How To Write A Good Narrative Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of writing a good narrative essay might initially appear
deceptively simple, but delving into the process reveals a myriad of challenges. One must
navigate through the labyrinth of narrative elements, ensuring a seamless blend of plot,
characters, and setting. The task involves a delicate balance between creativity and structure,
where the writer must weave a captivating story while adhering to the essay format.
The challenge lies in capturing the reader's attention from the outset, establishing a strong thesis,
and sustaining a compelling narrative throughout. Finding the right narrative voice, selecting
vivid and evocative language, and maintaining coherence pose additional hurdles. It demands a
keen understanding of storytelling techniques, pacing, and the art of building tension to create
an immersive experience for the reader.
Moreover, the writer must grapple with the paradox of conveying personal experiences while
ensuring universality. Striking this delicate equilibrium requires honed writing skills and a deep
appreciation for the nuanced nature of storytelling.
The revision process further intensifies the difficulty. Revisiting one's own work with a critical
eye, identifying weaknesses, and implementing improvements demand both objectivity and self-
reflection. It is a test of resilience and commitment to refining the narrative until it reaches its
zenith.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the nuances of composing a captivating narrative essay is not
a straightforward endeavor. It involves mastering the art of storytelling, maintaining structural
integrity, and honing the ability to engage readers on a profound level. While the task may seem
formidable, the rewards lie in the mastery of a skill that transcends mere essay writing. Similar
challenges can be tackled with the help of professional assistance. For a plethora of essays and

The Bourne Identity Essay
The Bourne Identity
In this essay, I compared the book, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and the
film of the same name, directed by Doug Liman. The main character Jason Bourne
was played by Matt Damon and Marie St. Jacques is played by Franka Potente. The
book and movie were extremely different from each other. The book had more
detail of the overall story, easier to comprehend and had character build up. While
the movie seemed to only be interested in the action. I thought the book to be more
fulfilling in its story and the movie to be predictable and tedious (considering I fell
asleep). It didn t take long to notice they were completely different. I wasn t prepared
for the movie to be so off from the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Washburn studied and made Jason Bourne wait until he thought he was fit to go out
into the world, for instance he made him go on a fishing trip with the hardest
fishing crew around to prove his was ready. As always, Jason Bourne proved he
was ready for anything. Geoffrey Washburn was never seen or mentioned in the
movie which like I said was a great disappointment, because that was the upbringing
of Jason Bourne. He is partly responsible to creating the new Jason Bourne. He is
also the a great help to Jason Bourne while he tries to find out who he was, and
what he was. Another thing that is in the book, is the character Marie St. Jacques
who was first Bourne s hostage. Who was in Swedish women working for the
Canadian government. In the book she was very intelligent and sharp. She was
able to escape from Bourne and then was caught by the cops. She was used by the
cops to find Jason and once they found him, they tried to kill her. Though to her
surprise Bourne had been following her and saved her. She then felt like she had to
be by his side and help him find his identity and then quickly fell in love with him.
None of what I said above happened in the film. In the film She was bribed into
helping Bourne and was just a petty girl that needed cash to stay in Sweden. She liked
Jason Bourne throughout the film from
The Life And Accomplishments Of Franklin D. Roosevelt
The United States of America had a very great leader during the years of 1933 1945.
This man led our country and achieved many accomplishments and had many
outstanding outcomes before and throughout his Presidency. I will address who
Franklin D. Roosevelt was and his well known accomplishments and his last days as
President in 1945.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30th, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York to
James and Sara Delano Roosevelt. He was the only child but had an older half
brother, James Roosevelt from his father s first wife Rebecca Howland but she died
in 1876. Roosevelt s stepmother died on September 7, 1941 and his father died
four years later. Franklin married Eleanor Roosevelt on St. Patrick s Day March 17,
1905 in New York City. (Franklin D. Roosevelt and The Third American Revolution

Franklin was a well known man because of his name and his family wealth. Franklin
was a well determined individual and wanted to accomplish so much that he even
wanted to enlist in the armed forces, but President Wilson urged against it, citing his
important service in the Navy Department. In 1920 the Democratic Party nominated
Ohio Governor James M. Cox for President and Franklin D. Roosevelt for Vice
President but unfortunately they lost and were defeated by Republicans Warren G.
Harding and Calvin Coolidge. He later was elected Governor of New York State in
1928 and 1930 for two two year terms. By 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected
President of the United States and then three more times. He was President in
1932,1936,1940 and 1944. (History.com Staff,
Hoyt Sector Model
The city that we modeled is Chicago, and what we noticed throughout our intense
research was that Chicago most resembles the Sector Model. Hoyt s Sector Model
is an urban city model describing urban land uses and patterns. In this model, social
classes are separated by a series of sectors and or wedges which originate from the
core, the central business district, and in the case of Chicago, the Chicago Loop . The
blah blah blah of Chicago has lead to the formation of these characteristics that so
closely resembles Hoyt s Model.
Due to the United States westward expansion in the nineteenth century, Chicago
became an ideal city site because of its location; it served as a water link between the
Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, which fostered
A Neat Sampling Strategy Based On Purposive Sampling
Essay
Sampling Davies initially planned to use a neat sampling strategy based on purposive
sampling. The complexity of the study however, affected this strategy. It was mainly
by connections Davies was able to expand her sample, some of the connections
becoming participants in the study themselves, some of them working as points of
contact (REFERENCE).Therefore, Davies used instead snowball and convenience
sampling methods. When looking at sampling strength, the first thing that must be
asked is whether the sample is representative of the population (Clark, 2003). Davies
attempts to keep a balanced number of female/male proportion in the sample,
however, the fact landmine work is a male dominated field made this impossible.
Therefore, although the majority of the landmine action actors interviewed were
male, this is in some way still representative of the studied population. Nevertheless,
when interviewing villagers, Davies does manage to keep the numbers proportionate
in terms of gender and age. Recruitment Davies selected a convenience sampling and,
although not acknowledging so, a snowball sampling method, as most of the new
participants she recruited were connections made by the previous participants
(REFERENCE). One must therefore ask: is this sampling strategy appropriate?
(Clark, 2003). When looking into the landmine action actors, the struggle finding
potential participants within the research field is an understandable barrier. It must
therefore be

LGBT RIGHTS: ON THE USA AND BRAZIL
2
Introduction
Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) issues have continuously
triggered debates and controversies among various individual s across the globe. The
rising concerns leading to the differences in opinions regarding LGBT emanate from
the point of perceptions, cultural beliefs, religious values and political basis. Due to
the dynamics of not accepting the existence of the LGBT peop le by some individuals
in their communities, the LGBTs have found it hard to express themselves freely and
enjoy equal rights just like a regular citizen should
(Dolan, 2013). For instance, in the United States, the LGBT patients did not have
visitation rights until a directive from the Whitehouse was issued. In some
communities, extreme measures have been taken against individuals suspected to be
lesbians or gays. Because of the way the public view the LGBT people, it is
disheartening and traumatizing for most of them to come out and express themselves
openly. Some have been forced to lead double standards. However, the situation has
changed in different nations and states in America where laws and policies have been
developed to support and protect the LGB
T community. As a minority group, the LGBT community has struggled over the
years to have their rights respected.
Despite the existing disagreements surrounding the LGBT rights, several states in the
United States of America and Brazil among others have demonstrated
Vanishing Middle Class Essay

11 July 2017 The Increase in Income and the Vanishing Middle class The majority of
the the U.S. population identify themselves as being within the middle or working
class. The socioeconomic group between the lower and upper classes. is much
smaller than most think and is starting to decline. The large increase in income have
reshaped the American middle class that most claim to be part of. Today s higher
income of the American middle class family comes from the two parent income.
This income is higher of those of past generations, however, over the past
generation, the increase in income for the median earning family have not resulted
in an improved lifestyle. The reason for life not improving for America s middle
class is often misconstrued with over consumption or purchasing of unneeded
items and services, but these activities are not the case for the middle class non
improved quality of life. Revolving debt and the large increase in life s fixed
expenses such as mortgage, health care, and child care, these factors are the main
reasons for the increase in income for middle class families not resulting in an
improved life quality.
In the article the Vanishing Middle Class , the author Elizabeth Warren explains why
and how America s middle class is facing many hardships today. These hardships are
often linked to overconsumption of material items such as technology, home
appliances and clothing.
However, in Warren s article
Examples Of Onomatopoeia In Dulce Et Decorum Est
Owen explores battlefield experience through the gas attacks and mass slaughter
that occurred in the World War 1. In Dulce et Decorum Est the soldier dies horribly
because he doesn t get his gas mask on in time. Owen uses similes to describe the
drowning and onomatopoeia to convey the sound. As under a green sea, I saw him
drowning , Owen uses the simile to compare the soldier to a man burning and
drowning to show the panic and awkward movement of a soldier in the green gas.
Onomatopoeia creates sounds that are terrible and memorable through the words
guttering, choking and drowning as the soldier is unable to breathe. The combination
of similes and onomatopoeia creates a horrible picture of the battlefield experience
through the panic,

History of Early Dance in France
The culture I chose to research the dance history of was French dance culture prior
to ballet and the different dances that were popular and possibly developed into
ballet. I wanted to learn more about French dance history because I am half French
from my mother s side of the family so I have always been fascinated with the
culture especially the dance culture. I have also danced ballet all of my life
starting at age four and have learned a lot about it and its origins so I thought it
would be interesting to see what other dances were popular in France. Having this
connection to my culture and my passion of dance is of great interest to me and I
enjoyed learning so much about the dance culture on France and how it has
developed over the years. Also it is fascinating to see what dances have survived
today that are still preformed and danced and how other dances influenced each
other to create new forms of dance. I mostly looked into court dances and what was
popular in the earlier parts of France with higher society individuals and how those
dances developed and either are still danced today or died out and developed into
other dances particularly how they greatly influenced what we know today as
ballroom dancing.
The majority of France s cultural enhancement took place during the crusades. The
crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by the Latin Roman Catholic

