His research has been published in e.g. Organizations Studies, Organization and the Sloan
Management Review. The authors show that there are significant gaps in knowledge and a great
need for research on how service work can be designed, organized and led in order to promote the
innovation potential of employees. Schilling and
Werr identified and elaborate the following knowledge gaps and needs for further research:
Understanding the dynamics of the service innovation process Using contextualized models of
service innovation Exploring and comparing different types of service firms Service innovation in
business networks Knowledge and knowledge processes in service innovation Innovative climate
and HRM practices Communication and talk in the service innovation. Power and politics in the
service innovation Gender studies of service innovation
In spring 2009 VINNOVA launches almost 40 million on research and development to help fill
some of the identified knowledge gaps. The literature review is part of the preparatory work on the
announcement. In addition, an interview study is initiated and will be released during spring.

Revenge And Adultery In Le Morte D Arthur
Important reoccurring themes in Le Morte d Arthur are adultery, fate, revenge, people hiding their
true identity, (unanswered) love, quests and chivalry HIER OOK. In Le Morte d Arthur adultery is
one of the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born
because of adultery between his mother Igraine, who was actually married to the duke of Tintagil,
and his father King Uther Pendragon. Secondly he commits adultery himself with his sister, King
Lot s wife. Their child Mordredwill destroy him at the end of the book and so he is punished for
his sin. Thirdly Arthur s wife Guenever commits adultery with one of his knights, Launcelot. Fate is
a very eminent theme as well, as the future is often known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he
dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he
dreams about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case,
symbolise destruction and the death of Arthur (NoodГ©n 1992). The white brachet that ran in
court with a lady on a palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the
brachet was a symbol for love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine
or Pellinore, as they are not capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing
Beast is an important animal symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt
it down, but it seems quite a useless thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests,
like when he has to find the lady of the hart and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need.
The quest he is doing is made useless because of that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the
Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s personality (Dagg

Business Strategy Of Dish Network Corporation

Business Strategies Dish Network Corporation is an American organization that specializes in
offering direct satellite service providers. The company has for a long time served many Americans
through their interactive television services, satellite internet access, satellite television and audio
programming among others. However much Dish Corporation is in business with a large number
of subscribers, it is faced with a myriad of competition from rival firms that offer the same services.
The firms that rival Dish Corporation include Comcast Corporation, Time Warner Cable Enterprise
and Directv Group holdings. As of the year 2016, Dish Corporation has had more than 13 million
subscribers who access their services. For a large organization such as Dish, concrete strategies
are required to push rival firms out of business. This essay will center its focus on the key strategies
that Dish has adopted over the years to remain in business and at the same time gain competitive
advantage. The first key strategy that Dish Corporation has adopted in its quest to gain competitive
advantage over its competitors is putting more emphasis on customer focus. Customer focus in the
latter perspective represents boosting services such as customer care. In the recent years, the firm
has been faced by dwindling financial situations that have almost threatened to knock it out of
business. As a result, the firm has adopted the idea of adopting up to

Midlife Crisis Research Paper
Growing up I would hear my mother talking to her friends and saying how my dad was going
through a midlife crisis. I would then hear the term again and again in life but I still had no clue
what it really meant. Midlife crisis is a term referring to a critical phase in human development
during the forties to early sixties, based on the character of change points, or periods of
transition. The period is said to vary among individuals and between men and women. So I will
break down what happens during this transition in a man and woman s life. I will also discuss what
could cause this to happen in ones life.
Male midlife crisis is defined by researchers as having a personal turmoil and coping challenges
in people brought on by fears and anxieties about growing older. (Lang, S. 2001)This emotional
transition will be experience by many men generally between the ages of 45 and 60, but men as
young as 40 can also experience it. Men are susceptible to this condition especially if they have had
a transition in their life or they have experienced something traumatic. Most men can deal with this
process without making any major changes to their lifestyles ... Show more content on

A stereotype of woman suffering a midlife crisis is one who is physically unattractive, childless,
not interested in sex, menopausal, depressed, irritable, frustrated and intellectually dull. Which
are not true females that have a midlife crisis normally are working, have children and are
married. Midlife crisis is relatively understudied for women. Initially, it was thought that the
causes of midlife crisis for men were also the causes of midlife crisis for women which are not the
case. Midlife crisis in women is not an inevitable result of menopausal depression or empty nest
syndrome ( Mcquaide, S.

A Comparison of Two Newspapers
A Comparison of Two Newspapers Media helps us to know more about what s happening around
us. There are many types of media; newspapers are one among them. Newspapers can be
classified into two types: tabloids and broadsheets. Tabloids are known as the popular press .
They are often biased and contain gossips about personalities and are less serious. The sentence
structure and vocabulary are simple. Therefore, they are mostly read by the working class with
minimum qualifications. In contrast to the tabloids, broadsheets are aimed at more educated
audience and are more serious than tabloids. They are read by audience with professional jobs are

This issue was published on two different newspapers, The Guardian and The Sun . When we
look at the content on each article The Guardian has taken the news more serious than The Sun .
We can see this in importance given to article in each paper. In The Guardian the news was
printed on the first page, whereas, it was printed on the second page of The Sun . The Guardian
focuses on the reaction from both sides. It gives us information of the situation and reactions
from his opposes as well as from Pinochet s supporters. It also focuses on the on the problems
caused to the government due to this historic decision of Jack Straw and the reason for why he is
being tried and it also mentions about the legal process. When we look at the article in The Sun it
seems to be biased because it only focuses on one side. It doesn t give us much information like
The Guardian . It focuses on how the decision affects Pinochet and the responses from his
supporters, like Margaret Thatcher and it has no mention about the reactions from the human rights
campaigners and the families of the victims. The use of headlines and pictures play a main role in
targeting the target audience. The headline in The Guardian article attracts the reader s attention.
Combined with the picture it gives us the key idea

Classical Ancient Greece Essay examples
The expanse of time that the term Ancient Greece defines is all the way from around 7,250 BCE
when the first evidence of burial sites were discovered in Argolid, Greece, during the Mesolithic
Period, to around the year 30 BCE when Cleopatra died in Alexandra, Egypt (1). That is the better
part of 7,200 years. Trying to fit all of that information into five to seven pages would be nearly
impossible. That is why I will be focusing on the Classical Era of Greecewhich spans from about
500 BCE to around 320 BCE. During this time in Greece there were many conflicts and wars, but
there was also much growth in the cultural aspects of their society.

However, for women in poorer families that is not the case. They had to work along side the
husband and most time kids out in the fields. They would normally work their, depending on
income, from morning until night (3). Then, she would come back to the house and take care of
it. Greek homes were really not that fancy. The walls were made with mud brick that were
covered in plaster and topped with pottery tiles to make a roof. The windows were not covered
so they were pretty much open holes. Poor families had normally one or two rooms while rich
families had multi roomed and multi story house. Even though the two classes of people were
separated by vast wealth they all had very basic and simple wooden furniture. (3)
Even though you can t believe everything you see in movies, you can pretty much trust them to
accurately depict the Greek clothing. All but the very rich wore garments made of wool or linen;
the very rich had their clothing made from more expensive things like silk or cotton. The
garments themselves were also very simple. They were normally rectangular cut pieces of fabric
with arm holes cinched at the waste. That was their usual everyday outfit. If men were to travel,
they most likely took with them a cloak and wide rimmed hats. Women, again depending on class,
wore many different types of jewelry including

Child Custody Analysis
In child custody cases, the legal field approves the methods used by psychologists, yet argues that
psychologists must understand that lawyers are trained to work in an adversarial system in which
their role is to advocate the client s best interests (Lee, Beauregard, Hunsley, 1998, p.118). With
that being said, lawyers in child custody cases are supportive and even encourage psychological
involvement in the determination of the child s best interests, yet also argue that it is essential for
them to have some knowledge of familylaw. The main purpose of a lawyer is to defend his client
regarding of what psychologists have to say. However, they still have a word about the methods
used in custody evaluation (Lee et al., 1998,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to determine if an expert testimony is accepted in court, the judge refers to the Daubert
criteria, which is constituted of four criteria that determine if an evidence is reliable (Pozzulo,
Bennell, Forth, 2015, p. 22). Ackerman argues that some custody evaluations are accepted in court
even if they do not follow any ethical guidance. He states that psychologist should conduct a
neutral child evaluation and that they have to do it right or don t do it at all (Ackerman, 2010, p.

