Unilateral Training Research Paper
Unilateral versus Bilateral Training in Stroke Rehabilitation of Persons with Upper Limb
Hemiparesis
Celeste James, Lindsay Konal, and Jenell Nadolski
OT 6230
March 1, 2017
Abstract
Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post stroke
functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke,
researchers have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and
the benefits of each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were
studied, analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two
and their effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However,... Show more

Mudie Matyas (2000) claim that long term potentiation may result from initial bilateral
rehabilitation, which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing
pattern is established, simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb s
hemisphere via crossed corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong
neuronal inputs to the less affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more
affected hemisphere. Through this association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to
become potentiated, thereby increasing supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie Matyas,

Importance Of Credibility In Public Speaking
Ordinarily, to establish credibility, public speakers should earn the audience s trust and respect by
presenting themselves as authorities on the topic that they are speaking. Consequently, the speaker
should not rely on the content of their speech to gain credibility with the audience. Self presentation
is important too since the public will start judging the communicator before the speaker begins to
communicate verbally. Establish the authority to the public by speaking about the topic by stating
the source of where the knowledge: experience, training, or research came into perspective. When
speaking to a skeptical audience, begin by finding common ground. Acknowledge the appeal of the
opposing views before deciding to create a strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When in doubt, choose the side of formal professional attire. Second, look at the public because it
shows sincerity. Nevertheless, the speakers who make eye contact with the audience appear more
open, trustworthy, and confident. Notwithstanding, if reading from a script or consulting cue cards,
look up frequently to maintain the connection with the audience. Third, the necessary step to
establish credibility is to speak loudly, clearly, and confidently. Confidence has become known to
cause contagious if a person has confidence, the audience will catch it quickly.
Fourth, tell your audience about your credentials because trust has become contagious to fans will
begin to believe more readily if an individual can prove that others value the person s expertise.
Credentials include certifications, relative degrees, recommendations, testimonials, volunteering
experience, work experience, and informally, other types of personal experience. Fifth, reveal a
personal connection to the chosen topic. Answer questions for the audience what has become at
stake for the speaker? How has the subject affected the speaker s individual s life? If it is
appropriate, then share a personal anecdote illustrates to establish a relationship to the topic. Lastly,

The Great Conroversy of the Nazca Lines
Without a doubt the architecture and the grandeur of Pumapunku is awe inspiring, but just because
something might not be easily explained at first glance does not mean that an explanation does not
exist, buried in the history. Meanwhile nearly 500 miles to the Northeast of Tiwanaku lays another
site of great controversy and is what many ancient alien theorists call the extraterrestrial airport.
Located deep in the NazcaDessert in southern Peru lies one of the most identifiable archeological
sites when it comes to evidence for aliens being among in the past; the Nazca Lines. Ever since they
became known in the 1920s, when a commercial airplane flew over the dessert, these mysterious
encryptions have puzzled scientists from anthropology to archeology, and just about anyone else
fascinated by the lines and just what they mean or how they got there. Since they were discovered
scientists have tried to explain them as roads, an ancient calendar system, and landing places for
alien space ships. Leading alien theorist Erich Von Daniken theorizes in his book Chariots of the
Gods? that the complexity and interworking s of the glyphs were beyond the capability of the
Nazca cultureand that their sole purpose was to act as landing strips and that the shapes of animals
were used as reference points. Although it might be easy for some people to accept these theories
as the only plausible explanation, because what else could the Nazca Lines be. However, just

Importance Of Purification Of Water Essay
Purification of Water to Save Humanity Thought water is the other name of life, more than billion
people around the world cannot drink clean water. Some of them used to walk for milieus just to
fetch water for themselves and their families. In some places where the supply of water is enough,
it is found most of the time the water is polluted with virus and bacteria which can form deadly
diseases. Not only in the undeveloped countries but also in developing countries water sources are
polluted sometimes. And there s another group that lacks access to abundant, safe, clean drinking
water: astronauts. As astronauts have to take things what they need and they have to reuse and
recycle every dewdrop of water. On the International Space Station, where U.S. Astronaut Scott
Kelly recently spent a year in orbit, specialized technology developed by NASA collects every
bit of moisture, including sweat and urine, and turns it into drinkable water Filtration is the only
solution. As all filters are not equal depending on the expenditure some of them can only drain
out dirt and low level bacteria which are harmful mostly for young children s as the water used
to carry a dangerous virus. Luckily the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
scientists come forward with their best water filtering technology. In 2000, Florida based Argon
ide was working with nanomaterials and discovered its Nanoceramic fibers had properties that
made them excellent as water filters. The main benefit to the nanofibers was their unusually
strong bio adhesively meaning particles, including viruses and bacteria, were easily attracted to
the fibers. When water passed through a filter woven of the fibers, these particles flocked to the
fibers and got stuck there, leaving virus and bacteria free water on the other side. NASA rewarded
the company. The Nanoceramic fibers produce an electropositive charge when water flows through
them. Many impurities carry a slight negative charge and are absorbed by the filter, explained Tom
Smokoff, founder of Water Pure Technologies. Some filters were designed by using membranes
with small pores so

Oedipus Judgement
Sophocles wrote a tragic play, Oedipus the King, in which the protagonist, Oedipus, discovers
his fate. Thebes, the area currently ruled by Oedipus, has fallen under a plague so Creon,
Oedipus brother in law, is sent to ask Apollo, a messenger for the Gods, for advice on how to
save Thebes. Oedipus discovers that to bring Thebes out of the plague he needs to find and
persecute the murderer of Laius, the former king of Thebes. Oedipussearches high and low for
anyone who might have information and finds a blind prophet, Tiresias, who claims Oedipus killed
Laius. However, Oedipus believes this cannot be true because Jocasta, Laius s former wife and now
Oedipus wife, was prophesied to have a son who would kill Laius and have sex with Jocasta....

About recognition, Aristotle writes, ...is a change from ignorance to knowledge... (672). In the
beginning of the play, Oedipus is ignorant and has no idea who the murderer of Laius is and
consequently works diligently to find the murderer. Oedipus implores the blind prophet,
Tiresias, for help first when he states, I beg you, grudge us nothing now....Rescue yourself, your
city, rescue me rescue everything infected by the dead. We are in your hands (351 357). Oedipus
is using guilt and begging to try to get help from the blind prophet, he is trying so hard because
he doesn t know the eventual consequences of his action. Another tactic Oedipus uses to
convince people to give him answers is torture which he uses on the Shepherd. Oedipus barks,
So, you won t talk willingly then you ll talk with pain (1266 1267). He then goes on to order
Twist his arms back quickly! (1269). After the physical torture and a threat of death, the
Shepherd tells Oedipus it was Jocasta who gave him the baby. Oedipus realizes he is the
murderer of Laius and goes on to claim I stand revealed at last cursed in birth, cursed in marriage,
cursed in the lives I cut down with these hands! (Lines 1309 1311). Now Oedipus is
knowledgeable of his actions and his fulfillment of the

Seasons In A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
In A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, the seasons are vital to the development
of several relationships. Seasons are first presented in the title. Each season offers a different
attitude. Summer is known for freedom and romance, where winter in contrast is shown with
themes of bitterness and death. The seasonof the play and the themes associated with it allow the
characters in the comedy to progress in their romantic relationships. The seasons heavily affect the
relationships of the inhabitants of the magical world. Fairy royalty Titania and Oberon, along with
their attendants see over the magical world. Oberon and Titania, being king and queen,
respectively, are in a fight over an Indian prince. Oberon desires the little... Show more content on

