Essay on College Athletes Should Get Paid
Pay for Play Today, sports are no longer fun and games, sports are a business, and college sports
are no different. Division I college sports provide a huge source of universities income. The school
receives money from ticket sales, television contracts, and sport related merchandise, along with
many other sports related revenue builders. The athletes on the other hand, receive their scholarship
and little more. While the idea of receiving a free college education is something few would
complain about; when the issue is more closely examined it becomes evident that it is not enough.
Universities are exploiting athletes, and recently the problems that this creates have become more
prominent. More and more athletes are now leaving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major argument for not compensating college athletes is the fact that we have never
done so in the past. Also, at a time of economic crisis, most Universities have other things to
worry about, especially because there is no system in place currently that allows student athletes
to receive money. The comparison of what student athletes get versus what they give makes it
very obvious that they are exploited. Many of the athletes receive their education free, which
can range from about $10,000 to more than $40,000 a year. However, college programs generate
thousands more off of the athlete. Recently, the University of Notre Dame signed a five season
38 million dollar contract with NBC for its home football games (Wulf 94). If there were 100
full scholarship football players for Notre Dame, that would equal $380,000 per player just from
the TV revenues, when the limit of scholarships is usually around eighty. This does not even take
into account the ticket revenues, championship or bowl game payouts, and merchandise sold
because of the players. Notre Dame is not the only school making million dollar deals like this
one. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) makes approximately 242 million
dollars off of TV revenues each year, and that number shouldn t do anything but rise (Bruinius 1).
When college athletes only receive a scholarship usually somewhere in the ball park of

Emperor Penguin Climate Change
These massive changes in climate over millions of years brought about new species and ended
others. As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature
changes are attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The important
question is: how will these changes, man made or otherwise, impact existing species? One easily
observed example is Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. With
increasing temperature of the ocean, the sea ice where they live melts, eliminating nesting areas,
the sea levels rise, reducing shore habitat, and food supply becomes limited. The penguins main diet
consists of krill, fish, and squid. Antarctic krill populations, their... Show more content on

The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing
temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least
concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins
nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice
season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay,
incubate, and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults
leave. However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier.
Before the baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the
only habitat they know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are
swept into the sea where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow
for expansion of their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally
reduces the population, and they must repopulate to sustain. The specific, freezing march of
Emperor penguins to their nesting grounds was displayed in the acclaimed French documentary
March of the Penguins. The documentary was recorded in the southern region of Antarctica, where
temperatures recorded have less effect on the early

School Uniforms
School uniforms make things more complicated
Firstly, school is the place where all of us step in at a very tender age. In one word, life begins at
school. It s not just education but school gives us the platform to nurture our faith, emotions in
such an early stage of life. The importance of making friends, working as a team we learn all these
in school. And wearing the same dress definitely brings a sense of unity among students.
In every school there are students from different backgrounds but with the school uniform everyone
becomes one the only identity dominates at that moment is all them are representative of the same
school. This is a great feeling of togetherness. School uniforms flashes out most of the drops of

Cameras also will protect students by providing evidence if something unexpected occurs.
More and more schools are installing security cameras in halls, classrooms and buses.
Administrators say it helps protect students and staff, but some argue the practice is invasive. many
students around the world have been falsely accused of something they didn t do. All of these
problems can be eliminated with one little piece of technology hanging from the ceiling. That little
piece of technology is a surveillance camera which can be placed almost anywhere. Many schools
are determining whether or not to install security cameras in classrooms. Those who have, have
seen dramatic changes in teachers, students, and even parents. Cameras have many helpful factors.
For instance, cameras can be used to train future teachers, broadcast to students at home, and deal
with bullying. Having cameras in a classroom environment are beneficial for students, teachers,
parents, and schools because they hold teachers accountable, help students improve their behavior,
and evaluate teacher and student interactions.
Reconnaissance in schools has turned out to be more famous, for wellbeing reasons, as well as to
screen the classrooms and teacher. The primary issue with influencing the schools more to secure is
the methods by which to influence them more to secure without people feeling dismissed. A couple

Faith and Doubt in the Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins Essay
Gerard Manley Hopkins had eight siblings and was born of Manley and Catherine Smith Hopkins.
His parents were Anglicans that followed the Catholic tradition in sacraments and papacy. By
instilling the theological values, faith and morals into Gerard, he became heavily influenced by his
family. His parents taught him, as well as their other children to love God. Gerard guaranteed his
mother that he would strengthen his connection with God and familiarize himself with the
Scripture, so Gerard began to read the New Testament at school. Manley, his father, was an officer
of the laity and helped out at the Church. He taught children at the Sunday school including his own

As Gerard searched for an authoritative religion while he was in Oxford, he became captivated
by John Henry Newman. He saw the Newman converted from the Anglican Church to the
Catholic Church and that grabbed his attention. After understanding Newman s choice he
himself also converted to Catholicism in 1866. By 1888 Gerard had joined the Society of Jesus,
which is a clergy order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Society of Jesus Order
concentrates mainly on theological scholarship and spreading the values of faith. On his
journey to become a Jesuit priest Gerard gave up on poetry. He believed that expressing himself
through poetry was being too original. Hopkins did not want his love of poetry to draw
attention. To prevent his personal goal from diverging him from becoming a Jesuit priest, he
sacrificed his passion and burned his early poems. Before I became Catholic and I only thought
about what it would be like, I had the habit of crossing myself whenever I prayed. Whenever I
saw the homeless man on my way home from school I would cross myself, saying a prayer for
him. My mother would usually interrupt. Eventually, she started teasing me for it. It was not mean
or unbearable just a little tease where she would ask me why I crossed myself, just little things.
This nitpicking was not so much of a problem for me. Another time at my mom s Seventh Day
Adventist Church people stared at me because I crossed myself. They did not

Introduction to Soccer Essay
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the
United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else.
The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now,
the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men s and women s teams, and the World Cup
(which is played every four years). Soccer originated with kicking games played by people in
ancient civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It
started as a game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate
sports: rugby and football (which is what the English call soccer). Around... Show more content on

In addition to the field itself, all that is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight
yards apart) and a ball. Each player wears hard plastic or padded shingaurd, covered by long socks,
for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also wear a
special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated by the
Federation Internationale de Football Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and 130
yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have deliberately been
kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. The
game starts off with a kick off, and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick, and
shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their opponent s goal. If
the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw in, where
the ball is thrown over the player s head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the goal,
or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive team, where the ball is
placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal kick,
where the ball is placed on the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. If a goal is scored,
the ball is taken back to the center of

Essay on Baroque Music
Baroque Music
In 1600 a new style of music began to evolve, this form of music was later to be called Baroque.
Baroque music was very different to the music before its time such as medieval and early
renaissance music and the development of new harmonic and melodic lines added difference in
pace and variation to the compositions giving them a new shape and form. The structure of the
music also changed, different forms such as fugues and cannons developed and different
instruments were introduced.
There were many composers that wrote music throughout the baroque era, some more significant
than others but each contributing a large amount to the development throughout this period.

