The Role Of Environmental Problems In The Gulf Of Mexico
With The Gulf of Mexico being the ninth largest body of water in the world, it is obvious that there
may be a few environmental problems. The estuaries of The Gulf of Mexico are being destroyed and
there is no one to point fingers at except ourselves. Estuaries provide humans with many uses and
benefits such as a water supply, trading ports, agricultural support, sport and commercial fisheries, and
even recreational uses for swimming or jet skiing. People from all over the world come to our city of
Pensacola just to enjoy our beautiful gulf that we take for granted and treat horribly. Tourism in the
gulf generates around $20 billion per year, while the waters yield about 1.51 billion pounds of fish and
shellfish in 1996. In 1996, the Gulf of Mexico also contributed 57% of the entire oyster production in
the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the EPA, Texas and Louisiana are ranked first and second in the US for releasing the
most amount of toxic chemicals. With the help of their neighboring states, so many unwanted nutrients
flow into the gulf fertilizer is said to contribute up to 25% of the nutrient input. Nitrogen and
phosphorus are both found in the Gulf of Mexico which could be deadly to both humans and animals.
Too much of these nutrients in the water can result in rapid algae growth, which in turn harms the
water, food, habitats, and even leads to hypoxia. Hypoxia has actually been documented for over
7,000 square miles along the coast of only Louisiana and

Srinivasa Ramanujan was a brilliant, self taught Indian mathematician. It is also the history of the
fruitful cross cultural collaborations between this young, ill educated mathematical genius and his

When he was thirteen, he almost mastered the field of trigonometry. He culd beat any other classmates

Malala Woman
A quote from Father Ronald s interview, from Exclusive: Pink Smoke over the Vatican, shows the
Catholic view on this topic. It s not a rule of social injustice but a rule of understanding one s part in
the church. Male and female are very different ( Exclusive ). The fact that woman can be denied the
right to be ordained simply because of tradition or gender roles show the level of discrimination that
woman face in many religions. This idea of not allowing women to be ordained is not simply found in
the Christian church, but it is also found in some Jewish branches and within Buddhism. Even when
women are allowed to enter leadership or faith positions they often face harder trials then their male
counterparts. Buddhists nuns for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows how the society and its practices correlate with religion. Women throughout the world are
fighting for rights and fighting to be seen as equals to men. This is also being seen throughout many
religions. Women are fighting relentlessly to have the spiritual rights they deserve within their faiths.
One example of this is seen in the story of Malala Yousafzai, who was willing to risk everything to
fight for her rights. Malala is a young Muslim women, who s community was overtaken by the
Taliban. Due to this, many of the women s rights throughout the community were taken away in the
name of religion. Women were forced to be hidden away in their homes and to be subservient to men.
Even education was ripped from their hands because it wasn t seen as necessary for women to become
education in the Taliban s eyes. Malala would not accept this and went against the rules in order to
receive the education she deserved ( Malala Yousafzai ). She was willing to risk everything, including
her life to ensure that she and other women would be educated. Unfortunately, Malala was shot by the
Taliban for her efforts to attend school and learn. She survived, and she is now a role model and
advocate for education and women s rights. One inspiring quote by her is, They do not want women to

Essay On Vertical Integration
Vertical and Horizontal Integration of Health Systems in Various Regions
In the health care system, various integration strategies involve services to improve the delivery of
care. However, these services include a vertical and horizontal integrated health system that will help
organizations increase market share, become more diversified, and achieve cost advantages by using
existing operation to offer new products or services (Shi Singh, 2015).
Vertical Integrated Health Systems
For example, Florida Hospital, who is a member of the Adventist Health System, is a vertically
integrated health care system that first started in 1908 with a small group of Seventh Day Adventists
(Florida Hospital System, 2017). It is known as one of the largest not for profit healthcare
organizations in the country with 22 campuses throughout Florida (Florida Hospital System, 2017).
Florida Hospital has tremendously expanded that it provides various services in cancer, orthopedics,

The Rise of the Surface to Air Missile The Soviet Union s ballistic missiles and long range bombers
became a great threat to the United States of America, after tensions between the two intensified,
following World War II. The US was afraid that the Soviet Union would attack and there would be no
war fighting equipment available to intercept the threat. (Nike, n.d) The North American Air Defense
Command developed the Nike Ajax, which stood as a high altitude defense system. It was the last line
of air defense, which was beneficial because it extended America s level of protection. As time passed,
there was a need for a more powerful, faster and bigger missile. As a result, the US created the new
and improved Nike Hercules missile, which began replacing the Nike Ajax missiles. (Bender, 2004)

How Did Napoleonic War Affect The Economy
Ethan C.S Period 4 History May 16, 2017 The Napoleonic Wars ravaged England and France from
1799 1815. In order to ensure no assistance came to the enemy, Britain and France began to seize
American ships. For example the British warship HMS Leopard attacked the American frigate USS
Chesapeake in a naval engagement off the coast of Virginia. The British Navy was searching for
deserters and attacked the ship, resulting in the American captain surrendering. In a desperate attempt
to save American interests from the grip of the British and French turmoil, Jefferson passed the
Embargo of 1807. This proved to be an imprudent choice with punishing effects on the American
economy that only hastened American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Japanese Embargo in WWII was another embargo passed by the US limiting Japanese assets,
particularly petroleum . This was highly effective and trapped the Japanese military in China, leaving
Japan helpless. The reason this embargo worked was due to the Japanese over reliance on oil, whereas
the Materials the Americans withheld from the British and French were materials the British and
French didn t require. While the US economy suffered little, Japan s amount of petroleum dropped
88%, leaving Japan helpless against the American force. In 1807, Britain and France saw no such drop
in economy, but America, who relied on trade, did. They saw a 78% (From $104,000,000 to
$22,000,000) drop in the trading economy, almost as of Jefferson was waging war on his own citizens

Nazi Experiments
Injections, infections, and freezing temperatures. That isn t even the tip of the iceberg, the Nazis
conducted many experiments on the jews, and many of the experiments we don t know about because
most the records were burned before any of the allied powers knew what they were doing to the
Jewish race. Millions of Jews were killed in gas chambers, but not all of them were killed in such a
quicker way. Many were killed by experiments that were cruel and made them suffer days, weeks, and
maybe months. The experiments, brought much horror, millions of deaths and some helpful things.
The experiments were completely terrible. The women went through some very horrible things. SS
surgeon Karl Gebhardt picked six women to experiment on and sent them to the hospital block. The
woman s legs were shaved and cleaned. The then went to bed not knowing what they were going to

