2. A Person s Environment Is The Same Opportunity At The
End...
Every person struggle is different. Some have worked sweat and tears for their
achievements while others have had things just handed to them and do not really
know the struggle of hard work. Some people work as hard as they can and at the
end of the day, they still cannot seem to succeed, as they would like to. They can
work hard, live a good legal life, and yet still cannot make ends meet at the end of the
day. The film Trading places, and the Not everybody in America has the same
opportunity to be successful because one person s environment may be much
rougher than another person environment. A person s environment is a key factor
in their success. A person born into poverty is going to have a much harder time to
get ahead than a person that is born into a wealthy family or environment. It is as if
they are already in a negative situation before they even have a chance to begin life.
A person born into poverty doesn t have that extra time to do homework at home
because they might have to be home taking care of other siblings while guardians are
at work. Sometimes they might not even be at home babysitting; they might have to
get a job themselves because the money situation is so tight at home. While a person
born to a wealthier family has that extra time to study, that person has the extra time
to participate in extracurricular activities that might be a key to success. They do not
have to worry about little things, which allow them to concentrate all of their time,
3. The Jazz Age By Toni Morrison
The 1920 s in American history seem to be very exciting. It was the height of the
Harlem Renaissance, where African American literature, poetry, art and music
emerged. You had all this African American talent growing and blasting into the
mainstream. Historians refer to this time period as The Jazz Age . When jazzmusic
was introduced to the public at clubs and dance halls it took off! People were
either captivated by it, or appalled by it. Jazz was all about movement; it was
driven by syncopation and improvisation, and for some it was considered the devil
s music. The novel Jazz by Toni Morrison allows you to wonder down the seductive
streets of Harlem where it all began. The book gives a sense of both the scandal of

The beginning as exciting as it may seem, it is just a piece necessary to get you to
keep wanting more. With this basic plot put into place or melody in this case a
jazz soloist would improvise his music. Almost just as the author seems to
improvise in Jazz, constantly reinventing, re harmonizing, and shifting back and
forth through various characters throughout the book. As the narrator of the novel
sets up the basic theme, one by one, other characters are introduced, putting their
own spin on what has happened, and allowing the reader to relive the experience
through their perspective; thus, the variations on the theme. Its clear the novel
structure borrows deeply from jazz music. When a jazz player did there solo he
/she would interpret the beat differently and play ones own perception of the
music. It would seduce people with its sexiness and spur women like Dorcas or
make old women clutch their pearls, like Alice. This is the kind of drama where
only the Jazz Era can provide the cheating spouses, the willful women, people with
knives and guns and illegitimate children. The Jazz music within the novel even
depicts the very environment the book takes place. Both the City and the woods of
Virginia are described as having their own music and rhythm and the pace of the
narrator s storytelling ranges from upbeat and fast to slow and bluesy.
4. Human Nature Summary
An author, introduced as a phycologist has revealed that human nature is unique
and are easily influenced by each other which help them to shape and built social
practices, to create different ambience to follow belief as well as to have
suggestibility which can induce a normal person. Human beings are not only
effected by other s behaviour but also by all those social sciences which have been
observed and been practised. As a citizen, an individual should focus on their study to
show themselves as the best humanbeing from their role on the society and their
contribution for the place where they live in. In this story, an author has also
explained about his observation done between college students. The college students
were asked to give their opinions on various matter like choices which, resulted with
argumentative situation opposing to their own opinions, many subjects apparently
shifted their judgments in the direction of the views of majority or experts. The sheer
weight of number or authority sufficed to change opinion, even when no arguments
for the opinions themselves were provided. There is some reason to wonder whether
it was not the investigation who, in their enthusiasm for a theory, were suggestible
and whether the seemingly gullible subjects were not providing answers which they
thought were good subjects to discuss. The author describes a series of experiment
which have not only confirmed the finding that group pressure can shape opinion, but
also raised
5. The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay
It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private
sector, but it seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are
even criminally charged. There is certainly a different take on their activities. In
fact, some advocates counsel federal employees not to come forward with
information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed (Shulman, 2007). What
often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again in the
same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but
they lose their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to
attorneys (Shulman, 2007). Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of
whistleblowers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a
corporate culture that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are
whistle blowing statutes in many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to
report illegal activity and will be protected from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed,
whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in general as the government wants
people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are doing something
bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different matter
entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the
Intelligence Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a
whistleblower of leaking classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to
occur, the simple accusation could lead to the individual s blocking of access to
federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in retirement (Burghardt, 2011).
One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is Thomas Drake.
Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The
government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one
misdemeanor in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What
did Drake do exactly? Why is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he
been persecuted by the government? Drake warned the