Handel s father disapproved of his composing wanting him to study law; however Handel s
intentions were strongly pointed in the direction of his musical talent. Handel became very much
involved in the Opera scene developing in London at this time and became key to it s
development. After leaving Germany he spent a significant amount of time in Florence, Rome,
Naples and Venice and in this time he studied with other influential artists such as
ArcangeloCorelli. He then left Italy in 1710 and moved to Hanover; here he was given the job of
director of music to George Louis, the Elector. Handel was considered as one of England s most
influential composers and after his death in 1710 he was buried in Westminster Abbey.
Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st l685 and died in 1750, he was said to have a
great ability of bringing the different forms and styles of baroque music to perfection and this
helped him stand out as a significant composer during the baroque era and forward till today. Bach
came from a family with a large amount of musical history making him well known in his home
land of southeast Germany. It was clear that Bach was considered a powerful composer because he
was still dominant to the developments made on the baroque style even though he

Sex Segregation in the Workplace Essay
Why are most brain surgeons and CEO s male? Why are most secretaries and nurses female? Why
not female surgeons and male nurses? These are simple and frequent questions that can be
answered by most Sociologist and Theorists. Sociologists and Theorists equate this type of job
inequality phenomenon with occupational sexsegregation. Sex segregation in the workplace is one
of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor market. In almost every work setting, it is rare to
see men and women working at the same job. When they do, they usually perform different tasks,
with unequal levels of responsibility and authority. Even when job tasks are virtually identical, it is
not uncommon to find men and women allocated to distinct job... Show more content on

Employers try to maximize profits by maximizing productivity and minimizing costs to the extent
possible, but because of competition and efficient labor markets, employers pay workers their
marginal product. So, this theory explains why more males than females are surgeons; because they
seem to have better opportunities for education and they tend to lack certain obligations that
females have. Whereas many women find it difficult to find the time to obtain this education
because of their certain obligations life hands them, for example taking care of a family and raising
children.
When explaining occupational sex segregation by sex, researchers usually distinguish labor
supply and labor demand factors. Factors related to labor supply generally focus on why women
prefer certain types of occupation for example, women may prefer those with flexible hours in
order to allow time for child care, and may also prefer occupations which are relatively easy to
interrupt for a period of time to bear or rear children. Explanations related to labor demand focus on
why employers generally prefer to hire women or men for particular occupations and why women
and men have different opportunities for promotion and career development within firms.
Institutional and labor market segmentation theories are another explanation for why

Act 2 Scene 2 Comparison Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Scene 2 Comparison There are millions of different well known plays
around the world, some of these plays have been performed many times over and over again.
Even though these plays are repeatedly performed, every time there is a difference, every time
something has changed. Directors have this power and ability, to be able to change how a
character looks, or the point of view, or even just the facial expressions of the character. All of
these little differences affect the play and make it look brand new every single time. This will be

Setting is an element which can be looked over by the viewer. Sometimes what makes a scene
work can be fully tied to its setting and props. With a setting that is realistic and well thought,
you can truly tie a scene together. In the Franco Zeffirelli version of the play, we can see that the
setting is around the Capulet mansion, by Juliet s balcony. Romeo is below hiding in the
bushes. The leaves of the bushes and how Romeo is below them show us how he is hiding and
can t be seen by anyone, the night sky and how dark it is in this scene also hide Romeo. Juliet is
sitting on the ledge of her balcony. In this production, the balcony is made very wide, so in the
scene, Juliet can walk along the entire balcony before Romeo speaks. This also gives her enough
space to run away when she is scared by Romeo s voice. The plot is not affected too much by
these choices other than being able to have Juliet almost run away from Romeo. Through these
setting options that Franco Zeffirelli took during his production, we have a medieval time period
look and a more original looking production. However, the

Go Set A Watchman Analysis
Award winning author, Harper Lee in her novel, Go Set a Watchman addresses racial
controversy during the 1950s. Lee s purpose is to create a story that many will love, while
showing her views on racism and how she felt during this time. She creates a controversial tone
in order to make people think about her views while also using familiar characters, which makes
the readers eager to have an update on these beloved characters. Although this novel created
racial tensions, Lee uses her writing skills, ethos, pathos, and logos by connecting the audience
to the story and bridging a gap between the fictional world and reality. Lee s novel combines
issues going on in the real world, while constructing a story that can relate to the readers. Lee s
first novel made people think about how racism affects the world, and she instantly became a
credible author. Lee was born in 1926, which makes her a primary source for the information on

pages of great, mythological, literature. Not only does Stoker place emphasis on the gender role

while masking it behind a riveting fictional work. The book takes place between a series of letters
and journal entries written by the characters. Dracula, the antagonist, is depicted as a blood thirsty

Organic And Free Range Of Grass Fed Essay
Organic. Cage Free. Free Range. Grass Fed. Non GMO. These descriptors are used in grocery
stores across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers
through their purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any
description, how do consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food
producers and their governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg,
and produce industry are all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday
consumer comes in contact with these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely
on them to help them make the healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really
denoting ethical sourcing, improved health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The
rise of organic farmingin the United States came about following the general push to return to a
more natural way of life in the late 1960s and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional
farming methods that were used exclusively until the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A
major force behind this movement was science writer, Rachel Carson who published Silent
Spring in 1962 (History). In this work, she focused on the loss of songbirds due to the widespread
use of DDT and the otherwise indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and weed killers
(History). The label organics sprung from consumer pressure

The Blues, By Jelly Roll Morton And Mamie s Blues
Even after slavery, African American women are still imprisoned by their inferior role to men. The
women could be from different statuses based on job, wealth, or marital status, but they are would
find themselves suffering under the rules of their men. The blues Wild Women Don t Have the
Blues by Ida Cox and Mamie s Blues by Jelly Roll Morton talk about the challenges of women
living during the Harlem Renaissance. The blues surrounded the African Americanwomen during
this time, and these songs talk about women facing hardships in life because they are second class
citizens compared to men.
The women in these blues are in relationships that have caused their blues. In Cox s blues, the
woman is in a relationship with an alcoholic. As a young child, she followed society s rules,
because she believed this would grant her a blissful life. Instead she is punished with a horrible
relationship and she feels betrayed by her destiny. She regrets living in between the lines, when
she could have lived frivolously like a wild woman. Morton s song describes the life of a wild
woman described in Cox s song. The woman lives in the city and is in a relationship with an
unemployed man. Although she is not trapped in a house like the previous song, she is trapped
being the sole breadwinner for herself and her man. The woman is described as being wild because
she is acting improperly by openly begging to men for money. When a woman begs for money, it
exposes the man for not providing for

