The Importance Of Education In Public Education
Education in schools today is very important to a student s success. From reading a particular passage,
I read about a particular student who was denied as school valedictorian for the simple fact that she
was black. To fully understand what role integration plays, or should play in public education today,
there are some key components that one must understand. The first component addresses how much it
really matters to see that schools are pretty much segregated as they were in 1968. To my intellect, it s
colossally noteworthy. In case you think approximately the two principal purposes of open instruction,
it s to advance social portability so that a child, no matter the circumstances, can, through a great
instruction, go where their abilities would take them. The reason is to reinforce our popular
government by making cleverly and open minded citizens, and related to that, to construct social
cohesion. We are a country where individuals come from all corners of the world so it s imperative
that the open schools be a place where children learn what it implies to be an American, and learn the
values of a majority rule government, one of which is that we re all social. Isolation by race and by
financial status essentially undermines both of those goals. To my mind this issue of segregation,
which gets talked about very little, is central to undermining the twin rationales for public schooling in
the first place. The second component addresses race. Parents of children argue

retirement benefits, 2) medical benefits, 3) unemployment protection, 4) handicap protection, 5)

Analysis Of Starbucks And Wal Mart Essay
Introduction
Sustainability has taken the mainstream corporate world by storm since major companies realized that
sustainability is directly linked to the viability of their long term objectives. As sustainability is proven
to be a motor of efficiency and innovation, stakeholders, investors, employees, and customers are
demanding companies to focus not only on profits but also that those profits should not come at the
expense of people or the planet. Wal Mart and Starbucks have been early adopters of the sustainability
crusade and due to their contrasting approaches towards business have developed two very distinct
sustainability models. This paper will analyze the sustainability systems implemented by Starbucks
and Wal Mart, compare their strategies, elucidate how these organizations have created different
corporate social responsibility systems, and finally determine which one of these approaches would
better support a long term sustainability model.
Analysis
Starbucks and Wal Mart are leaders in their respective industries. Their business models are different
and these differences are in part responsible for their contrasting approaches towards sustainability.
One of the best methods to understand the divergent approaches to sustainability and the triple bottom
line adopted by Starbucks and Wal Mart is by analyzing and comparing the differences in their
mission statements, values, core competencies, and corporate social responsibility systems.

The Effects Of Psoriasis On Health Related Quality Of Life
The Effect of Psoriasis on Health Related Quality of Life
Introduction
Psoriasis is a disease that greatly affects a small amount of the population. It is estimated that about 3
5% percent of the population is diagnosed with psoriasis (Yu, 2016; Pg. 1). Psoriasis is defined as a
chronic inflammatory skin disease (Lahousen et al, 2016; Pg. 78). The disease creates, in most cases,
rough dry patches or lesions on the skin surface. Multiple sights on the body can be affected ranging
from the scalp, face, and nails (Wade et al., 2016; Pg. 1). Though the disease largely results in physical
symptoms, many patient s health related quality of life (HRQoL) is affected as well; health related
quality of life is an evaluation of how a person s health affects aspects of life, mainly focusing on
social, psychological and cognitive functions (Gonzalez et al., 2016; Pg. 2). This paper will examine
multiple literatures in order to explore the connection between a patient s health related quality of life
in regards to a diagnoses of psoriasis.
Body Many studies have been done exploring how a patient s health related quality of life is affected
by having psoriasis. HRQoL has been found to be severely affected by a patient s psoriasis (Radulski,
2013; Pg. 32). Having visible lesions on the skin can lead to self confidence problems and self image
destruction. These visible patches can sometimes result in unwelcomed reactions of others (Lahousen
et al., 2016; Pg. 78). Having been described as

Consequences Of Underage Drinking In College
Underage Drinkers In the beginning of, Drinking Deaths Draw Attention to Old Campus Problem,
Mindy Sink writes, Samantha Spady, 19, a sophomore at Colorado State University in Fort Collins,
died of alcohol poisoning after an evening out with friends in which she drank the equivalent of 30 to
40 beers and shots (49). Underage drinking is a big problem in our society. Teenagers don t really
know how much it is affecting their health and how many problems it can cause. The University needs
to take action on college kids that are underage drinking. There are many ways to prevent a teenager
from drinking if he or she gets the right message. Underage drinking is a big problem in our society
today. Lot of teenagers in high school and college misuse Alcohol. The amount of alcohol these
teenagers consume is unbelievable. The national survey shows that, 71% of high school seniors has

One of the way is to tell them the consequences of their action. At University of Colorado there have
been many cases of underage drinking. The best way from preventing that from happening is to have
strict laws. Boulder and Fort Collins have a history of alcohol fueled riots and out of control parties
often combined with underage drinking despite years of the universities offering awareness programs,
participating in studies to reduce campus drinking, selective banning of alcohol on campus and more
punitive measures, like suspension and calling their parents (49). These rules like suspension and
calling parents is really good because, the teenagers who underage drink know the consequences. If a
kid is taught the right lesson from the start he or she may never misuse