Sex Addiction
Addiction, a compulsive psychological need for a habit forming substance according

sex addict needs progressively more and more explicit pornographic material in order
to become aroused. Their behavior becomes centered on different sexual experiences
and the desire to attain them. The person cannot control their sexual appetites

A more commonly known approach towards diagnosing the addiction explores
childhood experiences. Many affected people were subject to sexual abuse from a
parent, baby sitter, or another older person when they were younger. This
inappropriate introduction induces feelings of shame and fear that surround sexual
activities for these people (4). A chaotic, hostile, or neglectful household can also be
a factor driving a person towards sex addiction. The person will use sex or
masturbation for comfort and will equate the two with each other. These arguments
suggest a nurture aspect to the problem because it arises as a response to their
environment. Outside forces act to develop the people into addicts. Childhood is an
extremely impressionable period and in the circumstances the dangerous forces push
a child towards harmful behaviors.
Sex addiction becomes an overriding power in a person s life and takes it out of
their control. Their behavior deviates from the norm, but in such a way that it is
unnoticeable by relatives or loved ones because it is so secretive. Typical actions of a
sex addict include: compulsive masturbation, multiple affairs outside of a marriage,
consistent use of pornography, practice of unsafe sex, sexual anorexia, multiple
anonymous partners, phone or cybersex, sexual massages, escorts, prostitutes, and
prostitution (2). There are also manifestations within the act of sex itself

Multiple studies demonstrate a relationship between lower patient to nurse ratios
and improved patient outcomes (Garrett, 2008; Penoyer, 2010; Unruh, 2008).
Patient outcomes addressed in the various studies included falls, infections, length
of stay, mortality, patient safety, patient satisfaction, postoperative complications,
pressure ulcers, quality of care and unplanned extubation with reintubation. A 2004
report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) stated that
adverse events can increase the cost of a total treatment by 84%, length of stay by
5.1 to 5.4 days and probability of death by 4.67% to 5.5% (Garrett, 2008). This is a
sobering statistic: the odds of a patient dying in hospitals with an average workload
of 8 patients per nurse are 1.26 times greater than in hospitals where the mean
workloads of 4 patients per nurse (Aiken, Clarke, Sloane, Lake amp; Cheney,
2008). A rubber band can only stretch so far before it breaks. It would follow that
attempts to improve patient care must address adequate patient to nurse ratios and
workload. If we know that adequate staffing levels will improve patient outcomes,
how do we get there? Are mandated patient to nurse ratios the answer? The people of
the state of California thought so in 2004, with the passage of Bill
9. The Pros And Cons Of Quarterbacks
There have always been stiff arguments between sports team devotees as to who s
quarterback really brings the goods to the table. The argument for who truly
clenches the crown of being named the GOAT, or great of all time, is surely not one
to be taken lightly by any means whatsoever. After all, this is the title any quarterback
in history has ever labored their entire life for just the chance to claim. While Peyton
Manning, Drew Brees, and Joe Montana are all pretty high on the totem pole, a totem
pole that stands colossal and robust, only one Quarterback can truly be named the
GOAT. The only Quarterback who truly possesses the firepower to claim this title is
none other than the most prominent; Tom Brady. Now for one to sit upon such a high

11. Independence and the Development of the American
Identity...
During the 1800s, we find the theme of independence, or freedom from outside
constraints, in the development of two different frontiers. We find it in the American
West through Manifest Destiny, freedom from caste, and in the chance that
homesteaders had to acquire virtually free land. We find independence in math
through in the building of stronger theoretical foundations, non Euclidean geometries,
and Cantor s infinities.
Independence involves breaking from the commonly accepted, traditional views in
order to explore the new. It is not necessarily individual people working alone. We
can see independence in a community of thought as well as in the work of a single
person.

