Band Of Brothers Analysis
Band of Brothers
Band of Brothers, a 2001 mini series of the non fictional historical account of the US Army s famous
101st Airborne Division, was set during World War II. This show details the combined experiences of
Major Richard Dick Winters and the men of Easy Company 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment 101st
Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The series has a war genre mostly, however there
is drama and bits of comedy. These men who fought was known as the good war were hardened men,
who sacrificed so much, for sometimes too little.
The series also gets the original surviving members into talking about the war and showing their
emotions as they come out especially at certain parts that are too hard for them to tell. The ... Show

You see that in a lot of war movies, selfless acts of courage, acts that encourage people today to never
be afraid to lay ones life for their friend. Major Winters quoted a line from William Shakespeare St.

WEEK 2: In this chapter, the authors go into great detail outlining the nature of ancient Mayan
numerical and calendrical systems and their concept of astronomy. Given that the text is found in The
Ancient Maya, and written by established Mayan scholars such as Morely, Brainerd and Sharer, I have
few doubts on the validity and trustworthiness of this reading. The text is well researched and the
authors go into meticulous detail outlining the various systems and make references to many
archaeological sources such as ancient stelae and colonial accounts by Diego de Landa. While there is
no denying that this is an interesting and informative read, it is unclear to me how this reading can be
connected to the study of colonial history apart from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This classification is important to make, as despite the fact that Cortés was present and an active
participant in the encounter, this does not guarantee an honest account of the events. It is important to
keep in mind, that in writing the letters, Cortés had a personal and political agenda and sought to
justify and legitimise his actions. In reading the two texts, there are inconsistencies in the manner that
Cortés and Moctezuma met and greeted one another and in the nature of the conversations that took
place between them. The most notable being the absence of Malintzin or Doña Marina from Cortes
account. The absence of Doña Marina from Cortés accounts are particularly interesting to me given
her occupation as Cortés mediator and translator throughout the conquest. However, given the fact that
Cortés way trying to undermine his rival Diego Velazquez, it is probable that he wanted to portray
himself in the best light, and claim sole responsibility for his success. While Cortés fails to mention
Marina, she is referenced several times in Sahagún s codex. In the illustrations done by native artists,
she is depicted several times. In one of the images, she is standing between Cortés and Moctezuma,
elaborately dressed and clearly a central figure of communication and negotiation between the two
parties. It is interesting that given the little references made to her in the written texts, her appearance
in the illustrations clearly indicate that the Nahuas recognised her role and importance to the

Mental Health Service Delivery Models
Mental health illness is related to a group of illness, anxiety and stress are the most common health
problems. Mental illness affects how a person feels, thinks, behaves, and interacts with other people
(Department of Health, 2007). Mental health service delivery models in Australia has significantly
changed from institutional care to the community care setting (Frost et al., 2017). This easy will

Differences Between Ordinary And Dynamic Capabilities
3.1.3 Firm Capabilities
A firm possesses two different kinds of capabilities, the so called ordinary capabilities and the
dynamic capabilities. They are quite distinct in theory and in practice:
The ordinary capabilities of a firm refer to its ability to use and coordinate tangible and intangible
resources with the aim to reach a desired goal (Teece, 2014).
The dynamic capabilities of a firm refer to its ability to build upon existing capabilities and at the
same time to develop new capabilities (Teece, 2014).
The basic distinctions are outlined in Table 3 below from a practical point of view: Ordinary
Capabilities Dynamic Capabilities
Purpose Technical efficiency Congruence with opportunities
Mode of attainability Buy or build Build
Tripartite schema Operate, administrate, govern Sense, seize, transform
Key routines Best practices Signature processes
Managerial emphasis Cost control Entrepreneurial leadership
Priority Doing things right Doing the right things
Imitability Relatively imitable Inimitable

Sustained competitive success requires continuous sensing, seizing, and transforming in order to
overcome the challenges that changing customers, competitors and technologies brings (Teece, 2014).
Such changes in the environment of the company usually occur over time. This means that while
making the transition companies in such industries have to maintain certain former core competencies
while building up new ones. The core competencies are defined as a combination of tangible and
intangible resources and skill which distinguishes the company from other market players. The

when you re in a gangs your causing violence by killing innocent people for money and creating

when young people listen to the lyrics from their favorite rapper they might think it well be cool if
they do the same thing or maybe how it would feel to being a gang earning money by themselves,

the planet to donate at least half of their earnings to philanthropic causes. At only 30 years of age to
have the moderation, maturity and especially the generosity to join the pledge is something I truthfully
admire. Improving time and work management has been a goal I have set for myself the last couple of
years. How Mark Zuckerberg managed his time and the work that Harvard and the creation of billion
dollar idea takes is something I would like to experience how. College in its self is hard enough, and
going to Harvard is demanding, but materializing a multibillion dollar idea while at Harvard is just
way beyond insane. How he made Facebook successful under the circumstances he was already

interact socially; however before the Facebook era Steve Jobs completely innovated technology and

