Cultural Diversity and Louie
Introduction
1) Does Louie have a problem, or are the people who made the negative comments about Louie just
being too sensitive?
According to the article, the manager named Louie does have problem. The people who made the
negative comments are not being too sensitive since the comments about him are true although he may
not realize that. Louie has discrimination problem against female (para.3 and 8), homosexual (para. 4),
older people (para. 5) and other races of people were judged by him with his own perception which
might be wrong. (para. 7)
As we saw from study case, Louie insulted a female customer to discuss with her husband in order to

There are some improvements that Louie can make in order for him to be a more efficient manager in
a diverse workplace.
First of all, Louie can be more open minded and down to the earth in today s modern world. Louie can
learn to value the differences of other people and respect their opinions. Louie had to respect
customers by accepting and adopting their value and believes. Louie should be humble and ask for
other people ideas or opinions when making decision due to the differences of ideas that shared among
each others will help Louie to learn others culture. At the same time, listening to others ideas and
experiences is a way to understand other from different situations and different perspectives.

Representation of Indigenous Cultures in the Rabbits and...
Representation of Indigenous Cultures Since the European settlement of Australia, the Indigenous
people have been represented in a myriad of ways. The Rabbits (1998), an allegorical picture book by
John Marsden (writer) and Shaun Tan (illustrator) and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), a film directed by
Phillip Noyce, are just two examples of this. Techniques such as music, changing camera angles and
symbolism are utilised in Rabbit Proof Fence to represent the Aboriginal people as strong willed and
spiritual and in The Rabbits, exaggeration, different colour themes and perspective are used to portray
the Aborigines as technologically inferior and overwhelmed against the Europeans. In both texts, the
Indigenous people are represented as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the girls do collapse onto the ground, Molly sees an eagle soaring in the sky above them. This
eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and safety in
Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the Aboriginals
are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this scene, the camera
shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the desert. This constant
transition conveys the relationship between the girls (protected by the eagle) and the elders praying in
an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can see how the Indigenous
people have a special bond with their land through their cultural religion, which, in return, assists them
when it is needed. Powerlessness of the Numbats (Aboriginals) against the Rabbits (Europeans) in The
Rabbits is shown through the use of words within the mise en scene. Within this picture book,
Marsden contributes to the meaning of the story to the readers through very short, but powerful
sentences such as: Sometimes we had fights/But there were too many rabbits/We lost the fights. The
way these sentences are structured so that it places emphasise the appropriate scenario that is
occurring in each panel. With Shaun Tan, he conveys the powerless nature of the Indigenous by

Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner
Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is witnessing a
mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of uncaring citizens,
who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them. While running, the narrator
witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it, it appears he does not care about
other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator notices that a car came off the road,
bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a car come off the road onto the grass in the
park where he is running. Since the narrator is not stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and
selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb.
More or less bang on the grass. The father gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just
witnessed a child being kidnapped, although she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the
kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s
opinion. He seems to feel the kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t
know who was. Why should he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him
emotionally and physically. This is a community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper
the entire area becomes concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s
ideal situation even though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his
neighbor and hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child.
(50)When asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother,
the child, and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely
projecting the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main
character disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal
situation for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means
he would rather

Advantage And Disadvantage Of E-Commerce
After I have gone through this article paper, my opinion would be, e commerce is becoming a major
factor in the development of business whether it is a global or a local business. This is happening
because the selection of data innovation is on the expanding pattern and hence prompts various
changes in business exercises. In any making decision situation, it has never been easy and that is the
situation that the SMEs nowadays are facing in their business. Before I go further with the advantages
of having e commerce in SMEs, I will first start with the disadvantages. First and foremost is the
organizational readiness. According to Chong (2009), the hierarchical preparation measures whether
the associations traits are sufficiently adequate in receiving the e commerce. They proposed that top
administration backing is the most critical component to figure out if the organization is prepared to
receive the e commerce. Based on above citation, I can say that it is all depending on the level of
understanding of someone in the SMEs in the usage of Internet at the workplace. In other words, this
kind of people can be called as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In Pope John...
Pope John Paul II found it important enough to talk about the relationship between faith and reason in
his encyclical Fides et Ratio. An encyclical is a letter that is sent to all of the bishops of the Roman
Catholic Church and addresses a problem, or important topic that the pope believes needs to be
discussed. In Fides et Ratio, Pope John Paul II really emphasizes the importance of the relationship
between faith and reason and how it has to do with the trust and faith put in God. This encyclical
written in 1998 was meant for all of the members of the Catholic Church to understand and begin
thinking about the big questions that define their faith, as well as to once again be able to reason with
their faith. If there was never a questioning of faith, there would be no reason for the followers of the
Catholic Church to continue to follow a man that we accept as our Lord. Faith and reason go hand in
hand just like identity and relevance. Without one, you cannot have the other and still achieve full
meaning. It is possible to have only faith and just live a life based on faith alone. It is also possible to
only reason through everything. However, when dealing with religion, Pope John Paul II makes it a
point to show the followers if Christ that they need to have an equal balance of both faith and reason
in order to attempt to comprehend who Jesus Christ the Son of God was, who in fact God is, and have
the knowledge to grow and understand the Roman Catholic beliefs. According to