The Importance Of Technological Changes In Education
From the past 20 years, there have been profound changes in education that people ever dreamt of.
Starting from the Abacus which made learning math easier, to word processor that changed the means
of writing and presenting a research paper; from the very beginning technological changes has shaped
education but with the addition of digital changes it has widely increased the speed of transforming.
According to the Global Competitiveness of Factors (2017), in year 2016 2017, the Philippines ranked
83 over 138 countries under the Technological Readiness Pillar. The Technological Readiness pillar
have 7 indicators, three of which are based on opinion survey questions (availability of latest
technologies, firm level technology absorption, and FDI and technology transfer) among CEO
respondents whose observations determine the country s ranking. Thus, technology has almost
influenced every aspect of life today and education is no exception. According to Jayson (2013), both
private and public sectors approve that technological innovations will continue to have major effects
on teaching approaches over the coming years. The walls of the classrooms are indeed no longer a
barrier as technology provides new ways of learning, communicating, and connecting efficiently. As a
result, according to Ayas (2002), new teachers are expected to enter the educational field with
knowledge not only in their content areas, but of technology as well. Visual learning employs the use

Judaism And Surrogacy
When two married adults find themselves in a situation where they would like children, but due to
other circumstances, they are unable to naturally conceive a child themselves. It is in this case when a
couple may choose surrogacy, defined by Merriam Webster dictionaries as the practice by which a
woman (called a surrogate mother) becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby in order to give it to
someone who cannot have children. Naturally, when making a decision regarding surrogacy, the two
adults may choose to look to their religion as a guideline for if surrogacy is morally right. However,
due to various viewpoints on the issue, different religions have different perspectives on the topic. As
a result of the conflicting viewpoints that the Old Testament has about the moral legitimacy of
surrogacy, Judaism tends to believe that surrogacy is moral, whereas Catholicism tends to believe that
the opposite is true.
The Old Testament acknowledges that surrogacy has been important to the continuation of the Jewish
people, due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Church has a fundamental belief that the use of surrogacy is morally illicit and it destroys the duty
of the mother to car and protect her biological child. The Church continues, Surrogate motherhood
represents an objective failure to meet the obligations of maternal love, of conjugal fidelity and of
responsible motherhood; it offends the dignity and the right of the child to be conceived, carried in the
womb, brought into the world and brought up by his own parents; it sets up, to the detriment of
families, a division between the physical, psychological and moral elements which constitute those
families. The Church, unlike other sources, notes how both the dignity of the mother and the dignity
of the child are ruined with the idea of using a surrogate

Essay On Biodegradable Stents
Since the late eighties, stenting has been the primary means of treating stenosed passageways within
the body. This started with self expanding bare metal stents; however, these stents could eventually
lead to restenosis of vessels. In the Gastrointestinal system in particular, these stents tend to migrate
and are difficult to remove at a later date. Though stenting in the GI system with these methods
initially treated the pathologies, they could lead to additional cost and stress to the patient later on.
With the recent development of biodegradable stents, this problem could be eliminated. With the use
of biodegradable materials or biomaterials in stenting, the complications from metal of even plastic
stenting could be eliminated due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This metabolism is facilitated by the body s natural pH of 7 7.4 which is conducive to this process (2).
Biodegradable stents have been used for treatment of refractory benign stenoses including those in the
ureters, urethra, trachea, bile ducts, pancreas, small intestine, colon and esophagus (3). The first
biodegradable stents for the gastrointestinal tract were made from polylactic acid and were developed
by Goldin (4). He tested this stent on several patients to treat esophageal stenoses; however, his
prototypes were unable to maintain sufficient radial force for longer than three weeks and they also
degraded too quickly. Later, advancements were made with a material called polydioxanone, which is
a crystalline, biodegradable polymer with many ester linkages. This type of stent had greater integrity
and retained its radial force for 6 to 8 weeks after placement, and in 11 to 12 weeks, the stents began
to degrade. The degradation speed was also linked to pH; the lower the pH or the more acidic, the
faster the stent fragmented (1).
Biodegradable stents have found great use in treating stenoses of the esophagus and achalasia.
Esophageal stenoses are generally related to gastroesophageal reflux developed after esophageal
surgery or radiation therapy (5). Typically, this is treated with dilators and balloons and in 80% to 90%
of cases it initially works, but 30% to 60% of patients see their stenoses recur (1). In order to keep
their esophagi patent,

The Effects Of Physical Therapy On Health Care Delivery...
A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a situation
from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are available
throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today s issues. Physical therapy
services have a direct connection to prevention programs in that a therapist makes an effort to treat a
condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is an injury or
infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Physical therapists can
provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery system by improving
health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and management of impairments
and health care needs of patients, (Health Care 2). Preventative actions initiate restoration and
achievement of a patient s functional ability, and decreases dependency and impairments due to an
illness or disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at a rapid rate, and educating the patient to
better adapt to surroundings are also services provided. Physical therapy prevention services can be
categorized by being primary, secondary, or tertiary.
Primary prevention can be classified as a physical therapist recognizing potential risk factors in a
given population or age group, and providing therapeutic services to decrease the specific risk from
occurring. Simply put, it stops

Plane Crash Lab Report
During investigating this plane crash, the materials found at the site were: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen,
and oxygen. In order to identify the victims and what happened, I used empirical and molecular
formulas. Empirical formula is a formula with the lowest whole number ratio of elements present in a
compound. Molecular formula indicates the actual number of atoms of each element presented in a
compound. First, I calculated the empirical formula by using the percentages of the compound
analysis for each passenger. I calculated this by turning an element s percentage into a number out of
one hundred and then multiplying it by the molar mass to get the number of mols in each element.
After, I divided all elements by the lowest number in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The chemical analysis of 75.42% carbon, 6.63% hydrogen, 8.38% nitrogen, and 9.57% oxygen leads
to an empirical formula of C21H22N2O2 [see binder paper for work]. C21H22N2O2 has a mass of
334.45 g, which matches with the molar mass of the molecular formula. Base on this similarity and
the description, I can conclude that this substance is Strychnine. Strychnine is a rat poison that is
highly toxic to humans. When looking for the passenger carrying poison, I looked for a person who
shows resentment towards someone else on the plane. Both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez carried
this substance with them and also happen to be enemies. Friends and family from the interview stated
that Selena Gomez is in a long and intense feud with Miley Cyrus. However, according to her Twitter,
Selena knew that Miley would be on the same flight. In addition, she also sent a text message before
the flight saying: I h8 this grl. Its about 2 b over. This text message and the evidences on Twitter

