The Cask Of Amontillado, By Edgar Allen Poe And Young...
Literature about Evil
The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the short stories The
Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe and Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel
Hawthorne. Specifically it will discuss the phenomenon of evil in the human heart as it
appears in these two works. Evil lives in everyone, whether they want to acknowledge it
or not. These two chilling tales show two different sides of evil, but they both illustrate
how evil can corrupt a person right down to their very heart and soul.
The narrator, Montresor, in The Cask of Amontilladois so evil in his heart that he must
gain revenge over his adversary at all costs. His family motto is Nemo me impune
lacessit [No one assails me with impunity], and he feels his friend Fortunato has
somehow insulted this honor, and so he seeks the ultimate revenge. He walls his friend
up inside a cellar and leaves him there to die. Clearly, the narrator is insane, and that is a
commonality between these two stories. Both the protagonists are insane or mad, for
whatever reason. Goodman Brown goes mad in the forest when he believes he has
encountered the devil, and the reader never knows what sets Montresor off, except it is
some kind of insult. The authors are very skillful in making both these men quite
unsympathetic characters, and that heightens the sense of evil surrounding them both.
Montresor may seem to be the more evil in nature, but Goodman Brown has his own
issues of evil to
Aboriginal Art As A Central Part Of Aboriginal Life
Art is a central part of Aboriginal life and is intrinsically connected to land, law,
traditions, culture, education and religious belief. However, Aboriginal art in
contemporary society has an increasingly social and political dimension. Narritjin

Maymuru s people lived a nomadic lifestyle, which is contrary to the central importance
of Manggalili culture to land and country . Thus his art serves to merge their nomadic
lifestyle to their clan s strong belief in connection to the land. His practice was primarily
painting on bark. This medium easily transported across the vast distances necessary to
maintain a nomadic lifestyle. Maymuru s work tells of the movements of the ancestral
beings, especially the Guwak who travel with Marrngu to create lagoons and sand dunes
of Maymuru s homelands. In order to portray these lengthy narratives he divided his
barks into schematic panels. Maymuru s paintings are best known for their complex
meaning and symbolism in which he used motifs such as crosses to represent his
ancestors stories and connection to land. Maymuru saw art as a method to communicate
ideas and knowledge to an audience outside his community so to widen understanding of
Yolngu culture and to also educate the younger generations of Yolngu (The Yolngu are
the indigenous Australian in North Eastern Arnhem Land). In this way, Maymuru was
ensuring the continuity of Yolngu ancestral law through his artworks. Furthermore, the
subject matter of Nyapililngu Ancestors at Djarrakpi is typical of traditional indigenous
artworks, as Maymuru depicts the spiritual landscape of his homeland Djarrakpi, the
Manggalili clan domain on Cape Shield in Blue Mud Bay. In indigenous culture, the land

Congenital Heart Defects
Congenital abnormalities have become the main cause of heart disease among children
especially in developing countries including Palestine state. Congenital heart disease is
the most frequent form of congenital anomaly in newborn infants, and accounts for more
than a quarter of all serious congenital anomalies worldwide. Generally, an estimated
incidence of eight cases of congenital heartdisease per 1000 live births is internationally
accepted as the best approximation. The causes of most congenital heart defects are not
known. (Zaqout, Aslem, Oweida, Al Kahlout, Al Barqouni, and De Wolf, 2013) About 3
million fetuses and infants are born each year with major congenital anomaly worldwide.

