Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the
US steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce
their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a
tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of
the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately
though, that hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even
higher prices to come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for
their well being. With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all
shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it
is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of.
Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of
the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business
owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us,
the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on
our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade
policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for
import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a
result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective
tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the
expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from
foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in
domestic government policies and could

Frattached Ear Lobe Experiments
Introduction/Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to determine the allele frequency of
attached versus detached ear lobes in our society and distinguish if there is a recognizable
difference between the two. This is a trait based on a single gene and is easily studied. Attached
ear lobes connect directly to the side of the head, while detached earlobes hang down below the
point of attachment. One objective is to determine which earlobe is more dominant for our
population.
Hypothesis:
If a large enough population is studied and all detached and attached ear lobes are counted, I
conclude the study will indicate both types of ear lobes will be relatively equal.
Methods:
I chose the Town Center Mall as a place for my study, having considered a mall was a great place
to reach a large segment of the population. There was a diverse population for both age and race
as well as an adequate number of males and females. I randomly determined the ear lobe type of
the first fifty people I came in contact with and noted this as my dependent variable. In order to ...

The dominant allele was the unattached ear lobe with the attached being the recessive allele. The
Hardy Weinberg equation was used to find the frequencies of the dominant and recessive alleles.
After noting and calculating the results of the first fifty people at the mall, I tested a second
experiment, deducing that attached ear lobes seemed to be more prevalent in younger females. My
new hypothesis was females under age thirty had a higher frequency of attached ear lobes, so I
then observed the next fifty females that appeared under the age of thirty and recorded the results.
The Hardy Weinberg formula was again used in the calculations.
Results:

Lord of the Flies by William Golding and the Philosophy of...
Rousseau and Golding are both philosophers and are both known for different similar topics.
Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his
philosophies saying that man is good. Golding is known for his bestselling novel he ever wrote,
Lord of The Flies, also expressing his philosophies saying that man is evil. Rousseau and Golding
have many contrasts that fight against each other s philosophies but was never spoken to each
other because they lived in different time periods. My view on the spirit of a humanwithout order is
that humans are all good even though some don t show it. Jean Jacques Rousseaus philosophies
were published in 1762 to explain the good of man. His philosophies explained reasoning is what
causes societies to corrupt the good of man and humans are just naturally good by themselves.
Also Rousseau s beliefs show that humans are good physically and mentally also believes, modern
man s enslavement to his own needs was responsible for all sorts of societal ills, http:/
/www.sparknotes.com/philosophy/rousseau/th emes.html . All of his philosophies are based of the
ideas of modern philosophies saying that if humans didn t have a governments or societies, what
would their natural characteristics be and saying those characteristics are permanent and would
never change. So Rousseau took this philosophy and added on to it saying humans are good
naturally so the characteristic of being good is permanent and will never

New Jersey Proposed Pilot Program to Extending School Days...
NJ governor Chris Christie is by no means a favorite politician in the eyes of New Jersey
education administrators, and teachers. After many years of budget cuts and restructuring, he is
facing new criticism with his new proposal to increase the school day and year. New Jersey news
papers and radio stations are filled with interviews and chatter on whether NJ students will
benefit from longer days, or if it is just a political maneuver and waste of money we do not have.

This proposal and concern though is not something only New Jersey students and educators are
facing. Across the state education boards are contemplating the same decision and echo many of
the same concerns. The top on everyones list is budget. This is an exuberant cost, that many
states like new Jersey cannot afford. Several of the articles discussed the aspect of cost, from
electricity, to janitorial services, to adding additional meals and meals cost, along with salary
and supplies. Cost are estimated to be $1,200 per student, per year for most school districts
(Sanders, A., 2014). Schools in each district are looking for a six to severn percent financial
increase for for a simple ten minuets of increased time (Anderson, M., 2014 ) There is also
concern regarding how this extended time will effect students and educators. Students could be
subjected to twelve hour days, when considering travel and after school activities (Anderson, M.,
2014). Many parents are concerns their child will not have enough time to play, or spend with their
family because of the demands of the longer hours. Children are already exhausted by current
schedules and many parents and apposing individuals fear burning out students (Anderson, M,.
2014). New Jersey parents are also worried about their children being in over heated classrooms and
missing out on summer fun. (McGlone, P., 2014). Some parents even stating that two moths off for

The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord...
Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the
novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent
Youth Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he
helps build shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast,
and lastly when he tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat
Archetype when he was attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a
savage and got frightened, and when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is
also shown when Ralph squirted water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and
when he asked a question he already knew the answer to.
Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the
Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who
wants me? Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief
then. (Golding 19). This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and
he wanted to take that leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters
and he built the most, We all built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the
last one... (Golding 85). This shows how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of
work and more, for the benefit of others. When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going
against Ralph and challenging his position as leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me?
(Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because he chose to show bravery rather than
coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the beast and Ralph was
reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about the beast and
Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to heroism because
he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. When Jack took Piggy s
specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph said to Jack, ...You ve got to give them
back. (Golding 195).

Beyond Analysis Of The Book Beyond The River Chebar Essay
Beyond the River Chebar
Young Hoon (John) Kim
This book, Beyond the River Chebar, is a collection of articles that talks about the kingship and
eschatology in Ezekiel. Block wants to show the proper interpretation of the book of Ezekiel by
providing different views on the interpretation of certain passages and different theological views.
Moreover, Block provides history and other aspects for the better understanding of the book of
Ezekiel.
Daniel Block starts by introducing Zion theology. Zion theology is the Israelites religious attitude
toward Jerusalem. Scholars recognize some Israelites thoughts regarding to the Zion Theology.
First, since worshipping of Yahweh at the national temple in Jerusalem, the Israelites thought that
the deity s enthronement is a central feature. Second, since the Location of the temple is on the
peak of Zaphon, they assume that Zion is the center of the universe. Last, The election of Zion by
YHWH is closely tied to the election of David. From Zion Yahweh s reign of peace and justice
extends to the entire world.
Additionally, Yahweh s kingship, which is the one of the core aspects of the Zion Theology, has
poor evidences in Ezekiel s ministry. The word malak has been used to refer to Yahweh once (Ezek.
20:33). However, the context does not provide any element that has to do with the enthronement of
Yahweh.
In second chapter, the author deals with the royal ideology in Ezekiel. Block briefly talks about the
history of Israel s monarchy

Information And Communication Technology And Poverty In...
Information and communication technology (ICT) is becoming very popular among people. In the
last decade, the major upswing was seen in using the traditional and the modern information and
communication technology. Several modes of ICTs are computers, radio, television, printer,
mobile phones, internet, laptops etcetera. All these play a crucial role to connect people world
widely. There is currently some debate whether ICTs are the constructive way to reduce
impoverishment in developing countries. Lack of adequate infrastructure for ICTs availability and
high cost of devices are some problems to achieve the goal of less povertyin developing nations.
However, dispersing the light of education and improving health care facilities in progressing
countries clearly shows that ICTs are strongly productive way to decline poverty in developing
countries. Therefore, this essay will argue that providing the work force education and connecting
patients and doctors for better health results will definitely contribute to alleviate poverty in
developing countries.
To a certain point, there are some barriers to ICTs framework policies on poverty reduction
programs in the developing countries. The major one is the infrastructure, which is important to
access the technology. For example, Elijah (2006, p. 14) explained that in Nigeria, lack of
electricity and inadequate technical support are constraints in to access ICT. The author added to
this that 75% of rural Nigeria is still in dark