Introduction to Corrections 140
September 25, 2016
Jason Skeens Abstract
More often than not, if John Q. Public is asked the purpose or goals of our American correctional
system the reply is incapacitation, retribution, deterrence, and rehabilitation. However, what we are
really asking for our corrections system to do is to secure and supervise the individuals cast out of
society through the judicial process regardless of their individual needs and abilities. The purpose of
this particular study is focused on the management of special needs inmates and the burdens incurred
at various levels. For this study, special needs populations are defined as prisoners who exhibit unique
physical, mental, social, and programmatic needs that distinguish them from other prisoners and to
whom jail and prison management and staff have to respond in nontraditional and innovative ways
(Schmalleger Smykla 2013). The special needs populations included individuals suffering from mental
illness, drug and alcohol abuse and dependency, the elderly, sufferers of chronic and communicable
diseases, and physical disabilities. Keywords: corrections, special needs offenders, management

deny search and seizures from law enforcement without a warrant. The fourth amendment generally
prohibits police from entering a home without a warrant unless the circumstances fit an established

In the court case United States v. Ludwig the police took a narcotics dog through a parking lot in
hopes that he would find the scent of drugs (www.loompanatics.com). Since a motorized vehicle has
the ability to be driven far away and evidence can be removed, police believe that under certain
circumstances they can search a car without a warrant. A dog alerted the cops by letting them know he
smelled the scent of narcotics. They asked the suspect if they can search his truck. The suspect didn t
give them consent he was against the search but they still took the keys from him to search the truck.
They found drugs in his trunk and a couple of large bags of marijuana. The police didn t have a
warrant nor did they have permission from the suspect to search his truck. The Supreme Court first
ruled that it was unlawful to search his car without a warrant and no legit reasoning for the search.
Then the court ruled that it was lawful because the officers said that the dog alerting them, were their
reasoning for a warrantless search. The cops also stated in court that the reason they took the suspect s
keys is because if they have didn t, there was a possibility that he could drive off and get rid off the
drugs which would be their loss of evidence. This case shows how citizens have certain rights when it
comes to their vehicles but they can still be violated in a sense. The next letter of the acronym is for

Castle Doctrine
Castle Doctrine In Peace Like A River, written by Leif Enger, an argument about castle doctrine is
seen, when Davy shot Finch and Basca through the skulls. The definition of the castle doctrine is that
an individual has no duty to retreat when in his or her home and can use violent force to harm or kill
the intruder (Do Castle Doctrine Laws Impact Violent Crime). Because of Florida publishing the law,
the rest of the US decided to adopt the law. The law, Castle Doctrine, revolutionized the rest of the
U.S, by allowing people rebel against unwanted people in their home or property in respectable or
delinquent ways.
In a myriad of the states, Castle Doctrine is self defense in many instances. One example is when Joe

An example of castle doctrine being manipulated is when Diren Dede, a 17 year old German exchange
student, was fatally shot in the head and arm when he entered the garage of Markus Kaarma asking for
help in Missoula, Mont. , on April 27. Kaarma said it was self defense, but a Montana jury recently
found him guilty of deliberate homicide (Lee, ProPublica Suevon). Additionally in April, 22 year old
Cordell Jude shot and killed Daniel Adkins Jr., a pedestrian who walked in front of Jude s car just as
Jude was pulling up to the window of a Taco Bell drive thru in Arizona. Jude claimed Adkins had
waved his arms in the air, wielding what Jude thought was a metal pipe, but it was actually a dog
leash. As a result, Jude shot the 29 year old Adkins in the chest (Lee, ProPublica Suevon). As a result,
Jude Adkins was arrested for the wrong utilization of castle doctrine (Lee, ProPublica Suevon).
Because of these foolish reasons, the US death rate is twice more than it should be since 2008 (Why
Gun Violence Can t Be Our New Normal). These examples show that castle doctrine can be used for
no reason at all. Consequently, these cases are all located within the United States and relate to the age
range of 15 30 years old. The castle doctrine law should only be used for real matters, such as

Reaction Paper On Deviance
Throughout the semester deviance has been our primary focus of the class, I actually have gotten into
the habit of determining things that I do whether they fall under the spectrum of deviant behavior.
Certain behaviors correlate with certain theories that have been enmeshed into categories. Since many
theories can be grouped together to explain certain behaviors I actually have a few that I am going to
be talking about today. But the main form of deviance that I will be focusing on today is rape.
Emotional numbness, Anxiety, loss of confidence and constant flashbacks are just an array of things
that these young girls will have to deal with for the rest of their lives.
Rape is something that continues to happen not only in the United States, but in every country, and is
continuing to ruin many people s lives. Also there are myths that women and young girls are the main
victims when it comes to rape cases, although there may be many cases that are directed mainly
towards women , men and young boys are also victims. I believe that because it is more common for
women to get raped it s easier in a way to report it as to where if it were a male, he may not want to
report it because he would feel demasculinized, and embarrassed. But what if you lived in a country
where rape is considered normal amongst the villagers because young girls , simply had it coming to
them because for some reason they looked at a man or said thank you to them. Obviously she was

