Remember the Contributions of the First Sailors
We must always remember with gratitude and admiration the first sailors who steered their vessels
through storms and mists, and increased our knowledge of the land... Ronald Amundsen). Although
not all explorers of the Pacific Northwest were sailors, all of them deserve to be honored because of
the contribution their expeditions made to WA. The first non Indians that came to the Pacific
Northwestwere most likely from China or Japan and drifted ashore by accident. After them, came
European explorers and later, American explorers who traveled for many reasons like to find the
Northwest Passageor because they were sent to learn information about the mysterious land. Some
famous explorers of the Pacific Northwest include Lewis Clark, who were sent by Thomas
Jefferson, Vitus Berling, which proved that Asia America were separate continents, and Robert
Gray who claimed the Oregon territory; explorers like these their expeditions helped shape
Washingtoninto what it is today. The explorers of the Pacific Northwest should be honored by
having a monument built for them in their favor because they made several contributions to the
development of Washington State, these contributions include making maps charts for the area,
building forts, and bringing back detailed journals from (or of?) their expeditions
To begin, one contribution explorers made for (or to?) Washington was making maps charts of the
area, this was important because it helped later travelers find their way

Charles Darwin Social Influence
One of the most influential thinkers in science, Charles Darwin was a man with an immense
devotion to pursuing the relationship between himself and the world around him.
In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s genuine interest
in culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but also his behavioral
observations and interpretations of the animals and peoples of the areas he visited (p.103). His
inclination to find reason through observational and exploratory research cemented his
contributions to the knowledge of human development. Darwin s theories are still at the forefront
of psychological research, lecture, and debate, and are the basis for many different areas of study

Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared
instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He
concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and
theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this
phenomenon. In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of
instinct, who spoke of instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which
impel animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to
instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by
Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling
birds, though it is strengthened by experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other
animals. But fear of man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the
Darwin, has a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or
instinctive. The constant shift of environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form
habits, and potentially, instincts. This comparative approach has opened the doors to new ideas
about behavior in humans

The Safety Act Of The Stadium And The Facility Safety
Goal: Facility Safety In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium and the facility, we
have identified multiple potential vulnerabilities and steps to prevent a cyber attack that leads
to harm to any person in the stadium or the stadium. Although the SAFETY Act prevents an
entity from being held liable in the event of a terrorist attack, including a cyber terrorist attack,
we believe it is in the best interest of the stadium to accept the following recommendations. This
allows the stadium to create a safe and positive experience for all attendees. These
recommendations include responses to potential vulnerabilities such as emergency systems,
power grids, and electronic displays. Emergency Systems We believe that the emergency
systems in stadiums are a vulnerability. One of the main areas of concern are the alarms in
stadiums. If hackers are able to infiltrate the computer networks, there is a possibility of them
being able to get access to the alarm management network and disable all of the alarms in a
stadium. This could prove to be disastrous in the case of an actual emergency because there
would be no way to notify attendees to evacuate the stadium, go on lockdown, or take any other
precautions necessary in the case of an emergency. In order to prevent this, we propose that all
stadiums keep all operating systems up to date. By doing so, this lessens the number of flaws in the
operating system that can be taken advantage of by hackers to infiltrate

Why Did North Korea To Launch A Ballistic Missile
Recently, many Eastern Asian countries have been faced with the facts that the D.P.R.K or in
other words North Korea, can and may launch a ballistic missile at their homeland. North Korea
has been in the missile making business for about five and a half decades, and working frantically
to develop an ICBM or intercontinental ballistic missilethat can reach the mainland of the United
States. The D.P.R.K s main goal is to continue testing and finally launch a missile at the United
States. This can be tracked down to the time of Kim Il Sung, and Soviet influence. When North
Koreafinally gets to the capacity, when they can launch an ICBM, they will not stop until the
United States is destroyed. This is why North Korea will keep up their missile... Show more content

North Korea appears to have ambitious plans for developing new long range missiles and has
begun deploying new cruise missiles, short range tactical missiles, and unarmed aerial vehicles
(UAVs) (McGrath). According to McGrath, North Korea has been developing several long range
missiles that could destroy United States bases in the Pacific. The developing missiles could
potentially be capable of a range of 7,000 to 9,500 kilometers and hold a 500 to 700 ton warhead.
Recent, evidence suggests that North Korea is developing multi stage missiles which can travel
much longer distances than a single stage missile. In addition to multi stage missiles, North Korea
has been testing out solid fueled systems. Lastly, North Korea has the ambition to modernize their

Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food
Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents
when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of
major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in
low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents
must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience
stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious
food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. Many low income
families in Philadelphia have limited funds from which to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy
foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved
neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website).
They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South
Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one
long table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and
vegetables in the community. The Food Trust works with neighborhoods, schools, grocers, farmers
and policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy
food and to increase its availability. The Food Trust efforts with its partners resulted in the creation
of the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. It was the nations first statewide financing program to
increase supermarket development in underserved areas. The Food Trust is a nonprofit organization
that continues to ensure that all children who live in communities have access to safe, healthy and
affordable food. Their key goal of this project is to stimulate the development of supermarkets in
lower income neighborhoods. There are large areas of Philadelphia with few supermarkets, and
many neighborhoods where none exist. There is an uneven distribution of food in

Heart Religion Research Paper
Heart religion is another strong characteristic of evangelicalism. Since the reformation, when
Martin Luther (1483 1546) called the sacramental system of the medieval Roman church as the
Babylonian Captivity of the Church , protestants had the tendency to distrust tradition . But the
process of the Protestantismwas changing the meaning of faith from faith expectancy to faith
doctrine. People even once attempted to verify one s position as a Christian by accepting correct
creeds . Only when the era of Evangelicalism came, personal conversion was seen as a norm for
Christians, there was an outburst of desires to have powerful, transforming personal encounters

From its theology, the central of the movement was an intense experience of being filled with the
Spirit or of awakening to a new life through the transforming power of the Spirit. The process of
charismatic spirituality was from Search, searching for the God who is revealed in Christ, to
Encounter, encountering with the same God by means of the Holy Spirit, and then Transformation,
being transformed or renewed as the consequences of the encountering experiences. From its
practice, the charismatics had given a full expression to the importance of experience. Especially
their personal and deep worship, the worshippers were given freedom to express a wide range of
human sensibilities: singing, clapping, concert prayer, the praise choruses, and kinesthetic
movements together provided avenues of expression. Besides it, a variety of modes of sensibility in
their ritual, including celebration, contemplation, transcendental efficacy, penitent/purgation,
ecstacy, improvisation (ritualization) and ceremony, helped to orient and animate their practices. As

Questions for Discussion
1.Evaluate product innovation at Gillette throughout its history. Has Gillette been a victim of its
own success? Has product innovation in the wet shaving market come to an end? Explain.
While evaluating the product innovation at Gillette throughout its history, it is easy to relate to the
companies ups and downs, as well as its struggles. Especially in the younger developmental years,
we see the resilience of the company and the drive that was necessary in order to continue
operations. These hardships pushed the company to continue to refine its product and mine for new
innovations. It was stated that the Gillette Company lead the personal care and grooming industry ...

