Killer Whales Research Paper
Ocean giants that have captured the imagination of humans for centuries, whales are among the largest
mammals on earth. This diverse group of animals has over 75 separate species, and are considered by
scientists to be some of the most intelligent animals on the planet. While modern whales spend their
entire lives in water, they are air breathing mammals whose ancestors roamed land millions of years
ago. With so many interesting facts about whales, once question can be easily overlooked: Do whales
have (teeth)?
Whales belong to infraorder Cetacea, which includes two other ocean dwelling mammals: porpoises
and dolphins. While all whales are carnivores, that doesn t mean all whales have (teeth). Scientists
divide whales into two different parvorders based on this phenomenon: Odontoceti and Mysticeti.
Whales that belong to parvorder Odontoceti are also called toothed whales. Toothed whales actively
hunt their food and are known to eat a wide variety of animals including sea otters, seals, sharks,
squid, and even other whales.
Killer whales are the largest member of the dolphin family.
All toothed whales, including orcas and dolphins, are born with a mouth full of teeth!
The largest species of toothed whale is the sperm whale.
Sperm whales have teeth that can weigh as much as a kilogram, but scientists ... Show more content

When a baleen whale finds food, it opens its large mouth and sucks in whatever it plans on eating with
large amounts of sea water in one of three ways. Gulp feeders wait until they have a full mouth, then
press their tongues against the baleen. The pressure pushes the sea water out, and its food gets caught
in the baleen like a giant strainer. Once all the water is removed, the whale swallows its food whole.
Skim feeders use a different approach, skimming along the surface of the water with their mouths
open to catch zooplankton. Bottom feeders plow along the seabed and use their baleen to filter small
invertebrates from the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Article Video Games Can...
Rhetorical Analysis 1
The critical article Video games can never be art was written by Roger Ebert, who was a famous
American film critic. Ebert was a very popular and well celebrated journalist and film critic in his
field. He was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, which is the highest honor in
journalism (rogerebert.com and Wikipedia). This article is about Roger Ebert s critical analysis of
Kellee Santiago, a professional video game designer, presentation about video games as already being
a form of art. Roger Ebert is bias towards art given the fact that two of his definitions of what art
should be, can be used to explain many of characteristics of video games like the one presented by
Santiago. The first definition he presented was one from Wikipedia which states that games are
distinct from work which is usually carried out for remuneration and art ... Show more content on

It has rules, points, objectives, and an outcome. This is only a real difference if you wanted to be bias
towards art. For example if I pointed out that the difference between chickens and birds is that people
eat chicken eggs and not bird eggs, does that change the fact that chickens are bird? It should not,
because the fact would still remain that, they are the same, despite whether people chose to eat bird
eggs or chicken eggs. Games may have rules and outcomes, but abstract art, like Picasso s cubism, and
3D art of drawings and paintings, which was discovered during the renaissance, has rules and
techniques you must follow to get the outcome you desire. Those rules may not be as visible in art as
it is in games, but you can tell they exist because of the outcome difference between a good artist and
a bad one. Points, objectives and outcomes are not the difference between art and games just like how
humans eat chicken eggs is not the difference between a chicken and a

Worldcom Research Paper
There has been several high profile scandal in the past couple of years. One of this high profile
scandal is the WorldCom Scandal. The WorldCom scandal took place in year of 2002. MCI, Inc. also
known as WorldCom was an American telecommunication corporation, currently a subsidiary of
Verizon Communications, with its main office in Ashburn, Virginia. MCI filed the nation s largest
bankruptcy in July 2002 amid an accounting scandal that has grown to $11 billion. WorldCom had hid

stock holdings and owed millions to the banks he borrowed money from. In a desperate attempt to
prevent himself from going bankrupt, Ebbers and other company executives began fraudulently
altering WorldCom s financial statements. Many people were hurt by the WorldCom fraud. Lots of
honest, hard working line level WorldCom employees lost their jobs while losing the value of the
stock in their WorldCom retirement savings accounts at the same time. Other investors who depended
on WorldCom s false financial statements also lost what they invested. Nobody really benefited from

