Essay On Feminism
Crafting an essay on the subject of feminism can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate
balance of sensitivity, critical analysis, and a nuanced understanding of a complex social
movement. The difficulty lies not only in presenting the historical context of feminism but also in
exploring its multifaceted dimensions in contemporary society.
To begin with, one must navigate through the intricate history of feminism, delving into its
various waves and acknowledging the diverse voices that have contributed to its evolution.
Understanding the foundational ideologies, from suffrage movements to the more recent
intersections with race, class, and gender identity, adds a layer of complexity to the task.
Striking the right balance between acknowledging progress and addressing ongoing challenges
requires a thorough examination of societal structures and systemic inequalities.
Moreover, the essay should embrace the diversity of feminist perspectives, from liberal feminism
advocating for legal and political equality to radical feminism challenging underlying power
structures. Intersectionality, recognizing the interconnectedness of various social categories,
demands a careful exploration to avoid oversimplification or exclusion of voices within the
movement.
Addressing the controversies and criticisms surrounding feminism further complicates the task.
Tensions may arise when discussing issues such as the portrayal of feminism in popular media,
debates within the movement, or the misconception that feminism is synonymous with misandry.
Balancing the need for critique with an appreciation of the movement's positive impacts is crucial
to presenting a comprehensive and fair analysis.
Furthermore, the evolving nature of feminism requires a contemporary lens, with an
understanding of its manifestations in the digital age and its role in shaping cultural narratives.
The essay should reflect on how social media has both amplified feminist discourse and
presented new challenges, such as performative activism and the risk of tokenization.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on feminism demands a deep understanding of its historical
roots, a nuanced exploration of contemporary manifestations, and a sensitivity to the diversity of
perspectives within the movement. It is a task that necessitates thorough research, critical
thinking, and an awareness of the ever-changing sociocultural landscape. While challenging, the
opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on feminism makes the endeavor both
rewarding and necessary.

The Colonialization Of North America During The
Colonial...
North America during the Colonial period had resources the Europeans dreamed
about. For example, the mighty Mississippi River for trading and transportation, the
pine trees for lumber, and the rich soil in the south for growing crops. The Europeans
saw the potential of economic opportunity in North America. The Native Americans
viewed North Americaas sacred and took care of their land as much as possible.
When the Europeans arrived, the deer population plummeted due to the need of meat
from the Europeans. The New England colonists realized that the soil in New
England was unreliable because of the unfertile soil and the weather. When the
Europeans came to North America, they carried numerous diseases with them. Keep
in mind that the Europeans traveled by ship for months and some ships had an
infestation of rats and mosquitoes. Vaccinations did not exist during the Exploration
years so, explorers and the Natives had diseases of small pox, pneumonia, and
yellow fever. The Native Americans were dying by the numbers because of the
European diseases that they came into contact with the Europeans. Several Native
American tribes had healers which the Europeans thought were Doctors. The Native
Americans used nuts, berries, and certain plants to heal either a snakebite, scratch,
wounds from animal attacks, and skin diseases. The Europeans thought that some of
the Indian practices were witchcraft because of the heavy European Christian
beliefs. The Native Americans actually helped to cure several European diseases.
When the first Colonists of Virginia arrived, the population was declining because of
the disease and starvation. As time went on, the immigrants from Europe began to
increase due to the Civil War, crowded population, or famine. The Europeans tasted
other different food sources that the Native Americans had grown such as, pumpkins,
potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and squash. These crops were foreign to the
Europeans. The Native Americans used food as a peace offering to the Europeans as
a sign of hospitality. The trade between the Europeans and the Indians were
challenging according to the Europeans. Some of the Native Americans were open to
trading and exchanging ideas to the Europeans. As long as
Zappos Customer Service
1. Zappos logistics contribute to its core competency and competitive advantage
Sharing Information with Suppliers Zappos has a very special relationship with all
of its suppliers. Through every interaction they work to WOW them by not only
being great business partners but Zappos shares all of their inventory information with
them. They developed an Extranet which allows venders to see on hand inventory,
sales and pricing and margins. This insight provides Zappos with a clear competitive
advantage when it comes to managing their inventory. Instead of only having internal
buyers worry about when and what to purchase the venders themselves can make
recommendations. If a supplier sees that one item is selling really well they can ...

This move would have severe tradeoffs when it comes to customers and UPS.
Currently Zappos is UPS number 3 next day air shipping customer. By not utilizing
this service it could have a significant impact on UPS and Zappos relationship with
UPS. Even though Zappos would still use UPS for the ground shipping, UPS would
see a significant revenue drop since next day air shipping is more expensive.
Since only 60% of customers would receive their order within 2 days the other 40%
would not get that WOW factor of fast delivery. Zappos is known for its fast delivery
and service and without that customer satisfaction may drop. Having 40% of
customers not being having a WOW experience could significantly hurt the customer
base.
3. Expanding the business
I would expand Zappos by extending the supply web to current retailers such as
Target or Macy s. Take Target for example. On Target.com they have an extensive
shoe selection which the inventory needs to be stored in a Target distribution
center. Zappos could hold this inventory and make the shipments when someone
orders shoes on Target.com. This would benefit both Target and Zappos. Target
would be able to reduce their shoe inventory in their distribution centers. They
would also be able to offer wider selection of shoes on Target.com. Zappos would
benefit by gaining a large portion of new customers who are regular Target guests. A
second way I would expand Zappos would be to rely more on
Biography of Sylvia Plath
Critical Analysis Sylvia Plath, a great American author, focuses mostly on actual
experiences. Plath s poetry displays feelings and emotions. Plath had the ability to
transform everyday happenings into poems or diary entries. Plath had a passion
for poetry and her work was valued. She was inspired by novelists and her own
skills. Her poetry was also very important to readers and critics. Sylvia Plath s work
shows change throughout her lifetime, relates to feelings and emotions, and focuses
on day to day experiences. Plath s difficulties with narrative prose contrasts between

Sylvia Plath had the ability to get emotional responses through her word pictures
and poems. Plath was also able to create a picture from her trip to Spain, tied up
ships, or even a beautiful beach setting (Magill 2225). Spring of 1959, Plath
randomly wrote Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dream, a first person short story
that is written in a voice that resembles terror (Hughes 1). Plath later work shows
the strong dissatisfaction of her dreams. Plath dreamt of discovering cheerfulness
through work, marriage, and family, which was a disappointment, caused by a
miscarriage and appendectomy, her divorce, and mood swings. Plath felt
defenseless to men and apocalyptic to natural forces, mainly death (Draper 2734).
Plath s post obituary writings imitate the persisting importance in her work. Three
Women: A Monologue for Three Voices (1968), originally published on British
Radio in 1962, discusses pregnancy of three women (Draper 2735). Plath was
inspired to write The Jailer which was about her husband who drugged then raped
her. Plath eventually became The Lever of His Wet Dreams. The exact prodigy
occurs in most of her confessional poems, mainly in Daddy (Magill 2224). Plath s
tone changes throughout most of her poems (Magill 2228). In Daddy, Plath tells
about herself being rebellious in her poems (Magill 2229). No writer has meant more

1970 Civil Defense
The fact that these lack any reference to fear or anger demonstrates that civil defense
was working remarkably well in North Dakota in 1964.
While civil defense was effective in 1964, six years passed before protests over the
ABM emerged. Civil defense had more than enough time to erode during this time,
but it did not. Government produced civil defense literature produced between 1964
and 1970 shows the government still had an interest in promoting the psychological
purpose of civil defense. Material produced by local civil defense groups, as well as
further newspaper coverage, demonstrated this was successful.
The first sources to examine are the Government plans regarding civil defense in the
six year period between the installation of the Minuteman Missiles and the
installation of the ABM. The government plans were a result of President Kennedy s
increased funding and focus on civil defense. The major program was the Home

civil defense documents of 1961. According to the plan, the United States
Department of defense conducted, intensive studies in the effects of hypothetical
large scale nuclear attacks against the United States, and the study concluded, tens of
millions of people would survive the blast and heat effects of the weapons, but that
most of these survivors would be threatened by lethal or disabling fallout radiation.
This statement is meant to create urgency surrounding nuclear attack. The survey
started in 1961, and by January of 1967, it had identified fallout shelter space meeting
defense Department criteria for 155,000,000 people
Technology In The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
In my story ВЁThe PedestrianВЁ the story takes place in 2052 and is based
around technology. The main character s name is Leonard and he is a very lonely
character who likes to experience the real world. Leonard likes to walk at night
while everyone else is inside watching tv. When he walks at night all of the streets
are vacant as he describes as he has been walking for many years and thousands of
miles and he had never seen anyone else in all of time he had been walking. The
theme of the story ВЁThe PedestrianВЁ is technology taking over society.
Leonard exemplifies that technology can lead to negative consequences. Ray