However, I expect you to briefly comment on the reasonableness of those forecasts (especially
given past performance and efficiency of the company s operations), and possibly provide a
simple analysis of the sensitivity of your EBITDA growth assumptions to the value of OLC. ii.
Depreciation and capital expenditures: OLC assets are primarily intangible, and the proportion
of fixed to total assets is very small (see Exhibit 3). Therefore, for the sake of simplicity, assume
that both capital expenditures and depreciation is zero (note that even the casewriter assumes
zero depreciation, since taxes are paid on EBITDA in Exhibit 8. Therefore, in this case,
EBITDA=EBIT!) iii. Tax rate: 44% (Exhibit 2, Exhibit 8) iv. Assume a five year forecast period
(1998 2002) and the terminal growth of 4%. Note, however, that the market for supplemental
education will likely be very competitive in the long run. v. WACC estimation: use data from
Exhibit 9. Since OLC is a private company, you ll have to use a pure play approach using data

Summary Of Addition By Garrett Hardin
In the excerpt, Life Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor. , the author Garrett Hardin raised
the question whether rich nations should sustain the needs of the more insufficient nations in the
world. He addresses this question by utilizing the idea of a lifeboat. Hardin metaphorically paints
the picture of a boat, which represents the world, the passengers within the boat, which represent
the rich nations, and the swimmers outside of the boat, which represent the poorer nations in need
of financial gain. In Addition, the author exerts that there is only a significant amount of room
available on the boat, limiting the inclusion of the swimming passengers. Furthermore, the ecologist
opens the door to the different scenarios in which questions the moralityof those
aboard.Simultaneously, Hardin delivers the possible outcomes of each solution to strengthen his
stance against assisting the poor. Garrett Hardin, zeroing in on the negative outcomes of allowing
others aboard the lifeboat, effectively supports his claim, through his metaphoric model of the
lifeboat , the plethora of scenarios, and the inclusion of moral theories. In the beginning, Garrett
Hardin adequately illustrates the idea of the Lifeboat Scenario to introduce his logic for not (280).
First, Hardin states that there are 50 people located inside the lifeboat, but he notes that there is
room for only 10 more, generating a total capacity of 60 people allowed onboard. Not to mention,
Hardin says

France and Russia both underwent powerful revolutions. The French Revolution resulted in the
overthrow of the long established Bourbon monarchy. The Russian Revolution resulted in the
overthrow of the Roman Dynasty. Both the French and Russian Revolution were the direct result of
poor economic conditions, government corruption, and unjust treatment of the lower class. The pre
revolutionary events that led up to the French and Russian Revolutions had similar, yet different

Since King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, who were getting the tax money, were
spending it on ridiculous items, like wigs, the lower class were getting more and more upset.
Women started to protest because they could not provide for their family because of the bread

the angry women which caused the king and queen to fled. Later, the Bastille, the place where

The Simpsons Nuclear Family Essay
In The Simpsons cartoon, the ideological construction of the nuclear family was challenged. The
nuclear family concept was debunked and exposed in this cartoon series. To begin, a nuclear
family has a variety of factors and elements which contribute to its unnatural appeal. A nuclear
family is primarily composed of a pair of heterosexual adults and their children. The nuclear family
was familiarized and primarily catered towards the white and middle class individuals. The
ideological construction of a nuclear familyis a homogenized ideology of what human kind and
society should be. The development of the nuclear family ideal was a cultural and political
response to World War II. It was a concept which perpetuated and expressed that any other form
of family was unacceptable, such as, families which were composed of a single parent, or
families with parents of the same sex. This ideal, therefore, created a false understanding of
normality. Due to political power, the nuclear family was an ideal pushed to control what was
occurring in the homes of individuals and a method of displaying the American Dream because
people were unaware of how such an ideal family could be created and maintained. By... Show

Facilities Managers Are The Backbone Of All Establishments
Facilities Managers are the backbone of nearly all establishments. They are the reason the hotel runs
smoothly and efficiently. They aid in profitability, effective staff relation, effective information
management, effective internal communication, and effective facility responsibilities. The most
important area of a hotel that the facilities manager plays a role in is profitability.
Usually when people think of the maintenance department of any operation their first thought is
fixing thinks (Edwards, 2012. p.13). Yes, the maintenance crew does indeed fix things, but their
job is far more important than just that. For example, if there are twenty light fixtures broken in a
ballroom, no events can be hosted in there. This will result in a huge profit loss anywhere from one
hundred dollars to over $30,000. The facilities manager s job is to come in and fix the room as
quickly as possible so they can start turning a profit. As the hotel gets older and older things
become outdated and old. This is where the facilities manager comes in and makes the decision
to either replace the old equipment with brand new equipment, or to simply restore it. They are
responsible for nearly everything from painting the walls, resurfacing the roof... to the gas that
cooks the food and anything in between (Edwards, 2012. P14). If all of the equipment is taken
care of from day one, it will last much longer and save money in the long run. In the end, no hotel

Pros And Cons Of Homosexuals In The Military
Homosexuals serving the Military The military accepting homosexuals into the military and not
being hurting them and keeping things from them then will help the military in the end.
Whenever you re not ordinary, people treat you as such. As humans, we want to know more, but
at the same time what we don t know scares us. When people started to come out as being a part
of the LGBTQ+ community and not feeling ashamed, people started to freak out. Not only did
they freak out they started to fight, kill, and harass. It started to get even worse when people
figured out that people of the LGBTQ+ community were in the Military. Even though there was a
Don t Ask Don t Tell policy as so known as the DADT that was put in place in 1993 by President
Bill Clinton. President Bill Clinton and gay rights activists thought that the policy was a great
idea, but it wasn t. It actually took them awhile to figure out just how bad it really was. The
reason why the Don t Ask Don t Tell policy President Bill Clinton passed in 1933 didn t work is
because of the fact that homosexuals that served in the military were not allowed to talk about
their sexual preference or have any type of sexual activity, and commanding officers were not
allowed to question service members about their sexual preference. (Alford, 2016) A lot of gay
rights activists didn t like the policy because of the fact that the policy was forcing homosexuals in
the military to hide. They couldn t be known as homosexuals . In