Imperialism In The 21st Century
Now we ve got it covered now we can ensure it s understood: Trump is not an outsider, first of all.
He s an elitist among elitists, and he s being pushed by the elite to win this election. Why, now?
Divide et impera! The more stratified we are by imaginary lines (white/black male/female straight

conscience. The elite are mostly white, mostly male, mostly straight, mostly cisgender, and

they can have all the free reign they want! Last year we had two terrors in two cities: Paris and San

Factors That Influences Blood Glucose Control
Abstract
Background: Diabetes is the most dangerous and common life long health condition which affects
mankind irrespective of age. Diabetes is a boon for the health care provider as it is a very
demanding and complex disease. It is very essential that this killer disease must be identified early
and significant treatment must be entitled to the patient as soon as it is detected. By creating a
good awareness of this disease and its manifestations, the increasing number of mortality and
morbidity of patients can be reduced around the globe.
Aims Objectives:
This thesis is aimed at identifying the major factors which influences blood glucose control, the
measures needed to control the upsurge of diabetes in the society ,preventive measures , precaution
steps and means of keeping diabetes under control.
вћўThe relevance of diet in glycaemic control and the factors which influences the change in
glycaemic level in a diabetic patient.
вћўThe means of estimating glycaemic levels, relevance of HbA1c and the screening process for
diabetes.
вћўCan blood glucose control prevent , delay or reverse Diabetes mellitus?
вћўDoes the degree of blood glucose control affect the development of complications equally in all
patients ?
Clinicians must be aware while treating DM patients of the main causative factors which can lead
to variations in the glycaemic levels and glucose monitoring. By identifying these factors a clinician

Hamlet And Laertes
Hamlet and Laertes A Revenge Tragedy
Everyone s personality can be changed through encountering different situations. In Hamlet,
playwright William Shakespeare presents two characters, Hamlet and Laertes, who love their
fathers, King Hamlet and Polonius respectively. Once their fathers are murdered, Hamlet and
Laertes become mentally insane committed acts of reprisal. In particular, Hamlet wants to kill
Claudius and Laertes wants to kill Hamlet. While Hamlet and Laertes share similar experiences
when avenging their fathers death, they seek vengeance in a disparate manner. The reason they
wanted to revenge their father, the way they seek revenge, and the flaws they developed when
revenging their father are dissimilar. Hamlet and Laertes both lose their father in a similar
manner, but the purpose for their revenge is different. Hamlet wants revenge because he loves
his father. After King Hamlet dies, Hamlet is extremely depressed and says he would commit
suicide if Everlasting had not fixedHis canon gainst self slaughter! ... (1.2.131 132). For Hamlet
to be so devastated that he would take his own life, shows that Hamlet clearly loves his father.
When he meets the ghost that looks like King Hamlet, Hamlet learns that his dad is actually
murdered by Claudius. As a result, Hamlet promises to seek revenge by saying, thoughts of love,
/ May sweep to my revenge... (1.5.30 31), explicitly conveying that he is taking revenge for the
love of his father. On the other hand,

Due to the actions that are not being taken to put a stop to this brutality, citizens begin riots,
releasing their anger toward the government. Justice isn t being served and that surely baffles
me and any other person who is against this criminal act done by those who are supposed to stop
it. The effects that police brutality leave on their victims is paranoia and the feeling of not being
safe due to those are supposed to protect from the danger are the ones causing danger. Cops try
getting away with it, try to hide evidence, don t tell the whole story just to protect themselves
and make us think about how well the system is and if it really is just. You can forget about
justice when police, government agents, who are supposed to protect us assault, kill, harass, and

we are supposed to feel when a police officer is around. That is why in some cases where the

Divorce Is A Win And A Loss For Parents And Children
Divorce is a Win and a Loss for Parents and Children The divorce rate in today s society according
to Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is higher than ever. Although people have a legal right to file for
divorce, it is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of
a Divorce Culture , that divorcehas become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s
society, divorce is viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for
divorce with no stigma. Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also
shows reasons why couples should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final
decision such as their children s consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce
culture as a very serious ethical problem by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and
how their children can be effected by it. Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem,
people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is for their own satisfaction. We never know
what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and what types of issues they are going
through. Whitehead mentions in her article about how abusive and how demolorizing some
relationships can be. In her article, Whitehead states We must assume that divorce is necessary as
a remedy for irretrievably broken marriages, especially those that are marred by severe abuse such
as chronic infidelity, drug addiction, or physical

Education Funding For School Districts
How Does the Child s School District Wealth Affect a Child s Education? Educational funding for
school districts is an ongoing war. A war that will be fought till equality is achieved. A school
district s wealth is affected by a number of reasons such as its property wealth, the race of the
people who live there and their socio economic status. Some districts are wealthier than others.
Wealthy districts get more funding than poor districts because they have more property wealthand
people with high socio economic statuses. The wealth of a school district determines how much
resources the school gets and just how much educationthe children in that district receive.
Most school district boundaries are more or less drawn by race and class. The wealthier districts
consisting of predominantly the white race and the poorer districts consisting of the colored
race. An example can be seen in Taylor Van s video Tale of Two Schools: Race and Education on
Long Island . In The Color of Water, the school that James mother applies to is a predominantly
white school with James being the only colored child and only child who wore hand me downs
and clothes from the thrift shop in his class. In the 1960 s, there was still segregation even though
the Brown vs. Board of Education law had been passed in 1954 in an attempt to desegregate the
schools, the schools were still segregated. The schools were still segregated because the boundaries
had been drawn to suit segregation and during

College Athletes Should Not Be Banned
Every year NCAA brings in approximately $6 billion from highly anticipated sports events, such
as this month s NCAA tournament March Madness , for example.1 While brackets will be
broken, nets will be slashed, and the championship team will be crowned, ultimately the real
winner from college events like these is the NCAA itself. While the relentless student athletes
train rigorously day and night to represent their schools, the athletes who participate do not see a
single penny, even though they are the ones who ...risk career ending injuries every time they
onto the court, field, or rink. The NCAA forces all amateur college athletes to sign a contract,
forbidding monetary compensation for their efforts and restricting them from any sponsorship
deals with payouts. This has posed a dilemma since the early 1900s, because some of the best
collegiate athletes have been dirt poor, while the NCAA program has continued to make millions
off of the names of athletes who cannot afford to feed their own families. As a solution, all
NCAA athletes deserve to be paid. In the event that there were only one reason that college
athletes ought to be paid, it is that both the NCAA and the college itself utilizes players name and
status for its own financial benefit. Whether it is selling players jerseys or signing autographs, the
NCAA is successfully profiting off of the player whose number is on the shirt, without giving any
cut to the player himself. An eleven billion dollar industry

