Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Essay
Comparing The Iliad and The Bible
Throughout recorded history, man has sought explanations for the various phenomena that occur in
every facet of nature, and when no obvious answer is forthcoming, still a theory is often proposed.
These explanatory theories, often taking the form of stories or chronicles, are usually linked to some
sort of mysticism or divine intervention. By ascribing that which he does not understand to the gods
will at work, man avoids facing up to his own lack of knowledge in a given area, and also draws
comfort from assuming that the universe does indeed function under the guidance of divine beings.
Thus the explanatory accounts that man crafts enhance his own security, quelling the fear of chaos that

In ancient Greek culture the gods were seen as taking a very active role in the development and course
of human history. The entire Olympian pantheon, as well as many other less important divinities,
meddles in human affairs to no end. The people of the many city states that composed Greece firmly
believed that every aberration from normalcy was due to an act of the gods. Homer, the author of The
Iliad, coined the prevalent religious beliefs of the time in his epic poems, showing the gods as
temperamental and willful, meddlesome and dynamic. Homer s entire poem is replete with instances
of divine intervention in mortal lives, and no single major occurrence comes to pass unless it is the
will of one of the many Olympian gods. Few major decisions are made without consulting the gods
first, and the handful of instances in which one leader or another takes initiative almost always fails
miserably. Life, according to the Greeks, is almost entirely rooted in their religion, as there is a god or
goddess governing every aspect of the universe, and also because the gods so actively involve
themselves in the everyday lives of mortals.
A classic example of this divine involvement occurs within the first page of The Iliad. Achilles, the
great hero of the Achaean armies, and Agamemnon the commander in chief of the Argives clash
bitterly, and the entire epic centers on this conflict. Homer details the cause of this

Senior Show Research Paper
The Senior Show is a relatively new concept at Pinecrest High School, where the seniors, and only
seniors, who are part of the theater department produce, direct, cast, and star in a single play
completely by themselves. This year the seniors chose to work on a play called Almost, Maine, by
John Cariani. The show was performed on May 12, beginning at 7:00 pm. It s a scene based show that
shows love in different lights by using the fictional town of Almost, Maine, said Hannah Bankos.
Almost was produced by Britton Phipps and directed by Bankos and Erik Bensen. Phipps raised the
money, starting with an initial budget of $250 and raising it to a final $1,100. A part of the additional
money came from the fundraiser that the seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The event lasted two hours beginning at 7:00 pm. All students were invited, but only a handful of
students showed up, all of them somehow involved in theater. Participants were allowed to sign up to
sing any song alone or in a group. Songs that were well known in pop culture included, Hakuna
Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back
Together by Taylor Swift. The night ended with a rendition of Don t Stop Believing where everybody
sang. Three weeks after the Karaoke Night was the night of the Senior Show. The show consisted of
two acts with a total of nine scenes. These nine scenes were done with a total of 12 actors, and three
students who worked behind the scenes. The 12 actors had additional behind the scenes rolls, and six
had more than one role to play in the show. These six included Hannah Browning and Daniel Herman.
It was so exciting. I mean, it really gave me an opportunity to come out of my shell because I ve never
played that many characters before, and it was so much fun, said Browning. Browning played two

Christianity In Religion
Christianity as a Religion of the Status Quo
Matthew Fields

Professor Andrew McKee
5 July 2015
1440 Word Count A religion of the status quo can be defined as a religion that disseminates a
characteristic ideology through all segments of society, propounding a set of fundamental values and
principles that, while expressed in terms of lofty abstraction or eternal truth...serves to further the
interests of those who hold power... (Lincoln 79). In layman s terms, a status quo religion is used by
those in a seat of power within a society as a tool to maintain and propagate power. The best existing
example of a religion of the status quo is Christianity. Christianity is the world s primary religion, with

With its fluidity and ever magnifying physical presence, Christianity has spread with the powers of the
world. Speculation of Christian growth combined with historical evidence show how it has spread: In
1900, 83 percent of the world s Christians lived in Europe and North America. In 2050, 72 percent of
Christians will live in Africa, Asia, and Latin America (Jenkins xi). This demographic and geographic
change can be traced back to the beginning of Christian Imperialism. The Roman Empire adopted
religion in the Fourth Century and spread its word across the Empire. Christian writings originally
written in Coptic and Greek began to be written in Latin (Jenkins 22). Although the Romans left
Britain in the Fifth Century, the indigenous Celts and Anglo Saxon peoples of the Isle had learned of
Christianity though Roman conquest and adopted it as their official religion in the Seventh Century
(Jenkins 23). Firmly rooted in Britain, Christianity was able to stowaway on the boats of missionaries
and soldiers as the English Empire spread its wings. Following the Protestant Reformation and
establishment of the Anglican Church, English settlers pushed West across the Atlantic seeking
religious freedom and the ability to raise a new Church the way they saw fit (Merriman 407). These
brave men and women were Pilgrims and Puritans and they carried the torch of Christianity to the
New World. With the establishment of the British colonies in the New World came the eventual
establishment of the United States, the world s next great power in succession after Rome and Britain.
Christianity is and always was the dominant religion of the United States, and as technology
developed and sharing information became easier, global communication and travel increased. With
the Christian faith firmly grounded on both sides of the Atlantic, these developments made it easier to
spread its word and convert even more people to the cause of

Goodman Brown Archetypes

Short Fiction Essay
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s 1835 allegorical, short fiction Young Goodman Brown, innocent, young
Puritan of Salem Village, young Goodman Brown willingly leaves his wife and religion Faith and
enters the dark forest, where he experiences a radical encounter that alters his ways of life. Throughout
this short story Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne reveals man s inherent nature to stray and sin, due
to man s corruption of morality. Human fallibility, even that of the religious, good, pure man, is
inevitable in the world, where sin and darkness reign through the devil s destructive temptations and
accusations. Nathaniel Hawthorne incorporates countless archetypes, allegories, characterizations, ...

