Job Search Inventory
Enrollment in program would begin with taking the Job Search Attitude Inventory. Every new
woman taking residence in the home would take the job search inventory to address her attitudes
about looking for employment. Results of the inventory would allow her to consider areas for
improvement in her work skills and empower her to take more time to be self directed in looking
for work options. This short, straightforward method of assessment would identify women who are
willing and able to seek employment. Completion of the exam takes 20 minutes and provides a
useful measure of the attitude of job seekers. Self esteem is a strong factor in motivational thoughts
and actions within a job search. Counseling sessions (group and individual) after completion of the

Housing In China
Housing in India and China China is by far the most populated country in the world. With
billions of people China has many different way in which they are housed. From farm villages to
gigantic cities the Chinese all need a place to live. Like the other countries in this paper China is
mostly rural countryside where farmers grow everything from rice to wheat. With the exception of
it s mountains and hills, the overwhelming majority of Chinese settlements are rural compact
villages. The formation of these villages are caused by it water source, population and in earlier
years, defense. Live in these villages are very simple and have not changed for centuries. Even with
populations in the thousands farm villages have no aspect of... Show more content on

As factories and mining centers where developed, cities and towns were built around them.
People who live in cities usually live in large apartment buildings. There is good heath care,
schools, but they are generally very crowded. Large roadways and railroad systems also helped
to spread urbanization throughout the country. In China, because of communism, there are no
classes. People are either poor or wealthy, there is not much of a median. Government officials
live in the bigger cities in large estates. Today, China is on the cutting edge of architecture. Huge
skyscrapers have been built and other nations have been taking in what the Chinese have built.
In earlier years China was the most technologically advanced civilization in the world.
Reminders of this era still stand today, like the great wall and the emperors palace. Also, we can
see reminders of this period in our own country for example, the Chinese theater in Hollywood.
Now China s style in decoration is a popular trend it s art and luxurious nature. In conclusion,
housing and the way people live, are very similar yet different between the three countries China,
India, and Africa. I believe the best way to learn about it is to actually go there which I hope to do
someday. Housing in India India has the second highest population in the world, only surpassed by
China. India s billion plus citizens live in huge cities

Gone Girl By David Fincher
In the way a finger leaves a print specific to the touch of its owner, auteurs stylize elements of their
works so that their creation is definitive enough to be traced back to its creator. In order to identify
these definitive components, an auteur must establish common thematic and formal elements that
their texts typically contain. In David Finchers film Gone Girl (2014), Amy Dunne suddenly
vanishes, seemingly from violent kidnapping, leaving her husband, Nick Dunne, in a media frenzy
over his suspected involvement in her disappearance. The film utilizes some of his most common
thematic elements: paternal or maternal abandonment during childhood and its influence on
adulthood, the poststructuralist critique of social systems, and... Show more content on

Amy s mother and father abandoned their hopes of having a daughter that was as successful as
they desired by creating an improved version of Amy in their lucrative children s series, Amazing
Amy. Entrenched in the comparison of her fictitious counterpart, Amy lives her life fooling those
around her to believe she is an enhanced version of herself while silently dwelling on her discovery
of Nick s infidelity. The individuals that Nick and Amy become because of these childhood
influences cause them to comply with another prevalent thematic element: Fincher s men act, often
recklessly, but his women know (Orgeron et al. 2011). In this example, Nick s infidelity is his
reckless behavior, while Amy s knowing is her false appearance of ignorance, but as Orgeron
states, ...behind this static gaze lies a more complete, more complex knowledge of the American
family, its dissolution, its decay. This idea of reckless men and knowing women is also an
important thematic element in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Zodiac (2007), and Seven
(1995). Frequently presented in Fincher s films is a poststructuralist critique of one or more social
systems (present in Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon
Tattoo, and Zodiac). In Gone Girl, the two systems under criticism are the judicial system and tv
news broadcasting. Although initially remaining compliant with the policemen that are

Internal Control Project Paper
Introduction of Dentistar and the problem Dentistar, Inc. was formed in 1985 to provide dental
and orthodontic services to subscribers of their prepaid dental plans. This report examines the
western region s office, located in Los Angeles, and its issuance of excessive manual checks that
resulted in multiple bank overdrafts. Results indicate that only minimal efforts have been made for
internal control measures in this office and companywide, and that weaknesses have allowed the
Finance Coordinator to embezzle funds. There are many issues to be addressed, and several
remedial actions to be taken to prevent these types of losses going forward. Strengths in the internal

If any unauthorized transactions took place, the evidence is gone when the account is deleted.
Errors in segregation of duties are prevalent as well. The current tasks for the Finance Coordinator
position leave Dentistar open to internal control nightmares. This position is given responsibility to
consolidate information and calculate amounts for manual disbursements, prepare checks, maintain
regional accounting files, collect past due accounts receivable, organize financial data for audit,
and assist with human resources. Beyond that he is indirectly, through severe weaknesses in
internal control, given the ability to authorize refunds, issue payments for operating expenditures
and affect the general ledger. These duties and implied responsibilities effectively give him
custody, authority, recording, and review powers, which is a gross disregard for internal control.
Moreover, all personnel can create operating expenditures instead of one or a small number of
people, so auditors aren t able to trace expenses to individuals. Adequate speed of updating
information and open lines of communication are important for all companies. However, slow
reactions are causing control deficiencies. Regional employees are allowed to issue disbursements
that would take too long for the home office to make, but these transactions draw from accounts

Critically assess the view that a concept of miracles is...
Critically assess the view that a concept of miracles is inconsistent with a belief in a benevolent
God. (35 marks)
Before one is able to debate the ideas of inconsistency surrounding miracles, we must define and
clarify what a miracle actually is. One definition is an event caused by God, this view is
traditionally supported by Christians and philosophers such as Aquinas. A second definition is a
violation of the laws of nature which is most commonly associated with David Hume. These two
definitions usually underlie the way in which people approach the question of God acting in the
world, thus impacting ones interpretation of miracles showing a benevolent God. Benevolence is
used to describe God being a good and loving God. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although this could have been down to a mis diagnoses which distorted the idea of a miracle
occurring. Overall, the inconsistencies with miracles present a biased God. Why would a
benevolent God only perform to people who visit Lourdes and not non believers ? Overall this
shows God to not be benevolent because the miracles he performs are inconsistent and biased.
Keith Ward stated that God is purposely inconsistent with miracles, and does not act within the
world often so he does not undermine our free will, thus presenting a transcendent God. In his
book Divine Action he stated that if God helps person X rather than person Y , it may be
because person X has a more potentially important role in the working out of the divine purpose
then person Y . Therefore God s inconsistency is deliberate and his actions are beyond our human
understanding. This supports the concept of God being benevolent as he performs miracles for
the greater good of the people, he can t save everyone, as this would undermine the significance
of miracles, however he does intervene when it will make a large impact in the bigger picture.
However, Hawkins stated that a good theory is one that is straight forward. Ward presents his
argument based on a lot of assumptions. As Gods actions and purpose in the world is beyond our
understanding, it is impossible for us to understand the significance and purpose of miracles. It is
impossible for us to know what God s plan is. Who are we to

