3M Company’s Liquidity Essay
The liquidity position of a company can be evaluated using several ratios which evaluate short term
assets and liabilities and a firm s ability to settle short term debts (Gibson, 2011). These ratios can
provide insight into a firm s ability to repay its debts in the short term (Gibson, 2011). In turn they
suggest a firm s capacity for debt satisfying capabilities into the future (Gibson, 2011). This paper will
use financial statement data as cited in Gibson (2011) from 3M Company (3M) to better understand
liquidity measures to evaluate a firm s total liquidity position. The following paper will focus on
various liquidity calculations, their meaning, and their interpretation relative to 3M. Finally, an overall
view of 3M s liquidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, an improvement in age of receivables for a single company over multiple periods
suggests a company is becoming more efficient or effective at managing its receivables (Bujaki
Durocher, 2012; Gibson, 2011).
Accounts receivable turnover is the second method by which a company s trade receivables liquidity
can be evaluated (Gibson, 2011). Žager et al. (2012) noted turnover ratios should be as high as
possible as this indicates a firm s ability to convert its assets more often. 3M s accounts receivable
turnover for years 2007 and 2008 is shown in Exhibit 2. In 2007, 3M turned its accounts receivable
over 7.12 times and 7.70 times in 2008. This calculates into a turnover of its accounts receivable every
51.28 days in 2007 and 47.38 days in 2008. The increase in accounts receivable turnover times per
year (decrease in number of days to turnover accounts receivables) from 2007 to 2008 is a positive
trend for 3M. It suggests, along with the prior calculation, the management of receivables is likely to
be improving in efficiency.
A company must pay attention to the number of days of its sales it holds in inventory to determine the
amount of time it will take to convert the inventory on hand into sales (Gibson, 2011). As shown in
Exhibit 3, 3M increased from 81.74 days of sales in inventory in 2007 to 82.20 days in 2008. At face
value, an increase suggests a slight negative trend for 3M as it is holding onto more inventory, taking
longer to sell

Alain De Botton Analysis
Alain de Botton states that humorists is not only to entertain its readers, but to convey a deeper
meaning that is dangerous or impossible to state directly.... which serves a vital function in society .
Alain de Botton is right! Humor is an important part of society because it freely brings light to topics
that are often ignored in society. Humorists are an important part of our society, not only does one get
entertainment from it, but like De Bottom states, also draw attention to topics that are usually ignored
and create a more understanding towards them. No more dry and factual information given out. The
ability for humorists to draw attention to topics without getting in trouble for them helps them
overcome their limits and break a barrier that society has built. Stand up comedies are huge example
of how humorist is an important part of society. Comedian gives audience something to laugh about
while educating and making one think about real issues in society like racism, religion, drugs, etc.

Al Assad s Conflicting Interest On Syria
Bashar Al Assad s Conflicting Interest in Syria Syria is a country located in the Middle East that is
neighbored by Turkey and Iraq. The leader of Syria, Bashar Al Assad, has been the president of Syria
for 16 years and counting. From the looks of it, he has no intent of backing down his power either.
Syria has been led by Assad s family for many of years; Bashar Al Assad s father, Hafez Al Assad, was
Syria s leader from 1971 and died in office in the year 2000. It was then, when Bashar Al Assad took
over office as President of Syria in 2000 and has kept office to present day. Bashar Al Assad has been
to blame for the devastation of his own country, Syria, and his people. Actions should be taken place
in order to rehabilitate Syria from Bashar Al Assad and his actions against the people of Syria and
other countries. Bashar Al Assad caused the downfall of Syria by abusing his power to start conflict
with his people and other countries, which could possibly be resolved in many ways. Syria has
undergone very tragic situations such as, an ongoing civil war since 2011 that is still active today. This
civil war was caused mostly by the actions of Syria s current president Bashar Al Assad. When
protesters in Syria demanded long overdue reforms in the political system, President Assad saw this as
an illegal revolutionary effort to overthrow Syria and its citizens (Carter). Assad felt that what he was
doing was legitimate and the Syrian citizens were wrong which therefore

The Death Of Ivan And By Leo Tolstoy
In The Death of Ivan Ilych , Leo Tolstoy purposely focuses on Gerasim, the assistants Butler, to
establish a transformation in Ivan Ilych that makes him realize the true meaning of life. Gerasim is
used as an important tool through the events that lead up until Ivan s death. Through Gerasim, the
author conveys the themes of death, family, and propriety by emphasizing the impact that he brings
upon Ivan s life. Gerasim acts as a guide in the shift of Ivan s perception by helping Ivan change his
views and perspective towards death which no other person could have done if Gerasim was removed
from the novelette.
Ivan Ilych does not live his last years before death to his fullest potential and it is as if he is not living
at all. Ivan can not bring himself to accept death because he believes he does not deserve to die and
questions why this is happening to him. Ivan is not ready to face death so soon since his life is going
as planned. Ivan is lying to himself about him dying and tries to avoid the word death by saying it, He
went to his study, lay down, and once again was left alone with it. Face to face with It, unable to do
anything with It. Simply look at It and grow numb with horror (Tolstoy 80). Ivan is referring to death
as it because he can not fully grasp the idea that death is really and seriously a lot closer than he
expected. Instead of Ivan living each remaining years like it is his last, he makes himself miserable
and depressed by the thought of dying.

