written by Amy Tan, Ni Kan is the queen of underachievers. She determines at a young age to become
defiant to her mom. After experiencing disappointment from letting her mom down, Ni Kan
determined that she would become an underachiever and intentionally failed throughout her life.
What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of their
life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than disappointed in her
became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom.

to warn his fellow townspeople. However, the latter did not believe him yet alone listen to him. They
called him the madman. This passage is hard for the reader, who knows what is going to happen to the
Jews later on (situational irony). Moché was also foreshadowing what was going to happen to the
Jews. This warning also brings about the postulation that many Jews could have escaped the

For my ethnography project I chose to study the life at my parent s group home located in Hudson,
WI. For the paper I will refer to the group homes as living well one and two. Also I will not give out

Skills Learned Over the course of three months I have learned more about the field of development
and myself than ever before. There were many things that surprised me, both positively and

structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an
essential foundation of expert writing. Therefore the deconstruction of mentor texts, analysis of text
structure and developing topic knowledge was built into the reading programme and the initial draft
writing sessions. The elaborating ideas session was focused on writing for an audience and ensuring
their writing provide their audience with appropriate, specific and depth of information. The changing
vocabulary sessions focused on identifying common words and replacing or adding synonyms that
were rarely used in their writing. Following each inquiry cycles one or two substantial changes were
