The Challenge Of The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was one of those amazing marketing strategies you see once in a blue
moon. In the dead heat of summer here comes a challenge to dump ice and water over your head for a
worthy cause. The intent of the challenge was to bring awareness to ALS and to raise money. Most
people donated without knowing what ALS stands for, people could have donated to other causes than
ALS, and even though the marketing was great I disagree with The Challenge. For starters, the hype
of the Ice Bucket Challenge had people accepting to do the challenge with no real concept of what
ALS was. The ALS Association says Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou
Gehrig s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and
the spinal cord. After going through all of my news feeds on Facebook no one ever mentioned this. I
actually had to research ALS to find out what it meant. I found that a lot of people were just doing The

What better time to soak yourself with ice cold water than in the middle of summer when you have
kids home from school and people taking it easy or on vacation. This challenge was easy to get the
entire family involved and have some fun with it. It was hot and humid outside and this was a great
way to not only cool off, but to donate to a worthy cause. The rules are simple; according to the article
called 7 Marketing lessons from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Accept the challenge and get drenched
in ice water or donate to ALS. The challenger picks who gets challenged next. The three and four
word hashtags (#IceBucketChallenge #ALSIceBucketChallenge) made it easy to remember and share.
This also made it very easy for people to post their videos on social media sites and get more people

The Decline of The U.S. Education System Essay
Education in the United States has long been a concerned issue for teachers, parents, and
communities. It is a major political topic, in which government has shown continuous efforts to
compare and evaluate standards from state to state by creating and monitoring various programs for
overall academic improvement across the country.
Proper education has now become a moral necessity in order for individuals and societies to grow and
succeed. Some of the major issues in the U.S. educational system consist of lack of equality in
education, and decline in academic test scores. The U.S. spends more per student than any OECD
nation, and other countries also seemingly invest funds differently than us. In addition, most countries
invest money ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said This is an absolute wake up call for America, The results are
extraordinarily challenging to us and we have to deal with the brutal truth. We have to get much more
serious about investing in education. ( USA Today In ranking, U.S. students trail global leaders, 2010,
para. 4)
While the U.S. has shown minor improvement in the PISA science test scores from 2006 to 2009 there
is still a large margin for improvement needed in all areas. But questions still remain to be answered
as to why there is such a large gap in comparison between the U.S. education and other countries. In
his remarks regarding the release of the PISA results, Secretary Arne Duncan quotes the fact that the
OECD has concluded in their study that the primary issue is not directly related to diversity or
disadvantaged backgrounds of public school students but that Socio economic disadvantage leads
more directly to poor educational performance in the United States than is the case in many other
countries. (Secretary Arne Duncan s Remarks at OECD s Release of the Program for International
Student Assessment (PISA) 2009 Results, December 7, 2010)
In addition OECD concluded that, children from single parent families score much lower in reading
than their peers from two parent or other types of families, even after accounting for socio economic
background.

Compare And Contrast Southern Colonies And New England...
Mariam El Deek APUSH Period 4 Mr. Esperanza 12 September 2016 New England Colonies V.S
Southern Colonies Creating a New World has to start somewhere, even if it means it began separated
between three different colonies. The New England colonies included Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, it was established in the early 1620 s by a religious group,
the Puritans. The southern colonies included Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, and North
Carolina, Virginia was the first successful Southern colony and was established in the early 16th
century. These colonies shared their similarities but also had a lot of differences. While the Colonies

To start it off they were located on opposite sides so they had different climates, the New England
Colony was located in the North so there was stronger and longer winters while in the Southern
Colonies, which was located in the south, so it was hotter and it was practically warm all year round.
That led to different agricultural needs, the southern colony was huge on agriculture because they had
fertile soil so they produced a lot of cash crops and were know for the tobacco, produced and exported
by John Rolfe. Since the New England Colonies didn t have much use for agriculture because they
lacked good soil so there wasn t many crops, they mostly fished, build ships, and traded mostly with
fur. That leads to slavery, since the southern plantations required a lot of work there was a lot more
slaves in the south then the north. Southern Colonies had the largest slave population who worked on
the Slave Plantations, which grew cotton, tobacco, indigo (a purple dye), and other crops. Also
religion was very different, the New England Colonies were strictly Puritans and didn t tolerate other
religions; while the Southern colonies were not dominated by a single religion they were mostly

