Rikers Island Argumentative Essay
It s notorious, it s a place of pain and sorrow. This place is called Rikers Island. Rikers is a large penal
complex that imprisons nonviolent and violent criminals. However, it a jail that discriminates against
minorities.Leaving this dangerous place open the violence will only get worse and more inmates will
try to kill themselves like Kalief Browder. That s why Rikers should be shut down for good.
Minorities are mainly targeted at this facility. For example in Text 2, it says, But blacks and latinos are
overrepresented in the city s jail primarily because they commit a disproportionate amount of the city
s crime. If minorities weren t being discriminated against then they wouldn t make up majority of the
jail population The discrimination

Discrimination Against The Engineering Field
There is lots of discrimination against in the engineering field. Through my research and judging from
the articles that I found, it shows that gender stereotypes is still prevalent in the engineering field.
There s still discrimination against women in the classrooms to the process of employment and carries
off to the engineering industry. The discrimination keeps women from wanting to try and be in the
STEM field, thinking of the that these fields are only for men. Some areas of science do attract more
women than men, such as biology and social and behavioral sciences. But computer science, physics
and engineering are overwhelmingly male. At first, I didn t know what was a suitable of topic for my

Have you ever encounter a time when you want to do something and they wouldn t let you because of
gender, they say that you re a girl , that s the reason why you shouldn t do it. I know there are times
that it is a man job but if you think about it people use the phrase you re a girl as an excuse towards a
female of not doing something like when was the day You re a girl became an insult? Yes. I m a girl
and I am proud that I am one. As a women, we experience discrimination in our everyday life and that
life consist of our job. The fact that the discrimination is common these days just makes it harder for
women to pursue a career she wants.
The STEM fields science, technology, engineering and mathematics have always had a problem with
women. Men tend to dominate in the engineering field and for women, the number is not growing. Is
it because of the fact that there is a lack of role model in the field or the lack of motivation to be in the
engineering field? Judging from the statistic, there are about 20% of women in the engineering
industry and that number is not growing, because women have seen no employment growth in STEM
jobs since 2000. From the studies that were conducted from the articles that i found, here were a very
surprising outcome. though some of the outcome were expected.
From an article titled as Why Engineering, Science Gender Gap Persists , it pointed out how gender

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Soil Consolidation
Consolidation is any process which involves decrease in water content of a saturated soil without
replacement of water by air. Reduction in volume takes place by expulsion of water under long term
static loads. It occurs when stress is applied to a soil that causes the soil particles to pack together
more tightly, therefore reducing its bulk volume. When this occurs in a soil that is saturated with
water, water will be squeezed out of the soil. [wiki]
There are 3 stages in consolidation,
1. Initial consolidation
2. Primary consolidation
3. Secondary consolidation
These stages based on soil settlement caused by 3 load categories Elastic settlement : caused by elastic
deformation
Primary consolidation settlement : result of a volume change ... Show more content on

II. An effective level of vacuum cannot be maintain easily
III. Lateral seepages are reduced towards the vacuum area
IV. Keeping the drainage system effective under the membrane that expels water and air becomes
difficult throughout the whole pumping duration
2. Vertical Drains
To reduce the time for consolidation, vertical drains are used together with preloading either by
conventional preloading or by vacuum preloading. Vertical drains are artificially created drainage
paths which are inserted into the soft clay subsoil. Thus, the pore water squeezed out during
consolidation of the clay due to the hydraulic gradients created by the preloading, can flow faster in
the horizontal direction towards the vertical drains. In the following table it shows different types of
vertical drains along with their installation methods.
Drain type Installation method Drain diameter (m) Typical spacing (m) Maximum length (m)
Sand drain Driven or vibratory closed end mandrel (displacement type) 0.15 0.6 1 5 =60

The Green Island Environmental Report
GREEN ISLAND ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT
Overview:
The Green Island is situated approximately 27km offshore Cairns Queensland. It stands to be 12
hectares in size being only the coral cay with a rainforest. The island ranges from tropical to wet
season within the months of January to March bringing an average annual rainfall of about 2m. It is
formed by the wave action pushing rubble debris onto leeward side (calm side) of a reef flat and with
perfect conditions these debris and rubbles grow into a small island.
Tourism rationales for development on Green Island can benefit in employment opportunities, socio
economic development of areas which would help foster economic activities around the island.
Environmental best practice refers to the applications used in the most appropriate and beneficial way
in the combination of environmental control measures and strategies. Green Island follows the
regulations in relation to environmental best practice however the need for such applications to be
developed is increasing as carbon emissions in the world are increasing which is why the objective of
not leaving behind a carbon footprint needs to be achieved by Green Island.
The small Danish island of Samsoe is another project similar to Green Island where CO2 neutrality is
the goal to be achieved, however, at the moment car emissions are not as effective in terms of best
practices therefore in order to counter such a pollution problem electric cars have been recommended.

