The project is designed to minimize penalty for industrial units by using automatic power factor
correction unit with the help of zig bee. Power factor is defined as the ratio of real power to apparent
power. This definition is often mathematically represented as KW/KVA, where the numerator is the
active (real) power and the denominator is the (active + reactive) or apparent power. Reactive power is
the non working power generated by the magnetic and inductive loads, to generate magnetic flux. The
increase in reactive power increases the apparent power, so the power factor also decreases. Having
low power factor, the industry needs

The Bon Marché Essay
The Bon Marché Michael Miller s book, The Bon Marché: Bourgeois Culture and the Department
Store, 1869 1920, is an expansive and interesting look back on a era of Parisian history that is best
represented by its then current trend and social innovation, the department store. The book gives a
fascinating account of the store from its beginning to eventual common place status in 1914. The book
gives an insight on the factors in which the store saw success, such as the management, the labor, and
new marketing. It also gives light to the social factors that made the store possible (i.e education and
economy). Bon Marché is a book about the change in the 19th century French market and the effect it
then had on the bourgeoisie class. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aristide and Marguerite established the new Bon Marché with a managerial tactic of benevolence to
answer a need to maintain control over the store s performance and progress. The employees of the
Bon Marché were some of the best paid employees in all of Paris, as well did they receive great in
house benefits. In 1876, Aristide Boucicaut announced the establishment of a financial fund for
employees. This was designed to make the employees apart of his house, or family. The methods
proved so effective that even the Boucicauts eventual successors (though most having made their way
up the ranks of the store) continued their system. In part three, Miller gives life to the Bon Marché; the
store slowly but surely becomes a part of the bourgeoisie class and social culture, giving them such
practices as displaying art, selling nouveautés, a library of books, and a venue for concerts. The store
attracts a certain kind of upper class. They wished to be able to take part in something as close to the
middle class as possible. The store added more middle class employees and merchandising items that
personified middle class values; the Bon Marché helped construct the new idea of how the middle
class looked and acted. The Bon Marché is a well researched, well drafted, and well organized book of
whose argumentation is linear and sequential. The book would excite business historians with the
ideas of merchandising

Accidental Asian Chapter Summaries
Today, I started reading the first chapter of the memoir called The Accidental Asian by Eric Liu.
Reading the first chapter is not just for pleasure or information, but for sympathy and relation. As an
international student, I find the story of the author s dad directly connecting to my life as transiting
from Vietnam to the US. His dad boats across the Pacific with the hope for creating the prosper Liu
family. Although he wants to maintain Chinese manner, Chao hua Liu, the author s father naturally
assimilates into American culture. As he attends University of Illinois, he soon becomes an elegant
man in a Western suit in his own wedding, enjoys his vacation in luxurious American way. And more
important, he communicates by English fluently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an international student, for me, I find his story can be part of mine in the future. Having lived in
the US for six months, not long enough to completely get rid of my Vietnamese origin, I sometimes
find it difficult to preserve my cultural traditions while living in American environment, which
requires me to be completely assimilated into it. Going to school, I no longer have to wear in
traditional dress, no longer have to bend my body for 90 degree to greet an adult, and no longer have
to wait for adults on dinner table to eat first before I start to eat. Flashing back to what I used to
traditionally do in Vietnam, I feel regretful, ashamed, and especially confused whether these changes
are assimilation, or just simply accommodation. Yet, I can assert certainly that what I have
experienced in past six months is categorized as assimilation. Due to Eric Liu s narration about his
father s life, I am again clear about my experience as well as the definition of assimilation: I take
American information, trends and experience and then incorporate with my existing culture. And
unfortunately, I find a way to get rid of my traditions and replace with American

Tolerance in The Freedom Writers Diary
The Freedom Writers Diary Essay The Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell and her students show
many great examples of the vast importance of tolerance. This novel is about one teacher who taught
her students tolerance and knowledge. This novel even shares how to support tolerance and diversity.
Tolerance is important to have in this world because without tolerance, there can be no peace
The Freedom Writers Diary shows how the students learn tolerance. In Diary 36, the student writes