Themes In Purple Hibiscus
In American culture there are an abundance of actors, artists, and musicians that are popular even
though they do not carry out acceptable decisions. This relates to the book Purple Hibiscus by
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, were one of the themes is how fame does not dictate personal worth. The
book shows this through the conflict of Papa and his family, who he abuses constantly, the character
Papa Nnukwu, and the Missal symbol.
The conflict between Papa and his family showed fame did not dictate Papa s personal worth. In
Purple Hibiscus Papa is considered by the people around him to be a well respected individual, and is
praised by everyone to for his contributions to the community. It is presumed he would not be the type
of person to commit violent acts against his family. In the first part of the book Mama is pregnant
again after many miscarriages. After mass their whole family decides to visit Father Benedict like they
normally do. Since Mama is pregnant, she feels sick and might throw up, she would like to stay in the
car. She voices this to Papa who is upset by her decision to do so. She finally agrees to go in so she
doesn t make Papa upset. Later Papa is still upset by this and beats her, Mama is slung over his
shoulder like the jute sacks of rice his factory workers bought in bulk at the Seme Border, (Kambili
33). Him beating Mama is an obvious example of low personal worth, since committing violent acts
against family, or anyone, is not morally right. Another example

The Income Tax Credit ( Eitc ) Is A Better Policy For...
Yifan Gao
Econ 206
Dr. Schneider
March.24th, 2015
Policy brief 1
Personally, I believe that an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a better policy for
lifting households out of poverty than an increase in the current minimum wage.
The EITC, Earned Income Tax Credit, is a benefit for working people who have low to moderate
income. A tax credit means more money in your pocket. It reduces the amount of taxes you owe and
may also give you a refund ( EITC, Earned Income Tax Credit, Questions and Answers. ). In other
words, the purpose of the EITC is to lift households which are low income out of poverty, especially
for those families with children. The EITC is a combination of both reducing income tax and
subsidizing salaries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will support my opinion through the aspects of increasing households income, changes in the labor
market, and influences of the poverty rate.
Earned Income and adjusted gross income (AGI) must each be less than: Married filing jointly income
less than: Maximum credit
Households with no qualifying children $14,820 $20,330 $503
Households with one qualifying children $39,131 $44,651 $3,359
Households with two qualifying children $44,454 $49,974 $5,548
Households with three or more qualifying children $47,747 $53,267 $6,242
Investment income must be $3,400 or less for the year.
Figure 1: 2015 EITC Income Limits, Maximum Credit Amounts and Tax Law Updates
First of all, I want to address the increase in household income by comparing the increase in EITC
with the increase in minimum wage. Athreya, Reilly, and Simpson (2010) divided the EITC into three
phases: phase in, which is the period that the more workers earned, the more credit they receive;
plateau, which is the period that workers can only receive credits up to the maximum and phase out,
which is the period in which workers will stop receiving the credits. Therefore, the labor supply curve
will be viewed as:
Figure 2 Panel A
Figure 2 Panel B
From Figure 2 Panel A, I realized that for the same household, without the EITC, when wages
increase, the equilibrium points on the labor leisure model will shift to the right. This means that the
quantity of leisure

I had some places where I had to either do some changes within the teams or involve new people to
avoid some difficulties or incidents that could have led to fail the project or cause negative results. For
example, during a project which I was handling recently for developing a new product for a multi
national company Reckitt Benckiser as I work in a labels printing company, and due to the difficult
shape of bottles, we have started to face a problem to complete the project as the trials kept failing, so
I have noticed that the team handling this project did not have enough experience in similar situation,

Freedom Of Speech About New York City
From the time one sets foot in New York City everything feels different, the atmosphere, the people,

to be in order to conquer dreams. It is the epitome of the American dream and what America stands for
as a country. It is the place where one goes to make it big. It is a symbol of freedom, history, and
entertainment. While I was in New York I gained an insight into just how free and beautiful our
country really is. It truly changes a person and their appreciation for society. Americans often take
freedom for granted. In this country, we have the freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom
of the press, just to name a few. In some

Football fans and dreamers all over the United States universally favor Louisiana State University.
Many young people aspire to become an LSU Tiger. Some of them aim to become a Louisiana State
University football player, while others desire to become a member of the popular LSU cheerleading
squad. Claire Walpole, a varsity cheerleader at Weston High School, was able to fulfill a dream that
she had for an exceptionally long time. She had the chance to cheer with the Louisiana State
University cheerleading squad. It was an opportunity of a lifetime. Although it only lasted one day, she

This was an enormous opportunity for Claire and her squad. Once they entered the doors of the
football field, her nervousness subdued itself. Feelings of excitement overwhelmed her. All of her
other emotions went away. It was as if the thousands of people in the stands disappeared and I was the
only one in that field, Claire said; she could barely contain herself in her seat.
Once the music began, I was fortunate enough to hit every beat. It was amazing. My cheer coach was
extremely proud of my whole squad. I was proud of myself as well. As Claire stated this, her eyes
seemed to light up with joy.
After that moment was over, Claire decided right there and then at that moment that she would one
day attend Louisiana State University. Who knew that one day would change my life forever? One day
I could may become a Tiger myself and maybe an LSU cheerleader on top of that.
Although Claire was already passionate about being a cheerleader, that day her love for the sport

Epidemiology Of Obesity
Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide and its prevalence is increasing at an
alarming rate (Barness et al, 2007). For thousands of years obesity was rarely seen, it was not until the
20th century that it became common, some much so that in 1997, the World Health Organization
(WHO) formally recognized obesity as a global epidemic (Caballero, 2007).
Overweight and obesity now affects at least 1.7 billion people. With the largest proportion in
developing countries: In 2010, almost 2 billion people of the world s population are overweight (BMI
between 25 and 29.9 kg/m2) and more than half a billion are obese (BMI 30 kg/m2). Using standard