The Importance Of Racial Diversity In High Schools
Literature Review
The racial climate at primarily white institutions has been widely publicized, especially as
discussions about political correctness in American society have increased. The University of
Louisville was criticized in 2015, when local news outlets publicized tensions present in the school
s honors dorm and the school s president, James Ramsey, faced backlash for donning a Mexican
garb for Halloween season festivities. The following literature review attempts to set a foundation
for the discussion of whether or not students are prepared to interact with students from racial
backgrounds different from their own, and whether or not students who have experienced
discrimination in college expected to when they chose the University of Louisville. High schools
have recently made news for decades of slow moving, but noticeable resegregation. Some
communities have succeeded in producing lasting integration, but others have been segregated by
race, and often, income as well, leading to decreased educational opportunity and achievement.
More important to this study is the result that this resegregation has had on the makeup of high
schools many schools lack ample opportunity for students to encounter classmates of different
backgrounds. Resegregation has diluted the diversity at high schools and left students unprepared
for the potential increase in diversity they will experience in college (Frankenberg). If minority
students are discriminated against, it s

becoming a more universal language due to the diversity of people in many different countries.
Having a shared language would ensure all American citizens can communicate with one another
and prevent groups from becoming isolated and separated from one another. With the help of two
essays The New Technologies in the World written by Dennis Baron and So Here s What s
Happening to English written by Jack Rosenthal, you ll soon then understand how English is
changing right beneath your feet. English should be the medium of instruction at universities and
everyone should learn English in the United States for the following three reasons:... Show more

If you re going to read about technology, you ll probably have to do it in English. Another reason
why English should be known is by being able to communicate with others. The importance of
English is becoming much more known in result to that it s widely introduced in majority of high
schools and colleges. But on another note such as speaking internationally, it would be very
beneficial to learn english, not only will your opportunities expand, but the knowledge you can gain
from it is unmatched. Baron introduces this topic by saying, When it comes to globalization, the
first language that comes to mind is of English, which gets you thinking, you don t think of any
other language first when it comes to language of the world. To create a world of ethical
responsibility, English language plays a key role. Most works of art and popular culture are more
honestly represented in their origin of language, such as a song, novel, or even a movie. Without
this common language, nothing would be able to function smoothly. Similarly, it is also very
important to maintain peace and harmony among people. If you raise an issue, only through
peaceful talks and conferences, they can be discussed and solved problems. English is best to
make this easier. It makes business run much more smoothly as well. If everyone at a company
speaks English and you have a handful that don t, communication will be much more tough and will
likely put things out of

Lenscrafters Mission Statement
A firm s operation function entails getting activities and things done such as the production of
goods and customer services. After considering services and products demanded by buyers, the
organization s weaknesses and strengths, and the weaknesses and strengths of the competitors,
proficient corporations should formulate their vision and express it in the mission statements.
Lenscrafters has a mission statement that outlines their strengths and future projections. In the
mission statement, the enterprise identifies that it aims to maintain the loyalty of its customers,
design quality eyewear, deliver value to the buyers requirements, and motivate the personnel to
institute the globe s best job environment (Lenscrafters Case Study, 2015). Lenscrafters mission
statement depicts the purpose of its existence and the company s aspirations and values. Each
department in a corporation derives its strategy from the overall business goals. The operations
strategy entails collective actions stimulated, chosen, and mandated by the corporate function. The
operations strategy consolidates different actions and decisions into a consistent and cohesive
response of competitive mechanisms that link the firm s systems, programs, and policies (Slack,
2015). Lenscrafters operations technique is to offer high quality eyewear to its customers. The
corporation is widely known for the provision of eye care services on the premise, performing eye

Software Projects And Risk Exposure Among Student Software...
development. In a company, there are many factors beyond pure coding affecting the whole project
development process. Unstable organization environment, corporate politics with negative effect on
the project, or change in organizational management during the project etc. in a company will all
have impacts on the project. However, for students developers, these issues are not within the
consideration most of the times.
The realization of huge differences on potential risks between students software projects and
industrial software projects drives us to analyze risks among student population more closely and
independently from existing work. To gain more insight into the risk exposure among student
software project developers, especially under the following two different scenarios which are two
common forms of practice for student groups: developing the software project by an individual or
by a small team (3 or 4 people in a team). Studying the relationship between individual/team based
software projects and risk exposure among student groups is quite useful and interesting. As far as
we can see, it is the first time to conduct risk analysis only based on student groups and it is hoped
that we could give student developers more guidance on risk management policies, which
corresponding risks analysis is based on student groups but not professional fields, thus lessening
software project risks and improving projects performance.

The Huston Rockets Back-to-Back Championships Essay
Keep moving the ball around and dump it inside to Hakeem. Rudy Tomjanovich Sounds pretty easy
right. Wrong. While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever
seen, the defense usually didn t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The
offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rocketsback to back championships
relied heavily on Hakeem s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down
wide open looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4 Out, 1 In Motion Offense and it is probably
one of the easiest offenses that a team can use. The concept of the offense is to get the ball and

This takes the defending post player away from the hoop and allows the offense team post
player to go 1 on 1 with the defender from the free throw line area. This opens up the inside
underneath for back cutters and dribble penetration from the wings and corners. The high post
player can also be used as a screener for the perimeter players. This can cause a big time
mismatch when the defense decides to start switching the screens. The post player will have a
smaller player on him that he can easier post up on or one of the perimeter players will have the
post defender on them and should easily take them of the dribble for a bucket. This set can also
be used against teams that like to full front the post player. The post player should move up to
the high post area. If they are still fronted by the defender they should first seal the defender and
then cut to the basket for an over the top lob pass. For a post player that likes to stay down low a
team might like to consider using the 4 Low set. This requires the post player to move from low
block to low block, or from short corner to short corner. It is also used against a defense that has
a big, strong inside post defender or shot blocker that the post player can t beat 1 on 1. This set
opens up the top of the lane for 1 on 1 dribble penetration and cuts. The post player is set up to
post up 1 on 1 with their defender. Taking away the shot blocker from the basket allows smaller,

Operant Conditioning Reinforcement Analysis
Reading Summary: The second half of chapter 3 is about Operant Conditioning and how it works
by using different reinforcement techniques to mold behavior. The chapter covers the different
types of reinforcements such as positive, negative, extrinsic, intrinsic, primary secondary, social,
activity, and material. In operant conditioning a variety of these types of reinforcements can be
used to shape and condition a subject to behave in a specific way. Word Count: 67 Learning Theory:
Behaviorism is constructed upon stimulus response actions and the way in which things learn from
what is around them. It shows how the environment is something that can affect future actions of a

When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and
positive behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember
receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity
passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I
was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game
instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to
lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced
my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed
as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I
received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative
reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would
then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The
consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved
in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as
well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of Operant
Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class
McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. I remember our entire class studying
harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal
and being the highest scoring class all year for spelling tests. My father s positive reinforcement
of our habit to study hard affected my class and for the rest of the year my class had a notably

Modern Day Color And Sound Motion Pictures
The desire for a sense of motion, action, and narrative (cinema s roots) stretch all the way back to
prehistory with cave drawings... In fact, the entire history of human accomplishment in the
visual arts seems to reveal a deep seated desire to represent time, space, and action visually and as
vividly as possible . (Lewis 5) Throughout history, people have exhibited a need to be entertained
and a need for hope or something to look forward to. Without anything to live for, something to
strive for, life can prove to be meaningless. From the production of cave drawings to the creation

