How Did Joseph Rotblat Cause Mass Destruction
Joseph Rotblat was a polish physicist that helped create the first atomic bomb in the 1940s. The first
test explosion of a hydrogen bomb was done by the USA in 1952, the year that Britain exploded its
first test atomic bomb. The Soviet Union exploded its first hydrogen bomb in 1953. In the 1950s by
the end of world war Ⅱ the united states decided to launch the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Nagasaki.
Joseph Rotblat then devoted his life on the banning the usage of nuclear weapons and testing. Rotblat
does this by joining groups like the pugwash conference on science and world affairs and also having
a part in the Russell einstein manifesto. Rotblat did this because he did not want his own work to
cause mass destruction but to help create peace.

Suspended Basement Ceiling
One of the most important things to consider when remodeling your basement is the basement ceiling.
People find basement ceilings a bit hideous and if you are of the same opinion, then you need to do
something about it. Most people want their basement to be warm and cozy, instead of that desolate
look often acquainted with an unfinished basement. There are different basement ceiling ideas to make
your ceiling a place that you want it to be. Basement ceilings may either be dry walled or suspended.
You can choose which kind to install but always remember to add decorative touches in order to make
them look exactly like any other rooms in your home.

Suspended basement ceilings are commercial in nature but there are

Team Training Essay
After I examining your training records it s evident that you re extremely smart. You dominated your
end of course exam with a 92% to become a 5 level as an Aircraft Structural Maintainer. However,
looking at your hands on training completion date I began to question if you truly understood the
material. I also questioned if you received the proper training. Unlike the average completion dates I
ve seen in the past, you completed your 5 level tasks in roughly 16 months versus the norm of 8 10
months. On the contrary, my perception of how you affected the team dynamic in the shop was that of
an executor. Whenever tasks were brought to your attention, you were always overly anxious to
execute the plan in a timely manner and identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why did I recommend this specific additional duty to you? The reason I am recommending this
additional duty to you is because I sincerely believe you will excel in this position. This program
requires a very specific structure and the responsibility it carries is very is significant. Handling
chemicals with the right personal protective equipment is crucial to the safety of the personnel in your
section. Based on your team role as an executor, I think you would soar in this additional duty because
of your ability to follow specific regulations and your high standards. You ve always been quick to say
No when members wanted you to do a task that wasn t justified by technical data. I foresee you having
zero issues ensuring the chemicals that are used continuously are labelled correctly and cleaned before
and after use. Which is an issue we both have seen continuously occur over the past few months. It
seems like every few weeks the shop acquires a Quality Assurance (QA) fail for improper storage of
HAZ material. As aggravating as that can get, if you fill the HAZ Material and Waste position it will
allow you to flex your cognitive preference as an adaptor. In doing so, you will be able to make
improvements to the program in areas you deem fit based on AFIs, Safety Data Sheets (SDS),

Exposition In The Poem By Langston Hughes
. The exposition in any story or poem is the beginning, probably the first paragraph that lays out basic
information on what the author will talk about. It introduces the characters, time, in this place and the
setting of the piece of art. In this poem life is fine by Langston Hughes, the exposition begins when
the author goes to the riverbank to think but he could not concentrate.
This makes him attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river. He sank upon jumping.
2. I suppose the speaker sank to the bottom instead of swimming to the top because he was very
determined to commit suicide. This is highlighted in the first stanza particularly in these two
sentences. I tried to think but couldn t, so I jumped in and sank . However his ... Show more content

It also shows the turning point of events. We all thought the speaker would die after attempting to
commit suicide twice but at the end he survives and embraces a new meaning of life.
5. The falling action of the poem is when the speaker does not die and decides that since the attempts
to commit suicide were futile, he will continue living and embrace life. So since am still here livin ,I
guess I will live on . He points out that loss of love pushed him to the edge of attempting to commit
suicide but it also gives him a new meaning of life and understands his sense of purpose. I think this is
the falling action since it shows how the character go back to accepting his life the way it was before
the thoughts of committing suicide occupied his mind.
He recognizes that life is sacred and it should not be given up despite the hard situations that people
go through in life. The poem addresses a scenario where people result to death as a way of
overcoming their problems.
6. Denouement shows the characters going back to the normal life they led before the conflict
occurred. The speaker comes to realize how life is consecrated that he even acclaims that life is fine.
Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine! I think the speaker was happy to be alive because
Surname3 he seems to have a renewed desire to live. The speaker expresses his views on the beauty of
existence. At the end of the poem

Alzheimer s Disease Essay 7
Alzheimer s Disease SOC 313 Katherine Malish February 7, 2011 Alzheimer s Disease Alzheimer s
disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills.
Its onset is generally insidious, with gradual deterioration of cognitive function, eventually resulting
death. (Falvo, D. 2009, pg. 226). Alzheimer s is the most common form of dementia among people
age 65 and older. Nearly 70 percentages of all dementias are Alzheimer s, and over 4.5 million
Americans have Alzheimer s. (www.alz.org). This disease is not just a disease that happens to older
people, but there is a small percentage that can also affect those in their 30s. One of the greatest risk

While caring for patients with Alzheimer s the first thing I learned was that each patient experiences
Alzheimer s differently. Each day was a new experience for me, and when caring for a patient with
Alzheimer s there s no one way to care for them. As a caregiver it is important to find effective and
simple solutions that work for you. The facility had five units that were set up by the stages of the
disease. I was assigned to unit D which was the unit for patient that suffered with moderately severe to
very severe stages of Alzheimer s. I was assigned to six to eight patients each shift. My duties were to
provide daily care such as, activities, bathing, grooming, feeding, and transporting patients to and
from bed. When caring for patients that are in the moderately or late stage of Alzheimer s you really
have to care for them as if they were a small child. When bathing a patient I learned to have all my
products ready and available to make bathing time simpler. It is very important to make sure the
bathroom is warm and that the bathroom is equip with a grab bar it helps if the patient has the urge to
hold on, and it prevents fidgeting. It s also important to use a different washcloth for bathing, and face
washing, make sure the water temperature is adjusted correctly, and also make sure the floor is
completely dry before the patient steps out of the shower. To prevent slip and

