Allen Stanford s Ponzi Scheme
Allen Stanford s Ponzi scheme is considered to be one of the top grossing Ponzi schemes that have
been at the forefront of white collar crime. As stated on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
website, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to
earlier investors by the contribution of new investors that promises to generate high returns with little
or no risk (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their faith in the offender out of
trust or any other personal reason and in the case of Allen Stanford it is no different. Allen Stanford
used his status that he had built throughout his life to take advantage of many people through the use
of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an empire by defrauding individuals out of
what has been reported up to $6 billion and some sources have estimated up to $8 billion. This paper
will discuss how Mr. Stanford went from king to prison in a 20 year span. Allen Stanford was born in
Mexia, Texas to a lower middle class family. Stanford s parents eventually divorced and he moved to
Fort Worth, Texas. Tim Elfrink of the Broward/Palm Beach New Times stated that people who knew
Allen Stanford at a young age said that he was always out to make a quick buck and he was well
known for this. Some of his first ventures into making money were selling firewood (Elfrink, 2009).

Memory Retention Research Paper
Research: Memory retention is essential to all human beings. It is a fundamental function of our brain:
whether it be memorizing people s names, memorizing math formulas, or memorizing the location of
the car keys. We all recognize the importance of memorization and we all seek ways to improve our
memory retention skills. Many different parts of the brain control a person s memory, but the most
important part is the frontal lobe. It controls working and short term memory. Due to the processes of
stimulus of the sensory memory which transmits to the frontal lobe, people can, on average, recall 7
items after looking at them for 15 seconds. Neuroscience journal In the frontal lobe, encoding, storage,

The beneficial activity of walking also causes an improvement of creativity according to Dr. Oppezzo
of Stanford University. Dr. Oppezzo created a matched pair experimental design using undergraduate
student volunteers as subjects that tests the variable of walking versus sitting and inside walking
versus outside walking. he conducted 3 experiments in which she compared tests of GAU (creative
divergent thinking) and CRA (convergent thinking) using the variables of walking on a treadmill,
sitting, walking then sitting, sitting then walking, sitting twice, and outdoors walking. For her last test
she compared tests of creative analogy generation with the variables of sitting inside, walking on a
treadmill inside, walking outside, and rolling on a wheelchair outside. In all of her findings, she saw
an increase in creativity following or during the physical activity of walking. The increase in creativity
she found was also independent of location of the test, meaning that being outdoors did not help or
hinder memory retention skills when compared to results from indoors. This suggests that some
physical aspect of walking stimulates the brain s memory system. But, more research needs to be
conducted to understand the biological cause of this effect, which Dr. Oppezzo calls acute. She is
unable to provide any scientifically based answers to the results of her experiment because it is still
unclear

The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle Essay
The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle
The three periods of development I will cover in this piece of coursework are the Norman Period, the
Medieval Period and the Elizabethan Period.
Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology.
Norman Period 1070 1130:
The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner
of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Fitzosbern proceeded to convert the
partly existing burgh into a wooden motte and bailey castle by firstly constructing a campaign fort in
one corner, as stated in The Carisbrooke Castle Official Guide Book ... Show more content on

Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be built
quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls
were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the
wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to
shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the
Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges.
The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too.
Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour
hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around
1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being
added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this
period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops
would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers.
The earthworks were adorned with

Common Stereotypes Of Neanderthals
Common portrayals of Neanderthals to the public often include images that depict them as your
typical cavemen, with clubs for weapons and animal fur for clothes, and faces that resemble
chimpanzees. The stereotype that cavemen are devoid of common knowledge is often paired up with
these group of people; however, a study published this August by a team of archaeologists suggest that
the ability to procure tar and use it as a primitive form of adhesive to make complex tools, proves their
cleverness and resourcefulness that is often overlooked. In The New York Times, the article
summarizes the study s findings by demonstrating several methods the Neanderthals could have used
to make tar. In general, the team of archaeologists tested out a few

Dian Fossey s Gorillas in the Mist Essay
Dian Fossey s Gorillas in the Mist Gorillas in the Mist is one of the most emotional and inspiring
books I have ever read. This autobiography is by, in my eyes, the most admired researcher ever to
walk the face of this earth. There is no woman more dedicated to anything than Dian Fossey. This
woman stood her ground through thick and thin to protect the lives of one of the most threatened
species today.
Dian Fossey was a normal young lady that had the dream of taking part in the research of gorillas in
Africa. She attended a conference one evening that was given by Dr. Louis Leaky. Dr. Leaky talked
about the enormous problem of keeping the gorillas that roamed the Virunga Mountains of Africa
from going extinct. He explained the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They drove deep into the Congo forest until they stood under the steep mountainside of the Virunga
Mountains. Fossey, Sambeggar and the rest of the helpers unloaded the car and began the hours of
walking necessary to reach their destination. Finally, they reached an opening in the woods where a
small, worn down shack stood. They unpacked the bags of supplies and clothes and settled in.
At first chance, Sambeggar and Fossey took off into the mountains in search of the gorillas. After five
hours of walking, Fossey finally asked Sambeggar where he was taking them. Sambeggar told her that
he was not a gorilla tracker, for he only tracked gazelle, antelope, and elephant. For six months, no
gorilla had been seen by any of the men.
Finally, after six months of seeing nothing, Sambeggar and Fossey found a group of gorillas nosing
their ways through the thick underlay of the forest. As Fossey stares in amazement at the beautiful
group of gorillas, the lead silver back spots them. He begins to charge at them. Fossey and Sambeggar
retreat through the woods and escape the huge silver back .
A few days passed and Fossey continued to see the gorillas. But, with the force of the civil war troops,
Fossey is forced to move to the other side of the mountain range.
Here, she located a different group of gorillas. She named the group, Number Four. She studied this

