Edward R. Murrow Analysis
1. Why did the public acclaim for Edward R. Murrow s World War II radio broadcasts help his
controversial Radulovich and McCarthy TV programs, and How were the economic vulnerabilities of
commercial TV exploited by President Lyndon B. Johnson in order to create a surprise news event that
interfered with Fred Friendly s live coverage of the 1966 U.S. Senate Hearings on Vietnam?
Edward R. Murrow is a universally recognized, courageous news broadcaster who brought stories to
life through radio and television programs. He developed the term broadcast journalism, earning
creditability with his eyewitness coverage of the London bombing which gave him the public acclaim
As Kendrick noted, he was recognized as a proficient debater, and preferred the spoken word, never
having been a writing journalist (Kendrick, p.214).
Murrow worked for CBS as an American radio news correspondent covering World War II. He
experienced first hand the Blitz on London, the bombing of the city by the Germans on September 7,
1940. Late nights or early mornings, Murrow constantly broadcast in London. He lived on coffee and
cigarettes, Janet, Murrow s wife, remembered (Kendrick, p. 202). He ... Show more content on

his broadcasts. His broadcast was made in a hoarse tremulous voice that broke into sobbing at one
point, under the burden of emotion, fatigue and nerve wracking strain (Kendrick, p. 208). Murrow
reported for months all the activity that was happening in the British Isles to American listeners
(Kendrick, p.213). Murrow broadcasted from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow

Discuss How Veronica Is Portrayed and to What Extent the...
Veronica is a young but unique character who is carefully crafted in this story by Adewale Maja
Pearce who evokes emotions of sympathy towards her in a distinctive way; Veronica is not a woman
who fits in with the stereotypical idea of a woman from the village, she does not seem to care that
there is no hope for a better life or the future. This is perhaps the main reason why we as readers feel
more sympathy towards Veronica as opposed to Mathilde in The Necklace; her almost inhuman ability
to simply accept everything that is thrown at her. Mathilde is directly opposite to Veronica in the way
that she behaves: Veronica accepts her unlucky situations and Mathilde complains and makes her life
worse.
Initially, the writer introduces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer creates an overwhelming sense of shock in Okeke as he discovers the squalor of the
village. The place was crawling with disease and everybody was living surviving rather in acute
poverty . The use of the metaphor, crawling with disease provides an image of bacteria literally
crawling and creeping through the village infecting people, resulting in sympathy from the reader. The
use of the subordinate clause puts an emphasis on and further describes the state in which people were
barely living in. Maja Pearce creates sympathy for Veronica by describing the surroundings that
Veronica had to endure to survive. People like us, living in Africa can relate to these conditions
because Malawi is a poor country and we understand the way these people have to live.
Veronica is depicted as a woman who accepts any situation, downfall or calamity that comes her way.
She speaks without bitterness at the things she does not have. They are my family, that is enough even
after her family treated her badly and left her. Veronica exceeds all stereotypes of selfless people.
Instead of being ashamed or unhappy with her situation like Mathilde, she embraces her fate.
Speaking without bitterness implies that Veronica is not affected by what people do or say to her
creating sympathy for her. The reader also feels respectful towards Veronica as she keeps her dignity
throughout the whole story and her life.

Wrong For Eskimo
The presented passage makes a few claims which states that There is no moral standard that applies to
all human beings. The second claim the passage makes is that, there are different cultures. The third
claim the passage makes is that, what morality would apply to androids that were exactly like humans
except they were made of silicone and metal? The support the author uses for the first claim is that, we
are all different in lots of ways, so how could any two people believe in exactly the same morality?
What s right for you isn t right for me, and vice versa. His/her support for the second claim suggest

Using my ancestral background and my country of origin as the basis for my claim, I am going to

call an adult by their given name. I would have to refer to them as uncle or auntie and then insert their
name. It is disgraceful for a younger person to call adults by their name. The reason is that the culture
dictates that you are not on equal grounds or have earned the right to call them on their real name. In
America it is okay to refer to someone regardless of age by their given name. Another difference is
chivalry. As time progresses humans forget to be polite to one another. I was brought up to say, good

interrupting and cursing in public or at parents. Today these rules do not apply to others because they

Essay on Triangular Trade
We as a world together have been through a lot of changes and made a lot of advances over the past
couple of centuries. Many have argued about the outcome of the European expansion on the Americas.
Some people feel that the Europeans had both a positive and negative impact on the expansion;
however, the negative impact gave a devastating result, which would continue to change history for
almost four hundred years. The Europeans were manipulative towards to indigenous people of the
Americas. They exploited them, using them as their personal slaves. Most importantly, they silently
murdered the Natives by introducing them to diseases such as the measles and smallpox.
Consequently, a small pox epidemic was caused, which resulted in the ... Show more content on