Analysis For the first part of the lab, our goal was to calculate the time constant, , of an RC circuit.
We made an RC series circuit and connected it to the Rigol wave generator to produce a square
waveform for current. Then, we collected data of the voltage across the capacitor at different points in
time using a myDAQ and the 4BL application. In order to find the time constant, we linearized the
voltage we measured across the capacitor and then performed a linear regression on the data. The
equation for the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time is: V_c (t)=V_b (1 e^(( t)/RC) )
where V_c (t) is the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time and V_b is the input voltage. We

that the second method is more accurate. However, in order to better compare the two methods, we
can calculate the percent error from the theoretical value for the resonant frequency. The formula for
percent error is: percent error=| (experimental value accepted value)/(accepted value) | × 100 We get
that the percent error for method 1 is 19.3% and the percent error for method 2 is 1.2%. This affirms
that the method 2 is the more accurate method to measure the resonant frequency. This may be due to
the fact that method 1 involves using estimations by eye, which allows for human error and inaccurate
estimations. The difference between the experimental and theoretical values for the resonant
frequency could also result from faulty equipment, which may not function as the manufacturer claims
or be worn down by natural decay. Lastly using the theoretical value for the RLC circuit and Equation
2, we calculate a Q factor of Q=0.19. This low Q factor indicates that the peak of the curve is not very
sharp and there could have been overdamping, which potentially increases the error in reading the
resonant frequency, especially for the reading by

How Does Elie Wiesel Change Throughout The Book Night
Elie Wiesel: Transformation Throughout Night
Night is a memoir on how surviving the holocaust could change a person3. The book Night, by Elie
Wiesel, involves mostly himself (Elie Wiesel) and his father, and how he survived the holocaust, along
with death camps Auschwitz/Birkenau, Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald. This memoir shows how
Elie manages to survive the holocaust, while in a concentration camp. Surviving the holocaust
changed Elie Wiesel forever. Although Elie Wiesel s experience has affected him, it has had a negative
effect on him. As he says Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the
children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky. (Wiesel 34) This shows that
Eliezer will never forget the troubles, and horrors that he experienced in the concentration camp.
Another thing that Eliezer says is, I shall never forgive them for this. (Wiesel 39) This ... Show more

A trait that was changed from Eliezer is the fact that he now thinks of himself, instead of others.
Hence, when it says in the book, I tried to protect myself from the blows by hiding behind others.
(Night 40) This shows that after Eliezer has been in the concentration camp for a long time, he starts
to let other people be beat, and take shots in order to preserve his own well being. He changed in order
to protect himself from the nazis, and to stop from not surviving. Another thing that Eliezer changed in
order to survive was his protectiveness over his father. When it says in the book, I had made my mind
to accompany my father wherever he went. This helps to show that Eliezer feels more fond of his
father, and he knows that if he dies, his father will die too. Therefore Eliezer accompanies his father
everywhere to stay close to him, and to go on with him in order to keep him alive, and make sure he is

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Cold War Essay
The overview of The U.S. Foreign Policy
The objective of the U.S. foreign policy course is to develop personal ability for applying IR theories
to the U.S. foreign policy. Then, students will be able to understand the direction as well as the
grounds of the U.S. foreign policy. To achieve this objective, I will discuss major the theoretical issues
through the brief history of the U.S. foreign policy until the Cold War. After that, I will examine the
challenges which the U.S. confronts.
One of the theoretical issues in the U.S. foreign policy is the concept of isolationism and
internationalism(or interventionism). To comprehend this concept, we need to figure out the history of
the U.S. foreign policy briefly to find consistency in the flow of the policies. The Monroe Doctrine,
which is famous for the declaration against European Imperialism (Monroe, 1823), was actually not
the first argument of isolationism. As a matter of fact, isolationism began from George Washington s
Farewell Address. (Washington, 1796) Meanwhile, President Woodrow Wilson tried to change the
America s isolationism and to realize his liberalism via his Fourteen Points and the League of the
Nations. (Wilson, 1918) However, his effort failed with the opposition of the parliament and the
interest of World War I s victorious countries.
In 1940s, the U.S. participated and took a significant role in the World War II, and could not hold
isolationism due to the threat of communism and Soviet in Europe.

Examples Of Mary Warren In The Crucible
Miller s use of Mary Warren s refusal to be ordered by her boss, John Proctor, shows how even the
slightest things make people feel powerful. For example Miller writes, MARY WARREN: (with a
stamp of her foot). I ll not be ordered to bed no more, Mr. Proctor! I am eighteen and a woman,
however single! (Act II, pg. 196). At this point, Mary Warren feels important because she is an official
of the court and is now a oman. Therefore, she feels powerful enough to refuse orders from her boss
and attempts to assert her power. Unfortunately she isn t very successful at doing so. Miller also uses
Abigail s accusation of Goody Proctor being a witch to demonstrate how power can go straight to one
s head and cause them to make risky decisions. For example

Phaedra And Theseus
I think that mostly the main characters in Greek tragedies don t deserve what happens to them, as their
fortunes have already been told by the Gods, but for some of their own actions condemned
themselves. Firstly Phaedra s feelings where controlled by a powerful and vengeful God, Phaedra had
no choice in the feelings she felt for Hippolytus, and the God had made them so strong that she could
almost not control them. She had started to starve herself out to protect her name, and the name of her
children. She would rather die and keep her name intact than succumb to her feeling and have her
name be worth less than dirt. Because of this I don t think it s anywhere near fair to say that Phaedra
deserved what had happened to her. However what she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actions might have been because of godly influence, but too much seemed to be because of his hot
headedness. We see him first acting king like, cool and rational. But quickly after he hears that
Phaedra had died he completely loses all control. He becomes very irrational and stubborn. He reads
the note which Phaedra had left, and without even a thought he accuses Hippolytus of the deed and
curses him with a curse that was given to him by Poseidon himself. He does this without a trial where
Hippolytus could defend himself. He barely lets Hippolytus explain to him on how it couldn t have
been him that had raped Phaedra, but Theseus is blind to his arguments. He questions Hippolytus piety
and his celibacy, and dismisses both as massive lies told by his son. Then when all is explained by
Artemis, he is completely surprised, and hugely regrets his actions. Hippolytus forgives him just
before he dies of his wounds done by the curse, but really Theseus is left with a dead son for no real
good reason, and for which mostly he could have changed by not cursing him. On the other hand,
Aphrodite tells us on what was to happen, and could Theseus really have changed the Gods

Essay on Influenza Pandemic Public Health Plan
The purpose of a plan in general is to reduce incidence of adverse effects.
An initial public health plan addresses multi level and multi dimensional concerns. A public health
plan to reduce epidemic incidence of influenza is aimed to reduce morbidity and mortality, provide
continuity of operations and position the state for recovery if attacked by a novel influenza virus that
causes large numbers of illnesses and deaths throughout New Jersey (NJ) (NJDHSS, 2008). In
consideration such a plan necessitates establishing a target population and develop an appropriate
protocol. Immunocompetent and immune compromised individuals are significantly at risk along with