The invention of moving pictures began in 1875 in California when Leland Stanford, the
governor of California, got into a disagreement with a rival gambler about whether or not all four
hooves of a horse are ever off the ground at the same time. To get to the bottom of this argument,
Stanford hired Eadweard Muybridge, a British born entrepreneur and renowned photographer to
set up a row of cameras along a racetrack and capture the stages of the horses gallop with timed
exposures. (Lewis 8) This technique, known as the battery of camera technique, brought
photography leaps and bonds closer to cinema. After proving that all four hooves of a horse are
indeed off the ground at the same time, Muybridge took his series photographs on the road where
he not only exhibited his work but also talked about the technology that produced it. It was at one of
these shows that Thomas Edison met with Muybridge and became interested in producing a more
sophisticated simulation of movement on film than Muybridge s series photographs could ever
have produced... He had plans to develop a system that might sync serial images with recorded
sound played back on the Edison phonograph . (Lewis 9). After meeting with Muybridge, Edison
enlisted photographer William Kennedy Laurie Dickson to help him take technology one step
further and create a camera that could take a sequence of pictures with a single load

The Role Of Women In The Femme Fatale
For example, Larry chose Suzanne out of all the women in the bar. As he was seen looking from
woman to woman, but stopped and smiled at Suzanne as soon as he saw her. She is also desired
by the TV guy when he is presenting his speech he is seen stopping and admiring Suzanne, and
later rubbing her leg under the table. She is also the key desire of James, who kills her husband
for her and takes the blame. Given that, Suzanne uses her looks (sexuality) to gain the attention
and control of men seen within the film. She uses sex and love to gain the influence of men, and
get them to do whatever she wants (dirty work). In fact, she gets the attention of James and then
has sex with him in order to win his love and get him to murder Larry. She is able to manipulate
men, and get them to do anything she wants. She recognizes the function that women serve in
narrative and exploits it to disguise her own plotting (Week Ten Recap: The Femme Fatale).
Correspondingly, Suzanne is best understood as a gender critic. She understands that gender
requires us to perform or act dichotomously. Suzanne knows how to be feminine, and acts feminine
when it suits her purposes, often directing her actions at the men around her. Acknowledging them,
she is able to appeal to their interest and grab their attention and pretty much take over their minds.

within her life (Week Ten Recap: The Femme Fatale). For

X rays are used for medical purposes. They are a form of radiation named electromagnetic waves
(EM Radiation). They are used to take pictures of the insides of the human body which come out

The Imagery Of Macbeth By William Shakespeare
The imagery of Macbeth institutes a dark, evil aura that surrounds nearly every aspect of the play.
Images of evil beings, murder, as well as the natural and supernatural help to set this sinister mood
throughout the play. The three witches are a dominant source of evil in Macbeth. They are the first
characters introduced, emphasizing their significance in the play as well as their aura of darkness.
Their first meeting takes place in thunder and lightening, a dark, chaotic, and dangerous
environment, which sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the play . They also use a
multitude of paradoxical and contradictory statements, indicating a sense of deception (1.1.2 10).
They say that the battle, referring to the battle between Scotland, led by Banquo and Macbeth, and
the armies of Ireland and Norway, will be ere the set of sun, (1.1.5). The witches mean that this
battle will be finished by the time the sun has set, leaving any following events to occur in
darkness. In their second meeting, their evil and power is accentuated when they describe their
actions; killing swine and wrecking the ships of sailors (1.3. 2 30). This foreshadow s the dark
consequences of their meeting with Macbeth. Furthermore, the witches act as Macbeth s stimulus
into a descent into evil. The witches take advantage of Macbeth s covert desire for power, and
influence him to fulfill his own prophecy, to quench their own desire for a world of chaos. The
line, All hail Macbeth that shalt be King

His comments towards the females are completely unnecessary. The detailed description of the
girls and their overexposed bodies would make any person, not just a female, uncomfortable.
Sammie could have simply noted how appealing the girls were and acknowledge their choice of
apparel instead of stating, in detail, the way Queenie s bathing suit had slipped a little on her
(Updike 19). Sammie s character is portrayed as lustful. If the girls were not in bathing suits
would the same attention be given? The perception that clothing makes all the difference, not
only in a literary setting but also in daily life, is controversial. A recent movement was sparked
when a police officer voiced a sexist comment that women should avoid dressing like sluts in
order not to be victimized (McAfee 1). The SlutWalk was then created as women all over the
world protested and marched, carrying signs that read my clothes are not my consent. This real
world issue is evident in A P as the mindset of a man when faced with the three women and their
lack of clothing is revealed. Updike noticed and brought attention to the social barrier he saw in his
society, that is still evident today, that needs to be torn

Miniver Cheevy And Richard Cory
A Formalist Criticism: Miniver Cheevy Richard Cory Miniver Cheevy and Richard Cory are both
the works of Edwin Arlington Robinson with a similar format yet tell a much different tale. In
both these stories the tale of an unhappy man is told. Both stories paint a vivid picture of the lives
each individual walked, and how they were viewed from an outside perspective. Edwin Arlington
Robinsonillustrates sadness within his characters appearing fairly opposite on the outside, however,
depression that is similarly deep within. Robinson expressed two polar opposite characters from an

The way society viewed his perfect life was based upon look charisma, as well as, materialistic

Guidelines And Standards For Making Accessible And Usable...
4.1 Guidelines and Standards for Making Accessible and Usable websites
There are different kinds of standards and guidelines available to assist web designers to
develop their web to be accessible and usable for all users including blind user. Most Guidelines
and standards are vital from a practical standpoint. However, it is also important to be aware of
that the guidelines and standards cannot accommodate all users all of the time. The areas where
the guidelines or standards are not practical or vital, it needs to be clearly identified and alternate
methods need to be known in order to achieve accessibility and usability. From the time when the
introduction of the WCAG 2.0 in 2008, there are a selection of success criteria and methods
suggested that could be used to achieve usability and accessibility (Zeldman Marcotte 2010).
The guidelines and standards by which most accessibility and usability practitioners develop and

by The World Wide WebConsortium (W3C) (Caldwell et al. 2010). According to the web
guidelines and standards, all websites are legally obliged to ensure that they are accessible and

Explain The Roles And Differences Between Consumer And...
1.Differentiate between mechanized, semi automated, automated, and information directed
handling systems. The mechanized type handling system, is a combination through labor and
equipment handling that utilizes the help from facilities processing, receiving, and shipping.
Although a high percentage of overall cost is associated with this type of labor system. Also, with
having to use a high amount of human labor workers, there is more use of forklifts and carousels.
Where when using an automated system, there would be a cut in labor costs due to the use of
automated equipment that can accomplish the job that man power is being used to accomplish. A
lot of these costs can be pretty expensive up front, but in the long run they end up paying
themselves off. When a mix of both are used though, it s called semi automated. Which can in turn
help increase efficiency. But at the same time, using completely automated systems can help reduce
in any forms of error in sorting processes. Within semi automated systems, there is the final form of
information directed handling. This system uses information technology to help direct mechanized
or any automated equipment. 2.Explain the roles and differences between consumer and industrial
focused packaging. The roles and differences between consumer and industrial focused packaging
are pretty up to point. The consumer packaging is primarily focused on product and marketing

