Persuasion By Jane Austen
Jane Austen is perhaps the most popular and widely read English novelists, whose books have been
adapted and parodied countless times. On that note, what is there that I can say which has not already
been said regarding this major author. With this in mind, I will try explore her work in a manner that
would do her justice. For my essay I will look to analyze Austen s heroines and the Thorpe s that seem
to be present in her novels. The heroines of Austen s tales often come to enjoy a distinctive
relationship with the man she eventually marries. This idea differs from novel to novel but the
outcome regularly changes.
Persuasion is one of Austen s last major novels and the foundations for my essay. Persuasion along
with most of Austen s work focuses on marriage plots and happy ever after s. Austen s own social
position in society was a daughter of a clergyman, placing her family comfortably in middle class
English society. Her writing often reflects her views as she satirically criticizes certain gentry of
society as prudent. Evidently this can be seen through her description of the vain Sir Walter Elliot,
who is forced to leave their family home because of his ignorance and imprudent disregard for wealth.
Anne Elliot is our protagonist and heroine of the novel. She has a satirical sense of humour and is very
attentive. Although she may not be one of Austen s most attractive heroines, once her better ... Show

What any of her famed followers could surely gather from the novels in her collection is that the
concept of freedom and selfishness is often associated with the unsympathetic characters. Emma for
instance has been doing just what she liked for most of her existence (1). These traits could also be
adapted to many other characters in the novel, but to emphasize on one individual disdainfully would
be Elizabeth Elliot, Anne s older sister. She is depicted in a very Emma like

The Love Boat Show Analysis
Love Boat Week 6 Presentation Script By Lucas da Paz This presentation draws to a greater extent on
the problem of jurisdiction, which particular crimes primarily happen on cruise ships as well as
analysing The Love Boat TV series to draw on the hidden meanings behind the show and themes that
are conveyed. The Love Boat The Love Boat show is about the characters dealing with their problems
like getting a lack of love as described by Cathy Schwichtenberg in her readings. It is about the
characters going on a love boat journey whilst encountering problems such as finding the wrong lover
based off mistaken identities (Schwichtenberg,1984). Love is a complex, abstract relation between
two people (Schwitchenberg,1984).However, in the Love Boat tv series, love is objectified and can be
bought , it is another commodity when linked with another object a boat with the ultimate reward of
love being exchanged with money for a cruise, creating the false pretence and idea that love can be
bought (Schwichtenberg,1984). The Kerry Act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gay marriage persuasive essay
Gay Marriage in the United States
The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial topic
recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the U.S..
Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other twenty six
states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal
across the United States.
Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage, then
the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of the
United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content on

I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post
menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their
wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the
marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same sex couples aren t the
optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an interesting one, in light of who society
does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted
felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so
every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here,
why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above
categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted
and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific
studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples
are just as good as those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be
insignificant. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the

Becoming Paramedic Essay
A profession that is jam packed with adrenaline is that of a paramedic. Medical emergencies,
accidents, fires, and others are normal cases for these every day heroes. Paramedics are categorized as
a part of the health care team. They are well trained when it comes to tasks like administering oxygen,
drugs, responding to life threatening situations and even advanced medical procedure to save the lives
of millions of people. They are also among those who respond to health and wellness monitoring
systems.
Such medical alert systems are used by people, mostly senior citizens, to alert proper authorities of
emergency situations. An example of such systems is Life Alert. People with aged parents usually
research Life Alert price so they can purchase it for their parents. Then, when an emergency occurs,
just a quick press of a button will alert paramedics, cops, doctors, and others of it so they can respond
right away. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s how tough their chosen career is. For people who are passionate about this path, becoming
certified paramedics is the way to go. Undergoing the challenges of the paramedic training is the only
path that can prepare them for the rough roads ahead.
Paramedic training is the starting point for all the aspiring paramedics but becoming a physician is not
a prerequisite to being a paramedic. This training can mold them into becoming professionals while
ensuring that they are packed with knowledge and skills during emergency scenarios. Training
includes basic life support, wound dressing, taking vital signs, recording important information, and
many more skills that a paramedic must possess.
The training does not only help aspirants to become a step closer to being a certified paramedic, it also
gives great benefits to the betterment of the individual as a whole. Here are some benefits of the

Abuse in Foster Care Essay
About two thirds of children admitted to public care have experienced abuse and neglect, and many
have potentially been exposed to domestic violence, parental mental illness and substance abuse
(Dregan and Gulliford). These children are being placed into foster care so that they can get away
from home abuse, not so they can move closer towards it. The foster children s varied outcomes of
what their adult lives are is because of the different experiences they grew up with in their foster
homes. The one third of those other foster children usually has a better outcome in adult life than the
other two thirds, which is a big problem considering the high percentage of children being abused in
their foster homes. Although, the foster care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, if the child does not approve of the family or the family s lifestyle he/she can ask the child
welfare workers to change foster homes, which they usually do. The foster care program likes to avoid
the homes that abuse the foster child in any way, shape, or form. Usually the child does not enjoy the
foster home during the first segment of the transition, but after some time adjusting to the
surroundings and getting to know more people their own age the child will feel comfortable at the
family foster home. Foster children are placed in foster homes because of their parents participating in
physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological abuse, and/or neglect towards their children; however,
the parents of the foster children are affected by their children being put into foster homes and
therefore has complex feelings towards the program. Parents usually put up a defensive shield when
people tell them how to raise their child, and they think the foster care program is supposedly raising
their children how they should raise them and not how they currently are raising them. When the
mother/father visits the foster child there is usually shared tension between the two relatives because
the child has a new family now. Nevertheless, while there the mother/father is making the child think

Comparison Of Political Parties
America is in the midst of tunnel vision With all the political parties in the mix today it can be
confusing to an average citizen who works daily to feed the family and pay the bills. You have
Democrats and Republicans today that used to be light years apart and today they are shadows of one
another. Many feel the Libertarian and Independent parties are not strong enough to carry the load in
government. There are words such as conservative, socialist, progressive and liberal that are thrown
about like the wind. For example their are similarities to the progressive party and the socialist party.
They want the same goal just in a different way. Socialism is an economic system where the
government runs and controls the production resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conservatives are generally and not always part of the republican party. These parties have
changed so much since their inception. And with all the negative feelings of each party towards one
another we are giving rise to the Roman Empire Theory where America is seen in similarities to the
old Roman Empire that collapsed upon itself. Here are some examples of the connections: First, the
huge cost of elections today have spiralled out of control costing billions of dollars. This is creating
the appearance that our leaders are puppets of specail interest groups. In the Roman Empire, towards
the end the elections were costing staggering amounts and causing terrible results. Thus, weakening
the system. Second, in the late Roman Empire the road to wealth was seen as being in the political
arena. The Roman leaders would accumulate great amounts of personal wealth. Today the very same
thing is happening across America with those who want to become very wealthy get into the politics
and seek a seat either in Congress or the Presidency. Third, as the Roman Empire spiralled down there
were wars and a national state of security arose. The same can be said for America as in the last
century we have had several wars and now the security of the nation is being challenged. Fourth,
during the last years of the Roman Empire the leaders were given wealth from other nations to buy
their influence to help them in return. The same is happening in America today as foreign powers send
huge sums of money to our various leaders to gain their favor. Fifth, the Romans in their last years
made huge profits from their business in foreign countries. In America today, many large corporations
have there manufacturing plants in other nations and reaping higher dividends. And Lastly, in the last
days of the Roman Empire the middle class was

