Moving To A New Apartment Essay
Moving out to a new apartment English Author Dougles Adams wrote You live and
learn. At any rate, you live . This quote stated, learning is the limitless in human
life and anything happen to us we should move forward. My friend and I used to
live with different families. One day she told me about her, one of the friend was
going to move here from Wisconsin, who needed a place to stayor rent a room. if she
moved here, we could rent an apartment and split the rent. We found two bed rooms
apartment for about $1200 a month and moved in together. Living with my friends
was very peaceful and fun. Unfortunately, our upstairs neighbor who was from
Korea, they moved back to their country and a new family moved in our upstairs.
From that day living this apartment was very challenging. We needed to move and
find a new apartment because of the noisy upstairs neighbor and because of no heat
and higher bills. First of all, we wanted to move to escape from our upstairs
neighbors. They had three children, two boys and a girl around five to thirteen
years old. We heard two or three families moved from California together to this
area, who were friends. These neighbors had a lot visitors and made a noise every
night. When they walked up to the third floor and downstairs very heavily, it sounded
like something falling downstairs or something breaking. Also they talked and
laughed very loudly, we could almost hear their conversations. Then when their guests
visited
Imperialism In Jane Samson s The British Empire
Some of the most renowned British individuals of the 18th and early 19th Centuries
were writing and commenting on the early stages of imperialism in British history.
While some were not pleased with the way the empire was introducing imperialism,
the overall consensus was that the empire was advancing through trade and
exploration. That being said, the various individuals in Jane Samson s The British
Empireprovide interesting points of view that tell us how exploration merged with the
introduction of free trade in the empire to create new opportunities for a developing
Britain that is still present today. To begin, one must be aware that the economic
system of Britain at the time, mercantilism, was a subject of debate among various

Billy Budd As A Christ Figure Essay
The British naval ship Bellipotent took workers on to their ships such as the
young sailor Billy Budd the main character of Billy Budd, Sailor taking him from
the American ship The Rights of Man, a merchant ship to the British ship. This
impressment was common for the time period this novella is set in which is around
1797. Billy packs his belongings after finding out he has been impressed and
without a protest and follows the boarding officer of the Bellipotent Lieutenant
Ratcliffe to his new job. He proves very eager to have the new job of foretopman on
this new ship.
The author Herman Melville is trying to use the literary technique of a Christ figure
for Billy Budd, Sailor. To explain something deeper about the character s personality,
relationship to other characters, and relationship to the overall themes. Christ figure
is a literary technique that the author uses to draw allusion between their characters
and biblical Jesus. Billy is used as Christ Figure in this novella to show that people
throughout history are killed unjustly. Billy Budd in this novella is accused of

not an advanced user in the new software, I was familiar with it, which made training
for the new software easier.
During my research, I found over thirty dental practice management software

of the students had heard of these companies, and a couple mentioned they had heard
of EagleSoft. Each of these companies have been operating for more than twenty
years.
After reviewing the student evaluations, I am satisfied that my objectives and goals
were met. Most of the students mentioned that they had not considered the hours of
operation of telephone technical support. This seemed to be important to them. I
found this to be interesting, because the majority of my class seemed to be

Some of the students mentioned that my movements were somewhat distracting. One
student thought I was sitting during the lecture. I was standing before I begin and

What Is Graph Theoretical Analysis
1.3.4. Introduction to graph theoretical analysis. The case of brain perfusion SPECT.
In the field of quantitative neuroimaging, graph theoretical analysis is one of the
methods to study brain connectivity [93 95, 100, 101]. A key concept of this
method is the notion of topology. This concept can be illustrated with a simple idea
which is used when we travel in the subway of any large city. In figure 3 two maps
of the London subway appear, the first map shows a precise spatial description of the
railways (or lines) through which trains travel (i.e., the subway topography), whereas
the second one is only concerned with the relative locations of subway stations and
connecting lines (i.e., the subway topology). These two maps do not coincide with
regards to the relative position of the stations, neither in the distances nor in the
location of the lines. However, the topological map simplifies the problem for the
traveler. For example, two stations may be physically (topographically) ... Show more

By simply inspecting the topological maps, it is not easy to know if one subway is
better organized than the other (e.g., subway efficiency). One way to simplify this
problem is to use metrics that quantify or analyze the subway network using graph
theory [94, 101]. Hence the name of graph theoretical analysis.
A first aspect to measure could be how easy it is to travel between any two stations
(e.g. the number of stations on average, between the start and end of the trip). This
aspect is relevant, especially if the traveler wants to visit different parts of the city
on the same day. This example illustrates the concept of global efficiency of a graph
[94, 101]. The metric of global efficiency is a way to quantify the global connectivity
(integration) of the network. In this example, it is assumed that the number of
stations (nodes) and lines (connectors) are the same in the two subways that are
Ethical Vignette Essay
Title: Ethical Vignette
Abstract
In this paper I will discuss the ethical vignette as it deals with confidentiality and
ethical dilemmas that counselor s face. I will reflect on a video presentation as well
as the North Carolina rules and regulation and the ACA Code of Ethics as it relates to
confidentiality and ethics. I will explain why confidentiality is important and what the
rules says about it. This will help me and others to become a better counselor.

Next I looked at what ACA code of Ethics mandates that we do concerning these
matters. In Section B.1.c counselor has to respect the rights of all clients to
confidentiality and cannot share the information without client consent or without
legal or ethical justification. Also in Section C.2.e and f states that the Counselors
should take reasonable steps to consult with other counselors or related professionals
when they have questions regarding their ethical obligations or professional practice
and they must take continuing education so that they can maintain reasonable levels
of awareness.
Response
My reaction to the video at first was This is a long video then I began to really

how it applies to me right now. I began to change my thought process on how
serious this really is. Now believe me I know how important it is because I work in

Tenure Argumentative Essay
Proponents also advocate that teacher tenure will generate and guarantee innovation
in teaching. Teachers starting out are constantly being watched and evaluated on their
performance and effectiveness in the classroom. Most teachers stick to the book and
their guidelines they have to follow for the curriculum. There is not much innovation
or new strategies that will help students learn more effectively. Mr. Griffin from
Garden Grove High Schoolsaid that Tenure is like a pat on the back for a job well
done and allows you to have a little bit more freedom as a teacher (Ancheta 6). By
having tenure, it allows teachers to come out of their box and bring new effective
strategies to the classroom that will the students learn the material in a much better
way. Many teachers feel pressured overall and are afraid to bring or try something
new in the classroom. Tenure is a reward for hard work in the classroom and gives
teachers a sense of confidence in what they are doing, knowing that they are doing
their job right. Many of these teachers who receive tenure will drive themselves into

The job as a teacher is to give the students knowledge of that subject, teach the
students in an effective way that will stick to them, make learning enjoyable and
have the students leave in a remarkable manner. The early stages in a child s life are
crucial to the development as a human being. Although, there are many factors that
can affect the student s outcome, the teacher is one of them and can play a big role.
Our school system deserves qualified and effective teachers in the classroom that are
for the students. Bad teachers negatively affect students in such a way that it can
have a lasting effect that can be difficult or impossible to reverse. We have this
opportunity in time to improve our school system and to steer the future of our
country in the right way. What are we going to do about
Essay on Purple Loosestrife
Purple Loosestrife
The scene is breathtakingly beautiful, a thick brush of purple flowers blankets
Canada s wetlands. This blanket silences the expected sounds of the wetland
environment, birds chirping, ducks splashing, insects buzzing and animals thriving.
This unnatural silence is disturbing, the favourite flowers that used to litter this
landscape are no longer visible, the water that used to ripple continuously is perfectly
still. The wetland is dead, except for this overpowering, hardy purple flower that has
choked out all other vegetation and species. Purple loosestrife now controls this
landscape.