Benefits Of A Company s Limited Liability Corporation (...
PASS.com will a member run Limited Liability Corporation (LLC). By using this business structure
our founding members are able to blend the advantages of a partnership with the advantages of a
corporation. This form of business offers our founding members many of the benefits of a sole
proprietorship/partnership while reducing the exposure to unlimited liability.
Moreover, LLC s offer many of the advantages of both the closely held forms of business (Sole
Proprietorship, Partnerships, and limited partnerships) and those of the corporate forms of business.
Most notable; reduced personal liability, relative simplicity to form and reduced regulatory operation
burden to the owners. Following are the key reasons that our founding members have chosen to
incorporate as an LLC:
 Liability: The name of this form of business accurately describes one of its greatest advantages:
limited liability. LLC s share the same limits of liability afforded to corporations. Our owners are
limited in personal liability since the company and the owners are separate legal entities: just as in a
corporation. However, each of our founding members is willing and able to assume personal liability
for financial funding. Waiving the veil of financial liability protection is allowed under state LLC rules
(Small Business Chron.com, 2015)
Income taxes: With an LLC our members have the most flexibility for taxation; our company can

Statute Of Limitations In Medical Malpractice Case
You feel that the treating doctor has committed medical negligence and you are suffering from it.
Instead of getting better, your health has deteriorated which has cost financial and emotional losses.
When you consult a Personal Injury Lawyer Brampton who has the necessary experience successfully
dealing with cases of medical negligence, it is confirmed that you can file your claim case.
A major question that arises is whether your medical malpractice case compliant with the
requirements of the Statute of Limitations or not?
The Statute of Limitations in a medical malpractice case is complex as many factors are involved in
this. The standard time limit gives you a certain number of years within which you can file your
claims suit. This time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the factors that may influence the Statute of Limitations rule is the discovery rule wherein it is
stated to be the moment when you discovered the malpractice.
The next question that you should ask the Personal Injury Lawyer Brampton after the confirmation is
regarding the worth of your case and would it be worth pursuing it. To answer this query, many factors
are needed to be taken into consideration. The main factor that needs to be considered is the time
factor which is a very difficult query to be answered. The answer to this again depends upon many
variables and the safest answer is that it may take several years.
According to Personal Injury Lawyer Brampton, there are some factors that greatly dictate and
influence the time factor in the medical malpractice cases. The biggest factor is that there is no
established timetable on which the medical malpractice case can proceed. As a general rule, the
slowness of the progress of your medical malpractice case is in direct proportion to its complexity and
potential value.
The factors that may make your case more complicated are

Thomas More Dystopia
Utopia which written by Thomas More is a story that can only be applied as an imagination. More
uses more than a half space of the book for discussing how a perfect world looks like because he
wants to provide all the details of a prefect kingdom for readers to create their imagination. He also
tries to have readers to ponder the differences between the imaginal world: Utopia, and the real world.
This is a reflection of More s value. He sees the weakness of the society, and also predicts the future
of it. Therefore he writes Utopia for readers to imagine a safety society, an image of the weakness of a
society, and an image of self deprecating about the conflicts between the real world and the imaginal
society.
The scene of completely peaceful and safety can only be appeared in this story. The narrator, Raphael,
brings out the dream place: Utopia, by saying there is plenty of everything, and no reason to fear that
anyone will claim more than he needs (More 50). The people who live in Utopia and this place seems
to be the perfect match to each other. However, due to the personal rapacity, there is never enough for
human. Therefore, the peace from Utopia can only be an imagination of More. ... Show more content

to American history and politics in the seconf half of the twentieth century in relation to two of his

Harper s Bazar As A Fashion Illustration Essay
My chosen illustration for this image analysis is a fashion illustration from the 20th century called La
Cage Improvisée. It was used as the cover for the July 1922 magazine publication of Harper s Bazar.
The cover illustration was accompanied by the title, the year of the publication, and the price of the
magazine. Bazar assembles photographers, designers, artists and writers to deliver perspectives into
the world of fashion and popular culture on a monthly basis (Georgievska 1). At the beginning of the
20th century Harper s Bazar published a variety of different columns, from instructional columns on
how to tie a bow to pieces on social life. Harper s Bazar is published by Hearst Magazine Corporation,