The Derivatives Of Cellulose
Cellulose is a well known carbohydrate that is currently being impressively utilized within the food
industry. Derivatives of cellulose, can be used to improve texture, to act as edible microcomposite
films, and to provide antibacterial packaging. Some cellulose derivatives are carboxymethyl cellulose,
microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, and microfibrillated cellulose (Belitz et
al. 2009).
Cellulose is a polysaccharide derived from plant cell walls that is digestible by the enzyme cellulase
(Belitz et al. 2009). Humans can not digest cellulose because cellulase is not present in the digestive
tract, however this indigestible carbohydrate is a major component of dietary fiber and improves
digestion (Belitz et al. 2009). On the other hand, herbivores have rumen microflora that can hydrolyze
cellulose (Belitz et al. 2009).
Cellulose consists of a flat and linear structure containing hydrogen bonds that form polycrystalline
fiber bundles (Huber and BeMiller 2017). There are repeating glucopyranosyl units bound by 14
glycosidic linkages which form pleated chains parallel to the direction of the fibers (Belitz et al.
2009). The source of the cellulose affects the degree of polymerization which can range from 1000 to
14000 (Belitz et al. 2009). The hydrogen bonds that stabilize the parallel chains cause cellulose to
have a high molecular weight and be insoluble in water, however it can be modified to become water
soluble gums (Huber and BeMiller 2017).

Hot Potatoes (https://hotpot.uvic.ca) is a popular software consisting of 6 different educational
applications. Each program enables users, especially teachers to generate different teaching exercises.
Each kind of applications can be used to make a distinct kind of exercises. JBC or Masher, allows
teachers to create multiple choice quizzes whereas JQuiz is useful in text entry with hints available for
students. Another program, JMix lets produce the jumbled word exercises in which students have to
reorder the words logically. Regarding JCross, it is much more convenient than Excel when creating
crosswords in case of complex construction. JCloze produces exercises in form of fill in the blank,
which allows gapping selected words or random gapping. The final application JMatch means
matching fixed items on the left columns to the confusing items on the right ones. Each program

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction.
To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a
polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for
a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that
when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be
expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the
binomial theorem. Each of these terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content on

Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values.
Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and π, it can be stated
that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a
bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and π. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than
(a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and π, the term xn must be between 0 and πn. Niven

Human Rights Advocates Should Be Improved Labor Conditions

likely it was made in a hot, crowded sweatshop on the outskirts of a city or in some village. If you
were to survey a random group of individuals the majority would say they don t support sweatshop

The present state of manufacturing factories throughout Africa and Asia are consistently the center of

modern standards, sweatshops have existed for centuries and will likely continue into the distant
future. The topic of debate is centered around the conditions endured by ... Show more content on

Therefore, any action to regulate or restrict someone s right to work in a manufacturing plant is a
violation of their personal liberty and detrimental to their current level of living.
So what is life in a sweatshop really like? What effects do manufacturing firms have on communities
and how should educated consumers respond?
CONTEXT
History
The existence of sweatshops can be traced all the way back 1500 s when Spanish Conquistadors
claimed control of Ecuador and forced natives to work in their textile mills. The term itself references
England s manufacturing industries throughout the 1800 s. In English factories immigrants would
perform monotonous actions for long hours and meager pay. As immigration into America increased
during the late 1800 s so did the quantity of sweatshops. The employers of these immigrants preyed
upon their lack of education and inability to read or write. Immigrants had to endure overcrowded
workplaces, poor sanitation, high expectations, and were rarely given the chance to take a break.
Nonetheless, they were more than grateful for the opportunities they were presented with and were
more than ecstatic to escape the hardships of their old lives. Eventually better working conditions
were established but not until America s economy had strengthened as a whole. Too many people try
to attribute improvements like the 40 hour work

Nursing has been striving to become a research based profession since the Briggs Report (1972) and
the lack of apparent integration of research findings into nursing practice has been lamented
consistently ever since (Walsh and Ford, 1989). As long ago as 1989 the Department of Health (DoH),
in their Strategy for Nursing stated; All clinical practice should be founded on up to date information
and research findings.
Practitioners should be encouraged to identify the needs and opportunities for research presented by
their work. Research is fundamental to achieving evidence based practice in nursing. Evidence based
health care aims to promote clinical and cost effective care/treatment through the explicit,
conscientious, and judicious use of the currently available best evidence from research to guide
decisions (Sackett et al, 1996).
Recently, there has been an increasing emphasis on evidence based practice. The NHS information
strategy, the development of the NHS net and the National Electronic Library for Health all testify to
the NHS commitment of bringing research evidence closer to clinical decision makers (Thompson et
al 2001). Journal based initiatives are also available such as Evidence Based Nursing (Cullum et al.
1997) and Clinical Effectiveness in Nursing (Newell 1997). Furthermore, guidance can be found in

As a conservative, I still feel that the social class of the individual greatly affects the political ideology

therefore education is one of the leading issues many Americans feel strongly about today. As I stated

