogue with art, says Hartup, in
which this case, I must disagree. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, meaning that all
those details in paintings you see must give you some dialogue if you think about it. Many people
around the world are influenced and engaged with the dialogue of art, trying to find a deep meaning to
them, just like they are engaged in most video games in the same way. There is a lot of controversy

Basis Of International Trade Essay
International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic relations.
It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the boundaries of the
individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal economy with the
world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the productive forces and
international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995)
The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between the
domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists of
individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These theories
were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state has its own
foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and measures undertaken
by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments. (Markusen, 1995)
The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two
basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist
approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism, whose
supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004)
Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the

Beauty As A Standard Of Beauty Analysis
Given the societal view of whiteness as a standard of beauty, both Maureen Peal and Pecola Breedlove
struggle with distorted self perceptions and self hatred. Ultimately able to project both her hatred and
her insecurities elsewhere, Maureen is able to bloom despite adversity. Pecola, however, internalizes
the hatred at the hands of others and is left only to wither. Despite her efforts to beautify her
appearance through the use of expensive attire, Maureen Peal is unable to change the color of her skin.
Consequently, she is unable to live up to society s standard of beauty, defined by whiteness. A young
girl with a light dark complexion, Maureen Peal adopts a distorted self perception from an early age,
as she has been conditioned by society to view her blackness as inferiority. Wearing expensive
clothing, Maureen tries to compensate for what society perceives as a lack of beauty, Fluffy sweaters

Dale Doty states (2013, 1:12) when you can add new information into an existing schema you have
experienced the cognitive process of assimilation. Going back to that same example of the dog. Now
we see a dog in real life and we are comparing our template to the real thing. We then notice that the
dog also has the traits of barking and are furry. We then add that new information into the schema and
update our template of the dog. Now every time we are asked about the characteristics of dogs we
know they are ears, four legs, licks, barks, and is

Theoretical Frameworks For Counselling Offer Guiding...
Theoretical frameworks in counselling offer guiding perspectives and direction informing professional
practice. As a practitioner I am drawn to post modernist approaches that position the human
experience as a social construction, and reality as a result of perception, language and culture ( ).
Embedded however within that social construction for me is the necessity to consider the broader
social and political climate and issues of power that may play a role in the human experience. As a
counsellor, I would like to align with a therapeutic approach that values the diversity and experience
of multiple realities, and that supports clients in finding their power both within and outside the
counselling session. Embracing the client counsellor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Armed with this new awareness, the therapeutic process from a feminist perspective was
reconceptualized to include an emphasis on social and political forces and an acknowledgement of
their role in disempowerment for women (Brown, 2010). Additionally, the seed of creating a more
respectful and humanistic approach to the counselling relationship was planted. Raising the
consciousness of clients around power and focusing on societal transformation rather than individual
adjustment became the identify of feminist therapy and to what Lerner (1993) referred to as the
feminist consciousness . This perspective afforded practitioners a new way to view problems
presented in therapy.