In the natural world there is strife among four lovers. The lovers include a couple, Hermia and
Lysander, a competitor for Hermia s love, Demetrius, and a friend of Hermia and a seeker
Demetrius s love, Helena. The four are affected by the fairies seasonal mix up as well as the
fairies interfering with the lover affairs by using a juice that causes the affected to pursue the next
thing... [they] look upon... with the soul of love (2.1.177, 180, 183). The love potion put on the
lovers causes confusion and conflict among the women. Hermia and Helena argue over the men,
who have both been unknowingly tainted with the love potion. This leads to arguments over their
friendship which was once so strong that the two were two seeming bodies but one heart as well
as their physical insecurities (3.2.212). The women are forcing their angers on to each other both
because they are angry at each other and because of the love potion confusion and the season
switch. Thomas C. Foster describes hard wired traits of winter, which could be the season summer
has been confused with by the fairies, as filled with resentment and dissatisfaction with things life
people (186). Towards the end of the comedy, the fight between Titania and Oberon was solved,
causing their negative effects in the physical world to subside and allow the seasons to stop their
dissension (2.1.116). Additionally, the fairies

In Zimbabwe we can see large pyramids; these large pyramids are all called the Great Zimbabwe

Operation Barbarossa
Did you know that over 830,000 Germans died during Operation Barbarossa? Operation
Barbarossa was the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union enacted by Hitler and carried out by Nazi
troops. But the Nazis were not the only ones who suffered colossal losses. The soviets had over
4,000,000 military casualties, but somehow, the U.S.S.R. defeated the Germans and was able to
shove them out of their land. This defeat definitely had a major effect on WWII s outcome due to
the massive Nazi force that was allotted to Operation Barbarossa and their failure to take command
of the U.S.S.R. The key points of Operation Barbarossa were who planned it, why they planned it,

His primary goals were to capture Moscow to boost morale, and then take control of the Baku Oil
Fields. After the U.S.S.R. would fall, many Nazi soldiers would be demilitarized and would be
brought back to Germany to help with a labor shortage and the Nazis would not have to worry
about oil shortages anymore due to the control of the Baku Oil fields. The strategy that was used
was The Three Prong Assault. One group would head for Leningrad, another would head for
Moscow, and another would attempt to conquer the Baku Oil fields. In the first days of the
assault, the Nazis bombed Soviet airfields, destroying one quarter of their aerial army and large
cities. The U.S.S.R. retaliated by presenting a patriotic speech to motivate Soviets, and mobilizing
its troops. In just one week, the Nazis had accomplished some rather large objectives.
One of the larger events in Operation Barbarossa was the Siege of Leningrad. Army Group North
(Nazi) had finally reached its primary goal; Leningrad. However, the Soviets were not willing to
give this city up, and were able to repel the Nazis and hold the city. The Nazis were not going to put
up with this nonsense, so they blockaded the city and tried to starve them out, along with constant
artillery fire and nonstop attempts to invade the city. The stubborn Russians did not surrender, held
them back, and finally pushed the pestering Nazis

Mirabal Heroines
Believing that there are things worth risking your life for is a quality that is well respected.
The Mirabal sisters are all considered heroines for their work against Trujillo. Three of them even
died for this cause. Minerva Mirabal is a heroine because of the way she stood up to
Trujillo. She is respected throughout the Dominican Republic. In every aspect of her life, she
worked against him for the good of her country. Her heroic life was especially shown by her
friendships, her desire to attend law school, and her work in the national underground.

women to attend law school. He agrees after she beats him while gambling. She gambled her life

Trujillo had found a way to foil her plans again by not allowing her to practice law. So she had a

Minerva s new plan consisted of joining the fight against Trujillo. MatГ© soon discovered, A

The Sports And Physical Activities Among Women
In today s day and age, males are known to be the strong, athletic, and independent type of people,
whereas females are known to be more of the obedient, quite, attractive side and the nurturers.
Society expects males and females to adopt, and fulfill these specific gender stereotypes and roles
that have been established over time. Whenever these gendernorms are violated, it is common for
labels to be given out such as, strong females being called lesbians, or butch automatically assuming
they are manly with no intentions of liking makeup or enjoying to dress up. Traditional gender
stereotypes and discrimination has remained consistent over the past centuries; and have been

People are bombarded with gender stereotypes and discrimination from the moment they were
born. Once a newborn s sex is revealed, they are immediately dressed in in either pink or blue,
given gifts of trucks and cars or dolls depending on their gender, and referred to as strong or
delicate. These types of actions are only the first of many gender stereotypes an individual will
encounter throughout their lifetime. Females are held accountable for being weak or feminine,
where as males are expected to demonstrate certain behaviors and characteristics that are masculine.
Traditionally, the female population has always been expected to do the cooking and cleaning,
wear dresses, raise the children, maintain a perfect body and still remain pure. Women are known
to be weaker then men, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Beginning at an early age, female s
participation in athletics would have smaller numbers, with less intensity, and for shorter time
spans than males. The female athlete is not only expected to be masculine, but she may place her
feminism in jeopardy by others in society (Marsh, 1986). Females are expected to live up to these
specific gender roles that are held by both men and women in society. The expectations of feminism
often result in women being guided away from sweating, aggressiveness, lifting weights, or

Miranda V Arizona
Miranda v. Arizona: Half a Century Later by: September 2nd, 2014 I. INTRODUCTION A.
Executive Summary In 1966, the U.S. Supreme Court deliberated the case Miranda v. Arizona the
most important aspect of due process and criminal procedure ever affecting law enforcement and
prosecutorial conduct of an investigation. The main issues in this case were: * The admissibility of
a defendant s statements if such statements were made while the defendant was held in police
custody or deprived of freedom of movement in a significant way; * What procedures were required
to guarantee the defendant s privilege against self incrimination according to the Fifth Amendment

In 1965, the U.S. Supreme Court was seeking one or more cases similar to Escobedo v. Illinois
to clarify their position, as its opinion in that case raised many issues regarding the safeguards
and extent of such decision. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote the majority s opinion and Justices
Clark, Stewart, White, and Harlan presented three separate opinions. In the Court s opinion of
this case, it discussed the legal basis for their decision, emphasizing the need for changes away
from the traditional rules of custodial interrogation. This landmark case in criminal procedure
was marked by great public criticism for the liberal stance shown by the U.S. Supreme Court. It
ensures defendant s rights to what many people regarded as opening the door to convicted
criminals to escape punishment through technicalities . III. PROFESSIONAL OPINION In
Miranda v. Arizona the prosecution focused on the defendant s history with law enforcement to
support their claim that Miranda s confession was offered knowingly. At the time, Escobedo was
the only similar case regarding defendant s rights and was specific about the right to counsel.
Meanwhile in Miranda s case, his main failing was being unaware of the consequences of
confessing to a crime while under pressure or coercion of the police. The decade of 1960 has been
known for its great civil unrest in the United States. The ACLU (American Civil Liberties

Aunt Jennifer s Tigers
By Adrienne Rich
Aunt Jennifer s tigers stride across a screen
Bright topaz denizens of a world of green.
They do not fear the men beneath the tree;
They pace in sleek chivalric certainty.
Aunt Jennifer s fingers fluttering through her wool
Find even the ivory needle hard to pull.
The massive weight of uncle s wedding band
Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer s hand.
When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie
Still ringed with ordeals she was mastered by
The tigers in the panel that she made