A Review of the Effects of Steroid Hormones and Neuropeptides on Social Emotional Behavior
Bos, Peter A., Panksepp, Jaak, Bluthé, Rose Marie, van Honk, Jack (2011). Acute effects of steroid
hormones and neuropeptides on human social emotional behavior: A review of single administration
studies. Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology 33 (2012) 17 35.
1. Introduction/Background Information The discovery of hormones and their function has been
relatively recent. The term was first coined by Professor Earnest Starling in 1905. He derived the word
from the Greek meaning to arouse or excite. However, the idea of the role hormones could be traced
back as far as ancient Greece. Though Hippocrates theory on humors has been refuted, the ... Show

The neuro developmental effects of these chemicals are comparatively well known, while their impact
on human conduct has yet to be fully comprehended.
2. Goals of the study The main goal of this study was to review all of the placebo controlled single
hormone administration studies addressing human social emotional behavior, involving the peptides
oxytocin and vasopressin, and the steroids testosterone and estradiol. This research gives insight into
the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human
behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed a theoretical
model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional behavior in
animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of emotional and behavioral
disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics of these irregularities
include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or intellectual factors;
persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or depression (gadoe.org).
The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural mechanisms of supplemental
hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a placebo. Research into human
behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future generations and their
interrelations.

Narrative Family Therapy Paper
According to Winek (2010) narrative family therapy has several interventions that are used. Listening
to the family and showing interested in getting to know the members of the family as people and in
making sure that the problem does not trick us into mistaking them for it (Metcalf, 2011). Questions
are used as a way generate experience rather than to gather information. Asking questions can lead to
separating person from problem , identifying preferred directions, and creating alternative stories to
support these directions. Externalization is a process of separating the person from identifying with the
problem. The person is not the problem; the problem is the problem. Externalizing conversations can
lead clients in recognizing times

How Did Ernest Hemingway Influenced By Ernest Hemingway
From Hemingway s outlandish family, to his principal influencers, it is understood that these are the
key inspirations for his triumph in the writing realm. People either adored Hemingway or had a strong
hatred for him. Hemingway connects to his writing in a way that no other author of his time period
could, which is shown throughout his writing. A substantial part of Hemingway s life was in the war,
whether that was fighting or just helping out around the trenches. He did all of these things and still
had a longing to travel the world. Ernest Hemingway was an excessively influential author to the
overall modernism literary movement. He had a unique childhood and an extraordinary overall life.

Hemingway s attitude
Hemingway s attitude was a prominent part of him which determined many people s perceptions of
him. One bizarre thing about Hemingway was that he didn t want a biography written during his
lifetime and hoped that no one would write one until a century after his death. Three years before he
died, he wrote in his will that none of his many letters were allowed to ever be published. But in the
years since his death, Hemingway has had more written about him than any other American writer in
the twentieth century. Hemingway was the kind of guy to tell something like it was. His sentences
usually were not too complicated and he encompassed many stories by means of repetition (Adams).
Hemingway also had a malevolent side to him. If he thought a women were not likeminded to him, he
would threaten to take his own life (Adams). He once boasted of shooting a dog in such a way as to
ensure it would take days to bleed to death (Adams). After going through this phase of having a horrid
sense of humor, he started to tell everyone what to do. Hemingway had arrived; he saw himself as one
of the patriarchs of American literature, young as he was. He began to be everyone s papa, but not
often a benevolent one. He

Social, Economic And Political Processes
In New Zealand, there is a forever existing gap of inequalities seen in the health care system between
Maori and non Maori today. There are particular factors that influence this gap such as historical,
social, economic and political processes, which are the main contributors to inequalities and
disparities in the Maori health status today. This essay will discuss how these factors may influence
the care I provide in my practice as a midwife, backed up with research and links to the Treaty of
Waitangi. Then will go on to discussing protective factors that will possibly reduce these disparities
and what my biases and assumptions are when providing care for Maori women.
Maori originally lived primarily in rural communities, this is before the Treaty of Waitangi was signed
and their land started being confiscated. This loss of land led to the loss of employment which forced
the Maori to migrate their whanau to towns and cities. This is somewhat opposite to today s problems
whereas Maori can no longer afford to live in the cities and are being pushed back out rurally.
According to Housing New Zealand reports (September, 2008) the rise in house prices are too high for
the average Maori whanau to afford, so they are moving further away from the primary health care
providers and other facilities into poorer homes of lesser quality. Furthermore Maori fertility rates
continue to rise and so do their mortality rates which according to Ellison Loschmann and Pearce
(2006) lead to

Essay On Late Modernism
Late Modernism Reborn? In our world of ideas, different philosophical movements emerge from time
to time and some of these movements completely alter the entire society and the way we interact with
our environment. One such philosophical movement, modernism, virtually revolutionized both our
society and culture, and also the graphic design world. With the emergence of the
Swiss Style, our typographic understanding changed from subjective to objective. Clean, sans serif
typefaces replaced the earlier, more personal and complicated typefaces. Strict, structured design was
achieved with the use of grid systems. After a period of simple and clean graphic design, post
modernism emerged and rejected the concepts of late modernism. They adopted ... Show more content