Problems Of Using Big Data Help Us Understand What...
What are the problems in using big data to help us understand what customers want?
Introduction
Big data, defined as a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and availability of data
(What is Big Data? , n. d. ), has attracted considerable interest in many fields as it promises to offer a
level of analytic detail that has not been reached so far. Whilst it is often promoted as the solution to
many marketing problems, it has some significant disadvantages. Cost, personnel, problems relating to
the interpretation of the data and difficulties deciding how to apply the new knowledge to existing
products and product design are all important problems.
Situation There is a line chart above from Google Trends which ... Show more content on

Velocity. Massive data should be dealt with in time otherwise the quality of data will lose.
Probably, Big Data can be the future of marketing. However, there are some problems in using Big
Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how to address problems, the investment will
be wasted but enterprises still search around in the haystack for the needle. Therefore, I will illustrate
the problems and find out some solutions for Big Data.
Problems
Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data, explaining customers
desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the businesses are confusing what data they
should concentrate on. A recent Gartner report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan or
launch a Big Data project, though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To understand
what customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies target. The large data
volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity.
Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS, DAVIS. 2014).This
phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies. Take Google Flu Trends as an example,
they predicted that the Disease Control and Protection Center wasn t able to control the flu spread
quickly and effectively as time went on. Later, this conclusion was proved wrong. Hence, it means
that future prediction contains inconsistencies

Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead,
the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets
individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will
not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has
been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software
for businesses (Hoge, 2012).
Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic
Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to the strategic,
looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and utilizing the
human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998).
Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and
execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel part
of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and co
workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost all
stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee Empowerment,
2011).

The Italian Campaign For World War II
The Italian Campaign The Italian Campaign put Allied troops in Europe. Lesser objectives of the
invasion included a chance to capitalize on the collapse of Italian resistance; to immediately use Allied
forces; to engage German forces that could be sent to Russia and northern France; to take control of
airfields that could be used for bombing missions; and to gain control of the Mediterranean.
Casablanca Conference Planning: Believing the North African campaign would be over quickly,
American and British leaders began discussing their next move. While the British favored pushing
north through Sicily and Italy, the Americans wanted a direct, cross Channel attack. Since this
required detailed discussions, a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and their senior leadership
was scheduled. The two leaders chose Casablanca for the meeting. Casablanca Conference The Talks:
The talks consisted mostly of planning an invasion of southern Europe. It was felt that invading Italy
would take Benito Mussolini s troops out of the war and force Germany to shift forces. This would
weaken the Nazi position in France, allowing for a later invasion. Operation Husky The main forces
for the invasion of Sicily were the U.S. 7th Army under Patton and the British Eighth Army under
Montgomery. The invasion began on July 10, 1943, with combined air and sea landings involving
150,000 troops, 3,000 ships and 4,000 aircraft, all aimed at the southern shores of the island.

Essay On Relationship Between Lord Of The Flies And The...
The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once
that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by William
Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout. Furthermore, in
Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island and later finds other
people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for example, savagery
amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book, Ralph is plagued with
difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odyssey is about the journeys of a man named Odysseus who has to
make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In correlation to the eloquent dialogue of
Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be thoughtful before undergoing the task.
First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should especially
consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the skills of the
Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a trick came and it
pleased [him] well (Fitzgerald 381). Odysseus realizes that the Cyclops would defeat him in any
physical confrontation due to his well developed brute strength; as a result, he plans to trick him
because he knows that he is intellectually superior to the Cyclops. Through his review of the Cyclops

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Analysis
Food Curt This might be TMI (too much information), if so, skip this chapter. Throughout the trip, I

any rate, I had been trying to eat healthy and high fiber. While we were traveling, I was faced with a
lot of new foods. Given all my digestive issues, I was trying to keep it simple. A couple bad
experiences prompted my decision to pretty much eat nothing but ham and cheese sandwiches unless I

Buenaventura was memorable and much like Mexican cheese: really rich and salty. The other issue I
struggled with was a justifiable fear of drinking contaminated water. Non carbonated bottled water,
referred to as sin gas (without gas), was hard to find. Trusting tap water was inviting serious illness, so
Miguel consumed primarily Diet Coke and I resorted to regular Coke, which left me dehydrated a
great deal of the time. A ham and cheese sandwich became my standard lunch at airport cafes. I based
my choice on a combination of knowing it would not make me sick and the ease with which I could
order. Sanwich de jamon y queso con Coca sin hielo, por favor. (Ham and cheese sandwich with Coca
Cola, no ice.) Boy did I eat a lot of ham and cheese sandwiches washed down with bottles of warm
Coke by the time the trip was over. Fortunately, there were memorable meals which provided a
counterpoint to all the ham and cheese sandwiches. Our Thanksgiving dinner when we were not