The Impact Of Stereotypes On Society
The Impact of Stereotypes on Society I think that we should get to know someone before we
discriminate on them because they could actually be a nice person. Stereotypes are judgmental people
that can be negative to society because if they are discriminating a person, it could affect that person
and everyone around them. Everyone can be a stereotype, even if they are not trying to be. We all use
stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. We have met the enemy of equality, and the enemy is us.
b Stereotypes can be defined as a fixed image or set of features that a lot of people stand for or
represent a particular type of person or thing , and they impact our society in many ways
(Stereotypes). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says it s like you
re trapped. You have to constantly fight against it to disprove it, and yet, at the same time, you don t
want to appear as if you re not part of a collective and loyal to it and reflect it in positive ways as well.
(Raz, Jamila). This helps define stereotypes because they will say things about you that aren t true and
you have to fight to prove them wrong. At the same time you want to reflect in positive ways because
you don t want to appear as if you have a bad reputation. Clearly, Stereotypes have a negative impact
on society. In another interview with Guy Raz, Maz Jobrani says A lot of times in Hollywood when
casting directors find out you re of Middle Eastern descent, they go, oh,

Albert Camus Death
The thematics of death are almost infinite. And with many possibilities there is no surprise that death
can play an important role into the theme of a book. One case of this is shown in Albert Camus s The
Stranger where Meursault, the narrator of the book, dies. When approaching his execution he
understands that no one person has significant worth. That shows a philosophical view/theme that no
other book has shown as clearly before it.
Throughout the book you can sense the buildup to Camus central message. This came to a point when
Meursault is killed. He seemed indifferent to any situation he was in, even after learning his neighbor
was beating his mistress. He still agreed to be friends because he doesn t really care for the woman,
but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Camus argues that there is only one thing certain in life and that is death. Meursault doesn t fully
understand this until right before he is about to be guillotined. He realizes that he has no meaning and
is not special. He will be born then die just like everyone else.
As you uncover his peculiarities, you may be confused on why the writer would make him this way
but it is all cleared up when he is killed. Meursault is being executed for a crime he did for no reason,
however; he seems unworried by his situation even after a sad conversation with Marie in the prison
cell. Before he is killed he gives a very important quote that shows the philosophy the books wants to
portray, for everything to be consummated, for me to feel less alone, I had only to wish that there be a
large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they greet me with cries of hate . This
quote shows above all else that humans are ultimately responsible for their acts whether good or bad.
Death plays many roles in books it is often used to develop major themes. This is especially the case
in Albert Camus s book, The Stranger . Meursault s death is a vital aspect to show the book s theme.
Without the message his death brings the story would not be the

As described earlier, the pressure coefficients recommended by ASCE 7 10 are based on the 3 seconds
(3 s) gust speeds, and therefore the time histories of pressure data from the field, experimental

the code. For the TTU field data and CFD LES, the time history of 15 min wind velocity and pressure

The first input argument, X , stands for the time history of pressure data, and the second input
argument dur_ratio , defines the ratio of the duration for which peaks are required to the duration of
the time series. In this study for calculating the 95% peak quantile for 1 hour (60 min), while having a
15 min data for TTU and CFD LES, a value of 60/15=4 was used for dur_ratio . And for CDF_qnt a
value of 0.95 was considered to calculate 95% peak quantiles.
For the open jet testing data, however, the wind velocity and pressure data were available
corresponding to 1 hour in full scale. Therefore, first the 3 s wind gust speed was identified by
defining the 3 seconds window approach, and after producing the new time history of pressure data, a
value of 1 was used for dur_ratio . For NIST/UWO wind tunnel data, only pressure data for 38.4 min
(2304 s) duration was available, and there was no time history of wind velocity. In that case, first the 3
s gust speed was estimated according to the durst curve (figure C26.5 1 from ASCE 7 10, which is
represented in ‎
Figure 4.4), and the non dimensional pressure data corresponding to 38.4 min duration
were divided by the square of the velocity ratio based on the durst curve (‎

(1.73/1.02)^2=2.88. Afterwards, the peak values of the new time history of pressure data were
estimated by using the function maxminqnt in (5 28) and applying a value of 60/38.4=1.56 for the