How Did Civilization Affect The Development Of Civilization
Beginning in approximately 3500 BCE through the peak of the PErsian empire in 200 s BCE,
humans living together created order and structure in natural, human, and built environment
systems. The development of writing systems, religious systems, and economic systems led to the
growth of civilization and empire.
Writing systems affected the growth of civilization because it developed understanding between
people. In 3500 BCE, a writing system was created in the Sumerian culture. It was called cuneiform,
the sumerians recorded their writing on rocks. The language helped to better trade, laws, and
storytelling. Typically, it helped stories stay factual when passed down through generations. Shorty
after the language was created, men discovered math. The Persian people based their writing on the
arabic alphabet, but they too used cuneiform to communicate. The cuneiform language spread to
tribes and different tribes, making it easier for trade. THe Sumerians created a language that helped

Economic systems developed organization between trade and people. The Sumerians lacked raw
materials for trade, but were rich in crops. Trade was constructed between them and Southwest

civilization because it truly was the first development of trade, still today we use the method of
trade. During the ancient times, men had political power in the sumerian culture. Typically, the
women took care of their homes and children, in some occasions they were allowed to be

Cause Of The English Revolution
In 17th century, series of rebellions and civil wars occurred, known famously as the English
Revolution. These events occurred primarily as the result of a power struggle between
Parliament and the king. The revolutions served to decide how the power would be distributed in
the English government. The events that led up to the English Revolution began largely after the
death of Queen Elizabeth I, marking the end of the Tudor dynasty in 1603. James I was crowned
king, and the Stuart dynasty began. James, unlike his predecessor, believed in divine right of
kings, a concept that said kings were chosen for the position by God and were all powerful. This is
a concept opposite to that of popular sovereignty, in which the power of governmentwas given and
sustained by the people, rather than god. This created a rift... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dissension among Parliament and the people of England was increased by the fact that James
was strongly devoted to the Church of England, which displeased the Puritans, who wished to
make the church more Protestant. Because the lower house of Parliament was composed
primarily of Puritans, the new king was not popular with most of the members of Parliament. At
one point, Parliament passed a law stating that citizens could not be taxed without Parliament s
permission, which limited the king s power. James, who believed in the divine right of kings,
was displeased by this. He believed that, as a man chosen by god to be a supreme ruler, he should
not follow laws, and did not believe in the concept of constitutionalism. Constitutionalism is a
concept that says all rulers must obey laws, regardless of standing. Henry I, son of James, further
displeased the Puritans by attempting to force ritual on the Church of England, making it seem
more Catholic. The Puritans believed Henry to be an enemy of liberty, particularly religious
liberty, as he was trying to take away their religious

The same applies goes to Thain who deluded shareholders about financial problems in Merrill

The Effects of Reading Instruction on Students of Low Socioeconomic Status
Amelia K.L. Reynolds
Edmond, Oklahoma
Abstract
This paper explores related research in aspects of language acquisition, specifically, reading
instruction and its effect on students who live in low socioeconomic environments. We will review
the methods of explicit phonics and whole language to examine what, if any, is the more
advantageous method of reading instruction for students who live in poverty. The purpose of this
literature review is to investigate the impacts of specific reading instruction on the literacy
development of children and how socioeconomics restricts these impacts. The research reviewed
was collected from peer review journals using the Central Search feature on the UCO Chambers
Library website. The majority of the researcher s findings came from EBSCOhost Education
Research Complete and JSTOR: Journal Storage. Given the findings of this literature review,
research suggests that explicit phonics instruction, when embedded in a whole language classroom,
promotes growth in literacy skills among young children. Research suggests that multisensory
phonics, based on Orton Gillingham Approach, promotes literacy growth for students who are at
risk, however, its impact within a whole language classroom are undetermined. This literature
review suggests that multisensory phonics should be utilized in a whole language classroom to
determine if its use promotes growth in

Descriptive Essay Beach
Have you ever had everything before you play out in slow motion, where you are aware of
everything around you, yet don t knowing what is going on? I have. In the movies, when
someone is drowning, it s loud and splashy, someone yelling for help and waving their arms, they
are dipping below the harsh currents of the waves and coming back up in a dramatic fashion
while those who are standing by scramble to rescue them. Yeah, it doesn t really go down like that.
Drowning is silent, movements are subtle; they rarely make any noise at all. One minute, they re
trying to keep their head above the water, and then next minute, they re gone. What began as a
simple day at beach became a near death experience, which has enlightened me and ultimately
redirected the entire course of my life.
When my family and I decided to go the beach on Labor Day, I was not thrilled to go all. As I
child, I always hated the beach. I mean no offense it s a pretty cool place and it s also an
essential part of life with a massive pool full of animals that are really adorable. But, sand gets

Traumatic Brain Disorder (TBI)
1.5 million people in the United State of America have a traumatic brain disorder (TBI). These
disorders have symptoms of memory dysfunction, depression and anxiety; Dr. Byrnes and her team
at the Uniformed Services University have examined mouse models to find the cellular mechanisms
for these symptoms. When the brainexperiences a traumatic injury, several cellular level events
happen quickly. First, there is an increase in supporting cell membrane permeability which leads to
a rise in non specific ion influx, followed by a rapid increase in glucose uptake. This increased
glucose uptake results in increased in energy generation in an effort to correct the membrane
permeability dysfunction.
The major route neurons use to increase their glucose

The Cardiovascular System, The Workhorse Of The Body
The cardiovascular system, the workhorse of the body, has long been an object of fascination
by civilizations. How does such a tiny muscle support the life of a human for such a long period
of time? The answer lies within the physiology of the cardiovascular system itself. Simple one
celled organisms had one major problem when it came to the diffusion of oxygen, the oxygen
required by a mammal for instance, would be much greater than the rate at which these cells could
diffuse oxygen. Thus the need for a more efficient process was integral in the creation of
cardiovascular system as we know it today. The ability of the heartto pump bloodfast enough (and
in continuous loops) allows for this absorption of vital nutrients in a prompt manner. However
the common knowledge we have currently about the way this system works is a relatively new
understanding. In the 17th century, an Italian anatomist named Marcello Malpighi observed the
capillary exchange between interstitial fluid and blood. This idea was a radical one (p.463 464).
Common belief at the time was that the cardiovascular system distributed both blood and air.
Many had thought that blood was produced in the liver and was distributed through the veins and
also believed that it was the arteries that distributed oxygen to the body. William Harvey
disproved this belief when he discovered that that weight of blood pumped by the heart in one
hour exceeds the weight of the entire body. He soon discovered the one way loop in