Investigating Unknown Microorganisms From Water
Vol. 4, No. 2
INTRODUCTION
This study was done to determine unknown microorganisms that were retrieved from pond water in
Rocklin, California. If the study involves identifying microorganisms from water, various amount of
test are done to find what type of bacterias are in water. The most common bacteria in the genera
Eschericha, Pseudomonas, Acinteobacter, and Aeromons are amongst the top bacteria found in water.
As a result, one or more of these microorganism will be found in the pond water collected. It is
important to specify one of these bacteria in the water sample as it is potentially harmful. Some strains
of Eschericha Coli are known to cause serve gastrointestinal infection, dysentry and even death in
susceptible individuals (Wilson, 2015). Most importantly, it is important to find these species that can
cause danger to humans. So, they can be treated accordantly with the right antibiotics if they presented
any of the side effects.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Culturing/Streak: Trypticase soy agar (TSA) plate: Since the unknown sample contains Gram ( ), it
was appropriate to use this type of agar. Using a sterilized loop a sample was streaked on the TSA.
The purpose of this producer is to allow growth of the unknown sample. Taking extra to prevent

Justice in Hamlet
In the revenge play of Hamlet, the idea of poetic justice can be seen throughout the play various times.
Shakespeare allows the reader to understand the mistakes of each character by killing them off in a
justly manner. While seeking revenge, the main characters of the play earn their poetic ending,
permitting Shakespeare to restore the karmic balance of the play. Claudius, Leartes, Polonius, are all
killed poetically as a direct result of their actions, while Ophelia is used to reiterate the poetic justices
in the other character because of the fact that she is not killed poetically.
Claudius poisoned King Hamlet in order to become King himself. While he feels the guilt of killing

wants to know what is Laertes doing and has sent Reynaldo to do his spying for him. We can see how
these actions and character traits will continue throughout the play and will lead to his poetic death.
Even though his death is an accident, he gets what he deserves because he is where he shouldn t be:
the King and Queen s chambers. Hamlet thinks he is Claudius and that is why he kills him. When
Hamlet finds out that it is, in fact, Polonius he says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell. I
took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune. Thou find st to be too busy is some danger. (A.III.sc.iv.ln 32

s death to show the audience how snooping and meddling into other people s business is morally
wrong and you will be punished for it accordingly.

What makes a person who they are is a difficult dilemma. Mark Twain s novel, Pudd nhead Wilson
and Those Extraordinary Twins is a critical analysis of how nature and nurture can cultivate emotions
and free will, which in turn affects the life of individuals. Twain s faltering sense of direction began
about slavery, moral decay, and deceptive realities (Kaplan 314). The debate of `nature versus nurture

Caucasians in the southern states became the superior race and the Negroes became the inferior race,
thus the labels of Master and slave evolved. Virtually all Anthropologists, Scientists, Sociologist,
Psychologists, and scientists agree that there is no credible evidence that supports that one race is
culturally or psychologically different from any other, or that one race is superior to another. Yet
Twain, In Pudd nhead Wilson creates the character Roxy as both races, one physically and one
mentally. Though her features make her appear to white, Her complexion was very fair, with rosy
glow of vigorous health in her cheeks, her face was full of character and expression, her eyes were

A majority consensus views hackers as evil people who do nothing by play around in computers all
day to improve their intrusion techniques in order to steal money, information, and cripple computer
systems for various reasons. Based on the second paragraph of this paper, the consensus is somewhat
flawed. The confusion stems from the definition of hacker and how they have been perceived.
Hacking was originally defined as the production of furniture with the use of an axe, but MIT
(Massachusetts Institute of Technology the origination of the replacement term hacker) define it as
students who pulled pranks with the use of a computer. In 1963, a group of MIT students tied up
phone lines from both the MIT and Harvard Campuses, turning lines inactive and using available lines
to make long distance phone calls that carried hefty phone charges. This was the first instance of the
term being applied to the young, and rising profession of hacking. It has since then been in permanent
use due to the evolutional path of hacking the aspect that was widely publicized.
In 1983, the 414s, a group of 6 computer hackers, broke into Sloan Kettering Cancer Center computer

So you don t have time to attend a Time Management seminar, then here are four ideas to help you
create a more productive day. First, the key to such a day is to create more discretionary time and use
it more wisely. Second, remember you are not paid for work, you are paid for results. Third, you need
to control your day instead of it controlling you. The number one idea is to begin by analyzing your
typical day. To do this you need to do a simple Time Log. This is done by taking an 8.5 x 11 sheet of
paper and numbering each line in fifteen minute increments starting with the time you arrive at work.
(Note; do not start when you are supposed to be there but when you actually arrive.) Then, throughout
the day, record your activities. You need to do this for two weeks. Then, look for time wasters and
ways to create more discretionary time.
There are two kinds of time; discretionary meaning you have a choice of how to spend it, and non

