System Proposal for Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. Essay example
System Proposal for Riordan Manufacturing, Inc.
Introduction
In reviewing the current and historical sales and marketing information for Riordan Manufacturing,
Inc., it became clear that there is a need for a new streamlined system to track the past and present
workings of the company. There are past marketing plans being stored in one location in a file
cabinet, limiting the personnel that has access to it (Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., 2012). Sales
employees are using different methods to track their numbers, in some cases using pencil and paper
(Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., 2012). We propose a new cloud based system that will compile all of
the past sales and marketing information and current customer contacts and needs. This ... Show

System Components Document management systems (DMS) are simply a combination of
hardware and software that help manage and collects electronic documents, converting paper
documents into PDF documents, indexing and storing them for easier access. (Fig.1). This
facilitates searches for such documents in the future, vice going through boxes in the archives
basement. This system can support the large demands that Riordan has, especially as a growing
company. If mobile access is an issue, this system is accessible via Internet. We can also look into
implementing an integrated system called enterprise content management (ECM). Riordan will be
saving an enormous amount of money with this change. Traditionally, this company has been
maintaining paper documents in different warehouses; file clerks running around most of the day
searching for documents in different locations. DMS will clearly demonstrate an improvement in
the turnaround time related to any requests for documentation, relieving the stress related with the
historical lack of efficiency that has been a

Annual Report Naval Surface Warfare Center
III.Analysis
Some of the artifacts that define the NSWC PCD culture include the Annual Report Naval
Surface Warfare Center, strategic plan, annual employee survey results and follow on actions,
and display cases in lobbies of buildings across the base, lack of a formal dress code, and flexible
schedules. The commands values can be seen in the verbiage in the artifacts, e.g. technical rigor,
investing in people, equal opportunity. After the annual employee surveys are analyzed the CO
and TD meet with each department to report the results of the survey and the action items the
CO will take to address any problems identified. Special attention is always given to analysis of
demographics and diversity in upward mobility trends. The first female department head took over
the business support department four years ago. In 2014 there were four female department heads
of the six departments. However, there is only one deputy department head at this time, and very
few female division level managers. A total of only six division or branch head positons are held
by women.
Walking into the lobby of the building 110, location of all upper managementoffices, a visitor is
met with a plethora of display showing naval or command history, examples of items developed
at the base, CO/TD annual award personnel s pictures and write ups, and reminders of any
special awards for specific projects or events of the month. All of which server as reminders of who

Hills Like White Elephants Symbolism
Throughout the course of each person s life, the journey for life appreciation is tested. Many paths
are taken to find the value of it, but when found, it includes the decisions of choosing what s
valuable. Ernest Hemingway Hills like White Elephants is a short story that reveals people s
unseen appreciation for life. As suggested by the title this literary story fits into sub genre realistic
fiction, showing people s different approaches for appreciation. Taking place in 1927, this story
focuses on a young couple who face a big decision in their relationship. On their trip towards
Madrid, they stop at a junction to pause and reflect on their choices. The women can either follow
her boyfriend suggestions of aborting the baby or terminate their relationship by keeping it. Ernest

herself with a scenic view. The theme of this story is revealed by her portraying her sentiments
towards nature. Hemingway uses symbolism of nature to reveal Jig s appreciation for life. This
can be seen when he writes They re lovely hills she said (222) exposing to the reader that this
character is a person who connects with nature and as well as with the child she is bearing. In the

International Market and Trade Research in Ireland
International market and trade research is beyond the capabilities and needs of the small Irish
exporter. Discuss.
International Marketing and Trade Research follows the very same path as domestic research, only
that there are a few more problems that can arise when entering the international market. Customers
in international markets may have very different customs, cultures, and expectations from the same
company than those in their own mother country. In this case, secondary information must be
collected from each separate country and then combined, or compared. This is a time consuming
process and can be confusing but is it beyond the capabilities of the small Irish exporter?

Geographic distance would be a definite problem for the small Irish exporter being that Ireland is an
island on the edge of Europe so physical remoteness is an issue for export etc. But on the upscale
we are easily accessible by sea. Our small size could pose a problem on the international market
for the small exporter. The difference in climate that can occur in Ireland depending on the product
could raise some issues also. Bearing these factors in mind, conducting a feasibility study before
considering a prospective market would be an excellent idea.
Economic distance especially now more so than ever with the EU bailout of Ireland, financial
resources are at an all time low and many markets might be dubious about trading with an Irish
exporter. There could be difference in costs and quality of natural resources, financial resources,
human resources, infrastructure, intermediate inputs or information or knowledge. However our
natural and human resource standards remain very high aswell as a highly educated workforce so
the exporter should be capable of breaking into some foreign markets based on Ireland s continued
good reputation internationally.
It really would depend exactly on what specific type of industry the small Irish firm was dealing in.

The Causes And Effects Of Animal Abuse In The World
We are living in the world that everybody tries to have a better life. We try to have the
comfortable and convenient life for us. We are watching the circus and using them as the therapy
to release stress and depress. However, we don t know the fact that in order to make the circus
become more complete, they have to take away many animal s freedom. All those things is an
example of animal abuse. Animal abuse is the term that describes all the harmful acts toward
animals which are harmed by people either by intentional or unintentional. Other than our general
understanding of animal abuse, we will go through types of animal abuse, why humanshould care
about it, and what should we do. When people think of animal abuse, they often think of the
video they saw where somebody harms a dog, cat... In fact, animal abuse comes in many forms.
Animal abuse includes eating the animal, circus animal, producing cosmetic from inside the
animal. We eat meat, that s the fact. However, the more the technology grows, the more we seem
to kill the animal in such a violent ways that people always say: If you let all the kids go to the
slaughter house, we will have a whole vegetarian generation. ( Wu Ji Yiang). Circus or aquariums
are also another form of animal abuse. We go there and see all types of animals doing tricks, we
have fun; but to train the animalsto do that, they d have to go through a stage where they are left
starving. Trainers use whips, muzzles, tight collars, electric prods,

German Tanks During World War 2
Introduction
During World War II, Nazi Germany developed numerous tank designs, each with varying levels
of success. Out of these designs, the Panzer IV, Tiger I, and Tiger II tanks proved to be the most
effective tanks produced by Nazi Germany. This impressive battle record is shown through the
performances of the tanks themselves as well as the German implementation and tactics involved in
using their armored divisions. The potency of their designs is shown through the analysis of their
specifications and performances during multiple battles. In addition to the characteristics of their
designs and their successes in the battlefield, these tanks were also effective due to tactical
innovation. German armored divisions during World War II proved... Show more content on

Unlike the Panzer III, the Panzer IV was initially designed as an infantry support tank, not to
combat enemy tanks. However, with the inadequacy of the Panzer III against Soviet T 34 tanks
becoming more noticeable, the Panzer IV quickly adopted the function of its increasingly
susceptible relative. Soon becoming the most widely manufactured and distributed German tank of
the war, the Panzer IV saw action in all combat theatres regarding Germany and was the only
German tank to remain in continuous production throughout World War II. In the Eastern Front, an
especially influential upgrade of the Panzer IV s main armament was an enhancement from the
original 75mm gun to a much longer, higher velocity 75mm gun. This allowed the Panzer IV to
overcome its greatest rival, the Russian T 34 tank, with extreme ease. Able to destroy a T 34 at
any range up to 1,200 meters from any angle, this barrel upgrade transformed the Panzer IV from a
close support tank to the best main battle tank of the

Comparing My Brother Sam Is Dead And Colony Of Fear
Paragraphs for Essay Why is it that in My Brother Sam is Dead and in Colony of Fear there is so
much hate between the characters? In this essay there I am going to compare and contrast two
novels. The novels are My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier
and Colony of Fear by Lucy Jane Bledsoe. The Topics to be compared and contrasted are the
characters protagonists and antagonists and the conflict. In My Brother Sam id Dead someone
named Sam Meeker wanted to go to the Revolutionary War, but he went to his house to steal his
father s gun. So, his father caught him then, Sam went to War, with desperation, he left his post he
was caught and charged to be sentenced death then, his brother Tim Meeker went to General
Putman to convince him to release Sam out of jail but he failed. In Colony of Fear, someone
named Samuel Roberts wanted to work as a shoemaker and learn from a man named Master

was very polite because he always treated Nathaniel, Anne, Susannah, and Master Beacon with