Employee Attitude as a Function of Job Satisfaction
EMPLOYEE ATTITUDE AS A FUNCTION OF JOB SATISFACTION
Introduction There is confusion and debate among practitioners on the topic of
employee attitudes and job satisfaction even at a time when employees are
increasingly important for organizational success and competitiveness. Happy
employees are productive employees. Happy employees are not productive
employees. We hear these conflicting statements made by HR professionals and
managers in organizations. This research aims at establishing job satisfaction as a
basis for employee attitude; whether good or bad and we will do this by answering
three questions: What are the causes of employee attitudes? , What are the results of
positive and negative job reaction? and How can we measure... Show more content on

What is employee attitude? In other to have a panoramic understanding of this
terminology, a conceptual clarification would suffice. What is an attitude? An
attitude can be described as an expression of favor or disfavor towards a person,
place, thing or event which is as a result of either a negative or positive evaluation
of the object of affect. Employees have viewpoints about many aspect of their job,
career, Organization. The above explanation gives us the idea that attitude can
either be positive or negative. Thus employee attitude can be described as an
employee s expression either positive or negative towards his/her job, career or
organization. How then do we make a distinction between positive and negative
employee attitudes? Generally, It is in their promotion of organizational goals.
Therefore, positive employee attitudes can be said to be in agreement with
organizational goals thereby promoting it while negative employees can be said to
be against organizational goals thereby suppressing organizational goals. This
explains why employee attitude is easily cited as the number one performance
related issue of companies. From the perspective of research and practice, the most
focal employee attitude is job satisfaction. Thus, we often refer to employee attitudes
broadly in this article, although much of our specific focus will concern job
satisfaction. In the midst of all this, one little question crosses the mind; what are the
Country Snapshots--China
Nowadays, China, the emerging market in Asia, contains huge business opportunities.
At the same time, because of the different culture and history, the characteristics of
Chinese society including its source of power, social order, and solidarity, is actually
very different from the West. The big difference is that Chinais a relationship oriented
society. For this reason, how can Westerner adapt the ways of doing business in
China? Here are three recommendations for the entrepreneurs that want to enter the
Chinese market.
пЃ¬Learn The Crucial Concept of Face

Dealing your business with key person is important for growing the relationship in
China. Building up good relations with government officials is not always wrong.
This is indeed the key to the success during a short period of time.
пЃ¬Indirect Communication Style
The communication style in China is indirect. For Chinese people, the conversation
is one way to build relationships, while in the West, it is to exchange information
effectively in order to get things done as soon as possible. It is uncommon that the
company gets the business done in the first time (Wang).
Very few Chinese who do business directly cut to the chase; they often talk a few
pleasantries with number of disparate topics at first. An example is asking a
government officer Zhang, How is your son? Do his college things all go well? Even
so someone may think that pleasantries are unnecessary, it is a perfect time to work
on your relationship with others. Do not underestimate this part, you need to fully
prepare before you start conversation with the trivial things seemingly insignificant to
the other party. Take the prior conversation for example, in the first place

alluded to as aggregate quality administration.
The quality management completely says about the reputation of organization.

Communism And The Soviet Union
Have you ever had a case of the hiccups that you just couldn t seem to get rid of?
You tried all the tricks in the book, from holding your breath, to standing upside
down, but those pestering hiccups still stuck around? In a sense, many Eastern
European countries had a persistent case of the hiccups, during the early 1990s,
which they were trying to shake. Except this wasn t your average case of the hiccups,
these hiccups were called communism. Following the fall of the Soviet Union in
1991, most post Soviet satellite states began making the transition to become liberal
democracies. However, the transition from communist governments to democratic
governments was not necessarily a smooth one for most of the Eastern European
countries. Decades of oppressive Soviet rule and deep rooted communist parties
made ties to the Soviet Union especially hard to cut. Ukraine, in particular, struggled
mightily to break away from the Russian communists, and that struggle is still
continuing today. In the form of a corrupt government and pro Russian supporters in
South and Eastern Ukraine, roadblocks were created on the Ukrainian road to
democracy that they are still trying to maneuver. In analyzing the challenges posed to
Ukraine in their continuing transition to a liberal democracy, it is important to start
in 1990, when Ukraine officially declared independence. This declaration included
principles of self determination, democracy, and the priority of Ukrainian law over
Soviet law.
Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism
Comparing and Contrasting Christianity to Judaism
There is a close relationship between Christianity and Judaism both from a theological
and historical perspective. The similarities between these two religious platforms
emanates from the notion that Christianity arose and protested from Judaism.
However, it is worth noting that Christianity is not a continuation of Judaism as some
people perceive. Both Jesus and most of his disciples, who pioneered the earliest
Christian churches, were Jews. Particularly, Jesus family practiced and followed
Jewish beliefs, and He frequently referenced the Hebrew bible. On the contrary, the
disciples believed that Jesus was the one and only Messiah, which is predicted in the
Jewish Bible. While the creation narrative is still mysterious to many people, most
individuals are still obsessed with the attempt to discover how everything came to
existence. The primary purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the basic
ideologies of Christianity and Judaism (Neusner, 76).
The primary similarity between Judaism and Christianity is based on the notion
that they regard sin as a rebellion. They affirm that God, through his word, has
made his will well known to all people. Thus, it is a sin to live contrary to this set
will of God and there are consequences. More so, both religions consider God as
being all powerful and supreme and though he allows people to sin, he confines the
freedom. The religions consider that God allows sin as a means of
Dense Drizzly Analysis
How does Doyle create a sense of mystery in Ch3? Conan Doyle uses uses a
combination of literary devices to build up tension and create a sense of mystery I
chapter 3 Doyle uses negative words and descriptions of the atmosphere with the
motif of darkness to bring the reader into the mysterious and miserable atmosphere
of a 19th century London. The case of Mary Morstan is presented to start on a
September evening . This particular choice of month brings the reader into the
cold, foggy and often miserable atmosphere of September. The atmosphere is
highlighted by the sentence the day had been a dreary one,and a dense drizzly fog
lay low upon the great city. Doyle uses alliteration as shown in dense drizzly to
illustrate and intensify the imagery of London in the 19th century. The repetition of
the d sounds can bring the reader onto a journey out into the city streets because
they can remind us of the rolling of wheels such as the ones of the four wheeler
Watson,Holmes and Miss Morstan travelled in, and suggest the thudding of horse
hooves on the pavement which a Victorian audience would be very familiar with.
Doyle gives hints of mystery by using the motif of fog and darkness. The
combination of the two() creates a mysterious setting where nothing is clearly
visible(under the cover of darkness )The word low implies that the mystery is very
close to the ground on which Holmes stands on and suggests he alone is putting
himself towards an unknown destination
Augustus Jackson And Ice Cream
Augustus Jackson was born on April 16, 1808. He was a worker in the White
House when he moved from his hometown in Philadelphia. In the 1820 s he was a
teenager he became one of the top chefs. Then he quit and moved back to
Philadelphia and he opened his own shop as a caterer and a confectioner. When
working with ice cream he discovered that mixing rock salt and ice the salt will act
as a neutral object that controls and lowers the temperature of the ingredients he
used for his ice cream. When he made this discovery he started to sell it inin street
vendors and in ice cream parlors. He found this out in 1834. Soon after the invention
he was named the the father of ice cream . Although he didn t actually invent it. Some
historians say that
Forrest Gump Dynamic Character
Character A person, animal, or creature that takes part in the action of a story, play,
or other literary work. Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks is one of my favorite all
time characters. I chose for stomp as my choice to illustrate the elements of character
because he is the main character that takes part in the whole action of the story.
Forrest Gump is child like, and innocent. His heart warming outlook on life is
inspiring. Forest Gumps naГЇve way of thinking enables him to have no prejudice
against minorities, foreigners or different religious beliefs.
Protagonist This is the main character we can relate to, and is usually, but not always,