Essay on Affirmative Action is Reverse Discrimination
Affirmative Action is Reverse Discrimination
When the Civil Rights Bill was being debated on the floor of the Senate, Barry Goldwater
predicted that this particular bill might be abused. Herbert Humphrey, however, stated that he
would eat every page of the bill if ever it were used to justify discrimination against anybody on
account of race or sex. The bill eventually passed and became the Civil Rights Act. From college
admissions to government contracts, the Civil Rights Act has been grossly abused by giving race
and gender primary consideration in admissions and hiring, resulting in blatant reverse

One can only imagine the public outrage had this been a black girl that was told she was

Critically Discuss Augustine s Distinction Between Just...
Augustine is highly acclaimed as the originator of the Just War theory. He founded a concept that
would be built upon for many years to come. Augustine argued that war was sometimes sadly an
unfortunate necessity to preserve order in society. He believed that wars should only be undertaken
if they satisfy a certain criteria for a just war. McCellend notes how В‘the original condition of man
s soul was innocence but since the Fall the soul has been tainted and is thus incapable of achieving
goodness. While Augustine was fundamentally against war as he believed it was sinful, he
recognised that sometimes there were just wars that could be fought under Gods jurisdiction to

Augustine did not accept that justice could be obtained through killing in self defence. One should
only be permitted to kill only under the instruction of God or a legitimate authority ordained by
God. He believed that self defence should never be a valid justification for causing harm to another
man. However, in the Bible one of the ten commandants is that В‘thou shallt not kill . In arguing
that killing is sometimes an unavoidable evil Augustine contradicts traditional Christian doctrine
and goes against the teachings of Jesus. According to Augustine Christians have a moral duty to
contribute to the state. Their duties involve participating in the public office and fighting in a just
war if it is deemed necessary by their ruler Augustine asserted that once a war has been declared
the soldier must obey his leader regardless of whether he is waging a just or unjust war. The soldier
is therefore not guilty if the war he engages in is unjust but instead it is the sole fault of the ruler.
Augustine argued that В‘the soldier is innocent, because his position makes obedience a duty . To
punish a soldier for participating in an unjust war would encourage dissertation and anarchy

The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks Essay
In a world in which abortion is considered either a woman s right or a sin against God, the poem
The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks gives a voice to a mother lamenting her aborted children
through three stanzas in which a warning is given to mothers, an admission of guilt is made, and
an apology to the dead is given. The poet speaker, the mother, as part of her memory addresses the
children that she got that [she] did not get (2). The shift in voice from stanzato stanza allows Brooks
to capture the grief associated with an abortionby not condemning her actions, nor excusing them;
she merely grieves for what might have been. The narrator s longing and regret over the children
she will never have is highlighted by the change in tone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is possible that the narrator is trying to reassure herself in this passage by claiming that the child
was never made, but then why write the poem to her unborn children?
Directly addressing the aborted children, the mother is able to relate her experience to other
women who may be contemplating abortion; perhaps the narrator is trying to warn other mothers
with tone and diction: You will remember the children you got that you did not get, The damp
small pulps with a little or with no hair, The singers and workers that never handled the air. You
will never neglect or beat Them, or silence or buy with a sweet. You will never wind up the
sucking thumb Or scuttle off ghosts that come. You will never leave them, controlling your
luscious sigh, Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother eye. (2 10)
The word remember in line two may be considered a play on words; re member, or
dismemberment as in the case of an abortion. Damp small pulps in line three sounds animalistic, as
if Brooks is saying pups instead of pulps. If the word pulp was in fact intended, it is then part of the
poem s imagery, indicating something that is crushed,

The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis
When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you needed like clothes
and food and there were the things that you maybe want but don t really need. Advertisements
do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat
food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we
want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain
shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from
our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are
taught and conditioned to want one. The Frontline documentary, The Persuaders , delves into the
world of advertisement in order to explore different aspects of the industry that drives our desire....

After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and consumers is
similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because advertisement is
inherently a form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the audience, it propagates a
propaganda for a specific item. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and
apply it to advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the
hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This
theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the
media content would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would
automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just information that
stated that something was better than another product in the hope that, like an injection, the
information would cause the audience to go out and buy their

Radical Republican Dbq
Radical Republicans, who identified as the anti slavery and pro reconstruction wing of the
Republican party, were another key group driving transformations in the country during this time.
They had a bold agenda: to punish the south for the Civil War, ensure the complete elevation of
former slaves to the current standards of American society, and to prevent the Democrats from ever
gaining another foothold in the south. To do this, they set out to pass the Thirteenth, Fourteenth,
and Fifteenth Amendments. The amendments forbade slavery in the United States, guaranteed equal
protection under the law and citizenship to anyone born in the United States, and ensured the right
to vote for all men over the age of 21, respectively. They also supported the Freedman s Bureau,...

Despite losing the war, they wanted to maintain their political and economic power as in the
years leading up to the Civil Rights Act. They had no regard for the lives of blacks and only saw
them as a means to an end rather than human beings. To white supremacists, differing races could
only exist in a system of hierarchy where they found themselves on to. After the war, they faced
economic ruin from the collapse of the plantation system, loss of livestock, and well as a federal
militant presence, they saw as a negative occupation. Some moved abroad where slavery
remained legal to continue their old lives, while others attempted to maintain control of their
confiscated lands through the practice of sharecropping. This system of labor contracts, where
blacks would still work the land, would have to contribute a portion of their harvest as a form of
tax. The regulations around such contracts were a legal form of slavery, binding workers to the
land, and setting unrealistic limits on a people who were said to be free. They also sought to
advance a system of laws which restricted the status of blacks, i.e. the Black

Armed Resistance
Armed resistance is apt to be a tragic last resort in the life of the disinherited. Armed resistance
has an appeal because it provides a form of expression, of activity, that releases tension and frees
the oppressed from a disintegrating sense of complete impotency and helplessness. Why can t we
do something? Something must be done! is the recurring cry. By something is meant action,
direct action, as over against words, subtleties, threats, and innuendoes. It is better to die fighting
for freedom than to rot away in one s chains, the argument runs. (Before I d be a slave I d be
buried in my grave, and go home to my God and be free!) My mind goes back to the four lepers
men sitting and debating amongst themselves whether to go into the

Adam Smith Economics
Adam Smith thought that Political Economy considered as a branch of a statesman or legislator
which propose two distinct objects which proposes to enrich both people and the sovereign. First,
to provide a plentiful revenue or subsistence for the people or more properly to enable them to
provide such a revenue or subsistence for themselves. Second, to supply the state or commonwealth
with a revenue sufficient for the public services.
In the chapter I of this book, Smith criticizing the economy theory and policy come first before his
thought about progression about public well being wealth. First, Smith critizes about form of
wealth in money (gold and silver). Wealth and money in common language are considered
synonymous. Adam Smith critizes based on the fact that money is used as an instrument of trade or
exchange in a state or between states. Also, it is used to command labor such as to maintain fleets
and armies in distant countries which are the true measures of wealth. Therefore, this lead the
government to prohibit the exportation of gold and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefits are two folds: first, this trade carriers out the surplus part of the produce of a
particular country for which there is no demand at home, and brings back something else for
which there is a demand. Second, it gives value to the surplus produce, which because of a lack
of demand, would otherwise have no value. Foreign trade itself broaden the home market, and by
introducing new goods allows the division of labor be carried out to the highest perfection. Adam
Smith provides the example of the American colonies. He argues that it is not the discovery of
gold and silver in those lands which has enriched Europe, but the provision of a new and ample
market with which to trade. This broad market, in turn, helped encourage the division of

