2. Ben Carson Research Paper
Everyone knows him by Gifted Hands , but how did he become known? What did he contribute to our
world that makes him memorable? Ben Carson, being a poor student with a brilliant mentality earned
fame for groundbreakingly separating conjoined twins. Carson has been through rough areas where he
became so outraged, he almost stabbed a classmate, but where has that led him now?
With his father not present, Carson was raised by their mother, who worked two or three jobs at a
once, usually as a family servant. Since they were poor, all relied on food stamps and other
government assistance. Ben Carson had a very bad temper, in his book Gifted Hands , with a hammer,
he tried to hit his mother on the head only over a clothing disagreement. Around ninth grade, he
attempted to stab a friend, only because he changed the station on the radio. Luckley, the blade hit the
classmates belt buckle and did not actually touch the student. The only answer that came to mind was
God. He ran to his home after knowing what he did, locked himself in the bathroom with a bible.
Cried and pleaded. Ben did not have the greatest childhood, but over all led him to where he is now. ...

Ben Carson In 1987, Ben became the first neurosurgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins

3. Advantages Of Direct Democracy
Direct Democracy There is a lot of controversy over which government is the best, and honestly I don
t think there really is a best form of government but I believe there that some are better than others.
Direct Democracy definitely has its flaws, it is the best option open to us at this time. It gives the
people the power to get what they want. America is already a form of Democracy, it s a Representative
Democracy. So direct Democracy is not too far fetched.
Direct democracy, also known as pure democracy, is where the people vote to on or form consensus
on policy initiatives directly. The word democracy literally means rule by the people . The United
States today is a representative democracy. Which is a democracy in which the people ... Show more

From 1995 to 2005 swiss citizens voted over 30 different times, while the french citizens only voted
twice. In direct democracies the citizens have most of the power.
We want rights, freedom, and equality. But we also need some sort of structure. As people we need a
say in how we live our lives but we cannot just do as we please. We can t have the government gaining
too much power but we need to still be controlled. Harmony in all aspects is what we are sought after,
we want and need a balance. Direct democracy is a way to get citizens involved and united. It helps
keep the government transparent, you cannot make promises to the people and then not keep them
because you run the risk of the people removing you from power. It holds everyone accountable, the
officials to do what they promised and to fix the problems within society and the people to keep their
government going in the right direction. The individual is foolish, the species is wise. (Burke).
Together we are better. There are also some pros to having a direct democracy, when the people want
to see change, they appeal and they vote. Which would truly be a government for the people, by the
people , protecting our interests. There is a checks and balances system that makes sure the power gets
distributed. Democracy also promotes equality, allows for change, doesn t put too much power in the

4. Freely Controlled Reaction Time
Introduction: As many states have implemented laws against distracting driving, I was interested to
see how a person s reaction time differed when they were concentrating to when they were distracted.
I predicted a person s mean reaction time would increase when they were distracted, compared to their
concentrating reaction time. Methods: The study was conducted on a Thursday morning from 10:00
am until 11:30 am in a Rigge Science lab. Fifty Creighton juniors and seniors worked in pairs and
used a 30 cm ruler to measure each other s reaction times. One partner held the ruler while the other,
the subject, placed their thumb and index finger at the 0 cm dash on the ruler. The first partner
dropped the ruler without any warning and measured, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To test for normality, I ran a Shapiro Wilk test on the differences between the means. To achieve
normality, I had to transform the data by square rooting the means (W = 0.95565, p value = 0.05848).
Then I ran the paired t test on the transformed means and got a significant result (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p
value = 0.006019). I graphed the original data to show the mean concentrating reaction time is smaller
than the mean distracted reaction time (Figure 1). Figure 1: Mean concentrating reaction times and
mean distracted reaction times of 50 Creighton University students. The mean for each condition is
shown with a black X. The differences were deemed significant by the paired t test (t = 2.8715, df =
49, p value = 0.0060). Conclusion: This study investigated if there was a difference in reaction when
the students were concentrating compared to when the students were distracted. The raw data showed
a difference in mean reactions time between the two conditions and a paired t test deemed the
differences significant (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p value = 0.0060). The null hypothesis is rejected and the
mean difference between concentrating and distracted reaction times is not zero. The mean
concentrated reaction times are smaller than the distracted reaction times. Each person could react
quicker when they were concentration compared to when they