Living A Life Of Poverty
All over the world, many have gone through the struggle of poverty. You don t have to be homeless to
struggle more than the next person, it could be just not having lights on in your home, past due rent, or
maybe not having enough or anything at all to eat. Many, feel like because they go through similar
things that they will never accomplish anything due to them not having the resources. Others around
you can be very doubtful of you too, which could make you believe even more that you weren t meant
to go further in life. Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Small s song Juicy,
released in 1994 from his Ready to Die album, selling over 607,000 copies is a great example of living
a life of poverty. Biggie tells of his story through song, where he relates of doubtful people and his
struggle. This song is about a young black male who went from poverty to living his version of the
American dream based on textual analysis of the lyrics.
Biggie makes it known throughout his entire song that he isn t ashamed of how he grew up before
wealth. I think that his main point was to let people know that he will never forget where he came
from and that it s the lessons he learned during his childhood/teen years, that undisguisedly got him to
where he is now. From the beginning to end of the song Biggie lets us in on little bits of his past, for
example Remember when I used to eat sardines for dinner (verse 1, line 14). In this lyric, he talks of
how it was one of the

Critique Of Characters In Cobalt Blue By Sachin Kundalkar
I put down Sachin Kundalkar s Cobalt Blue a couple of days ago and the characters continue to haunt
me. Kundalkar has so vividly painted them into my mind that they seem to have made a home for
themselves in there. Over the next couple of days, I have found myself reaching out for the book, re
reading paragraphs at random and with every read I feel like I have opened a whole new world. I have
been musing at the simplicity and the beauty of the story, and I have concluded that no review could
ever do justice to the gem that is this work.
Cobalt Blue was originally written and published in Marathi by Sachin Kundalkar when he was only
22 years old (his age is of no importance, until you put down the book and realise that someone wrote
a book so profound and meaningful when he was at the same age as you). For almost ten years the
book remained a treasure to only those who spoke Marathi, till Jerry Pinto, at Shanta Gokhale s
request translated it into English. A lot is lost in translation, a fact that is acknowledged by Pinto in his
afterword. However, Pinto took extra care to retain the essence of the novel, which is something that
those who are not fluent in Marathi would appreciate. Teresa Lavender Fagan, translator, says, A
translator must absorb the essence of a work, feel the author s soul and do what she can to minimize
what must necessarily be lost. The paradox of translation: the desire to replicate a work in one s own
language while knowing it can never truly be

Descriptive Essay On A Deer
The spray flew up from my front tires, drenching my windshield, and the thought struck me; I haven t
driven through a puddle in months!
My veteran bow hunters had started the season strong, turning down shots at younger deer in hopes of
tagging one of several mature bucks that had been out in full view that first evening. All creatures
enjoyed the return of the much needed rain including the normally nocturnal older deer.
A shot taken by a new archer flew harmlessly over the back of a mid 150 s whitetail that would have
ruined her for life. Good thing she missed. A veteran hunter mentioned that it was the first time since
the Hemorrhagic outbreak killed so many deer that we were seeing multiple trophy animals on a
single hunt. That it felt like the, Old glory days.
We were all in high spirits until the rain decided to stay.
For the next three days, when it wasn t raining, there was a thick mist that still required the windshield
wipers to cut tracks through the layers of moisture. I looked at nearly two inches collected in a bucket
and silently repeated the same lines shared all weekend, We should enjoy it while we can.
Hadn t we just been praying for a cloud burst at Mass.
At first, the moisture had been a blessing that covered out scent and allowed deer to pass directly
under our stands without detecting hunters who were only a few feet above. By the third day, clothing
that had never had a chance to fully dry began to faintly give off the aroma of wet dog.

Plastic Bag
What s So Bad About Plastic Bags? Plastic bags are not biodegradable. They clog waterways, spoil
the landscape, and end up in landfills where they may take 1,000 years or more to break down into
ever smaller particles that continue to pollute the soil and water. Plastic bags also pose a serious
danger to birds and marine mammals that often mistake them for food. Thousands die each year after
swallowing or choking on discarded plastic bags. Finally, producing plastic bags requires millions of
gallons of petroleum that could be used for transportation or heating.

Atherosclerosis Essay
What are some types of heart and blood vessel diseases? HARDENING OF THE ARTERIES, or
atherosclerosis, is when the inner walls of arteries become narrower due to a buildup of plaque
(usually caused by a diet high in fat, cigarette smoking, diabetes or hypertension). This limits the flow
of blood to the heart and brain. Sometimes, this plaque can break open. When this happens, a blood
clot forms and blocks the artery. This can cause heart attacks and strokes. HIGH BLOOD
PRESSURE, also called hypertension, means the pressure in your arteries is consistently above the

Plebeians Underdogs
Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome
There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the
tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman
citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important.
Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of
them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in
ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica.,

or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on

Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who
did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims
and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not

Hemp In North Dakota
Kentucky has a well developed pilot program to serve as an example. A 2013 Kentucky statute aims to
bring Kentucky to the forefront of the hemp market. The statute calls for research by state Universities
into subjects such as breeding hemp to suit Kentucky, the benefits for business, and economic
opportunities for hemp products.Aside from University research, commercial production by farmers is
allowed in the state. Kentucky law requires a license to grow hemp (subject to a background check).
The state lists 162 hemp farmers participating in its Research Pilot Program as of 2016.
North Dakota
North Dakota is notable for allowing industrial hemp farming as early as 1999, making it one of the
first states to do so. The state passed two laws in early 2007 supporting the production of industrial
hemp. The first allows that processors, in addition to farmers, can seek a state license to handle
industrial hemp. The second allows anyone with a state license to import and resell certified industrial
hemp. Like Kentucky, North Dakota allows hemp farming by individuals who have been licensed by
the state s agriculture commissioner. The process of licensing includes a background check, and
licenses can be refused to anyone who does not pass. These licenses do not require DEA approval. ...

