Christopher Reeves Definition Of A Hero
The definition of a hero has been conflicted upon throughout time. The definition of a hero changes
from person to person. Some people will define a hero as someone who is courageous. Others define
heroes as selfless. But heroes are all around us. They could be standing next to us. The simplest things
can transform an ordinary, everyday person into a hero. Heroes are people who are ready to help at a
moment s notice.
Everyday people can be heroes. One example is firefighters. They go into buildings that are ablaze to
save people. Firefighters go in knowing that there is a risk that there is a chance that they might not
come out again. They know that the people inside the building are more important than they are. They
don t have to save those people s lives, but they choose to. Firefighters also have to put out the fire.
This can be really dangerous because a fire can weaken a building s structure. Firefighters don t sit
around deciding if they should put out the fire, they know that it is their job to put out the fire. ... Show

Some of the most important traits include courage, self confidence, humility, and selflessness. While
many people consider heroes to be larger than life, Christopher Reeves states that, A hero is an
ordinary person, who preserves, and endures despite overwhelming challenges (Reeves). Everyday
people can be heroes when they do the right things. There are many characteristics that can make
someone a hero. Characteristics such as self confidence can transform an ordinary person into a hero.
Self confidence means to believe in yourself. When you believe in yourself, you can do anything you
put your mind to. If you have self confidence, you have the strength to help people in dire
circumstances. When you help others, you have the strength to help

Poverty and the American Dream
The American Dream as defined by James Truslow Adams in 1931 is a national ethos of the United
States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social
mobility achieved through hard work. Truslow states life should be worse and poorer and fuller for
everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or
circumstances of birth. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of
Independence which proclaims that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. The
American Dream is viewed by many Americans as not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he noted in the preface, there was no shortage of such books. What he wanted to contribute was
broad interpretive sensibility that emphasized important historical themes. For Adams, no theme was
more important than what he called that American dream of better, richer, and happier life for all our
of citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thought and welfare
of the world. That dream of hope has been present since we became and independent nation, each
generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save that dream from the forces which
appeared to be overwhelming it.
While Adams may have the coined the phrase of the American Dream, it is apparent that the notion of
the Dream was a prevalent long before the term was engrained in the oral culture of American society.
The roots of the American Dream is evident even in the composition of the Declaration of
Independence. Written in 1776, Cullen suggests that the Declaration of Independence is directly
worded to invoke a spirit of the anything is possible at any moment. He states: Maybe saying that the
Declaration is central in contemporary American life seems odd, since a few of us have actually read
the entire document. And those of us who have can t help but notice that this manifesto, like so much
else about American Revolution, is remote, even tedious. The Key

Quantum Leap Essay
A Quantum Leap Computational Design
After encountering hunter age for several million years, the agricultural age for several thousand
years, the Industrial Age for couple of centuries and the Information Age only for few decades, lately
we re on the cusp of another subsequent era as a species, the Augmented age. In this new era, our
innate human potential is ought to be augmented by computational designs that shall connects us to
the world far beyond our natural senses.

Our over excessive usage of technology has physically departed us from nature but a study of

spaces used twice as many nature elements (posters and photos especially) to decorate their office
walls than those who had views to natural areas outdoors. This shows man s inexplicable

Character Analysis Of Dunstan Ramsey In Fifth Business By...
Whilst reading the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, Dunstan Ramsey has developed many
relationships with the characters whom are mentioned in the novel. One who stands out particularly is
his relationship with Mary Dempster, the lady he has known for decades. As it is shown in the novel
the author Davies has a theme of displaying different archetypes for each one of his characters,
including Mary Dempster who identifies to be The Innocent . Examples include when she was hit in
the head with a snowball, giving items out to the townspeople and losing her son Paul at the young
age of ten years old.
Ever since Mary Dempster was introduced in the early pages of the novel it was clear that she would
become a prime target because of her certain lack of knowledge. However, it became more evident
when Percy Boyd Staunton threw a snowball at Dunstable who evidently ducked it which resulted to
pregnant Mary getting hit on the back of the head. I stepped briskly-not running, but not dawdling-
in front of the Dempsters just as Percy threw, and the snowball hit Mrs Dempster on the back of the
head [10]. This is where it all went downhill for Mary Dempster, due to the injury to the brain and the
sudden birth of her premature son that same evening. This is where she truly started to lose her head.

Simulations Essay
Simulations
What I hear, I forget; what I see, I remember; what I do, I understand.
Confucius, 451 BC
General
As young children, we all learn by doing. Toddlers learn to walk on their own with their parents
standing by as guides, providing a safe environment that makes it possible for the child to learn. When
a child enters the formal education system, unfortunately this rich environment of learning by doing
often disappears. The education system is still stuck in the industrial age with classrooms more often
designed for teaching rather than for learning purposes.
To return to the learning by doing stage, enter simulations. A simulation is an instructional strategy

A well designed simulation meets all of John Keller s goals in the ARCS model (attention, relevance,
confidence and satisfaction). It presents a problem to be solved, allows the learner to make choices,
shows the consequences of those choices, and builds confidence in the learner when the problem is
mastered.
There are five major characteristics of simulations:
Simulations are problem based units of learning that are set in motion by a particular task, issue,
policy, crisis, or problem. The problems to be addressed by the participant may be either implicit or
explicit, depending on the nature of the simulation. The issues inherent in the simulation are not
textbook problems or questions in which answers are cut and dried and determined quickly.
Participants carry out functions associated with their roles and the settings in which they find
themselves. The outcomes of the simulation are not determined by chance or luck. Instead,
participants experience consequences that follow from their own actions. Participants experience
reality of function to the extent that they fulfill their roles conscientiously and in a professional
manner, executing all the rights, privileges and responsibilities associated with the role.

Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life
John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as
his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and
travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat
unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular
personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on
him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The
knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this
exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his
emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in
which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley
Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors
bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3).
Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of
Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not
generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there
was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist
movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a
prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was
one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction
to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of
Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to
light, its source real or fairly

Culture is defined as the boundary between different people from different ends of the earth. For my
project I had to interview another person from a different culture. This was difficult for me because I
had no idea where to start because I didn t know what made my culture specific to me. I found my
interview subject relatively fast and I sat down and asked the questions. I found my subject from my
boss I interviewed my bosses boyfriends sister and we went at it. Her name was Monica Rosales I
noticed right away that she was very open to me and nonverbal ques showed such as her hand

Do Public Subsidies For Professional Athletic...
Do public subsidies for professional athletic organizations benefit their local community?
Sports teams, or professional athletic organization, are extremely important institutions within a city
or region. They can help connect people with places, and through this loyalty, a sense of civic pride
can be seen. Furthermore, the multi billion dollar industry sports produces effects that can impact
individuals and communities. In recent years dozens of new sports stadiums have been built
throughout the country, with major funding coming from public subsidies. The aim of this paper is to
analyze the positive and negative impacts that come with these subsidies.
The issue at hand, however, is that power has shifted from the cities to the teams themselves.
Professional athletic organizations have started taking advantage of cities by threatening to relocate
unless they get public subsidies for expensive stadium renovations and construction. With this in mind
it is imperative to ask today s question: Do public subsidies for professional athletic organizations
benefit their local community? The way I plan on conducting research is through a literary analysis, as
I am a high school student with very few resources to gather large amounts of primary data. The types
of literature that will be in this paper will include studies, meta analysis, news articles, and magazine
articles. By gathering this information, I will be more equipped to conduct more intensive research in

through the use of Black Magic and the other being the study of meta physics and the unknown
through the use of White Magic. The black aspect of magic is revealed through the character of the
evil witch Sycorax. The white aspect of magic is revealed through the well developed character of
Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. The good aspect of magic is developed to a much greater extent
than the evil aspect of magic. The black magic, whether in the form of alchemy, astrology, or

higher education increasing annually, many universities have adopted this recent trend in education.
Online degrees offer an interesting alternative to traditional classroom learning. It features flexible
scheduling options so that it can be pursued in the comfort of the home. Numerous people have earned
their degrees while studying at home, attending recorded classes and taking online quizzes. All that is
needed is a computer, or laptop and a stable internet connection. Real world knowledge can be
accessed with just a click of the mouse. Interactive classrooms, virtual field trips, videos, photos and
interesting lectures make up most of the online sessions. Access to MP3 lectures is available 24/7 and
no on campus attendance or logon times are required. Furthermore, video lectures can be streamed
online on a mobile device or computer. Online associate degree programs can be completed in two
years or sometimes less! In reality, though, the amount of time needed to complete an associate s
degree varies depending on the course of study undertaken. An associate s degree is an industry
respected credential. Most associate degree holders can find jobs and make a living earlier than their
bachelor degree counterparts, who commit four or five years of school to complete their program and

who are dreaming to become pro athletes. Due to its popularity, there are numbers statically proven
that the National Collegiate Athletic Association and universities itself gain huge profit from their
student athletes playing in their college leagues from advertisements and televising contracts. Stanley
Eitzen statically argued that NCAA has signed a $6,200,000,000, 11 year deal, giving the rights to
CBS channel to televise the NCAA men s basketball championship and $930,000,000 with ABC to

the profit from college athletes participating in their sports which he argued that it s unfair and college
athletes should be paid as well due to NCAA or Universities earnings. 3)It is understable why this
argument can be valid due to the huge earnings that these association and universities receives as
athletes absorb more attention for them while these hard working athletes devote their time to these

because of they are the reason these associations and universities attract more profits for their school

American Federation of Labor and Industrial Workers of the World The American Federation of Labor
was an association of trade unions starting 1886, rising out of an earlier Federation of Organized
Trades and Labor Unions founded in 1881. The AFL s president, Samuel Gompers, was convinced
that unions open to workers of all types of skills within a given industry, called industrial unions, were
too undisciplined to withstand the tactics that both government and management had used to break
American unions in the past. The answer, was craft unions, each limited to the skilled workers in a
single trade. According to Gompers s pure and simple unionism, labor should not waste its energies