The Merchants Of Cool
In Rushkoff s film, The Merchants of Cool, he rhetorically questions if teenagers even have a
culture to call distinctly their own. In the late 1990 s when the documentary was made, the
implication was that they do not. However, with the internet s advancements and the accessibility
of communication with massive amounts of people, teenagers today can form authentic cultures
that are not contaminated by the corporate media. When the documentary was produced, media
exposure was limited to private and expensive mediums such as television, movies and radio. These
outlets were plagued with marketing agendas designed to sell products under the guise of authentic
music and entertainment. Formerly non existent cultural archetypes such as the... Show more

The media chooses to portray and sell sex, violence, drama and role models because it appeals to
teenagers biological and evolutionary instincts. The excessive amounts of sex hormones being
produced in teenagers boosts libido causing displays of eroticism to be very alluring. Scenes of
action or violence release adrenaline and endorphins for emotional stimulation and teen idols
like NSYNC and Edward Cullen portray the ideal mate for many girls. The music presented is
mostly homogenous and simple to promote familiarity and emotional response. Had these
businesses tried to sell celibacy, indifference and pariahs, their profits would have declined. In
The Merchants of Cool, Rushkoff goes to a teenage party to survey rising trends and notices a
strange phenomenon. The girls dancing in front of his camera seemed to be selling the same
exaggerated sex appeal that corporations were selling to the teenagers. He labeled this sensation a
sort of giant feedback loop which implied that, since corporations try to mirror teenage behavior
and then pervert that into a more explicit version to sell back, which in turn causes teenagers to
emulate the corporation s behavior, teenagers are incapable of having a genuine culture to call their
own, much like the young

Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
By: Sargun Bhatia
Total words: 1445
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the
murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader
commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful
relationships and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to
represent the high standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their
objectification. Flowers are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous
expectations to uphold flawed beliefs on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on

This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming
when considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The
euphoric imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact
objectify them. Such is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics
and frailty are commodities that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning
in the Vicario household of the flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and
disembowelling table , encourages comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and
the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to
honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs), which pre empt the grotesque imagery and
reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the victims are literally torn apart yet are a
good source of domestic income . In this way, Marquez uses flowers to compare defenceless pigs
ready for the slaughter to women ready to be married. Pigs and women are used as currency to
service society, where flowers symbolise the expectations of women to be virtuous and delicate
whilst simultaneously

My First Semester At Byu Idaho
I was desperately lost while studying theater during my first semester at Brigham Young
University Idaho. It was what I enjoyed during high school, but I want a career where I am able to
spend time with my family and one where I d be in a position to improve the lives of others. After
taking my first acting class I knew it wasn t what I wanted to do. Since then, I have considered
everything from psychology to accounting. Research and volunteer opportunities, advice from
trusted mentors, and my educationplayed roles in my decision process. I learned to manage my
time wisely in order to spend time with my family. Most importantly, I was able to decide on a
career in optometry, and have since planned out what I want to do after optometry school.
After my first semester at BYU Idaho, I took a two year break from school to serve as a missionary
for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Africa. I dedicated my time to serve the
people surrounding me. Usually the service was simple things: helping wash laundry by hand,
preparing meals, cleaning or even building a mud home. I enjoyed every bit of service I was
able to offer. My parents taught me the importance of hard work, and my upbringing is the reason
I find joy in serving others. This joy has guided me as I have chosen my career path.
I have a beautiful wife and a one year old daughter. Being a father has taught me how to manage
my time more efficiently. Our daughter was born the week before finals. The first

Analysis Of The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis
In the article The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, it discusses how robotics will become an
everyday part of society, how robotics will be used in labor and manufacturing instead of humans
doing jobs that are hazardous, tough, and grimy. The author argues the world will be occupied
with these robotics in the upcoming future which will alter the job industry and change how
chores in households will be done. Making humanity worry whether or not they will lose their
jobs or be killed by a rouge robot. The planet changing as robot technology develops more and
takes over jobs is not an irrational dispute. For decades, engineers and sci fi writers have forecast
a time when autonomous machines would become enough like living creatures to share our
homes and work spaces, performing the three Ds of human labor . The statement has a good
take to reel in the attentiveness of the readers, drawing them in with what they have seen on TV
and media. Robots have been very popular in sci fi shows and movies, which has made humanity
except this will be the future of the world. This brought many fears to humans believing that
robots will take over the earth and harm humanity which is a great way to show that people will
have a difficult time accepting the advancement in robotic technology being used in everyday life.
There is already a friendly robot out helping with an everyday life chore called Roomba. Roombas

Communication Reflection Paper
At times, circumstances in life can unknowingly guide one on a path leading to a promising and
rewarding career. Thanks to my family and sister, I am here today. When I was four years old,
my younger sister Carly was diagnosed with a rare developmental disorder, called Smith
Magenis Syndrome (SMS). Of course at the time I did not understand what this meant, but as we
got older, many of Carly s challenges were attributes that came easily to me and other typically
developing kids. One of her biggest challenges was and still is today is communicating effectively.
For instance, Carly didn t use full words until early elementary school. Before that, she
communicated mostly through pointing or using monosyllabic repetitions when she wanted
objects. At worst, she would express her thoughts and frustrations through outbursts. From this
young age, I was able to observe Carly and her SLP work on improving her communication,
either in our home or during her speech sessions at the therapy clinic. However during my high
school career, becoming an SLP was just in the back of my mind, and was never my first choice. It
didn t become prominent until entered my freshman year of college at the University of Iowa, and
took the Intro to Speech Hearing Processes and Disorders class. Throughout the semester I not only
became interested in the concepts I previously experienced through my sister, but also in concepts I
had never heard of or thought twice about like stuttering, aphasia, and

supporters, His Accidency kept the entire cabinet although he knew there were a few that hated

much more furious. Henry Clay expelled Tyler from the Whig Party, called him a traitor, and
attempted an impeachment. Daniel Webster in the other hand stayed and supported Tyler. Who s

Superman
The History of a Legend: Superman
Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a
single bound! It s a bird! It s a plane! It s Superman! (Bridwell 11) These celebrated words have
echoed for over six decades in American cultural and social society. Created by Jerry Siegel and
Joseph Shuster, Superman was intended to fight greed, crime, injustice and abuse. The impact
created by Superman, or better known to the average man as Clark Kent, extends far beyond the
comic book itself. Although many have grown to love him for the courage he represents, the
personification Superman employs deviates from what is truly natural or innately human by

Wright, the introduction of Superman into American cultural was brought about by the need of
young Americans to feel a connection with the common man . But instead, the connotation created
by Superman strays far away from the notion of an ordinary man. By allocating the name
Superman, he is connected to something that is god like and un human. Dennis Dooley and Gary
Eagle present the argument that Superman achieves truly mythic stature, interweaving a pattern of
beliefs, literary conventions and cultural traditions of the American people more powerfully and
more accessibly than any other cultural symbol of the 20th century. But this mythic stature created
a culture that allowed its followers to question nature and its power and allowed for the
establishment of beliefs that were detrimental to the natural order of the world. Even Steve Skelton,
the author of The Gospel According to the World s Greatest Superhero presents the fact there is a
parallel between Superman and God. Have Siegel and Shuster gone too far? The cultural and social
superhero of Superman was one that was intended to attract those who felt disconnected from the
American world in which they lived. But, as time would tell, this action figure would translate into
an omnipotent entity. Although most Americans look up to the Clark Kent disguised as his super
self, there are several blurry implications that remain at the surface of these comic books. By
assuming the name Superman,

Female Sexual Offenders And Female Sex Offenders
Just like most crimes, the number of female sexual offenders is much lower than the number of
male sexual offenders. This is especially true about sex offenses. For a while, most people didn t
believe that woman could even commit a sex related crime; besides prostitution. There is still a
stigma around the topic; woman are the victims, not the offenders. This is not true though. Female
sex offenders have their own category. This is because their motives and actions are different than
a man s. The research done on female offenders can be bias because it is such a small amount
compared to the malepopulation of sex offenders.
Woman are thought to make up less than 5% of all sexual offences (Harris, 1979). This is very
small compared to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The victims of a female s sex offender are generally younger than a man s victim. An
investigation was held in Arkansas in 1999 and reported that 50% of their victims were
categorized as 11 16 and 24% were in the 4 10 age range (Tewksbury, 2004, p 368). Solis and
Benedek mention a study that found 60% of males who reported sexual abuse had identified a
female as the offender (1993). The female offenders who abuse young boys are suggested that
they have a difficult time associating with adult males and they use the boys as a substitution
(Solis and Benedek, 2012). This could be because of their own trauma as a child, they do not have
healthy relationships with any adult male in their life. So, they go after children. It is also pointed
out that females are more likely to victimize other females. One thought on why females victimize
other females is because they have a male counterpart, who is attracted to females. According to
Tewksbury (2004), the female offender knew the victim:
In Fromuth and Conn (1997) s study of self reported sexual perpetrators in a college population,
68% of the victims were identified as family members. Faller (1995) reported that in the sample of
40 clinically referred perpetrators, 85% were mothers and 55% abused only their own children,
whereas 30% abused both their own and other s children.