This law is written as:
A=abc (3)
Where a is the molar absorptivity, b is the path length and c is the concentration of the analyte.
Spectrophotmetry is not only confined within the boundaries of chemistry. Its principles have several
applications in different branches of science. In biochemistry, it can be used to determine enzyme
catalyzed reactions, whereas in clinical application, it is used to examine blood and tissues. This
quantitative method of analysis can also be used in engineering, physics,etc.[2]
METHODOLOGY
The experiment was initially done by preparing standard solutions of different volumes of Cu(II) stock
solution of known concentration including a blank solution composed of ammonia and water. Each
volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of
concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted
unknown Cu(II) solution. Addition of ammonia caused the formation of deeper blue copper ammonia
complex which allowed the spectrophotometer to detect the solution easily due to increase in its
absorbance. The formation of the complex is shown by the following chemical reaction:
Cu2+ + 4NH3 [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (4)
A deficiency in ammonia in the solution would cause the copper ammonia complex to turn into its
hydrated form which would eventually alter the accuracy of the data obtained because of its

twenty, thirty special effects shots to films that have over 800 special effects shots in them and more
and more you know you re seeing not just rear the films are using the technology but they are using
them in huge ways. So live action films are becoming more and more computer generated (McClean
2007)
Does the narrative matter? of course it does, so why do we need the effects? the use of the effects does
not mean that the narrative of a film is weak, the effects just supports and makes the narrative more
effective, once you have a good story in your head seeing it on a screen makes a whole different
perspective and therefore the audience reacts depending on how they can see it and how much they
believe it. Special effects are just a tool, a means of telling a story. People have a tendency to confuse
them as an end to themselves. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing (Schickel 1983)
An example of such would be the movie Life of Pi , a film that was created using visual effects and
special effects to the point of winning oscars for such, if we think about it, I would hardly believe that
if the film was filmed in a back garden or in a outdoor/indoor swimming pool with a small boat and a
man dressed up in a tiger costume would have been as successful as it was.

Strategy formation at Disney under Michael Eisner
Walt Disney was a real visionary in term of animations. He developed his capability to select new
ways to invent special cartoons, with a Disney s prestige that was going to be the most famous brand
in terms of family entertainment. Since Walt Disney s death in 1966, The Walt Disney Company had
barely survived appropriation attempts by other corporations. Its shareholders Sid Bass and Roy E.
Disney brought on Michael Eisner and Frank Wells to maximize the company s assets. Disney

Various networks were in pursued such us CBS and Cap cities/ ABC, board members though felt that
the acquisition of Cap Cities was the best choice. The turn of events at the Herb Allen s Conference in
Sun Valley made the acquisition of ABC the next step on Eisner agenda. ABC s relationship Disney
has been in place for a while with when Leonard Goldenson back in 1953 invested sufficient money
so that the Disneyland theme park could be terminated. With this relationship in place came efforts of
cross promotion, which led to countless meetings and negations within board members as of what
would be the most beneficial option to Disney. Finally, in 1996 The Walt Disney Company acquired
Capital Cities/ABC, and renamed the broadcasting group ABC, Inc. (Eisner 2 357 371). The
acquisition of ABC increased Disney costumer audience putting them in a leading position in the
entertainment industry.
The following years Disney experience successful acquisitions and rapid growth in its assets.
Although with this period of success, Eisner became convince that he was the rightful heir to Walt
Disney. Michael Eisner began making an array of changes to Disney s governance structure and The
Walt Disney Company had come under a severe examination for its governance practices. The Board
of Directors were often criticized for a lack of independence and inside dominance. Roy Disney,

Brain Plasticity
The brain is a remarkable engine. It is so remarkable, and complex that researchers and neuroscientist
today are still discovering many fascinating wonders about the brain. Brain plasticity is an area with a
substantial amount of research. Brain plasticity is the brains ability to change and reorganize the
components of it s structures and mechanism (Mikadze, 2014). This is an extraordinary ability that the
brain has. It is even more amazing to consider how the brain does this after brain damage in stroke
patients. In order to comprehend just how wonderful brain plasticity after brain damage due to stroke
is, it is important to consider the different types of stokes, several theories, ideas and techniques that

Narrative Elements Of Horror
Almost every genre of film to date has been designed and developed to make an audience feel
satisfied or sexed up and in love or delighted or inspired or rushed with adrenaline. Horror, on the
other hand, was the first genre that preyed on the audience s deepest fears and utilized them to provide
cinema with nightmare flair. And everybody loved it.
The idea of this essay is to address the nightmarish absurdity that horror is so well known for. I will
consider the development of the genre, as well as explore the stylistic, thematic and narrative elements
of the genre; including discourse on the visuals, the symbolisms and the subject matter in addition to
any impact the genre had on the audience, and address what role said impact had in defining ... Show

The term body horror was first coined in 1986 in an issue of the film magazine Screen. The films of
this subgenre concentrate on the human body and the horror of estrangement from within. Defined,
body horror is:
Such destruction or generation of the human body can be as a result of anything from alien life forces
to genetic mutations, viruses, diseases etc. Much of this subgenre was to do with society s body
anxiety and body consciousness and also explores identity and humanity. (Class notes: Body Horror)
Though these films address such valid points, they also strive to create a swelling unease in the viewer
and an awkward discomfort the viewer s body. The intent is to provoke sickness, revulsion, and
abhorrence in the audience.
Eraserhead, without a doubt, succeeds in achieving all of the above. This film is such a significant,
sweeping example of the far reaching horror genre. Expressionism s influence on this genre is so
captivatingly portrayed in the film, to the extent that many of the shots, throughout the entire film,
look just like works of German Expressionist art.

Though the Natives were treated badly, they were soon saved by Bartolome de Las Casas, who

Tristram Shandy Analysis
In Laurence Sterne s Tristram Shandy, Toby Shandy is often characterized as naïve and innocent,
especially in references to matter of sex. Many, the readers as well as fellow characters, reason this to
be from the injury in which he received from the Battle of Namur . Through an analysis of the text and
research, I have concluded that the naïveté, innocence, and other contextual evidence associated with
Uncle Toby Shandy, actually points to Toby being a homosexual. As I mentioned before, I have
developed this theory through research, specifically a piece written by Jarred Wiehe called No Penis?
No Problem: Intersections of Queerness and Disability in Laurence Sterne s The Life and Opinions of
Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and Martin Rowson s factual evidence found from a Shandean Studies
seminar, where it was debated if Tristram Shandy should be placed within the genre of Gay Literature.
In addition, within the text the reader encounters a surplus of evidence, such as, Toby s modesty, his
ignorance of the females and sex, experiences within the military, his close companionable
relationship with Corporal Trim, the descriptions of his personality and behaviors, such as his Hobby
Horse , provided by Tristram Shandy, and the heterosexual norms and expectations of the setting/ time
period. In the beginning of the novel, I was eager to believe in the explanations that Tristram Shandy
was providing for his uncle s demure nature, such as his injury, but I soon became wary upon further
reading. The first encounter with evidence that causes doubt within the reader of Toby Shandy s true
sexual preference, was his modesty. Tristram describes it as,
More specifically, would be both the situation in which he admits of knowing next to nothing about
the female body or behaviors to his brother, Walter Shandy, and his shyness when mentioning the
affair that Aunt Dinah had. To begin, Tristram s example of Toby s embarrassment of the affair that
happened by a deceased Aunt Dinah, can make some sense if it was in reference to the scandalousness
of an affair , but Toby Shandy is more so offended by the fact that it was something sexual. Ironically,
Walter Shandy, the one who is familiar with the gender behaviors through