Client Goal
Research reveals that self esteem is the most consistent predictor of the likelihood and extent of
substance abuse (Uba et al., 2013). The client is a 15 year old female who was court ordered to
Inspirations for Youth and Families treatment center. Client was arrested for shop lifting but was also
charged with the possession of Heroin. For the past couple weeks, the client presented with low self
esteem of self that may have played a role in her poor choice in substance abuse. On top of Detox and
group therapy, the client will receive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in hopes to improve self esteem to
alter the substance abuse behavior.
Single Subject Evaluation
The author used an ABAB design with the client. The ABAB design represents an effort to measure a
baseline, a treatment measurement, the withdrawal of treatment, and the re introduction of treatment.
The author chose the design because it involves two parts including gathering of baseline information,
the application of a treatment and measurement of the effects of the treatment; and of what happens
when the treatment is removed and then again applying the treatment and measuring the change. With
the amount of time allowed, the ABAB design worked best.
Measurement Tool The Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSS) was used to measure the clients level of
self esteem. The RSS is a 10 item scale that measures self worth by evaluating both positive and
negative feelings about the self. The scale is believed to be one

Trisomy 21 Or Down Syndrome
Obesity has become a normality in the states and around the world. There has been a big push on
social media lately to accept all body types and stop hate and discrimination of overweight people, yet
weight bias still remains one of the most prevalent and most accepted forms of bias. Typically, we
associate obesity with a lack of exercise or an excess of caloric intake or just laziness on the part of
the patient. However, patients who suffer from Trisomy 21, or Down Syndrome, often seem to present
as obese. In fact, according to Polednak and AulifFe (1976), 20% of males with a learning disability
were obese while 17% of females were obese. While this should come at no shock due to the
prevalence of obesity in our society, it is a major concern. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This must be done before digging into the problem of weight. According to the Mayo Clinic, the
disease commonly called Down Syndrome exists because of extra genetic material on the 21st
chromosome. They say it is the most common genetic mental disability and can cause a wide variety
of intellectual disabilities and developmental delays (2014). Almost 95% of cases are present because
of nondisjunction, or the chromosome failing to separate during cellular division (Murray 2010).
Trisomy 21 can be detected prenatally by looking at the chromosome makeup of a fetus. At this point
in the United States, the typical treatment is to offer a blood test to all pregnant women, something
that was first seen in the 1970s (Roizen Paterson 2003). The combined serum test has a 69% detection
rate for Trisomy 21 in women (Roizen Patterson 2003). Immediately after birth, newborns with down
syndrome are tested for congenital heart failure, hearing loss, and ophthalmological problems. Other
frequent problems include Atrioventricular septal defect, ventricular septal defect, isolated Secundum
atrial septal defects, isolated patent ductus arteriosus, and isolated tetralogy of Fallot. Some of the
heart diseases will not show up until later in life due to other complications (Roizen Patterson 2003).
Down Syndrome is classified by a very specific

Enron Was The Largest Bankruptcy Of America Essay
Enron had the largest bankruptcy in America s history and it happened in less than a year because of
scandals and manipulation Enron displayed with California s energy supply. A few years ago, Enron
was the world s 7th largest corporation, valued at 70 billion dollars. At that time, Enron s business
model was full of energy and power. Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling had raised Enron to stand on a culture
of greed, lies, and fraud, coupled with an unregulated accounting system, which caused Enron to go
down. Lies were being told by top management to the government, its employees and investors. There
was a rise in Enron s share price because of pyramid scheme; their strategy consisted of claiming so
much money to easily get away with their tricky ways. They deceived their investors so they could
keep investing their money in the company.
Kenneth Lay, former Chairman and CEO, and Jeff Skilling who was also a CEO and COO of Enron,
had the major part in Enron when it collapsed and went bankrupt. Because of deregulations Ken Lay

made him ambitious to earn wealth regardless of the path he takes, hence, unethical professionalism at

Mary Todd Lincoln s Life
One cannot say that Mary Todd Lincoln did not suffer great loss in her lifetime. From a young age, she
became familiar with loss when she lost her mother at the age of six (Baker 2002). Some people
looked at her as crazy and thought she should be locked up in a mental hospital like her son had done
to her. If they took the time, though, to read through her great losses and look from her perspective,
maybe they could realize that she was just a mourning daughter, sister, mother, and wife. Mrs. Lincoln
was raised in a wealthy, southern family (Baker 2002). Her family represented the slaveholding gentry
of a new community, although she was uncomfortable with the southern slaveholding ways (Baker
2002). She lost her mother at the age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