Nike Sweat Shops
The athletic apparel industry in which Nike is involved is a major money maker in
the United States, but the fact that none of the factories are located in North
America has brought some heat to the company. Nike controls more than 40
percent of the U.S. Market for sports related goods, but doesn t have a single
sneaker factory in this country (Miller 1). Nike continues to make millions of
dollars yet exploits workers overseas by paying them very little, while requiring long
hours without overtime pay in factories that are not up to American standard. Nike
subcontractors employ nearly 500,000 workers in plants in Indonesia, China and

The short answer is no, because corporations pay the going rate for labor whereever
they are. (Saporito 1) If this statement is true Nike pays the wage for the country the
factory is in, then what is the controversy about? Much of it stems from the overtime
that these workers are forced to work without over time compensation. Here in the
United States there are regulations placed on businesses that require then to
compensate their workers with a higher wage for over time hours. So since Nike is
an U.S. based company should Nike have to pay overtime? The answer is no. Nike
doesn t have to pay overtime like here in the U.S. so they don t. In Vietnam
Workers so want a reduction in overtime, the length of annual leave for the
Indonesian workers making Nike shoes is more than 30 days though dozens of
workers interviewed in November, said the actual amount is 10 days. (Ballinger 2)
There has been evidence of Nike breaking at least nine labor laws in China
according to AMRC; a Hong Kong based human rights group that has been
monitoring the abuse of human rights in China for the last 20 years. Children as
young as 13, were found employed in Nike factories, working from 144 192
overtime hours per month to make ends meet. (Designer 1) Ernest and Young, an
accounting firm, hired by Nike, to do research and the issue reported conditions in

Degeneres Vs West
People are often taught that when they have a dream, they shouldn t allow anyone or
anything get in their way of achieving it. And while ambition is a good quality to
have, there are some cases where people lose sight of their goals and become more
focused on their power or fame. In today s world, popular culture has taken over our
society, giving celebrities, particularly those in the music industry, almost unlimited
amounts of power. Although many people use their determination and stardom to
help others, there is a point where power and ambition becomes too much, and that is
when someone starts to have the mindset that he or she is more important than other
people.
One of the most controversial celebrities of the past decade has been the infamous

The Industrial Estate On The Edge Of Town
The industrial estate on the edge of town had, for a number of years, not been a place
that attracted all that many people.
Not many of the right sort of people anyway.
The forest of old brick buildings that once stood clean and tall were now covered
in several thick layers of moss while the accompanying metal plated factories that
were once able to reflect the rays from the sun for miles into the distance were now a
dull, dirty grey and begging to show noticeable signs of rust.
The entire estate had, at one time, been owned by a single very large and very
successful business that had employed thousands of people from the local area.
Campbell Urwin Limited had been one of the countries largest manufacturing
companies. It produced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over time however, the estate had also come to be the home of a group who s time
was focussed on much more sinister actives. They were a group of people who went
by no formal name and a group whose presence there was unknown to all those who
passed through the area.
The group called home a building that stood in the middle of the vast estate. It was a
building quite different from those that surrounded it. It was cleaner (although not by
much), as well as taller and much more modern than the rest. It had, formally, also
been the head office of Campbell Urwin.
The top floor of the building was made up of a number of small rooms. They had all
previously been the offices of the companies top executives, although none had been
used to house office equipment for some time. More recently the rooms had been
converted and become improvised bedrooms.
In the far corner of the floor was a small and fairly basic room that had little in it
apart from a rusty bed frame that was topped with a mattress so old it was made up
of considerably more broken springs than not.
This particular room belonged to the girl that was sat on the splintering chair by the
window and looking out at the view, although there was little she was able to see
through the heavy torrent of rain and hail that was smashing its way down onto the
glass.
Cleo was an average girl of average height. In fact almost everything about her was
average, apart from her life anyway, that was nothing

For example, at the age of 27, Bennett spoke to her doctor about some depressive
mood issues she was experiencing, for which the doctor prescribed

herself feel better, she was self medicating by smoking marijuana, staying up late

increasingly erratic, and her roommates were really concerned. They called her
family to let them know what was going on. So her sister and mother came to visit

they could get her some help. Because of Bennett s manic episode, she had
convinced herself that the people coming to visit her were not her family, but

restaurant where they were meeting and bring a video camera to tape it. She thought
that she could use the tape as evidence that someone had cloned her sister and
mother and could take that to the authorities. This concludes that by not having her

Media Activism In Social Media
Introduction
With the influx of social media use, the way activism is conducted also has to
adapt to the changing times. It is so easy for students, leaders, and other individuals
to tweet or post about their political view or support for a movement. President
Trump has used twitter as one of his biggest social media platforms. The biggest
question now is if social media activism works?
The two biggest social media platforms that activists use are Twitter and Facebook.
The hashtag was created by twitter and launched in August 2007. In 2016, there was a
total of 1.3 billion accounts created, there are reports that 24 million accounts are
bots. There are 24.6% journalists on twitter. 83% of world leaders on twitter, and
79% of accounts are held outside of the USA. There are 500 million tweets daily.
With 500 million tweets, daily (Smith 2016). Looking at Facebook, there are 2
billion monthly active users (Sparks 2017). With more than 50 million businesses
that have pages, with 70% of companies outside of the USA (Dawney 2016).
Since, social media activism is so new, there are two different beliefs about the topic.
One group believes that the hashtag and social media activism is not enough. Shonda