Pablo Picasso s Cubism And Henri Matisse Fauvism
Art before the 20th century consisted of new styles and three dimensional spectrums to create the
most realistic painting possible. Portraits and landscapes were presented as sort of photographs
with a paint brush. Everything required specific fundamentals and anything different would be
rejected and labeled degenerate. During this time, foundations were put to the test and it was
completely disordered by revolutionary ideas and styles. This art influenced a vast majority of
modern day art. Pablo Picassos cubismand Henri Matisse fauvism helped shape this era not only in
style of painting, but a revolution against conformity of a social artistic structure.
Cubism was a style of painting imagined, created, and performed by Pablo Picasso. ... Show more

This gives it a much more vivid mood (Southgate, 1131).
Fauvism is an ideological style of painting that Henri Matisse is famously known for. Fauvism
consists of very strong colors that interfere with the realism portrayed by the painting. The goal of
this is to not only paint on a canvas, but create a story and all sorts of moods to the painting thanks
to the beautiful use of oddly realistic colors. This tactic also influenced some of Picasso s work,
including the Les Demoiselles d Avignon. These painting styles created a whole new era in
traditional painting that revolutionized art itself. Without these ideas, modern art will not be
anywhere close to what it has developed into. The influence these artists and their ideas took on
20th century art, changed art and how we will see it forever.
Henri Matisse s Fauvism contributed to this revolutionary. Henri Matisse was born on
December 31, 1869 and died on November 3, 1954. He was a French artist mostly recognized by
his use of color and diversity of spectrums in his art. Very much like Pablo Picasso, he was a
draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but he was known primarily as a painter. He developed
the idea of favism art in 20th century art. A particular painting that Henri Matisse is known for is
his Joy of Life (Le Bonheur de Vivre) (1905 06). During Henri s Fauvism era, he

Emily Grierson Traits
In William Faulkner s A Rose of Emily, Miss Emily Grierson says very little because she has no
desire to speak to anyone. Remove all of Miss Emily s utterances from the context of the story.
Write them down as you would a list. What three character traits can be inferred from her
speeches? In three well developed paragraphs, discuss three character traits revealed by Miss
Emily s dialogue alone. Length: 350 500 words. Miss Emily is an old style southern belle
ensnared in a culture bent on forcing her to stay in her task. She adheres to the old ways even as
she struggles to break free. When she is not even 40, she is on a way that entails dying alone in
an apparently ghostly house. The story, A Rose for Emily, opens to the viewing of Miss Emily
s death. The tale summons up the Emily s through flashbacks of several points, much like every
persons mind in life when recalling (Faulkner, pg 56). The speaker talks about how much of a
trouble Miss Emily was to the township as a result of her old fashion ways. All through the story,
we learn about Miss Emily s partner standings and isolation. Her character is a very old fashion
woman who still believed in the confederate period and was follower to those policies.... Show

Helen might be considered as weak, or as reluctant to take a stand in opposition to her father in

Christmas came early for this Cleveland College. Andrew Hawkins and the Cleveland Browns
visited the Cleveland College preparatory school with Christmas presents.
For Andrew Hawkins, he remembered how tough it was when he was a young boy. He decided
that it should not be that way for these kids. He recalls being raised by his mother with other kids in
the house. He details how his mom put all of them through private schools, as reported by Pro

According to Andrew Hawkins, his mom would work on Christmas eve to make ends meet, as

The Acceptance of Homosexuality in South Africa Essay
The Acceptance of Homosexuality in South Africa
For hundreds of years South Africa has endured a constant power struggle, oppression under the
apartheid government, the AIDS epidemic and homophobia. Internationally there are currently four
countries that permit same sex marriages, which include the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and
Canada. Even though homosexuality remains largely taboo in South Africa, the country is taking
steps towards overall equality and improved human rights allowing such unions to take place where
this lifestyle was once forbidden.
In modern day Africa homosexuality is illegal for gay men in 29 countries and for lesbians in 20
countries making homophobia a widespread epidemic. This legal status of homosexuals in ... Show

This same visibility is seen today in the United States growing more and more. You can see same
sex coupes holding hands in public and displaying the rainbow flag in plain view to show their
pride and in some to confront the stereotypes against gay people in Africa.
The increasing visibility of same sex couples and the increased visibility of homosexuality did not
necessarily mean more gay men and women were coming out. For an African coming out is a
continual process because it involves additional cultural and social factors that play a major role.
The process is more difficult because the African family structure in much more connected than that
in the United States. If something affects one person in a family it affects everyone. Coming out
deals with homophobic churches, strong family foundations and ties that emphasize
heterosexuality, and the overall negative connotation associated with the GLBT community.
In the African community your stance on homosexuality is influenced by the church, you either do
not talk about it or you condemn it completely. In 2004 Africa s Anglican archbishops vowed not to
accept any donations from Western churches that support the ordination of gay priests. Even though
most churches in Africa depend on this funding from the West they continue to deny assistance. To

Biodiesel And Its Effects On Our Environment
Biodiesel is a fuel similar to diesel derived from a plant source, like corn, used vegetable oil, or
even algae. This biofuel is created from renewable resources to replace the low source of fossil
fuels that is unfortunately nonrenewable. Because of this situation society was basically coerced
into finding a substitute. While the price is getting higher due to recent events between the United
States (U.S. )and Third World Countries. Due to these situations society had to come up with a
cheaper, renewable source of fuel. Biodieselis the key to releasing the chains of restraint that have
been placed upon citizens by those third world countries. Society can take that crop, oil, or pond
scum to make a biodiesel we can save our environment, and economy. As said before, it is the
key to the public s restraint, as well as our future and fresh air. Biodiesel will also help with the
noise pollution because we will be using less of the oil well boom to get the crude oil. Another
bonus would be there would be less fracking which means less harmful chemical and natural gas
getting into people s water supply. Meaning there will be less flammable water coming out of a
household faucet. Because when they frack using water with a thickening agent of some kind to
help create pressure. that pressure is used to crack the shale rock that is holding the natural gas.
When that gas is released it contaminates nearby drinking water with the chemical used to make the
thickening agent. while

Political Science Is An Article Written By Hans Noel
Political science is known to be one of the most ignored sciences there are. Over the years, there
has not been a demand for everyone to pay attention to politics because people always have their
own opinion anyways. Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don t was an article written
by Hans Noel. His main objective to writing this was to inform readers of the reasons why politicsis
something that is important to understand. Many journalists and bloggers became more aware of
politics and want to know more about what political scientists actually know. This article also wants
to inform many people that political scienceis something that you can study over a period of time,
which is the real reason to pay attention to elections. Hans Noel came up with 10 different things
that political scientists know but American citizens do not.
Main Topic As I was reading Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don t, there was a
particular finding of Noels that is relevant to today s election. I think the first topic, which was
called It s The Fundamentals, Stupid, was the most interesting because it points out the obvious
things that happen when politicians and their team try to come up with different campaigns,
slogans and other stuff that will catch citizens off guard. I think that this is most important part in
a campaign because this is where citizens get a first look of who you are, and decide if they will
like you or not. Since Americans do not dig deep into