National First (Prime rate is 3.25%) +6.75% = 10% Semiannually
EAR = (1+.10/2) ^2 1 which is 10.25
Regions Best Rate is 13.17% Monthly
EAR = (1+.1317/12) ^12 1 which is 13.99
2.
I think that between National First and Regions Best that National first offers the lower rate after
computing the EAR. National first is also only compounded semiannually making it lower then
Regions Best. The only thing I worry about it the prime rate changing because if it rises a lot then it
could possibly become a higher interest rate them Regions best. At the time being if Air jets Best Inc.

to sometimes figure out what is appropriate to wear on a date if you are coming straight from work.

Embedding Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Perspectives
Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the curriculum has now become a
high priority amoungst schools across the nation. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and
Reporting Authority (ACARA) (2013), recognises that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Histories and Cultures cross curriculum priority is designed for all students to engage in
reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world s oldest continuous living cultures . By including
this, the curriculum will continue to see Indigenous culture throughout school become part of the
norm. Furthermore Indigenous Australian perspectives can and should be included in the classroom
and any barriers that arise can be overcome.
There is a height of significance when it comes to embedding Indigenous perspectives in the
curriculum and in schools. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, their
students thrive in educational environments where staff respect and promote strong Indigenous culture
and identity, build collaborative relationships and set high expectations (Kerley, 2015). Abiding by
this principle would see students thriving for higher education, recognizing this has made it quite
common for schools to introduce indigenous programs or units. These are put in place for the purpose
of being extra support to not only Indigenous students but for everyone at school serving as a source
of information and guidance. By incorporating these Units, cross curriculum

Marriott To Buy Starwood Hotels, Creating World s Largest...
Summary of Article
Marriott to Buy Starwood Hotels, Creating World s Largest Hotel Company is an article I retrieved
from The New York Times, which deliberates, how Marriott International acquired Starwood Hotels
and Resorts Worldwide for $12.2 billion. The announcement was a surprise to the industry, because
Hyatt Hotel Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group and some other Chinese companies were in
the blend to pursue the transaction, Additionally, Marriott is more considered as a dominant entity in
the hotel industry, especially in the upscale sector where Starwood also has a dominant name.
By Marriott, a strategic review begun several months ago but at first Marriott wasn t fully interested
due to higher list price. However as time went by, Marriott identified some relative shift in the value
of the company, which made it more attractive economically, and Marriott started to believe that they
can create value by merging the two company. The recognition of the value resulted a deal, which
created the world s largest hotel with more than 5,500 hotels.

How Does Peter Weir Use Visual Techniques In Gallipoli
In the visual text Gallipoli directed by Peter Weir an important idea that the director developed
through the text was courage.Courage is the the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face
difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery. This key idea enabled me, as an audience to
understand an important message of appreciation for teenagers through the use of visual and/or oral
techniques.
What are your legs? Springs, steel springs. What are they going to do? They re going to hurl me down
the track. How fast can you run? As fast as a leopard. How fast are you going to run? As fast as a

courage of these men portrayed the idea that they were all appreciative for their life, family, friends
and their right to be able to fight for king and country .This is an aspect that I believe that young
adults in modern society need to understand. Life is full of challenges and wars, however through a
combination of appreciation and courage anybody can overcome these hurdles., much like the
characters in the film. This soundtrack can also be linked outside the text to society. This is due to the
fact that in modern society use this soundtrack is used to remember heroes in A.N.Z.A.C and other
commemorations. Clearly Peter Weir used this music to forebode the idea that these soldiers would in
fact run over the trenches, which in turn will result in death. As an audience members this music was
effectively used to create an array of emotions while watching. Seeing these naive yet remarkably
courageous men in their last few minutes of life, leaves the audience in states of sadness and
happiness as I understood the ate of these soldiers. It is