Sociological Perspective Essay
The purpose of this paper is to construct an essay and define the sociological perspective. To be
able to explain how my knowledge of the Sociological Perspective has helped me to understand
the social world on both a macro and micro level. This essay will include the definition, discussion
and application of specific sociological terms, concepts and theories.
The study of sociology brings people to view topics in a unique way than others. The way we see
the world, human behavior, as well as its connection to society from an outside point of view is
called social imagination or perception. The sociological imagination searches for the link between
micro and macro levels of analysis, a concept that basically says that a person lives ... Show more

Second each structure has a function that contributes to the continued stability or equilibrium of the
unified whole. Therefore, everything is perceived in a big picture from a macro point of view on
life in our society. Manifest functions are the obvious, intended functions of a social structure,
while latent functions are the less obvious, perhaps unintended functions.
Conflict theory is the second major school of thought in sociology. It is a macro level type of
approach to understand social interactions in social life, just like functionalism. A difference in
conflict theory is that our society is viewed as always being in a constant struggle, unlike
functionalism which theorizes that our society is stable. Conflict theory is a paradigm that sees
social conflict as the basis of society and social change, and emphasizes a materialist view of
society, a critical view of the status quo, and a dynamic model of historical change. Some
sociologists may believe that if these tensions, stresses, and struggles never existed in our society
people may be more driven to achieve greatness in education, or simply more motivated to set
higher goals. Just like functionalism, the conflict theory viewed society on a macro sociological
level, but the individual person in our society are having their lives shaped by the economy, control
and power. The conflict perspective s main idea is that there are opposing interests

Goal Analysis
The underlying values I had to support the goal to exercise at least twice a week was
perseverance, patience, and willpower. All these values are necessary for me to achieve this goal
as I m generally a laid back person and I would not do anything without a little push. Sam, my
roommate and best friend, is usually the one to get me off my butt.
The specific affects, behaviors, and cognitions I have been dealing with widely varied with my
schedule. My affects for this goal were I was tired after a long day of classes or I felt frustrated
that I could not reach the mini goals I set for myself. My behaviors were usually running on the
treadmill and walking to the McCann gym, which takes a lot of forcing to go. My cognitions
were that I was not getting fit so I was wasting my time, and if I get healthier, I don t get to eat
what I want. These factors hinder my progress in achieving my goal as they don t make me feel
good and keep from doing them.

Nutrition is a major factor in why I did not want to work out as I like to eat anything sweet
without a second thought so I have to eat less of them. Using and withholding rewards could go
with nutrition as I should have not tried to go all at once to work out with a solid plan and is why
it backfired. Being in the moment matters as it can help focus on the present where exercise matters
the most as opposed to thinking about the future straight on.
Procrastination got in the way of achieving my goal as I always put exercise as last in my list of
things to get done as I would rather relax with friends or play video games. I m a major
procrastinator despite being extremely organized. It s almost an oxymoron, but procrastination

Citizen Kane Narrative Techniques
1.)Citizen Kane is recognized as one of the greatest films made in the history of cinema, mostly due
to its innovativeness. The cinematography, sound, and narrative structure cemented Citizen Kane s
legacy and influenced films of all genres for years to come. James Naremore wrote an essay that
described why Citizen Kanewas held up to such high regard, using examples from other scenes to
highlight how the use of certain techniques help to make the film stand out. Naremore writes that
Kane is important for many reasons, among them its ingenious juggling of time and perspective, its
carefully designed sound track, and its influential use of wide angle, deep focus photography. (pg.

Citizen Kane focuses on developing scenes from the protagonist s past, and how his death has
affected the secondary plot of a reporter investigating his last words. The narrative strategy, in
which the whole story is told in flashback from slightly different points of view (the equivalent of
the unreliable narrator in fiction), was unprecedented in a Hollywood film. The technique of
telling the story of Kane from multiple points of view dispels the illusion that we are learning
the truth about Charles Foster Kane. As numerous commentators such as Naremore have
observed, the film is like a complicated jigsaw puzzle which the viewer must piece together, bit
by bit, in order to see the whole picture. Only in the final moments of the film, when we despair
of ever discovering the meaning of Rosebud, does the film s narration return us to a privileged
omniscient perspective, revealing the final missing piece. One scene that helps develop the unique
structure is the beginning scene, with the film opening to Kane s death. Most films do not begin
with the character s death, especially with a detailed scene like Citizen Kane. At the start of the
film, the camera pans up and over a sign on a wire fence

Fears Vs. Phobias, And When Does A Fear Become A Phobia
Fears vs Phobias
Research Question: What is the difference between fears and phobias, and when does a fear

Introduction: Almost everyone has an irrational fear or two of mice, for example, or your annual
dental checkup. For most people, these fears are minor. But when fears become so severe that they
cause tremendous anxiety and interfere with your normal life, they re called phobias. A phobiais an
intense fear of something that, in reality, poses little or no actual danger. Common phobias and

Session One: Albert was presented with a rat. Just as he reached for it, a steel bar behind him was

Session Two: The following week the rat alone was presented. Then three presentations were made

Common Cold Recovery
The runny nose, the painfully scratchy throat, and clammy body are all common symptoms of
the common cold, a sickness that almost everyone has experienced in their lifetime. A cough
heard in the cold weather is normal and even expected, but what if one never had to deal with
problems like these again? Or if they did only have them with a fraction of the severity and a
much quicker recovery time? By following three simple and very effective steps, one can
recover more quickly from a cold and possibly avoid catching one altogether. Some of the best
ways include following certain, specific hygienic protocols, eating the proper, nutrient rich foods,
and most importantly of all, resting. First, we all must remember to be clean, which includes
washing one s hands regularly. By washing hands regularly using warm water, soap, and a little

Our bodies are outstandingly complex and capable of doing extraordinary things. Many of these
things happen while we sleep, such as the encoding long term memories. The repair of tissues and
damaged cells also takes place while a human is resting. The common cold is a viral infection, and
once it fights its way into our bodies, begins the task of injecting its own DNA into our cells, not
only reproducing and growing, but changing the original nucleotide sequence of a cell into
something new and deadly. Our bodies then attack these viral cells with the white blood cells,
causing our bodies to kill these infectious invaders. Sleeping allows the body to repair the tissues
that are damaged due to this process leading to a quicker recovery. Resting and staying home while

The Things A Brother Knows is written by Dana Reinhardt. Life after a war can be tragic and

ourselves can solve. Levi sets out on an adventure to help his brother return home and he isn t

because the plots scheme is that out of the ordinary. There is no other book out there that matches
its unique qualities.