The increased prevalence of obesity among high income groups in nonindusrialized countries may
have changed as non indusrialized countries become more affluent and obesity becomes more
prevalent in individuals who have low socioeconomic status (Monteiro et al., 2004).
Egypt studied the prevelance of obesity and overweight among their populations and results were
annoying. Salem et al. (2002) found that the prevalence of obesity among Egyptian children was
14.7% and 15.08% for male and female respectively.
In United States of America (USA), the prevalence of obesity was 10% among children 2 to 5 years of
age and 15% among adolescents. When children at risk for obesity (overweight) were included, the
values increased to 20% and 30%, respectively. Therefore, 1 of every 4 patients examined by
pediatricians either is obese or is considered to be at high risk for developing this challenging health

House Hunters Research Paper
From the purpose of the show to the demographics to the advertising, House Hunters is successful all
around but when it reflects society what does it say? House Hunters is a strong reflection of society in
several ways, the first being our society today is okay with making purchases on debt. The mortgages
put up by those who decide to purchase these homes, especially in these episodes reflect the attitude of
today which is purchase now and pay it off later. By using credit to purchase something now and pay
for it later, we have created a debt society in which we live in today. The biggest example of a family

My First Day Of An American School
Topic: My first day in an American school
Specific Purpose: To tell a story about the my experience in the United States school system compare
to the Jamaican school system.
Thesis Statement: We should appreciate what we have before we lose it because the grass is not
always greener on the other side.
I.Introduction
a.After living in Jamaica for 15 years and 9 months, I went to live with my mother in Central Islip in
Long Island New York. It was sad to leave behind all my friends and my old school, but this would be
a fresh start to find new friends and to go to a new school.
b.I was very excited to start my new school after seeing how cool school seemed on TV. The no school
uniform, having lockers, walking out of class when the bell rung even is the teacher is still talking and
school buses. School seemed like a dreamland on TV compare to the strict school I was leaving.
I. Main point 1
a.my school was just a 6 minute walk for my house so I didn t get to experience the school bus ride.
My little sister who went to school in America all her life, helped me map out how to get to my first
three classes on a school map they gave me during registration.when I walked through the big glass
doors, my mood went from being excited to nervous. The main hallway was a big circle and you had
to walk in one direction during the period changes. I was overwhelmed by the 100s of kids in the
hallway. I was use to outdoor open space door back at my old school with

Apple vs Samsung
Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits between
Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics regarding the design of smartphones and tablet computers;
between them, the companies made more than half of smartphones sold worldwide as of July 2012.[1]
In the spring of 2011, Apple began litigating against Samsung in patent infringement suits, while
Apple and Motorola Mobility were already engaged in a patent war on several fronts.[2] Apple s

Samsung has also sued Apple, claiming the iPhone and iPad infringe on Samsung patents.
On Friday, August 31, 2012, The Tokyo District Court ruled that Samsung s Galaxy smartphones and
tablets did not violate an Apple patent on technology that synchronizes music and videos between
devices and servers.[21] The three judge panel in Japan also awarded legal costs to be reimbursed to
Samsung. Presiding Judge Tamotsu Shoji said: The defendant s products do not seem like they used
the same technology as the plaintiff s products so we turn down the complaints made by [Apple]. An
unnamed spokesperson for Samsung said: [We will] continue to offer highly innovative products to
consumers, and continue our contributions toward the mobile industry s development. [22]
Ronald A. Cass, a legal consultant and former vice chairman of the International Trade Commission,
commented: I wouldn t expect there to be a lot of judgments like this one. Quote regards to the verdict
from the American courts not the Japanese courts in reference to how patent disputes are heard by
juries.[21]

Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Essay
Silsbee enjoyed designing buildings that were inspired by the Victorian movement. Thus, his buildings
were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design. Wright enjoyed designing buildings that
were more progressive with low pitched roofs and an open floor plan. He described his own work as
gracefully picturesque compared to the other brutalities of his time. In 1888, Wright began working
for the Adler and Sullivan firm. The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings for the
inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and soon became an
apprentice in the firm. However, while working at this firm, he did not get along with the other
draftsmen. Sullivan knew of this, took care of Wright, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fallingwater is a house designed by Wright in 1935 that can be found South of Pittsburgh. This
innovative house was built over a waterfall. It was originally a house for businessman Edgar J.
Kaufmann and Liliane Kaufmann, but now it stands as a National Historic Landmark. While it only
took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between
Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and doubted
his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor had, Kaufmann
sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design. Once Wright
heard this, he grew offended and threatened to leave the project if his drawings weren t returned.
Kaufmann gave in to Wright s demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s report within
a stone wall of the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with supporting the West
terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West terrace because there was a
noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the cantilever. Unfortunately for
Kaufmann, Wright discovered this and secretly removed the top course of stones. After about a month,
Kaufmann told Wright what he had done. In return, Wright showed Kaufmann what he himself had
done and how for the past month the cantilever has held