Other goods, including guns were also sold to the African dealers, which facilitated their obtaining
more slaves. The shipment of the African slaves were brought from Senegambia, Sierra Leone, the
Windward Coast, Gold Coast and the Bight of Benin. They belonged to several tribes and several
language groups along some coast of Africa. A typical idea believed by the English planters was that
the African slaves did not hold to a system of beliefs that could be seen as a religion. The members of
the plantation and the church that served them felt, their beliefs amounted to nothing more than
heathenish superstition. But the Africans held religious beliefs derived from their homeland. It may be
useful to note that some of the slaves, particularly these who came from the Fula speaking area of
Senegambia, were Muslims. The Europeans not only expanded their land and economy they were also
expanding their minds with new ways of thinking such as Enlightenment . Major ideas of the actual
18th century Enlightenment had a lot to do with democratic ideals, a reduced influence of Christian
Church doctrine in government, and overall progress of humankind. The Enlightenment was the
product of a vast set of cultural and intellectual changes in Europe during the 1500s and 1600s
changes that in turn produced the social values that permitted the Enlightenment to sweep through
Europe in the late 1600s and 1700s. One of the most important of these changes was the

Benefit Of Technology Essay
The Abundant Benefits of Technology
On a daily basis, both businesses and individuals rely on technology. It cannot be denied that
technology has become part of our everyday life, as individuals we all depend on technology, either
for education, health purposes, transportation, communication, romantic relationships, and business
growth . It is impossible to explore how each advancement in technology has impacted our lives as
well as how it will impact the future. Technology impacts the environment, people individually, and
the society as a whole.
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further
predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, we can also research any desired topic on our
smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today s schools has been utterly momentous.
Educators have now seen firsthand the benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study
by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators think that technology has a
positive impact on the education process. Educators also recognize the importance of developing these
technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate. By
incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life
outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with
students learn. Teachers are learning how to teach with emerging

Mississippi is a strategic location for the defense industry and military operations. Mississippi has had
a presence in the defense industry since World War I, and has kept its heavy pro military presence in
the state since. Mississippi provides the defense industry with various military testing, training, and

what Mississippi has to offer.
After the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I in 1957, President John F. Kennedy s responded to

Benjamin Banneker Rhetorical Analysis
Benjamin Banneker s Letter to Thomas Jefferson Rhetorical Analysis Being respectful and thoughtful,
Benjamin Banneker addresses the issue of slavery. Throughout the letter, where the son of former
slaves writes to Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Banneker reasons African Americans are equal to white
men, and refers to the mistreatment of slaves by Americans in order to argue that slavery is morally
wrong. First, Benjamin Banneker reasons African Americans are equal to white men in order to argue
that slavery is morally wrong. For example, through the repetition of the word the Sir , Banneker not
only shows respect towards Thomas Jefferson, but portrays himself as someone knowledgeable. This
helps Banneker argue that is slavery is morally wrong because it shatters the notion of African
Americans being inferior to white people due to Banneker, who is an African American, writing a
letter in a dignified manner. Also, it helps the argument by appealing to Thomas Jefferson s ego and
sense of worth. The repetition of sir makes it more difficult for Jefferson to become angry at Banneker
for being insolent because it doesn t antagonize Jefferson, but recognizes the difference in authority
and position between Banneker and Jefferson while showing that Banneker himself, who is an African
American, is capable and educated. Through sentences ... you have mercifully received and that is the
peculiar blessing of heaven , blessings to which you were entitled by nature , and ... benevolence of
the Father of mankind and of equal and impartial distribution of those right... Mr. Banneker appeals to
Jefferson through religion. This religious appeal aids the argument that slavery is wrong because it
works as the premise to a syllogism; God has made all men equal, African Americans and white
people are men, so they are equal. For Jefferson to dispute this argument, he would have to defy the
premise of his own Declaration of Independence ( We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men
are create equal... ) which would mean the loss of the justification Americans had to declare
independence from Great Britain. Also, Banneker speaks to Jefferson s own values as a religious man
by arguing that he is opposing God s goodwill in the

Cause And Effect Of A Gunshot Wound Be Treated With...
Illness We tend to think of every medically treatable condition as an illness, and every illness as a
medically treatable condition; and that is just not the case. There are many physical factors that
detrimentally affect our health: disease, infection, genetics, diet, injury, exhaustion, accidents, poison,
warfare, pollution, heredity, birth defects, and more. All of these can be considered the cause of an
unhealthy condition; but none of them are an illness. A bullet is bad for one s health, but no one is
suggesting that a gunshot wound is an illness or a disease. [Though, some community activists would
call gun violence a social sickness.] No one is suggesting that a gunshot wound be treated with
affirmations and prayer. [But, there are often prayer vigils and church services that aim to put an end
to shooting incidents.] During recovery from a gunshot wound there may be difficulties that could
properly be called illness. We could properly consider the person in recovery to not yet be well.
Affirmation and prayer may be effective at this point, in re establishing a state of well being. Though
studies have not shown that this affects one s physical recovery, an increased sense of wellness is, by
definition, of benefit to their health. Holmes properly uses the term illness when recommending a
course of spiritual mind treatment; but it would be a mistake to think that every condition can be
treated in this way. Not every condition that requires treatment is an