Evolution And Innovation And The Development Of Aerospace...
Introduction Evolution and innovation are two of the most important factors in the development of
aerospace design. When faced with a design problem the decision has to be made whether to develop
the current idea, or whether to explore a new idea. The decision chosen will usually be a mixture of
both. Brief History of Optimisation Optimisation is an extremely old method and was used as far back
as when Newton used it to calculate maximum and minimum values for functions. One of the first
times that optimisation methods were used within aerospace was by Goddard (1919), not long after
the First World War. He used this method to maximize the height of rocket trajectories, where the
rockets performance was approximated over discrete intervals and the needed nozzle velocity was
calculated by using a trial and error approach. Although a great discovery, optimisation didn t really
exceed until the invention of computers in the late 1950 s and late 1960 s [1]. Introduction Chapter:
This chapter should set the scene. o It should define the scope of your literature review and identify
why it is relevant and timely. o What is the benefit of this research topic to the society in the next three
to five years and in the next seven to ten years? o Then you should introduce your chapters briefly
describing what you have written in those chapters Optimisation Optimisation methods are defined by
the type of problem that they can begin to solve. The categories of the problems that

Case Study Of Avon s Global Marketing
Avon faces challenges in expanding and sustaining its global manufacturing and supply chain because
of the need to develop customized products for its different geographical markets. Establishing
presence in new markets with different cultural orientations is also not easy and there is need for
different marketing strategies. Typical of global marketing, Avon has to be aware of the different rules
and regulations imposed by all its different markets prior to doing business (Daniels, Radebaugh and
Sullivan, 2010).
The major concern when evaluating new suppliers for Avon would be their reliability in ensuring that
materials are provided in time, in the right quantity and cost, and expected quality, as well as their
knowledge of the market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Word of mouth from previous customers helps to introduce the products to others friends, families, or
social groups. Also, selling in global markets with less competition has promoted Avon s competitive
advantage. Global branding enables Avon to gain loyal customers that are proud to associate with the
company s international brand. Customizing products, prices and language to meet local needs enables
customers to consider their needs fulfilled, further promoting Avon s brand loyalty. Use of celebrities
such as Salma Hayek in marketing enables Avon to have more customers that like to emulate the
celebrity. Avon s production, market penetration and distribution strategy enables it to sell to a wider
market while having minimized costs of production, which is good for profits. A global recession has
no significant negative impact on Avon especially if the company keeps using the Avon ladies
distribution system. The economic recession of 2008 saw Avon s independent sellers increase in
number (Avon Case Study). The advantage of independent sellers is that they can penetrate to remote
locations regardless of problems such as failing infrastructure. Furthermore, transitional economies in
which Avon mainly operates have different economic policies that support industrial growth despite

Apple Inc. Essay
Apple Inc.
I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has grown over the
past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products from Apple such as Apple TV
and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the new direction they have chosen to take with their
marketing and what it has helped them accomplish over the past couple of years.
Apple Inc. has come a long way from what it used to be. The computer market has always been a PC
based system being mainly pushed by the Microsoft software platform. Apple Computers has been
struggling to make it in the computer market for a long time, going up against their competitor
Microsoft who had a monopoly on the market. Microsoft had such ... Show more content on

This was just the start for Apple s new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody had
to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help promote
their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple s new marketing plan, going for the
entertainment and media side of the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs on
itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and Apple was
on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV, two
revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability to
wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or website on
the internet through their TV. This is the new are of wave of media technology allowing people to
watch whatever they want whenever they want without any regular scheduled programming. This is
also a major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly how many views each
show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item. Everybody wanted one!

Online Teen Forum Review Essay
The Book Reader forums is a place designed for users of all ages to discuss books. Within the forums
of this website there is one forum described as being intended for children and young adult books.
This forum seems to receive a limited amount of traffic. A search using the forum s search feature
revealed that since the beginning of the year there have been 33 posts. While some of these posts were
written by adults, I also a detected several that appeared to have been written by teens. The forum does
not require members to post their age; however, in older posts I noted that several teens mentioned
their age. Posters are only able to be identified by as much information as they are willing to share, so
it is difficult to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, individuals on this forum often reply to original threads started years ago. Unlike some forums,
this is actually encouraged by the staff members, but it makes following a thread difficult at times.
Compared to Traditional Reviews The reviews I read on the forum were less concerned with a
succinct, comprehensive overview of the book like one would expect in a professional review on a site
like Kirkus. Rather, they focused on an emotional attachment to the book as a reason to review or
recommend it to others. For example, in a discussion on Charlotte s Web, one individual explains that
she hated the book because she was forced to read it several times in elementary school (evie, 2004).
Although the opinions on the forum were hardly reviews in the professional sense of the word, I was
surprised that they so frequently included some sort of visceral reaction to the book. Often there was
little explanation concerning the particulars of the story and the author chose to focus instead on the
fact that a main character made them angry or that the ending was unexpected or happy. It is difficult
to determine which review has the greater authority. If an individual were simply trying to discern
whether the plot would be interesting, then certainly a professional review would be more
authoritative. However, the conversational reviews I read between friends reminded me of the power
of a personal opinion. While