Reading the book gave me a rush that pushed me to keep reading. The book teaches of valuable
lessons about life and dedication. In the story, Levi could have given up halfway through his
journey because that seemed like the only option, but he pushed forward and never quit. Boaz
made a promise to one of his friends that he had met over in Iraq. He takes on a journey that he
has spent weeks preparing for. Levi joins in on this task and only does it because he wants to
help out his brother. Throughout the story, you watch Levi go through with life and mature
when he needs to. He steps up and faces all his challenges head on. Life is what happens to you
while you re busy making other plans. (Lennon. Reinhardt 6) I like the quote they used in the
book because it really explains life in a couple of words. It describes a process that could happen
at the blink of an eye, or one that could take time to occur. It shows the beauty of nature.
Reinhardt did a good job at describing the little details that orchestrate the plot of the story, and at
the same time she kept it simple enough to keep you reading. The theme of this book, I believe, is
wanting to mature too quick. The story revolves around wanting to fill shoes that have never been
yours. Levi focuses so much on what everyone else is doing that he forgets to enjoy himself and

as the colonel, is a retired officer in the rebel army. The historical background of the story is
during what is known as la violencia, a civil war between liberals and conservatives in Colombia.
The colonel and his wife live together in a small town under a corrupt government where they
struggle financially. He refuses to sell a cockfighting rooster, left by his dead son Augustin, in hopes
it will win its next tournament and provide some desperately needed income. Meanwhile, the
colonel s loving, asthmatic wife struggles with frustration when dealing with her husbands
blindness. In addition, every friday for the past fifteen years the colonel has visited the town s
postmaster. He is hopeful he will receive a pension promised to him for giving up his revolutionary
fight, but the pension never arrives. After many failed attempts at getting the colonel to sell the

aside and decides to sell his beloved rooster to Sabas, the godfather of his deceased son, for four

finally realizes the rooster s true meaning. In this story, Garcia Marquez teaches the valuable lesson
that hope relieves suffering and gives life meaning. The colonel s optimismis what gets him through

for my fruit paint. The only part of my creation that would not be completely natural would be the

light in color, the juice wasn t thick and dark enough to be legible. After two failures my motivation
and enthusiasm was depleting. I was becoming frustrated and annoyed with the assignment and all
the ideas I had up until this point.
My third attempt turned out to be successful but was more restrictive than I thought it would be.
After racking my brain trying to develop creative ideas I realized I needed to focus on completing
the assignment, meeting the requirements, and keeping the already complicated task as simple as

Death And The Regeneration Of Life By Jonathan Parry
Death and the Regeneration of Life Death and the Regeneration of Life written by Maurice Bloch
and Jonathan Parry focuses on the significance of symbols of fertility and rebirth in funeral rituals.
Their book includes many theories that anthropologist have studied with the idea of life and death.
The idea of deathand the regeneration of life changes with each culture and tradition. Everyone has
his or her own opinion of how it shall work. With the help of many contributors to the book, one is

Due to this, agriculture is their primary value and is their main focus on mortuary rituals.
In contrast with the hunter gatherer societies studied by Woodburn, there is the Gimi ideology.
The Gimi s believed it was more important to reproduce the clan members. However, it was on
the land that women were required to meditate for fertility. To be born one must be fertile,
however if one is born then one must die. Death is very similar to the concept of day and night.
When day comes naturally night follows. This is the same with life and death. When one is
born, time passes and one must die. With the concept of time many want to try to determine the
time and place of death and the dissociation of social death from the termination of bodily
function, clearly represent an attempt to control the unpredictable nature of biological death and
hence the victory of order over biology (15). Death can be looked at in two different ways: good
death and bad death. Good death suggests some degree of mastery over the arbitrariness of the
biological occurrence by replicating a prototype to which all deaths conform, and which can
therefore be seen as an instance of a general pattern necessary for the reproduction of life. On the
other hand, the deaths that which most clearly demonstrate the absence of control are suggested to
be bad deaths and do not result in regeneration (15). The Merina society, nothing is worse then the

State Intervention Essay
State interventions become complex when the severity of the illness is considered. If a child is
ill, but not ill enough, the state is unable to intervene on the child s behalf. It is only when the
child becomes life threateningly ill that the state is able to step in (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 322). The
inclusion of potentially disabling and disfiguring illnesses has been proposed (Hirasawa, 2006, p.
324). The severity of illness complicates state intervention further when the child is stricken with a
fatal illness that has a treatment but only provides a small chance of survival. The state has to

minors and their parents (Woolley, 2005, p. 717). Minors are refused the right to make their own
decisions based on the assumption that they are immature and therefore do not possess the
decision making capacities to make a rational choice (Chen, 2007, p. 645). Current State
Interference The state currently interferes in a variety of manners that might be considered
parenting decisions. The state mandates compulsory vaccinations, education, and adherence to
labor laws (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 319). Children of parents who refuse vaccinations because of
religion are banned from school until the vaccination requirement is met (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320).
Sanctions such as this are in place to protect society, as one is not allowed to act in a manner that
compromises the rights of others (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320). In addition, the state influences diet,
safety standards for car seats, and curfews (Herrera, 2005, p. 825). These subtle controls over
behavior go relatively unnoticed until religion is involved, then they become more noteworthy.
Inconsistencies in the Law The law demonstrates inconsistencies in written laws, enforcement, and

includes setting short and long term goals with specific targets to meet within six months, one year,

Thomas Jefferson was a great American historian known for an abundance of things. Thomas

National Expansion Backbone
Thomas Jefferson was the backbone for National Expansion in the United States. During Thomas
Jefferson s presidency he made remarkable and revolutionary movements. One remarkable
presidential decision was the purchase of Louisiana Territory (1803). A shocking 828,000 square
miles of land stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada, from the Mississippi river to the
rocky Mountains. This nearly doubled the size of the United States. Shortly after purchasing the
territory, Jefferson set life to the Lewis and Clark expedition. In 1803 Jefferson commissioned the
Lewis and Clark expedition, to explore the new NorthWest territory. The following year, 1804, 45
men lead by Meriwether Lewis and Clark went up the Missouri River. However, prior to the

Rhetorical Devices In The Coquette
Meghan Michalski 19 October 2017
From a scene of constraint and confinement, ill suited to my years and inclination, I have just
launched into society. My heart beats high in expectation of its fancied joys. My sanguine
imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and freedom, regulated by virtue and
innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I own myself under obligations for the esteem
which you are pleased to profess for me, and in return, acknowledge, that neither your person nor
manners are disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection, which
must confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for happiness, perhaps
too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim the right of scrutinizing every part of
my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which I am conscious of not having prudence to
avoid, may render me completely miserable (Foster, 29).
Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the readers
perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them with the information to predict Eliza
s inevitable demise before she knows it herself.
Eliza Wharton s yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster s novel, The
Coquette . Eliza views freedom as the ability to partake in the pleasures and joys of youth without
the restrictions and obligations that come with a commitment to marriage. Furthermore, freedom is

Chapter 5 QUESTIONNAIRE DESIGN AND SCALE DEVELOPMENT

Introduction
This chapter describes the importance of a questionnaire and presents the process for developing
questionnaires and observational forms. Guidelines for questionnaire construction are provided at
each stage of the process. In addition, commonly used scaling techniques and use of questionnaires
in experimentation are discussed and the design of observational forms is presented.1
What Is a Questionnaire?
A questionnaire is a formalized set of questions for obtaining information from respondents. The
overriding objective is to translate the researcher s information needs into a set of specific questions
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are exceptions to this rule. Filler questions may be added to disguise the purpose or
sponsorship of the project. For example, in brand studies, a researcher may include questions about
the full range of competing brands so that the respondents won t know who is sponsoring the study.
Early in the interviewing process when the researcher is attempting to build a relationship with
respondents and capture their attention, a few easy to answer neutral questions may be helpful. At
times, certain questions may also be repeated for the purpose of assessing reliability or validity.
Are Several Questions Needed Instead of One?
In some cases, two questions are better than one. However, asking two questions in one is not the
solution. Consider the following question:
Do you think JC Penney offers better variety and prices than other department stores stores?
(Incorrect)
A yes answer will presumably be clear, but what if the answer is no ? Does this mean that the
respondent thinks that JC Penney does not offer better variety, that it does not offer better prices,
or that it neither offers better variety nor better prices? Such a question is called a doublebarreled
question because two or more questions are combined into one. To avoid confusion, these questions
should be asked separately,

Essay on The Impact of Divorce on Children
Divorce, once unheard of among most people, is now a commonplace occurrence in families when
the adults have decided that they can no longer work out their differences. Unfortunately, divorce
tends to have a negative impact on the children in the family, particularly affecting children who
already have psychological or emotional difficulties, such as ADHD (Patten, 1999). Problems that
arise in children of divorcerun the gamut from behavioral problems to later relationship/trust issues.
Children of divorce more often display behavioral problems at school than do children from intact
families, except when abuse is present in the home (Corcoran, 1997). Children of divorce also have
more academic trouble than children from intact homes. This... Show more content on