The Stereotypes Of Body Image In Society And Culture
The bodies seen in the media recently tend to represent extremely prejudiced beauty. Many
companies, especially in the fashion industry, value the appearance of the models, and appoint
them as a representation of their products. In addition, the models walking the runway at the
fashion show and posing in the magazines, are used as a display of beauty to represent the
idealized or required thinness and stylish . These are familiar sights in daily life, and obviously,
this dazzling world consists of privileged people, and there is no room for marginalized people.
As a result, these stereotypical body images are implanted in people s subconsciousnesses, and
unknowingly, people try to follow this trend. Also, through these biased images, people define
what is normal and what is the gendered role of women in this society. These unrealistic and
symbolic body images cause many social problems, and establishes the standard from the view of
privileged people, while ignoring the minority people out of the normal frame.
This essay explores how the biased body image influences on the current society and culture, and
how the marginalized people are categorized in this society. Firstly, in order to grasp the stereotype
of the body image, I will discuss about who has the authority to control their gender or the body
image.
As an example of the socially and culturally established ideal feminine , I want to mention about

Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet And Luhrmann Films
The Comparisons of the 1997, and the 1965 Romeo and Juliet Films Two different actors, Baz
Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli, take on the challenge of recreating the William Shakespeare play,
Romeo and Juliet. Some of the comparisons of the two Romeo and Juliet plays, by William
Shakespeare, is the dialogue and the colors. For the dialogue both directors use some of the same
lines of the William Shakespeareplay. Part fools! Put up our swords; you know not what you do
(Act I, Scene i, p. 13). Another comparison between the Zefferelli and the Luhrmann film is, they
kept the same names of the characters. In the Luhrmann film Benvolio is that same name and has
the same lines in the Zefferelli film. Another Character that shows this is Tybalt.

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening And Desert Places
Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Desert Places are complementary
works which coincide with the naturesque elements most commonly ascribed to Frost. The two
poems were published over a decade apart in a period after the first World War where feelings of
lack of community and self worth had grown in precedents amongst the general public. The early
years of Frost s literary career were spent on his poultry farm in Derry, New Hampshire as he
toiled his land. Although Frost made for a bad farmer and suffered many difficulties and losses, it
was during that time when he developed his colloquial style of poetry. Of his numerous works,
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Desert Places both share a common wintertime setting
and similar, but contrasting, language and themes.
From the features that draw on the distinctness between the poems is their linguistic style. In
Stopping by Woods , the language used is more rhythmic and sing song like than the gloomy,
earnest descriptions portrayed in Desert Places . The duo was also written with four stanzas in
iambic meter with similar rhyme schemes, however the difference between the two lies in the
verbatim used to illustrate nature as an omnipresent force. In Desert Places , Robert Frost s persona
describes the snow as engulfing the landscape, And the ground almost covered smooth in snow
/And a few weeds and stubble showing last. (3 4). On the other hand, in Stopping by Woods the
snow has a

China s Low Rates Of Air Pollution
China, after an economic boom and great success in rapidly expanding in their markets and
manufacturing, has become the perfect opposite case example to the United States in recent times.
China began its rise to a modern global economic power in the 1980s, but never once had any
strong, well enforced environmental regulations until 2013. As unregulated factory and automobile
use increased, China s rates of pollution quickly surpassed that of the United States, leaving China
much more affected by air pollutionthan the United States in recent times. In China, there is a
much higher rate of cardiovascular disease than in the United States due to the high rates of air
pollution. In China in 2012, 98% of people have been exposed to small particles that result from
burning coal that are known to cause respiratory conditions like asthma and lung cancer as
compared to 16% in the United States (Zhang et al 5323). An estimated 1.2 million people die from
exposure to outdoor air pollution in China as compared to 200,000 in the United States. Due to
recent improvements on enforcement of environmental protection regulations in China, that
number is decreasing. (Jiang et al 2). In 2013, more than half of the days out of the year were
considered unhealthy or even worse in Chinese cities. Levels of harmful air particles were as high
as 40 times higher than the World Health Organization recommends. By 2017, with the
implementation of environmental protection regulations in the area, the

Descriptive Essay On Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
Everyone dreams about buying his or her dream house; I lost my dream house, twice. When my
girlfriend Izzy and I began house searching, it was a whirlwind of excitement. This was our first
hunt in the real estate market, and we were ready to close in on the perfect first house. Suddenly
we were staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses
on Zillow. Throw pillows, dishes and pictures began to jump off the shelves at us in every store we
entered. We anxiously imagined every aspect of what we wanted in our house. The rush of chasing
down the ideal house and making it our home was thrilling, yet short lived.
We were set on a modern ranch style dwelling, farmhouse style for her, and a large garage for me.
One day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every
bullet point on our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home
had a large southern style front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets.
The open and light build was perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage
complete with a custom peg wall for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the
house was the back yard, large and completely fenced in. The storage and build was perfect for
me. We knew this was our house; it had to be.
As we were standing in the center of the bare living room, our real estate agent s phone began to
ring. We

The United States Tax Code
With the ever increasing complexity of the United States tax code, it has become more important
than ever for companies to understand and implement possible tax benefits for the company and
its employees. One major benefit that applies to both is employer provided meals. Employer
provided meals have become a major topic due to their double sided benefits. These are both tax
beneficial to employers, as the meals can be deducted by the business as an expense on its federal
income tax return, which reduces the business tax liability. Concurrently, the benefit of the
provided meal is excluded from the taxable gross income of the employee, providing the employee
with a tax free benefit. After fully understanding the laws related to employer provided meals, a
business could begin thinking about implementation of the benefit.
Due to the nature of the benefits, there are several sections of applicable tax code that will need to
be considered. This comes from the United States Code Title 26, which is the Internal Revenue
Code (IRC). The meals are both tax beneficial to a company and its employees. The meals can be
deducted by the business as an expense on its federal income tax return, which reduces the tax
liability. Employees also receive a benefit from the excludability of the provided meal from their
taxable gross income. One will need to understand what is included in employee income, the
requirements for meals to be provided for the convenience of the employer, and how

African American Apparel Character Analysis
The times are changing. It is the close of the 19th century and clothes, music and entertainment (to
some extent) are changing to keep up with the times. One thing, however, seems to remain the
same...the mistreatment and misrepresentation of African American s in society, especially when
portrayed through theater. This is clearly evident through the Virginia Minstrel shows and their use
of Stock Characters which play on the harsh and demeaning stereotypes society had created about
them. Quite sad really, to look back at these shows and understand how popular they were, even
though they blatantly demoralized the racethey were depicting. Minstrel shows at this time used
what was called Stock Characters . Stock characters were based on the stereotypes against African
Americans and each had specific attributes that would make them the target of many jokes.
Meanwhile, these characters were so stereotypical that it was easy to write a script for these shows.

One character, very easy to pick out, in my opinion, would be Zip Coon. Some of his features
that stood out were that his clothes were a little garish and audacious. In other words, the outfits
he wore were over the top and out of place for where he was. Another attribute is that his speech
sounds so illiterate while his sentence structure and wording made him sound unintelligent.
Various stories depicted the Zip Coon character as someone who sometimes gets duped into
doing a job for someone or flirting with a white woman. Zip Coon, and the others, were very
easy to write for due to the fact that they were based on stereotypes and their original stories were
spoken. So in the end of all of this, the writers could make these stories up to be anyway they want

What Is The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto
The communist Manifesto is the author s way of interpreting the goals of Communism, as well as
the theory underlying this movement. Two major points of the manifesto explain how class
relationships are defined by an era s means of production. Also, the manifesto incorporates how
class struggles, or exploitation of one class by another, are motivating force behind all historical
developments. If those two points are not followed then a revolution occurs and a new class
emerges as the ruling one. This outcome represents the march of history which is driven by
economic variables. The Manifesto argues that this development is inevitable, and the capitalism is
inherently unstable. Elimination of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the reading was worth my time. Most readings that I am forced to read do not peak my
interest. This work on the other hand was enjoyable because it was filled with information
regarding the work of communism. This book has to be considered one of many famous literary
works. It is hard to argue that the text is not worth reading. I don t believe in the ideas expressed
in the text, but I respect the impact that the novel has had on society. Communism was viewed as
such a scary topic for most of history and it was interesting to read about it. I am not sure why the
author came up with these ideas. I do know that he was the basis for the idea of communism. It is
hard to say that the author did not contribute to my understanding of the topic because if he did not,
then I would be considered an idiot. It is almost like getting a basketball lesson from Michael
Jordon and not improving your game. The way in which the text was represented made it easy to
understand. The four section format was broken down in a way so it had easy access. The most
important thing that I obtained from the text is how much I am proud to be an American. I love
the form of government that we have. A democracy is something that I am proud to be apart of. It
also makes me proud of our government that we went out to stop the spread of communism. All

The New Jersey And Virginia
In May of 1787, individuals from each state assembled in Philadelphia, to transform the United
States government into an effective and powerful nation that conducted affairs in workable ways.
The delegates meeting at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 were given
consent to alter and revise the Articles of Confederation. Except for those from New Jersey and
Virginia, the representatives intended to revise the Articles. The primary issue that they resolved
was that of State Representation. William Paterson and his associates offered a list of suggestions
for revising the Articles of Confederation in his New Jersey Plan. Paterson, a delegate from New
Jersey, supported the weak national government that the Articles made. Paterson declared
imbalance of the rights of the small states against the large states and wished to expand upon the
Articles making a more representative and all around well organized government. Under the
Articles, Congress had no way to avert war or to provide for national security against foreign
intrusion. The government could not resolve the fight between states, manage interstate exchange,
collect taxes, or uphold laws. These shortcomings of the confederation distressed political leaders.
Accordingly, they requested an assemblage in order to revise the Articles and restore the fledgling
country. The Virginia Plan, composed by James Madison and proposed by Edmund Randolph
presented a government separated into three branches of

Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively
enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially,
if a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands
to reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty
to be threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual
securitization of governmental corruption in Nigeriathrough deliberate neglect of malpractices in
government and the implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create
insecurity, instability, threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an
understanding of the issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in
securitizing the issue of corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is
possible because within government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is
a general term covering misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which
need not be monetary (Bayley 720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument
to comprehend this concept because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences
the root of decision making by enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that