Similarities And Differences Between The Giver Movie And...
There are many differences between the book and movie version of The Giver. The movie changed
many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more
interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the Giver.
Another difference is the relationship between Jonas and Fiona. The final difference is when Jonas
flees his community when he wasn t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This essay
will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver.
The way that Jonas receives the memories in the book is different from the way he receives the
memories in the movie. In the book, Jonas had to receive the Giver s memories by laying down on a
bed while the Giver rubbed his back to transfer the memories to Jonas, Jonas felt nothing unusual at
first. He only felt the light touch of the old man s hands on his back ( Pg 101). However, in the movie,
it was different. In the movie Jonas had to sit on a chair in front of the Giver. The Giver would hold
Jonas wrists to transfer the memories to him. If the movie had used the method from the book, then we
wouldn t be able to see Jonas facial expressions because he would be facing down on the bed. Jonas
relationship with the Giver is different from the book to the movie and so is his relationship with
Fiona.
Jonas and Fiona never really had a strong relationship in the book. However, they did have a

Once negotiated with management, this estimate becomes your budget. As the project evolves,
additional information is discovered and further estimates are produced. This is an extremely
important process and we cannot emphasize enough the need for this re‐estimation or re‐budgeting
process at each phase of the project. In any case, for the purpose of this article, we will call the revised
budget the actual budget. Another standard activity is to provide management with an expected cash
flow. From a financial perspective this is an important activity, but it also can be used as your cost
expectation.
As the project progresses, you monitor the actual spending which becomes your actual cost. This cost
divided by your actual budget is the % spent, which can be compared to the expectation to provide an
excellent guide to where you stand cost‐wise. However, with respect to progress, cost comparison
alone is limited. A trend of the cost spending is a useful tool. Actual cost monitoring has several
constraints. The major limitation is the availability of the data in real time. Indeed, most project
accounting systems have major delays, usually due to the billing/payment system. It might take more
than a month before an invoice gets into the accounting system. The best way to resolve this problem
is to use a parallel real‐time approximated accounting system.
Invoices are accounted for as spent as soon as the work has been performed. Another inadequacy with

Among all of them interest group named National organization for women which was found in 1966
would support my campaign. As this interest group is also working to bring the equality to the women.
This interest group main aim is to eliminate or pull out the discrimination and harassment in the
workplace, schools, the justice system and other parts of the society where all the time women are
being discrimination and excluded them. This interest group works for the welfare and upliftment of
the women in the society. whereas all my party platform during the campaign is also related to the
welfare of the women, rights of the people and the civil liberties of the people. 1 Party s main aim is to
deal with the secure abortion among women birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end
all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; 2 and promote
equality and justice in our society. So, this interest group can be supportive to my campaign.
An interest named Campaign for Working Families would oppose my campaign as this interest group
is dedicated to electing pro family, pro life and women should take care the family rather than the men
which is quite not supporting to my campaign. This group basically works for the men and family
rather than women which oppose my main aim to be equality for all gender.
The Slogan of my campaign is Everybody should get chance to show them.
For the better campaign we must need the better media to

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
Andrew Sink
Mr. McCain
Advanced English, period 6
22 September 2014
Raw Human Nature
In the novel Lord of The Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of young
English boys are forced to fend for themselves as well as each other in hope of rescue. In this novel
Golding makes several comments on the tendencies of man when in the absence of a social structure.
Throughout the book, Golding tells the reader about human nature. When humans completely give in
to human nature, chaos erupts. Through the use of the fire, the beast, and Piggy s glasses William
Golding shows how human nature slowly pulls away from civilization when there is no social
structure.
One way that Golding conveys his message about human nature is with the fire and its smoke. In a
sense, the fire is an indicator of the civilization level of the boys. Towards the beginning of the story,
Ralph works very hard at keeping up the fire. The other boys help him because they want to be
rescued as well. They want the fire to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning of the novel it s obvious that Piggy s glasses are important. They are a
symbol of power. Piggy s glasses hold within them the power of fire. Power is something craved by
most people on the island, especially Jack. This craving is due to the tendencies of human nature.
Ralph uses Piggy s specs so he can make his signal fires, but when Jack breaks away and forms his
own tribe. He steals Piggy s glasses so he can have fire for cooking his meat. The spectacles have the
power to save them all from the island, such as Ralph s signal fires, or destroy them all, such as Jack
creating a forest fire in an attempt to kill Ralph. Ralph tries to use the spectacles to get rescued and
Jack tries to use the spectacles to kill Ralph and gain power. The craving for power drives both sides,
which is one of the main tendencies of human nature that Golding talks

Middle School Curriculum Essay
Across the nation, urban school districts are trying to identify the most effective setting for sixth
graders: K 6, K 8 or 6 8 grade level configurations. The middle school configuration began in the
1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on the
assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social
adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the
whole child (Yecke, 2005).
The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle school is
an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. This is evidenced by the 3,700
middle school studies between the years of 1993 and 2001 as indicated by Hough, (2003). These
studies were noted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 2006, on the most recent international assessments conducted by the Program in International
Student Assessment (PISA), the United States ranked 21st of 30 countries in the Organization for
Economic cooperation and Development (OECD) in science, and 25th of 30 in mathematics a drop in
both raw scores and rankings from 3 years earlier (Darling Hammond, 2010, p. 9).
U.S. students fall furthest behind on PISA tasks that require complex problem solving (Darling
Hammond, 2010). With the increasing decline in achievement, educators continue to readdress the
best grade level of configurations and attempt to determine why there is a significant
underperformance of middle school students after their transition from elementary school. What are
the contributing factors that will help to explain the difference in test scores between sixth graders
who remain in elementary school compared to those who attend middle