A good example of a static characters in Forrest Gump is his mother. Mrs. Gump is
consistently the same throughout the movie. Mrs. Gump is a good hearted southern
single woman. Mrs. Gump treats for Forrest like a normal child and expects others
to do so as well. Mrs. Gump unwaveringly loves Forrest despite his mental and
physical handicaps.
Dynamic changes as a result of the story s events. Severus Snape is a good
example as a dynamic character in Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling s he is always
changing and a surprise of being good and/or evil. I chose Snape as a perfect
example to illustrate a dynamic character because throughout the book he changes a
lot. He is hard and horrible professor and then he becomes the good guy that protects
and saves Harry Potter.
Stereotypical (stock) a character that falls into a stereotype. For example, the
clueless blonde The Breakfast Club movie shows the dumb jock, the druggie or
burn out but at the end it shows the stereotypical character can also have some
twists and shows why they are like the way they are as characters. The
stereotypical character I chose that best illustrates a stock or stereo typical
character is James bond, 007. He is the true definition of spa . James Bond is the true
definition of spy because he is brave, assured, beautifully dressed man even after an
exploding house or car. He has impeccable timing and wit. He is a true lady killer

The Importance Of Communication In Human Services
You brought up a good point about how important communication is and how it has
an impact. Broad examination has demonstrated that regardless of how proficient a
clinician may be, in the event that he or she is not ready to open great
correspondence with the patient, he or she may be of no assistance. Exploration
proof shows that there are solid positive connections between a human services
colleague s communicationabilities and an understanding s ability to finish

Frank Masi
History 127B
How would you explain the emergence and development of Russia s radical
intelligentsia during the post reform era? What were the major ideological positions
and differences? Why were these positions believed to be the only possible paths to
significant political change?
The emergence of the intelligentsia can be heavily attributed to a general feeling of
unease towards the future of the Russian Empire, which is examined by David
Saunders in his book entitled Russia in the Age of Reaction and Reform: 1801 1881 ,
in which he explains how the intelligentsia first came to fruition: The intelligentsia
was not solely the product of aristocratic disillusionment, for Nicholas I s domestic
critics came from both privileged and non privileged parts of the community. The
emergence of the post Decembrist generation of dissidents ought to be related to the
phenomenon of social displacement in general . . . (148)
Developing out of a sense of displacement and members of the intelligentsia felt as
though they had not overcome their own divisions from the masses, and had
recently lost their ties to the state (Saunders 148). The intelligentsia was socially
diverse but was heavily dominated by noble, privileged members of Russian society
who felt marginalized by Catherine the Great s Charter to the Nobility in 1785 and
who witnessed a significant decline in political influence. Catherine was one of the
first ruling members to limit the power of outside groups,

Creative Nursing, 10784535, 2007, Vol. 13, Issue 3 EBSCO. This articles talks
about what it takes to build a resilient work environment. Communicating respect is
a key factor discussed. The article discloses a study done involving 7,000
employees across ten hospitals in Finland. The study asked the employees to rate
their sense of justice within their organization. The hospitals that had low ratings in
the sense of justice have a higher absenteeism rate. Employees treated with a lack of
respect are most likely to call out sick. The rates are higher in men than in women.
The study did not disclose why the disparity.
What happens when employees call out or leave the job? It can raise cost. The study
assumed that it takes about half the ex worker s salary to replace him or her. I am
assuming that this includes recruiting, background checks and training. It is more
cost efficient for organizations to enforce respect than to lose its employees. The
company also incurs cost if there is an increase of employee leave of absence or
counseling sessions. Fewer employees on the job means fewer employees to meet the
goal of production.

In 2012, 16259 people in the United States were murdered and another 1.8 million
people were sent to the hospital due to assault. Humans resorting to violence and
harming others is a daily occurrence, but why? Is it in our nature, are we instinctively
violent, and why is it that these acts are not only happening in the United States but
worldwide. Although the average person does not leave their home planning on

person in this world will commit an act of violence. Sometimes these acts are

You were afraid? Hopper asked. I was scared to death. I still am to tell the truth.

the creature as a threat, which would explain why his instincts were triggered and he
felt he had to kill it. When we feel threatened we react to protect ourselves, we
would not just sit there and let ourselves be harmed if it can be helped, but the

The Major Battles of the Civil War Essay
The Major Battles of the Civil War
No other war seems to hold our focus like the Civil War. Scholars have chosen to
make it their life s work, authors have written reams about it, and we all feel some
kind of connection to the Civil War. This paper was created to highlight some of the
major battles that took place during that conflict. Major battles usually marked a
drastic change in the momentum from one side to the other or led to massive losses of
troops. These battles and their results all played a huge part in the outcome of the war.
One of the war s first battles was the Battle of First Bull Run. Today s site of the

The Death Of A Gun
On Memorial Day in 2012, a boy in Ohio, only three years old, comes across a gun
his father had hidden between the couch and shoots himself in his eye. In North
Carolina, while a mother is cleaning, interrupted by an abrupt sound of a gunshot,
she rushes into the living room, and discovers that her three year old son had shot
her boyfriend s three year old daughter. Then, in Houston, a group of friends come
across a pistol in a closet while trying to find some money for snacks, the fifteen
year old boy carrying the pistol then accidentally shoots another boy, who was only
eleven years old. Unfortunately, these cases happen all too often and it does not just
affect minors who are young children, but also those in their adolescence. In many
incidents like these, parents who fail to properly store their firearms, could have more
than likely prevented a death or injury of another minor. According to the Second
Amendment, citizens have the right to own a gun, however those who have failed to
conceal their guns properly from a minor has caused it to become easily accessible,
and in turn that minor can put themselves or those around him/her at risk; therefore,
it should be enacted nationwide that adults who neglect to hide firearms in their
homes accordingly, should be charged with criminal negligence.

In order to sense why and how it is possible for minors to gain access to firearms, it
needs to be understood that there is an excessive amount of firearms that
You Cannot Trust Fast Food Companies

These advertisements are meant to trick our minds into thinking fast foodis much
better than it is in reality. Although, this argument could be made about just about
any company in this age of brandpersonification, but just because other companies do

and fast food companies are quick to take advantage of this fact. (Sclosser)
Companies take advantage of children for a couple of reasons with the first being the
advantage of brand recognition or branding . When we are young we make strong
connections to things that influence us, such as the comfort a McDonalds hamburger
may bring. Companies know this and by creating a fun atmosphere that is kid
friendly they can create this connection that can last for a lifetime. Fast food
restaurants use kid friendly items such as the playland, kids meal, and toys that
come with the kid s meals. Inventions such as these were created to draw the easily
appeased mind of a child into the restaurant. Children are an easy target for fast food
companies to prey upon, which makes fast food companies extremely eager to utilize
this. As the

Why is same sex marriage considered a social taboo in India?
Srishti Mittal
Abstract
The topic for my research project is Why are same sex marriages a social taboo in
India? I have studied this puzzling social fact by analyzing the data that I have
collected by interviewing over forty people who were born and are currently living
in India. This question interested me because as an Indian studying in the US, I
witnessed the disparity between the two countries acceptability towards same sex
marriages. I questioned that if same sex marriages is becoming increasingly
acceptable in the United States, why is it still such an interdict in India? When I
researched this further, I found that most people say that their religion prohibits
homosexuality, which baffled me especially since India has a rich history of
homosexuality?
In this paper, I tried to discover the real reason behind India s widespread disdain of
homosexuality and found that, as expected, its not religion but sentiments of
insecurity, and lack of education that really are responsible for this negative
perception of homosexuality.

Bernhard Schlink s The Presence Of The Past
Books, films, documentaries, and even memories: each serves to recount past events,
each in a different way. While these accounts of the past are shared, they serve to
provide the audience with an understanding; oftentimes this understanding does not
and cannot portray the effect of certain, unimaginable events in history, such as the
Holocaust, on individuals. In his essay, The Presence of the Past, Bernhard Schlink
brings to the surface some of the inherited struggles that generations of German
people have faced as a result of the Third Reich. Alongside his essay, Schlink also
presents the effect of the past on people in his novel, The Reader, when he presents
the audience with a character placed in a situation that is highly uncommon.... Show

As a civil servant and author, Schlink attempts to alter his as well as later
generations disposition towards not only the past, but also those who lived through
the atrocities of that time. In The Presence of the Past, Schlink briefly describes
that, while he was growing up, Germans lived under veil of the actions of the Third
Reich, best seen when Schlink states, The longer we live with the idea that the past
is something we can and must come to terms with, the more paradoxical this proves
to be (35). As a part of a generation that involuntarily bears the weight of past events,
Schlink believes that those who are oppressed by these burdens must not become
fixated on remembering or forgetting the past, but alternatively must observe these
events and learn from them. The process of learning from past events must include
reflecting on history, which is best seen when Schlink asserts It is righteous to
prepare oneself for possible future situations by looking at past situations and
pondering what one would have done in them (31). Reflecting and learning from the
past is integral to the healing of those who have felt its

