It has to be remembered that most of ZOU. Students are working parents with school or college
going children. These kinds of pressures are the backdrop to a typical student life at ZOU. Time
management becomes an interesting challenge to those who do not have an abundance of it.
When this high wire balancing act fails to deliver ,a scapegoat has to be found. That is when
mitigating excuses are postulated e.g. the lecturers are out of their depth in their specialty areas,
modules are outdated etc. The legitimacy or not of these excuses is part of the subject of this
study. 1.1)STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Given the above background it is apparent that
there is a gap between students expectations and the results from their studies. 1.2)RESEARCH
OBJECTIVES: a) To find out the reasons for the low pass rates in management accounting and
tax, law and practice. b) To find ways of countering this negative trend and pass our
recommendations onto the relevant people. 1.3)RESEARCH QUESTIONS: Basically here we
gave out a questionnaire with a grid of possible factors that may or may not affect the students
success or failure. It was accompanied by open ended questions. 1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
STUDY: The study was necessitated by the low pass rates in the past three semesters. Consequently
the results of the study will influence how ZOU, the students and other stakeholders view and

How Does The Cleveland Clinic Affect The Community
With the Cleveland Clinic being nonprofit, they really make sure to engage with the community by
getting involved in a broad range of medical research, educational training programs, and supporting
the community health initiatives (Community Impact 2017 | Cleveland Clinic). The Clinic is
absolutely making an impact in the community, as more companies are developing and gradually
growing around them. The bigger challenge is that the community is still very much poor and
unhealthy. According to (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), over one third of the
population that live around the hospitalhave diabetes. Another big part of the population has
Cancer, Heart Disease, and Kidney disease. The hospital can continue to add new things and
make changes, but it has no control of what is happening to the city around them. The clinic is
ranked second in the world report hospital rankings. It employs over 50,000 people in just the
Ohio clinic. They also spend millions of dollars on additional education for their physicians, and
also with making community investments. They have also put over $500,000 into a program to
get rid of run down homes within the neighborhood. One of the clinics most significant investment
was for the Langston Hughes Education Center. They offer free exercise equipment and adult day
care. (By: Dan Diamond/07/17/17/ The Clinic is a global success story, but it s host community
remains mired in poverty) So when it comes to economy impact, they truly do go over and beyond
and put out quite a bit of money and support other organizations. Regarding the Healthcare Reform,
the clinic is partnering with Oscar Health regarding insurance. The plans are going to be sold on the
Ohio health insuranceexchange starting in 2018. According to (CFO Steve Glass), the clinic and
Oscar Health are going to offer a different and unique approach. This will allow patients to navigate
the user friendly insurance systems, which will get them the highest quality of care at a very
affordable rate. In regard to regulations within the clinic, the government and community relations
work at all different levels to ensure regulations are implanted at the best interest for the clinic. They

Questions For The Group Discussion
Two Questions for the group discussion:
Inside a church, a pastor has flipped a verse of the bible to accommodate polygamy. Consulted by a
business millionaire, the pastor ransacked the bible and finally arrived at a verse to support the holy
matrimony. Quoting Isaiah 4:1 the pastor joined the notable influential member with three women .
Does the text Isaiah 4:1 justify the polygamous wedding?
During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo
of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. The scenario in a sociological
dimension prompted the geographical background where the wedding could have happened. It is
assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably
does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and
punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and
shockingly among faith communities.
The expression that the Pastor flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy , could be
inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man s money or that he was afraid of losing
his membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church
member. However, for charity sake, we do not know the bigger picture of what really happened or
what might have moved the pastor to succumb to the risky demand. Sociologically his society
allows it otherwise

Wilfred Owen s Diction
Wilfred Owen s diction creates unusual and horrific view of war, and its consequences. Owen
begins the poem with What passing bells for these who died as cattle (1). Owen sees the dying
soilders as cattle, which make it seem inhuman, and death with no cause, making human seem like
animals. Owen also uses these instead of those, creates a sense of closeness, putting the reader on
the battlefield. He continues Only the monstrous anger of the guns / Only the stuttering rifles rapid
rattle (2 3). Owen uses personification of the guns making them a monstrous anger, which creates a
violent and gruesome itea. The personification of the gun creates a complete opposite switch, where
humans have become animals and items have become humans. The... Show more content on

The passing bells in the first line is a reference to how the church used to ring the bells when
someone died. Owen states that the soldiers that die in battle do not get the lovely church bells,
but the continuation of rifles firing. The soldiers deaths are not recognized until the soldier
returns home, families try to make sense of their senseless death with rituals, songs, and
funerals. The pallor of girls brows shall be their pall (12). Owen shows a girl that was left behind
after the soldier s death. Owen replaces the common placing of pall on the coffin with a grieving
face, meaning that instead of the pall, the girl s face will be metaphorically draped over the coffin
signifies the girls greef. Owen wants the reader to see the real suffering that war causes by showing
the weight of the girls sorrow. Owen ends the poem with, And each slow dusk a drawing down
of blinds (14). Owen reinforces the thought of death in the last line with the settling of dust. The
closing of the blinds is symbolic, and shows how the people at home keep the realities of war
out of their minds. Owen is also showing how people do not take responsibility for their actions.
Owen choose to have the blinds close themselve, so no one is to blame for the closing of the
blinds. It could also simply be a symbol of someone mourning by themselves in their own

He had no regular work either, simply doing odd jobs for others. The author states that the
wandering peasants degree was humble. Due to peasants were oppressed by bourgeoisie, they
led to a miserable life in that time. However, he was arrogant and conceit. Ah Q had a very high
opinion of himself. He looked down on all the inhabitants of Weichuang, thinking even the two
young scholars not worth a smile, though most young scholars were likely to pass the official
examinations. Furthermore, the book portrayed the personality and behavior of Ah Q. winning
a psychological victory was obvious character for Ah Q. For instance, Ah Q, this is not a son
beating his father, it is a man beating a beast. Let s hear you say it: A man bearing a beast!
Though this method, Ah Q can decrease the external pressure, but the result is that he escapes
from reality. In that era, Ah Q s character and his winner a psychological victory have a broad
representation, not only the behaviors of Ah Q are ridiculers, but also reflect the national character.
In sum, there are lots of people the same as Ah Q, who are ignorant, idle and complaining. These
people are pathetic and sad.