To establish control of influenza pandemic it remains essential to determine the extent of a possible
situation. Only sustained planning, training and exercise of contingency operations across public,
private and volunteer sectors will help to reduce the potential of a catastrophic pandemic disaster

What Are Flashbulb Memories
Throughout our lives, we definitely have gone through a lot of experiences and made memories. Some
of the memories are easily forgotten, while some others are remembered distinctively, vividly and can
be recollected confidently. This is called the flashbulb memory. Flashbulb memory is like a very clear
picture of a particularly impactful event which had caused one to be affected emotionally. For
example, I remember this performance that my school choir was performing. It was during Christmas
season and we decided to spray bubble foam to portray fake snow. However, the plan backfired when
the wind blew at our direction and all the foam flew back to us. This was remembered very clearly
because I was embarrassed and had experienced something so

Justice Penny White of Tennessee, lost her retention...
Justice Penny White of Tennessee, lost her retention election in 1996 after the Tennessee Conservative
Union campaigned against her, saying she was soft on crime and capital punishment. A retention
election is beneficial because it eliminates Justices that feel pity or emotion towards cases and/or
people. Justice White for example ordered a new death sentence hearing for the case of State v. Odom
and was knocked off the bench in a retention election because of her decision. This retention election
process is beneficial because it allows citizens to retain judges who are doing significantly. It also
allows us as citizens to vote off Judges who we think are doing poorly or do not represent us as a
whole. Justice Penny White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implications of a governor targeting this Justice were because she was soft on punishment. The
Republican governor as well as the senators opposed her ( Vile 2003 ). Justice White said that the
Chief Justice wanted to fill her spot with someone in his party (Denver Bar Association). All the signs
of putting someone on death row were there but she preferred not too affirm the death penalty that was
imposed in accordance with the law. In this case of State V. Odom (Vile 2003), the people did not like
the decision in which Justice White made so she lost in a hotly contest in which voted turnout was a
negligible 55 percent. Justice Penny White was not the person the citizen of Tennessee wanted
representing them, when it was time for retention election over half ( 55% ) of the citizen voted her
off. The reason there is penalty for committing a crime is to deter people from committing the same
act again. If you don t be hard on crime then the crime rate will continue to be on the rise . The citizen
wanted someone to represent on behalf of themselves and Justice Penny White was not that person.

American Cotton Industry
It is said that history may not repeat itself but it does rhyme. This old adage bears special importance
as it pertains to America s history in trade policy. In both Charles Harley s, International
Competitiveness of the Antebellum American Cotton Textile Industry, and Robert Feenstra s, How
Costly is Protectionism? we see this connection as the two authors analyze how protectionist policies
can be applied to certain situations and more importantly how these policies may transcend across
time. Given the Trump administration s current stance on protectionist policies in international trade, it
is critical to understand the lessons which history presents and apply them accordingly. As President

Feenstra talks about the implications of imposing trade deals or tariffs that could negatively affect a
partner and how that could alter relationships against the interest of America. Moreover, he discusses
the fact that increased isolationism from the free trade world could impede on the development of
countries who export goods to the United States as they attempt to grow and stabilize their developing
economies. Feenstra quotes a study from 2009 saying, developing countries lose $8 billion from the
quotas and tariffs applied to textiles by the industrial countries increasing foreign deadweight loss,
which again decreases overall world economy efficiency (Feenstra 167). The American economy is
greatly involved and vital to the world economy in this 21st century environment and the world
economy, and especially developing nations, would be greatly hindered by American retreatment from
the world stage. The Antebellum strategy used for the cotton industry in the 19th century is not

Analysis Of Elisheva Baumgarten s Mothers And Children...
Elisheva Baumgarten s work stands as a model for students and scholars alike in its comprehensive
review of little known writings and other sources from medieval Ashkenazi Jews as well as in its
meticulous analysis of the often ambiguous writings. In Mothers and Children, Baumgarten examines
a plethora of primary sources to explore the inner dynamics of Jewish families; she then uses this
information to draw objective conclusions about the relationship between the Jewish and Christian
communities in the middle ages. In Baumgarten s own words, The premise of this study is that it is
impossible to comprehend the history of medieval Jews without an in depth understanding of the
society in which they lived (p.7). As the name of the book implies, she focuses on the relationship
between Jewish mothers and children as well as their Christian counterparts; she chose women and
children for two reasons: first, because there has been less research done on them than on men, and
second, because women as a group had more frequent and more intimate contact with neighboring
Christian communities (Baumgarten thoroughly explores why this is). Thus, women are better
subjects as it relates to the relationship between Jewish and Christian societies. She then uses this
information as a metaphoric keyhole through which she can examine their society as a whole.
Baumgarten divides the book into five chapters: Birth, Circumcision and Baptism, Additional Birth
Rituals, Maternal Nursing and Wet

Referent Power in Leadership
Referent Power
I. Topic of Inquiry
It is important for managers to understand the sources of power and influence as they must rely upon
the cooperation of subordinates in order to be successful. Strong managers rely upon more than just
authority they also use leadership skills and power to obtain the most productivity from their staff.
According to French and Raven (1959) there are five sources of power. Referent power seems to be
the most influential and the least affected by change. To quote Paul Argenti,
Coercive power relies on the fact that people fear you, and reward power is only effective so long as
people value the rewards you have to offer. Legitimate power relies on your rank in the company
hierarchy, and recent events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.) Nurturing. Another component of developing referent leadership is nurturing. According to
Thompson (1996) a referent leader takes an interest in the feelings of other people and exhibits
concern for them. They know the aspirations, fears, capabilities, and attitudes (Henderson Moskos,
1985, p. 112) of others and they help people feel capable and good about themselves (DuBrin, 1995).
These traits help to create friendship and over a longer period of time loyalty.
4.) Being a good role model / Being trustworthy. In order to have people drawn to you it is important
that they respect you. Being a good role model, being truthful and being trustworthy will reinforce that
respect.
How is it used?
Referent power can be used to influence opinion because it can create conscious or unconscious
acceptance of the agent s opinion with little or no question. It can also be used to influence behaviors.
As stated by Locke (2003) When identification is strong, imitation [of the agent s behavior] is likely to
occur even without any conscious effort (p. 247) to influence. And the target person may not be
consciously aware that they are emulating the agent. The stronger the identification or admiration the
more powerful influence can be. This was expressed well by Locke (2003) People are usually willing
to do special favors for a friend, and they are more likely