Global Markets
DQ 1: Summarize the most important benefits and risks associated with diversification into global
markets.
There are benefits and there are risks associated with diversification into global markets.
Diversification into global markets means a company is seeking to have the control in one central area
instead of in many different areas because ultimately they are seeking to control their costs. The main
advantage of a global market is that a company does not need to make a lot of variations of a product.
They can instead just make one quality standardized product, which means it is easier for the company
to keep everyone on the same page in regard to any changes or innovations to their products.
Ultimately having a global market means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

languages depending upon where it s aired, but they have also tailored the shows characters and their

specific market that it is accessed in especially when it featured the characters from Sesame Street on
its interface. I found it pretty interesting that these two companies would go to such great lengths to
adapt to the local markets.

John Smith and William Bradford, both early colonial governors, were two writers from the same time
period. They each had their own distinct styles of writing that portrayed their differences in
personalities. Smith was a strong minded and action driven person, while Bradford was a thinker and
who took action with care. In their writings it is obvious they have noticeable personalities. They use
different ways of painting images in the reader s mind by using distinct vocabulary and writing styles.

The Duty Of Care On Public Bodies
An explanation will be made on how the current law addresses the imposition of a duty of care on
public bodies. An evaluation will then be made to determine whether the duty of care the police owe
to protect individuals from a known threat should be legally recognised.
The common law duty of care was established in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562 (HL) and
refined in Caparo Industries plc v Dickman [1990] 2 AC 605 (HL). Any party including public
authorities may owe a duty of care to another if particular conditions are fulfilled. The Caparo
conditions apply to public bodies in respect of whether it is fair, just and reasonable to impose a duty
of care on their actions.
The fundamental case to address the duty of care imposed on a ... Show more content on

Further to the general negligence position on public bodies, in instances of omissions the general
principle is that there is no duty to act unless a special relationship exists. However, there is an
exception, a duty is owed if proximity is established as demonstrated in Home Office v Dorset Yacht
Co Ltd [1970] UKHL 2.
Lord Bingham did not agree that the policy arguments established in Hill and subsequently followed
in Brooks to be appropriate in the context of Smith. In Smith he attempted to introduce a liability
principle . The principle proposed that where evidence is credible and the threat is specific and
imminent, reasonable steps must be taken to assess such a threat and act where necessary. He did not
agree that adopting the principle would induce defensive practices, neither did he agree that accepting
the principle would detract from the police s primary functions. The liability principle reflected the
content of Article 2 European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), Right to life.
Following the signing of the ECHR, the United Kingdom introduced the Human Rights Act 1998
(HRA 1998). Under s6(3)(a) HRA 1998, the courts are now considered a public body, therefore no
decisions they make can affect the guaranteed rights of any individual under ECHR. The introduction
of this legislation has resulted in individuals bringing claims for Human Rights breaches where

Similarities Between Jefferson Memorial And Pantheon
There are many similarities and differences between the Roman architecture and the Renaissance

The similarities in the architectural features are that they both have a spherical dome. They both have
steps leading up to the portico. Both buildings also have a pediment held up by the columns. Both the
structures are symmetrical and have 8 columns at the front. They have many similarities as the
Pantheon influenced Thomas Jefferson to make a similar structure, and because of the common dome
both the structures symbolized unity, and power. The difference is that the columns of the Pantheon
were Corinthian style columns in contrast to the Ionic style columns of the Jefferson Memorial. The
cella of the Jefferson memorial is open with columns as walls all around the rotunda. They were also
used for different purposes, the Pantheon is a temple and the Jefferson Memorial is a memorial.
However, just like how the dome represented the unity and symmetry of the Roman Empire, it also
symbolizes the democracy that has grown in America through unity.
There are many various features of Roman architecture that are evident in the Virginia State Capitol
Building and the Jefferson Memorial. Thomas Jefferson was influenced by both the Pantheon and
Maison Carree. Features like the symmetrical proportions of the buildings like the dome showed
continuity, this reflected on the glory of your society and the achievements they have accomplished, as
the imperial Rome was very successful. Most of the Roman structures also symbolized power as the
Roman valued this very much. America also values power so they may have been influenced by the