In the 1880s, Hulda Rocell and her daughter Mary emigrated from Sweden to the
United States. Abe Lincoln had just been shot. Mr. Rocell had to stay in Sweden
because of his tuberculosis. Nevertheless, Mr. Rocell said, Go to the United States. It
is strong enough that Lincoln s assassination will not plummet the nation into chaos.
Although he did not place this optimism under the title of Manifest Destiny, the idea
that the United States is strong, and will continue despite opposition, is a part of this
concept.
Hulda married, and her family settled in a sod house in northern Minnesota. Her
husband showed independence and determination for the family to survive by
planting fruit trees on the farm. It was highly unusual to attempt to plant fruit trees
that far north.
The family s independent spirit, and courage was a vital part of surviving in the
harsh conditions they encountered. In 1881, there was a terrible blizzard. The
snow was so high that it covered the fence posts. Father tied a rope around his
waist and the porch post to tend the animals in a nearby shed, so that he would not
get lost in the blizzard. However, many neighbors froze to death right outside their
own front doors. During the storm, the wind blew the door of the sod house open.
The younger children got in the trundle bed to keep warm, while the parents and
older children shoveled snow out of the house for the rest of the day, so that they
could shut the
12. Netflix Technological Advancements
Technological advancements in the television industry over the past decades have
changed the way people watch movies and television. The first successful movie
rental store that allowed people to watch in the comfort of their home was
Blockbuster in 1985 (Kaplan 2011). Netflix re invented the movie rental industry
in 1999 becoming more personalised and less of a linear TV experiences. (Kaplan

via the Internet and watch on any compatible device (TV, computer, mobiles, etc.)
due to these technological advancements. This essay analyses the outcomes of
Blockbuster and Netflix by assessing their effectiveness to plan, organise, lead, and
control (Waddell, Jones and George 2013, 7).
Planning is an essential function to predict and prepare for any current and future
advancement with goals to achieve (Anyim, Mba and Ekwoaba 2012, 56). The
process of planning consists of three elements; deciding the organisational goals to
attain, the strategies, and how to allocate the organisational resources to attain these
goals (Waddell, Jones, and George 2011, 7).
Netflix has been able to maintain their organisational goal of innovation by creating
flexible programs, catering to consumer wants and needs, and continually keeping a
global competitive advantage (Liu, Magjuka and Lee 2008, 77). Netflix has planned
effectively as potential target markets would have been researched and finding of the

Introduction/Purpose/Objective Professionalism in nursing provides an important
framework for the continual development and advancement in the nursing profession.
As healthcare providers, nurses are held to high standards of practice for providing
safe, effective, evidence based care to clients. As the healthcare system continuously
advances, the level of professionalism becomes crucially imperative to nurses and
other professionals. Throughout the years nursing has continuously been regarded as
one of the most trusted professions. As a result of this significant rating, it s
important for nurses to maintain integrity and honesty while upholding the core
values of their respective institutions to provide safe and effective patient centered
care (Olshansky, 2011, p. 193). As healthcare professionals, nurses must strive to
incorporate humanistic qualities such as integrity, honesty and compassion into their
respective field of practice. When nurses exhibit a sense of openness and trust into
their patient care, clients can have a sense of assurance that they re in safe hands,
gaining the client s trust paves the way for the client to trust their nurse as an
advocate who has their best interest. Nurses act as advocates for their clients, and
therefore, have a responsibility to voice their concerns when it comes to providing
quality care to their clients. Patient advocacy stems from the fact that they may need
extra support in order to secure their choices for

On Being Human
Merriam Webster Online defines dehumanization as, to deprive of human qualities,
personality, or spirit (Merriam Webster) This means that a person is denied their own
personal opinions, characteristics, or dreams, in favor of another person overriding
them in favor of their own or for none. Deprivation of these things separates an
individual from the fact that there is a person that is being dealt with in a given
situation. This dehumanization can take place for a variety of reasons, ranging from
self loathing and an unfulfilling existence to an attempt to distance oneself from an
undesirable event or occurrence. It can also range from an overt set of actions as a
person is changed, to willful ignorance, malicious or otherwise, of an individual s
dreams or goals.
Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis , in which the main character, Gregor Samsa,
awakens to find himself changed, contains several obvious examples of this
dehumanization. He has become vermin of some kind, no longer even human.
Deprived even of basic human form, and transfigured into a repulsive creature, this
might be the simplest form of dehumanization that can be displayed. As obvious as
this display, it may simply be an overt example of Gregor s own disgust with himself.
Rather than an actual transformation, the metamorphosis of the title is Gregor s
personal viewpoint of himself as being without worth or value. His behavior becomes