Along with character and color archetypes, Hawthorne also includes situational archetypes to convey
the loss of innocence and the fall of man in Young Goodman Brown. The journey sparked by curiosity
led to the encounter with the devil, which resulted in the fall of man and the battle between good and
evil. Therefore, although young Goodman Brown entered the forest with only one intention of
meeting someone and returning back to Faith, the devil does not easily let go of him. When Goodman
Brown halts and tries to turn back towards Faith, the second traveller convinces him to continue and
they continued to walk onward... This scene depicts the constant battle between good and evil, where
the devil throws temptations and leads man astray from the good, pure, straight walk with the Lord.
As Goodman Brown is taken deeper into the forest by the second traveller, they encounter a circle of
devil worshippers, from what it seems. Hawthorne uses imagery, epithets, and dialogue to express the
consuming darkness. As Goodman Brown draws nearer toward the crowd, he sees and hears.
Welcome, my children, says the dark figure, to the communion of your race. Ye have found thus
young your nature and your destiny. My children, look behind you! Hawthorne includes chilling
dialogue of the devil and describes the crowd of figures to be recognizable by Goodman Brown. They
turned; and flashing forth, as

The Ecology Of The Cookie Cutter Shark
The Ecology of the Cookie cutter Shark (Isistius brasiliensis)
The off shore marine environment changes intensively with the change in the ocean depth. There are
three distinctive zones that can be classified along the depth which is the Epipelagic which extends
from the sea surface to a depth of 200 meters, the mesopelagic which extends from a depth of 200
meters to a depth of a 1000 meters and then the Deep sea which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters
to the sea floor (Castro Huber, 2010). The Deep sea can then be divided into a further three zones
(Figure 01) Bathypelagic which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters to 4000 meters, Abyssopelagic
which extends from a depth of 4000 meters to 6000 meters and then the Hadopelagic which extends

The Deep sea ecosystem has been classified as the largest ecosystem compared to all other ecosystems
within the world (Martin, 2003). The main characteristics of this ecosystem is that it experiences very
low oxygen levels, the water temperature is extremely cold, the pressure within this area is very high

Apple Inc. Essay
Apple Inc.
I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has grown over the
past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products from Apple such as Apple TV
and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the new direction they have chosen to take with their
marketing and what it has helped them accomplish over the past couple of years.
Apple Inc. has come a long way from what it used to be. The computer market has always been a PC
based system being mainly pushed by the Microsoft software platform. Apple Computers has been
struggling to make it in the computer market for a long time, going up against their competitor
Microsoft who had a monopoly on the market. Microsoft had such ... Show more content on

This was just the start for Apple s new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody had
to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help promote
their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple s new marketing plan, going for the
entertainment and media side of the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs on
itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and Apple was
on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV, two
revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability to
wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or website on
the internet through their TV. This is the new are of wave of media technology allowing people to
watch whatever they want whenever they want without any regular scheduled programming. This is
also a major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly how many views each
show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item. Everybody wanted one!

Analytical essay of Crossing Mark Slouka
No love is greater than that of a father for His son This quote can be related to the short story crossing,
which is written by Mark Slouka. The father (Narrator) has a past where he failed a lot on the family
front, now he is trying to make things better by trying to improve his bond to his son. A relationship
between a son and his father is difficult to maintain when the sons father and mother are divorced. The
custody is typically awarded to the mother of the child. How would a father behave when he get the
chance to strengthen the bond between his son and himself?
Mark Slouka has used third person limited omniscient narrator. This means a few things for the

However when the sun shines, later in the story, the father gets into a positive mood.
The protagonist in the short story is the father. There is not much dialogue in the short story, so the
characterization of the protagonist will be based on actions and not on what they say. As I mentioned
in the intro, the father has a past where he failed on the family front, the background story is shown in
this quote ...and at some point he saw her watching them, leaning against the kitchen counter in her
bathrobe, and when he looked at her she shook her head and looked away and at that moment he
thought, maybe maybe he could make this right. In this part of the story he is about to get his son and
when he thinks that he could make it right this time, the reader gets an impact that he had done it
wrong in the past. So we have a father who have been on astray and are getting on better thoughts.

Key Performance Indicators Analysis
Key Performance Indicators
The validity and effectiveness of the patient advocacy program can be measured using key
performance indicators or KPIs. KPIs are defined as a set of quantifiable measures that a company or
industry uses to gauge or compare performance in terms of meeting their strategic and operational
goals (Investopedia, 2015). The KPIs chosen for JPS should reflect its goals. As shown in the
Fishbone diagram, healthcare providers are tasked with multiple moving parts such as patient care,
facility management (environment) and emergency room conditions. Therefore, the three KPIs that
will support this process change and continuously measured to success are time to healthcare, lab
turnaround time, and ER waiting times.
KPI#1 The Time to Healthcare Service KPI will help JPS measures its ability to provide incoming
patients with healthcare service in a appropriate manner. This is a vital indicator as it measures
multiple services that patients will receive after check in such as the time it takes to see a nurse or how
long it takes to get discharged. Awareness of wait trends can provide additional data which will
support onboarding the patient advocacy program. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texas is one of the few states that rank among the national average. However, the average ER wait
time for JPS is 52 minutes in comparison to 25 minutes at Texas Health Harris Methodist, which is

patients are currently waiting before being seen by an attending physician. This metric will be a clear
indication of JPS performance and its ability to provide quality patient care. To be effective, JPS can
use different iterations of this indicator: one can monitor the current status of JPS emergency room in
real time and the second can monitor the wait times over different periods i.e. weeks or