Shakespeare
I am comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell (1640) and Sonnet 138 by
William Shakespeare (1590). The similarities between both poems are that they both
use a certain amount of syllables throughout each poem. To His Coy Mistress uses 8
syllables per line, and Sonnet 138 uses 10 syllables per line. Another obvious
similarity is that they both end with a couplet. They both also tell a story. The
differences in the poems are that To His Coy Mistress is arguing why they should
get on with life, and Carpe diem whereas Sonnet 138 is telling us about how he

Synopsis As the largest aerospace company in the world, the Boeing Company
employees more than 153,000 people in some 67 countries. The great dominance of
Boeing is due to its 1997 merger with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, an aerospace
manufacturer, and its 1996 purchase of the defense and space units of Rockwell
International Corporation, an aerospace contractor. The corporation is the world s
number one maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft with more than 9,000
commercial planes in service worldwide, including the 717 through 777 families of

Unfortunately, Boeing jets were involved in four fatal air accidents from December
1988 to March 1989, and the company missed its first delivery deadline in two
decades when the 747 400 experienced production delays. These internal problems
were exacerbated by increased competition from Airbus, which was heavily
subsidized by a consortium of European companies and governments. Furthermore,
worldwide orders of all aircraft by the airliners declined from 1,662 in 1989 to 439
in 1991. Fortunately, in 1993 NASA selected Boeing as the prime contractor for the
International Space Station, which was called the largest international science and
technology endeavor ever undertaken. Boeing was also becoming increasingly
involved in commercial space projects and in December 1995 ten commercial space
satellites were produced and launched from a floating platform at sea.
In the middle of 1990 s, Boeing began its plan of acquisitions and in 1996 it paid
$3.2 billion for the aerospace and defense holdings of Rockwell International which
was responsible for the Space shuttle and International Space Station programs, as
well as activities in launch systems, rocket engines, missiles, satellites and military
airplanes. Furthermore, in 1997 Boeing completed a $14 billion acquisition of
McDonnell Douglas which was the world s number three maker of commercial
aircraft. The acquisition
The Evolution Of Afric Evolution And Human Evolution
Human evolution is the gradual process in which people, or Homo sapiens,
originated from apelike ancestors. Scientific evidence, particularly in the form of
fossils and secondary remains, show that the physical and behavioral traits shared
by all people evolved over a period of approximately six million years. Humans are
primates. Both genetic and physical similarities show that humans and the great apes
(large apes) of Africa, chimpanzees (including bonobos, or so called pygmy
chimpanzees ) and gorillas share a common ancestor that lived between 8 and 6
million years ago. The volume of fossils found in Africa suggests that most evolution
occurred there and is likely the place of origin for early humans. This brings to
fruition the out of Africa theory, also called the single origin hypothesis.
The out of Africa theory implies that Anatomically modern humans evolved in East
Africa between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago and began to disperse throughout the
world roughly 70,000 to 135,000 years ago. In 2011, scientists came to the
conclusion there were likely two major waves of migration out of Africa the Early
northern Africa dispersal and Southern Route dispersal.
The early northern Africa dispersal occurred 130,000 115,000 years ago, as a result
of tropical Africa experiencing megadroughts, forcing humans towards the seashores
for food and water. Certain groups attempted to cross over to other continents in
search for viable living conditions, but many retreated or
Summary Of Bertrand Russell s The Conquest Of Happiness
Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher and mathematician throughout the late
19th and 20th centuries. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including
epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics, with some of his most notable works being
Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In Praise of Idleness. He also
worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematicaand Introduction
to Mathematical Philosophy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950
for various pieces of writing he had published. He was also very openly pacifist, and
even went to jail in 1918 for publicly encouraging anti war ideology during World War
I. Russell is widely considered to be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One
of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness, discusses the unhappiness that
many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine chapters detail
causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional
fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why
they cause such unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters
explaining what causes happiness, including an individual s relationships with their
jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the reasons why these are so
effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached. The
book overall preaches contentment rather than total elation, relaxation rather than
constant excitement,

Concept of Freedom in Political Theory
Why is the concept of freedom so contested in political theory? (Word maximum:
1,500) Freedom is an important concept in Western politics, strongly entwined as it
is with ideas of liberalism. Yet, as suggested by the question, the concept is one
which is hotly debated. Indeed, political agents attempt to control the political
agenda through promotion of their particular definition. This essay will look at the
ways freedom has been defined by different theorists over the years. It will also
look at how freedom is linked with and explained through different theo ries and
ideologies. It will then go on to look at how these different theories and ideologies
may shape the conceptions of freedom we find in our daily lives. Different... Show

This approach may be considered stifling of both innovation and effort, since
anything above the average will not be rewarded. By contrast, if equality of
opportunity is achieved, then some will accumulate more wealth and power than
others, giving them effectively more freedom. John Rawls (1971, cited in
Middleton, 2005) introduced two principles of justice, the first of which was that
each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a
similar liberty for others . Rawls attempted to address the question of inequality
through the second of his principles: the difference principle . In this he said that it
was acceptable for some to be better off than others as long as by doing so the
poorest people also benefitted in some way. In other words, inequality was
acceptable if some of the extra benefit were redistributed to those most in need.
This approach is an example of positive freedom. However, Isaiah Berlin (1969,
cited in Smith, 2005), known as a chief architect of theories of positive and
negative freedom, saw dangers in this approach too. He argued that it was wrong to
ascribe to individuals a set of common needs and desires. Moreover, he considered
that the surrender of individual freedom for collective self rule could result in
individual rights being violated. He concluded that a measure of both
The Everyday Is Important For Sociological Research
This essay will argue that the setting of the everyday is important for sociological
research. Through its investigation it becomes evident how various types of social
structures and institutions have an ability to influence behaviours and emotions of
individuals. The sociological research of the everyday covers a diverse range of
theories, as individuals live and conduct themselves by various standards, contexts,
and structures (Heller, 1984, p. 3), and it is this kind of interaction that is taken for
granted and thus in need of exploration. It is through the examination of the
socialisation occurring in the everyday between individuals, institutions, rules, and
culture, that it becomes evident that the obvious is often not so obvious (Newman et
al., 2013). This essay utilises the sociological imagination to express this importance
of the everyday through the exploration of three aspects of socialisation, these being
employment, mass media, and social deviance. It is these kinds of socialisations
occurring in the everyday that illustrate how social structures and institutions
influence behaviours and emotions, and hence also prove the everyday as an
important setting for sociological research.
Have you ever wondered whether your thoughts and feelings are your own?
(Gavin Smith)
It is through the sociological research of the events and happenings in the everyday
that this important question can be and is addressed quite repetitively. First, however

These trials have brought up multiple theories to explain why the town of Salem

discussed in lecture were mass hysteria, fungus in the rye, social control and the
legacy of Indian wars. The mass hysteria theory suggests that the people of the
town became so obsessed and overwhelmed with religious faith motivated purely
by superstitions and rumors. These rumors and superstitions caused the people of
Salem to be fearful of anyone who stepped out of their definition of normalcy. The
fungus in the rye theory suggests that people who consumed the rye ended up
hallucinating because the mold contained similar elements to LSD. The social
control theory states that people of lower income and status started to accuse the
wealthy of witchcraft. This was used as a form of revenge. Lastly the theory of the
Indian war implies that men of political power began utilization of fear as a cover up
for their failure to protect the northern area. Therefore created the idea of witchcraft

Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady
To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written
by a man could illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have
been foreign. Yet such a novel exists, one that spins a web of morality and human
frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a thousand questions in their
mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the task of
creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as
reveal the Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing
the serial The Portrait of a Lady in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is
renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against conventionalism, more
expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and womanhood.
His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to
a high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his
interpretation of the dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In
fact, he creates several female characters, all of whom are manifestations of the

English Vs Western Riding Research Paper
English vs. Western Did you know that horseback riding is split into English and
Western riding? You may wonder which one is better? Are English rider s discipline
and elegance better or Western rider s courage and freedom? A major difference
between western and English riding is the tack. The western saddleis big, heavy, and
comfortable. Their saddle is made for long trail rides and has a horn to hold onto.
The English saddle is small, light, and less comfortable. This saddle keeps the rider
close to the horseand is suitable for jumping. Both English and Western riders use
bridals, but the English bridle has a nose band while the western saddle often does
not. Apparel is another thing that sets English apart from Western. Although they
Essay On Mexican Identity
The stewardess announced that it was twenty minutes until landing. My heart
thumped in anticipation as we flew over Mexico City s skyscrapers and grand, old
Chapultepec Park. Before long, I was in my aunt s car as it weaved through
suffocating traffic; I knew that soon I d be hugging my grandparents and sharing a
familyfeast. This is my parents homeland, where both grew up as part of the
microcosm that is the Mexican Jewish community, which makes up a tiny fraction of
the country s population. Its hybrid culture and traditions run deep in me, coexisting
with my American identity. It s a unique identity that may seem curious to some, with
its Veracruz style gefilte fish, kosher tacos, and matzo meal handmade tortillas for the