Christopher Vasquez 2/9/17 Period 2 The Urge to Travel Have you ever wondered
why some people today do the most absurd, crazy things, even though it can cost
them their life? That question is expressed in the Anglo Saxon poem, The Seafarer.
Although the original writer of the poem is unknown, it was translated from it s
original language to English by Burton Raffel. The author explains the hardships of a
sea traveler in the Anglo saxon times, who had to travel for months, even years,
without seeing their friends and family. It was never certain that they would meet
again, as diseases and conflicts were frequent in this time, which made the job all the
more challenging and anxious. The author describes the elements of this poem by

One of the main themes of the poem is that the speaker has some unknown urge to
move with the sea And yet my heart wanders away, my soul roams with the sea, the
whale s home, wandering to the widest corners. (lines 58 60). He seems to be at a
conflict with himself between wanting to live a stable life, and wanting to travel
the seas. In the end, it seems like no matter what, his heart urges him to travel. The
theme represents mankind s great urge to travel and to explore no matter how life
threatening the journey is. Another recurring theme that the author points out is
fate and the journey to the afterlife. In the poem, God represents fate itself,
controlling people s destiny No man has ever faced the dawn certain which of fate
s three threats would fall: illness, or age, or an enemy s sword, snatching the life
from his soul. (lines 68 71). The author is saying that nothing is going to change our
fate, and we should be fine with that. The only thing that we should worry about is
our inevitable arrival to Heaven. Considering this, the seafarer s ravenous travels
could be a symbolic way of showing the journey and will of the human soul into the

Miss Brill sits in other people s lives, as she watches her life fly away (201).
Mansfield suggests that she finds her life empty, and she finds joy in drama of
other people s lives. Her loneliness was like a bare hole in her heart. Miss Brill
seeks out excitement to remove her latent thoughts of her lonely existence. By
using the other people at the park, Miss Brill finds a temporary filling for her need
of companionship. When Miss Brill speaks about the people around her being in a
theatrical production, it makes her role in life feel important. (202). Even she had
a part and came every Sunday... she was part of the performance after all (202).
Mansfield acknowledges a method to cope with the struggle towards Miss Brill s
realization that she is not important in society anymore. The use of emotional
appeal emphasizes the lonely existence faced in the vision of Miss Brill. Another
key characteristic of Miss Brill is her critical behavior. Miss Brill is extremely
observant of the people and the environment in the park. Mansfield proposes her
critical trait is related to her complete mental lack of companionship. Miss Brill
observes very detailed things about people that others would not notice at first

her. With a detailed eye, Miss Brill also describes how the band

work of Mary Ainsworth, who is probably best known for her elaboration on the
work of John Bowlby and attachment theory, and evaluating how her work has
proved crucial in developing other research surrounding the subject. It is easy
enough to know when you are attached to someone as you can understand how you
feel when you are away from that person and as adults we can put our feelings into
words and describe these feelings. However most of the research into attachment is
carried out on infants and young children, so psychologists have to devise ways of

The experiment is made up of a small room with one way glass, so the behaviour
can easily be observed without being distracting, infants were aged between 12 and
18 months and around 100 middle class American families took part in the procedure.
The situation for each subject was exactly the same, the room was set up the same
and toys were scattered on the floor, though not haphazardly, she set out black tape on
the floor so she knew exactly how the room should be laid out. (Howard Egeth, 2015.)
The behaviour of the Infant was observed in a series of eight episodes that lasted
approximately three minutes each. The different stages were: 1) Mother baby and
experimenter. 2) Mother and baby alone. 3) Stranger joins mother and baby. 4)
Mother leaves baby and stranger alone. 5) Mother returns, stranger leaves. 6) Mother
leaves; baby left completely alone. 7) Stranger returns. 8) Mother returns and stranger
leaves. From this series of observations Ainsworth defined four different types of
attachment. Firstly Secure Attachment which was seen is 60 70% of the infants, the
infant was seen to explore the environment in the mother presence, upset when she
left and not well comforted by the stranger but calms down quickly when the mother
returns. 15 20% of the infants showed Avoidant Attachment, they were not distressed
when their mother left and were equally as comforted by the stranger and their
mother and showed little interest when their mother returned. Resistant Attachment
was shown in 10 15% of cases. This means the infant didn t explore the environment
and was very distressed when their mother left, they avoided the stranger completely
and resisted their mother when she returned. They were not easily comforted. Lastly
is Disoriented Attachment which was shown in 5 10% of the infants involved. These
infants had random outburst and

One of the films mentioned in the Paste article, The Avengers (2012), was the

By treating all workers fairly and encouraging a safe environment thru utilizing the
mistakes made as learning concepts, the worker s morale will improve and the
work they provide will be of abundance (Geffken Eddy, 2011). It is also essential to
maintain services provided by healthcare providers abundant because if a company
was to lose more providers, the existing workers will have to work more and harder
to keep up with the demands from the consumers (patients). Patient safety may be
affected by the increased workloads a healthcare provider accrues, hindering the

The first step, as described by Lewin, is to unfreeze, which involves leadership teams

dependence. It can be shown that rac increased with the increased of frequency (Du,
Burnett, (2000), (Demoulias, Labridis, Dokopoulos Gouramanis, 2007), (Desmet,
Vanalme, Belmans, Van Dommelen, 2008). Some research papers used value from
published graph such as by The Okonite Company and Anixter Inc. (The Okonite
Company, 2001), (Anixter Inc., n.d.). However upon inspection, it was found that
the graph is produced on the basis of fundamental frequency of 60 Hz and using
imperial unit. Some other sources, although on 50 Hz as fundamental basis, give
limited data such as (Moore, 1997), (Coates, n.d). As an alternative, formula from
IEC 287 1 1 was used to calculate the rac (IEC, 1994).
Skin and proximity effects are part of formula to calculate cable ampacity known as
Neher McGrath (NM) method in 1957 (Blackledge, O Connell, Barrett Sung, 2012,
2012). However this method, according to the authors, could not handle a range of
harmonic frequencies. In 1991, Ajit Hiranandani (AH) introduced a way to calculate
temperature and ampacity of a cable using generalised finite difference model
(Hiranandani, 1991). Hiranandani (1995) produced a paper which tackles the
problem of size selection for cable under harmonic condition. In this paper, he
introduced term such as harmonic signature (HS), with reference to
Social Class in Uk
Social Class in UK
The term social class is in UK is a controversial issue,David J Lee said The use of
the concept class in sociology has come under attack , which having many
definitions. And as the tile shows, there are even disagreements over its very
existence. Before we get into the details, at least, let us look at one definition. Social
class is a set of concepts in the social sciences and political theory centered on
models of social stratification in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical
social categories(Grant, J. Andrew (2001). Encyclopedia of International Political
Economy ).British society had social class since the beginning of the history, and the
issue of social class was thoroughly examined ... Show more content on

Marx thinks that the limited power of the worker is the base of the exploitation
and the reason for the conflict. He also believe that both of the class has their own
wariness of the situation and unequal states, they know their social position and
why it is the way it is. But appearance of calm is the result of the education of the
capitalists . The workers are told they world works this way and it is unchangeable,
the both parties are compatible with each other. And he suggests that workers need to
be reeducated to gain control of the mind. Then there will be confrontation and
gaining of leverage in asking for better treatment or even revolution to put an end to
the very existence of class . The radical solution comes from careful philosophical
thinking.
Weber s analysis of class likes Marx s. The difference is he sees the social classes
as more complex classes, and he argues about social stratification in social class with
wider meaning. Weber argues, Marx s famous dictum that Class . . . is ultimately
market situation should be read in the light of his methodological individualism, with
the result that class analysis reduces to a weak rump of residual questions about
natural inequality and
Sliding Filament Theory
How Do We Move?
Many of us go through our daily lives and activities without much thought on how
or why we move our bodies. Walking, jogging, lifting weights or even getting
ourselves
out of bed in the morning requires an intricate pattern of processes that allow us to
move and access our enviroment. Our bodies move through a lever and pulley system
made up of our muscles bones and tendons acting on each other through muscle
contraction and relaxation. (1,3) To understand how a muscle contracts you must first
look at the anatomy of skeletal muscles.

sarcomeres are divided to show
how the sections move during a contraction. The Z line is in the middle of the I bands
and notes the separation of each sarcomere. The I band is light colored because it only
contains the thin filaments actin. The A band contains overlapping actin and myosin,
and the H zone only has myosin filaments. The M line is in the middle of the
sarcomere
and is where the myosin filament is free of cross bridges.
Sliding Filament Theory
The sliding filament theory was first introduced over 50 years ago. Hugh Huxley
and Allan Huxley conducted two independent studies and published them in May
1954.
The theory has been added to, but remains relatively the same to this day.
Before the sliding filament theory, it was widely accepted by most academics that
the protein myosin contracted with the presence of calcium ions. The actin proteins
roll
had not yet been realized. The 1954 theory states that the filaments containing the
proteins myosin and
actin slid past each other and neither filament changed in length. In 1957 Allan
Huxley
added that the myosin has a cross bridge structure that binds, rotates and detaches
from the actin. He also states when energy is released from the conversion of ATP to
ADP it creates a power stroke that moves the filaments past each other. (6)