This group, which became the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), grew so powerful that the
AFL expelled the ten CIO unions in 1937. The AFL and CIO continued as separate organizations
during World War II but were reunited in 1955. The AFL CIO was now the nation s dominant labor
organization, but this achievement was already being undermined by changes in the American
economy and work force most notably, the growing loss of jobs in the manufacturing sector where
unions had been strongest. In 1945 nearly one third of American workers belonged to a union; by
1990 the proportion had fallen to less than one fifth. The IWW was founded in Chicago by a
convention of delegates from workers unions representing 40 different trades. Among the unions that
played principal roles in its establishment were the old Western Federation of Miners, the American
Labor Union, and the Socialist Trade and Labor Alliance, composed of trade unions and socialist
groups. The outstanding labor leaders at the founding convention included Eugene Victor Debs,
William Dudley Haywood, and Daniel De Leon. The aim of the IWW was to include in its
membership the entire industrial population of the U.S. The organizational plan provided for seven

Comparison of Mid Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My First Sonne
The above poems are written by 3 different people and on reading them they seem to be about very
different things. But at heart, they are about death and the pain that appears afterwards. Seamus
Heaney s
Mid Term Break is a memory of his four year old brother s death.
Gillian Clarke s The Field Mouse is about death in a political conflict compared to a death in nature.
Finally On My First Sonne by
Ben Johnson is about the death of his son and the religious view of the situation.
Both Heaney and Johnson s poems are about the death of a close loved one and how it is dealt with
emotionally and in reality. On looking at the title of Heaney s poem, you almost ... Show more content

that whatever you love, don t get attached to it, as you will end up losing it.
Clarke, on the other hand, has a more general observation to death and tells it from the sort of view
most people might have on war or conflict. Like Heaney s Mid Term Break, when you see the title of
Clark s poem you assume that it will be a happy poem about a cute and cuddly mouse. This theory is
almost exactly the opposite of what the poem is actually about. You can see that the poem is about the
death and destruction in Bosnia War and compares it to the death and destruction that occurs while
harvesting.
This poem again is a memory like Mid Term Break, and at the end it shows her feeling and attitude
towards war and violence. You can tell that her feelings are negative since she writes the line my
neighbour turned stranger . This I think means that people you once were good friends with would
now become your enemy. So unlike the other 2 poems where it tells that death is a natural occurrence,
this poem tells that a person s main enemy is another person that could possibly be your best friend.
In Johnson s poem you can tell he is a very religious

Fort Morgan One City One Book Analysis
Many cities across the United states have started the One City , One Book project, like Chicago and
even Denver. Fort Morgan as a community deserves to also get to try out these new activities that
would benefit our community greatly in many aspects. The community of Fort Morgan would benefit
from the One City/One Book project because of the diversity in Fort Morgan, it will keep people
involved and encouraged to try something new, and it may open up people s mind. We should have a
one book one city project centered around Enriquez Journey as our first book because the book talks

We should adopt One Book, One City project centered around Enriquez Journey as our first book.
According to reviews on People.com, Enriquez Journey is [A] searing report from the immigration
frontlines...as harrowing as it is heartbreaking. It gives us an opportunity to open up our minds
because we can get details about the experiences people go through. With elections coming up and
immigration being a heated topic, this would be great book to see both sides of it. With the diversity in
Fort Morgan, we can all learn from each other and we can even have books in Spanish and Somali, so
everyone is included. We could even have a youth one book, one city project to get younger kids

Human Rights Against Human Rights
Human rights are the internal and external privileges which all humans are considered given including
freedom to live, liberty, equality, and a fair trial, freedom from slavery and torture, and freedom of
thought and expression. But, even the privileges that our countries and life itself give us can be
violated or even taken away. A more specific example is the death penalty or capital punishment,
which is the most severe government ruling of executing a convicted criminal. This practice is
extremely common in America and other countries around the world. Many argue that the execution of
a human life is not a human rights violation using hammurabi s code of an eye for an eye, a life for a
life and that capital murders deserve to be capitally murdered. But considering constitutional issues,
precedents and other global issues, the death penalty is a human rights violation. Justice is not served,
when one kills in the name of justice. America s stance on capital punishment is at a 62% 38% for the
death penalty, but due to recent allegations and decisions the support for the death penalty is rapidly
decreasing across the United States. There are 31 states with the death penalty: Alabama Arizona,
Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio,

Concealed Campus Carry Research Paper
We are seeing a growing number of states bringing forth campus carry to their legislation. Some states
leave it up to the individual college or university to decide to allow concealed carry, while others
outright ban it. However, Texas passed Senate Bill 11 which allowed for licensed gun holders to carry
a concealed handgun on university grounds. Texas was the eighth state to allow concealed campus
carry. Now Georgia and Tennessee are beginning to make efforts. House Bill 280 has recently passed
through Georgia s legislature and is now awaiting the Governor s approval or denial. In Tennessee,
full time employees have been able to carry concealed weapons as of July of 2016, now they are
pushing to expand the law to part time employees as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Student housing, personnel meetings, and sporting events are all places where guns are banned.
Governor Nathan Deal of Georgia is even demanding that guns be banned from facilities where high
school students take specific college courses. Tennessee and Texas have not addressed the topic of
guns around dual enrollment high school students. Each state has requirements on who can carry as
well. Texas goes a step further than Georgia and Tennessee and requires those who want to carry must
undergo training from a certified instructor. No training is required for Georgia or Tennessee, but
perhaps it s something they should consider to greater ensure safety.
More and more states are pushing for campus carry and universities and colleges no longer be a gun
free zone. There will always be debates whether guns on campus are good or bad. Groups such as
Moms Demand Action are criticizing legislatures who pass any gun bills, while Students for
Concealed Carry are gun advocates. Despite the fact that not everyone will agree on the topic of guns
on campus, we could soon possibly see a majority of public universities and colleges allowing