The Main Determinants Of Fdi
Investment opportunities in Romania. Main determinants of FDI attractiveness in the country
1. Abstract
It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by foreign
investors. Investing in emerging markets is risky on the one hand, but can offer attractive returns on
the other hand. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the Former Soviet
Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living standards and has lowered
the level of poverty (World Bank, 2008). One of the new attractive destinations preferred by investors
is the Black Sea area and specifically Romania. However, by having been closely linked to the other

To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm to
invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of this
paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of 23
years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness.
2.2. Social and economic change
Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs
together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for
obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become extremely
supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open new
branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008).
First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a
well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise sector,
as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth possibilities,
the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement.
In 1990, the country went through a revolution in 1989 and since then, it has faced significant change.
Its official switch from a communist state was completed in 2007 when Romania adhered to the
European Union.

Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany
Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men
had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their
nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even
though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts
on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian
victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a
Prussian victory.
Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is
Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of
Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning
monarchy. He was not born as the heir to the Bonaparte claim to the French throne, but the premature
death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to
claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which
failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to

Toyota And Its Impact On The United States
Overview of the Decision:
In 2012, Suzuki faced the question of whether or not to continue selling automobiles in the
United States. This decision could not have been an easy one. Doubtless it took many days of
weighing the pros and cons, looking at data, consulting experts to come to the ultimate decision to
discontinue selling new automobiles in the United States. The ultimate decision was a good decision
based on many facts about the state of
Suzuki
in the US. The amount of

to only 21,000 in 2012
,
the number of dealerships was falling along with the number of vehicles sold, Suzuki s partnership
with GM collapsed in 2009, new EPA standards were disproportionately negatively affecting makers
of small cars (Suzuki s main product
), competition from other automakers was growing much more intense which led to a market share of
just 0.2% of the
US
automobile industry in 2012
(Berkowitz, 2012)
, and to add further challenges to the US automobile division of Suzuki, a str ong yen was further
hurting the J apanese based manufacturer
(Takahashi, 2012)
.
For these reasons, as well as a desire to pursue much more promising opportunities elsewhere in the
world, Suzuki made the decision to discontinue selling automobiles in the US, though the company
would stay in the United

Analysis Of One Art By Elizabeth Brishon
Elizabeth Bishon s poem One Art explores the universal experience of loss through enacting a
structured, post modern villanelle, which utilizes parody through understatement and disobeying the
rigid structure of a villanelle. The speaker s strategy is revealed through the structural form as well as
the play of language through the speaker s discourse, implications, and ordering. The poem s linguistic
contributions help perform the speaker s poetic purpose. Before entering into the structural form of the
poem, understanding the speaker s motivations can assist in perceiving the reason for choosing the
structure of a villanelle. The speaker appears to be a woman who, perhaps, recently lost a lover. The
final stanza introduces an apostprophé, you, revealing the speaker s motivation for writing. Even
losing you, she says, provides evidence that the art of losing s not too hard to master (16, 15.) The
purpose of the poem builds up to the final stanza, with a litotes understating the severity of loss in an
ironic sentiment, saying, Even losing you...I shan t have lived. It s evident / the art of losing s not too
hard to master (18.) The speaker narrows the focus of the poem till she directly addresses the
addressee, employing humor the soften the hurt of such a loss that may look like...disaster (19.) The
tone of the speaker significantly shifts in the sixth stanza, seen in the intimacy of the loss losing you,

Kolin although procedures and instructions are different. An introduction should make the reader feel
comfortable and well prepared before getting into policies so that they are more inclined to accept,
approve or follow the policies. By just saying here s what you need to do , this email s introduction is
too straight forward, direct and has a demanding tone. Using the right style and tone is needed to
turning the policy into effective action. Kolin states that deleting you will not be discourteous as it
would be in a business letter or business report. To set commands in this email the writer should have

For developing countries with a weaker economic foundation, it is not only a chance but also a risk.
Moreover, the climate change also has an effect on the energy supply. The original energy sources
used for production and living, such as wood and coal, release a great amount of greenhouse gases
when it is being burnt, and inevitably cause the aggravation of the climate. In roder to avoid this from
continuing, new energy sources are explored and start to being used. Known as a kind of clean air
energy, the nuclear energy has greater value than any kinds of fossil fuels. This type of power could

Finally, the government plays an important role in protecting the climate. To prevent the climate from

been told many times, and the many different and vastly varied representations of her and her story are
solely based on the ways in which men and society have perceived women and their role in society
throughout history. By looking at the perceptions of women starting from the Hellenes, the Greeks
who greatly influenced Roman ideals, and following those perceptions through to the end of the 19th