Stereotypes Of Geography
Regions are necessary to understand a piece of land in a meaningful manner and to successfully
advance civilization using the surrounding natural resources. Canada, being the second biggest
country in the world, is home to numerous biomes, many forms of natural resources and a very diverse
population. However, Canada is united by the different patchworks of regions that creates it and is
dependent on them to grow. Just like how geographers define regions, the regions themselves define
the country. The contrast between the northern tundra contrasted with the milder border defining south
gives the impression that Canada is much colder than it actually is. For example, the stereotype of
Canada is a very sparsely populated land that is covered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the regions that urban citizens are concerned about may not be the same type of regions that
geographers are studying. For the majority of the population in Canada, regions do not define what
type of land they live but the types of resources, food, and culture they interact with in their daily
lives. Living in an urban or suburban society, the natural resources nor the types of terrain matter little
to them. However, the lingering aspects of early settlers still affects the city dwellers greatly. For
instance, the difference in culture between coastal cities and interior cities could affect the lifestyle
and habits of its inhabitants in unpredictable ways. Even in current times, the importance of regions
for newly immigrants can determine key variables such as accessibility to employment, English
language classes, people of similar cultures or situations, proximity to food/clothing/healthcare can
determine livability in the Toronto Metropolitan Area. Instead of natural resources, the crucial
resources for these refuges are the ability to be able to survive by obtain the ability to communicate
and the ability to make money. As for biomes, the importance of living with like minded people can

Comparing The Opening Shots in Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli s Versions of Romeo and Juliet

Zeffirelli. In order for me to comment on both versions of Romeo and Juliet I will compare the
opening shots, the way the main characters are introduced and the types of music and costumes used

The prologue gives the audience helpful information on the latest goings on in Verona, which helps to
fill you in on what is happening. As the prologue continues I become aware of the original
Shakespearian language that is used, The fearful passage of their death marked love. The use of
opposition within the text is effective in conveying the contrast between Romeo and Juliet and the two
families. As well as this, death and love are opposites that don t normally feature in the same sentence,
causing a strong, instant effect on the audience. Although the Luhrmann film has a modern setting and
opens with a news anchorwoman reading the prologue from the play, it is read in one go and there is
nothing offered to the viewer to make it clearer. It seems that Luhrmann wants to set up a traditional
presentation of the words so that when his vision appears it is even more explosive. Although
Luhrmann works hard at communicating the text, the American speaking actors prove a difficulty.
Dialogue is certainly not of prime importance in this film. In Luhrmann s film the words remain
Shakespearean whereas the images are very much in the late 20th century. Using a television and a
reporter gives me the feeling the director is trying to achieve a modern version of the film one

Boxing Is Boxing
Boxing is not a dehumanating sport because it is legal to the government, others consider it poetry in
motion and it captures a big part of the history. According to Jonn E. JaGozza, boxing is the science of
mentally multi tasking on several levels simultaneously and displaying skill in an overt, disciplined
and aggressive manner. It is a combat sport in which two people engage in a contest of strength, speed,
reflexes, endurance, and will, by throwing punches usually with gloved hands against each other. But
for others, it is not just only a sport, but also an art that everyone could express through boxing. There
are some evidences why boxing is considered legal, reasons why others express their feelings through
boxing and consider it poetry in motion, and there can be more added knowledge in our history.
Boxing can prove that it is legal to the government through evidences. There are some requirements
that is needed and required in order to be a boxer. Like the consent, medical papers, etc. Nobody can

Research Paper Hinduism (Bhagavad Gita)
Arjuna faces the tough decision of facing his own blood in war as he has to fight against his relatives.
As a result we get the distinction of duty and consequences, or deontology and consequentialism.
Deontology is the idea that believes that actions are right or wrong in themselves, regardless of their
consequence. On the other hand, consequentialism is defined as the position that an action is right if it
has good consequences and wrong if it has bad consequences. This is an underlying theme in the
Bhagavad Gita as Arjuna seeks help from his cousin, Krishna on whether or not he should fight. The
Bhagavad Gita shows the tension that Arjuna faces between duty and consequences which ties into the
belief of reincarnation and the purpose of the soul in Hinduism.
Arjuna faces conflict when he has to make the decision to fight people that he was once friends with
and have to kill them in order to survive. When it comes time to fight Arjuna cannot bring himself
together to fight, but Krishna encourages Arjuna to fight by giving him advice through a lot of
philosophical matter. In the end this is what motivates Arjuna to fight again. Krishna provides advice
according to what Arjuna said about why he did not want to fight anymore. Arjuna s argument can be
summarized in two main points: the argument from personal happiness and the argument from evil.
The advice that

A Critical Discourse Analysis Of A Few Of The Speeches By...
The term terrorism is notoriously hard to explain as there is no international consensus on the
definition legally or academically thus is often used to mean many different things by pundits,
politicians and the media. A highly complex phenomenon, terrorism stands at the forefront of
international agendas, and the term is associated with a wide variety of groups all over the world. So
the question is what constitutes terrorism? The dictionary definition is violence or threat of violence
against non combatants or civilians, usually motivated by religious or political ideologies. This paper
aims to do a critical discourse analysis of a few of the speeches by US Leaders George Bush and
Barrack Obama in the aftermath of the attacks on the world trade centre in 2001. It draws on Schiffrin
et al (2003), Foucault s and Van Dijk s concepts of critical discourse analysis and aims to reveal how
Bush and Obama carefully selected emotionally charged language, expressions and gestures to create
fear and panic in the world and how they projected terrorism negatively all the while advocating and
justifying similar strategies and calling it anti terrorism.
Terrorism is a highly complex phenomenon with over one hundred definitions all over the world, it
stands at the forefront of many international agendas. The complexity of this term means it can be
used to describe many different things, depending on the pundits, politicians or media outlet s views

way I was going to let the others defeat me. I heard the pounding of my feet against the track as I ran
the curve. That s when I realized I was already in front of the rest and I began sprinting with every
ounce of energy I had left. There were nearly 100 meters to the finish line and my legs were moving
so fast it felt as if I was flying. I kept thinking about how much I had been working towards this and
how I would not let myself down. Bolting through the finish line I could tell that was one of the best
races I ve ever run. My lungs felt heavy, legs aching from exhaustion and my eyes were watering from
the frigid wind. As my coach was recording my time on his clipboard he revealed how many seconds
faster I had been. Not only had I beaten my own personal best, but I had gotten the fastest sub varsity
time.