Their parents escaped in the 1920s from Eastern Europe s poverty and anti Semitism
in search for a better life; my parents immigrated in pursuit of higher education. My
home is the wonderful mixture of these identities, with my brother and I growing up
bilingual and multicultural.
Though I ve been to Mexico countless times, this trip was different. I was there to
volunteer at Kadima, a center founded by the Jewish community to support people
of all ages with physical and mental disabilities. I didn t know what to expect. Would
I have the patience to spend eight hours a day with the patients? Would I be able to
communicate with them appropriately? Would I make a difference in their lives?
Every day at Kadima, I learned about each patient s disability. I oversaw their
routines, relaxed their stiff bodies, and calmed their frustrations all while knowing
that their conditions will likely not improve over time. Until I worked at Kadima, I
had never thought twice about how long it takes to brush my teeth, or the complexity
of putting one foot in front of the other simple tasks that challenged the patients.
These disabilities limit the patients outlook in life and make them dependant on the
support and understanding of their loved ones. I could never conceive relying on
others for help in every aspect of my
Ancient Greek Column Designs
Have the Greeks used imitation in their column design, if so what could the Greeks
have imitated to create the columns? If imitation has effected the design of the Doric,
Ionic, and Corinthian columns, how is this change seen? What relationships can be
seen between the human body and the Ancient Greek columns?
This essay will initially look at the period prior to 620 BC to see if there is any
evidence to suggest that the ancient Greeks may have imitated another civilizations
designs to create the three architectural orders that Vitruviuswrote about in his Ten
Books of Architecture. The next part of this essay will look at each of the three
columns to discuss their virtues in relation to proportionality, structure and visual
imitation.
The oldest of the ancient Greek classical orders is the Doric order. The creation of the
Doric order has been traced back to the ancient Greek Dorian tribe. It has been
written by Anderson that after the Dorian tribe took control of the Peloponnesos
area of Greece in 1100 BC they then expanded into every part of Greece kingdom
including Crete. This would have given the Dorian s access to the ruins of the
Knossos Palace from the Minoan civilization.
One of the most notable contributions of Minoans was their unique column design.
This column was different to the Greek columns as it was wider at the bottom than
the top. It was suggested by Adams that the columns of Knossos were installed in this
direction to ensure the trees didn t take root.
Difference Between Foucault And Gramsci
Usually, power is understood as the capacity of an agent to impose his will over
the will of the powerless as well as the ability to force that are powerless to do
things they do not want to do or wish to do. In that way it can be said that power is
understood as possession or as something owned by those in power. As power is
theorized in many different ways by great thinkers such as Michael Foucault and
Antonio Gramsci, this essay will look at how Gramsci s conception of power is
different from and/or complementary to Foucault s conception of power. It will
show as to whether there is space for resistance in either of their notions of power as
well as how they help us understand South Africa or not. It will also use different
examples together... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Foucault power is positive in the sense that it maintains discipline in the
society as we have to cooperate and obey the rules and power also ensures that we
do things however it is negative in the sense that it deters us from doing
something. For example, if a person murders someone, they know that they will be
arrested because it is declared as a crime. As power lies in civil society for
Gramsci; civil society allows participation whereby people know their rights
however though it allows participation hegemonic ideology presents interests of
dominant class as the interest of all (Gramsci, 1977, 181). An example in this case
can be that of we elect the government which is to say that we have a say on which
government should rule us however it is for the interests of the government as
through us it is able to maintain capitalism from the labour that we

Employment Law Essay
In order to discuss and analyse the above statement, in depth reference will be made
to various documents which can in some circumstances relate to contracts of
employment and whether those particular documents which are not contractual can
be incorporated into a contract, creating legal enforceability for employers and
employees. Firstly it must be established what exactly is a contract of employment.
A contract of employment is an agreement between an employer and employee,
forming the basis of an employment relationship; enforceable by law. Contracts of
employment may be given orally or in writing: Employment Rights Act 1996 s 230(2)
and commence immediately. Actual written contracts require an employee s
signature and the signature of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case of Gascol Conversions v Mercer demonstrates an instance whereby the
statutory particulars were held to be the contract, as the statement of the written terms
had been sent to the employee who had signed them and a receipt. In other words he
was agreeing that the document accurately represented the terms of the employment,
he had signed what he acknowledged to be a written contract. Clearly demonstrating
that a document that is not itself contractual can be incorporated into a contract, it is
thus possible for what would normally be a section 1 statement to be transformed
into a formal written contract by the parties signing it . Later cases showed a
somewhat opposing view
System Floors (U.K.) Ltd. v. Daniel
[1982] I.C.R. 54, noted (1982) I.L.J. 118. Employment Appeal Tribunal.
This was not really a contractual term at all, but a factual statement, probably
inappropriate for inclusion in a contract.
When starting employment, employees will often be provided with a substantial
amount of documents, these may be in the form of works rules, company
/employment handbooks and policies. Documents like these could if proven, have
some contractual effect by way of express or implied incorporation or custom
The Invasion of Algeria by France Essay
France invaded Algeria to bring the blessings of colonization. The main objective for
the French invading Algeria was for economic gain and become known as one the
most superior and dominant nations of Europe. France changed the lives of many
Africans which led to Algerians applying for citizenship in their own country. The
Algerians endured many hardships after the French came into the picture. Things did
not change for the better, but for the worst. The French imposed more and higher
taxes on Muslims than Europeans (library of congress). In their country Muslims had
to pay more taxes, and even new taxes than they had before the French invaded their
country. The Algerians then had to apply for citizenship into their own country. The

The parent country would colonize the country for its land, practice exploitation by
establishing trading post or plantations, or use the country for its natural resources.
On the positive side colonization gave way to new cultures, beliefs, and ethnic
diversity. In many instances it was an opportunity for the parent company to expand
it powers. Colonization was the technique for European countries to gain supremacy,
power, and wealth.
France began its journey to colonization when they were on a mission to discover
the Northwest Passage. This was a route connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
In the midst of their quest, the French had begun to pursue the idea to colonize the
Americas. France colonized the Americas as a way to become part of the trading
industry. In exchange for fur the French would give the Native tools and weapons
that were French manufactured. The natives and the French developed a close

colonization is really something they wanted to pursue. In the 17th century France

The Powder River Basin Is The United States
The Powder River Basin Located in the western United States, the Powder River
Basin is currently the United States largest producer of coal, and the coal that is
produced here is some of the cleanest coal that is used in coal burning power plants.
By producing such large quantities of low sulfur, clean burning coal, the Powder
River Basin is of great interest, and we will examine the conditions and factors that
helped to form some of the largest and cleanest coal seams in the world, along with
coal production and other coal bed resources. A basin, as defined by Merriam
Webster s dictionary, is a broad area of the earth beneath which the strata dip
usually from the sides toward the center and on a simplified level, the Powder
River Basin is exactly this (Merriam Webster.com, 2014). The Powder River Basin
spans from the northeast half of Wyoming into the southeast corner of Montana. A
geologic map of the Powder River is shown on the following page. The basin is an
assymetrical syncline with its axis lying along the western side. The coal bearing
rocks in the western part of the basin dip over 20 degrees, while the rocks at the
eastern side of the basin only dip up to 5 degrees (Flores et al., 2008). As indicated
by the following stratigraphic column, the coal bearing rocks of the powder river
basin were deposited from the Upper Cretaceous into the Eocene epoch. These rocks
can reach a thickness of almost 8000 feet at the basin axis (Curry, 1971). Found at the
Bullying in Schools Today
When people think of bullying they think of the big guy picking on the little guy, but
in most cases the victim is a bully themselves. Bullying will not go away all together,
but determining if the situation is actually bullying or not, and standing up to the
bully is a great start to decrease bullying in schools today. Drama sometimes is
difficult to differ from bullying, and it is important to understand the difference. (1b:
SV, and SV.) Bystanders need to become involved to start the end of bullying. Also,
respect is needed to start to lessen bullying in schools today. Students have
difficulties telling the difference between bullying and drama; there is a very fine
line between the two. (1: SV; SV.) Bullying is continuously putting someone down for
no reason (Walker 8). This happens quite often in schools today; many students act
disrespectful which causes the illusion that their behavior is okay. Bullying is
intending to harass someone and hurt their feelings; however, the majority of the time
the situations fall under the drama category. (1a: SV; however, SV.) Drama is a
conflict that will blow over and does not reoccur (Walker 8,10). When the harassment
doesn t repeat it is considered drama because there isn t intention of bothering that
individual again. The majority of the time high school and middle school students get
caught up in drama, which eventually will blow over; whereas when a student gets
bullied, the harsh treatment and the hurt feelings do not blow

Investigating the Effect of Temperature on the Permeability of Membranes
The permeability of membranes can be altered in several ways. From previous
preliminary work I know that reagents, for example detergents and alcohol alter the
arrangement of the phospholipids in the membrane allowing substances to leak out of
the cell. Temperature also affects the membrane. As membranes relay on protein
molecules to allow molecules to enter and leave the cell through facilitated diffusion
the temperature must not exceed the approximate temperature of 50В°C as at roughly
this temperature proteins are denatured. This is due to an increase in kinetic energy
making atoms in the protein to vibrate more; this breaks hydrogen and ionic bonds.
These proteins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Care will need to be taken when cutting lengths of beetroot with a scalpel. Beetroot
should be cut in a direction away from the body to minimise the risk of cutting
yourself. A cutting mat should be used as not to damage surfaces underneath by

Plastic gloves and apron may be used to avoid the staining of hands and clothes with
beetroot pigment. Care will also need to be taken when placing and removing
samples of beetroot in hot water, tongs should be used to avoid burns.