Nickel And Dimed On By Barbara Ehrenreich
The article Nickel and Dimed On (Not) Getting By In America written by Barbara Ehrenreich, who
has a PHD in biology, informs the reader about the struggle a low wage worker in America has to go
through. Ehrenreich goes undercover and takes low wage jobs to experience how a person with
minimum wage of $6 $7/hour survives. During her experiment Ehrenreich only uses the money she
earns from her job to pay rent, buy groceries,do laundry, pay for phone, and car. Throughout the article
Ehrenreich s purpose is to make high class feel grateful for what they have but at the same time she
encourages them to rally support to change conditions for low wage workers. Ehrenreich uses
rhetorical techniques of syntactic repetition, pathos, ethos, and evidence to persuade middle and high
class Americans to realize the need to raise the minimum wage in order for low wage workers to live
comfortable lives.
One of the many rhetorical techniques Ehrenreich uses is syntactic repetition as a way of instilling
emotions in a readers in order to make them feel sorry for the conditions low wage workers endure
and then help in some capacity. In very first sentence of the article Ehrenreich lists; At the beginning
of June 1998 I leave behind everything that normally soothes the ego and sustain the body home,
career, companion, reputation, ATM card for a plunge into the low wage workforce (Ehrenreich 243).
In this quote Ehrenreich just lists facts of what she leaves behind but it makes a reader

Although I love organic chemistry, I love how inorganic uses very fundamental concepts like
molecular orbitals to study the function and characteristics of molecules. Dr. Kaner also has a lot of
passion for the subject, which makes the class very enjoyable because we see his enthusiasm and are
willing to learn.

I did start my college career with a bad GPA, I am taking the extra time to recover. But over the years
my GPA dramatically increase as well as my interest for my major. I will also be taking this time to
apply to graduate school. I am planning on applying to PhD programs in material science,
nanotechnology, or organic chemistry. For my PhD thesis I want to explore the applications of
different carbon based molecules for nanotechnology or material science. Depending on my
experience in the Dr. Hawker group, I will decide if I want to work with polymers or small molecules.

The Thing Around Your Neck
The women show courage and intelligence even though they are culturally suppressed. Discuss. The
Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie highlights the often challenging lives of
Nigerian women living in Africa, but also abroad in the United States. It is however, not the
difficulties which Adichie is ultimately focusing on, but the courage and intelligence of women who
are able to make small victories , overcoming various attempts of cultural oppression. Adichie s
characters are subject to cultural suppression in several of the short stories. This is most pronounced in
The Arrangers of Marriage where Chinaza is forced by her husband to assimilate to her new
surroundings by ridding herself of all signs of being Nigerian, ... Show more content on

This includes the courage shown by the unnamed narrator in Cell One to stand up and cause damage
to her parent s windshield so they could not go and visit Nnamabia for a day, a little victory to the less
favored sibling. Likewise, Ukamaka, in The Shivering is courageous enough to apologise to Chinedu
and repair their friendship, whilst in The Arrangers of Marriage Chinaza returns to her husband.
Despite his various attempts to strip her of her cultural identity and not know[ing] him she returns and
opens herself to climb[ing] up to love . Perhaps true courage is most evident in A Private Experience
where a Hausa Muslim and Igbo Christian hide together in a store while outside their respective ethnic
groups are engaged hacking down...with machetes, clubbing...with stones . To risk the possibility of
being seen together, alongside the friendship they develop is a truly courageous act. Adichie therefore
demonstrates that ultimately human kindness trumps any religious lines, whilst the women are capable
of actions that put themselves in harm s way. Furthermore, the characters are intelligent and
determined. In Jumping Monkey Hill Ujunwa is well educated and a capable writer, invited to a
prestigious writing workshop. She is also intelligent enough to question Edward s sexual advanced

The Success of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Essay
The Success of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Part 1 Karl Marks was not Russian and he died 34
years before the Russian revolution, he was a German who spent most his life in England. He worked
as a journalist but wrote books on history, religion, economics, society, and philosophy. Marx hated
the system of capitalism because he thought that it was capitalism that had produced the problems of
industry, poor living conditions and the social gap of the rich and poor. He thought that the system
destroyed people and made them greedy and that people only wanted something if it was worth
money. Karl Marx realised that there was not enough money to make everyone rich but he did thin k

His third and final solution was if people are working for the good of everyone else then there will be
no problems and everyone will trust each other. These are Karl Marx s views and how they could be
achieved. Vladimir Ilch Ulyanov, also known as Lenin which was a secret codename he had adapted
so he could not be caught by the government on plots to overthrow them, was brought up in a well
educated middle class home and he was the third out of six children. He left school first in his class
and looked to become a scholar. He looked set to become a well educated and mature young man at
the age of sixteen but things were soon to change. As a teenager he took two harsh blows which led
him on to become a revolutionist. The first was of his fathers death when he was threatened with early
retirement because of the government s fear of public school education and had soon died after. The
second was the death of his eldest brother; he had been hanged for conspiring with a revolutionary
terrorist group which had plotted the assassination of Emperor Alexander 3rd. this made Lenin feel
very bitter toward the government and he felt as if he could change the country for the better. Lenin
enrolled in Kazan University, but he was quickly expelled as a radical troublemaker and after being

The Views Of The Uyghur People Of Xinjiang
Project Summary
This project analyzes the views of the Uyghur people of XInjiang, China with regards to recent
Uyghur terrorist activities. It examines the role of economic and social integration of Uyghur people
into the greater China nation. It will focus on the perceived lack of control of the Uyghur people and
their marginalization by the Chinese government, This project proposes that terrorist tactics become
more present when no other form of expression is available to societies with less economic and social
mobility.

