Adverse Selection Research Paper
Adverse selection Individuals who are sick are more likely to purchase health insurance than healthy
people. This sicker population might utilize a significant amount of healthcare services. In order to
cater to this demand insurance companies will resort to raising the premiums, dissuading healthy
people from buying insurance. As the pool of people covered by insurance becomes sicker it continues
to drive up costs leading to a vicious cycle where each year fewer and fewer healthy individuals obtain
insurance. This process is called adverse selection. By implementing the individual mandate, we
introduce healthy people into the insurance pool. The healthy individuals mitigate the cost of sicker
individuals. As a result of requiring people

Concealed Handguns
I think concealed handguns should be legal in public with the right background/ history. First of all, if
a crook thinks or knows that the soon to be victim has a gun the crook will back off and that person
will not become a victim. An FBI study in 2000 showed that murders went down 8.5%, rapes by 5%,
aggravated assault by 7%, and robbery by 3% in states with shall issue for concealed handguns. This
means that crime rates in aggravated assault, burglary, murder and rape will go down drastically
across the us. Sure there might be a downside like Someone might have a concealed permit with there
gun and they are desperate for money. They will do anything for money like killing. Well if that
person were any smarter they would have sold the

The Effects Of Water On The Body Weight
Water is about 60% of the adult human body weight. The relative importance of water is readily
apparent through the role it plays in various systems of the body. The popular notion, therefore, exists
that one must drink eight 8 oz glasses of water, which amounts to about 2 L, per day. Currently, the
Institute of Medicine states that the total beverage intake for men should be about 13 cups or 3 L and
for women 9 cups or 2.2 L ( Water: How Much... ). The right amount of water one should drink each
day ultimately depends on a number of factors, such as where one lives, the amount of activity, and
personal health. My average daily water intake is less than the recommended amount of 2 3 L, which
affects the physiological functions of my cardiovascular and renal systems. A low water intake affects
the healthy functioning of the cardiovascular system. The decrease in effective circulating volume, or
the extracellular fluid in the blood vessels that perfuse the tissues, decreases end diastolic volume that
is not compensated for by the end systolic volume, which exhibits a smaller decline. As a result, the
stroke volume decreases because the left ventricle does not fill up as much with blood. The large
reduction in end diastolic volume and stroke volume is mainly a result of the decrease in venous return
due to the reduced amount of fluid circulating in the body (Stohr et al. 894). This leads to a reduction
in arterial and atrial pressure, which decreases the stretch of the blood

shoes contain rubber ( 25 percent of shoe) not of US origin because rubber is not grown in the United

the United State by the US workers out of all US parts except for rubber, which is impossible to

percent US parts and labor. But labor unions, consumer groups and 150 members of congress attacked
the ruling saying it made the label deceptive because it should mean 100 percent US content. Darlene

St. Jones By Synecdoche
Throughout Literature the reader often finds themselves thrust into the world of its author, this world
relies heavily upon imagery to assist in the formation of this world. In saying this, however, a
significant amount of this literary world derived from text is lost due to it being written from the point
of view of the recorder, this is even more true in regards to history. Narrowing down the notion of
historical point of view, the reader must often times seek out information from both sides to get a pure
account of the past and are scarcely ever given a completely unbiased historical account due to the
primary ascender being given free reign as to what will be recorded. This idea of the victorious being

Lucia, is the concept that areas having seen poverty and hardship do not tend to rise, heal, and grow
from the past without there being some kind of force behind it but instead these areas often take a
more dramatic and less sought after turn. These echos of past pain become places wrought with
violence, corruption, and crime which leave behind any hope for a better future but instead give way
to a great fall. Using synecdoche the reader is able to vividly see the downward spiral of the people of
St. Lucia He warched a falling star singe the arc of its zone and traced the comet as its declining
vector hissed out like a coal in the horizon s basin. using a falling star to describe the way in which the
people of the island are progressively getting worse is not only a beautiful way to describe an ascent
from a once previously higher place into what now seems like chaos but also because the use of
synecdoche is still engrained here in the text because a comet was at one point a falling star but has
now passed into earth s atmosphere. The use of falling star could also assist in the idea that at as the
people of the island further descend into difficult times they begin to become more chaotic until the
comet or in this case people reach their lowest

What is Capital Punishment?
Capital Punishment is punishing someone with a death penalty after he/she commits a crime that falls
under the Capital Punishment term.

5. No sharing private space with opposite sex.
Any male may not be allowed to share private space with an opposite sex unless and until they both
are married. If you re in university and are advised to share a room with an opposite sex, that may be
tolerated but in a limit. If any punishment has to be given it depends on the situation.
6. No indecent clothing.
Another way people may effect the UAE decency law is by putting on indecent clothing. Summer may
want you to wear the most exotic clothing but you have to try to stay away from it. If you re in public
places and you re wearing a skirt or shorts, they need to be at the appropriate length. However rules on
the beaches are much more lenient. Swimwear is accepted but should be appropriate. Top less sun

Serfdom In Russia
In Russia, serfdom was a system under which the peasants were theoretically free tenants, but were
actually in a state of vassalage to, and dependence on, the landowners. Some people condemn
feudalism, stating that it was a corrupt system of labor as it exploited serfs, but without the use of the
serfs the entire economy of Europe would have suffered. Serfs were the foundation of the economic
system because they provided labor and goods to the entire kingdom. Serfdom influenced the Russian
way of life and culture. The actual system set up in place for serfs goes more in depth than just
peasants working the property. The eventual emancipation of the serfs came about in March of 1861,
in the Emancipation Manifesto issued by Russian emperor Alexander ... Show more content on