The Nature Of Face Processing Impairments
PY3003 Autistic Spectrum Disorders
What is the nature of face processing impairments in autism?
Student ID: 1310023
Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are
processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have
found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et
al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka,
2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed.
Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory
mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010).
Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls
could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people
process faces in a qualitatively different manner.
Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or
possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and
affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could
ameliorate these difficulties. Understanding of the deficits causes is only possible in the context of

Strobel s Eight Objections To Belief In God
What Strobel does in this book is to give eight objections to belief in God that those of us who work
with people in doubt (agnostic or atheist) hear, and he then responds to them. The objections are:
Since evil and suffering exist, a loving God cannot
Since miracles contradict science, they cannot be true
Evolution explains life so God isn t needed
God isn t worthy of worship since He kills innocent children
It is offensive to claim Jesus is the only way to God
A loving God would never torture people in Hell
Church history is littered with oppression and violence
I still have doubts so I can t be a Christian

time, providing a number of explanations and reasons why those questions are so important in the

Problem Description
As it was already mentioned, in 1988, the Barilla s Logistics Director, Brando Vitalli addressed the
company s problems in manufacturing and distributions systems and proposed an idea that would fix
all the problems caused by fluctuating demand and radically changed the process of ordering and
delivering. This idea was later supported by Giorgio Maggiali, the Chief of Barilla s Logistics
Department, who was trying to implement the Just in Time Distribution (JITD), taken from Just in
Time manufacturing concept. The purpose of JITD system was reaching operating efficiency. The
main idea of JITD was that instead of letting the distributors determine the quantity and delivery
schedules, Barilla s own logistics would be responsible for doing this. Barilla would look at all the
distributor s shipment data and send only that quantity what was needed at the store. JITD would look

Bilingual Education Policy in Australia Concerning...
From the time the British first settled the continent to the present, the Aboriginal people of Australia
and the English speaking Australian government have had a rocky relationship. For many years,
aboriginal Australians experienced much discrimination and racism. Like Native Americans in the
United States, the Aborigines were displaced from their tribal lands and forced into designated
settlements. This was all part of an attempt on the part of the government and the European settlers to
eradicate Aboriginal culture. Though overtly racist policies have now been done away with and formal
apologies given, much of Aboriginal culture has been lost. Efforts to revive it are now underway, and
at the forefront of these are efforts to revitalize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ensuring that Aboriginal children are able to become fully proficient in Standard Australian English is
important, since it greatly expands the number of opportunities available to them in higher education,
employment, and access to services (McKay, 300). Aboriginal parents are eager for these children to
gain access to these opportunities through mastery of Standard Australian English, but do not wish
their own languages to be lost in the process (McKay, 305). Aboriginal Australians, even those who do
not themselves speak an Aboriginal language, show great pride in their language as part of their
cultural identity (McKay, 299). As such, it is necessary for schools to display recognition of each
language s intrinsic cultural value and linguistic complexity and uniqueness (Gale, 282). Concrete
evidence of the value of these languages to Aboriginal people is shown by the fact that knowledge of
an Aboriginal language decreases the likelihood of excessive alcohol consumption and illicit drug use
in 15 to 24 year old Aborigines (McKay, 300). In the past, well implemented bilingual education
programs have resulted in a stronger relationship between schools and their surrounding communities,
as well as an increase in the interest of Aboriginal people in becoming teachers (McKay, 312).
Teachers who have been involved in bilingual education programs know the positive effects they have

In the past, pre enrollment systems took a lot of time to accomplish, from securing plenty of forms, to

consuming. Now however, with the option of porting all these operations over the internet, they have

they can view all the subjects they have already taken, their grades on these subjects, subjects that they

Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for
student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential
questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the
standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the
learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson
and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units,
and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27).
When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a
way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards
planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the
learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is
clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010)
explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about
the evidence that will show

Teenage Pregnancy in American Culture Essay
In recent years, teenage pregnancy has been labeled a major issue amongst teens that it can be known
as an Epidemic. Is teenage pregnancy directly responsible for a host of society s ills? Increasing
teenage pregnancy rate translates directly into increasing rates of school failure, early behavioral
problems, drug abuse, child abuse, depression, and crimes. Many social problems can be directly
attributed to the poor choices of teenage girls. The talk shows today are flooded by episodes dealing
with teen pregnancies. The teenage rate in the United States declined in 1993 and 1994. Unfortunately,
the number of birth decreased only to older teens, ages 18 and 19. Babies born to teens younger than
17 actually increased, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenage hormones seek gratification, this may become addicting; they sort of become sexual
predators. Many cultural influences remind these young people of teenage sexuality. Proscribing
sexual activity for teens has gone to the personal liberation and media saturated sex desire. Billboards,
commercials, magazines, everywhere you look, sexuality is expressed. Watching a beer commercial
has become one of the targets for sexuality because almost all these commercials has a half naked
woman trying to seduce a man into drinking their label of beer. Another concern regarding teenage
pregnancy is coercion. In California, more than 70,000 babies were born to teenage mothers in 1993,
are now charging men in their 20 s who get underage girls pregnant with either statutory rape or lewd
sexual activity with a minor. The Urban Institutes states that three quarters of the girls under the age of
14 who are sexually active say they were forced by their first partner to have sex relations. Media
attention focuses a lot on teenage pregnancy casting the unmarried teenage mothers as the source of
many society s ills. Illegitimacy is an important social problem, I believe more than crime, drugs,
poverty, illiteracy, welfare, or homelessness. The reason why is because unwed parents are the main
drive for all of these other social problems that are due to the illegitimate