Adolescents are best emotionally equipped to handle divorce, but they also often face difficulties,
particularly doubting their eventual ability to get or stay married (Patten, 1997). The problems
faced by children of divorce are also sometimes dependent on the child s gender. While boys often
externalize their feelings, becoming outwardly angry, defiant, and frustrated, girls tend toward
internalizing their feelings, becoming depressed or suffering physiological symptoms, like
headache, stomachache, sleeping, or eating problems (Corcoran, 1997). Boys may have more
problems at school, with fighting and behavioral problems becoming more apparent. Adolescent
boys from divorced families are more likely to spend time with deviant peers and engage in
delinquent behavior (Patten, 1997). Girls from divorced families tend to become sexually active
at an earlier age than girls from intact families (Foulkes Jamison, 2001). It is interesting to note
that boys with mothers who remarry or who live with their father as their primary caregiver are
actually less likely to develop these behavioral problems than boys who live with their mother,
however these things do not seem to make a difference for girls (Temke, 2006). Some of the
problems faced by children of divorce may be attributed to their new socioeconomic status.
Generally, in divorce the income level of

Shakespeare Literary Influences
William Shakespeare, the most famous of all English writers, has written many works.
Shakespeare s life has very much to do with the style of his writing as his stories are from his
past experiences. In a very fascinating way, he had the ability to translate the issues of his own
time into universal themes. Shakespeare was of interest with his controversial. He was a
common phenomenon in his day, as he was part of a theatrical world. Shakespeare was
influenced by many different writers such as Christopher Mowe, Geoffrey Marlowe.
Transcendentalists were interested in him because he used his own issues to display actual
things that go in society. For example, one of the most famous plays of all time he wrote was
Romeo and Juliet . This love story reveals fresh depths and nuances when experienced directly
because of the beauty and precision of Shakespeare s language and his brilliant perception of
character. Shakespeare includes much comic byplay between Romeo and his friends and between
Juliet and her Nurse, thus enriching the texture of the play as its characters appear in diverse
lights. Although most of his work was viewed as universal and phenomenal, Henry David Thoreau
had less praise for Shakespeare (Wayne). Poet jones was very ultimately concerned with the lack
of religion, specifically Christian morality, in Shakespeare s plays (Wayne). In Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare displayed different levels of family expectations. The decisions people make

The Roles of Greek Heroism and the Gods in the Persian...
The Roles of Greek Heroism and the Gods in the Persian Wars
The Persian Wars (499 479 BC) put the Greeks in the difficult position of having to defend their
country against a vast empire with an army that greatly outnumbered their own. Many city states
united in battle, although others found ways to avoid participation in the wars. The Greeks also
relied on the words of Apollo to guide them, but the oracle did not always act encouragingly. The
Greeks defeated the Persians in the Persian Wars due to heroic actions performed by Athens and
Sparta and occasional assistance from the gods, but cowardice shown by other poleis nearly ended
the Greeks chances of success.

The Athenians superior attitude would continue throughout the wars against Persia.
The Greeks showed more unity during the Second Persian War. Xerxes assembled a Persian army
including soldiers from all parts of the Eastern world in order to retaliate against the Greeks for
their victory at Marathon, and this caused the Greeks to worry. Thirty one Greek poleis met at
Corinth to discuss the situation, and appointed Sparta to the position of commanding polis due to
its vast hoplite army. Greeks who were loyal to the Greek cause... reconcile[d] enmities and put a
stop to existing wars between each other (Hdt. VII.145.1) in order to fight against Persia. However,
only one Peloponnesian state (Sparta) offered help throughout the wars.
Argos received an excuse from the Delphic oracle to keep it from battle (Hdt. VII.148 152), and
Messene was so corrupted that [it] even tried to prevent Sparta s attempts to come to Greece s
aid (Plato, 692d). Other city states avoided participation in the wars as well. The oracle also
excused Crete from fighting (Hdt. VII.169), and the tyrant Gelon of Syracuse refused to let his
state help Greece s cause (Brunt 158 162). If these poleis had chosen to fight, the Persians may
have been intimidated by the large Greek forces and avoided war. The Greeks instead presented an
image of a nation torn by cowardice, thereby making the Persians more confident in attacking
Greece. This lack of unity among the city states created some

Rosh Hashanah Essay
Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah heads the year of Jewish festivals and traditions. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish
New Year and is usually celebrated for two days in September or October, depending on when it
falls in the Hebrew calendar. Rosh Hashanah celebrates the creation of the world and is a time for
reflection and self evaluation. It is celebrated on the first day of the seventh month (the month of
Tishri). Rosh Hashanah is celebrated by
Orthodox Jews everywhere and is one of the Jewish tradition s holiest days. Rosh Hashanah is the
Jewish New Year but, in contrast with the New Year of other peoples, it is greeted not with noise
and joy, but with a serious and repentant heart. Rosh Hashanah is known by many names and ...

After they light the candles and say kuddish, each person at the table dips a slice of apple into
the honey. Then a blessing is recited over the fruit. A pomegranate is said to has 613 seed. This
number corresponds to the number of mitzvoth, or types of good deeds, that Jews as a society
must perform. A pomegranate on the holiday table announces to the heavenly court that as many
seeds as there are, that s how many good deeds have been performed over the year. Hallah bread
is commonly served on Rosh Hashanah. A ladder, turban like shape, to the Hallah bread
expresses the wish that the family s prayers might ascend to heaven. Dough baked in the shape
of a bird also represents the same wish. It also stands for the words of the prophet Isaiah: As
birds protect their young, so will God protect Jerusalem. Some time between Rosh Hashanah and
Yom Kippur, it is customary to throw bread crumbs into a body of water as a symbolic act of
repentance. Most Jews do tashlich the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah. Family and
friends gather together at the waterfront to cast away the sins of the past year and resolve to be
better in the year to come. Tashlich is a way to admit our own faults and symbolically shed the
baggage if last year s mistakes. In the villages of Eastern Europe it was custom before the

Harvest Of Empire By Juan Gonzalez
When you are young and they ask you what do you want to be when you grow up? Many
answered doctor, lawyer, police, and so on. But when it came for my turn to answer that
question I didn t know exactly what to say. None of those things interest me at all. I was always
focus on school and getting good grades. My mother and father has always told me you have to
do well in school in order to have a better future. Until this day they still tell me this. In harvest of

parents are from the Dominican Republic and they came to the United States in the late 80 s in
order to have a better future. My father came into this country to play major league baseball,
back in his hometown Consuelo, San Pedro de Macoris. He is known for his baseball skills and
grew up with baseball player Sammy Sosa. Although I don t much about my father, I could tell
you he never made it into major league baseball. He wanted to make sure he was always there
for his kids. I don t see my father that often anymore as I used to when I was a kid. My mother
came to this country at a young age to get a better education. Both of my parents have resided in the
Bronx since they got here to the United States. I was born into a lower middle classfamily which
later on in my life it became a lower class due to the circumstances I been through.

There are times when someone does something important to help the person that is suffering.
One example is from the book Night; this is when Elie s dad was about to be thrown out of the

My Love For Photography Essay
Late elementary school afternoons at 2601 Parkside Drive were where my thirst for exploring
the world s clandestine beauties blossomed into something new. Whilst others engrossed
themselves in competitive foursquare and portable video games, I immersed myself in
sketching images of places I dreamt of visiting. All I needed was a pencil in my hand, a
picturesque landscape on my mind, and my Canson sketchbook on the table. The possibilities
were then endless. Slowly, the tabula rasa of this book filled to the brim with a lust to explore
and innovate. Inside, Vietnamese villages that I had once seen on the Internet were now laden
with sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. Iceland s greenery was now characterized by tropical
rainforests and towering skyscrapers. Venice s magnificent canals were now surrounded by great
expanses of icy mountain ranges. Over the years, as this lust diffused into every nook and cranny...

Through endless hours of photographing came revelation upon revelation; it truly was a radical
departure from what my eyes perceived through the sketches of my youth. Creativity to me no
longer represented just originality, it was also a conduit for instilling an appreciation in what can
t be seen. Mastering the camera s effects to manipulate photos illustrated this beauty of
perspective diversity leaving shots overexposed, oversaturated, too wide and too narrow revealed
life in different lights. As a child, I placed my finger on the shutter release of my curiosity and
heard two simultaneous clicks, one for sketching and the other for photography. They changed me;
they caused the pitch black display of my individuality to fade into a beautiful mГ©lange of
colors, each one representing a new creative spark. These sparks then swathed the waters of my
consciousness like fire across paper, seamlessly integrating into my skills, passions, and eventually,

Emergency Fund Essay
How to Build an Emergency Fund
Whether or not you call it an emergency or rainy day fund it is all the same.
Basically, it is a pot of money set aside just in case something happens that is unforeseen i.e., a job
loss or illness.
During the economic crisis this was some people s only and best line of defense against the loss of
their income or investments.
Emergencies are part of life. Being prepared could make all the difference.
What is an emergency fund?
An account that is used to set funds aside that are for worst case scenarios, such as medical illness,
job layoff, or other major expenses.