Methods Of Error Detecting Code
Introduction The most common method of transmitting information include use of bit strings. It s
beyond bounds of possibility to evade errors when data is stored, recovered, operated on or
transmitted. The likely source for this errors include electrical interference, noisy communication
channels, human error or even equipment error and storing data for a very long time on magnetic
tapes.. Important to consider therefore is ensuring liable transmission when large computer files are
transmitted very fast or say when data is sent over a very long distance and to recover data that have
degraded due to long storage on tapes. For a reliable transmission of data, techniques from coding
theory are used. It is done in a such a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
in case this is done, errors will not only be able to detected but also corrected . In short , in case
sufficiently few errors are made in the transmission of a codeword, it becomes very easier to
determine which codeword was sent. the following examples illustrate the idea. Application include
television cameras. Hamming Distance when it comes to information theory, Hamming distance refers
to the number of bits which are the difference between two binary strings. expressed alternatively,, the
distance between two strings A and B is ∑ | Ai Bi |. simply put in a similar way is that it determines
the minimum number of substitutions required to alter one string into the other, or the lowest number
of errors that could have changed one string into the other. large application is in coding theory, more
specifically to block codes, in which the equal length strings are vectors over a finite field. Perfect
Codes Perfect Codes refers to those codes that achieve the Hamming bound .A good example include
those codes that have just a single codeword, and also those codes that are the whole of . Another
perfect example can be illustrated by the repeat codes, where each symbol of the message is
duplicated an odd fixed number of times so as to obtain a codeword whereby q = 2. Both of these
examples are often referred to as the trivial perfect codes. In the year 1973, it was confirmed that any
non trivial perfect code over a prime power

If prayer was God s Idea, then it would stand to reason that He would make it simple enough for us to
understand. Even though it is simple, the reasons why so many people never walk in it are vast. This is
not something that I got out of a book, or made up. It s something God showed me through the Holy
Spirit, so please read with an open mind and meditate on what you read.
Step #1 The Power Within:
God is able to do exceeding, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that
works in us. Most people think that God can do whatever He wants to do, but according to this verse,
it all depends upon a power that is at work in us. To understand that power we need to look at a couple
of verses before this one. Paul prayed the following:
That He (God) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might,
through His Spirit, in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being
rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the

Crime And Its Effects On Campus Crime
Campus crime has had an effect on people s lives for a long time. Records of criminal activity on
campuses go back as early as the 1850 s. Crimes on campus include acts of violence, drug possession,
and distribution of drugs and alcohol. These crimes have a huge effect on the lives of the people
involved and others around them. Criminal activity can be influenced by events that occur in a person
s life, like the death of a family member or a violent or traumatic experience. Criminal activity may be
prevented in schools with clear enforcement of rules established to reduce threats and increase
security measures. Crimes on campus is anything that disrupts the educational process. These events
have always been around, but this is the earliest recording. In 1856, a murder took place at a school in
Florence, Alabama. A school master warned his students not to harm his sparrow. A boy stepped on it,
and killed it. The school master strangled the boy days later. The father of the boy shot and killed the
schoolmaster at the school. While this was the first murder to take place at a school, it isn t the worst.
In 1927, in Bath County, a bombing took place at Bath Community School, killing 45 people and
injuring 58 others. This is just a few examples of what can happen on campuses. A big part of campus
crime is drug possession. A minor can be charged with juvenile drug possession if caught with a
controlled or illegal substance. If caught in a school zone, the student can face

Overview of Haute Couture Haute couture is high end fashion that is constructed by hand from start to
finish, made from high quality, expensive, often unusual fabric and sewn with extreme attention to
detail and finished by the most experienced and capable sewers, often using time consuming, hand
executed techniques. Couture is a French word that means dressmaking in English but may also refer
to fashion, sewing, or needlework and is also used as a common abbreviation of haute couture and
refers to the same thing in spirit. Haute translates literally to high . An haute couture garment is often
made for a client, tailored specifically for the wearer s measurements and body stance. Considering

The New England economy in 1700 relied heavily on the Atlantic Trade and the government was
made up of Royal Colonies controlled by the King . With merchants in New England controlling the
dealings within the trade and the use of the trade made them very successful . For example, the
merchant s living in Boston who were very successful within the Atlantic Trade ended up owning half
of city s wealth . With the growing success within the Atlantic Trade (Triangle Trade), commerce
began to compete with the role of religion in the New England Colonies . The New England Colonies
roots were so rich in religion and transforming themselves into a godly society, and then commerce
began to be looked at with the same importance as religion. This was a drastic change from what the
New Englanders originally stood for and changed many aspects of society. For example, when cash
within the government was low, the leaders began selling land to individuals within the community,
which ended the church s authority in granting land to church members . In other words, money
became the ultimate way to get land instead of by belonging to the church. Also with the ability to buy
land whenever you pleased, the people of New England began to move to individual farms, creating