Summary Of The Empirical Formula Of Magnesium Sulfate
Hydrate
The goal of this lab was to find the empirical formula of Magnesium sulfate hydrate.
To determine this formula, we measured and recorded the mass of an empty clay
crucible. We then poured a small amount of Epsom salt into the crucible, and then
recorded the mass of the filled crucible. We then subtracted the weight of the empty
crucible from the weight of the crucible with Epsom saltto determine the mass of the
Epsom salt. We then lit a bunsen burner, and manipulated the airflow to allow for the
optimal (hottest) flame. We then placed the bunsen burner under a clay triangle,
suspended roughly 4 cm above the nozzle of the burner. Next, the crucible with the
Epsom salt was placed on the triangle, and was heated by the bunsen burner for 8
minutes. After 8 minutes, the bunsen burner was turned off, and the crucible was
set to cool for 5 minutes. After cooling, we measured and recorded the mass of the
crucible. We then placed the crucible over the bunsen burner for 5 minutes, and
then set it to cool for another 5 minutes. The mass of the crucible was then
measured and recorded again. The crucible was placed over the burner and the mass
recorded twice, to ensure that all of the water had burned out. With our knowledge
that Epsom salt was made of MgSO4 and water, we were able to isolate the amount
of Magnesium sulfateand water in our substance. This was done by subtracting the
mass of the crucible after burning from the mass of the crucible before burning. The

The Impact Of Ontario s Climate Change Mitigation And

The government sets an industry wide limit to carbon production. Corporations that
produce more than the set carbon limit are able to buy allowances from
corporations who produce below the allowed amount. This creates a market for
carbon so that companies can actually make money by reducing their carbon output.
As time progresses, the government will incrementally lower the cap, which will
reduce the number of allowances issued and increase their price. Ontario s Climate
Change Mitigation and Low carbon Economy Act, 2016 (the Climate Act ), creates
a cap and trade system that covers 82 percent of Ontario s direct emissions. This
system covers all fossil fuels (e.g., gasoline, diesel and natural gas) used in Ontario
by individuals,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the government claimed that using Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account
funds to subsidize electricity prices would produce 3 Mt in emission reductions. We
found no evidence to support this claim and concluded that subsidizing electricity
rates is not an acceptable use of these funds. Fortunately, the government is no longer
proposing to divert Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account funds in this way.
The EU ETS was officially launched in 2005. It was the first and largest market
based regulation mechanism to reduce GHG emissions and can be considered the
flagship policy of the European Commission (EC) in its fight against climate
change. To date, it operates in the 28 member states of the EU, plus Lichtenstein,
Norway, and Iceland. The main principle of the EU ETS is cap and trade , where
cap refers to an EU wide cap for GHG emissions set by the EC that is progressively
reduced each monitoring period. Companies under the cap are required to cover
their emissions with EU emission allowances (EUAs), which are handed out free of
charge or auctioned. EUAs, however, can be traded among facilities or countries
enabling those that run short of allowances to purchase additional EUAs and so
avoid penalization in the event of non submission. More specifically, installations
subject to the policy have to surrender one allowance for every ton of CO2 that they
emit; otherwise,
Reinstatement of Softball Into the 2016 Olympics
PLAY BALL!! This is a saying that has been used for many years in softball as well
as in baseball. Now, those two words will not be heard in the Olympics for at least
half a decade. Softball is a big part in the lives of many women and taking it out of
the 2012 Olympics is crushing their dreams. The sport should be reinstated in the
2016 Olympics because the sport will die if it is not, it gives young girls a dream,
and it will greatly decrease the amount of women participating in the Olympic Games
. Softball has been in the Olympics since 1996 and now the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) has decided to take it out. Taking softball out of the Olympics cut
the amount of funding to the USA team which means that... Show more content on

Jenae Leles, USA softball women s national team rookie says it [is] a lot of young
girls dream to play softball further than college and into the Olympics. [She] thinks
they do need to get it back so the young girls can pursue their dreams. They need to
get it back for them (Players Dream). The Olympics tied softball with baseball
together and they thought it would be a good decision, but what they didn t put
into perspective was that baseball has the major league that pays their players
millions of dollars a year and softball does not. They also should have put into
perspective how they crushed so many hopes and dreams. The International Olympic
Committee had no idea what they were doing when they made the vote to cut the
sport; they were just thinking that it would be good for the Olympics to have
something new. Now, because the IOC did not take the millions of girls around the
world s dreams in to consideration, they have broken these girls hearts.
The International Olympic Committee was just trying to do the best to keep the
Olympics interesting. The IOC thought that since softball has the PFX and NPF
leagues then the young girls will have a dream of playing for them instead of for the
Olympics team. Denny states that these girls have a better shot at playing after
college now. Before, with just an Olympic team and
Freedom Against Unreasonable Search and Seizure Essay
As said by the Fourth Amendment, the right of the people to be secure in their
persons, houses, papers, and effects, against an unreasonable search and seizures,
shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things be seized. In simplest terms the Fourth
Amendment says that all searches are to be conducted under authority of a warrant(
Barany). Many times this amendment is violated which can result in the dismissal
of a case, release of a guilty suspect, or the arrest of an innocent individual that was
not properly been given his or her rights. In this paper topics involving the violations

Now a police officer has the right to detain and search any an all individuals
without a warrant, just as long as she or he can justify a suspicion that the suspect
may be armed. Also anything that an officer feels during pat downs may be used
as probable cause for a complete and unwarranted search. Since the Terry vs. Ohio
case the stop and frisk power had now been extended to the power to frisk cars
(Cronin ,145 147). There are a few exceptions to the general rule against
warrantless search and seizure though., some of which I will review are : the plain
view exception, emergency situation exception, automobile exception, and the
border search exception. The plain view exception refers to the police using the five
senses: sight , hearing, smell, taste, and touch. By these means anything detected
does not have the Fourth Amendment protection if police officers are lawfully
present when they detect something (Berger). So in general, anything of evidence
nature of another crime that is immediately observed without search is seizurable.
For this the three pronged test is used: 1) a officer engaged in an activity of lawful
nature at the time; 2) the object (s) of incriminating character was , from the start,
apparent and my no means concealed; 3) the police or official had lawful access to
the object and was accidentally discovered (Dash, 15 16, 19). The second is the
emergency situation exception. This exception is
Rhetorical Questions In My Last Duchess By Robert
Browning
The poem My Last Duchess is a historical event that involves the Duke of Ferrara
and Alfonso who lived in the 16th century. Robert Browning My Last Duchess
presents a narrative about a recently widowed Duke who talks with an emissary had
come to an arranged marriage with another lady from a powerful and wealthy family.
In the perspective of Duke, power and wealth were integral in marriage and was
determined to be married to a wealthy lady from a famous family. As the Duke
orients the emissary through the palace, he stops and shows a portrait of the late
Duchess who was a lovely and young girl. The Duke then begins by stating
information about the picture and then to the Duchess. Duke claims that the
Duchess flirted with everyone and did not appreciate the history of the family: gift
of a nine hundred years old name. (33) However, when an individual continues to
read the poem, it is evident that the Duke played an important role in killing the
lady. Duke states that he gave commands; / Then all smiles stopped together (45 46)
he used these words to define the death of his beloved Duchess. The aim of the essay
is to analyze literary devices that emphasize the content of the poem, which includes
rhetorical questions, exclamation mark, and em dash.
Browning has used extensively rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions are
questions that are posted in a literary work that does not need an answer: the
strategic aims of rhetorical questions are for emphasizing an issue or creating an
object. Duke indicates the aspect of misogyny through stating Will t please you sit
and look at her? I said. (5) This is not a suggestion but indicates an aspect of
command especially when he completes the state with I said. Reading the poem
shows that the Duke never appreciated women or had a negative perspective of
women, which may have contributed to the death of Duchess. The approach taken is
a form of objectification of women, which may have been right at the time but the
current society frown about it. In addition, the Duke wants the reader to sympathize
with him and he states A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad, (22) indicating
that he lacks the wording for his comments. Even though he may have contributed
The Music of Claude Debussy
When one thinks of impressionistic composers, it is only natural for Claude Debussy
to be part of the subject. However, it is rare that impressionism and classical form are
mentioned within the same breath. For that reason, it is necessary to remind oneself
that the free flowing music of the contemporary only exists by standing on the
shoulders of the rigidly methodical music that came before it. Claude Debussy s First
Violin Sonata exemplifies this beautifully. Though the harmonic language is that of
parallelisms and unstable key centers, motivically, the piece is balanced around the
same Sonata Principal that governed Debussy s forefathers, going back to Beethoven
and Haydn.
Claude Debussy s First Violin Sonata was completed in 1917, in the year before
Debussy s passing. These three fiery movements represent some of the more
aggressive music that Debussy has written, rather than the more mellow Preludes he
is commonly known for. The harmonic vocabulary of Debussy would quickly make
one realize that instead of gleaming the Sonata Principal out of the relationship
between I and V, Debussy would do that with the relationship between sonorities that
are unstable and even less stable.
The piece is in Sonata form, with a complete Exposition, Development, and modified
Recapitulation. However, the key areas don t reflect that the way the listener might
expect. Being that the vast majority of this piece is in G, it is musical material other
than key areas that one must use in order

Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp
The Holocaust was an awful time in world history: the concentration camps played a
big role in this awful unnecessary experience.
The concentration camp Bergen Belsen was established in 1940 but continued on its
construction to build more parts of the camp. Bergen Belsen was located just south of
the small towns Bergen and Belsen. Bergen Beslen was a large camp that had eight
parts. Some were called residence camp, tent camp, small women s camp, large
women s camp, prisoners camp, and the neutrals camp(https://www.ushmm.org/wlc

Dysentery. There was a major outbreak of these diseases in the first few months of it
being built. People also died from starvation because they did not have a lot of food.
In fact some people would go days without food or water. With more people coming
into this specific camp food amount per person shrunk and fresh water was not in the

With more people coming into the camps there were more jobs available. Most
people worked outside on construction projects, farm or coal mines which some

Pierre Elliot Trudeau s War Measures Act
Just watch me are the defiant words uttered by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot
Trudeau in response to the Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ), a Marxist group
captaining Quebec independence through indiscriminate political violence. His words
are not those of an iron fisted strongman, despite how strong and undetailed his
comments were at the time, but those of a calculated and well versed leader, whose
decisions came at the behest of prominent Quebecpoliticians. The FLQ instilled a
decade of social violence in the streets of Quebec by systemically championing the
struggles of French minorities who perceived unjust treatment in everyday life. Their
qualms quickly evolved from protest to a Marxist movement, which incorporated

LaPorte was later killed in the first assassination since Thomas d Arcy McGee and
Cross s life was traded for immunity for some FLQ members. These actions set off
the only implementation of the act in non wartime eras, reinforcing the limits of
justice and political process. LaPorte was not an enemy of the group, rather a
Quebec minister of labour. Upon his death, it was stated, LaPorte was killed and
left in the drunk of an abandoned car. In addition to the murder of LaPorte, the
FLQ s actions were responsible for the deaths of seven people (Gurr, Ross, 1989).
The murder of an elected diplomat, in execution style displayed the absolute,
unwavering need for Trudeau to rule with absolute power. The FLQ had grown
powerful enough to kill elected politicians and Trudeau needed to send a military
message that there would not be a violation of Canadian ideals. The military stance
was an effective message and provided necessary backup to police forces to deal
with the threat of selective assassination. This response was as moral as it was
military, and enforced confidence in both Canada s military, but also Trudeau. His
actions could dismantle and scatter the youth of the FLQ, and brought
What Is The Tone Of La Belle Dame Sans Merci
In John Keats La Belle Dame sans Merci, the speaker expresses his love for a fairy
woman where he explains, I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful a faery s child,
(Keats,13,14).Giving the idea But he was lullГЁd (33) to sleep by the woman who
he thought once loved him and as she said, I love thee true (28). Why then, if she love
thee does he feel the darkness of horrid warning gapГЁd ? Was it all just a dream?
Or reality? Firstly, the speaker as the reader may assume is a man because he is
talking about a lady he met which he called her a faery s child, (14). As he said in
the poem he was, Alone and palely loitering (2,46). That certain stanza illustrated a
man alone with no sense of direction and no sense of love, but instead, lonesome.
But they never went into much detail on what he was doing or where he came
from. Moving on, just from a few lines into the poem the speaker s tone was
coming off as melancholy. As the readers read it was clear to see that there was a
melancholy tone as the result of the speaker seemed genuinely sad and gloomy
with phrases as, O what can ail thee (1). This quote almost sounds like a cry for
help or just a cry out of last hope. He then goes on to say , I met a lady in the
meads, ( 13 ). As stated previously, this is when the poem turns from melancholy and
alone to happy and almost hopeful. Continuing on, the speaker in this poem became
infatuated with this fairy like lady. As he said, I made a garland for her
My Notre Dame Experience
Attending the University of Notre Dame means so much more for its students
than just being able to put the name of a prestigious college at the top of your
resume; it also means that you are a permanent member of the Notre Dame
community. During my first few weeks here as a freshman, I heard endless
testimonials from upperclassmen, my dorm staff, and professors of the like about
how truly special it is to be a part of the Notre Dame community and what it has
meant to them. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical at first about actually
finding myself here and where I best fit in this one of a kind community. As I near

successfully held our dorm s first retreat in two years with twenty girls in

accomplishments because I was able to strengthen my own role in the Notre Dame

Essay On Feminism. . Feminism Essay - Assess the value and importance of feminism to legal ...

  • 1. Essay On Feminism Crafting an essay on the subject of feminism can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate balance of sensitivity, critical analysis, and a nuanced understanding of a complex social movement. The difficulty lies not only in presenting the historical context of feminism but also in exploring its multifaceted dimensions in contemporary society. To begin with, one must navigate through the intricate history of feminism, delving into its various waves and acknowledging the diverse voices that have contributed to its evolution. Understanding the foundational ideologies, from suffrage movements to the more recent intersections with race, class, and gender identity, adds a layer of complexity to the task. Striking the right balance between acknowledging progress and addressing ongoing challenges requires a thorough examination of societal structures and systemic inequalities. Moreover, the essay should embrace the diversity of feminist perspectives, from liberal feminism advocating for legal and political equality to radical feminism challenging underlying power structures. Intersectionality, recognizing the interconnectedness of various social categories, demands a careful exploration to avoid oversimplification or exclusion of voices within the movement. Addressing the controversies and criticisms surrounding feminism further complicates the task. Tensions may arise when discussing issues such as the portrayal of feminism in popular media, debates within the movement, or the misconception that feminism is synonymous with misandry. Balancing the need for critique with an appreciation of the movement's positive impacts is crucial to presenting a comprehensive and fair analysis. Furthermore, the evolving nature of feminism requires a contemporary lens, with an understanding of its manifestations in the digital age and its role in shaping cultural narratives. The essay should reflect on how social media has both amplified feminist discourse and presented new challenges, such as performative activism and the risk of tokenization. In conclusion, crafting an essay on feminism demands a deep understanding of its historical roots, a nuanced exploration of contemporary manifestations, and a sensitivity to the diversity of perspectives within the movement. It is a task that necessitates thorough research, critical thinking, and an awareness of the ever-changing sociocultural landscape. While challenging, the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on feminism makes the endeavor both rewarding and necessary. • 2. The Colonialization Of North America During The Colonial... North America during the Colonial period had resources the Europeans dreamed about. For example, the mighty Mississippi River for trading and transportation, the pine trees for lumber, and the rich soil in the south for growing crops. The Europeans saw the potential of economic opportunity in North America. The Native Americans viewed North Americaas sacred and took care of their land as much as possible. When the Europeans arrived, the deer population plummeted due to the need of meat from the Europeans. The New England colonists realized that the soil in New England was unreliable because of the unfertile soil and the weather. When the Europeans came to North America, they carried numerous diseases with them. Keep in mind that the Europeans traveled by ship for months and some ships had an infestation of rats and mosquitoes. Vaccinations did not exist during the Exploration years so, explorers and the Natives had diseases of small pox, pneumonia, and yellow fever. The Native Americans were dying by the numbers because of the European diseases that they came into contact with the Europeans. Several Native American tribes had healers which the Europeans thought were Doctors. The Native Americans used nuts, berries, and certain plants to heal either a snakebite, scratch, wounds from animal attacks, and skin diseases. The Europeans thought that some of the Indian practices were witchcraft because of the heavy European Christian beliefs. The Native Americans actually helped to cure several European diseases. When the first Colonists of Virginia arrived, the population was declining because of the disease and starvation. As time went on, the immigrants from Europe began to increase due to the Civil War, crowded population, or famine. The Europeans tasted other different food sources that the Native Americans had grown such as, pumpkins, potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and squash. These crops were foreign to the Europeans. The Native Americans used food as a peace offering to the Europeans as a sign of hospitality. The trade between the Europeans and the Indians were challenging according to the Europeans. Some of the Native Americans were open to trading and exchanging ideas to the Europeans. As long as
  • 3. Zappos Customer Service 1. Zappos logistics contribute to its core competency and competitive advantage Sharing Information with Suppliers Zappos has a very special relationship with all of its suppliers. Through every interaction they work to WOW them by not only being great business partners but Zappos shares all of their inventory information with them. They developed an Extranet which allows venders to see on hand inventory, sales and pricing and margins. This insight provides Zappos with a clear competitive advantage when it comes to managing their inventory. Instead of only having internal buyers worry about when and what to purchase the venders themselves can make recommendations. If a supplier sees that one item is selling really well they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This move would have severe tradeoffs when it comes to customers and UPS. Currently Zappos is UPS number 3 next day air shipping customer. By not utilizing this service it could have a significant impact on UPS and Zappos relationship with UPS. Even though Zappos would still use UPS for the ground shipping, UPS would see a significant revenue drop since next day air shipping is more expensive. Since only 60% of customers would receive their order within 2 days the other 40% would not get that WOW factor of fast delivery. Zappos is known for its fast delivery and service and without that customer satisfaction may drop. Having 40% of customers not being having a WOW experience could significantly hurt the customer base. 3. Expanding the business I would expand Zappos by extending the supply web to current retailers such as Target or Macy s. Take Target for example. On Target.com they have an extensive shoe selection which the inventory needs to be stored in a Target distribution center. Zappos could hold this inventory and make the shipments when someone orders shoes on Target.com. This would benefit both Target and Zappos. Target would be able to reduce their shoe inventory in their distribution centers. They would also be able to offer wider selection of shoes on Target.com. Zappos would benefit by gaining a large portion of new customers who are regular Target guests. A second way I would expand Zappos would be to rely more on