( Key events in, 2011) For years leading up to the 1940s, pollution in the city
steadily grew along with the increase in people and cars. Los Angeles became a
prime location for lingering pollution due to its geographic position. Because it sat in
a valley between the mountains and ocean and because of its always relatively low
winds, the particles and emissions could not be blown and dissipated into the
atmosphere, creating a blanket of smog that slowly engulfed the city. Although air
pollution control programs had been implemented before, they had been unsuccessful.
The first significant action was taken in the fall of 1943. ( Key events in, 2011)
To study the issue at hand the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors created a
Smoke and Fumes Commission. In the winter of 1943, the city followed some of the
commission s suggestions by banning dense smoke emissions and establishing an
office for the Director of Air Pollution Control. After studying the true magnitude of
the issue, the Los Angeles Times hired an air pollution expert, Raymond R. Tucker, to
help come up with more solutions. After a long investigation, Tucker made 23
recommendations including citing smoking trucks and banning garbage incinerators
in dumps and backyards. He also disproved the notion that the pollution was only the
factories fault. Caution should be exercised in placing the entire blame on any one
industry, plant or group of individuals, he wrote. Each contributes its share.
The Nicene Creed Essay
The Nicene Creed is the creed or profession of faith that was adopted in the city of
Nicaea by the first ecumenical council, which met there in the year 325. At that time,
the text ended after the words We believe in the Holy Spirit , after which an
anathema was added. The doctrine of the Trinityis commonly expressed as: One
God, three Persons , but this word Trinity does not appear in the Bible. So the
doctrine is formally defined in the Nicene Creed, which declares Jesus to be: God of
God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one
substance with the Father. in 325, the Council of Nicea set out to officially define the
relationship of the Son to the Father, in response to the controversial teachings of...

Even during numerous exiles, Athanasius continued to be a vigorous defender of
Nicene Christianity against Arianism. Athanasius then famously said Athanasius
against the world . The Cappadocian Fathers also took up the torch; their Trinitarian
discourse was influential in the council at Constantinople.Up until about 360,
theological debates mainly dealt with the Divinity of Jesus, the 2nd person of the
Trinity. However, because the Council of Nicaea had not clarified the divinity of the
Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Trinity, it became a topic of debate.
The council affirmed the original Nicene Creed of faith as true and an accurate
explanation of Scripture. This council also developed a statement of faith which
included the language of Nicaea, but expanded the discussion on the Holy Spirit to
combat the heresy of the Pneumatomachi. It is called the Nicene Creed of 381 and
was a commentary on the original Nicene formula. It expanded the third article of
the creed dealing with the Holy Spirit, as well as some other changes. About the
Holy Spirit the article of faith said he is the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds
from the Father, With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified . The
statement of proceeding from the Father is seen as significant because it established
that the Holy Spirit must be of the same being as God the Father.

Wine War
CASE REPORT: Global Wine Wars: New World Challenges Old
(Harvard Business School Case # 9 303 056) NMI
1. How did the French become the dominant competitors in the increasingly global
wine industry for centuries? What sources of competitive advantage were they able to
develop to support their exports? Where were they vulnerable?
French wine makers also face challenges that are not internal to the industry. For
instance, France lost market share in the United States due to informal boycotts in
the wake of the Iraq war. The rise of the euro against other currencies, such as the
30% increase relative to the dollar in the last few years, has put French wines at a
comparative cost disadvantage. But consensus among experts is that the ... Show

However, it quickly became apparent that the newcomers pose a serious threat to the
traditional winemakers. The French were especially hurt when they began to lose
their global market share as well as the coveted U.K. market to the Australians.
Allows analysis of the way in which newcomers can change the rules of competitive
engagement in a global industry. How incumbents can respond, especially when
constrained by regulation, tradition, embedded values, and a different set of
capabilities than those demanded by the emerging market by changing consumer
tastes and market structures.
The case contrasts the tradition bound Old World wine industry with the market
oriented New World producers, the battle for the US market, the most desirable
export target in 2009 due to its large, fast growing, high priced market segments.
REINVENTING THE MARKETING MODEL: New World producers
revolutionized the packaging and marketing aspects of wine making. Americans and
Australians greatly impacted wine packaging by replacing the Old World standard
liter bottle with a half gallon flagon in the U.S. and the innovative wine in a box
package in Australia. Australians have been praised for this idea because boxed wine
not only saves on shipping costs but it
has made storage easier for consumers. Australians have also begun to use screw on
caps rather than the traditional corks on premium wines; this is to prevent spoiling
due to deficient corks. On the

How The Past Can Assist The Modern Criminal Justice
System
Principally, changes in political climate with various governments occupied through
times of war, plague and famine, have led to rapid changes in social values, priorities
and economic environments. These factors are considered to be paramount during
the application of historical methodologies, not least to studies pertaining to the CJS
and its subsidiaries. Moreover, In 1948, Sir Leon Radzinowicz... [believed] ...lessons
of the past can assist the modern criminal justicesystem (as cited in Godfrey,
Lawrence and Williams, 2008, p. 16). Criminologists research to understand whether
policing was and is pragmatic, idealistic or both and how it has become so rooted into
the constitution despite its often hostile critique.
From 1750, for two centuries, policing is considered to have been revolutionary.
An initial unwillingness to relinquish a very British sense of liberalism was swiftly
outweighed by the advocacy of a bourgeois ruling class, seeking to protect their
property and an acceptance from lower classed service users (Emsley, 1983). Whig
historians positively viewed policing of the past as a strong foundation (Godfrey et
al., 2008, p. 17).
Critically, Marxism argues that the hierarchal social stratum is maintained through
the criminalisation and marginalisation of the poorest in society. Consistently,
political legislation has only been accessible by the elite, resulting in laws which are
considerate of their own interests and keep the proletariats in order
Historical Analysis Of Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez
Historical Analysis of Zoot Suit Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and
published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the
1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural
conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s. This story also deals with
the intercultural struggles between Mexican Americans and white Americans. In
this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what events in history
influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical
influences are used to create a realistic screenshot of the 1940s Los Angeles. Los
Angles was going through huge demographics changed in the early 1940 s.
Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the
Dust bowl, and American service men rushed to Los Angeles because of World War
II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American
production increased. The youth was partaking in jazz culture and began wearing
zoot suits. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with
Mexican violence. Eventually, tensions rose between the rebelling Mexican
American youth and Marines because the servicemen found it their responsibility to
straighten the youth up. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that left hundreds
injured. As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots; racism was the
central cause of the riots ( People Events ). The script takes place before and during
the riots and is intended portray the discrimination of the era. The author of the play,
Luiz Valdez, is a 76 year old Mexican American male that is known to be the father
of Chicanoplays. He earned a degree in theater from San Jose State University and
founded El Teatro Campesino (Albert). El Teatro would perform for migrant farm
workers. Valdez grew up working alongside his parents in the field. This led to
Valdez be an activist; his theater would perform plays to aid the farm worker strikes
by lifting the spirits of the protesters. For that, Valdez became an influential leader in
the Chicano movement. He had interesting early life experiences that gave him
inspiration for his plays. In Zoot Suit, the protagonist
Behavior Disorders in the Shinning Essay
The Shining
The Shinning, a horror movie that was released in 1980, featured Jack Nicholson, as
a writer who is left in charge of the Overlook hotel during the winter. During this time
Jack began to developed schizophrenia among many other personality and mood
disorders and attempts to murder his own family. After reviewing this film it became
apparent that there was a mixture of accuracy and exaggeration of the development of
schizophrenia. Jack had this disorder, but also had symptoms of other personality
and mood disorders. For the sake of Hollywood the film did take schizophrenia to
entirely new levels. Some of this hype was generated around Jack becoming a full