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Chemical Dyes
Natural dyeing has the advantage of having high diversity of rich and complex colours. The advantage
that different natural colours go well together and rarely clash works in favour of merchant. The
results that come out after using natural dyes are even more vibrant.
The disadvantage is that natural colours require to be taken in large quantities when compared with
chemical dyes. Furthermore, it also takes a longer time which is not the same case with chemical dyes.
The cost of the natural is significantly higher; however, time is required if one is growing their own
plant dyes.
2.5.2 Synthetic Dyeing
The advantage of synthetic dyeing is that it is easy to find and can be used easily. However, in contrast
to this advantage, there are several disadvantages. The synthetic dyes require more calculation and
precise measurement, as a slight mistake can lead to entire fabric being destroyed. One needs to have
the right kind of skills to search for colours that go well together. This can take up a ... Show more

Don John Is Machiavellian
Machiavellian: someone who uses others to get ahead, takes advantage of them, and is willing to do
whatever it takes to accomplish a goal. This is all demonstrated by Don John more than Borachio in
the book Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. Don John is more machiavellian than
Borachio due to his devious envying, and exploiting the weaknesses of Claudio and Hero, while not
caring about the wellbeing of Margaret and others. Throughout the play, Don John is extremely
envious of Don Pedro. This gives him the reason and drive for his devious plan to split up Hero and
Claudio. Borachio however has nothing against Don Pedro nor Claudio. Borachio is manipulating
Claudio for his friend. In Act II Don John says to Borachio ...and thy fee is a thousand ducats
(Shakespeare 31). Borachio s drive is the money: Don Johns is the one with the motive. In his eyes, he
has always been overlooked, and neglected. This was stated as I am sick in displeasure to him, and

and both kill themselves as a consequence. What differentiates these women is the motives behind
their actions.
Although Jocasta does not believe in oracles or prophecies, she does act against them, then, later on,
tries to convince Oedipus that prophecies mean nothing. In the other hand, Lady Macbeth believes in
prophecies and acts to make it a reality by convincing her husband, Macbeth, to kill so that he might

The Impact Of Clustering Methods For Pricing A Large...
The Impact of Clustering Method for Pricing a Large Portfolio of VA Policies 1 Variable Annuity
Variable annuities(VAs) are popular life insurance products in the insurance industry. VAs are long
term contracts designed for offering post retirement income (Bacinelloa, Millossovich, Olivieri,
Pitacco, 2011). VAs have attractive features such as dynamic investment opportunity and guarantees
against the investment and early death risks. A single premium or recurrent premiums from
policyholders are invested into the different risk return portfolio decided by the policyholders. There
are different reference funds in each different risk return portfolio. Different risk return portfolio can

However, these risks interact each other and the iteraction is not fully understood. Appropriate risk
management is required. Pricing and hedging of guarantees is the major concern of the contract
design. This risk should be considered during the process of pricing. For example, Bacinelloa,
Millossovich, Olivieri and Pitacco(2011) introduced a unifying valuation approach for VAs depending
on different assumptions of policyholder behavior 1.1Guaranteed Minimum Benefits There are two
main classes of guarantees: Guaranteed Minimum Death Benefit (GMDB)and Guaranteed Minimum
Living Benefit (GMLB). There are three types of benefits in GMLB: Guaranteed Minimum
Accumulation Benefit (GMAB), Guaranteed Minimum Income Benefit (GMIB), Guaranteed
Minimum Withdrawal Benefit (GMWB). The simplest form of guaranteed benefit is Guaranteed
Minimum Accumulation Benefit, it provides a minimum account value at maturity. Usually, the
minimum account value is the initial premium amount. It gives the policyholders the chance of
renewing account value at maturity when the investment performance is bad. Guaranteed Minimum
Income Benefit also provides a guaranteed account value at maturity, but policyholders only can take
out the account value in the form of annuity at specified annuity rate. This guarantee also reduces the
risk from the annuity rate at maturity. In the money means that the annuity payment resulting from

American Involvement In The United States Essay
The role of the United States now should be less involved with other countries because the United
State gets involved with other places too quickly even if it is right or wrong. Our country also takes
land that will benefit us more than others all for the wrong reasons. Also we are going head on head
with other countries for power and while fighting for power other groups are evolving from conflicts.
The United States gets involved in other countries even if it is not necessary. According to Mark
Twain he once said that it is going against our traditions and we are entering in an unjust and trivial
war. This war is against helpless people and robbery. The United States should be ashamed about the

We did this because we wanted to be able to trade sugar with them and have a navel base. Geography
Cuba was in a great location. In Fidel Castro s offer with the United States he said that the United
States should resume sugar purchase from Cuba. The trade between these two places turned out to
benefit both but without us taking control over Cuba and saying we were helping them then none of
the trade would happened. Once we came into Cuba to help we pushed the people in a portion on the
land they could have and took the rest for our own good.
In present day now we still have problems with power between countries now. In an article by Toby
Craig Jones he starts out saying how the in the Middle East the oil production has enchanted global
powers and the United States has been particularly powerful. It is surprising on how we are the ones in
power even though we aren t the ones producing the oil. All this oil production is happening in the