My Worldview On Helping Others And Poverty
This paper discusses who I am and how I have become the person I am today through different
cultural experiences and my worldview on helping others and poverty. What makes me difference
from other people, why Social Work interests me and the criteria to be a fit and proper Social
Worker.
The word culture can mean numerous things to different people around the world. Most of us are
who we are today because of the different cultures we have been exposed to over the years
through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of the word culture
means the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the
shared bases of social action (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or view on
situations based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I learnt my
cultural values and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age, I learnt different
ideas and beliefs through friends, community, work and study. As I became older, these changed,
because of marriage, new country and had a family of my own. Therefore, my cultural experiences
kept changing with me, for example, my study culture , turned into primary school and kindy .
Now I am a mother, I try and instil some of that into my children as well as allowing them to create
their own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and recreational activities.
In addition of being a part of a mothers culture I am

Hilton Worldwide s Success Since The Time It
Hilton Worldwide has had success since the time it was established. Conrad N. Hilton has made a

In March of 2015, Brandon Potter and JB Snyder discovered the ability to hijack any account with

Strategic Pricing Proposal to Counter Generic Sildenafil
STRATEGIC PRICING PROPOSAL TO COUNTER GENERIC SILDENAFIL We, the Viagra

the Pfizer Executive Leadership Team for presentation at the next quarterly meeting. Viagra has
been very successful since its approval in March 1998 as a first in class erectile dysfunction (ED)

Year after year, we have taken advantage of our position by setting our own price rather than
basing it on demand and supply equilibrium. The latest sales numbers from 2011 shows Viagra s
success in having the largest market shares compared to our competitors: ED Drugs| Market
Share| Sales| Viagra(Pfizer)| 45%| 1.9 B| Cialis(Eli Lilly)| 36%| 1.5 B| Levitra (Bayer AG)| 15%|
0.5 B| FUTURE OF VIAGRA Change in Demand and Supply Again, similar to Zoloft, once
Viagra s patent expires, the generic competitors entering the market will force Viagra to
significantly drop its price in order to remain competitive. The pricing will affect the demand
which means the demand is now elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand
from inelastic to elastic, the supply curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple
generic manufacturing firms enter the market causing the ED market to progress further into a
monopolistic competitive market. Consumers Although we have achieved high profits with
Viagra, we still have more opportunities to grow our market shares and maximize profits.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), approximately 30 million men in the United
States are affected by ED. [5] Of those affected, 80% of those men do not seek treatment and
never discuss their issues with their doctors. [6] Most men have been affected by ED at some

Advantages Of A Feather Pillow
Choosing the most comfortable feather pillow
Getting a good night s sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but
also your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a
weaker immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night s sleep
becomes important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to
sleep adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural
materials, a feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather
pillow types and manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to

Down
Pillows come stuffed with either feathers or down, or a mixture of the two. Down is the cotton like
insulation underneath the hard feathers that keeps a bird cozy, comfy and warm. These feathers are
very soft and fluffy, as compared to the bird s outer feathers which are harder with sharp quills.
The best feather pillows hence contain 100%. Generally, pure down pillows are of higher quality
and comfort than other feather pillows and tend to stay comfy longer. Higher quality pillows come
with a warranty from the manufacturer, so you ll give a peace of your mind (and even get a
replacement!) if your pillow doesn t function well enough.
The Fluff Factor and pillow Fluffiness
How fluffy a pillow is depends on the Fill Power of the pillow. According to the Down Feather
Company Fill power tells us the amount of space that an ounce of the down will fill in cubic
inches inside the pillow. A higher fill power indicates that the pillow contains down from a more
mature bird. This down is larger than that from a younger bird. Larger down feathers mean more
loft or height to the pillow.

The Gondoliers Research Paper
Humor is an essential part of life. It makes the worst moments in our lives seem livable. Also
important in life is music because it simply allows us to enjoy a moment. A moment that can
remain infinite, in a lifetime of finite moments, but only if composed and performed correctly. With
music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbertthe elements of music and humor are
effortlessly combined to create a comic opera also known as a savory opera The Gondoliers(The
Gondoliers Program). The Gondoliers first premiered at the Savoy Theatre on December 7, 1889,

Gilbert but it almost never materialized. Sullivan had said comedic opera had become distasteful
and he wanted to work on something more dignified (Smith). Luckily for the pair they did create
The Gondoliers which ran a total of 554 performances and was to be given a royal command
performance for Queen Victoria (Smith). The Gondoliers was actually the last great success for
Gilbert and Sullivan. The story of this light hearted opera concerns a complex plot in which there
is a tale of love, marriage, and of course mistaken identity. Two brothers, Marco and Giuseppe, are
Republican Gondoliers with very idealistic ideas (Smith). Just after Giuseppe and Marco
become newlyweds Don Alhambra informed them that that either Giuseppe or Marco is the
King of Barataria and are to be wed to the beautiful Casilda. Upon this news the new wives of the
brothers, Tessa and Gianetta, are very upset and promptly burst out in tears. In the meantime we
find out that Casilda is in love with the family servant Luiz. Casilda is upset as she did not know
she was married as a baby and she is worried she will not be able to love her husband. We then
find out that the King of Barataria has been killed and until it is determined who the rightful
prince is the two gondoliers must jointly rule the kingdom. To find out who will get the crown,
Luiz is sent out to find his mother, the nurse of the prince as she is the only one who can
identify the rightful heir to the thrown. Casilda then arrives to claim her husband only to find
that both Marco and Giuseppe are married. Giuseppe and Marco are skillfully left alone with
Casilda but to add to the drama and comedy Tessa and Gianetta sneak in. The group then discusses
the complicated problem of who is married and who is not. The group is interrupted by the arrival
of Inez, the nurse if the Prince. She confesses that when she was caring for the Prince there were

Middle School Documentary Techniques
When we made our video we incorporated a few techniques one of them was only wanting them

When we came up with the topic for our documentary, we had to decide if it was going to be
subjective or objective; we decided to choose objective. This is because we thought it would be
easier to work with. The documentary is mainly objective with a little bit of subjective in it. In
the documentary, we recorded it in a way so that we couldn t be seen. We said to everyone to
wave and look at the camera so that they seemed happier. We did this to change the opinion of the
person who is watching it so that they will think that this is how people act in middle middle
school but in reality, this is not what happens. The shots of the middle school also show parts of the
building and some other teachers which talk about what they do and who they are. When the

Child And Adolescent Psychiatric Disorders And Their Daily...
Mental Health is not merely the absence of psychopathology, but the presence of sufficient levels of
emotional, psychological, and social well being (Keyes, 2002). Over the lasts 20 years, there has
been a shift in understanding the epidemiological study of child and adolescent psychiatric
disorders and their daily functioning. About one out of every ten youths is estimated to meet the
Substance Abuse and Mental HealthServices Administration (SAMHSA) criteria for a Serious
Emotional Disturbance (SED), (Costello et al, 2005) defined as a mental health problem that has
a drastic impact on a child s ability to function socially, emotionally, and academically (Brauner
and Stephens, 2006). Children who have difficulty paying attention, following directions, getting
along with others, and controlling negative emotions of anger and distress do less well in school
(McClelland et al., 2000). For many children, academic achievement in their first few years of
schooling appears to be built on a firm foundation of children s emotional and social skills (Raver,
2002).
Twenty years ago, treatments for children diagnosed with serious emotional disturbance (SED)
consisted of services offered primarily in inpatient hospitals, residential centers, or outpatient
centers; most of these treatment settings included limited family involvement (Ringeisen
Hoagwood, 2002). The challenges faced by these services include ensuring the generalization and

The Mystery That Was Jay Gatsby
The Mystery that was Jay Gatsby
I carry on a little business on the side, a sort of sideline, you understand (Fitzgerald 87). In The

actually made his fortune. And even here, he doesn t reveal much, but Nick Carraway assumes it

Parker s Back by Flannery O Connor
To the uninitiated, the significance of Flannery O Connor s Parker s Back can seem at once
cold and dispassionate, as well as almost absurdly stark and violent. Her short stories routinely
end in horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a character s emotional devastation.
Flannery O Connor is a Christian writer, and her work is message oriented, yet she is far too
brilliant a stylist to tip her hand; like all good writers, crass didacticism is abhorrent to her. Unlike
some more cryptic writers, O Connor was happy to discuss the conceptual and philosophical
underpinnings of her stories, and this candor is a godsend for the researcher that seeks to know
what makes the writer tick.