Ducks Unlimited Vs. Delta Waterfowl
Ducks Unlimited vs. Delta Waterfowl Even though there are many ways to
conserve waterfowl, there technically are not any wrong ways. However, one could
argue that there are better ways. That debate rages on between sportsmen and
environmental conservationists alike. There are two big organizations when it
comes to conserving waterfowl and wetlands, Ducks Unlimited and Delta
Waterfowl. Both groups are able to raise millions of dollars for waterfowl due to
their enormous amount of members. However, I feel that Ducks Unlimited is the
better conservation group because they can maintain and manage the landscape of an
ecosystem effectively, and they are a greater political force compared to Delta
Waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited was founded by Joseph... Show more content on

Ducks Unlimited tries to revert these watersheds back to their natural levels by
draining the wetlands that have extremely high levels of contaminants in the water.
They then clean the soil in the habitat and find a way to decrease the extra
contaminates from entering the watershed. Next they will pump healthy water
back into the wetlands and install buffer strips that act like a filter that will catch
the extra nutrients and silt. The restoration of grasslands and forests is extremely
important when it comes to breeding grounds for ducks. Dabbling Ducks use the
tall grass found around ponds or in marshes to build nest and raise their young.
Diving Ducks will flock to flooded forest areas and build a nest inside the holes of
a tree and they will raise their young from above the ground. In recent years these
habitats have been reduced significantly for farming and other purposes. In order to
restore these habitats Ducks Unlimited must first purchase the land from the
landowner. After they have the rights to the property they will begin to make
changes to the area so it can be a more suitable ecosystem for waterfowl. When
restoring grasslands Ducks Unlimited will replant the local grasses and dig ponds in
the area, these actions will help hatchlings survive to adulthood. After these properties
have been restored Ducks Unlimited will donate the land to government agencies that
The Adventures Of Huck Finn By Mark Twain
In the Adventures of Huck Finn, Mark Twain uses nature and the river to express the
ideas of Huck s and Jim s freedom on the raft. However, the two characters encounter
the restrictions of freedom through the civilization found on the shore. The continual
shift of Huck and Jim s setting from the shore to the river highlights the comparisons
and differences between the two. Mark Twainuses the personality and background of
the characters, events on the raft and the shore, and imagery to help differentiate
the two settings. Huck s father, Pap, is the driving character who pushes Huck to
embark on his journey. Huck s background with his father and with the widow
represent his life on the shore. Society dictates the personalities of the widow, Miss
Watson, and Pap. Miss Watson is a strict Christian who joins the widow in an
attempt to civilize Huck. The main character, Huck, is overwhelmed by Miss
Watson and the widow s attempts, Miss Watson she kept pecking at me, and it got
tiresome and lonesome (3). By civilizing, Miss Watson constantly reminds Huck to
have more manners and tells him, Don t put your feet up there, Huckleberry; and
don t scrunch up like that, Huckleberry set up straight; and pretty soon she would
say, Don t gap and stretch like that, Huckleberry why don t you try to behave? (3).
The characters in the widow s household try to force the rules and structures of
society onto Huck and change who he is but this automatically drives Huck away.

Treatment Options For Excoriation Disorder

University School of Nursing Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder
Excoriation disorder, also known as skin picking disorder, is characterized by the
frequent scratching or picking of the skin. Picking most commonly occurs in areas
of the body that the patient can reach, such as the arms, inner thighs, face, fingers,
and upper back (Turner, Sutton, Sharma, 2014). The incessant skin picking can
cause physical and/or psychosocial damage, including scabs, scars, open wounds,
infection, shame, embarrassment, and social isolation. Skin picking disorder is
more common in females, with picking episodes lasting anywhere from five
minutes to twelve hours per day (Gelinas Gagnon, 2013). Though excoriation
disorder can occur on its own, it often coexists with other psychiatric issues.
Patients who are diagnosed with excoriation disorder are often also diagnosed with
anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders
(Capriotti, Ely, Snorrason, Woods, 2015). Excoriation disorder is relatively common,
but little research has been done to evaluate the best and most effective course of
treatment to control and/or eliminate the disease (Oliveira, Leppink, Derbyshire,
Grant, 2015). Due to the lack of research concerning skin picking disorder and the
disease s effects on the mind and body, it is important for psychiatric nurses to
familiarize themselves with both the
Armenian Genocide Essay
The Armenian Genocide was one of the worst planned killings in history taking over
one and half million lives. First having disputes with the Turkish government in
1894, Turkish military officials, soldiers and ordinary men sacked Armenian villages
and cities and massacred their citizens. This is also known as the Armenian
Holocaust. Being part of a religious minority in the region the Armenian people were
seen as inferior to the Muslims and having very few political and legal rights. Issues
increased during World War One when Ottoman religious authorities began a holy
war against all christians expect their allies. Turkish military leaders began to think if
the Allies won that the Armenianswould turn and fight for them. As the war continued

The monument is a symbol of respect to the people showing the history of the

as the memorial is for both people part of the genocide as well as people who want
to learn about it. The pathway is lined with birch trees on either side with white
tulips in front of it. These trees show the strict control the soldiers had as they
marched the prisoners to be executed, surrounded with no way out. To the left of
the pathway is a white building with the Armenian flag embroidered on the floor.
This is to symbol patriotism and give the emotion of remorse to the people affected

The Ethics of Online Medical Records
Abstract: This paper describes the ethical implications of developing a national online
medical database. Such a database would contain the lifetime health records of every
U.S. resident by combining information from a variety of sources. The advantages of
such a system are many, but in the end, the question remains whether patients want to
trade privacy for better healthcare.
A lonely ninety year old Chinese woman walks into a clinic. Without any medical
records, the physicians diagnose her with stroke, and she is immediately hospitalized.
Two days later, her son arrives at the hospital, apparently quite angry with the doctors.

Today, the medical records of most Americans are scattered across multiple clinics
and hospitals, possibly across several states. The task of piecing together a patient
s medical history can become quite time consuming and laborious, as the files first
need to be located and then faxed [5]. The possibility of combining medical records
into a central medical database would solve many of these problems, as well as
bring new benefits. With a shared medical database, doctors would have vital
information about a patient at their fingertips. Very little time would be lost in
looking for a patient s medical records and piecing the data together.
A shared medical database would save lives by providing accurate and complete
information to doctors, especially those not familiar with their patients. For instance,
if a person had a serious accident while vacationing in a different state, the doctors
there would have instant access to his medical records in his home state. Locating the
patient s family doctor and faxing the patient s medical history would be unnecessary.
If the patient has allergies to certain drugs, the doctors would be aware of it, thus
avoiding further complications [6]. With more complete information, doctors would
be given the power to treat an unfamiliar, out of state patients in a timely and effective
manner.
Sharing medical data would also enormously benefit organizations
Film Analysis Of Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans Introduction Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is
an inspirational feature film that retells the true story of a high school football team
that overcame racism to win the football championship. Set in Virginia during the
forced integration of high school districts in the American south, the film explores the
idea of racism, friendship and communication in sports through the use of camera
shots and angles, props, body language and juxtaposition. Yakin suggests that racist
attitudes are the product of ignorance, but can be overcome by communication and
friendship through the representation of Gary s girlfriend, Emma s change of attitude
toward Julius. Yakin s representation of Coach Boone... Show more content on

Furthermore, Yakin uses body language and a close up when Emma introduces
herself to Julius at the end of the film. Yakin s use of close up on Emma s
outstretched hand has the effect of symbolising Emma s change in attitude toward
Julius. Through Gary s example, Emma has become more tolerant and accepting
of Julius because she no longer subscribes to racial stereotypes about African
Americans. Clearly Yakin intends to condemn racist attitudes and reinforcing the
value of communications and friendship. As a result of his representation, the film
has positioned me to accept people even if someone has a different personality,
instead of being injustice and unfair. Body Paragraph #2 Remember the Titans
explores the idea of friendship through the use of camera angles and shots, props,
body language and lighting. During the sequence when Gary and Julius are telling
each other what they are doing wrong in the game, Yakin suggests that friendship
promotes tolerance and acceptance, and empowers people to achieve their goals as
well as overcome adversity. Yakin uses close up of the two players arguing,
showing their frustration and anger toward each other. Julius tells Gary Attitude

facial expression has the effect of representing Gary and Julius anger toward one
another, as both of them are frustrated
Culture And Sensitivity Of Bacteria
Culture and Sensitivity If your patient has an infection of any kind it s critical to
know which antibiotics will be effective against the particular pathogen or disease
causing agent. This means that the species and strain of bacteria, fungus, or other
pathogen must be identified and he drugs that will be the most effective at clearing
up the infection must be determined. The only way this can be done is by running a
culture and sensitivity test. Just keep in mind that there are many different types of
culture medias and hundreds of different sensitivity discs that correlate to different
drugs. A negative test on one of these media plates does not meant that there is
nothing there. Which is why a lot of clinics, like our own, run them in house and
also send them to a lab such as Idexx to have them run a more complete test there. A
culture is a specific test to find and identify organisms such as bacteriaor fungus, that
can cause an infection. A sensitivity test is a specific test that checks the results of
a culture to see what kind of medicine, commonly antibiotics, that will work best to
treat those organisms. A culture is made when a sample is added to a substance, or
Media that promotes the growth of fungus, bacteria, or whatever it is you are

Applying The Ends-Ways-Risk Framework
Critical requirements (CR) are conditions, resources and means that are essential for
a center of gravity to achieve its critical capability (Strange Iron, 2013, p. 7).
Applying the Ends Ways Means Risk framework again, critical requirements
represent the Means (i.e. things needed) a COG needs to facilitate a critical
capability. Critical requirements can be tangible or intangible. For example,
ammunition and fuel or having X number of tanks would be considered tangible
requirements while popular support or societal polarization would be considered
intangible. Ultimately, the physical nature of the CR is irrelevant provided it
facilitates a critical capability. It s important to note that critical requirements are not,

The Demon Haunted World And Silent Spring
In the books The Demon Haunted World and Silent Spring, the authors write about
large issues facing the public in the time period. Rachel Carson faces the issue of pest
control in the middle of the twentieth century. Insecticides are used in excess,
permeate the environment, and it is commonly accepted that they have no ill
consequences. Carson compiled the research of many scientists and showed, despite
fierce opposition, that insecticides pose a high risk of destroying the environment and
are harmful to humans. Carl Saganwrites about his concerns about the path society is