Barracks At The Security Police School At Lackland
It was a short drive over to the parking lot outside of building 7518. The two story khaki colored
building resembled the barracks at the Security Police School at Lackland. The building itself
provided a sense of familiarity, which helped ease some of my anxiety and uncertainty. Sgt. Billingsly
escorted me into the Dorm Managers office where I presented my military orders to Staff Sargent
Kingsley, the manager in charge of maintaining order in the barracks. He was also charged with
ensuring that the rules were followed with regards to maintenance and visitors. He had dark brown
hair, and by the looks of him, he spent hours in the gym lifting. He offered a friendly welcome and
asked if the PI was my first duty station. I said, Sir, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had lots of questions and of course, my curiosity had been sparked since my talk with Gene. I got
dressed and headed to the snack bar to find Billingsly. There was a classic 1970 s jukebox along the
right wall and a pool table in the middle of the room. Aside from Billingsly, who was talking to
someone, the place appeared deserted. Billingsly introduced me to an Airman Tom Simpson from
Huntington, West Virginia. Airman Simpson was about twenty and was shorter than me with a little
more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West Virginia were isolated rough and
rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and outgoing. Billingsly also introduced me to the
snack bar attendant and told her it is my first day on the island. She greeted me with a warm smile and
welcomed me to the PI. Billingsly and Simpson work together on day flight so Billingsly asked
Simpson if he wanted to go on my base tour followed by a downtown excursion. Simpson perked up
as soon as he heard downtown and almost knocked us down heading for the door. As we left the
barracks parking lot, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and lack of perimeter fence to keep
unauthorized personnel from entering the base. That explained the considerable need for the 3rd
Security Police Group. Billingsly explained that the perimeter of the base totaled approximately 27
miles, but only about 10 miles of the perimeter fence line was still intact. Over the years, it collapsed

Examples Of Masculinity In I Got You
The difference in I Got You is that unlike your typical love stories, one partner isn t there just to save
the other, but Benjamin helps Jake save himself. He believed in Jake and helped him accomplish
something for himself, he gave him strength and wasn t there just so Jake could coward out and
depend on him. Benjamin helped Jake so that he could survive on his on. In many love stories this isn
t so true. The prince always saves the princess and all she learn is there will be a prince to rescue her
from her problems. For anyone who reads I Got You, they will clearly see that even though the cliché
theme of love conquers all is in the story, they will also see the themes of learning to be true to
yourself, stand up for yourself, and stand up for what you believe in, even when no one else will.
Representations of Masculinity
Being Masculine is something that most of us, even women are very familiar with. When we think of
masculinity we think of toxic masculinity or being hyper aggressive, non emotional, hypersexual, and
violent. For society, that is what masculinity is, toxic. In Jamie Lake s I Got You, there were at least
three different representations of masculinity. I believe that Jamie Lake gave ... Show more content on

pleasure was Benjamin s pleasure. (Pg. 2944) Should that even be a question, that you re partner does

Whether or Not Quotas for Job Applicant Selection Are a...
In this essay I will consider whether or not quotas for job applicant selection are a solution to racial
inequality in the United States of America. In considering this subject I will rely on In Defense of
Quotas by James Rachels who argues that the use of Quotas is justifiable in certain circumstances.
First I will qualify my use of the word race and clarify what I mean when I reference racial equality.
Then I will present an argument that quotas will not work as the sole solution to racial inequality.
After this I will support a premise for my main argument which is that not all of the races are
equivalently qualified for potentially equivalent jobs. After this I will consider a possible objection to
my argument which is that quotas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus it seems that as Rachels presents them, quotas, although justifiable, most likely would not solve
the inequality of wealth between different groups of people unless groups are equally qualified for
jobs. If this is true, then, although quotas could do some good, they would not make our current
system drastically less biased towards the preference of peoples from majority races. It seems to be the
case that racial groups are not equally qualified for jobs, because further education is a major
qualification for a job and it is not currently the case that different racial groups are equally prepared
for further education after high school. According to a study by Rachel E. Durham and the Baltimore
Education Research Consortium The average person with a bachelor s degree earns almost twice as
much as a high school graduate and nearly triple that of someone who did not finish high school. The
unemployment rate for people with bachelor s degrees is about one third that for non high school
graduates and one half that of high school graduates (Durham). Therefore, it seems to be the case that
if someone is accepted into a college, can pay for college, and can pass all of their college classes,
then, in most cases, that person has, or will have a college degree and therefore a major qualification
for a job. This major qualification for a job can allow its recipient to have access higher paying jobs
and to have a lower rate of

Witch Trials and reveals the theme that lies blind even the most well intended from the truth.
Reverend Hale represents a good uncorrupt holy man, unlike Parris, and we have chosen a New
Testament bible due to his piety, but also due to the Congregationalist Protestant faith which settled in
New England. Hale presents himself as an educated man of the world and at the time only priests
became educated so we have chosen a textbook. From the very beginning, Hale searches for the truth

Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay
Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in
an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency,
decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of
health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an
important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is
very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite
considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics
health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now
kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical
history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of
medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow
patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email
access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of
information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake,

How Did Johannes Gutenberg Impact The Modern World
In the year 1440, Johannes Gutenberg created the printing press, and his effect on society and the way
information was spread can never be overstated in the slightest. This device allowed for more
opportunities for literacy and learning to take place. But exactly how much of an impact did Johannes
Gutenberg have on the modern world and its technology? Johannes Gutenberg s printing press was
perhaps the most influential device of its time, and changed the modern world as we know it.
Gutenberg s machine allowed for books to be printed and distributed quickly, and mistakes could be
fixed in the blink of an eye. We will be looking at the biggest changes Gutenberg s printing press
brought to society. Firstly, Gutenberg made literacy and reading more available to the public. Because
books used to be handwritten, they were only available for the rich and wealthy who were able to
afford a scribe who would write the entire book they wanted by hand. With the printing press,
however, books were made available to the public because of the lack of a need for a scribe. The
printers during this time were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When books were only available for the wealthy who owned scribes, if the scribe messed up, they had

could be produced in quantity, arranged, and moved around so that mistakes could be corrected easily,
and the type could economically be reused for the next project. Both of the earlier methods of
reproduction were expensive and time consuming. The combination of movable type, oil based inks,
and a workable press revolutionized European bookmaking and spread rapidly across the continent
and later the world. (LINK) Gutenberg s effects on the rate and ease of production of literature simply
cannot be understated. This changed the production of inked based products