Serfdom in Europe can be drawn back to the 11th century. This type of feudalism traversed throughout
Europe, decreasing in Western Europe around the 14th century with the Renaissance but growing in
Central and Eastern Europe, a spectacle sometimes known as later serfdom . Serfs were lawfully
required to dwell and toil at one place and to work on the land possessed by their lord, who may
perhaps be a nobleman or an ecclesial dignitary. They could also be serfs of the state, working for the
regime or in an institution such as a monastery. They were allocated a small area of land to cultivate to
support themselves and their families, but had to make payments in produce and money to the lord
from their own earnings. Social establishments closely alike to serfdom were known in ancient times.
The position of the Helots in the primeval Greek city state of Sparta resembled that of feudal serfs, as
did the state of the peasant working on government lands in primordial Rome. Serfdom was legally a
subservient or unfree status that involved dependency upon a lord, significantly limited freedom of
action in terms of livelihood and residence, and subjugation to duties considered marks of servility.
They could inherit, own, and bequeath property. The lord s rights over their labor were restricted by
local custom and tradition. The Russian Law Code of 1649 was promulgated by Tsar

Food, People Will Die
Without food, people will die. Either they do not have the means to buy food or they live in a place
where food and vegetation are scarce and not readily available to the public. In any case, food remains
a necessity all living creatures must have. Thanks to modern technology and advancements in all
fields of agricultural business (agri business), the availability of food has increased tremendously.
Modern farmers put in the same amount of work and effort for twice the reward. Wendell Berry, a man
who grew up during the transition of old farming style and new farming style, noticed the transition
from mules to tractors and the efficiency that came with the switch. Berry wrote an article titled
Renewing Husbandry ; in his article, Berry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those people who live in these conditions can have better diets and live healthier because of agri
business. The transformation from traditional farming to agri business became rapidly accepted by all
types of farmers because of the mass benefits agri business provides. Berry noticed this transformation
by stating, This transformation occurred with astonishing speed because, by the measures it set for
itself, it was wonderfully successful. It saved labor (Berry, 2005, para. 4). This transformation
increased the speed of farms. This means the increased speed also decreased the work effort; which
allows farmers to do twice as much work without increasing the effort. The transition from traditional
farming to agri business has increased the production load to where agri business can support the
needs of the world.
Agri business fulfills the needs of the world. Farmers can mass produce their products in a timely
manner, granting them the ability to provide food for the world. With every year, agri business grows
to keep up with the demand. Berry stated; [T]he tractor would stay and the mules would go. Year after
year, agriculture would be adopted more and more to the technology and the processes of industry and
to the rule of industrial economics (Berry, 2005, para. 4). The world constantly changes and adapts.
Agri business changes and adapts to the changes of the world because the main goal of agri business is
to provide food for the world for people to

Evaluation Of A Blood Test
Patient 2 was a 65 year old female who had arrived with her blood test request form for a coagulation
screen, which includes INR (prothrombin time), APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time) and
fibrinogen. A prothrombin test measures how long it takes for blood to clot, or, coagulate. APTT is a
screening test done which evaluates the function of a patient s intrinsic clotting system, the factors of
prothrombin and fibrinogen that are involved, as well as prekallikrein (PK) and high molecular weight
kininogen (HK). Additionally, Patient 2 s heparin anticoagulant therapy needed to be monitored;
heparin being an anticoagulant which is administered intravenously or by injection in order to treat
blood clots. A single CITRATE tube of the colour light blue was used for the patient s blood
collection; this tube contains sodium citrate as an anticoagulant and is used for drawing blood for the
purpose of coagulation studies.
Blood collection procedures begin with the health practitioners, for example doctors, generating a
blood test request form during a patient s visit. The request form contains important information
regarding the patient, their doctor and the tests required. In terms of the patient information, details
include; registered family name and given names, their gender, contact details, address, date of birth
and NHI (national health index) number. Additionally, particular request forms can include vital
clinical details about a patient s medical history or any

How Did Emperor Muthito Change Japan
Emperor Mutsuhito, also known as Emperor Meiji, was born in Japan and eventually became an
emperor there. The period in which he ruled was referred to as the Meiji Era, which means
enlightened peace . During this time, he made many decisions that worked to reverse the last two
centuries of Japan isolation. This included the elimination of feudalism and the establishment of a
more centralized government. For example, in 1889, the emperor established a new constitution
modeled after several European nations. He also changed education to focus more on math and
science, instead of Japanese culture. Although several groups resented these decisions, Emperor
Mutsuhito s decisions helped Japan to grow and become more successful. Another ruler, Kemal ...

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
A piece a cake, this is a phrase commonly used unlike the phrase so it goes. In the novel
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut the phrase so it goes is used 106 times. This three worded
phrase does not seem like it has more meaning than the four worded phrase, a piece a cake, but it
actually plays an important part in the novel. The phrase so it goes is specifically used after a person
has died in the book, which occurs frequently. Vonnegut uses this phrase to demonstrate that whatever
happens in life happens and so it goes. Kurt Vonnegut starts off with the main character, Billy Pilgrim,
trying to find a meaning in this war world because he finds life meaningless. Tralfamadorians however

Encryption Vs. Encryption Algorithm
D
The message to be stored in the database is converted to cipher text using encryption algorithm and
key. The resulting cipher text is then saved in database. When the user needs to get the actual message,
he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are generated
in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the
choice of encryption algorithm, key size and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria
goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data.
There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms
and through Hashing. Different encryptions based on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128,
AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value using hash
function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared
with the encrypted password stored in the database. If the result varies, then an invalid
username/password is entered. Hash functions commonly in use are MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA 1[13].

The common bile duct originates in the liver and the gallbladder and produces another important
digestive juice called bile. The pancreatic juices and bile that are released into the duodenum, help the
body to digest fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Endocrine Function: The endocrine component of the
pancreas consists of islet cells that create and release important hormones directly into the
bloodstream. Two of the main pancreatic hormones are insulin, which acts to lower blood sugar, and
glucagon, which acts to raise blood sugar. Maintaining proper blood sugar levels is crucial to the
functioning of key organs including the brain, liver, and kidneys.