Israeli Security Concerns
Abstract The following essay takes a realist approach to the issue of Israel s refugee problem. The
essay addresses the security issue of the Right of Return where more than 4 million Palestinian termed
refugees clamor to return to their homes that they were displaced from during the 1948 war. Whilst
Palestinians demand the right to return to their Israeli located homes under the right of United Nations
General Assembly article 11 of Resolution 194, Israelis fear the displacement of their state by a huge
and exponential number of Palestinian refugees returning. The essay summarizes historical points that
constitute the problem. Analysis of the problems shows that the traditional definition of refugee has
been corrupted to suit UNRWA agenda where the refugee number has grown and will continue to
grow to absurd lengths. One policy therefore recommends that the UN amend this definition to reflect
a more solid reality. An alternate policy recommends that the UNRWA be replaced by its more
affective predecessor, the UNHRCA. The essay, too, recommends that America work in amending this
change since by so doing America will be assisting her own terrorist problem. Table of contents A

St. Paul s Cathedral in London, England Essay
St. Paul s Cathedral, in London, England, was designed by architect Sir Christopher Wren. Approval
of this most significant architectural project took six years just for the plan. Construction, which began
in 1675, took thirty five years until finally complete in 1710. It was built to replace a church that had
been leveled by the Great Fire of 1666. St. Paul s is the largest cathedral in England, and said to be
Wren s masterpiece. He brought a range of new forms, and architectural combination into English
architecture. Masonry, brick, timber, and cut stone were used to form the structure of the cathedral. St.

Sir Christopher Wren s design of St. Paul s Cathedral, is not only the largest cathedral in England, but
one of the most significant stylistically architectural combinations into English Architecture.
After the Great Fire, parts of the remains of Old St Paul s were patched up as a temporary cathedral.
The structure, however, was in a very bad shape, and in May 1668, after a fall of the remains of the
building materials fell; Wren was asked to submit proposals for a new cathedral. Wren s first proposal,
The First Model , was quickly neglected, because it was said to be too modest. His second proposal
was a mimic of the Greek cross. It was a classical style of the Italian Renaissance, it was centrally
planned, and the main interior space was set beneath an enormous dome, and auxiliary spaces were
located around the sides. But the clergy, who were only familiar with cathedrals whose designs, were
Romanesque or Gothic, and were not familiar to classical architecture in his design, quickly through
out the new design. His third design, The Warrant Design , was still classical architecture, but it was
based on the criticisms of the Greek cross design. The plan was longitudinal, the nave and choir were
bordered by lower aisles, and the towers and spire suggested the shape of medieval England. This
design was approved by King Charles II, but Wren

Why Do Dogs Chew
The Secrets To Why Do Dogs Chew Chewing is one of the most common habits you will see mostly
in all the dogs. Does not matter which type of breed you own, you will find them chewing very often.
They chew bones, sticks, plastic and some dogs go to extent of chewing about anything. Sometimes it
s cute to see them chew but most of the time it s not the cuteness that s overloaded. When they chew
or bite your laptop charger or your favorite sports shoes you are not in the state of admiring the
cuteness. Instead, you will be out of your mind with frustration. No matter what, you should never hit
or scold your pets. There are lots of reasons why dogs chew, one reason might be you. Think about it,
dogs don t do things just for seek. There is always a reason behind on every act they do. They might
be conveying a message to you. So, first understand the message they are trying to tell. You should
never punish them, it s not their fault it s their habits and a way of expressing their feeling. I have

they cannot travel the world like we do. Examine a little human baby for some time, you will see that

strong and sharp smelling sense to detect things, only detecting does not let them understand or
recognize the things. Chewing helps understand the taste, its hardness, and what exactly it is. So, if
you see your puppy on a park chewing things, don t worry. They probably are exploring the world

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Indium-Tin Oxide
Indium tin oxide (ITO) is a well known n type transparent semiconducting oxide material. ITO is an
In2O3 based material that has been doped with Sn to improve the electrical conductivity. Here tin acts
as a cationic dopant in the In2O3 lattice and substitute on the indium sites to bind with the interstitial
oxygen. Due to its high optical transmittance in the visible region, high electrical conductivity and
wide band gap ( 3.5 eV), it has been widely applied in various optoelectronic devices such as
photovoltaic cells [1], liquid crystal displays [2] and gas sensors [3]. The ITO thin films commonly

Types of Customs Duty
In customs, a tax levied by government on the import, export or consumption of goods. Usually a tax
imposed on imports by the customs authority of a country. Types of Customs Duty such as :
a) Export Duty
Export duty is a duty imposed on export tariff. Customs will collect the duty when the goods are about
to leave the country. For example, Adabi want to export goods to Indonesia, so customs will imposed
duty on Adabi. So, when our company want to export the product to South Korea, Customs in
Malaysia will imposed export duty on the goods.