Retelling a speech that he believes Octavian may have said to his soldiers he writes: [w]e Romans are
the rulers of the greatest and best parts of the world and yet we find ourselves spurned and trampled
upon by a [woman] of Egypt… (52). He continues with Roman propaganda retelling the great
accomplishments of Roman forefathers and then stresses that the men who have achieved these feats
of arms…would be cut to the heart if ever they knew that we have been overcome by this pestilence
of a [woman]… (53). He verbally attacks the Egyptian culture and drives home his dislike of them
and their barbarisms by saying worst of all, they are not ruled by a man, but are the slaves of a
[woman] (53). In conclusion he writes:
But, in the end, I cannot describe to you any greater prize that that of upholding the renown which
your forefathers won, of preserving the proud tradition of your native lands, of punishing those who
have rebelled against us, of conquering and ruling over all mankind, and [of allowing no woman to
make herself equal to a man] (55).
The dislike of women in positions of power and the absolute necessity to deprive them of this power
can be seen in Dio s writing. Dio stresses Cleopatra s gender and makes it the supreme motivator for
the ensuing war with Egypt by the marking the importance of conquering Cleopatra and removing her
from her throne.
Cleopatra s political power is further reduced in the

Being safe and secure could attract employees seeking employment. The advantage of this is that it
reduce risks of accidents among inexperienced employees, to attract qualified applicants and retailers

In addition, recruitment and training could also be address. Recruitment and training ensures that
employees are up to standard when delivering services and producing quality products. One advantage
is that this new recruits are available during shortage of labour which could help in the ease of demand
in sales. One disadvantage is that it is expensive to run such initiatives.
Moreover, increasing wages and giving bonuses is another strategy retailers could use. This initiatives
could attract unemployment s and could also motivate current employees to give their best in
delivering goods and services. The advantage is that employees deliver better services and also they
could know that they are recognized for their work and will not look for other jobs available. One
disadvantage is that when such crisis happens again this workers may demand for their salaries to
increase and if is not met they would seek other jobs available which could lead to labour shortage. It
is better to give sound allowances and increments to individual employees so that they know that their

Fordham Research Paper
The meaning of the Jesuit tenet Magis is essential in the quest for self actualization. It is the duty of all
to become the best version of themselves that they can possibly be, no matter what the area of growth
is in. Personally, I want a college experience that challenges the person that I am now, and helps me to
grow by the way of academics and knowledge, learning to be a contributing member of society as an
adult, and becoming more cultured. I believe with a life at Fordham University, I can take steps
towards achieving this and so much more.
College is the catalyst for knowledge expansion. Although all undergraduate institutions offer this,
none of them offer classes in the way Fordham University does. Specifically, what is salient to me is

The Earthquake Of Central Nepal
1. Introduction A Mw7.8 earthquake struck the Gorkha region of central Nepal on the 25th April 2015
(11:56 am local time). The initial tremor was followed by a series of Mw 6 aftershocks including a
Mw7.3 event on the 12th May 2015. Together, this series of earthquakes have been termed the Gorkha
earthquake sequence (Collins and Jibson, 2015). The Mw7.3 aftershock killed an estimated 160
people, which is in addition to a ~8,600 death toll for the main Mw7.8 event (Kargel et al., 2016). Up
to 6% of these deaths were attributed to the secondary hazard of landsliding (CEDIM, 2015). The
advent of satellite imagery coupled with Geographic Information Systems has enabled the quick
mapping of earthquake induced landsliding (Xu et al., 2013). ... Show more content on

Consequently, in future hazard surveys remote sensing could identify the land characterises of
landslides in cloud free areas and use this data to direct traditional methods of field data collection (i.e.
helicopters) to hot spots of greater landslide susceptibility. This report will explore and test this
hypothesis using a large landslide dataset collected during the Gorkha earthquake series , Nepal, 2015.
1.1. Study area
Nepal is situated on the Himalayan arc where the Indian plate subducts the Eurasian plate at a
convergence rate of ~20 mm yr 1 (Goda and Jibson., 2015). Nepal is classified as a less developed
country where landsliding severely stunts its development (Petley et al., 2006). With reference to Fig.
1 this report has limited the study area to the (7) districts: Dhading, Dolakha, Gorkha, Lamjung,
Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Sindhupalcho. Together these districts have a total land area of 14,564 km2
(representing ~10% of Nepal proper) with an elevation range 189 m to 7,922 m. Within this study area
n=4,201 landslides occurred as a result of the Mw7.8 and Mw7.3 events. The study area spans the
middle high Himalaya where population is relatively low and sparsely distributed (Kargel et al.,