Analysis Of The Book In Brooklyn
In Brooklyn, the author, Colm Tóibín, tells a coming of age immigration story set in the 1950s about
Eilis Lacey, a young woman from Enniscorthy, Ireland. Eilis travels from her hometown in County
Wexford to Brooklyn, New York with the help of Father Flood and her sister, Rose. Eilis is confronted
with homesickness, love, and identity crisis throughout the story. Although Brooklyn is about Eilis s
journey, Rose plays an important role in her life. Rose is Eilis s older sister who still lives at home
with Eilis and their mother. Rose helps support them with money for food, movies, clothes and even
Eilis s schooling by working in the office of Davis s Mills. While in Brooklyn, Eilis and Rose send
letters back and forth until Rose suddenly dies in her sleep and leaves their mother all alone. Colm
Tóibín s creates Rose to be the heroic character of the novel. Initially Rose does seem manipulative
but soon proves to be a hero. In this essay I will argue that Rose is not completely manipulative, but
that she is actually a combination of both heroism and manipulation; she is a helpful person who
sometimes uses manipulation to achieve this. In the beginning of Brooklyn, Eilis gets a job as a
shopkeeper for Miss Kelly s grocery store and Rose disapproves of it. When Rose gets the opportunity
to play golf with an American priest, Father Flood, she invites him for tea. Eilis soon realizes that
Rose tacitly arranged for Father Flood to come to the house because she knew that

So, employers are using a strategy, such as monitoring to ensure productivity in the workplace.
According to the Electronic Communication Privacy Act of 1986, an employer can monitor their
employee to ensure adequate job performance and supervise customer contacts. The most common
form of an invasion, to employee privacy rights is email. With the massive use of computers, email
has become the biggest communication tool of choice in the workplace. The concern of employers has
grown tremendously with the use of email in the workplace. Employers concern is that, employees can
waste time by sending and receiving email for personal use, and they may provide easy access for
hackers to entry their computer system. Employers can monitor an employee computer activity to

So in addition to the traditional modes of supply (across the border trade, bundled in hardware, trade
through commercial presence), software products can now be converted into bits and shipped directly
over the Internet.
Distribution Model for ESD
In some ways, electronic software distribution is the same as conventional physical delivery models.
For one, the publisher, distributor and reseller all work together to provide end users with software and
customer service, while protecting the publisher s intellectual property and sales. However, the roles
and responsibilities of traditional channel partners are not identical in the online world. ESD and
electronic commerce have opened the door for new players and nontraditional roles.
There are three commonly used distribution models: Direct Distribution = Publisher End User
In direct distribution, publishers benefit by controlling the process of delivery to the end user.
Furthermore, publishers build direct relationships with their customer base. Drawbacks for the direct
model for publishers include the time required to manage the process and the difficulty of achieving
the maximum number of distribution points for their products. Single Tier Distribution = Publisher
Reseller End User
Single tier distribution was the most common model used at the onset of Internet based ESD growth.
The first ESD players in the industry considered themselves online resellers and

The investigative (Policing) arm of the CJS functions like a frontline defense for the justice system
and its main role is to enforce the law. Wimshurst a lecturer and author at Griffith University who
specializes in criminal justice refers to a range of roles that police might play within society as noted
by Bradley (1996) which are to: maintain law and order, prevent the commission of crime, detect
criminals, ensure road safety, assist in minor and major emergencies and carry out miscellaneous
duties on behalf of government departments . Despite all these job descriptions the public view of
police is rather distorted seeing them only as mere public babysitters (or crim

I Want To Become A Career In Music
Loud music blared throughout the house while everyone attempted to sleep. Yes, It was me, a
promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and selling
beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio engineers,
and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite difficult being
a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to diversify my music.
Because of my experiences with music I ve grown to have exceedingly strong traits of versatility and
commitment. I ve also become remarkably resilient to hardships. I ve made beats for popular artist

With the help of beat sales and self studying methods, I was able to secure my first studio, in which I
produced a few beats that only received a couple dozen views at a time. A few years later, after
constant study, struggle and perseverance, through self doubt and peer pressure, I was able to become
an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube channels and over a million
views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me for future development. During
school, I always receive notifications from. different people asking for a unique beat or to license one
that they took interest in. I fell in love with making beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a
career that could further develop my skills. My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of
the best producers, even if it takes a long time. This dedication allowed me to not only be committed
to my music, but also, to everything I do. This devotion also caused me to become a tenacious
individual that doesn t let any obstacle interfere with my goals
Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. I was facing peer pressure, the weird
change in environment, and basically every other typical problem a freshman faced. When I told
people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my dreams.
However, I refused to let go of my passion for making beats and continued to strive for my goal,

Sugarcane ( Saccharum Spp )
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.), a C4 photosynthetic plant, is a perennial grass that is cultivated in
tropical, and subtropical regions of the world for its ability to store high concentrations of sucrose in
the stem. Recently it is also gaining importance as an efficient feedstock for lignocellulosic ethanol in
converting energy from sunlight into chemical energy that is usable as a biofuel source. Recognition
of sugarcane as an important energy crop was recently heightened by the advent of large scale
sugarcane based ethanol production in Brazil. The strong association of lignin with cellulose and hemi

Pure Intuition, By Immanuel Kant
Math, to Kant is synthetic because mathematical knowledge requires is true more than just definition.
All bachelors are unmarried is analytic; the bachelor down the street is untidy is synthetic. This may
seem odd; 1+2 = 3 seems to be analytic, as 2 is the sum of 1 and 1 by definition. Nevertheless this is
illusory, according to Kant, because this is already a solved equation. When we look at an unsolved
equation, we are presented with a problem. Take, for example 1+2 alone. We do not know what the
sum of 1 and 2 are, just that their sum constitutes a number. We then must solve the equation using our
intuition, or capacity to reason to come upon the answer, 3. The answer to the equation is not initially
contained in the equation in question. If it were, then there would be no ... Show more content on

This may seem peculiar at first, as Kant previously defines intuition as sense perception. How, one
may ask, could one perceive without sensation? Kant explains that sensory intuition helps us visualise
physical objects, while pure intuition helps us visualise abstractions this means we are capable of
visualisation objects before their actual experience. Although this may seem peculiar, this, Kant
explains, is because when we intuit something, we only intuit our own perceptions: we cannot
comprehend things in themselves, or what he called in Critique of Pure Reason noumena . Otherwise,
all our intuitions would be empirical, and such pure mathematics would not be possible: we could
simply see things as they really are, and we would not resort to abstracting relationships between
concepts as we do in mathematics. What we perceive are our own understandings and ideas of objects;
to understand them as they really are is not just impossible, but we could not even comprehend what it

Because of the increase in the use of the Internet, this information media has become one of the most

On the one hand, if we are in the point of view of the newspaper, we save more because we do not use
any kind of paper neither ink, nor machinery so our costs are minimum. Another good fact, that has
online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted, without
waiting until the next day.
But for people the most important one is that the newspapers are usually free in the
Internet that is why there are more online readers day by day.
Whereas, on the other hand, even though there are not so many bad things we find two of them that
are the most important. The first one is that as online newspapers are free for the readers the company
that manages the newspaper does not win as much as it should before, so the need more publicity. The
other one is that as we said before most of them are free but there are also some those if you want to