Andrew Ladd Case Study
This summer, general manager Garth Snow went out and signed Andrew Ladd to a big money
deal and Jason Chimera to replace the departed Matt Martin, hoping to add some additional
veteran leadership to a team coming off its first playoff round victory in over 20 years.
Even though the offensive numbers have been slow to arrive (Chimera with 4 5 9 in 25 games
but three goals past five games and Ladd 3 3 6 in 25 games but 1 2 3 in past five games), they
have combined with existing veterans to help the Islanders out of the types of malaise that struck
the team during the months of October (4 5 0) and November (4 5 4).
After a string of one regulation win in 12 games, New York has won three of its last four in
regulation, added an overtime win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When asked what it means to finally climb back to NHL .500 at 10 10 5, he summed it up
perfectly, as he is known to do.
It means we still have a lot of work to do. Obviously, we ve certainly had some ups and downs,
plenty of frustrations and while we re certainly playing better hockey, we know we still can be even
better. That s really the mindset.
Beyond the box: The Islanders spent 9:26 on the penalty kill, leading to a 77 44 shot attempt
advantage for the Rangers....Casey Cizikas was 6 12 on faceoffs in 16:25....Johnny Boychuk was
sidelined with flu like symptoms and Anthony Beauvillier sat out his third straight game in favor
of Alan Quine, who played only 8:37....Islanders Jaroslav Halak is now 10 1 0 all time versus
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist....Rangers Matt Puempel left the game in the first period with
a concussion after a collision with Brock Nelson and Rick Nash left in the second with a groin
strain.
Josh Bailey spoke of that viral picture from Sunday of his wife Megan holding their infant son

Martian Compare And Contrast Book And Movie
Have you ever read a book and watched the movie of it after and had that moment when you
realize all the similarities and differences this is very true for almost every book and movie
combo are like this. One book and movie combo like this was the martian. One way the Martian
is similar in the movie and the book is the setting and the characters are all the same from the
book to the movie which to me makes a lot of sense because the important roles they play in the
two are part of what makes the story fit from beginning to end. In my opinion they set up the fact
that he is a botanist and that to me is what made the whole story come together. The fact that he
had the skills to grow food to survive on the planet .If it would have been... Show more content on

I feel that as a reader they could tell me how he felt compared to showing me how he felt. The
actor in the movie really showed me how he felt and in the book told me how he felt. The actor in
the movie really showed the emotion and determination to get home to his family again, this was
shown so well to me I felt like I was in the same situation, all the horrible things that happened to
him happened to me.The examples were the reason I felt the book and the movie were different.
As you have read there are many similarities and differences between books and movies
especially in the Martian. You learned about the similarities of the Martian including the
characters and the settings you also learned the differences from the book and the movie of the
Martian which were the emotion and the detail of the formulas these wee all the major examples
of the Martian. In my opinion the Martian was an overall great book and movie combo and I
would recommend it to all readers that have free time to crack open a

The Exploitation Of The Natural Environment
Despite the fact that efforts were made in the past to entrench the rights of the people, people are
still born into a miserable life with no possibilities of escaping of poverty, while others may inherit
fortunes and financial freedom empires. Inequality, like the gap between the rich and the poor, has
never been as critical as it is a present. Unfortunately, the future does not appear to be bright if the
degrading activities of the natural environment continues(7), the expanding shortage of resources,
overpopulation especially in under developing countries as well as the apathy of the majority of
the world brings even worse issues of poverty.
Many under developed countries are trapped in poverty because of the shortage of raw materials,
being forced to resort to trade in order support themselves, as well as overexploitation of the limited
resources they posses. Unable to implement eco friendly technologies in the production processes
and therefore force to use hazardous and cheap methods of production, which is contributed further
degradation of the environment. For instance, many suffer from poverty live on soil that is not
fertile; as a consequence, they are forced to resort to intensive farming. This practice is damaging to
the environment and furthermore, these people do not have the financial means to improve the
technologies they use in agriculture or basis infrastructure in this aspect. As a result, they can only
produce low and insufficient quantities of food in

The Second Theory Of Time
The second theory of the relativity of time is used by Robert Zemeckis in the movie Back to the
Future and Back to the Future Part II. Marty travels back in time in the first movie and back to the
present time, and then in the second he goes into the future, then the present, then the past. Marty
travels through all of these different timeperiods which become altered every time Marty and Doc
travel in time. As they go between different time periods, Marty and Doc encounter different
alternate universes that are coexisting. Every time they go into a different year they have to be
extremely careful as if they disturb anything they will alter the futurecourse of history. This
exemplifies the idea of the second theory of the relativity of... Show more content on

all of these occurred in some form. Robert took these events and placed them into the life of one
man, making it seem as if humans can go back and manipulate the past to our liking. In this case, he
used many special effects to create the reality that we can go back into time and manipulate the
past to our liking. While he does not explicitly say this, it can be assumed that he went into the past
to recreate it to fit his image of the future.
Robert also made the movie Cast Away which uses time in a different fashion than Forrest
Gump. In the movie, Chuck survives a plane crash in the middle of the ocean but is assumed to
have died as he was not found. The civilized world assumes Chuck has died and has a proper
funeral for him. However, Chuck is living on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific
Ocean. In the beginning of the movie Chuck is obsessed with time, everything must be on time
and everything is run and calculated to the second. For example, Chuck demands all of his
employees be on time to the second as he walks around with a stop watch making sure that the
employees make the deadline. When he ends up on the island he starts keeping track of time with
scratches in the rocks as tally marks. After a year or so of the approximately four years he was on
the island, he loses

Business Forecast
Abstract
This Paper examines and compares various forecasting techniques used for qualitative and
quantitative business forecasting and their use in Firstlogic Inc., to forecast the demand under
conditions of uncertainty. Time series and Delphi forecasting methods are considered for this
research to evaluate their ability to make effective decisions regarding the future.
Business Forecasting
Business forecasting is the process of studying historical performance for the purpose of using the
knowledge gained to project future business conditions so that decisions can be made today that
will aid in the achievement of established goals. Forecasting plays a crucial role in today s
uncertain global marketplace. Forecasting is traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This group then feeds back the responses to other members of the group, while never giving away
the identity of the response. The experts are then asked to respond again, after reviewing the
responses of other respondents. This process may continue until a consensus is reached among the
group. The group may be united to form a final consensus (Namvar, 2000, p.8). Time Series
Forecasting Method
Time series techniques are the most popular quantitative method. These techniques use statistical
methods for projecting from historical data. Quantitative techniques are preferred when
appropriate data are available. The main assumption is that the historical pattern will continue
into the future. The two main types of time series forecasting are average smoothing and
exponential smoothing. The moving average is simply a series of arithmetic averages.
Predicting sales for next year is simple. The actual sales for a certain number of years is added,
and then divided by the number of years used to get the moving average. A weighted moving
average is obtained by assigning a specific weight to previous years. The sum of all weights must
equal one. Recent years are given a higher weight (Namvar, 2000, p.13).
Exponential smoothing is simply a subtype of the weighted moving average. A new forecast is a
weighted sum of actual variables (usually sales) in the current year and the weighted forecast of