Jim Boeeney Case Study
After Thanksgiving, life was pretty great for Jim Boeheim s basketball team and Orange fans
across the country. However, after last Thursday, life as a Syracuse fan was decisively different.
The Orange have dropped their last two games to unranked Wisconsin and Georgetown; and
despite a late comeback against the Hoyas, Cuse did not look good in almost any respect during
either game. Going forward, there are three clear problems and the team now led by assistant
coach and head coach designate, Mike Hopkins, due to Boeheim s nine game suspension must
focus on to break back into the top 25 and pose a threat in the ACC.
1. Rebounding
The rebounding deficiency of this team has become glaring in the past two games. Over those
games, the Orange were out rebounded by a total of 80 to 53. Yes, this year s Syracuse squad is not
filled with big players outside of Dejaun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Close outs
While the first two issues are blatant, this is slightly less obvious, but right now Syracuse is
doing a poor job of closing out on opposing players on the three point line as other teams zip the
ball around the arc to find the holes in Syracuse s 2 3 zone. Like most of Boeheim s teams, this
team is long and athletic, but is currently trusting their skills a little too much. When approaching
potential shooters, Orange players are charging out, leading too easy drive bys or passes into the
lane and the vulnerable spots in the 2 3. And even when the other team isn t moving the ball that
fast, Syracuse is jumping at the slightest fakes instead of staying grounded in good defensive
stances.
Those are the three most apparent problems with this year s Orange team. With a game against
Colgate tonight, one would hope, and reasonably expect, that the Orange will be able to get
back on track, at least for now. The good news going forward, is that all of these issues are very
fixable, and Jim Boeheim has a long and strong track record of improving his teams over the
course of the

Beetle Pursue Analysis
The future is seeming bright for my general population of animals. Sauron ate for me while I
was watching for the first time today. He had eaten three whole annulipes a ravenous appetite for
a guy with such a tiny face. I even had the opportunity to hold him a while, while he ate his
second pincher bug on my thumb. He handles pretty well for a ground skink. Even the wolf
spiders, notorious for having bad temperaments, decided to be on their best behavior for me
(Colette especially). Now that I have only one spiderRoman died it ll be easier to handle her on a
daily basis.
I think my rhino beetle larvae is fascinating. These are insects that stay underground and inside
rotted logs for 12 to 18 long months through all seasons and weather conditions that earth slings at
them. These are insects that grow up to be a staggering six inches (the males, that is), surviving as
long as three years on this immense planet. The world is its plaything after it survives and
metamorphosizes into a beetle, finally, as few predators are big enough to eat the mammoth
creature. They are strictly herbivorous, eating plant decay as larvae and vegetation and living
plants as adults. I wonder how long Houdini has left until he turns into a pupae? Even if he does

Dance of the Tumblers is from an opera that is The Snow Maiden. The opera is built in 1952. I
do not know they are similar with each other or not, because I did not see the opera before. This
music is intense. It is 2/4 time. There are 2 beats per measure and the quarter note gets one beat.
The main melody is based on the violin and violoncello. Let the entire opening sounds full of
strength. Before this track has always been a minute part of A and B played alternately. Part A is a
powerful ensemble sounds. The melody of Part B sounds of some relatively gentle. In general, this
music makes me feel positive. DanzГіn No.2 originated in 1993. It is Mexico classic style music. It
begins so warm. And then change from violin to be exciting. It makes me feel so nervous, like
war will come. The main melody is most based on flute and

The Importance Of The Theatrical Space And How It Can...
In the words of Gay McAuley, for an activity to be regarded as a performance, it must involve the
live presence of the performers and those witnessing it... (McAuley, 2009, cited in Schechner, 2013,
pp.38). This statement recognises the importance of both the actor and the audience for something
to truly function as a performance. In addition, Lloyd Llewellyn Jones highlights the significance of
the theatrical space and how it can influence an audiencestating that on entering a theatreof any
kind, a spectator walks into a specific space, one that is designed to produce a certain reaction or
series of responses (Llewellyn Jones, 2002, pp.3). The relationship between actor, audience and
theatrical space is no less important today than it was at the time of theatre during the Spanish
Golden Age and the creation of Commedia dell arte in Italy. Despite being very close
geographically with theatre thriving for both in the same era, sources that explore the social,
cultural and historical context of these countries and the theatre styles will bring to light the
similarities and differences. This essay will analyse the staging, the behaviour of the audience as
well as the challenges the actors faced, and how this directly influenced the relationship between
actor, audience and theatrical space.
Commedia dell arte was established during the sixteenth century at a time when theatre flourished
in Italy. Despite such a rich time for the arts, a divide in the church as well as

Dress For Success Meaning
The phrase Dress for Success is used throughout the lives of many people in different ways. This
expression can guide people through various situations and has different meanings according to the
person comprehending it. For me the expression can mean two different things depending on the
circumstance. It can either mean having a certain state of mind when trying to accomplish
something or acting a certain way that you want your peers to perceive you.
When thinking of the phrase Dress for Success the first definition that I come up with is having a
certain state of mind when you are trying to accomplish something. You have to act and think a
certain way when dealing with different tasks, for example when you are at a job interview it

It executes Bataille s need to express through his writings what could not be contained by the
cultural system within which he lived and worked, and it expresses his need to recognize the
existence of what the system cannot contain the vision of that other eye out of which he looks at
the world. Thus rather than dismiss this text as juvenile or adolescent writing, readers should be
aware of it as an early declaration of identity formation, one affected by actual events in his life and,
although overwhelmingly privileging his sexual obsessions, one which contains nevertheless the
core of his thinking.
In Bataille s profession of librarianship, cataloging or classification of material becomes obsessive

My Vision For America Essay
The first English settlers arrived in the New World around the early 1600 s and established
colonies. About a year and a half later, our amazing and beautiful country took place. America
has been alive and ever blossoming for 239 years. Our goal subsists to keeping that number high.
My visions for America so we can keep blossoming remain as follows: a strong military force, a
healthy society, and a faithful unity of people. Developing and sustaining a powerful military
force takes the place as the first of my visions for America. On the day, September 29, 1789, our
country s first official military force came about. That day meant that, from this time forward we
will do our absolute best to defend our country. So far we have kept our word; aside from only a
few losses. After reading that, we can t lose hope; we can t let down now, we must push forward in
this goal! In the beginning process of our military addition we had the early equipment and

Coral reefs are wonderful places in the ocean they can be found in shallow water where it is warm
and unpolluted. Funny thing is even though they look like plants they are living organisms. There
are many kinds like lettuce coral, fire coral, and leather coral. There is also a lot of sea life like
cuttlefish, manta ray, and reef whitetip shark. Speaking of sharks, the coral reef is also where many
sharks feed.
Great white sharks are really interesting because of their unique features. One of these features is

In my opinion, media today distort the news. In the book Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the

possible motives behind such a choice (Goldberg, 2014). With today s technology advances and