The reader is able to see part of the garment that is being worn, but the illustration doesn t inform the
viewer about how or when to wear such a garment. In his illustrations, Erté shows the popular gowns
and accessories of the season. Although his illustrations are mostly flat and lack detail, the drawings
themselves are striking evocations of the temptress type of feminine allure, and are works of art in
their own right whose exotic styles are inseparable from the style of the fashions they depict (Blum
68). The La Cage Improvisée was an example of a highly stylized design of two sinuous women
wearing dresses inspired by the stories of Arabian Nights. The dresses are depicted from the side to
highlight and exaggerate the fullness of the skirt. The colour, setting and styling of the illustration
indicate that the dresses were evening dresses. Evening dresses were typically made of very fine
materials, such as silk, chiffon or taffeta. They were often sleeveless or had short sleeves, and featured
a waist with layers of fabric to create fullness in the skirt. The hair was often accessorized with a hat
or a headband. The classic hat of the 1920s was the cloche hat. Other common styles were the
wrapped turban, the straw summer hat and a variety of different headbands. Hats displayed fewer
decorations than previously seen but they were still very expressive with either a bow or an art deco
shape. Beaded dresses were also very

Herman Melville lived a very adventurous life before starting his writing career, and his youth was a

fictitious ideas molded in. Born on August 1 of 1819 to Allen and Maria Melville, Herman soon came

Breaking The Law
Wealthy people who gets involved into legal problems should be judged the same way as a person
with lower income. Rich people get off easier when they break the law. People who have more money
think that they are better and that they could get off easier when they break the law. There is cases in
which been part of a wealthy families is the difference between going or not to jail. Lower class
people under the same circumstances as wealthy people will not have the same benefits and will really
get judged like the law says. Think twice before you cross in front of that Mercedes. Rich people drive
their expensive cars with little respect for the law. They break the rules thinking they won t have to

There has been cases in which being part of a rich family gives benefits when it gets to the time of
judging what they have done. In this particular cases rich people most of the times use their economic
or political power to buy or intimidate the judges, which will eventually lead to the possible freedom
of the person who is been judged by the law. One clear example of injustice based on economical
power was the case of the teenager Ethan Couch. Couch a sixteen year old teenager who was accused
of killing four people under the influence of alcohol this teenager who supposedly suffer from the
illness called affluenza was sentenced to ten years under probation. The juvenile court judge sentenced
this sixteen year old with ten years under probation this judge made her ruling after hearing from a
psychologist who claimed that Couch suffered from affluenza . At the same time the defence of this
teenager argued that Couch should not go to prison because of the same illness. It is very
disappointing that judges and other people who should make the law stand get easily persuaded by
money from rich people this is very unfair for the community and especially for victims of tragic
accidents caused by this type of persons who think that with money they can solve every problem that
they face with. It is even more tragic that judges and other people who should make people respect the
law get easily influenced by lies that rich people creates in order to avoid the jail. Ethan Couch was a
clear example of a case like that. His defence argued that this teen ager had a rare type of illness called
affluenza . Affluenza has been used to describe a condition in which children, generally from richer
families have a sense of entitlement, are irresponsible, and make excuses for poor behavior. Even
though affluenza is not a recognized illness

Fahrenheit 451 Quotes Analysis
Fahrenheit 451 Constructed Response In Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the Old Woman, Faber,
and the Hobos all were characters who influenced Guy Montag to develop the theme of books
possessing power. To begin, in the story, the Old Woman clearly expresses her yearning and
captivation, which guided Montag to comprehend the competence and truth behind books. For
example, the Old Woman was found having books and her house became a victim of the firemen s
occupation. A quote from herself in the text, You can t ever have my books, she said [Bradbury 39],
shows her persistence and tenaciousness for protecting her books from harm s way. To clarify, this Old
Woman insisted on staying with her books and dying, even though Montag tried forcing her to leave.
This impactful sacrifice of hers revealed to Montag that a virtuous, introvert like her still would die to

As a result, the inspiring, gallant actions of the Old Woman, advanced the theme of books possessing
power to Montag. Secondly, in the passage, Faber explicitly states that books contain an abundance of
universal knowledge and overall powers. For instance, Montag visits Faber to communicate about the
actual veracity about books. A quote in the text from Faber, himself, The magic is only in what the
books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us [86]. This
quote from Faber reveals that it s not the physical copies of the books themselves, but more so, what
they convey in the articles of the book. In other words, Faber teaches Montag that books, in a way, are
the realms and foundations of the outside world. Additionally, he somewhat says that books are the
only information in the society about the outside world. Thus, the wise, knowledgeable, and rational
conduct of Faber, reinforces the evolving of Montag s lesson of books possessing power. Last, but
most certainly not least, Granger and the other Hobos portray to Montag that