What does she intend to illustrate? How does the poem illustrate this point/s?
I believe she meant to illustrate a narrative of a woman, Aunt Jennifer, under the oppression of a
male. This is illustrated in the 2nd stanza when Rich describes Aunt Jennifer s hand as being too
heavy to pull the needle through the wool because of the massive weight of Uncle s wedding
band (7, 633). This massive weight is man s control over his wife and the wedding band is a
symbol of his control. This idea is also supported in the third stanza when Rich describes Aunt
Jennifer dead being still ringed with the ordeals she was mastered by (9 10, 633). Overall the
poem illustrates oppression by stating in the first stanza what she really desires and then
describing how she is oppressed and held back by the male in her life.
For a poem to coalesce, for a character or an action to take shape, there has to be an imaginative
transformation of reality which is no way passive...Moreover, if the imagination is to transcend and
transform experience it has to question, to challenge, to conceive of alternatives, perhaps to the
very life you are living at that moment. You have to be free to play around with the notion that day
might be night, love might be hate, nothing can be too sacred for the imagination to turn into its
opposite or to call experimentally by another name. For writing is

The Victory Song Of Devorah Essay
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROPHETS SEFER SHOFTIM Sefer Shoftim The Victory Song of
Devorah by Shani Berg I will be discussing the Victory Song of Devorah in the fifth chapter of
Sefer Shoftim. Not at all like Sefer Yehoshua, our book introduces an extremely unsympathetic
depiction of the general population of Israel, for it accuses them of inappropriate behavior against
G d, and afterward starkly portrays the results of the Divine displeasure which unavoidably follows.
Most likely the conditions were troublesome. The moderately short and grisly wars of triumph were
long over while the considerable and augmented assignment of settlement still posed a potential
threat before the general population, testing their physical strength as well as their good and
profound fiber too. Gradually, they cleared the scantily settled slope nation and built up themselves
in the more prolific and populated valleys, and wherever they were ceaselessly gone up against with
the unpropitious decision of either restricting their Canaanite adversaries with their polytheistic and
relativistic ways or else obliging or notwithstanding grasping them. A large portion of the tribes
generally picked the last mentioned. By giving reprieve to the Canaanites and to their ethically
degenerate courses Israel pursued calamity, annihilation and destruction. In any case, however the
general population strayed from God and were rebuffed appropriately, unfailingly they soon shouted

The Old Man And The Sea
Gustav Freytag, a famous German novelist and playwright, developed a well known structure
himself called Freytag s Pyramid or dramatic structure. Freytag s Pyramid is divided into five stages
the exposition, the rising action, climax, falling action, and the denouement. Each one of the stages
describe the different parts of novels and short stories. Ernest Hemingwayauthor of Hills Like
White Elephants and other works, such as, A Farewell to Arms and The Old Man and the Sea has
made many accomplishments throughout his writing career. His novel The Old Man and the Sea
won the Pulitzer Prizefor Fictionin 1953. Hemingway also received the Nobel Prize for literature
in 1954. Hemingway s works are great examples of stories that displays the five stages of fiction.
Hills Like White Elephants was published in 1927 in Hemingway s second collection of short
stories. Hills Like White Elephants is the story of two characters, the American and Jig, and
their conversation at a train station in a valley in Spain. The two lovers talk vaguely about an
operation and both have opposing views on it; Jig ends the conflict by giving in to the American
s request. Freytag s pyramid in Hills Like White Elephants combine to make an interesting tip of
the iceberg story. The exposition in of Hills like White Elephants describes a valley that runs along
the Ebro River in northern Spain. Two characters are revealed The American and the woman (Jig)

Analysis Of The Book The First P.f
History Even though the first P.F. Chang s opened in 1993, the story really began way back in
the 1960s. It started with a lady named Cecilia Chiang running a flourishing and wildly
successful Chinese restaurant named The Mandarin. In 1974, she opened a second location in
posh Beverly Hills, feeding celebrities the likes of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The celebration
we see in the media of celebrity chefs today really started with Cecelia Chang. She was indeed a
pioneer. That very same year, Cecilia returned to China for an extended trip. Her son, Philip, fresh
out of art school, struggled finding work as an artist. He quickly stepped in to run the restaurant. At
that time a restaurateur called Paul Fleming, based in Arizona, was running a successful restaurant
concept, spending time at his regular Chinese place in Los Angeles called Mandarette. Fleming
broke with the traditional Chinese restaurant format, and with his collaborator, Chef Philip Chiang,
devised a selectively limited menu that featured far fewer dishes than the menus of typical, full
service, Chinese restaurants. Incorporating an American steak house dining style and a formidable
selection of wines and cheeses, P.F. Chang s offers such items not offered in traditional Chinese
restaurants such as espresso and cappuccino. Despite displaying highly stylish dГ©cor in the
tradition of Ming and Tang Dynasties with many hand painted murals, P.F. Chang China Bistros are

Developing A Rationale And Process For Selecting Individuals
Developing a rationale and process for selecting individuals for a layoff is no easy task, and it is
fraught with legal and ethical pitfalls (Fallon and McConnell, 2007). Layoffs can result from a
wide variety of economic, societal, and technological change. Whenever possible, alternatives to
layoffs should be fully explored and considered. Alternatives to layoffs include force reductions
through attrition and eliminating any part time positions in favor of retaining full time employees.
Early retirement is also an option as many employees may be willing to leave the workforce
voluntarily with an incentive. Pfadenhauer (2009) recommends making any layoffdecisions by
analyzing future organizational needs and not by considering any... Show more content on

Fallon and McConnell s (2007) model advises that part time employee positions should be
eliminated before full time employees. However, I would be cautious in releasing part time
employees whose often increased flexibility could be extremely useful in transitional times within
healthcare organizations. Part time float pool healthcare providers are often experienced and
competent in many areas and could be a valuable tool in helping to provide coverage as
employees naturally leave due to job security concerns. Releasing these valuable part time
employees could be detrimental to the overall functioning of a healthcare organization. In addition,
I would offer part time positions to staff members who were willing to make the transition to part
time from full time. There may be employees who would be interested in transitioning to a part
time position as they approach retirement age or have increased family obligations.
As Fallon and McConnell (2007) report, the entire purpose of an organization undertaking a layoff
is to become more efficient. This requires that the best personnel be retained and placed in
positions in which they are most efficiently utilized. Fallon and McConnell (2007) point out that
this is unlikely to occur in a perfect manner. However, focusing on job descriptions and
performance related information can be very helpful, and these factors would help build the
foundation for any layoff determination model I would create.