While this overly simplified system was adopted by so many in so little time as a result of this very
simplicity, it does not reflect the true idea behind late modernism; because late modernism does not
intend to take the designer out of the equation, it wants to alter the world around us and humanize our
surroundings. First of all, late modernism does not support the idea of making the designer irrelevant
to the design work. When it emerged, Swiss Style supported using simple typefaces, sans serif and
making clean, but powerful designs. You may notice most designer using simple fonts such as
Helvetica while designing logos, roadside signs or posters. They use the
Helvetica font, but it is not because they want to make their designs more boring or non artistic. The
use of such a simple font is for one purpose only, to make their designs more objective and less
suggestive in a sense. Use of elaborate and overly decorated fonts can lead to the over personalization
of typography. While the idea of using a strict set of typefaces could seem extremely restrictive on the
graphic designer, it is nonetheless necessary. As the Experimental Jetset suggests, in

The Gap Between Development And Underdevelopment
In Walter Rodney s book he emphasizes the difference between development and underdevelopment.
According to Rodney, development is defined as a many sided process involving individuals, social
classes, and society as a whole. At the level of the individual it s represented by increased skill, greater
freedom, creativity, self discipline, responsibility and material well being. Rodney paid more attention
to material well being, freedom and skill at this individual representation. For Rodney the individual
development is directly linked to the development of the state. For the second side of development,
social class/group, Rodney states that development implies an increasing capacity to regulate both
internal and external relationships. For the society as a whole, development shows how man has the
ability to overcome downfalls and better their lives through making use of the earth s resources
available to him. In Rodney s book, he points out how Africa fits into these definitions of
development, but more so how they fit into the definition of underdevelopment.
Developed states are characterized by being highly industrialized, they have low unemployment,
improved social services, advanced farming industries with the technology to produce more in less
time and with fewer people. Underdevelopment should not be understood as the opposite or lack of
development but the very low level of development of a particular state when in comparison to other
states (especially wealthier

Homeless People Position Essay
One of the problems at hand that not only us, in the United States have but, all around the world in
different countries have, is homeless people.
According to Social Solutions there are 564,708 people in the United States that are homeless as of
2016. 15% of the homeless are chronically homeless, which means an individual who has disability
and has experienced homelessness for a year or longer. 35% are families who can t afford housing, 8%
of the homeless are veterans due to poverty and overcrowding in government housing, and the rest of
the homeless are single young adults who either got rejected for being who they are or there was
conflict and they ran away.( Social Solutions) The National Alliance to End Homelessness explains,
Homeless youth are less likely to spend time in the same places as homeless people who are in an
older age range. They are often less willing to disclose that they re experiencing homelessness or may
not even identify as homeless. They also may work harder to try to blend in with peers who aren t
homeless. (The National Alliance to End Homelessness).
So even though people don t see homeless young adults as often as they see middle age ones or older,
they re there, they just try to blend in as one of their peers. Compare to 2014 the USA is doing great.

Why Is Deer Hunting Important In Australia
One of the biggest challenges for hunters worldwide is hunting for deer in Australia. As a result,
numerous professional associations, as well as hunting clubs, have sprung up in these locations where
deer hunting is increasing in popularity. There are many locations all over Australia where creative
sport hunters can pursue any of the 6 native species, providing that they act responsibly and
considerably to the wild animals in the hunting area. Knowledge is vital for successful deer hunting in
Australia along with expertise, ethics, and a strong passion for the natural environment.
The Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, from 1860 to 1900, was in charge of the introduction of at
least 26 varieties of deer all for the purpose of liberation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A number of them are descendants of the initial releases that have widened their range. On the other
hand, some have had a reduced distribution. Numerous areas have seen recent populations established
by deer that have escaped from modern deer farms or from secret releases. Irrespective of where they
originated, the population of deer in the 21st century in Australia is higher than ever and a growing
number of hunters are appreciating more every day.
In Australia, there are 6 varieties of deer that are considered permitted for hunting. The sambar deer is
one of the most commonplace deer and they are mostly found in parts of Victoria and New South
Wales and they are expanding their range to other parts of Australia. Compared to other kinds of deer,
the sambar deer are tougher to hunt due to their low density population along with their ability to
stand completely still for extended periods, which makes eluding hunters and predators much

Third Baron De La Warr
Lord De La Warr
Born on July 9th, 1577, Thomas West, 3rd Baron de la Warr , son of Thomas West, 2nd Baron de la
Warr was, by profession, an English American politician, and for whom many of America s landmarks
and even the state Delaware were named for, as a result of his multiple considerable achievements.
West served under Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, in the Royal English military. West was levied
with charges of treason after it was discovered that he had apparently supported Essex s less than
successful insurrection, having its roots in disagreements with Queen Elizabeth s leadership. Soon
afterward, however, West was acquitted of the charges raised against him, in preparation for the task

He also outfitted 3 separate ships, arming and reinforcing both the men and the ships themselves from
his own personal wealth, all of which were tasked with the protection and garrisoning of Jamestown
and English settlements alike and in the area. Many historians accredit the success of Jamestown to
West, but most realize that if it were not for the introduction and popularity of tobacco in England,
Jamestown would have likely failed anyway, considering the original intent of the colony was solely
the ascertainment of gold, of which there was none in the area. All of these acts contributed a great
deal to the safety and longevity of early colonies though, that which without, Jamestown and possibly
other colonies might not have survived. Considering Jamestown was one of the main and most
consequential settlements in American history, the effect that West had on today s society was actually
huge. In comparison, had West not taken it upon himself to outfit this colony and its people, there may
very well had never been a United States. After the extent of his service to the crown in Virginia, West