Abraham Lincoln And National Identity
America is a curious amalgamation of a country, with a unique national identity that is uniform in its
ideals of liberty yet just as diverse as the cultures it represents. This strong sense of national character
is the defining attribute that allows America to prosper against all unlikelihoods.
Although America occasionally falls victim to internal divisions, the opposing sides still share a
common culture, which gives hope for reconciliation and allows the country to succeed in improbable
situations. When Abraham Lincoln was elected to his second term in presidential office, America was
in the midst of a civil war that had divided the populace in more ways than one. However, Lincoln

Emanuel Leutze s Washington Crosses the Delaware is a dramatization of a famous moment in
American history where the Patriots rowed across the Delaware River under the cover of darkness and
under the leadership of their general, George Washington. In his painting, Leutze is uses pathos of the
light versus the dark to evoke national pride. The dichotomy of the two extremes is very well
entrenched in the American consciousness, and therefore a feature of interest is the background, which
has a gradient of light to dark as the observer views the image from left to right. However, George
Washington and his men are moving from right to left, and therefore they are moving away from the
dark and approaching the light. The light thus gains an additional meaning as a representation of
freedom and liberty, as the Revolutionary War that they were partaking in was fought against the
oppression and tyranny of the British towards their American colonies. Additionally, while
Washington makes a prominent figure in the foreground, the background also portrays a few dozen
men in boats whose direction can best be called ambivalent. While Leutze s portrayal is a glorification
of American history and undoubtedly of Washington himself, the ambivalence of the men further
portrays the strength of Washington s convictions in the common American value of liberty, even in
the face of the harsh conditions that affected he and his men in their fight for

Presence of Freemasonry in the United States of America
The first known freemason in U.S. history was John Skene. He had joined the Lodge No.1 Aberdeen,

Scurvy Is Not A Disease
Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was
prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not
generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about.
While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and
treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing.
Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different
ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many
of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors.
Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease
in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a
surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons
and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as
well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California,
and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. Scientists discovered an
antiscorbutic factor that citrus fruits and potatoes carried in 1931. This factor was

Although the agricultural sector of Mexico was affected by NAFTA, the country has another source of
income to keep their economy running gasoline and oil, tourism, and the remittance that is being sent

Mexico. It was documented in 2008 that there were $25 billion that was sent back to Mexico (The
Other Side of Immigration), but even though the country [Mexico] earns through oil, tourism, and
remittance, it was still not helpful for the Welton 26 and most Mexicans who migrated illegally to

States for better opportunities and to earn more money to provide for the ones they left behind.
Another sad truth why the Welton 26 and most Mexicans chose to migrate illegally here in the United
States was because the economy of Mexico is in a dilapidated situation because of the corruption of
their government officials. Most Mexicans would say that they are suffering because they are
neglected by their politicians no matter how hard they work (The Other Side of Immigration). Urrea

The Blind Side Essay
There were many characters in this movie that were apart of Michael s life. In the beginning we saw
coach Cotton, he was very judging but he wanted to have Michael play for his team so he talked the
board into letting Michael come to the school. Coach Cotton was very kind for that. Then we see the
family of four, a mom, dad, daughter, and son. The moms name was Leigh. Leigh was very
demanding but she was also very caring and defensive. Sean, the dad wasn t very much of anything.
He kind of just went with his wife wanted to do. Then my favorite, S.J., he was the closest to Mike,
well other than Leigh. S.J. was funny and he was very friendly. He helped Mike a lot at school and
with football. The last one was Collines. Collines was the daughter. At first I felt that she didn t want
anything to do with Michael. She kind of had an attitude but she was very sweet and she ended up
liking Mike. Everyone was very supportive of Michael. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his life. That really broke him out of his shell. He was told that he could do better by his teachers and I
really think that helped him. He started getting better grades in his classes. Then S.J. helped him with
his football. Michael saw that these people could help him and he stayed. He wanted that for himself. I