The Evolution Of Crime And Our Criminal Justice System
The evolution of crime and our criminal justice system over the past centuries has mirrored societal
change. Gone are the days when one might get their hand cut off for stealing, or stoned to death for an
act against the society, and in are cyber crimes, identify theft and other twenty first century misdeeds.
Along with this evolution, an often forgotten element in the criminal justice process, the victim, began
making its way into the spotlight. Although there have always been victims present in some crimes,
victim rights and victim participation in criminal proceedings did not emerge until the 1970s. Fast
forward to the present, and victim s rights have grown to include: right to restitution, the right not to
be excluded from criminal justice proceedings, the right to speak at criminal justice proceedings, and
the right to be treated with fairness, and respect for the victims dignity and privacy. The inclusion of
victims as a legally recognized participant with rights, interests, and voice, has created an avenue for
victim s voices to be heard, but spawn a delicate balancing act between the interest of the state and the
individual victim. Legal protection for victims varies from State to State with differing statutes and
State constitutions, and research has indicated states with stronger statutory protections provide
victims better access to be involved, and to feel the system is responsive. Victim involvement in the

Data Preparation And Quality Of Data Essay
Introduction Data gathering methods are often loosely controlled, resulting in out of range values
(e.g., Income: 100), impossible data combinations (e.g., Gender: Male, Pregnant: Yes), missing values,
etc. Analyzing data that has not been carefully screened for such problems can produce misleading
results. Thus, the representation and quality of data is first and foremost before running an analysis. If
there is much irrelevant and redundant information present or noisy and unreliable data, then
knowledge discovery during the training phase is more difficult. Data preparation and filtering steps
can take considerable amount of processing time. Data pre processing includes cleaning,
normalization, transformation, feature extraction and selection, etc. The product of data pre processing
is the final training set. Data Pre processing Methods Raw data is highly susceptible to noise, missing
values, and inconsistency. In order to help improve the quality of the data and, consequently of the
results, raw data is pre processed. Data preprocessing is one of the most critical steps in data analysis
which deals with the preparation and transformation of the initial dataset. Data preprocessing methods
are divided into following categories:  Data Cleaning  Data Integration  Data Transformation 
Data Reduction Data Cleaning Data that is to be analyzed can be incomplete (lacking attribute values
or certain attributes of interest, or containing only aggregate data), noisy

The Syrian Refugee And Migration Crisis
The pioneering seminars for this course identified and introduced the groupings of the multiplicity of
theories, which exist in the world of International Relations today. The study of International Relations
like any other academic field of study makes use of theories and frameworks through which the field
is conceptualized; therefore, one must be careful when grouping these theories even further, by paying
attention to the individual similarities and differences which are found within these theories and how
they complement or contrast each other. According to International Relations by Joshua Goldstein, Jon
Pevehouse and Sandra Whitworth (hereof known as Goldstein et al.), one way to look at the variety of
theories is to distinguish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, it will conclude that the most suitable method for viewing International Relations, and the
method which I find most persuasive is the liberal pluralist perspective, as it best supports the mandate
for world peace.
Individuals who identify with realist paradigm, according to Goldstein et al., find their most fertile
ground in the subfield of international security, with its logic of military power (Goldstein et al., 5)
this means that they place a specific focus on the powers of military in anticipation of any possible
outbreak of war. This perspective mirrors the opening arguments of the Huffington Post article as it
labels its sub topic with a quote from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, No Solution to Syrian Crisis
Without Military Support (Huffington Post). From this perspective, the Conservative leader can be
characterized as a realist as he acknowledges the state actor, in this case, Canada to be the most
important actor, and while assuming the position of a decision maker who helps to decide what
Canada must do on a global stage in relation to the middle east, which in this in case he proffers a
deployment of troops into Syria.
Realists believe that the most important actors in world politics are states and state decision makers

Colorado Springs Adoption Case Study
The general goal of the Humane Society Colorado Springs, is to eliminate the cruelty and suffering of
animals. In a quest to keep animals safe and in places where they are treated with love and care, they
possess a rescue and adoption program. It is a big and important decision to make the decision about
bringing an adopted pet into your home. Not everyone can realistically adopt a pet and they can
donate in other ways. If you have truly evaluated your time, money and housing restrictions and still
feel it is the right choice for you, then it is time for you to understand the adoption process and how it
works.
There is an on line site where you can go and take a look at what animals are currently up for
adoption. The staff does their best to keep this information up to date. Adoption is based on a first

talk to you frankly about the cares and needs of the animals and see if this situation is truly a match .
At the Colorado Springs Humane Society, they don t have an adoption application. They have an

Educating Students In High Schools
High school is supposed to be four years of learning everything that will be needed to become a
successful adult after graduation. However, it is the opinion of many that high schools are not
educating students on things that will truly help them succeed in adult life. There are many supporting
statements for this argument, many students have to take classes that have nothing to do with what
they plan on majoring in, most students that graduate have no idea how to do their own taxes or
anything like that, and they feel like teachers do not give them enough freedom in the classroom.
Depending on where the high school is at, roughly around 30 credits are needed to graduate school
and most of these credits are earned in classes that students learn things that they will never need
again. If a student wants to me a book publisher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some teachers understand this and give the students trust and allow them to leave the classroom for
things like the restroom and to get a drink. Instilling trust into student will show them more how to be
an adult which is what a teacher should want for their students. Students are so used to being told what
to do and when to do it that they have so self responsibility, they expect someone else to instruct them
on everything.
This is among many reasons why high schools should broaden their offered classes and the way they
treat their students. This would greatly improve the education levels and the way the students act
themselves. Students would be motivated to attend and do their best in school if they are actually
doing things that will improve their futures. Schools need to broaden what they are offering to their
students and teach them things that they will actually use in their future to better themselves as