Overall, one upmanship can be deadly to both companies whom constantly try to outdo
themselves and also offer better prices. The primary reason why this can be deadly is by cutting
profit margins thinner and thinner. Ultimately price is what sells and item and not quality,
especially if the quality is marginal. You don t have to go far to see this classical struggle. Gas
stations are a prime example of one upmanship. Profit margins on gas are noted to be very thin. If
you consider gas station prices on neighboring stations, they are typically very close if not the
same. These stations have effectively locked themselves into a commitment to match or exceed
their competitor s price in order to draw higher sales, because ultimately what sells gas at
neighboring gas stations is the best price.
3.What actions would you recommend over the next five years that would help Gillette maintain its
worldwide dominance in the shaving market? What specific marketing program discussions would
you recommend? Should Gillette be worried about Schick? Explain.
Over the next five years, it is recommended that Gillette continue innovation. Innovation is key in
any market; you must continue to exceed customer expectation while continuing to meet basic
needs. Over the next five years, it is also important to keep up with changes in market demands and
also listening to consumer feedback. Marketing programs that involve getting guys to try their new

Deep Intellect
In The Brains of the Animal Kingdom by Frans De Waal, he would describe intelligence as
learning how to use tools correctly, to accomplish completing task the right way. Frans De Waal s
describes how humans may think that animals are not as smart as we think, but they actually
prove us wrong. Animals have their ways of performing tasks and accomplishing things they have
to do. De Waal sets an elephant as an example and he states, Kandula ignored the sticks but, after a
while, began kicking the box with his foot. He kicked it many times in a straight line until it was
right underneath the branch. He then stood on the box with his front legs, which enabled him to
reach the food with his trunk. An elephant, it turns out, can use tools if they are the right ones (De
Waal 3). Just like humans, an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Love Medicine Louise Eldrich Analysis
In the story, Love Medicine , the author, Louisa Eldrich, uses symbols and the Turkey heart is
representative of many things presented in the story; Such as Grandpa s outlook on life, his
relationship with Grandpa, Lulu and his battle with Alzheimer s. The turkey hearts represent
grandpa s outlook on life.
Grandpa s outlook on life regarding his relationship with Grandma is that he didn t want a
second chance. There was no romance between them anymore. He did not find Grandma pretty
anymore. In the text, it describes Grandma to a house: sagged and buldged on her slipped
foundation. ( pg 297) She wasn t as pretty to him as Lulu Lamartine was. The Turkey Heart was
given to Grandpa and Grandma to mend their broken relationship. He was pressured to keep their
relationship alive. The hearts also represents their relationship in another way. It s representative
of Grandpa s faithfulness, and maybe if he ate it he would only be loyal to Grandma again. He was
also facing a battle with Alzheimer s.

based on physical appearance and beauty. Once he saw her with the wig, he was mortified, and
he didn t like her anymore as well. That shows that he prefers things that are fake and
materialistic. It s almost as if he s reverting back to the life he could have had as a movie star.
Since he had been married to Grandma for a long time, and the romance was practically gone, he
did not view his infidelity as a wrongdoing. I am sure since there was no romance, as well, he just
viewed Grandma as a sister and so he did not think anything of

The A Vessel Of Power
A Vessel of Power
Open on a small, hot, loud, and crowded room; emphasis on the loud. The lights are low aside
from a glowing stage. Two gangly men are exuding energy and life off the stage and onto the
crowd. The mass of people at their feet are responding tenfold, dedicated fans who know every
word, every beat. They sing (or scream) along, I m trying, I m trying to sleep. But I can t, but I
can t when you all have guns for hands. The room is filled with unusual pairs: old and young, black
and white, poor and rich. Despite their differences, they are at home with each other, bound by their
shared interest in music and life. The song continues, and hundreds of hands shaped like guns fill
the small space between the heads and the ceiling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The language of an effective song inspires deeper thinking, puts a thought in a new perspective,
helps cement prior knowledge, opens the eyes of the audience. These lyrics aid in that ah ha
moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the
listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful.
The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few
sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio,
every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores
the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity
of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how
that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others
out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates
that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life
goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their
most popular song, House of Gold. The song is a simple ballad to the writer s mother promising to
take care of her: sweet, but not exactly thought provoking. Despite this, Vessel definitely exceeds the

Importance Of Identity In Things Fall Apart
Finding Your Identity Having an identity and more importantly finding your identity is very
important when it comes to finding and achieving your purpose in life. It is very difficult to find
your purpose when you don t have a clear self identity. Merriam Webster dictionary defines identity
in this context as the distinguishing character or personality of an individual , and that perfectly
represents what Nwoye experiences in the novel Things Fall Apartwhen the European missionaries
come to Nigeria and start teaching the Ibo villagers about Jesus Christ and Christianity. Nwoye
experiences a change in his religious identity because the missionaries words really get through to
him, and he really understands what they are trying to teach. Identity is mentioned multiple times
in Cosmopolitanism as Kwame Anthony Appiahputs an emphasis on finding your identity and
having a specific identity to be able to help other people when they need it. Nwoye always
thought that his purpose in life was to follow the faith of his fellow villagers, but once he heard
the teachings of the Christian missionaries he realized his real purpose, and his religious identity,
was to spread the word of Jesus Christ. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebeis a book set in a small

Managing Friendships Can Be A Complicated Process
Managing friendships can be a complicated process as it is a multifaceted topic with various
needs depending on the relationship you are dealing with. Many people are shy or diffident in
their abilities when it comes to social networks and do not know where to start when interacting
with others. There are plenty of guides and words of advice that focus on romantic relationships
and being a better partner, but what is often left out is how to be a better friend. Even looking
within friendships, though, there are various, complex aspects of it, ranging from the degree of
similarity between two people to the extent of honesty and trust between them. But what these
facets are rooted upon is expression how to express these similarities, how to convey trust and
loyalty, how to reveal appreciation, and so on. In a sense, then, the foundation of friendship is
communication. As a result, this guide will focus on the nuanced aspects of communication in order
to facilitate strong friendships. Delving into this sphere and explaining the critical, applicable

After I was finally able to get up from the bed, I woke the children up to get ready so we could

Minutes later we were able to spot the Island, so we all headed back to our vehicles as we
approached Ocaracoke. Once we reached the dock, we waited in the van until it was our turn to exit.
Once we had departed the ferry, we continued south on Highway 12. We passed several
restaurants and gift shops on our way. There were people walking and riding bikes along the
sides of the road as we drove past. It was not very long before we had reached the southern tip of
the Island, so we turned around on Highway 12 and started heading back north towards the ferry.
Along the way we decided to stop by one of the gift shops called The Pirates Chest. We all went
inside to look around. The shop was filled with little knick knacks, toys, shells, etc. We let each of
the children pick them out something, paid the cashier and we were on our way again.
Before we reached the ferry, we made one more stop by The Dipping Dots for some ice cream.
The shop had all sorts of goodies, including cakes, brownies, fudge and candy. The children walked

Religious Conflicts In Reuven s The Chosen

Among these conflicts the concept of what to do with the holy land has very different perspectives

Reform Judaism focuses on, change and growth, scientific inquiry, critical evaluation and is looked

The Complexity of the Kidney
Land, E.

Prof Lisa Nelson
The Complexity of the Kidney
Kidneys are complex organs that are very important when it comes to the many functions to help
maintain the health of the body. This includes the maturation of the red blood cells, regulation of
blood pressure as well as secretion of hormones. The Secondary functions of the filtration effect the
controlling of the acid base balance in the body, and maintaining bone health (livingstrong.com).
Kidney structure include the renal corpuscle that filters the blood, passing of urine, and different
tubules (comprised of a dowman s capsule and glomerulus). The renal corpuscle are made of ...