Biography Of Frederick Douglas s Role Models For Business...
Success is, in many ways, a branch of perspective, and yet societal norms seem to dictate what many
view as success. Through my personal experience, and through the reading of Frederick Douglas I
believe that the idea of personal success in correlation with perspective is a subject worthy of debate.
Dissecting the difference of what many view as success and what may actually be success is essential
for growth personally, and for people collectively. For example; currently many in our society view
success as the acquisition of a copious monetary status, usually preceded, or followed by recognition
for actions, ideas, etc... whether or not one views these actions or ideas worthy of widespread
recognition(IE, success of socialites who may have not actually contributed to their own success).
Many would believe that figures such as Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, who are viewed as
successful women, are successful based on who they are, instead of what they ve done, while others
believe these women are role models for business and personal marketing in the 21st century. I myself
believe that success is not based on how any group views you, but on how you view yourself, and
measure your own success; based on where you started in life, your goals, and your level of pride in
your actions. It is my sentiment that we should discuss the topic of what success means to the
individual, and not to the collective. A discussion of this perspective, I subscribe would allow for all
people to

Cheesecake Factory Structure
Intro
The organizational structures within a company can be the determining factor if a business can run
efficiently or run chaotically into ruin. The organizational structure is the different hierarchy s and
arrangement of authority, roles and duties in an organization. The Cheesecake factory has a very
effective organizational structure which allows for its operations to run smoothly and enables the
Cheesecake factory to be one of the highest earning restaurant chains. The structure contains three
main levels. The first and highest level is the board of directors which contains 7 members, including
the CEO David Overton and 6 directors. The next level of hierarchy called N 1 contains 7 levels
including the CFO, President, Area Operations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down. However it
is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level director. This
succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently. Each location
manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is well qualified to
look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep
their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels.
The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at
Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them
claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the
employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills
with employees. Another overarching theme was the inconsistent breaks because they are up to the
discretion of the manager. My recommendation would be to invest more in the employees and the
directors that are above the general managers to make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote
company values more and participative leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and
beyond and focus on team building as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they
even said themselves that the success of the business is due to happy employees. Our future growth
and financial success will be highly dependent on our ability to attract, develop and retain qualified
staff members who are capable of successfully managing upscale, high volume casual dining

Investigating The Osmotic Regulation On The Kidney
The purpose of the experiment is to test the fluid balance in the body, by studying the osmotic
regulation in the kidney (Manuguid, et al., 2015) Also, test the changes in urine pH, urine flow rate
and specific density among non drinking and drinking groups.
The main purpose of avoiding food and drink prior to the lab was to eliminate the effects that could
occur in the class data, reduce the amount of error and to get a fair result by having everyone start at
the same time. If each student did not monitor or follow the correct procedure, this would have
affected the result by having a lot differences in the rate of urine flow, urine density and the pH level.
Therefore, we wouldn t have an accurate results to make any kind of conclusion out of it and we will
have a result in a wide range. All the groups drank according to their weight and this affected the
result in terms of their osmolarity, hormone secretion, and urine flow rate because all the groups
ingested different amount of the drinks. Based on the result from table 1, the physiological state of the
subjects at T0 was negative for blood, ketone, glucose and protein. In figures 1 4, all of the subjects
pH level was about 6; urine volume rate and urine voided is about the same amount for all the groups.
There were changes in the variables between T0 and T30 because at T0, we started with no drinks and
we saw that the non drinking group and drinking groups had about the same level of the urine flow
rate at T=0. At

Analysis Of The Wild West
Western Identity The Wild West, in American history, is often thought of as being an ideology filled
with adventure and happy endings. This picture of the Wild West is largely in place due to the
romanticizing of the West by Hollywood. Movies portraying the West are filled with stereotypes,
whether they are purposeful or not, that do not accurately show what defines the Western persona.
Stereotypical situations such as Indians being depicted as savages and noble sheriffs saving the day
leave out certain facts that defined the Wild West. Many Indians were betrayed and slaughtered by
American citizens in the Wild West, as shown throughout Dee Brown s novel, Bury My Heart at

To many miners, days seemed like years and months like decades. In addition to hardship in mining,
many Americans on the frontier experienced challenges in farming. At first it was difficult for
Americans to grow crops in the West, but eventually technology of agriculture was able to give
Americans the ability to grow crops more efficiently. Wild West was full of trials, and living in it was
certainly not an easy task. It is impossible to write about hardship in the Wild West without talking
about the hardship that Native Americans faced. The war on Indians by the United States government
focused on relocating all Native Americans to reservations so that Americans could settle in more
lands. For this reason, many Native Americans undoubtedly fought back against the United States
government. This led to violence and the slaughtering of Indians for which the Wild West is known.
One famous event concerning the Indian Wars was the Wounded Knee Massacre. Dee Brown
described this event in her novel, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, saying that the United States 7th
Cavalry Regiment opened up on them, firing almost a shell a second, raking the Indian camp,
shredding the teepees with flying shrapnel, killing men, women, and children. According to Brown,
[o]ne estimate placed the final total of dead at very nearly three hundred of the original 350 men,
women, and children.