Literature And Songs Of Hebrew Literature
The people in mid 19th century, up until the beginning of 20th century, before the British .helped to
declare Israel a state; around Eastern Europe, the idea of nationality began to appear. Up until now,
Jewish people hadn t established a foundation that provided them with security; there was no real
place they could call home. Because they didn t have a place that was their own, other nations around
the world didn t view them as a nation, they were seen as individuals. Around this time, anti Semitism
began to emerge, it was time for the Jewish people to come together as one and let go of their past and
that desire drove them to a pivotal point in Jewish history. By analyzing different pieces of Hebrew
literature and songs that were written during this time in history, the evidence shows that the definition
of Jew changed and Jewish people started to look at themselves differently and gained confidence to
be a nation and not an individual. Avraham Shlonsky wrote a poem titled Tiller of the Soil
characterizes and defines the Jew and his/her hard work for the land and their passion for it. The way
Shlonsky uses the words and play on words emphasizes the point of a hard working Jew. One of the

Voluntourism In America
Voluntourism is a form of tourism, which travelers do voluntary work for a charity. Voluntourism,
which has become more popular in the recent past, started with good intentions of white westerners
spreading their knowledge and resources. Some forms of voluntourism have helped communities, but
not in orphanages. The good idea has transformed into a conscious clearing photo op that s
permanently affecting orphans and people in the international orphanage community. Voluntourism is
glamorizing orphanages making them appear better than lives at home, causing parents to surrender
their parental rights in order to give them a better life. The unthought of repercussions of orphanage

To solve this issue, we need to protect the orphans. We need to stop letting orphanages be treated like
daycare, need better background checks and training for volunteers, and stop letting inhumane
behaviors happen in our orphanages. Orphanages need more funding, better trained volunteers and
better resources. Orphans have been through alot and are resilient, but we need to protect orphans
around the world, giving them the closest thing we can to their families. With good volunteers, we can
change these kids lives and get them into the lives they deserve. Children are amazingly resilient... we
find that if we get them out of institutions and into loving families early on, they recover their
developmental delays and go on to lead normal happy lives.

Colonial Legislatures In America
The colonial legislatures, the First Great Awakening, the term Patriots , and the Preamble to the U.S
Constitution all relate to the historical theme of Ideas, Beliefs, and Culture. To begin with, the colonial
legislatures were a legislative system that consisted of an assembly and a council that controlled the
decision of taxes. The colonial legislatures were developed during the time that Great Britain was
under the policy of salutary neglect, which meant that the colonial legislatures gave the colonists a
sense of control over their business and affairs. This political movement helped shape the American
society because it gave the American society a sense of independence over Great Britain when they

These terms relate to this theme because they relate to how the Americas influenced the wider world
and how the world influenced the Americas. To begin with, the Albany Plan of Union was the
proposal set to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government,
however, the plan was never carried out. The Albany Plan of Union was the first important proposal
that revealed the colonies as a collective whole under one government. This relates to the place of the
Americas in world context because it was the first stepping stone that led to the government that
governs the United States today. The government has to do with the outer world because it controls
foreign business with other countries. Second, the Proclamation of 1763 was created to alleviate
relations with American Indians after the French and Indian War. The Proclamation of 1763 was
passed by the British government and stated that settlers weren t allowed to pass the Appalachian
Mountains. This led to rebellion amongst the settlers because it required any settlers living West of the
Appalachian mountain to move back East. This authoritative act passed by the British crown relates to
how the outer world influenced the Americas because it displays a cause and effect situation of how
the British crown ignited a reaction within the Americas. The Intolerable Acts were also an
authoritative act passed by the British crown that influenced a reaction within the Americas. The
Intolerable Acts were a set of laws passed that restricted the rights of the colonists of Massachusetts
after the Boston Tea Party. With limited rights the colonists began to rebel and revolt just as they had
down for the Proclamation of 1763. The Intolerable Acts also exhibit how the wider world, the British
crown, influenced the Americas, the