States, the Northerners saw her from the South, and easterners saw her as a uncouth westerner (Norbut
2008). When Willie died in 1862 from typhoid fever, Mrs. Lincoln didn t get any sympathy from the
rest of the United States because every mother out there was potentially losing their sons (Baker
2002). This caused problems between the married couple because Lincoln mourned his death more
privately in Willie s bedroom as she took it more as a personal blow, he saw it as a shared grief of the
parents and families whose soldier sons and husbands he had sent off to the war (Baker 2002). Mrs.
Lincoln never did anything bland, including mourning the death of Willie ( Family: Mary Todd
Lincoln ). She had an eye for fashion, even during the period in 1862 and 1863 when Mrs. Lincoln
was in mourning for her son Willie and wore only black, she managed to go further into debt for new
clothes ( Family: Mary Todd Lincoln ). Mrs. Lincoln shed her mourning attire a little over a year later,
but she did start reaching out and seeing spiritualist ( Family: Mary Todd Lincoln ). She would invite

The Digital Signature Commercial Use Should Be Governed By...
The Digital Signature Commercial Use Should Be Governed by Law Since the number of taxi s
companies that use smart phone s application to provide their services has increased, the popularity of
those companies has increased too. Unfortunately, one of the famous taxi s company in Saudi Arabia
called Karim had lost their customer s trust because the customers credit cards information has been
stolen by a hacker, who hacked the company s digital signature to accesses their server and steal
information. In fact, the internet has influenced our life and the E commerce was not an exception.
Many customers prefer online shopping, leasing, and selling, which are considered trade contracts. As
the contract should contain a signature that represents the agreement between parties, a written
signature is not viable in E commerce. As a result, electronic signatures have existed to provide
convenient and faster service that E commerce needs. In fact, electronic signatures have not taken as a
proof of evidence except a digital signature because the requirement to accept the signature to proof
documents could be existed only in a digital signature. In this paper, I argue that government should
regulate a digital signature to satisfied E commerce expectation and growing. First, I will define the
digital signature and distinguish it from similar signatures. second, I will explain the usage of the
digital signature in E commerce and how it expanded. Third, I will explain the law importance

Toni Morrison Victimizers
In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests that
the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first creating a
character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate
another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use
the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of
their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come
from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. This
work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities of victims and victimizers in the same
characters to show that people can be both. According to Oxford dictionary, the formal definition of a

Pastors Brokenness
What marks most pastors who come to our ministry is their brokenness. In every case, pastors
resigning from their church are broken, beaten, and discouraged. Pastorless churches are a paradoxical
development in the United States. While plenty of clergy abound in the US, fifteen hundred pastors
leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, spiritual burnout, or contention in their churches.
Their stories, along with my own experiences in the pastorate, attest to several common traits among
pastorless churches. Churches who struggle to keep pastors possess similar characteristics and cultures
within their congregations. Here are ten observations:
Clergy Competence. For various reasons, a point is reached when a pastor simply is no longer
competent to hold this most trusted position in the church. Often, it is a matter of disqualification due

Many churches suffer from too few families controlling the life of the church. One of my members
once said, It s hard to get in here, but once you re in you re in. To which I replied, And the Spirit of

Competing Boards. Another pastor shared the plight of his church. Within the church existed an elder
board of eight members and a deacon board of eight members. The church barely averaged 300 people
in attendance. For years these two boards refused to communicate, cooperate, or coordinate. Any
wonder their church chewed through six pastors in ten years?
Consumed Clergy. Most pastors are just plain worn out. In a recent survey 802 or 71% of pastors
surveyed stated they were burned out, battle depression, and feel fatigue on a daily basis. Pastors
usually keep 60 hour work weeks, are on call at all times, are required to perform multiple tasks

Phychoanalysis In Sigmund Freud s Totem And Taboo
The book titled Totem and Taboo is a English translation of few articles from its German origin which
was first published in the journal Imago in 1913 depicting Sigmund Freud s interpretation of a number
of ethnic phenomena in light of psychoanlysis centring around the lives and customs of primitive
people and the savages form around the world, like Australia, New Zealand, Africa and so on. In this
book Freud attempts to interpret the culture, ethics and religion in light of psychoanalysis. This
particular work of Freud has been noticed by anthropologists, the vogue of the psychoanalytic
movement founded by him is now so strong that the book is certain to make an impression in many