The late 19th and early 20th century saw massive Han Chinese migration into the Xinjiang province
following an attempted nationalist movement of the Uyghur people in creating an East Turkestan
nation. As of 2010, Han Chinese make up nearly 40% of the population, up from less than 10% in
1920 (Spencer, 305). Xinjiang s situation is often compared to that of Tibet, which has had it s own
nationalist movements, seen as seperatist movements by the Chinese government and has had varying
degrees of international support. Like in Tibet, the Uyghurs in Xinjiang have seen severe government
crackdowns on popular movements. Xinjiang has been a focal point of ethnic tension in China for the
past several decades. Much of the unrest has taken the form of terrorist attacks on Han Chinese
population centers or Chinese landmarks, such as the 2008 suicide bombing attempt on a China
Southern Airlines flight (Davis, 2008), and a series of knife attacks in railroad stations and markets
across Xinjiang and further south in Hebei province, which also has a sizable Uyghur population.
Much of this unrest has been attributed to the Global Jihadi Movement by the Chinese government. As
the Uyghur population is majority Muslim and reside in Central Asia, they are seen as susceptible to
radical Islam. The concept of terrorism has previously been linked to faith, ethnicity and nationalism
by anthropologists like Cynthia Mahmood, who in her book

Barry Bonds Use Of Anabolic Steroids In Major League Baseball
The Major League Baseball organization is one of many sport organizations that takes a strong stance
on athletes that use performance enhancing drugs. Mark McGwire played for the Cardinals in 1998.
He had an amazing career as he broke the homerun record with 70 homeruns. Through his
accomplishments, there was speculation that he took steroids. He was questioned about it in Federal
Court and at first, he denied it. Later on, he admitted using Andro, which is a form of anabolic
steroids. Another baseball player had a very similar story. Barry Bonds played for the San Francisco
Giants. He likewise had very notable achievements, such as beating McGuire for the homeroom
record and he passed Hank Aaron as the career all time home run hitter.

discrimination is still real in the schools but handled differently. Also the interviewers talk to, teachers,

really excited. This interviewer was not Ira Glass but Chana Joffe wa. She talked to Mieze about his
childhood and how the charter school that he went to helped him become a better person. Surprisingly
enough Mieze became a teacher, through his charter connections and is doing the same thing that his
teachers taught him and uses the same rules, zero tolerance, no excuses. (Is This Working). Through
some of the interview Mieze and Chana Joffe wa saw about 30 kids walking very quietly. They walk
down the hallway very quietly for discipline. This was very shocking because in a public school the
hallways and cafeteria are the loudest places to be on campus. They do this type of discipline so the
children will grow as a person and listen to directions and overall

Sweatshops In Developing Countries
Todays, when the citizenship is concentrated, sweatshop is becoming a striking issue of controversies.
Especially in developed countries, this problem is always boycotted, but on the other hand it is an
opportunity for people in underdeveloped countries to change their lives. Although sweatshop is
considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking environment, they are beneficial
to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working conditions. Firstly, women choose to
work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is their only source step out of unavailable
and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being
restricted to domestic chores and relying on their husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle
that they want to escape but do not know the right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not
only chance to create stable income, but also sense of their own independence. As the writer mentions
that with the small income from garment sweatshop, women in Bangladesh can manage their finances,
have their own choice in marriage and having children (Sachs, quoted in Garyfalakis, para5).
Moreover, they have chance to go to school and gain their special skills. For example, earning $1 to
$2 in Indonesia or Bangladesh sounds unbelievable, but it can help a woman feed her kids and restrict
diarrhea disease (Kristof and Wudunn, 2000). Women in these countries also admitted that even