The Finnish War And The Soviet Union Essay
The Russo Finnish War, or Winter War, began on 30 November 1939 when the Soviet Union invaded
Finland. The objectives of the Red Army were simply, conquer and subjugate all of Finland and re
establish the borders that existed prior to the First World War. The Soviet Union held the advantage in
manpower, equipment, and resources, but the Finnish Army inflicted casualties on the Red Army that
far exceeded their own. Not a single Red Army unit reached its initial objectives and Stalin was forced
to come to the negotiation table and make a peace that left Finland as a sovereign state. The Finnish
military was successful because the Red Army lacked competent leadership, didn t have the proper
equipment to fight in subzero temperatures, and the Finnish Army was able to adapt to a changing
environment and use their smaller numbers to their advantage. The gaping holes in Soviet military
capabilities helped fuel Hitler s willingness to initiate Operation Barbarossa. Additionally, by invading
Finland the Soviet Union turned a disinterested and essentially neutral into an enemy that had the
capabilities to strike into the heart of Russia. The winter of 1939 1940 was abnormally cold, the
temperature rose above freezing only ten times during the entire campaign. Many Russian soldiers
lacked basic winter gear and suffered astonishingly high levels of frostbite, some 132,213 of the
900,000 soldiers involved. While some soldiers were issued felt boots or valenki, the vast majority

American Society During The 1940 S
American society in the 1940 s was racially segregated. Public facilities including buses, theaters, and
railroad stations excluded black patrons. Among many other parts of American life, baseball, like most
professional sports, was equally discriminatory against African Americans. The major league teams
only signed white players and denied black men the opportunity to play professionally. Black players
were restricted to their own Negro Leagues. Until one day in 1946, when Branch Rickey, an
innovative Major League Baseball (MLB) executive, chose a black man named Jackie Robinson to
become the first African American man to play professional baseball. Jackie broke the color barrier in
the world of sports and became the most historically significant baseball player ever.
The movie 42, released on April 12, 2013, depicts the life of Jackie Robinson and his endurance of
racial discrimination. It is written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Thomas Tull. The
movie is distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures and is 128 minutes long. The main stars in the movie
were Chadwick Boseman, who played Jackie Robinson, and Harrison Ford, who played the Brooklyn
Dodgers executive, Branch Rickey. Other supporting roles included Nicole Beharie as Jackie s wife,
Rachel, and Andre Holland as Wendell Smith, a reporter and Jackie s supporter. Other actors include
Christopher Meloni, Lucas Black, Ryan Merriman, Hamish Linklater, and Alan Tudyk. The movie has

Pros And Cons Of Foreign Direct Investment In Russia
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is when an individual or a company in one nation invests in business
entities or practices within another nation. Across different nations and sectors, there are multiple
restrictions and requirements as to how FDI can be done. Russia is a nation that is fairly open to FDI.
They want to encourage foreign companies to produce their goods in Russia, so in many industries
FDI restrictions are very reasonable. There are a few exceptions to this point. One such exception is
that Russia has significant requirements for FDI in the Strategic sectors of its economy. These
strategic sectors specifically target sectors that influence national defense, as required in the Strategic

I couldn t believe what I saw, and for a moment I thought it might be one of Abellona Abbott s tricks.
Then, the driver shut off the engine and powered down the headlights before emerging out the cab

as my mind raced to figure out how this could be, all while a whirlwind of feelings begun spinning
through me like a hurricane. When I could breathe again, I found that my breaths were weak and
shallow, almost hyperventilating, and causing me to feel dizzy. My knees buckled slightly, and for a