Marketing Audit Process
THE MARKETING AUDIT PROCESS
How is a marketing Audit conducted?
We recommend that the following simple three step procedure be followed when carrying out a
marketing audit.
1.Setting the Objectives and Scope
The first step calls for a meeting between the student (the auditor) and a company officer(s) to
explore the nature of the marketing operations and the potential value of the marketing audit. If the
company officer is convinced of the potential benefits of the marketing audit, he and the auditor
(student) will then work an agreement on the objectives, coverage, depth, data sources, report
format, and the time period of the audit. A questionnaire covering the entire scope will then be
developed ready for the next stage

Marketing Environment Audit
By marketing environment, we mean both the macro environment surrounding the industry and the
task environment in which the organisation intimately operates. The macro environment consists of
the large scale forces and factors influencing the company s future over which the company has
very little control. These forces are normally divided into economic demographic factors,
technological factors, political legal factors, and social cultural factors. The marketing auditor s task
is to assess the key trends and their implications for company marketing action.
However, if the company has a good long range forecasting department, then there is less need of
need for a macro environment audit.
The marketing auditor may play a more critical role in auditing the company s task environment.
The task environment consists of markets, customers, competitors, distributors and dealers,
suppliers, and marketing facilitators. The marketing auditor can make a contribution by going out
into the field and interviewing various parties to assess their current thinking and attitudes and
bringing them to the attention of management.
Marketing Strategy Audit
The marketing auditor then proceeds to consider whether the company s marketing strategy is well
postured in the light of the opportunities and problems facing the company. The starting point for
the marketing strategy audit is the corporate goals and objectives

MySQL 1. What was the business model of MySQL?
Orignal Business model Originally, MySQL collected one time licensing revenues from original
equipment manufacturers (OEM) businesses. These were businesses that redistributed MySQL
embedded into their own products as in a standalone application. This was based on the dual
license model for open source database. In the dual license model, software is available both
under a General public license (GPL) , usually for non commercial end users, and under a
commercial license for non GPL ed redistribution.

Microsoft had already offered a zero price product for a long time, Sysbase, since 2004. Oracle
had acquired the two main transactional engines that MySQL could have used, namely Innobase
and its replacement Sleepycat. In a way it gave Oracle some control as a partner with MySQL.
Increasing competition: New open source database startups such as db4o leveraged open source
community for development, marketing and sales and hence enjoyed an extremely low cost
structure. This enabled them to expand their customer base in enterprise domain. Some closed
source databases became open source. Eg: Cloudscape from IBM. This further increased the
competition. 3. What is the current status of MySQL?
MySQL status in 2006: Though it had 8 million active installations and 50,000 downloads per
day, only 1 in 1000 productive installations ended up as paid MySQL customer. In April 2006,
Oracle renewed the contract between InnoBase and MySQL in a multi year agreement, effectively
becoming a MySQL partner. Mickos sees growth opportunities and plans to raise sales upto $ 100
million and to go public by 2008. Oracle clearly recognizes MySQL as its competitor though battle
lines are a bit blurry in MySQL camp. CEO Mickos looks at Oracle as too big to be considered as a
competitor while EVP of Sales, Burton, sees them as competitor only in select markets like Large
Enterprise category.

My Experience Of High School Experience In Middle School
When I was in middle school, I was on the quiz bowl team. The tournaments were nonchalant, the

Strolling into the classroom for my first day of practice, I realized I was surrounded by people

Mental Illness In Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
Throughout her life, novelist Virginia Woolf suffered with mental illness, and she ultimately
ended her life at age 59. As art often imitates life, it is not surprising that characters in Woolf s
works also struggle with mental illness. One of her novels, Mrs. Dalloway, recounts a day in the
life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high society woman living in London, and those who run in her circle.
As the novel progresses the reader sees one of the characters, Septimus, struggle with post traumatic
stress disorder brought on by serving in war. At the end of the story, he commits suicide. While
there is no explicit articulation of any other character suffering from mental illness in the novel,
Septimus is not alone. Through her thoughts and actions, we can deduce that Clarissa also
endures mental and emotional suffering. Though Clarissa does not actually attempt to end her
life in the novel, her mental and emotional suffering lead her to exhibit suicidal tendencies. To
prove this, I will examine Clarissa s thoughts and actions from a psychological perspective.
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the following are
considered warning signs of suicide talking about feeling trapped, and talking about a feeling of
hopelessness or having no reason to live ( Suicidal Behavior ). In Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa rarely
talks openly about how she is feeling, so the other characters in the novel seldom see Clarissa as
anything but the version of herself she

Laarmans as a clear example, sells his soul to Hornstra , which is a form of biblical imagery. Not
only does the name Hornstra ring a bell of the generalized image of the devil, but the act of

significance for many in the 1930s. Elsschot took advantage of the situation and was not only
able to tell his story more effectively, but the passage also shows that he was still aware of the

Regulation of Violent Video Games
Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form
of Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video
games. It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge
that few children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video
games, dating back to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as
killing the bad person, driving dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology
including software, modern computers and other game related technology, the way in which such
violence and other extreme sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic.
Further, as more and more children are getting exposed violent games, there is a growing
awareness among both parents and the government for regulation of such games. Also, apart from
the fact that people were, in general, becoming more aware and conscious, numerous studies were
also being done to find connection between violent video games and the rate at which violence and
crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of a positive correlation. Incidents such
as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened concerns of a potential connection
between video games and violent actions. Many independent social workers including politicians

The MLB is actually a joint organizational structure that has operated both the American League

This is because players can easily reach 4 to 50 home runs in a season. This is in great contrast
to the dead ball era. Thus came the phantom pitch called the gyroball. This type of pitch was
called such because although it is quite effective, very few can do it, like college player Joey
Niezer and Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Another interesting bit of trivia regarding baseball is the first team to wear a baseball uniform,
the New York Knickerbockers. It happened on April 4, 1849 and the uniforms they wore were
made of white flannel shirts, blue wool pants and straw hats. By 1900, all teams in the Major
League wore uniforms.
In 2005, following the steroid scandal in baseball wherein there were allegations of the MLB top
players using illegal, performance enhancing drugs, stricter policies regarding steroid use were
implemented. The policy suspends players for 10 games for first time offenders, 30 games for
second time offenders, 60 games for third, one full year for fourth time offenders and a penalty

The Origins Of Virtue By The Zoologist Matt Ridley
The zoologist Matt Ridley explores the question of why human beings are so cooperative, even
though we are built of selfish genes in his book: The Origins of Virtue. The book lines up a large
selection of examples of cooperation, utilizing different scientific approaches such as economy,
sociology, evolutionary biology, anthropology (Rinaldo, 1997). It argues that in some human
relationships natural selectionpromotes virtue and trust, but at the same time humans are egoistic
and motivated by self interest (Leigh, 2000). The book begins with the description of the genetic
foundations of human nature and argues that cooperation is grounded in evolutionary theory
(Dugatkin, 1998) and describes cooperation and selfishness utilizing the examples of ants, corals,
bees, mother and embryo relationship. Next, the division of labour is examined using the notion
of Adam Smith about specialization which is essential to trade and elevates the society to be
more than just the sum of its parts. Chapter 3 is devoted to the Prisoner s Dilemma from game
theory, which can be traced through the rest of the book. It deals with how people are led by self
interest or cooperation, how reciprocal humans and animals are because eventually we gain more
from cooperation, despite the temptation to cheat (MarkГіczy Goldberg, 1997). This chapter is
followed by the extensions and conditions that are necessary to get reciprocal altruism, which is
uniquely mastered by humans. The next two chapters