Enns (2004) highlighted two such new views related to client problems. First, the perspective that, the
personal is political emphasized that problems arising for women within therapy cannot be
disconnected from the larger social and political context. To consider problems in therapy solely on an
intrapersonal level is to perpetuate a blame the victim orientation. Therefore, it was essential that an
integrated analysis of oppression was explored. Second, problems and symptoms may be conceived of
as ways of coping and surviving oppressive circumstances. Anxiety may be reframed, not as the result
of a suppressed unconscious or the inability to cope, but rather as a reasonable response to sexisms,
violence or

Light Color Lab
Light, Color, and Solutions Lab In this experiment, the relationships between wavelength, absorbance,
concentration, and cell path are explored through separate, smaller experiments. These relationships
can be combined to derive a single equation known as Beer s Law. This equation is then used to
identify an unknown solution s formula weight. A traditional artist s color wheel, using pigments,
consists of the colors of the rainbow. A color wheel using light, which is known as a chemist s color
wheel, also consists of the rainbow colors. The main difference between these two color wheels can be
seen when colors are mixed together. In the case of mixing light, when all of the colors are added
together, the result is white.1 When mixing pigments, however, the result of all colors combined is
black.1 Mixing colors of light together results in a lighter color; for example, mixing red and green
results in yellow, a lighter color.2 The combination of several paint colors results in a darker color due
to less colors of light being reflected.2 Essentially, the mixing of the colors of light uses the additive
color system while mixing pigment colors using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beer s Law cannot be used in all cases, however. Some of the limitations include that there are
deviations when solutions of greater than 0.01 M are used.4 Additionally, particulates being present

Beer s Law will be used to determine the molar absorptivity

Race In The Cyborg Manafesto, By Kurt Vonnegut
From experience as a student myself, students often read books and short stories and often only think
about what they are they are reading. People focus in on the material and nothing outside of it. The
idea of using another novel or story as a theoretical lens text never occurs to them. A theoretical lens is
when you use another piece of work to describe, or bring out more detail in another piece of work.
The Cyborg Manafesto by Donna Haraway compliments many of the ideas brought up in Breakfast of
Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Haraway s claims about race, the distinction between human and
machines, and the concept that humans are cyborgs all support the themes and ideas in Breakfast of
Champions. Donna Haraway s claim about humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that machines are not self moving, self designing, or autonomous,(Harraway 151). They
could not do what men could do, they could only mock it. As you look at Breakfast of Champions you
can see how this compliments the novel. This is pertaining to Dwayne Hoover, who is the other main
character in Breakfast of Champions. His actions at the end of the novel were because he couldn t not
distinguish the difference between humans and machines. Hoover went on a rampage at the end of the
novel. He was convinced everyone was a machine besides him and went on a rampage hurting many
people. He tried to justify his actions by saying everyone was else was a machine which meant they
didn t have feelings. So he couldn t hurt them. He didn t feel remorse because after all, he still thought
he attacked machines. Haraway s ideology compliments this because Dwayne Hoover needed to
realize the difference between humans and machines. His insanity drove him to the point where he
couldn t distinguish what was what and he only thought he, himself was a

Beauty Of A Girl With Doves
Beauty Among Death in Gravestone of a Girl with Doves The High Classical Greek Period is
considered to be the Golden Age in Greek Art according to Art Historians (Pearson). This period from
450 400 BCE held a lot of destruction because of the wars going between the Athens and Sparta,
known as the Peloponnesian War, however, there was also a lot of beauty during this period because
sculptures and architects made art that depicted victory over wars won, such as the Parthenon. Despite
all the madness happening during this high classical period, a peaceful piece of art was born.
Gravestone of a Girl with Doves is a Greek marble sculpture that was found on the island of Paros and
dates back to 450 440 B.C. Although it has typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this sculpture is a gravestone, I felt that the sculptor made this gravestone with a gradient effect
with the low/high reliefs in order to signify that the young girl was fading away into death. A peplos,
which is a typical garment seen on specifically women in Greek art, hangs over her shoulders and
seems to create a dragging down feeling to the sculpture since peplos is heavy fabric. The peplos also
accentuates her body without actually revealing much of anything, which was appropriate considering
the time period, the age of the girl depicted, and the purpose that the sculpture served as, which is as a
gravestone. There is no movement whatsoever, but there does seem to be a subtle vertical line running
through the young girl s contropossto stature.
An expression is worth a thousand words. The young girl depicted shows no emotion, which is a
typical characteristic in the classical greek style. It looks as though the girl depicted has her mind
somewhere else, which actually creates a sense of peacefulness since her expression is not one of pain
or discomfort . Unlike most Greek sculptures that are massive in size, this sculpture is smaller because
it depicts the death of a small child. According to the description besides this sculpture, the doves that
the girl is holding represent her innocence of childhood. They can also represent the kind of person

Memories in Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny...
In Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny Weatherall an old woman s light is slowly fading out
and memories from her past are phasing in and out of her head as she lives out her final moments. The
times she was jilted are pouring out of her memories, releasing themselves and allowing her the
peaceful death she so desires. She has good memories: memories of her children, memories of her
husband, and memories of her silly father: Her father had lived to be one hundred and two years old
and had drunk a noggin of strong hot toddy on his last birthday. He told the reporters it was his daily
habit, and he owed his long life to that (Porter 2). But it is the bad memories she s letting go of, the
memories of her many jiltings . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her children represent her strength, and she wishes to raise them many times over because they
provided her with the consistent happiness she so desired: Sometimes she wanted to see John again
and point to them and say, Well, I didn t do so badly, did I? (3).
She sometimes thought John would no longer recognize her; it had been so long that he would be a
child beside her if she saw him now (3). She doubts herself; she doesn t think John would recognize
her but reassures herself that his love and understanding would require no explanations of her. This
pride she derives from John and her children makes her jiltings seem more like a blessing: It made her
feel like rolling up her sleeves and putting the whole place to rights again (3). There were still so many
things she could do for her children; she didn t want to be taken yet: that would have to wait. That was
for tomorrow (3). She was telling death, tomorrow not today.
Her unpleasant memories were now beginning to flow out of her: For sixty years she had prayed
against remembering George, against losing her soul in the deep pit of hell (4). She was remembering
George, the man she had so loved that left her helpless upon the altar, betrayed her so cruelly. But the
whole while a comforting voice consoled her: Wounded vanity, Ellen, said a sharp voice in the top of
her mind. Don t let wounded vanity get the upper hand of you. Plenty of girls get jilted (4). Maybe the
voice of

  • 2. The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Analysis Mary Anne slipped through the Jungle weaving in and out of the thick vegetation, her fellow Green Berets appearing as a shadow behind her. She was dressed in a pink sweater which was a stark contrast to her machine gun and her character. Her movements were just as graceful as before but no longer for the simple purpose of appearing feminine. Her elegance was displayed in the way she moved, deliberately and silently, her whole body poised to strike down the enemy at the soonest opportunity. Mary Anne occasionally thought back to when she first arrived in Vietnam. She had wanted to get married and live in house by a lake with a husband and three kids. Mary Anne talks about the war in a positive light saying that when she is fighting is the only time she knows who she truly is. However, the author compares Mary Anne s relationship to war as being similar to a drug addiction. She has lost perspective on who she really is and only those around her can see her true self. In my story Mary Anne is described as having a longing for the fight which turns into an overwhelming urge to risk what is left of her life . This parallels the Song of the Tra Bong in its description of the drug like effect of war on Mary Anne. She consistently uses the phrase It s not bad to describe her transformation. It is like she is trying to convince herself that who she has become is okay and that there is no problem with what she is doing. This is not that different from the way a drug addict might try to find a justification for their behavior or at least understate its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Catholic Church Of Gothic And Scholastic Ideals As the rigidity of the Roman Catholic Church s power, influence, and corruption reached a climax during the Romanesque period, humanity s desire for a more pleasurable life began to increase. The Middle Ages brought about a transition that began to replace spiritual emphasis in life and highlighted intellectualism and religious skepticism. Though the church s power was not necessarily undermined, it was certainly revolutionized and dampened. Examples of this humanistic transformation were represented through the union of Gothic and Scholastic ideals. Rather than simply scare the population into being religious and pious, the Gothic era welcomed the population beginning with France, followed by the rest of Europe through the airy, dream like, colorful, and uplifting beauty of the Gothic Cathedrals. This radical change would not have come about were it not for Aristotle s nominalist philosophy during Antiquity, which pioneered the future revival of this somewhat liberal thinking. Aristotelian thought had been carried through the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and is regarded as the most remarkable movements of European intellectual history (Craig 11). The great originality and realism that