The Recession Of The Great Recession
In 2007, the United States economy experienced a financial crisis known as the Great Recession,
which affected much of the world. It officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009 and all
began with the bursting of an 8 trillion dollar housing bubble. A volatile mixture of financial market
chaos triggered by the housing bubble and low consumer spending left millions of Americans
wondering about their economic fate, the fate of their neighbors, and the fate of the nation.
The Great Recession, from 2007 2009, is the greatest economic downturn since the Great
Depression, from 1929 1939. In spite of its currency, much of the world doesn t know what led up
to the Great Recession, let alone what caused it. This video simplifies the housing crisis and breaks
down the key factors that attributed to the downfall of the financial market. While the recession
only lasted two years, many are still feeling its effects.

Depression vs Recession
The 2008 financial crisis was the worst economic disaster the world had seen since the Great
Depression of 1929. In spite of efforts made by the Federal Reserve and Treasury department to
prevent such a tragic event from occurring, a large portion of the US banking system was
fraudulent. The banks failure took a toll on more than just the financial system it hurt people.
People experienced layoffs, lost pensions, lost retirement funds,

The effective decision system of corporate strategic planning must start with a strong
organization. Enterprises in determining the strategic planning system, the corresponding
processes must be designed so that the audit in the enterprise between various departments, as
well as the correlation between their activities and planning, influence each other and mutual
dependence. Generally speaking, due to the historical development of each enterprise, decision
making habits, thinking mode of different leaders, led to its approach in formulating strategic
planning system is also different. The strategic planning system of the scientific program should
be determined based on the each company s actual situation. Enterprise brand, family brand

Just Mercy Book Report
As a young child I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow
up. While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of deep reflection I found that
I knew two truths about myself: I loved education, and I gained fulfillment through helping others.
Developing and learning in the course of my four years at Loyola University Chicago, I discovered a
passion to pursue a career in higher education.
The early years in my life were characterized by my childhood community in the western suburbs of
Chicago. My hometown was very sheltered with little diversity. Upon graduation from high school,
I knew I wanted to join a community where I would be challenged, supported, and most
importantly, be with those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going to college and being in a university setting was the first time my perspectives and ideas
were broadened. I was able to see the world outside my small suburb, and learned harsh realities,
which I was sheltered from my whole life. Social justice advocate, Bryan Stevenson, expounds
the idea of getting proximate to issues that one cares about. For me, getting proximate was
accomplished by being on a university campus, and learning from the ideas of others, as well as
new, first hand experiences. As I was supported and encouraged in my growth at Loyola, I want to
provide the same assistance for other students. Through my years I have excelled at organization
and coordination, skills that I hope to apply in order to help students in a university setting. More
so, I want to help support students who enter college, those who wish to expand their knowledge,
viewpoints, and minds. Higher education would offer me a unique opportunity where I would be
able to support students in their growth as a person, while offering encouragement and assistance to
students throughout their college

Coronary Artery Disease Research Paper
Abstract
The heart is composed of four chambers, the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricles.
This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our
bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important
nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly
tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the
ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly
function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. The coronary arteries
are in charge of distributing adequate amounts of oxygen to the heart2. The heart s nodes help the
heart function with electrical impulses which allow the heart to contract. These are also known as
the pacemakers of the heart. Failure to properly function can result in a heart attack.

Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins
With every end, there is a beginning. When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in
nature where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us,
readers, to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery
where spring has arrived and everything that happens during this seasonis happening right in front
of us. The speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference
between the seasons and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in
almost all aspects as he describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind,
soul, and body is refreshed with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him,
he conceptualizes the natural world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual
awakening. Here is the interpretation and analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect
the grammar and meaning of its sentences:
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of
Spring. With the dash after the word spring, it means that the speaker is trying to let the readers
believe the first statement that nothing is so beautiful as Spring. The weeds in wheels in the
second line may mean, that, weeds have grown in wheels or maybe the way the weeds

Classical Dance Research Paper
As a classical dancer, the word dance has meant many different things to me. I grew up as an
artist and started ballet at a late age. After I finished training I danced with multiple companies
across the US. My experience on stage, and as a dancer has given me a unique view on dance and
the dancecommunity. Because of this I do not think a single definition of dance is appropriate.
Instead, classical dance is better described as a combination of, art, technique, performance, and
community. Before I began formal training in classical dance I was performing vocalist and actor.
As a performing artist, I had already gained a deep appreciation for dance, leading me to take a
balletclass. When I first began, ballet was just an extension of my performing resume, something I
did only to so I would be a more castable actor. Nevertheless, I soon after I began dancing it
became my focus and I began the normal daily training schedule of Pre Professional student.

Chesapeake Colonies Differences
The English Civil War created economic disputes and religious turmoil which forced a large
number of humans to acknowledge the New World as a source of protection from the conflict
within their home country. Currently, many of the early colonists fled to geographical areas that
were constructed by a culture of the first colonists. Due to extended motivations for voyaging the
New World, isolating individual reasons for the two contrasting Chesapeake and New English
cultures was very challenging. The settled land shaped the development of the contrasting cultures
because of the different environments encountered by the colonists. Nonetheless, while the New
Englandand Chesapeake colonies established identical governments, the economies and cultures
evolved to fit their religion.
Both settlements legislatures were isolated to a specific governor and assembly of the people. ...