Vocabulary Acquisition Through Audio-Video Aids
Vocabulary Acquisition through Audio Video Aids
Abstract
With the advancement in computerized technology, there are a great number of advantages using
computers and multimedia for second language instruction. Vocabulary plays an important part in
second language acquisition and academic achievement. The role that vocabulary knowledge plays
in second and foreign language acquisition has long been neglected. However, vocabulary is
currently receiving increased emphasis in the language teaching curriculum. This paper will focus

Therefore, many universities provide the non English major college students with language labs
and multimedia facilities. The use of communicative strategies seems to suggest that the way of
learning vocabulary does not merely involve memorizing and monotonous practicing, but various
other activities to enhance understanding and usage. Nowadays, CALL and CALT have developed
from traditional ones to web based ones. There are several new features frequently used in CALL
and CALT, including hypertext, hypermedia and multimedia. Hypertext refers to links among
textual items, often indicated by key words set in underlined blue type. Hypermedia refers to
similar links as those used in hypertext, but instead of simply linking text to text, hypermedia
involves linking various media such as sound, images, animation and/or video. Multimedia refers to
many of the same ideas associated with hypermedia, but hypermedia might only use of two types of
media (e.g. text+sound or text+photographs). Multimedia tends to features several media types

Summary Of Song Of A Citizen
The purpose of this assignment was to reflect on the poem Song of a Citizen using critical analysis
to understand the complete meaning of what Milosz has written within the text. The poem Song of
a Citizen is an illuminating reflection on the abominable conditions of the Jewish people and the
suffering they have endured wrapped into a piece on how a prisoner is separated from the natural
world, connected by Milosz s incredible writing ability.
The poem Song of a Citizen is an open book that allows the reader a deep view into the inner
character of its speaker. Firstly, we see many of the speaker s views reflected in the poem s
numerous verses. For example, in verse 9, he says that it is better to be a live dog than a dead lion ,
which shows how he has felt and acted in this perilous situation. This could even be taken so far
as to say that, because of the horrors he faced during the war, the speaker feels that it is better to
be living than even to die a courageous death. Additionally, another revealing verse was from 20
25, which symbolized his continuing relationship with the world. He mentions a copper leaved
garden , which can be seen as a parallel to fall or winter trees, as well as a heart of metal , which
could describe the heart of manufacturing combined with nature. This shows the speaker s character
as we see how he connects nature to freedom and beauty, running a parallel to countless prisoners
and captives(including the Jews) who were separated from nature

Community Policing And The Neighborhood Watch Program
One advantage of community policing is forming neighborhood watch programs which benefit
both police and citizens. Citizens and police work together to discourage criminal behavior and
find solutions to crime (Take Action, n.d.). Neighborhood watch entails educating members on
security and suspicious behaviors such as a person screaming for help, strange noises, a person
looking in cars widows, strangers in cars talking to children and property being taken out of a house
when the resident is not home. Neighborhood watchmembers are not vigilantes as they help police
by looking out for suspicious occurrences and then report it to law enforcement (Neighborhood
Watch, 2015). In my community Neighborhood Watch keeps drug dealers from selling drugs in
the lobby s and building grounds. The sale and use of drugs had previously accumulated a large
amount of violence which has been largely reduced or eliminated by community policing and the
Neighborhood Watch program. Another advantage of community policing is social media as it
gives police and citizens a way to send and receive information to one another with a much
broader range than neighborhood watch; which is only limited to a specific community. When
police are looking for an offender he or she can reach a nationwide audience by tweeting and/or
posting it on his or her social media page so that followers can repost the offender s information
and/or give any helpful information to police to apprehend the offender

Japanese Canadian Internment During The Beginning Of Wwii
Japanese Canadian Internment WWII
During the beginning of WWII, there were a lot of Japanese Canadians living in Canada, all of
which were either second generation Canadians, Japanese people who had taken Canadian
citizenship or those who were still Japanese nationals. These Japanese Canadians mainly inhabited
British Columbia and smaller villages in the coastal regions of the west coast. Prior to their
internment, Japanese Canadians suffered great prejudice, discrimination and racism. White people
were fearful that they would lose their dominance due to competition in industries such as fishing,
farming, markets and even in education. The Canadian Government created laws stating that
Japanese Canadians were not allowed to vote, they also had fishing and farming permits denied,
which were supposed to motivate them to move back to Japan. On top of that, White people also
feared that Japan would attempt to expand into Canada and take it s natural resources due to Japan s
expansionist policies that existed at the time. On December 7th, 1941, Japanese Air Forces
attacked the US forces at Pearl Harbor, pulling the US into the second world war. On the same
day, 50,000 Japanese troops attacked Hong Kong, which was a British Colony at the time. After
events the events at Pearl Harbour, anyone living in Canada of Japanese immigration or descent
would be considered an enemy alien . Around this time, Japan also launched attacks on the

Significant Difference Between The Spanish And New England...
In 1492, Columbus came to the New World along with fifty other Spanish men. Those men spread
Catholicism throughout the native population, as well as settling to form their own colonies. Year
later, settlers from New England began colonizing in the New World spreading beliefs of
Puritanism as well as forming an economy apart from the Old World. The role of religion and
economy were significantly different during the two different colonizations periods, while the
treatment of the native population was significantly similar.
The role of religion between the Spanish and New England colonies were significantly different due
to the conquistadors and salvation mentality in the Spanish, and the strong Puritan beliefs in the
New England colonists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Spanish colonies the encomienda system setup slavery in the form of labor to the natives. In
the Spanish colonies, the natives were set under the encomienda system where the natives were
used as slaves for their protection, in return for their labor. The natives were also forced to undergo
a conversion in religion under this system. The Spanish soldiers believed natives were only fit to be
tortured and killed. If the natives did not convert, the Spanish would torture and kill natives. Similar
to the Spanish colonies encomienda system, the New England colonies had indentured servitude.
During the early settlements colonists were mostly friendly with the natives. Soon, in the colonies
of Virginia and Maryland, chattel slavery and indentured servitude amongst the natives were vast.
The English believed the natives were property and compared to animals. In indentured servitude
the natives were granted freedom by the English in return for their work, just how to the Spanish
granted protection for their labor. For instance, slaves were the main work force when it came to
tobacco and sugar in the northern New England colonies. Due to the longevity of the contract the
natives were never granted their headrights. On the other hand, in the colony of Pennsylvania the