Achilles Analysis
Hector is standing outside of Troy as the only Trojan left. Hector is too ashamed to join the other
Trojans in their retreat because of his previous orders for them to camp outside although Priam begs
him to come inside. Hector stood firm as Achilles approached him and Hector knows that Achilles has
come to fight by the evil look in Achilles eyes. Hector is willing to fight and will not go down without
putting up a fight for his home. Hector at first tries to negotiate with the great warrior, Achilles,
because he knows he doesn t stand a chance in battle but Achilles does not even consider any of the
negotiations because Achilles wants revenge for the death of Patroklos. Hector realized that and gave

And ran, leaving the gates behind, with Achilles on his tail, confident in his speed. You have seen a
falcon in a long smooth dive, attacking a fluttering dove, far below in the hills. The falcon screams,
swoops, and plunges in its lust for prey, so Achilles swooped and Hector trembled in the shadow of
Troy s wall. (156 167). This simile is about the chase between Hector and Achilles. Homer uses this
simile brilliantly whereas he compares Achilles the great warrior to the ruthless bird, falcon, which
will get its prey. Homer compares this chase to a predator prey situation, just like a falcon and a dove,
eventually, the predator will catch up to its prey and attack. Just like Achilles will eventually do when
he catches his prey, Hector. Zeus debates whether he should save Hector or not but the goddess Athena
persuades Zeus to let be because Hector s time has come. Achilles knows the weak points of the armor
that Hector is armed with and thrusts his spear through Hector s throat. While Hector is nearing his
death, he pleads with Achilles so that his body can be sent back to the Trojans for a proper burial. Just
like how the falcon leaves its prey after devouring what it wants, the falcon leaves the body left to rot,
as what Achilles did with Hector where he let the dogs and birds maul at the dead body. Achilles then
tied Hector s body to the back of his chariot and drags it around through the dirt

Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany
For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic
ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently they
exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as Brittany
comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians and linguists
alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily because of three
rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and after the French
Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally independent Brittany stem
back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each governed by its own duke but still
ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship between the duke of Brittany and the
king of France, however, started to become tense in the fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels
over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in
the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and
then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The Creation of Brittany, 8). In an attempt to retain some form of
independence from the king, or to at least achieve power more significant than that of a vassal, John
IV set out to gain the allegiance of his duchy (Jones, The Creation of

Essay Ecstasy
Ecstasy is one of the street names for MDMA (the chemical name is N Methyl 3,4
methylenedioxyamphetamine). MDMA is an amphetaminelike drug with hallucinogenic properties.
People taking the drug get a sense of increased energy, euphoria and a curious feeling of empathy.
While we know something about the short term effects of ecstasy use, we do not have a very good
understanding of the long term effects. The short term effects of the drug are related to the amount
taken. If the dose used is relatively high, there is a danger in the short term of seizures and heart
rhythm abnormalities. Ecstasy also can cause an increase in body temperature (called hyperthermia).

An MDMA overdose is characterized by high blood pressure, faintness, panic attacks, and, in more
severe cases, loss of consciousness, seizures, and a drastic rise in body temperature. MDMA
overdoses can be fatal, as they may result in heart failure or extreme heat stroke.
The effects start after about 20 minutes and can last for hours. There is a rush feeling followed by a

Stress In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant And The...
Throughout time, the authors of the world have experienced different forms of stresses. The type of
stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an
Elephant and The Next War, the authors moral perspectives are shaped by the economic stress of the
great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the authors is
shaped by the stress created by the Great War. The stress created by the Great Depression and the
Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways.
The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people
do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them. The
author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major global
events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and the Great
Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches because this what

When the clams were first discovered in August 2010, the town acted immediately. Another huge
Asian clam infestation had occurred in Lake Tahoe, which allowed Lake George to take advantage of
the latecomer effect and analyze how the problem was handled in that area. In lake Tahoe a large
amount of time passed between the point when the clams were discovered until the point where
necessary precautions and plans were made to take action against them. In this time the clams were
able to heavily multiply and thus exacerbate the problem even further. Upon seeing this, Lake George

made by different companies. The Kinect may have more free motion, but the Wii seems
more enjoyable for families to use and have fun.
The Nintendo Entertainment System was introduced in 1985 which became an
instant hit, selling over sixty million units. In 2006, Nintendo introduced the Wii and
with it contained more advanced, revolutionary features. The Wii contained wireless
motion sensitive remote controllers, built in Wi Fi capability (Nintendo), and a lot of
other features that made it the best selling in the world. As for the Kinect; introduced by
the company of Xbox 360 in 2010. With Kinect for the Xbox, you can command and

Case Against Flag Desecration
On August 22nd, 1984 Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested on the grounds of desecrating the American
flag in downtown Dallas, Texas. His trial was held roughly three months later, where Johnson was
then convicted of the crime, sentenced to one year in prison, and forced to pay a fine (Goldstein 37).
After a series of appeal attempts, the decision of Johnson s case was finally reviewed by the Texas
Court of Appeals in 1988 and was then overturned. The court of appeals said that Johnson s actions
were protected by his 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Texas then took that ruling to the
Supreme Court where they ruled again in Johnson s favor saying that Texas law against flag
desecration was unconstitutional and violated first amendment rights. ... Show more content on