For me, the most chilling aspect of the story is the description of a prophetic water stain above
Asbury s bed:
Thematic Elements
This concept of displacement runs throughout O Connor s work, and it is essentially a
displacement from the world of the one true God, a theological displacement, although within the
context of the story it is more social, based on the nature of the freak s position in the society. Very
often, the grotesque elements of O Connor s stories are balanced out by anagogical ones. Again,
the latter are not specifically symbols, for symbols work contextually to represent interactive story
elements, whereas O Connor s anagogical elements are just there, they wander in and out of the
action; they may have symbolic significance, but it never comes directly into play as a plot
element. Facing death is another thematic element that recurs often in O Connor, for obvious
reasons, both personal and religious. 23 O Connor admits as much herself, in an essay in which
she discusses A Good Man is Hard to Find: The heroine of the story, the Grandmother, is in the
most significant position life offers the Christian.
She is facing death. 24 This last quote speaks volumes; it is probably the single most significant and
telling remark the student of Flannery O Connor can have in his attempt to understand her work.
Clearly facing death as a Christian was the motivational engine that

Theme Of Alienation In Richard Cory
In these three stories we have three different characters who are cast outs and seem to stray away
from the world around them. The difference in these three characters is that they each have a
certain way they express this theme of loneliness and alienation. While some characters may
seem to have no troubles or problems whatsoever on the outside, it does not mean that they are
normal on the inside as well. To figure out why these characters appeal to us, like so, takes a
more psychological bearing into their well being and how they think. It also means looking closer
at how they view the world around them as well as other people.

might be. He decides in the end that it would not be worth the risk and having the dread of

himself in a dark cloud of sadness.
Lastly, our character from Edwin Arlington Robinson s Miniver Cheevy , a known town

Influence Of Religion In Canterbury Tales
The author of The Canterbury Tales had much to say when it came to religion and the religious
people of his society. Chaucer gave descriptions on a number of characters from different
backgrounds. He had a certain bias towards people who are truly good while the truly bad people
were made fun of by him He paid special attention to a character when the topic of religion was
involved. With the Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner acted like a hypocrite and the author made sure
to point out his hypocrisy, be it implied or expressed in the story. Chaucer was one of the very
few who had the courage to criticize church officials in his lifetime, and it shows that he had a
swell time doing it as well. That is why Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, viewed
religion and church officials as a joke because he made fun of most of the religious characters in
his prologue, was more meticulous towards religious characters on the topic of religion, and
pointed out the hypocrisy of the Pardoner s morals in his character description and in the
Pardoner s Tale. Chaucer made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue. One of the
very first church officials in the prologue is the Nun. The Nun is supposed to constantly be pure
and holy, but Chaucer introduces her physical appearance by jokingly saying Her forehead,

Harper Lee, The Sentry By Wilfred Owen, And Good Guys Dead...
Countless authors, all throughout time, can be seen to write about their passions, their

authors early life experiences or the time setting when they grew up in have any impact on why
the writer developed the work? A range of authors and texts are being covered in this report and
the content will vary from World War One experiences to more recent times of racial segregation
in America. This report has been formed to answer questions and form relationships between
authors and the reason(s) or any influence(s) as to why the following authors have developed their
work: Harper Lee, Wilfred Owens, Ernest Hemingway. I decided to investigate the following texts:

setting when they grew up in promoted or influenced the development of their work, three questions
must be asked for an accurate conclusion to be drawn: How heavily did the Harper Lee s early life
experiences influence her writing? Where there any government influences that impacted on the
authors writing? Why exactly did the author write the text?

have made him see things a bit differently and even give her the raise. As for Sheila, I think she
treated Eva terribly and if the rest of the characters had shown some acknowledgement to Sheila

Sheila s obvious signs of regret the inspector stills try to make her feel bad by saying things like,

Disadvantages Of Food Dyes
Introduction Color additives are added to almost everything, from toothpaste to medicines. They
are also added to food and drink to make it appear more appealing to consumers. However, when
used improperly, food dyes can be dangerous. As a result, the use of color additives is highly
regulated by the FDA the Food and Drug Administration in the Unites States.1 Food dyes are
controlled so harshly because their structure is similar to that of some of the bases found in human
DNA, and the dye could possibly cause a change a DNA base pair. A mutation is a change in a
small part of the DNA sequence of a cell which can then replicate, spreading the mutation.
Mutations often lead to various diseases such as cancer. 2 The FDA will only approve the use of a
coloradditive if they are certain beyond a reasonable doubt that the dye is safe, but the safety of
the dye can never be proven entirely. For example, the dye yellow5 is used in food, cosmetics, and
medicines.3 However, some people will have an allergic reaction to this product despite it being
deemed safe to use. For this reason, the FDA also requires that any companies using a color
additive in their products must list it on the label so that people sensitive to the substance can avoid
it. 1
Despite any potential health concerns people may have, food dyes play an important role in the
consumer market place. Buyers expect certain things out of their food. For example, it stands to
reason that a grape flavored beverage is purple

The Mobile Internet Is Growing, Fueled By Increasing...
The mobile Internet is growing, fueled by increasing invasions of smartphone and better
networks. Here the question arise that what is the smartphone? The smartphone is a cellular
phone that operates many of the roles of a computer, holding Internet access, a touchscreen
interface, and a various operating system that enables downloaded applications to run. In this
modern society, with smartphones, tablets and cloud computing, everything is moving around
quickly. The growing abilities of mobile phones are positioning them as the technology of
choice, replacing PCs, for many users. As such, the use of these devices must be considered as a
vital learning device available to higher education. According to Lacohee, Wakeford, Pearson,
2003, in the initial rise of mobile technology advancement, cell phones were exclusive devices
originally used by middle and upper class people. Smartphones has the facilities to transmit and
receive calls and create and accept text messages, as another digital portable gadgets like personal
digital assistants (PDAs), such as an event list, Bluetooth, music player, video games, GPS, digital
camera and video camera and can operate a variety of third party software elements known as apps

Harmonic Compensation by PV-STATCOM
For emolument of current harmonics (if any), the instantaneous resoluteness of different active
and reactive powers is utilized the active and reactive powers are computed utilizing p q theory.
No restrictions are imposed on the voltage or current wave forms, and it can be applied to three
phase systems with or without a neutral wire for three phase generic voltage and current wave
forms. Thus, it is valid not only in steady state, but withal in transient states. The p q Theory first
transforms voltages and currents from the a b c to О± ОІ o coordinates, and then defines
instantaneous power on these coordinates. Hence, this theory always considers the three phase
system as a unit, not a superposition or sum of three single phase circuits. The p q Theory utilizes
the О± ОІ o transformation, additionally kenned as the Clarke transformation, which consists of an
authentic matrix that transforms three phase voltages and currents into the О± ОІ o stationary
reference frames, given by: [в–€(V_0@V_О±@V_О

Saxophone History
The saxophone is a great instrument that has been used all over the world for more than a century.
It brings joy to people through the music that it plays. It is the instrument family that pushed the
Jazz Swing era to be what it was. The soldiers would bring their Military Jazz bands over seas with
them to play for them when they were sitting at base. Other countries started playing jazzmusic
because they heard it and liked it too.
The alto saxophone is in a family of 4 main instruments, but there are a few more that are
uncommon. There is the a soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. There is still the bass, sub contra
bass, and then the contra bass. The alto saxophone has a range of two and a half octaves, so, about
twenty notes. It is played in jazz bands, and on occasions, it is in symphonies. ... Show more content

New needs and tensions will arise in each area of life initiating one to seek new ways of adapting
to these new found stressors. In return this forces them to form different kinds of intimate
relationships. This maturation helps forms one s personality (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002).
Relationships formed during each stage of life serve as a prototype for interactions in later stages.
For this reason, there exists a continuum of relationships formed throughout a lifetime that shape
and mold specific personality traits. Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lawrence
Kohlberg, describe development as a series of stages. A stage is a period in development in which
people exhibit typical behavior patterns and establish particular capacities (Kowalski, amp; Westen,
2002). The various stage theories share three assumptions: First people pass through stages in a
specific order, with each stage building on capacities developed in the previous stage, second stages
most related to one s age, third development is discontinuous, with qualitatively different capacities
emerging in each stage (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Heredity VS. Environment, otherwise
known as the nature vs. nurture debate. Nature relates to the relative importance of an individual s

The Effects Of Social Anxiety On Higher Education
To begin we take a look at two studies that were done on college students and the effects of social
anxiety in higher education, researchers were able to conclude that social anxiety does have an
impact on the wellbeing and success of students in each study. In our first study, students from
Sydney, Australia, were accessed using many psychological tests, scales, and inventories to obtain
scores for accurate study. The topic of the study is Impairments in Goal directed actions that predict
treatment response to cognitive behavioral therapy in social anxiety. The participants who were
involved gave written consent to be a part of this study, and those who were on medications were
properly stabilized before participation began. This study involved showing participants fractal
images of food as a reward to measure goal directed actions in predicting treatment response to
cognitive behavioral therapy (Alvares, G. A., Balleine, B. W., Guastella, A. J. (2014). Anxiety
has
been argued to be related to an inability to process rewarding information appropriately to guide
actions (Alvares, et. al, 2014) and changes in outcome values (Alvares, et.al, 2014). The results
found that those who had a social anxiety disordershowed higher impairments in goal directed
action that predicted poorer response to treatment (Alvares, et.al, 2014). The participants were
given a test of how much a reward affected the outcome of goal directed actions. Those who kept