Teaching in Australia
Teaching: Complexities In Teacher s Work In Australia The objective of this study is to discuss
important complexities in teacher s work. According to Churchill, et al (2013) The commitment to
teaching brought to the studies and careers of teachers confirms that today s teachers and teachers
previously genuinely love to learn and have a great desire to teach. Churchill et al (2013) states that
this deep commitment to humanity and making a difference in the lives of the next generation are
among the qualities of people drawn to a career in teaching. (p.4) Some students are able to recall the

A Brief Note On Seismic Hazard Analysis On The Event Of A...
Summary of proposed research
Seismic hazard analysis is an important tool in mitigating risks in the event of a disastrous seismic
event like an earthquake. This can be done by studying the behaviour of the soil in locations that are
within seismically active regions using several geophysical methods. This project employs the use the
cost effective microtremor method in studying the site response in Kathmandu, Nepal, following the
April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha. Analysis of the field data will yield information that could be used by
the Government and people of Kathmandu, Nepal, in reviewing their building construction codes and
other policies to minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake. This is very important considering
the location of Kathmandu which is within the seismically active Himalayas.
Statement of the problem
Kathmandu lies within the tectonically active Himalayan mountain range, which is a continental
continental convergent boundary. Kathmandu is located in an approximately 500 m deep sedimentary

Argumentative Essay On Chemical Weapons

Assignment

Title
War, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is A state of armed conflict between different nations or
states or different groups within a nation or state (citation). War truly does bring out the worst of in the
people involved, because in war the objective is to kill or capture enough of the opposing sides
soldiers to show that your side is superior. Both sides will take any measures necessary to win, a few
examples of this being Mustard gas, Ricin, Agent Orange, and Sarin . When guns and other weapons
will not cut it, that s when in the mind of the governments that chemical warfare became necessary .
Since these four chemicals and many more have been used throughout history, the Chemical Warfare
Convention banned all forms of chemical weapons, due to the lasting effects of the chemicals on both
nations and individuals of those nations. The way the CWC defines a chemical weapon is a toxic
chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation
through its chemical action.
A Chemical Weapon according to Joe Carter of Erlc.com , is a toxic chemical contained in a delivery
system, such as a bomb or a shell . The first chemical weapon ever used was Chlorine. This toxic gas
was first used at the Second Battle of Ypres on April 22, 1915. Toxic gases were looked down upon
and considered inhumane before World War one. Soon after the toxic chlorine was used for the first
time in 1915, the Germans

Mental Health Problems And Violence Among Criminal Offenders
Assessment 1
The main topic of study is to determine whether there is a correlation between mental health problems
and violence among criminal offenders. The purpose of the study conducted by (Felson, Silver and
Vaneseltine) was to examine whether criminal offenders with mental health problems were more
likely to commit violent crimes in comparison to offenders without mental health problems. (p 405).
There are elements which will be critiqued and analysed further.
There is a focus of a particular type of study which is the relationship between mental health problems
and violence against criminal offenders. The problem is researchable and can be investigated through
the collection and analysis of data this is evident in the article which ... Show more content on

The text is organised very clearly with sub headings for different elements which were researched by
the authors.
One of the key issues is the generalisation of the data produced. Although there were approximately
17,000 participants, all of the participants were criminal offenders, who had not been committed to a
psychiatric institution; therefore it is difficult to determine whether there is any connection with
individuals with mental health problems and the violence committed by them. There are researchers
who will agree with the hypothesis put forward in this journal article however there are researchers
who claim that there is not strong enough evidence to suggest whether or not the hypothesis can be
held true. Moreover, the important elements have been excluded from this study such as, alcohol and
drug use.
In addition, the method used had variables which could not be controlled. In the instance of the
participants, it is quite common for the participants of the study to lie about whether or not they suffer
from mental health problems. This may be due to the participants being aware of how they may be
perceived by society and the general public. The data provided by the participants can be affected by
social desirability,

The Debate Over Gay Marriage
Although gay marriage has been legalized in all of the United States, the idea is still heavily debated.
Richard Fitzgibbons, one of the various authors of the book Homosexuality: Opposing Viewpoints
(Homosexuality is Caused by Psychological Trauma, p.36) believe that in order to get rid of pain, a
person can be overcome by strong, erotic desires and actions, however, this does not entirely make
sense. If a man were to be sexaully assaulted by another man, they would, more than likely remain
straight, considering they were hurt by someone of the same sex.
Religion Several people use religion as an argument against homosexuality, such as Matt Slick, writer
of the article What does the Bible say about homosexuality?. Matt uses the bible as a source quoting
scriptural citations, such as in Leviticus 18:22, where it says: You should not lay with a male as one
lies with a female; it is an abomination. This, however, only makes a strong argument in the case of a
person who actually believes there is a God. Also, in Leviticus chapter 19, verse 27, the bible clearly
says that one should not shave the hairs at the sides of their head, which basically means that haircuts
were also a sin. Homosexuality is Unnatural
Many times, in an article, a person against gay marriage, or homosexuality in general will use the
argument that

The Argument
Abstract
My father always told me that Nothing in life is free . For years I have always been weary when I was
told something was free. I would have to double check and ask the question Am I really getting this
for nothing . Most of the time the answer was; No . The first time I remember dealing with this was
buying my first car. It was a beautiful 1993 Ford Explorer, jet black, low miles, and it had a great
stereo. The salesman had everything done and ready for me to sign. My father looked over the
contract and noticed a service fee hidden in the price. According to the salesman, all service for the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of NMR Spectroscopy
NMR spectroscopy is a powerful analytical tool used for studying both structural and chemical
information about the sample. When it is implemented for metabolomics studies NMR provides
several advantages. Firstly, NMR based metabolic profiling can be highly quantitative and
reproducible. This is extremely helpful when multivariate analysis are usually performed in
metabolomic analysis (Nicholson and Wilson 1989). Furthermore, NMR sensitivity is hardly affected
by metabolite pKa or hydrophobicity, which suggests that NMR is an excellent choice for samples in
different conditions (Pan and Raftery 2007). In many metabolomics studies, e.g. milk (Lu, Antunes
Fernandes et al. 2013), human serum (Trygg, Gullberg et al. 2005), NMR performed successfully ...