In addition the nephron is divided into several segments. The Henie cell includes a special
transporter called sodium potassium 2, chloride contransporter (nkcc) that allows the kidney to
produce urine (biology.com). The distal tubule cell help contain thiazide sensitive sodium
filtered by the kidney on a daily basis, and the collecting duct that have two cells responsible for
acid base hemostasis. The alpha intercalated cell controls the excess of secretion and reabsorbing
base (form of bicarbonates) and the beta intercalated cell which includes the same function
(biology.com). Every day the kidney s filter on an average of about 120 to 150 quarts of blood
that produces 1 to 2 quarts of urine that has extra fluid and waste. The importance of the kidney is
to keep the blood stable so the body can function properly. The fluids that are removed from the
body help prevent blood cells and large molecules (proteins) from passing. Once filtered it can pass
through the tubule that sends minerals back into the blood stream to remove waste (niddk.nih.gov).
If the kidney functions properly it regulates the retention of fluids in the body. It balances the
chemicals like potassium for the heart and muscle function. It can also maintain acid balance and
proteins. Hormones in the kidney stimulate activity in the body, renin erythropoietin, and a form of
vitamin D. Renin helps to control blood pressure. The kidney also releases the erythropoietin to help

Sealcoating Research Paper
How Sealcoating Protects Your Asphalt Driveway
If you want to maintain the rich color and smooth surface of your asphalt driveway, then you
should have a sealcoat applied to it regularly over its lifespan. A sealcoat is a protective layer that
keeps the asphalt from degrading, fading, and cracking. Here s what you should know about
sealcoating.
Why Asphalt Deteriorates
Your asphalt driveway will last a long time, but it will probably start to show signs of wear in a
couple of years if you don t have sealcoating applied. That s because asphalt is susecptble to
damage from freezing temperatures, rain, and UV rays. Oil and gas leaks can also cause a
chemical reaction with asphalt that causes it to weaken. Also, if you park a heavy truck or ... Show

It keeps gas and oil from coming into direct contact with the asphalt. It also seals the asphalt so
rain can t seep into it, freeze, expand, and create potholes. Sealcoating also keeps the surface of your
driveway a fresh, dark color so it is more attractive. It s important to remember that your driveway
is much more than a layer of asphalt. The asphalt is just the top part of bed of compacted dirt and
aggregate.
The purpose of asphalt is to bind the aggregate together and keep it from washing away in the
rain. It has an elastic quality that allows it to expand and contract with the weather. This places a
lot of stress on the asphalt layer of your driveway, and the sealcoat offers some relief from this
stress. By protecting the asphalt layer, the sealcoat helps prolong the life of your driveway.
How Sealcoating Is Applied
A contractor can apply sealcoating with a spray canister so it goes on like spray paint. He or she

Essay On Demand Of Fruits And Vegetables
Demand of Fruits and their prices
Aim and Objective of this study:
As the Indian population is increasing, the demand for fresh fruits and vegetables is also
increasing. Owing to the perishable nature and very short shelf life, these items require storage and
transportation facilities in order to reach to the customer in fresh state. This requires a considerable
amount of effort from the involved parties. The entire chain is fraught with issues like lack of
transparency in pricing (at the farmers end), dominance of traders, weak links in supply chain, etc.
This leads to loss of revenue to the farmer and increased additional costs to the other supply chain
partners, which ultimately enforces the final consumer to bear extra burden on his ... Show more

and 13 percent of the export earnings attributable to major agricultural products.
3. The major tropical fruits grown in India include mango, banana, guava, pineapple, papaya and
lychee, with lesser production of sapota, jackfruit, phalsa, annona and ber (Table 1). Tropical

Essay On Moment Of Self Discovery
My moment of self discovery was a coincidence. It was August 13th and it occurred right after
my shift was over in Burger King. It started when I was going to Liberty bell gas station to hang
out with my friends Julia and Deanne. They were two liberty bell regulars because they always
bought cigarettes or loosies from liberty and they were pretty hard to miss. Julia was pale and
had green hair but a green that resembled the statue of liberty. I met her through Deanne around
January of 2017 and I liked how easy going she was. Deanne, on the other hand, was a brunette
with a blonde highlight in the front of her hair. I met Deanne through her ex boyfriend Aj, who
was also a close friend. Deanne was from the suburbs and she moved to Philadelphiain August of
2016. I resided in philadelphia for 8 years and I hated how everyone is connected to each other
there. I did quite a good job removing my ties from people I didn t want to be connected to. The
day I had my moment of self discovery I ran into a few people I cut ties with. When I met up with
Deanne and Julia, I seen an old friend Jessica and her cousin at Liberty bell. I was friends with her
in 5th grade but I had to stop being her friend because we were going opposite directions in life.
Jessica came up to me and said, Moe are you down to smoke with us . I went over to deanne and
julia and I asked you down to do it . Deanne replied yea we re down . We walked with Jessica and
her cousin to an alleyway. It was kind of

Essay about Billy Budd
BILLY BUDD
There are many ways you can argue if the novel Billy Budd was a good novel or a bad one. You
can determine this by looking at such things as plot, character, and the use of language. The book
is about a sailor that has been impressed (the act of forcibly taking sailors and making them serve
in the navy) by the British navy. It is set in the late 1700 s during the French Revolution which
overthrew the anarchy, addressed peoples concerns, and it was mainly a focus on human rights. The
Revolution also influenced the way sailors thought because of the mutinies at Spit head and Nor.
And due to Billy s notable qualities he became the handsome sailor(the natural leader of the crew).
Also since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it can make it more exciting because you know where they would be on the boat and you
know if a person can be maybe close to falling off the boat. The plot was also interesting because
you know that the people on the boat are far away from land so if anything happens such as a
low supply of food then you know they most likely will not be able to get back to land to
replenish their food supply. It is just mainly interesting because you know that they, for the most
part; are cut off from society, because they have no way of contacting them. They did not have
things like cell phones or anything then so they had to rely on each other.
The novel was not so great due to some of the characters. Mr. Claggart to be more specific. The
role he played was the ships master at arms. But the cruel nature of the man was taken a little to
far. Making you more wonder why he was yelling at some one and at some times making the book
a little more confusing than it should had been. If you have no clue why a character is yelling at
another character you are more confused then anything. And when you did know what he was
yelling at someone for you where still confused because the reason he was yelling at some one was
probably ridiculous, instead of just.
Another reason why the novel was not so

Analyse the effects of domestic and global free trade and protection policies on the Australian
economy
Free trade is the unrestricted purchase and sale of goods and services between countries without
the imposition of protection such as tariffs and quotas. This enables economies to focus on their
core competitive advantage(s), thereby maximizing economic output and fostering income
growth for their citizens. Australian exports rose from $66.6 billion in 1990 91 to $300.4 billion
in 2012 13, with an average growth in export volumes of 4.6 per cent per annum since 1990 91.
This is reflective of Australia s proactive actions to phase out protection since the 1970s. The major

Unfortunately, there has been poor progress in reducing agricultural protection in recent years. In
fact, if global trade liberalisation was achieved by the WTO s Doha Round, it could have boosted
Australia s agricultural exports by US$9 billion by 2020; thus displaying how highly protectionist
economies and trade blocs adversely affect the Australian economy.
Since Australia s first free trade agreement (FTA) with New Zealand in 1983, Bilateral and
Multilateral FTA s have been a great advantage and focus in securing economic prosperity for
Australia. Australia s two way trade in goods and services was A$616 bn in 2012. Australia has
seven FTAs currently in force with New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, US, Chile, ASEAN (with
New Zealand) and Malaysia. Together, these countries account for 28% of Australia s total trade,
which displays the great benefit of bilateral FTAs to the Australian economy. Additionally, there are
four bilateral FTA negotiations currently in place, two of which are substantial trading partners;
China, being Australia s largest export market (A$78.7 bn) and Japan, being Australia s second
largest export market (A$49.8 bn). The Japanese Free Trade Agreement has been negotiated, and
will be a great benefit to the Australian economy, especially the agricultural sector, for example

The Aspects Of Roman Life Regarding Music
The feelings that the Ancient Romans had towards music could be described as ambivalent. They
admired it and at the same time, they condemned it. Music, nevertheless, played a role in Roman
society that, as time passed, became less and less important to the Romans. As a result, much of the
information about music in Ancient Romehas been lost in time. However what has been discovered
about this topic is quite fascinating, in spite of what it is lacking. The subsequent paragraphs will
explain some of the aspects of Roman life regarding music. This includes the history of music in
Ancient Rome, the instruments that the Romans played, the uses of music in their society and the
impact that music in Rome has had on the music of today. The Romans were not the most
innovative of ancient cultures when it came to music, as it wasn t held to the same importance in
Rome as it was in other cultures. Regardless, the Romans did very much enjoy music and admire its
use in other cultures. And so, instead of creating a Roman version of music, they borrowed the
musical instruments and musical theory from those other cultures. One of them was Etruscans.
Though the fact that the Etruscans had an impact on music in Rome is known, the magnitude of
that impact is unknown, but instruments used in Roman life such as the tuba and the cornu are
believed to have been borrowed from the Etruscans. However, it was the Greeks that had the
greatest influence on Roman music. A multitude of instruments used

shunt catheter were managed. Their ages at operation were ranged from 10 months to 17 years
(table 1). All patients were investigated, diagnosed and managed laporoscopically. The median
operative time of the laparoscopic procedure varied according to the diagnosis. It was 120 minutes
in abdominal pseudocysts, 45 minutes in recurrent congenital inguinal hernias, 100 minutes in
adhesive intestinal obstruction and 35 minutes in subcutaneous cyst. All patients were completed