Weaknesses Of The Hague Rules
The Hague rules had many imperfections, which highlights its change to the later amended 1971
Hague Visby rules. One of the many weaknesses of the Hague rules was that in article X The
provisions of this Convention shall apply to all bills of lading issued in any of the contracting States .
According to Hasan ZB and Nazli I (2007). Shipment from ports not in the contracting states to any
port in contracting states. The Hague Rules do not apply but rather the law of the country from where
the goods were shipped would be the valid law. According to Hasan ZB and Nazli I (2007), this
creates loopholes where parties are able to contract out of the Hague rules by selecting any law other
than the law where the bill of lading is issued as the governing law. Earlier common law cases like the
case Moorcock (1889) is helpful in this area of contract law, as implied contract terms if breached can
have locus standi in courts and individuals should be aware of them within a contract. This highlights
how the Hague rules do not add much to earlier common law provisions. An additional common law
case would be Liver alkali v Jonson (1874), which gives the carrier complete liability giving far better
protection to cargo owners.
An additional fault with The Hague rules is that the Maximum Limit of a carrier s liability was set to
low. The limitation of carrier s liability is stated in Article IV Rule 5. Neither the carrier nor the ship
shall in any event be or become liable for any loss or

Economic Overview of Indonesia
Executive Summary Executive Summary This paper examines the economic environment of doing
business in Indonesia. It takes into account several dimensions such as political, legal, economics,
social and technology factors. However, economics and political factors are covered in depth as they
have a greater impact on establishing advantages and challenges when a firm might decide to set up a
business in Indonesia. The results show that not only legal origins have an impact on corporate
finance, ownership and structure, but also politics. The poor quality of the judiciary and legal system
and the bureaucracy is much more a legacy of the Soeharto government than of the Dutch colonial
system (and French civil law). From the analysis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to understand the causes of these fluctuations and its recent rapid increase, it is crucial to look
at the different indicators that have caused the aforementioned fluctuations. Business Environment In
2004, Indonesia overall score dramatically decreased. It was mainly due to a decrease of its monetary
and investment freedom indicators (see Exhibit 4 and 5 relatively). Whereas its rapidly increase from
2005, it was mainly due to an increase of its trade (see Exhibit 6) and again monetary freedom
indicators. Between 2002 and 2004, the monetary freedom indictors decreased as a result of a number
of factors, including a loss of policy credibility, currency weakness, deteriorating terms of trade and a
reduction in fuel price subsidies. In 2004 the annual inflation reached 18.14%, Inflation became the
principal threat to economic stability; the government intervened reforming the monetary policy. (see

liquidity indicators improved over the years. The quality of loan portfolios has also been strengthened.
State owned banks have a large presence in the sector and the non bank sector is relatively small.

Comparing M4 And Ak 47
M4 and AK 47 Popularity over performance or performance over popularity. The M4 is a standard
issue gun for the U.S Army well known in the U.S. The AK 47 is a worldwide known gun and over
ten countries use it for their military use. Both are used today in war both have many similarities and
differences. One has popularity and one has performance because of their history they have. Both guns
brings pros and cons to the table they are great guns because of the pros they have. Both are used in
war and for everyday people. The AK 47 and the M4 are both used by nations army s around the

The AK 47 more in detail has a, metallic curved detachable box magazine which held 30 round of
ammunition. Another telling feature was the over barrel positioning of the gas cylinder which
combined with the wooden furniture and curved magazine, (Since 1949). If you want a bigger bang
for your buck the AK is the gun for you but if you want precision marksmanship shots the M4 is a
better choice. The M4 has more performance specs than the AK which makes it precise but the AK has
a bigger bang for the people for wanting more action in their gun. Both guns are known in the U.S by
basically everyone with knowledge of guns. The M4 is only known in the U.S and were the U.S army
uses it but the AK is known worldwide because of its major history it has. With the M4 its only a
standard issue gun for some U.S military branches and only in the U.S but with the AK it s a standard
issue gun for more than ten countries military branches. Being a standard issue gun in more countries
it would make any gun more known in the world. If you take a M4 to the middle of Africa or to India
they wouldn t know what gun it is, in other hands if you take an AK to any place in the world they
would know what it is right of the bat. The U.S. Army has over 500,000 M4s in its arsenal, (Kaplan)
that s not a lot to be known around the world they have so little in circulation because they always

Race Power And Prejudice Research Paper
Race, Power and Prejudice: An exploration of social and political vision of J.K Rowling in the Harry
Potter series
 Background to the research:
Generally speaking, it is very difficult to give an apt definition of racism. Race, however, can be
defined as a group of individuals belonging to certain ethnicity. The reason for one s inability to give a
proper definition of racism is that the concept in itself at its roots stems out of distinctions based upon
one s own mentality, outlook or social construct that they were born in. So, racism or rather prejudice
based upon someone s colour, caste or creed is a concept that is and will forever remain a matter of

Semiochemicals Essay
Semiochemicals are organic molecules that transmit chemical messages within the same or different
species of animals and plants. There are multiple distinctions within semiochemicals like pheromones,
kairomones and allomones (Zumdahl, 1989). Pheromones are chemicals that have an effect on the
receptors within similar species of the producer, and they tend to be highly volatile compounds (ibid).
There are different types of pheromones according to the response they stimulate on the receiving
party, as shown in figure 1. Volatile pheromones are represented as either sex or defensive pheromones
and they usually produce a specific odor.
The sex pheromone is usually produced by females that ultimately results in the attraction of males
which leads to mating. Sex pheromone focuses on attracting the opposite sex and transmitting
information regarding their species, age and sex; therefore sex pheromones play a role in reproduction
(Regnier and Law, 1968). On the other end of the spectrum, alarm pheromones are highly volatile
compounds that are released upon encountering danger, and they are also used for alerting others to a
threat, making them vital for survival (Landolt et al., 1999; Post et al., 1984). The formation, uses,
application, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An advantage to humans in bait trapping would be to use sex pheromone chemicals to reduce the
population of snakes and lizards in a certain area. Another related advantage to humans by using alarm
pheromone chemicals is to repel snakes and lizards from a certain area that could be harmful to the
animals themselves or to the humans (Radcliffe et al., 2008). On the other hand, mate disruption could
be a disadvantage to animals. Mate disruption, which usually occurs in insects, involves the release of
large amounts of sex pheromones, released by the females, resulting in the confusion of the males and
the inability to locate females, as shown in figure