Coming Of Age In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
During the lectures and readings that we have done on coming of age, I have learned that coming of
age is a lot like a milestone in life. It happens when we mature or become more knowledgeable and it
can happen no matter what age we are. The story, Boys and Girls , by Alice Munro, shows us the
perfect example of coming of age and is also a story that left a lasting impression on me because of it
feminist aspect of a girl s life. Coming of age is our minds and bodies evolving into a more mature

Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it wasn t

The Roles Of Children In Ancient Greece
The portrayal of children in Ancient Greece changed from the Archaic period (610 480 BC) to their
portrayal in the Hellenistic age (323 31 BC). Through art, scholars can piece together the status and
roles of children, including how their lives were different in various city states.
Art became became more personal and more detailed during the Hellenistic age; for example, the
portrayal of children during this time depicted their physical and mental state often a playful scene
free from the worry and stress that weigh down adults; while during the Archaic period, artist tended
to depict children as adults that were simply smaller in size.

Analysis of the Relevancy of Freudian Psychology When one unintentionally says something that
reveals their thoughts, this is known as a
Freudian Slip. When one is being uptight and hostile, they are said to be acting anal. If one witnesses
something embarrassing, they claim they hope to repress the memory. If one is a moody, maladaptive
worrywart, they are said to be neurotic. All of these common colloquial terms go back to a 19th 20th
century psychologist named Sigmund Freud. Freud published a myriad of theories regarding the
human mind and its inner workings, which have since fallen from practice. A great majority of his
theories have been disproven and rendered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this work, Freud had written the beginnings of his extensive theories on the human psyche and
what goes on in the subconscious mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). Freud s most
credible work is that of the unconscious mind. He proposed that there are three levels of the mind s
consciousness: the Conscious, Preconscious/Subconscious, and the
Unconscious (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Conscious is the waking mind in which
real time thought processes that one is aware of are occurring (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund
Freud s Theories ). The Preconscious or Subconscious is the waking mind from which memories can
be called; it functions as storage and one is not necessarily aware of its processes (McLeod,
Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Unconscious is the deepest level of the mind that one is
unaware of; it supposedly harbors strong desires and suppressed experiences that unknowingly
influence the waking mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). All three of these come
together to form the person to which they belong, and both influence and are influenced by the
Ego, Superego, and ID (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Ego, Superego, and ID are
three pieces of the mind that determine one s moral capacity, thoughts, and actions (McLeod, Saul,
Sigmund Freud s Theories ).

Animal Farm Or Ussr Part II
Cliffy Smith James Hensley Pre IB LA 10 10 April 2015 Animal Farm or USSR Part II Animal Farm
written by George Orwell is a hopeful novel about a group of animals that overthrow their farmer and
create an animalistic government. Much like All the King s Men a novel by Robert Penn Warren,
Animal Farm has strong political undertones relating to the the skewed government of Soviet Russia.
Throughout the book many animal characters can be identified with the political leaders and
influences throughout Soviet Russia. According to New World Encyclopedia, New Historicism is an
approach to literary criticism and literary theory based on the premise that a literary work should be
considered a product of the time, place, and historical circumstances of its composition rather than as
an isolated work of art or text. Animal Farm and it s direct correlation with the USSR connects New
Historicism and the impactful writing of Orwell with fluidity and ease. New Historicism is a criticism
developed in the 1980 s by a Harvard English professor named Stephen Greenblatt. This criticism
takes a look at every aspect of the story including the author s political and emotional bias. It was used
to bring outside information and cultural context into the book and create a deeper meaning for the
reader. New Historicism gained widespread influence in the 90 s through its new way for reading and
analyzing a story. Judith Newton explains New Historicism as a criticism that aims to subject the

Billy Collins Poetry Analysis
My analysis is on introduction to poetry by Billy Collins. Collins relays the message that readers
should be patient and open minded when reading poems in order to see the meaning. Poetry is
something to experience by going inside of it. There is a heavy use of metaphors in this poem. The
first line, I ask them to take a poem and hold it up to the light like a color slide resembles that
sometimes you have to look at something in a different way or in a different light in order to see the
variations. Collins is asking the reader to look at the poem in a different way, not the way you would
typically read something. I also interpret the color slide as not just a brightly colored picture, but also
an image shown on a screen that makes you ask the questions what are they doing? Where are they?
And what s going on in the picture? By referencing an image on the slide it also references something
that holds image, and holds information that can appear dark or ... Show more content on

It makes the reader experience the sound or energy of the poem such as danger, anticipation, or
excitement. The part of the poem that says I say drop a mouse into a poem and watch him probe his
way out has great interpretation because sometimes it a poem you can get lost in all the different
meanings. Collins wants you to get inside of the poem and really explore it. This also gives a clear
image of a mouse in a maze working through our problem of how to get out. It s not a straight shot
from the beginning of a poem to the end, it is an intricate maze. When the poem reads or walk inside
the poem s room and feel the walls for a light switch is in reference to when you are in the dark about
what the meaning is and you want the light of understanding to be turned on. It s as if Collins is asking
us to find the place in the poems that makes the light bulb come

A Failing Alternator
With so many moving parts, it isn t always easy to tell exactly what s wrong with your vehicle. One of
the most common causes of a breakdown, however, is a failing alternator. The alternator is the most
important part of a vehicle s electrical system, and when it malfunctions, it leads to a domino effect of
problems. As a Del Kalb, TX auto shop with years of experience in automotive electric repair,
Eubanks Auto Electric specializes in alternator repair, maintenance, and replacement. Here are three
ways to tell your alternator is on its way out. The Indicator Light: It s easy to ignore those bothersome
little lights that pop up on your dashboard every now and then, but if your alternator warning light
appears, you need to take it seriously.