Mountain O Thing Analysis
Many people from different country came to United states for the land of opportunity . That is why
massive of Immigrants migrate here to America for a better opportunities like financing, work,

Ghetto village people have to suffer in their living environment with not enough foods and money.
The song Village Ghetto land by Stevie Wonder mentioned, Politicians laugh and drink drunk to all
demands. This indicates how Politicians are having the time of their life while the people that live in
Ghetto land suffered from a hard time. Wonder also stated in his song about how Beggars watch and
eat their meal from the garbage can and Starvation roam the streets. American is highly led by politics

basically rule the nation. However, when the politic isn t doing a good job in helping the people, it can

Alcoholism In Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn
Alcoholism is a very unique addiction in today s society. It is unique because those who are affected
are addicted to substance that is legal at a certain age and has low governmental regulations pertaining
to its use. The idea of alcoholism was prevalent in many works in the pre prohibition era. One of those
was Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Huckleberry Finn follows as a sequel to the adventures of Tom
Sawyer with a different protagonist by the name of Huck Finn. Throughout the story, he goes on a life
changing adventure that changes the way he views life. One of the many themes in this story is
alcoholism and the impact it has on the characters of the story. The reason for Twain including aspects
of alcoholism is to raise awareness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to American Addiction Centers, alcoholism causes a person to face problems in their life,
from their work to their home, and they cannot control their drinking (3). They also experience
withdrawal symptoms when they do not drink (3). Twain mentions this physiological effect in
Huckleberry Finn, referring to it as delirium tremens. Delirium tremens is a severe form of alcohol
withdrawal that results in sudden mental or nervous system changes(4). Pap, the father of the
protagonist, is one of the characters that reveal their alcohol addiction. Pap is the abusive, racist, and
ignorant character that constantly drinks and revolves his life around alcohol. In the story, Huck
describes a psychotic episode that Pap experiences. He chased me round and round the place with a
clasp knife, calling me the Angel of Death, and saying he would kill me... (5). Twain writes about one
of the dangers of alcoholism being the withdrawal symptoms that an alcoholic experiences. The
human body and mind is not in its natural state and alcohol is the reason for that. One can see that this
can happen and delirium tremens is a legitimate medical condition. This part of the story highlights
the danger that Huck encountered due to Pap s drinking. He was chased around by his father who
thought he was an Angel of Death. There are other signs and symptoms of alcoholism in Huckleberry
Finn that Twain touches

Dealing with Conflicts in the Workplace
Conflict Management Styles
Conflict occurs in organizations whenever a difference of opinions exists. People disagree over many
things including but not limited to, policies and procedures, the overall direction of the company, and
distribution of rewards. This type of conflict is substantive conflict, as described in our reading text
organizational behavior as a, fundamental disagreement over ends or goals to be pursued . The second
type of conflict is emotional conflict; which involves, interpersonal difficulties that arise over feelings
of anger, mistrust, dislike, fear, resentment, and the like. This type of conflict occurs when two or
more persons do not see eye to eye or simply do not get along for whatever reason. I cannot ... Show

In our company many of the technicians have never been anything other than the technician. They
have never experienced what it is like to be the customer depending on someone else for technological
knowledge and expertise. I try to get my employees to place themselves in the shoes of the customer
and treat them, as they would expect to be treated. This works both ways; I have never been a
technician and do not understand a lot of the problems and frustrations that they experience. So in
turn, we share our thoughts, our experiences and our ideas on how we can make our organization a
more profitable one. We each realize our limitations and together strive for the common goals of the
organization. Another one of my particular strengths is my ability to perceive conflict in situations
before and as they arise. I can sense that if we are to implement a particular policy and/or procedure
how my staff will react to it. This helps us to plan ways to eliminate conflict before it even begins.
Conflict is inevitable when diverse people from different circumstances and backgrounds work
together. Everyone had different visions and ideas as to how various situations should be dealt with. If
conflict is not managed in an appropriate manner it can become time consuming and a waste of
management resources. By acknowledging this and dealing with conflict in a forthright and
straightforward manner, conflict can

Plan of Investigation
While watching National Hockey League (NHL) games, I often heard the play by play announcer
mention at the start of the third and final period how it would be tough for a team to come back from a
one goal deficit. This led me to wonder just how difficult it was mathematically, and how much
previous periods affected the final one. In this project, I will investigate whether the scores at the end
of the first period affect the final score of NHL games.
I will gather the scores of 200 hockey games between 2005 2008 from the nhl.com website. I chose
these years because the type of hockey before and after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is

The trendline, known as the line of best fit or the least squares regression line, shows the linear
equation which best explains the sums up the data s trend. The formula on the right is the formula of
the line of best fit.
As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger
range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter
plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that
teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer
points than teams who win.
If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning
team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team
A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still
larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well.
Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third
period with five or six goals. However, when Team B scores one goal in the first period, the most
goals they ended up with is only four. This pattern is repeated when the teams score two goals in the
first period. With Team A, there are instance(s) when they end up with seven; with

The United States And Health Care
Early in American history, there was a push for a universal health care plan but the politicians of the
day would never allow the federal government that type of power and control. At his time in American
history healthcare was thought to be a personal issue or at least an issue that would be left to the states
or even smaller government agencies. After World War II many politicians tried and failed to pass a
national healthcare plan until Obama Care was passed and forced on the people of the United States.
The reality is that Obama care is not even a health insurance plan it just regulates health insurance and
forces every citizen to purchase health insurance even if they don t want to. This paper will show how
the United States and health care went from an individual personal rights issue and worked its way
from nothing to several different health care plans and finally arriving at Obama Care. Although
Obama Care will always be up for debate, since America is always looking for a new and improved
health care plan, this will show why the Affordable Care Act is not the best plan for America.
Obamacare is based on the idea that the young and the healthy will purchase insurance plans.
Obamacare needs these people that in the past have not typically purchased health insurance to cover
the costs of the guarantees that everyone can get health insurance and the promise to lower the
premiums the poor or disabled will have to pay. Obama Care will not work due to the fact that it