Benefits of having emergency savings
You are less likely to make bad financial decisions. I am sure no one wants to let the lack of money
cause them to make bad decisions. No knee jerk reactions required if funds are set in reserve. Read
about finances, save, then invest. When you know better you do better.
Less stress is a huge benefit. High stress can trigger all types of health problems from headaches to
heart disease. An emergency fund can help alleviate stressors as these.
Being able to help others. You can now volunteer, donate, or help family and friends when people
are in need. Helping others makes you feel good too. This is also a stress reliever. How much
should you have in an emergency savings?
I recommend 3 12 months worth of expenses. I have a preference for 8 months because when I
lost my job during the recession it took me that long to land a new job.
You should start with a specific goal in mind such as $500 and continue saving from there.
NerdWallet columnist, Liz Weston says $500 is a good place to start, will get you out of most
predicaments, and usually keep you out of the hole.
If you use direct deposit and automatically transfer $10 per week into a savings account, you can

The Strategy Of Airasia X
Problem Statement
In 2001, AirAsia was founded by Tony Fernandes. After six years, Fernandes realized the
company should create a airline separated from AirAsia to focus on the low cost long haul market
which he called AirAsia X. Azran Osman Rani was appointed to the become the CEO of the newly
established company. The company had an initial success by being the first mover. However, there
were some problems that they had to face along the way as they were in a completely new market
using an untried business model. One of the main challenges for the company is the protectionist
measures taken by the Malaysian government to protect the national airline, Malaysia Airlines
(MAS). The other major problem is the limitations on the general ... Show more content on

This helped X to increase the seating capacity by 20 percent. X also had a flexible flight schedule
as its aircraft was in the air for 16 hours per day in average, which is much higher than the industry

SWOT Analysis
AirAsia X s main strength is the low price that it offers for customers. For most airlines in the
industry, it is extremely difficult to keep the price low for long haul flights as the full services
offered in most airlines increase the operating costs. In addition, X also benefited from the
expansive network, infrastructure and customers that AirAsia already has that enabled them to
grow fast with good financial outcomes. On the other hand, X s main weakness is the
technology. The website always crashes and the company doesn t have its own database of
customers. X also doesn t enjoy from a strong relationship with the Malaysian Transport Ministry.
This can be detrimental to the company as it finds competing with Malaysia Airlines in some
profitable routes to be difficult. However, X has some opportunities. For example, in order to
keep the low price ticket, cooperating with fuel companies which will offer low fuel price and
increasing demand in low cost airlines will bring profits. The major threat for AirAsia X is the
protectionist measures taken by the Malaysian government that prevented X from flying planes to
some destinations with high demand. This would have been a very

Robert Frost s Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay
Identity Poem: Nothing Gold Can Stay
In the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, Frost was trying to portray that the leaf first starts out in
springtime. All of nature is gold and then turns into the green that is perceived by all humans.
The golden flowers do not stay that color for long, as when the flowers bud they turn into a green
hue. He talks about this natural process and sort of compares it to the story of the Garden of Eden.
What I think he is trying to say is how beauty never stays but is always short lived. The poem sort
of portrays about the human life in general and how humans see gold as money and fortune but
really once that is all gone there is nothing left, no more beauty. We find so much contentment in
money just as Adam and Eve were content with eating the apple but was that what makes humans
or even America happy.
Society Poem: Fire and Ice
In the poem Fire and Ice, I feel in the beginning of two different kind of people in the world. The
ones that think the world will end up in flames like hell, or those who think there will be a point in
time where everything will freeze. I also notice that he could mean that this ... Show more content

is a great power that has control over the whole universe. We like to think that there is a reason
for everything. Like that there is a reason that all of this stuff that is bad is happening to me
today is for a greater purpose but in the poem Design, Frost shows the other side of that idea. If
God is in control of everything then that means he has his hand in all of the things we do and even

The Mist Review
The apocalypse is a common subject addressed in films and such Doomsday scenarios have
become increasingly popular since the beginning of the Cold War. These films provide a different
cause for the downfall of human kind and approach the subject with various degrees of despair and
hope. Despite the obvious differences in approach that different directors take, these films all serve
to highlight not only the negative qualities of human kind that led to and are represented by the
agent of destruction but also to highlight the strength of the survivors who keep the will to fight for
their lives despite the bleak circumstances. For the most part, The Mist, adapted from a Stephen
King novella, sticks closely to the archetype. The Mist, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtle score of Mark Isham is utilized infrequently, magnifying its effect on the particular
scenes it is present in. In one of the most suspenseful scenes, a volunteer ties a rope around his
waist and ventures into the unknown. Darabont stays fixed in the store and lets the pull on the
rope tell the story, creating great suspense. When the monsters do reveal themselves, the CGI
work is seamless and properly horrifying. The question of where they come from or why they
have come is never addressed even in the slightest. Darabont s focus is always squarely on the
humans, who quickly splinter into competing factions reflecting their own racial, class and
educational prejudices. The Mist is as misanthropic as it can get. As most good monster movies,
this movie is not about the monsters. The monsters are simply primal fears materialized. The
main focus is really the human reaction to the threat. The mist works as a fog of fear, and the
store becomes a sample of most kinds of humans from highly educated to low level working class.
The fog becomes the unknown which is unknown to all walks of life. The Mist shows human
nature at it worst in a crisis. Xenophobia of the out of towners , disbelief, lack of faith, egotism,
paranoia, fundamentalism, bias, an us versus them