Saddle Thrombus Research Paper
In most cases, if you were to tell a client that their cat has a paralysis inducing spinal
cord disease they would be rather confused. Let me break that down for you; paralysis
is a loss of voluntary movement in the animal. The spinal cord clearly has to do with
the back, and a disease is something that causes the body to not be one hundred percent
healthy. Saddle Thrombus is a form of a paralysis inducing spinal corddisease that is
found in cats. Saddle thrombus can come on with no warning. It causes them to be in
extreme pain and will become paralyzed. Some symptoms of this disease are crying,
hiding and panting. Saddle thrombus is a blood clot that is in the middle of main
arteries. The pain itself can cause the pet to have heart
Large Events Of Philadelphia
Liabilities of Large Events
Philadelphia consistently ranks among one of the most popular cities in the United
States, both in terms of visitation and in terms of global recognition. This ranking is
driven by prominent events in the past, and 2016 will be no different. Events such as the
papal visit and the democratic nomination convention will inevitably influence
Philadelphia s economy, and it has long been an accepted notion that these events cause a
positive impact. However, recent studies have begun to erode this misconception. The
disastrous papal visit proved the economic harm of large scale events, and in events such
as the upcoming Democratic national convention, Philadelphia shouldn t expect any
significant economic windfall. The large influx of tourists coming to city for large
events repels local citizens who consume from local businesses, resulting in local
businesses being forced to fall behind schedule.
The Papal visit was projected to generate 400 million dollars for the city, but instead
exemplifies the way in which super events can go awry (Debree 2). Pope Francis
visited the city of Philadelphia from September 26th through the 27th, and predictably
paranoia ensued. Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the city for the opportunity
to watch the pope speak. The damage was assessed weeks later. City controller Alan
Butkovitz published an analysis in October of 2015 detailing the Papal visit s economic
impact and his conclusions were undeniably grim.

multiple attempts to contact the man the door was forced open, and there in the center
of the room at the foot of the lectern the man had lain a knife in hand, his head nowhere

Essay On Consideration In Contract Formation
Consideration in contract formation Top of Form Consideration is essential to the
formation of any contract made without deed. It distinguishes a bargain or contract
from a gift. Lush J in the case of Currie v Misa (1875) referred consideration consist of
a benefit to the promisor or a detriment to the promisee as: Some right, interest, profit
or benefit accruing to one party, or some forbearance, detriment, loss or responsibility
given, suffered or undertaken by other . Lord Dunedin in Dunlop v Selfridge (1915)
defined consideration as: An act or forbearance of one party, or the promise thereof, is
the price for which the promise of the other is bought, and the promise thus given for...

The learned trial judge accepted her evidence, but held that the agreement is void due
to inadequacy of consideration. However, on appeal the Federal Court held that by
virtue of explanation 2 to Section 26 of Contracts Act 1950, there was adequate
consideration as being no evidence of misrepresentation or fraud. The appellant was
therefore entitled to the declaration sought by her. 2. Past Consideration Is Valid
Consideration If one party voluntarily performs an act before the promise was made,
the consideration for the promise is said to be in the past. Generally, English law does
not recognise past consideration. If something is done in the business context and it was
understood that both parties that it would be paid off, then past consideration is valid. In
Re McArdle (1951), after the death of the mother, five children inherited the house. One
of the daughters in law paid for some home improvements. Later, the other four children
signed a document that promised to pay her ВЈ488 for the work, in consideration of
carrying out improvements to the property. However, the others refused to pay and the
Court of Appeal held that the promise was unenforceable as all the work had been
done before the promise made, was therefore a past consideration. At the promisor s
request to provide goods and services previously, then promise made after the provision
of goods will be binding. It applied to the case Lampleigh v Braithwait (1615).
Black Woman Dating Research Paper
Most of you will agree that race of a person plays a vital role in selecting a dating
partner. If you have a cursory look at the dating sites operating around the world, you
will notice that dedicated sites are available for specified ethnicity, like white men dating
Black women or Asian women dating Black men etc. This only confirms that people are
choosy about the racebefore choosing a dating partner. Such dedicated match making
sites make the search of a dater easier to browse only a particular site and get his wish