Critical Analysis OfMoney, By Roger Waters
Money, it s a hit
Don t give me that do goody good bullshit
I m in the high fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet (Waters 9 12)
Money by Pink Floyd is a song written by Roger Waters and released in May of 1973. The main focus
of the song beyond the obvious (money) is the subtle commentary the singer makes on the capitalist
system. At the time of its release, the post World War II Soviet Union s economy was booming, and
massive periods stagflation in America began to force citizens to question the validity of the regulated
brand of capitalism made popular in the decades following Roosevelt s New Deal. The song, a
representation of American pop culture at the time, appears at first glance to be a sardonic
condemnation of the wealthiest members of society. However, a closer analysis reveals that the true
interpretation of the song is a literal one; Money is undoudbetdly a praise of capitalism. Waters
linguistic choices and overall message are unequivocally meant to simultaneously affirm a capitalist
system and glorify wealth. Most important in analyzing the passage is the overall meaning intended by
the speaker, Waters, and the structure of the song is paramount in determining it. In the first line, he
glorifies wealth and de facto the institutions from which it is produced. Money, it s a hit he claims,
whilst the baseline jauntily echoes his painfully obvious positive attitude (Waters 9). His next
statement is a response to an implied

  • 2. Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Essay Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Throughout recorded history, man has sought explanations for the various phenomena that occur in every facet of nature, and when no obvious answer is forthcoming, still a theory is often proposed. These explanatory theories, often taking the form of stories or chronicles, are usually linked to some sort of mysticism or divine intervention. By ascribing that which he does not understand to the gods will at work, man avoids facing up to his own lack of knowledge in a given area, and also draws comfort from assuming that the universe does indeed function under the guidance of divine beings. Thus the explanatory accounts that man crafts enhance his own security, quelling the fear of chaos that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In ancient Greek culture the gods were seen as taking a very active role in the development and course of human history. The entire Olympian pantheon, as well as many other less important divinities, meddles in human affairs to no end. The people of the many city states that composed Greece firmly believed that every aberration from normalcy was due to an act of the gods. Homer, the author of The Iliad, coined the prevalent religious beliefs of the time in his epic poems, showing the gods as temperamental and willful, meddlesome and dynamic. Homer s entire poem is replete with instances of divine intervention in mortal lives, and no single major occurrence comes to pass unless it is the will of one of the many Olympian gods. Few major decisions are made without consulting the gods first, and the handful of instances in which one leader or another takes initiative almost always fails miserably. Life, according to the Greeks, is almost entirely rooted in their religion, as there is a god or goddess governing every aspect of the universe, and also because the gods so actively involve themselves in the everyday lives of mortals. A classic example of this divine involvement occurs within the first page of The Iliad. Achilles, the great hero of the Achaean armies, and Agamemnon the commander in chief of the Argives clash bitterly, and the entire epic centers on this conflict. Homer details the cause of this ... • 3. Senior Show Research Paper The Senior Show is a relatively new concept at Pinecrest High School, where the seniors, and only seniors, who are part of the theater department produce, direct, cast, and star in a single play completely by themselves. This year the seniors chose to work on a play called Almost, Maine, by John Cariani. The show was performed on May 12, beginning at 7:00 pm. It s a scene based show that shows love in different lights by using the fictional town of Almost, Maine, said Hannah Bankos. Almost was produced by Britton Phipps and directed by Bankos and Erik Bensen. Phipps raised the money, starting with an initial budget of $250 and raising it to a final $1,100. A part of the additional money came from the fundraiser that the seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The event lasted two hours beginning at 7:00 pm. All students were invited, but only a handful of students showed up, all of them somehow involved in theater. Participants were allowed to sign up to sing any song alone or in a group. Songs that were well known in pop culture included, Hakuna Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. The night ended with a rendition of Don t Stop Believing where everybody sang. Three weeks after the Karaoke Night was the night of the Senior Show. The show consisted of two acts with a total of nine scenes. These nine scenes were done with a total of 12 actors, and three students who worked behind the scenes. The 12 actors had additional behind the scenes rolls, and six had more than one role to play in the show. These six included Hannah Browning and Daniel Herman. It was so exciting. I mean, it really gave me an opportunity to come out of my shell because I ve never played that many characters before, and it was so much fun, said Browning. Christianity In Religion Christianity as a Religion of the Status Quo Matthew Fields REL 1300 Professor Andrew McKee 5 July 2015 1440 Word Count A religion of the status quo can be defined as a religion that disseminates a characteristic ideology through all segments of society, propounding a set of fundamental values and principles that, while expressed in terms of lofty abstraction or eternal truth...serves to further the interests of those who hold power... (Lincoln 79). In layman s terms, a status quo religion is used by those in a seat of power within a society as a tool to maintain and propagate power. With its fluidity and ever magnifying physical presence, Christianity has spread with the powers of the world. Speculation of Christian growth combined with historical evidence show how it has spread: In 1900, 83 percent of the world s Christians lived in Europe and North America. In 2050, 72 percent of Christians will live in Africa, Asia, and Latin America (Jenkins xi). This demographic and geographic change can be traced back to the beginning of Christian Imperialism. The Roman Empire adopted religion in the Fourth Century and spread its word across the Empire. Christian writings originally written in Coptic and Greek began to be written in Latin (Jenkins 22). Although the Romans left Britain in the Fifth Century, the indigenous Celts and Anglo Saxon peoples of the Isle had learned of Christianity though Roman conquest and adopted it as their official religion in the Seventh Century (Jenkins 23). Firmly rooted in Britain, Christianity was able to stowaway on the boats of missionaries and soldiers as the English Empire spread its wings. Following the Protestant Reformation and establishment of the Anglican Church, English settlers pushed West across the Atlantic seeking religious freedom and the ability to raise a new Church the way they saw fit (Merriman 407). These brave men and women were Pilgrims and Puritans and they carried the torch of Christianity to the New World. With the establishment of the British colonies in the New World came the eventual