  • 2. System Proposal for Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. Essay example System Proposal for Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. Introduction In reviewing the current and historical sales and marketing information for Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., it became clear that there is a need for a new streamlined system to track the past and present workings of the company. There are past marketing plans being stored in one location in a file cabinet, limiting the personnel that has access to it (Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., 2012). Sales employees are using different methods to track their numbers, in some cases using pencil and paper (Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., 2012). We propose a new cloud based system that will compile all of the past sales and marketing information and current customer contacts and needs. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You have encountered data safeguards, such as integrity checks, to help improve data quality when you fill in an online form. For example, the form will not accept an e mail address that is not formatted correctly. System Components Document management systems (DMS) are simply a combination of hardware and software that help manage and collects electronic documents, converting paper documents into PDF documents, indexing and storing them for easier access. (Fig.1). This facilitates searches for such documents in the future, vice going through boxes in the archives basement. This system can support the large demands that Riordan has, especially as a growing company. If mobile access is an issue, this system is accessible via Internet. We can also look into implementing an integrated system called enterprise content management (ECM). Riordan will be saving an enormous amount of money with this change. Traditionally, this company has been maintaining paper documents in different warehouses; file clerks running around most of the day searching for documents in different locations. DMS will clearly demonstrate an improvement in the turnaround time related to any requests for documentation, relieving the stress related with the historical lack of efficiency that has been a ... • 3. Annual Report Naval Surface Warfare Center III.Analysis Some of the artifacts that define the NSWC PCD culture include the Annual Report Naval Surface Warfare Center, strategic plan, annual employee survey results and follow on actions, and display cases in lobbies of buildings across the base, lack of a formal dress code, and flexible schedules. The commands values can be seen in the verbiage in the artifacts, e.g. technical rigor, investing in people, equal opportunity. After the annual employee surveys are analyzed the CO and TD meet with each department to report the results of the survey and the action items the CO will take to address any problems identified. Special attention is always given to analysis of demographics and diversity in upward mobility trends. The first female department head took over the business support department four years ago. In 2014 there were four female department heads of the six departments. However, there is only one deputy department head at this time, and very few female division level managers. A total of only six division or branch head positons are held by women. Walking into the lobby of the building 110, location of all upper managementoffices, a visitor is met with a plethora of display showing naval or command history, examples of items developed at the base, CO/TD annual award personnel s pictures and write ups, and reminders of any special awards for specific projects or events of the month. International Marketing and Trade Research follows the very same path as domestic research, only that there are a few more problems that can arise when entering the international market. Customers in international markets may have very different customs, cultures, and expectations from the same company than those in their own mother country. In this case, secondary information must be collected from each separate country and then combined, or compared. This impressive battle record is shown through the performances of the tanks themselves as well as the German implementation and tactics involved in using their armored divisions. The potency of their designs is shown through the analysis of their specifications and performances during multiple battles. Unlike the Panzer III, the Panzer IV was initially designed as an infantry support tank, not to combat enemy tanks. However, with the inadequacy of the Panzer III against Soviet T 34 tanks becoming more noticeable, the Panzer IV quickly adopted the function of its increasingly susceptible relative. Soon becoming the most widely manufactured and distributed German tank of the war, the Panzer IV saw action in all combat theatres regarding Germany and was the only German tank to remain in continuous production throughout World War II. In the Eastern Front, an especially influential upgrade of the Panzer IV s main armament was an enhancement from the original 75mm gun to a much longer, higher velocity 75mm gun. This allowed the Panzer IV to overcome its greatest rival, the Russian T 34 tank, with extreme ease. Able to destroy a T 34 at any range up to 1,200 meters from any angle, this barrel upgrade transformed the Panzer IV from a close support tank to the best main battle tank of the ... In the late 1990 s when the documentary was made, the implication was that they do not. However, with the internet s advancements and the accessibility of communication with massive amounts of people, teenagers today can form authentic cultures that are not contaminated by the corporate media. When the documentary was produced, media exposure was limited to private and expensive mediums such as television, movies and radio. These outlets were plagued with marketing agendas designed to sell products under the guise of authentic music and entertainment. Formerly non existent cultural archetypes such as the... The excessive amounts of sex hormones being produced in teenagers boosts libido causing displays of eroticism to be very alluring. The music presented is mostly homogenous and simple to promote familiarity and emotional response. Had these businesses tried to sell celibacy, indifference and pariahs, their profits would have declined. In The Merchants of Cool, Rushkoff goes to a teenage party to survey rising trends and notices a strange phenomenon. The girls dancing in front of his camera seemed to be selling the same exaggerated sex appeal that corporations were selling to the teenagers. He labeled this sensation a sort of giant feedback loop which implied that, since corporations try to mirror teenage behavior and then pervert that into a more explicit version to sell back, which in turn causes teenagers to emulate the corporation s behavior, teenagers are incapable of having a genuine culture to call their own, much like the young ... • 10. Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold By: Sargun Bhatia Total words: 1445 Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful relationships and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to represent the high standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their objectification. Flowers are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous expectations to uphold flawed beliefs on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming when considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The euphoric imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact objectify them. Such is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics and frailty are commodities that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning in the Vicario household of the flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and disembowelling table , encourages comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs), which pre empt the grotesque imagery and reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the victims are literally torn apart yet are a good source of domestic income . It was what I enjoyed during high school, but I want a career where I am able to spend time with my family and one where I d be in a position to improve the lives of others. After taking my first acting class I knew it wasn t what I wanted to do. Since then, I have considered everything from psychology to accounting. Research and volunteer opportunities, advice from trusted mentors, and my educationplayed roles in my decision process. I learned to manage my time wisely in order to spend time with my family. Most importantly, I was able to decide on a career in optometry, and have since planned out what I want to do after optometry school. After my first semester at BYU Idaho, I took a two year break from school to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Africa. I dedicated my time to serve the people surrounding me. Usually the service was simple things: helping wash laundry by hand, preparing meals, cleaning or even building a mud home. I enjoyed every bit of service I was able to offer. My parents taught me the importance of hard work, and my upbringing is the reason I find joy in serving others. This joy has guided me as I have chosen my career path. I have a beautiful wife and a one year old daughter. Being a father has taught me how to manage my time more efficiently. • 13. Analysis Of The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis In the article The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, it discusses how robotics will become an everyday part of society, how robotics will be used in labor and manufacturing instead of humans doing jobs that are hazardous, tough, and grimy. The author argues the world will be occupied with these robotics in the upcoming future which will alter the job industry and change how chores in households will be done. Making humanity worry whether or not they will lose their jobs or be killed by a rouge robot. The planet changing as robot technology develops more and takes over jobs is not an irrational dispute. For decades, engineers and sci fi writers have forecast a time when autonomous machines would become enough like living creatures to share our homes and work spaces, performing the three Ds of human labor . The statement has a good take to reel in the attentiveness of the readers, drawing them in with what they have seen on TV and media. Robots have been very popular in sci fi shows and movies, which has made humanity except this will be the future of the world. This brought many fears to humans believing that robots will take over the earth and harm humanity which is a great way to show that people will have a difficult time accepting the advancement in robotic technology being used in everyday life. Thanks to my family and sister, I am here today. When I was four years old, my younger sister Carly was diagnosed with a rare developmental disorder, called Smith Magenis Syndrome (SMS). Of course at the time I did not understand what this meant, but as we got older, many of Carly s challenges were attributes that came easily to me and other typically developing kids. One of her biggest challenges was and still is today is communicating effectively. For instance, Carly didn t use full words until early elementary school. Before that, she communicated mostly through pointing or using monosyllabic repetitions when she wanted objects. At worst, she would express her thoughts and frustrations through outbursts. From this young age, I was able to observe Carly and her SLP work on improving her communication, either in our home or during her speech sessions at the therapy clinic. However during my high school career, becoming an SLP was just in the back of my mind, and was never my first choice. It didn t become prominent until entered my freshman year of college at the University of Iowa, and took the Intro to Speech Hearing Processes and Disorders class. Dennis Dooley and Gary Eagle present the argument that Superman achieves truly mythic stature, interweaving a pattern of beliefs, literary conventions and cultural traditions of the American people more powerfully and more accessibly than any other cultural symbol of the 20th century. But this mythic stature created a culture that allowed its followers to question nature and its power and allowed for the establishment of beliefs that were detrimental to the natural order of the world. Solis and Benedek mention a study that found 60% of males who reported sexual abuse had identified a female as the offender (1993). The female offenders who abuse young boys are suggested that they have a difficult time associating with adult males and they use the boys as a substitution (Solis and Benedek, 2012). This could be because of their own trauma as a child, they do not have healthy relationships with any adult male in their life. So, they go after children. The technique of telling the story of Kane from multiple points of view dispels the illusion that we are learning the truth about Charles Foster Kane. Levi joins in on this task and only does it because he wants to help out his brother. Throughout the story, you watch Levi go through with life and mature when he needs to. He steps up and faces all his challenges head on. Life is what happens to you while you re busy making other plans. (Lennon. Reinhardt 6) I like the quote they used in the book because it really explains life in a couple of words. It describes a process that could happen at the blink of an eye, or one that could take time to occur. It shows the beauty of nature. Reinhardt did a good job at describing the little details that orchestrate the plot of the story, and at the same time she kept it simple enough to keep you reading. The theme of this book, I believe, is wanting to mature too quick. The story revolves around wanting to fill shoes that have never been yours. Creating Text Essay Creating Text The process of creating text without using technology appeared to be a simple task that would allow the students to be a creator of his or her unique technology free masterpiece. I just had to come