Inaccuracy In Selma
Selma, a 2014 film directed by Ava DuVernay, follows Martin Luther King Jr. s campaign during the
Civil Rights Movement. The film hones in on the historical march from Selma to Montgomery in
1965 which King organized as a Civil Rights protest.1 When initially watching the film, it seems as
though Selma does an appreciable job of depicting the challenges in which African Americans
endured while advocating for their rights, particularly the right to vote. While there is no doubt that
African Americans during this time suffered great hardships, upon further research, it can be argued
that Selma does not depict how these events transpired in an entirely accurate manner. The film uses
heart wrenching dramatization to evoke a sense of emotion from ... Show more content on

While the film demonizes Johnson and suggests that he was working against those taking part in the
Civil Rights Movement, this is not historically correct. Although his actions in proposing the Voting
Rights Act were delayed, Johnson was a crucial ally in the quest for black voting rights throughout the
Civil Rights Movement.3 The film depicts several meetings between King and Johnson where
Johnson is rather harsh and ignorant towards King s pleas, while in reality, Johnson . . . [only] wanted
the dust to settle from the Civil Rights Act . . . before he could propose a voting rights bill.3 Following
the protest in Selma which broke out in violence, Johnson spoke on national television of how it is
wrong to inflict violence upon innocent citizens, and it is equally as wrong to deny a citizen the right
to vote based on the color of their skin.3 The film omits these events in order to demonize Johnson
and make for a more dramatic and emotion provoking storyline, but in doing so, the audience is not
able to learn of how these historical events actually unfolded. Johnson was an important ally not only
to King, but to all who were fighting during the Civil Rights Movement; this is an important fact that
Selma deprives its audience

The Discovery Of A Forensic Anthropologist And Mystery...
Introduction
In many years, scientific and technological principles have been portrayed and been popular in many
television shows and movies. In year 2005, a television show that is based on real life story of a
forensic anthropologist and mystery novels writer Keith Reich was made to a television show. Hart
Hanson created the shows entitled Bones on which the story is based on a forensic anthropologist who
is teamed up with FBI agent that focus on scientific process to solved the mystery of human remains,
specifically human bones. In many episodes of Bones, the scientific process that always present is on
how the team can manage to identify the human remains with the process of carbon dating that
became a topic of interest of many critics and viewers of the shows. Like many science oriented
shows, bones was made from Hollywood that viewers questioned or argued about how the science
process or carbon dating can really identify the age of human remains and how accurate the show
bones in real life.
Carbon dating
According to Brad Peroney (2014), Carbon dating compares the amount of radioactive carbon to
ordinary carbon in old objects to figure out how long ago something, or someone lived (Peroney,
2014). Carbon dating also called as radioactive carbon or carbon 14 dating is a method of age
determination that depends upon the decay to nitrogen of radiocarbon (carbon dating, 2015).Carbon

Compare And Contrast Florentine Art In The Quattrocento
In the 15th Century, Italy was the hub of the arts, humanism, technological innovations and science.
This period is commonly referred to as the Renaissance, and it is stated that Florence was in the heart
of it, although Venice was also prominent in its artistic development. In this essay, the characteristics
of Florentine and Venetian art in the Quattrocento will be analysed, and a comparison and contrast
between the two will be conducted.
In the Quattrocento, Italy was divided into different city states, such as Florence, Venice, Milan and
Siena , amongst others, each ruled by its own government. In this essay, the focus will be on Florence
and Venice and smaller cities which were influenced by their artists. The Renaissance started in
Florence, a few years after the year 1400 . The 15th Century in Italy, also known as the Quattrocento ,

Classical antiquity, soon became the best sculptor of his time, by depicting figures larger than life,

To my consideration, I d advice Pamphilius the following. First of all, I d recognize that when field C
was sold to Pamphilius it should have been established what benefits the field had. However, this data
is not given to me.
Servitude is an interest disconnected from the proprietorship of an inferior property, being the smaller
one the servient estate or inferior and the superior one the dominant estate (which would be field A,
the one with the river flow) leaving field C to be the inferior estate in this case. The dominant estate
has the Ius in re which is the right in property in common law. This means that the estate has either jus
in re propria, the right to use the land in any way the owner likes to within legal parameters; or jus in
re aliena which includes security interests for inferior estates. Again, we lack the information on which
type of right Catullus would have in this case.
I do believe that Catullus is right to claim that the servitude had extinguished because at some point he
owned fields A and C. Although he might not have established that he would take away the water from
field C, at that point the field was his, and he could do what he pleased with it and ... Show more

President Ronald Reagan And President Reagan
Being president is a huge responsibility, and there are some who have done an excellent job. Then
there are others who have made our economy, as well as our country, go down the drain. However, I
have to hand it to President Ronald Wilson Reagan, because the time he was in office he really
pumped the country up, and did a tremendous job running it as well as helping in every way he could.
Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Reagan passed away June 5, 2004,
and was buried in Simi Valley, California. He graduated from Eureka College in 1932 with a Bachelor
s of Arts degree in social science and economics. Before Mr. Reagan was president he was also an
actor, and performed in 53 different movies. He was of the Christian religion. President Ronald
Reagan was the 40th president, and part of the Republican party. The First Lady was Nancy Reagan,
and the Vice President was George H.W. Bush while Ronald Reagan was in office. They were
successful with two terms together from 1981 until 1989. Obviously Reagan liked politics, and
definitely caught his attention since that is what he graduated from college with. But, his political
views really shifted from liberal to republican in the 1960 s while supporting Nixon in Nixon s
campaign in California against Pat Brown. Reagan did quite a few General Electric speeches for
Nixon as well in his campaign. The result from these speeches was merely freedom is what the people

Optical, morphological and photoluminescence spectroscopic studies of PVA/AgNO3films after γ
irradiation xxxxxxxxx
Abstract
In this paper, PVAAgNO3 films were prepared by casting method. Then irradiated with different
gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). UV visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope,
EDX and photoluminescence spectroscope were used to characterize the prepared films. UV visible
absorption spectra showed a peak at 200 nm for PVA. And a peak at 427 nm for the surface plasmon
resonance of silver nanoparticles. This peak increases with gamma doses until 125 KGy, its decrease
for front surface. And increase continuously with gamma doses on the back surface. SEM images and
EDX spectra showed that the silver appear on the front surface as silver atoms, and with increasing the
gamma doses is disappeared and then appear at the back surface at the highest doses (125 KGy) as a
nanorods.. While PL intensity decrease for front surface and increase for back surface as the γ doses is
increased.

because tax deductions decrease the tax liability indirectly. Tax credits cannot be used when a

After doing much research, there is no specific documentation that is required in order to substantiate

The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales Corruption in the Church Chaucer lived in a time dictated by religion and
religious ideas in which he uses The Canterbury Tales to show some of his views. Religion played a
significant role in fourteenth century England and also in Chaucer s writing. His ideas of the Church
are first seen in The Prologue, and he uses seven religious persons to show the influence of the
religion in his writing. Although many of his characters appear to portray part of the corruption in the
Church, he does give a small example in which one can conclude that he is speaking in praise. The
Friar, who lived off begging, appears to live a lowly existence, while Chaucer refers to the papacy in