Never Let Me Go Dialectical Journal
Discovery Journal Writing Never Let Me Go Chapter 10 Kathy recalled, Of course, in practice,
especially during the first months, we rarely stepped beyond the confines of the Cottages. We
didn t even walk about the surrounding countryside or wander into the nearby village. I don t
think we were afraid exactly. Unlike Hailsham, the Cottages have no gates or any form of
barriers that kept confined. I don t understand why Kathy and her friends don t go out to explore.
If it wasn t for the fact that they were afraid, then why don t they venture out? What could be the
reasons for them to refrain from doing so? Gates are mainly designed for two reasons. Some
gates are designed to keep people within the confines; others are designed to keep others from
entering. In Never Let Me Go, it may be kind of hard to tell the difference, sometimes. Fences
and barriers appear all over the novel, but the reasons as to why these gates are designed are not
always apparent to us readers (the typical Kathy style).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the gates go with the last option: to protect the clones from the outside world as well
as to keep them from leaving. However, as they eventually grew older, Kathy and her friends gain
more freedom, physically, that is. The characters exercise freedom by driving, going on several
road trips or adventures. But even with the freedom they gained over time, Kathy and her friends
get the point that there are barriers that you just can t see visually, sometimes. In fact, physical
barriers are actually easier to escape from, unlike the other forms of barricades. At Hailsham, it was
the social barricades that fence in the students their guardians. Whereas at the cottages, it was the
psychological barricades that kept the students away from what was true

Gorbachev Imperialism
Leonid Brezhnev and Mikhail Gorbachev were Soviet leaders in the late 1900s. They had
similarities and differences as leaders. First of all, Brezhnev, a hard nosed communist, cared a lot
about communist countries because the Soviet Union had the right to intervene if communism was
threatened in other communist state. On the other hand, Gorbachev had no intention in communist
countries. A foreign policy under Gorbachev was not very strong. However, the economy in the
Soviet Union under both Brezhnev and Gorbachev was bad. According to Brezhnev, the
government s central planning led to a huge and complex bureaucracy, collective farmers had no
incentive to work hard, and there were high standard of living. Also, under Gorbachev, the
economic issues led to a slow down in the arms race. It tripled the national debt in US and the cost
of maintaining satellite states and an enormous military budget under communism were too high
that they would not afford it. Furthermore, due to the ethnic tensions and allowing non communist
political party to organize, one by one the Soviet Republics voted for independence and finally led
to a fall of communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. 4. The fall of the Soviet Union

The author, Julia Galeota makes three points against cultural imperialism in her essay. The first
point is that many cultures are disappearing due to the overwhelming influence of American
tradition. I refute to this statement because they are just smaller and less influential than American
culture. It is quite exaggerated to say that other cultures are disappearing. For instance, four years
ago, a Korean song called Gangnam Style struck the whole world with its catchy rhythm, dance and
funny music video. It even took second on the Billboard. This shows that other cultures still have a
chance to beat American culture. American culture never stopped other cultures to spread or stand

A Note On Sequential Game
Sequential Game I m currently employed in the health care industry, but before my career
began I worked for a major airline company for 5 years in various roles. Although I ended up
choosing a career in the health care field because of its stability, I still find the airline industry a
valuable and interesting market. To this day, I have many friends and acquaintances that still
are employed within the industry and are involved in contracts negotiations for their respective
companies. From experience and further research, I found two large companies, Boeing and
General Electric (GE) who are two major players in the airplane and parts manufacturing market.
In sequential game, there are two major players in the industry who have a team or an individual
to negotiate terms for competitive pricing and make its best strategic moves or offers based on
the principal conditions. In this game, each player (company) has to wait for their respected
turn to negotiate the best deal with the perfect knowledge of the other player s actions or state
of mind. General Electric sells Boeing 777 s parts to Boeing in its downstream. GE is the first
player to negotiate and may easily influence the outcome of the negotiation. Game Tree In this
game tree, the two player s state of minds and actions are displayed. Consider the case scenario

1980s Music Videos
2.9 MUSIC VIDEOS
One of the most significant musical developments in advertising in the 1980s has been the advent
of music videos. The origin and purpose of music videos is promotional; they are themselves
advertisements. If follows that a good music video, according to the conception of the industry, will
share all of the features which distinguish a good advertisement. (David Huron, 1989)
The videos are entertaining, of course, but entertainment is no longer the goal; it is a tool. Many
broadcasters insert standard advertisements into the music video format, this indicates the power of
music videos not only to promote themselves but to sustain sufficient viewer interest that other
products can be promoted between successive music advertisements.

Beethoven Argumentative Essay
In Vienna, 1822, Christoph and his mother were mourning the death of his father and because they
had no income, Uncle Curt rented out Christoph s fathers old office to none other than Beethoven.
When Beethoven first moved in upstairs, he is constantly disturbing Christoph and Christoph didn t
like it one bit at all, but he wasn t the only one who couldn t stand Beethoven. Whilst not getting on
with Christoph was on thing, fighting daily with Sophie the House Keeper and throwing tantrums
directed at her, they didn t get on the greatest either.

Beethoven began his 9th Symphony and in a matter of weeks started rehearsals, but got extremely
frustrated when his sopranos continuously told him that they couldn t sing the notes he required.
But not just that, but his instrumentalists couldn t play fast enough for his liking and the fact that
he couldn t hear them didn t help his fiery temper.
During one of his rehearsals, Christoph comes in and listens to Beethoven play some of his
composed pieces, and begins to cry from the beauty of it all. Christoph questions why Beethoven
doesn t cry from the beauty of the piece, and Beethoven merely states that Composers don t cry

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biometrics
One major disadvantage of usual authentication techniques, they can t confirm that the demand
identification of user is from the legal owner [11]. Therefore, there was a need for a kind of
technique that can t be forgotten or lost and can identify users based on their unique characteristic
[37]. Biometric is an automated method for easily verifying and recognizing the identity of a living
person based on his physiological or behavioral. Biometricsare excellent candidates for providing an
extra level of security, especially when used in conjunction with traditional methods for
authentication [10].
Generally, most biometric based authentication systems consist of two phases, Enrolment Phase and
Verification Phase Figure 5. In the Enrolment/ Training Phase, users deal with different kind of
sensors depends on the kind of biometric used for authentication system. Those biometric sensors
scan and capture the repeated user s basic login data till finishing the system number of training
sessions for specific number of time to train the system. After that the feature extractor extracts the
features from the scanned biometric data using an algorithm. The feature vector used for
generating a template for each user of the system. This template is encrypted using the public key
obtained from cloud server then send back to cloud server to be stored in the template database for
later use.

Roman Psychological Disorder
Roman 1
There are multiple kinds of psychological disorders and each one affects a person in many
different ways. I chose to write about this topic because I ve always been super curious about
psychological disorders and how they affect certain things about a person, such as their brain,
personality, sleeping patterns, the ability learn, and their life in general. A psychological disorder
reflects psychopathology which is sickness or disorder of the mind and can range from many
different illnesses such as: schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety
disorder, panic disorder, phobia, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder,
personality disorders, antisocial personality disorder, and many more. ... Show more content on

Two weeks is very different from two years. Major depressive disorder affects about 6 percent to 7
percent of Americans in any given year, and approximately 16 percent of Americans will
experience major depression at some point in their lives , and 2 to 3 percent of the population
have persistent depressive disorder, less intense symptoms (Gibson P. 512). Major depression
can last anywhere between weeks to months to even years. Just like schizophrenia depression
has biological factors but instead of environmental factors there are psychological factors.
According to the textbook, there is evidence that shows that major depression involves a lack of
neurotransmitters that help with the regulation of emotion, which is a biological factor (Gibson
P. 513), this is why people with depression have a lack of emotion. They are usually always tired
and unhappy, don t really want to do anything or participate in normal daily activities. The
psychological factors consist of bullying, stress, a death, divorce, or any type of negative event
can push someone to become into a depressive state. Culture and gender also play major roles in
depression. Many more women tend to be diagnosed with depression than men. Developing
countries tend to have more women diagnosed with depression than say countries like the
United States. Depression is a serious psychological problem that sometimes people don t take
serious. Some people even keep to themselves if they experience some sort of depression. For
example, the famous comedian who stared in multiple popular movies, Robin Williams, killed
himself because he was experiencing major depression and no one had a clue. It s so heartbreaking
to see how a psychological disorder can really

The Importance Of A Management Information System
A management information system is a computerized method of improving the efficiency of the
daily activities of businesses as well as improving the decision making process. A management
information system can show the status of a business conditions and whether or not these
conditions are improving or not. The decision making process can only be effective if the
information is updated regularly by those with authority to access this information.
There are very few management information systems that actually work effectively, most not even
meeting expectations. Many management information systems are designed under the basis that
managers have a lack of relevant information, while actually they are receiving too much irrelevant

However, even when given perfect information there are too many variables for even an
experienced individual to give an optimal solution for the problem or objective at hand. Therefore,
to be successful, you must determine how well managers are able to use the information that they
are given.
There are a couple more reasons why MIS tend to fail and meet the expectations of the managers
that are using them. One of these reasons is interdepartmental communication. The author of this
specific article believes that when MIS provide up to date information on what each department in a
business is doing, it negatively affects the performance of the business, contrary to what most
believe. This was implemented into MIS because designers thought that with interdepartmental
communication, decisions can be made more effectively and efficiently, which does sound right at
first. However the author, gives an example of how this system is ineffective and should be
abandoned. He mentions a real life example involving a merchandising department and a
purchasing department in a store. The merchandising department gives the purchasing department
an exact figure on how many items they should buy to be re sold to consumers, based off of a price
demand curve. The purchasing department being slightly pessimistic and not wanting to pay as
much for the merchandise orders a fewer number of items than what the