Jack also starts to develop an obsessive compulsive behavior personality disorder
by writing pages and pages of manuscript that read, All work and no play makes
Jack a dull boy. This form of receptiveness might even imply that Jack was entering
a type of Schizoid behavior because of his detachment from others. He became very
isolated from everyone. He had little movement and little speech and was
completely engrossed in his writing, which was not amounting to anything. Jack
had many delusions in the thick of his mental breakdown. One in particular was a
man named Grady who continuously told him to get rid (murder) of his wife and
son. Some of his other delusions occurred while he would sit at the bar and drink
with the bartender Lloyd, or see a strange woman in room 217, who later seduces
him. Some of these delusions could have been ghost, however, they were never
really told whether they were, or were not. Jack could have developed these
delusions himself in order to gain control of life. The bartender served him alcohol,
which became his dependent and courage to follow through on his actions. The
woman in room 217 could have taken his mind off of his wife so he could get the
job done, and Grady could have been his strength to follow through with his actions.
Jack also had a strong sense of paranoia. He constantly

Stephen Crane and The Civil War
While merely speculative, some biographers claim that Crane began The Red
Badge of Courage in response to a challenge made by an acquaintance urging him to
write a war novel that exceeded the quality of Emile Zola s Le dГ©bГўcle. Crane,
shortly thereafter, undertook the task and researched various articles in Century
magazine on battles and leaders in the Civil War. In several personal letters he writes
of the process he underwent in producing the narrative and discusses his opinions and
feelings in reference to the quality of his work. While he generally concedes to the
positive opinions surrounding its reviews, he makes a conscious effort to refute the

Appleton Company. Crane, while frustrated with the publishing process, realized
the necessity of the book s success. Experiencing a time of high stress and personal
struggle, The Red Badge of Courage became the answer to his problems. In several
letters he comments on the process of writing the novel. To an editor of Leslie s
Weekly he wrote [about November, 1895]:
I decided that the nearer a writer gets to life the greater he becomes as an artist, and
most of my prose writings have been toward the goal partially described by that
misunderstood and abused word, realism ... I ve been a free lance during most of
the time I have been doing literary work, writing stories and articles about anything
under heaven that seemed to possess interest, and selling them wherever I could. It
was hopeless work. Of all human lots for a person of sensibility that of an obscure
free lance in literature or journalism is, I think, the most discouraging. It was
during this period that I wrote The Red Badge of Courage. It was an effort born of
pain despair, almost; and I believe that this made it a better piece of literature than
it otherwise would have been. It seems a pity that art should be a child of pain, and
yet I think it is. Of course we have fine writers who are prosperous and contented,
but in my opinion their work would be greater if this were not so. It lacks the sting it
would have if under the spur
The Ballad Of Birmingham Poem
Boom! Imagine, in the blink of an eye, everything in your world has fallen apart.
Your child s soul is sucked out of her body by a stranger your child has never met
before. Imagine your child making world news and being put in history books
because of the evil negligence of another fellow American. This reality was true for
the families of the victims in the Ballad of Birmingham poem.
In my opinion, this is a well structured essay by Dudley Randall which describes
minutes before an innocent girl dies in one of the most unimaginable ways. I believe
losing her child is a hard thing for a mother to go through. I enjoy the end rhyme and
the ability for the audience to understand the poem s composition. I do not like the
way the poem s tone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She sent her child to sing in the choir, in hopes she would be safe in God s
tabernacle, but instead, the child went to the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church death
trap. Secondly, I disagree with the way Dudley Randall ended the poem. Even
though the reader can assume what happened to the child, the poem slightly leaves
you with a cliffhanger. The child s lifeless body cannot be found by her desperate
and destitute mother. The audience can be left feeling melancholy and incomplete.
Lastly, Randall, in my opinion, strategically wrote stanza five in the poem very
well, She has combed and brushed her night dark hair, And bathed rose petal sweet,
And drawn white gloves on her small brown hands, And white shoes on her feet
(Randall 19). Lastly, the white gloves and white shoes represent purity and
innocence of the adolescent. The way the little girl brushes her black hair and bathes
in sweet aromas represents the child s vulnerability and how sweet the little things are
in life.
Dudley Randall was born in early 1914 in Washington, D.C. but later migrated to
Detroit, Michigan in 1920 (Madgett). At the young age of thirteen, Dudley Randall
wrote his first poem. During the span of his life, he has written poems such as

The Reality Of The Placebo Effect On The Brain
The Reality of the Placebo Effect
Even through all the enhancements in technology the brain still hides some secrets,
the influence of the brain over the body in some aspects is inexplicable. In other
word, it has not been determined a specific magnitude of how the brain will affect
the rest of the body, especially related to healing. For example, the morphine could be
able to reach a hundred percent of effectiveness if doctors talk before with their
patients about the administration of morphine to reduce the feeling of pain, against a
fifty percent effectiveness of morphine when they just administrate without telling.
The name of this effect is called the placebo effect, which means in Latin I shall
please , related to any substance without a medical treatment, to convince a patient
that him or her will heal. It could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For sure, the expectation is the key point of the phenomenon, as Irving Kirsch, an
associate director of the Placebo Study in Harvard University, said the way we feel
depends largely on how we anticipate that we will feel (Punset 1). Placebo effect is
not magic and it is not a fake drug either, and due to the enhance of technology,
scientist know that the brain is capable to produce their own medicine. For some
people, could mean as a simple talk but for the patient could entirely depends of
how he or she will heal. As a final though, if the brain is able to cure the rest of the
body, there is no sense why not to use
Cincher Should Not Be Allowed Persuasive Speech
Let s start with plus size waist cinchers or plus size waist shapers, are a wide belt
like garment worn below the bust or rib line and end above the hip in order to give
the illusion of a slimmer waistline and a more feminine hourglass shape. Made to
be firm control shapewear, the material used is quite thick and don t really have