Chaucer makes forceful insults in his character explication. The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/
As old and strict he tended to ignore (Chaucer 7.) A monk is supposed to have a strong authority in the
Church, but Chaucer explains that he breaks the written laws and precedents set by people recognized
as Saints and highly acclaimed people. The Monk is a lazy, disgusting man who lived a dishonest and
imprudent life. The Pardoner and Summoner appear together in The Prologue. They further illustrate
an example of Chaucer s awareness of a defiled Church. Chaucer provides humor to his description of
the Summoner in that he d allow just for a quart of wine /Any good lad to keep a concubine (Chaucer
20.) This means that a person who disobeys the Church without seeking repentance can easily bribe
the Summoner, in that he will overlook the situation. Chaucer writes about the Pardoner that by his
flatteries and prevarication/ Made monkey of the priest and congregation (Chaucer 22.) This is another
direct insult to the Church at the time. Although the Pardoner represents the lowly side of the Church,
Chaucer balances it out with a highly appraise of the Parson. He appears into the prologue before the
Pardoner and the Summoner, and he clearly is a perfect illustration of the Church, which should be
followed over the other corrupt religious men. Chaucer uses the Parson to show the Church s power

Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food,
as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking
water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas
(Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential
to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the
clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these
substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they
brought in. This ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad

Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves using
plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very long time
and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the ecosystems

for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants to change harmful
chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi timely manner, but it is expensive. Comparatively,

The Difference between American and German Thinking
The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a
scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal and
figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American
approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is planning
an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be 100 percent
error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very different in the two
countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever tend to respond with
firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone no. Germans like to
debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees with you they will be
sure that it is made know.
A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having
freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security. They
like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a person can be
fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great difference in
freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi propaganda would be legal
where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I

The second stage of the negotiation was to take the draft copy of the agreement letter to show my

Social workers need to develop a good observation skill for them to be able to do their work
effectively because communication is one of the key tool which social work use (BASW, 2014,
HCPC, 2016 and Healy, 2012). Therefore, having good observation skills is relevant in social work.
Healy (2012) suggested that communication could be verbal and non verbal methods of

Media Reflection Paper
Today the life revolves around media, it is on people s phones, media decorate their walls, and for
some media is their job. Since media is such an inescapable part of the modern landscape it is
significant that we as individuals understand how the media works and how it affects us. In this
course, the nature of the media has been unraveled to reveal the ways that it has impacted society and
how it has done this. This class has made me became more critical of the media in my life and now
even without thinking I recognize patterns, and in some cases toxic themes in the media I consume.
Looking back on this semester and what I have learned I can see that I have become more media
literate in many ways, primarily in the areas of awareness and analysis. I have become more aware of
the way media is constructed. Some things that have stood out to me since I have started this course is
for example the other day when I flew into the ST. Louis airport after Thanksgiving break one of the
monitors in baggage claim said that it was CLear Channel TV before this course I do not know what
clear channel was and I knew that the entertainment business was an oligopoly but I did not realize the
extent. Seeing this was a moment of realization, that what I read was real, this one company has its
hands in every pot. I have also noticed how much media means to people, I was speaking to one of my
friends and I mentioned that I thought marvel was better that DC and she became very upset at me. It
occurred to me that being a DC comics fan was a part of her identity, before I knew that people took
entertainment personally but it was not actively looking for it. I have increased my ability to analyze
the media I consume, now I am more aware of the way industries target audiences. One of the easiest
ways this can be seen is in commercials, advertisers make there for a specific audience, video game
commercials are a good example Game of Wart has a woman in its commercials who speaks in an
alluring voice and invites audiences to come join her. She is there for the male gaze, men are the
desired customers that companies look for, so she is there as a way of saying that this game will make
the player feel special and receive the

How Does Lgbt Culture Fall In Our Society Today And At
How does LGBT culture fall in our society today and at the period of pre colonial times? Before that
what is LGBT culture? LGBT culture or gay culture consisted of Lesbians, Bisexual, homosexuals,
and Transgender to name a few of them. One social issue about LGBT is that we don t even know
what to call them because there are allot of different representation on what kind of LGBT s are they.
In the Philippines we classify them as tomboy, bakla and etc. Another social issue is about legalizing
same sex marriage in the Philippines. Countries like the Netherlands, Colombia, and other countries
that legalize same sex marriage. Sure this is from opinions of other countries about legalizing this
issue that s the reason why some countries think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he realize that the woman that he was with was actually gay he murdered the transgender out of
hate. This incident about the LGBT s were reported killed in Asia was not the first and the definitely
not the last. The article said that 28 persons were killed because of their sexual identities in 2011.That
s why our government is implementing anti discrimination law in the Philippines.
LGBT s were new in our community actually they existed long before the Spaniards came and
colonize the Philippines. In the Pre colonialPhilippines there were reports that Gays where living in
that period of time. There was a term called binabae in that time period which means womanish
man,and they were also called bayoguin, bayok, agi ngin, asog, and bido. The bayoguins played a
huge part in the society in that period because they were classified as babaylans or priestess. All
though babaylans where generally for womens, they found that men in that period would crossdress to
act and look more like the other gender so that they could be a babaylan. Even a few of the deities in
that time were transgender like the deity of fertility of the fields and crops Lakapti and was the most
respected and worshiped. In that time bayoguins could go back from being strait men if they wishes to
marry the datu s daughter and fight alongside other warriors.
Same sex marriage wasn t allowed in the pre colonial times because the male
crossdresser/gendercrosser couldn t have kids.

elite soldier in the Israeli army, and come to America to follow his true dream to cut and style hair.
Little does the Zohan know what will happen while he is America, following his true passion.
Throughout the movie a rich investor tries to buy out all the Israeli s and Arab s stores so he can

The smaller group s cohesiveness is stronger when they are threatened. Coercion is the use of force in
order to get someone to do something. The use of coercion happens when the smaller group does not
want to do what the outside group or person wants them to do. Their cohesiveness is increased
because they are under an outside threat. The outside threat is the coercion that someone is threatening
them with. Since they are working together fighting against the threat of coercion it brings the group
closer and helps their cohesiveness become stronger. This idea of groups coming together and their
cohesiveness getting stronger is exemplified in the film You Don t Mess With the

Summary Of Bacon s Rebellion
Lauren Miller
CIS History 3
Common Assignment #1
10/26/15
Bacon s Rebellion
Nathanial Bacon was a young, bold, active, and powerful individual (Beverly). Bacon was born in
England, taught at Cambridge, and later moved to Virginia with his wife, Elizabeth, in 1974 (Tarter).
Bacon graduated from the University of Cambridge and studied the law. Elizabeth s father, the Sir
Edward Duke of Suffolk, opposed their marriage. Her disinheritance by her father contributed to
Bacon s decision to migrate to North America. When they moved they got two plantations paid for by
his father. Bacon owned the two plantations along the Jamestown northern frontier. By his social
position and financial means, Bacon was brought up in the governor s council in ... Show more