Carl Sagan s book The Demon Haunted World covers why people think the way they
do about paranormal claims, UFO s, and pseudoscience. Sagan demonstrates that the
pattern of thinking uncritically is not limited to fringe claims, but is practiced
throughout society to its detriment. Carl Sagan argues that it is critical that people
change their habits But if we don t practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot
hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us and we risk becoming a nation
of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along (Sagan 38). Peter
Barton Hutt and Gregory Frantz argue that corporations have abused the critical
faculties of Americans to promote a lifestyle of consumption and conformity to social
spending: In other words, the same human propensity for uncritical thought and
conformity that has historically been exploited by religions and governments is today
being capitalized upon by corporations to promote consumerism (Hutt 83). Their
position is reinforced by Sagan writing, throughout the book, that it is often profitable
to those who provide the beliefs for others and it is in their best interests to
discourage individual thoughts. Silent Spring is a detailed analysis of the damages
caused by pesticides to the environment. Rachel Carson explains that through the
blind, unquestioning consumer culture, companies have sold deadly poisons with

Literary Analysis In the book, The Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen, hunger
and the effects of hunger on the human body are a prevalent theme. There are many
examples throughout the book displaying the effects of hunger on humans mentally

human they are beyond terrible and no man should have the power to do this.
The mental effects of starvation become obvious from the onset of the book. We sit

underneath the rails. One of them finds some pieces of mildewed bread another a
few half rotten sardines. They eat. (34) This passage is an example of the delirium
hunger can cause. A person in his right mind set would not be desperate enough to eat
rotted and mildewed food. Another example occurs just a few short passages later
when the Greeks actions once again become animalistic. Around us sit the Greeks,

The sun hangs directly over our heads, the white, hot sky quivers, the air vibrates,
an occasional breeze feels like a sizzling blast from a furnace. Our lips are parched,
the mouth fills with salty taste of blood, the body is weak and heavy from lying
under the sun. Water! (37) In this passage, the writer communicates to the audience
the effects on the human body when it becomes malnourished. The slightest breeze
can cause pain when a body is without nutrition. When you are able to control the
amount of food a person is consuming, you also gain control of them physically.
When a body lacks nutrition, their bones will become visible and their skin will be
painful to the touch. Starvation is an awful form of torture. The amount of suffering

Comparing Louisiana Vodou And The Skeleton Key
The first ideas that may come to mind while discussing a topic such as Vodou are
things like voodoo dolls, human sacrifices, cannibalism, or witchcraft. These are all
ideas that have been fed to us by society throughout our lives. Currently, this now
affects everyone as a whole, due to society s consistent oppressive nature and its
influence upon everyone s ideologies. This then leads to misinforming, which
essentially leads to cultural ignorance. For example, many might not know that
Vodou is merely a religionwith multiple sub categories, one of them being Louisiana
Voodoo, who should not be mistaken for Haitian Vodou, which is a Haitian religion
derived from Yoruban and French influences as a form of resistance to oppression of
slavery in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done when looking at critiques of Haiti with consistent connection of religion
with the state as a whole. Most of the time, the poverty in Haiti is blamed on Vodou
and what its beliefs says about the people there altogether. By doing this, these
critiques are generalizing assumptions without considering Haiti s rich history and
how it multiple many different factors may affect the developmental status of the
country. Instead, they just assume the superstitious religion holds back Haitian
progress because in order to make the nation and its morals seem lesser than.
Furthermore, the focus on religion leaves room for critiques of it and how it is
involved with the country as a whole, in which the proposition is that Vodouists
follow the spiritual being that the Protestants believe is the enemy of God, Satan.
Vodou is viewed from within Protestantism s dualistic theological system.
(Hebblethwaite 6). This is yet another misconception that is created in order to seem
the religion seem terrible. In fact, these beliefs cannot even be proven, which shows
how making it seem Satanical is merely a reason to pick on the religion and to attract
others to do so as well. Furthermore, this gives the case that this makes them progress
resistant, especially due to America s religious influence upon their thriving

Portrayal Of The Middle East
that I could make love to whenever I wished. The point of this criticism is not to
say that men like that do not exist in the Middle East, but that when so many male
characters are portrayed in such a way it fails to contribute anything greater to the
study of the Middle East where parts of its history has already been tainted by
Orientalists and revisionists. Since Al Shaykh has already boldly challenged female
stereotypes in her novel it would possibly bode well if you managed to contest some
of the male stereotypes as well in an effort to break the mold that the Middle Easthas
been casted in. The second vantage point through which Al Shaykh shows the
Lebanese Civil War through is that of a political exile as shown by Uncle Hashem.
Since Hashem participated in a failed coup d Г©tat of the government he has been
exiled to an African country and forbidden from returning. Hashem s role as an
exile helps the reader understand how important love of country is to people in the
Middle East who have been exiled or have fled as refugees. Given Hashem s exile
status he needed to find a way to sublimate his profound feelings of love and
nostalgia for Lebanonand found his gateway in Zahra. Since Zahra was born and
raised in Lebanon, she was for Hashem a living memory of everything he had left
behind. For Hashem Zahra was not just a symbol of Lebanon, she was Lebanon. This
almost uncontrollable love of Lebanon is what partially forced Hashem to become so
physically attached to
The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves ...
The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves
To emphasize her viewpoint in The Waves, Woolf employs a distinctive style. She
interlocks the dramatic monologues of six characters at successive stages in their
lives to tell her story; and prefaces each of the sections with a descriptive passage of
sun and waves through a single day. In these passages descriptions of the sun, the sea,
the plants, and the birds make implicit comparisons with the characters speeches. The
actions of the birds in the descriptive passages most strikingly parallel the developing
consciousness of the characters, exemplified by Susan.
The birds developing singing abilities and early explorations parallel Susan s
experiences in childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
About to leave finishing school in Switzerland, Susan declares her hatred of the
unfamiliar I hate fir trees and mountains. Anticipating her return home, she asserts, I
cannot be divided, or kept apart (97) and describes the sensuous pleasures of home
and country life.
Further into the novel, the birds behavior corresponds to Susan s early adulthood,
her prime, and her middle age. The birds sing alone, stridently . . . as if the song
were urged out of them . . . as if the edge were being sharpened. They [descend] dry
beaked, ruthless, abrupt (109), soar in high flights, observe, sever upon
encountering a rock. Susan, hating London, comes dowdily dressed like a
creature dazed by the light of a lamp (119) to Percival s farewell dinner. At this
reunion she learns that Bernard, whom she loves, has become engaged. Susan
thinks that something irrevocable has happened. . . . We shall never flow freely
again (142). The sun rises to its full height; the birds passionate songs addressed to
one ear only (149) stop; they build nests. Word arrives that Percival, who has loved
Susan, has died in India. Susan, engaged to a farmer, shows momentary anger at the
news. The sun no longer stands in the middle of the sky; the birds sit still and pause
in their song as if glutted with sound, as if the fullness of midday had gorged them
(165). Susan sees the seasons
Postmodernism Has Changed The Representation Of
Women
This literature review will explore how and to what extent postmodernism has
changed the representation of women in images. Postmodernism was a time period
after modernism, being at the centre of culture. What is to be regarded as
postmodern, those things that are seen to occur as natural are in fact shaped by
humans, thus making it cultural. Postmodernismwas brought as a result from the 1960
s onwards, being a reaction against anti realism modernism. Feminist artists and
theorists have combined postmodernism with their own work in order to bring forth
the ideas surrounding that of, how cultural forms or representation within the mass
media are based around particular ideologies. When referring to representation, when
linking this with the works of the theories brought about by postmodernism, how we
see ourselves and how we construct the notions of ourselves are through the structure
of available images. Feminist theorypoints to how the construction of gender is an
effect of representation. The representation of women in images during the
postmodern era, could merit further investigation in order to inform of how women
from all over the world have been represented, whether it be regarding their race,
nationality, age or sexuality. Using a variety of texts, the main debates regarding this
topic will be explored through critiquing selected theorists in order to develop upon
my own research. The following academic writings will be referenced: Weedon
(1987), Williamson
Tonkin Gulf Resolution
In early August 1964, two U.S. destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam
radioed that they had been fired upon by North Vietnamese forces. The Gulf of
Tonkin Incident was a major turning point in the United States military involvement
in Vietnam. North Vietnamese warships had attacked United States warships, the
U.S.S. Maddox and the U.S.S. C. Turner Joy, on two separate occasions in the Gulf of
Tonkin. This action of violence from the North Vietnamese led to the passing of the
Tonkin Gulf Resolution. This resolution became the legal basis for the Johnson and
Nixon Administrations prosecution of the VietnamWar. Diem held control of the
South Vietnamese Government, but he could not halt the communist infiltration of
the South.
The Ideological Ambiguity Within The Media Essay
Everyone within a society has his or her own individual concerns in life. Some
people, however, are occasionally looked down more by others, depending on if their
problems are seriously destructive to the society or not. An often time in doing so,
these people are manipulated into a dominant ideology which represents arguments
about whether things are of optimistic or pessimistic standards in our civilization.
This set of central principles, ideology, produces particular manners and offer ethical
regulations by which one s dealings can be evaluated. In fact, the media production
business appears to be the focal resource that utilizes the governing beliefs by
constructing imaginary medium contacts, appealing to massive audiences to reflect...