College Readmission Letter
Dear Esteemed Members of the Admissions Committee:I am submitting a letter of petition for
readmission for the Fall 2011 term. I was dismissed from the university in 2005 for poor academic
performance. Upon my entrance into the university I have always been very studious which has led
me to excel academically throughout the years. When I began my studies at I was ignorant of so many
things. I didnt really pick up on college regulations and penalties comfortably until my sophomore
year. It was then when I learned that I unfortunately didnt drop a class I thought I had dropped. I

because it s where congress acknowledged that 43 million Americans with disabilities had been
subjected to discrimination and that they have not had any recourse within the law to deal with this
discrimination. this law was passed to promote the rights of people with disabilities. The ADA was a
landmark legislation for the United States and at the time for the world it paved the way for civil rights

Introduction American International Group Inc. or simply AIG specializes in the insurance industry. It
is engaged in a range of insurance related businesses in the United States and across the borders. It
maintains and operates four main business segments: General Insurance, Domestic Life Insurance
Retirement Services, and Foreign Life Insurance Retirement Services. AIG also offers financial
services to its customers (one source, 2011). The company holds 11th position in the Forbes 1000
companies list (One source, 2011) and it is ranked at number 29 in the list of largest public company

The severity of crisis caused AIG to bear huge losses on Credit Default Swaps (CDS). Unable to pay
up to those losses would have driven it out of the global financial sector which meant huge losses not
only to the people but to the investors and a greater catastrophe for the government had it allowed AIG
to fail. The federal government had to protect the market from an even greater collapse, so it issued a
180 billion bailout and took control of the lamentable situation. Initially, the amount was 100 billion,
but it proved out to be increasingly insufficient which made the US Treasury on a predictable path
towards bankruptcy when another 80 billion were extracted from which the US government gained
80% equity interest in AIG (Gethard, 2009).
The first formal form of government assistance was carried out when the Financial Treasury provided
AIG with $40 billion from TARP (Trouble Asset Relief Program) funds. TARP was an initiated by
George W Bush during the 2008 financial crisis on 3rd October 2008. It was signed into law for the
government to buy toxic assets and equity reserves from different financial institutions to bolster the
financial sector ultimately. TARP was regulated under the SSFI (Systemically Significant Financial
Institution Program), and AIG was the only beneficiary of the funds under it. TARP also created a
capital equity program to allow AIG to access up to $30 billion. The NY Fed for further assistance

The Field Of Physical Therapy
The day to day writing in the field of Physical Therapy varies depending on the audience. The
audience determines the purpose of the writing and writing style. Physical Therapists (PT) use
evidence based exercises and activities to rehabilitate their patients in order for them to reach their
unique goal. Since PT s work with both medical professionals and patients, they must adjust their
writing to be able to communicate effectively. PT s are just one of the many people in the medical
field that may work with a particular patient so it is important that the communication between the
different layers of the medical field are precise and clear. Writing to a patient is also important because
they are the person who is being directly affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main audience a PT is writing to are people who have extensive understanding or are in the field.
Their purpose is to use that information for billing and to help make medical decisions which both
greatly impact the patient. Due to the potential impact of their understanding of the PT s writing, the
writing must be specific, descriptive, and contain jargon. A specific documentation layout named
SOAP was created for PT s to use to make sure all essential information is gathered. All PT s follow
the SOAP note format to document patient visits. SOAP notes were created to help keep consistency
through the field and to keep patient records organized and secure. SOAP notes are written to help the
PT critically think about the next step in their client s rehabilitation process. The format is used to
communicate information to other providers of care, to provide evidence of patient contact and to
inform the Clinical Reasoning process (Lowe SOAP Notes ). SOAP documentations aid in informing
and proving PT s work. The content is straight to the point and remains strictly factual which causes
shorter sentences. SOAP stands for subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (Lowe SOAP Notes ).
Each section aides in formulating an evaluation of the client s visit. A PT uses APA citation if they

Religion In Ancient Egypt
The importance of religion in ancient Egypt was huge. Egyptians lived their lives through their
religion, which was polytheism. The Egyptians based their religion off of many traditions. Which
means no change. They were ruled under the Pharaoh s.
Their religion influenced society majorly. As I mentioned, their religion affected their everyday lives
and such. The most interesting piece of information about this religion is how they believed in life
after death. The Egyptians had a belief that the body and soul was a separate form of life.
Mummification (which is what most people associate Egyptians with) meaning they would preserve
the body for eternity while the soul would be freed for the afterlife. I read about how they would place