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Essay
Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common microvascular complications
in diabetes and can result in foot ulceration, ampuation and an impaired quality of life(Carrington
AL, et al 2002,Boulton AJ,et al 2004). The reported prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy
ranges from 16% to as high as 66%2 and its prevelance is believed to increase with the duration
of diabetes and poor glucose control.(Boulton AJ.et al 2000) It s accounts for 50 75% of non
traumatic amputations in diabetic patients.(Holzer SE, et al 1998, Boulton AJM, 1998,Malay DS,
et al 2006)
DPN has been defined as the presence of symptoms and/or signs of peripheral nerve dysfunction in
people with diabetes after the exclusion of other causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assessment and diagnosis
The early diagnosis of neuropathy is crucial to stop progression to advanced stages, and further
complications. (Toopchizadeh V., et al.2016) Early intervention can protect diabetic patients
from a risk of foot ulcers and amputation, improve the quality of life (Vlckova Moravcova E, et al
2008.Van Schie CH. 2008, Ismail K, et al 2007) and mitigate the socioeconomic consequences of
diabetic foot disease. (Davis WA,et al 2006,Lavery LA,et al 2007,Gordois A,et al 2003 )
The diagnosis of DPN is primarily clinical, based on clinical suspicion and confirmatory
examination findings from the history and examination, followed by the exclusion of other
potential causes.(Vinik A, et al 2013) Importantly, in any patients with neuropathy and specifically
patients with a severe form,it is essential to rule out any other causes apart from diabetes such as
,drug induced neuropathy (e.g. isoniazid) , alcohol abuse, nutritional deficiency like vitamin B12
deficiency(Wile DJ,et al 2010),vasculitis , inherited neuropathies, and renal disease (Freeman
R.2009) The clinical presentation of DPN vary markedly from one patient to another depending on
the type of sensory fibers involved. About 50% of patients is symptomatic, commonly present with
a burning

Military Strategies During D-Day
Introduction
World War II was the world s deadliest conflict which lasted from 1939 to 1945. France and the
majority of Western Europe were occupied by Nazi Germany in April 1940. While Britain and the
Soviet Union fought against Germany and Italy, the United States of America did not join the war
until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941. After the attack on Pearl
Harbour, Germany declared war on the United States of America, hence dragging the United States
of America into World War II on the European continent. The Allied nations of the West started to
plan an invasion on German territory. This plan took several years to materialize because it
involved modern warfare technologies such as the organization of ... Show more content on

Reconnaissance missions, studying and observing weather patterns and the ways the Allies kept
the invasion a secret were also military strategies the Allies used to turn the tides of war. With
reconnaissance planes, the Allies were able to scout the enemy s defensive positions. With the
study of weather patterns in Normandy, the Allies were able to decide which day would have the
least amount of wind, waves and clouds so transport ships would not sink and bombers would
have a clearer view of their targets. How the Allies kept their plan a secret was also a strategy to
not let the Germans know their true agenda. The research question, what were the Allies military
strategies used in preparation of the Normandy landings? The analyses of the different strategies
being used in preparation and during D Day will be shown in this essay.
Operation Neptune was the first stage in the liberation of Western Europe and a major step in
defeating Nazi Germany, it was one of the biggest turning points in World War II. The Allies were
able to launch a successful invasion on the beaches of Normandy. With the liberation of the
territory, the Allies were then able to pour in troops to Europe through France, liberate the rest of
the occupied countries, and finally march onward to Berlin. The beaches of Normandy were a
crucial part in the invasion, because it served as an opening point to move further into the heart of
Europe.