Our series reinforces the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic management for distal catheter
complications. The advantages of the laparoscopic approach include a shorter hospital stay because
of less postoperative pain. The catheter is positioned under direct vision with less bowel
manipulation, thus reducing the risk of bowel injury and the development of adhesions(3).
Laparoscopy allows us to replace the shunts in the abdominal cavity under direct visual guidance
and cut them to appropriate size if necessary.
In addition, laparoscopy is a diagnostic tool that can be used to exclude any other intra abdominal
process possibly causing abdominal pain. Laparoscopy can be repeated several times in case of
further complications because it is less invasive. This is not the case with laparotomy, which is
more traumatic (3).
The potential problem that has been raised is retrograde leakage of carbon dioxide into the
ventricle. This was not recognized in our series and has not been reported previously. A recent in
vitro study found that none of the valves tested showed any signs of leak associated with
increased gaseous back pressure below a pressure of 80 mm

Major Lifestyles Of The Northern And Southern Colonies
Major Lifestyles Distinctions in the Northern and Southern Colonies
In the early history of the United States, 13 colonies were founded by English settlers. The main
reasons European colonist came to America were, looking for freedom of religion or seeking
economic opportunity. The first colony funded was Virginia in 1607, and the last was Georgia in
1733. Each colony was founded for a unique reason, but were all very similar. However, what
begins with small a population, become in a short time a large, a diverse and complex society.
Consequently, obvious differences emerged between the Northern and Southern colonies. Four of
these major distinctions were economy, religion, education and slavery.

EDUCATION:
In the New England, public education was available. For the Puritans, read and write was very
important, otherwise they would not be able read the Bible. For this reason, each community had
one teacher. However, educations was available more for male boys than for female girls. Later on,
education becomes spreads in the Northern colonies.
In the south, due to the distances between farms, public school were very difficult to access. Then,
children were educated at home by either one, private tutors or parents. Once again, boys were
educated to become successful businessmen, while girls were educated to get enough social skill to
attract a husband and run a household.

The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of the Family
The Functionalists see the family as an important and vital institution in society. They take a
MACRO view and look at interdependence between the family and other organisations.
Functionalists look at the positive parts to society but overlook the negatives. They emphasise on
the value consensus and see the family as being universal. Other people s outlooks disagree with
this view, such as the Marxists, the Marxist Feminists and the Radical Feminists.
Item B describes the way in which functionalists view the functional pre requisites or the essentials
of societies if they are to survive. Functionalists writers such as ... Show more content on

An example of such a group are the Kibbutz. The Israeli Kibbutz is a form of commune, and is one
of the most famous and successful attempts to establish an alternative to the family. Here, the
emphasis is on collective child rearing, the community as a whole taking over the tasks of the
family. Murdock does not consider diversity when considering these pre requisites.
Functionalists also believe in value consensus. It is the idea which suggests that the role of
agencies such as the family is to socialise members of society into shared norms and values, which
is the basis for social order. Primary socialisation completes this value consensus. Parsons was an
American functionalist writer who examined family life in the 1950s. He argued that there are two
basic functions of the family that are found in every society. These are the primary socialisation of
children and the stabilisation of human personalities. Parson believes that this socialisation in the
family is so powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality
people are moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost
without thinking about it. Parsons therefore argues that families are like factories producing human
personalities, and only the family can provide the emotional warmth and security to achieve this.

Argumentative Essay On Freedom Of Religion
As we have established, freedom of religion is protected by the first amendment. This amendment
is divided between two clauses, the Establishment clause, and the Free exercise clause. While the
latter allows individuals to exercise freely their religious beliefs, the former prevents the
government to impose a federal religionand prevents coercion upon a religious belief. Even
though these protections exist in reality they are easily overcome by compelling government
interest . The first amendment hasn t been very efficient when facing claims of Native
Americans, unsurprisingly this is fully in line with the prior decisions concerning their rights.
A problem arises linked with the scope of the freedom of religion clause. As we know it protects
religions, the question is then what is considered as a religion for it to be protected by the first
amendment? As we have said previously, the courts have a tendency to adopt a Judeo Christian
point of view when determining whether a religion is protected by the first amendment. The
question is whether the place given to sacred sites in the Native American beliefs will rather be
understood as a cultural use. Since courts don t protect these lands it seems that they don t
consider it as part of a religious belief, but rather as part of a cultural use, offering monetary
damages instead of protecting it, as in US v Sioux Nation of Indians. A reason that may explain the
position adopted by the courts may be that Indian beliefs seem to

Outsourcing Of The National Labor Committee Thinks Otherwise
American companies and their products, have increasingly been pursed to be manufactured abroad.
This however is one of the biggest discrepancies we confront within our economy. Although many
businesses argue this is beneficial in order for them to turn a higher profit and be successful, the
National Labor Committee thinks otherwise. Outsourcinghas become one of the leading factors in
product recalls, exploitation of workers, and a major contributor to the unemployment statistics in
the US. Although outsourcing is a contributor to mass production and a products supply and demand
growth, it has also been known for some of the largest product recalls. In the largest product recall
in China in 2008, the baby formula of Sanlu (the largest company in the industry by volume was
found to contain melamine originated from contaminated milk supply outsourced to local farmers.
(Lu, Ng, Tao, 2012, p. 2). Lu, Ng, Tao simplify the term outsourcing by expressing how
Outsourcing involves contracting with external suppliers for the delivery of parts and components
with pre specified quality levels. (Lu, Ng, Tao, 2012, p. 2). This is a clear indication that product
quality is never fully tested when outsourcing. Quality controllers are given a general guideline to
aby with, and once met the product may be produced. As a consumer there is nothing more
important than a products quality and reputation. It would be ethically unfair to a consumer to save

Essay Social Contract
The Social Contract
Rousseau s principal aim in writing The Social Contract is to determine how freedom may be
possible in civil society, and we might do well to pause briefly and understand what he means by
quot;freedom. quot; In the state of nature we enjoy the physical freedom of having no restraints
on our behavior. By entering into the social contract, we place restraints on our behavior, which
make it possible to live in a community. By giving up our physical freedom, however, we gain the
civil freedom of being able to think rationally. We can put a checkon our impulses and desires, and
thus learn to think morally. The term quot;morality quot; only has significance within the confines

Thus, the group collectively is more important than each individual that makes it up. The sovereign
and the general will are more important than its subjects and their particular wills. Rousseau goes so
far as to speak of the sovereign as a distinct individual that can act of its own accord.
We might react to these arguments with serious reservations, and indeed, Rousseau has been
accused of endorsing totalitarianism. We live in an age where individual rights are considered
vitally important, and it is insulting to think that we are just small parts of a greater whole. Rather
than make freedom possible, it would seem to us that Rousseau s system revokes freedom.
Rousseau would not take these charges lying down, however. Looking at us in the new millennium,
he might suggest that we are not free at all. On the whole, we may lack any kind of personal agency
or initiative. We often have difficulty interacting with one another in any meaningful way, and it
could be argued that our decisions and behavior are largely dictated to us by a consumer culture that
discourages individual thought.
His system, he might claim, only seems unattractive to us because we have totally lost the
community spirit that makes people want to be together. Citizens in his ideal republic are not
forced into a community: they agree to