The Easter Islander s Rise And Fall Essay example
The original inhabitants of Easter Island serve to show us what the ingenuity of the human spirit can
accomplish and the follies that can accompany them. The first islanders were the Polynesians that
arrived around 400 AD from south east Asia. It is estimated that their were between twenty and thirty
individuals that made the colossal journey. By the innovation of the double canoe it allowed them to
travel a great distance to an island where they could establish a brilliant civilization. There civilization
was based on being the best one can be which fostered intense competition between the different
clans. Competition brought out the best and the worst in the people over their greed for the resources
that the island provided. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to advance the islander s society, they began cutting down the vegetation and wooded areas of
the island. They found this necessary because by cutting down the trees it allowed for more space for
agriculture that the inhabitants needed to satisfy the flourishing population. It was also necessary
because the trees were used for canoes, heating, houses, cooking and poles. The greatest abuse of the
wooded area came from the need to move the stone statues from the quarry to different sites on the
island. Islanders used the tree trunks as rollers since they had to rely on human power to move them.
Excessive use of wooded areas resulted in over six hundred large stone statues being made and most
of the forest disappearing by the 1600s. The disappearance of the wooded areas brought about great
changes to the islander s way of life. One change was that the islanders could no longer build houses
out of wood and instead had to find new places to live. They began living in shelters dug out from the
hillside and making reed huts made from the remaining vegetation that grew near the water. The lack
of woodlands brought an end to long journeys since the canoes were made of wood. Only reed boats
were a possibility that could only travel a short distance. Gathering food from the sea was made harder
too. Since nets for fishing were made from the mulberry tree that was no longer available. The
diminishing resources resulted

Recreation Supervisors
When it comes to parenting, it seems that all is lost due to the immense amount of stress created from
children. Luckily jobs are in place so to help the average citizen with their everyday child needs. Some
are big and some are small, but all are important such as the few like Family Advocates and
Recreation Supervisors. Family Advocates are one of those jobs that allow parents and children to
communicate to social services through a medium. Another job that would also be beneficial to
parents within the U.S.A. is a Recreation Supervisor which plans and makes certain that the city has

Recreation Supervisors make on average 40,000 (Recreation Salary) a year which is not a large sum of
money. Looking at the community impact aspect of the job, however, is a reward that in itself is
priceless. The ability to create friendships and opportunities for others to make those connections is
one of the most selfless things anyone can do. From my research, I have found that there are many
ways to choose a way to further helping others and contributing to society in a positive way. From the
ability to further in government, or the joy of making someone s day and giving them a way to forget
about the worries of life gives the meaning of what it means to give back to the community. I
personally would not choose either of these fields not out of hate, but because I don t believe that is
the road I want to take to government and I believe I can help society in a way other than just bringing

Ethical Leadership Models
Leaders that demonstrate a commitment to behaving in an ethical manner are viewed as trustworthy
and subordinates gravitate toward them. Ethical leaders have a foundational belief in honesty and
trustworthiness and disseminating these principles throughout the organization. This paper will present
ethical leadership models as tools for merging diverse cultures into the existing organizational culture.
An overview of which leadership models, styles, and traits are most commonly accepted as ethical
across the greatest array of social cultures will be discussed. The paper will culminate with a selection
of a particular leadership model as a tool for shaping organizational culture and the rationale for
selecting that model.
Authentic leadership Leaders who demonstrate authenticity when leading multinational organizations
are called authentic leaders (Johansson, Miller Hamrin, 2014). Their central premise is to build
relationships with subordinates of diverse cultures. Valuing subordinate input and building trust on
ethical principles is the foundation upon which the organization is built. Authentic leadership
promotes tolerance and objectivity in building trust and transparency that bridge the levels of
management. Subordinates are allowed to take ownership of their work assignments with enthusiasm

Irrationality In Lord Of The Flies
Going insane from fear can be a lethal problem. William Golding s Lord of the Flies can attest to
situations implying the theme of fear. As the only survivors of a mysterious plane crash on a deserted
island, a moderately sized group of young boys must come together to survive. After a few nights on
the island, the smallest boys claim of a beast who roams the island in search of easy prey. Once the
rest of the island hears of this, Murphy s Law appears to take affect. When Ralph and Jack, the two
oldest leaders, cannot decide on what is more important, keeping a fire or hunting, they split apart,
becoming more and more barbarian like each day. After a death among the boys, the two leaders wage
war on each other. When Ralph goes to confront ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The articles referenced are just a few examples of other reader s opinions. Perhaps Golding was using
his book to communicate ways fear has impacted his life. William Golding expresses his versions of
fear in the novel, Lord of the Flies, with examples of irrationality, good vs. evil, and the unspoken
consequences pertaining to the after effects of fear. The irrational state one enters when inundated with
fear might have been an example of someone Golding knew. The biblical allusion detected in the
novel is just a real life version of what takes place in the Bible. The evil side taking aggressive actions
while the heroic or good side thinks the situation through in its entirety. The consequences from
fearing something that just cause more fear and is a rough scene for everyone involved. The novel
encapsulates a myriad of symbols, ideas, themes, and emotions into a novel of survival of the fittest.
Direct analyses prove the facts behind this theory. From my view, in Lord of the Flies, William
Golding is entertaining readers while communicating the message that one should not be scared or
fearful of something they are unsure of because only more problems will