there is no culture different form everyone else with deaf people. I have had the opportunity to

stimulation of the eyes and the enhanced visual perceptiveness of Deaf individuals. This has

tradition of storytelling has allowed members of the Deaf community to pass down the histories of
great Deaf men and women, providing for Deaf children access to role models that enable them to
feel rooted in history, while also giving them mentors with common experiences. Most Deaf people

The movies Blood Diamond (2006), directed by Edward Zwick and The Constant Gardener
(2005), directed by Fernando Meirelles, both focus mainly on the exploitation of Africa, especially
by The West and Europe. By highlight these important issues the movies awaken a sense of
awareness in their audiences.
In The Constant Gardener , Rachel Weiszwas cast as one of the main Characters; Tessa Quayle.
From the first memories Justin has of her in the conference room, Tessa is presented as a
passionate activist, who perhaps acts before she thinks (this is shown by her embarrassment after
she boldly shared her thoughts in the conference room). The connection she shared with the
children from Africa brings her loving and caring nature to the foreground and this motherly nature
is highlighted even further by Tessa s pregnancy. Tessa does however have an extremely secretive
side which is one of the conflicts Tessa faces with Justin. By keeping part of her life a secret, she
prevents Justin from fully understanding her, which leads to miscommunication and ultimately a
breach of trust as Justin suspects that Tessa is having an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Adolescent Suicide Is A Preventable Public Health Issue
Introduction
Although most of the media attention focuses on adolescent homicide, suicide deaths should have
us more alarmed, and we should understand that adolescent suicide is a preventable public health
issue. In adolescent Suicide deaths are more prevalent than homicide deaths (CDC, 2012).
According to the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Web based Injury Statistics Query
and Reporting System (WISQARS), suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents
age 13 to 17 (CDC, 2016). That number surpasses the number of deaths due to chronic diseases
such as cancer, HIV, and diabetes. While this is a significant number, not all suicide attempts are
reported (Joiner, 2005). Furthermore, suicide accounted for 10 % of ... Show more content on

(Durkheim, 1951, Danigelis, Pope,1979).
Shneidman s theory of psychache argues suicide is caused by a certain kind of psychological
pain. Risk factors increases psychache which leads an individual to suicidality (Shneidman,
1993). The pain is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide.
Baumeister s escape theory of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals
perception of expectations and actual events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness
develops, (individual focuses on negative aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an
attempt to escape the effects from the first two steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive
deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control.
These theories focus more on the emotional and psychological aspect of suicide. They seem to
identify what causes the suicide ideation. However, it does not explain how one goes from
emotion to action. Just because someone has thought about suicide, does not mean they will
attempt suicide, they need to have the acquired capability (lack of fear of dying) in order to
attempt suicide (Joiner, 2005, Van Orden et al.,). Suicide is a very difficult act, it requires you to
go against the self preservation you have been programmed with (Ohman Mineka, 2001).

If you re from Toronto, chances are you re familiar with the flashing bright entrance and quirky
handwritten signs of Honest Ed s. The iconic establishment was initially opened up as a discount
store in 1948 by Ed Mirvish but has since become one of the cities most well known landmarks
for tourists and locals alike. Located on the corner of Bloor and Bathurst, the kitsch department
stores twenty three thousand bulb sign isn t the only interesting thing about the place; the
merchandise inside ranges from tube socks to gold Elvis busts, each advertised with a unique
hand painted sign. It was hard news for some Torontonians to hear that after serving the city for

The Mirvish family was left with the massive store that was losing its sales while the value of its
real estate rose, making it s sale almost inevitable.
The Vancouver based developer who purchased the site revealed their hopes of using the space to
build a 1000 unit rental project there, including parks, public squares and childcare facilities.
To commemorate its vibrant history, the TTC has give Bathurst station a makeover, replacing all
the signs with hand written ones, and covering the walls with cheeky statements that would make
Ed Mirvish proud such as Been there Dundas.
The installation is said to last until the end of this year but there is some discussion as to making
it permanent. The idea was thought up by TTC manager of customer service, Chris Upfold who
stated, The store was there before the subway. It was there when we were running streetcars on
Bloor. We helped customers and staff get to Honest Ed s then, and we ll continue to serve the

man who lives in a poor shape apartment in the Bronx, isolating himself from the world around

Airport Construction Has A Major Effect On The Community
Airport construction has a major effect on everyone involved and also the community around the
airport. When an airport begins to make plans for expansion or repairs a whole list of things are
researched and planned years in advance. The airport manager is responsible for overseeing the
project and confirming that everything goes as planned and everyone stays safe in the process.
There are multiple regulations to abide by not only from the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA), but by the city and the Occupational Safety and Health Association (0SHA). All of these
regulations are enforced to help mitigate the risk involved in airportconstruction. Airport

So with that being an issue the airport is faced with the decision of buying new land which usually
results in buying whole neighborhoods and businesses. By doing this the airport personnel has to
make it right for the people living in these neighborhoods and offer them good compensation to
move away from the airport. They also have to think about the businesses around there and how the
economy will be effected if those around forced to move. But if the economy will benefit from the
construction at the airport in the long run the homeowners and businesses will not have a choice to
stay, but once again they will be takin care of. Communities that use roads and highways by airports
can be burdened by airport construction because of the increased traffic from construction vehicles
hauling equipment and supplies to the airport. A lot of times construction companies have to travel
through neighborhoods and other main roads that causes huge headaches for the community.
Airport construction also poses a short term but substantial threat to the environment with all the
different jobs being done, there are a lot of different construction equipment such as cranes, dozers,
excavators, concrete equipment, etc. that can cause problems with the environment. The main
environmental issues affected by include air, water, and noise pollution. Air pollution has always

A Rose for Emily and A Good Man is Hard to Find
The writing style of southern gothic uses many different techniques such as macabre, ironic events
that look at the values of the south. Two writers that are famous for the southern gothic style are
William Faulkner and Flannery O Conner. Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily, depicts a well
rounded woman who is discovered to have a rotting corpse of her husband in her bedroom, and O
Conner s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , that shows a southern family s death at the hand
of a ruthless murderer are both extremely good examples of southern gothic story. While both of
these great writers use southern gothic style they both still use it to demonstrate very different
aspects of southern culture. By comparing and contrasting these two great southern gothic style
writers you will be able to see just how different an author can write a story that still have the same
style of writing just by using a few different techniques. I will focus more on the how the works
achieve their effect, their insight into a human problem, their presentation of emotion and
consciousness, and their giving the reader pleasure.
The single most important aspect that defines southern gothic writing is the use of macabre, or
malformed, events. These distinguished events are easy identified in both of these short stories.
Faulkner s story, A Rose for Emily, was told