The s Present And Past History During The Time Of The...
Give me liberty or give me death. This quote was spoken by Patrick Henry. This paper will discuss
Massachusett s present and past history during the time of the Revolutionary War; as well as the
causes of the war, Sons of Liberty, and important battles. Boston was where the action began. It began
with taxes being raised, acts being made, such as the Stamp act. They were upset because legislature
was taxing the Americans without a representative for the people(Bomboy). British forces arriving
was another cause. Then, the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre occurred. Key figures and
leaders came forward, such as Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock and they started calling
for action(Sword She Seeks Under Liberty). Meanwhile in Worcester, political control was with the
Americans, but the court was under control of the British. The British were attempting to regain
control by marching on the courthouse where the citizens were gathered. The citizens held the British
forces back but later were afraid that without protecting the courthouse at night, the British would take
control of the courthouse, then take their tools, livestock, or farms as punishment and this sent people
into more disarray. Tensions were escalating between people, so reasonable patriots called for a
meeting of several counties that were involved in this. Meanwhile, British General Thomas Gage
decided that he would hold the troops in Worcester at the time. He would take the Courthouse back

How Was Mendoza Able To Transcend His Violent Nature
I think that the Jesuits were right in establishing the missions by keeping the real power in their own
hands. By keeping the power, they are able to support the right of the Indians for justice with their
lives.
Was the character Mendoza able to transcend his violent nature?
The character Mendoza was able to transcend his violent nature. He was violent at the beginning and
killed many people, including his brother. He has avoided violence ever since he climbed the falls.
However, he returned to his violent nature when he decides to protect the mission militarily, which
goes against Father Gabriel s and God s wishes. Ultimately, he was able to transcend his violent nature
because he chose to help the native child rather than initiating the trap on the enemy.

before he came to the priest. As the priest explains, he sees Mendoza as a coward who runs away from

guilt to the church, where he is trying to die from starvation. He first shows determination and
willingness to make a change in his life and obtain absolution for his actions when he attempts to
climb the fall with a bundle of weapons. He built a friendship with the natives. He no longer believed
in violence after his brother s death. As opposed to his character who killed natives in the beginning of
the movie, the character he is after his climb could not kill the pig that was in the forest. Although
Mendoza continued to kill people after, he did it to defend the natives, which shows he has grown to

Discussion Of Abraham s Argument Against Pharoah In...
In the readings about Sarah, Abraham requests of her that she claims to be his sister. In Genesis 12
when they go to Egypt this occurs. Abraham s request of this to Sarah demonstrates a way of men
viewing women more as property than as people because Abraham was worried about other men s
desires for his wife and willingness to kill him to win her. Abraham does not seem particularly
bothered that Pharaoh claims Sarah while they are there, but then God uses his power against Pharaoh
for being involved with Sarah, so Abraham s lack of action could represent his strength in his faith that
God would do what was best for him.

How Did Frank Sinatra Impact The Music Industry
Chapter Three: Sinatra and his Impact on the Music Industry The third and final way that Frank
Sinatra influenced popular music was through setting new trends within the music industry, which
continue today. The industry acquired two trends which later became the mainstream: the first was the
decision for a vocalist to start a solo career, and the second being the popularization of the American
Popular Songbook. The Chairman of the Board, as Sinatra was commonly known, decided to start his
solo career in 1942, after a brief period singing with Harry James and the Tommy Dorsey Band. Many
well known singers preceded him, such as Billy Holiday and Bing Crosby. None of these performers,
however great, led completely self sufficient careers of their own. Gardner attests that Sinatra s
success cemented the notion of the interpretive singer as an autonomous musician in service to the
song but also owning it, at least for the duration of the performance . Given the type of personality he
possessed, this was not surprising. Frank had the street smarts , the intelligence, drive, and talent to
sustain a solo career. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Issues of the Seventies Essay
The 1970s can be best understood as a transitional period in America. Starting in the 1950s, the power
of the youth was on the rise, through civil rights activism and anti war protests. This decade s ideal
citizen seemed to be the person helping others. Then the 1980s are more financially centered and
individualistic. This decade s ideal citizen is the one who measured success by how much money they
made. The 1970s proved to be a time of bitterness, cynicism, and increased interest in one s self for
most of the people in America. Some of the events that contributed to this were the Kent State
Massacre, Roe v. Wade, and the economic stagflation that happened in the latter part of the decade.

The events at Kent State were a catalyst that helped strengthened the American Citizens hatred of the
Vietnam War and distrust in the Government that promised to end the war. The case of Roe vs. Wade
was an example of an individual s rights and privacy against long held doctrines based on religious
beliefs. In 1973, a woman by the name of Norma L. McCorvey, using an alias of Jane Roe, was single
and living in Texas. She got pregnant and wanted an abortion, but it was illegal. The case eventually
made its way to the United States Supreme Court. The Court recognized in a 7 to 2 decision that the
Constitutional right to privacy should include a person s choice to terminate their pregnancy. This case
became not known as one of a person s right to privacy, but rather the case that legalized abortion
(Roe v. Wade). This case, in some ways, is not only about abortion, but it also illustrates the effects of
the feminist movements throughout the country. After this landmark decision of the Supreme Court, a
woman could now choose if and when to have children. No longer was sex only socially acceptable
for married couples ready to procreate. Another event that made a woman s position in American
society more independent was the economic recession, sometimes referred to as a stagflation, which
occurred during the middle to late part of the 1970s. Stagflation is a term in economics that describes a