The conditions that the miners had to face during the gold rush. They had to sacrifice time and effort
to mine because they didn t have money to spend on anything else. The conditions also showed that
they had to drink out of barrels stored for months that developed a vile taste meaning they needed to
add vinegar and molasses to make the water drinkable. In addition they Also showed how it was hard
for the mines to find out ways to mine and find the gold , They first used baskets to sift through gravel
then later used high pressure water and explosives to allow faster and more reliable way of mining. In

Group Climate Essay examples
Group Climate
Group climate consists of the overall sentiment that is displayed within a group. This includes the
aspects of honesty, openness, consistency and respect according to Teamwork by Lefasto and Larson.
When evaluating the characteristics of group climate in a team, the most prevalent component to
examine is trust. Trust yields respect, acknowledgement, cohesiveness, a bridge between cultural
differences and above all else, sensitivity to ideas being expressed so a consensus can be reached.
However, as pointed out by Teamwork , trust is extremely fragile. If trust can be maintained and not
breached, a team has defeated one of the few obstacles that inhibit the team from attaining their
ultimate goal. This is because trust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, establishing mutual and interesting grounds for completing the task at hand will
hopefully promote such zeal. If these two ingredients exist, then the other aspects of trust should fall
into place. Members should be eager to attend meetings, contribute ideas and prepare delegated
assignments.
In order to evaluate group climate and the level of trust present, we devised this tool (refer to climate
tool). By using this tool, we specifically examined different aspects of what we considered beneficial
criteria to effective group climate and detrimental criteria to effective group climate. The tool was
divided into two sections in order to evaluate both good and bad displays of climate by individual
members, as opposed to, simply measuring all positive aspects and not taking into account harmful
communication. Team members were graded by subtracting their detrimental points accrued from
their beneficial points. A maximum score would have been a 24.
While Aaron clearly contributed the most to his group and scored the highest on beneficial points with
a 23, he wound up scoring third highest on the total score after losing points for, creating tension,
occasionally blocking ideas by insisting on specific goals, and not always staying 100% on task. The
point being made is that, in order to fully help a group s climate, it extremely important to
acknowledge that while it is necessary to make beneficial contributions, one must bear in mind that it
is still

NFPA 13 Database Analysis
We have a parking garage that is approximately 15 ft high with concrete deck and structural beams up
to 24 in. depth forming bays of approximately 14 ft by 10 ft. The parking a garage has a series of car
hoists to allow for double occupancy of vehicles being stacked one over another. We are trying to
position the sprinklers to avoid clearance issues. What is the occupancy classification for this
application?
We have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard as well as the
2016 edition. Our informal interpretation is that the occupancy classification is Extra Hazard (Group
2).
This was specifically addressed in the 2016 edition of the NFPA 13 standard. The 2013 edition does
not address car stackers. New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The base requirement is Section 8.6.6.1 that indicates that the clearance between the deflector and the
top of storage shall be 18 in. or greater. There are times where that is impractical where additional
sprinklers have to be provided. This would require sprinklers to be placed on the four corners of the
vehicle. Annex material A.8.5.6.1 addresses this clearance issue that states, The 18 in. clearance does
not apply to vehicles in concrete parking structures. Since that is located in Section 8.5 General, this
applies to all sprinkler types. Parking garages with low height ceilings and piping runs with dry pipe
systems create clearance issues for the sprinklers even without car stackers. This usually involves
higher vehicles such as large SUVs and vans. Even if the vehicle locations are initially specified and
sprinklers are placed accordingly, the striped parking locations can be moved at a later date and
impacting the sprinkler clearances. This application has robust concrete construction and considered
fire resistive. Thus, damage to the structure is not likely with sprinkler protection. The beams in this
structure also create bays that will aid in activation of the sprinklers and contain the heat plume. The
sprinkler system should be able to cool upper layer gas temperatures, prevent flashover, and control
the fire. Sprinkler systems are designed to control the fire and allow time for the responding fire
service to finish the job. Since this application has cars stacked that are not specifically addressed by
the standard in effect, this is worth discussing with the AHJ. As indicated by Section 1.5 Equivalency,
alternative arrangements are acceptable provided that the level of safety is not reduced. There is no
better source for supporting equivalency than a newer edition of the same installation

How Stock Market Operates Paper
Ravipas Chaloenchansa
Econ 735
Dec 11th 2014
How Stock Market Operates It is easy to understand why many people lose a lot of money when they
invest in stock market, because the process of choosing the stock and investing is confusing.
Fortunately, the market itself is not as complicated or confusing as people think. To completely
understand the stock market and how it operates, will potentially help an investor to make good
investment decision. The basic definition of the stock market is the place where anyone can sell and
buy shares of the company. The trading begins when the company decides to make shares available
for public and what you get when you purchase a stock is a percentage ... Show more content on