It also goes that that the Asian men are generally unmoved and understands his
struggles as an Asian soul and difficulty in conforming to the standards of other races
particularly whites. This gives him an opportunity to look at other races like Black
and Latino. It is also generally felt that Black women are more vocal and authoritative
in nature. This kind Black women s image has been made to be believed by the media,
films and TV shows. In the case of Black women, most feel that they could not submit
themselves to the white supremacy and while looking out for daters feel that Asians are
relatively better than whites and Blacks. Most Black women consider an Asian man are
loyal to the woman married and takes enough responsibility in running a family and
upbringing of the children. This is one of the causes of attraction between Asians and
Blacks. If you talk to some of the Black women who have married Asian men, you will
hear them calling their Asian husband Cute and appreciate that there are some basic
cultural backgrounds in both their races. Asian men are appreciated for their mental
masculinity rather than physical masculinity and their unending love towards familial
responsibility. Race is only one of the elements that people have on their list of things in
a dating partner and these multi ethnic couples would increase in the years to come, as
evolutionary reasons would make them look more
Sappho s Analysis
In valuing the importance of the historical past, critics often tend to separate the past
from the present, when in fact the present relies so much on history. Contemporary
critics tend to frame the past as a unique site of need, as if it were not motivated by the
present. When looking at historical works, critics disregard the pain of the gay culture
and focus on the means of securing a more positive identity of the present. At the same
time, such acts of resolve allow us to ignore the resistance of queer historical figures to
our advances toward them (34). For example, in one of Sappho s lyrics, she promises her
readers that someone will remember us but follows that line with I say, attesting to the
poem s longing and uncertainty regarding

The Liberating Destroyer (Question 2) In both Kate Chopin s The Awakening and Jon
Krakauer s Into the Wild, nature is paradoxically symbolized as both a liberator and a
destroyer intellectual maturation and hubris through the awakenings of Edna Pontellier
and Chris McCandless. The ocean, represented in Chopin s novel, underscores liberation
through nonconformity and independence, but also destruction through its solitude and
waves of uncontrollable power. For instance, when Edna embarks on a boat excursion to
the ChГЄniГЁre Caminada for mass, Chopin reveals that Edna felt as if she were
being borne away from some anchorage which had held her fast, whose chains had
been loosening...leaving her free to drift whithersoever she chose to set her sails
(Chopin 34). Thus, Edna s first outing away from the Grand Isle serves to awaken her
in the sense of sailing away from the limitations of societal norms in which she feels
trapped. This is further underscored through Chopin s symbolic use of an anchor, as it
represents the heavy weight of which Edna feels burdened by societal customs. In
addition, Edna reveals to Robert that she has been seeing the waves and the white
beach of Grand Isle (Chopin 100) while he was away in Mexico. Waves are often
associated with uncontrolled activity; as such, the ones of which Edna speaks of may
symbolize that her rebellion against

Latin American Revolution Thesis
When you think of a revolution that was the most impactful what do you think of? Most
people would think of the French Revolution or maybe the American Revolution. But
most people wouldn t think of the Latin American Revolution. The Latin American
Revolution is overlooked by most of society when in reality it is one of the most
important revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries. And most importantly, the
revolution showed Latin Americans that their voices could be heard and they had a say
in the major aspects of their lives. When a revolution starts, it takes a large group of
people who passionately want change and they have to be willing to risk their lives. The
passion needed for a revolution was the passion the Latin Americans had. In
The Game Of Golf Vs. Golf
As Rickie Fowler once wisely said, All you can do is really the prep work and make sure
you re ready to hit each golf shot. Outside of that, you re not sure really what s going
to happen. It s a funny game, but I think that s why I love it. You never know, one day
to the next; you could go shoot 62, and the next day you re going to shoot 78, and you
can t predict it. The game of golfis one of the most challenging games offered today. It s
interesting that so many amateur golfers, when they think of improving their games,
think of only one thing: improving their golf swing. Certainly, it s great to develop a
technically sound golf swing and to hit the ball higher, longer, and straighter.
However, the golfer who accomplishes this has improved only part of what is needed
in order to become a complete player. The other half of the game is psychological; golf
is one of many sports that requires mental toughness. One way to achieve mental
toughness is to have a rigorous process leading up to your shot. There is a procedure
that needs to be followed before hitting every single shot on the course, especially when
attempting to hit an approach shot. Follow these six steps to properly be prepared to
execute the best golf swing possible.
1.Evaluate the lie of the ball
Walk up to the golf ball and observe the surface it is lying upon. Determine whether the
ball is lying on an uphill, downhill, or sidehill. Next, examine the surface the ball is lying
on. Conclude whether