The article The White of Their Eyes: Racist Ideologies and the Media, written by
Stuart Hall, Hall brings an attention to the perception of ideological ambiguity though
discovering the typical mass media s function of establishing racial inequities, such
as that the community accepts differential behaviors of people within the society as
common sense. He first starts on describing ideology as a term that does not consist
of individual thoughts, yet assembly of different basics that direct to a certain
judgment or perception. As said by Hall, the representation of race in the mass media
builds the positive and negative consequences of ideology by manufacturing and
transforming the ideologies. This ideological ambiguity is often shaped when the
mass media puts up a meaning of what race is for the audiences, what significance
the images of race conveys, and how the issue of race is supposed to be
recognized. In a straightforward phrase, mass media organizes our world as
regards to racial groups; placing people into categories based upon their physical
appearances and defined concepts that have been generally raised after a while. On
the other hand, what is really striking about Hall s argument on the ideological
ambiguity is that the importance of these conventional ideas of race cannot be
compared with the ground breaking portrays of traditional form of race for which
context is more appreciated or not in
Immigration Assimilation
America is largely made up of immigrants, and thus it is referred to by many as an
immigrant s nation. The rise in immigrants of the first generation and those of second
or third generation is changing the demographics of the United States each day.
Duncan and Stephen observe that about a quarter of U.S. residents are either first
generation immigrants or the second generation children of immigrants (109). Most
of these immigrants move to the country with the aim of achieving the American
dream through career success. We would like to believe that the nation follows
through with its American ideology that immigrants are welcomed with open arms,
and they will have economic opportunities. However, the process of integration and
assimilation of these immigrants has for long been a common debate question. The
immigration waves into the United Stateshave occurred in several waves over the
past years. In the earlier years, most of the immigrants were from Europe and their
assimilation was rather smooth. But, the recent wave of immigrants groups
prevalently from Asia and Latin America do not face similar acceptance and open
arms as their predecessors.
Additionally, the aspirations of most immigrants are that they will have upward
mobility when they get into the United States, but unfortunately, in several instances,
they may face unexpected downward mobility. Downward mobility may occur due to
many factors. The socioeconomic mobility of immigrants is largely determined by the

How To Write A Good Narrative Essay. Writing a Compelling Personal Narrative Essay: Tips and Examples ...

  • 1. How To Write A Good Narrative Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of writing a good narrative essay might initially appear deceptively simple, but delving into the process reveals a myriad of challenges. One must navigate through the labyrinth of narrative elements, ensuring a seamless blend of plot, characters, and setting. The task involves a delicate balance between creativity and structure, where the writer must weave a captivating story while adhering to the essay format. The challenge lies in capturing the reader's attention from the outset, establishing a strong thesis, and sustaining a compelling narrative throughout. Finding the right narrative voice, selecting vivid and evocative language, and maintaining coherence pose additional hurdles. It demands a keen understanding of storytelling techniques, pacing, and the art of building tension to create an immersive experience for the reader. Moreover, the writer must grapple with the paradox of conveying personal experiences while ensuring universality. Striking this delicate equilibrium requires honed writing skills and a deep appreciation for the nuanced nature of storytelling. The revision process further intensifies the difficulty. Revisiting one's own work with a critical eye, identifying weaknesses, and implementing improvements demand both objectivity and self- reflection. It is a test of resilience and commitment to refining the narrative until it reaches its zenith. In conclusion, crafting an essay on the nuances of composing a captivating narrative essay is not a straightforward endeavor. It involves mastering the art of storytelling, maintaining structural integrity, and honing the ability to engage readers on a profound level. While the task may seem formidable, the rewards lie in the mastery of a skill that transcends mere essay writing. Similar challenges can be tackled with the help of professional assistance. • 2. The Bourne Identity Essay The Bourne Identity In this essay, I compared the book, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and the film of the same name, directed by Doug Liman. The main character Jason Bourne was played by Matt Damon and Marie St. Jacques is played by Franka Potente. The book and movie were extremely different from each other. The book had more detail of the overall story, easier to comprehend and had character build up. While the movie seemed to only be interested in the action. I thought the book to be more fulfilling in its story and the movie to be predictable and tedious (considering I fell asleep). It didn t take long to notice they were completely different. I wasn t prepared for the movie to be so off from the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Washburn studied and made Jason Bourne wait until he thought he was fit to go out into the world, for instance he made him go on a fishing trip with the hardest fishing crew around to prove his was ready. As always, Jason Bourne proved he was ready for anything. Geoffrey Washburn was never seen or mentioned in the movie which like I said was a great disappointment, because that was the upbringing of Jason Bourne. He is partly responsible to creating the new Jason Bourne. He is also the a great help to Jason Bourne while he tries to find out who he was, and what he was. Another thing that is in the book, is the character Marie St. Jacques who was first Bourne s hostage. Who was in Swedish women working for the Canadian government. In the book she was very intelligent and sharp. She was able to escape from Bourne and then was caught by the cops. She was used by the cops to find Jason and once they found him, they tried to kill her. Though to her surprise Bourne had been following her and saved her. She then felt like she had to be by his side and help him find his identity and then quickly fell in love with him. None of what I said above happened in the film. In the film She was bribed into helping Bourne and was just a petty girl that needed cash to stay in Sweden. She liked Jason Bourne throughout the film from
  • 3. The Life And Accomplishments Of Franklin D. Roosevelt The United States of America had a very great leader during the years of 1933 1945. This man led our country and achieved many accomplishments and had many outstanding outcomes before and throughout his Presidency. I will address who Franklin D. Roosevelt was and his well known accomplishments and his last days as President in 1945. Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30th, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York to James and Sara Delano Roosevelt. He was the only child but had an older half brother, James Roosevelt from his father s first wife Rebecca Howland but she died in 1876. Roosevelt s stepmother died on September 7, 1941 and his father died four years later. Franklin married Eleanor Roosevelt on St. Patrick s Day March 17, 1905 in New York City. (Franklin D. Franklin was a well determined individual and wanted to accomplish so much that he even wanted to enlist in the armed forces, but President Wilson urged against it, citing his important service in the Navy Department. In 1920 the Democratic Party nominated Ohio Governor James M. Cox for President and Franklin D. Roosevelt for Vice President but unfortunately they lost and were defeated by Republicans Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge. He later was elected Governor of New York State in 1928 and 1930 for two two year terms. By 1932, Franklin D. • 4. Hoyt Sector Model The city that we modeled is Chicago, and what we noticed throughout our intense research was that Chicago most resembles the Sector Model. Hoyt s Sector Model is an urban city model describing urban land uses and patterns. In this model, social classes are separated by a series of sectors and or wedges which originate from the core, the central business district, and in the case of Chicago, the Chicago Loop . The blah blah blah of Chicago has lead to the formation of these characteristics that so closely resembles Hoyt s Model. Due to the United States westward expansion in the nineteenth century, Chicago became an ideal city site because of its location; it served as a water link between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, which fostered
  • 5. A Neat Sampling Strategy Based On Purposive Sampling Essay Sampling Davies initially planned to use a neat sampling strategy based on purposive sampling. The complexity of the study however, affected this strategy. It was mainly by connections Davies was able to expand her sample, some of the connections becoming participants in the study themselves, some of them working as points of contact (REFERENCE).Therefore, Davies used instead snowball and convenience sampling methods. When looking at sampling strength, the first thing that must be asked is whether the sample is representative of the population (Clark, 2003). Davies attempts to keep a balanced number of female/male proportion in the sample, however, the fact landmine work is a male dominated field made this impossible. Therefore, although the majority of the landmine action actors interviewed were male, this is in some way still representative of the studied population. Nevertheless, when interviewing villagers, Davies does manage to keep the numbers proportionate in terms of gender and age. Recruitment Davies selected a convenience sampling and, although not acknowledging so, a snowball sampling method, as most of the new participants she recruited were connections made by the previous participants (REFERENCE). One must therefore ask: is this sampling strategy appropriate? (Clark, 2003). When looking into the landmine action actors, the struggle finding potential participants within the research field is an understandable barrier. It must therefore be
  • 6. Lgbt LGBT Rights LGBT RIGHTS: ON THE USA AND BRAZIL 2 Introduction Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) issues have continuously triggered debates and controversies among various individual s across the globe. The rising concerns leading to the differences in opinions regarding LGBT emanate from the point of perceptions, cultural beliefs, religious values and political basis. Due to the dynamics of not accepting the existence of the LGBT peop le by some individuals in their communities, the LGBTs have found it hard to express themselves freely and enjoy equal rights just like a regular citizen should (Dolan, 2013). For instance, in the United States, the LGBT patients did not have visitation rights until a directive from the Whitehouse was issued. In some communities, extreme measures have been taken against individuals suspected to be lesbians or gays. Because of the way the public view the LGBT people, it is disheartening and traumatizing for most of them to come out and express themselves openly. Some have been forced to lead double standards. However, the situation has changed in different nations and states in America where laws and policies have been developed to support and protect the LGB T community. As a minority group, the LGBT community has struggled over the years to have their rights respected. Despite the existing disagreements surrounding the LGBT rights, several states in the United States of America and Brazil among others have demonstrated
  • 7. Vanishing Middle Class Essay Cherisse Diaz Professor Stewart ENC1101 11 July 2017 The Increase in Income and the Vanishing Middle class The majority of the the U.S. population identify themselves as being within the middle or working class. The socioeconomic group between the lower and upper classes. is much smaller than most think and is starting to decline. The large increase in income have reshaped the American middle class that most claim to be part of. Today s higher income of the American middle class family comes from the two parent income. This income is higher of those of past generations, however, over the past generation, the increase in income for the median earning family have not resulted in an improved lifestyle. The reason for life not improving for America s middle class is often misconstrued with over consumption or purchasing of unneeded items and services, but these activities are not the case for the middle class non improved quality of life. Revolving debt and the large increase in life s fixed expenses such as mortgage, health care, and child care, these factors are the main reasons for the increase in income for middle class families not resulting in an improved life quality. In the article the Vanishing Middle Class , the author Elizabeth Warren explains why and how America s middle class is facing many hardships today. These hardships are often linked to overconsumption of material items such as technology, home appliances and clothing. However, in Warren s article
  • 8. Examples Of Onomatopoeia In Dulce Et Decorum Est Owen explores battlefield experience through the gas attacks and mass slaughter that occurred in the World War 1. In Dulce et Decorum Est the soldier dies horribly because he doesn t get his gas mask on in time. Owen uses similes to describe the drowning and onomatopoeia to convey the sound. As under a green sea, I saw him drowning , Owen uses the simile to compare the soldier to a man burning and drowning to show the panic and awkward movement of a soldier in the green gas. Onomatopoeia creates sounds that are terrible and memorable through the words guttering, choking and drowning as the soldier is unable to breathe. The combination of similes and onomatopoeia creates a horrible picture of the battlefield experience through the panic,
  • 9. History And Culture Of The Dance Kayla RadfordAnnKassie TraNikki Morgan Dance History Final Paper Due: 4/20 History of Early Dance in France The culture I chose to research the dance history of was French dance culture prior to ballet and the different dances that were popular and possibly developed into ballet. I wanted to learn more about French dance history because I am half French from my mother s side of the family so I have always been fascinated with the culture especially the dance culture. I have also danced ballet all of my life starting at age four and have learned a lot about it and its origins so I thought it would be interesting to see what other dances were popular in France. Having this connection to my culture and my passion of dance is of great interest to me and I enjoyed learning so much about the dance culture on France and how it has developed over the years. Also it is fascinating to see what dances have survived today that are still preformed and danced and how other dances influenced each other to create new forms of dance. I mostly looked into court dances and what was popular in the earlier parts of France with higher society individuals and how those dances developed and either are still danced today or died out and developed into other dances particularly how they greatly influenced what we know today as ballroom dancing. The majority of France s cultural enhancement took place during the crusades. The crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by the Latin Roman Catholic
  • 10. Comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet... Comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet 138 by William Shakespeare I am comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell (1640) and Sonnet 138 by William Shakespeare (1590). The similarities between both poems are that they both use a certain amount of syllables throughout each poem. To His Coy Mistress uses 8 syllables per line, and Sonnet 138 uses 10 syllables per line. Another obvious similarity is that they both end with a couplet. They both also tell a story. The differences in the poems are that To His Coy Mistress is arguing why they should get on with life, and Carpe diem whereas Sonnet 138 is telling us about how he doesn t trust her, yet he loves her. I would spend all my life giving you everything you deserve and you could be in one place and me in another, but it wouldn t matter as time will never run out and we will always be in love. Marvell then goes on to say that he would have loved her before God sent the flood and that she could refuse him forever if that was what she wanted. And you should, if you please, refuse Till the conversion of the Jews This quote shows that she could say no to him for as long as she wanted, even until all the Jews were converted to be a Roman Catholic. At the time this seemed very unlikely, as Jews were being persecuted for their beliefs and refused to change their religion. Marvell then tells his lady that his love for her would grow and grow without ever dying out. My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires, and more slow In this line My vegetable love is a double entendre, because he is talking about himself but he is also saying that their love would develop naturally and grow to be bigger than the empire, but, it would be taken nice and slowly. In the next few lines he starts to praise her body by starting at the top. He praises her eyes and her forehead, as it was