Longing For Love
A Comparative Essay By Jack Ettlinger
In the song I Just Haven t Met You Yet (IJHMYY) written and composed by Michael Buble, themes
such as love, optimism, and loneliness are all are evident. These themes are also found in the song
Love Song For No One (LSFNO), written and composed by John Mayer, but optimism is replaced by
pessimism. Both of these songs are about a man longing for love; however, in the first, the man is
optimistic and hopeful, while in the second he is getting anxious and a little doubtful. The way that the
themes are portrayed are both similar and different in that they are about love, optimism/pessimism
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mayer says that he has been, searching all my days just to find you not sure who I m looking for, and
the listener feels his exhaustion, sadness and most of all, his loneliness.
In his song, Michael Buble is clearly lonely, but his loneliness in motivating him to persevere in his
life, and to find the one that will complete him. The lyric I know someday that it ll all turn out, you ll
make me work, so we can work to work it out shows this. He knows that the love of his life is out
there and that she is coming, and therefore his loneliness feels temporary. There is, in his mind, an end
in sight. He understands that he has to be patient: I might have to wait, I ll never give up, I guess it s
half timing and the other half s luck. Buble trusts that love is coming for him. He knows he won t have
to be lonely for too long.
The songs, I Just Haven t Met you Yet, and Love Song For No One both focus on the theme of love,
and at first glance, can be perceived as very similar. But by dissecting the lyrics and looking more
closely at the undertones and messages of both songs, we find that they are actually almost opposite in
their approach to the mystery of love.
As an ending note, John Mayer is still girlfriend less, while, as a true example of life imitating art,
Michael Buble is engaged to the beautiful model who played the girl of his dreams in the video for his
hit song. I guess he really did meet her after all.

Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology is always advancing, and people use it almost everywhere. It s used in jobs, homes, and
everyday life. Recently technology also has made an immense impact on the way people learn. Many
people have different opinions on how to use technology, and if it is a good tool for information. Some
believe the use of the internet can help with creativity, and comprehensive. Other believe that through
using internet imagination is lessened, and that it leaves students not understanding what was read.
Technology can have positive, and negative results, it also had many different tests and studies done to
see the impacts. When using technology for learning, many people have explained the positive
outcome that is made. It was shown that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there was positive impacts from video games, there was negatives as well. Playing violent
videos has lead to people becoming more aggressive in real life, and leading kids to be less sensitive
to real life problems (Wolpert). When reading, and finding information is done online students won t
read as fully as they need to. A university professor has explained that Google is not enough to find
the information you need, and if the teachers don t help the kids slow down and read deeply, they won
t comprehend what they are reading (Simpson). If students aren t understanding what they are reading,
because they have not read deeply enough, it will not benefit their learning. Wiring classrooms for
internet access does not enhance learning (Wolpert). Another downside to technology is false
information, and distraction. With internet always at your fingertips, it is obvious that it can cause
distractions keeping you from learning, and the information you receive may not be the most valuable
either (Skovira). Many believe that the internet is not going to have the resources you need, and that
using technology isn t going to better anybodies learning. To demonstrate the impacts of technology
on our learning, good and bad, researches have completed studies and tests. In one study, researchers
were able to predict future laparoscopic surgeon, based upon the skill they exhibited while
participating in video games. Another study included

immigration has long been a problem in the USA since the latter half of the 20th century. In spite of all

It simply sends out a wrong message, effectively rewarding them for breaking the law. Another
obstacle is that it would cause major problems in terms of jobs and crime. According to Pia (2012)
amnesty can result in reducing overall wages and make it difficult for some workers to find a job and
that after receiving an amnesty they pay less in taxes than what they receive in services. So, it can be
inferred that amnesty is not that efficient solution when it comes to diminishing the phenomenon of
illegal immigration. After mentioning amnesty another debatable solution was suggested which is
deportation. Deportation is the act of legally removing foreign nationals and return them back to their
country of origin. Voices supporting deportation claim that it is a rapid method to get rid of the masses
of illegal immigrants. They also suggested that the previous deportation attempts had been a success.
According to Rubenstein (2006) he mentioned that looking at the history of deportation would assume
that it may work today. However, if it was inspected from the ethical point of view, it would show a
clear violation of human rights. The American college of physicians (2015) in a press release called to
stop deportation and urged physician to oppose it. Furthermore, the real cost of deportation is too
expensive. deportation costs the U.S economy $2.6 trillion in lost