  • 2. Essay on College Athletes Should Get Paid Pay for Play Today, sports are no longer fun and games, sports are a business, and college sports are no different. Division I college sports provide a huge source of universities income. The school receives money from ticket sales, television contracts, and sport related merchandise, along with many other sports related revenue builders. The athletes on the other hand, receive their scholarship and little more. While the idea of receiving a free college education is something few would complain about; when the issue is more closely examined it becomes evident that it is not enough. Universities are exploiting athletes, and recently the problems that this creates have become more prominent. More and more athletes are now leaving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another major argument for not compensating college athletes is the fact that we have never done so in the past. Also, at a time of economic crisis, most Universities have other things to worry about, especially because there is no system in place currently that allows student athletes to receive money. The comparison of what student athletes get versus what they give makes it very obvious that they are exploited. Many of the athletes receive their education free, which can range from about $10,000 to more than $40,000 a year. However, college programs generate thousands more off of the athlete. Recently, the University of Notre Dame signed a five season 38 million dollar contract with NBC for its home football games (Wulf 94). If there were 100 full scholarship football players for Notre Dame, that would equal $380,000 per player just from the TV revenues, when the limit of scholarships is usually around eighty. This does not even take into account the ticket revenues, championship or bowl game payouts, and merchandise sold because of the players. Notre Dame is not the only school making million dollar deals like this one. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) makes approximately 242 million dollars off of TV revenues each year, and that number shouldn t do anything but rise (Bruinius 1). When college athletes only receive a scholarship usually somewhere in the ball park of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Emperor Penguin Climate Change These massive changes in climate over millions of years brought about new species and ended others. As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature changes are attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The important question is: how will these changes, man made or otherwise, impact existing species? One easily observed example is Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. With increasing temperature of the ocean, the sea ice where they live melts, eliminating nesting areas, the sea levels rise, reducing shore habitat, and food supply becomes limited. The penguins main diet consists of krill, fish, and squid. Antarctic krill populations, their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay, incubate, and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults leave. However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier. Before the baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the only habitat they know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are swept into the sea where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow for expansion of their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally reduces the population, and they must repopulate to sustain. The specific, freezing march of Emperor penguins to their nesting grounds was displayed in the acclaimed French documentary March of the Penguins. The documentary was recorded in the southern region of Antarctica, where temperatures recorded have less effect on the early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men s and women s teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years). Soccer originated with kicking games played by people in ancient civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. Each player wears hard plastic or padded shingaurd, covered by long socks, for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also wear a special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and 130 yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have deliberately been kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. The game starts off with a kick off, and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick, and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their opponent s goal. If the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw in, where the ball is thrown over the player s head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the goal, or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive team, where the ball is placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal kick, where the ball is placed on the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. These are simple and frequent questions that can be answered by most Sociologist and Theorists. Sociologists and Theorists equate this type of job inequality phenomenon with occupational sexsegregation. Sex segregation in the workplace is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor market. In almost every work setting, it is rare to see men and women working at the same job. When they do, they usually perform different tasks, with unequal levels of responsibility and authority. Even when job tasks are virtually identical, it is not uncommon to find men and women allocated to distinct job... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employers try to maximize profits by maximizing productivity and minimizing costs to the extent possible, but because of competition and efficient labor markets, employers pay workers their marginal product. So, this theory explains why more males than females are surgeons; because they seem to have better opportunities for education and they tend to lack certain obligations that females have. Whereas many women find it difficult to find the time to obtain this education because of their certain obligations life hands them, for example taking care of a family and raising children. When explaining occupational sex segregation by sex, researchers usually distinguish labor supply and labor demand factors. Factors related to labor supply generally focus on why women prefer certain types of occupation for example, women may prefer those with flexible hours in order to allow time for child care, and may also prefer occupations which are relatively easy to interrupt for a period of time to bear or rear children. Explanations related to labor demand focus on why employers generally prefer to hire women or men for particular occupations and why women and men have different opportunities for promotion and career development within firms. The leaves of the bushes and how Romeo is below them show us how he is hiding and can t be seen by anyone, the night sky and how dark it is in this scene also hide Romeo. Juliet is sitting on the ledge of her balcony. In this production, the balcony is made very wide, so in the scene, Juliet can walk along the entire balcony before Romeo speaks. Queen Elizabeth I s reign, otherwise known as the Golden Ages to some, was a time of stability and peace for England, as she solved religious and political complications and ended a war. During the Elizabethan era, there was a growth in art, plays, fashion, and music due to Queen Elizabeth s support. Without Queen Elizabeth s reign, the Elizabethan era would not have existed, causing art to not have had a chance to grow, women of the English Renaissance to be less respected, and England to have faced political and religious challenges. • 20. Organic And Free Range Of Grass Fed Essay Organic. Cage Free. Free Range. Grass Fed. Non GMO. These descriptors are used in grocery stores across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers through their purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any description, how do consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food producers and their governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg, and produce industry are all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday consumer comes in contact with these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely on them to help them make the healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really denoting ethical sourcing, improved health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The rise of organic farmingin the United States came about following the general push to return to a more natural way of life in the late 1960s and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional farming methods that were used exclusively until the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A major force behind this movement was science writer, Rachel Carson who published Silent Spring in 1962 (History). In this work, she focused on the loss of songbirds due to the widespread use of DDT and the otherwise indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and weed killers (History). The women could be from different statuses based on job, wealth, or marital status, but they are would find themselves suffering under the rules of their men. The blues Wild Women Don t Have the Blues by Ida Cox and Mamie s Blues by Jelly Roll Morton talk about the challenges of women living during the Harlem Renaissance. The blues surrounded the African Americanwomen during this time, and these songs talk about women facing hardships in life because they are second class citizens compared to men. The women in these blues are in relationships that have caused their blues. In Cox s blues, the woman is in a relationship with an alcoholic. As a young child, she followed society s rules, because she believed this would grant her a blissful life. Instead she is punished with a horrible relationship and she feels betrayed by her destiny. She regrets living in between the lines, when she could have lived frivolously like a wild woman. Morton s song describes the life of a wild woman described in Cox s song. The woman lives in the city and is in a relationship with an unemployed man. Although she is not trapped in a house like the previous song, she is trapped being the sole breadwinner for herself and her man. The woman is described as being wild because she is acting improperly by openly begging to men for money. When a woman begs for money, it exposes the man for not providing for ... Divorce Is A Win And A Loss For Parents And Children Divorce is a Win and a Loss for Parents and Children The divorce rate in today s society according to Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is higher than ever. Although people have a legal right to file for divorce, it is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of a Divorce Culture , that divorcehas become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s society, divorce is viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for divorce with no stigma. Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also shows reasons why couples should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final decision such as their children s consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce culture as a very serious ethical problem by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and how their children can be effected by it. Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem, people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is for their own satisfaction. We never know what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and what types of issues they are going through. Whitehead mentions in her article about how abusive and how demolorizing some relationships can be. We will review the methods of explicit phonics and whole language to examine what, if any, is the more advantageous method of reading instruction for students who live in poverty. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the impacts of specific reading instruction on the literacy development of children and how socioeconomics restricts these impacts. The research reviewed was collected from peer review journals using the Central Search feature on the UCO Chambers Library website. The majority of the researcher s findings came from EBSCOhost Education Research Complete and JSTOR: Journal Storage. Given the findings of this literature review, research suggests that explicit phonics instruction, when embedded in a whole language classroom, promotes growth in literacy skills among young children. These disorders have symptoms of memory dysfunction, depression and anxiety; Dr. Byrnes and her team at the Uniformed Services University have examined mouse models to find the cellular mechanisms for these symptoms. When the brainexperiences a traumatic injury, several cellular level events happen quickly. First, there is an increase in supporting cell membrane permeability which leads to a rise in non specific ion influx, followed by a rapid increase in glucose uptake. This increased glucose uptake results in increased in energy generation in an effort to correct the membrane permeability dysfunction. The major route neurons use to increase their glucose ... • 43. The Cardiovascular System, The Workhorse Of The Body The cardiovascular system, the workhorse of the body, has long been an object of fascination by civilizations. How does such a tiny muscle support the life of a human for such a long period of time? The answer lies within the physiology of the cardiovascular system itself. Simple one celled organisms had one major problem when it came to the diffusion of oxygen, the oxygen required by a mammal for instance, would be much greater than the rate at which these cells could diffuse oxygen. Thus the need for a more efficient process was integral in the creation of cardiovascular system as we know it today. The ability of the heartto pump bloodfast enough (and in continuous loops) allows for this absorption of vital nutrients in a prompt manner. However the common knowledge we have currently about the way this system works is a relatively new understanding. In the 17th century, an Italian anatomist named Marcello Malpighi observed the capillary exchange between interstitial fluid and blood. This idea was a radical one (p.463 464). Common belief at the time was that the cardiovascular system distributed both blood and air. Many had thought that blood was produced in the liver and was distributed through the veins and also believed that it was the arteries that distributed oxygen to the body. William Harvey disproved this belief when he discovered that that weight of blood pumped by the heart in one hour exceeds the weight of the entire body. He soon discovered the one way loop in ... Andrew Ladd Case Study This summer, general manager Garth Snow went out and signed Andrew Ladd to a big money deal and Jason Chimera to replace the departed Matt Martin, hoping to add some additional veteran leadership to a team coming off its first playoff round victory in over 20 years. Even though the offensive numbers have been slow to arrive (Chimera with 4 5 9 in 25 games but three goals past five games and Ladd 3 3 6 in 25 games but 1 2 3 in past five games), they have combined with existing veterans to help the Islanders out of the types of malaise that struck the team during the months of October (4 5 0) and November (4 5 4). Martian Compare And Contrast Book And Movie Have you ever read a book and watched the movie of it after and had that moment when you realize all the similarities and differences this is very true for almost every book and movie combo are like this. One book and movie combo like this was the martian. One way the Martian is similar in the movie and the book is the setting and the characters are all the same from the book to the movie which to me makes a lot of sense because the important roles they play in the two are part of what makes the story fit from beginning to end. In my opinion they set up the fact that he is a botanist and that to me is what made the whole story come together. • 46. The Exploitation Of The Natural Environment Despite the fact that efforts were made in the past to entrench the rights of the people, people are still born into a miserable life with no possibilities of escaping of poverty, while others may inherit fortunes and financial freedom empires. Inequality, like the gap between the rich and the poor, has never been as critical as it is a present. Unfortunately, the future does not appear to be bright if the degrading activities of the natural environment continues(7), the expanding shortage of resources, overpopulation especially in under developing countries as well as the apathy of the majority of the world brings even worse issues of poverty. Many under developed countries are trapped in poverty because of the shortage of raw materials, being forced to resort to trade in order support themselves, as well as overexploitation of the limited resources they posses. Unable to implement eco friendly technologies in the production processes and therefore force to use hazardous and cheap methods of production, which is contributed further degradation of the environment. For instance, many suffer from poverty live on soil that is not fertile; as a consequence, they are forced to resort to intensive farming. This practice is damaging to the environment and furthermore, these people do not have the financial means to improve the technologies they use in agriculture or basis infrastructure in this aspect. As a result, they can only produce low and insufficient quantities of food in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Second Theory Of Time The second theory of the relativity of time is used by Robert Zemeckis in the movie Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II. Marty travels back in time in the first movie and back to the present time, and then in the second he goes into the future, then the present, then the past. Marty travels through all of these different timeperiods which become altered every time Marty and Doc travel in time. As they go between different time periods, Marty and Doc encounter different alternate universes that are coexisting. Every time they go into a different year they have to be extremely careful as if they disturb anything they will alter the futurecourse of history. This exemplifies the idea of the second theory of the relativity of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... all of these occurred in some form. Robert took these events and placed them into the life of one man, making it seem as if humans can go back and manipulate the past to our liking. In this case, he used many special effects to create the reality that we can go back into time and manipulate the past to our liking. While he does not explicitly say this, it can be assumed that he went into the past to recreate it to fit his image of the future. Robert also made the movie Cast Away which uses time in a different fashion than Forrest Gump. In the movie, Chuck survives a plane crash in the middle of the ocean but is assumed to have died as he was not found. The civilized world assumes Chuck has died and has a proper funeral for him. However, Chuck is living on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the beginning of the movie Chuck is obsessed with time, everything must be on time and everything is run and calculated to the second. For example, Chuck demands all of his employees be on time to the second as he walks around with a stop watch making sure that the employees make the deadline. When he ends up on the island he starts keeping track of time with scratches in the rocks as tally marks. After a year or so of the approximately four years he was on the island, he loses ... Forecasting plays a crucial role in today s uncertain global marketplace. Forecasting is traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This group then feeds back the responses to other members of the group, while never giving away the identity of the response. The experts are then asked to respond again, after reviewing the responses of other respondents. This process may continue until a consensus is reached among the group. The group may be united to form a final consensus (Namvar, 2000, p.8). Time Series Forecasting Method Time series techniques are the most popular quantitative method. These techniques use statistical methods for projecting from historical data. Quantitative techniques are preferred when appropriate data are available. The main assumption is that the historical pattern will continue into the future. The two main types of time series forecasting are average smoothing and exponential smoothing. The moving average is simply a series of arithmetic averages. Predicting sales for next year is simple. The actual sales for a certain number of years is added, and then divided by the number of years used to get the moving average. A weighted moving average is obtained by assigning a specific weight to previous years. The sum of all weights must equal one. Recent years are given a higher weight (Namvar, 2000, p.13). Exponential smoothing is simply a subtype of the weighted moving average. A new forecast is a weighted sum of actual variables (usually sales) in the current year and the weighted forecast of ... Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Essay Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common microvascular complications in diabetes and can result in foot ulceration, ampuation and an impaired quality of life(Carrington AL, et al 2002,Boulton AJ,et al 2004). The reported prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy ranges from 16% to as high as 66%2 and its prevelance is believed to increase with the duration of diabetes and poor glucose control.(Boulton AJ.et al 2000) It s accounts for 50 75% of non traumatic amputations in diabetic patients.(Holzer SE, et al 1998, Boulton AJM, 1998,Malay DS, et al 2006) DPN has been defined as the presence of symptoms and/or signs of peripheral nerve dysfunction in people with diabetes after the exclusion of other causes ... • 50. Military Strategies During D-Day Introduction World War II was the world s deadliest conflict which lasted from 1939 to 1945. France and the majority of Western Europe were occupied by Nazi Germany in April 1940. While Britain and the Soviet Union fought against Germany and Italy, the United States of America did not join the war until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbour, Germany declared war on the United States of America, hence dragging the United States of America into World War II on the European continent. The Allied nations of the West started to plan an invasion on German territory. This plan took several years to materialize because it involved modern warfare technologies such as the organization of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reconnaissance missions, studying and observing weather patterns and the ways the Allies kept the invasion a secret were also military strategies the Allies used to turn the tides of war. With reconnaissance planes, the Allies were able to scout the enemy s defensive positions. With the study of weather patterns in Normandy, the Allies were able to decide which day would have the least amount of wind, waves and clouds so transport ships would not sink and bombers would have a clearer view of their targets. How the Allies kept their plan a secret was also a strategy to not let the Germans know their true agenda. The research question, what were the Allies military strategies used in preparation of the Normandy landings? The analyses of the different strategies being used in preparation and during D Day will be shown in this essay. Operation Neptune was the first stage in the liberation of Western Europe and a major step in defeating Nazi Germany, it was one of the biggest turning points in World War II. The Allies were able to launch a successful invasion on the beaches of Normandy. With the liberation of the territory, the Allies were then able to pour in troops to Europe through France, liberate the rest of the occupied countries, and finally march onward to Berlin. The beaches of Normandy were a crucial part in the invasion, because it served as an opening point to move further into the heart of Europe.