A major point to bear in mind with the way is that the airlines/handling agents are also

Airlines and handling agents know of new flight information and if both parties have the

Describe own special educational philosophy in terms of its metaphysics,

education is teaching children who have special needs, which can interfere with their

an extension of services in helping all children learn. Learning is a process through
which we increase our knowledge as a result of the experiences in our lives. We learn

A dream vision is a widely utilised literary device that provides an author with an
avenue to explore the intricacies of the subconscious mind that effectively allows for its
narrator to overcome some obstacle that seemed to be insurmountable prior to entering
into the dream. In other words, the dream vision acts as an allegoric representation of
the subject s waking life and, in moving through the dream, is able to overcome the
hurdle that lay before him previously. As a result, although being faced with a
philosophical or moral dilemma, the narrator of a dream vision gains the ability to move
on and conquer their ailments. This connotes the idea that there may not only be
character development, but also a complete overhaul on their... Show more content on

There is overwhelming evidence that the Book of the Duchess was written as a
commemorative poem to honour the death of the wife of one of Chaucer s patrons. As
such, the poem was written as an occasional poem, dedicated to the tragic early death of
the Blanche of Lancaster, the wife of the duke of Lancaster John of Gaunt, who was left
grieving over his loss (Palmer 255). The poem was Chaucer s poetic response to a
problem that confronted him following the death of his patron s wife. Faced with the
task of comforting her grieving husband, yet unable to assume the appearance of
superior emotional wisdom, Chaucer worked obliquely by manipulating the narrative
style he inherited from French and Spanish dream vision literature into a suitable
memorialisation of Blanche and Gaunt s love for her (Bahr, 43). This is made
apparent by the famous punning lines that identify the subjects of the poem: A long
castel with walles white, / Be seynt Johan! on a ryche hil (1318 19). The first line
identifies Blanche of Lancaster for Lancaster or long castel was her title which her
husband assumed, and the second line suggests John of Richmond or ryche hil , which
was Gaunt s own title (Palmer 255). The idea that the character of the Black Knight and

range of language disorders present in some survivors of strokes, and current research
is implying that its presence in the body may bring consciousness to people in
vegetative states (Interlandi, 2011). However, there are several negative effects such as
uncomfortable side effects, withdrawal symptoms if dependency on the drug occurs,
dangerously impaired driving ability the day after dosage and it is an effective, legal and
easily obtainable date rape drug (Monti et al., 1994).... Show more content on

The confusion stems from its paradoxical effect of being a hypnotic sedative in people
with normal brain functions yet can increase speech ability in patients recovering from
severe brain trauma, which seems contrary (Clauss and Nel, 2006). In a specific test
patient, Hall et al. (2009) reported that the technology used to measure effectiveness of
treatment with zolpidem demonstrated high amplitude theta and beta oscillations thin
the peri infarct region reducing in activity, improving cognitive and motor function. In
another patient who suffered a stroke three years prior, the first prescribed dosage of
10mg of zolpidem caused a dramatic improvement in her speech, an improvement which
relapsed the following morning until the next dosage of zolpidem was taken (Engl and
Med, 2004). Whyte and Myers (2009) describe that zolpidem is also being studied to
determine whether it has the ability to improve responsiveness or regional cerebral
perfusion in patients in vegetative states. It has been reported to restore, albeit
temporarily, consciousness to such patients and repeated dosage maintains consciousness