God s Faithfulness in the Old Testament Essay
Every author depicts information in light of purposes and themes. Sometimes these themes are moral
issues, emotions, or existential concepts. In the case of the Old Testament, the authors wrote books
that highlighted various ideas such as love, obedience, and suffering. Despite various subtopics, the
Old Testament clearly demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. To begin with,
God s faithfulness is displayed in the Pentateuch. One example is found in the opening chapters of
Genesis. Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed his command, God does not let sin prevent him from
being faithful. Instead, God enters the garden and asks the couple, Where are you? (Genesis 3:9) This
example displays the theme that God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without devotion to God, violence and death would flourish in Israel. These factors would impede
God s blessings of security and life; thus, the Mosaic covenant demonstrates the continual faithfulness
of God in the Old Testament. Finally, God is faithful to Israel during the people s complaints in the
desert. Rather than abandoning the nation for its faithlessness, God provides them will nourishment
and protection during their journey. These acts further reinforce the faithfulness of God, even when his
followers stray. In all, the Pentateuch demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness. In addition to the
Pentateuch, the Old Testament books of the Deuteronomistic history reveal the theme of God s
faithfulness to his followers. Initial examples are found in the conquest of the Promised Land depicted
in the book of Joshua. Throughout the Israelite campaign to oust natives and settle the land, God s
actions demonstrate his faithfulness. In one instance God uses Rahab to hide Israelite spies, while in
several other situations he allows the Israelites to defeat its foes. From these actions, it is clear that
God remained faithful to his promise with Abraham (to provide his descendents with land). In addition
to Joshua, the book of Judges provides an example of God s faithfulness. Throughout the book, Israel
repeatedly is unfaithful to God and is conquered by foreign powers. In response to Israelite cries for
help, God repeatedly raises up

decisive. In context of a portfolio, the total risk of a security can be divided into two basic
components: systematic risk (also known as market risk or common risk) and unsystematic risk (also
known as diversifiable risk). Although, since the returns on different assets are correlated to at least

Potatoes In The Martian
In the 2015 movie The Martian, Ridley Scott, director, creates a highly realistic space themed setting
for a seeming impossible plot for survival in space. Based upon a science fiction book by Andy Weir,
The Martian challenges the laws of science in order to for a lone astronaut, Mark Watney, to survive
on Mars desolate surface. Potatoes rise as a main source of food and life on the barren landscape.
Repetition, change in color, and change in music highlight the significance of potatoes in The Martian.
In addition, the historical and current context of potatoes adds to the significance. Indeed, potatoes
symbolize life and survival as well as adding realism and a source of foreshadowed outcomes for
Watney s ultimate fate.

these source miss the symbolic realism and meaning behind using potatoes in the movie. For example,
Watney finds the potatoes in a box labeled strictly intended for research use, which ties to the
emphasis on current potato research in space. Watney does not know if growing potatoes is a feasible
way of survival, and therefore must use science and his background in botany to make the potatoes
grow. Watney realistically designs and carriers out a scientific experiment in a process that actual
scientist will explore the possibilities of growing potatoes on Mars. Furthermore, Chinese scientists
willingly fund the research and development to help the United States send a space probe filled with
food to Watney. This connection strikes as a realistic reference to when the first potatoes intended for
space were developed. The Chinese developed the basis for the first space potatoes, and the United
States further advanced the Chinese potatoes in order to send the potatoes into space. Similarly, the
United States first started to develop the food space probe, and the Chinese further aided in
development to successfully rescue Watney from Mars. Both of these instances provide a significant
value of realism to the potatoes shown on

Literary Analysis Of The Turn Of The Screw
Gothic horror has been an interest to many people for centuries. It first peaked around the 1790 s. It is
a stylistic genre of horror that uses a set of characteristics to cause a sense of fear in the audience or
readers. The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, who also wrote his story in 1898 during the Victorian
area, uses gothic horror conventions to reflect the complexity of the human psyche which, leaves the
audience with a sense of ambiguity, or fear of the unknown. The Turn of the Screw is a great short
story that uses rhetorical and literary devices to express a ghost story. The story involves a governess
who becomes obsessed with the idea of trying to prove that there are ghosts in the household, while
also trying to do her job of protecting the children. She often encounters two ghosts that she believes
are trying to corrupt her pupils, and are also communicating with them without her knowing. Henry
James uses his story to invoke the fears of the Victorian era; fears of which include the corruption of
children, potential evil, and the reliability of a governess in a household. In our world, people are often
asking themselves if they can ever trust having someone entering their home. In The Turn of the
Screw, Henry James uses the fear of reliability to trigger the audience s fear of trusting someone into
their home. For example, in his short story, the governess questions what happened to the previous
governess. Mrs. Grose then proceeds to state, The last governess? She was also young and pretty
almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). Mrs. Grose implies that there
was an affair and because of it, the previous governess is no longer there. It can later be seen that Mrs.
Grose is suggesting that the current governess may cause trouble and end up being in the same
position as the previous governess; especially when Mrs. Grose says, ...almost as young and almost as
pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). The audience then becomes fearful and more cautious of their
choices because they wouldn t want this situation to occur to them. In There is a strong prejudice
against governess by Mary Maurice, the author states that in the Victorian era, governesses often have

Ultrasound Technology Essay
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound or ultrasonography is a medical imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves.
It is a high pitch frequency that cannot be heard by the human ear. In ultra sound the following
happens: High frequency sound pulses (1 5megahertz) are transmitted from the ultrasound machine
into your body using a probe. The sound wave will travel into your body until it hits an object such as
soft tissue and bone. When the sound wave hits these objects some of the wave will be reflected back
to the probe. While some waves may carry on further till they hit another object and then reflected
back. The probe picks up these reflected sound waves and relays them to the machine. The distance
and time from the probe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The probe also has an acoustic lens this helps to focus the emitted sound waves. The transducer probe
can come in many different shapes and sizes. The field of view depends on the shape of the probe.
Also the frequency of the waves emitted determines how deep the sound waves will penetrate and also
the resolution of the image that will be produced. Probes can be used to move across the body but they
can also be inserted through various openings. E.g. orally, this enables the probe to get closer to object
that is being examined. Being closer to the object may allow for more detailed views.
The central processing unit is basically the brains behind the ultrasound machine. It is a computer that
sends the electric current to the probe to tell it to emit the sound waves. It also receives the electrical
pulses from the probe which received the sound waves that were reflected back. The CPU processes
all the calculations and all the data the probe receives. Once this information has been processed, the
CPU forms an image on the monitor. It can also store the data into its memory. Transducer pulse
controls allows the operator of the machine to set and change the frequency and duration of the
ultrasound pulses.
The display or the monitor allows for the data that has been processed by the CPU to be displayed as
an image. Images can be displayed in black and white or in color depending on the make and model of