Roe v. Wade (1973): Second Draft Norma McCorvey was a young woman who had dropped out of
high school, divorced from her husband, and was raising her five year old daughter with very little
money. She tried to obtain an abortion but was unable to under Texas law in 1969. At the time, Texas
did not allow women to have abortions unless the mother s life was in danger. McCorvey had no
choice but to carry the baby full term and give up the baby she wanted to abort. Her lawyer also
introduced her to two recent graduates of the University of Texas Law School, Sarah Weddington and
Linda Coffee. The three women decided to challenge the constitutionality of Texas s law and
McCorvey became Jane Roe in a test case against Henry Wade, the criminal district attorney for
Dallas County, Texas. Wade appealed to the Supreme Court the decision of a three judge federal
district court striking down Texas s law. Justice Blackmun finally handed down the Court s opinion on
January 23, 1973. The Court s decision was seven to two, and the majority s opinion was announced
by Justice Blackmun. Chief Justice Burger and Justices Douglas and Stewart concurred; Justices
Rehnquist and White dissented. Justice Blackmun delivered the opinion of the Court by saying, The

Six Thinking Hats is a critical and creative thinking training course from Edward de Bono that helps

Six Thinking Hats is a flexible and easy to use thinking process that leads to amazing results with
innovative thinking, improved communication, and reduced meeting time.
In traditional thinking we constantly find ourselves in conflict. Each side seeks to criticize the other
point of view. The Six Thinking Hats method, however, encourages Parallel Thinking, where everyone

Today s Internet companies such as Facebook, Amazon and Google collect and analyze vast volumes
of data in real time to trigger advertising to their users pages. Today, many big data environments are
using Hadoop as the distributed storage and distributed processing of large datasets using clusters of
commodity hardware. These solutions can scale out from a single server to thousands of servers. Big
Data is changing the way business decisions are made. It is no longer a passing fad and if companies
are not extracting insights from the data collected, they will be left behind by their competition.
Supporting Big Data Projects Big data requires clusters of servers to support the many software tools
needed to process and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data. Consequently, IT
organizations are looking to private cloud computing as the IT architecture to support big data
projects. Cloud computing services are available in three business models public, private or hybrid. In
the public cloud model, services are delivered over the Internet and sold on demand. Public cloud
provides the ability to scale on demand, offering users tremendous flexibility and agility. Private cloud
services are delivered from the enterprise s data center to internal users. This model offers enterprises
versatility, and unlike public cloud, the enterprise s

Good digestion is the foundation of good health; for instance, one could theoretically eat a perfect diet
and take a multivitamin, but if these nutrients aren t optimally absorbed all that s left is wasted time.
The stomach isn t just one giant food processor and storage system, when you really think about it, the
stomach is also the barrier between the outside world and your internal physiology.
Digestive disorders, treatments, causes, etc. is an expansive topic. For the sake of time, I am going to
focus primarily on treating an increasingly common condition called leaky gut syndrome , as it can
lead to many serious complications down the road. The strategies you ll use to help fight this, will also
serve to increase your body s digestive capacity. Simply put, we need to remove this roadblock to
ensure optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients. Leaky gut syndrome is a condition where
damaged bowel lining leads to increased permeability of the gut wall to substances that shouldn t be
going into your blood or interstitial areas. Certain things like bad bacteria, and foreign invaders do not
get blocked from being absorbed through your intestinal membrane, and things that should get
absorbed don t. I also want to emphasize that leaky gut is common in irritable bowel diseases such as
celiac disease, crohn s disease, allergies, and many other things. This is why I want to focus so much
on this aspect.
So what are the symptoms? Diarrhea, chronic joint pain, chronic