Australian concise oxford dictionary, 6th edition, is The act of imparting, esp. news (p. 280). While
interpersonal is defined as Occurring between persons, esp. reciprocally (p. 738). Therefore,
interpersonal communication can be used to describe the way we communicate in small groups. To

In her TEDx talk, 10 ways to have a better conversation, Celeste Headlee (2015), says that the most
important part of a conversation is being able to listen. If you cannot listen, there is no way for you to
understand what the other person is trying to convey with their words. In a small family business,
listening is an essential skill for every member of the team to have. Unlike a big company, such as
McDonalds, in a family business everyone has the same level of seniority. There are no clear roles,
this means that interpersonal communication, listening in particular, is an even more important
consideration in a small family business. If the family and their employees cannot communicate well
there would not a business to manage for much longer. A family business, especially one just hanging
on, could potentially go out of business... Another rule that Headlee (2015) says will lead to a better
conversation is if you do not know, say that you do not know. Recently, I was training a new
employee, instead of asking for help, this person would just assume things. It took my co workers and
myself a while to realise that she was putting things away in incorrect spots and telling customers
wrong information about products in the

The Global Distribution of Economic Activity Cuased by...
Globalization is currently a very hot topic and many people have an awful lot to say about the matter,
creating different theories and points of view. A definition of globalization could be, The
straightforward exchange between core and peripheral areas based upon a broad division of labour, is
being transformed into a highly complex, kaleidoscopic structure involving the fragmentation of many
production processes and their geographical relocation on a global scale in ways which slice through
national boundaries. (Dicken 98). When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst the top 10% of GDP earners receive approximately 100 times more than the bottom 10%, at
that lower end of the spectrum 2.8bn people live on less than $2 per day, and 1.1bn live in poverty at
less than $1 per day. This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the past 20 years
which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is looked at in terms of
proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has more than halved. This decline
in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily mean that we now live in a more
globalized economy. The main reason for this decline is due to the meteoric rise of China into the
world trade network, along with Mexico and India, this kind of measure of poverty as a marker for
economic activity can be hazed by the integration of these three economies alone. It can not be
overlooked however and is definitely seen as a positive effect on the distribution of world economic
activity. In terms of income per capita, the average income in the richest 20 countries is 37 times that
in the poorest 20 a ratio that has doubled in the past 40 years. This would insinuate that the extremes
of the distribution have increased, whilst the rich have been getting