The great dominance of Boeing is due to its 1997 merger with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, an aerospace manufacturer, and its 1996 purchase of the defense and space units of Rockwell International Corporation, an aerospace contractor. The corporation is the world s number one maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft with more than 9,000 commercial planes in service worldwide, including the 717 through 777 families of jets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, Boeing jets were involved in four fatal air accidents from December 1988 to March 1989, and the company missed its first delivery deadline in two decades when the 747 400 experienced production delays. These internal problems were exacerbated by increased competition from Airbus, which was heavily subsidized by a consortium of European companies and governments. Furthermore, worldwide orders of all aircraft by the airliners declined from 1,662 in 1989 to 439 in 1991. Fortunately, in 1993 NASA selected Boeing as the prime contractor for the International Space Station, which was called the largest international science and technology endeavor ever undertaken. Boeing was also becoming increasingly involved in commercial space projects and in December 1995 ten commercial space satellites were produced and launched from a floating platform at sea. In the middle of 1990 s, Boeing began its plan of acquisitions and in 1996 it paid $3.2 billion for the aerospace and defense holdings of Rockwell International which was responsible for the Space shuttle and International Space Station programs, as well as activities in launch systems, rocket engines, missiles, satellites and military airplanes. Furthermore, in 1997 Boeing completed a $14 billion acquisition of McDonnell Douglas which was the world s number three maker of commercial aircraft. The acquisition
  • 12. The Evolution Of Afric Evolution And Human Evolution Human evolution is the gradual process in which people, or Homo sapiens, originated from apelike ancestors. Scientific evidence, particularly in the form of fossils and secondary remains, show that the physical and behavioral traits shared by all people evolved over a period of approximately six million years. Humans are primates. Both genetic and physical similarities show that humans and the great apes (large apes) of Africa, chimpanzees (including bonobos, or so called pygmy chimpanzees ) and gorillas share a common ancestor that lived between 8 and 6 million years ago. The volume of fossils found in Africa suggests that most evolution occurred there and is likely the place of origin for early humans. This brings to fruition the out of Africa theory, also called the single origin hypothesis. The out of Africa theory implies that Anatomically modern humans evolved in East Africa between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago and began to disperse throughout the world roughly 70,000 to 135,000 years ago. In 2011, scientists came to the conclusion there were likely two major waves of migration out of Africa the Early northern Africa dispersal and Southern Route dispersal. The early northern Africa dispersal occurred 130,000 115,000 years ago, as a result of tropical Africa experiencing megadroughts, forcing humans towards the seashores for food and water. Certain groups attempted to cross over to other continents in search for viable living conditions, but many retreated or
  • 13. Summary Of Bertrand Russell s The Conquest Of Happiness Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher and mathematician throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics, with some of his most notable works being Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In Praise of Idleness. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematicaand Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for various pieces of writing he had published. He was also very openly pacifist, and even went to jail in 1918 for publicly encouraging anti war ideology during World War I. Russell is widely considered to be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness, discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness, including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the reasons why these are so effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached. The book overall preaches contentment rather than total elation, relaxation rather than constant excitement,

(Word maximum: 1,500) Freedom is an important concept in Western politics, strongly entwined as it is with ideas of liberalism. Yet, as suggested by the question, the concept is one which is hotly debated. Indeed, political agents attempt to control the political agenda through promotion of their particular definition. This essay will look at the ways freedom has been defined by different theorists over the years. It will also look at how freedom is linked with and explained through different theo ries and ideologies. It will then go on to look at how these different theories and ideologies may shape the conceptions of freedom we find in our daily lives. Different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This approach may be considered stifling of both innovation and effort, since anything above the average will not be rewarded. By contrast, if equality of opportunity is achieved, then some will accumulate more wealth and power than others, giving them effectively more freedom. John Rawls (1971, cited in Middleton, 2005) introduced two principles of justice, the first of which was that each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar liberty for others . Rawls attempted to address the question of inequality through the second of his principles: the difference principle . In this he said that it was acceptable for some to be better off than others as long as by doing so the poorest people also benefitted in some way. In other words, inequality was acceptable if some of the extra benefit were redistributed to those most in need. This approach is an example of positive freedom. However, Isaiah Berlin (1969, cited in Smith, 2005), known as a chief architect of theories of positive and negative freedom, saw dangers in this approach too. He argued that it was wrong to ascribe to individuals a set of common needs and desires. Moreover, he considered that the surrender of individual freedom for collective self rule could result in individual rights being violated. He concluded that a measure of both
  • 17. The Everyday Is Important For Sociological Research This essay will argue that the setting of the everyday is important for sociological research. Through its investigation it becomes evident how various types of social structures and institutions have an ability to influence behaviours and emotions of individuals. The sociological research of the everyday covers a diverse range of theories, as individuals live and conduct themselves by various standards, contexts, and structures (Heller, 1984, p. 3), and it is this kind of interaction that is taken for granted and thus in need of exploration. It is through the examination of the socialisation occurring in the everyday between individuals, institutions, rules, and culture, that it becomes evident that the obvious is often not so obvious (Newman et al., 2013). This essay utilises the sociological imagination to express this importance of the everyday through the exploration of three aspects of socialisation, these being employment, mass media, and social deviance. It is these kinds of socialisations occurring in the everyday that illustrate how social structures and institutions influence behaviours and emotions, and hence also prove the everyday as an important setting for sociological research. Have you ever wondered whether your thoughts and feelings are your own? (Gavin Smith) It is through the sociological research of the events and happenings in the everyday that this important question can be and is addressed quite repetitively. First, however in order to

Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written by a man could illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have been foreign. Yet such a novel exists, one that spins a web of morality and human frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a thousand questions in their mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the task of creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as reveal the Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing the serial The Portrait of a Lady in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against conventionalism, more expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and womanhood. His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to a high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his interpretation of the dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In fact, he creates several female characters, all of whom are manifestations of the different lives women could inhabit during the Victorian era. In addition, the aforementioned characters are refreshingly three dimensional. Their flaws do not diminish the story in fact, those defaults enhance the plot. James depiction of a woman s life and choices is then embodied in the frequently discussed ending of the novel. The

If imitation has effected the design of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns, how is this change seen? What relationships can be seen between the human body and the Ancient Greek columns? This essay will initially look at the period prior to 620 BC to see if there is any evidence to suggest that the ancient Greeks may have imitated another civilizations designs to create the three architectural orders that Vitruviuswrote about in his Ten Books of Architecture. The next part of this essay will look at each of the three columns to discuss their virtues in relation to proportionality, structure and visual imitation. The oldest of the ancient Greek classical orders is the Doric order. The creation of the Doric order has been traced back to the ancient Greek Dorian tribe. It has been written by Anderson that after the Dorian tribe took control of the Peloponnesos area of Greece in 1100 BC they then expanded into every part of Greece kingdom including Crete. This would have given the Dorian s access to the ruins of the Knossos Palace from the Minoan civilization. One of the most notable contributions of Minoans was their unique column design. This column was different to the Greek columns as it was wider at the bottom than the top. It was suggested by Adams that the columns of Knossos were installed in this direction to ensure the trees didn t take root.