Butler s Gender Trouble
We tend to think of power as laws and the act of regulating behavior. In Butler s Gender Trouble she
talks about how power not only regulates but also forms who we are as individuals. For Foucault
power comes from knowledge which he discusses in The History of Sexuality. Foucault discusses the
concept of biopolitics, which links biological processes, such as the reproductive process which can be
be controlled via birth control, to economic or political power, for example when the government
controls what kind of birth control is legal and acceptable and economically they make millions of
dollars on the birth control pill and condoms. Similar to biopolitics is the concept of bio power, ...it

Foucault states that this power comes from discourse of a subject. In The History of Sexuality he
focuses on the myth that sexual repression occurred during the Victorian era. He argues that in fact sex
was turned into discourse due to the occurrence of the confessional that took place in the Catholic
church. At this time the catholic churches made sex and sexual desires sinful and something that
needed to be told in confession in order for the individual to repent. Due to the need to confess people
were forced to think about their desires and after confessing the priest s judgement and language that
was used turned the individual desires into discourse. This time in history was the way to sexuality
becoming controlled. The information that was gained gave power to the priests to make these
individuals repent and feel sinful for having these desires. This phenomenon is not only seen in the
case of sex and sexual desires but in anything where individuals start to talk and where professionals
take advantage of the information and feed on the need to control how individuals see

classical model the interest rate is determined by the demand for and supply of loanable funds, money
available to be borrowed. If households desired to save more than investors wanted to borrow, the
surplus of funds would drive down the interest rate. Because the interest rate is both the reward
households receive for saving and the price businesses pay to finance investment, a declining interest
rate would both discourage saving and encourage investment. The interest rate would continue to fall

The Vasa Gunship Catastrophe
Introduction
In 1626, the Swedish gunship, Vasa, was constructed for war against Poland. King Gustav II of
Sweden spared no expense and demanded the ship be the grandest, most prestigious watercraft ever
created. His demand was fulfilled, however due to continuous design changes, inadequate
communication, and a stringent timeline, the ship was poorly constructed. As a result, Vasa sunk after
sailing only 1,000 yards, perishing 50 men and all of the war supplies.
1. Who is responsible for this catastrophe?
In this case, it is difficult to blame one individual for the Vasa catastrophe because several decision
makers were involved. Still, King Gustav s numerous design alterations complicated construction and
pressured decision makers into accommodating his irrational demands. Additionally, King Gustav did
not communicate well with the shipbuilders, admiral, and seamen, and instead solely concentrated on
outshining other ships. Therefore, his lacking leadership and communication created confusion and
stress, which trickled down and ultimately led to the failure.
2. Were there any inappropriate risks that should not have been taken? How can these be identified
and mitigated on future shipbuilding initiatives?
During construction, there were several inappropriate risks taken. For example, time was not invested
into accurately drawing engineering plans that accommodated the King s requests to increase the size
of the keel and number of guns. Additionally, when the principal

Socio Economic Conditions of Pakistan
June 25 2007: Poverty remains a serious concern in Pakistan as a large segment of the population lives
in poverty. According to the rebased GDP numbers, the per capita income comes to US$845. Poverty
rates, which had fallen substantially in the 1980s and early 1990s, started to rise again toward the end
of the decade.
More importantly, differences in income per capita across regions have persisted or widened. Poverty

urban Sindh to 41% in rural NWFP.

It is well known that in Sindh, the factors related to poverty reflect both the disappointing levels of
recent economic growth and a range of difficult environmental problems, many of them related to an
acute shortage of water and a poor and unreliable water supply. The livelihood prospects of the
poorest groups are also affected by the extreme economic inequalities that persist in many rural areas
and the continued prevalence of social institutions and different forms of violence that impact
negatively on their lives.