Teaching For Improved Student Learning
SC3 Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to
inform teaching for improved student learning. Whenever I begin a unit, I access NAPLAN
results to allow me to gauge my students ability and progress, and adapt my pedagogies
accordingly. I also use TORC testing and On Demand data to provide me with the information
required to ensure my students are able to understand and complete my common formative
tasks. I attempt to provide prompt, useful and constructive feedback to my students. I ask my
students to submit their work using Edmodo, where I can offer assistance and feedback outside
of class times. I present my students with an anonymous work survey using Survey Monkey,
where they have the opportunity to self assess their previous work. I did this, as I wanted to
understand how my students believed they were performing before I assessed them myself. I
gave all of my students a variety of assessment tasks and methods to give them and their parents

I was then able to report on how far students had progressed during the year, how they compared
to the relevant standards, and where the student s performance needed improvement. This also
allowed me to reflect on my performance and to seek areas where I could improve my teaching.

Pros And Cons Of The Electoral College
There are some that would argue that the Electoral College should not be abolished. Williams
argued, According to 2013 census data, nine states California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois,
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan have populations that total roughly 160 million,
slightly more than half the U.S. population. It is conceivable that just nine states could determine
the presidency in a popular vote (Williams). Consequently, without the Electoral College, nine states
can possibly determine the results of an election. Those that support the Electoral College think that
electionsshould be by state instead of a vote per person. The Electoral College can keep
unqualified candidates from winning an election and therefore, become president. Talents for low
intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in
a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the
esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be
necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United
States. It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a constant probability of seeing the station
filled by characters pre eminent for ability and virtue (Williams). He supports the idea that the
Electoral College keeps unqualified candidates from becoming the president. He also talks about

Summary Of The Fatal Environment By Richard Slotkin
This painting shows a Native American tribe on a snowy hill. They are watching a train pass by
diagonally below them. The party appears to be travelling somewhere together. Several of the
individuals are horseback riding while the others are walking. ItВґs looks like they are fleeing from
something, almost as these people are vanishing away from reality. This Trail of Tears
that they are
riding/walking on was the the path that displaced North American Indian tribes from their land east

Slotkin illustrates the emergence by 1890 of a myth that was redefined to help Americans answer
the misperception and conflict of the industrialization and grand extension. In The Fatal
Environment, Richard Slotkin proves in what way the myth of frontier growth and defeat of the
Native Americans helped to validate the progression of Americas final stand as a symbol for
whatever Americans feared might occurred if the frontier were to be closed, and the violent part be
allowable to rule the civilized, Slotkin displays the rise by 1890 of a fable redefined to support
Americans answer to the misunderstanding and contention of industrialization and grand extension.
Sweeney is comparing The Fatal Environment to The Morning of a New Day.
He argues that the reason why Farny s Morning of a New Day attract few imitators is because of
the ambivalent image of the fatal environment within it. The fact that it represents the genocide of
the Native American tribes was the result the dominant bourgeois group s belief in its self
proclaimed manifest destiny to take the West from the Native Americans by military conquest,
through technological and entrepreneurial superiority, or if necessary by outright theft. (Page 141)

Is the Funeral Industry Affected by Recession
How the funeral industry is being impacted and changed by the Global Recession? Benjamin
Franklin s old adage in this world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes has
never been truer. However, if he was around today he might change his spelling of death to debt .
Taxes in Ireland have increased recently and the forthcoming emergency budget looks certain to
bring further misery to the population. So while governments are busy collecting whatever taxes
they can, people are still dying! You are born and then you die, it is a simple fact of life. In fact
the portion in between we call life is the uncertain part. When you die you will require the services
of an undertaker / funeraldirector. They are there to tax you one... Show more content on

Laurence Shatkin seems to think that the industry is recession proof. He ranks a funeral
director at number 84 in his recent book 150 Best Recession Proof Jobs . Yes the work will
continue to come and as the baby boomers come of age, so to speak, the funeral industry doesn t
look like slowing down. However, it is not just the people that are dying, the profits are too!
People have become more cost conscious as a consequence of the recession and even in their time
of grief they are starting to shop around for the best deal to bury their loved ones. Remember, death
can be sudden and unplanned and a costly funeral will rarely be budgeted for. A funeral is a
celebration of someone s life and often the extravagance is a reflection of the respect for that
person. Irish people are famed for their funeral celebrations otherwise known as a good send off
. Nobody wants to cut back on any of the customs associated with a traditional funeral, however,
Dermott Jewell of the Consumers Association of Ireland has said I don t think anyone can
underestimate the difficulty of asking questions or querying things at the time of a funeral but
the fact is, you are availing of a service that comes at a cost and it can be quite extreme. There are
alternatives and you do have a choice. There is a personal barrier there that you may be seen as
being mean but nobody should think in that vein The alternatives are straight forward. Choose a

Drones Technology Research Paper
CURRENT DRONES TECHNOLOGY 1.) Methane is a greenhouse gas that contributes to
global warming and inherently dangerous to human health. It can also be a potent energy
source and a potential indicator of life or life like activity. NASA uses the Open Path Laser
Spectrometer with the drones to detect methane gas leaks large and small (Atherton, 2016). 2.)
Electric drones are often limited to just 20 minutes of air time before they have to land and get
new batteries, or wait for the old batteries to charge. With hydrogen fuel cells, a commercial,
electric drone could spend up to two hours hanging in the sky, be refueled almost instantly after
landing, and then take another 120 minutes in the air. This flying contraption is the result of
Intelligent Energy, who attached a hydrogen fuel cell to a DJI Matrice 100 quadcopter. The fuel
cell and its fuel weigh just 3.5 pounds, which is lighter than the battery it replaces (Atherton,
2016). 3.) The first urban delivery in the United States by a fully autonomous drone was held in
Hawthorne, Nevada. The drone was flown by drone delivery company Flirtey, which got it s start in