A contract of employment is an agreement between an employer and employee, forming the basis of an employment relationship; enforceable by law. In other words he was agreeing that the document accurately represented the terms of the employment, he had signed what he acknowledged to be a written contract. Clearly demonstrating that a document that is not itself contractual can be incorporated into a contract, it is thus possible for what would normally be a section 1 statement to be transformed into a formal written contract by the parties signing it . From previous preliminary work I know that reagents, for example detergents and alcohol alter the arrangement of the phospholipids in the membrane allowing substances to leak out of the cell. Temperature also affects the membrane. As membranes relay on protein molecules to allow molecules to enter and leave the cell through facilitated diffusion the temperature must not exceed the approximate temperature of 50В°C as at roughly this temperature proteins are denatured. Treatment Options For Excoriation Disorder Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder Sarah Rebecca Carter Auburn University School of Nursing Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder Excoriation disorder, also known as skin picking disorder, is characterized by the frequent scratching or picking of the skin. Picking most commonly occurs in areas of the body that the patient can reach, such as the arms, inner thighs, face, fingers, and upper back (Turner, Sutton, Sharma, 2014). The incessant skin picking can cause physical and/or psychosocial damage, including scabs, scars, open wounds, infection, shame, embarrassment, and social isolation. Skin picking disorder is more common in females, with picking episodes lasting anywhere from five minutes to twelve hours per day (Gelinas Gagnon, 2013). Patients who are diagnosed with excoriation disorder are often also diagnosed with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders (Capriotti, Ely, Snorrason, Woods, 2015). • 36. Essay on Internet The Ethics of Online Medical Records Abstract: This paper describes the ethical implications of developing a national online medical database. Such a database would contain the lifetime health records of every U.S. resident by combining information from a variety of sources. The advantages of such a system are many, but in the end, the question remains whether patients want to trade privacy for better healthcare. A lonely ninety year old Chinese woman walks into a clinic. Without any medical records, the physicians diagnose her with stroke, and she is immediately hospitalized. Two days later, her son arrives at the hospital, apparently quite angry with the doctors. He informs the physicians that her mother has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, the medical records of most Americans are scattered across multiple clinics and hospitals, possibly across several states. The task of piecing together a patient s medical history can become quite time consuming and laborious, as the files first need to be located and then faxed [5]. The possibility of combining medical records into a central medical database would solve many of these problems, as well as bring new benefits. With a shared medical database, doctors would have vital information about a patient at their fingertips. Very little time would be lost in looking for a patient s medical records and piecing the data together. A shared medical database would save lives by providing accurate and complete information to doctors, especially those not familiar with their patients. For instance, if a person had a serious accident while vacationing in a different state, the doctors there would have instant access to his medical records in his home state. Locating the patient s family doctor and faxing the patient s medical history would be unnecessary. If the patient has allergies to certain drugs, the doctors would be aware of it, thus avoiding further complications [6]. With more complete information, doctors would be given the power to treat an unfamiliar, out of state patients in a timely and effective manner. Sharing medical data would also enormously benefit organizations
  • 37. Film Analysis Of Remember The Titans Remember the Titans Introduction Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is an inspirational feature film that retells the true story of a high school football team that overcame racism to win the football championship. Set in Virginia during the forced integration of high school districts in the American south, the film explores the idea of racism, friendship and communication in sports through the use of camera shots and angles, props, body language and juxtaposition. Yakin suggests that racist attitudes are the product of ignorance, but can be overcome by communication and friendship through the representation of Gary s girlfriend, Emma s change of attitude toward Julius. Yakin s use of close up on Emma s outstretched hand has the effect of symbolising Emma s change in attitude toward Julius. Through Gary s example, Emma has become more tolerant and accepting of Julius because she no longer subscribes to racial stereotypes about African Americans. Clearly Yakin intends to condemn racist attitudes and reinforcing the value of communications and friendship. As a result of his representation, the film has positioned me to accept people even if someone has a different personality, instead of being injustice and unfair. Body Paragraph #2 Remember the Titans explores the idea of friendship through the use of camera angles and shots, props, body language and lighting. During the sequence when Gary and Julius are telling each other what they are doing wrong in the game, Yakin suggests that friendship promotes tolerance and acceptance, and empowers people to achieve their goals as well as overcome adversity. Yakin uses close up of the two players arguing, showing their frustration and anger toward each other. Julius tells Gary Attitude reflects leadership. Taking his advice the next day, Gary and the others played well because they learned to play like an actual team. Yakin s use of body language and facial expression has the effect of representing Gary and Julius anger toward one another, as both of them are frustrated
  • 38. Culture And Sensitivity Of Bacteria Culture and Sensitivity If your patient has an infection of any kind it s critical to know which antibiotics will be effective against the particular pathogen or disease causing agent. This means that the species and strain of bacteria, fungus, or other pathogen must be identified and he drugs that will be the most effective at clearing up the infection must be determined. The only way this can be done is by running a culture and sensitivity test. Just keep in mind that there are many different types of culture medias and hundreds of different sensitivity discs that correlate to different drugs. A negative test on one of these media plates does not meant that there is nothing there. Which is why a lot of clinics, like our own, run them in house and also send them to a lab such as Idexx to have them run a more complete test there. A culture is a specific test to find and identify organisms such as bacteriaor fungus, that can cause an infection. A sensitivity test is a specific test that checks the results of a culture to see what kind of medicine, commonly antibiotics, that will work best to treat those organisms. A culture is made when a sample is added to a substance, or Media that promotes the growth of fungus, bacteria, or whatever it is you are looking for. There are different types of media for different types of tests, but the most common type of plate is called an AGAR plate, which is made up of a nutrient substance gel derived from algae. Sagan demonstrates that the pattern of thinking uncritically is not limited to fringe claims, but is practiced throughout society to its detriment. Carl Sagan argues that it is critical that people change their habits But if we don t practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us and we risk becoming a nation of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along (Sagan 38). Peter Barton Hutt and Gregory Frantz argue that corporations have abused the critical faculties of Americans to promote a lifestyle of consumption and conformity to social spending: In other words, the same human propensity for uncritical thought and conformity that has historically been exploited by religions and governments is today being capitalized upon by corporations to promote consumerism (Hutt 83). Their position is reinforced by Sagan writing, throughout the book, that it is often profitable to those who provide the beliefs for others and it is in their best interests to discourage individual thoughts. Silent Spring is a detailed analysis of the damages caused by pesticides to the environment. Rachel Carson explains that through the blind, unquestioning consumer culture, companies have sold deadly poisons with unapparent warning as a catch all cure for any

The point of this criticism is not to say that men like that do not exist in the Middle East, but that when so many male characters are portrayed in such a way it fails to contribute anything greater to the study of the Middle East where parts of its history has already been tainted by Orientalists and revisionists. Since Al Shaykh has already boldly challenged female stereotypes in her novel it would possibly bode well if you managed to contest some of the male stereotypes as well in an effort to break the mold that the Middle Easthas been casted in. The second vantage point through which Al Shaykh shows the Lebanese Civil War through is that of a political exile as shown by Uncle Hashem. Since Hashem participated in a failed coup d Г©tat of the government he has been exiled to an African country and forbidden from returning. Hashem s role as an exile helps the reader understand how important love of country is to people in the Middle East who have been exiled or have fled as refugees. Postmodernism was a time period after modernism, being at the centre of culture. What is to be regarded as postmodern, those things that are seen to occur as natural are in fact shaped by humans, thus making it cultural. Postmodernismwas brought as a result from the 1960 s onwards, being a reaction against anti realism modernism. Feminist artists and theorists have combined postmodernism with their own work in order to bring forth the ideas surrounding that of, how cultural forms or representation within the mass media are based around particular ideologies. The article The White of Their Eyes: Racist Ideologies and the Media, written by Stuart Hall, Hall brings an attention to the perception of ideological ambiguity though discovering the typical mass media s function of establishing racial inequities, such as that the community accepts differential behaviors of people within the society as common sense. He first starts on describing ideology as a term that does not consist of individual thoughts, yet assembly of different basics that direct to a certain judgment or perception. As said by Hall, the representation of race in the mass media builds the positive and negative consequences of ideology by manufacturing and transforming the ideologies. This ideological ambiguity is often shaped when the mass media puts up a meaning of what race is for the audiences, what significance the images of race conveys, and how the issue of race is supposed to be recognized. In a straightforward phrase, mass media organizes our world as regards to racial groups; placing people into categories based upon their physical appearances and defined concepts that have been generally raised after a while. On the other hand, what is really striking about Hall s argument on the ideological ambiguity is that the importance of these conventional ideas of race cannot be compared with the ground breaking portrays of traditional form of race for which context is more appreciated or not in

Most of these immigrants move to the country with the aim of achieving the American dream through career success. We would like to believe that the nation follows through with its American ideology that immigrants are welcomed with open arms, and they will have economic opportunities. However, the process of integration and assimilation of these immigrants has for long been a common debate question.