  • 3. Band Of Brothers Analysis Band of Brothers Band of Brothers, a 2001 mini series of the non fictional historical account of the US Army s famous 101st Airborne Division, was set during World War II. This show details the combined experiences of Major Richard Dick Winters and the men of Easy Company 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The series has a war genre mostly, however there is drama and bits of comedy. These men who fought was known as the good war were hardened men, who sacrificed so much, for sometimes too little. The series also gets the original surviving members into talking about the war and showing their emotions as they come out especially at certain parts that are too hard for them to tell. The ... Major Winters quoted a line from William Shakespeare St. Crispin s Day Speech We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. • 4. Diego De Landa WEEK 2: In this chapter, the authors go into great detail outlining the nature of ancient Mayan numerical and calendrical systems and their concept of astronomy. Given that the text is found in The Ancient Maya, and written by established Mayan scholars such as Morely, Brainerd and Sharer, I have few doubts on the validity and trustworthiness of this reading. The text is well researched and the authors go into meticulous detail outlining the various systems and make references to many archaeological sources such as ancient stelae and colonial accounts by Diego de Landa. While there is no denying that this is an interesting and informative read, it is unclear to me how this reading can be connected to the study of colonial history apart from ... This classification is important to make, as despite the fact that Cortés was present and an active participant in the encounter, this does not guarantee an honest account of the events. It is important to keep in mind, that in writing the letters, Cortés had a personal and political agenda and sought to justify and legitimise his actions. In reading the two texts, there are inconsistencies in the manner that Cortés and Moctezuma met and greeted one another and in the nature of the conversations that took place between them. The most notable being the absence of Malintzin or Doña Marina from Cortes account. The absence of Doña Marina from Cortés accounts are particularly interesting to me given her occupation as Cortés mediator and translator throughout the conquest. However, given the fact that Cortés way trying to undermine his rival Diego Velazquez, it is probable that he wanted to portray himself in the best light, and claim sole responsibility for his success. While Cortés fails to mention Marina, she is referenced several times in Sahagún s codex. In the illustrations done by native artists, she is depicted several times. In one of the images, she is standing between Cortés and Moctezuma, elaborately dressed and clearly a central figure of communication and negotiation between the two parties. It is interesting that given the little references made to her in the written texts, her appearance in the illustrations clearly indicate that the Nahuas recognised her role and importance to the ... • 11. The Derivatives Of Cellulose Cellulose is a well known carbohydrate that is currently being impressively utilized within the food industry. Derivatives of cellulose, can be used to improve texture, to act as edible microcomposite films, and to provide antibacterial packaging. Some cellulose derivatives are carboxymethyl cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, and microfibrillated cellulose (Belitz et al. 2009). Cellulose is a polysaccharide derived from plant cell walls that is digestible by the enzyme cellulase (Belitz et al. 2009). Humans can not digest cellulose because cellulase is not present in the digestive tract, however this indigestible carbohydrate is a major component of dietary fiber and improves digestion (Belitz et al. 2009). On the other hand, herbivores have rumen microflora that can hydrolyze cellulose (Belitz et al. 2009). Cellulose consists of a flat and linear structure containing hydrogen bonds that form polycrystalline fiber bundles (Huber and BeMiller 2017). There are repeating glucopyranosyl units bound by 14 glycosidic linkages which form pleated chains parallel to the direction of the fibers (Belitz et al. 2009). The source of the cellulose affects the degree of polymerization which can range from 1000 to 14000 (Belitz et al. 2009). The hydrogen bonds that stabilize the parallel chains cause cellulose to have a high molecular weight and be insoluble in water, however it can be modified to become water soluble gums (Huber and BeMiller 2017). ... To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. The term itself references England s manufacturing industries throughout the 1800 s. In English factories immigrants would perform monotonous actions for long hours and meager pay. As immigration into America increased during the late 1800 s so did the quantity of sweatshops. The employers of these immigrants preyed upon their lack of education and inability to read or write. • 19. The Impact Of Stereotypes On Society The Impact of Stereotypes on Society I think that we should get to know someone before we discriminate on them because they could actually be a nice person. Stereotypes are judgmental people that can be negative to society because if they are discriminating a person, it could affect that person and everyone around them. Everyone can be a stereotype, even if they are not trying to be. We all use stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. We have met the enemy of equality, and the enemy is us. b Stereotypes can be defined as a fixed image or set of features that a lot of people stand for or represent a particular type of person or thing , and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotypes). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says it s like you re trapped. You have to constantly fight against it to disprove it, and yet, at the same time, you don t want to appear as if you re not part of a collective and loyal to it and reflect it in positive ways as well. (Raz, Jamila). This helps define stereotypes because they will say things about you that aren t true and you have to fight to prove them wrong. At the same time you want to reflect in positive ways because you don t want to appear as if you have a bad reputation. Clearly, Stereotypes have a negative impact on society. As you uncover his peculiarities, you may be confused on why the writer would make him this way but it is all cleared up when he is killed. For the TTU field data and CFD LES, the time history of 15 min wind velocity and pressure data at full scale were available. Therefore, the three seconds (3 s) wind velocity was calculated by dividing the time history of velocity into several windows, each one with a length of 3 seconds. The mean value for each window was calculated, and then the maximum of calculated mean values was specified as the 3 s wind velocity. The non dimensional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first input argument, X , stands for the time history of pressure data, and the second input argument dur_ratio , defines the ratio of the duration for which peaks are required to the duration of the time series. In this study for calculating the 95% peak quantile for 1 hour (60 min), while having a 15 min data for TTU and CFD LES, a value of 60/15=4 was used for dur_ratio . And for CDF_qnt a value of 0.95 was considered to calculate 95% peak quantiles. For the open jet testing data, however, the wind velocity and pressure data were available corresponding to 1 hour in full scale. Therefore, first the 3 s wind gust speed was identified by defining the 3 seconds window approach, and after producing the new time history of pressure data, a value of 1 was used for dur_ratio . For NIST/UWO wind tunnel data, only pressure data for 38.4 min (2304 s) duration was available, and there was no time history of wind velocity. Then I will present an argument that quotas will not work as the sole solution to racial inequality. Thus it seems that as Rachels presents them, quotas, although justifiable, most likely would not solve the inequality of wealth between different groups of people unless groups are equally qualified for jobs. If this is true, then, although quotas could do some good, they would not make our current system drastically less biased towards the preference of peoples from majority races. It seems to be the case that racial groups are not equally qualified for jobs, because further education is a major qualification for a job and it is not currently the case that different racial groups are equally prepared for further education after high school. According to a study by Rachel E. How Did Johannes Gutenberg Impact The Modern World In the year 1440, Johannes Gutenberg created the printing press, and his effect on society and the way information was spread can never be overstated in the slightest. This device allowed for more opportunities for literacy and learning to take place. But exactly how much of an impact did Johannes Gutenberg have on the modern world and its technology? Johannes Gutenberg s printing press was perhaps the most influential device of its time, and changed the modern world as we know it. Gutenberg s machine allowed for books to be printed and distributed quickly, and mistakes could be fixed in the blink of an eye. We will be looking at the biggest changes Gutenberg s printing press brought to society. Firstly, Gutenberg made literacy and reading more available to the public. Because books used to be handwritten, they were only available for the rich and wealthy who were able to afford a scribe who would write the entire book they wanted by hand. With the printing press, however, books were made available to the public because of the lack of a need for a scribe. The printers during this time were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Comparative Essay-Music Longing for Love: A Comparative Essay Jack Ettlinger ENG4U1 Ms. Palka July 18, 2010. Longing For Love A Comparative Essay By Jack Ettlinger In the song I Just Haven t Met You Yet (IJHMYY) written and composed by Michael Buble, themes such as love, optimism, and loneliness are all are evident. These themes are also found in the song Love Song For No One (LSFNO), written and composed by John Mayer, but optimism is replaced by pessimism. Both of these songs are about a man longing for love; however, in the first, the man is optimistic and hopeful, while in the second he is getting anxious and a little doubtful. Mayer says that he has been, searching all my days just to find you not sure who I m looking for, and the listener feels his exhaustion, sadness and most of all, his loneliness. In his song, Michael Buble is clearly lonely, but his loneliness in motivating him to persevere in his life, and to find the one that will complete him. The lyric I know someday that it ll all turn out, you ll make me work, so we can work to work it out shows this. He knows that the love of his life is out there and that she is coming, and therefore his loneliness feels temporary. There is, in his mind, an end in sight. He understands that he has to be patient: I might have to wait, I ll never give up, I guess it s half timing and the other half s luck. Buble trusts that love is coming for him. He knows he won t have to be lonely for too long. The songs, I Just Haven t Met you Yet, and Love Song For No One both focus on the theme of love, and at first glance, can be perceived as very similar. But by dissecting the lyrics and looking more closely at the undertones and messages of both songs, we find that they are actually almost opposite in their approach to the mystery of love. As an ending note, John Mayer is still girlfriend less, while, as a true example of life imitating art, Michael Buble is engaged to the beautiful model who played the girl of his dreams in the video for his hit song. I guess he really did meet her after all. I Just Haven t Met You