The Hunger Of World Hunger
World Hunger
Imagine not being able to reach into your refrigerator and pull out a snack. Think about those
mornings when you forget to eat breakfast and your stomach is growling the whole morning. Now
imagine not being able to suppress that feeling. Imagine feeling that hunger day after day. This is
reality for almost a sixth of the world s population. Is there any good news? Yes there is. There are
many ways for us to reduce world hunger. This essay will look at the causes of world hunger as well
as short term, and long term, solutions. World hunger can be solved using a combination of ideas and
people working together.
In the first world there are 9 million people suffering from hunger. In Canada, the HungerCount
survey, organized by Food Banks Canada, counted the number of people using food banks and
analysed their living conditions. The hunger issue in Canada has to do with poverty. Only 6% of food
bank users own their own home. Even with social assistance, which over 50% of food bank users are
receiving as their main source of income, these people cannot meet their basic needs. Child hunger is
also an issue in Canada, where 37% of food bank users are children. When a household s income is
too low, the children suffer. Many parents don t have the time to take care of their children and work at
the same time. Although these facts are about Canada, there are the similar issues facing people all
over the first world.

Summer In A Closet
The story All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury is about a girl named Margot who doesn t quite fit
in with the rest of the kids. Margot moved from Earth to Venus because her parents had to have
money. But on Venus the sun only comes out every 7 years for only 1 2 hours. But as we all know on
Earth the sun is out every day for 12 hours, so Margot knows what the sun looks like. So all the other
kids are jealous of her so they throw her in a closet.
Margot got put in a closet because she was trying to describe what the sun looked like to the other
kids. But apparently the other kids got tired of her non stop talking about the sun so they shoved her in
the closet. The sad thing was that they forgot all about Margot when the sun did come out, which

Quality Assurance Approach
White box testing approach is used to ensure the quality of the components in the web application.
This is essentially done by the developers who have implemented the requirements and have
knowledge of the functionality. In addition, during the iterative development the business analysts
who have written the business use case are also involved in this white box testing when the component
is fully implemented. This quality control process eventually leads to assurance of quality. The QA
process also verifies all documents are available in the project repository. This includes the versioned

The record is maintained in a tabular format and the corrective actions are planned to create new
revisions of the project artifacts. If the requirements were not met as expected by the use cases, then
the revision is part of the iterative development. If the formative evaluation results in changes to the
original requirement, then the change is processed through the change control management plan. For
example, one of the requirement mentioned that the time zone option list should show up only if the
transfer reason was time zone change. While this passed the unit test during formative testing, the
business user then realized, the service request could have a different reason like manager discretion
and still need time zone alignment. So, the business user created a change request to remove the
dependency of showing the time zone option list and instead show it all the time.
Another change was made to the notification message in case of rejection of a transfer request. The
business user, during formative testing, realized that a message of rejection sounds demoralizing, so it
was decided to change the message to indicate that the request has been closed as it needs more
information. The idea was to soften the blow of not doing what the engineer wanted. Since this was a
minor change in text, it was incorporated without additional budgeting.

Abstract Parallel databases are the high performance databases in RDBMS world that can used for
setting up data intensive enterprise data warehouse but they lack scalability whereas, MapReduce
paradigm highly supports scalability, nevertheless cannot perform as good as parallel databases.
Deriving an architectural hybrid model of best of both worlds that can support high performance and
scalability at the same time.

Parallel platform data warehouse is the one that built using parallel processing database like Teradata,
IBM Netezza etc. that support Massive Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture for data read/write
operations, unlike non parallel processing databases like Oracle, MySQL and SQL server that does
sequential row wise read/write operations without parallelism from DBMS. MapReduce paradigm is
popularized by Google, Inc.

Iain s Co is a large building services company which currently employs a team of IT technicians to
manage their IT infrastructure and support the IT users. Recently, the company has taken over a
similar but smaller company which also employs technical support staff in the same way.
The company feels that it needs a centralised IT based support system that will track, monitor and
report on the progress of the problems identified by users across the two sites generally improving the
IT support services.
The IT Support System needs to monitor the use if IT hardware, such as: keyboard, monitor, printer,
system unit, laptop, CD writer, mouse, in order to improve the service provided to users and ensure
the service is operated in an efficient way. You have already met with the network manager and he has
provided the main requirements of the system. The responsibility for monitoring each hardware item

The way people dress is extremely important in business. People tend to make their first impression on
the way that someone s dressed. According to the article, Business Etiquette Around the World: United

The Ethics Of Virtue By Kant And Mill
In this article the authors take the approach of analyzing three famous ethical theories. They look at
the ethics of virtue by Aristotle, Immanuel Kant s deontological ethics, and John Stuart Mill s
utilitarian happiness principle. They explain what each of these great thinkers argued constitutes moral
behavior as well as their thoughts on what drives such behavior. They then apply these concepts to
ethics training programs of modern day corporations. In short, one must have an understanding of the
impetus of people s ethical behaviors in order to implement an appropriate program to cultivate and
reinforce the desired organization s ethics.