Berkeley saw Bacon s action as a direct challenge to his own authority. The governor didn t like his
choices, and now refused to grant him anything. However the council, fearing the awful consequences
of disrupting an unhappy individual who was ready armed and had the governor, council, and
assembly entirely in their power, told the governor to accept his request. With much hesitancy the
governor signed it, and put the power of war and peace into Bacon s hands. This was not a good
decision to make considering Bacon just came to the council and threatened them to grant his wishes.
He then immediately marched off, achieving his end, which was in effect power to acquire a trust of
the Indian trade for himself and his friends. The governor, having failed to raise an army against
Bacon to fight his men, had no choice but to flee to the Eastern shore. He then gathered enough
strength to return to Jamestown, where he proclaimed Bacon and his men. Berkley had called for new
elections to the Burgesses for better aid of the Native American problem. Bacon was not serving his
business in the House of Burgesses; instead he was at his plantation miles away. By then the governor
had a small party with him. He aided them with clothes, arms and ammunitions, in order to cross the
bay and oppose the rebel. Bacon feared that he could not fight against them then decided set fire to the
town to solve

Victorian Women s Role During The Victorian House
During the Victorian period, women had a very specific role to play in society. They had very little
influence on the public sphere, only men were to deal with business and political issues. Women were
restrained to the private sphere, and were supposed to take care of the house, and of their beloved. The
phrase the angel in the house was used to describe their duty. Obviously, this applies to women of a
certain rank, mostly those belonging to the middle class. Working class women soon had to leave
home and work in order to help feed their family. The novel genre was only emerging at the time, and
thus many women characters started to be portrayed by many different authors, many of which
described them as much more complex than the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women at that time were supposed to take good care of their family and of their house. They had to be
good, gentle, caring and motherly. Margaret does behave in that way, she takes care of her parents
when they all come to live in Milton in the way that every daughter is supposed to. However, she does
not only look after them, but she actually takes care of almost everything regarding their lives. In a
sense, she acts like her father should, but he is somehow too weak to do so. For instance, Margaret is
the one organising the moving from Helstone to Milton in the very beginning of the novel after her
father asked her to: Do what you think best. (p. 56). This could appear as quite a burdensome
responsibility for a young woman like Margaret, and many other women of her age would not have
been able to do it. This is even more evident thereafter in the story. Right after her mother has passed
away, Margaret does not have time to mourn, for she must already arrange the funeral and take care of
her brother and father: The father and brother depended upon her; while they were giving way to grief,
she must be working, planning, considering. (p. 302). Once again, this should be her father s role, and
yet, Margaret is carrying the burden of taking care of everything. This idea that Margaret takes care of
everything instead of her father is even more striking when we put her in contrast with another young
girl of her age, her cousin Edith who epitomises the ideal Victorian lady. Margaret and Edith grew up
together, yet their lives completely differ when Edith gets married to Captain Lennox. While Margaret
is a confident, nearly self sufficient woman who must take care of everything, Edith, once she gets
married, appears as a passive shallow young girl, relying on her husband and on her