Jesus as a Figure in History: a Wealth of Information for Those Already Informed
Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the legacies of few
people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and changed as many individual s lives, as
Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one central
question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame death and sin,
offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To others, He was
merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of the Common Era. And

In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today. Those who lived
alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much with what
was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived
posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as
dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories.
But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity
of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time,
various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works,
presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected
historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects.
Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of
Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed
everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... [and] exclude material in the
Gospels that did not fit with this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes a

10. The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their presence
intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This situation would be primarily due to their body
language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication
revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be seen in
the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as
Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils difficult
demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and seemingly
loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda.
This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the
end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others/body
movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions
Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others
After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her
hair/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets
more confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy
walks into the office very confidently and

inability of the environment to support the existing population of human or other living things.
Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds

One of these has been the ability to save lives and create better medical treatment for all. A direct
result of this has been increased lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so year,
the growth of population has boomed and has turned into overpopulation. Every corner of India is a
clear display of increasing population. Whether we are in a metro station, airport, railway station,
road, highway, bus stop, hospital, shopping mall, market, temple, or even in a social/ religious
gathering, we see all these places are overcrowded at any time of the day. This is a clear indication of
overpopulation in the country. Overpopulation is a function of the number of individuals compared to
the relevant resources, such as the water and essential nutrients they need to survive. It can result from
an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or an unsustainable

There are indeed two stories in Genesis on how we and the world came about. The first story starts at
Genesis 1:1 and go through Genesis 2:3; the second story picks up at Genesis 2:4 and goes through the

one day the sixth day, the man is created first, then all the plants and animals are created, and finally

In the first chapter of Genesis it presents the creation of man on the sixth day as the final point of
creation. Then, in the second chapter, the author gives a lot more detail regarding the creation of man.
People tend to claim contradictions between Genesis chapters 1 2. The first is in regard to plant life.
Genesis 1:11 records God creating vegetation on the third day. Genesis 2:5 states that prior to the
creation of man no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet
sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground.
So, which is it? Did God create vegetation on the third day before He created man (Genesis 1), or after
He created man (Genesis 2)? The Hebrew words for vegetation are different in the two passages.
Genesis 1:11 uses a term that refers to vegetation in general. Genesis 2:5 uses a more specific term
that refers to vegetation that requires agriculture, as in a person to tend to it, a gardener. The passages
do not contradict. Genesis 1:11 speaks of God creating vegetation, and Genesis 2:5 speaks of God not
causing farmable vegetation to grow until after He created man. It s easily misinterpreted in

Child Poverty in the United States
In the United States, about 24 million children live in poverty (Ingraham). Poverty is a big issue and
has been for a while. It can affect children now and when they become adults. There are children
going to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal is coming from, but Compassion is a
Christian organization working to stop child poverty around the world.
First, the United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but also has one of the highest
poverty rates. The national median income is about $31,000 a year for a family of four and 22 percent
of children live in families whose income is below the national poverty level (Ingraham). One in three
children are living in poverty today (Ingraham). Next, poverty rates are increasing rapidly. Since 2008,
the United States poverty rate has increased, but during the same time, 18 countries reduced their
poverty rates (Ingraham). Between 2006 and 2011, the child poverty rate increased in 34 states,
mainly in Nevada, Idaho, Hawaii, and New Mexico (Ingraham).
Second, poverty also has an effect on students. There are more than half of public school students
living in poverty and most students who live in poverty drop out of school and do not graduate or go
to college (Kasperkevic). Some children actually think it is their fault that their families are homeless