Daisy Miller Research Paper
In the novel Daisy Miller, writer Henry James shows the different cultures between American and
European. Henry James more like the American culture, he had confidence in American culture and
believed that America was a country of democracy and freedom. For his novels he always set against a
larger international background, usually between America and Europe by showing the two different
culture with two different groups of people representing two different value systems. The pattern of
his novels is use young American man or her destiny to show the conflict between two cultures. The
immature boy or girl would be cruelly wronged, betrayed and beguiled at the hand, those who pretend
to stand for the highest possible socialization. James usually uses marriage and love as a focal point ...

In this novel from those characteristics we can find how Henry James set this up. Europeans were

rules you live by cannot be changed. So he uses Daisy Miller as represent American as freedom, but
Daisy Miller has never become the American girl in Europe. Just like Giovanelli tells Winterbourne
that Daisy was: the most beautiful young lady I ever saw, and the most amiable... and the most
innocent. In my opinion, if a person wants to successfully deal with a new culture. He must first learn
to affirm and respect different rules in that culture. Because those rules are the rich experience of
unman experience. Then, he should adjust himself in a way based on who you are and how you live,
so you can fit in the current situation. At the end you should be able to socialize in a way that fits the

Child Labor And Sweatshops In The United States
In the United States, child labor and sweatshops are illegal, and society frowns upon any business that
exploits children in the production of goods. Though most would say that they would not support a
company that uses child labor to produce its goods, almost everyone has, in fact, knowingly or
unknowingly, supported these businesses in one way or another. Children are involved in the
production of many of the everyday goods we import from overseas, including the manufacturing of
clothes, shoes, toys, and sporting equipment, the farming of cocoa, cotton, sugarcane, and bananas,
and the mining of coal, diamonds, and gold (The U.S. Dept. of Labor). Often, we are blinded to this
fact.

To target child labor and other abusive labor relationships, the Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor,

Vying for Patients, Hospitals Think Location, Location.
INTRODUCTION. Hospitals are health care institutions that are normally located in areas that are
densely populated. There are over 17,000 hospitals in the whole world. In accord with the original
meaning of the word, hospitals were originally places of hospitality , and this meaning is still
preserved in the names of some institutions such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, established in 1681 as
a retirement and nursing home for veteran soldiers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital#General) In

In some other cases locating near other hospitals as discussed earlier helps in the reduction of
transport cost. So with this factor one must weigh the benefits of locating away from other hospitals
versus locating near other hospitals. b. The physical facility in terms of building is an important aspect
in consideration of the location of a hospital. Depending on the kind of services the hospital wants to
provide the building facilities must be conducive enough to accommodate the equipment to be used in
the providing of those services. This will greatly impact the quality of services provided by the
hospital that will help in the acquiring of larger market share and optimize profits. c. The geography
and demographic of the hospital s location may plays an important role in market share and profit
optimization. The hospital industry is highly regulated and as such is vulnerable to government
reimbursement. For this reason, a highly profit hospital will likely have a growing pool of
commercially insured patients. So a hospital may rather locate itself in neighborhoods of high income
earners because they are the ones who are likely to have both the money and the insurance to pay the
medical bills. This will greatly help in profit optimization because this will mean less patients
receiving services on credit but rather more patients paying cash

Elite Athletes
Should Elite Athletes Be Role Models For Children? The idea that when growing up as a child, we
lose some illusion in order to obtain new ones tie in with the understanding that children s minds are
not matured enough to adequately understand the meaning of a true role model. Children do not
understand that athletes are performers and are paid to be performers because that is their job.
Professional athletes are not paid to be a role model hence, they are not obligated to live up to the
expectations that exceeds beyond performing on the field. According to the National Academy of
Science, National Academy of Engineering, and Institution of Medicine (1997), a role model is