An example would be the Puritan and Irish ideas of life in New England connected within a single
civilization. Also, the Anglicans, Quakers and aristocrats of the Chesapeake merged their routines
together. Evidently, both colonies depict similarities and differences which advise religion as the
main reason behind the diversity.
The main difference was the religion of both areas. The British colonies in New England were
very religious based, and claimed to believe in God more than other colonists. Religion was
family based and with extreme devotion. In contrast, religion was less relentless in the
Chesapeake. The religious emphasis was small, and numerous people did not participate within
the Church. Both colonies practiced religion at their own pace and based it upon their society at
their own rate. The New England colonies had developed into a religion and family based society
comprised of mostly middle class

Early Twentieth Century Music Analysis
The early twentieth century was filled with violence and progress. However, despite all that was
taking place, the arts still had room to evolve. In the arts, as in other aspects of life, there was an
increased emphasis on pluralism and diversity. In the twentieth century, there were revolts spanning
all areas; but in this essay, I will focus on the musical aspects of them. Composers drew inspiration
from an enormous variety of sources, including folk and popular music; the music of Asia, Africa,
and Latin America; and European art music from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century.
During the twentieth century, differences among styles were so great that it seems as though
composers used different musical languages, not merely different... Show more content on

It was begun by Claude Debussy in reaction to the dramatic and dynamic emotionalism of
romantic music. Impressionist music is not something that can be shown to the audience. It is
something for the audience to listen to and create their own particular atmosphere. For example,
Debussy s Voiles blur harmony with depictions of outdoor scenes or, more generally, with
establishing correspondences between the aural and the visual. Debussy stressed tone color,
atmosphere, and fluidity; elements that are essential to impressionism. Neoclassicism is a trend
in which composers sought to return to aesthetic precepts associated with the broadly defined
concept of classicism , namely order, balance, clarity, economy, and emotional restraint.
Surprisingly, neoclassicism music reached back to the Classical era for some of its inspiration.
Igor Stravinsky s Pulcinella is a famous neoclassicism work that encompassed the essence of the
previous era. Stravinsky s neoclassical works emphasize restraint, balance, and wit, and are far
removed from the violence of The Rite of

If freedom is short of weapons, we must compensate with willpower (Hitler 5). During the 1930
s in the light of Hitler s Nazi Germens, they decided to invade all the Jewish countries. People
were terrorized, forced to leave their homes and either go to concentration camps or find hiding
spots. This war went on for many years. One of the most famous hiding spots of all though, which
housed eight people was called The Secret Annex . This is where the Frank and the Van Pels

Mythological Norms By Audre Lorde
The concept of mythical norm was introduced by a feminist writer, Audre Lorde, who critically
analyzed the dominant power mechanism in society that operates through a deeply ingrained idea
of a normalized and naturalized male identity. This normative identity is both an image and ideal
that stands out as a symbol of societal norms and privileges that are institutionalized in the law.
More specifically, Lorde wrote, Somewhere, on the edge of consciousness, there is what I call a
mythical norm, which each of us within our hearts knows that is not me. ... [T]his norm is usually
defined as white, thin, male, young, heterosexual, Christian and financially secure. It is with this
mythical norm that the trappings of power reside within this society. (as cited in Perry, 2011, p. 57)
Even though Lorde positions this identity norm at the edge of consciousness, the norm seems to be
at the center of the dominant societal myths about privilege and its discourses of law. As the
particular male centric vision of power, the mythical norm functions as a regulating and governing
social site and system of privileges through which unearned advantages are naturally attributed to all
members of the identity norm without their own efforts and contributions (Perry, 2011, p. 57).
Consequently, this normative category of men receives some of the main social, political and
economic benefits by the virtue of their belonging to the aforementioned identity group.

Upon further review, it appears that what I thought was a problem is more of an issue. As well
as I needed to add a problem to my previous essay, so I would like to list a problem I have with
procrastination. I seem to be dealing with increased instances where I have waited to the last

outweigh the cons by a long shot. It is never a good ideato waste time and then rush through just to

Psychotherapy Portrayal Therapy
INTRODUCTION Kadushin (1969) first suggested that the general public s perceptions of
psychotherapy were based on popular culture such as movies and television. Since that time,
various authors have agreed with this general position. For example, Hyler (1988) argues that it is
difficult to ignore the potential influence films have on the public s views about therapists when he
states: It is important for [psychotherapists] to be aware of how their profession is depicted in
films, since this is often how our patients, and their families, form their image of us. In many
instances awareness of these images may help us understand the resistance of patients and/or their

Domino (1983) assessed the impact of the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest on student s
attitudes toward mental illness and its treatment. The results showed that those who viewed the
film had a significantly less positive attitude of mental illness than those who did not. He even
found that a documentary, which was thought to balance the negative impact of the film, had no
effect. Other studies do not support the idea that media portrayals impact those who view them.
For example, Sancho Aldridge and Gunter (1994) investigated the impact of a British television
comedy about psychiatrists on individuals perception of psychiatrists and found that there was no
evidence this 16 television series led to misconceptions or stereotypical views of psychiatry as a
profession. Hodson (2001) argues that whereas television depictions of therapists are often

overly biased nature of these portrayals. It seems reasonable to assume that films can capture the

Archaeologists can t just possess any Native American material on their own for research

past is connected to present. Rebecca Tsosie, a law professor from the Arizona State University

histories and ongoing ceremonial practices and beliefs. (66). The native people feel that they re
obligated to take care of their past, they have to honor their ancestors no matter how long ago
they have passed away. They believe that they should have the right to stop any behaviors that
might desecrate their ancestors. It is very understandable that one might not appreciate someone

ABSTRACT
Corporate social responsibility is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental
concerns in their business activities and in interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis.
In this global context, voluntary social and environmental practices of business, going beyond
companies existing legal obligations, can play a major role in filling the governance gap in an
innovative way. The sector is characterized by controls across the entire value chain of sugar
production and sale, which not only hampers its efficiency but also exacerbates the cyclicality in
sugar and sugarcane production. The growth and development in sugar sector in the country in
general and in the state of Uttar Pradesh in particular has multiple linkages with social, economic
and environmental issues. The purpose of this study is to conduct a triple bottom line assessment of
sugarcane value chain and suggest alternatives that could improve the current sustainable practices
of CSR across various stakeholders.