  • 2. Edward R. Murrow Analysis 1. Why did the public acclaim for Edward R. Murrow s World War II radio broadcasts help his controversial Radulovich and McCarthy TV programs, and How were the economic vulnerabilities of commercial TV exploited by President Lyndon B. Johnson in order to create a surprise news event that interfered with Fred Friendly s live coverage of the 1966 U.S. Senate Hearings on Vietnam? Edward R. Murrow is a universally recognized, courageous news broadcaster who brought stories to life through radio and television programs. He developed the term broadcast journalism, earning creditability with his eyewitness coverage of the London bombing which gave him the public acclaim As Kendrick noted, he was recognized as a proficient debater, and preferred the spoken word, never having been a writing journalist (Kendrick, p.214). Murrow worked for CBS as an American radio news correspondent covering World War II. He experienced first hand the Blitz on London, the bombing of the city by the Germans on September 7, 1940. Late nights or early mornings, Murrow constantly broadcast in London. He lived on coffee and cigarettes, Janet, Murrow s wife, remembered (Kendrick, p. 202). He ... • 3. Discuss How Veronica Is Portrayed and to What Extent the... Veronica is a young but unique character who is carefully crafted in this story by Adewale Maja Pearce who evokes emotions of sympathy towards her in a distinctive way; Veronica is not a woman who fits in with the stereotypical idea of a woman from the village, she does not seem to care that there is no hope for a better life or the future. This is perhaps the main reason why we as readers feel more sympathy towards Veronica as opposed to Mathilde in The Necklace; her almost inhuman ability to simply accept everything that is thrown at her. Mathilde is directly opposite to Veronica in the way that she behaves: Veronica accepts her unlucky situations and Mathilde complains and makes her life worse. Initially, the writer introduces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The writer creates an overwhelming sense of shock in Okeke as he discovers the squalor of the village. The place was crawling with disease and everybody was living surviving rather in acute poverty . The use of the metaphor, crawling with disease provides an image of bacteria literally crawling and creeping through the village infecting people, resulting in sympathy from the reader. The use of the subordinate clause puts an emphasis on and further describes the state in which people were barely living in. Maja Pearce creates sympathy for Veronica by describing the surroundings that Veronica had to endure to survive. People like us, living in Africa can relate to these conditions because Malawi is a poor country and we understand the way these people have to live. Veronica is depicted as a woman who accepts any situation, downfall or calamity that comes her way. She speaks without bitterness at the things she does not have. They are my family, that is enough even after her family treated her badly and left her. Veronica exceeds all stereotypes of selfless people. Instead of being ashamed or unhappy with her situation like Mathilde, she embraces her fate. Speaking without bitterness implies that Veronica is not affected by what people do or say to her creating sympathy for her. The reader also feels respectful towards Veronica as she keeps her dignity throughout the whole story and her life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second claim the passage makes is that, there are different cultures. The third claim the passage makes is that, what morality would apply to androids that were exactly like humans except they were made of silicone and metal? The support the author uses for the first claim is that, we are all different in lots of ways, so how could any two people believe in exactly the same morality? What s right for you isn t right for me, and vice versa. His/her support for the second claim suggest that, what s right for American might be wrong for Eskimo or an Arab or an African Tribesman. In Guyana (my homeland) I am not allowed to call an adult by their given name. I would have to refer to them as uncle or auntie and then insert their name. It is disgraceful for a younger person to call adults by their name. The reason is that the culture dictates that you are not on equal grounds or have earned the right to call them on their real name. In America it is okay to refer to someone regardless of age by their given name. Another difference is chivalry. As time progresses humans forget to be polite to one another. I was brought up to say, good morning, please and thank you. Opening doors and letting people finish speaking instead of interrupting and cursing in public or at parents. Many have argued about the outcome of the European expansion on the Americas. Some people feel that the Europeans had both a positive and negative impact on the expansion; however, the negative impact gave a devastating result, which would continue to change history for almost four hundred years. The Europeans were manipulative towards to indigenous people of the Americas. They exploited them, using them as their personal slaves. Most importantly, they silently murdered the Natives by introducing them to diseases such as the measles and smallpox. Consequently, a small pox epidemic was caused, which resulted in the ... The shipment of the African slaves were brought from Senegambia, Sierra Leone, the Windward Coast, Gold Coast and the Bight of Benin. They belonged to several tribes and several language groups along some coast of Africa. A typical idea believed by the English planters was that the African slaves did not hold to a system of beliefs that could be seen as a religion. The members of the plantation and the church that served them felt, their beliefs amounted to nothing more than heathenish superstition. But the Africans held religious beliefs derived from their homeland. It may be useful to note that some of the slaves, particularly these who came from the Fula speaking area of Senegambia, were Muslims. The Europeans not only expanded their land and economy they were also expanding their minds with new ways of thinking such as Enlightenment . Major ideas of the actual 18th century Enlightenment had a lot to do with democratic ideals, a reduced influence of Christian Church doctrine in government, and overall progress of humankind. The Enlightenment was the product of a vast set of cultural and intellectual changes in Europe during the 1500s and 1600s changes that in turn produced the social values that permitted the Enlightenment to sweep through Europe in the late 1600s and 1700s. The partnership between Reliance and Columbia fulfilled White s vision of Balancing Agriculture with Industry . Due to White s leadership, in 1936, the Industrial Act of 1936 was legislated and allowed local communities to propose to build manufacture plants before the Balancing Agriculture with Industry Board. In 1956, Ingalls built two Sherman class destroyers for the United States Navy fully equipped with 5 inch guns, three antiaircraft guns, and one set of torpedo tubes. • 8. Benjamin Banneker Rhetorical Analysis Benjamin Banneker s Letter to Thomas Jefferson Rhetorical Analysis Being respectful and thoughtful, Benjamin Banneker addresses the issue of slavery. Throughout the letter, where the son of former slaves writes to Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Banneker reasons African Americans are equal to white men, and refers to the mistreatment of slaves by Americans in order to argue that slavery is morally wrong. First, Benjamin Banneker reasons African Americans are equal to white men in order to argue that slavery is morally wrong. For example, through the repetition of the word the Sir , Banneker not only shows respect towards Thomas Jefferson, but portrays himself as someone knowledgeable. This helps Banneker argue that is slavery is morally wrong because it shatters the notion of African Americans being inferior to white people due to Banneker, who is an African