Counseling The Hood Case Study
Counseling the Hoods with Structural Family Therapy
The Hood family consists of Ben, Elena, and their children, Paul (16 years old) and Wendy (14 years
old), that lives in New Canaan, Connecticut. Paul attends a prep school in another city while Wendy
attends school in New Canaan. The family lacks structure and communication. Neither parents know
what the children are up to, as shown when Wendy asked for money to pay for her band uniform (Lee,
Ice Storm ). Each member of the family is struggling to find happiness. This is demonstrated when
Paul does not want to come on the day before Thanksgiving to spent time with his family, he rather

teenager that is curious about her sexuality. She has been playing sex games with her classmates,
especially Mickey Carver. She also steals from the local pharmacy. They both know that their parents
are having problems with their marriage (Lee, Ice Storm ).
I would use structural family therapy to counsel the Hood family. This therapeutic approach is best for
the Hood family because it will organize the ways in which each family member react with one
another. The Hoods boundaries are enmeshed. Mr. Hood is very disengaged with Mrs. Hood, their
relationship is estranged. Mrs. Hood is dependent on Mr. Hood for happiness, however Mr. Hood is no
longer happy thus he is seeking also. They need to develop mutual support for one another.
Mr. Hood gives the children more attention than his wife, which cause the power of the family
hierarchy to be dysfunction. To correct the family s dysfunction, the power has to be given back to the
parents. They must develop boundaries that separates them from the children. They must also improve
their communication skills with one

The First Airborne Jamming Test
These developments in radar prompted experiments to find whether or not ITS transmission could be
denied or defeated. The first airborne jamming test took place in London and involved a continuous
wave transmitter. Following this test, anti jamming systems were attached to the direction finding
systems which then evolved into the Chain Home radar system along the eastern coast of the U.K.
These anti jamming systems were the first examples of electronic counter counter measures which is
now a sub category of electronic warfare called electronic protection. (price 9 10). The United States
conducted similar experiments and prior to entering the Second World War, the United States Navy
possessed radar, high frequency direction finding systems and anti jamming devices.
Throughout the year of 1940, the Germans and the British conducted a series of back and forth
electronic attacks and counterattacks AFFECTING the German s ability to bomb Britain during the
night with low visibility. The German s employed various radio technologies to acquire night bombing
capabilities where they could intersect two transmitted radio waves that followed the correct flight
path in order to ensure the German pilots could maintain a continuous course. The German s even
used the British s own Chain Home defense as reference points during this evolution. The UK would
continually modify their systems and employ electronic warfare tactics to jam the German s beams.

Stump Grinding
A Few Things To Know About Stump Grinding If you ve worked hard the last few weekends
chopping down a tree in your yard, you now have to decide what to do about the stump. Digging a
stump out of the ground is difficult work, if it is even possible. You could pull it out with a truck, but
then you have to dispose of the big stump. The most efficient and easy way to get rid of a tree stump
in your yard is to grind it. Here is some more information. Deciding On DIY Or Professional Removal
If you only have one stump to grind, you might as well hire a tree service professional and save
yourself the trouble of renting a grinder and doing the work yourself. Renting a grinder for the day
costs about the same as having a professional remove one tree. If you re trying to save money, then
you ll want to get a quote. The price depends on the size of the tree, its location, and the type of tree
since trees have wood of varying hardness. The only time it might make sense to rent a grinder is if

The best scenario is to have the main roots ground away several inches below the soil. This helps keep
the tree from sending up shoots and growing back. It also makes room for new tree roots to grow if

one, you may be limited to a small model that isn t capable of grinding deep into the roots. Some
commercial stump grinders fit on tractors or trucks and can chew up stumps all the way down to the
main roots a few feet into the ground. Consider what you plan to do with the space once the tree is
gone when determining how to handle the roots. If you decide on shallow grinding, then you ll want to
watch the space and cut back shoots when they appear so a new tree doesn t start growing where you

Hellenistic Monks
A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and
chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This
brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three characteristics
of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life.
Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours of the
day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the Rosary,
Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and Offices as
spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the Office, the
observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the heart of the
Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of the Church
that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benedict said, Keep death daily before your eyes. St. Benedict s saying refers to more than physical
death, but also death to self. A monk is called to this daily, such as leaving family, friends, and home.

observe the many rules of Saint Benedict s outline for monastic life, dependability to prayer, vigil, and
fasting. The beauty of the Church s liturgical tradition communicates the peace of Christ to the rest of
world.
The Rule of Saint Benedict is a book of precepts written by Benedict of Nursia for monks living under
an abbot. It is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: ora et labora, which means
pray and work. This rule has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. The model for the

Reading For The Emotional Level
1.) Introduction Such readers respond first of all, and sometimes only, to their reading on an emotional
level; the work affects them, producing joy or revulsion, laughter or tears, anxiety or elation (Page
xxvii). I use to not analyze works because I would think that this factor would alleviate the experience
of reading books. I still think that analyzing books as a piece of work instead of reading for the
emotional level somewhat takes the joy out of the experience. However, it only brings a different type
of joy to reading. If not on the emotional level, readers can enjoy tying the similarities of one story to
another. Piecing the different parts of characters and plots that resemble another story gives more