A good waist cincher is designed to really hold in that gut and reduce your waist by
at least 1.5/2 inches. There are many waist shapers available that are made from light
control, stretchy materials, which will smooth out the bumps and lumps but these
aren t powerful enough for me! I need a cincher that will do just as it says
Stereotypes In If That Ain T Country
What do you think of when you think of an old country song? Is it singing about
plowing the fields, find a young lassie to dance with in the bar, getting drunk with
the boys and so on. If That Ain t Country by David Allan Coe tries to shine a new
light on what country is and that is white trash hicks, which he suggests are
forgotten people in the world. We listen to this song and will giggle at some of the
lyrics or are startled by how some parts are pretty racist, but it has a very true side
of it that shows that country folk aren t all classy, church going folk. The
beginning of this song is an essentially a summary of what his life was like
growing up in Texas. It almost seems like he tries to hit every stereotype possible
such as The old man was covered with tattoos and scars/ He got some in prisons
and others in bars suggesting that his father was a mean drunk and also ex
convict. The next stereotype is They looked liked tombstones in our yard
suggesting the old, rusting cars in the their yard that Dad would fix up and the
stereotype of white trash people leaving crap in there yard is in play here. In all of
these stereotypes he does suggest that his Dad worked hard to make ends meet. This
shows that they weren t just a lazy family, at least.... Show more content on

Ziggurats Research Paper
One of the most important aspects of Babylonian religion and tradition, and probably
the best known, is the ziggurat. Ziggurats were huge structures with a temple far
above the ground. This Temple would have belonged to the city god. The city
ziggurat would easily be the most noticeable building in the city, towering above any
people visiting their city. They could reach up to 150 ft. high as well! But how did
they build these mesmerizing temples? The materials they used, the platform they
designed, and the time and effort they spent on the ziggurats made them stand out and
be the most conspicuous building in Ancient Babylon. To start the platform, they
used Sun baked bricks (made out of straw and mud); because these bricks were sun

Each of the bricks were sometimes stamped with the name of the king and later on
tied with ropes.
The Ancient Babylonians thought about the design carefully. Like an ancient
Egyptian pyramid, a ziggurat has four sides and rises up to the realm of the gods. It
also put their priests closer to the heavens, where they could better communicate
with the deity so he could hear their prayers and speak his will. They usually had 7
steps upwards and each of them had different dimensions as they got smaller. The
first step was 300ft x 300ft and 110ft high. The bricks were set in a mortar, to protect
it against flood damage as well.
Building the ziggurat took time and effort. Teams of workmen moved huge loads
of bricks using sleds on wooden rollers, or carried smaller amounts in baskets on
their backs. After the bricks had dried, each of the men had to take their share of
bricks up Estrada

The Property Council of Australia has also indicated that Grade B commercial
property is experiencing an increased vacancy rating, the secondary market of
office property in Brisbane rising to 23% vacancy in 2016. In response to this, there
has been a push from the City and Property councils to adapt such buildings into
residential apartments, student accommodation, retirement living and hotels.
Brisbane s 41 George Street office tower is a key example of a piece of Brisbane s
Post War heritage with current potential for adaptive re use projects, with speculative
plans to transform the recently sold building s 1,021sqm floor plate into refurbished
offices, a hotel, residential apartments and student accommodation.
The combination of the increased demand for inner city housing against high vacancy
rates for office buildings is providing lucrative development opportunities for adaption
into residential apartments. The forecast for house price growth in 2016 was 17% in
Perth, 6% in Adelaide, 6% in Melbourne, 8% in Darwin, 19% in Sydney and 16%
in Brisbane. Developers are looking towards the adaptive reuse of C and D grade
office space across Australia capital cities into residential buildings. The economic
prospects for adaptive reuse as residential apartments across Australian capital cities

The Theme of Growth in Exodus Essay
The Theme of Growth in Exodus
Exodus, by Leon Uris, is a novel of genuine Affirmation. One of the most prevalent of
the affirmative themes is the idea of growth. Many of the characters learn a lot about
themselves, and change tremendously in a positive way. Earlier in their lives, these
characters decided to live their life one way, but throughout the book they change, and
join each other to unite. Fighting for their common religion and fundamental rights
brought them together in a way that is barely imaginable.
In Exodus, Mr. Uris shows that a common belief can bring people together, and
which leads to personal growth. During the course of the story, the characters who
show the most growth are Ari Ben Canaan, Kitty Fremont, ... Show more content on

Years later, after meeting Kitty Fremont, Ari loves her, but cannot tell her so. It is
impossible for him to admit his feelings so easily, even though truthfully he loves
her more deeply than he loved Dafna. Through their experiences together, they
build a friendship, and both of them want more than that but neither will admit it.
What brings them to finally accept each other is the death of Karen, which finally
made Ari question his ideals, after everyone has died. Ari breaks down and cries,
something he has never done before. He is not ready to completely change his
ways, he says to Kitty, ...it may be forever before I can ever again say that my need
for you comes first, before all other things...before the needs of this country. (page

amount of growth on his part.
Kitty Fremont also shows growth in her relationship with Ari, but she personally
grows more with her views on involvement with the Jewish movement, and by being
able to separate herself from Karen. In both of these areas, Kitty starts out with one
point of view, and is able to expand her thoughts to include what is best for everyone.

Why Crocheting Is Wrong
People who thinks chocolate is addictive have obviously never tried crocheting. A
double crochet stitch is four times the height of a knit stitch. According to Dutch
magazine penelope, crocheting come from croche the middle French word for hook.
The first published crochet patterns appeared in 1824 in a Dutch magazine penelope

crocheting a thing, but it sure is popular than anybody ever thought.
I have seen a lot of crocheting done in my life. I chose this topic, because my mom
and my grandma have always wanted me to learn how to crochet, but i have never

why there is no virtually written history on crocheting? Most American needlecraft

Questions On Dns And Dhcp
DNS and DHCP
DHCP hands out IP addresses to clients and is essential for connecting to the internet.
Because DHCP are so important we will configure for fault tolerance and load
balancing. The DHCP scope design will involve 2 DHCP servers at the Pensacola
site and 1 DHCP server at the Casper site. All of the DHCP servers will be put into
failover load balance mode. All of the DCHP servers will be configured in load
balance mode. With this set up if one server fails the other will take over. If they are
all working properly then they will share the load balance. A scope with the address
range of 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.110 will be created.
DHCP reservations will be used for all servers within both sites so they will get the
same IP address every time. This will speed up the response time from the server
and make sure that users will not have any issues finding the servers. The lease
times will be in the default 8 day increments to ensure that there will be plenty of
IP addresses available at all times. Using a private domain, the DNS name space
design will include pa.con.localhost as the parent and ca.con.localhost as the child.
Split DNS will be set up with two different scopes. One for the internal DNS
records and one for the external DNS records. These scopes will be hosted on the
same DNS server. This will keep the information on the internal DNS server secure
from issues such as foot printing. To set up these scopes policies need to be created
and implemented so each
Stanislavsky is the father of today s style of acting....
Stanislavsky is the father of today s style of acting. Constantine Stanislavsky (1863
1938) was the innovator for method acting. He changed the process of acting in
which actors immerse themselves into their characters as much as possible. He
wanted acting to change to a realistic art. Stanislavsky wanted his actors to avoid
habitual mannerisms on stage (Worthen, 33). He used a method that includes five
techniques to help an actorsubmerge into their characters. The magic if, re education,
observation, motivation and emotional memory are all techniques Stanislavsky used
to help mold his actors (Bradford).
The first technique requires the actor to use their imagination. The magic if requires
the actor to ask themselves what my character ... Show more content on