Functionalism from Classical to Contemporary Theory
Functionalism is a social theory that has its foundations in the birth of the discipline called
sociology (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.05). Angste Comte, considered the founder of sociology, believed
that sociological matters should be explained through scientific study. Functionalism is a method of
study based primary on facts, objectively measured, essentially applying the scientific method to the
study of society, social actions and interactions. Functionalism is interested in the relationships
between systems within society. Functionalism is a top down theory that looks for grand scale
explanations to society. As a sociological theory, Functionalism sees social structure or the
organization of society as more important than the individual.... Show more content on

Parsons pattern variables closely resemble the work by Durkheim on division of labor that makes
individuals dependent upon one another because of the professionalization and specialization of
the labor force. Durkheim was concerned about how the division of labor changed the way that
people felt they were part of society. Durkheim used the terms organic and mechanical societies,
these would also be analogous with Max Weber s traditional and modern society. Parsons pattern
variables were more complex that the concepts by Durkheim in an attempt to better explain social
action between people or groups (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.16). Parsons student, Robert Merton a mid
range theorist contributed to the modernization of sociological functionalism by challenging the
foundational hypotheses of Functionalism that all functions serve a purpose or they fade from
society (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.26). Merton claims that, in a differentiated modern society not all
functions may be relevant to a system s needs or may they provide secondary functions. Merton s
manifest and latent functions indicate that a function that services a primary need in society could
also provide a secondary service. This may be observed in viewing the intended function of
marijuana prohibition. The intended or manifest function of marijuana prohibition is to prevent the
use of a conscious altering substance; the latent function has been the overcrowding of the prisons