Introduction
While Islam stresses on the unity of humanity, it also recognizes human diversity and gives
valuable principles to deal with ethnic, racial and religious differences in society. This paper
discusses Religious Pluralism in the light of Quran and Hadith. Islam gives rights to all citizens of
Muslim state; granting them protection and allowing them to co exist in a multi religious society

It sets forth both the etiquette and theology of dialogue. A number of verses in Quran have
mentioned the way to deal and communicate with the book of people and other religions as well.
Book of people have been separated from other pagan religions but both have been granted
rights. For the people of the book, Quran mentions: Do not debate with the people of the Book
save in the fairest manner, except those among them who do wrong; and say to them we accept
faith in that which was sent down to us [that is the Qur an] and that which was sent down to you

How Did Galileo Contribute To The Scientific Revolution
Galileo was a mathematician, astronomer, physicist, and teacher who played a major role in the
scientific revolution during the Renaissance Era. Galileo put the concepts of experiments, theory
and mathematics together to advance the scientific world. He is often referred to the Father of
Science. Galileo was born February 15, 1564 in Pisa in the Duchy of Florence, Italy. He was the
first of six children born of Giulia Ammannati and Vincenzo Galilei, a musician and music
theorist. His family moved to Florence in 1574 where he started his education at the Camaldolse
Monastery in Vallombrosa. In 1583, Galileo attended the University of Pisa to study medicine; he
was exposed to an Aristotelian view of the world. In 1585, he left the University of Pisa before
earning his degree. After he left, he still continued to study mathematics while he was away from

experiment, which means that the balls on an inclined plan would roll to the same position as

when two objects are dropped, the heavier object will hit the ground before the lighter object.
Galileo proved that theory to be incorrect when he dropped objects from the Leaning Tower of
Pisa, and noticed that objects fall to the ground at the same time if air resistance is negligible.
This experiment helped him come up with the concept of acceleration. Galileo also proposed the
first Theory of Relativity and stated that there is no physical way to differentiate between a body
moving at a constant speed and an immobile body. He also attempted to measure the speed of light,
but discovered that light moved to

Dada s Contribution to Contemporary Art
Dada and its impact on Contemporary Art According to the Oxford Dictionary of art, Dada was
A movement in European art (with manifestations also in New York), c.1915 c.1922,
characterized by a spirit of rebellious revolt against traditional values. It arose from a mood of
cynicism engendered by the First World War, to which some artists reacted with, cynicism,
sarcasm and nihilism. Gathering in Hugo Balls Cabaret Voltaire for spontaneous readings,
performances and exhibitions, a group of early avant gardes mainly of German and French origin,
formed the organization known as Dada. (Justin Wolf s Dada) Numerous explanations were given

This can sometimes seem odd to the public who does not see its values and heroic stature,
resulting in art not being noticed and appreciated by collectors, galleries and museums but

research above, we saw how Dada was formed, its members, its major centres, and major work
and how it led to the birth of the Surrealism, which ultimately had a positive direct effect on art of
the 21st century and how it is viewed, thus making contemporary art what it is today.

Although, the persona does state that the actual truth exists in some. Hill acknowledges that some
have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking
and living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness,
image exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the
idea of the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and
deception (line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been
provided. When we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and
are then repeated and reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of
society.
Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam
Webster 1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants
us to believe. The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral
dilemma, pride is the root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have
been taken from what is right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been
misguided at a very young age. Our minds and hearts have been separated from what is right in
the world. Lacan s Model of the Psyche can be directly related to how the persona feels about this

According to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle on William I, the first Norman king was a very wise
and great man, and more honored and more powerful than any of his predecessors , but he also
caused castles to be built and oppressed the poor. 1 The portrait of William the Conqueror is
very conflicted, especially in this source since it was written from an Anglo Saxon perspective,
or, in other words, from the perspective of the loser side of the 1066 Hastings battle. If the
Norman Conquest had any impact on England, it can certainly be expressed in terms of changes in
the political balance of power. I will argue, however, that the Norman Conquest did not radically

Firstly, William brought new incomes with his new lands, even if it still seems less important to
the huge Angevin empire of Henry II, that also included Aquitaine, Maine and Anjou. There was
also a decrease in land value, especially in the North after their two revolts against the king, which
led to the systematical destruction of the countryside by William I, to make sure that no army
could ever be raised from here. However, William also had a positive impact on the English
economy, since he developped the trade with the Continent, expanded the cities and encouraged
urbanization and the settlement of Jews, who could lend with interest and thus trigger the
economic growth. William II continued his father work but apparently increased the taxes. Thus,
the Council, after William II s death, required that his brother, Henry I, abolish all the previous
taxes, fines, especially on marriage and inheritance. Thus, Henry promised that all fines and debts
which were owed to [his] brother [are] remit[ted]. 4 Once again however, Henry II is way more
striking in that matter. He invented two taxes, the scutage that allows a vassal to pay money to the
king instead on his military service, and the aid, a special tax for marriages and knighting
ceremonies. Thus, Henry II went even further and institutionalized the taxes that the Normans

The Pros And Cons Of Rescission In Scottish Law
In Scots law, there are generally two available self help remedies for material breach: retention and
rescission. Retention is the suspension of the innocent party s obligations (MacQueen, 2010) while
rescission is the termination of the contract for fundamental non performance; it is a remedy used
to bring a contract to an end so the party is no longer bound to carry out its obligations (Scottish
Law Commission, 2017).
The default position for termination of a contract is for the breach to be material (Turnbull v
MacLean Co, 1873). Without contractual expressions, the term material represents a situation in
which the debtor s activity undermines the basic purpose of the contract to such an extent as to
justify bringing the contract to an end (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). Turning a non material
breach to a material breach can be done through an ultimatum procedure or a summary declaratory
procedure (McBryde, The Scots Law of Breach of Contract: A Mixed System in Operation, 2010).
However, contracting parties can also treat breach as material when expressly provided, even if
objectively the effect of that breach is unimportant. This is interpreted in Wade v Waldon, where the
Lord President sets the criteria for rescission as a matter about the terms of the contract whether
stipulations go to the root of the contract , than the breach itself (Wade v Waldon, 1909 ).
This interpretation illustrates the first problem of the term material when justifying