National Anthem Vs Canada
The national anthem is a very important part of a country, it talks about the country itself, every
country has a national anthem, but not one is alike. One may be shorter one may be longer,
different beats. There is a difference between the United States national anthem and Canadas
national anthem. And I plan on telling you how, I also plan on telling you how they are alike.
United States The star spangled banner was originally written as a poem by Francis Scott Key, on
September 13th, 1814. He wrote the poem after he witnessed the attack at fort McHenry by the
British ships. Francis was inspired by the American flag, and how it flew over the place after their
victory. When the star spangled banner was written it was set to tune to the British song which was

Cadia Holdings Pty Ltd v State of New South Wales (2010) 242 CLR 195
Word Count: 1,496
Introduction Factual Background
Cadia Holdings Pty Ltd and Newcrest Operations Ltd (NOL) owned land in New South Wales,
granted to them by the State of New South Wales under the Mining Act 1992 (NSW). From July
1998 to March 2008, Cadia conducted mining operations in which it recovered minerals including
copper and gold, and paid royalties to the Minister pursuant to the Mining Act 1992 (NSW). The
Minister referred to the Case of Mines[1], claiming that the mine owned by Cadia was a royal
mine containing gold that belonged to the Crown prerogative, and as a consequence the copper was
also the property of the Crown. Cadia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That precedent was set back in 1568 when Thomas Percy, the 7th Earl of Northumberland, was
taken to court by Elizabeth, the Queen of England. The Queen needed gold and silver to prepare
for the long expected conflict with Spain. A jury of Percy s peers found that the gold on his land
wasn t really his. In The Case of Mines[8] , the jury concluded, that by the law of all mines of
gold and silver within the realm, whether they be in the lands of the Queen, or of subjects, belong
to the Queen by prerogative, with liberty to dig and carry away the ores thereof, and with other
such incidents thereto as are necessary to be used for the getting of the ore. [9] Under pressured
circumstances, it proves that whether it s a monarch, a Parliament, or a Congress, the State is
always in pursuit of money with which to make war. Not much has changed.
The obiter dicta statement made by Kay LJ in the case of Attorney General v Morgan[10] where
the value of gold and copper in a mine were nearly the same benefit of the doubt should be given
to the owner of the mine. [11] If this contention is persuasive and accepted by the Court, then the
outcome of the decision would have been different. The value of the gold extracted greatly exceeds
the value of the copper despite the fact that the copper has a higher quantity.
However, the Court has correctly applied the legislation, namely section 3 of the Royal Mines Act
1688 (Imp). Section 3

Romeo And Juliet Who s To Blame
Everyone has someone they blame for something that happens, who is the real one to blame for
this fault? Most people blame the wrong people. But in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet the
blame lies with the family feud because it creates unnecessary conflicts. Some may say that
Balthasar holds the most blame for Romeo and Juliet s deaths. After all, Balthasar is the one who
tells Romeo Juliet is dead. This causes Romeo s downward spiral, which ultimately results in
Romeo s death. When she discovers Romeo s death, Juliet stabs herself. While this may be true,
the family feud holds the most blame for the outcome of the play. The fights that are alluded to by

Nuclear War And The Cold War Essay
The vast majority of the American public know the Cold War as a period of political and state
tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This era is often associated with the advancement
of scientific research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world
superpowers, especially through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual
politics of the Cold War, Joseph Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago,
argues in his novel, The Theater of Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform
for the U.S. security state to transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through
multiple government operations during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as
an undeniable threat to the American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear
fear. Masco believes that the current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a
continuation of the effects of the Cold War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco
argues that the nuclear projects during the Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth
science research. He feels that through the increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War
nuclear projects were linked to environmental concerns. Through these examples, Masco
demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced the U.S. cultural understanding of
nuclear threats. Masco argues that the psychological efforts during the decades

Owen Mclean Research Paper
Above all else, people are defined by their essential identity, an identity which for Owen McLean
revolves around four qualities: curiosity, creativity, introspection, and innovation. Forming the
backbone for Owen s decisions, these qualities shine through in his widespread hobbies, creative
interests, extracurriculars, and contributions to the community. Through these interests, his most
admirable moments emerge and his personality unfolds. Owen s natural curiosity often seems to

instance, he has an affinity for style and designer fashion but also expresses interest for hands on
work. He presented his senior project, a 1976 Camaro built by him and his father in their family

the tip of the iceberg, as Owen seeks to involve himself in as many disciplines as he finds

stating, We support the legal reclassification of marijuana to allow its availability in the medical
treatment of serious illnesses. We oppose the harassment and prosecution of patients, providers,
and physicians who respectively use, provide, or recommend marijuana for the medical treatment

Anticlea In The Odyssey
Death frequents classical literature. The ancients did not like to sugarcoat things; they knew death
was a part of life and accepted that fact. Often, they tried to explain this natural occurrence
through myths. Persephone dies with the coming of the frost, much like the flowers of spring.
Dionysus is ripped to pieces in the winter, just like how grapevines wither and perish. Heroes die,
too, and some more than once. Orpheus visits the underworld to get his beloved Eurydice back,
and fails drastically. Aeneas and the Sibyl descend with a golden bough and talk with his father.
Even the sagacious and silver tongued Odysseus ventured down there, and saw three very important
ghosts. Furthermore, Odysseus reacted to the ghosts of Anticlea, Elpenor, and Tiresias in the Land

To start with, Odysseus s response to meeting all the ghosts were alike, one example being his
reaction to Anticlea in the Land of the Dead being akin to his reaction to Elpenor, as he was
doleful for both of them. In, Seeing this ghost I grieved, but held her off, through pang on pang of
tears, (Homer s The Odyssey, lines 617 618) it is clear Odysseus is inconsolable over his mother s
death. He also is in anguish over Elpenor s demise, as Odysseus and his company did not bury the
young man s corpse, nor had time to properly mourn him. In this, the shrewd King of Ithaca s
reaction to finding Anticlea, his dear mother, and Elpenor, a stripling gone before his time, in
the Land of the Dead are alike. Also, his reaction to Elpenor and Tiresias were akin to each other,
this is because he expected both of them. This is apparent in, Elpenor, of our company, who lay
unburied still on the wide earth as we had left him, (Homer s The Odyssey, lines 578 580) as
Odysseus regrets not having a proper funeral for him before leaving Aeaea, and clearly