The Trade in Art, Fine Art, Antiques and Antiquities and...
The trade in art, fine art, antiques and antiquities is not portrayed as a violent crime or illicit market
and generally does not come off as a threat to international security. However, because of the large,
increasing demand for antiquities, politically unstable source nations rich with cultural artifacts are
exploited, prompting illicit activity in the clandestine art world, which is becoming an increasing
concern. Terrorist organizations profit from the large financial volume of such low risk, high profit
illicit activities and engage in cultural erosion that leaves the source nations weak in cultural identity.
This in turn, allows terrorist groups the advantage of pursuing and shaping ideological notions in such
volatile nations. The illicit, clandestine art market is also a unique market in which to create backdoor
channels to organized crime, weapon trafficking and narcotic smuggling trade routes.
The art market is attracting attention due to some of the recent, notably high sales prices;
unfortunately, such a profitable return rate from art sales provides enticement for terrorist groups to
participate. The link of terrorism turns the subject of cultural property from a disputable matter in
foreign relations to a matter with significant implications pertaining to international security. Local

selling them to make a profit. The network between laborers, dealers,

A genre is a grouping of works, in this context a grouping of films, that are somehow similar or related
in content or style. Genres are not strictly uniform over a period of time and do allow for growth and
adaptation of their definitive characteristics. As the film industry has developed through the past
century, various genres of films have emerged and are still evolving. Aspects of genres have been

progression of filmmaking, films which do not strictly fall into one genre or which combine elements
of several genres. David Lynch s 1984 film Dune is a fascinating case ... Show more content on

Melodrama, as a film genre, is deeply rooted in the institution of the family and various incarnations
and evolved states of the family unit. Familial issues arise more often in science fiction than has been
widely acknowledged. The futuristic universe of Dune and all of the action of the film is motivated by
inter and intra familial conflicts and resolutions. Science fiction, at times, appears to be merely a
scientific or futuristic setting for the same kind of melodrama film that has been made for years.
However, according to Westfahl, science fiction reconstructed melodrama in a manner which
complicated and undermined its traditional clarity (193). Thus whereas in a melodrama such as The
Cobweb, the initial conflict of the narrative is merely left unresolved (but on an optimistic beat), in the
science fiction melodrama, the film is ended with a hopelessly compromised happy ending (Westfahl,
203). Such is the case with Dune: as the film closes, rain pours down on the desert planet. The rain is
meant to represent a positive miracle and something that is desirable, but the fact that rain would turn
the desert sand to mud, potentially drowning and killing the giant worms and thus ending all spice
production is ignored. The ending leaves the film on a happy note, but the ending has not resolved the
film: it had added more conflict to be resolved. Dune is

Drosophila melanogaster was used for this study for their fast reproduction cycles, fast regenerations,
large amounts of offspring for each generation and their capability of living in a small limited space.
The dominant or recessive genotype could be determining by the used of Mendelian genetic ratios for
wild type to mutant s genes. The mutation that this study focuses on is the defects of the phenotypes in
the common fruit fly, example; wing shape, wing sizes, body color and what the main focus of this

Gender isn t a key factor when it comes to determining a autosomal inheritance, Only sex linked
chromosomes like X or Y have an effect on the ratios for male and females having mutant alleles. This
phenomenon is cause by the specific genome that each gender has, males have the XY chromosomes
for sex and females have XX sex chromosomes. The reason for using Drosophila melanogaster flies is
for their great genetics and fast reproduction that allows us to see in a short period of time the
Mendelian genetic ratios from one generation to the other. Among this reason many others are in great
importance as well, the common fruit fly has the same type of sex chromosomes as of humans, as
mention previously in the text male flies have the same XY sex genes as male humans and same for
female flies and female humans having XX sex genes. The fast regeneration, short life span and large
number of offspring makes this specific organism a prime species to examine and study for better
understanding of the Mendelian genetic ratios. Research was done on Drosophila melanogaster for the
genetic analysis of sex chromosomes, meiotic mutations and their effect on recombination,

should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with
current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license being issued for a steam
propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws
on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like
Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over
50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. As states, one by one, began drafting these
public safety laws, the age required to obtain a license varied from 14 18 years old. ... Show more

Many teens in the US are employed part time while also attending high school. Having a license
enables these teens to get to and from work, job interviews, or even in some cases become employed
in the delivery business. USA Today reports that while 30% of teens have jobs, employment rate is
still falling. Increasing the driving age would only decrease the number of teens in the workforce.
Surprisingly one third of those teens working, do so to support their family. Without proper

The Manhattan Project Essay example
During World War II, the Americans fought a two front war, with pressure from both Japan and
Germany. The United States, aware that Germany was threatening to build an atomic weapon, created
a secret project to develop the technology first. Under the codename, the Manhattan Project, leading
scientists carried out top secret research on fission and the technology needed to create the first atomic
bomb. The immediate impact of the Manhattan Project was the dropping of two atomic bombs on
Japan, ending the war in the Pacific. However, more important influences of this project can be seen
following the detonation of the first bombs. The emergence of the United States as a world

This committee decided that the United States should retain nuclear superiority, in the event that
international relations deteriorated following World War II (US Department of Energy). This decision
is a foreshadowing of the Cold War, and nuclear arms race which followed the dropping of nuclear
weapons on Japan. The interim committee also decreed that a regulatory system should be created to
control the development of nuclear weapons, since other nations would inevitably obtain the
technology needed to develop weapons. Possibly, the most influential decision made by the interim
committee was to keep the details of the atomic bomb a secret, to maintain the shock effect, until after
it had been dropped on Japan. Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. The first bomb dropped was a uranium bomb, nick named Little Boy, was untested
before its detonation (US Department of Energy). The second, dropped after the Japanese did not
surrender, was a plutonium bomb, nick named Fat Man. The dropping of these bombs propelled the
United States to a seat of world power, as they were the only country to obtain a weapon of mass
destruction. The Manhattan Project became scientific and engineering feat, employing over 100,000
individuals. The exceptional organizational model the Manhattan Project provided, allowed for great

Abstract
The purpose of the essay sets out to look at the concept of nationalisation, research it and discuss
whether it is an applicable strategy to implement into South African policy. The importance of the
essay is to highlight the future economic outcomes which could incur in South Africa should it be

The ANC believed that nationalisation would be the key factor of its economic policy reform.
However after much international research, this idea was abandoned due to the overwhelming failures
of nationalisation implementations abroad. The call for nationalisation has brought upon frantic debate
since its re emergence in recent times. Many observers agree that nationalisation appears to have few
positives attached to it but many negatives to it rendering it as a potential economic failure.
Why Is Nationalisation Needed?
South Africa is regarded to have one of the world s most unequal societies. Looking at Gini
Coefficients, The dispersion of income and wealth between the rich and the poor is one of the most
uneven in the world (Bisekker, 2010). This means that South Africa is drifting towards perfect
inequality. With job creation on a decline, unemployment steadily rising, and inequality gap
worsening, the call for nationalisation by Julius Malema (2009) is sought to allow every South African
to benefit from mines, which are owned and run by the State government. In nationalising the mining
sector in South Africa, the State government believes it would have the capabilities of attracting
labour intensive mining industrialists who will process mineral resources and diversify the South
African economy.
Advantages of Nationalisation
Currently in the post Apartheid era, South Africa hasn t achieved

the business to consider is can the new brewery keep up with demand and still provide the same
consistent product (Craft beer distribution: Study the market, distributors and your own operations,
2013). By using a distributor to market and distribute the new beer line, the distributor assists with
promoting the product to potential points of sale, which would be challenging for a new start up
brewery with a new product (Craft beer distribution: Study the market, distributors and your own
operations, 2013). These distributors know the territory, know the potential points of sale that would
be interested in the product, and know the market segments that would provide the most potential
sales of he new beer. The distributor also has interest in the new beer line for their own business