Macbeth Peripeteia Essay
Aristotle discusses the distinction between great Aristotelian tragedies and inferior works by
informing his audience that every great Aristotelian tragedy includes the effectual and successful
use of peripeteia and anagnorisis to create a greater cathartic effect, which Aristotle outlines in
Poetics. Aristotle believes that these two concepts are essentials in highly respected works of tragedy
because they contribute to the plot and increase the cathartic effect that is created throughout the
tragedy. Aristotle believed that the concepts of peripeteia and anagnorisis help Shakespeare appeal
to the reader s sense of pathos and inspire the audience to feel pity and fear for Shakespeare s
character, Macbeth, in Macbeth. Now, regarded as a great... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We see that Macbeth has realized that the witches have deceived him into believing a false
prophecy and that he has allowed his endless ambition for power to lead him astray from the
loyal, humble and happy life he had originally envisioned when he began to pursue King Duncan

Macbeth s reality is no longer clouded by blind ignorance his wife has, supposedly, committed
suicide, is a well regarded and hated usurper whose discovery [...] will carry with it either pity or
fear (Aristotle 46) in this case, being both because we, as the readers, begin to pity Macbeth for
his fall from good fortune, but fear because human beings are not immune to ignorance, temptation
or from trying to raise our station in life. The audience witnesses Macbeth s downfall as Macbeth
realizes that his downfall was inevitable, inspiring pity for Macbeth, once again, because his hubris
and ignorance hadn t allowed him to foresee his downfall until he met his impending demise at the
hands of Madcuff during Act 5, Scene 8. Here, Macbeth s recognition occurs through his memories:
memories of having killed King Duncan, Banquo, the prophecy of the three witches and how he
recognizes the witch s tricks:

Argumentative Essay-Harambe Is Wrong
The Killing of Harambe was NOT Ok Do you think that shooting a harmless animal is okay? On
May 28, 2016 a three year old boy fell into Harambe, a 420 pound Silverback gorilla s, den. Zoo
officials quickly decided to shoot Harambe to save the little boy, although he was in no danger. I
think Harambe should not have gotten killed because according to experts he was not
aggressive towards people, and also he was used to humans. Also I think that the place he lived
should have been fully enclosed. Lastly, instead of shooting the gorilla, I think they should have
used a tranquilizer gun. The first reason why I think Harambe shouldn t have been killed is
because he was used to the presence of humans. He was born in and raised in captivity, and he was
with a zookeeper at least once a day. This shows that he wouldn t have harmed the little boy.... Show

the exhibit would have been fully inclosed, the little boy wouldn t have been able to get in, and

accountable. This shows that if there was more safety that it would have never happened. Some
people say that Harambe should have been killed instantly because a human s life is more important
that an animal s. I agree with them that human lives are more important than animals, but I don t
think Harambe should have been killed. I think that the zoo should have tranquilized

Why Did Paul Wrote The Book Of Colossians
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Colossians to the church in Colossae. It was thought that Paul
completed this epistle from Rome while he was arrested, between A.D. 60 and 62, unable to travel
to Colossae to help them.1 Paul wrote Colossians primarily to respond to a particular problem. The
main concerns involved in Paul s epistlewere the misconstrued doctrine of Christ, and the
misinterpretation of how this doctrine affected and influenced being a follower of Christ.
During the time of this letter, false teachers infiltrated the city of Colossae, spreading doctrine that
provided improper interpretation and emphasis regarding the work of Christ.2 They were changing,
diminishing, and complicating the doctrine of Christ. Paul s efforts

Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the film Magic Mike that was released back in 2012, is
hilariously entertaining and the eye candy isn t bad either. Channing Tatum is back and hotter
than ever in his return to the stage for a stripper reunion in Myrtle Beach, SC. And while, I am
never a big fan of sequels I have to say that at least this one, simply creates its own story with
very few references to the first movie, which is nice, especially for those who never saw Magic
Mike the original. It seems, at least to me, that this movie works hard to break some of the
stereotypical thoughts about strippers, moreover, it makes you realize that these are not just a
bunch of hot bodied individuals but actual men in pursuit of real life. The movie

this world. The narrator follows an ad looking for someone who wants to save the world and

This gorilla can communicate telepathically and becomes the narrator s teacher. In the story
people are grouped into two categories: the takers and the leavers. The takers are civilized people,
whereas the leavers are civilizations such as the Native Americans who live with the earth. The main

changed by a vote. There needs to have a law like the law of aerodynamics or the law of gravity
that is proven to always be true. Humans need a law telling them the one right way to live.
Ishmael points out that all other creatures follow this law, and to determine what the law is, the
narrator must look for what other creatures do that human do not and visa versa. The narrator
comes back having come up with four laws, and Ishmael accepts the first three. A species should
never eliminate their competitors; it is okay to kill in self defense, but not for the sake of killing.
A species must not systematically destroy a competitor s food source to make more room for
themselves. A species may not deny another species access to food, unless that food is needed for
survival. Ishmael reduces these three laws into one law that states ВЁyou may compete but you
may not wage warВЁ (131). Humans have to follow the same laws of nature that every other animal