Overwhelming fatigue can eventually lead to job burnout. In several studies,
nurses have reported that they only get an average of five and a half hours of sleep
or less in between consecutive shifts (Geiger Brown, Rogers, Trinkoff, Kane,
Barker Bausell, and Scharf, 2012), leading to sleep deprivation (Knoll, 2013).
Furthermore, many have also reported that the amount of sleep they got was not
enough to help them recover from the previous shift, leaving them feeling
increasingly tired with each consecutive shift worked (Geiger Brown et al., 2012).
The stress and fatigue nurses experience on a daily basis can have devastatingly
long term effects on their health. Nurses who work long or extended shifts tend to
have a higher risk for heart related complications such as hypertension and heart

Chinese government owns and controls the three major basic telecom operators and

as promoting indigenous standards for network equipment. The reason for Chinese

22. Design Of A Smart Blind Stick
Since centuries, mobility have been the provocative issue for blind people or
partially sighted people. Everybody including blind people needs to move. Hence
there are some limitations with such devices as they are not much efficient. With the
advancement of technology, several prototypes have been developed for blind
assistance. They are usually known as blind stick. For the betterment of Pakistan and
third worldcountries which are least developed proposing a user friendly and cost
effective electronic embedded blind stick keeping in mind the limited resources. The
significant design of this smart blind stick is the use of a reflective technique that is
known as diffuse scanning method that is cost effective and will also only help in
rehabilitation of blind individuals all around the world especially in poor countries
where rehabilitation is quite limited to specific individuals.
Significant components used are IR emitter, IR receiver, potentiometer and amplifier
to form prime photo electric sensor. Along with it DC battery, power switch and
buzzer is connected in the blind stick.
A photoelectric sensor is a device that senses a change in light beam intensity.
Characteristically, this means either non detection or detection of the sensor s emitted

target is detected varies accordingly.
It is sometimes called proximity mode. For application of this mode, the transmitter

Geisel s literacy expresses remarkable views on a variety of moralistic issues.
Dr.Seuss s The Lorax (1971) was published at the beginning of the environmental
movement (Lebduska, 1994). The Lorax was Dr. Seuss personal favourite of all his
books. He created a story addressing economic and environmental issues without it
being dull and driveling. The Lorax, he once explained, came out of me being angry.
In The Lorax I was out to attack what I think are evil things and let the chips fall
where they might (Lebduska, 1994, p.170). The plot is recited from a simple yet
environmentally accurate viewpoint. It demonstrates the conflict between natural
resources and man made production, which is the central conflict in the book.
The story begins with the Once ler, informing the reader of the local natural history
of the now world and how it was once home to the Lorax. The Onceler discloses to
us that the Lorax can speak for the trees because tress have no tongues. The Once ler
has greedily taken advantage of this natural habitat, which was once home to the

The banyan tree grows throughout Cambodia. It may reach a height of over 100
feet, and as it grows, new roots descend from its branches, pushing into the ground
and forming new trunks. The roots grow relentlessly; many of the ancient temples of
Angkor have toppled as these roots have become embedded in the cracks and
crevices between their massive stones. A single tree might have dozens of trunks, and
it is often impossible to tell which is the original.

The French quickly usurped all but ceremonial powers from the monarch, Norodom.
When he died in 1904, the French passed over his sons and handed the throne to his
brother, Sisowath. Sisowath and his son ruled until 1941, when Norodom Sihanouk
was elevated to power. Sihanouk s coronation, along with the Japanese occupation
during the war, worked to reinforce a sentiment among Cambodians that the region
should be free from outside control. After World War II, Cambodians sought
independence, but France was reluctant to part with its colony. Cambodia was
granted independence within the French Union in 1949. But the French Indochinese
War provided an opportunity for Sihanouk to gain full military control of the country.
In 1953, Cambodia managed to gain their independence in spite of World War II and

Tablet Assignment A tablet is assigned to one tablet server at any point of time.
The master is responsible to keep track of the set of live tablet servers, and the
current assignment of tablets to tablet servers, including which tablets are
unassigned. If a tablet is unassigned, and place is available in a tablet server; the
master assigns the tablet by sending a tablet load request to the tablet server.
Chubby keep track of tablet servers. When a tablet server starts, it creates, and
acquires an exclusive lock on, a uniquely named file in a specific Chubby directory.
The master monitors this directory (the server s directory) to discover tablet servers.
Whenever a master is started by the Bigtable cluster management system, it executes
the following steps to discover the current tablet assignments (1) The master grabs a
unique master lock in Chubby, which prevents con current master instantiations. (2)
The master scans the server s directory in Chubby to find the live servers. (3) The
master communicates with every live tablet server to discover what tablets are
already assigned to each server. (4) The master scans the METADATA table to learn
the set of tablets. (5) Builds a set of unassigned tablet, which are become eligible for
assignment. Tablet splits are treated specially since a tablet server initiates them. The
tablet server commits the split by recording information for the new tablet in the
METADATA table. When the split has committed, it notifies the master.