Descriptive Essay About Having A Dog
At the young age of 14, I fell in love for the first time. Although not ideal, he was white, covered
with brown spots and innocent eyes; a young Chihuahua. Max and I came into each other s lives
on October 20, 2013, when my older brother told me that a dog was coming home soon.
Although I was afraid of dogs, having previously been bit by one, I was oddly excited, and kept
glancing at my phone and at the window for the arrival of the new member to our family. Once the
duo arrived, my whole life would change. As my brother placed the small creature down, he came
running towards me with his small wagging tale and innocent eyes. Once he began to lick my feet
I knew I was in love. Our family settled on the name Max, but I called him Marco, and from then
on I would treat Marco as if he was my true blood brother. This one lone puppy, taught me
responsibility, compassion, and grief for others, as no other person has ever made me feel.
Dogs are known for their gentle souls and friendliness, but they also teach humans unexpected
lessons; such is the same for Marco and my family. Having a dog is no easy task, from the
beginning Max created the label of being a handful. When my cousin first picked him up, he began
to urinate on her which generated a lot of laughter and disgust at the same time. I was tasked with a
lot of chores such as cleaning him, feeding him, and taking him for walks around the neighborhood.
Bathing Max and wetting a cat both produced the same results: water

If a teen contracts an STD, they will have to make multiple changes in their life if what disease
they get does not leave them bed ridden in a hospital. The hardest thing for teenagers to
understand is that if they end up contracting an STD, not only are their parents going to be
disappointed, but they will most likely have social problems in school or in public in general.
Most teenagers would not necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD
because they would be afraid to somehow get it too. A teen that ended up with an STD would
most likely lose a lot in not all of their friends. An STD is just a giant social burden. Just under
half of the teens in the U.S. do not see themselves at risk for contracting an STD (Henry J.
Kaiser...). According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, four million teens get an STD
every year in the U.S. This means that four millions teens have their social lives destroyed each
year. According to John D. Hartigan in his article Distributing Condoms in Schools Encourages
Teen Sex, he states that condoms are being distributed in schools. This basically enables and
encourages teenagers to have sex; it is like telling them that it is okay when it really is not.
Hartigan also states that teens are not responsible enough to use condoms correctly. Some teens do
not know how to use or cannot obtain a condom so they decide not to use one at all (The Facts of

The Nature Of The Good Life
Philosophers have been thinking about the nature of the good life since ancient times. The good
life was a central topic during the ancient period of philosophy. Many people say that the good life
is living a prosperous life full of happiness. There are many different ideologies of the good life and
each philosopher has their own values and beliefs. I decided to pick one of the most well known
philosophers, Karl Marx. Karl Marx s philosophy is by far one of the most looked at. He called
capitalism the dictatorship of the upper class. , saying that it was run by the wealthy class solely to
make profit and maximize their own benefits. The end product and goal of capitalism was simply
economic gain. In this philosophy there has to be organized production, which includes the means
of production, such as factories, facilities, machines, and raw materials. Throughout this paper I
will describe certain aspects of Karl Marx s philosophy mainly focusing on why capitalism is not
the way to road to the good life. A good example of this can be looked at by recognizing the class
struggle between bourgeoisie and proletariat, otherwise known as the upper and lower class.
The bourgeoisie owns the means of production and the proletariats are the labor and means of
production. The relationship between these two social classes is very unique. While they both
work together in a way, and have similar interests, they are completely different from each other.
This is called the relation

Describe the Type of Memory Loss
1.2 Describe the types of memory impairment commonly experienced by individuals with
dementia. Memory problems are usually the most obvious symptom in people with dementia. For
example, a person with early stages of dementia might go to the shops and then cannot remember
what they wanted. It is also common to misplace objects. As dementia progresses, sometimes
memory loss for recent events is severe and the person may appear to be living in the past. They
may think of themselves as young and not recognise their true age. At first, someone with
dementia may appear to be easily irritated or moody. More challenging behaviour may develop in
some people over time. For example, in some cases, a person with dementia may become quite...

Some of the most common symptoms include a of loss inhibition (saying or doing things which
are socially inappropriate), reduced empathy (problems understanding and responding to the needs
of others), problems with planning and organising activities, increased distractibility, changes in
food preference (a propensity to eat large quantities of sweet food) and a tendency to develop
compulsive rituals (e.g. watching the same movie repeatedly). (2) Progressive non fluent aphasia
(PNFA) is characterised by problems with speech production. Individuals may struggle to find the
correct words when engaging in conversation. Often individuals will struggle to pronounce words
correctly (especially if they have more than two syllables), and their speech will lack appropriate
grammar. Problems understanding speech can also be present, especially if the sentence contains
complex grammar. (3) Semantic dementia is characterised by a selective deficit of semantic
memory, which is our memory store for factual information about the world around us e.g., the
knowledge that apples are fruit is a semantic memory. Individuals affected by this condition have
difficulty understanding the meaning of written and spoken language, pictures and objects. In some

Descartes Teachings On Dualism
To understand how the dualist commits a category mistake, one must first understand Descartes
teachings on dualism from the Meditations on First Philosophy. Firstly, Descartes sees the mind
as an immaterial, non physical soul. He believes that his thoughts can be altered but he can
never be tricked into the thinking that he is thinking when he is not. While he has complete
faith in the existence of his mind, he doubts the existence of his body and the existence of other
people s minds. The reason for his doubt in his body is that he believes he can be tricked into
perceiving himself as having a body when he in fact does not. Descartes sees the mind as
separate from the body and believes that the two are composed of different kinds of substances,
one being mental and the other being physical. He further separates the mind from the body by
claiming that because the mind has the property of being undoubtable while the body has the
property of being doubtable, the two cannot be the same thing. According to Gilbert Ryle in his
article Descartes Myth he sets out to prove that there is no distinction between the body and the
mind, that the existence of the mind is obvious, and that Descartes entire theory is founded on
unsound reasoning. Ryle claims that the substance dualist makes a category mistake because they
refer to the mind and the body as existing in two separate categories. He explains that a category
mistake represents the facts of mental life as if they

The Effect Of Glass On Everyday Life
3.Discussion
3.1.Effect of Glass on Everyday Life
Mirrors and their applications were pivotal in the development of the sciences of optics, chemistry
and astronomy (Rasmussen, 2012). It has even been said that the Renaissance and the Scientific
Revolution might not have happened if not for the invention of mirrors (MacFarlane, 2002).
Eyeglasses have been said to be one of the greatest inventions ever because without them, people
born with poor vision not only find performing daily tasks much more difficult, but would also be
severely constrained in terms of the amount of education they can receive and thus in their life
opportunities.
This is further underlined when one takes into account the fact that approximately 6 out of 10
people in the world today either wear glasses, contact lenses, or have previously undergone
corrective eye surgery. Even for those born with good vision, they typically lose their ability to
focus by their mid 40s, which means that eyeglasses have considerably lengthened the intellectual

Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason
Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel between the
surface level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning underneath. This parallel is
seen throughout the story, from the start when Leroy Moffitt is building craft kits for at first just
to pass time, while Norma Jean is lifting weights and working at a Rexall drugstore for the same
reason; To later on when Norma says she doesn t know what she s talking about and Leroy thinks
that the way to saving his marriage is to come up with a last minute idea. The story engages the
theme of the parallellevels through the unstable marriage of Leroy and Norma Jean. The theme of
this parallel is shown overtly through the images, descriptions, and characterizations of the log
cabins in the story, and of Shiloh. Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck
on the surface, shown through how both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the
names in the story.
Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because of how their
lack of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes them to drift apart and
eventually separate. One of the most important things in marriage is the ability to communicate,
but neither of them are able to do so on a meaningful level. An example of this is when Norma
Jean starts to explain why she wants to leave him, then as she walks away she takes back what she
said, adding No, it

The Role Of Vampirism In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Vampirism and what it entails has always taunted us. The idea of coexisting with an unknown
creature it is engrossing, though the desire to adjust it to an unreal reality. This blood craving
creatures helped build up American sci fi cinema, providing every necessitated tool to accumulate
numerous believers . The nineteenth century gave birth to the first vampires (ferocious creatures
feared by humans) and their popularity has done nothing but increase steadily. Their fancy clothes

The terror faded away and new vampires are not consumed by the sunlight anymore; now their
bodies transmit a dazzling light. Directors and writers employ pathos in order to appeal to the
audience s emotions in their attempt to make vampires more likable . Kevin Williamson, creator of
the hit The Vampire Diaries, gave us a different and modern perspective of what vampirism truly
means in the twentieth first century. With their umbrella overhead and their pale skin tone
vampires ambulate our streets. They do not hide. They do not murder to remain alive. They are one

A Research Study On Using Ng Tube Feeding
When a patient no longer has the desire to or appears unable to feed themselves orally, a request
for a feeding tube ensues completion by the nurse. Specifically, when a patient has prolonged
bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI blockage and cancer. An enteral tube feeding nasally situated has
capabilities for only a short period of time. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the
stomach or in the small intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the
use of NG tube feeding persists as incorrect placement. A nurse can unintentionally place an NG
catheter into the lungs, most notably when a patient has little to no gag reflex. Completing a test
for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x ray after inserting an NG tube for confirmation of
proper insertion. Another major complication when using NG tube feeding is aspiration within the
lungs due to gastric substances enter the trachea and into the bronchial spaces of the lungs. Keeping
the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce aspiration to least possibility.
Applying a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube for enteral feedings when NG tube has interfered with
therapy or ensues intolerance. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip situated in the stomach and exits the
body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a bumper holds it into location.

Biology Reflection
As the bell rung for the end of first period, I gathered my things and began to walk to my second
period class, Biology. Biology was always to me the hardest subject I had ever dealt with
because there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into
the classroom and I ll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off guard.
Get out your notes and study because you have a test today , he said. As I heard him finish his
sentence, my eyes widen and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes
as fast as I could. I had completely forgot that I had a test in biology.
While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this
test. After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard the teach yell 5 more minutes . I began to
skim even faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach
yell times up , it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around
the classroom and instructed us to fill out our student ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled
answer sheet and counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which
frightened me even more because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied.
Then he handed out the test and I became extremely nervous because not only did I barely study
and there were 30 multiple choice questions, but the classroom was so cold that

Japanese Immigrants During The 19th Century
In the early 19th century, there was an increase of Japanese immigrating across the states. The
first wave of Japanese immigrant settled in Kingdom of Hawaii where they were hired as contract
laborers and worked in plantations. The second wave of immigrant came to California in the1890s.
According to Kitano, the census identified more than 110,000 Japanese on the West Coast by 1920.
To elaborate, the Japanese immigrants came as single males, and employment for them consisted of
physical difficult labor, long hours of work with bad conditions, and low paying jobs. The
generations of the Japanese were categorized to research their historical background. Furthermore,

Some Issei returned to Japan as successful men, and those who stayed in the United States typically

United States. Kitano stated, The Issei lived their lives segregated from the U.S. mainstream, and
their major interactions revolved around their families and their community. Most of them acquired
just enough knowledge about the United States in order to function but left the major of
acculturation and a more secure existence to their American born children . Moreover, the Nisei
were born between 1910 and 1940, and were more acculturated to the United States in comparison
to the Issei. The Nisei were concerned and had low expectations of their future because they
experienced discrimination and prejudice. It was difficult for the Nisei to live in the U.S. because
they were treated inferior although they were U.S. citizens. The Nisei had a strong relationship
with the U.S. and moved away from the Issei to assimilate to the American lifestyle. The Sansei
were born during or after World War II. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, many Americans became
suspicious of the Japanese and feared another attack. Prejudice influenced Americans to stereotype
the Japanese in negative ways, which lead for U.S. laws to discriminate and segregate the
Japanese. As a result, on December 7, 1941, the FBI searched and arrested spies , including 2,192

Starry Night, Strong Sense Of Comfort, And A Deep Sleep...
Chloe Studyvin Mr. Bergmann Sophomore Honors P6 October 10 2016 Dreamland Starry
night, strong sense of comfort, and a deep sleep creates the perfect formula for a sensational
dream. Many people know that they have dreams, even if they do not remember them. Yet, a
scarce amount of people know how, when, and why dreams actually occur. This same concept is
true for deja vu. Many individuals wonder, what are dreams? How do dreams relate to deja vu?
If so, how is it possible for dreams to predict the future? All these questions will be ceased.
Despite some people s beliefs, dejavu comes from dreams. A dream is a series of thoughts,
images, and sensations in a person s mind during sleep. But what exactly occurs in these
imaginative episodes? Is it a pathway to another realm? Another galaxy? Actually, dreams are
controlled by neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters determines whether we are awake or whether
we are asleep, sort of like a switch (American Sleep Association). In dreams, there are actually
multiple sleep stages (Withings). These sleep stages are all called neurotic rapid eye movement,
or NREM. In fact, dreams do not even occur until the fourth and final NREM stage. The first stage
is the lightest stage of sleep. This stage makes it effortless to fall in and out of slumber. Stage one
is also the shortest in duration in comparison to the other phases, lasting approximately about 1 10
minutes. During this period, your heart rate becomes steady