Skemp and Weinberg brought Johnson s case before the appeals court on September 26th where they
continued to argue that Johnson s prosecution was in violation of the First Amendment and that since
his actions were symbolic and committed during a political protest that it was acceptable (Goldstein
38). The attorneys also stated the Johnson s flag burning met the test of expression set out by the O
Brien test in Supreme Court case United States v. O Brien of 1967. The test set a number of guidelines
that should be used to decide whether a law that prohibits free speech violates the First Amendment.
The test said that the law in question must be: within the constitutional power of the government to
enact, further an important or substantial government interest and that interest must be unrelated to the
suppression of speech and prohibit no more speech than is essential to further the said interest
(Goldstein 25). John D. Nation responded for Texas saying that Johnson created and explosive
situation by burning the flag, with people angry and yelling, and the demonstration could have easily
led to a physical reaction from those that were nearby and felt offended or opposed. Nation also said
there was a need to preserve our country s flag as a symbol of national unity and strength. Additionally
he argued that burning the flag harmed a person s sense of national identity and that people
assumingly link that with what is represented by the flag and so destroying it could put Johnson in
danger (Goldstein 52). On January 23, 1986, Judge John Vance ruled to uphold Johnson s conviction
on the grounds that it complied with the O Brien test and that the law was to protect Texas interest in
preventing breaches of the peace. On February 7th Johnson then

adopt a gypsy child. This means that until they open adoption internationally again, many children
will not be getting the loving homes they deserve. It s a shame because there are so many people who
want to adopt from there and can give those children a better home than they could ever imagine in

Andrew Jackson Essay Outline
Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States from 1829 to 1837. He was a first
generation American. His actions during the War of 1812, especially his victory against British troops
at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 and the Creek War made him a national hero. He is usually
considered the first modern president. He expanded his role from a mere executive to an active
representative of the people, however his Indian removal policies and unwillingness to consider any
opinions but his own tarnished his reputation.
Andrew Jackson was born by the border of North and South Carolina on March 15, 1767. In 1778 the
Revolutionary War came to the Carolinas and Jackson and his brothers volunteered to fight the British,
however only he would survive the war. At 17, Jackson decided to become a lawyer. In 1787 he
received his license to practice law in several backcountry counties. In December 1787 Jackson was
appointed at a public prosecutor. For the next two years, he practiced law in Nashville and
Jonesborough and traveled to several frontier forts. At one frontier fort, he met Rachel Donelson

and Rachel would not officially marry until 1794. They did not have children of their own but took in

Criticism Of Literary Criticism
I m writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric
which brings about the involvement of the author, content and the audience. The requirement for
rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing.
Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it.
The study helps in providing some essential information for problem solving and making the right
decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to break
down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017).
The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling s thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot
development and the ability to tell the narrative. Rowling s plans for the learning magic serves as a
major role in the society of the wizard world. The text credibility was based on strict rules that
governed the logics in the plot. The compelling cast of the characters was life in her thoughts since she
never failed in her imagination of the story she was meant to write. The text may not be showing
everything but there is some confidence that the author really knows everything. The need to target
specific audience is necessary for marketing purposes. A strategy for targeting audience is by
identifying the lucrative audience and finding ways to access and influence it. My strategy would be

Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass
Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal
growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as
Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age
theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union,
and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to
cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s
work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is
unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square
series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work
is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal
interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality.
As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to
Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. She self
named the process as Kiln Transformed Glass. Culler s daring in functionality directly affected the
process she now embraces. This process enables her to combine three forms of glass art; Kiln Formed

Life is lived under the assumption that every decision that is made is correct. Fallacies and cognitive

In the Columbia s Last Flight, Langewieshe questions NASA s hubris before and during the scheduled

Layna Monologue
I knew the moment I saw her bent over the hood of her car on the side of the road that Layna was
trouble. It looked like the opening scene from a porno a shapely blonde in a short skirt waiting for me
to tow her sports car out of a ditch and dirty up that sweet, pure body with my filthy mechanic hands. I
could hear the bow chicka bow wow soundtrack in my head. Then she opened her sassy mouth and
everything about my reclusive, sensible, quiet life changed because Layna is not reclusive, sensible, or
quiet. Unfortunately, she s also mine. We both knew it right away, whether we wanted it or not. But
she s got her demons, and I ve got my work cut out for me. She thinks I m big, surly, and
overprotective. She has no idea. Whatever she s running from, I m going to fix. Whatever she needs, I
m going to give her. And the sooner she figures out what she needs is me, the better off we ll both be.

Antagonism In The Things They Carried
The Allegorical Portrayal of Vietnam as the Antagonist in The Things They Carried
War stories old and modern alike are often characterized by morality. Embellished with sensory detail
and loaded with emotion, they appeal to a higher moral purpose that concludes with an uplifting
message, effectively restoring one s faith in humanity and the glimmer hope that accompanies the
grim reality of war. However, in The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien argues the exact opposite. He
warns of stories seeming moral, asserting that true war stories contain no rectitude whatsoever...no
virtue (65). In this way, he defies the traditional war story in favor of creating a non linear timeline
with an overarching theme, a theme that displays no clear morals but rather uncompromising
allegiance to obscenity and evil (66). Although this extreme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Given that post modernism involves an experimental style and a narrative that progresses in different
and contrasting directions, (Bradbury 765) it can be argued that The Things They Carried is a work of
metafiction, which concentrates on story telling and its higher purpose rather than being weighted
down by what is considered to be reality. The epistemological ambivalence regarding the antagonist
especially leads one to note the importance of the deliberate choice made by Tim O Brien to create
this allegorical adversary as opposed to a more tangible villain typical of a war story (43). Had he
chosen to portray the villain as the man he had killed, or Vietnam s army as a whole, his desired effect
to declare a larger anti war message would not have relayed the same powerful impact to his audience.
By representing the war itself through the landscape of Vietnam, O Brien personifies the war through
nature s all consuming course in order to show how war corrupts and consumes, that it stops for no