Analysis Of Claire Messud s Novel The Woman Upstairs
Today we live in a society where the female body has become so sexualized that a girl showing her
skin is considered distracting or asking for it . In The Woman Upstairs, the protagonist Nora is an
incredibly interesting character due to the different roles she plays in life and how she models herself
and her opinions after those roles. At times Nora is a strong, independent and freethinking artist who
applauds the female body, while at other times she becomes yet another victim of the stresses society
forces upon women with the sexualization of their bodies and implied shame alongside. Through this
almost character split Messud demonstrates both the ideal and real perception of the female body, and
in doing so demonstrates an utterly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here the old woman is shown simply how she is and yet she is still beautiful. Her body isn t
interpreted in a sexual context it is merely her inner self showing through her body that Nora find
beautiful.
The old woman is seen as the idealized view of the female body since age has diminished the
sexualized portions of her body. In contrast, there is the young woman, just entering her physical
prime, who, stood straight to the camera, though with her hand coyly covering her privates; and in the
other, half turned, with her arm extended in embrace of the air, you could apprehend in profile the ripe
heft of her breast, with its sharp dark nipple, and the exuberant, even youthful, burst of pubic hair at
her groin (Messud, 220). Here Nora sees the picture of the young woman as a beautiful figure and
describes her as such, there are no underlying sexual innuendos. A figure that would be otherwise
sexualized is here seen simply as a piece of art when Nora separates herself from the outside and takes
on her artist persona. Messud, however, does not give in completely to the ideal, instead she has the
young woman in the picture coyly covering her privates (Messud, 220). This inclusion makes the
young woman s action seem common place and perhaps instinctual, yet upon consideration, it goes
back to the possibility of someone placing

It s Kill A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee

ENG 2D

It s a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, is a story that takes place
in the south of the U.S in the 1930 s during the time of the great depression when racism was at it s
highest. To kill a mockingbird is a story of destroyed innocence where the mockingbird is used to
represent the idea of innocence. Harper Lee portrays the theme that it s a sin to kill a mockingbird
through Tom Robinson, Arthur Radley and Jeremy Atticus loss of innocence because they are
symbolic mockingbirds. Firstly, Tom Robinson is a mockingbird because he is an innocent man
convicted of raping a white woman due to the colour of his skin which in turn leads to the loss of his
innocence. Atticus was able to make a good defense for Tom by stating the fact that the right side of
Mayella s face had suffered severe damage meaning that a person who was left handed most likely
attacked her. He goes on to prove that Bob Ewell is left handed while Tom s left hand is disfigured,
having taken the oath with the only good arm he possesses his right hand (Lee 273). Although all the
evidence proved Tom to be innocent he was still convicted of being guilty, thus stripping him of his
innocence. Furthermore, Tom was convicted of being guilty just because he was black and taking the
word of a black man over that of a white man was unimaginable. The jury had already found Tom
guilty even before the start of the trial because of the

Hi Dona Case Study
Hi Dona, Great advice about taking online classes! I agree that the trickiest part is usually figuring out
how the professor uses Moodle, because like you said, everybody seems to use Moodle a little bit
differently. You made a great point about making sure to get work done early incase something bad
happens. I know I have been caught in a situations where things weren t wanting to work right, and I
had to find another way to submit my work. Lastly, I agree it is super important to double check due
dates and times! I like to write down all the due dates and times for the week on Sunday or Monday,
that way I have a written schedule and don t have to get online each time I want to check my schedule.

Physics of Boating Essay
The first thing you should know is the physics behind a boat, seeing how you can t have a boating
adventure without one. To keep it simple, let s check out the main thing you should know about a
boat: Buoyancy. Buoyancy, by definition, is the upward force exerted by a liquid on any immersed
object. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the liquid then the
object will float. In other words buoyancy is dependent upon the density of the liquid and the volume
of the object submerged.
Buoyancy:
Fb= d*g*V
Where Fb= the magnitude of the buoyant force
d= density of the liquid, g= force of gravity (9.8 m/s^2), V= volume of the submerged object
All object displace fluid when in a liquid, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
237) Translation: The tides are caused by the gravitational attraction between the earth and moon.
There are two low tides and two high tides each day. Low tide is when you smell dead fish. High tide
is when the smell is somewhat less stinky.
The bald eagle is not an uncommon sight when boating in Southeast Alaska. It is a massive bird that
flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind the flight
of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes over or under
the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over the top of the wing
has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the pressure to drop because
the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area. Therefore, any given point
experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up. Meanwhile the air going below the wing
experiences the opposite effect. It slows down, generates more pressure and effectively pushes the
wing up. Hence a bird with air moving over its wings is pulled up from above and pushed up from
below.