Butler County is a predominately Caucasian county, located north of Pittsburgh, in Western
Pennsylvania. The culture of Butler County is shaped by the limited diversity of the area. Much of the
population residing in Butler County are also somewhere between the ages of 18 and 65 (Census
Bureau 2015). The social conflict approach is a framework for building theory that sees society as an
arena of inequality that generates conflict and change (Macionis). Even though society is becoming
more diverse and accepting towards other races and nationalities, Butler County, like everywhere else,
still has trouble with race issues. Comparing Butler County to Allegheny County, Butler is composed

The varying ages have different interpretations of symbols. Acknowledging the broad age range of 18
to 65, one would realize that there would be different interests of a young college student compared to
a professor getting close to retirement. The Symbolic Interaction Approach is a framework for
building theory that sees society as the product of the everyday interactions of individuals (Macionis
18). Every human has symbols which they often associate with other certain objects or place. One
example of symbolic interaction is social media. Most adolescents use social media to be cool, adults
use it to keep in touch with acquaintances, and the elderly think that social media is a waste of time.
Another example could be going to Alameda Park. Alameda is a park located in Butler Pennsylvania.
Children go to Alameda park for thrill and excitement, parents go to see the happiness their children
experience, while elderly people may reconcile the memories they had as a child. Since a society is
defined as a people who live in a defined territory and share a way of life , different age groups could
potentially be a part of separate societies (Macionis 3). Eventually, the older generation will have
disappeared in Butler County and more liberal views will be installed upon. With the baby boomer

Negative Effects Of Technology On Sleep
One night you go to bed late and when you wake up the next morning you realize just how bad you
feel. You might want to think about what and how you used technology as you were trying to get to
sleep or staying up until all hours of the night harmed your sleep. One reason teens might have
problems getting enough sleep is that teens have habits that negatively affect their sleep. Some
examples of bad habits are the use of technology and not going to sleep at a reasonable time.
However, the use of technology isn t always bad. One positive effect of using technology while trying
to sleep can be seen when listening to low aroused music, for example. It is when teens use
technology for other things that they hurt themselves. While some bad habits of teens can harm your
sleep, some behaviors can make your sleep better. Teens are negatively affected by their use of
technology at night. When you use your electronic devices at night you are risking your sleep. When
teens use their electronics at night the stay up because of, the blue light emitted by screens on cell
phones, computers, tablets, and televisions restrain the production of melatonin, the hormone that
controls your sleep/wake cycle or circadian rhythm. Reducing melatonin makes it harder to fall and
stay asleep (National Sleep Foundation). This means that using your electronics is bad because you
stay up playing on them rather than getting your well needed sleep. Also you need to keep your
bedroom technology free

There is nothing wrong with adopting other cultures. In this essay, I m going to compare and contrast

The relationship of Andrea Roman and her mother in We re Not essay, shows a young girl who was

clothing, and doing homework on sundays which Bolivian culture doesn t believe in. Roman shows
how she was uncomfortable by repeating We re not American, Andrea. (227) Those were the words
she would hear if she did or wanted to do something her mother did not approve. Roman comes to
appreciate her family culture after some time, I had become comfortable enough with my identity and

Marx Private Property Essay
According to Marx s private property only refers to private ownership of factories, and mean of
production which are owned by capitalists. Marx s doesn t want to do away with personal property
which is defined as property that is movable and not fixed in one location. Private property and
exploitation is Marx s main concern and cause for class division and struggle. Marx describes private
property among the two social classes: bourgeoisie and proletariat. The bourgeoisie views private
property as a mere money relation in which wage labor creates capital, not property. Marx s is not
concerned with the private property of personal belongings, but instead wants to abolish the private
property of the bourgeoisie in which they use the proletariats in means of production to produce
capital. The means of production refers to the facilities such as factories, and shops in which are
privately owned to produce capital. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx s wants factories and shops to exists, but not to be owned by the bourgeoisie. Marx s explains
that the average price of wage labour only produces the bare existence. The proletariats, the working

the antagonist the reduction of wages is implemented, and the products created by the proletariats turn
into capital. Marx states, does wage labour create any property for the labourer? Not a bit. It creates
capital, i.e., that kind of property which exploits wage labour. This implies that if wage labor
continues to exists the bourgeois with only receive the benefits while the proletariat cannot attain any
property. The more the proletariats worked for the bourgeoisie under wage labor the more their
individuality diminishes. Marx wants to target the ruling class and abolish their rights and privileges

Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Before I begin my comparison, I think it is important to first
discuss Criminal Law in general. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines
conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and
that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . (Criminal Law, 2017)
Most criminal laws are defined in a statute, meaning they were enacted through legislation. Criminal
Law deals with actions that harm or threaten individuals or their property. The laws ... Show more

Mens Rea refers to criminal intent. Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is
required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the
final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law
for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing.
Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this
comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America
and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also
share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain
individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained
by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the
common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide
current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United
States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from
and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must abide by the
Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK relies strictly on
legislation and case

Relationships Are An Important Part Of Human Existence
Relationships are an important part of human existence. To survive, we must build these connections.
They consume every facet of our lives. We encounter many different relationships in our lifetime. We
are a sibling, friend, parent, child, co worker, spouse, lover and many more. It is a part of who we are
and how we relate to the world around us. It is how we develop and nurture these relationships that
make the difference in our lives. Relationships are complicated, but can be rewarding when all parties
are seeking the same goal. We learn to balance our interactions and seek to find a way of fitting them
into our everyday lives. The best relationships are ones that are built on mutual trust, understanding,
and respect for each other. When they don t work out, we may feel a sense of failure or sadness. They
are often hard to let go of, even if they are dysfunctional and unhealthy for us and the people we are
surrounded by. In Learning to Fall , there are multiple relationships being described. Ruth is a single
mother who is doing her best to raise her young son Andrew and keep a positive outlook on life. The
relationship she has with her son is nurturing and loving. Andrew is striving to become independent
and resents his mother being too mushy, especially in front of other people. What makes this a bit
more complicated and special, is the fact that Andrew was born with disabilities. Ruth also has a
friendship with the narrator. The two women appear close and seem to