  • 3. Revenge And Adultery In Le Morte D Arthur Important reoccurring themes in Le Morte d Arthur are adultery, fate, revenge, people hiding their true identity, (unanswered) love, quests and chivalry HIER OOK. In Le Morte d Arthur adultery is one of the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born because of adultery between his mother Igraine, who was actually married to the duke of Tintagil, and his father King Uther Pendragon. Secondly he commits adultery himself with his sister, King Lot s wife. Their child Mordredwill destroy him at the end of the book and so he is punished for his sin. Thirdly Arthur s wife Guenever commits adultery with one of his knights, Launcelot. Fate is a very eminent theme as well, as the future is often known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he dreams about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case, symbolise destruction and the death of Arthur (NoodГ©n 1992). The white brachet that ran in court with a lady on a palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the brachet was a symbol for love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine or Pellinore, as they are not capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing Beast is an important animal symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt it down, but it seems quite a useless thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests, like when he has to find the lady of the hart and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need. The quest he is doing is made useless because of that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s personality (Dagg ... The company has for a long time served many Americans through their interactive television services, satellite internet access, satellite television and audio programming among others. However much Dish Corporation is in business with a large number of subscribers, it is faced with a myriad of competition from rival firms that offer the same services. The firms that rival Dish Corporation include Comcast Corporation, Time Warner Cable Enterprise and Directv Group holdings. As of the year 2016, Dish Corporation has had more than 13 million subscribers who access their services. For a large organization such as Dish, concrete strategies are required to push rival firms out of business. This essay will center its focus on the key strategies that Dish has adopted over the years to remain in business and at the same time gain competitive advantage. The first key strategy that Dish Corporation has adopted in its quest to gain competitive advantage over its competitors is putting more emphasis on customer focus. Customer focus in the latter perspective represents boosting services such as customer care. In the recent years, the firm has been faced by dwindling financial situations that have almost threatened to knock it out of business. • 5. Midlife Crisis Research Paper Growing up I would hear my mother talking to her friends and saying how my dad was going through a midlife crisis. I would then hear the term again and again in life but I still had no clue what it really meant. Midlife crisis is a term referring to a critical phase in human development during the forties to early sixties, based on the character of change points, or periods of transition. The period is said to vary among individuals and between men and women. So I will break down what happens during this transition in a man and woman s life. I will also discuss what could cause this to happen in ones life. Male midlife crisis is defined by researchers as having a personal turmoil and coping challenges in people brought on by fears and anxieties about growing older. (Lang, S. 2001)This emotional transition will be experience by many men generally between the ages of 45 and 60, but men as young as 40 can also experience it. Men are susceptible to this condition especially if they have had a transition in their life or they have experienced something traumatic. Most men can deal with this process without making any major changes to their lifestyles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A stereotype of woman suffering a midlife crisis is one who is physically unattractive, childless, not interested in sex, menopausal, depressed, irritable, frustrated and intellectually dull. Which are not true females that have a midlife crisis normally are working, have children and are married. Midlife crisis is relatively understudied for women. Initially, it was thought that the causes of midlife crisis for men were also the causes of midlife crisis for women which are not the case. Midlife crisis in women is not an inevitable result of menopausal depression or empty nest syndrome ( Mcquaide, S. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Newspapers can be classified into two types: tabloids and broadsheets. Tabloids are known as the popular press . They are often biased and contain gossips about personalities and are less serious. The sentence structure and vocabulary are simple. Therefore, they are mostly read by the working class with minimum qualifications. In contrast to the tabloids, broadsheets are aimed at more educated audience and are more serious than tabloids. They are read by audience with professional jobs are people educated in the university. Broadsheets cover... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This issue was published on two different newspapers, The Guardian and The Sun . When we look at the content on each article The Guardian has taken the news more serious than The Sun . We can see this in importance given to article in each paper. In The Guardian the news was printed on the first page, whereas, it was printed on the second page of The Sun . The Guardian focuses on the reaction from both sides. It gives us information of the situation and reactions from his opposes as well as from Pinochet s supporters. It also focuses on the on the problems caused to the government due to this historic decision of Jack Straw and the reason for why he is being tried and it also mentions about the legal process. When we look at the article in The Sun it seems to be biased because it only focuses on one side. It doesn t give us much information like The Guardian . It focuses on how the decision affects Pinochet and the responses from his supporters, like Margaret Thatcher and it has no mention about the reactions from the human rights campaigners and the families of the victims. The use of headlines and pictures play a main role in targeting the target audience. The headline in The Guardian article attracts the reader s attention. • 7. Classical Ancient Greece Essay examples The expanse of time that the term Ancient Greece defines is all the way from around 7,250 BCE when the first evidence of burial sites were discovered in Argolid, Greece, during the Mesolithic Period, to around the year 30 BCE when Cleopatra died in Alexandra, Egypt (1). That is the better part of 7,200 years. Trying to fit all of that information into five to seven pages would be nearly impossible. That is why I will be focusing on the Classical Era of Greecewhich spans from about 500 BCE to around 320 BCE. During this time in Greece there were many conflicts and wars, but there was also much growth in the cultural aspects of their society. Imagine walking down the market in Athens. On the left market stalls carrying all types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, for women in poorer families that is not the case. They had to work along side the husband and most time kids out in the fields. They would normally work their, depending on income, from morning until night (3). Then, she would come back to the house and take care of it. Greek homes were really not that fancy. The walls were made with mud brick that were covered in plaster and topped with pottery tiles to make a roof. The windows were not covered so they were pretty much open holes. Poor families had normally one or two rooms while rich families had multi roomed and multi story house. Even though the two classes of people were separated by vast wealth they all had very basic and simple wooden furniture. (3) Even though you can t believe everything you see in movies, you can pretty much trust them to accurately depict the Greek clothing. All but the very rich wore garments made of wool or linen; the very rich had their clothing made from more expensive things like silk or cotton. The garments themselves were also very simple. They were normally rectangular cut pieces of fabric with arm holes cinched at the waste. That was their usual everyday outfit. If men were to travel, they most likely took with them a cloak and wide rimmed hats. Women, again depending on class, wore many different types of jewelry including ... Child Custody Analysis In child custody cases, the legal field approves the methods used by psychologists, yet argues that psychologists must understand that lawyers are trained to work in an adversarial system in which their role is to advocate the client s best interests (Lee, Beauregard, Hunsley, 1998, p.118). With that being said, lawyers in child custody cases are supportive and even encourage psychological involvement in the determination of the child s best interests, yet also argue that it is essential for them to have some knowledge of familylaw. The main purpose of a lawyer is to defend his client regarding of what psychologists have to say. However, they still have a word about the methods used in custody evaluation (Lee et al., 1998,... • 9. The Stereotypes Of Body Image In Society And Culture The bodies seen in the media recently tend to represent extremely prejudiced beauty. Many companies, especially in the fashion industry, value the appearance of the models, and appoint them as a representation of their products. In addition, the models walking the runway at the fashion show and posing in the magazines, are used as a display of beauty to represent the idealized or required thinness and stylish . These are familiar sights in daily life, and obviously, this dazzling world consists of privileged people, and there is no room for marginalized people. As a result, these stereotypical body images are implanted in people s subconsciousnesses, and unknowingly, people try to follow this trend. Also, through these biased images, people define what is normal and what is the gendered role of women in this society. These unrealistic and symbolic body images cause many social problems, and establishes the standard from the view of privileged people, while ignoring the minority people out of the normal frame. This essay explores how the biased body image influences on the current society and culture, and how the marginalized people are categorized in this society. Firstly, in order to grasp the stereotype of the body image, I will discuss about who has the authority to control their gender or the body image. As an example of the socially and culturally established ideal feminine , I want to mention about Barbie doll. Barbie doll has been an object of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet And Luhrmann Films The Comparisons of the 1997, and the 1965 Romeo and Juliet Films Two different actors, Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli, take on the challenge of recreating the William Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet. Some of the comparisons of the two Romeo and Juliet plays, by William Shakespeare, is the dialogue and the colors. For the dialogue both directors use some of the same lines of the William Shakespeareplay. Part fools! Put up our swords; you know not what you do (Act I, Scene i, p. 13). Another comparison between the Zefferelli and the Luhrmann film is, they kept the same names of the characters. • 11. Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening And Desert Places Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Desert Places are complementary works which coincide with the naturesque elements most commonly ascribed to Frost. The two poems were published over a decade apart in a period after the first World War where feelings of lack of community and self worth had grown in precedents amongst the general public. The early years of Frost s literary career were spent on his poultry farm in Derry, New Hampshire as he toiled his land. Although Frost made for a bad farmer and suffered many difficulties and losses, it was during that time when he developed his colloquial style of poetry. Of his numerous works, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Desert Places both share a common wintertime setting and similar, but contrasting, language and themes. From the features that draw on the distinctness between the poems is their linguistic style. In Stopping by Woods , the language used is more rhythmic and sing song like than the gloomy, earnest descriptions portrayed in Desert Places . The duo was also written with four stanzas in iambic meter with similar rhyme schemes, however the difference between the two lies in the verbatim used to illustrate nature as an omnipresent force. In Desert Places , Robert Frost s persona describes the snow as engulfing the landscape, And the ground almost covered smooth in snow /And a few weeds and stubble showing last. (3 4). On the other hand, in Stopping by Woods the snow has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. China s Low Rates Of Air Pollution China, after an economic boom and great success in rapidly expanding in their markets and manufacturing, has become the perfect opposite case example to the United States in recent times. China began its rise to a modern global economic power in the 1980s, but never once had any strong, well enforced environmental regulations until 2013. As unregulated factory and automobile use increased, China s rates of pollution quickly surpassed that of the United States, leaving China much more affected by air pollutionthan the United States in recent times. In China, there is a much higher rate of cardiovascular disease than in the United States due to the high rates of air pollution. In China in 2012, 98% of people have been exposed to small particles that result from burning coal that are known to cause respiratory conditions like asthma and lung cancer as compared to 16% in the United States (Zhang et al 5323). An estimated 1.2 million people die from exposure to outdoor air pollution in China as compared to 200,000 in the United States. Due to recent improvements on enforcement of environmental protection regulations in China, that number is decreasing. (Jiang et al 2). In 2013, more than half of the days out of the year were considered unhealthy or even worse in Chinese cities. • 14. Descriptive Essay On Home Sweet Home Home Sweet Home Everyone dreams about buying his or her dream house; I lost my dream house, twice. When my girlfriend Izzy and I began house searching, it was a whirlwind of excitement. This was our first hunt in the real estate market, and we were ready to close in on the perfect first house. Suddenly we were staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses on Zillow. Throw pillows, dishes and pictures began to jump off the shelves at us in every store we entered. We anxiously imagined every aspect of what we wanted in our house. The rush of chasing down the ideal house and making it our home was thrilling, yet short lived. We were set on a modern ranch style dwelling, farmhouse style for her, and a large garage for me. One day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every bullet point on our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home had a large southern style front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets. The open and light build was perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage complete with a custom peg wall for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the house was the back yard, large and completely fenced in. The storage and build was perfect for me. We knew this was our house; it had to be. As we were standing in the center of the bare living room, our real estate agent s phone began to ring. We ... • 15. The United States Tax Code With the ever increasing complexity of the United States tax code, it has become more important than ever for companies to understand and implement possible tax benefits for the company and its employees. One major benefit that applies to both is employer provided meals. Employer provided meals have become a major topic due to their double sided benefits. These are both tax beneficial to employers, as the meals can be deducted by the business as an expense on its federal income tax return, which reduces the business tax liability. Concurrently, the benefit of the provided meal is excluded from the taxable gross income of the employee, providing the employee with a tax free benefit. After fully understanding the laws related to employer provided meals, a business could begin thinking about implementation of the benefit. Due to the nature of the benefits, there are several sections of applicable tax code that will need to be considered. This comes from the United States Code Title 26, which is the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). The meals are both tax beneficial to a company and its employees. The meals can be deducted by the business as an expense on its federal income tax return, which reduces the tax liability. Employees also receive a benefit from the excludability of the provided meal from their taxable gross income. It is the close of the 19th century and clothes, music and entertainment (to some extent) are changing to keep up with the times. One thing, however, seems to remain the same...the mistreatment and misrepresentation of African American s in society, especially when portrayed through theater. This is clearly evident through the Virginia Minstrel shows and their use of Stock Characters which play on the harsh and demeaning stereotypes society had created about them. Quite sad really, to look back at these shows and understand how popular they were, even though they blatantly demoralized the racethey were depicting. Minstrel shows at this time used what was called Stock Characters . Another attribute is that his speech sounds so illiterate while his sentence structure and wording made him sound unintelligent. Various stories depicted the Zip Coon character as someone who sometimes gets duped into doing a job for someone or flirting with a white woman. Two major points of the manifesto explain how class relationships are defined by an era s means of production. Also, the manifesto incorporates how class struggles, or exploitation of one class by another, are motivating force behind all historical developments. If those two points