  • 3. Representation of Indigenous Cultures in the Rabbits and... Representation of Indigenous Cultures Since the European settlement of Australia, the Indigenous people have been represented in a myriad of ways. The Rabbits (1998), an allegorical picture book by John Marsden (writer) and Shaun Tan (illustrator) and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), a film directed by Phillip Noyce, are just two examples of this. Techniques such as music, changing camera angles and symbolism are utilised in Rabbit Proof Fence to represent the Aboriginal people as strong willed and spiritual and in The Rabbits, exaggeration, different colour themes and perspective are used to portray the Aborigines as technologically inferior and overwhelmed against the Europeans. In both texts, the Indigenous people are represented as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the girls do collapse onto the ground, Molly sees an eagle soaring in the sky above them. This eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and safety in Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the Aboriginals are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this scene, the camera shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the desert. This constant transition conveys the relationship between the girls (protected by the eagle) and the elders praying in an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can see how the Indigenous people have a special bond with their land through their cultural religion, which, in return, assists them when it is needed. Powerlessness of the Numbats (Aboriginals) against the Rabbits (Europeans) in The Rabbits is shown through the use of words within the mise en scene. Within this picture book, Marsden contributes to the meaning of the story to the readers through very short, but powerful sentences such as: Sometimes we had fights/But there were too many rabbits/We lost the fights. The way these sentences are structured so that it places emphasise the appropriate scenario that is occurring in each panel. • 4. Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is witnessing a mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of uncaring citizens, who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them. While running, the narrator witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it, it appears he does not care about other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator notices that a car came off the road, bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a car come off the road onto the grass in the park where he is running. Since the narrator is not stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb. More or less bang on the grass. The father gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just witnessed a child being kidnapped, although she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s opinion. He seems to feel the kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t know who was. Why should he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him emotionally and physically. This is a community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper the entire area becomes concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s ideal situation even though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his neighbor and hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child. (50)When asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother, the child, and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely projecting the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main character disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal situation for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means he would rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Advantage And Disadvantage Of E-Commerce After I have gone through this article paper, my opinion would be, e commerce is becoming a major factor in the development of business whether it is a global or a local business. This is happening because the selection of data innovation is on the expanding pattern and hence prompts various changes in business exercises. In any making decision situation, it has never been easy and that is the situation that the SMEs nowadays are facing in their business. Before I go further with the advantages of having e commerce in SMEs, I will first start with the disadvantages. First and foremost is the organizational readiness. According to Chong (2009), the hierarchical preparation measures whether the associations traits are sufficiently adequate in receiving the e commerce. They proposed that top administration backing is the most critical component to figure out if the organization is prepared to receive the e commerce. • 7. The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In Pope John... Pope John Paul II found it important enough to talk about the relationship between faith and reason in his encyclical Fides et Ratio. An encyclical is a letter that is sent to all of the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church and addresses a problem, or important topic that the pope believes needs to be discussed. In Fides et Ratio, Pope John Paul II really emphasizes the importance of the relationship between faith and reason and how it has to do with the trust and faith put in God. This encyclical written in 1998 was meant for all of the members of the Catholic Church to understand and begin thinking about the big questions that define their faith, as well as to once again be able to reason with their faith. If there was never a questioning of faith, there would be no reason for the followers of the Catholic Church to continue to follow a man that we accept as our Lord. Faith and reason go hand in hand just like identity and relevance. Without one, you cannot have the other and still achieve full meaning. It is possible to have only faith and just live a life based on faith alone. It is also possible to only reason through everything. However, when dealing with religion, Pope John Paul II makes it a point to show the followers if Christ that they need to have an equal balance of both faith and reason in order to attempt to comprehend who Jesus Christ the Son of God was, who in fact God is, and have the knowledge to grow and understand the Roman Catholic beliefs. • 8. Themes In Purple Hibiscus In American culture there are an abundance of actors, artists, and musicians that are popular even though they do not carry out acceptable decisions. This relates to the book Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, were one of the themes is how fame does not dictate personal worth. The book shows this through the conflict of Papa and his family, who he abuses constantly, the character Papa Nnukwu, and the Missal symbol. The conflict between Papa and his family showed fame did not dictate Papa s personal worth. In Purple Hibiscus Papa is considered by the people around him to be a well respected individual, and is praised by everyone to for his contributions to the community. It is presumed he would not be the type of person to commit violent acts against his family. In the first part of the book Mama is pregnant again after many miscarriages. After mass their whole family decides to visit Father Benedict like they normally do. Since Mama is pregnant, she feels sick and might throw up, she would like to stay in the car. She voices this to Papa who is upset by her decision to do so. She finally agrees to go in so she doesn t make Papa upset. Later Papa is still upset by this and beats her, Mama is slung over his shoulder like the jute sacks of rice his factory workers bought in bulk at the Seme Border, (Kambili 33). • 9. The Income Tax Credit ( Eitc ) Is A Better Policy For... Yifan Gao Econ 206 Dr. Schneider March.24th, 2015 Policy brief 1 Personally, I believe that an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a better policy for lifting households out of poverty than an increase in the current minimum wage. The EITC, Earned Income Tax Credit, is a benefit for working people who have low to moderate income. A tax credit means more money in your pocket. It reduces the amount of taxes you owe and may also give you a refund ( EITC, Earned Income Tax Credit, Questions and Answers. ). In other words, the purpose of the EITC is to lift households which are low income out of poverty, especially for those families with children. The EITC is a combination of both reducing income tax and subsidizing salaries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will support my opinion through the aspects of increasing households income, changes in the labor market, and influences of the poverty rate. Earned Income and adjusted gross income (AGI) must each be less than: Married filing jointly income less than: Maximum credit Households with no qualifying children $14,820 $20,330 $503 Households with one qualifying children $39,131 $44,651 $3,359 Households with two qualifying children $44,454 $49,974 $5,548 Households with three or more qualifying children $47,747 $53,267 $6,242 Investment income must be $3,400 or less for the year. Figure 1: 2015 EITC Income Limits, Maximum Credit Amounts and Tax Law Updates First of all, I want to address the increase in household income by comparing the increase in EITC with the increase in minimum wage. Athreya, Reilly, and Simpson (2010) divided the EITC into three phases: phase in, which is the period that the more workers earned, the more credit they receive; plateau, which is the period that workers can only receive credits up to the maximum and phase out, which is the period in which workers will stop receiving the credits. Therefore, the labor supply curve will be viewed as: Figure 2 Panel A Figure 2 Panel B From Figure 2 Panel A, I realized that for the same household, without the EITC, when wages