Hunger In Richard Wright s Black Boy
In Richard Wright s memoir Black Boy, Richard experiences both literal hunger and hunger for
equality. The many obstacles in his life positively transform his outlook and attitude towards the
deficiency of food and racial disparities. Richard develops into an improved person after the many
happenings that he gets himself into, and all of his experiences entirely prepare him for his future.
Richard Wright is hungry throughout the first nine chapters of his memoir no matter where he lives.
Whether it was Mississippi or Arkansas, Richard was hungry most of the time due to not having an
efficient amount of food being put on his plate. There are a few reasons for this struggle that Richard
faces. Firstly, when Richard was around 4 or 5, his dad, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One characteristic that stood out specifically when Richard was hungry, was his obstinacy and
immaturity. Richard is a very tenacious young boy at the start of the memoir, and when he becomes
extremely hungry, his stubbornness worsens. One of the first examples that demonstrate this is when
he has a chicken dinner with the preacher. He states that, I was happy, not because the preacher was
coming but because of the chicken (25). Richard specifically says that he was excited because of the
pleasant meal he was about to indulge in. It probably would have been the best meal he would have
had in weeks, until he ruined it for himself by being stubborn. When the dinner began, Richard
compared the bowl of soup that was sitting in front of him to the crispy, fried chicken on a platter in
the middle of the table. While Richard was staring at the delicious looking chicken, everyone else at
the table was eating their soup. As time went on, more and more people finished their soup and were
moving onto the chicken. Richard became very irritated and felt that it was unfair, even though his
mother told him that he could not eat the chicken until he ate all of his soup. Richard said, I leaped up
from the table, knowing that I should be ashamed of what I was doing, but unable to stop, and
screamed, running blindly from the room (26). Obviously, Richard was immature for reacting that way
to a problem that he could have resolved in a very different way. He could have eaten the soup and
then he would have had the chance to consume the chicken that he wanted so very

Compare And Contrast Ancient Greece And Rome
The ancient Greeks and Romans were among the most influential civilizations in the history of the
world. Even though the Roman Empire eventually conquered Greece, Greek culture lived on within
the Empire. The Roman form of government was the foundation of the design of the United States
Senate. Ironically, the office of the President of the United States is the same as a tyrant in ancient
times, that is a person who appealed of the common people to gain power. The Greeks and Romans
had many differences, but there are also interesting similarities.
The way the Greek Empire fell in XXX XXX B.C. was very similar to how the Roman Empire fell in
XXX XXX A.D. Both Empires were suffering from weak economies. The Greeks had just ended a
civil war while the Romans on the other hand suffered from hyperinflation . Both Empires were
invaded by forces that mostly likely would not have attacked had the Empires not already been weak
militarily and economically. After the western part of the Roman Empire was conquered by Germanic
Tribes in XX A.D. the eastern part became the Byzantine Empire, which blended many cultures and
lasted for hundreds of years, ensuring that elements of Roman culture would survive. Similarly, after

My First Love Essay
Everyone loves to tell the story of their first love, and the beautiful lesson they learned through the
adventure. You hear the phrase, you ll never forget your first as you see a small smirk flourish across
the faces of people who remember their story. Through all the experiences shared, I never would have
believed the result of falling out of love. All of the novels and sweet smiles never hinted about the
time I would end up crumbled down on my bedroom s floor, with two years of a person s presence
surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave for college, knowing
that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak that left me with a cracked and
bruised heart. The recovery and journey of finding acceptance and love for myself, created a book of
my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like reading the final book of your favorite series,
you soak in the words trying to read slow, savoring. Completing the series leaves a bitter sweet
moment, comparing to the emotions that overcame my mind through the process of watching him go.
However, it was not beautiful and bittersweet as romance novels paint your first love out to be. Each
page in our novel transformed from love to a war zone, as loyalty became nonexistent, and trust only
present in waves. The summer was beautiful, but in my heart I knew that this novel was only a fairy
tale coming to it s end. There was nothing left to be painted. That hot and humid

Forrest Hall Thesis Statement
The Middle Tennessee State University has announced plans to change the name of Forrest Hall,
which honors Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate military leader who went on, for a time, to be a
leader of the Ku Klux Klan. Sidney A. McPhee, president of the university, said he was following the
recommendation of a panel appointed to consider the name of Forrest Hall . I agree with the students
who want to change the name of the Forrest Hall Building on MTSU campus, because I think our
students have the responsibility as those with the power to change this name since we don t want to
our state university to represent something hateful. When MTSU built its ROTC building in 1954,
President Smith named it Forrest Hall in honor of Nathan Bedford Forrest s reputation as an intrepid
confederate cavalry leader who won fame with his brilliant raids. Maybe that was Forrest s reputation
in 1954, but in 2015 Forrest s reputation becomes one of hate, racism, and violence. We do not want
or need that at MTSU . The history department, Dr. Kristine McCusker says I see what they struggle
with, and that building should acknowledge that struggle and not have Nathan Bedford Forrest s name
on it. We want to create a safe environment students. Those students see that this name symbolises
racism and hatred. We have to be proud by every building at MTSU that s why those students need to
change this name. For the students of this campus, I think this is the most unifying decision the
university can make. A quick background on Nathan Bedford Forrest, was a lieutenant general in the
CSAArmy and he was a slave trader, war criminal, and terrorist. Before the civil war, Forrest made a
fortune trading enslaved people during the war, Forrest s men brutalized Union soldiers, most
notable massacring African American union soldiers at Fort Pillow after they surrendered,
and after the war, Forrest became a prominent leader of the first Ku Klus Klan. I don t intend to
debate Forrest as he lived, I do intend to analyse how Forrest has been canonized at MTSU. To
be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between Forrest and MTSU. Even at the
dedication of Forrest Hall, the only connection that could be made was