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado
Introduction
Mesa Verde National Park, located in Montezuma County, Colorado, was established in 1906 by
President Theodore Roosevelt. This United States landmark was designated for the preservation
of several Puebloan archeological sites and the vast geologic history exhibited within the 52,485
acres of land occupied by Mesa Verde. The Ancestral Puebloans, or Mesa Verdeans, associated with
the archeological sites of Mesa Verde National Park, lived in the Mesa Verde region from the mid
sixth century to the end of the thirteenth century.[3]
Around 650 A.D., the Mesa Verdean peoples initiated construction of apartment style homes,
termed by Spanish explorers as pueblos. The Puebloan architecture is original in that it utilized the
local stone and mud deposits of the region to maintain the structural integrity of their burgeoning
developments. As this community evolved into the twelfth century, Mesa Verdeans further
integrated the geology of their environment into their lifestyles by building homes, known as cliff
dwellings, within the naturally formed alcoves of Mesa Verde. By the thirteenth century, the Mesa
Verdeans vacated this region due to severe droughts and subsequent social instability. Despite the
later abandonment of their cliff dwellings, it is clear that the geology of Mesa Verde National Park
impacted the lives of the Ancestral Puebloans significantly. The following sections provide detailed
information regarding the rock formations that make up the geological

Nickel And Dimed Reflection
Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America written by Barbara Ehrenreich, is a book
composed of Ehrenreich s experiences working minimum wage in Florida, Maine, and Minnesota.
Ehrenreich s sheds light onto what it is like for most minimum wage workers and brings insight
into what it truly is like trying to make it on $6 $7 hourly wage. Nickel and Dimed does a
wonderful job of giving insight to the everyday lives of the working class and somewhat
understanding their lives better. Before reading this book, I had my share of thoughts on the
working class based on what I knew from growing up with family members and even my father
being apart of the working class. This book reinforced a lot ideas that I had about the working
class and opened my eyes into what it means to live above the poverty line.
During Ehrenreich s time spent in Florida she talked about the housing options and how much it

Throughout the book Ehrenreich s co workers all seem to struggle, such as the trouble with
housing in Key West and healthcare in Maine. Having a place to live, eating properly, and
healthcare seem to be the biggest cause of concern within the working class. Most of the jobs
that she worked, the workers did not have healthcare packages or benefits. So it wasn t
uncommon for them to have trouble trying to manage their health and struggle to pay for
medication, let alone a visit to the doctor. Without healthcare and a lack of proper diet (in Maine
she had a thirty minute lunch break but most of her co workers barely ate anything close to a
meal) it is not hard to see how the working class can easily be shot into poverty; seeing as most of
the working class that she had encountered were just living above the poverty line. Reading about
what she noticed and noted about her co workers it isn t hard to imagine how easy it would be to
fall below the poverty

The Success Of Real Estate Industry
Real estate is made up of land (all of the natural parts of land such as trees and water) and all
permanently attached fences and buildings. People use real estate for many different things,
including retailing, offices, manufacturing, housing, ranching, farming, churches, and
entertainment. The success of real estatedepends on many related factors such as the state of the
economy, demographics, transportation, management expertise and style, government regulations
and taxes, location, and climate. According to the Dictionary of American History, the objective of

expansion of real estate, especially in housing, but by the mid 1930s, 16 million people were
unemployed and the demand for real estate of all types declined precipitously. World War II
brought technological breakthroughs and therefore the demand of houses and other real estate
went up. The mortgage stability introduced by federal legislation following the Great Depression
and World War II greatly aided the huge expansion of suburban housing and shopping centers that
followed the war. The Dictionary of American History also says William Levitt started building
Levittown on Long Island in 1947, with around 17,000 standardized houses produced at the rate of
36 per day for a population of 82,000, and by 1955 this type of sub division represented 75% of
new housing. The 1950s also brought the development of hotel chains. Skyscraper office,
apartment, and hotel building construction continued after World War II in urban centers, driving
up their values (and profits).
Real estate plays an extremely important role in the U.S. economy. Real estate provides housing for
families (residential). For many of them, it is the most wealth and savings that they have.

Guilt In Art Spiegelman s Maus
Being Jewish during the Holocaust must be terrifying. Overcoming all odds of being put into a
ghetto guarded by a Gestapo and being transferred into a concentration camp to be put into intense
labor is pure luck, but not for Vladek Spiegelman. In Art Spiegelman s Graphic Novel Maus, a
comic book not only about Vladek s first hand experience through the Holocaustbut also a
relationship of a father and son. This relationship is an important narrative all through Maus, and
this influences the feeling of guilt. Two different kinds of guilt are presented in this book: a
familial guilt, and the survivor s guilt.
In Maus, a specific relevance is a familial guilt that connects to the family. Artie s feeling of not
being a son to his father, which feeling guilty happens throughout in the book. In the first couple
of chapters of Maus: My Father Bleeds History, we see that Vladek and Artie don t get along. They
both live close together, yet they don t visit each other. When they speak to one another, their tone
sound like an argument is about to break out. Arguments is an often occurrence, for instance, Artie s

This quotes shows that out of all the valuables he could have taken back to show the Danes, he

Essay On Wan Technologies
As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become
more and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use
every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to
connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their
networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end
these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and
any other remote resource to access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be
accomplished through a variety of WAN technologies that are used in the world today.

With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they
purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay
provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of
access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also
much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were
simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and
linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be
simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and
provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility
versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between
locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection
uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data
sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated
through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the
physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI
and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a

With increase in age, there is gradual loss of elasticity in almost all the muscles of the body

2. There is sharp decrease in the degrees of lateral peripheral vision with age. It reduces by nearly
17 degrees in the people above 65 (Burg 1968).
Vision field loss 1. According to the data available, it is noted that the chances of developing visual
field loss in the age of 16 yrs to 60 years is nearly 3 to 3.5 % which increases to nearly 13% for the
people above 65 years of age.(Johnson and Keltner, 1983).
2. For individuals above the age of 65, the risk of development of visual field defects increase by
nearly five times than the individuals below this age. (Johnson and Keltner, 1983).
Glare/Night legibility

is a scene where two men, Vincent and Jules, sit in a car having small talk about food in Europe.
Parts of their conversation, however, contain some very resonant discussions of food, place, and
identity. Vincent: But you know what the funniest thing about Europe is? Jules: What? Vincent: It s

Today, however, it has become so much more. According to a research paper written by Martin
Lindstrom, Branding is all about building emotional ties between consumer and product. (pg.
85) Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands
that are communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of
forming emotional connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and
Beverage companies exploit this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast
cereal that goes snap, crackle, and pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish
laboratories worked to create the particular sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably
Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel
in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without the simultaneous stimulation of
multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as memorable. Take watching a
scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very scary movie, but if you turn
the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. What we have learned from Kellogg s
is that their success lies in mastering the synergy of all five senses. Food can stimulate all five
senses at the same time to bring back past memories. In Carlos Eire starts his book with a very

There existed concentration camps throughout Eastern Europe, but they were most prevalent in
Poland. Since before WWII, Poland held the highest number of the Jewish population in Europe.
Therefore, it was the core place for eliminating the Jewish people. In these camps, the people
were either sent to labor or extermination camps. As described by Levi, women, children, people
who were not capable of working were sent to extermination camps. Those who were overworked
in labor camps, faced deprivation of their humanity and of basic rights. As it states in, Reflections
on holocaust and Holocaust by David Caldwell, the disaster of the Holocaust was a failure of
civilization itself (11). Caldwell goes further in describing the chaos, or Shoah, as an exposure for
the human s capability and inclination to commit genocide, as well as others unwillingness to
confront what was happening. There were people in Germany and around the world who were well
aware of the mistreatment happening to the Jewish, but never took

Disadvantages Of Moving To Canada
At the age of 9 my parents and I migrated from East Africa, Tanzania to Canada. My parents
uprooted our family from our country in search for a better and profound life. Before my family
decided to move to Canada we lived in Kigoma while we live in Kigoma the education system
focused on French and Swahili. Although those were the institutional languages there was
plenty more languages being spoke in the country. Being that they were so many languages
being spoken where I came from it made difficult for me and my family due to the fact that we
spoke 4 languages and coming to Canada meant we would have to add one more languages. This
transition had a bigger impact on my mom, also on the rest of us because in a way we lost a part
of us because we had put certain languages way in order to learn the languageand to also
communicate with the family with languages that everyone can understand. Many families that are
newcomer to Canada can relate to the struggles that one goes through when trying to learn a new
languages while still trying to maintain their old one, this puts strains on the kids to learn the new
languages fast so that they can translate for their parents. Being able to speak more than one
languages is a blessing and a curse.