For example, if expected earnings is good, the stock price will be driven up and then sold after
earnings announcement because the stock value is believed to have already achieved the maximum
point. Investors usually do not receive any of the company s profit even if they are the shareholders of
that company. In some cases, an investor on the big company will be able to receive some of the
company s profits called dividend. However, this does not apply to all companies because they want to
obtain their high profits in order to be able to pay for future growth; this is called keeping cash in
hand. Some investors have preference over another, some are more interested in receiving dividends
than in growth of the company. So the choice of investment will entirely depend on your goals.
Science and Technology as Predictors of Stock Performance In this second paragraph, our main focus
is on how science, technology and stock performance related are and how science is used as a stock
performance s indicator. To begin, one of the most important objects that I found about technology
analysis is to completely understand how investing in stock market or technological change can create
economic benefits. However, the research study form Zhen Deng, shows that the relationship between
investing in economic performance country and are comparatively insufficient. This paragraph is
intended to help readers to understand how

Natural System And Unique Design Of Permaculture
Natural System Unique Design of Permaculture Sustainability is the idea that creat[ing] and
maintain[ing] the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony [will]
support present and future generations (Learn About Sustainability). For these reasons, sustainability
is an important part of our world today. We are making an effort to move towards sustainability by
using permaculture. Permaculture can be described as designing constructed ecosystems that serve the
needs of human populations without degrading our natural environment (Cruz Osentowski).
Permaculture originally emerged in Australia in the late 1970 s by Bill Mollison and David
Holmgren...Permaculture is a unique blending of traditional practices and scientific knowledge, of
ageless wisdom and innovative ideas, of time tested strategies and useful information from around the
world (Cruz Osentowski). Permaculture is unique because it is a natural system that has a one of a
kind design. It is also important to note that a cornerstone of permaculture philosophy is to turn
problems into opportunities, and apparent wastes into resources (Cruz Osentowski). When thinking
about permaculture we can think about to things what actually takes place in nature and what happens
in imitating nature (Cruz Osentowski). When planning to start in Permaculture there are various parts
of the natural system and design that need to be taken into account, such as, site observation and