Imagery Used In Macbeth
The highly acclaimed play called Macbeth often uses many literary devices and imagery to come to a
conclusion about a topic. One of the frequent uses of imagery in this play is the imagery of sleep and
death. Shakespeare often uses the sleep and death imagery to set a tense and eerie tone in the play.
This is seen in the actions of Lady Macbeth in act 5 of the play, the actions of the character Macbeth,
and the scene of and following Duncan s death. First of all, Shakespeare uses the sleep and death
imagery to set an eerie and tense tone within the actions of Lady Macbeth in act 5. It is first used when
she is sleepwalking. In the play, Lady Macbeth is shown sleepwalking at night, speaking during her
sleepwalk, and also having her eyes open, during the dialogue between the gentlewoman and the
doctor saying, GENTLEWOMAN Lo you, here she comes. This is her very guise; and, / upon my life,
fast asleep. Observe her, stand close / [...] DOCTOR You see her eyes are open. / GENTLEWOMAN
Ay, but their sense is shut / [...] DOCTOR Hark! She speaks (Shakespeare V.I.21 22, 26 27,34). She is
completely unresponsive to anything which sets an eerie mood. It does so as the state that she is in is
paradoxical which makes not only bewilders and weirds out the doctor in the scene, but the audience
as well by contradicting the norms. Not only is she sleeping but walking, she is also speaking but
cannot hear, and also has open eyes and a light but cannot see. The scene then proceeds

Gun Control Fallacies
The author makes several main claims throughout his articles such as, national news stories are
virtually never done on permit holders stopping mass public shootings, and the proposals put forward
by gun control advocates wouldn t have stopped this attack. The columnist firmly believes in the
power of the second amendment and as such, he wants to limit the amount of new laws that control
how much the people can hold and use weapons. The claims listed are claims of fact and policy
respectively. He gives several examples of how these different prevented mass shootings were not
widely advertised and how the ones that were not stopped were all over news stations to convince
people that guns are not helping the common people. The author then proposes that the changes that
gun control advocates propose will not make a difference and begins to give reasons why which
makes this a claim of policy. He says that making a change will not make any change so the laws
should be left the same as they are now, or they should be more inclusive to allow more people to
carry a concealed weapon.
One of the main fallacies that the author uses in his articles is a hasty generalization. He uses the
example of the Texas shooter and his bad background that would have prevented a weapons liscence
to make the generalization that, their proposals wouldn t have stopped any of the other mass public
shootings in the last couple decades. The author does not back this claim up very well and

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet s Appeal to Audiences in Modern Time Four hundred years
ago, William Shakespeare wrote what is perhaps the world s best loved play: Romeo and Juliet . It still

large number of related impressions, ideas and emotions are woven together throughout the play; this
ensures an audience s interest is maintained throughout. The play changes from violence to beauty ...

Romeo: He shall be endured (I.5, line 76). It surprises the audience that Capulet speaks well of his

Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow
discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited
by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and
argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the
traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on
its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of
Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives
through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint
towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved
compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism:
Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger
properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives
because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The
European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards
hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing

The Minister s Black Veil And The Fall Of The House Of...
Both of the short stories The Minister s Black Veil, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and The Fall of the
House of Usher, by Edgar Allan Poe, deal with the theme of the evil of human nature. However,
Hawthorne presents all of human nature as naturally tending towards evil, whereas Poe only portrays
certain types of evil, such as the ability for mankind to be incestuous out of prideful, arrogant desires.
In The Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper, the village minister, begins daily wearing a black veil for
mysterious reasons. While a veil typically symbolizes mourning and sorrow, the villagers saw the veil
as representing so much more though they were unsure of what. The veil both terrifies the villagers
and makes them feel drawn to Mr. Hooper. As the story progresses, we learn that Mr. Hooper used the
veil to symbolize the evil natures that all human beings try to hide. We first see the connection
between the veil and evil when we learn, while wearing the veil, Mr. Hooper became very effective in
being able to convert sinners to Christianity. Sinners felt drawn to him because they felt some sort of
connection between themselves and the veil. As the narrator explains, sinners said they felt that before
he brought them to celestial light, they had been with him behind the veil. In addition to being able to
strongly influence Christian converts, those who were dying felt drawn to him and cried aloud for Mr.
Hooper, and would not yield their breath till he appeared. We later