Hiroshima Bombing Critique
Despite having our eyes wide open, we failed to actually see the world. Susan Neiman s article
caught me completely off guard. Even as someone who grew up outside of the United States, I
was taught educated by my teachers that the Atomic bombs, which exploded in Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, were the most crucial elements that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II.
Many US historians also argued that the bomb not only hasten hastens the end of the war, but also
saved almost a million American soldiers who could have died if the war was to continue.
However, Neiman pointed out sharply in her article that the US did not drop the (atomic) bomb in
order to end the war or save lives. (Neiman, 12) Through unclassified historical evidence,... Show

However, this is a logic logical fallacy that confuses our understanding in my opinion. First,
there is a fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary
citizens of Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese
troops invaded several countries, but should primary school children who had just began
grasping the world be held accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent
schoolgirls, the uninvolved foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the
Jews? Second, even if we consider the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference
between civilians and soldiers during war time, discrediting Japanese citizens through
comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90) To illustrate, a drunk driver should be
held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if it an old man or a kidnapper.
The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the victim s identity.
Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of Hiroshima a
virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the difference
between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet effective
process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision. As we
constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to recognise
the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50 years.
(Neiman, 23) Meanwhile the US interests are well served through promoting the picture of simple
evil, the great lost lies in the ignorance of the general

CONCLUSION
Since the late 2009, the famous vehicle manufacture Toyota has suffered a severe crisis due to
unintended quality problems in its cars. This had triggered Toyota s largest officially recalls of
nearly 9 million vehicles all over the world. This crisis has threatened the company s previous
reputation of building good quality and reliable cars, as well as damaging its brand image built

Mediation Is An Effective Method Of Dispute Resolution
One of the most peaceful and highly sought after ways of resolving conflict is mediation. It is the
process where a mutually acceptable third party, with no authority to make descisions, intervenes
and helps involved parties improve their relationships, enhance communication, and use effective
problem solving and negotiation procedures to reach mutually understanding or agreement.
Based on the current research found, mediation is an effective method of dispute resolution. In
studies prior to 1990, the reported settlement rate was approximately 60 percent and for the 1990

For example, in the case study we did in lecture, many a times the reasons behind another person s
actions is not solely because of money, but rather by principles and values that were violated by the
other party. Hence when one party understands the circumstances and personal reasons certain
actions were made by another, movement from entrenched positions become more possible.
Lastly, once they are able to air their moral framework, and come to a common solution, the end
result would be parties feeling psychologically more complete and satisfied. According to an
article by Dr Pinzon Salcedo (2002), that by not having a deeper reflection of one s true purpose in
the mediation process, close to 25% of participants who reach an agreement still express
dissatisfaction.
On one of the mediation discussions we had, we realised that as the facts behind each party s
anger and resentment were not provided, this always leaves the opposite party feeling confused
and frustrated by the behaviour of the aggrieved person. Upon having a sharing of their moral
framework privately or openly, the mediation moves from the realm of physical demands, to
really addressing the root of the problem behind any hostilities. Therefore, when a successful
mediation occurs, both parties are psychologically more at peace with the decisions that are being
made. This is large in part due to their own form justice or beliefs are being satisfied as

Admiral Alfred T. Mahan s Doctrine Of The Strategic Airpower
The United States would industrialize, optimism about how Americas fighting ability was
focused on superior weaponry. With the turn of the century, Admiral Alfred T. Mahan s doctrine
of Sea Power emphasizing the use of a more modernized fleet promised swift and total victory.
Then in the 1920 s and the 1930 s General Billy Mitchell of the Army Air Service helped to
develop the doctrine of the Strategic Airpower as a technological means to achieve quick and
total victory. In World War two, in response to the outrageous and tragic and unexpected Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor and in a crusade against Fascism, Americans waged war on land, sea and
air, to include the ultimate nuclear bombing of urban areas to achieve decisive victory and finally

A Byzantine Fault
Introduction
Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents
different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form
the reason for the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure
may occur due to arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect
outputs or by processing requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or
stopping. The ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault
tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance.
A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine
Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar
with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most
common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals
problem and providing a possible solution to that problem.
My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various
fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics
and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge
loss of resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task

Spiritism Analysis
During the semester, in the course Humanity 2.0, the class looked to many perspectives to try to
understand what means to be human. The sources we used were the most ancient epic myth known
by human society, the views from a behavioral primatologist, a Jewish philosopher, a theologian,
and two novels. These resources helped us in class to think critically about the authors works, about
our own concepts, beliefs, and about the humans relationships, actions, and what might drives us
towards to our behaviors. These sources of knowledge brought to discussion many subjects around
our emotions, such as fear, proud, anger, kindness. We also talked about our capacity to be
aggressive, to be empathetic, to be sexual, to imagine, to create explanations... Show more content

Therefore, the beliefs we have in life have a huge effect in how we face our adversities, and behave.
I can use myself, and my personal religious beliefs as an example of it. My religious background
from my family is based in Christian Catholic, but also form Spiritism. The Spiritism is not a
official religion, it is a spiritualistic doctrine based on the studies of Allan Kardec, that is why is
called Kardecist Spiritualism Doctrine. This is doctrine based in the studies of philosophy, and
physics, which is inspired by non incarnated spirits. It says that all of living being have souls
who have multiple reincarnations to become more evolved. It says that when we die, our body
stays on this material world, and our spirit goes to a spiritual world, which is where we
understand our lives on Earth, and start to be ready for the next life, or choose to help the
others, incarnated or non incarnated. This religious view affect in a huge way my life, and I treat
the others. It helps me to be more accepting, kind, open minded, less aggressive, and self critical.
In the Spiritism, we belief in the universal law the return. Every good or bad attitude, thoughts, or
energies that you do comes back to you at some point. We are being with free will tied to the law of

Richard Donaldson s Richard Is At Hand
After reading Cinema and the Kingdom of Death by Peter Donaldson s I narrowed my attention to
one section Richard is at Hand . Donaldson talks about McKellen s adaptation by starting off with
a very important scene in the beginning of the film that shows how McKellen included media into
Shakespeare s play. Donaldson talks about mass media in the play by including The Work of Art in
the Age of Mechanical Reproduction by Walter Benjamin.
The first scene of the film starts off with a message being received on a machine, RICHARD
GLOUCESTER IS AT HAND. HE HOLDS HIS COURSE TOWARD TEWKESBURY (Donaldson

Animalization and Identity in Maus
Art Spiegelman utilizes animals as characters in Maus to great effect. His decision to use animals
instead of people is an important one; by representing racial and national groups in a non normative
fashion, he focuses the reader s attention on the concept of identity, a concept that is often times
entirely taken for granted. Identity, and the process by which one s identity may be formed, is
multi faceted. On occasion, this can be simple. For instance, Vladek is Jewish, and identifies as
such, even admittedly conforming to a good deal of the stereotypes, such as miserliness, and is
descended from a long line of Jews However, even for someone like Vladek, who never for a
moment questions his identity in point of fact, the matter of identity can become complicated;
there are times when he has to disguise himself as a gentile Pole to avoid racist persecution and for
reasons of survival, making the transformation from mouse to pig in the context of the graphic
memoir. During this time of disguise, the transformation is visually rendered by Spiegelman by
having Vladek put on a pig mask; Spiegelman, as an artist, takes full advantage of his character s
animalization: species are easily identified, and subsequently categorized by the human mind
quickly. For others, however, their identities are not so fixed, not so firmly established. The author
s wife, Francois, is French, but

The Funding and How It Would Be Used
Measure J on the Sonoma County ballot would have funded Sonoma County parks in
Unincorporated parts of Sonoma County. A successful vote for Measure J would have generated
nearly $100 million over the next 10 years, providing funds to make significant improvements to the
county s parks in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. There are more than 50 parks, trails
and beaches in our county and they are entirely under funded. The last budget increase for our
parks was in 2014 and the budget only increased from $8 million to $14 million. The funds from
Measure J would have increased the budget by $9.5 million per year. The budget increase that