Descriptive Essay On The Fire
Footsteps
Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in
scorching hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed
by the fire. Louis tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the
swinging bridge. The sleeve of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest
of his body within seconds. He frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts
failed. He decided to jump into a rocky, fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis
James Tacha s body was never found. Some say his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to
make others disappear into the river to symbolize how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few
survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the town to remember the event that took place on
that cool summer night.
Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all
girls summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement
as she places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the
camp, she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change
colors, just barely covering a sign that reads, Camp Rio. All around her, counselors and campers
radiate with joy. No one seems to be vexed that sky is dim from clouds hovering over the earth.

Creon Tragic Hero In The Play Antigone
In the play Antigone, there were many tragic heroes. In my opinion Creon was one of those.
Creon was a tragic hero that was trying to be noble, but losing his entire family was extreme; he
was set to fail from the start. In the play Creon decreed Polyneices was not to be buried. He did
this as he believed that Polyneices was a traitor to Thebes. In his eyes this was a noble deed to do
for his city that Polyneices had betrayed. If anyone undermined him and buried Polyneices then he
saw them as un noble and must be dealt with at once. His downfall came as a result from him
trying to be noble. Upholding traitors like Antigonedid is not noble. Creons entire family by the end
of the play, with the exception Ismene, killed themselves. No matter

The Oppression of Women
The Oppression of Women Imperialism is used to gain authority and control over one state or
people in the form of an empire, based on practices of dominance and the idea of superiority. The
term can be found in the history of Japan, the Chinese Empire, Greece, ancient Egypt and the
British Empire. From 1934 to 1945, Hitler ran Germany by promoting anti Semitism, Pan
Germanism, and anti communism to gain the support of the German people. In this time he was
the leader of a mass genocide which killed approximately six million Jews during World War II.
During the 19th and 20th century, slavery was prominent in the United States where black
women and men were powered by their masters. Stolen from their original homes, they were
forced to work for little or no pay. In Islam, women are sold into arranged marriages at a very
young age. They lose their property to the men they are married to and are controlled by their
husbands. In any civilization, it is easy to see how imperialism has affected many different religious
groups, people of different ethnicities, and genders. Women have been targeted and discriminated
throughout our world s history. Many women have fought and gone against their society s rules to
prove that justice should be given to them. Women have been discriminated by their sex, jobs,
pregnancy, race, and religion. In pre agricultural societies, women held equal positions as men.
After adapting to sedentary cultures, men began to believe the concept that women

Catholic Faith Essay Sample
The catholic faith encourages us to help out and give our time to our community. The catholic
faith also encourages us to follow God s mission. I gave my time at the Women s Health Clinic
in Hartford. I spent all five hours working on a pamphlet that they will put in the waiting room.
Once I made it the next thing I did was make copies. I was happy to help out at the clinic because
it gave me an opportunity to learn. Also the doctors do not need to waste their time making a
pamphlet. They have many other important tasks to focus on. I took away much more than I had
expected. One thing I took away was doctors have more jobs than just taking care of patients. The
doctors have to create pamphlets, but I stepped up to the job. I had lots of fun creating this
pamphlet and would love to make another one in the future. The beatitude that I modeled through
my service was Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. You can show mercy in
many different ways, not just by forgiving. The way I showed mercy to others was by teaching
women. I have shown compassion to others by helping mothers. The pamphlet teaches the mothers

I also felt in that moment that God appreciated what I did and was happy I followed in his
footsteps. I also felt worthy of God s love. I realized that I have shown compassion to others
because I did teach them how they can help their baby. Helping out makes many people feel good
about himself, but make sure you put the hours in. When you put hours into your life you will
most likely take something out of your community service. I have followed God s mission by
creating a pamphlet that teaches mothers. That is how I followed in God s footsteps for the past

In the past and even in some parts of the world today, having a full time maid is considered a

Redesign Bath Magic Inc.
Typography For my typography project, I chose to redesign Bath Magic Inc. s webpage. I found
this poorly designed webpage by simply searching the Internet for ugly websites . It was at the
top of a list of Top 10 Worst Websites You ll Wish You Hadn t Seen . I figured that I couldn t
make it look any worse. What I first noticed about this unfortunate website is the overload of
information that overwhelms the page, as well as its viewers. The information the site is
attempting to convey is also repeated numerous times. There is so much going on and being
offered, that I, the viewer, am not sure what Bath Magic Inc. is. Do they fix bathrooms, sell
certain products, or all the above? The website s information is not organized in a way that s
usable and logical to the everyday site visitor. In order to clearly convey what services their
company has to offer, I sought to establish good visual hierarchy in my redesign with the size,
alignment, contrast, and density. In design, size is one important way to draw the audience s
attention. The bigger the object or font, the more attention it demands. In order to highlight the
most important and influential parts of the website, one should make them bigger so the viewers
will immediately be drawn to it. In Bath Magic Inc. s original website design, the largest elements
are their slogan and some very unattractive images. The slogan, in big white letters, takes away the
importance of the company s brand. Bath Magic Inc. s

The sport cars that are used in the sport are not affordable by normal people and since they are
custom made to the requirements of the Grand Prix Circuits they cannot be rushed on the roads in
the same manner. The impractical designs are sport oriented and after the race the cars have to be
stored or their parts are utilized in other ways which leads to wastage of some sorts which cannot
be recuperated (Henry, 2000). Hence the sport cannot qualify to the standards of being called
economic and financially healthy. The economic issues are followed by social issues. The sport
is a high energy sport in which a lot of unethical aspects get involved despite of all the attempts to
keep it sane and safe. Initially the sport was held on public roads that led to severe accidents.
Due to the uncontrollably high speeding of the cars the accidents were unavoidable and this
resulted in dire disasters. These sports were held for public between the public but the cost that
was being paid was a lot higher than the pleasure they were given which made it quite risky.
After much thinking the sport was modified for safety and the circuits were designed to suit the
requirements of the race and the cars could speed easily on these. Since the roads were now clear
of passengers the speed limits of the cars raised even more. This resulted in more aggression being
developed in the players and the viewers as well. The investment that was being put in making these
circuits needed more money