Aristotle engineered provoked articulation and provided momentum for expanded thought and thinkers alike. Aristotle created a highly adaptable and able lifestyle that demanded more of humanity itself, [These] needs were not just religious but also medical, and, perhaps most important, ... The document is organized into a four sections: 1) research motivation; 2) research question based on literature gap; 3) interdisciplinary insights on piracy; and 4) conclusion providing reflection and insights of take always from an interdisciplinary perspective. Research Motivation In broad daylight during a hot day in 1982, barefooted and shirtless pirates paddling wooden canoes, attack an unarmed U.S. commercial ship delivering humanitarian relief in the seaport of Freetown, Sierra Leone. The shirtless pirates are armed as they swing their grappling hooks and ropes to climb the twenty five foot starboard hull. The pirates struggled to steal boxes of cigarettes; a form of currency in the poor coastal population. The U.S. ship operators often used cigarettes to bribe local African officials for port services. As customary, the U.S. vessel has no weapons, except a flare gun, which jams when fired at the roving pirates. The pirates are finally repealed by opposing shoeless and bare chested local natives with poison arrows. A naïve 20 year old engine cadet on his maiden voyage across the pond observes this chaos in bewilderment reminiscing from childhood that pirates were supposed to be fictional Disney characters. • 7. The 17th Amendment Of The United States Constitution The 17th Amendment The American government was created based on the principle of federalism, the system of government that establishes a written constitution that divides the powers of government to a federal and state level. The U.S. Federal Government consists of three branches, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. It also utilizes checks and balances so these branches have equal power. The main goal of federalism is to balance the central government with the state government, and initially the U.S. Constitution established that the Senate shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature (US Const. Article I, Section 3). However, in 1912 the 17th Amendment was ratified, which changed how Senators are elected. Instead of the people voting for state legislators who elect Senators, the people elected the Senators, making the election process of Senators a direct democracy. The Framers chose to create a republic instead of direct democracy in order to prevent social and elite groups from taking power. The 17th Amendment goes against does not just oppose the Constitution, but it also disputes the ideology of the American Government as a federal republic. Although most supporters of the 17th Amendment believe that it serves as a better mechanism for a representative government, it is unconstitutional because of its opposing qualities against the Framers who created the United States government with the vision of federalism and a republic. • 8. Thinking Outside the Box of Christianity Essay Humans have an attribute that animals do not have: free will. In our lives, we are frequently presented with many opportunities to make our own choices, but what exactly fuels and supports our decision making? Sometimes, we act impulsively for no reason, but for the most part, we are often influenced by various outside factors, such as past experiences, religious beliefs, or peer pressure, to make our choices. Emil Sinclair, the narrator of Herman Hesse s bildungsroman Demian, is an example of an individual who incorporates different aspects and beliefs of religion, particularly Christianity, into his life. This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated (Hesse 3). On occasion, he was certain that he was destined to be as orderly and superior as his mother and father perfect examples of the light realm. However, in spite of struggling to find his inner self, his path and hopes to achieve greatness go astray. Emil experiences his first sense of religious doubt after he tells a lie, and as a result, he feels that he has entered the realm of evil and sin. Unquestionably I belonged to the realm of light and righteousness; I was my parents child. But in whichever direction I turned I perceived the other world, and I lived within that other world as well, though often a stranger to it, and suffering from panic and a bad conscience (4 5). Keeping a secret from his guardians, Sinclair perceives his father as less powerful and holy. In a religious sense, Emil s feelings for his father represent his feelings for God, and thus Sinclair s image of Him as sacred is likewise diminished by his personal experience in the dark realm. In addition, Sinclair compares himself to the Prodigal son, but unlike the Prodigal son of Christian doctrine, Emil does not return to ask for forgiveness. As Emil Sinclair grows older, he is presented with distinct perspectives which differ with his religion, but instead of abandoning Christianity all together, he selects ... Lewis s Perelandra is one of the most religiously relevant fantasy novels ever written. Perelandra is a story