The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings for the inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and soon became an apprentice in the firm. While it only took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and doubted his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor had, Kaufmann sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design. In the book, Jonas had to receive the Giver s memories by laying down on a bed while the Giver rubbed his back to transfer the memories to Jonas, Jonas felt nothing unusual at first. He only felt the light touch of the old man s hands on his back ( Pg 101). However, in the movie, it was different. In the movie Jonas had to sit on a chair in front of the Giver. The Giver would hold Jonas wrists to transfer the memories to him. If the movie had used the method from the book, then we wouldn t be able to see Jonas facial expressions because he would be facing down on the bed. Jonas relationship with the Giver is different from the book to the movie and so is his relationship with Fiona. Jonas and Fiona never really had a strong relationship in the book. However, they did have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finish to Start: the most common causal relationship hence no explanation is necessary for its usage. Start to Finish: Rarely used but is useful when developing a schedule backwards from a fixed end date. Start to Start: this represents a true relationship between two activities and has nothing to do with their predecessors. If I happen to have two tasks that start at the same time because of a predecessor, that is better represented as two finish to start relationships (e.g. systems testing developing documentation can both begin once development is complete, but there is no ... As the project evolves, additional information is discovered and further estimates are produced. This is an extremely important process and we cannot emphasize enough the need for this re‐estimation or re‐budgeting process at each phase of the project. In any case, for the purpose of this article, we will call the revised budget the actual budget. Another standard activity is to provide management with an expected cash flow. From a financial perspective this is an important activity, but it also can be used as your cost expectation. As the project progresses, you monitor the actual spending which becomes your actual cost. This cost divided by your actual budget is the % spent, which can be compared to the expectation to provide an excellent guide to where you stand cost‐wise. However, with respect to progress, cost comparison alone is limited. A trend of the cost spending is a useful tool. Actual cost monitoring has several constraints. The major limitation is the availability of the data in real time. Indeed, most project accounting systems have major delays, usually due to the billing/payment system. It might take more than a month before an invoice gets into the accounting system. The best way to resolve this problem is to use a parallel real‐time approximated accounting system. Invoices are accounted for as spent as soon as the work has been performed. Another inadequacy with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis Andrew Sink Mr. McCain Advanced English, period 6 22 September 2014 Raw Human Nature In the novel Lord of The Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of young English boys are forced to fend for themselves as well as each other in hope of rescue. In this novel Golding makes several comments on the tendencies of man when in the absence of a social structure. Throughout the book, Golding tells the reader about human nature. When humans completely give in to human nature, chaos erupts. Through the use of the fire, the beast, and Piggy s glasses William Golding shows how human nature slowly pulls away from civilization when there is no social structure. One way that Golding conveys his message about human nature is with the fire and its smoke. In a sense, the fire is an indicator of the civilization level of the boys. Towards the beginning of the story, Ralph works very hard at keeping up the fire. The other boys help him because they want to be rescued as well. They want the fire to ... Ralph uses Piggy s specs so he can make his signal fires, but when Jack breaks away and forms his own tribe. He steals Piggy s glasses so he can have fire for cooking his meat. The spectacles have the power to save them all from the island, such as Ralph s signal fires, or destroy them all, such as Jack creating a forest fire in an attempt to kill Ralph. The middle school configuration began in the 1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on the assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the whole child (Yecke, 2005). The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle school is an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. This is evidenced by the 3,700 middle school studies between the years of 1993 and 2001 as indicated by Hough, (2003). These studies were noted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During her experiment Ehrenreich only uses the money she earns from her job to pay rent, buy groceries,do laundry, pay for phone, and car. Throughout the article Ehrenreich s purpose is to make high class feel grateful for what they have but at the same time she encourages them to rally support to change conditions for low wage workers. Ehrenreich uses rhetorical techniques of syntactic repetition, pathos, ethos, and evidence to persuade middle and high class Americans to realize the need to raise the minimum wage in order for low wage workers to live comfortable lives. One of the many rhetorical techniques Ehrenreich uses is syntactic repetition as a way of instilling emotions in a readers in order to make them feel sorry for the conditions low wage workers endure and then help in some capacity. The late 19th and early 20th century saw massive Han Chinese migration into the Xinjiang province following an attempted nationalist movement of the Uyghur people in creating an East Turkestan nation. As of 2010, Han Chinese make up nearly 40% of the population, up from less than 10% in 1920 (Spencer, 305). Xinjiang s situation is often compared to that of Tibet, which has had it s own nationalist movements, seen as seperatist movements by the Chinese government and has had varying degrees of international support. Like in Tibet, the Uyghurs in Xinjiang have seen severe government crackdowns on popular movements. Xinjiang has been a focal point of ethnic tension in China for the past several decades. Much of the unrest has taken the form of terrorist attacks on Han Chinese population centers or Chinese landmarks, such as the 2008 suicide bombing attempt on a China Southern Airlines flight (Davis, 2008), and a series of knife attacks in railroad stations and markets across Xinjiang and further south in Hebei province, which also has a sizable Uyghur population. Much of this unrest has been attributed to the Global Jihadi Movement by the Chinese government. • 36. Sweatshops In Developing Countries Todays, when the citizenship is concentrated, sweatshop is becoming a striking issue of controversies. Especially in developed countries, this problem is always boycotted, but on the other hand it is an opportunity for people in underdeveloped countries to change their lives. Although sweatshop is considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking environment, they are beneficial to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working conditions. Firstly, women choose to work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is their only source step out of unavailable and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being restricted to domestic chores and relying on their husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle that they want to escape but do not know the right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not only chance to create stable income, but also sense of their own independence. As the writer mentions that with the small income from garment sweatshop, women in Bangladesh can manage their finances, have their own choice in marriage and having children (Sachs, quoted in Garyfalakis, para5). Moreover, they have chance to go to school and gain their special skills.