In order to truly understand the reasons, children must have the knowledge and the representation of
knowledge about the subject. But ultimately, children must be able to show the formal manipulation of
symbols representing a collection of believed propositions to produce a representation of new ones
(Brachman, Levesque, Pagnucco, 2004, p.4). This will allow children to effectively reason beyond the
athlete s athletic skills, abilities, and competencies on the playing field. As a of effective reasoning
children will be able to define their role models as by morality, honor, citizenship, generativity,
meritocratic personality traits, self actualization, and interpersonal qualities (Guest Cox, 2009).
Connecting with my view that children cannot interact with athletes on a daily basis and form
meaningful relationships creates a barrier preventing children from justifying why athletes should be
role models. In order for children to agree that athletes can be role models, they would have to be
around them on a daily basic and form a reputable relationship. And since athletes do not form
reputable relationships with fans because it is not obligated as part of the athlete s profession, it leaves
athletes unqualified to be role models. So athletes are poor choices of role models for children because
there are many favorable qualified individuals who can have more direct impact on the character of
children and can interact and form meaningful relationships with the children. Therefore, elite athletes
should focus on just being athletes, and children should just focus on being fans. This supports my
teleological view of the greatest happiness and greater good for the greater

Religion has impacted the world since the beginning of time. For many years, religion controlled how

Racism in America: Are America s police racist or fair?
Since the recent close of year, 2015 experiences has been very important in the national conversation,

caused by the police, on racism. On the other hand there are people who believe the opposite, that

Domestic Violence Is A Serious And Ever Growing Problem
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a serious and ever growing problem that the United States is faced with. Many
people have suffered from domestic violence, and many more are still suffering even though the abuse
ended years ago. Domestic violence victims still continue to suffer from the experience to this day.
The effects of domestic violence creates something that will stick with the victim for a lifetime.
Because victims fear reporting their problems to the police, many accounts of domestic violence goes
unreported (American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, 2001).
Ignorance to the problem of domestic violence will lead to many people becoming unsocial, suicidal,

intimate partners and are comfortable with who they are. People need to be aware of what domestic
violence is and what the effects of an abuser are so they can avoid ever getting into a relationship that

Essay about Equality vs. Athletics
Equality vs. Athletics
In 1929, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a breakthrough for America and
an enormous step towards equal opportunities for women everywhere. Being given the right to vote
created a sense of long awaited and greatly deserved equality with men. Even though women were
given the right to vote, over 70 years ago, the government still has to make a law to ensure that equal
treatment is given. Title IX was instated in 1972 to provide women with the same athletic

Fewer than 30,000 females participated in intercollegiate athletics due to lack of opportunities
provided by colleges. After Title IX was established, women who participated in athletics had an
increased chance for opportunities. Since Title IX was introduced in 1972 female athletic participation
has increased more than 403% since 1971. By 2001 2.8 million females participated in athletics,
which makes up 43% of college varsity athletics. These numbers show an obvious increase in female
athletics and prove that Title IX has helped in the advancement of women s equality (Title IX at

Levey s main argument with Title IX was based on the negative effect of the proportionality rule. His
argument states that in order to comply with the proportionality rule, upper level schools have to
comply with cutting male athletics (Levey 626). However, it has been stated that male athletics, at
both high school and college levels, are continually increasing with the rate of female athletics.

The Power Of The Pack Is Unleashed
In my office I have a picture on the wall of wolfs grouping together into a pack with one clear leader
standing tall in the mist of them. There is a motivational statement on the bottom, of which the final
wording reads by the strength of the leader the power of the pack is unleashed . This concept of the
power of the leader is universal in every business, to include nonprofits. But how is a Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) or Executive Director (ED) to lead in financial matters when they do not possess a

the CEO or ED are strong financial leaders and steps to utilize in executing this financial leadership.
Ensuring Strong Financial Leadership
There are some that will say that true leaders surround themselves with great people. Although that
may be true, when it comes to the financial health of the organization, simply having a trusted Chief
Financial Officer (CFO), financial team, or financial consultant is not enough. A senior executive
without an understanding of finance cannot make use of such information or make financial decisions
to lead the organization well (Crawford, 2010). So what is an organization to do? The easiest, most