18. Nietzsche s Contradictory Concept Of Freedom
The concept of freedom is contradictory in the Genealogy of Morals: for Nietzsche, true freedom will
occur when every individual can live according to their true nature; however, this version of freedom
would allow the strong to easily enslave the weak, negating any possibility of true freedom for an
entire society. Thus, any theory of morality that seeks to explain this concept of freedom must be able
to reconcile the contradiction it produces. Gandhi s Hind Swaraj comes close to being able to resolve
Nietzsche s contradictory concept of freedom, but applying Gandhi in this way highlights his own
difficulty situating freedom within his theory of home rule. With close analysis of passages from
Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morals and Gandhi s Hind Swaraj, the reader discovers that,
according to how one defines freedom, he or she will perceive an individual who they believe to be
truly free as having achieved moral perfection.

the strong would quickly enslave the weak. Adding Gandhi s path to freedom to Nietzsche s ideal

the weak. Gandhi claims that every reform must be preceded by discontent (23). In order for the weak
to commence their journey to becoming passive resisters, they must first experience unrest. Similarly,
Nietzsche believes that slave morality always first needs a hostile external world (37); and, his ideal
moral code produces this hostile environment that will generate unrest within the weak. However,
instead of seeking to change the moral code as they have done in the past, the weak would begin to

that really hits home when talking about the subject, the UFO incident of Roswell, New Mexico.
Around June 25th, 1947 a pilot, Ken Arnold had reported strange objects in the sky while flying near

was stated that the mortuary officer at the RAAF was trying to get small sealed coffins and wanted to
know how to preserves bodies that were exposed to weather. Dennis would then drive to the hospital,
where he had stated he saw strange pieces of wreckage and one inside an ambulance. As he entered
the hospital to talk to a nurse that he knew, he was threatened by military police to leave. The nurse
that he was meeting with told him of the bodies and drew them on a notepad. Within a few days the
nurse was transferred to England, where her whereabouts are still unknown. On July 8, the RAAF
public information officer Walter Haut made a press release that stated that a flying disk was
recovered at the crash site. Many people who had tried to go near the crash site were ushered out of
the area. The government had been involved with the situation as soon as they were actually briefed

exploitation or forced labor through abduction, force, threat, or fraud (UNOC 2015). Human
trafficking can come in many forms such as, sex exploitation, forced labour, as well as forced donor
ship. The truth about human trafficking is very much misunderstood in today s culture. Many victims
of human trafficking consent to leaving their home country to enter into a world filled with hope and
promise, only to find themselves in equally bad, if not worse living conditions. Human trafficking has
been increasing in countries all over the globe especially Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand.
There is a misunderstanding that this global issue only happens in third world countries, but civilized
countries are involved as well. In the United States over the past several years, human trafficking has
become a rapidly growing problem specifically in three cities in California: Los Angeles, San Diego,
and San Fransisco.
Sex Exploitation: Thailand Thailand is one of the major destinations, and transit countries for
trafficking in women and children for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The issue of sex exploitation
is partially the fault of geography. By land Thailand borders several

21. Benito Mussolini, AKA Il Dulce
Benito Mussolini, known as Il Duce, was the founder of the totalitarian form of government known as
Fascism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world
that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily
due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized
political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator.
Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were
made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a
green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army
uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The
Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini.
Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24,
1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he
declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome.
Mussolini s plan was to threaten to occupy the nation s capital of Rome with his forces, the
Blackshirts, and pressure King Victor Emmanuel III into inviting him into the government.

22. Psychoanalytic Personality In Lord Of The Flies
Psychoanalytic Personality Essay William Golding is a very strange man. The types of stories that he
wrote are very demonic, strange, and very insane to the reader. His demonic ways of life all lead to
him writing the novel, Lord of the Flies. Throughout the book, William Golding shows examples of
Freud s characteristics of the three different types of personality. The three characters that show these
examples are stranded on an island and showing whether or not they will have the civilized side of
them left. ( Id, Ego and Super ego ) The three characters on the island are Jack, Ralph, and Piggy.
The first personality is ID. ID operates on the pleasure principle which is the idea that every impulse
should be satisfied immediately, regardless of the consequences. When the ID achieves its demands,
they then experience pleasure. When it is denied, they then experience unpleasure or tension.
(McLeod) The best character from Lord of the Flies that fits this personality is Jack. Jack is willing to
do anything for his clan of wild hooligans and that even means killing anything to protect them, for
example killing the beast before it kills them all. Also, he is eager to make rules and punish those who
break them, he makes others follow them but he doesn t follow those same rules that he creates.
(Golding ) The other two characters are nothing like Jack but they do care about the others like Jack
does.
The next personality of the three is Ego. Freud s famous motto for