L Oreal of Paris: Bringing Class to mass with Plenitude
Ana Paula Terzi Palombo
1) Describe Plenitude s position in the US market in the early 1996. Why has it apparently been less
successful in the US than in France when the French success formula was used in the US?
Because L Oreal had a commitment with the trade that they would keep investing and supporting its
brands financially and considering that P G had a very strong market position in the masstige skin care

Although his illustrations are mostly flat and lack detail, the drawings themselves are striking evocations of the temptress type of feminine allure, and are works of art in their own right whose exotic styles are inseparable from the style of the fashions they depict (Blum 68). The La Cage Improvisée was an example of a highly stylized design of two sinuous women wearing dresses inspired by the stories of Arabian Nights. The dresses are depicted from the side to highlight and exaggerate the fullness of the skirt. The colour, setting and styling of the illustration indicate that the dresses were evening dresses. Evening dresses were typically made of very fine materials, such as silk, chiffon or taffeta. They were often sleeveless or had short sleeves, and featured a waist with layers of fabric to create fullness in the skirt. The hair was often accessorized with a hat or a headband. The classic hat of the 1920s was the cloche hat. Other common styles were the wrapped turban, the straw summer hat and a variety of different headbands. Hats displayed fewer decorations than previously seen but they were still very expressive with either a bow or an art deco shape. Beaded dresses were also very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There has been cases in which being part of a rich family gives benefits when it gets to the time of judging what they have done. In this particular cases rich people most of the times use their economic or political power to buy or intimidate the judges, which will eventually lead to the possible freedom of the person who is been judged by the law. One clear example of injustice based on economical power was the case of the teenager Ethan Couch. Couch a sixteen year old teenager who was accused of killing four people under the influence of alcohol this teenager who supposedly suffer from the illness called affluenza was sentenced to ten years under probation. The juvenile court judge sentenced this sixteen year old with ten years under probation this judge made her ruling after hearing from a psychologist who claimed that Couch suffered from affluenza . To begin, in the story, the Old Woman clearly expresses her yearning and captivation, which guided Montag to comprehend the competence and truth behind books. For example, the Old Woman was found having books and her house became a victim of the firemen s occupation. A quote from herself in the text, You can t ever have my books, she said [Bradbury 39], shows her persistence and tenaciousness for protecting her books from harm s way. A quote in the text from Faber, himself, The magic is only in what the books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us [86]. This quote from Faber reveals that it s not the physical copies of the books themselves, but more so, what they convey in the articles of the book. In other words, Faber teaches Montag that books, in a way, are the realms and foundations of the outside world. Additionally, he somewhat says that books are the only information in the society about the outside world. Emanuel Leutze s Washington Crosses the Delaware is a dramatization of a famous moment in American history where the Patriots rowed across the Delaware River under the cover of darkness and under the leadership of their general, George Washington. In his painting, Leutze is uses pathos of the light versus the dark to evoke national pride. The dichotomy of the two extremes is very well entrenched in the American consciousness, and therefore a feature of interest is the background, which has a gradient of light to dark as the observer views the image from left to right. However, George Washington and his men are moving from right to left, and therefore they are moving away from the dark and approaching the light. The light thus gains an additional meaning as a representation of freedom and liberty, as the Revolutionary War that they were partaking in was fought against the oppression and tyranny of the British towards their American colonies. Additionally, while Washington makes a prominent figure in the foreground, the background also portrays a few dozen men in boats whose direction can best be called ambivalent. While Leutze s portrayal is a glorification of American history and undoubtedly of Washington himself, the ambivalence of the men further portrays the strength of Washington s convictions in the common American value of liberty, even in the face of the harsh conditions that affected he and his men in their fight for ... While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. • 29. Forrest Hall Thesis Statement The Middle Tennessee State University has announced plans to change the name of Forrest Hall, which honors Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate military leader who went on, for a time, to be a leader of the Ku Klux Klan. Sidney A. McPhee, president of the university, said he was following the recommendation of a panel appointed to consider the name of Forrest Hall . I agree with the students who want to change the name of the Forrest Hall Building on MTSU campus, because I think our students have the responsibility as those with the power to change this name since we don t want to our state university to represent something hateful. When MTSU built its ROTC building in 1954, President Smith named it Forrest Hall in honor of Nathan Bedford Forrest s reputation as an intrepid confederate cavalry leader who won fame with his brilliant