The Meaning of Vertical and Horizontal Integration
Horizontal integration is where an organisation owns two or more companies, on the
same level of the buying chain. An example of this is the First Choice Group; they
own First Choice Travel Agencyand
First Choice Hypermarket, both of which are on the same level of the buying chain.
The advantage of horizontal integration is that it can increase the company s market
share. Another good example of this type of integration is when EasyJet purchased

If the travel agent doesn t wish to accept the offer, they may lose a lot of business,
as they are not selling as many products, to cater for the customers needs.
Independent travel agents are being seriously affected by integration, big companies
such as First Choice, are controlling the amount of commission travel agents receive.
They are also losing commission as tour operators and airlines are selling their
products and services direct on the Internet. Older customers still prefer to use high
street travel agents as they may not know how to use the Internet or would like the
reassurance of booking in person. Travel agents are having to change to meet the
needs of the customer, and are turning to the niche market to make commission.
Airlines have also been affected by integration, British Airways wanted to merge with
American Airlines, but IATA declined their proposal, as they would be able to
dominate the pricing of transatlantic flights from the UK.
Horizontal and vertical integration has reduced competition within the industry, as
more organisations are buying each other out to expand due to the demand that is
being received from the public for their products and services. Companies that are
integrating are able to set the price, and smaller companies such as Collette
Worldwide Holidays, will be unable to compete. The risk that larger

28. The Compassion Of Jesus In The Gospel Of Matthew
In the gospel of Matthew, the disciple portrays Jesus as compassionate. This
portrayal of Jesus aids us in discovering who Jesus is, and in our application of this
portrayal to our image of Christ. We can see this portrayal by His words, acts, and
miracle works.
The compassion of Jesus shows through his heart for healing. The first depiction of
his compassion is in the verse Matthew 4:23. As Jesus traveled throughout the region
of Galilee preaching, He also healed those suffering from disease and illness.
Followers would bring people inflicted by sickness and the scripture says that, he
healed them all. Here Jesus has a portrayal as a healer, taking compassion on those
inflicted by sickness. Another example of Jesus s compassion shown through his
actions is in Matthew 8:1 4, as He heals the man with leprosy. In front of a large

This depiction comes to pass in the gospel of Mark, as he portrays Jesus as the
Suffering Servant. The entire idea of a Messiah, the Son of God, suffering, goes
against the thought of a King being the one served. Through the gospel of Mark,
Jesus shows the fallacy in this frame of thinking. In Mark 10:44 45, Jesus altered
the mindset of a King ruling over his followers, but serving them. He states that,
even the Son of Man cam not to be served but to serve others and to his life as a
ransom for many. This is portraying the idea of the Suffering Servant. Jesus teaches
his disciples to take up this mindset in Mark 9:35, as he tells them, Whoever wants
to be first must take last place and be last the servant of everyone else. This is a
true depiction of servant leadership. Jesus describes to his disciples that true
greatness is not from the receiving end of service but on the giving end. In God s
Kingdom being a servant of everyone else not the master is what is considered true

Understanding The Holocaust and Preventing it Happening Again
The human tragedy of the Holocaust was the systematic annihilation of millions of
Jews by the Nazi regime during World War II. The adversity of this persecution
influenced not only the European arena, but also peoples from all over the globe and
their ideas.
The impact caused by this ethnic cleansing was enormous. People s lives were
drastically changed as they were persecuted and tortured. Families were taken out of

unknown and their future was also unsettled for they did not know what would await

Another book that illustrates the calamity of the Holocaust is Memories of my life in
a Polish Village, by T.K. Fluek. In her book, Toby Fluek, a small Jewish girl,
describes how her family had to move to a Jewish Ghetto and go into hiding several
times to save their lives when World War II began. By the end of the war, only she
and her mother had survived. Toby became an artist and presents her story through
the use of her own art in paintings and descriptions of them.
It is amazing to hear from the people who have actually survived the Holocaust. It
shows us how much we still have to learn about the world and the civilizations and
how hard it is to understand the reason why we do such things to our fellow human
beings. By 1945, two out of every three European Jews had been killed and the
survivors continued to be oppressed. (Telles 51) In addition, thousands of political
and religious dissidents such as communists, socialists, trade unionists, and Jehovah s
Witnesses were persecuted for their beliefs and behavior and many of these
individuals died as a result of maltreatment.
According to the Preface to the Study of Women and the Holocaust, every Jew,
regardless of gender, was equally a victim in the Holocaust (Ringelheim 17). Women,
men and children were equally threatening to the Nazis. Children were seen as the
next generation of Jews and, therefore, would have to be banned too. Jewish women