The Era Of The Renaissance
Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence of great
art. Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are
looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that
were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as
do the artist s whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person s head. During the
sixteenth century things began to change in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This
new style of art brought a revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon ... a
radical reconsideration of art and its purposes... (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to
paint the up and coming style of Baroque.
Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to utilize in order
to even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the phenomenon of natural light,
one point and linear perspective, and highly idealized religious or mythological figures changed
into the Baroque techniques of manipulating light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated
allegory, and unidealized realism. Additionally, ... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name
to the age... [but it was the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its
richness and diversity. (4) Italy, and Romeespecially, is home to what can

Her first point that she makes is that NW takes on things that she takes on different people who
are from different races and have different voices. I believe that this is true because Zadie Smith
has different characters in her book that show different types of people. In her life she also liked
to be around many books and her life changed a lot, which shape the different characters in NW.
Zadie Smith s life is like her character, Felix who used to get in a lot of trouble when he was
young, but now it seems like he has everything together. Zadie Smith in the novel NW, says,
Hollywood had nothing on Felix when it came to imagining the future (Smith 157). This shows
that Felix was just like Zadie Smith. When Zadie Smith like Felix was young did not at all think
about what they were going to do in the future. Zadie Smith wanted to become a actress but she
liked to read. She then became a writer. This kind of shows the opposite of what Smith wanted;
she was into drugs and now she is very successful. Another point that Pes makes is that images of
breaking glass and things going to pieces are supposed to show the coming apart of friendships
and relationships between people in the novel. In the journal Annalisa Pes says, The chaos,
fragmentation and unruliness in which all the characters of NW live are also suggested by
metaphorical devices: images of objects breaking, glasses splintering, dishes going to pieces are
juxtaposed to scenes of human

In contrary to the secular or capitalist worldview stands the religious or spiritual worldview. It

In fact, the spiritual worldview does not necessarily reject logical reasoning in human

Organization An organization is an arrangement of people, pursuing common goals, achieving
results and standards of performance. There are many different types of organisations that are
set up to serve a number of different purposes and to meet a variety of needs. They come in all
forms, shapes and size. Size can be measured in many ways, for example, the numbers of staff,
number of branches sales revenue each year, number of customers and market share. So there
are large, medium and small businesses. The type of activities which individual businesses are
involved in varies depending upon their product. There are three levels of economic activity.
They are primary sector, secondary sector and tertiary sector. Organisation can be categorized by

Spiritual Development and the ethos of a church school Activities should take place within the
life and work of a church school which: provide a safe and secure environment in which all pupils
feel they are valued for the unique contribution each one of them can make; encourage and
promote participation in the life of the school in ways that contribute to the well being of
everyone; ensure that pupils can express their beliefs, experiences, insights and feelings without a
fear of ridicule, knowing that their ideas matter and are taken seriously; respect the rights of pupils
who do not wish to discuss personal or sensitive issues and enable pupils to share what they have in
common and to celebrate their differences. Spiritual Development across the curriculum In a
church school, it is important there is evidence of spiritual development across the curriculum and
that every curriculum area includes some aims and objectives which make spiritual development
more explicit in the teaching and learning process. The following are some examples: to develop
the pupils capacity for critical and independent thought to foster the emotional life of individual
pupils, particularly with regard

Savannah State University Research Paper
Savannah state university visitation rules states that overnight visitors of the opposite sex are
prohibited. The visitation rules also state that visitation hours are from 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. during
the week and from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. during the weekends. When I first got to savannah state
during the week of welcome in the sessions that were held for the freshmen we were told that we
are adults now and it was time for us to start acting as responsible adults. We were also told that
our parents wouldn t be here to baby us, to tell us what to do, or what time to get up for classes. I
understand that the universityhas to have rules and regulations. However, what I don t agree with
is how are we supposed to act like adults when we are still being treated as children. I personally
don t feel as though we should have rules and limitations on who can come visit us, or what times
they can come and go. We should have an open campus as far as visitation goes, but to a certain
extent. The reason why I say to a certain extent is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of us are 18 and older; which means that we are legal and considered to be grown adults, if we
wanted to we could go and buy our own living space without anyone telling us who we can have
come spend the night or what times they can come and go especially when we are paying to stay
there just as we would if we purchased our own living space. If we had purchased our own place to
stay wherever that would be I m sure that there will be rules that we would have to abide by as
well, which is fine but if we didn t abide by those rules we would most likely be kicked out and
that s how our campus visitation rules should be regulated. Also if the school can trust the upper
classmen housing with no visitation limitations then they should at least try to trust the freshmen
housing with no limitations on

The Odyssey And Wonder Woman
Representation of Women
In the book The Odyssey and the movie Wonder Woman there are different portrayals and
viewpoints on how women are treated and represented in their society. In The Odyssey women
are seen as either a Goddess, wife, mother, or seductress. They are characterized as weak and
dependent on men. All of the women in the book are seen either helping or delaying Odysseus
journey back home to Ithaca. In Wonder Woman women are characterized as strong and
independant. There is an island called Themyscira that is inhabited by female warriors called
amazons. These two works have similar yet different viewpoints on women and their roles in
society.
In both The Odyssey and Wonder Woman there are Goddesses. We have Athena
, Goddess of
Wisdom and warfare in, The Odyssey, and Diana, the princess of Themyscira, in Wonder Woman.
Throughout the book Athena is a strong warrior, but the only times she is mentioned is when she
is helping Odysseus. At the beginning of the book Athena is seen persuading the other Gods to
let Odysseus travel back home, and for the rest of the book she is helping his son, Telemachus,
and Odysseus himself. Athena goes to Odysseus house disguised as a man to help his son take
back control of the house from all of the suitors wanting to marry his mother. Athena also helps
Odysseus plot the slaughter of the suitors (Homer 315). Without Athena s help it is likely that
Odysseus would have never made it back home safely to his wife and son. Athena

Why I Am Watching Tv
Sixteen Years, Sixteen Days, and the Rest of my Life On August 12, 2014 I was watching TV in
the morning before heading over to my grandparents house for breakfast. The news was on with
a headline at the bottom of the screen which began with the word Ebola , but I could see was
bola. Every once in a while, a flash of the E would enter my vision, but it did not stay in there for
more than a second. Wondering what was going on I looked around the room, but nothing looked
out of place, the only problem with my vision was when I looked at the TV. After a short amount
of time this strange obstruction to my vision went away and as soon as my father and brother we
went over to my grandparents house. Every Tuesday, we would have... Show more content on