The Role Of Suffering In The Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen s story The Little Mermaid addresses many dark ideas that Disney s
film The Little Mermaid avoids. The avoidance of dark topics by Disney can be attributed to
Disney targeting a different audience as well as Disney wanting to keep a happily ever after on
the story of Ariel. The role of suffering in Andersen s stories is attributed to the desire of young
girls for something in which they should not or cannot have. This desire propels the characters in
Andersen s stories to make decisions that lead to them losing their own identity as well as their
families. In Anderson s story The Little Mermaidsees a Prince on her fifteenth birthday and she

Fear mongering is a tactic used to scare people away from what they do not understand whether it
be sexuality, religion or ideology. Fear mongering is intentionally used to arouse public fear about
a topic people do not understand. The age group targeted for this fairy tale would be pre teens and
teens. The fairy tale would start out with a group of rabbits talking to each other around a
campfire and this group of rabbits would be the main population in the story. Then, one rabbit
by the name of Mr. Scared Bunny would describe a giant rabbit to the other rabbits and the other
rabbits do not know anything about the giant rabbit, thus anything that the storytelling rabbit
says about the giant rabbit is the only information this group of rabbits has on the giant rabbit.
The giant rabbit would be the protagonist in the story because he is being targeted by Mr. Scared
Bunny s incorrect facts and the giant rabbit is really just the Easter bunny trying to overcome
stereotypes generated by rabbits that do not know him. During the fairy tale the rabbit will
describe the giant rabbit as being dangerous to society and a potential threat to their lives, if
allowed to live peacefully and undisturbed amongst the normal rabbits. However, the rabbit
sharing details about the giant rabbit has no idea what the giant rabbit is actually like. The result
of the rabbit s tale of the giant rabbit thus, has created fearmongering amongst the population of
rabbits and they fear for their lives of a rabbit that they don t even know. The giant rabbit ends up
ostracized and sad because he has no friends and the other rabbits will not approach him. At the
end of the fairy tale the giant rabbit turns out to be the Easter bunny and the other rabbits had no
reason to fear. The fearmongering though, created an environment in which someone who was

Introduction:
Introducing a new product or service into a foreign market is a significant business achievement.
As a matter of fact, there are a few things that companies have to face when it comes to
globalization. This essay will deal with luxury products, and more particularly with high end
jewellery from the French brand Cartier. These products will be launched within the Chinese
market, as it is close to become the largest luxury market in the world. In order to make this
project as successful as possible, this essay will be divided into two parts. On the one hand, we will

Thus, many Chinese parents have a desire to protect their children from the suffering they
encountered . They see their child as a second chance to live a happiness which they themselves
had not experienced (Croll, 1985). Nowadays, these only children came to adopt the nickname
Little Emperors because of the large portion of time and money their parents devote to them.
Families provide their children with a first world lifestyle and spend a lot of money in luxury
products; they need to have the best things to succeed. Young Chinese consumers are then seen as
a big opportunity for many global marketers. The one child policy created a large middle class
with a large amount of disposable income that would never have been possible to obtain if these
couples had bore multiple children.

one of the many blue coloured workers in the oil refineries whilst his mother worked as a

cut short when in 1943 he entered the local University of Texas to study Physics only to be

He was one of the first artists to experiment with blueprint paper in the early fifties, and then he
began to incorporate the everyday found objects and daily media images from the press, he
wanted to act in the gap between art and life and found mediums that best did that for him whether
it be photographs, (he often would have a camera on him and built up an extensive library of
images from his travels through life), magazine clippings, junk, found used objects or images from
history books.
The Dada movement formed during the First World War clearly affected Robert s work; they
promoted the use of collage and assemblage, in particular artists such as Kurt Schwitters and
Hannah Hoch as well as artists of the movement such as Man Ray being the first to adopt
photographic materials for artistic purposes. Dadaists broke down the boundaries between art and
everyday life, for they were concerned with provoking the public into reacting to their activities
and Rauschenberg too did not want to create enduring masterpieces for an elite but to further a
perpetual process of discovery in which everyone could participate
It was in 1962 that Rauschenberg picked up the silk screening process and both he and Andy
Warhol explored this new technique together.
The process for Almanac would consist of him enlarging his chosen images onto the photosensitive
silk screens, which he would then lay on top of the canvas and force the black viscous

Adam Smith And The Enlightenment Essay
Freedom is the alone unoriginated birthright of man, and belongs to him by force of his humanity.
Immanuel Kant. The Enlightenment period was all about mankind deserving freedom to each and
his own. Several philosophers had their own ideas about how freedom should be distributed. John
Locke, Voltaire, Adam Smith, and Mary Wollstonecraft were the main philosophers of this time
who shared their opinion about freedom and who deserved it and who shouldn t have the rights

freedom and that the governmentshould be controlled by the citizens, along with laws and trials.