Although, I never summed that process up as in this chapter. Readers gain experience and knowledge
throughout their life, then they put this knowledge to use when they encounter a story. Looking for
matching themes and archetypes helps give a story depth. However, not everyone has the same
experiences, that s what making a connection to a book is so unique. This example is from a small
story that can equate to one of the Knight in Shining Amour tales. When I read a poem or story, I can
mostly relate it other stories such as the example shown. This process helps to show a greater
resonance and meaning to the story and gives the story another tale to be compared and contrasted
against. Although I did notice some similarities in literature, I never made it a habit of looking for
them. This chapter has explained the process and helped me to notice how those similarities help

Satyagraha, By Mahatma Gandhi
In 1869, one of the most prominent and influential men to ever live was born. Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi was born in Gujarat, India. Known for leading India to its eventual freedom and inspiring
movements across the world, Gandhi became India s Father of the Nation . His non violent and non
cooperative civil disobedience provided a sense of truth and firmness. Better known as Satyagraha, as
coined by Gandhi, became one of the best methods to fight injustices. Around the world, Satyagraha
has proven to work amongst others besides the Indians. In 1905, thousands of workers protested in
Russia to overthrow the Tsar and for better working conditions for the peasant working class. Not only
did it work in the 20th century, but Satyagraha has worked in the 21st century. In 2005, a breakdown
occupying the Faroe Islands commenced leaving all workers to protest in hopes for raises throughout
their civil disobedience acts. During the 1980s, the US government used the Marshall Islands as a
nuclear test site and natives used non violent protests in hopes to end the lease and be able to return
back to their homes. While Satyagraha was a concept developed in 1906, the method is constantly
used and was used even before Gandhi.
Around the same time Gandhi was born, Satyagraha was imminent throughout Russia. During the late
19th century, Russia s autocracy was under attack. In 1894, Nicolas II replaced Alexander III and
attempted to make several liberal reforms, but the reforms failed.