Effects Of Exercise Versus Sedentary Lifestyle On Lung...
Effects of exercise versus a sedentary lifestyle on lung function for those who are asymptomatic
smokers
Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has
worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on
recent Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past
week has been steadily declining since 1945 and the number of pack a day smokers is at the lowest
point its ever been (http://www.gallup.com/poll/1717/tobacco smoking.aspx).
According to the Center for Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/diseases
/copd.html), cigarette smoking is responsible for 80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class of diseases because it causes lung damage
and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become clogged as excess mucus accumulates
to move tar out of the body, they become thick and enflamed, and air sacs may lose their
elasticity and become destroyed, all affecting gas diffusion capacity. A nagging cough, shortness
of breath, and due to the reduced oxygen levels in the blood, discoloration of lips and fingernails
are a few of the potential symptoms of this class of diseases.
The severity of one s reduced pulmonary function, as measured by forced expiratory volume in one
second (FEV1.0), is a marked mortality risk factor (Baughman, Marott, Lange, Andrew, Hnizdo,

Analysis Of Black Swan And Shutter Island
Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky are talented directors who have created many award winning
films that incorporate certain techniques used to enhance the audience s experience of the film,
some of their directorial techniques include symbolism, costume, lighting and dialogue. I have
chosen Scorsese s 2010 filmShutter Island along with Aronofsky s 2010 film Black Swanas each of
these films have scenes that incorporate the above mentioned techniques to portray the effects
mental illness has on a person s health and welfare. The scenes are each 8 minutes in length and
run until the closing credits begin. These techniques allow the audience to relate to the film by
showing how it links to the world we live in today where mental illnesses... Show more content on

Symbolism is shown predominantly with the use of a war between black and white in relation to the
war between the persona s Nina has in her mind. These symbols allow the audience to link to the
director s main purpose of showing the effects mental illness has on the people suffering and
also others that are involved closely in their lives. In both Shutter Island and Black Swan
symbolism is featured profoundly throughout which gives the audience the chance to look for
the deeper meaning in what they are viewing. The use of a number of different techniques such
as costume and props displays hidden meaning in the film to the viewers and how this is
expressed could hit certain levels of the psychological and emotional labyrinth that all of us have
according to Scorsese. Symbolism in these films helps the audience understand the effects of
mental illness by the cues shown such as the plaster on Teddy s forehead and the scratch on Nina
s back, the more obscure cues given show that Teddy is a figment of imagination in Andrews mind
and becoming a real black swan is also a figment of imagination in Nina s mind. Events that have
happened in both Nina and Andrews past have taken over, leading them on the path of
psychological disintegration. The symbolism used to portray this in both films is

Compare And Contrast Hedda Gabler And Oedipus The King
Ibsen and Sophocles are distinct writers from different periods and culture. They both wrote plays
and stories with strong protagonists who the readers don t enjoy, but, whose fate is somewhat
tragic in a sense that elicits the reader s sympathy for the sense of wasted potential and tragic loss.
Personally, I agree with this statement because from both authors books like Ibsen Hedda Gablerand
Sophocles OedipusThe King ; the readers did not like the main characters, but the reader does
sympathize. The protagonists from both plays do portray themselves as people that others don t
like, but as the plays goes on; the protagonists begin to reveal themselves and their struggles. In
which, the readers would sympathize.
On Sophocles text Oedipus the King , Sophocles begins the play with the main character:
Oedipus is this heroic person who is to find out the cause of the disease that is spreading across
the city and causing so many to die. Oedipus is a person who is brave and intelligent because he
was the one to solve the sphinx riddle and to kill her. On page 483, paragraph 4, Sophocles
describes the backstory of how Oedipus becomes famous in the city of Thebes, ... When he
reached Thebes, he found the city oppressed by a dreadful female monster, a Sphinx part human,
part lion, often also depicted in Greek art with the wings of an eagle and the tail of a snake. The
Sphinx refused to let anyone into the city unless they could answer her riddle [...] She strangled and

Cerebrum Essay
The Cerebrum
To begin with, the human brain is the most complex part of the human body. It has control to every
organ because of a primary functional unit which is the neurons. The exterior part of the brain has
specific functions to every organ in the human body. Therefore, the human brain is the most
important organ in the human body. A person can be left brained or right brained according to how
they act.
The Cerebellum is the trilobed structure of the brain. The cerebellum helps provide smooth
coordinated body movement. Examples would balance, posture, coordination, and voluntary
movements. It also modifies motor commands to make more movement accurate and adaptive. The

Parietal lobe receives all somatosensory input from the body. Wernicke s area is located in the back

Live Electronics Essay
1.1Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for
performance of live electronics which will simplify the compositional workflow, easy the
performance and ensure the preservation. The main idea is to extend Common Western Music
Notation(CWMN) to the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and
cohesive representation of the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics
genre. Along with this new notation, it is necessary to develop an authoring/performance
technology environment which will enable us to represent and execute the logical layer of the

Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole
about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However,
it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as
in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature.
The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that
CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact
[Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of
our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written
either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and
procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music,
staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created
by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully
detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role

Foreign Policy Problem For Nepal
After defeating the incumbent prime minister, KP Oli is in the process of forming a new
government in Nepal. His government faces daunting challenges both old and new.
Let us start with the old challenges. Foreign policy of each country is driven by its national interest.
Both India and China prefer a seamlessly friendly government in Kathmandu, which is not possible
given their strategic contest and territorial conflict.
This creates an irreconcilable foreign policy problem for Nepal. This problem has been so as old
as the unified Nepal. King Prithivi Narayan Shah understood this conflict of interests between the
two neighbors, characterized his newly unified kingdom as a yam between two large boulders, and

Washington supported the coup staged by General Sisi to throw out the democratically chosen
regime.
Although western countries do not tire pledging their commitment to human rights, they continue
to do deals with the most oppressive regimes in the world if they are powerful and have strategic
resources like oil and uranium.
Obviously, India prefers to maintain its influence in Nepal, if not increase it. The Sugauli Treaty
of 1815, 1950 Treaty, shared culture, open and accessible border, Nepal s economic reliance on
India have given India certain advantages in Nepal. China is seeking to change the status quo.
New Delhi punishes its smaller neighbors if they cozy up with Beijing. For instance, when Nepal
bought weapons from China, India imposed economic blockade on Nepal in 1989 90. Similarly,
when Bhutan moved closer to China and accepted 20 Chinese buses, India cut off its fuel subsidy
to Thimpu in 2013.
That brings me to the new challenges of Nepal: India s unannounced economic embargo;
implementation of the new constitution; and Nepal s accelerated economic development.
First, the embargo. a series of Indian political experiments in Nepal since 1950 suggest that New
Delhi is yet to find an optimal policy framework north of its border.
These experiments include the 1950 political change; efforts to integrate foreign and defence
policies in the 1950s; letters of 1959, 1963, and 1965; political change of 1990; Maoist insurgency