Employee Paid Time Essay
Paid time off is very appealing to employees and it is also a helpful tool for employers to utilize.
Allowing an employee twelve days off instead of dividing up some days for vacation and some
days for sick days, gives the employee the flexibility to use the days however the employee
wants to use them. With that being said, the concept of paid time off may provide an employee
more time to use as vacation days, which is a powerful tool that can benefit the employer because
it would help in recruiting and retaining employees within the organization (Lopez, 2014). The

It officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009 and all began with the bursting of an 8 trillion dollar housing bubble. A volatile mixture of financial market chaos triggered by the housing bubble and low consumer spending left millions of Americans wondering about their economic fate, the fate of their neighbors, and the fate of the nation. The Great Recession, from 2007 2009, is the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression, from 1929 1939. In spite of its currency, much of the world doesn t know what led up to the Great Recession, let alone what caused it. This video simplifies the housing crisis and breaks down the key factors that attributed to the downfall of the financial market. • 4. Just Mercy Book Report As a young child I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow up. While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of deep reflection I found that I knew two truths about myself: I loved education, and I gained fulfillment through helping others. Developing and learning in the course of my four years at Loyola University Chicago, I discovered a passion to pursue a career in higher education. The early years in my life were characterized by my childhood community in the western suburbs of Chicago. My hometown was very sheltered with little diversity. Upon graduation from high school, I knew I wanted to join a community where I would be challenged, supported, and most importantly, be with those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going to college and being in a university setting was the first time my perspectives and ideas were broadened. I was able to see the world outside my small suburb, and learned harsh realities, which I was sheltered from my whole life. Social justice advocate, Bryan Stevenson, expounds the idea of getting proximate to issues that one cares about. For me, getting proximate was accomplished by being on a university campus, and learning from the ideas of others, as well as new, first hand experiences. As I was supported and encouraged in my growth at Loyola, I want to provide the same assistance for other students. Through my years I have excelled at organization and coordination, skills that I hope to apply in order to help students in a university setting. More so, I want to help support students who enter college, those who wish to expand their knowledge, viewpoints, and minds. Higher education would offer me a unique opportunity where I would be able to support students in their growth as a person, while offering encouragement and assistance to students throughout their college ... • 7. Coronary Artery Disease Research Paper Abstract The heart is composed of four chambers, the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricles. This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. The coronary arteries are in charge of distributing adequate amounts of oxygen to the heart2. The heart s nodes help the heart function with electrical impulses which allow the heart to contract. • 9. Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins With every end, there is a beginning. When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in nature where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us, readers, to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery where spring has arrived and everything that happens during this seasonis happening right in front of us. The speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference between the seasons and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in almost all aspects as he describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind, soul, and body is refreshed with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him, he conceptualizes the natural world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual awakening. Here is the interpretation and analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect the grammar and meaning of its sentences: Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush; In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of Spring. With the dash after the word spring, it means that the speaker is trying to let the readers believe the first statement that nothing is so beautiful as Spring. • 10. Classical Dance Research Paper As a classical dancer, the word dance has meant many different things to me. I grew up as an artist and started ballet at a late age. After I finished training I danced with multiple companies across the US. My experience on stage, and as a dancer has given me a unique view on dance and the dancecommunity. Because of this I do not think a single definition of dance is appropriate. Instead, classical dance is better described as a combination of, art, technique, performance, and community. Before I began formal training in classical dance I was performing vocalist and actor. As a performing artist, I had already gained a deep appreciation for dance, leading me to take a balletclass. When I first began, ballet was just an extension of my performing resume, something I did only to so I would be a more castable actor. Currently, many of the early colonists fled to geographical areas that were constructed by a culture of the first colonists. Due to extended motivations for voyaging the New World, isolating individual reasons for the two contrasting Chesapeake and New English cultures was very challenging. The settled land shaped the development of the contrasting cultures because of the different environments encountered by the colonists. The British colonies in New England were very religious based, and claimed to believe in God more than other colonists. Religion was family based and with extreme devotion. In contrast, religion was less relentless in the Chesapeake. The religious emphasis was small, and numerous people did not participate within the Church. In the arts, as in other aspects of life, there was an increased emphasis on pluralism and diversity. In the twentieth century, there were revolts spanning all areas; but in this essay, I will focus on the musical aspects of them. Composers drew inspiration from an enormous variety of sources, including folk and popular music; the music of Asia, Africa, and Latin America; and European art music from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century. During the twentieth century, differences among styles were so great that it seems as though composers used different musical languages, not merely different... Impressionist music is not something that can be shown to the audience. It is something for the audience to listen to and create their own particular atmosphere. Debussy stressed tone color, atmosphere, and fluidity; elements that are essential to impressionism. Neoclassicism is a trend in which composers sought to return to aesthetic precepts associated with the broadly defined concept of classicism , namely order, balance, clarity, economy, and emotional restraint. Surprisingly, neoclassicism music reached back to the Classical era for some of its inspiration. • 14. Mythological Norms By Audre Lorde The concept of mythical norm was introduced by a feminist writer, Audre Lorde, who critically analyzed the dominant power mechanism in society that operates through a deeply ingrained idea of a normalized and naturalized male identity. This normative identity is both an image and ideal that stands out as a symbol of societal norms and privileges that are institutionalized in the law. More specifically, Lorde wrote, Somewhere, on the edge of consciousness, there is what I call a mythical norm, which each of us within our hearts knows that is not me. ... [T]his norm is usually defined as white, thin, male, young, heterosexual, Christian and financially secure. It is with this mythical norm that the trappings of power reside within this society. (as cited in Perry, 2011, p. 57) Even though Lorde positions this identity norm at the edge of consciousness, the norm seems to be at the center of the dominant societal myths about privilege and its discourses of law. As the particular male centric vision of power, the mythical norm functions as a regulating and governing social site and system of privileges through which unearned advantages are naturally attributed to all members of the identity norm without their own efforts and contributions (Perry, 2011, p. 57). Consequently, this normative category of men receives some of the main social, political and economic benefits by the virtue of their belonging to the aforementioned identity group. Psychotherapy Portrayal Therapy INTRODUCTION Kadushin (1969) first suggested that the general public s perceptions of psychotherapy were based on popular culture such as movies and television. Since that time, various authors have agreed with this general position. For example, Hyler (1988) argues that it is difficult to ignore the potential influence films have on the public s views about therapists when he states: It is important for [psychotherapists] to be aware of how their profession is depicted in films, since this is often how our patients, and