  • 2. The Challenge Of The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was one of those amazing marketing strategies you see once in a blue moon. In the dead heat of summer here comes a challenge to dump ice and water over your head for a worthy cause. The intent of the challenge was to bring awareness to ALS and to raise money. Most people donated without knowing what ALS stands for, people could have donated to other causes than ALS, and even though the marketing was great I disagree with The Challenge. For starters, the hype of the Ice Bucket Challenge had people accepting to do the challenge with no real concept of what ALS was. The ALS Association says Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. After going through all of my news feeds on Facebook no one ever mentioned this. I actually had to research ALS to find out what it meant. • 3. The Decline of The U.S. Education System Essay Education in the United States has long been a concerned issue for teachers, parents, and communities. It is a major political topic, in which government has shown continuous efforts to compare and evaluate standards from state to state by creating and monitoring various programs for overall academic improvement across the country. Proper education has now become a moral necessity in order for individuals and societies to grow and succeed. Some of the major issues in the U.S. educational system consist of lack of equality in education, and decline in academic test scores. The U.S. spends more per student than any OECD nation, and other countries also seemingly invest funds differently than us. In addition, most countries invest money ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Education Secretary Arne Duncan said This is an absolute wake up call for America, The results are extraordinarily challenging to us and we have to deal with the brutal truth. We have to get much more serious about investing in education. ( USA Today In ranking, U.S. students trail global leaders, 2010, para. 4) While the U.S. has shown minor improvement in the PISA science test scores from 2006 to 2009 there is still a large margin for improvement needed in all areas. But questions still remain to be answered as to why there is such a large gap in comparison between the U.S. education and other countries. In his remarks regarding the release of the PISA results, Secretary Arne Duncan quotes the fact that the OECD has concluded in their study that the primary issue is not directly related to diversity or disadvantaged backgrounds of public school students but that Socio economic disadvantage leads more directly to poor educational performance in the United States than is the case in many other countries. (Secretary Arne Duncan s Remarks at OECD s Release of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2009 Results, December 7, 2010) In addition OECD concluded that, children from single parent families score much lower in reading than their peers from two parent or other types of families, even after accounting for socio economic background. To start it off they were located on opposite sides so they had different climates, the New England Colony was located in the North so there was stronger and longer winters while in the Southern Colonies, which was located in the south, so it was hotter and it was practically warm all year round. That led to different agricultural needs, the southern colony was huge on agriculture because they had fertile soil so they produced a lot of cash crops and were know for the tobacco, produced and exported by John Rolfe. Since the New England Colonies didn t have much use for agriculture because they lacked good soil so there wasn t many crops, they mostly fished, build ships, and traded mostly with fur. That leads to slavery, since the southern plantations required a lot of work there was a lot more slaves in the south then the north. Southern Colonies had the largest slave population who worked on the Slave Plantations, which grew cotton, tobacco, indigo (a purple dye), and other crops. Also religion was very different, the New England Colonies were strictly Puritans and didn t tolerate other religions; while the Southern colonies were not dominated by a single religion they were mostly predominantly Anglicans and ... • 5. Methods Of Error Detecting Code Introduction The most common method of transmitting information include use of bit strings. It s beyond bounds of possibility to evade errors when data is stored, recovered, operated on or transmitted. The likely source for this errors include electrical interference, noisy communication channels, human error or even equipment error and storing data for a very long time on magnetic tapes.. Important to consider therefore is ensuring liable transmission when large computer files are transmitted very fast or say when data is sent over a very long distance and to recover data that have degraded due to long storage on tapes. For a reliable transmission of data, techniques from coding theory are used. It is done in a such a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in case this is done, errors will not only be able to detected but also corrected . In short , in case sufficiently few errors are made in the transmission of a codeword, it becomes very easier to determine which codeword was sent. the following examples illustrate the idea. Application include television cameras. Hamming Distance when it comes to information theory, Hamming distance refers to the number of bits which are the difference between two binary strings. expressed alternatively,, the distance between two strings A and B is ∑ | Ai Bi |. simply put in a similar way is that it determines the minimum number of substitutions required to alter one string into the other, or the lowest number of errors that could have changed one string into the other. large application is in coding theory, more specifically to block codes, in which the equal length strings are vectors over a finite field. Perfect Codes Perfect Codes refers to those codes that achieve the Hamming bound .A good example include those codes that have just a single codeword, and also those codes that are the whole of . Another perfect example can be illustrated by the repeat codes, where each symbol of the message is duplicated an odd fixed number of times so as to obtain a codeword whereby q = 2. Both of these examples are