The Atlanta Murders Of 1979–1981, Sometimes Called The

of the purported victims were adults), were a series of murders committed in the American city of
Atlanta, Georgia, from the middle of 1979 until May 1981. Over the two year period, at least 28
African American children, adolescents and adults were killed. Wayne Williams
, an Atlanta native
who was 23 years old at the time of the last murder, was arrested for and convicted of two of the
adult murders, and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Police subsequently have attributed a
number of the child murders to Williams and closed the cases, although he has not been tried or

On March 4, 1980, the first female victim, 12 year old Angel Lenair, disappeared. She left her

television program Sanford and Son. Lenair s body was found six days later, in a wooded vacant

panties that did not belong to Lenair were stuffed in her mouth, and her hands were bound with an
electrical cord. The cause of death was strangulation.
On March 11, one week after Lenair s disappearance, 11 year old Jeffrey Mathis disappeared while

Analyzing Abortion Essay
Analyzing Abortion In 1973, Roe versus Wade instigated an ongoing debate in the United States
concerning the implementation of abortion (Rubin 1). Prior to Roe, abortion was illegal, however
it was practiced. In 1846, a few blocks south of Manhattan s Greenwich Village, Madame Restell
performed illegal abortions to cure female irregularities, or pregnancies (Rubin1). After Restell, a
group called Jane , also known as the Abortion Counseling Service of the Chicago Women s
Liberation Union, performed more than 11,000 illegal abortions from 1969 73 in Chicago alone
(Horst 1). Though the Court decision lawfully settled the argument, the abortion issuedeveloped

As of 1997, 49 countries, including many industrialized European countries, have abortion
legislations similar to the United States (Henshaw et al. 58).
The abortion debate is controversial because it predominantly centers on society s religious and
moral beliefs. Religion is the leading variable of individuals opposing legalized abortion in the
United States (Kelley). Furthermore, Kristin Luker believes that the moral positions of activists
on both sides of the abortion issue reflect their individual worldviews on sexuality, family life,
technology and the importance of the individual; however, the pro choice and pro life movements
are not effective in changing people s moral beliefs on abortion (Luker). The key issue our
candidate must address is the federal government s participation in funding state sponsored sex
education programs and greater coverage of abortion costs.
The public s stance on abortion has remained relatively stable since the Roe decision. Fifty six
percent of the general public feels that abortion should be legal in certain circumstances such as
rape, incest or health complications. Overall, pro life advocates views on abortion tend to be
congruent across the board. Ninety eight percent of abortion opponents feel it is morally wrong in
all circumstances (Scott). However, the pro choice movement is more fragmented in its opinions.
Twenty seven percent of pro choice people support abortion even though they believe it is morally

Haydn Arminta Sage s Life And Accomplishments
It was warm for winter in Miami, on January 29, 2003, two days earlier than expected. My mom
and dad rushed to the hospital for the third time that week. Today felt different though, today
would be the day. It took 17 long hours in the Jackson Memorial Hospital but finally at 9:50 PM, I
was born.I was peacefully cheerful the second I was born. Immediately looking around and
contentedly observing the loving familythat surrounded me:my mothercrying tears of joy, my
father, and my grandmother. The world so colossal and full of possibilities for a small baby. 7
pounds 11 ounces, green eyes, the newest addition to the family. Jim and Michelle all filled with
pride with the delicate object of endless possibilities on how she will impact and shape today s
world.
Haydn Arminta Sage. The only girl name my parents could agree on. It took many months to
decide on the name. It took many months of vigorously searching through baby name books in
the local Barnes and Noble. Until they finally agreed on Haydn if I was a girl or Sterling if I was a
boy. My parents like the name not only because of how it sounded but also the meaning behind it.

composer Joseph Haydn, who is also one of my parents favorite composers. ... Show more content

Analysis Of Talking At The Gates By James Baldwin
Talking at the Gates: A Life of James Baldwin is connected to history in many ways. One way
for sure is because James Baldwin was one of many African American influential writers who
grew up in America. He also grew up around the time the Great Depression was going on and the
Harlem Renaissance. This story is connected to history because at this point of time in the United
States, there was so much racism going and a lot of white supremacy groups trying their best to
make blacks seem inferior. James Baldwin was one of those African Americanmales who beat the
odds and was successful before his death. The first section of the book was No Story, Ma was
pretty much about Baldwin s early childhood. According to the book James Baldwin was born
August 2, 1924 at Harlem Hospital. James Campbell put in the book that James Baldwin said in
an interview I never had a childhood which meant to Baldwin he never had a father. When his
mother married David Baldwin, she changed his last name to Baldwin as well. In the book it says
that Baldwin thought his stepfather treated him differently from his biological children. James
Campbell included that he was always harsh on James Baldwin. This part also tells how much
David Baldwin resent the whites and prayed that God would punish them somehow for revenge.
David Baldwin died a little over 80 while his wife ( James Baldwin s mother) was pregnant with
their ninth child. From the three schools James attended he was remembered for

The Pros and Cons of Open Source Essay
Open Source: Good and Bad
Introduction:
In the following paper I will be discussing the use of open source software as part of a larger
project. Example uses of this include incorporating existing publicly available source code within
another piece of software. Because the term open source has such broad implications, I will attempt
to explain it within the context of this paper. Open source code comes with many different licenses
such as GPL, BSD, and MIT. I will describe the most popular licensing options and how they differ.
Many companies believe open source software projects have an immense lack of accountability; this
is simply untrue. Lastly, open source software has recently received an abundance of attention in
the media because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering most of these are written by teams of lawyers and span multiple pages, this comes as
no surprise. While complicated at first, they really are not that bad. It is important to keep in mind
that their main intent is to protect the rights of the original author, not to impede your use of the
author s code.
Licensing Options:
The most popular license is known as the General Public License (GPL for short.) This license
places the software into the public domain with some restrictions. Additionally, all
improvements or derived code must also be placed under the GPL. If you are planning on
releasing software based in part on code obtained under the GPL, you must provide the source
code for your version. You may charge a fee for this, but people are still allowed to buy a copy and
redistribute it for free. Note that if you are building software for private use, you do not have to
redistribute this private code. Using the aforementioned example, if you were to use a piece of
code from Gaim in your program, you must release your whole project under the GPL if you wish
to make your project publicly available.
Another very popular license is the MIT license. This is a very simple license that in essence
states that you can do whatever you want with this code. You may include MIT licensed code into
a commercial project as well.