Pursuing A Career In Pediatric Oncology
I plan to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically in pediatric oncology. I would like to have

children and adults battling diseases in places where the access to Western medicine is limited due to
cost or location before starting my work in an American hospital. I think that would offer an amazing
opportunity to not only explore different cultures, but also be able to do hands on work with diseases
in ways that are different than what we do here in America. After training abroad, I would like to

Health Care For The Nigerian Society
In many parts of the Nigerian society, the question of cost, willingness to pay and ability to pay are
important determinants of access to and utilization of health care systems (Omololu, Okunola, Salami,
2012). The Nigerian people realized that many of their countries health care facilities were lacking the
necessary resources and supplies to function sufficiently and effectively, despite the adoption of the
core tenets of comprehensive primary health care in the 1980s. They needed to not only make health
care delivery affordable but also accessible to their people. In response to this need, health Ministers

the resources available for health care and improve efficiency as well as equity to health care. The user

of user fees is quite variable and can include any combination of drug costs, medical material costs,
entrance fees, and consultation fees. With the user fee implementation out of pocket costs varied for
the type of health care service rendered. For ante natal care (ANC) services, patients were required to
pay out of pocket for their cards, laboratory investigations and drugs (Uzochukwu, et al., 2004). For
immunization such as the oral polio vaccine (OPV1) and measles vaccine, there was no out of pocket

Existing laws in the states that permit physician assisted suicide require that patients have a terminal
illness (including Alzheimer s, Parkinson s, heart disease, cancer, and many other debilitating
diseases). You must be of sound mind (competent to make decisions), and be expected to die within
six months of submitting your request. (Soo Borson is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral
sciences and psychosocial and community health nursing at the University of Washington.)
C. The specific method in each state varies, but mainly involves a prescription from a licensed
physician approved by the state in which the patient is a resident.
PAS is very different than euthanasia because it is centralized around choice.
In PAS, the patient must self administer the medications; the assisted portion attributes to a physician
providing the medications, but the patient decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication.
Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the patient s life.
Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN).
Two of the costly effects of limiting this option is lack of respect for autonomy and refusing to grant
death upon those that wish for it.

How Do Political And Social Standards Influence US...
2. It is very difficult for political and social goals to not influence US accounting standard setting.
According to Solomons (1978, p. 65) quoting Charles Horngren, the setting of accounting standards is
as much a product of political action as of flawless logic or empirical findings. Why? Because the
setting of standards is a social decision. Standards place restrictions on behavior; therefore, they must
be accepted by the affected parties...getting acceptance is an exceedingly complicated process that
requires skillful marketing in a political arena. When a person or group of people see an issue that they
feel needs to be addressed, they are going to want it handled in the way most desirable to them and

Car Prowls
After taking a look at all the data for the past and more current information I have noticed an increase
in car prowls in northeast Portland. This includes the area from I 205, Airport Way to 122nd and
including Sandy Blvd and Marine Drive. Gathering information on the statistics of this location it
appears that larceny and motor vehicle theft are the most commons types of property crimes in this
area. I personally know this location and is mostly made up of business complexes, poor

areas especially at night. During the day this location is very busy and a lot of people are in this area,

This is also the case in this Portland location and the focus should be on the location and the victims
because as they discussed in Texas if they arrested on offender another will take its place, it would not
be very effective. After looking at the PSU crime data I have noticed that car prowls occurs throughout
the year, overall declining in Portland overall, but in the area between 122nd Ave and I 205 around
Airport Way based on the heat map from 1995 to 2013 car prowls have increased or well above
average at this location(PSU, 2017). Also overall these crimes occurred after dark mostly every day
between 6pm to 2am(PSU, 2017). Focusing on victims would also be important even though we don t
have any data in Portland about victims, in the Texas model they identified that were part of the
problem because they left cars unlocked, left windows open and often left valuables in plain site
where offenders could see inside. This could also be applied to Portland because if offenders don t see
anything of value worth while in your car and if it s secure they would be less likely to break into that
car.
In response to this problem the Texas Police Department first focused on the victim side of the Crime
Triangle. In an effort to educate and make it aware to the victims that they are possible targets. What

The Old Testament Law And The Gospel
Church leaders have sought to define the relationship between the Old Testament Law and the Gospel,
while seeking to determine the applicability of Old Testament laws for Christian believers.
Unfortunately, a consensus among modern theologians remains unattainable, producing a spectrum of
views on the subject. Contention primarily arises over obedience to customary laws, principally the
requirement for Christians to observe the Sabbath. While brevity excludes a thorough examination of
the subject, this essay will laconically detail the relationship between the law and the Christian
believer, arguing (1) the Mosaic Law cannot be divided and categorized as some have suggested, and
(2) adherence to the Mosaic Law is not an obligation for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the Ten Commandments (Exod. 20:1 17) show an intermingling of moral laws (you shall not
murder) and ceremonial laws (remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy). Second, the New
Testament suggests continuity within the law (Gal. 5:3; James 2:10; Matt. 5:18), seemingly excluding
the possibility of division. Addressing this issue, theologian Douglas J. Moo concludes, ...in general, it
is notoriously difficult to know from the Old Testament itself which commandments should be placed
in the category of moral and therefore eternally binding in the form in which they were first given.
Jews in Jesus and Paul s day certainly did not divide up the law into categories; on the contrary, there
was a strong insistence that the law was a unity and could not be obeyed in parts. These considerations
suggest it is unreasonable to divide the Mosaic Law into categories, allowing for the abrogation of
some sections, while maintaining the validity and obligatory nature of others. Proponents suggesting
Christians must conform to moral laws, and some ceremonial laws (i.e. the Sabbath, but not sacrificial
offerings), must address these points and present a Scriptural basis for the division and categorization
of the Mosaic Law, before making the rest of their case.
Adherence to the Mosaic Law is not an Obligation for Christians Establishing that there is no basis for
arbitrary division and