Archetypal Characters and Symbols in The Phantom of the Opera
The story of The Phantom of the Opera appeals to many types of personalities and people of all ages
because of its archetypal characters and patterns. Carl Jung theorized that we are born with innate
tendencies to perceive things a certain way: a kind of readiness to reproduce over and over again the
same or similar mythical ideas . . . 1. These repeated ideas are archetypes. The basic legend of The
Phantom takes place in 19th century Paris, and is that of a young and talented, but untrained singer
named Christine. Erik, the Phantom, is a disfigured genius of many fields, including music,
architecture, magic, and science. His fatal flaw stems from his ... Show more content on

The children s version, meant for 8 to 12 year olds, is the most like the original 1920s Gaston Leroux
version. One of the few things that is changed, other than the overall abbreviation of the novel, is
simplification of the language. For example, Erik begins describing himself by saying, I was ugly.
Worse than ugly 3. This straightforward, childlike language puts the novel at the preteen reading level
while preserving Erik s crucial description. The Phantom of the Opera is the most popular book in
Random House Publishing s youth Bullseye Chiller series, above other tales of vampires, werewolves,
mummies, and witches4. Even children can identify with the love triangle among the three main
characters Erik, Christine and Raoul. They probably still pity his unrequited love for Christine, and the
way in which he was mistreated. Night Magic, another adaptation, is much lighter reading and aimed
at a different audience than the more literary variations. Night Magic is the modern day romance
version of Phantom, spanning two decades. Erik becomes a reclusive scarred contractor, and Christine
is now Marisa, a spoiled and orphaned teenager with a beautiful voice. The traditional Erik kills
without a thought when he feels threatened, while Erik s most raging moment in Night Magic consists
of him throwing a stool across the room when a client has been flirtatious with Marisa5. This
adaptation is lacking the dangerous side of Erik, so as not to scare

John Milton s Paradise Lost
John Milton s famous poem Paradise Lost has influenced society throughout the ages on a number of
topics ranging from the fall of Satan to the marriage roles that Adam and Eve teach us. One idea
stands alone though more so than that of any other topic that Milton writes about and that is the idea
of a Satanic Trinity. The Satanic Trinity shows how the evil of Hell spread to Earth and how it tempts
us in our everyday life. Milton writes about the Satanic Trinity because he believes that one must
understand the evil that comes out of the Satanic Trinity before one can fully appreciate and embrace
the good that comes out of the Holy Trinity. John Milton is considered one of the greatest English
poets of all time. Milton s career as a writer of prose and poetry spans three distinct eras: Stuart
England; the Civil War (1642 1648) and Interregnum, including the Commonwealth (1649 1653) and
Protectorate (1654 1660); and the Restoration (Albert C. Labriola par .1). Milton was born at 6:30 in
the morning on 9 December 1608. His parents were John Milton, Sr., and Sara Jeffrey Milton, and the
place of birth was the family home, marked with the sign of the spread eagle, on Bread Street, London
(Labriola par .6). Milton was one three children the other children of John and Sara who survived
infancy included Anne, their oldest child, and Christopher, seven years younger than John. At least
three others died shortly after birth, in infancy or in early childhood (Labriola par .6).

INTRODUCTION A significant amount of research efforts have been directed towards attempts at
providing high quality service for real time applications of IP based networks in the past decade. The
core idea of these techniques is to control the IP network congestion level which is the main cause of
delays/losses, and also imposes upper bounds on these events. Traffic policing is one of the techniques
used for this purpose. These techniques makes the assumption that users generating flows/calls will
specify the setup time by using Service Level Agreement (SLAs) i.e. the characteristics of the traffic
that they emit to the network. Therefore, these techniques are employed to ensure that the generated
traffic is within the conforms of previously agreed contracts. One of the most popular traditional