Campaign Work I worked for twelve hours at a phone bank calling voters to promote passage of
Measure J. This was the second time I have done that for a Sonoma County initiative.
Volunteering for the phone bank, I already knew what to expect (lists of phone numbers and
names, scripts to use, and the people I would mostly be talking to, provided they answered the
phone.) This was more than an assignment for me, however. This is something I feel truly
passionate about because I use these parks regularly. All in all, I made about 200 calls to various
people in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. Most of the calls I made ended with me
leaving a voicemail message. Approximately 20 percent of them were answered. I was usually
able to read the whole script, which took about 15 20 seconds to read. I was so eager to share
this information that I had to force myself to slow down so that people could understand what I
was saying. Of the calls that were answered only a few people cut me off to say their minds were
already made up on the issue. Ironically, the people that let me finish were generally older and
already planned to vote yes for the measure. I thought the younger people who use the park would
be more passionate about the issue, yet it was the elderly who seemed to care. Some people

Medical Field Application Essay
I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. I recall being around
the age of four or five and my mom asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I answered
without hesitation that I wanted to be a doctor. I know at that age I did not know much more
about being a doctor other than simply they took care of sick people. As I got older, I chose to
be a doctor for babies and children, which at first was for the simple fact that I loved babies and
children. I was always researching and reading up on medical books and journals. I wanted to know
everything about the healthcare field from the history of medicineto the most current medical
findings. I was always curious about various illnesses and diseases, what caused them, and the
symptoms and treatment. When I was in my late teens, I interviewed a local pediatrician for a
research paper in college and realized right then and there that I wanted to go into nursing for a
more hands on approach to the medical field. I did really well in my classes at the local
community college so that I could transfer into East Carolina University for their Bachelor of
Science Nursing program. However, right before I was set to move to Greenville, North Carolina
to attend East Carolina University, my younger brother was in a near fatal car accident. The night

Why People Should Stay In Stillness Research Paper
Let s say, I ask you to sit for 10 minutes in the room without doing anything . Not do anything
physically, not check your phone, not think of things you need to do, not plan. Just be.
There are probably two things that could happen. Either you won t be able to sit still for 10
minutes. If you can, you will want to know why you need to sit in stillness when you have so many
things to do.
We live in a world where our to do lists are long and our time and energy are limited. It is then not
surprising then that we are surrounded by people who feel that they are constantly running against
the clock. Keeping busy. Trying to get more done. And constantly struggling to do so. I constantly

Sometimes when we see others around us do something we start to believe we need to do it too.
Because it is the right thing or the in thing, or the appropriate thing to do. I know of parents who
cram their child s day with so many extracurricular activities because they believe it is important
without even judging the if their child really needs it. We also do things to keep up with society,
friends, and family even if it involves doing things that hold no meaning for us or give us any
satisfaction. We refuse to prioritize, let go and accept things and mostly live off others beliefs of
what we need/want.
Success and busyness can be the tortoise and hare story
Contrary to what most people believe being busy is not the same as being an achiever. Yes, some
achievers are busy people but they are focussed on doing only things that are a priority. Long term
success is also strongly linked to being able to think clearly and deeply about your plans and ideas.
Its not enough to be busy, so are the ants. What are we busy about? Henry David Thoreau

it cannot be so. Given this if you had to focus on only a few things what would they

Should The Government Surveillance Of Internet Privacy
The internet is a vast global interconnected network enabling numerous people to access countless
information and communicate with others miles away. When browsing the web nowadays,
however, many forget what’s really happening behind the scenes. Internet cookies and
complex algorithms are being downloaded behind your back allowing big brand companies and
even the federal governmentto track what the people are doing. This is a major violation to our
right to privacywhich is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable
for the government to have a substantial amount of surveillance of the internetto monitor terrorists
and people seeking to cause harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is
absurdly large and unnecessary. Overall, surveillance and order must be maintained throughout the

Marketing is the action or business of promoting and selling goods or services. A person who

Secondary sources of information are those sources that have been derived from the primary
sources and have been refined, some of them even copyrighted or even published. The secondary
sources of information that might be present in the Motorola Company include journals or
magazines that may be analyzing and interpreting findings by the company about its marketing
strengths or weaknesses. This can be important as they can summarize previous evaluations or
surveys done by the company, hence helping it in its marketing plans strategies. Another type of
secondary source of information for the company is the history books that it owns. These books
show a history of what the company was doing a given number of years ago. Looking at the
Motorola Company, it was one of the best mobile phone manufacturers around ten years ago.
However, it has been overtaken by a number of companies lately due to poor marketing. This
history books can help in the recovering of such a company as the old ways that the companies
used to get ahead of its competitors can be used to its improvement. The last type of secondary
sources of information is a written analysis and report on the performance of a company. This can
be done after analysis of a previously done survey. This can be useful for the Motorola Company to
identify its weaknesses, hence correct

Pros And Cons Of The Nuremberg War Trial
Beverley McLachlin, the 2007 Chief Justice of Canada, once said, The most advanced justice
system in the world is a failure if it does not provide justice to the people it is meant to serve.
The Nuremberg War Trial has been considered the most significant as well as the most debatable
event in military law history. To those who support the trial it promises the first effective
recognition of a world law for the punishment of criminals who start wars or conduct inhuman acts
during them. To the opposing critics the trial appears in many aspects a denial of legal ethics
which they regard as the heart of any system of justice under law.

Most significantly, the German defendants at Nuremberg were being tried for several categories of
offense that had no precedent under international law creating ex post facto charge, meaning that
the defendants were indicted for something that was not a crime until after they had committed it.
At the time that the German officials on trial committed the various atrocities for which they were
charged, no international law specifically banned their actions. The prosecution was therefore able
to construct their charges to maximize the rate of conviction. Most national legal codes, including
the law of the United States, require that a crime must have been illegal at the time the act was
committed in order to charges to be pressed. The major focuses of the prosecution were crimes
against the peace, crimes against humanity, war crimes, organizations, and conspiracy. Of all these,
only war crimes was a clearly recognized category under pre existing international law.
War crimes jurisprudence was based on The Hague and Geneva conventions, and narrowly
governed the treatment of foreign soldiers and civilians during wartime. Technically, the only war
crimes committed by the Germans involved the treatment of Allied prisoners of war and of the
populations of conquered

The Role of Istambul on Modern Literature
Istanbul plays an important role in all kinds of art. It is especially important in literature. There
are a lot of books set in Istanbul and we can also talk about famous writers who were inspired by
the Istanbul views and who wrote beautiful stories because of Istanbul. There is also another group
of writers, who were born and who wrote or write their works here, in Istanbul. This, of course, has
its own print and meaning, because living in such a beautiful and great city like Istanbul cannot not
to affect writers works. When we talk about literature and Istanbul, we also have to mention famous
writers and poets that wrote their stories and books in this city. Istanbul has a rich story, there have
lived a lot of writers from the Ottoman Empiretill nowadays. There were writers not only from the
common people, but also from the Sultans. For example, Ottoman emperor Suleiman the
Magnificent, who moved to Constantinople after the death of his father, was also an accomplished
poet, he wrote his poems in both Persian and Turkish languages. His most famous verse under the
pen name Muhibbi is this:
The people think of wealth and power as the greatest fate,
But in this world a spell of health is the best state.
Wha men call sovereignty is a worldly strife and constant war;
Worship of God is the highest throne, the happiest of all estates.
Another famous Turkish writer who was both born in Istanbul and wrote about Istanbul is Orhan
Veli KanД±k (1914 1950).