  • 2. Steel and Tariffs Essay Steel and Tariffs We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the US steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately though, that hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even higher prices to come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for their well being. With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic government policies and could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Frattached Ear Lobe Experiments Introduction/Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to determine the allele frequency of attached versus detached ear lobes in our society and distinguish if there is a recognizable difference between the two. This is a trait based on a single gene and is easily studied. Attached ear lobes connect directly to the side of the head, while detached earlobes hang down below the point of attachment. One objective is to determine which earlobe is more dominant for our population. Hypothesis: If a large enough population is studied and all detached and attached ear lobes are counted, I conclude the study will indicate both types of ear lobes will be relatively equal. Methods: I chose the Town Center Mall as a place for my study, having considered a mall was a great place to reach a large segment of the population. There was a diverse population for both age and race as well as an adequate number of males and females. I randomly determined the ear lobe type of the first fifty people I came in contact with and noted this as my dependent variable. In order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dominant allele was the unattached ear lobe with the attached being the recessive allele. The Hardy Weinberg equation was used to find the frequencies of the dominant and recessive alleles. After noting and calculating the results of the first fifty people at the mall, I tested a second experiment, deducing that attached ear lobes seemed to be more prevalent in younger females. My new hypothesis was females under age thirty had a higher frequency of attached ear lobes, so I then observed the next fifty females that appeared under the age of thirty and recorded the results. The Hardy Weinberg formula was again used in the calculations. Results: Several studies haveNumber of DetachedNumber of Attached ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his philosophies saying that man is good. Golding is known for his bestselling novel he ever wrote, Lord of The Flies, also expressing his philosophies saying that man is evil. Rousseau and Golding have many contrasts that fight against each other s philosophies but was never spoken to each other because they lived in different time periods. My view on the spirit of a humanwithout order is that humans are all good even though some don t show it. Jean Jacques Rousseaus philosophies were published in 1762 to explain the good of man. His philosophies explained reasoning is what causes societies to corrupt the good of man and humans are just naturally good by themselves. Also Rousseau s beliefs show that humans are good physically and mentally also believes, modern man s enslavement to his own needs was responsible for all sorts of societal ills, http:/ /www.sparknotes.com/philosophy/rousseau/th emes.html . All of his philosophies are based of the ideas of modern philosophies saying that if humans didn t have a governments or societies, what would their natural characteristics be and saying those characteristics are permanent and would never change. • 9. The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord... Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype when he was attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a savage and got frightened, and when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already knew the answer to. Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who wants me? Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19). This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he built the most, We all built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others. When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the beast and Ralph was reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about the beast and Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to heroism because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. When Jack took Piggy s specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph said to Jack, ...You ve got to give them back. (Golding 195). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Beyond Analysis Of The Book Beyond The River Chebar Essay Beyond the River Chebar Young Hoon (John) Kim This book, Beyond the River Chebar, is a collection of articles that talks about the kingship and eschatology in Ezekiel. Block wants to show the proper interpretation of the book of Ezekiel by providing different views on the interpretation of certain passages and different theological views. Moreover, Block provides history and other aspects for the better understanding of the book of Ezekiel. Daniel Block starts by introducing Zion theology. Zion theology is the Israelites religious attitude toward Jerusalem. Scholars recognize some Israelites thoughts regarding to the Zion Theology. First, since worshipping of Yahweh at the national temple in Jerusalem, the Israelites thought that the deity s enthronement is a central feature. Second, since the Location of the temple is on the peak of Zaphon, they assume that Zion is the center of the universe. Last, The election of Zion by YHWH is closely tied to the election of David. From Zion Yahweh s reign of peace and justice extends to the entire world. Additionally, Yahweh s kingship, which is the one of the core aspects of the Zion Theology, has poor evidences in Ezekiel s ministry. The word malak has been used to refer to Yahweh once (Ezek. 20:33). However, the context does not provide any element that has to do with the enthronement of Yahweh. In second chapter, the author deals with the royal ideology in Ezekiel. Block briefly talks about the history of Israel s monarchy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Information And Communication Technology And Poverty In... Information and communication technology (ICT) is becoming very popular among people. In the last decade, the major upswing was seen in using the traditional and the modern information and communication technology. Several modes of ICTs are computers, radio, television, printer, mobile phones, internet, laptops etcetera. All these play a crucial role to connect people world widely. There is currently some debate whether ICTs are the constructive way to reduce impoverishment in developing countries. Lack of adequate infrastructure for ICTs availability and high cost of devices are some problems to achieve the goal of less povertyin developing nations. However, dispersing the light of education and improving health care facilities in progressing countries clearly shows that ICTs are strongly productive way to decline poverty in developing countries. Therefore, this essay will argue that providing the work force education and connecting patients and doctors for better health results will definitely contribute to alleviate poverty in developing countries. To a certain point, there are some barriers to ICTs framework policies on poverty reduction programs in the developing countries. The major one is the infrastructure, which is important to access the technology. For example, Elijah (2006, p. 14) explained that in Nigeria, lack of electricity and inadequate technical support are constraints in to access ICT. Depreciation and capital expenditures: OLC assets are primarily intangible, and the proportion of fixed to total assets is very small (see Exhibit 3). • 13. Summary Of Addition By Garrett Hardin In the excerpt, Life Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor. , the author Garrett Hardin raised the question whether rich nations should sustain the needs of the more insufficient nations in the world. He addresses this question by utilizing the idea of a lifeboat. Hardin metaphorically paints the picture of a boat, which represents the world, the passengers within the boat, which represent the rich nations, and the swimmers outside of the boat, which represent the poorer nations in need of financial gain. In Addition, the author exerts that there is only a significant amount of room available on the boat, limiting the inclusion of the swimming passengers. Furthermore, the ecologist opens the door to the different scenarios in which questions the moralityof those aboard.Simultaneously, Hardin delivers the possible outcomes of each solution to strengthen his stance against assisting the poor. Garrett Hardin, zeroing in on the negative outcomes of allowing others aboard the lifeboat, effectively supports his claim, through his metaphoric model of the lifeboat , the plethora of scenarios, and the inclusion of moral theories. In the beginning, Garrett Hardin adequately illustrates the idea of the Lifeboat Scenario to introduce his logic for not (280). First, Hardin states that there are 50 people located inside the lifeboat, but he notes that there is room for only 10 more, generating a total capacity of 60 people allowed onboard. • 16. The Simpsons Nuclear Family Essay In The Simpsons cartoon, the ideological construction of the nuclear family was challenged. The nuclear family concept was debunked and exposed in this cartoon series. To begin, a nuclear family has a variety of factors and elements which contribute to its unnatural appeal. A nuclear family is primarily composed of a pair of heterosexual adults and their children. The nuclear family was familiarized and primarily catered towards the white and middle class individuals. The ideological construction of a nuclear familyis a homogenized ideology of what human kind and society should be. The development of the nuclear family ideal was a cultural and political response to World War II. It was a concept which perpetuated and expressed that any other form of family was unacceptable, such as, families which were composed of a single parent, or families with parents of the same sex. This ideal, therefore, created a false understanding of normality. Due to political power, the nuclear family was an ideal pushed to control what was occurring in the homes of individuals and a method of displaying the American Dream because people were unaware of how such an ideal family could be created and maintained. They aid in