their families, form their image of us. In many instances awareness of these images may help us understand the resistance of patients and/or their families to medication or other types of therapy, or their unreal expectation,... He even found that a documentary, which was thought to balance the negative impact of the film, had no effect. Other studies do not support the idea that media portrayals impact those who view them. For example, Sancho Aldridge and Gunter (1994) investigated the impact of a British television comedy about psychiatrists on individuals perception of psychiatrists and found that there was no evidence this 16 television series led to misconceptions or stereotypical views of psychiatry as a profession. Hodson (2001) argues that whereas television depictions of therapists are often humorous, it is the portrayals on the big screen that pose the biggest threats to the field due to the overly biased nature of these portrayals. This era is often associated with the advancement of scientific research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world superpowers, especially through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual politics of the Cold War, Joseph Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago, argues in his novel, The Theater of Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform for the U.S. security state to transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through multiple government operations during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as an undeniable threat to the American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear fear. Masco believes that the current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a continuation of the effects of the Cold War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco argues that the nuclear projects during the Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth science research. He feels that through the increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War nuclear projects were linked to environmental concerns. Through these examples, Masco demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced the U.S. cultural understanding of nuclear threats. Many people say that the good life is living a prosperous life full of happiness. There are many different ideologies of the good life and each philosopher has their own values and beliefs. I decided to pick one of the most well known philosophers, Karl Marx. Karl Marx s philosophy is by far one of the most looked at. He called capitalism the dictatorship of the upper class. , saying that it was run by the wealthy class solely to make profit and maximize their own benefits. The end product and goal of capitalism was simply economic gain. In this philosophy there has to be organized production, which includes the means of production, such as factories, facilities, machines, and raw materials. Throughout this paper I will describe certain aspects of Karl Marx s philosophy mainly focusing on why capitalism is not the way to road to the good life. A good example of this can be looked at by recognizing the class struggle between bourgeoisie and proletariat, otherwise known as the upper and lower class. The bourgeoisie owns the means of production and the proletariats are the labor and means of production. The relationship between these two social classes is very unique. • 39. Describe the Type of Memory Loss 1.2 Describe the types of memory impairment commonly experienced by individuals with dementia. Memory problems are usually the most obvious symptom in people with dementia. For example, a person with early stages of dementia might go to the shops and then cannot remember what they wanted. It is also common to misplace objects. As dementia progresses, sometimes memory loss for recent events is severe and the person may appear to be living in the past. They may think of themselves as young and not recognise their true age. At first, someone with dementia may appear to be easily irritated or moody. More challenging behaviour may develop in some people over time. For example, in some cases, a person with dementia may become quite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often individuals will struggle to pronounce words correctly (especially if they have more than two syllables), and their speech will lack appropriate grammar. Problems understanding speech can also be present, especially if the sentence contains complex grammar. • 41. Descartes Teachings On Dualism To understand how the dualist commits a category mistake, one must first understand Descartes teachings on dualism from the Meditations on First Philosophy. Firstly, Descartes sees the mind as an immaterial, non physical soul. He believes that his thoughts can be altered but he can never be tricked into the thinking that he is thinking when he is not. While he has complete faith in the existence of his mind, he doubts the existence of his body and the existence of other people s minds. The reason for his doubt in his body is that he believes he can be tricked into perceiving himself as having a body when he in fact does not. Descartes sees the mind as separate from the body and believes that the two are composed of different kinds of substances, one being mental and the other being physical. He further separates the mind from the body by claiming that because the mind has the property of being undoubtable while the body has the property of being doubtable, the two cannot be the same thing. According to Gilbert Ryle in his article Descartes Myth he sets out to prove that there is no distinction between the body and the mind, that the existence of the mind is obvious, and that Descartes entire theory is founded on unsound reasoning. Ryle claims that the substance dualist makes a category mistake because they refer to the mind and the body as existing in two separate categories. He explains that a category mistake represents the facts of mental life as if they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Glass On Everyday Life 3.Discussion 3.1.Effect of Glass on Everyday Life Mirrors and their applications were pivotal in the development of the sciences of optics, chemistry and astronomy (Rasmussen, 2012). It has even been said that the Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution might not have happened if not for the invention of mirrors (MacFarlane, 2002). Eyeglasses have been said to be one of the greatest inventions ever because without them, people born with poor vision not only find performing daily tasks much more difficult, but would also be severely constrained in terms of the amount of education they can receive and thus in their life opportunities. This is further underlined when one takes into account the fact that approximately 6 out of 10 people in the world today either wear glasses, contact lenses, or have previously undergone corrective eye surgery. Even for those born with good vision, they typically lose their ability to focus by their mid 40s, which means that eyeglasses have considerably lengthened the intellectual lifespan of a person. Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel between the surface level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning underneath. This parallel is seen throughout the story, from the start when Leroy Moffitt is building craft kits for at first just to pass time, while Norma Jean is lifting weights and working at a Rexall drugstore for the same reason; To later on when Norma says she doesn t know what she s talking about and Leroy thinks that the way to saving his marriage is to come up with a last minute idea. The story engages the theme of the parallellevels through the unstable marriage of Leroy and Norma Jean. The theme of this parallel is shown overtly through the images, descriptions, and characterizations of the log cabins in the story, and of Shiloh. Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck on the surface, shown through how both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the names in the story. Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because of how their lack of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes them to drift apart and eventually separate. Chloe Studyvin Mr. Bergmann Sophomore Honors P6 October 10 2016 Dreamland Starry night, strong sense of comfort, and a deep sleep creates the perfect formula for a sensational dream. Many people know that they have dreams, even if they do not remember them. Yet, a scarce amount of people know how, when, and why dreams actually occur. This same concept is true for deja vu. Many individuals wonder, what are dreams? How do dreams relate to deja vu? If so, how is it possible for dreams to predict the future? All these questions will be ceased. Despite some people s beliefs, dejavu comes from dreams. A dream is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations in a person s mind during sleep. But what exactly occurs in these imaginative episodes? Is it a pathway to another realm? Another galaxy? Actually, dreams are controlled by neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters determines whether we are awake or whether we are asleep, sort of like a switch (American Sleep Association). In dreams, there are actually multiple sleep stages (Withings). These sleep stages are all called neurotic rapid eye movement, or NREM. In fact, dreams do not even occur until the fourth and final NREM stage. The first stage is the lightest stage of sleep. This stage makes it effortless to fall in and out of slumber. Stage one is also the shortest in duration in comparison to the other phases, lasting approximately about 1 10 minutes.