23. James W. Dixon s The Mystery Of The Chinese Junk
The book I chose, The Mystery of The Chinese Junk was written by James W. Dixon. This book takes
place in the 1940s, and takes place in the city Bayport. Some people say the city Bayport in the book
is based on Bayport, New York, due to similarities. The Mystery of The Chinese Junk is a realistic
fiction book, and is written in the third person limited point of view. The theme of this book is that
there will always be evil in the world, but it s how you handle it that matters.
The two main characters in this book are Frank and Joe Hardy. Frank is 1 year older than Joe(18), and
has blonde hair. Frank is a tall boy, and is the brains of the Hardy brother team. Joe is the younger
brother(17), with brown hair and also tall. Joe is considered the brawns between the two s mystery
solving team. Frank and Joe go through many frightening moments throughout the story, becoming
more aware and efficient at cracking the Chinese Junk case.
Frank and Joe are often accompanied with their friends Chet Morton, Biff Hooper, and Tony Prito.
These boys are always solving mysteries with each other, worrying the Hardy s mother and Aunt,
Laura and Gertrude. The boy s father, Fenton Hardy, is often the one to give them their mysteries to
solve. Two more characters in this book are Callie Shaw and Iola Morton, Frank and ... Show more

Sympathy for a Murderess In a time when women were thought of as airheaded and unconcerned with

Wright in the murder of her husband. From the moment they enter the home, Mrs. Hale is sympathetic

saying, Of course it s no more than their duty, in response to Mrs. Hales comment about the men

Once again the Primetime Emmy s have come and gone this year. Gone is the suspense about who will
win, and gone is the anticipation of who will wear whom. This year the fashion on the red carpet had
some hits some misses, some surprises and some of what was expected. Some specific trends were
definitely dominating this year on the red carpet. Some of the major trends that were seen over and
over aging at this year s ceremony are listed below. Many bare necks were seen this year when
actresses came with no necklaces on. Many of whom were sporting strapless gowns, but many were
not. It seems this year they opted for less jewelry. Jewelry was mostly found in the form of bracelets,
cuffs, rings and earrings. Stars were seen donning large earrings. ... Show more content on

But you don t have to spend a lot of money to be fashionable this fall. Leggings are a great way to
update your wardrobe this fall without breaking the bank. They are a great transition piece of clothing
that lets you stretch your summer dresses into the fall. There are a few things to keep in mind while
shopping for leggings this fall: They are meant as an accessory NOT as a replacement for pants! The
easiest way to pull of leggings is to have your outfit FIRST and the leggings to the outfit. So, go
through your closet and take a look at what you already have, and which outfits would benefit by
adding leggings to them. This will help stretch your summer wardrobe into the fall without spending a
lot of money. When looking at your outfits take note of what colors are in your outfits. When shopping
you will want to match the neutral colors in your outfits to a neutral pair of leggings. Keep it neutral.
Keep up with the current trend by keeping your leggings black, dark brown or dark grey. Pairing black
leggings with a mostly black dress helps you look chic, longer, and leaner. If you go with bright
leggings you might look like you ve had them for a few decades, or be mistaken for wearing your high
school daughter s pair. Do not under any circumstances wear leggings with stirrups (the small band
that slides under your foot to keep them in place). This style is outdated. Your leggings should hit
about mid calf. If you are taller then they can be a little higher, but they shouldn t hit your knee. Please
note that there is a difference between leggings and footless tights/pantyhose! Footless pantyhose are
very light and sometimes see thru. Confusing the two could make for an embarrassing moment.
Leggings are not sold in the lingerie section. They are located with the other clothing, and usually near
dresses or long tunics. Clothing stores try to