Executive Cash Compensation As The Proxy For The Ceo s...
Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion (Rogers,
2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are more likely to
become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid risk. I measure cash
compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural logarithm bonus. Following
existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002) the sensitivity of CEO wealth to
stock price is also included as an additional control variables for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking
incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive relationship between firm size and CEO risk
taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical
studies show that growth opportunities are also expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking
incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier
compensation studies, the market to book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities.
In contrast, leverage is expected to be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers,
2002). Financial leverage increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is
lesser need to provide the CEO with a risk taking incentive. I utilize the debt ration (book value of
debt to book value of assets) as a proxy for leverage (Rogers, 2002). Similar to

Group Development And Interaction Theory Essay
Group Development and Interaction Theory
Within the business setting, the shift from yesterday s singular culture to today s team culture has
brought about a new era of learning, development, and innovation. However, this shift has also
brought with it a certain amount of dissatisfaction, conflict, and confusion. This paper will focus on
the Tuckman Theory, and discuss how Tuckman s five stages of group development and interaction
applies to the work environment and leadership effectiveness.
The Tuckman Theory
Tuckman s theory maintains that groups enter four foreseeable and elementary stages of development,
and each of these stages contain both task and maintenance functions. These stages are Forming,
Storming, Norming, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storming. When important issues are beginning to be addressed within the team, the patience of some
team members may begin to break down and confrontations begin. The majority of these initial
confrontations may relate to the work of the group itself, or to roles and responsibilities within the
group. However, most of these minor confrontations will be taken lightly or dealt with promptly.
In order to progress to the next stage, group members must move from a testing and proving mentality
to a problem solving mentality. Hopefully, everyone will agree that the most important thing is to
finish the work and agree to work together to solve their problems. It is important to note that to move
on to the next stage group members need the ability to listen to each other (MacLeod, 2002).
Some team members may welcome these minor squabbles in that they can reveal the real issues
among the team, while others will wish they were still in the comfortable confines of forming. This is
also the stage when team members will look for ways to avoid or mediate conflicts more effectively.
Norming. With conflicts resolved, and the rules of the team established, and the scope of the teams
responsibilities and tasks clear and agreed upon, the team can get to the business at hand. Team
members are once again comfortable with each other as well as his/her skills, knowledge, and
abilities. These feelings

By displaying similar looking people on the photo spread you could ensure that the witness is
choosing the correct one. If the officer does not have a suspect, she may show witnesses a mug book,
beat book, or other compilation of photographs. These usually have so many photographs in them that
suggestiveness is rarely an issue. (Module 2, 2015) The photo spread should also display 6 8 photos
when trying to identify just one suspect. Also when trying to display the photo spread, the people
shown in the photos that are selected must be of the same race, age, general physical characteristics,
and sex as the suspect. Hair style, facial hair, and other facial features should be similar. If the suspect
has close cropped hair, it would be improper to include fill ins with bushy hair. The background and
tone of the photographs should also be similar to preclude any particular photograph standing out. It is
not necessary for the images in the spread to be clones, but the photos should be similar enough in
appearance to ensure a reliable identification. (Module 2, 2015) When compiling or displaying a photo
spread to a witness the officer should use the NIJ Guidelines as their standard. The National Institute
of Justice wrote Eyewitness Evidence: A Guide for Law Enforcement. This set of guidelines is an
important tool for refining investigative practices dealing with this evidence as we continue our search

Empowerment Is The Decision Making Process Essay
Introduction The empowerment in query can describe to the employees, the front line managers and
supervisors, or to the association as a being, the empowered organization. These alternative revolve
around unitary eloquence for integrating the interests and efforts of both employers and employees
with the impersonation that low level employees can contribute to management decisions and in so
doing improve the performance of the organization. In the past decade, business practitioners and
organizational researchers have attached concept of empowerment in the workplace. Even, until at
present, the literature has lacked unity on a definition or operationalization of empowerment in the
workplace. In summary, empowerment is the management behavior where managers share with the
rest of the organizational members their impact in the decision making procedure that is to say, the
cooperation in the decision making process is not whereabouts to the position with formal capacity

Purity and purifications of solids using melting points.
Tatyana Aleksandrova
CHE 337, Section 001
Department of Chemistry
Portland State University, Portland, OR
Abstract
Melting points of Naphthalene/Biphenyl mixtures differing in their percent compositions were
observed and plotted on a graph that indicated eutectic point of the mixture to be at 50 mole percent
Naphthalene. Using melting point technique to identify mixture Unknown H was determined to be 3
ethoxy 4 hydroxybenzaldehyde.
Introduction
Melting point is a technique used by chemists to identify unknown substance. Compounds depending
on their chemical structure have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the fact that mixture with 3 Ethoxy 4 hydroxybenzaldehyde had relatively close range of
(76.1 °C 78.1 °C) with 2.5 °C difference in ending values, which can be considered as a sharp point,
unknown H is 3 Ethoxy 4 hydroxybenzaldehyde.
Conclusion
Melting point is a technique used to identify pure substances by observing ranges of melting points as
it was done in mixtures of Naphthalene and Biphenyl. Eutectic point, however, should be kept in my
when testing for pure substances, for eutectic compositions can mislead results of the test if nothing
else is considered. Biphenyl s on this technique unknown H tested was determined to be 3 Ethoxy 4
hydroxybenzaldehyde based on its sharp MT.
Questions:
1. a) Examples in which a pure substance could give a broad melting range:
5 mole percent of Naphthalene to 95 mole percent of Biphenyl (which is good percentage of purity)
has a broad melting range.
b) Example of a situation in which an impure substance melts sharply:
Mixture of 60 mole percent of Naphthalene and 40 mole percent of Biphenyl. Mixture has eutectic
composition.
2. Eutectic mixture mixture in which proportions of its constituents allow a uniform melting point for
that mixture. MP range is sharp, despite the fact that mixture is impure.
3. Effects of the impurities on melting behavior of benzoic acid: MP Benzoic Acid 122 °C a.