up with a creative, natural way to write text instead of using modern technologies that society takes for granted. How hard and restrictive could this assignment be? I soon found out everything would not go exactly as planned. It took me two attempts and failures before I finally achieved some level of success. The only part of my creation that would not be completely natural would be the paintbrush, I would have to use this tool since my finger or a stick wouldn t work. After I smashed up all the fruit, I used a paintbrush and dabbed it into the juice then wrote what was supposed to be an A on the surface of the honeydew melon. Once again, I reached another failure. Death And The Regeneration Of Life By Jonathan Parry Death and the Regeneration of Life Death and the Regeneration of Life written by Maurice Bloch and Jonathan Parry focuses on the significance of symbols of fertility and rebirth in funeral rituals. Their book includes many theories that anthropologist have studied with the idea of life and death. The idea of deathand the regeneration of life changes with each culture and tradition. Everyone has his or her own opinion of how it shall work. With the help of many contributors to the book, one is able to read the different types of ways some cultures value their own rituals. In contrast with the hunter gatherer societies studied by Woodburn, there is the Gimi ideology. The Gimi s believed it was more important to reproduce the clan members. However, it was on the land that women were required to meditate for fertility. To be born one must be fertile, however if one is born then one must die. Death is very similar to the concept of day and night. When day comes naturally night follows. This is the same with life and death. When one is born, time passes and one must die. With the concept of time many want to try to determine the time and place of death and the dissociation of social death from the termination of bodily function, clearly represent an attempt to control the unpredictable nature of biological death and hence the victory of order over biology (15). Death can be looked at in two different ways: good death and bad death. Good death suggests some degree of mastery over the arbitrariness of the biological occurrence by replicating a prototype to which all deaths conform, and which can therefore be seen as an instance of a general pattern necessary for the reproduction of life. On the other hand, the deaths that which most clearly demonstrate the absence of control are suggested to be bad deaths and do not result in regeneration (15). If a child is ill, but not ill enough, the state is unable to intervene on the child s behalf. It is only when the child becomes life threateningly ill that the state is able to step in (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 322). The inclusion of potentially disabling and disfiguring illnesses has been proposed (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 324). The severity of illness complicates state intervention further when the child is stricken with a fatal illness that has a treatment but only provides a small chance of survival. Current State Interference The state currently interferes in a variety of manners that might be considered parenting decisions. The state mandates compulsory vaccinations, education, and adherence to labor laws (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 319). Children of parents who refuse vaccinations because of religion are banned from school until the vaccination requirement is met (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320). In addition, the state influences diet, safety standards for car seats, and curfews (Herrera, 2005, p. 825). My heart beats high in expectation of its fancied joys. My sanguine imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and freedom, regulated by virtue and innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I own myself under obligations for the esteem which you are pleased to profess for me, and in return, acknowledge, that neither your person nor manners are disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection, which must confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for happiness, perhaps too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim the right of scrutinizing every part of my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which I am conscious of not having prudence to avoid, may render me completely miserable (Foster, 29). Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the readers perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them with the information to predict Eliza s inevitable demise before she knows it herself. Eliza Wharton s yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster s novel, The Coquette . However, asking two questions in one is not the solution. Consider the following question: Do you think JC Penney offers better variety and prices than other department stores stores? (Incorrect) A yes answer will presumably be clear, but what if the answer is no ? Does this mean that the respondent thinks that JC Penney does not offer better variety, that it does not offer better prices, or that it neither offers better variety nor better prices? Adolescents are best emotionally equipped to handle divorce, but they also often face difficulties, particularly doubting their eventual ability to get or stay married (Patten, 1997). The problems faced by children of divorce are also sometimes dependent on the child s gender. While boys often externalize their feelings, becoming outwardly angry, defiant, and frustrated, girls tend toward internalizing their feelings, becoming depressed or suffering physiological symptoms, like headache, stomachache, sleeping, or eating problems (Corcoran, 1997). Boys may have more problems at school, with fighting and behavioral problems becoming more apparent. Adolescent boys from divorced families are more likely to spend time with deviant peers and engage in delinquent behavior (Patten, 1997). Girls from divorced families tend to become sexually active at an earlier age than girls from intact families (Foulkes Jamison, 2001). It is interesting to note that boys with mothers who remarry or who live with their father as their primary caregiver are actually less likely to develop these behavioral problems than boys who live with their mother, however these things do not seem to make a difference for girls (Temke, 2006). He was a common phenomenon in his day, as he was part of a theatrical world. Shakespeare was influenced by many different writers such as Christopher Mowe, Geoffrey Marlowe. Transcendentalists were interested in him because he used his own issues to display actual things that go in society. For example, one of the most famous plays of all time he wrote was Romeo and Juliet . This love story reveals fresh depths and nuances when experienced directly because of the beauty and precision of Shakespeare s language and his brilliant perception of character. Shakespeare includes much comic byplay between Romeo and his friends and between Juliet and her Nurse, thus enriching the texture of the play as its characters appear in diverse lights. Although most of his work was viewed as universal and phenomenal, Henry David Thoreau had less praise for Shakespeare (Wayne). I have a preference for 8 months because when I lost my job during the recession it took me that long to land a new job. You should start with a specific goal in mind such as $500 and continue saving from there. NerdWallet columnist, Liz Weston says $500 is a good place to start, will get you out of most predicaments, and usually keep you out of the hole. If you use direct deposit and automatically transfer $10 per week into a savings account, you can save $500 in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Strategy Of Airasia X Problem Statement In 2001, AirAsia was founded by Tony Fernandes. After six years, Fernandes realized the company should create a airline separated from AirAsia to focus on the low cost long haul market which he called AirAsia X. Azran Osman Rani was appointed to the become the CEO of the newly established company. The company had an initial success by being the first mover. However, there were some problems that they had to face along the way as they were in a completely new market using an untried business model. One of the main challenges for the company is the protectionist measures taken by the Malaysian government to protect the national airline, Malaysia Airlines (MAS). The other major problem is the limitations on the general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helped X to increase the seating capacity by 20 percent. X also had a flexible flight schedule as its aircraft was in the air for 16 hours per day in average, which is much higher than the industry average of 11 hours per day. SWOT Analysis AirAsia X s main strength is the low price that it offers for customers. For most airlines in the industry, it is extremely difficult to keep the price low for long haul flights as the full services offered in most airlines increase the operating costs. In addition, X also benefited from the expansive network, infrastructure and customers that AirAsia already has that enabled them to grow fast with good financial outcomes. On the other hand, X s main weakness is the technology. The website always crashes and the company doesn t have its own database of customers. X also doesn t enjoy from a strong relationship with the Malaysian Transport Ministry. This can be detrimental to the company as it finds competing with Malaysia Airlines in some profitable routes to be difficult. However, X has some opportunities. For example, in order to keep the low price ticket, cooperating with fuel companies which will offer low fuel price and increasing demand in low cost airlines will bring profits. The major threat for AirAsia X is the protectionist measures taken by the Malaysian government that prevented X from flying planes to some destinations with high demand. This would have been a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Robert Frost s Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay Identity Poem: Nothing Gold Can Stay In the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, Frost was trying to portray that the leaf first starts out in springtime. All of nature is gold and then turns into the green that is perceived by all humans. The golden flowers do not stay that color for long, as when the flowers bud they turn into a green hue. He talks about this natural process and sort of compares it to the story of the Garden of Eden. What I think he is trying to say is how beauty never stays but is always short lived. The poem sort of portrays about the human life in general and how humans see gold as money and fortune but really once that is all gone there is nothing left, no more beauty. We find so much contentment in money just as Adam and Eve were content with eating the apple but was that what makes humans or even America happy. Society Poem: Fire and Ice In the poem Fire and Ice, I feel in the beginning of two different kind of people in the world. The ones that think the world will end up in flames like hell, or those who think there will be a point in time where everything will freeze. I also notice that he could mean that this ... Anyways, this poem portrays a sense of free will and faith stating how God made this world in his image and also stating is Gods divine work made for everything on earth including the motives of a tiny spider. Humans think on the fact that while we make their own choices, there is a great power that has control over the whole universe. We like to think that there is a reason for everything. Like that there is a reason that all of this stuff that is bad is happening to me today is for a greater purpose but in the poem Design, Frost shows the other side of that idea. If God is in control of everything then that means he has his hand in all of the things we do and even the terrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Mist Review The apocalypse is a common subject addressed in films and such Doomsday scenarios have become increasingly popular since the beginning of the Cold War. These films provide a different cause for the downfall of human kind and approach the subject with various degrees of despair and hope. Despite the obvious differences in approach that different directors take, these films all serve to highlight not only the negative qualities of human kind that led to and are represented by the agent of destruction but also to highlight the strength of the survivors who keep the will to fight for their lives despite the bleak circumstances. For the most part, The Mist, adapted from a Stephen King novella, sticks closely to the archetype. The Mist, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subtle score of Mark Isham is utilized infrequently, magnifying its effect on the particular scenes it is present in. In one of the most suspenseful scenes, a volunteer ties a rope around his waist and ventures into the unknown. Darabont stays fixed in the store and lets the pull on the rope tell the story, creating great suspense. When the monsters do reveal themselves, the CGI work is seamless and properly horrifying. The question of where they come from or why they have come is never addressed even in the slightest. Darabont s focus is always squarely on the humans, who quickly splinter into competing factions reflecting their own racial, class and educational prejudices. The Mist is as misanthropic as it can get. As most good monster movies, this movie is not about the monsters. The monsters are simply primal fears materialized. The main focus is really the human reaction to the threat. The mist works as a fog of fear, and the store becomes a sample of most kinds of humans from highly educated to low level working class. The fog becomes the unknown which is unknown to all walks of life. The Mist shows human nature at it worst in a crisis. Xenophobia of the out of towners , disbelief, lack of faith, egotism, paranoia, fundamentalism, bias, an us versus them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