American, writing a letter in a dignified manner. Also, it helps the argument by appealing to Thomas Jefferson s ego and sense of worth. The repetition of sir makes it more difficult for Jefferson to become angry at Banneker for being insolent because it doesn t antagonize Jefferson, but recognizes the difference in authority and position between Banneker and Jefferson while showing that Banneker himself, who is an African American, is capable and educated. Through sentences ... you have mercifully received and that is the peculiar blessing of heaven , blessings to which you were entitled by nature , and ... benevolence of the Father of mankind and of equal and impartial distribution of those right... Mr. Banneker appeals to Jefferson through religion. This religious appeal aids the argument that slavery is wrong because it works as the premise to a syllogism; God has made all men equal, African Americans and white people are men, so they are equal. For Jefferson to dispute this argument, he would have to defy the premise of his own Declaration of Independence ( We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are create equal... ) which would mean the loss of the justification Americans had to declare independence from Great Britain. Also, Banneker speaks to Jefferson s own values as a religious man by arguing that he is opposing God s goodwill in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cause And Effect Of A Gunshot Wound Be Treated With... Illness We tend to think of every medically treatable condition as an illness, and every illness as a medically treatable condition; and that is just not the case. There are many physical factors that detrimentally affect our health: disease, infection, genetics, diet, injury, exhaustion, accidents, poison, warfare, pollution, heredity, birth defects, and more. All of these can be considered the cause of an unhealthy condition; but none of them are an illness. A bullet is bad for one s health, but no one is suggesting that a gunshot wound is an illness or a disease. [Though, some community activists would call gun violence a social sickness.] No one is suggesting that a gunshot wound be treated with affirmations and prayer. [But, there are often prayer vigils and church services that aim to put an end to shooting incidents.] During recovery from a gunshot wound there may be difficulties that could properly be called illness. We could properly consider the person in recovery to not yet be well. Affirmation and prayer may be effective at this point, in re establishing a state of well being. Though studies have not shown that this affects one s physical recovery, an increased sense of wellness is, by definition, of benefit to their health. Holmes properly uses the term illness when recommending a course of spiritual mind treatment; but it would be a mistake to think that every condition can be treated in this way. • 10. The Main Determinants Of Fdi Investment opportunities in Romania. Main determinants of FDI attractiveness in the country 1. Abstract It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by foreign investors. Investing in emerging markets is risky on the one hand, but can offer attractive returns on the other hand. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the Former Soviet Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living standards and has lowered the level of poverty (World Bank, 2008). One of the new attractive destinations preferred by investors is the Black Sea area and specifically Romania. However, by having been closely linked to the other former Soviet republics, all ... To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm to invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of 23 years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness. 2.2. Social and economic change Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become extremely supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open new branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008). First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise sector, as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth possibilities, the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement. In 1990, the country went through a revolution in 1989 and since then, it has faced significant change. • 11. Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a Prussian victory. Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning monarchy. He was not born as the heir to the Bonaparte claim to the French throne, but the premature death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to ... This decision could not have been an easy one. Doubtless it took many days of weighing the pros and cons, looking at data, consulting experts to come to the ultimate decision to discontinue selling new automobiles in the United States. The ultimate decision was a good decision based on many facts about the state of Suzuki in the US. The amount of Suzuki vehicles sold decreased from 102,000 in 2007 to only 21,000 in 2012 , the number of dealerships was falling along with the number of vehicles sold, Suzuki s partnership with GM collapsed in 2009, new EPA standards were disproportionately negatively affecting makers of small cars (Suzuki s main product ), competition from other automakers was growing much more intense which led to a market share of just 0.2% of the US automobile industry in 2012 (Berkowitz, 2012) , and to add further challenges to the US automobile division of Suzuki, a str ong yen was further hurting the J apanese based manufacturer (Takahashi, 2012) . The Chairman of the Board, as Sinatra was commonly known, decided to start his solo career in 1942, after a brief period singing with Harry James and the Tommy Dorsey Band. Many well known singers preceded him, such as Billy Holiday and Bing Crosby. None of these performers, however great, led completely self sufficient careers of their own. Gardner attests that Sinatra s success cemented the notion of the interpretive singer as an autonomous musician in service to the song but also owning it, at least for the duration of the performance . Given the type of personality he possessed, this was not surprising. Frank had the street smarts , the intelligence, drive, and talent to sustain a solo career. ... Then the 1980s are more financially centered and individualistic. This decade s ideal citizen is the one who measured success by how much money they made. The 1970s proved to be a time of bitterness, cynicism, and increased interest in one s self for most of the people in America. The Court recognized in a 7 to 2 decision that the Constitutional right to privacy should include a person s choice to terminate their pregnancy. This case became not known as one of a person s right to privacy, but rather the case that legalized abortion (Roe v. Wade). This case, in some ways, is not only about abortion, but it also illustrates the effects of the feminist movements throughout the country. After this landmark decision of the Supreme Court, a woman could now choose if and when to have children. No longer was sex only socially acceptable for married couples ready to procreate. Another event that made a woman s position in American society more independent was the economic recession, sometimes referred to as a stagflation, which occurred during the middle to late part of the 1970s. In a small family business, listening is an essential skill for every member of the team to have. Unlike a big company, such as McDonalds, in a family business everyone has the same level of seniority. There are no clear roles, this means that interpersonal communication, listening in particular, is an even more important consideration in a small family business. This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the past 20 years which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is looked at in terms of proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has more than halved. This decline in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily mean that we now live in a more globalized economy.