Patrick Bateman Research Paper
I have all the characteristics of a human being... but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for
greed and disgust...I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip
(Easton Ellis 23). Patrick Bateman said this quote about himself in the book American Psycho by Brett
Easton Ellis. In the novel American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is an unfathomably rich, fashionable and
meticulous man that works on Wall Street. ☺ He is very approachable, gets all of the attractive
women but he also bears secrets. Patrick Bateman is an avid cocaine user, chronic club goer and he
also murders anything that breathes while he is on his blood lust. Not only does he kill people, but he
also eats his victims as well. I can predict that Bateman will eventually be incarcerated, I can connect
with Batemans desire for nice items, and I also can visualize the killing of every single person that he
comes in contact with. ☺ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patrick Bateman will be arrested due to his passion for murder. Patrick murders people on the street
simply if they annoy him. In one scene, Patrick murders a homeless man for repeating himself, Jeez,
you re like a broken record. My impatience is rising (Easton Ellis 124). After saying that, Patrick
killed the homeless man and his dog in the middle of the street. He left their bodies there and
continued walking home. By committing this injustice, Bateman could easily have been seen by a
different pedestrian. Furthermore, if his need to kill continues to be prominent in public, police will
catch him in the

Judaism And Surrogacy When two married adults find themselves in a situation where they would like children, but due to other circumstances, they are unable to naturally conceive a child themselves. It is in this case when a couple may choose surrogacy, defined by Merriam Webster dictionaries as the practice by which a woman (called a surrogate mother) becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby in order to give it to someone who cannot have children. Naturally, when making a decision regarding surrogacy, the two adults may choose to look to their religion as a guideline for if surrogacy is morally right. However, due to various viewpoints on the issue, different religions have different perspectives on the topic. As a result of the conflicting viewpoints that the Old Testament has about the moral legitimacy of surrogacy, Judaism tends to believe that surrogacy is moral, whereas Catholicism tends to believe that the opposite is true. Biodegradable stents have been used for treatment of refractory benign stenoses including those in the ureters, urethra, trachea, bile ducts, pancreas, small intestine, colon and esophagus (3). The first biodegradable stents for the gastrointestinal tract were made from polylactic acid and were developed by Goldin (4). He tested this stent on several patients to treat esophageal stenoses; however, his prototypes were unable to maintain sufficient radial force for longer than three weeks and they also degraded too quickly. Later, advancements were made with a material called polydioxanone, which is a crystalline, biodegradable polymer with many ester linkages. This type of stent had greater integrity and retained its radial force for 6 to 8 weeks after placement, and in 11 to 12 weeks, the stents began to degrade. The degradation speed was also linked to pH; the lower the pH or the more acidic, the faster the stent fragmented (1). Biodegradable stents have found great use in treating stenoses of the esophagus and achalasia. Esophageal stenoses are generally related to gastroesophageal reflux developed after esophageal surgery or radiation therapy (5). A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a situation from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are available throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today s issues. Physical therapy services have a direct connection to prevention programs in that a therapist makes an effort to treat a condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is an injury or infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Physical therapists can provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery system by improving health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and management of impairments and health care needs of patients, (Health Care 2). Preventative actions initiate restoration and achievement of a patient s functional ability, and decreases dependency and impairments due to an illness or disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at a rapid rate, and educating the patient to better adapt to surroundings are also services provided. Physical therapy prevention services can be categorized by being primary, secondary, or tertiary. Molecular formula indicates the actual number of atoms of each element presented in a compound. First, I calculated the empirical formula by using the percentages of the compound analysis for each passenger. Management Concerns in Corrections for Special Populations Michelle Bergos Introduction to Corrections 140 September 25, 2016 Jason Skeens Abstract More often than not, if John Q. Public is asked the purpose or goals of our American correctional system the reply is incapacitation, retribution, deterrence, and rehabilitation. However, what we are really asking for our corrections system to do is to secure and supervise the individuals cast out of society through the judicial process regardless of their individual needs and abilities. The purpose of this particular study is focused on the management of special needs inmates and the burdens incurred at various levels. For this study, special needs populations are defined as prisoners who exhibit unique physical, mental, social, and programmatic needs that distinguish them from other prisoners and to whom jail and prison management and staff have to respond in nontraditional and innovative ways (Schmalleger Smykla 2013). The special needs populations included individuals suffering from mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse and dependency, the elderly, sufferers of chronic and communicable diseases, and physical disabilities. A dog alerted the cops by letting them know he smelled the scent of narcotics. They asked the suspect if they can search his truck. The police didn t have a warrant nor did they have permission from the suspect to search his truck. The Supreme Court first ruled that it was unlawful to search his car without a warrant and no legit reasoning for the search. Then the court ruled that it was lawful because the officers said that the dog alerting them, were their reasoning for a warrantless search. The cops also stated in court that the reason they took the suspect s keys is because if they have didn t, there was a possibility that he could drive off and get rid off the drugs which would be their loss of evidence. The equation for the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time is: V_c (t)=V_b (1 e^(( t)/RC) ) where V_c (t) is the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time and V_b is the input voltage. We then linearize the data by manipulating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the values for resonance frequency we got from both methods, at first glance it appears that the second method is more accurate. However, in order to better compare the two methods, we can calculate the percent error from the theoretical value for the resonant frequency. The formula for percent error is: percent error=| (experimental value accepted value)/(accepted value) | × 100 We get that the percent error for method 1 is 19.3% and the percent error for method 2 is 1.2%. This affirms that the method 2 is the more accurate method to measure the resonant frequency. This may be due to the fact that method 1 involves using estimations by eye, which allows for human error and inaccurate estimations. The difference between the experimental and theoretical values for the resonant frequency could also result from faulty equipment, which may not function as the manufacturer claims or be worn down by natural decay. Lastly using the theoretical value for the RLC circuit and Equation 2, we calculate a Q factor of Q=0.19. This low Q factor indicates that the peak of the curve is not very sharp and there could have been overdamping, which potentially increases the error in reading the resonant frequency, especially for the reading by ... The book Night, by Elie Wiesel, involves mostly himself (Elie Wiesel) and his father, and how he survived the holocaust, along with death camps Auschwitz/Birkenau, Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald. This memoir shows how Elie manages to survive the holocaust, while in a concentration camp. Surviving the holocaust changed Elie Wiesel forever. Foreign Policy During The Cold War Essay The overview of The U.S. Foreign Policy The objective of the U.S. foreign