Our job for the day was to prune Fire Blight from some of the Ginger Gold apple trees. Just as I
walked up to the first tree, the pain in my head became unbearable. I told my father that it felt
like I was standing on top of my head. One option was to go to the Emergency Room, but I opted
to go to my regular doctor instead so my father made an appointment for me at ten o clock. When
my father called, he was instructed to give me some medicine to relieve my headache and to
have me drink some water. After taking some medicine and drinking some water, I went over to
my grandmother s office so she could keep an eye on my symptoms. Usually rest helps to relieve
my headaches so I laid my head down to rest, but doing so only made the pain worse. My father
stopped in the office to check on me before going back out to work when I told him that I could
not wait until ten o clock. We went to the ER, but before we left I began to feel nauseous. Once
we arrived at the ER we signed in and we were brought to a room where I was given some
medicine to relieve my nausea. A nurse came in who asked questions about how I was feeling or
what symptoms I had had and came to the conclusion that I had a migraine with aura, but just to
be safe she decided to do a CT scan. After the CT scan the nurse came back in to tell us that I had
a cyst in my brain, but that that was normal for children about my age. The nurse

Criticism Of My Hero Anime
Anime has steadily gained popularity over the years in America. Some viewers tuning into their
favorites as faithfully as some would Game of Thrones or The Handmaid s Tale. One of the more
popular series to air this season was Boku no Hero Academia or My Hero Academia. This
superhero anime has drawn the attention of thousands with compelling characters and a captivating
plot. My HeroAcademia stands out among others because the main protagonistbecomes a
compelling and realistic role model for the younger target audience. My Hero academia focuses
on superheroes and their special powers. The main character, a young boy named Izuku
Midoria, is born quirkless. This means he born without superpowers. In the first episodes, he is
attempting to apply to U.A Highschool. This prestigious school focuses on training heroes, as
well as supporters and other fields associated with hero work. Our young hero meets All might,
the symbol of peace and number one hero, who trains him and passes on the quirk One for All to
Midoria. The series then focuses on Midoria s school life at U.A as well as his growth as a hero
with his newly acquired quirk. Midoria is bullied for being a part of the 20% of the population
who do not have a quirk, as seen in the first two episodes of the series. According to
stopbullying.org, about 28% of U.S students in grades 6 12 have experienced some sort of
bullying. Midoria offers a relatable character around the same age as the target audience.

The Transportation Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fraud is a pervasive and omnipresent threat in the modern business environment. While the controls
to help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which
employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem
more at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them.
One industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation
Industry. Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate
business risk, the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences.

An example is an airlines heavy reliance on real time systems to book flights, manage flights, and
make sure planes aren t flying into each other in mid air (McMahon, 2014).
The airline industry has recently been focusing inwardly on revenue growth, yield management, and
balance sheet strength. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it
comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective
security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated
to these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public
transport recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty
meeting this demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes
with roads for investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time
to deliver (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). The shipping subsector contributes an extreme amount
to global transportation and logistics. It has been historically cyclical with volatility in vessel
values, shareholder returns, and freight rates. The international economic and political environment
also has a large effect on shipping. The business environment is challenging with a few specifics

Jurassic Park Controversy
Jurassic Park, a favored sci fi, action, adventure film in 1993, is about a scientist who extracts
Dyno DNA from mosquitoes preserved in a sticky substance called, Amber. Filled with excitement
and suspense, people may question how such a film was produced. In 1993, films required
specific animation processes, but during that time frame, it was fairly easy to spot the lack of
realism. Jurassic Parkchose to pursue a different direction and not rely on animation completely.
The development of the film, process of dinosaurs, and animation are all key components to
Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park, a science fiction action adventure film, was directed by Steven
Spielberg. But, not all credit can go to Spielberg; originally, a man named Michael Crichton, wrote
the novel Jurassic Park in 1990. Crichton, an American best selling author, physician, producer,
director, and screenwriter, is known for his science fiction and thriller genres. Crichton was then
asked by four studios to have screen rights over his novel, Jurassic Park. After allowing Universal
Studios screen right of Jurassic Park, Crichton received $500,000 dollars in return for the
acceptance. That following year, the filming of Jurassic Park began. Throughout Jurassic Park s
process, Crichton wanted the dinosaurs so realistic that he went... Show more content on

imagery. It is hand drawn animation or stop motion containing several pictures put together to
create movement. CGI was used for the velociraptors, brachiosaurs, and the tyrannosaurus rex.

Lesbian Gay Bisexual And Transgender Rights
The Umbrella Widens To Cover Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Rights
The business world is an ever changing environment; there are new laws, regulations, and tax
codes passed all the time that effect how we do business here in America and abroad. It is
important that we keep abreast on those changing laws to protect our companies as well as the
employees that work for us. The last few years have opened up many hot topics of debate when it
comes to rights being extended to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. There is
no shortage of passion, no matter what side you stand on, when it comes to same sex marriage,
transgender bathroom rights, legalized adoption for same sex couples, and non discrimination laws
being extended to cover LGBT individuals. While all of these seem like topics that should not affect
the workplace drastically, that could not be further from the truth. A new decision by the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Baldwin v. Foxx, extends Title VII s protections
to cover sexual orientation for federal sector employees and may lead the way for courts to
recognize similar protections in the private sector. The EEOC also now maintains that gender
identity is protected by Title VII,2 and some courts have agreed (MuГ±oz and Kalteux, 2016, p.
43). The job of a Human Resource Manager is to keep up on the changing laws, and to make sure
that the company they work for is compliant in upholding them. While women have long