raids. Maybe that was Forrest s reputation in 1954, but in 2015 Forrest s reputation becomes one of hate, racism, and violence. We do not want or need that at MTSU . The history department, Dr. Kristine McCusker says I see what they struggle with, and that building should acknowledge that struggle and not have Nathan Bedford Forrest s name on it. We want to create a safe environment students. Those students see that this name symbolises racism and hatred. We have to be proud by every building at MTSU that s why those students need to change this name. For the students of this campus, I think this is the most unifying decision the university can make. A quick background on Nathan Bedford Forrest, was a lieutenant general in the CSAArmy and he was a slave trader, war criminal, and terrorist. Before the civil war, Forrest made a fortune trading enslaved people during the war, Forrest s men brutalized Union soldiers, most notable massacring African American union soldiers at Fort Pillow after they surrendered, and after the war, Forrest became a prominent leader of the first Ku Klus Klan. • 30. Imagery Used In Macbeth The highly acclaimed play called Macbeth often uses many literary devices and imagery to come to a conclusion about a topic. One of the frequent uses of imagery in this play is the imagery of sleep and death. Shakespeare often uses the sleep and death imagery to set a tense and eerie tone in the play. This is seen in the actions of Lady Macbeth in act 5 of the play, the actions of the character Macbeth, and the scene of and following Duncan s death. First of all, Shakespeare uses the sleep and death imagery to set an eerie and tense tone within the actions of Lady Macbeth in act 5. It is first used when she is sleepwalking. In the play, Lady Macbeth is shown sleepwalking at night, speaking during her sleepwalk, and also having her eyes open, during the dialogue between the gentlewoman and the doctor saying, GENTLEWOMAN Lo you, here she comes. This is her very guise; and, / upon my life, fast asleep. Observe her, stand close / [...] DOCTOR You see her eyes are open. / GENTLEWOMAN Ay, but their sense is shut / [...] DOCTOR Hark! She speaks (Shakespeare V.I.21 22, 26 27,34). She is completely unresponsive to anything which sets an eerie mood. It does so as the state that she is in is paradoxical which makes not only bewilders and weirds out the doctor in the scene, but the audience as well by contradicting the norms. Not only is she sleeping but walking, she is also speaking but cannot hear, and also has open eyes and a light but cannot see. The scene then proceeds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Gun Control Fallacies The author makes several main claims throughout his articles such as, national news stories are virtually never done on permit holders stopping mass public shootings, and the proposals put forward by gun control advocates wouldn t have stopped this attack. The columnist firmly believes in the power of the second amendment and as such, he wants to limit the amount of new laws that control how much the people can hold and use weapons. The claims listed are claims of fact and policy respectively. He gives several examples of how these different prevented mass shootings were not widely advertised and how the ones that were not stopped were all over news stations to convince people that guns are not helping the common people. The author then proposes that the changes that gun control advocates propose will not make a difference and begins to give reasons why which makes this a claim of policy. He says that making a change will not make any change so the laws should be left the same as they are now, or they should be more inclusive to allow more people to carry a concealed weapon. One of the main fallacies that the author uses in his articles is a hasty generalization. He uses the example of the Texas shooter and his bad background that would have prevented a weapons liscence to make the generalization that, their proposals wouldn t have stopped any of the other mass public shootings in the last couple decades. The author does not back this claim up very well and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Conrad s Heart Of Darkness The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism: Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing ... • 34. The Minister s Black Veil And The Fall Of The House Of... Both of the short stories The Minister s Black Veil, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and The Fall of the House of Usher, by Edgar Allan Poe, deal with the theme of the evil of human nature. However, Hawthorne presents all of human nature as naturally tending towards evil, whereas Poe only portrays certain types of evil, such as the ability for mankind to be incestuous out of prideful, arrogant desires. In The Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper, the village minister, begins daily wearing a black veil for mysterious reasons. While a veil typically symbolizes mourning and sorrow, the villagers saw the veil as representing so much more though they were unsure of what. The veil both terrifies the villagers and makes them feel drawn to Mr. Hooper. As the story progresses, we learn that Mr. Hooper used the veil to symbolize the evil natures that all human beings try to hide. We first see the connection between the veil and evil when we learn, while wearing the veil, Mr. Hooper became very effective in being able to convert sinners to Christianity. Sinners felt drawn to him because they felt some sort of connection between themselves and the veil. As the narrator explains, sinners said they felt that before he brought them to celestial light, they had been with him behind the veil. In addition to being able to strongly influence Christian converts, those who were dying felt drawn to him and cried aloud for Mr. Hooper, and would not yield their breath till he appeared.