establishment of the United States, the world s next great power in succession after Rome and Britain. Christianity is and always was the dominant religion of the United States, and as technology developed and sharing information became easier, global communication and travel increased. With the Christian faith firmly grounded on both sides of the Atlantic, these developments made it easier to spread its word and convert even more people to the cause of ... Goodman Brown Archetypes Olivia Kim AP Literature Short Fiction Essay In Nathaniel Hawthorne s 1835 allegorical, short fiction Young Goodman Brown, innocent, young Puritan of Salem Village, young Goodman Brown willingly leaves his wife and religion Faith and enters the dark forest, where he experiences a radical encounter that alters his ways of life. Throughout this short story Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne reveals man s inherent nature to stray and sin, due to man s corruption of morality. Human fallibility, even that of the religious, good, pure man, is inevitable in the world, where sin and darkness reign through the devil s destructive temptations and accusations. Along with character and color archetypes, Hawthorne also includes situational archetypes to convey the loss of innocence and the fall of man in Young Goodman Brown. The journey sparked by curiosity led to the encounter with the devil, which resulted in the fall of man and the battle between good and evil. Therefore, although young Goodman Brown entered the forest with only one intention of meeting someone and returning back to Faith, the devil does not easily let go of him. When Goodman Brown halts and tries to turn back towards Faith, the second traveller convinces him to continue and they continued to walk onward... This scene depicts the constant battle between good and evil, where the devil throws temptations and leads man astray from the good, pure, straight walk with the Lord. As Goodman Brown is taken deeper into the forest by the second traveller, they encounter a circle of devil worshippers, from what it seems. Hawthorne uses imagery, epithets, and dialogue to express the consuming darkness. As Goodman Brown draws nearer toward the crowd, he sees and hears. Welcome, my children, says the dark figure, to the communion of your race. Ye have found thus young your nature and your destiny. My children, look behind you! • 9. Key Performance Indicators Analysis Key Performance Indicators The validity and effectiveness of the patient advocacy program can be measured using key performance indicators or KPIs. KPIs are defined as a set of quantifiable measures that a company or industry uses to gauge or compare performance in terms of meeting their strategic and operational goals (Investopedia, 2015). The KPIs chosen for JPS should reflect its goals. As shown in the Fishbone diagram, healthcare providers are tasked with multiple moving parts such as patient care, facility management (environment) and emergency room conditions. Canada, being the second biggest country in the world, is home to numerous biomes, many forms of natural resources and a very diverse population. However, Canada is united by the different patchworks of regions that creates it and is dependent on them to grow. Just like how geographers define regions, the regions themselves define the country. The contrast between the northern tundra contrasted with the milder border defining south gives the impression that Canada is much colder than it actually is. For the majority of the population in Canada, regions do not define what type of land they live but the types of resources, food, and culture they interact with in their daily lives. Living in an urban or suburban society, the natural resources nor the types of terrain matter little to them. However, the lingering aspects of early settlers still affects the city dwellers greatly. For instance, the difference in culture between coastal cities and interior cities could affect the lifestyle and habits of its inhabitants in unpredictable ways. Even in current times, the importance of regions for newly immigrants can determine key variables such as accessibility to employment, English language classes, people of similar cultures or situations, proximity to food/clothing/healthcare can determine livability in the Toronto Metropolitan Area. Instead of natural resources, the crucial resources for these refuges are the ability to be able to survive by obtain the ability to communicate and the ability to make money. In this way using the analogy of the cup shows that the cup is there but it is upside down therefore it cannot be used or filled up because for example if its upside down on a table it is shut out and closed but it s there. In order for me to comment on both versions of Romeo and Juliet I will compare the opening shots, the way the main characters are introduced and the types of music and costumes used in each version. Baz Luhrmann s film takes place in contemporary America. The latest version of Romeo and Juliet was filmed in 1997 at Verona Beach, California. As the prologue continues I become aware of the original Shakespearian language that is used, The fearful passage of their death marked love. The use of opposition within the text is effective in conveying the contrast between Romeo and Juliet and the two families. As well as this, death and love are opposites that don t normally feature in the same sentence, causing a strong, instant effect on the audience. Although the Luhrmann film has a modern setting and opens with a news anchorwoman reading the prologue from the play, it is read in one go and there is nothing offered to the viewer to make it clearer. It seems that Luhrmann wants to set up a traditional presentation of the words so that when his vision appears it is even more explosive. Although Luhrmann works hard at communicating the text, the American speaking actors prove a difficulty. Dialogue is certainly not of prime importance in this film. In Luhrmann s film the words remain Shakespearean whereas the images are very much in the late 20th century. Examples Of Consequentialism In Bhagavad Gita Rikin Patel Brian Donohue World Civilization 111 29 October 2014 Research Paper Hinduism (Bhagavad Gita) Arjuna faces the tough decision of facing his own blood in war as he has to fight against his relatives. As a result we get the distinction of duty and consequences, or deontology and consequentialism. Deontology is the idea that believes that actions are right or wrong in themselves, regardless of their consequence. On the other hand, consequentialism is defined as the position that an action is right if it has good consequences and wrong if it has bad consequences. This is an underlying theme in the Bhagavad Gita as Arjuna seeks help from his cousin, Krishna on whether or not he should fight. The Bhagavad Gita shows the tension that Arjuna faces between duty and consequences which ties into the belief of reincarnation and the purpose of the soul in Hinduism. Arjuna faces conflict when he has to make the decision to fight people that he was once friends with and have to kill them in order to survive. When it comes time to fight Arjuna cannot bring himself together to fight, but Krishna encourages Arjuna to fight by giving him advice through a lot of philosophical matter. In the end this is what motivates Arjuna to fight again. Krishna provides advice according to what Arjuna said about why he did not want to fight anymore. Arjuna s argument can be summarized in two main points: the argument from personal happiness and the argument from evil. The advice that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gone