  • 2. Christopher Reeves Definition Of A Hero The definition of a hero has been conflicted upon throughout time. The definition of a hero changes from person to person. Some people will define a hero as someone who is courageous. Others define heroes as selfless. But heroes are all around us. They could be standing next to us. The simplest things can transform an ordinary, everyday person into a hero. Heroes are people who are ready to help at a moment s notice. Everyday people can be heroes. One example is firefighters. They go into buildings that are ablaze to save people. Firefighters go in knowing that there is a risk that there is a chance that they might not come out again. They know that the people inside the building are more important than they are. They don t have to save those people s lives, but they choose to. Firefighters also have to put out the fire. This can be really dangerous because a fire can weaken a building s structure. Firefighters don t sit around deciding if they should put out the fire, they know that it is their job to put out the fire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyday people can be heroes when they do the right things. There are many characteristics that can make someone a hero. Characteristics such as self confidence can transform an ordinary person into a hero. Self confidence means to believe in yourself. • 3. Poverty and the American Dream The American Dream as defined by James Truslow Adams in 1931 is a national ethos of the United States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work. Truslow states life should be worse and poorer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. What he wanted to contribute was broad interpretive sensibility that emphasized important historical themes. For Adams, no theme was more important than what he called that American dream of better, richer, and happier life for all our of citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thought and welfare of the world. That dream of hope has been present since we became and independent nation, each generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save that dream from the forces which appeared to be overwhelming it. While Adams may have the coined the phrase of the American Dream, it is apparent that the notion of the Dream was a prevalent long before the term was engrained in the oral culture of American society. The roots of the American Dream is evident even in the composition of the Declaration of Independence. Written in 1776, Cullen suggests that the Declaration of Independence is directly worded to invoke a spirit of the anything is possible at any moment. He states: Maybe saying that the Declaration is central in contemporary American life seems odd, since a few of us have actually read the entire document. And those of us who have can t help but notice that this manifesto, like so much else about American Revolution, is remote, even tedious. The Key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Character Analysis Of Dunstan Ramsey In Fifth Business By... Whilst reading the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, Dunstan Ramsey has developed many relationships with the characters whom are mentioned in the novel. One who stands out particularly is his relationship with Mary Dempster, the lady he has known for decades. As it is shown in the novel the author Davies has a theme of displaying different archetypes for each one of his characters, including Mary Dempster who identifies to be The Innocent . Examples include when she was hit in the head with a snowball, giving items out to the townspeople and losing her son Paul at the young age of ten years old. Ever since Mary Dempster was introduced in the early pages of the novel it was clear that she would become a prime target because of her certain lack of knowledge. However, it became more evident when Percy Boyd Staunton threw a snowball at Dunstable who evidently ducked it which resulted to pregnant Mary getting hit on the back of the head. I stepped briskly-not running, but not dawdling- in front of the Dempsters just as Percy threw, and the snowball hit Mrs Dempster on the back of the head [10]. This is where it all went downhill for Mary Dempster, due to the injury to the brain and the sudden birth of her premature son that same evening. This is where she truly started to lose her head. ... When a child enters the formal education system, unfortunately this rich environment of learning by doing often disappears. It presents a problem to be solved, allows the learner to make choices, shows the consequences of those choices, and builds confidence in the learner when the problem is mastered. There are five major characteristics of simulations: Simulations are problem based units of learning that are set in motion by a particular task, issue, policy, crisis, or problem. The problems to be addressed by the participant may be either implicit or explicit, depending on the nature of the simulation. The issues inherent in the simulation are not textbook problems or questions in which answers are cut and dried and determined quickly. Participants carry out functions associated with their roles and the settings in which they find themselves. The outcomes of the simulation are not determined by chance or luck. Instead, participants experience consequences that follow from their own actions. Participants experience reality of function to the extent that they fulfill their roles conscientiously and in a professional manner, executing all the rights, privileges and responsibilities associated with the role. • 7. Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3). Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to light, its source real or fairly ... They can help connect people with places, and through this loyalty, a sense of civic pride can be seen. Furthermore, the multi billion dollar industry sports produces effects that can impact individuals and communities. In recent years dozens of new sports stadiums have been built throughout the country, with major funding coming from public subsidies. The aim of this paper is to analyze the positive and negative impacts that come with these subsidies. The issue at hand, however, is that power has shifted from the cities to the teams themselves. Professional athletic organizations have started taking advantage of cities by threatening to relocate unless they get public subsidies for expensive stadium renovations and construction. The AFL s president, Samuel Gompers, was convinced that unions open to workers of all types of skills within a given industry, called industrial unions, were too undisciplined to withstand the tactics that both government and management had used to break American unions in the past. The answer, was craft unions, each limited to the skilled workers in a single trade. This group, which became the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), grew so powerful that the AFL expelled the ten CIO unions in 1937. The AFL and CIO continued as separate organizations during World War II but were reunited in 1955. The AFL CIO was now the nation s dominant labor organization, but this achievement was already being undermined by changes in the American economy and work force most notably, the growing loss of jobs in the manufacturing sector where unions had been strongest. In 1945 nearly one third of American workers belonged to a union; by 1990 the proportion had fallen to less than one fifth. The IWW was founded in Chicago by a convention of delegates from workers unions representing 40 different trades. Among the unions that played principal roles in its establishment were the old Western Federation of Miners, the American Labor Union, and the Socialist Trade and Labor Alliance, composed of trade unions and socialist groups. The outstanding labor leaders at the founding convention included Eugene Victor Debs, William Dudley Haywood, and Daniel De Leon. The aim of the IWW was to include in its membership the entire industrial population of the U.S. The organizational plan provided for seven departments: agriculture, mining, transportation, building, manufacturing, public service, and distribution of foodstuffs. Comparison of Mid Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My First Sonne The above poems are written by 3 different people and on reading them they seem to be about very different things. But at heart, they are about death and the pain that appears afterwards. Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break is a memory of his four year old brother s death. Gillian Clarke s The Field Mouse is about death in a political conflict compared to a death in nature. Finally On My First Sonne by Ben Johnson is about the death of his son and the religious view of the situation. Both Heaney and Johnson s poems are about the death of a close loved one and how it is dealt with emotionally and in reality. On looking at the title of Heaney s poem, you almost ... After this event he also feels that you shouldn t get to attached to something as he says As what he loves may never like too much. This obviously means that whatever you love, don t get attached to it, as you will end up losing it. Clarke, on the other hand, has a more general observation to death and tells it from the sort of view most people might have on war or conflict. Like Heaney s Mid Term Break, when you see the title of Clark s poem you assume that it will be a happy poem about a cute and cuddly mouse. This theory is almost exactly the opposite of what the poem is actually about. You can see that the poem is about the death and destruction in Bosnia War and compares it to the death and destruction that occurs while harvesting. This poem again is a memory like Mid Term Break, and at the end it shows her feeling and attitude towards war and violence. You can tell that her feelings are negative since she writes the line my neighbour turned stranger . This I think means that people you once were good friends with would now become your enemy. So unlike the other 2 poems where it tells that death is a natural occurrence, this poem tells that a person s main enemy is another person that could possibly be your best friend. Human Rights Against Human Rights Human rights are the internal and external privileges which all humans are considered given including freedom to live, liberty, equality, and a fair trial, freedom from slavery and torture, and freedom of thought and expression. But, even the privileges that our countries and life itself give us can be violated or even taken away. A more specific example is the death penalty or capital punishment, which is the most severe government ruling of executing a convicted criminal. This practice is extremely common in America and other countries around the world. Many argue that the execution of a human life is not a human rights violation using hammurabi s code of an eye for an eye, a life for a life and that capital murders deserve to be capitally murdered. But considering constitutional issues, precedents and other global issues, the death penalty is a human rights violation. Justice is not served, when one kills in the name of justice. America s stance on capital punishment is at a 62% 38% for the death penalty, but due to recent allegations and decisions the support for the death penalty is rapidly decreasing across the United States. • 23. The Nature Of Face Processing Impairments PY3003 Autistic Spectrum Disorders What is the nature of face processing impairments in autism? Student ID: 1310023 Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka, 2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed. Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010). Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people process faces in a qualitatively different manner. Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could ameliorate these difficulties. Understanding of the deficits causes is only possible in the context of typical face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aboriginal Australians, even those who do not themselves speak an Aboriginal language, show great pride in their language as part of their cultural identity (McKay, 299). As such, it is necessary for schools to display recognition of each language s intrinsic cultural value and linguistic complexity and uniqueness (Gale, 282). • 37. Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is... Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students. Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is clear and transferable. Teenage hormones seek gratification, this may become addicting; they sort of become sexual predators. Many cultural influences remind these young people of teenage sexuality. Proscribing sexual activity for teens has gone to the personal liberation and media saturated sex desire. Billboards, commercials, magazines, everywhere you look, sexuality is expressed. Watching a beer commercial has become one of the targets for sexuality because almost all these commercials has a half naked woman trying to seduce a man into drinking their label of beer. Another concern regarding teenage pregnancy is coercion. In California, more than 70,000 babies were born to teenage mothers in 1993, are now charging men in their 20 s who get underage girls pregnant with either statutory rape or lewd sexual activity with a minor. The Urban Institutes states that three quarters of the girls under the age of 14 who are sexually active say they were forced by their first partner to have sex relations. Media attention focuses a lot on teenage pregnancy casting the unmarried teenage mothers as the source of many society s ills. • 42. Group Climate Essay examples Group Climate Group climate consists of the overall sentiment that is displayed within a group. This includes the aspects of honesty, openness, consistency and respect according to Teamwork by Lefasto and Larson. When evaluating the characteristics of group climate in a team, the most prevalent component to examine is trust. Trust yields respect, acknowledgement, cohesiveness, a bridge between cultural differences and above all else, sensitivity to ideas being expressed so a consensus can be reached. However, as pointed out by Teamwork , trust is extremely fragile. If trust can be maintained and not breached, a team has defeated one of the few obstacles that inhibit the team from attaining their ultimate goal. This is because trust ... If these two ingredients exist, then the other aspects of trust should fall into place. Members should be eager to attend meetings, contribute ideas and prepare delegated assignments. In order to evaluate group climate and the level of trust present, we devised this tool (refer to climate tool). By using this tool, we specifically examined different aspects of what we considered beneficial criteria to effective group climate and detrimental criteria to effective group climate. The tool was divided into two sections in order to evaluate both good and bad displays of climate by individual members, as opposed to, simply measuring all positive aspects and not taking into account harmful communication. Team members were graded by subtracting their detrimental points accrued from their beneficial points. A maximum score would have been a 24. While Aaron clearly contributed the most to his group and scored the highest on beneficial points with a 23, he wound up scoring third highest on the total score after losing points for, creating tension, occasionally blocking ideas by insisting on specific goals, and not always staying 100% on task. The point being made is that, in order to fully help a group s climate, it extremely important to acknowledge that while it is necessary to make beneficial contributions, one must bear in mind that it is still ... • 44. NFPA 13 Database Analysis We have a parking garage that is approximately 15 ft high with concrete deck and structural beams up to 24 in. depth forming bays of approximately 14 ft by 10 ft. The parking a garage has a series of car hoists to allow for double occupancy of vehicles being stacked one over another. We are trying to position the sprinklers to avoid clearance issues. What is the occupancy classification for this application? We have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard as well as the 2016 edition. Our informal interpretation is that the occupancy classification is Extra Hazard (Group 2). This was specifically addressed in the 2016 edition of the NFPA 13 standard. The 2013 edition does not address car stackers. New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The base requirement is Section 8.6.6.1 that indicates that the clearance between the deflector and the top of storage shall be 18 in. or greater. There are times where that is impractical where additional sprinklers have to be provided. This would require sprinklers to be placed on the four corners of the vehicle. Annex material A.8.5.6.1 addresses this clearance issue that states, The 18 in. clearance does not apply to vehicles in concrete parking structures. Since that is located in Section 8.5 General, this applies to all sprinkler types. Parking garages with low height ceilings and piping runs with dry pipe systems create clearance issues for the sprinklers even without car stackers. This usually involves higher vehicles such as large SUVs and vans. Even if the vehicle locations are initially specified and sprinklers are placed accordingly, the striped parking locations can be moved at a later date and impacting the sprinkler clearances. This application has robust concrete construction and considered fire resistive. Thus, damage to the structure is not likely with sprinkler protection. The beams in this structure also create bays that will aid in activation of the sprinklers and contain the heat plume. The sprinkler system should be able to cool upper layer gas temperatures, prevent flashover, and control the fire. Sprinkler systems are designed to control the fire and allow time for the responding fire service to finish the job. Since this application has cars stacked that are not specifically addressed by the standard in effect, this is worth discussing with the AHJ. As indicated by Section 1.5 Equivalency, alternative arrangements are acceptable provided that the level of safety is not reduced. There is no better source for supporting equivalency than a newer edition of the same installation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investors usually do not receive any of the company s profit even if they are the shareholders of that company. In some cases, an investor on the big company will be able to receive some of the company s profits called dividend. However, this does not apply to all companies because they want to obtain their high profits in order to be able to pay for future growth; this is called keeping cash in hand. Some investors have preference over another, some are more interested in receiving dividends than in growth of the company. So the choice of investment will entirely depend on your goals.