profitability, effective staff relation, effective information management, effective internal communication, and effective facility responsibilities. The most important area of a hotel that the facilities manager plays a role in is profitability. Usually when people think of the maintenance department of any operation their first thought is fixing thinks (Edwards, 2012. p.13). Yes, the maintenance crew does indeed fix things, but their job is far more important than just that. For example, if there are twenty light fixtures broken in a ballroom, no events can be hosted in there. This will result in a huge profit loss anywhere from one hundred dollars to over $30,000. The facilities manager s job is to come in and fix the room as quickly as possible so they can start turning a profit. As the hotel gets older and older things become outdated and old. This is where the facilities manager comes in and makes the decision to either replace the old equipment with brand new equipment, or to simply restore it. They are responsible for nearly everything from painting the walls, resurfacing the roof... to the gas that cooks the food and anything in between (Edwards, 2012. P14). If all of the equipment is taken care of from day one, it will last much longer and save money in the long run. In the end, no hotel would be able to operate or make a ... When people started to come out as being a part of the LGBTQ+ community and not feeling ashamed, people started to freak out. Not only did they freak out they started to fight, kill, and harass. It started to get even worse when people figured out that people of the LGBTQ+ community were in the Military. President Bill Clinton and gay rights activists thought that the policy was a great idea, but it wasn t. It actually took them awhile to figure out just how bad it really was. The reason why the Don t Ask Don t Tell policy President Bill Clinton passed in 1933 didn t work is because of the fact that homosexuals that served in the military were not allowed to talk about their sexual preference or have any type of sexual activity, and commanding officers were not allowed to question service members about their sexual preference. • 21. The Importance Of Racial Diversity In High Schools Literature Review The racial climate at primarily white institutions has been widely publicized, especially as discussions about political correctness in American society have increased. The University of Louisville was criticized in 2015, when local news outlets publicized tensions present in the school s honors dorm and the school s president, James Ramsey, faced backlash for donning a Mexican garb for Halloween season festivities. The following literature review attempts to set a foundation for the discussion of whether or not students are prepared to interact with students from racial backgrounds different from their own, and whether or not students who have experienced discrimination in college expected to when they chose the University of Louisville. High schools have recently made news for decades of slow moving, but noticeable resegregation. Some communities have succeeded in producing lasting integration, but others have been segregated by race, and often, income as well, leading to decreased educational opportunity and achievement. More important to this study is the result that this resegregation has had on the makeup of high schools many schools lack ample opportunity for students to encounter classmates of different backgrounds. Resegregation has diluted the diversity at high schools and left students unprepared for the potential increase in diversity they will experience in college (Frankenberg). Unstable organization environment, corporate politics with negative effect on the project, or change in organizational management during the project etc. in a company will all have impacts on the project. However, for students developers, these issues are not within the consideration most of the times. The realization of huge differences on potential risks between students software projects and industrial software projects drives us to analyze risks among student population more closely and independently from existing work. To gain more insight into the risk exposure among student software project developers, especially under the following two different scenarios which are two common forms of practice for student groups: developing the software project by an individual or by a small team (3 or 4 people in a team). Studying the relationship between individual/team based software projects and risk exposure among student groups is quite useful and interesting. As far as we can see, it is the first time to conduct risk analysis only based on student groups and it is hoped that we could give student developers more guidance on risk management policies, which corresponding risks analysis is based on student groups but not professional fields, thus lessening software project risks and improving projects performance. While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever seen, the defense usually didn t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rocketsback to back championships relied heavily on Hakeem s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down wide open looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4 Out, 1 In Motion Offense and it is probably one of the easiest offenses that a team can use. This takes the defending post player away from the hoop and allows the offense team post player to go 1 on 1 with the defender from the free throw line area. This opens up the inside underneath for back cutters and dribble penetration from the wings and corners. The high post player can also be used as a screener for the perimeter players. This can cause a big time mismatch when the defense decides to start switching the screens. The post player will have a smaller player on him that he can easier post up on or one of the perimeter players will have the post defender on them and should easily take them of the dribble for a bucket. This set can also be used against teams that like to full front the post player. The post player should move up to the high post area. When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. Images of evil beings, murder, as well as the natural and supernatural help to set this sinister mood throughout the play. The three witches are a dominant source of evil in Macbeth. They are the first characters introduced, emphasizing their significance in the play as well as their aura of darkness. Their first meeting takes place in thunder and lightening, a dark, chaotic, and dangerous environment, which sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the play . They also use a multitude of paradoxical and contradictory statements, indicating a sense of deception (1.1.2 10). They say that the battle, referring to the battle between Scotland, led by Banquo and Macbeth, and the armies of Ireland and Norway, will be ere the set of sun, (1.1.5). The witches mean that this battle will be finished by the time the sun has set, leaving any following events to occur in darkness. In their second meeting, their evil and power is accentuated when they describe their actions; killing swine and wrecking the ships of sailors (1.3. 2 30). This foreshadow s the dark consequences of their meeting with Macbeth. Furthermore, the witches act as Macbeth s stimulus into a descent into evil. In both these stories the tale of an unhappy man is told. Both stories paint a vivid picture of the lives each individual walked, and how they were viewed from an outside perspective. Edwin Arlington Robinsonillustrates sadness within his characters appearing fairly opposite on the outside, however, depression that is similarly deep within. Robinson expressed two polar opposite characters from an outside perspective, Richard Corybeing what society viewed as a perfect man with the ideal life. The way society viewed his perfect life was based upon look charisma, as well as, materialistic things And he was rich yes, richer than a king (Robinson 85). The life of Richard Cory is one that so many desired, which is ironic because it was far from desirable for the character. The mechanized type handling system, is a combination through labor and equipment handling that utilizes the help from facilities processing, receiving, and shipping. Although a high percentage of overall cost is associated with this type of labor system. Also, with having to use a high amount of human labor workers, there is more use of forklifts and carousels. Where when using an automated system, there would be a cut in labor costs due to the use of automated equipment that can accomplish the job that man power is being used to accomplish. A lot of these costs can be pretty expensive up front, but in the long run they end up paying themselves off. When a mix of both are used though, it s called semi automated. Which can in turn help increase efficiency. But at the same time, using completely automated systems can help reduce in any forms of error in sorting processes. Within semi automated systems, there is the final form of information directed handling. This system uses information technology to help direct mechanized or any automated equipment. 2.Explain the roles and differences between consumer and industrial focused packaging. In arguing that killing is sometimes an unavoidable evil Augustine contradicts traditional Christian doctrine and goes against the teachings of Jesus. The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks Essay In a world in which abortion is considered either a woman s right or a sin against God, the poem The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks gives a voice to a mother lamenting her aborted children through three stanzas in which a warning is given to mothers, an admission of guilt is made, and an apology to the dead is given. The poet speaker, the mother, as part of her memory addresses the children that she got that [she] did not get (2). The shift in voice from stanzato stanza allows Brooks to capture the grief associated with an abortionby not condemning her actions, nor excusing them; she merely grieves for what might have been. The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you needed like clothes and food and there were the things that you maybe want but don t really need. Advertisements do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are taught and conditioned to want one. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content would be directly injected into the audience.