The Effect Of Enzyme Concentration On Enzyme Lab
In this lab the effect of the enzyme concentration has on the speed of the reaction will be observed.
The amount of oxygen gas produced will be measured to determine the reaction rate. If the enzyme
concentration increases then the reaction rate will also increase. The measure of how fats oxygen is
produced will be how long it takes for the filter paper disk soaked in different concentrations of
catalase to rise to the top. If catalase is exposed to boiling temperature then it will denature.
Catalyst is a general term to represent anything that speeds up a reaction. A biological catalyst speeds
up chemical processes and cannot be used or changed in any way by the reaction. Catalase is a
common enzyme. It is found in almost all living organisms that use oxygen, like bacteria, plants, and
animals. Catalase is responsible for the degradation Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and breaks it down
into water (H2O) and oxygen (O), which are harmless to living organisms. This way its main role is
protecting the cell from damage caused by reactive oxygen species. Hydrogen peroxide is a byproduct
of reactions in our bodies. If it were allowed to build up it would kill us. Enzyme are catabolic protein
that speed up and regulate all chemical reactions within a living organism. Enzymes lower the
activation energy needed, allowing reactions to occur more easily, quickly and more efficiently.
Almost all biochemical reactions within living organisms need enzymes. Enzymes are amino acids

Dark Triad Analysis
Like other employees or human beings, leaders also have their own sets of weaknesses that may prove
to be pernicious to the progress they make while conducting their mandated duties. There is a cluster
of personality traits that are referred to as Dark Triad. According to O Boyle et al. (2012) Dark Triad
personality traits refers to characteristics like selfishness, arrogance, narcissism, Machiavellianism,
and psychopathy. Even though these character traits were effective when applied to certain setups in
the past, they also have the potency to adversely affect the productivity of an organization s
employees. The nature of Dark Triad personality traits is that they do not make room to accommodate

Beethoven Prologue
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN The Hush of Thunder Rock Several gnomes lowered a rowboat into the
bubbly pale purple sea. We piled in and started paddling toward the shore. From my vantage point, I
could see that the island was rather large and egg shaped. The volcanoes were positioned near the
center, and pitted glaciers lined the far side. Once we landed, the captain pulled our tiny craft onto the
sand. Some of the lounging mermaids nodded indignantly at us, as if suggesting we had no right to
intrude on their sunbathing. Then they slowly slithered on their elbows over the sand toward the water
s edge and dove in. I watched as they swam away, flapping their tails in disgust. Some remained and
simply ignored us. Emma laughed. I guess that s our welcoming party. I guess ... Show more content

Aiden. You re bleeding. Don t worry about it. I tripped. I m fine. I dabbed at my forehead with my
sleeve. I wish Cotton was here. I know he d have a handkerchief I could use. Everybody laughed, and
then they abruptly stopped. Their eyes widened and their jaws dropped. What wrong? It s not that bad.
Okay, I ll be honest, it looks way worse than it is. It really doesn t hurt at all, I said. They all began
shaking their heads slowly, from side to side. Their faces were frozen, and their mouths were still ajar.
The captain raised an unsteady hand and pointed at something behind me. I turned around and there
was a gigantic white dragon, lying in a field about a hundred feet away. It had a long snout, large red
eyes, and was covered with armored scales. A pointed horn poked out of the top of its head, and its
powerful limbs looked like massive tree trunks. I jumped back about three feet and squealed, Um . . .

wide, exposing its sharp fangs, and sat back to rest on its

Analysis Of Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen
Britain in the 1950s was rife with many challenges and changes. Whilst the Second World War had
been over for years, war lived in the hearts of the nation. In 1953, Princess Elizabeth became Queen
Elizabeth II, the first female monarch in over 50 years and the ever present struggle of being a woman
in a world of men is referenced in Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen. A kitchen sink drama play, the issues
raised in the play are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s. From abortion to war, and
consequently, immigration, Wesker s play managed to merge the beliefs of two completely different
generations in one play.
David Mathieson states in Radical London in the 1950s, the possibility of Third World War cast a long
shadow over the politics of the 1950s . Many of the characters in The Kitchen came to Britain to
escape the horrors of war, such as Peter, Paul and Frank. Despite the last major war being finished
over a decade previous, there were many wars still being fought across the world with men signing up
to them thanks to the National Service. Moreover, due to the wars, a sundry of people came over to
Britain for a chance at a better life or at least to make money to send over to families in war torn areas
of Europe. However, as immigration increased, so did racial prejudices. This is notable in The Kitchen
through many of the British born characters, Bertha and Violet are just a few. In our version of the
play, Bertha clearly has a hatred of foreigners. Bertha: Don t you