He taught his actors to research the role by diving into the script and breaking down
the characters motivations. Then recalling their personal experiences and forming a
motivation. It is then the actor could achieve a more genuine performance (Bishop,
1999).
Stanislavsky s methods are still being used in today s acting. In the article, Building
Characters: The Work of Celebrity Impersonators, the author writes about how
impersonators use Stanislavsky s method. Ferris writes, the method is by far a more
popular system in contemporary American theatre, film, and television acting but it
serves a purpose when discussing celebrity impersonation. When impersonating
Marilyn Monroe, the actor uses the method by renting all of Marilyn s movies,
studying every detail from the makeup to body language. Impersonators truly use the
method by diving into the character completely (Ferris 2011). A new concept of
method acting has recently hit the news is when actors take their performance to an
extreme level. Articles titled Method acting gone too far, touch base with the
extreme actions actors endure to play their characters accurately. One of the more
experienced method actors, Daniel Day Lewis is known for wild means of preparing
for roles. Weeks of slouching in his wheelchair got him two broken ribs for his role in
My Left Foot. He also forced people to spoon feed him his meals to better get into
character. Tom

Dramatic Play Generally dramatic play has been proven is one of the main activities
that can enhance child emotional development and can be the entertainment for the
children.
The game we would like to propose in our syllabus is Live in Your Space . In this
dramatic game, the instructors will give instructions to kids to build their own
space such as school, library, post office, kitchen, grocery or office. The kids will
be divided into smaller groups of three or four peoples for them to work together to
build their own space in 30 to 45 minutes period and after that the kids need to act
the roles they have chosen since children actually love to pretend as adults.
There are various toys provided in the childcare that kids can use to build the
setting they want. For example a group of kids wanted to build a classroom setting.
They can use everything in their surrounding for the setting such as books, number
or alphabets blocks, some cards and etc. They also can arrange the chairs and tables
in order to make it similar with a classroom by help from teacher. After the setting,
the kids can pretend as teacher teaching in the classroom or as students listening to
the lessons. The teacher can ring a bell when wanted the end the pretend play to
make the situation similar with a real school. Generally in this game, kids need to
learn how to work together and tolerate with each other in order to accomplish the
task. They might have different opinions in setting their

physiology, the sanguine characters, like cheerfulness, optimism, hopefulness etc are
reflection of excess of blood as one of the four body humors. Sanguine describes the
personality of an individual with the temperament related to blood, the spring weather
(wet and hot), and the element of air. The sanguine individual suddenly gets excited
by whatever affects him with immediate reaction, but it is not too deep and the
impression doesn t last long. Some chief characteristics of the Sanguine Temperament
are, Diplomatic While talking, the sanguines usually use very pleasing words; they
speak in a way that avoids offending others. This character makes them much friendly
and pleasing to talk with. Still, at times they may hurt the feeling of others through
their direct and frank words i.e. something bitter truth . But, actually they do not
intend to offend; rather it is due to their open hearted nature. Enthusiastic Sanguines
are too enthusiastic, almost over everything. By nature, they are too curious and
always want getting updated. But as soon as they start doing something, their
enthusiasms begin to fade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their vivaciousness is what makes them unique and differently identified from others.
The uninterrupted as well as extravagant flow of ideas and words of sanguine often
entertain people, but there also exist a group of serious people who dislike these
natures of sanguines. The sanguines are usually talkative; they talk, gossip, even
confide their secrets to everyone. Many a times before completing one thread, they
start another one. They just do not remain pinpoint about whatever they say; rather
they swim with the flow of thoughts those are rushing into their
Analysis Of We Wear The Mask
The title of Dunbar s We Wear the Mask (1896) emphasizes the essential idea of the
poem, which is deception and illusion. The title is repeated in all three stanzas. This
tells the reader to keep the title in mind while reading the poem. The persona of
Dunbar is conveyed to the reader in first person, which has a strong contributed to the
message of the poem along with the rhythm and word choice. It shows the repulsive
worldDunbar lives in and the masking of his own true emotions throughout the poem.
Dunbar s emotional appeal enhances every mood in the poem from the need to hide
the true self, to the deep sorrow behind the mask, and to connecting the mask to how
humans must lie.
In the first stanza, Dunbar uses irony to express what the mask symbolizes. The
mask can represent several things from someone hiding behind a false expression
to the things people say and do that aren t honest. The main point of the poem
which describes the mask as a grin, but can lie . It hides our cheeks and shades our
eyes (Line 2) gives the reader a mental picture with the use of imagery. As well, the
extra spacing at the beginning of line two emphasizes the word hiding . This mask
hides its own existence, of agonizing misery and hardship. Many people put it on to
fit into society. When Dunbar says, With torn and bleeding hearts we smile , (Line
4) it explains the worldly power of the mask. The debt we pay to human guile, (Line
3) means the unhappiness they feel is related to them deceiving others. Both lines are
hyperboles that emphasize the struggle behind the mask. The figurative language not
only shows the theme of discernment, but shows its impact. In addition, applying the
words, we and our gives the poem an all inclusive feel which creates an auxiliary
meaning.
In the second stanza, Dunbar asks a rhetorical question to prove a point. One should
not let others make them suffer by hiding all feelings and emotions from society.
When he says, Why should the world be overwise, / In counting all our tears and
sighs? (Line 6 7), it contradicts the idea that this poem is universal with the phrase the
world . Throughout the poem, the time frame of the publication does not shift the
poem at all. But one would
Why Do Chinese Immigrants Move To Canada
The Railway Connecting a Country
Columbia became Canada sixth province in 1871 (Library and Archives Canada,
2009). An essential point in persuading the province to enter the Confederation was
a promise to build the railway; this railway would connect to the Pacific coast as
well as the rest of the country. Cutting through the Rocky Mountains was one of the
most difficult parts of building the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the time, there were
several reasons to employee Chinese immigrant workers. One of great importance
was the fact that Chinese immigrant workers were paid lower wages than Caucasian
workers. By using the Chinese immigrant workers, the estimated reduction in cost for
building the railway ranged between $3 million and $5 million. ... Show more content