Foucault states that this power comes from discourse of a subject. In The History of Sexuality he focuses on the myth that sexual repression occurred during the Victorian era. At this time the catholic churches made sex and sexual desires sinful and something that needed to be told in confession in order for the individual to repent. Due to the need to confess people were forced to think about their desires and after confessing the priest s judgement and language that was used turned the individual desires into discourse. Why were the classical economists so sure that the amount households wished to save would equal the amount businesses wanted to invest? Because of interest rates. In the classical model the interest rate is determined by the demand for and supply of loanable funds, money available to be borrowed. If households desired to save more than investors wanted to borrow, the surplus of funds would drive down the interest rate. Because the interest rate is both the reward households receive for saving and the price businesses pay to finance investment, a declining interest rate would both discourage saving and encourage investment. • 36. The Vasa Gunship Catastrophe Introduction In 1626, the Swedish gunship, Vasa, was constructed for war against Poland. King Gustav II of Sweden spared no expense and demanded the ship be the grandest, most prestigious watercraft ever created. His demand was fulfilled, however due to continuous design changes, inadequate communication, and a stringent timeline, the ship was poorly constructed. As a result, Vasa sunk after sailing only 1,000 yards, perishing 50 men and all of the war supplies. 1. Who is responsible for this catastrophe? In this case, it is difficult to blame one individual for the Vasa catastrophe because several decision makers were involved. Still, King Gustav s numerous design alterations complicated construction and pressured decision makers into accommodating his irrational demands. Additionally, King Gustav did not communicate well with the shipbuilders, admiral, and seamen, and instead solely concentrated on outshining other ships. Therefore, his lacking leadership and communication created confusion and stress, which trickled down and ultimately led to the failure. 2. Were there any inappropriate risks that should not have been taken? How can these be identified and mitigated on future shipbuilding initiatives? During construction, there were several inappropriate risks taken. For example, time was not invested into accurately drawing engineering plans that accommodated the King s requests to increase the size of the keel and number of guns.