From farm villages to gigantic cities the Chinese all need a place to live. Like the other countries in this paper China is mostly rural countryside where farmers grow everything from rice to wheat. With the exception of it s mountains and hills, the overwhelming majority of Chinese settlements are rural compact villages. The formation of these villages are caused by it water source, population and in earlier years, defense. Live in these villages are very simple and have not changed for centuries. As factories and mining centers where developed, cities and towns were built around them. People who live in cities usually live in large apartment buildings. There is good heath care, schools, but they are generally very crowded. Large roadways and railroad systems also helped to spread urbanization throughout the country. In China, because of communism, there are no classes. People are either poor or wealthy, there is not much of a median. Government officials live in the bigger cities in large estates. Today, China is on the cutting edge of architecture. Huge skyscrapers have been built and other nations have been taking in what the Chinese have built. In earlier years China was the most technologically advanced civilization in the world. Reminders of this era still stand today, like the great wall and the emperors palace. Also, we can see reminders of this period in our own country for example, the Chinese theater in Hollywood. Now China s style in decoration is a popular trend it s art and luxurious nature. In conclusion, housing and the way people live, are very similar yet different between the three countries China, India, and Africa. I believe the best way to learn about it is to actually go there which I hope to do someday. Housing in India India has the second highest population in the world, only surpassed by China. • 4. Gone Girl By David Fincher In the way a finger leaves a print specific to the touch of its owner, auteurs stylize elements of their works so that their creation is definitive enough to be traced back to its creator. In order to identify these definitive components, an auteur must establish common thematic and formal elements that their texts typically contain. In David Finchers film Gone Girl (2014), Amy Dunne suddenly vanishes, seemingly from violent kidnapping, leaving her husband, Nick Dunne, in a media frenzy over his suspected involvement in her disappearance. The film utilizes some of his most common thematic elements: paternal or maternal abandonment during childhood and its influence on adulthood, the poststructuralist critique of social systems, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amy s mother and father abandoned their hopes of having a daughter that was as successful as they desired by creating an improved version of Amy in their lucrative children s series, Amazing Amy. Entrenched in the comparison of her fictitious counterpart, Amy lives her life fooling those around her to believe she is an enhanced version of herself while silently dwelling on her discovery of Nick s infidelity. The individuals that Nick and Amy become because of these childhood influences cause them to comply with another prevalent thematic element: Fincher s men act, often recklessly, but his women know (Orgeron et al. 2011). In this example, Nick s infidelity is his reckless behavior, while Amy s knowing is her false appearance of ignorance, but as Orgeron states, ...behind this static gaze lies a more complete, more complex knowledge of the American family, its dissolution, its decay. This idea of reckless men and knowing women is also an important thematic element in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Zodiac (2007), and Seven (1995). Frequently presented in Fincher s films is a poststructuralist critique of one or more social systems (present in Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Zodiac). In Gone Girl, the two systems under criticism are the judicial system and tv news broadcasting. Although initially remaining compliant with the policemen that are investigating his wife s ... Internal Control Project Paper Introduction of Dentistar and the problem Dentistar, Inc. was formed in 1985 to provide dental and orthodontic services to subscribers of their prepaid dental plans. This report examines the western region s office, located in Los Angeles, and its issuance of excessive manual checks that resulted in multiple bank overdrafts. Results indicate that only minimal efforts have been made for internal control measures in this office and companywide, and that weaknesses have allowed the Finance Coordinator to embezzle funds. If any unauthorized transactions took place, the evidence is gone when the account is deleted. Errors in segregation of duties are prevalent as well. The current tasks for the Finance Coordinator position leave Dentistar open to internal control nightmares. This position is given responsibility to consolidate information and calculate amounts for manual disbursements, prepare checks, maintain regional accounting files, collect past due accounts receivable, organize financial data for audit, and assist with human resources. Beyond that he is indirectly, through severe weaknesses in internal control, given the ability to authorize refunds, issue payments for operating expenditures and affect the general ledger. These duties and implied responsibilities effectively give him custody, authority, recording, and review powers, which is a gross disregard for internal control. Moreover, all personnel can create operating expenditures instead of one or a small number of people, so auditors aren t able to trace expenses to individuals. Adequate speed of updating information and open lines of communication are important for all companies. However, slow reactions are causing control deficiencies. • 7. Critically assess the view that a concept of miracles is... Critically assess the view that a concept of miracles is inconsistent with a belief in a benevolent God. (35 marks) Before one is able to debate the ideas of inconsistency surrounding miracles, we must define and clarify what a miracle actually is. One definition is an event caused by God, this view is traditionally supported by Christians and philosophers such as Aquinas. A second definition is a violation of the laws of nature which is most commonly associated with David Hume. These two definitions usually underlie the way in which people approach the question of God acting in the world, thus impacting ones interpretation of miracles showing a benevolent God. Benevolence is used to describe God being a good and loving God. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this could have been down to a mis diagnoses which distorted the idea of a miracle occurring. Overall, the inconsistencies with miracles present a biased God. Why would a benevolent God only perform to people who visit Lourdes and not non believers ? Overall this shows God to not be benevolent because the miracles he performs are inconsistent and biased. Keith Ward stated that God is purposely inconsistent with miracles, and does not act within the world often so he does not undermine our free will, thus presenting a transcendent God. In his book Divine Action he stated that if God helps person X rather than person Y , it may be because person X has a more potentially important role in the working out of the divine purpose then person Y . Therefore God s inconsistency is deliberate and his actions are beyond our human understanding. This supports the concept of God being benevolent as he performs miracles for the greater good of the people, he can t save everyone, as this would undermine the significance of miracles, however he does intervene when it will make a large impact in the bigger picture. However, Hawkins stated that a good theory is one that is straight forward. Ward presents his argument based on a lot of assumptions. As Gods actions and purpose in the world is beyond our understanding, it is impossible for us to understand the significance and purpose of miracles. It is impossible for us to know what God s plan is. Who are we to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Pablo Picasso s Cubism And Henri Matisse Fauvism Art before the 20th century consisted of new styles and three dimensional spectrums to create the most realistic painting possible. Portraits and landscapes were presented as sort of photographs with a paint brush. Everything required specific fundamentals and anything different would be rejected and labeled degenerate. During this time, foundations were put to the test and it was completely disordered by revolutionary ideas and styles. This art influenced a vast majority of modern day art. Pablo Picassos cubismand Henri Matisse fauvism helped shape this era not only in style of painting, but a revolution against conformity of a social artistic structure. Cubism was a style of painting imagined, created, and performed by Pablo Picasso. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gives it a much more vivid mood (Southgate, 1131). Fauvism is an ideological style of painting that Henri Matisse is famously known for. Fauvism consists of very strong colors that interfere with the realism portrayed by the painting. The goal of this is to not only paint on a canvas, but create a story and all sorts of moods to the painting thanks to the beautiful use of oddly realistic colors. This tactic also influenced some of Picasso s work, including the Les Demoiselles d Avignon. These painting styles created a whole new era in traditional painting that revolutionized art itself. Without these ideas, modern art will not be anywhere close to what it has developed into. The influence these artists and their ideas took on 20th century art, changed art and how we will see it forever. Henri Matisse s Fauvism contributed to this revolutionary. Henri Matisse was born on December 31, 1869 and died on November 3, 1954. He was a French artist mostly recognized by his use of color and diversity of spectrums in his art. Very much like Pablo Picasso, he was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but he was known primarily as a painter. He developed the idea of favism art in 20th century art. A particular painting that Henri Matisse is known for is his Joy of Life (Le Bonheur de Vivre) (1905 06). During Henri s Fauvism era, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Remove all of Miss Emily s utterances from the context of the story. Write them down as you would a list. What three character traits can be inferred from her speeches? In three well developed paragraphs, discuss three character traits revealed by Miss Emily s dialogue alone. Length: 350 500 words. Miss Emily is an old style southern belle ensnared in a culture bent on forcing her to stay in her task. She adheres to the old ways even as she struggles to break free. When she is not even 40, she is on a way that entails dying alone in an apparently ghostly house. The story, A Rose for Emily, opens to the viewing of Miss Emily s death. The tale summons