Visual Illusions Of Ted Talk
Synopsis Al Seckal, who is a cognitive neuroscientist, did a Ted talk, Visual illusions
that show how we (mis)think, in 2004 to investigate the visual illusions that are able
to fool our brains. In this TED talk, he explains how eye tricks uncover how the brain
is able to process visual information. He further shows that we actually kind of like to
be tricked, and how illusions bring us happiness, and he tries to give the viewers
happiness through the illusions as well, You look at those sort of illusions in my book
and it s not as what you d expect. And there s something joyful about it. And it s the
same thing with jokes and all these sorts of things. So, what I m going to try and do in
my lecture is go a little bit further and see if I can violate your expectations in a
pleasing way. I mean, sometimes expectations that are violated are not pleasant, but I
m going to try to do it in a pleasant way, in a very primal way, so I can make the
audience here happy (Seckel, 2004). Moreover, he shows ways in which we can
violate our expectations and he shows different perceptual tricks, And we can violate
your expectations in a whole variety of ways about representation, about shape, about
colour and so forth and it s very primal (Seckel, 2004). Textual Connections The TED
talk and the textbook had a lot of overlap of concepts. In the Ted Talk, Al Seckel
mentions how visual illusions are not only cool to look at, however they bring us
happiness. As he says here, And it s

  • 2. The Cask Of Amontillado, By Edgar Allen Poe And Young... Literature about Evil The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the short stories The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe and Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Specifically it will discuss the phenomenon of evil in the human heart as it appears in these two works. Evil lives in everyone, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. These two chilling tales show two different sides of evil, but they both illustrate how evil can corrupt a person right down to their very heart and soul. The narrator, Montresor, in The Cask of Amontilladois so evil in his heart that he must gain revenge over his adversary at all costs. His family motto is Nemo me impune lacessit [No one assails me with impunity], and he feels his friend Fortunato has somehow insulted this honor, and so he seeks the ultimate revenge. He walls his friend up inside a cellar and leaves him there to die. Clearly, the narrator is insane, and that is a commonality between these two stories. Both the protagonists are insane or mad, for whatever reason. Goodman Brown goes mad in the forest when he believes he has encountered the devil, and the reader never knows what sets Montresor off, except it is some kind of insult. The authors are very skillful in making both these men quite unsympathetic characters, and that heightens the sense of evil surrounding them both. Montresor may seem to be the more evil in nature, but Goodman Brown has his own issues of evil to
  • 3. Aboriginal Art As A Central Part Of Aboriginal Life Art is a central part of Aboriginal life and is intrinsically connected to land, law, traditions, culture, education and religious belief. However, Aboriginal art in contemporary society has an increasingly social and political dimension. Narritjin Maymuru is an example of an indigenous artist using traditional practices. Maymuru s 1978 artwork Nyapililngu Ancestors at Djarrakpi depicts the creation stories of his homeland, Djarrakpi, demonstrating the influence of his indigenous spirituality in his work. Fiona Foley is an example of an indigenous artist who uses post modern practice in her film Bliss (2006). In keeping with the post modern tradition, Foley has used contemporary art making practices to express political issues facing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maymuru s people lived a nomadic lifestyle, which is contrary to the central importance of Manggalili culture to land and country . Thus his art serves to merge their nomadic lifestyle to their clan s strong belief in connection to the land. His practice was primarily painting on bark. This medium easily transported across the vast distances necessary to maintain a nomadic lifestyle. Maymuru s work tells of the movements of the ancestral beings, especially the Guwak who travel with Marrngu to create lagoons and sand dunes of Maymuru s homelands. In order to portray these lengthy narratives he divided his barks into schematic panels. Maymuru s paintings are best known for their complex meaning and symbolism in which he used motifs such as crosses to represent his ancestors stories and connection to land. Maymuru saw art as a method to communicate ideas and knowledge to an audience outside his community so to widen understanding of Yolngu culture and to also educate the younger generations of Yolngu (The Yolngu are the indigenous Australian in North Eastern Arnhem Land). In this way, Maymuru was ensuring the continuity of Yolngu ancestral law through his artworks. Furthermore, the subject matter of Nyapililngu Ancestors at Djarrakpi is typical of traditional indigenous artworks, as Maymuru depicts the spiritual landscape of his homeland Djarrakpi, the Manggalili clan domain on Cape Shield in Blue Mud Bay. In indigenous culture, the land is