bankruptcy in the USA (Business Monitor International Ltd, 2010: 54).
In the late twentieth century, demand growth was strongly low. In contrast, the twenty first century
saw a boom in demand. For instance, Tata bought weaker players internationally, such as NatSteel in
2004, which was Tata Steel s first overseas acquisition, and the Anglo Dutch giant Corus in April

28. Essay On The Temperance Movement
The Temperance Movement was a part of a social campaign in America during the 1840 s that focused
on educating the public on the dangers of excessive drinking. This movement used both legislation
and exhortation to prohibit the manufacture, use and sale of alcohol. In 1840 Baltimore, a temperance
organization called the Washingtonians was formed made up originally6 of six former hard drinking
artisans and laborers who agreed to support one another in their efforts to remain sober. The
Washingtonian movement quickly caught on and provided a place not only for reforming drunkards
but also for non drinking working class men and women within the reform community. There were a
number of reasons people sought out the movement. Some wanted to stop drinking, plain and simple.

30. The Importance Of Courage In The Ramayana
Although Modern and Epic heroes are very diverse, their courage and determination attract the
admiration of others. After reading the Ramayana, many characteristics come forth that relate to the
heroes and people many grew up hearing about. Whether it is Spiderman who had the strength to save
the whole city from evil or Harriet Tubman whose bravery saved the lives of many slaves, their traits
shine like those of many heroes from the epics in history.
Courage is a trait that many people throughout the world have. However, Most of these people do not
practice it day to day. One person that demonstrates courage in their daily lives for the good of others
is Rosa Parks. Parks used the courage she had to stand up for herself and other African American
people who did not receive the same respect. She risked everything when she refused to let a white
man take her seat on the bus so that she could make the world a better place. Parks said, There is only
one world, and yet, we as people, have treated the world as if it were divided. We cannot allow the
gains we have made to erode. The goal of her movement was to get rid of the segregation of the black
and white bathrooms, schools, and drinking fountains. She was strong and courageous showing that
you were no different because of the color of your skin. Like Parks, the modern hero, Sita from the
Ramayana also portrays Courage throughout the story. More specifically, when Rama abandoned Sita
at the time she needed him the most she showed just how much courage she has. Sita was sent out by
Rama and had to raise two children on her own. She displayed strength and courage by not being a
coward and not crying for help but rather she did what was best for the children. She had to make
decisions on her own never really knowing if they were the right ones. Both of these women show
courage in different ways, but women around the world today can look upon both to understand how
to be strong and have courage in their most difficult times.
Along with courage, another trait most, if not all heroes have is determination. They never give up in
their most difficult times. A modern day hero with this trait is Martin Luther King Jr. He was a man
who became a civil rights leader and

31. The Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology has evolved over the years, improving in fields such as medicine, computer programming,
business, and the list goes on. It has opened up a number of jobs and work opportunities and helped
make society more efficient. The human brain has also benefited a great deal, due to fast paced
research and new ways to improve and present creativity skills, using different pieces of technology
and search engines. There are some downsides to technology and the wide growth of it, while some
problems are created through the misuse of it and how others take advantage of it. However,
technology really has more of a positive impact than anything, because it has made society and people
work more efficiently, opened up new work opportunities, helped our brains think more in depth and
helped people become more creative, and has really made an impact in medicine.
People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently. According to
Yuki Noguchi, a journalist for NPR news, reported that The advance of tablets and Web based
computing makes it possible for more people to work remotely... . People are now able to work much
faster and are able to get more done because they have things like cell phones, tablets, and laptops,
which makes it easier to work just about anywhere one goes. In addition, there is an increase in