Essay On Surgical Site Infections
SURGICAL SITE INFECTION PREVENTION GUIDELINE
Surgical site infections (SSIs) impose a significant economic and clinical burden. SSI is a common but
severe operative complication that happens to about 2 5% of patients undergoing surgery (Anderson et
al., 2014). The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), through the help of various
organizations, has issued special guidelines to prevent SSIs. In this paper the author aims to (a)
discuss SSI, a health care problem in pediatric perioperative patients, and evaluate the current policy
on its prevention; (b) use the population, intervention, comparison, outcomes (PICO) format to answer
a clinical question related to SSI; (c) evaluate the author s chosen practice guideline with ... Show

The intervention will not include pediatric patients who will have an emergency surgery (i.e. Level 1
Trauma, potential for loss of limb/senses/function), these cases will not allow enough time to screen
and treat nasal carriers before surgery.
Intervention
SHEA released an updated guideline on SSI prevention that includes several recommendations not
found on CHOG s policy. The first recommended intervention is to screen and identify all surgical
patients who are S. aureus nasal carriers. According to Barnard (2002), studies have shown that most
SSIs are caused by the patient s endogenous infection (own bacterial flora) of which, 20% is caused
by S. aureus strain. According to Van Rijen, Bode, Baak, Kluytmans, and Vos (2012), about 20 50% of
the population are S. aureus nasal carriers. Moreover, Van Rijen et al. (2012) adds that S. aureus nasal
carriage is now considered a predisposing factor for future infections in different patient populations
(i.e. dialysis patients, patients with intravascular devices, surgical patients, and patients who are
admitted to the intensive care unit [ICU]).
The second recommended intervention is to decolonize patients who are confirmed S. aureus nasal
carriers by treating them with intranasal mupirocin, an antimicrobial drug, and bathing with
chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) soap, an

A Comparison Of Christianity And Christianity
We as homo sapiens refer to religion or beliefs as a way to cope with issues and a pathway to God.
Which is why their are numerous unique yet similar religions out there, such as; Judaism, Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism and last but certainly not least Christianity. Each religion has quite the number
of followers, but Christianity has the most followers or believers. Christianity is practiced world wide
by 2.1 billion people, and are found most in the United States of America. They can also be found in
Indonesia, Central Asia or even in the Middle East.
The word Christian is actually Greek, which means followers of Christ. Christianity began with the
story of the Jesus of Nazareth. A prophet who is believed to be the son of God and his faithful
disciples 2000 years ago in Israel. It was during the Roman rule and Jesus Christ was a teacher. He
walked amongst the people and taught them about God and his new covenant, healed the sick and
tried to explain to them that sin would be the end of mankind. He caught the attention of plebeian
members, but rose suspicions amongst upper class people and the religion leaders. They saw him as
treacherous because he was making changes to already placed Roman laws. They warned the governor
of him but despite the warnings, the roman governor, Pontius Pilate saw nothing wrong with the man
and wanted to let him roam free and do as he pleased. Pontius was weak, in the end, he gave into peer
pressure and sentence Jesus Christ to death. Gave him

Holidays
Moreover, the part time officers will receive the same number of public holidays as the full time
officer. Although, the hours and pay for each will be made on a pro data basis to hours normally
worked. The part time regulations also introduce for those workers free days; these are days when an
officer is not on normal duty day, rest day or public holiday. The free day should be clearly identified
on the shift pattern workings to ensure that payments are made correctly.
Temporary Salary payments will be made to officers working on a part time and job share basis where
they work the equivalent of the 14 day qualifying period by completing full shifts totalling 112 hours.

Pension Implications Officers should seek advice on individual pension implications from the Force

Normal Pension Age for police officers will increase to age 60, compared to a Normal Pension Age

Charles Absolute Monarchy
King Charles I of England was the first king in England that tried to have an absolute monarchy. An
absolute monarchy is different than the constitutional monarchy of the kings and queens before him
were trying to have. An absolute monarchy is where the monarch has all the power and there are no
nobles or anyone interfering with the king s rule; a constitutional monarchy is where the king or queen
acts as the Head of State, and the Parliament makes the laws, not the monarch. King Charles s strong

King Charles was trying to spread a new prayer book in countryside of Scotland, even though
Scotland was heavily neglected in Charles s early rule. The prayer book was met with much
resistance; Charles already claimed all land in Scotland, including the Church s land, was subject to
being taken away. Met with high resistance in Scotland, King Charles tried to resolve the conflict by
swordpoint and had to call Parliament because his side of the conflict was not ready to go to battle,
because he had a small amount of money. Almost at the same time, military rebellion happened in
Ireland in November 1641, and Charles attempted to arrest five Parliament legislators. Civil war
erupted in 1642, and Charles was defeated in 1646. Scottish forces handed the king back to
Parliament, and King Charles was then tried for treason in 1648. King Charles I got a trial and was
executed for treason against England.
An argument for Charles could state that none of this was Charles s fault because the civilians were
simply outrageous. However, it is commonly known that the predecessor of Charles I, Elizabeth I, was
beloved by all her subjects because she treated them fairly and gave Parliament power. Charles,
however, thought it was him and only him who should rule England. This is what caused his downfall:
his inability to listen to other members of the government. His plans to create an absolute monarchy
ultimately backfired because of his unfair treatment of his subjects and inability to manage financial