Disadvantages Of Bottled Water
If a person conducting a social experiment were to pass out two label less water bottles, one filled with
tap water and one filled with bottled water, the number of people that cannot tell which bottle contains
tap water might be surprising. The difference between tap and bottled water can vary depending on
brand, location, and other factors, but there will always be those that stand out. Tap water has many
advantages over bottled water in frequent use. While bottled water might have its own convenience,
tap water costs less, is tested more frequently and publicly, and there is safety in tap water despite the
stigma stating otherwise. Tap water cost less due to not having to spend money on the plastic needed
to create the bottles of bottled water. The cheapest bottled water found in the local area could be a
pack of twelve for $3.00, meaning the price per bottle would be around 0.25 ¢; this amount is much
greater than the average cost of tap water. Cost per bottle is not the only cost of bottled water, there are
also costs of transportation and production of the bottles necessary to consider. According to Standage,
This year, Americans will spend around $9.8 billion on bottled water (1). The amount spent in
America alone on bottled water, if reallocated elsewhere could provide large changes in places of
need. Finance is not the only cost that bottled water could impact however. The plastic in the bottles is
made from petrol made from an oil base. With

The first test explosion of a hydrogen bomb was done by the USA in 1952, the year that Britain exploded its first test atomic bomb. The Soviet Union exploded its first hydrogen bomb in 1953. In the 1950s by the end of world war Ⅱ the united states decided to launch the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Nagasaki. Joseph Rotblat then devoted his life on the banning the usage of nuclear weapons and testing. • 4. Team Training Essay After I examining your training records it s evident that you re extremely smart. You dominated your end of course exam with a 92% to become a 5 level as an Aircraft Structural Maintainer. However, looking at your hands on training completion date I began to question if you truly understood the material. I also questioned if you received the proper training. Unlike the average completion dates I ve seen in the past, you completed your 5 level tasks in roughly 16 months versus the norm of 8 10 months. On the contrary, my perception of how you affected the team dynamic in the shop was that of an executor. Whenever tasks were brought to your attention, you were always overly anxious to execute the plan in a timely manner and identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why did I recommend this specific additional duty to you? The reason I am recommending this additional duty to you is because I sincerely believe you will excel in this position. This program requires a very specific structure and the responsibility it carries is very is significant. Handling chemicals with the right personal protective equipment is crucial to the safety of the personnel in your section. Based on your team role as an executor, I think you would soar in this additional duty because of your ability to follow specific regulations and your high standards. You ve always been quick to say No when members wanted you to do a task that wasn t justified by technical data. I foresee you having zero issues ensuring the chemicals that are used continuously are labelled correctly and cleaned before and after use. Which is an issue we both have seen continuously occur over the past few months. It seems like every few weeks the shop acquires a Quality Assurance (QA) fail for improper storage of HAZ material. As aggravating as that can get, if you fill the HAZ Material and Waste position it will allow you to flex your cognitive preference as an adaptor. In doing so, you will be able to make improvements to the program in areas you deem fit based on AFIs, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Occupational, Safety and Health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Exposition In The Poem By Langston Hughes . The exposition in any story or poem is the beginning, probably the first paragraph that lays out basic information on what the author will talk about. It introduces the characters, time, in this place and the setting of the piece of art. In this poem life is fine by Langston Hughes, the exposition begins when the author goes to the riverbank to think but he could not concentrate. This makes him attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river. He sank upon jumping. 2. We all thought the speaker would die after attempting to commit suicide twice but at the end he survives and embraces a new meaning of life. 5. The falling action of the poem is when the speaker does not die and decides that since the attempts to commit suicide were futile, he will continue living and embrace life. So since am still here livin ,I guess I will live on . He points out that loss of love pushed him to the edge of attempting to commit suicide but it also gives him a new meaning of life and understands his sense of purpose. I think this is the falling action since it shows how the character go back to accepting his life the way it was before the thoughts of committing suicide occupied his mind. He recognizes that life is sacred and it should not be given up despite the hard situations that people go through in life. The poem addresses a scenario where people result to death as a way of overcoming their problems. 6. Denouement shows the characters going back to the normal life they led before the conflict occurred. The speaker comes to realize how life is consecrated that he even acclaims that life is fine. Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine! I think the speaker was happy to be alive because Surname3 he seems to have a renewed desire to live. In biochemistry, it can be used to determine enzyme catalyzed reactions, whereas in clinical application, it is used to examine blood and tissues. This quantitative method of analysis can also be used in engineering, physics,etc.[2] METHODOLOGY The experiment was initially done by preparing standard solutions of different volumes of Cu(II) stock solution of known concentration including a blank solution composed of ammonia and water. Each volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted unknown Cu(II) solution. Addition of ammonia caused the formation of deeper blue copper ammonia complex which allowed the spectrophotometer to detect the solution easily due to increase in its absorbance. The formation of the complex is shown by the following chemical reaction: Cu2+ + 4NH3 [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (4) A deficiency in ammonia in the solution would cause the copper ammonia complex to turn into its hydrated form which would eventually alter the accuracy of the data obtained because of its