  • 2. Persuasion By Jane Austen Jane Austen is perhaps the most popular and widely read English novelists, whose books have been adapted and parodied countless times. On that note, what is there that I can say which has not already been said regarding this major author. With this in mind, I will try explore her work in a manner that would do her justice. For my essay I will look to analyze Austen s heroines and the Thorpe s that seem to be present in her novels. The heroines of Austen s tales often come to enjoy a distinctive relationship with the man she eventually marries. This idea differs from novel to novel but the outcome regularly changes. Persuasion is one of Austen s last major novels and the foundations for my essay. Persuasion along with most of Austen s work focuses on marriage plots and happy ever after s. Austen s own social position in society was a daughter of a clergyman, placing her family comfortably in middle class English society. Her writing often reflects her views as she satirically criticizes certain gentry of society as prudent. Evidently this can be seen through her description of the vain Sir Walter Elliot, who is forced to leave their family home because of his ignorance and imprudent disregard for wealth. Anne Elliot is our protagonist and heroine of the novel. She has a satirical sense of humour and is very attentive. Although she may not be one of Austen s most attractive heroines, once her better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What any of her famed followers could surely gather from the novels in her collection is that the concept of freedom and selfishness is often associated with the unsympathetic characters. Emma for instance has been doing just what she liked for most of her existence (1). These traits could also be adapted to many other characters in the novel, but to emphasize on one individual disdainfully would be Elizabeth Elliot, Anne s older sister. She is depicted in a very Emma like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Love Boat Show Analysis Love Boat Week 6 Presentation Script By Lucas da Paz This presentation draws to a greater extent on the problem of jurisdiction, which particular crimes primarily happen on cruise ships as well as analysing The Love Boat TV series to draw on the hidden meanings behind the show and themes that are conveyed. The Love Boat The Love Boat show is about the characters dealing with their problems like getting a lack of love as described by Cathy Schwichtenberg in her readings. It is about the characters going on a love boat journey whilst encountering problems such as finding the wrong lover based off mistaken identities (Schwichtenberg,1984). Love is a complex, abstract relation between two people (Schwitchenberg,1984).However, in the Love Boat tv series, love is objectified and can be bought , it is another commodity when linked with another object a boat with the ultimate reward of love being exchanged with money for a cruise, creating the false pretence and idea that love can be bought (Schwichtenberg,1984). • 4. Gay marriage persuasive essay Gay Marriage in the United States The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal across the United States. Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage, then the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of the United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abuse in Foster Care Essay About two thirds of children admitted to public care have experienced abuse and neglect, and many have potentially been exposed to domestic violence, parental mental illness and substance abuse (Dregan and Gulliford). These children are being placed into foster care so that they can get away from home abuse, not so they can move closer towards it. The foster children s varied outcomes of what their adult lives are is because of the different experiences they grew up with in their foster homes. Foster children are placed in foster homes because of their parents participating in physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological abuse, and/or neglect towards their children; however, the parents of the foster children are affected by their children being put into foster homes and therefore has complex feelings towards the program. Parents usually put up a defensive shield when people tell them how to raise their child, and they think the foster care program is supposedly raising their children how they should raise them and not how they currently are raising them. • 7. Comparison Of Political Parties America is in the midst of tunnel vision With all the political parties in the mix today it can be confusing to an average citizen who works daily to feed the family and pay the bills. You have Democrats and Republicans today that used to be light years apart and today they are shadows of one another. Many feel the Libertarian and Independent parties are not strong enough to carry the load in government. There are words such as conservative, socialist, progressive and liberal that are thrown about like the wind. For example their are similarities to the progressive party and the socialist party. They want the same goal just in a different way. Socialism is an economic system where the government runs and controls the production resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conservatives are generally and not always part of the republican party. These parties have changed so much since their inception. And with all the negative feelings of each party towards one another we are giving rise to the Roman Empire Theory where America is seen in similarities to the old Roman Empire that collapsed upon itself. Here are some examples of the connections: First, the huge cost of elections today have spiralled out of control costing billions of dollars. This is creating the appearance that our leaders are puppets of specail interest groups. In the Roman Empire, towards the end the elections were costing staggering amounts and causing terrible results. Thus, weakening the system. Second, in the late Roman Empire the road to wealth was seen as being in the political arena. The Roman leaders would accumulate great amounts of personal wealth. Today the very same thing is happening across America with those who want to become very wealthy get into the politics and seek a seat either in Congress or the Presidency. Third, as the Roman Empire spiralled down there were wars and a national state of security arose. The same can be said for America as in the last century we have had several wars and now the security of the nation is being challenged. Fourth, during the last years of the Roman Empire the leaders were given wealth from other nations to buy their influence to help them in return. The same is happening in America today as foreign powers send huge sums of money to our various leaders to gain their favor. Fifth, the Romans in their last years made huge profits from their business in foreign countries. In America today, many large corporations have there manufacturing plants in other nations and reaping higher dividends. And Lastly, in the last days of the Roman Empire the middle class was ... • 8. Living A Life Of Poverty All over the world, many have gone through the struggle of poverty. You don t have to be homeless to struggle more than the next person, it could be just not having lights on in your home, past due rent, or maybe not having enough or anything at all to eat. Many, feel like because they go through similar things that they will never accomplish anything due to them not having the resources. Others around you can be very doubtful of you too, which could make you believe even more that you weren t meant to go further in life. Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Small s song Juicy, released in 1994 from his Ready to Die album, selling over 607,000 copies is a great example of living a life of poverty. Biggie tells of his story through song, where he relates of doubtful people and his struggle. This song is about a young black male who went from poverty to living his version of the American dream based on textual analysis of the lyrics. Biggie makes it known throughout his entire song that he isn t ashamed of how he grew up before wealth. I think that his main point was to let people know that he will never forget where he came from and that it s the lessons he learned during his childhood/teen years, that undisguisedly got him to where he is now. • 9. Critique Of Characters In Cobalt Blue By Sachin Kundalkar I put down Sachin Kundalkar s Cobalt Blue a couple of days ago and the characters continue to haunt me. Kundalkar has so vividly painted them into my mind that they seem to have made a home for themselves in there. Over the next couple of days, I have found myself reaching out for the book, re reading paragraphs at random and with every read I feel like I have opened a whole new world. I have been musing at the simplicity and the beauty of the story, and I have concluded that no review could ever do justice to the gem that is this work. Cobalt Blue was originally written and published in Marathi by Sachin Kundalkar when he was only 22 years old (his age is of no importance, until you put down the book and realise that someone wrote a book so profound and meaningful when he was at the same age as you). For almost ten years the book remained a treasure to only those who spoke Marathi, till Jerry Pinto, at Shanta Gokhale s request translated it into English. A lot is lost in translation, a fact that is acknowledged by Pinto in his afterword. However, Pinto took extra care to retain the essence of the novel, which is something that those who are not fluent in Marathi would appreciate. Teresa Lavender Fagan, translator, says, A translator must absorb the essence of a work, feel the author s soul and do what she can to minimize what must necessarily be lost. My veteran bow hunters had started the season strong, turning down shots at younger deer in hopes of tagging one of several mature bucks that had been out in full view that first evening. All creatures enjoyed the return of the much needed rain including the normally nocturnal older deer. A shot taken by a new archer flew harmlessly over the back of a mid 150 s whitetail that would have ruined her for life. Good thing she missed. • 22. A Brief Note On Seismic Hazard Analysis On The Event Of A... Summary of proposed research Seismic hazard analysis is an important tool in mitigating risks in the event of a disastrous seismic event like an earthquake. This can be done by studying the behaviour of the soil in locations that are within seismically active regions using several geophysical methods. This project employs the use the cost effective microtremor method in studying the site response in Kathmandu, Nepal, following the April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha. Analysis of the field data will yield information that could be used by the Government and people of Kathmandu, Nepal, in reviewing their building construction codes and other policies to minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake. This is very important considering the location of Kathmandu which is within the seismically active Himalayas. Statement of the problem Kathmandu lies within the tectonically active Himalayan mountain range, which is a continental continental convergent boundary. Kathmandu is located in an approximately 500 m deep sedimentary basin, which is likely to amplify earthquake shaking (Paudyal et al, 2012). More than 9000 people were killed and about 22000 injured in Nepal during the magnitude 7.8 Gorkha earthquake on April 25, 2015, and the M 7.3 aftershock on May 12, 2015, (Nepal National Planning Commission, 2015). War truly does bring out the worst of in the people involved, because in war the objective is to kill or capture enough of the opposing sides soldiers to show that your side is superior. Both sides will take any measures necessary to win, a few examples of this being Mustard gas, Ricin, Agent Orange, and Sarin . When guns and other weapons will not cut it, that s when in the mind of the governments that chemical warfare became necessary . Since these four chemicals and many more have been used throughout history, the Chemical Warfare Convention banned all