Reactance Window Drying
Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses circulating
water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2]
Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones.
This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state.
DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is
achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the
product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and
vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred
to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this
moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound
moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its
movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation
process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that
evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls
and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in
the drying process is usually known as

  • 2. Unilateral Training Research Paper Unilateral versus Bilateral Training in Stroke Rehabilitation of Persons with Upper Limb Hemiparesis Celeste James, Lindsay Konal, and Jenell Nadolski OT 6230 March 1, 2017 Abstract Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post stroke functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke, researchers have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and the benefits of each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were studied, analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two and their effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mudie Matyas (2000) claim that long term potentiation may result from initial bilateral rehabilitation, which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing pattern is established, simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb s hemisphere via crossed corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong neuronal inputs to the less affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more affected hemisphere. Through this association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to become potentiated, thereby increasing supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie Matyas, ... • 3. Importance Of Credibility In Public Speaking Ordinarily, to establish credibility, public speakers should earn the audience s trust and respect by presenting themselves as authorities on the topic that they are speaking. Consequently, the speaker should not rely on the content of their speech to gain credibility with the audience. Self presentation is important too since the public will start judging the communicator before the speaker begins to communicate verbally. Establish the authority to the public by speaking about the topic by stating the source of where the knowledge: experience, training, or research came into perspective. • 4. The Great Conroversy of the Nazca Lines Without a doubt the architecture and the grandeur of Pumapunku is awe inspiring, but just because something might not be easily explained at first glance does not mean that an explanation does not exist, buried in the history. Meanwhile nearly 500 miles to the Northeast of Tiwanaku lays another site of great controversy and is what many ancient alien theorists call the extraterrestrial airport. Located deep in the NazcaDessert in southern Peru lies one of the most identifiable archeological sites when it comes to evidence for aliens being among in the past; the Nazca Lines. Ever since they became known in the 1920s, when a commercial airplane flew over the dessert, these mysterious encryptions have puzzled scientists from anthropology to archeology, and just about anyone else fascinated by the lines and just what they mean or how they got there. Since they were discovered scientists have tried to explain them as roads, an ancient calendar system, and landing places for alien space ships. Leading alien theorist Erich Von Daniken theorizes in his book Chariots of the Gods? that the complexity and interworking s of the glyphs were beyond the capability of the Nazca cultureand that their sole purpose was to act as landing strips and that the shapes of animals were used as reference points. Although it might be easy for some people to accept these theories as the only plausible explanation, because what else could the Nazca Lines be. However, just because something is not ... • 5. Importance Of Purification Of Water Essay Purification of Water to Save Humanity Thought water is the other name of life, more than billion people around the world cannot drink clean water. Some of them used to walk for milieus just to fetch water for themselves and their families. In some places where the supply of water is enough, it is found most of the time the water is polluted with virus and bacteria which can form deadly diseases. Not only in the undeveloped countries but also in developing countries water sources are polluted sometimes. And there s another group that lacks access to abundant, safe, clean drinking water: astronauts. As astronauts have to take things what they need and they have to reuse and recycle every dewdrop of water. On the International Space Station, where U.S. Astronaut Scott Kelly recently spent a year in orbit, specialized technology developed by NASA collects every bit of moisture, including sweat and urine, and turns it into drinkable water Filtration is the only solution. As all filters are not equal depending on the expenditure some of them can only drain out dirt and low level bacteria which are harmful mostly for young children s as the water used to carry a dangerous virus. Luckily the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists come forward with their best water filtering technology. In 2000, Florida based Argon ide was working with nanomaterials and discovered its Nanoceramic fibers had properties that made them excellent as water filters. The main benefit to the nanofibers was their unusually strong bio adhesively meaning particles, including viruses and bacteria, were easily attracted to the fibers. When water passed through a filter woven of the fibers, these particles flocked to the fibers and got stuck there, leaving virus and bacteria free water on the other side. NASA rewarded the company. The Nanoceramic fibers produce an electropositive charge when water flows through them. Many impurities carry a slight negative charge and are absorbed by the filter, explained Tom Smokoff, founder of Water Pure Technologies. Some filters were designed by using membranes with small pores so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Oedipus Judgement Sophocles wrote a tragic play, Oedipus the King, in which the protagonist, Oedipus, discovers his fate. Thebes, the area currently ruled by Oedipus, has fallen under a plague so Creon, Oedipus brother in law, is sent to ask Apollo, a messenger for the Gods, for advice on how to save Thebes. Oedipus discovers that to bring Thebes out of the plague he needs to find and persecute the murderer of Laius, the former king of Thebes. Oedipussearches high and low for anyone who might have information and finds a blind prophet, Tiresias, who claims Oedipus killed Laius. However, Oedipus believes this cannot be true because Jocasta, Laius s former wife and now Oedipus wife, was prophesied to have a son who would kill Laius and have sex with Jocasta.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About recognition, Aristotle writes, ...is a change from ignorance to knowledge... (672). In the beginning of the play, Oedipus is ignorant and has no idea who the murderer of Laius is and consequently works diligently to find the murderer. Oedipus implores the blind prophet, Tiresias, for help first when he states, I beg you, grudge us nothing now....Rescue yourself, your city, rescue me rescue everything infected by the dead. We are in your hands (351 357). Oedipus is using guilt and begging to try to get help from the blind prophet, he is trying so hard because he doesn t know the eventual consequences of his action. Another tactic Oedipus uses to convince people to give him answers is torture which he uses on the Shepherd. Oedipus barks, So, you won t talk willingly then you ll talk with pain (1266 1267). He then goes on to order Twist his arms back quickly! (1269). After the physical torture and a threat of death, the Shepherd tells Oedipus it was Jocasta who gave him the baby. Oedipus realizes he is the murderer of Laius and goes on to claim I stand revealed at last cursed in birth, cursed in marriage, cursed in the lives I cut down with these hands! (Lines 1309 1311). • 7. Seasons In A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay In A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, the seasons are vital to the development of several relationships. Seasons are first presented in the title. Each season offers a different attitude. Summer is known for freedom and romance, where winter in contrast is shown with themes of bitterness and death. The seasonof the play and the themes associated with it allow the characters in the comedy to progress in their romantic relationships. The seasons heavily affect the relationships of the inhabitants of the magical world. Fairy royalty Titania and Oberon, along with their attendants see over the magical world. Hermia and Helena argue over the men, who have both been unknowingly tainted with the love potion. This leads to arguments over their friendship which was once so strong that the two were two seeming bodies but one heart as well as their physical insecurities (3.2.212). The women are forcing their angers on to each other both because they are angry at each other and because of the love potion confusion and the season switch. Thomas C. Foster describes hard wired traits of winter, which could be the season summer has been confused with by the fairies, as filled with resentment and dissatisfaction with things life people (186). Towards the end of the comedy, the fight between Titania and Oberon was solved, causing their negative effects in the physical world to subside and allow the seasons to stop their dissension (2.1.116). Operation Barbarossa was the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union enacted by Hitler and carried out by Nazi troops. But the Nazis were not the only ones who suffered colossal losses. The soviets had over 4,000,000 military casualties, but somehow, the U.S.S.R. defeated the Germans and was able to shove them out of their land. This defeat definitely had a major effect on WWII s outcome due to the massive Nazi force that was allotted to Operation Barbarossa and their failure to take command of the U.S.S.R. After the U.S.S.R. would fall, many Nazi soldiers would be demilitarized and would be brought back to Germany to help with a labor shortage and the Nazis would not have to worry about oil shortages anymore due to the control of the Baku Oil fields. The strategy that was used was The Three