Freud assumes that repressed incestuous desires between family members are most likely the
explanation for all avoidances, as evident from his extensive studies. The first love objects for infants
are their family members, particularly the boy for his mother (Oedipus complex) and then his sister if
he has one, but these are always repressed. In most cases the boy successfully substitutes other women
outside the family for these original choices, but neurotic patients fails to get over these conflicts and
fixate on an earlier stage; he has either failed to get free from the psycho sexual conditions that
prevailed in his childhood or he has returned to them. In civilized societies, this condition is relatively
rare, but Freud speculates that in primitive or savage societies sexual desires have not been as
successfully sublimated as in modern Europe, such that the equation between primitives, savages, and
neurotics seems to him justified by the available evidence. Freud based many of his theories including
unconscious impulses on the subject of dreams. He asserts that these ideas derive from dreams that are
then projected to the natural world through instinctual repression. Freud emphasised that religion was
a form of guilt used to cope with the Oedipus

Sappho s Use Of Imagery Essay
Imagery is utilized in literature to appeal to the reader s senses and to paint a picture in their
imagination. Poets use the images they create to help the reader interpret their writing. For instance, in
Psalm 104 descriptive language is used throughout to praise the beauty of earth as god created. The
poem opens by praising the greatness of the lord and continues into: Who coverest thyself with as with
a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain / Who layeth the beams of his chambers into
the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot (Lines 2 3). In these lines the poet is explaining how
god created the natural world. The reader can visually picture god creating the heavens, in their
vastness, just as if he were shaking out a curtain. Attempting to picture the creation of heaven can be
difficult, however, the author uses a simile to help readers develop a clear picture. ... Show more

For example, in Sappho s poem number 94, her use of imagery allows the reader to experience the
speaker s loss of their lover in lines 1 5:
I simply want to be dead.
Weeping she left me
with so many tears and said this:
Oh how badly things have turned out for us.
Sappho, I swear, against my will I leave you.
The poem is written as a conversation between Sappho and a woman who is leaving her, probably to
marry another. The reader can relate and feel Sappho s heartbreak and relate to her agony. There is
also a sense of fondness between the two women as the discuss the time they shared together (lines 10
20).
Boat of Cypress, contained in the Classic of Poetry, also utilized imagery to allow the reader to relate
to the speaker of the poem.
The Boat of cypress drifts along, it drifts upon the steam.
Restless am I, I cannot sleep,
As though in torment and troubled.
Not am I lacking wine
To ease my mind and let me

An Summary Of The Story Of Anything Is Possible
The phrase anything is possible became a mantra in Jack s life. It was easy to believe when the days
were filled with ambition, prosperity, and fortune. He became presumptuous; blinded by the belief that
he was untouchable. It must have been a result of all his doubts being washed away by the sound of
trumpets and glimpses of a pretty girl s thighs. However, the allure of that lifestyle withered with the
publication of each and every article regarding the stock market. The course pages of the paper spoke
of declining percentages, monetary loss, and eventually, an economic crisis. Yet during this time, the

time he felt content. The majority of his time and energy was exhausted by the apprehension of a time

especially considering he hadn t been employed for a number of months now. He heard stories

than to resort to such disconcerting acts. He wondered if the men and women surrounding him had

conscious of the fact that these people had lives, comprised of their own experiences, desires, and

Who was Robin Hood? Legend has it that Robin Hood was an outlaw living in Sherwood Forest with

Robin Hood, the subject of many ballads, books and films, has proven to be one of popular culture s

legend of Sherwood Forest s merry outlaws evolved over time and did a real Robin Hood inspire these
classic stories?
Robin Hood was famous for being an outlaw from Nottingham who robs from the rich and gives away

vehicle was invented, the inventors did not realize that alcohol would become a problem for drivers.
Although people tried taking keys away and designated drivers, fatalities involving drunk drivers
continued to rise. With the advancement in technology, there had to be a way to prevent vehicles from
being started if a person was under the influence of alcohol. Even though convicted drunk driving
offenders already receive fines and jail time, ignition interlocks should be mandatory for all convicted
drunk driving offenders because ignition interlocks reduce alcohol related traffic crashes and ignition

improvements in vehicle technology, about 10,000 people die every year on the nation s roads and