often referred to as the trivial perfect codes. In the year 1973, it was confirmed that any non trivial perfect code over a prime power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though it is simple, the reasons why so many people never walk in it are vast. This is not something that I got out of a book, or made up. It s something God showed me through the Holy Spirit, so please read with an open mind and meditate on what you read. Step #1 The Power Within: God is able to do exceeding, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Most people think that God can do whatever He wants to do, but according to this verse, it all depends upon a power that is at work in us. To understand that power we need to look at a couple of verses before this one. Paul prayed the following: That He (God) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might, through His Spirit, in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the ... Crimes on campus include acts of violence, drug possession, and distribution of drugs and alcohol. These crimes have a huge effect on the lives of the people involved and others around them. The school master strangled the boy days later. The father of the boy shot and killed the schoolmaster at the school. While this was the first murder to take place at a school, it isn t the worst. In 1927, in Bath County, a bombing took place at Bath Community School, killing 45 people and injuring 58 others. This is just a few examples of what can happen on campuses. This is all demonstrated by Don John more than Borachio in the book Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. Don John is more machiavellian than Borachio due to his devious envying, and exploiting the weaknesses of Claudio and Hero, while not caring about the wellbeing of Margaret and others. Throughout the play, Don John is extremely envious of Don Pedro. This gives him the reason and drive for his devious plan to split up Hero and Claudio. Borachio however has nothing against Don Pedro nor Claudio. Borachio is manipulating Claudio for his friend. In Act II Don John says to Borachio ...and thy fee is a thousand ducats (Shakespeare 31). Borachio s drive is the money: Don Johns is the one with the motive. In his eyes, he has always been overlooked, and neglected. Compare And Contrast Macbeth And Jocasta In both Oedipus the King and Macbeth, Shakespeare and Sophocles demonstrate how Jocasta and Lady Macbeth are very similar and at the same time very different. After Jocasta and Lady Macbeth heard their husbands prophecies, their lives were changed. Jocasta and Lady Macbeth both take action and both kill themselves as a consequence. What differentiates these women is the motives behind their actions. Although Jocasta does not believe in oracles or prophecies, she does act against them, then, later on, tries to convince Oedipus that prophecies mean nothing. They found this necessary because by cutting down the trees it allowed for more space for agriculture that the inhabitants needed to satisfy the flourishing population. It was also necessary because the trees were used for canoes, heating, houses, cooking and poles. The greatest abuse of the wooded area came from the need to move the stone statues from the quarry to different sites on the island. Islanders used the tree trunks as rollers since they had to rely on human power to move them. Excessive use of wooded areas resulted in over six hundred large stone statues being made and most of the forest disappearing by the 1600s. The disappearance of the wooded areas brought about great changes to the islander s way of life. One change was that the islanders could no longer build houses out of wood and instead had to find new places to live. They began living in shelters dug out from the hillside and making reed huts made from the remaining vegetation that grew near the water. The lack of woodlands brought an end to long journeys since the canoes were made of wood. Only reed boats were a possibility that could only travel a short distance. In contrast, there is the young woman, just entering her physical prime, who, stood straight to the camera, though with her hand coyly covering her privates; and in the other, half turned, with her arm extended in embrace of the air, you could apprehend in profile the ripe heft of her breast, with its sharp dark nipple, and the exuberant, even youthful, burst of pubic hair at her groin (Messud, 220). To kill a mockingbird is a story of destroyed innocence where the mockingbird is used to represent the idea of innocence. Harper Lee portrays the theme that it s a sin to kill a mockingbird through Tom Robinson, Arthur Radley and Jeremy Atticus loss of innocence because they are symbolic mockingbirds. Firstly, Tom Robinson is a mockingbird because he is an innocent man convicted of raping a white woman due to the colour of his skin which in turn leads to the loss of his innocence. Atticus was able to make a good defense for Tom by stating the fact that the right side of Mayella s face had suffered severe damage meaning that a person who was left handed most likely attacked her. He goes on to prove that Bob Ewell is left handed while Tom s left hand is disfigured, having taken the oath with the only good arm he possesses his right hand (Lee 273). Although all the evidence proved Tom to be innocent he was still convicted of being guilty, thus stripping him of his innocence. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the liquid then the object will float. In other words buoyancy is dependent upon the density of the liquid and the volume of the object submerged. It is a massive bird that flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind the flight of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes over or under the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over the top of the wing has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the pressure to drop because the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area. Therefore, any given point experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up. Meanwhile the air going below the wing experiences the opposite effect. It slows down, generates more pressure and effectively pushes the wing up. Hence a bird with air moving over its wings is pulled up from above and pushed up from below. Marine Mammals Communication: Whales are amazing mammals on many levels.