The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this
movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and
sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that
capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in
1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew
out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid
1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley
brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their
records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical style by singing
in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in Memphis, Tennessee. Not

Wildlife Animals And Indigenous People
Both wildlife animals and Indigenous people resided in Canada long before European colonization
took place, and both have suffered from these invaders oppressive practices as a result of the dispute
over territory. Because of this, many newcomers to Canada has this preconceived notion that the place
is only associated with vast wilderness landscapes and that wildlife is constitutive of Canadianness
(Francis 1997). This is played out in many Canadian films which portray stereotypical images of the
country. In particular, this essay will highlight Indigenous people and wildlife interaction with urban
spaces and the wilderness in The Wolfpen Principle (1974) and North of 60 (Southern Comfort), while
also exploring the conflict between urban dwellers and their environment. Most Canadian filmmakers
continuously depict the place as a wilderness area, filled with wild animals and Indigenous people.
This idea is socially constructed and is normalize to reinforce the idea that certain people and animals
should belong or excluded from nature and urban spaces. In parks, wolf tourism is usually portrayed
as a wilderness experience where humans dominate animals and nature. Yet, according to Kellert s
(1985) research, associating the wilderness with wolves has increased their stigmatization, thus
resulting conflicts over who belongs where. If the wolves are not exterminated, they are instead taken
from their natural environment and moved to an altered landscape where they have

The World Cup came to an end last week after a tumultuous month of loud fanfare and fine football.

In fact, one can cull out many different lessons from the way South Africa delivered a faultless, snafu

Does this mean that in this environment, winners and losers can be foretold by only octopuses and
parrots? Is success a random walk? The answer is that it need not be so. A study of the teams and the
matches played yields precious lessons in management. These are briefly discussed below.
Leadership is the biggest ingredient to success. Coaches and captains who could not effectively handle
dissent and provide inspiration and focus saw their teams tumble to the bottom.
Leadership and stardom are not necessarily the same. Top billed coaches and star players ate humble
pie during this tournament. Companies too need to take due care to ensure that the CEOs they select
can indeed lead.
Team work is a hallmark of winning teams. Teams with some selfish players fared poorly. Companies
should be quick in correcting selfishness among their teams. They should place as much of a premium
on this attribute as on individual excellence.
Globalisation is slowly levelling the playing field by making the tools to compete more accessible to
all. This has made the competition fiercer and more strenuous. Fitness is one of the few differentiators
left. Companies should continuously reengineer their internal processes to keep their delivery systems
effective and efficient.
And, lastly, quite a few matches were lost due to a momentary lapse in concentration or carelessness.
In other words, some teams blinked. This

Privacy In George Orwell s 1984, The National Social Agency
As Marlon Brando once said, Privacy is not something that I m merely entitled to , it s an absolute

the National Social Agency (NSA) spies on us through our phones, computers, cameras, etc. The

that issue, however, it failed to predict that today s society willingly contributes to the NSA