Sylvia Plath had the ability to get emotional responses through her word pictures and poems. Plath was also able to create a picture from her trip to Spain, tied up ships, or even a beautiful beach setting (Magill 2225). Spring of 1959, Plath randomly wrote Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dream, a first person short story that is written in a voice that resembles terror (Hughes 1). Plath later work shows the strong dissatisfaction of her dreams. Plath dreamt of discovering cheerfulness through work, marriage, and family, which was a disappointment, caused by a miscarriage and appendectomy, her divorce, and mood swings. Plath felt defenseless to men and apocalyptic to natural forces, mainly death (Draper 2734). Plath s post obituary writings imitate the persisting importance in her work. Three Women: A Monologue for Three Voices (1968), originally published on British Radio in 1962, discusses pregnancy of three women (Draper 2735). Plath was inspired to write The Jailer which was about her husband who drugged then raped her. Plath eventually became The Lever of His Wet Dreams. The exact prodigy occurs in most of her confessional poems, mainly in Daddy (Magill 2224). Plath s tone changes throughout most of her poems (Magill 2228). In Daddy, Plath tells about herself being rebellious in her poems (Magill 2229). No writer has meant more to the current feminist movement. Kath Pollitt described this collection as a storehouse
  • 5. 1970 Civil Defense The fact that these lack any reference to fear or anger demonstrates that civil defense was working remarkably well in North Dakota in 1964. While civil defense was effective in 1964, six years passed before protests over the ABM emerged. Civil defense had more than enough time to erode during this time, but it did not. Government produced civil defense literature produced between 1964 and 1970 shows the government still had an interest in promoting the psychological purpose of civil defense. Material produced by local civil defense groups, as well as further newspaper coverage, demonstrated this was successful. The first sources to examine are the Government plans regarding civil defense in the six year period between the installation of the Minuteman Missiles and the installation of the ABM. The government plans were a result of President Kennedy s increased funding and focus on civil defense. The major program was the Home Shelter Survey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is indeed the key to the success during a short period of time. пЃ¬Indirect Communication Style The communication style in China is indirect. For Chinese people, the conversation is one way to build relationships, while in the West, it is to exchange information effectively in order to get things done as soon as possible. It is uncommon that the company gets the business done in the first time (Wang). Very few Chinese who do business directly cut to the chase; they often talk a few pleasantries with number of disparate topics at first. An example is asking a government officer Zhang, How is your son? Do his college things all go well? Even so someone may think that pleasantries are unnecessary, it is a perfect time to work on your relationship with others. Do not underestimate this part, you need to fully prepare before you start conversation with the trivial things seemingly insignificant to the other party. • 10. Communism And The Soviet Union Have you ever had a case of the hiccups that you just couldn t seem to get rid of? You tried all the tricks in the book, from holding your breath, to standing upside down, but those pestering hiccups still stuck around? In a sense, many Eastern European countries had a persistent case of the hiccups, during the early 1990s, which they were trying to shake. Except this wasn t your average case of the hiccups, these hiccups were called communism. Following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, most post Soviet satellite states began making the transition to become liberal democracies. However, the transition from communist governments to democratic governments was not necessarily a smooth one for most of the Eastern European countries. Decades of oppressive Soviet rule and deep rooted communist parties made ties to the Soviet Union especially hard to cut. Ukraine, in particular, struggled mightily to break away from the Russian communists, and that struggle is still continuing today. In the form of a corrupt government and pro Russian supporters in South and Eastern Ukraine, roadblocks were created on the Ukrainian road to democracy that they are still trying to maneuver. In analyzing the challenges posed to Ukraine in their continuing transition to a liberal democracy, it is important to start in 1990, when Ukraine officially declared independence. This declaration included principles of self determination, democracy, and the priority of Ukrainian law over Soviet law.
  • 11. Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism Comparing and Contrasting Christianity to Judaism There is a close relationship between Christianity and Judaism both from a theological and historical perspective. The similarities between these two religious platforms emanates from the notion that Christianity arose and protested from Judaism. However, it is worth noting that Christianity is not a continuation of Judaism as some people perceive. Both Jesus and most of his disciples, who pioneered the earliest Christian churches, were Jews. Particularly, Jesus family practiced and followed Jewish beliefs, and He frequently referenced the Hebrew bible. On the contrary, the disciples believed that Jesus was the one and only Messiah, which is predicted in the Jewish Bible. While the creation narrative is still mysterious to many people, most individuals are still obsessed with the attempt to discover how everything came to existence. The primary purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the basic ideologies of Christianity and Judaism (Neusner, 76). The primary similarity between Judaism and Christianity is based on the notion that they regard sin as a rebellion. They affirm that God, through his word, has made his will well known to all people. Thus, it is a sin to live contrary to this set will of God and there are consequences. More so, both religions consider God as being all powerful and supreme and though he allows people to sin, he confines the freedom. The religions consider that God allows sin as a means of
  • 12. Dense Drizzly Analysis How does Doyle create a sense of mystery in Ch3? Conan Doyle uses uses a combination of literary devices to build up tension and create a sense of mystery I chapter 3 Doyle uses negative words and descriptions of the atmosphere with the motif of darkness to bring the reader into the mysterious and miserable atmosphere of a 19th century London. The case of Mary Morstan is presented to start on a September evening . This particular choice of month brings the reader into the cold, foggy and often miserable atmosphere of September. The atmosphere is highlighted by the sentence the day had been a dreary one,and a dense drizzly fog lay low upon the great city. Doyle uses alliteration as shown in dense drizzly to illustrate and intensify the imagery of London in the 19th century. The repetition of the d sounds can bring the reader onto a journey out into the city streets because they can remind us of the rolling of wheels such as the ones of the four wheeler Watson,Holmes and Miss Morstan travelled in, and suggest the thudding of horse hooves on the pavement which a Victorian audience would be very familiar with. Doyle gives hints of mystery by using the motif of fog and darkness. The combination of the two() creates a mysterious setting where nothing is clearly visible(under the cover of darkness )The word low implies that the mystery is very close to the ground on which Holmes stands on and suggests he alone is putting himself towards an unknown destination
  • 13. Augustus Jackson And Ice Cream Augustus Jackson was born on April 16, 1808. He was a worker in the White House when he moved from his hometown in Philadelphia. In the 1820 s he was a teenager he became one of the top chefs. Then he quit and moved back to Philadelphia and he opened his own shop as a caterer and a confectioner. When working with ice cream he discovered that mixing rock salt and ice the salt will act as a neutral object that controls and lowers the temperature of the ingredients he used for his ice cream. When he made this discovery he started to sell it inin street vendors and in ice cream parlors. He found this out in 1834. Soon after the invention he was named the the father of ice cream . • 14. Forrest Gump Dynamic Character Character A person, animal, or creature that takes part in the action of a story, play, or other literary work. Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks is one of my favorite all time characters. I chose for stomp as my choice to illustrate the elements of character because he is the main character that takes part in the whole action of the story. Forrest Gump is child like, and innocent. His heart warming outlook on life is inspiring. Forest Gumps naГЇve way of thinking enables him to have no prejudice against minorities, foreigners or different religious beliefs. Protagonist This is the main character we can relate to, and is usually, but not always, the good guy. (I.e. Shrek, Indiana Jones, Cinderella, E.T ) Harry Potterby J. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good example of a static characters in Forrest Gump is his mother. Mrs. Gump is consistently the same throughout the movie. Mrs. Gump is a good hearted southern single woman. Mrs. Gump treats for Forrest like a normal child and expects others to do so as well. Mrs. Gump unwaveringly loves Forrest despite his mental and physical handicaps. Dynamic changes as a result of the story s events. Severus Snape is a good example as a dynamic character in Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling s he is always changing and a surprise of being good and/or evil. • 16. The Emergence And Development Of Russia s Radical During... Frank Masi History 127B How would you explain the emergence and development of Russia s radical intelligentsia during the post reform era? What were the major ideological positions and differences? Why were these positions believed to be the only possible paths to significant political change? The emergence of the intelligentsia can be heavily attributed to a general feeling of unease towards the future of the Russian Empire, which is examined by David Saunders in his book entitled Russia in the Age of Reaction and Reform: 1801 1881 , in which he explains how the intelligentsia first came to fruition: The intelligentsia was not solely the product of aristocratic disillusionment, for Nicholas I s domestic critics came from both privileged and non privileged parts of the community. The emergence of the post Decembrist generation of dissidents ought to be related to the phenomenon of social displacement in general . . . (148) Developing out of a sense of displacement and members of the intelligentsia felt as though they had not overcome their own divisions from the masses, and had recently lost their ties to the state (Saunders 148). The intelligentsia was socially diverse but was heavily dominated by noble, privileged members of Russian society who felt marginalized by Catherine the Great s Charter to the Nobility in 1785 and who witnessed a significant decline in political influence. Catherine was one of the first ruling members to limit the power of outside groups,