Foreign Exchange Risk Management
REVIEW 1 The survey of foreign currency risk awareness and management practices in Tanzania
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Foreign exchange risk management
Foreign currency exchange risk is the additional riskiness or varience of a firm s cash flows that
may be attributed to currency fluctuations (Giddy, 1977, Brigham and Ehrhardt, 2005). Normally,
foreign currency risk exists in three forms; translation, transaction and economic exposures.
Foreign currency risk management involves taking decisions which aim at minimizing or
eliminating the negative effects of currency fluctuations on balance sheet and income statement
values, a firm s receipts and payments arising out of current transactions, and on long term future
cash flows of a firm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using a unique set of data containing complete foreign currency spot and derivatives positions of
Korean exporting firms, we empirically find that currency position squaring firms have significantly
higher firm value. We also find evidence that these firms time the currency market when they
manage their currency cash position. Meanwhile, firms time the credit market when they determine
the use of foreign currency debts. Strikingly, firms still time the market even when they conduct
derivatives hedging and synthetic hedging. Our findings are consistent with the market timing
theory of capital structure.
The second essay examines what determines banks‟ exposure to foreign currency risks, their
management of these risks, and the relationship to the probability of bank failures. Using a unique
data set of Korean banks with detailed information on their foreign currency risk exposures and
hedging positions, we find that banks‟ foreign currency position mismatches, maturity
mismatches, and debt roll over risks are significantly attributed to their dollar carry lending strategy,
which is stimulated by market timing of corporate firms, short maturity dollar borrowings, real
estate market booms, and dollar interest rate tightening. We also find that banks‟ foreign
currency exposures significantly increase their financial distress likelihood through dollar carry

The White Fang Journal Entry
My First Entry: The White Fang I love the way the author represents the wild life. The wild life
actually seems like our society in some ways. I think that the characters would do anything that
it takes to overcome their problems, just like in our community. For example, I could see how
the wolves were trying to survive and not to die from hunger. Also, it was really impressive how
Henry and Bill tried to protect themselves from the wolves. I was getting curious about how they
thought they were going to get away alive from a pack of forty wolves. It seemed pretty hard to
me. Anyway, I was surprised as how the group remained. The six dogs and Bill got caught by the
wolves and Henry ended up by himself. I thought this was a very good example

Will we ever know about the dangers behind the sweets? A study publicizes the toxic result of the
sugar we consume. This article about the dangers of sugar written by Cameron Keady, has the
description of the true study and how it will affect people s health later on. The fact based article
is a genuine way to inform individuals about the dangers behind the desserts we re eating.
In the article, Danger in Dessert, Cameron Keady describes how researchers proved how sugar is

During the early part of my reading, I questioned why the researchers used mice as a guide to the
result of sugar, then the text later on stated in paragraph three, Scientists often use mice for
research because they have a similar genetic structure to humans. (3) This shows why the
scientists use the mice for their studies. After my reading I made a connection that I wrote
something about how sugar has a huge impact on the life of a human, like it states in the article,
A team of researchers at the University of Utah used mice to conduct a study on the negative
effects of sugar. They found it could have serious effects on people s health. (1) Proving sugar is
not a pleasant thing to give the human body. Also, after my reading of the article I questioned how
toxic is the sweets and the text stated that, Sugar can contribute to long term changes in the body
that can alter development and even shorten lives. (3) Showing that sugar can cause death, weight
gain, and heart issues. After reading the text about, ...equivalent to a healthy human diet along with
three cans of soda daily. (2), I inferred that each week if a human consumes 21 can of soda a week
along with a healthy diet it still can have an impact on the body. After reading the article I drew the
conclusion that most things we eat contain fructose or sucrose can cause health issues but