  • 2. Allen Stanford s Ponzi Scheme Allen Stanford s Ponzi scheme is considered to be one of the top grossing Ponzi schemes that have been at the forefront of white collar crime. As stated on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission website, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to earlier investors by the contribution of new investors that promises to generate high returns with little or no risk (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their faith in the offender out of trust or any other personal reason and in the case of Allen Stanford it is no different. Allen Stanford used his status that he had built throughout his life to take advantage of many people through the use of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an empire by defrauding individuals out of what has been reported up to $6 billion and some sources have estimated up to $8 billion. This paper will discuss how Mr. Stanford went from king to prison in a 20 year span. Allen Stanford was born in Mexia, Texas to a lower middle class family. Stanford s parents eventually divorced and he moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Tim Elfrink of the Broward/Palm Beach New Times stated that people who knew Allen Stanford at a young age said that he was always out to make a quick buck and he was well known for this. Some of his first ventures into making money were selling firewood (Elfrink, 2009). Bob Wright, an acquaintance of Stanford s from back in Mexia, Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Memory Retention Research Paper Research: Memory retention is essential to all human beings. It is a fundamental function of our brain: whether it be memorizing people s names, memorizing math formulas, or memorizing the location of the car keys. We all recognize the importance of memorization and we all seek ways to improve our memory retention skills. Many different parts of the brain control a person s memory, but the most important part is the frontal lobe. It controls working and short term memory. Due to the processes of stimulus of the sensory memory which transmits to the frontal lobe, people can, on average, recall 7 items after looking at them for 15 seconds. Neuroscience journal In the frontal lobe, encoding, storage, and retrieval occur in an effort to not lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beneficial activity of walking also causes an improvement of creativity according to Dr. Oppezzo of Stanford University. Dr. Oppezzo created a matched pair experimental design using undergraduate student volunteers as subjects that tests the variable of walking versus sitting and inside walking versus outside walking. he conducted 3 experiments in which she compared tests of GAU (creative divergent thinking) and CRA (convergent thinking) using the variables of walking on a treadmill, sitting, walking then sitting, sitting then walking, sitting twice, and outdoors walking. For her last test she compared tests of creative analogy generation with the variables of sitting inside, walking on a treadmill inside, walking outside, and rolling on a wheelchair outside. In all of her findings, she saw an increase in creativity following or during the physical activity of walking. The increase in creativity she found was also independent of location of the test, meaning that being outdoors did not help or hinder memory retention skills when compared to results from indoors. This suggests that some physical aspect of walking stimulates the brain s memory system. But, more research needs to be conducted to understand the biological cause of this effect, which Dr. Oppezzo calls acute. She is unable to provide any scientifically based answers to the results of her experiment because it is still unclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle Essay The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle The three periods of development I will cover in this piece of coursework are the Norman Period, the Medieval Period and the Elizabethan Period. Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology. Norman Period 1070 1130: The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Fitzosbern proceeded to convert the partly existing burgh into a wooden motte and bailey castle by firstly constructing a campaign fort in one corner, as stated in The Carisbrooke Castle Official Guide Book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be built quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges. The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too. Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around 1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers. The earthworks were adorned with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Common Stereotypes Of Neanderthals Common portrayals of Neanderthals to the public often include images that depict them as your typical cavemen, with clubs for weapons and animal fur for clothes, and faces that resemble chimpanzees. The stereotype that cavemen are devoid of common knowledge is often paired up with these group of people; however, a study published this August by a team of archaeologists suggest that the ability to procure tar and use it as a primitive form of adhesive to make complex tools, proves their cleverness and resourcefulness that is often overlooked. In The New York Times, the article summarizes the study s findings by demonstrating several methods the Neanderthals could have used to make tar. • 6. Dian Fossey s Gorillas in the Mist Essay Dian Fossey s Gorillas in the Mist Gorillas in the Mist is one of the most emotional and inspiring books I have ever read. This autobiography is by, in my eyes, the most admired researcher ever to walk the face of this earth. There is no woman more dedicated to anything than Dian Fossey. This woman stood her ground through thick and thin to protect the lives of one of the most threatened species today. Dian Fossey was a normal young lady that had the dream of taking part in the research of gorillas in Africa. She attended a conference one evening that was given by Dr. Louis Leaky. Dr. Leaky talked about the enormous problem of keeping the gorillas that roamed the Virunga Mountains of Africa from going extinct. He explained the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They drove deep into the Congo forest until they stood under the steep mountainside of the Virunga Mountains. Fossey, Sambeggar and the rest of the helpers unloaded the car and began the hours of walking necessary to reach their destination. Finally, they reached an opening in the woods where a small, worn down shack stood. They unpacked the bags of supplies and clothes and settled in. At first chance, Sambeggar and Fossey took off into the mountains in search of the gorillas. After five hours of walking, Fossey finally asked Sambeggar where he was taking them. Sambeggar told her that he was not a gorilla tracker, for he only tracked gazelle, antelope, and elephant. For six months, no gorilla had been seen by any of the men. Finally, after six months of seeing nothing, Sambeggar and Fossey found a group of gorillas nosing their ways through the thick underlay of the forest. As Fossey stares in amazement at the beautiful group of gorillas, the lead silver back spots them. He begins to charge at them. Fossey and Sambeggar retreat through the woods and escape the huge silver back . A few days passed and Fossey continued to see the gorillas. But, with the force of the civil war troops, Fossey is forced to move to the other side of the mountain range. Here, she located a different group of gorillas. She named the group, Number Four. • 7. Israeli Security Concerns Abstract The following essay takes a realist approach to the issue of Israel s refugee problem. The essay addresses the security issue of the Right of Return where more than 4 million Palestinian termed refugees clamor to return to their homes that they were displaced from during the 1948 war. Whilst Palestinians demand the right to return to their Israeli located homes under the right of United Nations General Assembly article 11 of Resolution 194, Israelis fear the displacement of their state by a huge and exponential number of Palestinian refugees returning. The essay summarizes historical points that constitute the problem. Analysis of the problems shows that the traditional definition of refugee has been corrupted to suit UNRWA agenda where the refugee number has grown and will continue to grow to absurd lengths. One policy therefore recommends that the UN amend this definition to reflect a more solid reality. An alternate policy recommends that the UNRWA be replaced by its more affective predecessor, the UNHRCA. The essay, too, recommends that America work in amending this change since by so doing America will be assisting her own terrorist problem. Sir Christopher Wren s design of St. Paul s Cathedral, is not only the largest cathedral in England, but one of the most significant stylistically architectural combinations into English Architecture. After the Great Fire, parts of the remains of Old St Paul s were patched up as a temporary cathedral. The structure, however, was in a very bad shape, and in May 1668, after