to keep some information off of the chip is if the chip runs out of memory. According
to Lou Dolinar of the Orlando Sentinel a newspaper based out of Orlando, Florida,
published in October of 2004, the chips have very limited memory. These chips are
limited in memory because they are adapted from a product the company sells to

Even if the security was stronger, there are still problems with the chips after they

after the chip is placed under the skin, it cannot be removed. If the chip cannot be

Scout is probably at this level because she is 6 years old and follows most of
Atticus rules as well as her babysitter Calpurnia who cooks and takes care of Scout

the rules because they don t want the consequence that comes when the rules are
disobeyed. However, level 2 is conventional moral reasoning which is more for
adults and it relates more with the laws. This level has stages 3 and 4 which are
interpersonal expectations which means to follow the rules or do what other
people what so that they can get their approval (Kohlberg Theory). Stage 4 is law

of what can happen. For example, if someone is driving on a road that is empty

Amir s selfish personality The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini establishes
a theme of selfishness through Amir s eyes through the course of the novel. Amir
was an Afghan boy who was born in Kabul, Afghanistan who lived the majority of
his life behind enemy lines. Amir had been living in a large mansion with his
father Baba, and two family servants Ali and his son Hassan. Throughout the novel,
Amir began to become annoyed at how Baba had almost favored Hassan over his
own son. After a kite flying tournament in downtown Kabul that Hassan and Amir
had participated in, Hassan had begun to track down his kite that had flown away.
Upon finding it, Hassan had found himself cornered in an alleyway with the
biggest bully in Kabul, Assef. Followed by two other boys, Assef and the boys had
threatened to steal Hassan s kite because he was of a religion that wasn t pure in
Kabul, Hazara. When Hassan refused to give up his kite, he had been raped by the
boys with Amir watching and not acting to help Hassan. Through the course of The
Kite Runner, Amir often felt sorry for himself for the incident with Hassan, when in
reality he kept watching as the events unfolded in front of him, which ultimately
transformed him into a selfish character. A factor which helped to define the selfish
character that Amir had become, was the rape incident that Hassan was a victim to.

Multiracial marriages have been rising dramatically. In 1960 (before federal statistics

Using the Standard and Poor (S P) 500 companies, this paper examines the validity of
such a claim. We find evidence that Economicsis a good choice of major for those
aspiring to become a CEO. Economics ranked third with 9% of the CEOs of the S P
500 companies in 2004 being undergraduate Economics majors, behind Business
Administration and Engineering majors, each of which accounted for 20% of the
CEOs. When adjusting for size of the pool of ... Show more content on

41. Democracy In The Dominican Republic
The strongest of us are the ones who have fallen and risen, the ones that have been
damaged and repaired. Our democracy has not only been broken but stolen, and that
s why I strongly believe in the potential of it. I m reassured that our political system
is certainly not at it s best, but this realization simply means there s so much potential
for it. In the Dominican Republicthe framework is a representative democracywhere
in the elections there is an FPTP method, which simply means that the candidate
with the higher amount of votes in the first round wins, also the candidate needs at
least a 51% of the votes to win. (Electoral Law 275 97, Dominican Republic). I don t
believe our political system s fair, neither does it represent the... Show more content