With the amount of discrimination shown historically against immigrants of Chinese
decent, it would be expected that the Chinese would be disenfranchised with their
status in life; and in turn work outside of the law to get the advancement he/she
deserved (Chapin, 2012). However, this is not the case as the Chinese appear to be
content to keep their heads down and just do the work. The Chinese describe this
attitude as renming , meaning one who acknowledges his/her fate. As the Chinese
immigrant population is approaching a twenty percent share, the crime rate per capita
has decreased annually since 1991; when immigration was at its lowest (Zhang,
Comparing Cardinal Richelieu s Practice of Ruler Ship to...
Some regard nineteenth century France to be the France of NapolГ©on Bonaparte
and, in the same respect, it can be argued that ancien rГ©gime France was the France
of Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu. Upon entering the French political arena,
Richelieu was thrown amidst the struggles of international diplomacy, the devious
schemes of the nobility, and the disgruntlement of the common people. Similarly, the
unstable Florentine Italy which NiccГІlo Machiavelli familiarized himself with led
both these prominent men to publish their respective works: The Prince by
Machiavelli and The Political Testament of Cardinal Richelieuby Richelieu himself.
By rejecting conventional morals, disregarding haughty ideals, and promoting
ruthless tactics, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The burden of paying taxes fell upon the peasantry since the majority of nobility and
high bourgeoisie were either exempt or effortlessly evaded payment. The social
distress amongst the peasantry caused by the war taxation resulted in several
uprisings between 1636 and 1639, which the Cardinal crushed violently and dealt
with the rebels in a harsh manner which Machiavelli would have promoted.#
However, when examining to what extent Machiavelli s maxims on ruler ship applied
to Richelieu s own experiences, it is important to understand that a state s domestic
affairs and it s international ones are mutually constitutive. It is apparent that the
issue of internal security was crucial and impacted France s status in the international
arena. From 1624 8, Richelieu s foreign policy was jeopardized by national concerns:
the revolt of the Huguenots and inconveniences resulting from those who directly
opposed him within France, specifically the noblesse and the peasantry. With
increasingly power acquiring factions, Richelieu understood that the greater part of
educated, intelligent French citizens wished for a sound

This quote stated, learning is the limitless in human life and anything happen to us we should move forward. My friend and I used to live with different families. One day she told me about her, one of the friend was going to move here from Wisconsin, who needed a place to stayor rent a room. if she moved here, we could rent an apartment and split the rent. We needed to move and find a new apartment because of the noisy upstairs neighbor and because of no heat and higher bills. First of all, we wanted to move to escape from our upstairs neighbors. They had three children, two boys and a girl around five to thirteen years old. We heard two or three families moved from California together to this area, who were friends. These neighbors had a lot visitors and made a noise every night. When they walked up to the third floor and downstairs very heavily, it sounded like something falling downstairs or something breaking. Also they talked and laughed very loudly, we could almost hear their conversations. Then when their guests visited

In the field of quantitative neuroimaging, graph theoretical analysis is one of the methods to study brain connectivity [93 95, 100, 101]. A key concept of this method is the notion of topology. This concept can be illustrated with a simple idea which is used when we travel in the subway of any large city. In figure 3 two maps of the London subway appear, the first map shows a precise spatial description of the railways (or lines) through which trains travel (i.e., the subway topography), whereas the second one is only concerned with the relative locations of subway stations and connecting lines (i.e., the subway topology). These two maps do not coincide with regards to the relative position of the stations, neither in the distances nor in the location of the lines. However, the topological map simplifies the problem for the traveler. For example, two stations may be physically (topographically) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By simply inspecting the topological maps, it is not easy to know if one subway is better organized than the other (e.g., subway efficiency). One way to simplify this problem is to use metrics that quantify or analyze the subway network using graph theory [94, 101]. Hence the name of graph theoretical analysis. A first aspect to measure could be how easy it is to travel between any two stations (e.g. the number of stations on average, between the start and end of the trip). This aspect is relevant, especially if the traveler wants to visit different parts of the city on the same day. This example illustrates the concept of global efficiency of a graph [94, 101]. The metric of global efficiency is a way to quantify the global connectivity (integration) of the network. In this example, it is assumed that the number of stations (nodes) and lines (connectors) are the same in the two subways that are

  • 9. Tenure Argumentative Essay Proponents also advocate that teacher tenure will generate and guarantee innovation in teaching. Teachers starting out are constantly being watched and evaluated on their performance and effectiveness in the classroom. Most teachers stick to the book and their guidelines they have to follow for the curriculum. There is not much innovation or new strategies that will help students learn more effectively. Mr. Griffin from Garden Grove High Schoolsaid that Tenure is like a pat on the back for a job well done and allows you to have a little bit more freedom as a teacher (Ancheta 6). By having tenure, it allows teachers to come out of their box and bring new effective strategies to the classroom that will the students learn the material in a much better way. Many teachers feel pressured overall and are afraid to bring or try something new in the classroom. Here in the United States there are regulations placed on businesses that require then to compensate their workers with a higher wage for over time hours. So since Nike is an U.S. based company should Nike have to pay overtime? The answer is no. Nike doesn t have to pay overtime like here in the U.S. so they don t. Los Angeles became a prime location for lingering pollution due to its geographic position. Because it sat in a valley between the mountains and ocean and because of its always relatively low winds, the particles and emissions could not be blown and dissipated into the atmosphere, creating a blanket of smog that slowly engulfed the city. Although air pollution control programs had been implemented before, they had been unsuccessful. The first significant action was taken in the fall of 1943. ( Key events in, 2011) To study the issue at hand the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors created a Smoke and Fumes Commission. In the winter of 1943, the city followed some of the commission s suggestions by banning dense smoke emissions and establishing an office for the Director of Air Pollution Control. After studying the true magnitude of the issue, the Los Angeles Times hired an air pollution expert, Raymond R. Tucker, to help come up with more solutions. After a long investigation, Tucker made 23 recommendations including citing smoking trucks and banning garbage incinerators in dumps and backyards. He also disproved the notion that the pollution was only the factories fault. Caution should be exercised in placing the entire blame on any one industry, plant or group of individuals, he wrote. • 17. The Nicene Creed Essay The Nicene Creed is the creed or profession of faith that was adopted in the city of Nicaea by the first ecumenical council, which met there in the year 325. At that time, the text ended after the words We believe in the Holy Spirit , after which an anathema was added. The doctrine of the Trinityis commonly expressed as: One God, three Persons , but this word Trinity does not appear in the Bible. Athanasius then famously said Athanasius against the world . The Cappadocian Fathers also took up the torch; their Trinitarian discourse was influential in the council at Constantinople.Up until about 360, theological debates mainly dealt with the Divinity of Jesus, the 2nd person of the Trinity. However, because the Council of Nicaea had not clarified the divinity of the Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Trinity, it became a topic of debate. The council affirmed the original Nicene Creed of faith as true and an accurate explanation of Scripture. This council also developed a statement of faith which included the language of Nicaea, but expanded the discussion on the Holy Spirit to combat the heresy of the Pneumatomachi. It is called the Nicene Creed of 381 and was a commentary on the original Nicene formula. It expanded the third article of the creed dealing with the Holy Spirit, as well as some other changes. About the Holy Spirit the article of faith said he is the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified . The statement of proceeding from the Father is seen as significant because it established that the Holy Spirit must be of the same being as God the Father. ESSAY 3 The second and third century African theologian Tertullian took exception to this widespread doctrine.