are the days when one might get their hand cut off for stealing, or stoned to death for an act against the society, and in are cyber crimes, identify theft and other twenty first century misdeeds. Along with this evolution, an often forgotten element in the criminal justice process, the victim, began making its way into the spotlight. Although there have always been victims present in some crimes, victim rights and victim participation in criminal proceedings did not emerge until the 1970s. Fast forward to the present, and victim s rights have grown to include: right to restitution, the right not to be excluded from criminal justice proceedings, the right to speak at criminal justice proceedings, and the right to be treated with fairness, and respect for the victims dignity and privacy. The inclusion of victims as a legally recognized participant with rights, interests, and voice, has created an avenue for victim s voices to be heard, but spawn a delicate balancing act between the interest of the state and the individual victim. Legal protection for victims varies from State to State with differing statutes and State constitutions, and research has indicated states with stronger statutory protections provide victims better access to be involved, and to feel the system is responsive. • 23. Data Preparation And Quality Of Data Essay Introduction Data gathering methods are often loosely controlled, resulting in out of range values (e.g., Income: 100), impossible data combinations (e.g., Gender: Male, Pregnant: Yes), missing values, etc. Analyzing data that has not been carefully screened for such problems can produce misleading results. Thus, the representation and quality of data is first and foremost before running an analysis. If there is much irrelevant and redundant information present or noisy and unreliable data, then knowledge discovery during the training phase is more difficult. Data preparation and filtering steps can take considerable amount of processing time. Data pre processing includes cleaning, normalization, transformation, feature extraction and selection, etc. The product of data pre processing is the final training set. Data Pre processing Methods Raw data is highly susceptible to noise, missing values, and inconsistency. In order to help improve the quality of the data and, consequently of the results, raw data is pre processed. Data preprocessing is one of the most critical steps in data analysis which deals with the preparation and transformation of the initial dataset. The Hague Rules do not apply but rather the law of the country from where the goods were shipped would be the valid law. Earlier common law cases like the case Moorcock (1889) is helpful in this area of contract law, as implied contract terms if breached can have locus standi in courts and individuals should be aware of them within a contract. This highlights how the Hague rules do not add much to earlier common law provisions. An additional common law case would be Liver alkali v Jonson (1874), which gives the carrier complete liability giving far better protection to cargo owners. With the M4 its only a standard issue gun for some U.S military branches and only in the U.S but with the AK it s a standard issue gun for more than ten countries military branches. Being a standard issue gun in more countries it would make any gun more known in the world. If you take a M4 to the middle of Africa or to India they wouldn t know what gun it is, in other hands if you take an AK to any place in the world they would know what it is right of the bat. The U.S. Army has over 500,000 M4s in its arsenal, (Kaplan) that s not a lot to be known around the world they have so little in circulation because they always scratch their ideas to make the M4 a better gun. Race Power And Prejudice Research Paper Race, Power and Prejudice: An exploration of social and political vision of J.K Rowling in the Harry Potter series  Background to the research: Generally speaking, it is very difficult to give an apt definition of racism. Race, however, can be defined as a group of individuals belonging to certain ethnicity. • 33. Semiochemicals Essay Semiochemicals are organic molecules that transmit chemical messages within the same or different species of animals and plants. There are multiple distinctions within semiochemicals like pheromones, kairomones and allomones (Zumdahl, 1989). Pheromones are chemicals that have an effect on the receptors within similar species of the producer, and they tend to be highly volatile compounds (ibid). There are different types of pheromones according to the response they stimulate on the receiving party, as shown in figure 1. Volatile pheromones are represented as either sex or defensive pheromones and they usually produce a specific odor. The sex pheromone is usually produced by females that ultimately results in the attraction of males which leads to mating. Sex pheromone focuses on attracting the opposite sex and transmitting information regarding their species, age and sex; therefore sex pheromones play a role in reproduction (Regnier and Law, 1968). On the other end of the spectrum, alarm pheromones are highly volatile compounds that are released upon encountering danger, and they are also used for alerting others to a threat, making them vital for survival (Landolt et al., 1999; Post et al., 1984). The formation, uses, application, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An advantage to humans in bait trapping would be to use sex pheromone chemicals to reduce the population of snakes and lizards in a certain area. Another related advantage to humans by using alarm pheromone chemicals is to repel snakes and lizards from a certain area that could be harmful to the animals themselves or to the humans (Radcliffe et al., 2008). On the other hand, mate disruption could be a disadvantage to animals. Mate disruption, which usually occurs in insects, involves the release of large amounts of sex pheromones, released by the females, resulting in the confusion of the males and the inability to locate females, as shown in figure ... • 34. Critical Analysis OfMoney, By Roger Waters Money, it s a hit Don t give me that do goody good bullshit I m in the high fidelity first class traveling set And I think I need a Lear jet (Waters 9 12) Money by Pink Floyd is a song written by Roger Waters and released in May of 1973. The main focus of the song beyond the obvious (money) is the subtle commentary the singer makes on the capitalist system. At the time of its release, the post World War II Soviet Union s economy was booming, and massive periods stagflation in America began to force citizens to question the validity of the regulated brand of capitalism made popular in the decades following Roosevelt s New Deal. The song, a representation of American pop culture at the time, appears at first glance to be a sardonic condemnation of the wealthiest members of society. However, a closer analysis reveals that the true interpretation of the song is a literal one; Money is undoudbetdly a praise of capitalism. Waters linguistic choices and overall message are unequivocally meant to simultaneously affirm a capitalist system and glorify wealth. Most important in analyzing the passage is the overall meaning intended by the speaker, Waters, and the structure of the song is paramount in determining it. In the first line, he glorifies wealth and de facto the institutions from which it is produced. Money, it s a hit he claims, whilst the baseline jauntily echoes his painfully obvious positive attitude (Waters 9). His next statement is a response to an implied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