Prong Assault. One group would head for Leningrad, another would head for Moscow, and another would attempt to conquer the Baku Oil fields. In the first days of the assault, the Nazis bombed Soviet airfields, destroying one quarter of their aerial army and large cities. The U.S.S.R. retaliated by presenting a patriotic speech to motivate Soviets, and mobilizing its troops. In just one week, the Nazis had accomplished some rather large objectives. One of the larger events in Operation Barbarossa was the Siege of Leningrad. Army Group North (Nazi) had finally reached its primary goal; Leningrad. However, the Soviets were not willing to give this city up, and were able to repel the Nazis and hold the city. In the Court s opinion of this case, it discussed the legal basis for their decision, emphasizing the need for changes away from the traditional rules of custodial interrogation. This landmark case in criminal procedure was marked by great public criticism for the liberal stance shown by the U.S. Supreme Court. I believe she meant to illustrate a narrative of a woman, Aunt Jennifer, under the oppression of a male. This is illustrated in the 2nd stanza when Rich describes Aunt Jennifer s hand as being too heavy to pull the needle through the wool because of the massive weight of Uncle s wedding band (7, 633). This massive weight is man s control over his wife and the wedding band is a symbol of his control. This idea is also supported in the third stanza when Rich describes Aunt Jennifer dead being still ringed with the ordeals she was mastered by (9 10, 633). Overall the poem illustrates oppression by stating in the first stanza what she really desires and then describing how she is oppressed and held back by the male in her life. Most likely the conditions were troublesome. The moderately short and grisly wars of triumph were long over while the considerable and augmented assignment of settlement still posed a potential threat before the general population, testing their physical strength as well as their good and profound fiber too. Gradually, they cleared the scantily settled slope nation and built up themselves in the more prolific and populated valleys, and wherever they were ceaselessly gone up against with the unpropitious decision of either restricting their Canaanite adversaries with their polytheistic and relativistic ways or else obliging or notwithstanding grasping them. A large portion of the tribes generally picked the last mentioned. The celebration we see in the media of celebrity chefs today really started with Cecelia Chang. She was indeed a pioneer. That very same year, Cecilia returned to China for an extended trip. This United States landmark was designated for the preservation of several Puebloan archeological sites and the vast geologic history exhibited within the 52,485 acres of land occupied by Mesa Verde. The Ancestral Puebloans, or Mesa Verdeans, associated with the archeological sites of Mesa Verde National Park, lived in the Mesa Verde region from the mid sixth century to the end of the thirteenth century.[3] Around 650 A.D., the Mesa Verdean peoples initiated construction of apartment style homes, termed by Spanish explorers as pueblos. The Puebloan architecture is original in that it utilized the local stone and mud deposits of the region to maintain the structural integrity of their burgeoning developments. As this community evolved into the twelfth century, Mesa Verdeans further integrated the geology of their environment into their lifestyles by building homes, known as cliff dwellings, within the naturally formed alcoves of Mesa Verde. By the thirteenth century, the Mesa Verdeans vacated this region due to severe droughts and subsequent social instability. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and any other remote resource to access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be accomplished through a variety of WAN technologies that are used in the world today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(pg. 85) Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands that are communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of forming emotional connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and Beverage companies exploit this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast cereal that goes snap, crackle, and pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish laboratories worked to create the particular sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without the simultaneous stimulation of multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as memorable. Take watching a scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very scary movie, but if you turn the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. • 47. Analyzing Abortion Essay Analyzing Abortion In 1973, Roe versus Wade instigated an ongoing debate in the United States concerning the implementation of abortion (Rubin 1). Prior to Roe, abortion was illegal, however it was practiced. In 1846, a few blocks south of Manhattan s Greenwich Village, Madame Restell performed illegal abortions to cure female irregularities, or pregnancies (Rubin1). After Restell, a group called Jane , also known as the Abortion Counseling Service of the Chicago Women s Liberation Union, performed more than 11,000 illegal abortions from 1969 73 in Chicago alone (Horst 1). Though the Court decision lawfully settled the argument, the abortion issuedeveloped further creating a substantial amount of turmoil between the opposing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of 1997, 49 countries, including many industrialized European countries, have abortion legislations similar to the United States (Henshaw et al. 58). The abortion debate is controversial because it predominantly centers on society s religious and moral beliefs. Religion is the leading variable of individuals opposing legalized abortion in the United States (Kelley). Furthermore, Kristin Luker believes that the moral positions of activists on both sides of the abortion issue reflect their individual worldviews on sexuality, family life, technology and the importance of the individual; however, the pro choice and pro life movements are not effective in changing people s moral beliefs on abortion (Luker). The key issue our candidate must address is the federal government s participation in funding state sponsored sex education programs and greater coverage of abortion costs. The public s stance on abortion has remained relatively stable since the Roe decision. Fifty six percent of the general public feels that abortion should be legal in certain circumstances such as rape, incest or health complications. Overall, pro life advocates views on abortion tend to be congruent across the board. Ninety eight percent of abortion opponents feel it is morally wrong in all circumstances (Scott). However, the pro choice movement is more fragmented in its opinions. Twenty seven percent of pro choice people support abortion even though they believe it is morally ... • 49. Analysis Of Talking At The Gates By James Baldwin Talking at the Gates: A Life of James Baldwin is connected to history in many ways. One way for sure is because James Baldwin was one of many African American influential writers who grew up in America. He also grew up around the time the Great Depression was going on and the Harlem Renaissance. This story is connected to history because at this point of time in the United States, there was so much racism going and a lot of white supremacy groups trying their best to make blacks seem inferior. James Baldwin was one of those African Americanmales who beat the odds and was successful before his death. The first section of the book was No Story, Ma was pretty much about Baldwin s early childhood. According to the book James Baldwin was born August 2, 1924 at Harlem Hospital. James Campbell put in the book that James Baldwin said in an interview I never had a childhood which meant to Baldwin he never had a father. When his mother married David Baldwin, she changed his last name to Baldwin as well. In the book it says that Baldwin thought his stepfather treated him differently from his biological children. James Campbell included that he was always harsh on James Baldwin. This part also tells how much David Baldwin resent the whites and prayed that God would punish them somehow for revenge. David Baldwin died a little over 80 while his wife ( James Baldwin s mother) was pregnant with their ninth child. From the three schools James attended he was remembered for ... • 50. The Pros and Cons of Open Source Essay Open Source: Good and Bad Introduction: In the following paper I will be discussing the use of open source software as part of a larger project. Example uses of this include incorporating existing publicly available source code within another piece of software. Because the term open source has such broad implications, I will attempt to explain it within the context of this paper. Open source code comes with many different licenses such as GPL, BSD, and MIT. I will describe the most popular licensing options and how they differ. Many companies believe open source software projects have an immense lack of accountability; this is simply untrue. Lastly, open source software has recently received an abundance of attention in the media because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering most of these are written by teams of lawyers and span multiple pages, this comes as no surprise. While complicated at first, they really are not that bad. It is important to keep in mind that their main intent is to protect the rights of the original author, not to impede your use of the author s code. Licensing Options: The most popular license is known as the General Public License (GPL for short.) This license places the software into the public domain with some restrictions. Additionally, all improvements or derived code must also be placed under the GPL. If you are planning on releasing software based in part on code obtained under the GPL, you must provide the source code for your version. You may charge a fee for this, but people are still allowed to buy a copy and redistribute it for free. Note that if you are building software for private use, you do not have to redistribute this private code. Using the aforementioned example, if you were to use a piece of code from Gaim in your program, you must release your whole project under the GPL if you wish to make your project publicly available. Another very popular license is the MIT license. This is a very simple license that in essence states that you can do whatever you want with this code. You may include MIT licensed code into a commercial project as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Reactance Window Drying Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in the drying process is usually known as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