1970s, the wrap dress had revolutionized American women s apparel. It was extremely versatile as it
could be worn both as a comfortable business dress and also as an evening gown. In just a two year

33. Why Are Movies Better Than Movies
When it comes to the entertainment boom millennials are facing, no other debate is as fierce as the
debate of whether movies or book are better. Novels, or books, are perennial, having lasted throughout
time as the premier way of sharing knowledge and the presentation of entertainment. However, the
invention of films in the late 1800 s disrupted the titan. Movies then became a significant way to
present stories and fears of books effacing from existence became mainstream. Although novels are
still present in modern times, the movie industry has only exploded, with the uprise of Hollywood and
billions of dollars of spending movies have become as big as books. However, when it comes to the
debate on whether which form of information is better, novels have always been on the winning side
with the most people standing behind books. Movies are rapidly approaching the popularity of books,
but literature will still be better than films in ways such as prevailing in time and story limitations,
immersing the reader, and providing more space for thoughts and imagination. Movies, although
innovative, cannot stand to literature because of their limitations, and lack of ability to allow viewers
to think and be in harmony with them. A book is edited and crafted, but the writer is still working
within an unlimited time canvas. This condensing of books into movies leads to deleted parts from the
book or abbreviation of developments within the book. (6 Reasons The Book Is (Almost

Briefing Arlington County s Stormwater Management Staff on the Four Mile Run Watershed Model
Oct 26, 2017
Meeting Notes
In Attendance: Sayedul Choudhury, Riyam Alobaidi, Elizabeth Thurber and Guosheng Qui
Sayedul provided an update on the Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model. A model summary and a map of
model components (see attached) were handed out.
The Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model results were found to match observed flows at the Shirlington
gage, especially for large storms (5,000 cfs or larger). However, for the tributaries, small streams and
upper Four Mile Run segments, the model performance cannot be validated until local wet weather
flow data are collected.
Sayedul requested Arlington County to

Sayedul will collect a copy of the data from Riyam.
CH2M added storages to a number of subwatersheds in the tributary models to account for water that
cannot enter the pipes, especially if the pipes are too small to carry the peak watershed runoff. Streams
Tech will evaluate the need for such storages in other subwatersheds to ensure that no water is lost
from the system.
Arlington County and Streams Tech personnel will walk along the key or questionable areas of the
stormwater network to identify potential problems and verify the connectivity and representation of
network (nodes, links, storages and subwatersheds) in the model.
Arlington County will provide data for an initial update of the model and then provide data annually to
update the model.
Streams Tech will coordinate NVRC to set up meeting to provide a project update to the Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC).
Arlington County wants to use the model results for various projects and programs including the MS4
Program.

Dance is an art, celebrated around the world. Different areas and countries of the world are home to
specific world dances, like the flamenco of Spain. Although flamenco has its own unique history,
current context, and elements, it can be compared and contrasted with tap dance, a more familiar
dance style. By analyzing dance elements, such as music and costumes, for both dances, as well as the
historical and current context, one can better understand the similarities and differences between both
dance styles. To begin, the historical context of tap dance is complicated and diverse; there is not one

There are other elements that can accompany the main elements such as rhythmic hand clapping
(palmas) and shouts (jaléo). The dancing of flamenco involves intricate movement of almost every
part of the body as well as a strong performance aspect. The most prominent feature of flamenco is the
rhythmic expressions. The rapid heel and footwork made by the dancer is called zapateado. The
slapping of the thighs and chest, along with the clapping of the hands is called palmas. Stamping steps
with the feet is called marcado, and occasionally there is the playing of the castanet (castanuella).
There are also other lower body movements from the waist down that utilize the hips, knees and legs.
The upper body of the dancer is also very involved. The dancer uses the wrists and fingers to snap
(pitos), and to make fanning, circular movements. She also will use facial expressions and other
personalized movements to enhance the performance (Tomás). A performance by Celina Zambon to
Alma Libre shows these elements in unison and shows how emotionally powerful flamenco can be.