Saddle Thrombus is a form of a paralysis inducing spinal corddisease that is found in cats. Saddle thrombus can come on with no warning. Large Events Of Philadelphia Liabilities of Large Events Philadelphia consistently ranks among one of the most popular cities in the United States, both in terms of visitation and in terms of global recognition. This ranking is driven by prominent events in the past, and 2016 will be no different. Events such as the papal visit and the democratic nomination convention will inevitably influence Philadelphia s economy, and it has long been an accepted notion that these events cause a positive impact. However, recent studies have begun to erode this misconception. The disastrous papal visit proved the economic harm of large scale events, and in events such as the upcoming Democratic national convention, Philadelphia shouldn t expect any significant economic windfall. The large influx of tourists coming to city for large events repels local citizens who consume from local businesses, resulting in local businesses being forced to fall behind schedule. The Papal visit was projected to generate 400 million dollars for the city, but instead exemplifies the way in which super events can go awry (Debree 2). Pope Francis visited the city of Philadelphia from September 26th through the 27th, and predictably paranoia ensued. Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the city for the opportunity to watch the pope speak. The damage was assessed weeks later. City controller Alan Butkovitz published an analysis in October of 2015 detailing the Papal visit s economic impact and his conclusions were undeniably grim.

However, on appeal the Federal Court held that by virtue of explanation 2 to Section 26 of Contracts Act 1950, there was adequate consideration as being no evidence of misrepresentation or fraud. The appellant was therefore entitled to the declaration sought by her. 2. Past Consideration Is Valid Consideration If one party voluntarily performs an act before the promise was made, the consideration for the promise is said to be in the past. Generally, English law does not recognise past consideration. If something is done in the business context and it was understood that both parties that it would be paid off, then past consideration is valid. In Re McArdle (1951), after the death of the mother, five children inherited the house. One of the daughters in law paid for some home improvements. Later, the other four children signed a document that promised to pay her ВЈ488 for the work, in consideration of carrying out improvements to the property. However, the others refused to pay and the Court of Appeal held that the promise was unenforceable as all the work had been done before the promise made, was therefore a past consideration. At the promisor s request to provide goods and services previously, then promise made after the provision of goods will be binding. It applied to the case Lampleigh v Braithwait (1615).

  • 11. Sappho s Analysis In valuing the importance of the historical past, critics often tend to separate the past from the present, when in fact the present relies so much on history. Contemporary critics tend to frame the past as a unique site of need, as if it were not motivated by the present. When looking at historical works, critics disregard the pain of the gay culture and focus on the means of securing a more positive identity of the present. At the same time, such acts of resolve allow us to ignore the resistance of queer historical figures to our advances toward them (34). For example, in one of Sappho s lyrics, she promises her readers that someone will remember us but follows that line with I say, attesting to the poem s longing and uncertainty regarding

Nabeela Mian Mrs. Cohen American Literature, E Block September 8, 2014 Of Nature, The Liberating Destroyer (Question 2) In both Kate Chopin s The Awakening and Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild, nature is paradoxically symbolized as both a liberator and a destroyer intellectual maturation and hubris through the awakenings of Edna Pontellier and Chris McCandless. The ocean, represented in Chopin s novel, underscores liberation through nonconformity and independence, but also destruction through its solitude and waves of uncontrollable power. For instance, when Edna embarks on a boat excursion to the ChГЄniГЁre Caminada for mass, Chopin reveals that Edna felt as if she were being borne away from some anchorage which had held her fast, whose chains had been loosening...leaving her free to drift whithersoever she chose to set her sails (Chopin 34). Thus, Edna s first outing away from the Grand Isle serves to awaken her in the sense of sailing away from the limitations of societal norms in which she feels trapped. This is further underscored through Chopin s symbolic use of an anchor, as it represents the heavy weight of which Edna feels burdened by societal customs. In addition, Edna reveals to Robert that she has been seeing the waves and the white beach of Grand Isle (Chopin 100) while he was away in Mexico. Waves are often associated with uncontrolled activity; as such, the ones of which Edna speaks of may symbolize that her rebellion against