Fraud Examination
Chapter 1
Discussion Questions
1.Fraud always involves deception, confidence, and trickery. The following is one of the most
common definitions of fraud:
Fraud is a generic term, and embraces all the multifarious means which human ingenuity can
devise, which are resorted to by one individual, to get an advantage over another by false
representations. No definite and invariable rule can be laid down as a general proposition in
defining fraud, as it includes surprise, trickery, cunning and unfair ways by which another is
cheated. The only boundaries defining it are those which limit human knavery.
Fraud is deception that includes the following elements: 1. A representation 2. About a material

  • 2. Remember the Contributions of the First Sailors We must always remember with gratitude and admiration the first sailors who steered their vessels through storms and mists, and increased our knowledge of the land... Ronald Amundsen). Although not all explorers of the Pacific Northwest were sailors, all of them deserve to be honored because of the contribution their expeditions made to WA. The first non Indians that came to the Pacific Northwestwere most likely from China or Japan and drifted ashore by accident. After them, came European explorers and later, American explorers who traveled for many reasons like to find the Northwest Passageor because they were sent to learn information about the mysterious land. Some famous explorers of the Pacific Northwest include Lewis Clark, who were sent by Thomas Jefferson, Vitus Berling, which proved that Asia America were separate continents, and Robert Gray who claimed the Oregon territory; explorers like these their expeditions helped shape Washingtoninto what it is today. The explorers of the Pacific Northwest should be honored by having a monument built for them in their favor because they made several contributions to the development of Washington State, these contributions include making maps charts for the area, building forts, and bringing back detailed journals from (or of?) their expeditions To begin, one contribution explorers made for (or to?) Washington was making maps charts of the area, this was important because it helped later travelers find their way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Charles Darwin Social Influence One of the most influential thinkers in science, Charles Darwin was a man with an immense devotion to pursuing the relationship between himself and the world around him. In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s genuine interest in culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but also his behavioral observations and interpretations of the animals and peoples of the areas he visited (p.103). His inclination to find reason through observational and exploratory research cemented his contributions to the knowledge of human development. Darwin s theories are still at the forefront of psychological research, lecture, and debate, and are the basis for many different areas of study within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon. In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. The constant shift of environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts. This comparative approach has opened the doors to new ideas about behavior in humans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Safety Act Of The Stadium And The Facility Safety Goal: Facility Safety In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium and the facility, we have identified multiple potential vulnerabilities and steps to prevent a cyber attack that leads to harm to any person in the stadium or the stadium. Although the SAFETY Act prevents an entity from being held liable in the event of a terrorist attack, including a cyber terrorist attack, we believe it is in the best interest of the stadium to accept the following recommendations. This allows the stadium to create a safe and positive experience for all attendees. These recommendations include responses to potential vulnerabilities such as emergency systems, power grids, and electronic displays. Emergency Systems We believe that the emergency systems in stadiums are a vulnerability. One of the main areas of concern are the alarms in stadiums. If hackers are able to infiltrate the computer networks, there is a possibility of them being able to get access to the alarm management network and disable all of the alarms in a stadium. This could prove to be disastrous in the case of an actual emergency because there would be no way to notify attendees to evacuate the stadium, go on lockdown, or take any other precautions necessary in the case of an emergency. In order to prevent this, we propose that all stadiums keep all operating systems up to date. By doing so, this lessens the number of flaws in the operating system that can be taken advantage of by hackers to infiltrate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Did North Korea To Launch A Ballistic Missile Recently, many Eastern Asian countries have been faced with the facts that the D.P.R.K or in other words North Korea, can and may launch a ballistic missile at their homeland. North Korea has been in the missile making business for about five and a half decades, and working frantically to develop an ICBM or intercontinental ballistic missilethat can reach the mainland of the United States. The D.P.R.K s main goal is to continue testing and finally launch a missile at the United States. This can be tracked down to the time of Kim Il Sung, and Soviet influence. When North Koreafinally gets to the capacity, when they can launch an ICBM, they will not stop until the United States is destroyed. This is why North Korea will keep up their missile... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... North Korea appears to have ambitious plans for developing new long range missiles and has begun deploying new cruise missiles, short range tactical missiles, and unarmed aerial vehicles (UAVs) (McGrath). According to McGrath, North Korea has been developing several long range missiles that could destroy United States bases in the Pacific. The developing missiles could potentially be capable of a range of 7,000 to 9,500 kilometers and hold a 500 to 700 ton warhead. Recent, evidence suggests that North Korea is developing multi stage missiles which can travel much longer distances than a single stage missile. In addition to multi stage missiles, North Korea has been testing out solid fueled systems. Lastly, North Korea has the ambition to modernize their tactical and cruise ... • 6. Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. Many low income families in Philadelphia have limited funds from which to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website). They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one long table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and vegetables in the community. The Food Trust works with neighborhoods, schools, grocers, farmers and policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy food and to increase its availability. The Food Trust efforts with its partners resulted in the creation of the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. It was the nations first statewide financing program to increase supermarket development in underserved areas. The Food Trust is a nonprofit organization that continues to ensure that all children who live in communities have access to safe, healthy and affordable food. Their key goal of this project is to stimulate the development of supermarkets in lower income neighborhoods. There are large areas of Philadelphia with few supermarkets, and many neighborhoods where none exist. There is an uneven distribution of food in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the reformation, when Martin Luther (1483 1546) called the sacramental system of the medieval Roman church as the Babylonian Captivity of the Church , protestants had the tendency to distrust tradition . But the process of the Protestantismwas changing the meaning of faith from faith expectancy to faith doctrine. People even once attempted to verify one s position as a Christian by accepting correct creeds . Only when the era of Evangelicalism came, personal conversion was seen as a norm for Christians, there was an outburst of desires to have powerful, transforming personal encounters with God. Religion became a personal choice based on personal experience not just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From its theology, the central of the movement was an intense experience of being filled with the Spirit or of awakening to a new life through the transforming power of the Spirit. The process of charismatic spirituality was from Search, searching for the God who is revealed in Christ, to Encounter, encountering with the same God by means of the Holy Spirit, and then Transformation, being transformed or renewed as the consequences of the encountering experiences. From its practice, the charismatics had given a full expression to the importance of experience. Especially their personal and deep worship, the worshippers were given freedom to express a wide range of human sensibilities: singing, clapping, concert prayer, the praise choruses, and kinesthetic movements together provided avenues of expression. Besides it, a variety of modes of sensibility in their ritual, including celebration, contemplation, transcendental efficacy, penitent/purgation, ecstacy, improvisation (ritualization) and ceremony, helped to orient and animate their practices. Has Gillette been a victim of its own success? Has product innovation in the wet shaving market come to an end? Explain. While evaluating the product innovation at Gillette throughout its history, it is easy to relate to the companies ups and downs, as well as its struggles. Especially in the younger developmental years, we see the resilience of the company and the drive that was necessary in order to continue operations. These hardships pushed the company to continue to refine its product and mine for new innovations. It was stated that the Gillette Company lead the personal care and grooming industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, one upmanship can be deadly to both companies whom constantly try to outdo themselves and also offer better prices. The primary reason why this can be deadly is by cutting profit margins thinner and thinner. Ultimately price is what sells and item and not quality, especially if the quality is marginal. You don t have to go far to see this classical struggle. Gas stations are a prime example of one upmanship. Profit margins on gas are noted to be very thin. If you consider gas station prices on neighboring stations, they are typically very close if not the same. These stations have effectively locked themselves into a commitment to match or exceed their competitor s price in order to draw higher sales, because ultimately what sells gas at neighboring gas stations is the best price. 