forms of chemical weapons, due to the lasting effects of the chemicals on both nations and individuals of those nations. The way the CWC defines a chemical weapon is a toxic chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its chemical action. A Chemical Weapon according to Joe Carter of Erlc.com , is a toxic chemical contained in a delivery system, such as a bomb or a shell . The first chemical weapon ever used was Chlorine. This toxic gas was first used at the Second Battle of Ypres on April 22, 1915. Toxic gases were looked down upon and considered inhumane before World War one. Mental Health Problems And Violence Among Criminal Offenders Assessment 1 The main topic of study is to determine whether there is a correlation between mental health problems and violence among criminal offenders. The purpose of the study conducted by (Felson, Silver and Vaneseltine) was to examine whether criminal offenders with mental health problems were more likely to commit violent crimes in comparison to offenders without mental health problems. (p 405). There are elements which will be critiqued and analysed further. The text is organised very clearly with sub headings for different elements which were researched by the authors. One of the key issues is the generalisation of the data produced. Although there were approximately 17,000 participants, all of the participants were criminal offenders, who had not been committed to a psychiatric institution; therefore it is difficult to determine whether there is any connection with individuals with mental health problems and the violence committed by them. There are researchers who will agree with the hypothesis put forward in this journal article however there are researchers who claim that there is not strong enough evidence to suggest whether or not the hypothesis can be held true. Moreover, the important elements have been excluded from this study such as, alcohol and drug use. In addition, the method used had variables which could not be controlled. In the instance of the participants, it is quite common for the participants of the study to lie about whether or not they suffer from mental health problems. This may be due to the participants being aware of how they may be perceived by society and the general public. The data provided by the participants can be affected by social desirability, ... • 25. The Debate Over Gay Marriage Although gay marriage has been legalized in all of the United States, the idea is still heavily debated. Richard Fitzgibbons, one of the various authors of the book Homosexuality: Opposing Viewpoints (Homosexuality is Caused by Psychological Trauma, p.36) believe that in order to get rid of pain, a person can be overcome by strong, erotic desires and actions, however, this does not entirely make sense. If a man were to be sexaully assaulted by another man, they would, more than likely remain straight, considering they were hurt by someone of the same sex. Religion Several people use religion as an argument against homosexuality, such as Matt Slick, writer of the article What does the Bible say about homosexuality?. Matt uses the bible as a source quoting scriptural citations, such as in Leviticus 18:22, where it says: You should not lay with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. This, however, only makes a strong argument in the case of a person who actually believes there is a God. Also, in Leviticus chapter 19, verse 27, the bible clearly says that one should not shave the hairs at the sides of their head, which basically means that haircuts were also a sin. The film hones in on the historical march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965 which King organized as a Civil Rights protest.1 When initially watching the film, it seems as though Selma does an appreciable job of depicting the challenges in which African Americans endured while advocating for their rights, particularly the right to vote. First of all, I d recognize that when field C was sold to Pamphilius it should have been established what benefits the field had. However, this data is not given to me. Servitude is an interest disconnected from the proprietorship of an inferior property, being the smaller one the servient estate or inferior and the superior one the dominant estate (which would be field A, the one with the river flow) leaving field C to be the inferior estate in this case. The dominant estate has the Ius in re which is the right in property in common law. This means that the estate has either jus in re propria, the right to use the land in any way the owner likes to within legal parameters; or jus in re aliena which includes security interests for inferior estates. Again, we lack the information on which type of right Catullus would have in this case. However, I have to hand it to President Ronald Wilson Reagan, because the time he was in office he really pumped the country up, and did a tremendous job running it as well as helping in every way he could. Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Reagan passed away June 5, 2004, and was buried in Simi Valley, California. They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability ... • 43. Media Reflection Paper Today the life revolves around media, it is on people s phones, media decorate their walls, and for some media is their job. Since media is such an inescapable part of the modern landscape it is significant that we as individuals understand how the media works and how it affects us. In this course, the nature of the media has been unraveled to reveal the ways that it has impacted society and how it has done this. This class has made me became more critical of the media in my life and now even without thinking I recognize patterns, and in some cases toxic themes in the media I consume. Looking back on this semester and what I have learned I can see that I have become more media literate in many ways, primarily in the areas of awareness and analysis. I have become more aware of the way media is constructed. Some things that have stood out to me since I have started this course is for example the other day when I flew into the ST. Louis airport after Thanksgiving break one of the monitors in baggage claim said that it was CLear Channel TV before this course I do not know what clear channel was and I knew that the entertainment business was an oligopoly but I did not realize the extent. Seeing this was a moment of realization, that what I read was real, this one company has its hands in every pot. I have also noticed how much media means to people, I was speaking to one of my friends and I mentioned that I thought marvel was better that DC and she became very upset at me. It occurred to me that being a DC comics fan was a part of her identity, before I knew that people took entertainment personally but it was not actively looking for it. I have increased my ability to analyze the media I consume, now I am more aware of the way industries target audiences. One of the easiest ways this can be seen is in commercials, advertisers make there for a specific audience, video game commercials are a good example Game of Wart has a woman in its commercials who speaks in an alluring voice and invites audiences to come join her. She is there for the male gaze, men are the desired customers that companies look for, so she is there as a way of saying that this game will make the player feel special and receive the ... • 48. Summary Of Bacon s Rebellion Lauren Miller CIS History 3 Common Assignment #1 10/26/15 Bacon s Rebellion Nathanial Bacon was a young, bold, active, and powerful individual (Beverly). Bacon was born in England, taught at Cambridge, and later moved to Virginia with his wife, Elizabeth, in 1974 (Tarter). Bacon graduated from the University of Cambridge and studied the law. Elizabeth s father, the Sir Edward Duke of Suffolk, opposed their marriage. Her disinheritance by her father contributed to Bacon s decision to migrate to North America. When they moved they got two plantations paid for by his father. Bacon owned the two plantations along the Jamestown northern frontier. By his social position and financial means, Bacon was brought up in the governor s council in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berkeley saw Bacon s action as a direct challenge to his own authority. The governor didn t like his choices, and now refused to grant him anything. However the council, fearing the awful consequences of disrupting an unhappy individual who was ready armed and had the governor, council, and assembly entirely in their power, told the governor to accept his request. With much hesitancy the governor signed it, and put the power of war and peace into Bacon s hands. This was not a good decision to make considering Bacon just came to the council and threatened them to grant his wishes. He then immediately marched off, achieving his end, which was in effect power to acquire a trust of the Indian trade for himself and his friends. The governor, having failed to raise an army against Bacon to fight his men, had no choice but to flee to the Eastern shore. He then gathered enough strength to return to Jamestown, where he proclaimed Bacon and his men. Berkley had called for new elections to the Burgesses for better aid of the Native American problem. Bacon was not serving his business in the House of Burgesses; instead he was at his plantation miles away. By then the governor had a small party with him. He aided them with clothes, arms and ammunitions, in order to cross the bay and oppose the rebel. Bacon feared that he could not fight against them then decided set fire to the town to solve ... • 49. Victorian Women s Role During The Victorian House During the Victorian period, women had a very specific role to play in society. They had very little influence on the public sphere, only men were to deal with business and political issues. Women were restrained to the private sphere, and were supposed to take care of the house, and of their beloved. The phrase the angel in the house was used to describe their duty. Obviously, this applies to women of a certain rank, mostly those belonging to the middle class. Working class women soon had to leave home and work in order to help feed their family. The novel genre was only emerging at the time, and thus many women characters started to be portrayed by many different authors, many of which described them as much more complex than the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women at that time were supposed to take good care of their family and of their house. They had to be good, gentle, caring and motherly. Margaret does behave in that way, she takes care of her parents when they all come to live in Milton in the way that every daughter is supposed to. However, she does not only look after them, but she actually takes care of almost everything regarding their lives. In a sense, she acts like her father should, but he is somehow too weak to do so. For instance, Margaret is the one organising the moving from Helstone to Milton in the very beginning of the novel after her father asked her to: Do what you think best. (p. 56). This could appear as quite a burdensome responsibility for a young woman like Margaret, and many other women of her age would not have been able to do it. This is even more evident thereafter in the story. Right after her mother has passed away, Margaret does not have time to mourn, for she must already arrange the funeral and take care of her brother and father: The father and brother depended upon her; while they were giving way to grief, she must be working, planning, considering. (p. 302). Once again, this should be her father s role, and yet, Margaret is carrying the burden of taking care of everything. This idea that Margaret takes care of everything instead of her father is even more striking when we put her in contrast with another young girl of her age, her cousin Edith who epitomises the ideal Victorian lady. Margaret and Edith grew up together, yet their lives completely differ when Edith gets married to Captain Lennox. While Margaret is a confident, nearly self sufficient woman who must take care of everything, Edith, once she gets married, appears as a passive shallow young girl, relying on her husband and on her ...