The Invention Of Phase Contrast Microscopy By The Nobel...
Abstract
In the last century with the invention of phase contrast microscopy by the Nobel Prize winner Frits
Zernike, nucleoli were among the most con spicuous structures. The nucleolus was first de scribed
between 1835 and 1839, but it had to go through another century before it was discovered to be related
with a specific chromosomal locus, which marked it as a cytogenetic entity.1
At the end of the 18th century, Montgomery was the first to publish the monumental monograph,
which included color figures of nuclei and nucleo li.1
Based on the Montgomery work, further studies where conducted to analyze the function of the
nucleolus in the next century. In fact himself has studied nucleoli in the oocytes of over 175 differ ent
species and had approached at three re markable conclusions that still hold true today: 1) In one cell
there can be more than one nucleolus;
2) Cells with higher growth are presented with more and larger size;
3) The last conclusion was, the size of the cells interfere with the size of nucleolus.2
After the 1960 numerous discovers made a huge impact in the modern science, one of these is the
study on the rRNA which lead to the conclusion that the nucleolus is the site of ribosomal RNA
synthesis and nascent ribosome assembly.1
In the early 70s it was observed that the ribonu cleoprotein precursors to ribosomes contain two
classes of protein. The difference between these proteins was thought to be that one class could be
recognized as ribosomal proteins,

The Clash Of The Titans
THE CLASH OF THE TITANS
The War of 1812 The War of 1812 began as a result of a long fought war between Great Britain and
French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte, that eventually infringed upon many of America s rights.
France and Great Britain had been fighting since 1793. Napoleon was a very powerful and determined
emperor who conquered much of Europe during the 19th century. The Royal Navy was very skilled at
naval combat and France had a strong and capable leader that was very skilled in war tactics. The
United States wanted the trade from both countries so it stayed neutral during the war. However, the
U.S. became a more active participant due to forced trade sanctions and Britain s impressment of
American seamen. The war is known as the War of 1812 because that is the year that America
declared war on Great Britain, but the war was actually started approximately three years earlier when
tensions between the Americans and the Indians escalated over westward territory expansion. Indian
problems, trade sanctions, impressment all fueled the start of the War of 1812. The Americans took a
neutral stance in this war and traded with both sides, Great Britain and France. Great Britain and
France both tried to stop the trade between the Americans and the other party, however, Great Britain
tried to restrict American trade with France by issuing the Orders in Council Act in 1807. This order
required companies to get a license before trading with France and French

Functionalism And Funtionalism In The Holocaust
Introduction Functionalism versus intentionalism is a long lasting debate originating from the end of
World War Two in 1945. It analyses the Third Reich and the way it s leaders approached foreign
policy at the time, mainly concerning the Holocaust. There are two dominant theories to the
background behind the horrific events of the Holocaust that took lives of 6 million Jews and millions
of other ethnic minorities. Historians have ever since searched for evidence of the reasons behind
these abominations executed by Adolf Hitler, was solely Hitler behind the Holocaust or was it the men
working for his regime? In this essay I will analyse the evidence in favor for both of the theories
suggested in the question and the evidence produced to support them, as well as the views of the
historians at that time and now. There are two competing theories functionalist and intentionalism,
however the main difficulty occurs considering the fact that there is lack of evidence on the main
perpetrator behind the Jewish question (Draper, 1999, p.14). Since no single Führerbefehl (order from
the Führer) has ever been found, or is ever likely to be found, historians have debated the centrality of
Hitler to the development of Nazi Jewish policy (Stone, 2004, p.2) Functionalism Theory of
functionalism was greatly contributed by Marxist historian Timothy Mason, whose views shined light
off of Hitler being the sole mastermind behind the Holocaust, and towards the Nazi organization

Improving Information Literacy
Information literacy is knowing when and why you need information, where to find it, and how to
evaluate, use and communicate it in an ethical manner. Information literacy means to be able to search
online and to be patient and persistent researchers and to be able to retrieve information in a variety of
formats, identify patterns within an array of sources, and dive deeply into source material. The skills
that are required to be information literate call for an understanding of a need for information, the
resources available, how to find information, the need to evaluate results, how to work with or exploit