This question interested me because as an Indian studying in the US, I witnessed the disparity between the two countries acceptability towards same sex marriages. When I researched this further, I found that most people say that their religion prohibits homosexuality, which baffled me especially since India has a rich history of homosexuality? Other companies that have important tradition on the market and that have reached high levels of success focus on complex strategies that also include an increased interest on the workplace environment in which employees develop their activity. This is because in order to benefit from strong performance of their employees, these companies must ensure that they are satisfied and motivated in their work. However, it is difficult to ensure the motivation of employees. This is one of the most important reasons that

Another important parameter is alternative current (a.c.) resistance, rac. This parameter is frequency dependence. It can be shown that rac increased with the increased of frequency (Du, Burnett, (2000), (Demoulias, Labridis, Dokopoulos Gouramanis, 2007), (Desmet, Vanalme, Belmans, Van Dommelen, 2008). Some research papers used value from published graph such as by The Okonite Company and Anixter Inc. (The Okonite Company, 2001), (Anixter Inc., n.d.). However upon inspection, it was found that the graph is produced on the basis of fundamental frequency of 60 Hz and using imperial unit. Some other sources, although on 50 Hz as fundamental basis, give limited data such as (Moore, 1997), (Coates, n.d). As an alternative, formula from IEC 287 1 1 was used to calculate the rac (IEC, 1994). Skin and proximity effects are part of formula to calculate cable ampacity known as Neher McGrath (NM) method in 1957 (Blackledge, O Connell, Barrett Sung, 2012, 2012). However this method, according to the authors, could not handle a range of harmonic frequencies. In 1991, Ajit Hiranandani (AH) introduced a way to calculate temperature and ampacity of a cable using generalised finite difference model (Hiranandani, 1991). Hiranandani (1995) produced a paper which tackles the problem of size selection for cable under harmonic condition. In this paper, he introduced term such as harmonic signature (HS), with reference to

Social class is a set of concepts in the social sciences and political theory centered on models of social stratification in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical social categories(Grant, J. And he suggests that workers need to be reeducated to gain control of the mind. To determine this formula, we measured and recorded the mass of an empty clay crucible. We then poured a small amount of Epsom salt into the crucible, and then recorded the mass of the filled crucible. We then subtracted the weight of the empty crucible from the weight of the crucible with Epsom saltto determine the mass of the Epsom salt. We then lit a bunsen burner, and manipulated the airflow to allow for the optimal (hottest) flame. We then placed the bunsen burner under a clay triangle, suspended roughly 4 cm above the nozzle of the burner. Next, the crucible with the Epsom salt was placed on the triangle, and was heated by the bunsen burner for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, the bunsen burner was turned off, and the crucible was set to cool for 5 minutes. After cooling, we measured and recorded the mass of the crucible. We then placed the crucible over the bunsen burner for 5 minutes, and then set it to cool for another 5 minutes. The mass of the crucible was then measured and recorded again. The crucible was placed over the burner and the mass recorded twice, to ensure that all of the water had burned out. With our knowledge that Epsom salt was made of MgSO4 and water, we were able to isolate the amount of Magnesium sulfateand water in our substance. This was done by subtracting the mass of the crucible after burning from the mass of the crucible before burning. The difference

To date, it operates in the 28 member states of the EU, plus Lichtenstein, Norway, and Iceland. The main principle of the EU ETS is cap and trade , where cap refers to an EU wide cap for GHG emissions set by the EC that is progressively reduced each monitoring period. Companies under the cap are required to cover their emissions with EU emission allowances (EUAs), which are handed out free of charge or auctioned. EUAs, however, can be traded among facilities or countries enabling those that run short of allowances to purchase additional EUAs and so avoid penalization in the event of non submission. More specifically, installations subject to the policy have to surrender one allowance for every ton of CO2 that they emit; otherwise,

Robert Browning My Last Duchess presents a narrative about a recently widowed Duke who talks with an emissary had come to an arranged marriage with another lady from a powerful and wealthy family. In the perspective of Duke, power and wealth were integral in marriage and was determined to be married to a wealthy lady from a famous family. As the Duke orients the emissary through the palace, he stops and shows a portrait of the late Duchess who was a lovely and young girl. The Duke then begins by stating information about the picture and then to the Duchess. Duke claims that the Duchess flirted with everyone and did not appreciate the history of the family: gift of a nine hundred years old name. (33) However, when an individual continues to read the poem, it is evident that the Duke played an important role in killing the lady. Duke states that he gave commands; / Then all smiles stopped together (45 46) he used these words to define the death of his beloved Duchess. The aim of the essay is to analyze literary devices that emphasize the content of the poem, which includes rhetorical questions, exclamation mark, and em dash. Browning has used extensively rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions are questions that are posted in a literary work that does not need an answer: the strategic aims of rhetorical questions are for emphasizing an issue or creating an object. Duke indicates the aspect of misogyny through stating Will t please you sit and look at her? I said. (5) This is not a suggestion but indicates an aspect of command especially when he completes the state with I said. Reading the poem shows that the Duke never appreciated women or had a negative perspective of women, which may have contributed to the death of Duchess. The approach taken is a form of objectification of women, which may have been right at the time but the current society frown about it. In addition, the Duke wants the reader to sympathize with him and he states A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad, (22) indicating that he lacks the wording for his comments. However, it is rare that impressionism and classical form are mentioned within the same breath. For that reason, it is necessary to remind oneself that the free flowing music of the contemporary only exists by standing on the shoulders of the rigidly methodical music that came before it. Claude Debussy s First Violin Sonata exemplifies this beautifully. Though the harmonic language is that of parallelisms and unstable key centers, motivically, the piece is balanced around the same Sonata Principal that governed Debussy s forefathers, going back to Beethoven and Haydn. Claude Debussy s First Violin Sonata was completed in 1917, in the year before Debussy s passing. These three fiery movements represent some of the more aggressive music that Debussy has written, rather than the more mellow Preludes he is commonly known for. The harmonic vocabulary of Debussy would quickly make one realize that instead of gleaming the Sonata Principal out of the relationship between I and V, Debussy would do that with the relationship between sonorities that are unstable and even less stable. The piece is in Sonata form, with a complete Exposition, Development, and modified Recapitulation. However, the key areas don t reflect that the way the listener might expect. Being that the vast majority of this piece is in G, it is musical material other than key areas that one must use in order