  • 2. Adverse Selection Research Paper Adverse selection Individuals who are sick are more likely to purchase health insurance than healthy people. This sicker population might utilize a significant amount of healthcare services. In order to cater to this demand insurance companies will resort to raising the premiums, dissuading healthy people from buying insurance. As the pool of people covered by insurance becomes sicker it continues to drive up costs leading to a vicious cycle where each year fewer and fewer healthy individuals obtain insurance. This process is called adverse selection. By implementing the individual mandate, we introduce healthy people into the insurance pool. The healthy individuals mitigate the cost of sicker individuals. As a result of requiring people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, if a crook thinks or knows that the soon to be victim has a gun the crook will back off and that person will not become a victim. An FBI study in 2000 showed that murders went down 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assault by 7%, and robbery by 3% in states with shall issue for concealed handguns. This means that crime rates in aggravated assault, burglary, murder and rape will go down drastically across the us. Sure there might be a downside like Someone might have a concealed permit with there gun and they are desperate for money. They will do anything for money like killing. • 4. The Effects Of Water On The Body Weight Water is about 60% of the adult human body weight. The relative importance of water is readily apparent through the role it plays in various systems of the body. The popular notion, therefore, exists that one must drink eight 8 oz glasses of water, which amounts to about 2 L, per day. Currently, the Institute of Medicine states that the total beverage intake for men should be about 13 cups or 3 L and for women 9 cups or 2.2 L ( Water: How Much... ). The right amount of water one should drink each day ultimately depends on a number of factors, such as where one lives, the amount of activity, and personal health. My average daily water intake is less than the recommended amount of 2 3 L, which affects the physiological functions of my cardiovascular and renal systems. A low water intake affects the healthy functioning of the cardiovascular system. The decrease in effective circulating volume, or the extracellular fluid in the blood vessels that perfuse the tissues, decreases end diastolic volume that is not compensated for by the end systolic volume, which exhibits a smaller decline. As a result, the stroke volume decreases because the left ventricle does not fill up as much with blood. The large reduction in end diastolic volume and stroke volume is mainly a result of the decrease in venous return due to the reduced amount of fluid circulating in the body (Stohr et al. 894). This leads to a reduction in arterial and atrial pressure, which decreases the stretch of the blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With 10 percent of the market and revenues of $1.2 billion New Balance is committed to hiring US workers and keeping its five US factories going by using technology tight team work, fast delivery and close communication to keep costs near the level of the cheap Asian factories that make all its competitors shoes . Although it too has factories in Asia and Mexico, New Balance has continued expanding its US workforce. But in the 1990s the Federal Trace Commission (FTC) which regulates advertising clamped down on New Balance saying the Made in USA label cannot be used unless all or virtually all (98 percent) of the components and labor are of US origin. New Balance shoes contain rubber ( 25 percent of shoe) not of US origin because rubber is not grown in the United States. When New Balance complained that its shoes were the only ones still 100 percent assembled in the United State by the US workers out of all US parts except for rubber, which is impossible to source in the United States the FTC backed down, ruling that Made in the USA meant at least 75 percent US parts and labor. But labor unions, consumer groups and 150 members of congress attacked the ruling saying it made the label deceptive because it should mean 100 percent US content. Darlene ... St. Jones By Synecdoche Throughout Literature the reader often finds themselves thrust into the world of its author, this world relies heavily upon imagery to assist in the formation of this world. In saying this, however, a significant amount of this literary world derived from text is lost due to it being written from the point of view of the recorder, this is even more true in regards to history. Narrowing down the notion of historical point of view, the reader must often times seek out information from both sides to get a pure account of the past and are scarcely ever given a completely unbiased historical account due to the primary ascender being given free reign as to what will be recorded. This idea of the victorious being the recorders of history connects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lucia, is the concept that areas having seen poverty and hardship do not tend to rise, heal, and grow from the past without there being some kind of force behind it but instead these areas often take a more dramatic and less sought after turn. These echos of past pain become places wrought with violence, corruption, and crime which leave behind any hope for a better future but instead give way to a great fall. Using synecdoche the reader is able to vividly see the downward spiral of the people of St. Lucia He warched a falling star singe the arc of its zone and traced the comet as its declining vector hissed out like a coal in the horizon s basin. using a falling star to describe the way in which the people of the island are progressively getting worse is not only a beautiful way to describe an ascent from a once previously higher place into what now seems like chaos but also because the use of synecdoche is still engrained here in the text because a comet was at one point a falling star but has now passed into earth s atmosphere. The use of falling star could also assist in the idea that at as the people of the island further descend into difficult times they begin to become more chaotic until the comet or in this case people reach their lowest ... • 8. Serfdom In Russia In Russia, serfdom was a system under which the peasants were theoretically free tenants, but were actually in a state of vassalage to, and dependence on, the landowners. Some people condemn feudalism, stating that it was a corrupt system of labor as it exploited serfs, but without the use of the serfs the entire economy of Europe would have suffered. Serfs were the foundation of the economic system because they provided labor and goods to the entire kingdom. Serfdom influenced the Russian way of life and culture. The actual system set up in place for serfs goes more in depth than just peasants working the property. The eventual emancipation of the serfs came about in March of 1861, in the Emancipation Manifesto issued by Russian emperor Alexander ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Serfdom in Europe can be drawn back to the 11th century. This type of feudalism traversed throughout Europe, decreasing in Western Europe around the 14th century with the Renaissance but growing in Central and Eastern Europe, a spectacle sometimes known as later serfdom . Serfs were lawfully required to dwell and toil at one place and to work on the land possessed by their lord, who may perhaps be a nobleman or an ecclesial dignitary. They could also be serfs of the state, working for the regime or in an institution such as a monastery. They were allocated a small area of land to cultivate to support themselves and their families, but had to make payments in produce and money to the lord from their own earnings. Social establishments closely alike to serfdom were known in ancient times. The position of the Helots in the primeval Greek city state of Sparta resembled that of feudal serfs, as did the state of the peasant working on government lands in primordial Rome. Serfdom was legally a subservient or unfree status that involved dependency upon a lord, significantly limited freedom of action in terms of livelihood and residence, and subjugation to duties considered marks of servility. They could inherit, own, and bequeath property. The lord s rights over their labor were restricted by local custom and tradition. The Russian Law Code of 1649 was promulgated by Tsar ... Either they do not have the means to buy food or they live in a place where food and vegetation are scarce and not readily available to the public. In any case, food remains a necessity all living creatures must have. Thanks to modern technology and advancements in all fields of agricultural business (agri business), the availability of food has increased tremendously. Modern farmers put in the same amount of work and effort for twice the reward. Wendell Berry, a man who grew up during the transition of old farming style and new farming style, noticed the transition from mules to tractors and the efficiency that came with the switch. Berry wrote an article titled Renewing Husbandry ; in his article, Berry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those people who live in these conditions can have better diets and live healthier because of agri business. The transformation from traditional farming to agri business became rapidly accepted by all types of farmers because of the mass benefits agri business provides. Berry noticed this transformation by stating, This transformation occurred with astonishing speed because, by the measures it set for itself, it was wonderfully successful. It saved labor (Berry, 2005, para. 4). This transformation increased