of an unspoiled world, the Garden of Eden denied to the residents of earth but still open to the two inhabitants of Perelandra. C.S. Malendil requests that neither the Green Lady nor the King sleep on the fixed land that the floating islands surround. They may enter it, but to sleep on it is against the wishes of Malendil. This is the symbolic forbidden fruit of Perelandria. Sleeping on the fixed land and disobeying Malendil on Perelandria is to eating the apple and disobeying Christ on earth. It is over this that the battle will rage. While exploring the fixed land, the green Lady and Ransom spot a small spacecraft of some sort crash into the ocean nearby. From this, emerges Dr. Weston, who will represent the Devil while on Perelandria. Removing the air forces of the world is like taking a step back in time when wars were only fought on land or sea. WWI began only eleven short years after the Wright brothers achieved powered flight in 19031 and yet aircrafts were being used for surveillance and eventually combat purposes. It is understood that these aircrafts were primitive, but they laid down the foundation for what we know today as fighter jets. The gun attached to the French plane had metal plates to protect it from the bullets but Fokker realized that they were not one hundred percent protected. In the 1980s it was the over the hill style, wild partying, hair metal bands that dressed like girls to get girls. Today metal is associated with the overdone metal core genre that does everything the same as the next band. To me, metal culture is more than this. I list to metal that is a balls to the wall music. It holds no bar, takes no prisoner and doesn t bluntly give a crap what you or the next critic thinks. The bands my dad showed to me as a kid were the fast speed metal bands of Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth. These bands will always kick ass. Their music to me will never go out of style because they sang and wrote about the topics of war, religion, politics, addiction, and ones inner self. The metal music that has always made it to more of a mainstream culture was and always be associated with girls. As the story develops, not only does Gregor go through the phases of a metamorphosis but also his family especially his sister Grete. If the novella is about hope, then it would explain the actions and plot lines introduced to the reader. What is Grete s metamorphosis? How does she bring new hope to the Samsa family? Is the hope found within the tragic transformation of Gregor? When I first read the book the only metamorphosis that I examined was that of Gregor s, however, as I began to analyze each paragraph deeply, Grete s metamorphosis came into light and revealed a whole new meaning for the title. Grete transformed from being a young and respectful daughter to being an independent and spiteful one. At the beginning of the novella, Grete is first introduced like many other characters, she is the voice behind a wall; on the right side the sister began to sob (17). Kafka allows the reader to assume that Grete is an anxious and overdramatic person, Grete begins to cry just because Gregor won t open his door. Kafka again establishes Grete s melodramatic personality with the use of free indirect speech, And why was she crying? (17). Even though Grete was a childish girl at the beginning of the story, she was also very caring towards Gregor even after he had shown himself to the world; But he could never guessed what his sister in her kindness [...] to test his likings, she brought him a big selection (26). As the novella develops Grete grows as a woman, and her personality matures. Grete now has taken over Gregor s family duties, and her stature in the family has risen, We have to get rid of it (47). The use of direct speech gives Grete more authority than her parents which gives her a lot of independence not only does Grete have more independence but she also has become more spiteful towards Gregor; At last! to her parents as she turned the key in the lock (49). The locking of the door shows the reader that Grete no longer cares for Gregor and has realized that he was a considerable burden. The author uses examples such as Mona Lisa and Michael Bay just to support his claim, and while his claims are interesting, some of the stuff he says can be ridiculous, in my opinion. Takata Airbags The article Automakers Knew of Takata Airbag Hazard for Years, Suit Says covered in The New York Times newspaper writes about that at least four automakers Ford, Honda, Nissan and Ford knew about Takata defective airbags but continued to purchase them due to low costs. The allegations came hours before the plea deal was reached between Takata, a Tokyo based company manufacturing car airbags and its victims totaling in $125 million. These defective rupture prone airbags resulted in exploding metal shards injuring car drivers. The company knew of the airbags defects, but continued to manufacture and sell them to the automakers. • 42. Schema, Assimilation, And Accommodation The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the application of 3 key cognitive terms, Schema, Assimilation, and Accommodation, to the author s experience of military medical training. First, the author will briefly explain each term. Next, the author will describe how these terms can be experienced with military medical training as an instructor. A schema is a state of understanding to which our beliefs are formed and a framework is established. This framework is a direct template of how we see everything in the world. When we are learning about a dog we take its traits and form a schema. Those traits are as such: ears, four legs, and licks. Dale Doty states (2013, 0:39) we then use the schema we have developed as a means to compare new information against. Now when we are faced with new animals we then use our schemas to see if it fits under any of those templates we have already created. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dale Doty states (2013, 1:12) when you can add new information into an existing schema you have experienced the cognitive process of assimilation. Going back to that same example of the dog. Now we see a dog in real life and we are comparing our template to the real thing. We then notice that the dog also has the traits of barking and are furry. We then add that new information into the schema and update our template of the dog. Now every time we are asked about the characteristics of dogs we know they are ears, four legs, licks, barks, and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Theoretical Frameworks For Counselling Offer Guiding... Theoretical frameworks in counselling offer guiding perspectives and direction informing professional practice. As a practitioner I am drawn to post modernist approaches that position the human experience as a social construction, and reality as a result of perception, language and culture ( ). Embedded however within that social construction for me is the necessity to consider the broader social and political climate and issues of power that may play a role in the human experience. As a counsellor, I would like to align with a therapeutic approach that values the diversity and experience of multiple realities, and that supports clients in finding their power both within and outside the counselling session. Embracing the client counsellor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Armed with this new awareness, the therapeutic process from a feminist perspective was reconceptualized to include an emphasis on social and political forces and an acknowledgement of their role in disempowerment for women (Brown, 2010). Additionally, the seed of creating a more respectful and humanistic approach to the counselling relationship was planted. Raising the consciousness of clients around power and focusing on societal transformation rather than individual adjustment became the identify of feminist therapy and to what Lerner (1993) referred to as the feminist consciousness . This perspective afforded practitioners a new way to view problems presented in therapy. Enns (2004) highlighted two such new views related to client problems. First, the perspective that, the personal is political emphasized that problems arising for women within therapy cannot be disconnected from the larger social and political context. To consider problems in therapy solely on an intrapersonal level is to perpetuate a blame the victim orientation. Therefore, it was essential that an integrated analysis of oppression was explored. Second, problems and symptoms may be conceived of as ways of coping and surviving oppressive circumstances. Anxiety may be reframed, not as the result of a suppressed unconscious or the inability to cope, but rather as a reasonable response to sexisms, violence or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Light Color Lab Light, Color, and Solutions Lab In this experiment, the relationships between wavelength, absorbance, concentration, and cell path are explored through separate, smaller experiments. These relationships can be combined to derive a single equation known as Beer s Law. This equation is then used to identify an unknown solution s formula weight. A traditional artist s color wheel, using pigments, consists of the colors of the rainbow. A color wheel using light, which is known as a chemist s color wheel, also consists of the rainbow colors. The main difference between these two color wheels can be seen when colors are mixed together. In the case of mixing light, when all of the colors are added together, the result is white.1 When mixing pigments, however, the result of all colors combined is black.1 Mixing colors of light together results in a lighter color; for example, mixing red and green results in yellow, a lighter color.2 The combination of several paint colors results in a darker color due to less colors of light being reflected.2 Essentially, the mixing of the colors of light uses the additive color system while mixing pigment colors using the ... • 46. Race In The Cyborg Manafesto, By Kurt Vonnegut From experience as a student myself, students often read books and short stories and often only think about what they are they are reading. People focus in on the material and nothing outside of it. The idea of using another novel or story as a