For a country like the Dominican Republic having a single party governments
simply keeps agendas going, if not from the right, from the left. One could also argue
how it makes for a stronger and more stable government, in reality the given vote is
the one which is disliked the least rather than a confident vote, this can make for a
theoretical strength but a practical instability. Are people represented here? Fake
incentives are not representations, there s so much people in the country that have so
little that they ll do anything for more, politicians know so, people are manipulated
and finally don t understand that they are burying themselves in a hole.
Are we living in a broken political system? We are living in pure corruption,
corruption that makes a poor country somehow poorer, a corruption that kills the
little hope there is to better ourselves. One of the very big scandals was Odebrecht
construction company were it bribed some of the top officials, like the Trade
Minister. The Dominican Republic has a bicameral system, this should make
inadequate laws somewhat harder to pass,
42. German Expressionism In Frankenstein
German Expressionism was a film movement that emphasized character emotions
and thoughts through the extravagant use of cinematic devices, particularly mise
en scene and the narrative. These films are most notable for their dark themes
relating to death, fatality, insanity and horror. The films aim to elicit an emotional
response from the viewer, on the whole to shock, disgust and repel. Robert Wiene
directed The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1920 and it is considered one of the most
influential films of the German Expressionist movement. The movement had great
influence on Hollywood films in the 1930 s and 1940 s. This paper will explore the
1935 Hollywood filmThe Bride of Frankenstein. It will demonstrate the degree to
which the film is connected... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative follows a concise accumulation of occurrences that lead to its climatic
ending. From Mary as a framing device, to the survival of the monster and Dr.
Frankenstein, to Dr. Pretorius mad plan to create a bride for the monsters, to the
monster s plight in escaping the torch carrying villagers, to Dr. Pretorius befriending
the monster, and finally to the creation of the bride. The Bride of Frankenstein has a
profound structure, from its complex narrative to its sometimes unexpected mix of
horror, drama and comedy. The film plays with suspense through its use of dramatic
shadows to give off a shady and ominous feel. The shadows often mirror the actions
of the characters. This in turn hints to the sinister intent of the antagonists and
furthers the eerie mood. Old, dark, winding staircases that could crumble at any
moment, with massive beams that blend into the shadows making the darkness seem
endless. His decaying castle and warped iron bars on its windows visually represent
Dr. Frankenstein s tenuous hold on

Title:
Turning Shale to Energy: UK government investment in shale gas fracking as a
means of increasing energy security
Hypothesis:
This project will support the view that UK government investment in shale gas
fracking will decrease dependence on foreign energy imports.
Research Aims:
1.To examine the role of the Middle East and Russia in the energy market and why
in the last 5 10 years, the oil, coal and gas market has been deemed insecure.
2.To discuss the UK s dependence on imports of foreign energy and why investing in
shale gas resources would strengthen the state s energy security and economy.
3.To highlight the concerns of national environmental and conservation groups on the
environmental impacts of fracking. Theoretical Debate:
Case Study:
In the mid 1960s, sources of natural gas were found in the North Sea. By the 1980s,
although coal was the primary source of electricity in the country, gas was seen as
the cleanest, cheapest and most reliable source of energy available (Bradshaw,
2012, p. 7). However by 2005, North Sea production dried up and the UK was once
again dependent on foreign gas imports. In 2009 imports from foreign states
supplied almost half the UK s energy needs; by 2020 this is expected to rise to
between 80 and 90 percent. In 2011, the demand for gas reached 37% (Taylor, 2013,
p. 109). Thus like many other countries in the EU, today the UK is debating the costs
of importing energy from overseas and the importance of energy security. There
44. Cause Of Workplace Violence
Literature Review
Causes of workplace violence in united state
There are three main causes of workplace violence so far experience in United State,
these include; workplace factors, personal factors, and person situation interactions.
Workplace factors
Attempt to predict violence in a place of work previously have focused almost on
personal factors in line with social learning theory. Marital violence is associated
with work stress in totality. Again feeling of job insecurity, use of electronic
surveillance and employees perceived workplace justice are the three main
workplace factors that may be considered important in foreseeing workplace violence
Workers perception of fairness is reflected in the structural justice, procedures and
policies as well as the organizational outcomes. Generally, workers involved in
efforts to reinstate their sense of justice when they perceived an injustice in the
factory. Violence may be a predictable outcome, by extension that the workers
alleged to be exposed at work, whether in terms of physical danger.
Furthermore, various occupational murders have been linked to employees who have
been approved over for elevations or indicted and certain that the process used was
unfair, also some of the events that precipitate the unfairness in the work place have
been connected to poor administration measures, coercion, and unreliable corrective
measures. Even though it is not the only contributing reason, occupational violence
can also be caused by perceptions of technical prejudice.
Personal Factor
Personal factors that contribute to work place violence includes alcohol abuse, past
history of aggression, and lack of self esteem.
Destructive conduct across a diversity of settings such as violence at the family level
that has been connected with the unnecessary use of alcohol. From a wide viewpoint
of emotional alignment, excess use of alcohol will increase workplace violence since
it increases the chance of the situation being misjudged and lowers mental and oral
operational.
Secondly apart from alcohol abuse, there are reasons why a person s past history of
aggression might trigger workplace violence, because aggression is a very stable
behavior. The recent use of aggression has