  • 3. 3M Company’s Liquidity Essay The liquidity position of a company can be evaluated using several ratios which evaluate short term assets and liabilities and a firm s ability to settle short term debts (Gibson, 2011). These ratios can provide insight into a firm s ability to repay its debts in the short term (Gibson, 2011). In turn they suggest a firm s capacity for debt satisfying capabilities into the future (Gibson, 2011). This paper will use financial statement data as cited in Gibson (2011) from 3M Company (3M) to better understand liquidity measures to evaluate a firm s total liquidity position. The following paper will focus on various liquidity calculations, their meaning, and their interpretation relative to 3M. Finally, an overall view of 3M s liquidity ... Nonetheless, an improvement in age of receivables for a single company over multiple periods suggests a company is becoming more efficient or effective at managing its receivables (Bujaki Durocher, 2012; Gibson, 2011). Accounts receivable turnover is the second method by which a company s trade receivables liquidity can be evaluated (Gibson, 2011). Žager et al. (2012) noted turnover ratios should be as high as possible as this indicates a firm s ability to convert its assets more often. 3M s accounts receivable turnover for years 2007 and 2008 is shown in Exhibit 2. In 2007, 3M turned its accounts receivable over 7.12 times and 7.70 times in 2008. This calculates into a turnover of its accounts receivable every 51.28 days in 2007 and 47.38 days in 2008. The increase in accounts receivable turnover times per year (decrease in number of days to turnover accounts receivables) from 2007 to 2008 is a positive trend for 3M. It suggests, along with the prior calculation, the management of receivables is likely to be improving in efficiency. A company must pay attention to the number of days of its sales it holds in inventory to determine the amount of time it will take to convert the inventory on hand into sales (Gibson, 2011). As shown in Exhibit 3, 3M increased from 81.74 days of sales in inventory in 2007 to 82.20 days in 2008. At face value, an increase suggests a slight negative trend for 3M as it is holding onto more inventory, taking longer to sell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But in the years since his death, Hemingway has had more written about him than any other American writer in the twentieth century. Hemingway was the kind of guy to tell something like it was. There are particular factors that influence this gap such as historical, social, economic and political processes, which are the main contributors to inequalities and disparities in the Maori health status today. This essay will discuss how these factors may influence the care I provide in my practice as a midwife, backed up with research and links to the Treaty of Waitangi. Then will go on to discussing protective factors that will possibly reduce these disparities and what my biases and assumptions are when providing care for Maori women. Maori originally lived primarily in rural communities, this is before the Treaty of Waitangi was signed and their land started being confiscated. This loss of land led to the loss of employment which forced the Maori to migrate their whanau to towns and cities. This is somewhat opposite to today s problems whereas Maori can no longer afford to live in the cities and are being pushed back out rurally. According to Housing New Zealand reports (September, 2008) the rise in house prices are too high for the average Maori whanau to afford, so they are moving further away from the primary health care providers and other facilities into poorer homes of lesser quality. Furthermore Maori fertility rates continue to rise and so do their mortality rates which according to Ellison Loschmann and Pearce (2006) lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In our world of ideas, different philosophical movements emerge from time to time and some of these movements completely alter the entire society and the way we interact with our environment. One such philosophical movement, modernism, virtually revolutionized both our society and culture, and also the graphic design world. With the emergence of the Swiss Style, our typographic understanding changed from subjective to objective. Clean, sans serif typefaces replaced the earlier, more personal and complicated typefaces. Strict, structured design was achieved with the use of grid systems. After a period of simple and clean graphic design, post modernism emerged and rejected the concepts of late modernism. While this overly simplified system was adopted by so many in so little time as a result of this very simplicity, it does not reflect the true idea behind late modernism; because late modernism does not intend to take the designer out of the equation, it wants to alter the world around us and humanize our surroundings. First of all, late modernism does not support the idea of making the designer irrelevant to the design work. When it emerged, Swiss Style supported using simple typefaces, sans serif and making clean, but powerful designs. You may notice most designer using simple fonts such as Helvetica while designing logos, roadside signs or posters. They use the Helvetica font, but it is not because they want to make their designs more boring or non artistic. The use of such a simple font is for one purpose only, to make their designs more objective and less suggestive in a sense. Use of elaborate and overly decorated fonts can lead to the over personalization of typography. • 18. The Gap Between Development And Underdevelopment In Walter Rodney s book he emphasizes the difference between development and underdevelopment. According to Rodney, development is defined as a many sided process involving individuals, social classes, and society as a whole. At the level of the individual it s represented by increased skill, greater freedom, creativity, self discipline, responsibility and material well being. Rodney paid more attention to material well being, freedom and skill at this individual representation. For Rodney the individual development is directly linked to the development of the state. For the second side of development, social class/group, Rodney states that development implies an increasing capacity to regulate both internal and external relationships. For the society as a whole, development shows how man has the ability to overcome downfalls and better their lives through making use of the earth s resources available to him. In Rodney s book, he points out how Africa fits into these definitions of development, but more so how they fit into the definition of underdevelopment. Developed states are characterized by being highly industrialized, they have low unemployment, improved social services, advanced farming industries with the technology to produce more in less time and with fewer people. Underdevelopment should not be understood as the opposite or lack of development but the very low level of development of a particular state when in comparison to other states (especially wealthier ... West was levied with charges of treason after it was discovered that he had apparently supported Essex s less than successful insurrection, having its roots in disagreements with Queen Elizabeth s leadership. Soon afterward, however, West was acquitted of the charges raised against him, in preparation for the task which would soon be given to him from the Queen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many historians accredit the success of Jamestown to West, but most realize that if it were not for the introduction and popularity of tobacco in England, Jamestown would have likely failed anyway, considering the original intent of the colony was solely the ascertainment of gold, of which there was none in the area. All of these acts contributed a great deal to the safety and longevity of early colonies though, that which without, Jamestown and possibly other colonies might not have survived. Considering Jamestown was one of the main and most consequential settlements in American history, the effect that West had on today s society was actually huge. In comparison, had West not taken it upon himself to outfit this colony and its people, there may very well had never been a United States. This simile is about the chase between Hector and Achilles. Homer uses this simile brilliantly whereas he compares Achilles the great warrior to the ruthless bird, falcon, which will get its prey. • 28. Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently they exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as Brittany comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians and linguists alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily because of three rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and after the French Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally independent Brittany stem back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each governed by its own duke but still ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship between the duke of Brittany and the king of France, however, started to become tense in the fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The Creation of Brittany, 8). In an attempt to retain some form of independence from the king, or to at least achieve power more significant than that of a vassal, John IV set out to gain the allegiance of his duchy (Jones, The Creation of ... In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the authors is shaped by the stress created by the Great War. His trial was held roughly three months later, where Johnson was then convicted of the crime, sentenced to one year in prison, and forced to pay a fine (Goldstein 37). After a series of appeal attempts, the decision of Johnson s case was finally reviewed by the Texas Court of Appeals in 1988 and was then overturned. The court of appeals said that Johnson s actions were protected by his 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Texas then took that ruling to the Supreme Court where they ruled again in Johnson s favor saying that Texas law against flag desecration was unconstitutional and violated first amendment rights. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Skemp and Weinberg brought Johnson s case before the appeals court on September 26th where they continued to argue that Johnson s prosecution was in violation of the First Amendment and that since his actions were symbolic and committed during a political protest that it was acceptable (Goldstein 38). The attorneys also stated the Johnson s flag burning met the test of expression set out by the O Brien test in Supreme Court case United States v. O Brien of 1967. The test set a number of guidelines that should be used to decide whether a law that prohibits free speech violates the First Amendment. The test said that the law in question must be: within the constitutional power of the government to enact, further an important or substantial government interest and that interest must be unrelated to the suppression of speech and prohibit no more speech than is essential to further the said interest (Goldstein 25). John D. Nation responded for Texas saying that Johnson created and explosive situation by burning the flag, with people angry and yelling, and the demonstration could have easily led to a physical reaction from those that were nearby and felt offended or opposed. Nation also said there was a need to preserve our country s flag as a symbol of national unity and strength. Additionally he argued that burning the flag harmed a person s sense of national identity and that people assumingly link that with what is represented by the flag and so destroying it could put Johnson in danger (Goldstein 52). Criticism Of Literary Criticism I m writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric which brings about the involvement of the author, content and the audience. The requirement for rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing. Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it. The study helps in providing some essential information for problem solving and making the right decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to break down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017). The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling s thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot development and the ability to tell the narrative. Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality. As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. The epistemological ambivalence regarding the antagonist especially leads one to note the importance of the deliberate choice made by Tim O Brien to create this allegorical adversary as opposed to a more tangible villain typical of a war story (43). The measure of how fats oxygen is produced will be how long it takes for the filter paper disk soaked in different concentrations of catalase to rise to the top. If catalase is exposed to boiling temperature then it will denature. Catalyst is a general term to represent anything that speeds up a reaction. A biological catalyst speeds up chemical processes and cannot be used or changed in any way by the reaction. Catalase is a common enzyme. It is found in almost all living organisms that use oxygen, like bacteria, plants, and animals. Catalase is responsible for the degradation Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and breaks it down into water (H2O) and oxygen (O), which are harmless to living organisms. This way its main role is protecting the cell from damage caused by reactive oxygen species. Hydrogen peroxide is a byproduct of reactions in our bodies. If it were allowed to build up it would kill us. Enzyme are catabolic protein that speed up and regulate all chemical reactions within a living organism. Enzymes lower the activation energy needed, allowing reactions to occur more easily, quickly and more efficiently. Almost all biochemical reactions within living organisms need enzymes. Enzymes are amino acids made from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Beethoven Prologue CHAPTER SEVENTEEN The Hush of Thunder Rock Several gnomes lowered a rowboat into the bubbly pale purple sea. We piled in and started paddling toward the shore. From my vantage point, I could see that the island was rather large and egg shaped. The volcanoes were positioned near the center, and pitted glaciers lined the far side. Once we landed, the captain pulled our tiny craft onto the sand. Some of the lounging mermaids nodded indignantly at us, as if suggesting we had no right to intrude on their sunbathing. Then they slowly slithered on their elbows over the sand toward the water s edge and dove in. I watched as they swam away, flapping their tails in disgust. Some remained and simply ignored us. Emma laughed. I guess that s our welcoming party. I guess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aiden. You re bleeding. Don t worry about it. I tripped. I m fine. They all began shaking their heads slowly, from side to side. Their faces were frozen, and their mouths were still ajar. The captain raised an unsteady hand and pointed at something behind me. I turned around and there was a gigantic white dragon, lying in a field about a hundred feet away. It had a long snout, large red eyes, and was covered with armored scales. A pointed horn poked out of the top of its head, and its powerful limbs looked like massive tree trunks. I jumped back about three feet and squealed, Um . . . he e elp! The dragon expelled a huge belch and white smoke wafted from its nostrils. Then it yawned wide, exposing its sharp fangs, and sat back to rest on its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whilst the Second World War had been over for years, war lived in the hearts of the nation. In 1953, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II, the first female monarch in over 50 years and the ever present struggle of being a woman in a world of men is referenced in Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen. A kitchen sink drama play, the issues raised in the play are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s. From abortion to war, and consequently, immigration, Wesker s play managed to merge the beliefs of two completely different generations in one play. David Mathieson states in Radical London in the 1950s, the possibility of Third World War cast a long shadow over the politics of the 1950s .