the speed of farms. This means the increased speed also decreased the work effort; which allows farmers to do twice as much work without increasing the effort. The transition from traditional farming to agri business has increased the production load to where agri business can support the needs of the world. Agri business fulfills the needs of the world. Farmers can mass produce their products in a timely manner, granting them the ability to provide food for the world. With every year, agri business grows to keep up with the demand. Berry stated; [T]he tractor would stay and the mules would go. Year after year, agriculture would be adopted more and more to the technology and the processes of industry and to the rule of industrial economics (Berry, 2005, para. 4). Evaluation Of A Blood Test Patient 2 was a 65 year old female who had arrived with her blood test request form for a coagulation screen, which includes INR (prothrombin time), APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time) and fibrinogen. A prothrombin test measures how long it takes for blood to clot, or, coagulate. APTT is a screening test done which evaluates the function of a patient s intrinsic clotting system, the factors of prothrombin and fibrinogen that are involved, as well as prekallikrein (PK) and high molecular weight kininogen (HK). Additionally, Patient 2 s heparin anticoagulant therapy needed to be monitored; heparin being an anticoagulant which is administered intravenously or by injection in order to treat blood clots. A single CITRATE tube of the colour light blue was used for the patient s blood collection; this tube contains sodium citrate as an anticoagulant and is used for drawing blood for the purpose of coagulation studies. Blood collection procedures begin with the health practitioners, for example doctors, generating a blood test request form during a patient s visit. The request form contains important information regarding the patient, their doctor and the tests required. In the novel Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut the phrase so it goes is used 106 times. This three worded phrase does not seem like it has more meaning than the four worded phrase, a piece a cake, but it actually plays an important part in the novel. The phrase so it goes is specifically used after a person has died in the book, which occurs frequently. Vonnegut uses this phrase to demonstrate that whatever happens in life happens and so it goes. The resulting cipher text is then saved in database. When the user needs to get the actual message, he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are generated in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the choice of encryption algorithm, key size and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data. There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms and through Hashing. Different encryptions based on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128, AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value using hash function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared with the encrypted password stored in the database. If the result varies, then an invalid username/password is entered. Hash functions commonly in use are MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA 1[13]. 5.1.2.1 Notations used for Encryption scheme Key is an important requirement in encryption process.pk is denoted as public key and sk as private key [5]. • 17. Biography Of Frederick Douglas s Role Models For Business... Success is, in many ways, a branch of perspective, and yet societal norms seem to dictate what many view as success. Through my personal experience, and through the reading of Frederick Douglas I believe that the idea of personal success in correlation with perspective is a subject worthy of debate. Dissecting the difference of what many view as success and what may actually be success is essential for growth personally, and for people collectively. For example; currently many in our society view success as the acquisition of a copious monetary status, usually preceded, or followed by recognition for actions, ideas, etc... whether or not one views these actions or ideas worthy of widespread recognition(IE, success of socialites who may have not actually contributed to their own success). Many would believe that figures such as Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, who are viewed as successful women, are successful based on who they are, instead of what they ve done, while others believe these women are role models for business and personal marketing in the 21st century. I myself believe that success is not based on how any group views you, but on how you view yourself, and measure your own success; based on where you started in life, your goals, and your level of pride in your actions. It is my sentiment that we should discuss the topic of what success means to the individual, and not to the collective. A discussion of this perspective, I subscribe would allow for all people to ... The main purpose of avoiding food and drink prior to the lab was to eliminate the effects that could occur in the class data, reduce the amount of error and to get a fair result by having everyone start at the same time. • 34. Archetypal Characters and Symbols in The Phantom of the... Archetypal Characters and Symbols in The Phantom of the Opera The story of The Phantom of the Opera appeals to many types of personalities and people of all ages because of its archetypal characters and patterns. Carl Jung theorized that we are born with innate tendencies to perceive things a certain way: a kind of readiness to reproduce over and over again the same or similar mythical ideas . . . 1. These repeated ideas are archetypes. The basic legend of The Phantom takes place in 19th century Paris, and is that of a young and talented, but untrained singer named Christine. Erik, the Phantom, is a disfigured genius of many fields, including music, architecture, magic, and science. His fatal flaw stems from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The children s version, meant for 8 to 12 year olds, is the most like the original 1920s Gaston Leroux version. One of the few things that is changed, other than the overall abbreviation of the novel, is simplification of the language. For example, Erik begins describing himself by saying, I was ugly. Worse than ugly 3. This straightforward, childlike language puts the novel at the preteen reading level while preserving Erik s crucial description. The Phantom of the Opera is the most popular book in Random House Publishing s youth Bullseye Chiller series, above other tales of vampires, werewolves, mummies, and witches4. Even children can identify with the love triangle among the three main characters Erik, Christine and Raoul. They probably still pity his unrequited love for Christine, and the way in which he was mistreated. Night Magic, another adaptation, is much lighter reading and aimed at a different audience than the more literary variations. Night Magic is the modern day romance version of Phantom, spanning two decades. Erik becomes a reclusive scarred contractor, and Christine is now Marisa, a spoiled and orphaned teenager with a beautiful voice. The traditional Erik kills without a thought when he feels threatened, while Erik s most raging moment in Night Magic consists of him throwing a stool across the room when a client has been flirtatious with Marisa5. In the scene where the narrator is thinking about dresses, she admits, I have worn these clothes with docility, even pleasure in the days when I was unaware of the world s opinion, now grown wiser, I wished for the dresses like those my friend Lonnie had bought at Beale s store (Munro 129). The author tells this because when she was young she had worn these clothes or her moms made clothing with docility or with easy managing. • 36. John Milton s Paradise Lost John Milton s famous poem Paradise Lost has influenced society throughout the ages on a number of topics ranging from the fall of Satan to the marriage roles that Adam and Eve teach us. One idea stands alone though more so than that of any other topic that Milton writes about and that is the idea of a Satanic Trinity. The Satanic Trinity shows how the evil of Hell spread to Earth and how it tempts us in our everyday life. Milton writes about the Satanic Trinity because he believes that one must understand the evil that comes out of the Satanic Trinity before one can fully appreciate and embrace the good that comes out of the Holy Trinity. John Milton is considered one of the greatest English poets of all time. Milton s career as a writer of prose and poetry spans three distinct eras: Stuart England; the Civil War (1642 1648) and Interregnum, including the Commonwealth (1649 1653) and Protectorate (1654 1660); and the Restoration (Albert C. INTRODUCTION A significant amount of research efforts have been directed towards attempts at providing high quality service for real time applications of IP based networks in the past decade. The core idea of these techniques is to control the IP network congestion level which is the main cause of delays/losses, and also imposes upper bounds on these events. Traffic policing is one of the techniques used for this purpose. These techniques makes the assumption that users generating flows/calls will specify the setup time by using Service Level Agreement (SLAs) i.e. the characteristics of the traffic that they emit to the network. Therefore, these techniques are employed to ensure that the generated traffic is within the conforms of previously agreed contracts. One of the most popular traditional traffic policing techniques is the Leaky Bucket (LB). Average rate and the maximum burst size/length of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