theoretical lens text never occurs to them. A theoretical lens is when you use another piece of work to describe, or bring out more detail in another piece of work. The Cyborg Manafesto by Donna Haraway compliments many of the ideas brought up in Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Haraway s claims about race, the distinction between human and machines, and the concept that humans are cyborgs all support the themes and ideas in Breakfast of Champions. Donna Haraway s claim about humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is said that machines are not self moving, self designing, or autonomous,(Harraway 151). They could not do what men could do, they could only mock it. As you look at Breakfast of Champions you can see how this compliments the novel. This is pertaining to Dwayne Hoover, who is the other main character in Breakfast of Champions. His actions at the end of the novel were because he couldn t not distinguish the difference between humans and machines. Hoover went on a rampage at the end of the novel. He was convinced everyone was a machine besides him and went on a rampage hurting many people. He tried to justify his actions by saying everyone was else was a machine which meant they didn t have feelings. So he couldn t hurt them. He didn t feel remorse because after all, he still thought he attacked machines. Haraway s ideology compliments this because Dwayne Hoover needed to realize the difference between humans and machines. • 47. Beauty Of A Girl With Doves Beauty Among Death in Gravestone of a Girl with Doves The High Classical Greek Period is considered to be the Golden Age in Greek Art according to Art Historians (Pearson). This period from 450 400 BCE held a lot of destruction because of the wars going between the Athens and Sparta, known as the Peloponnesian War, however, there was also a lot of beauty during this period because sculptures and architects made art that depicted victory over wars won, such as the Parthenon. Despite all the madness happening during this high classical period, a peaceful piece of art was born. Since this sculpture is a gravestone, I felt that the sculptor made this gravestone with a gradient effect with the low/high reliefs in order to signify that the young girl was fading away into death. A peplos, which is a typical garment seen on specifically women in Greek art, hangs over her shoulders and seems to create a dragging down feeling to the sculpture since peplos is heavy fabric. The peplos also accentuates her body without actually revealing much of anything, which was appropriate considering the time period, the age of the girl depicted, and the purpose that the sculpture served as, which is as a gravestone. There is no movement whatsoever, but there does seem to be a subtle vertical line running through the young girl s contropossto stature. An expression is worth a thousand words. The young girl depicted shows no emotion, which is a typical characteristic in the classical greek style. It looks as though the girl depicted has her mind somewhere else, which actually creates a sense of peacefulness since her expression is not one of pain or discomfort . Unlike most Greek sculptures that are massive in size, this sculpture is smaller because it depicts the death of a small child. According to the description besides this sculpture, the doves that the girl is holding represent her innocence of childhood. They can also represent the kind of person she ... In Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny Weatherall an old woman s light is slowly fading out and memories from her past are phasing in and out of her head as she lives out her final moments. The times she was jilted are pouring out of her memories, releasing themselves and allowing her the peaceful death she so desires. She has good memories: memories of her children, memories of her husband, and memories of her silly father: Her father had lived to be one hundred and two years old and had drunk a noggin of strong hot toddy on his last birthday. He told the reporters it was his daily habit, and he owed his long life to that (Porter 2). But it is the bad memories she s letting go of, the memories of her many jiltings . ... (3). She sometimes thought John would no longer recognize her; it had been so long that he would be a child beside her if she saw him now (3). She doubts herself; she doesn t think John would recognize her but reassures herself that his love and understanding would require no explanations of her. This pride she derives from John and her children makes her jiltings seem more like a blessing: It made her feel like rolling up her sleeves and putting the whole place to rights again (3). There were still so many things she could do for her children; she didn t want to be taken yet: that would have to wait. That was for tomorrow (3). She was telling death, tomorrow not today. Her unpleasant memories were now beginning to flow out of her: For sixty years she had prayed against remembering George, against losing her soul in the deep pit of hell (4). She was remembering George, the man she had so loved that left her helpless upon the altar, betrayed her so cruelly.
