In December 1917, almost 100 years ago, a French cargo ship (SS Mont Blanc)
filled with explosives collided with a Norwegian ship (SS Imo). A fire started on
the Norwegian ship, and after 20 minutes the fire became uncontrollable, soon
spreading to Mont Blanc, igniting the explosives and causing a very large
explosion. The blast killed approximately 2000 people, injuring about 9000, and
leaving over 25000 people with no shelter. The explosion took place on December
6th in the Narrows, a strait connecting the upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin.
The blast s effect was mostly in the Richmond district, but it affected other spots

missing component of the traditional utility model.
In order to demonstrate flaws of the traditional view, Kahneman supports three
principles of prospect theory with various examples. First, by pointing out errors in
Bernoulli s model and the indifferent model, Kahneman emphasizes the broad range
of the reference point, that it is not only the change of wealth, but also the context
and the mindset. Second, Kahneman analyzes loss aversion, one of the dominant

Nowadays, the health system is still exerting more efforts on quantity instead of
quality of life for elder people. Life quality could always be sacrificed for the sake of
longevity. Such an idea has put millions of elder people living long lives living in
long term pain and suffering. Firstly, our health care professionals haven t become
aging ready. Little resources are invested into the study of Geriatrics: Less than 20%
of the medical schools in the United States have full departments of Geriatrics. Dr.
Ken Dychtwald once said: Our 21st century health breakthroughs have given us old
people, and now we can t figure out how to keep them healthy. Secondly, too little
freedom is placed in the hands of elder people in deciding their own lives. They ought
to be granted full authority in things such as whether to accept aggressive medical
treatments conditioning on their consciousness.
In addition, as the population is aging, there exists an increasing financial burden on
the elder people as well as their families and the entire society. Advanced technology
and health care have already brought us into the age of longevity, but the financial

multitude of different ways while being represented in different formats. In the
novel Mrs. Dalloway, the story is being told through the perspective of multiple
characters. While each part seems to have a connection with one another, each part
affects the overall story. For example, when Mrs. Dalloway sees Septimus for the
first and only time, it allows the reader to connect Septimus s mindset with Mrs.
Dalloway s mindset. Even though Septimus and Mrs. Dalloway belong to two
different classes in society, their struggles can be viewed as a parallel, meaning that
their experiences during the day can be compared and contrasted as time passes in
the novel. Mrs. Dalloway pulls herself away from thoughts of the past in order to
prepare of the party she will be hosting in the future. Septimus, on the other hand, is
mentally stuck in a chaotic fusion of his past and present. Another good example of
consciousness is Peter Walsh, when he is introduced; he reveals the consciousness of
someone who is hindered in the present by his past decisions and wishes to move on.

Today, the medical records of most Americans are scattered across multiple clinics
and hospitals, possibly across several states. The task of piecing together a patient
s medical history can become quite time consuming and laborious, as the files first
need to be located and then faxed [5]. The possibility of combining medical records
into a central medical database would solve many of these problems, as well as
bring new benefits. With a shared medical database, doctors would have vital
information about a patient at their fingertips. Very little time would be lost in
looking for a patient s medical records and piecing the data together.
A shared medical database would save lives by providing accurate and complete
information to doctors, especially those not familiar with their patients. For instance,
if a person had a serious accident while vacationing in a different state, the doctors
there would have instant access to his medical records in his home state. Locating the
patient s family doctor and faxing the patient s medical history would be unnecessary.
If the patient has allergies to certain drugs, the doctors would be aware of it, thus
avoiding further complications [6]. With more complete information, doctors would
be given the power to treat an unfamiliar, out of state patients in a timely and effective
manner.