3.What actions would you recommend over the next five years that would help Gillette maintain its worldwide dominance in the shaving market? What specific marketing program discussions would you recommend? Should Gillette be worried about Schick? Explain. Over the next five years, it is recommended that Gillette continue innovation. Innovation is key in any market; you must continue to exceed customer expectation while continuing to meet basic needs. Over the next five years, it is also important to keep up with changes in market demands and also listening to consumer feedback. Marketing programs that involve getting guys to try their new ... Frans De Waal s describes how humans may think that animals are not as smart as we think, but they actually prove us wrong. Animals have their ways of performing tasks and accomplishing things they have to do. De Waal sets an elephant as an example and he states, Kandula ignored the sticks but, after a while, began kicking the box with his foot. He kicked it many times in a straight line until it was right underneath the branch. He then stood on the box with his front legs, which enabled him to reach the food with his trunk. An elephant, it turns out, can use tools if they are the right ones (De Waal 3). Just like humans, an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Montgomery s point of view was that octopus were characterized by their chameleon like skin color, textures and shape changes, to their eight armed coordination s, up to their playful intelligence. Sy stated, When I stroked her soft head with my fingertips, she changed color beneath my touch, her ruby flecked skin going white and smooth. This, I learned, is a sign of a relaxed octopus. An agitated giant Pacific octopus turns red, its skin gets pimply, and it erects two papillae over the eyes, which some divers say look like horns ( Montgomery 61). An octopus knows how to interact with the individual they come to contact with. Many may think that octopuses are not intelligent, but they are in so many ways. Love Medicine Louise Eldrich Analysis In the story, Love Medicine , the author, Louisa Eldrich, uses symbols and the Turkey heart is representative of many things presented in the story; Such as Grandpa s outlook on life, his relationship with Grandpa, Lulu and his battle with Alzheimer s. The turkey hearts represent grandpa s outlook on life. Grandpa s outlook on life regarding his relationship with Grandma is that he didn t want a second chance. There was no romance between them anymore. He did not find Grandma pretty anymore. In the text, it describes Grandma to a house: sagged and buldged on her slipped foundation. These lyrics aid in that ah ha moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful. The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio, every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their most popular song, House of Gold. Importance Of Identity In Things Fall Apart Finding Your Identity Having an identity and more importantly finding your identity is very important when it comes to finding and achieving your purpose in life. It is very difficult to find your purpose when you don t have a clear self identity. It also seals the asphalt so rain can t seep into it, freeze, expand, and create potholes. Sealcoating also keeps the surface of your driveway a fresh, dark color so it is more attractive. It s important to remember that your driveway is much more than a layer of asphalt. The asphalt is just the top part of bed of compacted dirt and aggregate. The purpose of asphalt is to bind the aggregate together and keep it from washing away in the rain. It has an elastic quality that allows it to expand and contract with the weather. This places a lot of stress on the asphalt layer of your driveway, and the sealcoat offers some relief from this stress. By protecting the asphalt layer, the sealcoat helps prolong the life of your driveway. How Sealcoating Is Applied A contractor can apply sealcoating with a spray canister so it goes on like spray paint. He or she could also apply it by hand and smooth it out with a squeegee. It doesn t take long to apply the sealcoat, but it does take a while to prep your driveway first. The asphalt must be clean and dry so the sealcoat will adhere properly. Also, all cracks must be filled and leveled out so they won t show through once the sealcoating is applied. Parson believes that this socialisation in the family is so powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality people are moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost without thinking about it. • 31. Argumentative Essay On Freedom Of Religion As we have established, freedom of religion is protected by the first amendment. This amendment is divided between two clauses, the Establishment clause, and the Free exercise clause. While the latter allows individuals to exercise freely their religious beliefs, the former prevents the government to impose a federal religionand prevents coercion upon a religious belief. Even though these protections exist in reality they are easily overcome by compelling government interest . The first amendment hasn t been very efficient when facing claims of Native Americans, unsurprisingly this is fully in line with the prior decisions concerning their rights. A problem arises linked with the scope of the freedom of religion clause. As we know it protects religions, the question is then what is considered as a religion for it to be protected by the first amendment? As we have said previously, the courts have a tendency to adopt a Judeo Christian point of view when determining whether a religion is protected by the first amendment. The question is whether the place given to sacred sites in the Native American beliefs will rather be understood as a cultural use. Since courts don t protect these lands it seems that they don t consider it as part of a religious belief, but rather as part of a cultural use, offering monetary damages instead of protecting it, as in US v Sioux Nation of Indians. A reason that may explain the position adopted by the courts may be that Indian beliefs seem to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although many businesses argue this is beneficial in order for them to turn a higher profit and be successful, the National Labor Committee thinks otherwise. Outsourcinghas become one of the leading factors in product recalls, exploitation of workers, and a major contributor to the unemployment statistics in the US. Although outsourcing is a contributor to mass production and a products supply and demand growth, it has also been known for some of the largest product recalls. By entering into the social contract, we place restraints on our behavior, which make it possible to live in a community. Thus, the group collectively is more important than each individual that makes it up. The sovereign and the general will are more important than its subjects and their particular wills. Rousseau goes so far as to speak of the sovereign as a distinct individual that can act of its own accord. We might react to these arguments with serious reservations, and indeed, Rousseau has been accused of endorsing totalitarianism. We live in an age where individual rights are considered vitally important, and it is insulting to think that we are just small parts of a greater whole. Rather than make freedom possible, it would seem to us that Rousseau s system revokes freedom. Rousseau would not take these charges lying down, however. Looking at us in the new millennium, he might suggest that we are not free at all. On the whole, we may lack any kind of personal agency or initiative. We often have difficulty interacting with one another in any meaningful way, and it could be argued that our decisions and behavior are largely dictated to us by a consumer culture that discourages individual thought. Even as someone who grew up outside of the United States, I was taught educated by my teachers that the Atomic bombs, which exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were the most crucial elements that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II. Many US historians also argued that the bomb not only hasten hastens the end of the war, but also saved almost a million American soldiers who could have died if the war was to continue. First, there is a fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary citizens of Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese troops invaded several countries, but should primary school children who had just began grasping the world be held accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent schoolgirls, the uninvolved foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the Jews? Second, even if we consider the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference between civilians and soldiers during war time, discrediting Japanese citizens through comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90) To illustrate, a drunk driver should be held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if it an old man or a kidnapper. The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the victim s identity. Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of Hiroshima a virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the difference between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet effective process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision. As we constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to recognise the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50 years. It is the process where a mutually acceptable third party, with no authority to make descisions, intervenes and helps involved parties improve their relationships, enhance communication, and use effective problem solving and negotiation procedures to reach mutually understanding or agreement. Based on the current research found, mediation is an effective method of dispute resolution. In studies prior to 1990, the reported settlement rate was approximately 60 percent and for the 1990 2000 decade, the reported rate on average was 75 percent . Lastly, once they are able to air their moral framework, and come to a common solution, the end result would be parties feeling psychologically more complete and satisfied. According to an article by Dr Pinzon Salcedo (2002), that by not having a deeper reflection of one s true purpose in the mediation process, close to 25% of participants who reach an agreement still express dissatisfaction. On one of the mediation discussions we had, we realised that as the facts behind each party s anger and resentment were not provided, this always leaves the opposite party feeling confused and frustrated by the behaviour of the aggrieved person. Upon having a sharing of their moral framework privately or openly, the mediation moves from the realm of physical demands, to really addressing the root of the problem behind any hostilities. A fault that presents different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance. A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals problem and providing a possible solution to that problem. My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. His decision to use animals instead of people is an important one; by representing racial and national groups in a non normative fashion, he focuses the reader s attention on the concept of identity, a concept that is often times entirely taken for granted. Identity, and the process by which one s identity may be formed, is multi faceted. On occasion, this can be simple. For instance, Vladek is Jewish, and identifies as such, even admittedly conforming to a good deal of the stereotypes, such as miserliness, and is descended from a long line of Jews However, even for someone like Vladek, who never for a moment questions his identity in point of fact, the matter of identity can become complicated; there are times when he has to disguise himself as a gentile Pole to avoid racist persecution and for reasons of survival, making the transformation from mouse to pig in the context of the graphic memoir. During this time of disguise, the transformation is visually rendered by Spiegelman by having Vladek put on a pig mask; Spiegelman, as an artist, takes full advantage of his character s animalization: species are easily identified, and subsequently categorized by the human mind quickly. For others, however, their identities are not so fixed, not so firmly established. The author s wife, Francois, is French, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