Students are working parents with school or college going children. These kinds of pressures are the backdrop to a typical student life at ZOU. Time management becomes an interesting challenge to those who do not have an abundance of it. When this high wire balancing act fails to deliver ,a scapegoat has to be found. That is when mitigating excuses are postulated e.g. the lecturers are out of their depth in their specialty areas, modules are outdated etc. The legitimacy or not of these excuses is part of the subject of this study. 1.1)STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Given the above background it is apparent that there is a gap between students expectations and the results from their studies. 1.2)RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: a) To find out the reasons for the low pass rates in management accounting and tax, law and practice. b) To find ways of countering this negative trend and pass our recommendations onto the relevant people. 1.3)RESEARCH QUESTIONS: Basically here we gave out a questionnaire with a grid of possible factors that may or may not affect the students success or failure. • 4. Questions For The Group Discussion Two Questions for the group discussion: Inside a church, a pastor has flipped a verse of the bible to accommodate polygamy. Consulted by a business millionaire, the pastor ransacked the bible and finally arrived at a verse to support the holy matrimony. Quoting Isaiah 4:1 the pastor joined the notable influential member with three women . Does the text Isaiah 4:1 justify the polygamous wedding? During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. The scenario in a sociological dimension prompted the geographical background where the wedding could have happened. It is assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and shockingly among faith communities. The expression that the Pastor flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy , could be inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man s money or that he was afraid of losing his membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church member. However, for charity sake, we do not know the bigger picture of what really happened or what might have moved the pastor to succumb to the risky demand. Sociologically his society allows it otherwise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Owen wants the reader to see the real suffering that war causes by showing the weight of the girls sorrow. Owen ends the poem with, And each slow dusk a drawing down of blinds (14). Owen reinforces the thought of death in the last line with the settling of dust. The closing of the blinds is symbolic, and shows how the people at home keep the realities of war out of their minds. Owen is also showing how people do not take responsibility for their actions. Owen choose to have the blinds close themselve, so no one is to blame for the closing of the blinds. The movies Blood Diamond (2006), directed by Edward Zwick and The Constant Gardener (2005), directed by Fernando Meirelles, both focus mainly on the exploitation of Africa, especially by The West and Europe. By highlight these important issues the movies awaken a sense of awareness in their audiences. In The Constant Gardener , Rachel Weiszwas cast as one of the main Characters; Tessa Quayle. Tessa does however have an extremely secretive side which is one of the conflicts Tessa faces with Justin. By keeping part of her life a secret, she prevents Justin from fully understanding her, which leads to miscommunication and ultimately a breach of trust as Justin suspects that Tessa is having an... In adolescent Suicide deaths are more prevalent than homicide deaths (CDC, 2012). According to the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Web based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS), suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents age 13 to 17 (CDC, 2016). That number surpasses the number of deaths due to chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV, and diabetes. While this is a significant number, not all suicide attempts are reported (Joiner, 2005). Shneidman s theory of psychache argues suicide is caused by a certain kind of psychological pain. Risk factors increases psychache which leads an individual to suicidality (Shneidman, 1993). The pain is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide. Baumeister s escape theory of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals perception of expectations and actual events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness develops, (individual focuses on negative aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an attempt to escape the effects from the first two steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control. These theories focus more on the emotional and psychological aspect of suicide. They seem to identify what causes the suicide ideation. However, it does not explain how one goes from emotion to action. Just because someone has thought about suicide, does not mean they will attempt suicide, they need to have the acquired capability (lack of fear of dying) in order to attempt suicide (Joiner, 2005, Van Orden et al.,). Suicide is a very difficult act, it requires you to go against the self preservation you have been programmed with (Ohman Mineka, 2001). George, Page, Hooke, Stritzke, (2016) tested the ... The Vancouver based developer who purchased the site revealed their hopes of using the space to build a 1000 unit rental project there, including parks, public squares and childcare facilities. To commemorate its vibrant history, the TTC has give Bathurst station a makeover, replacing all the signs with hand written ones, and covering the walls with cheeky statements that would make Ed Mirvish proud such as Been there Dundas. The installation is said to last until the end of this year but there is some discussion as to making it permanent. A Rose For Emily And A Good Man Is Hard Lucas Gray English Literature 7/8/2015 Daniel Hitt Analysis Paper 1 A Rose for Emily and A Good Man is Hard to Find The writing style of southern gothic uses many different techniques such as macabre, ironic events that look at the values of the south. Two writers that are famous for the southern gothic style are William Faulkner and Flannery O Conner. Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily, depicts a well rounded woman who is discovered to have a rotting corpse of her husband in her bedroom, and O Conner s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , that shows a southern family s death at the hand of a ruthless murderer are both extremely good examples of southern gothic story. While both of these great writers use southern gothic style they both still use it to demonstrate very different aspects of southern culture. By comparing and contrasting these two great southern gothic style writers you will be able to see just how different an author can write a story that still have the same style of writing just by using a few different techniques. I will focus more on the how the works achieve their effect, their insight into a human problem, their presentation of emotion and consciousness, and their giving the reader pleasure. The single most important aspect that defines southern gothic writing is the use of macabre, or malformed, events. These distinguished events are easy identified in both of these short stories. Williams argued, According to 2013 census data, nine states California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan have populations that total roughly 160 million, slightly more than half the U.S. population. It is conceivable that just nine states could determine the presidency in a popular vote (Williams). Consequently, without the Electoral College, nine states can possibly determine the results of an election. Those that support the Electoral College think that electionsshould be by state instead of a vote per person. The Electoral College can keep unqualified candidates from winning an election and therefore, become president. Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States. American Conquest Research Paper According to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle on William I, the first Norman king was a very wise and great man, and more honored and more powerful than any of his predecessors , but he also caused castles to be built and oppressed the poor. 1 The portrait of William the Conqueror is very conflicted, especially in this source since it was written from an Anglo Saxon perspective, or, in other words, from the perspective of the loser side of the 1066 Hastings battle. If the Norman Conquest had any impact on England, it can certainly be expressed in terms of changes in the political balance of power. I will argue, however, that the Norman Conquest did not radically change England, at least not on every aspect, but certainly opened the way for deeper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, William brought new incomes with his new lands, even if it still seems less important to the huge Angevin empire of Henry II, that also included Aquitaine, Maine and Anjou. There was also a decrease in land value, especially in the North after their two revolts against the king, which led to the systematical destruction of the countryside by William I, to make sure that no army could ever be raised from here. However, William also had a positive impact on the English economy, since he developped the trade with the Continent, expanded the cities and encouraged urbanization and the settlement of Jews, who could lend with interest and thus trigger the economic growth. William II continued his father work but apparently increased the taxes. Thus, the Council, after William II s death, required that his brother, Henry I, abolish all the previous taxes, fines, especially on marriage and inheritance. Thus, Henry promised that all fines and debts which were owed to [his] brother [are] remit[ted]. 4 Once again however, Henry II is way more striking in that matter. He invented two taxes, the scutage that allows a vassal to pay money to the king instead on his military service, and the aid, a special tax for marriages and knighting ceremonies. Thus, Henry II went even further and institutionalized the taxes that the Normans previously unformely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Pros And Cons Of Rescission In Scottish Law In Scots law, there are generally two available self help remedies for material breach: retention and rescission. Retention is the suspension of the innocent party s obligations (MacQueen, 2010) while rescission is the termination of the contract for fundamental non performance; it is a remedy used to bring a contract to an end so the party is no longer bound to carry out its obligations (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). The default position for termination of a contract is for the breach to be material (Turnbull v MacLean Co, 1873). Without contractual expressions, the term material represents a situation in which the debtor s activity undermines the basic purpose of the contract to such an extent as to justify bringing the contract to an end (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). Turning a non material breach to a material breach can be done through an ultimatum procedure or a summary declaratory procedure (McBryde, The Scots Law of Breach of Contract: A Mixed System in Operation, 2010). However, contracting parties can also treat breach as material when expressly provided, even if objectively the effect of that breach is unimportant. This is interpreted in Wade v Waldon, where the Lord President sets the criteria for rescission as a matter about the terms of the contract whether stipulations go to the root of the contract , than the breach itself (Wade v Waldon, 1909 ). This interpretation illustrates the first problem of the term material when justifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as do the artist s whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person s head. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her first point that she makes is that NW takes on things that she takes on different people who are from different races and have different voices. I believe that this is true because Zadie Smith has different characters in her book that show different types of people. In her life she also liked to be around many books and her life changed a lot, which shape the different characters in NW. Zadie Smith s life is like her character, Felix who used to get in a lot of trouble when he was young, but now it seems like he has everything together. Zadie Smith in the novel NW, says, Hollywood had nothing on Felix when it came to imagining the future (Smith 157). This shows that Felix was just like Zadie Smith. When Zadie Smith like Felix was young did not at all think about what they were going to do in the future. Zadie Smith wanted to become a actress but she liked to read. She then became a writer. This kind of shows the opposite of what Smith wanted; she was into drugs and now she is very successful. Another point that Pes makes is that images of breaking glass and things going to pieces are supposed to show the coming apart of friendships and relationships between people in the novel. In the journal Annalisa Pes says, The chaos, fragmentation and unruliness in which all the characters of NW live are also suggested by metaphorical devices: images of objects breaking, glasses splintering, dishes going to pieces are juxtaposed to scenes of human ... Normally, foreign currency risk exists in three forms; translation, transaction and economic exposures. Strikingly, firms still time the market even when they conduct derivatives hedging and synthetic hedging. Our findings are consistent with the market timing theory of capital structure.