Outside of that, you re not sure really what s going to happen. It s a funny game, but I think that s why I love it. You never know, one day to the next; you could go shoot 62, and the next day you re going to shoot 78, and you can t predict it. The game of golfis one of the most challenging games offered today. It s interesting that so many amateur golfers, when they think of improving their games, think of only one thing: improving their golf swing. Certainly, it s great to develop a technically sound golf swing and to hit the ball higher, longer, and straighter. However, the golfer who accomplishes this has improved only part of what is needed in order to become a complete player. The other half of the game is psychological; golf is one of many sports that requires mental toughness. One way to achieve mental toughness is to have a rigorous process leading up to your shot. There is a procedure that needs to be followed before hitting every single shot on the course, especially when attempting to hit an approach shot. Follow these six steps to properly be prepared to execute the best golf swing possible. 1.Evaluate the lie of the ball Walk up to the golf ball and observe the surface it is lying upon. Determine whether the ball is lying on an uphill, downhill, or sidehill. Next, examine the surface the ball is lying on. Conclude whether

My Philosophy of Special Education is that special education is teaching children who have special needs, which can interfere with their learning abilities. Learning is a process through which we increase our knowledge as a result of the experiences in our lives. We learn through what we are exposed to and what we try to imitate. But, someone who has negative experience while trying to skate for the first time will not develop any structures related to skating. Essentially, if a teacher is going to be successful and learning is going to take place, positive structures should be developed. A good way to develop these structures would be to follow Mamary s four principles for a quality classroom: 1.Classrooms in which fear of failure does not exist. 2.Classrooms in which fear of rejection does not exist. 3.Classrooms in which all uncaring practices are removed. 4.Classrooms in which mindless activities do not exist. If fear of failure does not exist, students will be more persistent and willing to discover things for themselves. And, as I said earlier, a very important part of learning is discovering. Students who don t feel rejected will be more outgoing and not afraid to ask questions. When students don t feel comfortable in their environment, they withdraw from the situation and shut down. On the other hand, if they feel comfortable in their environment, they participate in class discussions and associate learning with a positive structure. If the students know the teacher cares about them, they will be more apt to do their best, if not for themselves, to impress the teacher. And the end result is likely that they will decide that they love

A dream vision is a widely utilised literary device that provides an author with an avenue to explore the intricacies of the subconscious mind that effectively allows for its narrator to overcome some obstacle that seemed to be insurmountable prior to entering into the dream. In other words, the dream vision acts as an allegoric representation of the subject s waking life and, in moving through the dream, is able to overcome the hurdle that lay before him previously. As a result, although being faced with a philosophical or moral dilemma, the narrator of a dream vision gains the ability to move on and conquer their ailments. There is overwhelming evidence that the Book of the Duchess was written as a commemorative poem to honour the death of the wife of one of Chaucer s patrons. As such, the poem was written as an occasional poem, dedicated to the tragic early death of the Blanche of Lancaster, the wife of the duke of Lancaster John of Gaunt, who was left grieving over his loss (Palmer 255). The poem was Chaucer s poetic response to a problem that confronted him following the death of his patron s wife. Faced with the task of comforting her grieving husband, yet unable to assume the appearance of superior emotional wisdom, Chaucer worked obliquely by manipulating the narrative style he inherited from French and Spanish dream vision literature into a suitable memorialisation of Blanche and Gaunt s love for her (Bahr, 43). This is made apparent by the famous punning lines that identify the subjects of the poem: A long castel with walles white, / Be seynt Johan! on a ryche hil (1318 19). The first line identifies Blanche of Lancaster for Lancaster or long castel was her title which her husband assumed, and the second line suggests John of Richmond or ryche hil , which was Gaunt s own title (Palmer 255).