up the Emily s through flashbacks of several points, much like every persons mind in life when recalling (Faulkner, pg 56). The speaker talks about how much of a trouble Miss Emily was to the township as a result of her old fashion ways. All through the story, we learn about Miss Emily s partner standings and isolation. Her character is a very old fashion woman who still believed in the confederate period and was follower to those policies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Helen might be considered as weak, or as reluctant to take a stand in opposition to her father in life. This opinion is kind of like blaming the victim however. The Acceptance of Homosexuality in South Africa Essay The Acceptance of Homosexuality in South Africa For hundreds of years South Africa has endured a constant power struggle, oppression under the apartheid government, the AIDS epidemic and homophobia. Internationally there are currently four countries that permit same sex marriages, which include the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Canada. Even though homosexuality remains largely taboo in South Africa, the country is taking steps towards overall equality and improved human rights allowing such unions to take place where this lifestyle was once forbidden. For an African coming out is a continual process because it involves additional cultural and social factors that play a major role. The process is more difficult because the African family structure in much more connected than that in the United States. If something affects one person in a family it affects everyone. Coming out deals with homophobic churches, strong family foundations and ties that emphasize heterosexuality, and the overall negative connotation associated with the GLBT community. In the African community your stance on homosexuality is influenced by the church, you either do not talk about it or you condemn it completely. • 12. Biodiesel And Its Effects On Our Environment Biodiesel is a fuel similar to diesel derived from a plant source, like corn, used vegetable oil, or even algae. This biofuel is created from renewable resources to replace the low source of fossil fuels that is unfortunately nonrenewable. Because of this situation society was basically coerced into finding a substitute. While the price is getting higher due to recent events between the United States (U.S. )and Third World Countries. Due to these situations society had to come up with a cheaper, renewable source of fuel. Biodieselis the key to releasing the chains of restraint that have been placed upon citizens by those third world countries. Society can take that crop, oil, or pond scum to make a biodiesel we can save our environment, and economy. As said before, it is the key to the public s restraint, as well as our future and fresh air. Biodiesel will also help with the noise pollution because we will be using less of the oil well boom to get the crude oil. Another bonus would be there would be less fracking which means less harmful chemical and natural gas getting into people s water supply. Meaning there will be less flammable water coming out of a household faucet. Because when they frack using water with a thickening agent of some kind to help create pressure. that pressure is used to crack the shale rock that is holding the natural gas. Over the years, there has not been a demand for everyone to pay attention to politics because people always have their own opinion anyways. Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don t was an article written by Hans Noel. His main objective to writing this was to inform readers of the reasons why politicsis something that is important to understand. Many journalists and bloggers became more aware of politics and want to know more about what political scientists actually know. This article also wants to inform many people that political scienceis something that you can study over a period of time, which is the real reason to pay attention to elections. Hans Noel came up with 10 different things that political scientists know but American citizens do not. Main Topic As I was reading Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don t, there was a particular finding of Noels that is relevant to today s election. I think the first topic, which was called It s The Fundamentals, Stupid, was the most interesting because it points out the obvious things that happen when politicians and their team try to come up with different campaigns, slogans and other stuff that will catch citizens off guard. However, after last Thursday, life as a Syracuse fan was decisively different. The Orange have dropped their last two games to unranked Wisconsin and Georgetown; and despite a late comeback against the Hoyas, Cuse did not look good in almost any respect during either game. Going forward, there are three clear problems and the team now led by assistant coach and head coach designate, Mike Hopkins, due to Boeheim s nine game suspension must focus on to break back into the top 25 and pose a threat in the ACC. 1. Close outs While the first two issues are blatant, this is slightly less obvious, but right now Syracuse is doing a poor job of closing out on opposing players on the three point line as other teams zip the ball around the arc to find the holes in Syracuse s 2 3 zone. Like most of Boeheim s teams, this team is long and athletic, but is currently trusting their skills a little too much. When approaching potential shooters, Orange players are charging out, leading too easy drive bys or passes into the lane and the vulnerable spots in the 2 3. And even when the other team isn t moving the ball that fast, Syracuse is jumping at the slightest fakes instead of staying grounded in good defensive stances. Those are the three most apparent problems with this year s Orange team. With a game against Colgate tonight, one would hope, and reasonably expect, that the Orange will be able to get back on track, at least for now. As art often imitates life, it is not surprising that characters in Woolf s works also struggle with mental illness. One of her novels, Mrs. Dalloway, recounts a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high society woman living in London, and those who run in her circle. As the novel progresses the reader sees one of the characters, Septimus, struggle with post traumatic stress disorder brought on by serving in war. At the end of the story, he commits suicide. While there is no explicit articulation of any other character suffering from mental illness in the novel, Septimus is not alone. Through her thoughts and actions, we can deduce that Clarissa also endures mental and emotional suffering. Though Clarissa does not actually attempt to end her life in the novel, her mental and emotional suffering lead her to exhibit suicidal tendencies. To prove this, I will examine Clarissa s thoughts and actions from a psychological perspective. Elsschot took advantage of the situation and was not only able to tell his story more effectively, but the passage also shows that he was still aware of the time he lived in. Exactly the same goes for Shaw s Pygmalion, where Mrs. Pearce tells Higgins is, tempting the girl . Shaw also showed biblical interest, not only in the plot itself, but in real life also. The Origins Of Virtue By The Zoologist Matt Ridley The zoologist Matt Ridley explores the question of why human beings are so cooperative, even though we are built of selfish genes in his book: The Origins of Virtue. The book lines up a large selection of examples of cooperation, utilizing different scientific approaches such as economy, sociology, evolutionary biology, anthropology (Rinaldo, 1997). It argues that in some human relationships natural selectionpromotes virtue and trust, but at the same time humans are egoistic and motivated by self interest (Leigh, 2000). The book begins with the description of the genetic foundations of human nature and argues that cooperation is grounded in evolutionary theory (Dugatkin, 1998) and describes cooperation and selfishness utilizing the examples of ants, corals, bees, mother and embryo relationship. Next, the division of labour is examined using the notion of Adam Smith about specialization which is essential to trade and elevates the society to be more than just the sum of its parts. Chapter 3 is devoted to the Prisoner s Dilemma from game theory, which can be traced through the rest of the book. It deals with how people are led by self interest or cooperation, how reciprocal humans and animals are because eventually we gain more from cooperation, despite the temptation to cheat (MarkГіczy Goldberg, 1997). Summary Of Song Of A Citizen The purpose of this assignment was to reflect on the poem Song of a Citizen using critical analysis to understand the complete meaning of what Milosz has written within the text. The poem Song of a Citizen is an illuminating reflection on the abominable conditions of the Jewish people and the suffering they have endured wrapped into a piece on how a prisoner is separated from the natural world, connected by Milosz s incredible writing ability. The poem Song of a Citizen is an open book that allows the reader a deep view into the inner character of its speaker. Firstly, we see many of the speaker s views reflected in the poem s numerous verses. For example, in verse 9, he says that it is better to be a live dog than a dead lion , which shows how he has felt and acted in this perilous situation. This could even be taken so far as to say that, because of the horrors he faced during the war, the speaker feels that it is better to be living than even to die a courageous death. Additionally, another revealing verse was from 20 25, which symbolized his continuing relationship with the world. He mentions a copper leaved garden , which can be seen as a parallel to fall or winter trees, as well as a heart of metal , which could describe the heart of manufacturing combined with nature. Citizens and police work together to discourage criminal behavior and find solutions to crime (Take Action, n.d.). Neighborhood watch entails educating members on security and suspicious behaviors such as a person screaming for help, strange noises, a person looking in cars widows, strangers in cars talking to children and property being taken out of a house when the resident is not home. Neighborhood watchmembers are not vigilantes as they help police by looking out for suspicious occurrences and then report it to law enforcement (Neighborhood Watch, 2015). In my community Neighborhood Watch keeps drug dealers from selling drugs in the lobby s and building grounds. The sale and use of drugs had previously accumulated a large amount of violence which has been largely reduced or eliminated by community policing and the Neighborhood Watch program. Another advantage of community policing is social media as it gives police and citizens a way to send and receive information to one another with a much broader range than neighborhood watch; which is only limited to a specific community.