policy course is to develop personal ability for applying IR theories to the U.S. foreign policy. Then, students will be able to understand the direction as well as the grounds of the U.S. foreign policy. To achieve this objective, I will discuss major the theoretical issues through the brief history of the U.S. foreign policy until the Cold War. After that, I will examine the challenges which the U.S. confronts. One of the theoretical issues in the U.S. foreign policy is the concept of isolationism and internationalism(or interventionism). To comprehend this concept, we need to figure out the history of the U.S. foreign policy briefly to find consistency in the flow of the policies. The Monroe Doctrine, which is famous for the declaration against European Imperialism (Monroe, 1823), was actually not the first argument of isolationism. As a matter of fact, isolationism began from George Washington s Farewell Address. (Washington, 1796) Meanwhile, President Woodrow Wilson tried to change the America s isolationism and to realize his liberalism via his Fourteen Points and the League of the Nations. (Wilson, 1918) However, his effort failed with the opposition of the parliament and the interest of World War I s victorious countries. In 1940s, the U.S. participated and took a significant role in the World War II, and could not hold isolationism due to the threat of communism and Soviet in Europe. ... Phaedra And Theseus I think that mostly the main characters in Greek tragedies don t deserve what happens to them, as their fortunes have already been told by the Gods, but for some of their own actions condemned themselves. Elisheva Baumgarten s work stands as a model for students and scholars alike in its comprehensive review of little known writings and other sources from medieval Ashkenazi Jews as well as in its meticulous analysis of the often ambiguous writings. In Mothers and Children, Baumgarten examines a plethora of primary sources to explore the inner dynamics of Jewish families; she then uses this information to draw objective conclusions about the relationship between the Jewish and Christian communities in the middle ages. In Baumgarten s own words, The premise of this study is that it is impossible to comprehend the history of medieval Jews without an in depth understanding of the society in which they lived (p.7). As the name of the book implies, she focuses on the relationship between Jewish mothers and children as well as their Christian counterparts; she chose women and children for two reasons: first, because there has been less research done on them than on men, and second, because women as a group had more frequent and more intimate contact with neighboring Christian communities (Baumgarten thoroughly explores why this is). Thus, women are better subjects as it relates to the relationship between Jewish and Christian societies. She then uses this information as a metaphoric keyhole through which she can examine their society as a whole. Within this work, Freud had written the beginnings of his extensive theories on the human psyche and what goes on in the subconscious mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). Freud s most credible work is that of the unconscious mind. He proposed that there are three levels of the mind s consciousness: the Conscious, Preconscious/Subconscious, and the Unconscious (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Conscious is the waking mind in which real time thought processes that one is aware of are occurring (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Preconscious or Subconscious is the waking mind from which memories can be called; it functions as storage and one is not necessarily aware of its processes (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Unconscious is the deepest level of the mind that one is unaware of; it supposedly harbors strong desires and suppressed experiences that unknowingly influence the waking mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). All three of these come together to form the person to which they belong, and both influence and are influenced by the Ego, Superego, and ID (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Ego, Superego, and ID are three pieces of the mind that determine one s moral capacity, thoughts, and actions (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Animal Farm Or Ussr Part II Cliffy Smith James Hensley Pre IB LA 10 10 April 2015 Animal Farm or USSR Part II Animal Farm written by George Orwell is a hopeful novel about a group of animals that overthrow their farmer and create an animalistic government. Much like All the King s Men a novel by Robert Penn Warren, Animal Farm has strong political undertones relating to the the skewed government of Soviet Russia. Throughout the book many animal characters can be identified with the political leaders and influences throughout Soviet Russia. According to New World Encyclopedia, New Historicism is an approach to literary criticism and literary theory based on the premise that a literary work should be considered a product of the time, place, and historical circumstances of its composition rather than as an isolated work of art or text. Animal Farm and it s direct correlation with the USSR connects New Historicism and the impactful writing of Orwell with fluidity and ease. New Historicism is a criticism developed in the 1980 s by a Harvard English professor named Stephen Greenblatt. This criticism takes a look at every aspect of the story including the author s political and emotional bias. It was used to bring outside information and cultural context into the book and create a deeper meaning for the reader. New Historicism gained widespread influence in the 90 s through its new way for reading and analyzing a story. Judith Newton explains New Historicism as a criticism that aims to subject the ... • 46. Billy Collins Poetry Analysis My analysis is on introduction to poetry by Billy Collins. Collins relays the message that readers should be patient and open minded when reading poems in order to see the meaning. Poetry is something to experience by going inside of it. There is a heavy use of metaphors in this poem. The first line, I ask them to take a poem and hold it up to the light like a color slide resembles that sometimes you have to look at something in a different way or in a different light in order to see the variations. Collins is asking the reader to look at the poem in a different way, not the way you would typically read something. I also interpret the color slide as not just a brightly colored picture, but also an image shown on a screen that makes you ask the questions what are they doing? Where are they? And what s going on in the picture? By referencing an image on the slide it also references something that holds image, and holds information that can appear dark or ... The part of the poem that says I say drop a mouse into a poem and watch him probe his way out has great interpretation because sometimes it a poem you can get lost in all the different meanings. Collins wants you to get inside of the poem and really explore it. This also gives a clear image of a mouse in a maze working through our problem of how to get out. It s not a straight shot from the beginning of a poem to the end, it is an intricate maze. When the poem reads or walk inside the poem s room and feel the walls for a light switch is in reference to when you are in the dark about what the meaning is and you want the light of understanding to be turned on. It s as if Collins is asking us to find the place in the poems that makes the light bulb come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Patrick Bateman Research Paper I have all the characteristics of a human being... but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust...I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip (Easton Ellis 23). Patrick Bateman said this quote about himself in the book American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis. In the novel American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is an unfathomably rich, fashionable and meticulous man that works on Wall Street. ☺ He is very approachable, gets all of the attractive women but he also bears secrets. Patrick Bateman is an avid cocaine user, chronic club goer and he also murders anything that breathes while he is on his blood lust. Not only does he kill people, but he also eats his victims as well. I can predict that Bateman will eventually be incarcerated, I can connect with Batemans desire for nice items, and I also can visualize the killing of every single person that he comes in contact with. ☺ ... After saying that, Patrick killed the homeless man and his dog in the middle of the street. He left their bodies there and continued walking home. By committing this injustice, Bateman could easily have been seen by a different pedestrian. Furthermore, if his need to kill continues to be prominent in public, police will catch him in the ...