are not followed then a revolution occurs and a new class emerges as the ruling one. This outcome represents the march of history which is driven by economic variables. The New Jersey And Virginia In May of 1787, individuals from each state assembled in Philadelphia, to transform the United States government into an effective and powerful nation that conducted affairs in workable ways. The delegates meeting at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 were given consent to alter and revise the Articles of Confederation. Except for those from New Jersey and Virginia, the representatives intended to revise the Articles. The primary issue that they resolved was that of State Representation. William Paterson and his associates offered a list of suggestions for revising the Articles of Confederation in his New Jersey Plan. Paterson, a delegate from New Jersey, supported the weak national government that the Articles made. Paterson declared imbalance of the rights of the small states against the large states and wished to expand upon the Articles making a more representative and all around well organized government. Under the Articles, Congress had no way to avert war or to provide for national security against foreign intrusion. The government could not resolve the fight between states, manage interstate exchange, collect taxes, or uphold laws. These shortcomings of the confederation distressed political leaders. Accordingly, they requested an assemblage in order to revise the Articles and restore the fledgling country. • 22. Government Corruption In Nigeria Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially, if a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands to reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty to be threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual securitization of governmental corruption in Nigeriathrough deliberate neglect of malpractices in government and the implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create insecurity, instability, threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an understanding of the issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in securitizing the issue of corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is possible because within government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is a general term covering misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which need not be monetary (Bayley 720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument to comprehend this concept because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences the root of decision making by enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that ... The word culture can mean numerous things to different people around the world. Most of us are who we are today because of the different cultures we have been exposed to over the years through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of the word culture means the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the shared bases of social action (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or view on situations based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I learnt my cultural values and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age, I learnt different ideas and beliefs through friends, community, work and study. About one out of every ten youths is estimated to meet the Substance Abuse and Mental HealthServices Administration (SAMHSA) criteria for a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), (Costello et al, 2005) defined as a mental health problem that has a drastic impact on a child s ability to function socially, emotionally, and academically (Brauner and Stephens, 2006). • 33. The Mystery That Was Jay Gatsby The Mystery that was Jay Gatsby I carry on a little business on the side, a sort of sideline, you understand (Fitzgerald 87). In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this is the closest Jay Gatsby comes to revealing how he actually made his fortune. And even here, he doesn t reveal much, but Nick Carraway assumes it s something illegal when Gatsby goes on to say, It happens to be a rather confidential sort of thing (Fitzgerald 88). Gatsby is a mysterious man. Because he is evasive and even untruthful about his life and wealth, everyone around Gatsby makes up their own stories about him. Gatsby s background is so unfathomable, it is speculated that he acquired his money by playing a part in illegal activities including fixing the 1919 World Series and Prohibition. Jay Gatsby s is a rags to riches story that on the surface appears to be the fulfillment of the American Dream. Born James Gatz, he comes from the Midwest, specifically North Dakota. His parents were unsuccessful farmers. He was determined to be leave poverty behind. He first became the personal assistant of Dan Cody, who he happened to meet on Lake Superior. Cody gave him his first taste of wealth, and he liked it. They traveled around the world three times and stayed together for five years. After Cody died, Gatsby went into the military. It was a bit embarrassing that after lifting weights for the preceding four months we were still winded by the moderate size hill. We took a break half way up but this was no wasted break. I found an opening off the path and noticed a Koa treeabout three feet high. Then I turned to Mikey and said, this is the reason we came up here. Is that a Koa tree? I walk over, thank the plant, and pick a couple of leaves from it. I then ripped each leaf in half and began to bundle up the bottles and tie them together. Two bundles were easier to carry than four bottles so we carried them to the fork in the trail and left them there until we got back from our journey. We were back on track, making our way down the left route. I was hopeful but discouraged for the first couple hundred feet, with Mikey taking the lead pointing at every different plant asking Is that a Koa tree? I rebuttal by saying, we literally saw one like ten minutes ago. To no surprise his curiosity or his inner child proceeded with the questions. One tree exposed itself after the other until it seemed as all the trees bordering the trail became Koa trees. I was dragging my jaw on the floor as I slowly walked under the chattering giants all wearing orange coats around their trunks. • 36. Parker s Back by Flannery O Connor To the uninitiated, the significance of Flannery O Connor s Parker s Back can seem at once cold and dispassionate, as well as almost absurdly stark and violent. Her short stories routinely end in horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a character s emotional devastation. Flannery O Connor is a Christian writer, and her work is message oriented, yet she is far too brilliant a stylist to tip her hand; like all good writers, crass didacticism is abhorrent to her. Unlike some more cryptic writers, O Connor was happy to discuss the conceptual and philosophical underpinnings of her stories, and this candor is a godsend for the researcher that seeks to know what makes the writer tick. Flannery O Connor put much conscious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For me, the most chilling aspect of the story is the description of a prophetic water stain above Asbury s bed: Thematic Elements This concept of displacement runs throughout O Connor s work, and it is essentially a displacement from the world of the one true God, a theological displacement, although within the context of the story it is more social, based on the nature of the freak s position in the society. Very often, the grotesque elements of O Connor s stories are balanced out by anagogical ones. Again, the latter are not specifically symbols, for symbols work contextually to represent interactive story elements, whereas O Connor s anagogical elements are just there, they wander in and out of the action; they may have symbolic significance, but it never comes directly into play as a plot element. Facing death is another thematic element that recurs often in O Connor, for obvious reasons, both personal and religious. 23 O Connor admits as much herself, in an essay in which she discusses A Good Man is Hard to Find: The heroine of the story, the Grandmother, is in the most significant position life offers the Christian. She is facing death. 24 This last quote speaks volumes; it is probably the single most significant and telling remark the student of Flannery O Connor can have in his attempt to understand her work. • 37. Theme Of Alienation In Richard Cory In these three stories we have three different characters who are cast outs and seem to stray away from the world around them. The difference in these three characters is that they each have a certain way they express this theme of loneliness and alienation. To figure out why these characters appeal to us, like so, takes a more psychological bearing into their well being and how they think. With the Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner acted like a hypocrite and the author made sure to point out his hypocrisy, be it implied or expressed in the story. Chaucer was one of the very few who had the courage to criticize church officials in his lifetime, and it shows that he had a swell time doing it as well. That is why Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, viewed religion and church officials as a joke because he made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue, was more meticulous towards religious characters on the topic of religion, and pointed out the hypocrisy of the Pardoner s morals in his character description and in the Pardoner s Tale. Chaucer made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue. One of the very first church officials in the prologue is the Nun. They are also added to food and drink to make it appear more appealing to consumers. However, when used improperly, food dyes can be dangerous. As a result, the use of color additives is highly regulated by the FDA the Food and Drug Administration in the Unites States.1 Food dyes are controlled so harshly because their structure is similar to that of some of the bases found in human DNA, and the dye could possibly cause a change a DNA base pair. A mutation is a change in a small part of the DNA sequence of a cell which can then replicate, spreading the mutation. Mutations often lead to various diseases such as cancer. 2 The FDA will only approve the use of a coloradditive if they are certain beyond a reasonable doubt that the dye is safe, but the safety of the dye can never be proven entirely. For example, the dye yellow5 is used in food, cosmetics, and medicines.3 However, some people will have an allergic reaction to this product despite it being deemed safe to use. For this reason, the FDA also requires that any companies using a color additive in their products must list it on the label so that people sensitive to the substance can avoid it. 1 Despite any potential health concerns people may have, food dyes play an important role in the consumer market place. Harmonic Compensation by PV-STATCOM For emolument of current harmonics (if any), the instantaneous resoluteness of different active and reactive powers is utilized the active and reactive powers are computed utilizing p q theory. No restrictions are imposed on the voltage or current wave forms, and it can be applied to three phase systems with or without a neutral wire for three phase generic voltage and current wave forms. Thus, it is valid not only in steady state, but withal in transient states. The p q Theory first transforms voltages and currents from the a b c to О± ОІ o coordinates, and then defines instantaneous power on these coordinates. Hence, this theory always considers the three phase system as a unit, not a superposition or sum of three single phase circuits. The p q Theory utilizes the О± ОІ o transformation, additionally kenned as the Clarke transformation, which consists of an authentic matrix that transforms three phase voltages and currents into the О± ОІ o stationary reference frames, given by: [в–€(V_0@V_О±@V_О І )]=в€ љ3/2 [в– (1/в€ љ2 1/в€ љ2 1/в€ љ2@1 1 /в€ љ2 1/в€ љ3@0 в€ љ3/2 в€ љ3/2)][в–€(V_a@V_b@V_c )] [в –€(i_L0@i_LО±@i_LО І )]=в€ љ3/2 [в– (1/в€ љ2 1/в€ љ2 1/в€ љ2@1 1/в€ љ2 1/в€ љ3@0 в€ љ3/2 в€ љ3/2)][в–€(i_La@i_Lb@i_Lc )] By utilizing the О± ОІ o transformation the zero sequence component can be disunited from the a b c phase components. Major depressive disorder affects about 6 percent to 7 percent of Americans in any given year, and approximately 16 percent of Americans will experience major depression at some point in their lives , and 2 to 3 percent of the population have persistent depressive disorder, less intense symptoms (Gibson P. 512). Major depression can last anywhere between weeks to months to even years. Just like schizophrenia depression has biological factors but instead of environmental factors there are psychological factors. According to the textbook, there is evidence that shows that major depression involves a lack of neurotransmitters that help with the regulation of emotion, which is a biological factor (Gibson P. 513), this is why people with depression have a lack of emotion. They are usually always tired and unhappy, don t really want to do anything or participate in normal daily activities. The psychological factors consist of bullying, stress, a death, divorce, or any type of negative event can push someone to become into a depressive state. Culture and gender also play major roles in depression. Many more women tend to be diagnosed with depression than men. Developing countries tend to have more women diagnosed with depression than say countries like the United States. Depression is a serious psychological problem that sometimes people don t take serious. Some people even keep to themselves if they experience some sort of depression. For example, the famous comedian who stared in multiple popular movies, Robin Williams, killed himself because he was experiencing major depression and no one had a clue. It s so heartbreaking to see how a psychological disorder can really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Importance Of A Management Information System A management information system is a computerized method of improving the efficiency of the daily activities of businesses as well as improving the decision making process. A management information system can show the status of a business conditions and whether or not these conditions are improving or not. The decision making process can only be effective if the information is updated regularly by those with authority to access this information. There are very few management information systems that actually work effectively, most not even meeting expectations. Many management information systems are designed under the basis that managers have a lack of relevant information, while actually they are receiving too much irrelevant ... However, even when given perfect information there are too many variables for even an experienced individual to give an optimal solution for the problem or objective at hand. Therefore, to be successful, you must determine how well managers are able to use the information that they are given. There are a couple more reasons why MIS tend to fail and meet the expectations of the managers that are using them. One of these reasons is interdepartmental communication. The author of this specific article believes that when MIS provide up to date information on what each department in a business is doing, it negatively affects the performance of the business, contrary to what most believe. This was implemented into MIS because designers thought that with interdepartmental communication, decisions can be made more effectively and efficiently, which does sound right at first. However the author, gives an example of how this system is ineffective and should be abandoned. He mentions a real life example involving a merchandising department and a purchasing department in a store. The merchandising department gives the purchasing department an exact figure on how many items they should buy to be re sold to consumers, based off of a price demand curve. The purchasing department being slightly pessimistic and not wanting to pay as much for the merchandise orders a fewer number of items than what the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Functionalism from Classical to Contemporary Theory Functionalism is a social theory that has its foundations in the birth of the discipline called sociology (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.05). Angste Comte, considered the founder of sociology, believed that sociological matters should be explained through scientific study. Functionalism is a method of study based primary on facts, objectively measured, essentially applying the scientific method to the study of society, social actions and interactions. Functionalism is interested in the relationships between systems within society. Functionalism is a top down theory that looks for grand scale explanations to society. As a sociological theory, Functionalism sees social structure or the organization of society as more important than the individual.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parsons pattern variables closely resemble the work by Durkheim on division of labor that makes individuals dependent upon one another because of the professionalization and specialization of the labor force. Durkheim was concerned about how the division of labor changed the way that people felt they were part of society. Durkheim used the terms organic and mechanical societies, these would also be analogous with Max Weber s traditional and modern society. Parsons pattern variables were more complex that the concepts by Durkheim in an attempt to better explain social action between people or groups (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.16). Parsons student, Robert Merton a mid range theorist contributed to the modernization of sociological functionalism by challenging the foundational hypotheses of Functionalism that all functions serve a purpose or they fade from society (Adams Sydie, 2002 p.26). Merton claims that, in a differentiated modern society not all functions may be relevant to a system s needs or may they provide secondary functions. Merton s manifest and latent functions indicate that a function that services a primary need in society could also provide a secondary service. This may be observed in viewing the intended function of marijuana prohibition. The intended or manifest function of marijuana prohibition is to prevent the use of a conscious altering substance; the latent function has been the overcrowding of the prisons in the ...