she being Brand / new by E. E. Cummings
In the poem, she being Brand/ new by E.E. Cummings, the writer has chosen to
use symbols and unique capitalization in parts of the poem to reference a sexual
interaction with a woman. The opening sentence using a capital B in she being
Brand/ new (lines 1 2) leads the reader into the idea that the woman he is with is a
virgin and untouched. He never speaks of his actual sexual experience, but gives
readers an almost humorous ride of his sexual encounter. In lines 10 15, up,
slipped the clutch (and then somehow got into reverse she kicked what the hell)

will see the comparison of car parts not working correctly and having to tinker with
them to get them going with that of maybe a new sexual experience not going
right. The readers will see that the driver of the car would be considered a little self
centered and proud of his sexual abilities by the word choices of Cummings. In
1920 s when this poem was written sex was seen as kind of a naughty, forbidden
and sometimes hidden experience, Cummings uses the car to exemplify how the
rush of driving a car and the rush a sexual climax are similar. In using the capital O
in, her radiator made sure her springs were O (9) Cummings symbolizes the ultimate
orgasm. The poem continues throughout with stopping lines and pausing and starting
lines much like a car would sputter and

The life of a pioneer woman was quite difficult, when it came to daily life. Women
had the duty of taking care of the home, and helping build the home. They had to
birth normally around two to four children, feed and teach them, and watch them go
out on their own. Women had a very large skill set to get through their days and
provide for their families. They had to know how to sew, crochet, mend, darn, cook,
garden and raise children. They had to help alongside their husbands on building
homes and packing the familythings if they ever moved. They had to make soap,
spin wool, can local fruits and vegetables, and make jellies. Women had to help with
rodents and killing animals also. Many times, women s things would be tossed out if
they were
50. What Are The Similarities Between Rome And Carthage
Throughout ancient history, both the Roman Empire and the Carthage Empire were
rivals in many battles and wars. Both Rome and Carthage were prestigious empires
with economic and political growth mainly through trade and the conquest of land,
but during the Punic Wars, they were both tested against each other that lead to 100
s of years of war to determine which empire was the supreme power of the
Mediterranean. After the fall of Phoenician city of Tyre, the remaining Tyrians fled to
Carthagewith whatever wealth they still had (Mark, 2011). This incurred hundreds of
refugees into Carthage and thus made it the new Phoenician trade capital (Mark,
2011). As the Carthage grew in size with the victory over Africa which led to
Carthage being the richest city in the Mediterranean though the increase of tariffs and
tributes and the increasing business in trading prospered (Mark, 2011).
There are numerous legends that depict how Rome came to be but the most
prominent is the legend of the two brothers. Romulus and Remus, both demi gods,
argued over who would rule the city to the point where Romulus killed his brother
and named the city after himself. Rome was the most influential city during ancient
times regardless of the trials it faced with Florence, the Ottoman Empire and most
notably, the Carthaginians. Rome, in comparison to Carthage, also owed a majority
of its prosperity to trading in the early years of its development (Mark, 2009). The
one event that consolidated Rome s
51. The Apple Shell s Value Increases As The Lack Of...
Task 1
a)
In this diagram, we see that the Apple Shell s value increases as the lack of
availability makes it more scarce.
b)
This problem could be solved by increasing the total availability of the Apple Shell
product. This problem could also be solved by increasing the initial price of the
Apple Shell, therefore reducing the demand of the product.
This diagram shows that with a higher starting point the equilibrium point was
reached sooner and therefore eased the supply problem that the initial product launch
had.
c)
Price equilibrium is found where supply and demand are equal. This is the point
where both sellers and buyers are happy with the price and quantity (B.Bisardi).
For example in the electronic market in 2007, the entertainment company Nintendo
was struggling to keep up demand with the sales of the Nintendo Wii. It had wanted
to sell seventeen million units, but was only able to sell fourteen point five units due
to supply issues. (Cleland, 2007).This shows that while demand is high, Nintendo
still had problems with its supply and therefore at the time Nintendo had not found its
price equilibrium at that time. Which goes to show how the price equilibrium is very
difficult to find and in such a fast moving industry, it is even more difficult.
d) Price elasticity of demand (PED or Ed) is a measure used in economics to show the
responsiveness, or elasticity, of the quantity demanded of a good or service to a
change in its price (Bisardi Sung,