Affirmative Action Curbed in California Essay
LOS ANGELES, JUNE 1 California Gov. Pete Wilson (R), vowing to lead a growing conservative
movement to end three decades of racial and gender preferences as an antidote to discrimination,
today signed an executive order abolishing a wide range of affirmative action programs affecting
hiring and contracting in state agencies.
Wilson, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, eliminated or sharply cut back scores
of affirmative action policies or programs that are not mandated by state or federal laws or that exceed
those laws. He also abolished 118 boards and commissions created to advise state agencies on ethnic
and gender diversity issues.
Although he has no direct authority to order policy changes for public ... Show more content on

By itself, it doesn t complete the change we must make. Special preferences remain embedded in state
and federal law. I vow to fight for changes in those laws, quot; Wilson said.
Sean Walsh, the governor s press secretary, said Wilson is the first governor to roll back affirmative
action programs. He said the order would affect all of the state s approximately 150,000 full time job
positions. According to the California State Employees Association, about 60 percent of the state
government work force is white, 16 percent Hispanic, 12 percent black, 6 percent are Asian and the
remaining 6 percent from other groups.
Wilson s action appeared designed to capitalize on public dissatisfaction with minority preference
programs and on a backlash against what is characterized as quot;reverse discrimination, quot; while

nomination, none of whom are sitting governors. It comes a day after senior White House officials
said President Clinton is still weeks or even months away from completing a review he has ordered of
federal affirmative action programs.
Wilson already had announced his support of a proposed 1996 state ballot initiative that would go
further than today s order by abolishing affirmative action in all state hiring, contracting and
university admissions practices. At least six other states