So live action films are becoming more and more computer generated (McClean 2007) Does the narrative matter? of course it does, so why do we need the effects? the use of the effects does not mean that the narrative of a film is weak, the effects just supports and makes the narrative more effective, once you have a good story in your head seeing it on a screen makes a whole different perspective and therefore the audience reacts depending on how they can see it and how much they believe it. Special effects are just a tool, a means of telling a story. People have a tendency to confuse them as an end to themselves. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing (Schickel 1983) An example of such would be the movie Life of Pi , a film that was created using visual effects and special effects to the point of winning oscars for such, if we think about it, I would hardly believe that if the film was filmed in a back garden or in a outdoor/indoor swimming pool with a small boat and a man dressed up in a tiger costume would have been as successful as it was. Narrative Elements Of Horror Almost every genre of film to date has been designed and developed to make an audience feel satisfied or sexed up and in love or delighted or inspired or rushed with adrenaline. Horror, on the other hand, was the first genre that preyed on the audience s deepest fears and utilized them to provide cinema with nightmare flair. And everybody loved it. The idea of this essay is to address the nightmarish absurdity that horror is so well known for. (Class notes: Body Horror) Though these films address such valid points, they also strive to create a swelling unease in the viewer and an awkward discomfort the viewer s body. The intent is to provoke sickness, revulsion, and abhorrence in the audience. Eraserhead, without a doubt, succeeds in achieving all of the above. These expeditions not only led to the European discovery of the Americas but also proved that the Earth was round. One of the big benefactors of the Age of Exploration was Christopher Columbus, who accidentally sailed to the Americas. His discovery led to the Columbian Exchange, which sent goods between the Americas and Europe, changing the lifestyle of millions. • 15. Tristram Shandy Analysis In Laurence Sterne s Tristram Shandy, Toby Shandy is often characterized as naïve and innocent, especially in references to matter of sex. Many, the readers as well as fellow characters, reason this to be from the injury in which he received from the Battle of Namur . Through an analysis of the text and research, I have concluded that the naïveté, innocence, and other contextual evidence associated with Uncle Toby Shandy, actually points to Toby being a homosexual. As I mentioned before, I have developed this theory through research, specifically a piece written by Jarred Wiehe called No Penis? No Problem: Intersections of Queerness and Disability in Laurence Sterne s The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and Martin Rowson s factual evidence found from a Shandean Studies seminar, where it was debated if Tristram Shandy should be placed within the genre of Gay Literature. In addition, within the text the reader encounters a surplus of evidence, such as, Toby s modesty, his ignorance of the females and sex, experiences within the military, his close companionable relationship with Corporal Trim, the descriptions of his personality and behaviors, such as his Hobby Horse , provided by Tristram Shandy, and the heterosexual norms and expectations of the setting/ time period. In the beginning of the novel, I was eager to believe in the explanations that Tristram Shandy was providing for his uncle s demure nature, such as his injury, but I soon became wary upon further reading. The first encounter with evidence that causes doubt within the reader of Toby Shandy s true sexual preference, was his modesty. Tristram describes it as, More specifically, would be both the situation in which he admits of knowing next to nothing about the female body or behaviors to his brother, Walter Shandy, and his shyness when mentioning the affair that Aunt Dinah had. To begin, Tristram s example of Toby s embarrassment of the affair that happened by a deceased Aunt Dinah, can make some sense if it was in reference to the scandalousness of an affair , but Toby Shandy is more so offended by the fact that it was something sexual. • 16. Analysis Of The Book In Brooklyn In Brooklyn, the author, Colm Tóibín, tells a coming of age immigration story set in the 1950s about Eilis Lacey, a young woman from Enniscorthy, Ireland. Eilis travels from her hometown in County Wexford to Brooklyn, New York with the help of Father Flood and her sister, Rose. Eilis is confronted with homesickness, love, and identity crisis throughout the story. Although Brooklyn is about Eilis s journey, Rose plays an important role in her life. Rose is Eilis s older sister who still lives at home with Eilis and their mother. Rose helps support them with money for food, movies, clothes and even Eilis s schooling by working in the office of Davis s Mills. While in Brooklyn, Eilis and Rose send letters back and forth until Rose suddenly dies in her sleep and leaves their mother all alone. Colm Tóibín s creates Rose to be the heroic character of the novel. Initially Rose does seem manipulative but soon proves to be a hero. In this essay I will argue that Rose is not completely manipulative, but that she is actually a combination of both heroism and manipulation; she is a helpful person who sometimes uses manipulation to achieve this. In the beginning of Brooklyn, Eilis gets a job as a shopkeeper for Miss Kelly s grocery store and Rose disapproves of it. She often encounters two ghosts that she believes are trying to corrupt her pupils, and are also communicating with them without her knowing. Henry James uses his story to invoke the fears of the Victorian era; fears of which include the corruption of children, potential evil, and the reliability of a governess in a household. In our world, people are often asking themselves if they can ever trust having someone entering their home. In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses the fear of reliability to trigger the audience s fear of trusting someone into their home. For example, in his short story, the governess questions what happened to the previous governess. Mrs. Grose then proceeds to state, The last governess? She was also young and pretty almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). Mrs. Grose implies that there was an affair and because of it, the previous governess is no longer there. It can later be seen that Mrs. Grose is suggesting that the current governess may cause trouble and end up being in the same position as the previous governess; especially when Mrs. Grose says, ...almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). The audience then becomes fearful and more cautious of their choices because they wouldn t want this situation to occur to them. • 33. Ultrasound Technology Essay What is Ultrasound? Ultrasound or ultrasonography is a medical imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves. It is a high pitch frequency that cannot be heard by the human ear. In ultra sound the following happens: High frequency sound pulses (1 5megahertz) are transmitted from the ultrasound machine into your body using a probe. The sound wave will travel into your body until it hits an object such as soft tissue and bone. When the sound wave hits these objects some of the wave will be reflected back to the probe. While some waves may carry on further till they hit another object and then reflected back. The probe picks up these reflected sound waves and relays them to the machine. The distance and time from the probe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The probe also has an acoustic lens this helps to focus the emitted sound waves. The transducer probe can come in many different shapes and sizes. The field of view depends on the shape of the probe. Also the frequency of the waves emitted determines how deep the sound waves will penetrate and also the resolution of the image that will be produced. Probes can be used to move across the body but they can also be inserted through various openings. E.g. orally, this enables the probe to get closer to object that is being examined. Being closer to the object may allow for more detailed views. The central processing unit is basically the brains behind the ultrasound machine. It is a computer that sends the electric current to the probe to tell it to emit the sound waves. It also receives the electrical pulses from the probe which received the sound waves that were reflected back. The CPU processes all the calculations and all the data the probe receives. Once this information has been processed, the CPU forms an image on the monitor. It can also store the data into its memory. Transducer pulse controls allows the operator of the machine to set and change the frequency and duration of the ultrasound pulses. The display or the monitor allows for the data that has been processed by the CPU to be displayed as an image. The trade in art, fine art, antiques and antiquities is not portrayed as a violent crime or illicit market and generally does not come off as a threat to international security. However, because of the large, increasing demand for antiquities, politically unstable source nations rich with cultural artifacts are exploited, prompting illicit activity in the clandestine art world, which is becoming an increasing concern. Terrorist organizations profit from the large financial volume of such low risk, high profit illicit activities and engage in cultural erosion that leaves the source nations weak in cultural identity. This in turn, allows terrorist groups the advantage of pursuing and shaping ideological notions in such volatile nations. The illicit, clandestine art market is also a unique market in which to create backdoor channels to organized crime, weapon trafficking and narcotic smuggling trade routes. The art market is attracting attention due to some of the recent, notably high sales prices; unfortunately, such a profitable return rate from art sales provides enticement for terrorist groups to participate. The link of terrorism turns the subject of cultural property from a disputable matter in foreign relations to a matter with significant implications pertaining to international security. As the film industry has developed through the past century, various genres of films have emerged and are still evolving. Melodrama, as a film genre, is deeply rooted in the institution of the family and various incarnations and evolved states of the family unit. Familial issues arise more often in science fiction than has been widely acknowledged. The futuristic universe of Dune and all of the action of the film is motivated by inter and intra familial conflicts and resolutions. Science fiction, at times, appears to be merely a scientific or futuristic setting for the same kind of melodrama film that has been made for years. However, according to Westfahl, science fiction reconstructed melodrama in a manner which complicated and undermined its traditional clarity (193). Thus whereas in a melodrama such as The Cobweb, the initial conflict of the narrative is merely left unresolved (but on an optimistic beat), in the science fiction melodrama, the film is ended with a hopelessly compromised happy ending (Westfahl, 203). Such is the case with Dune: as the film closes, rain pours down on the desert planet. The rain is meant to represent a positive miracle and something that is desirable, but the fact that rain would turn the desert sand to mud, potentially drowning and killing the giant worms and thus ending all spice production is ignored. The ending leaves the film on a happy note, but the ending has not resolved the film: it had added more conflict to be resolved. Dune is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