a fall of the remains of the building materials fell; Wren was asked to submit proposals for a new cathedral. Wren s first proposal, The First Model , was quickly neglected, because it was said to be too modest. His second proposal was a mimic of the Greek cross. It was a classical style of the Italian Renaissance, it was centrally planned, and the main interior space was set beneath an enormous dome, and auxiliary spaces were located around the sides. But the clergy, who were only familiar with cathedrals whose designs, were Romanesque or Gothic, and were not familiar to classical architecture in his design, quickly through out the new design. His third design, The Warrant Design , was still classical architecture, but it was based on the criticisms of the Greek cross design. The plan was longitudinal, the nave and choir were bordered by lower aisles, and the towers and spire suggested the shape of medieval England. This design was approved by King Charles II, but Wren ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even the Ten Commandments (Exod. 20:1 17) show an intermingling of moral laws (you shall not murder) and ceremonial laws (remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy). Second, the New Testament suggests continuity within the law (Gal. 5:3; James 2:10; Matt. 5:18), seemingly excluding the possibility of division. Addressing this issue, theologian Douglas J. Moo concludes, ...in general, it is notoriously difficult to know from the Old Testament itself which commandments should be placed in the category of moral and therefore eternally binding in the form in which they were first given. Jews in Jesus and Paul s day certainly did not divide up the law into categories; on the contrary, there was a strong insistence that the law was a unity and could not be obeyed in parts. These considerations suggest it is unreasonable to divide the Mosaic Law into categories, allowing for the abrogation of some sections, while maintaining the validity and obligatory nature of others. Proponents suggesting Christians must conform to moral laws, and some ceremonial laws (i.e. the Sabbath, but not sacrificial offerings), must address these points and present a Scriptural basis for the division and categorization of the Mosaic Law, before making the rest of their case. Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion (Rogers, 2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are more likely to become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid risk. I measure cash compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural logarithm bonus. Following existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002) the sensitivity of CEO wealth to stock price is also included as an additional control variables for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive relationship between firm size and CEO risk taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical studies show that growth opportunities are also expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier compensation studies, the market to book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities. In contrast, leverage is expected to be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers, 2002). Financial leverage increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is lesser need to provide the CEO with a risk taking incentive. They saw him as treacherous because he was making changes to already placed Roman laws. An absolute monarchy is different than the constitutional monarchy of the kings and queens before him were trying to have. An absolute monarchy is where the monarch has all the power and there are no nobles or anyone interfering with the king s rule; a constitutional monarchy is where the king or queen acts as the Head of State, and the Parliament makes the laws, not the monarch. The prayer book was met with much resistance; Charles already claimed all land in Scotland, including the Church s land, was subject to being taken away. Met with high resistance in Scotland, King Charles tried to resolve the conflict by swordpoint and had to call Parliament because his side of the conflict was not ready to go to battle, because he had a small amount of money. Almost at the same time, military rebellion happened in Ireland in November 1641, and Charles attempted to arrest five Parliament legislators. Civil war erupted in 1642, and Charles was defeated in 1646. Scottish forces handed the king back to Parliament, and King Charles was then tried for treason in 1648. King Charles I got a trial and was executed for treason against England. An argument for Charles could state that none of this was Charles s fault because the civilians were simply outrageous. However, it is commonly known that the predecessor of Charles I, Elizabeth I, was beloved by all her subjects because she treated them fairly and gave Parliament power. Charles, however, thought it was him and only him who should rule England. This is what caused his downfall: his inability to listen to other members of the government. • 35. The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers. The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in 1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957. Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid 1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their records. • 36. Wildlife Animals And Indigenous People Both wildlife animals and Indigenous people resided in Canada long before European colonization took place, and both have suffered from these invaders oppressive practices as a result of the dispute over territory. Because of this, many newcomers to Canada has this preconceived notion that the place is only associated with vast wilderness landscapes and that wildlife is constitutive of Canadianness (Francis 1997). This is played out in many Canadian films which portray stereotypical images of the country. In particular, this essay will highlight Indigenous people and wildlife interaction with urban spaces and the wilderness in The Wolfpen Principle (1974) and North of 60 (Southern Comfort), while also exploring the conflict between urban dwellers and their environment. Most Canadian filmmakers continuously depict the place as a wilderness area, filled with wild animals and Indigenous people. This idea is socially constructed and is normalize to reinforce the idea that certain people and animals should belong or excluded from nature and urban spaces. In parks, wolf tourism is usually portrayed as a wilderness experience where humans dominate animals and nature. Yet, according to Kellert s (1985) research, associating the wilderness with wolves has increased their stigmatization, thus resulting conflicts over who belongs where. The environmental assessment panel concluded this knowledge gap was compounded by Nalcor s decision to exclude Lake Melville from the environmental assessment from detailed study. Nalcor based this decision on their prediction that there would be no measurable impacts downstream. (Make Muskrat Right, 2016). Lake Melville: Avativut, Kanuittailinnivut research program was initiated by the Nunatsiavut Government, the Labrador Inuit self government body to do more research on the downstream effects. An independent team of scientific experts from Canada and the USA carried out research to fully understand the effects of how Muskrat Falls would impact Lake Melville s eco system and the communities that depend on it for a living and also to anticipate the potentially constituting impacts of changing climate. Within the findings is evidence from Harvard University scientists of detrimental impacts on methyl mercury concentration in the Lake Melville ecosystem and increased Inuit exposure to methyl mercury from Muskrat Falls. Does this mean that in this environment, winners and losers can be foretold by only octopuses and parrots? Is success a random walk? The answer is that it need not be so. A study of the teams and the matches played yields precious lessons in management. These are briefly discussed below. Leadership is the biggest ingredient to success. Coaches and captains who could not effectively handle dissent and provide inspiration and focus saw their teams tumble to the bottom. Leadership and stardom are not necessarily the same. Top billed coaches and star players ate humble pie during this tournament. Companies too need to take due care to ensure that the CEOs they select can indeed lead. Team work is a hallmark of winning teams. Teams with some selfish players fared poorly. Companies should be quick in correcting selfishness among their teams. They should place as much of a premium on this attribute as on individual excellence. Globalisation is slowly levelling the playing field by making the tools to compete more accessible to all. This has made the competition fiercer and more strenuous. Fitness is one of the few differentiators left. Companies should continuously reengineer their internal processes to keep their delivery systems effective and efficient. And, lastly, quite a few matches were lost due to a momentary lapse in concentration or carelessness. In other words, some teams blinked. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