  • 2. Killer Whales Research Paper Ocean giants that have captured the imagination of humans for centuries, whales are among the largest mammals on earth. This diverse group of animals has over 75 separate species, and are considered by scientists to be some of the most intelligent animals on the planet. While modern whales spend their entire lives in water, they are air breathing mammals whose ancestors roamed land millions of years ago. With so many interesting facts about whales, once question can be easily overlooked: Do whales have (teeth)? Whales belong to infraorder Cetacea, which includes two other ocean dwelling mammals: porpoises and dolphins. While all whales are carnivores, that doesn t mean all whales have (teeth). Scientists divide whales into two different parvorders based on this phenomenon: Odontoceti and Mysticeti. Whales that belong to parvorder Odontoceti are also called toothed whales. Toothed whales actively hunt their food and are known to eat a wide variety of animals including sea otters, seals, sharks, squid, and even other whales. Killer whales are the largest member of the dolphin family. All toothed whales, including orcas and dolphins, are born with a mouth full of teeth! The largest species of toothed whale is the sperm whale. Sperm whales have teeth that can weigh as much as a kilogram, but scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a baleen whale finds food, it opens its large mouth and sucks in whatever it plans on eating with large amounts of sea water in one of three ways. Gulp feeders wait until they have a full mouth, then press their tongues against the baleen. The pressure pushes the sea water out, and its food gets caught in the baleen like a giant strainer. Once all the water is removed, the whale swallows its food whole. Skim feeders use a different approach, skimming along the surface of the water with their mouths open to catch zooplankton. Bottom feeders plow along the seabed and use their baleen to filter small invertebrates from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Article Video Games Can... Rhetorical Analysis 1 The critical article Video games can never be art was written by Roger Ebert, who was a famous American film critic. Ebert was a very popular and well celebrated journalist and film critic in his field. He was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, which is the highest honor in journalism (rogerebert.com and Wikipedia). This article is about Roger Ebert s critical analysis of Kellee Santiago, a professional video game designer, presentation about video games as already being a form of art. Roger Ebert is bias towards art given the fact that two of his definitions of what art should be, can be used to explain many of characteristics of video games like the one presented by Santiago. The first definition he presented was one from Wikipedia which states that games are distinct from work which is usually carried out for remuneration and art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has rules, points, objectives, and an outcome. This is only a real difference if you wanted to be bias towards art. For example if I pointed out that the difference between chickens and birds is that people eat chicken eggs and not bird eggs, does that change the fact that chickens are bird? It should not, because the fact would still remain that, they are the same, despite whether people chose to eat bird eggs or chicken eggs. Games may have rules and outcomes, but abstract art, like Picasso s cubism, and 3D art of drawings and paintings, which was discovered during the renaissance, has rules and techniques you must follow to get the outcome you desire. Those rules may not be as visible in art as it is in games, but you can tell they exist because of the outcome difference between a good artist and a bad one. Points, objectives and outcomes are not the difference between art and games just like how humans eat chicken eggs is not the difference between a chicken and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Child Labor And Sweatshops In The United States In the United States, child labor and sweatshops are illegal, and society frowns upon any business that exploits children in the production of goods. Though most would say that they would not support a company that uses child labor to produce its goods, almost everyone has, in fact, knowingly or unknowingly, supported these businesses in one way or another. Children are involved in the production of many of the everyday goods we import from overseas, including the manufacturing of clothes, shoes, toys, and sporting equipment, the farming of cocoa, cotton, sugarcane, and bananas, and the mining of coal, diamonds, and gold (The U.S. Dept. of Labor). There are over 17,000 hospitals in the whole world. In accord with the original meaning of the word, hospitals were originally places of hospitality , and this meaning is still preserved in the names of some institutions such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, established in 1681 as a retirement and nursing home for veteran soldiers. Depending on the kind of services the hospital wants to provide the building facilities must be conducive enough to accommodate the equipment to be used in the providing of those services. This will greatly impact the quality of services provided by the hospital that will help in the acquiring of larger market share and optimize profits. c. The geography and demographic of the hospital s location may plays an important role in market share and profit optimization. The hospital industry is highly regulated and as such is vulnerable to government reimbursement. For this reason, a highly profit hospital will likely have a growing pool of commercially insured patients. So a hospital may rather locate itself in neighborhoods of high income earners because they are the ones who are likely to have both the money and the insurance to pay the medical bills. • 27. Elite Athletes Should Elite Athletes Be Role Models For Children? The idea that when growing up as a child, we lose some illusion in order to obtain new ones tie in with the understanding that children s minds are not matured enough to adequately understand the meaning of a true role model. Children do not understand that athletes are performers and are paid to be performers because that is their job. Professional athletes are not paid to be a role model hence, they are not obligated to live up to the expectations that exceeds beyond performing on the field. According to the National Academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering, and Institution of Medicine (1997), a role model is someone who takes a special interest in helping another person develop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to truly understand the reasons, children must have the knowledge and the representation of knowledge about the subject. But ultimately, children must be able to show the formal manipulation of symbols representing a collection of believed propositions to produce a representation of new ones (Brachman, Levesque, Pagnucco, 2004, p.4). This will allow children to effectively reason beyond the athlete s athletic skills, abilities, and competencies on the playing field. As a of effective reasoning children will be able to define their role models as by morality, honor, citizenship, generativity, meritocratic personality traits, self actualization, and interpersonal qualities (Guest Cox, 2009). Connecting with my view that children cannot interact with athletes on a daily basis and form meaningful relationships creates a barrier preventing children from justifying why athletes should be role models. In order for children to agree that athletes can be role models, they would have to be around them on a daily basic and form a reputable relationship. And since athletes do not form reputable relationships with fans because it is not obligated as part of the athlete s profession, it leaves athletes unqualified to be role models. So athletes are poor choices of role models for children because there are many favorable qualified individuals who can have more direct impact on the character of children and can interact and form meaningful relationships with the children. Therefore, elite athletes should focus on just being athletes, and children should just focus on being fans.