  • 4. Analysis Of Starbucks And Wal Mart Essay Introduction Sustainability has taken the mainstream corporate world by storm since major companies realized that sustainability is directly linked to the viability of their long term objectives. As sustainability is proven to be a motor of efficiency and innovation, stakeholders, investors, employees, and customers are demanding companies to focus not only on profits but also that those profits should not come at the expense of people or the planet. Wal Mart and Starbucks have been early adopters of the sustainability crusade and due to their contrasting approaches towards business have developed two very distinct sustainability models. This paper will analyze the sustainability systems implemented by Starbucks and Wal Mart, compare their strategies, elucidate how these organizations have created different corporate social responsibility systems, and finally determine which one of these approaches would better support a long term sustainability model. Analysis Starbucks and Wal Mart are leaders in their respective industries. Their business models are different and these differences are in part responsible for their contrasting approaches towards sustainability. One of the best methods to understand the divergent approaches to sustainability and the triple bottom line adopted by Starbucks and Wal Mart is by analyzing and comparing the differences in their mission statements, values, core competencies, and corporate social responsibility systems. Introduction Big data, defined as a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and availability of data (What is Big Data? , n. d. ), has attracted considerable interest in many fields as it promises to offer a level of analytic detail that has not been reached so far. Whilst it is often promoted as the solution to many marketing problems, it has some significant disadvantages. Massive data should be dealt with in time otherwise the quality of data will lose. Probably, Big Data can be the future of marketing. However, there are some problems in using Big Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how to address problems, the investment will be wasted but enterprises still search around in the haystack for the needle. Therefore, I will illustrate the problems and find out some solutions for Big Data. Problems Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data, explaining customers desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the businesses are confusing what data they should concentrate on. A recent Gartner report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan or launch a Big Data project, though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To understand what customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies target. The large data volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity. Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS, DAVIS. 2014).This phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies. Take Google Flu Trends as an example, they predicted that the Disease Control and Protection Center wasn t able to control the flu spread quickly and effectively as time went on. • 8. Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software for businesses (Hoge, 2012). Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to the strategic, looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and utilizing the human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998). Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel part of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and co workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost all stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee Empowerment, 2011). Lesser objectives of the invasion included a chance to capitalize on the collapse of Italian resistance; to immediately use Allied forces; to engage German forces that could be sent to Russia and northern France; to take control of airfields that could be used for bombing missions; and to gain control of the Mediterranean. Casablanca Conference Planning: Believing the North African campaign would be over quickly, American and British leaders began discussing their next move. While the British favored pushing north through Sicily and Italy, the Americans wanted a direct, cross Channel attack. Since this required detailed discussions, a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and their senior leadership was scheduled. The two leaders chose Casablanca for the meeting. Casablanca Conference The Talks: The talks consisted mostly of planning an invasion of southern Europe. It was felt that invading Italy would take Benito Mussolini s troops out of the war and force Germany to shift forces. This would weaken the Nazi position in France, allowing for a later invasion. Operation Husky The main forces for the invasion of Sicily were the U.S. 7th Army under Patton and the British Eighth Army under Montgomery. The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout. Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island and later finds other people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for example, savagery amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book, Ralph is plagued with difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odyssey is about the journeys of a man named Odysseus who has to make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In correlation to the eloquent dialogue of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be thoughtful before undergoing the task. First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should especially consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the skills of the Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a trick came and it pleased [him] well (Fitzgerald 381). First, the key to such a day is to create more discretionary time and use it more wisely. Second, remember you are not paid for work, you are paid for results. Third, you need to control your day instead of it controlling you. The number one idea is to begin by analyzing your typical day. To do this you need to do a simple Time Log. This is done by taking an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and numbering each line in fifteen minute increments starting with the time you arrive at work. (Note; do not start when you are supposed to be there but when you actually arrive.) Then, throughout the day, record your activities. You need to do this for two weeks. Then, look for time wasters and ways to create more discretionary time. When faced with a design problem the decision has to be made whether to develop the current idea, or whether to explore a new idea. The decision chosen will usually be a mixture of both. Brief History of Optimisation Optimisation is an extremely old method and was used as far back as when Newton used it to calculate maximum and minimum values for functions. One of the first times that optimisation methods were used within aerospace was by Goddard (1919), not long after the First World War. He used this method to maximize the height of rocket trajectories, where the rockets performance was approximated over discrete intervals and the needed nozzle velocity was calculated by using a trial and error approach. Although a great discovery, optimisation didn t really exceed until the invention of computers in the late 1950 s and late 1960 s [1]. All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody had to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help promote their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple s new marketing plan, going for the entertainment and media side of the market. Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs on itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and Apple was on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV, two revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know it. Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability to wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or website on the internet through their TV. Also, individuals on this forum often reply to original threads started years ago. Unlike some forums, this is actually encouraged by the staff members, but it makes following a thread difficult at times. Compared to Traditional Reviews The reviews I read on the forum were less concerned with a succinct, comprehensive overview of the book like one would expect in a professional review on a site like Kirkus. Rather, they focused on an emotional attachment to the book as a reason to review or recommend it to others. For example, in a discussion on Charlotte s Web, one individual explains that she hated the book because she was forced to read it several times in elementary school (evie, 2004). Although the opinions on the forum were hardly reviews in the professional sense of the word, I was surprised that they so frequently included some sort of visceral reaction to the book. Often there was little explanation concerning the particulars of the story and the author chose to focus instead on the fact that a main character made them angry or that the ending was unexpected or happy. It is difficult to determine which review has the greater authority. If an individual were simply trying to discern whether the plot would be interesting, then certainly a professional review would be more authoritative. However, the conversational reviews I read between friends reminded me of the power of a personal opinion. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Finnish War And The Soviet Union Essay The Russo Finnish War, or Winter War, began on 30 November 1939 when the Soviet Union invaded Finland. The objectives of the Red Army were simply, conquer and subjugate all of Finland and re establish the borders that existed prior to the First World War. The Soviet Union held the advantage in manpower, equipment, and resources, but the Finnish Army inflicted casualties on the Red Army that far exceeded their own. Not a single Red Army unit reached its initial objectives and Stalin was forced to come to the negotiation table and make a peace that left Finland as a sovereign state. The Finnish military was successful because the Red Army lacked competent leadership, didn t have the proper equipment to fight in subzero temperatures, and the Finnish Army was able to adapt to a changing environment and use their smaller numbers to their advantage. The gaping holes in Soviet military capabilities helped fuel Hitler s willingness to initiate Operation Barbarossa. Additionally, by invading Finland the Soviet Union turned a disinterested and essentially neutral into an enemy that had the capabilities to strike into the heart of Russia. The winter of 1939 1940 was abnormally cold, the temperature rose above freezing only ten times during the entire campaign. Many Russian soldiers lacked basic winter gear and suffered astonishingly high levels of frostbite, some 132,213 of the 900,000 soldiers involved. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and Offices as spiritual nourishment. His non violent and non cooperative civil disobedience provided a sense of truth and firmness. Better known as Satyagraha, as coined by Gandhi, became one of the best methods to fight injustices. Around the world, Satyagraha has proven to work amongst others besides the Indians. In 1905, thousands of workers protested in Russia to overthrow the Tsar and for better working conditions for the peasant working class. Not only did it work in the 20th century, but Satyagraha has worked in the 21st century. In 2005, a breakdown occupying the Faroe Islands commenced leaving all workers to protest in hopes for raises throughout their civil disobedience acts. During the 1980s, the US government used the Marshall Islands as a nuclear test site and natives used non violent protests in hopes to end the lease and be able to return back to their homes. While Satyagraha was a concept developed in 1906, the method is constantly used and was used even before Gandhi. Around the same time Gandhi was born, Satyagraha was imminent throughout Russia.