How The Past Can Assist The Modern Criminal Justice System Principally, changes in political climate with various governments occupied through times of war, plague and famine, have led to rapid changes in social values, priorities and economic environments. These factors are considered to be paramount during the application of historical methodologies, not least to studies pertaining to the CJS and its subsidiaries. Moreover, In 1948, Sir Leon Radzinowicz... [believed] ...lessons of the past can assist the modern criminal justicesystem (as cited in Godfrey, Lawrence and Williams, 2008, p. 16). Criminologists research to understand whether policing was and is pragmatic, idealistic or both and how it has become so rooted into the constitution despite its often hostile critique. From 1750, for two centuries, policing is considered to have been revolutionary. An initial unwillingness to relinquish a very British sense of liberalism was swiftly outweighed by the advocacy of a bourgeois ruling class, seeking to protect their property and an acceptance from lower classed service users (Emsley, 1983). Whig historians positively viewed policing of the past as a strong foundation (Godfrey et al., 2008, p. 17). Critically, Marxism argues that the hierarchal social stratum is maintained through the criminalisation and marginalisation of the poorest in society. Consistently, political legislation has only been accessible by the elite, resulting in laws which are considerate of their own interests and keep the proletariats in order
  • 21. Historical Analysis Of Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez Historical Analysis of Zoot Suit Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s. This story also deals with the intercultural struggles between Mexican Americans and white Americans. In this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what events in history influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical influences are used to create a realistic screenshot of the 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angles was going through huge demographics changed in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American service men rushed to Los Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American production increased. The youth was partaking in jazz culture and began wearing zoot suits. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with Mexican violence. Eventually, tensions rose between the rebelling Mexican American youth and Marines because the servicemen found it their responsibility to straighten the youth up. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that left hundreds injured. As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots; racism was the central cause of the riots ( People Events ). The script takes place before and during the riots and is intended portray the discrimination of the era. The author of the play, Luiz Valdez, is a 76 year old Mexican American male that is known to be the father of Chicanoplays. He earned a degree in theater from San Jose State University and founded El Teatro Campesino (Albert). El Teatro would perform for migrant farm workers. Valdez grew up working alongside his parents in the field. This led to Valdez be an activist; his theater would perform plays to aid the farm worker strikes by lifting the spirits of the protesters. For that, Valdez became an influential leader in the Chicano movement. He had interesting early life experiences that gave him inspiration for his plays. In Zoot Suit, the protagonist

Your child s soul is sucked out of her body by a stranger your child has never met before. Imagine your child making world news and being put in history books because of the evil negligence of another fellow American. This reality was true for the families of the victims in the Ballad of Birmingham poem. In my opinion, this is a well structured essay by Dudley Randall which describes minutes before an innocent girl dies in one of the most unimaginable ways. Secondly, I disagree with the way Dudley Randall ended the poem. Even though the reader can assume what happened to the child, the poem slightly leaves you with a cliffhanger. The child s lifeless body cannot be found by her desperate and destitute mother. The audience can be left feeling melancholy and incomplete. Lastly, Randall, in my opinion, strategically wrote stanza five in the poem very well, She has combed and brushed her night dark hair, And bathed rose petal sweet, And drawn white gloves on her small brown hands, And white shoes on her feet (Randall 19). Lastly, the white gloves and white shoes represent purity and innocence of the adolescent. The way the little girl brushes her black hair and bathes in sweet aromas represents the child s vulnerability and how sweet the little things are in life. The main point of the poem which describes the mask as a grin, but can lie . It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes (Line 2) gives the reader a mental picture with the use of imagery. As well, the extra spacing at the beginning of line two emphasizes the word hiding . This mask hides its own existence, of agonizing misery and hardship. Many people put it on to fit into society. When Dunbar says, With torn and bleeding hearts we smile , (Line 4) it explains the worldly power of the mask. The debt we pay to human guile, (Line 3) means the unhappiness they feel is related to them deceiving others. Both lines are hyperboles that emphasize the struggle behind the mask. The figurative language not only shows the theme of discernment, but shows its impact. In addition, applying the words, we and our gives the poem an all inclusive feel which creates an auxiliary meaning. In the second stanza, Dunbar asks a rhetorical question to prove a point. One should not let others make them suffer by hiding all feelings and emotions from society. When he says, Why should the world be overwise, / In counting all our tears and sighs? (Line 6 7), it contradicts the idea that this poem is universal with the phrase the world . Throughout the poem, the time frame of the publication does not shift the poem at all. But one would

An essential point in persuading the province to enter the Confederation was a promise to build the railway; this railway would connect to the Pacific coast as well as the rest of the country. Cutting through the Rocky Mountains was one of the most difficult parts of building the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the time, there were several reasons to employee Chinese immigrant workers. One of great importance was the fact that Chinese immigrant workers were paid lower wages than Caucasian workers. By using the Chinese immigrant workers, the estimated reduction in cost for building the railway ranged between $3 million and $5 million. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the amount of discrimination shown historically against immigrants of Chinese decent, it would be expected that the Chinese would be disenfranchised with their status in life; and in turn work outside of the law to get the advancement he/she deserved (Chapin, 2012). However, this is not the case as the Chinese appear to be content to keep their heads down and just do the work. The Chinese describe this attitude as renming , meaning one who acknowledges his/her fate. As the Chinese immigrant population is approaching a twenty percent share, the crime rate per capita has decreased annually since 1991; when immigration was at its lowest (Zhang,
  • 41. Comparing Cardinal Richelieu s Practice of Ruler Ship to... Some regard nineteenth century France to be the France of NapolГ©on Bonaparte and, in the same respect, it can be argued that ancien rГ©gime France was the France of Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu. By rejecting conventional morals, disregarding haughty ideals, and promoting ruthless tactics, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The burden of paying taxes fell upon the peasantry since the majority of nobility and high bourgeoisie were either exempt or effortlessly evaded payment. The social distress amongst the peasantry caused by the war taxation resulted in several uprisings between 1636 and 1639, which the Cardinal crushed violently and dealt with the rebels in a harsh manner which Machiavelli would have promoted.# However, when examining to what extent Machiavelli s maxims on ruler ship applied to Richelieu s own experiences, it is important to understand that a state s domestic affairs and it s international ones are mutually constitutive. It is apparent that the issue of internal security was crucial and impacted France s status in the international arena. From 1624 8, Richelieu s foreign policy was jeopardized by national concerns: the revolt of the Huguenots and inconveniences resulting from those who directly opposed him within France, specifically the noblesse and the peasantry. With increasingly power acquiring factions, Richelieu understood that the greater part of educated, intelligent French citizens wished for a sound