Improving your information skills will help you in ongoing pursuit of knowledge because knowledge
in action means being able to sort through that growing thicket of information. This is a lifelong
learning skill, crucial to health, wealth, social equality, and well being. In an era of partisan fog and
the polarization of many subjects, it is a skill vital for effective citizenship. Improving your
information skills helps you in your career ambitions because if you understand what it means to be
information literate, then you then began to understand how to use it, this goes well beyond search
engines. This is not to say that everyone must develop the hybrid expertise of an investigative
journalist, high level consultant, or front line infectious disease analyst. But that blend of speed,
smarts, and problem solving will prove essential in the 21st century workplace for effective and
informed decision making, creative solutions to problems in both science and public policy, and
breakthrough discoveries and innovations. Understanding how to find and research information and
how to combine it into your course work or any other areas of life would be much easier if you tried to

the nature of the dairy sector, all consumers considered that its useful value is nutritional for them and
their loved ones. Consumers are always thinking in one direction that the higher the price is, the
higher the quality is. While the Vietnam fresh milk market has been dominated by the large firms,
Vinamilk will not succeed if they position a similar product. Therefore, with a different positioning, by
focusing on creating an alternative product for fresh dairy products, they will create a strong position
in the consumers mind. Based on the survey, we found that, apart from cow s milk, many customers,
especially those of women and older people, like soy milk because it does not contain much fat and

Social Responsibility Of A Business
Introduction Cohen wrote extensively on the work of Drucker especially in the areas of business and
nonprofit management. However, Cohen s article on social responsibility drew a lot attention from
other scholars like Friedman. In view of this, this paper will discuss and define the concept of social
responsibility of a business to its workers, stakeholders, and society; how the perspectives align with
that of Drucker; comparing Cohen s opinion with that of Friedman and finally determines which of the
two individual s opinion best aligns with the current business climate promoting a green environment.
Concept of social responsibility According to Cohen (2009), the concept of social responsibility entail
that every organization must assume the full responsibility for its impact on employees, the
environment, customers, and whomever and whatever it touches (p. 31). On the other hand, Murphy
(2009) explains that social responsibility pertains to an entity s ability to respond to a person, situation
or issue in a certain way (p. 245). Comparatively, Carroll Buchholtz (2003) revealed that the concept
of social responsibility means that organizations have moral, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities
in addition to their responsibilities to earn fair return for investors and comply with the law (p. 36).
This means that the society will look for major organizations where profits and nonprofit could be
derived to take care of some of the ills in the society.

Essay On Hume s Views On Miracles
Hume s View of Miracles Much of Hume s audience, both when it wrote it and in contemporary times,
is religious, or at least surrounded by a culture that is largely religious. As such, Hume spends Section
X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory
with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in
them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from
our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event,
then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the
groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of
evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that
has the highest probability. For example, if there were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, while there is evidence for miracles in the form of testimony, the uniform experience of
natural laws trumps testimony. Because no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, we have a
uniform experience against every miraculous event. 12 In other words, whenever there is a miraculous
claim, an actual miracle has the lowest probability of being true, while any naturalistic explanation has
a higher probability of being true, because a naturalistic explanation fits with our uniform experience.
Therefore, Hume concludes that uniform experience amounts to a proof. . . against the existence of
any miracle, meaning that we can rest assured that all miraculous claims are

Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald manages to draw the attention of the reader to miniscule details and
symbols in the text. He uses colors to communicate to the reader feelings and attitudes of the
protagonists. Color symbolism, in many ways, plays a large role in the novel. It is the most powerful
method of granting the reader insight into the personality of a character; it reveals the hidden ideas and
values. The style of symbolism that is most riddled throughout the text is the attachment of ideas to
colors. Some of the color based symbols used are vague, while some are specific. The colors most
prominently represented are the hope and purity of white, the optimism of green, the wealth of gold
and the faux wealth of yellow. In The Great Gatsby, the color white stands for unblemished,
honorable, and pure perfection. When Nick is moving in, one of the first things he happens to notice is
how Across the courtesy the white palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water...
(Fitzgerald 5). The East Egg is seen as old money; it is a lifestyle that is merely an aspiration at best.
Perfection shines from across the bay, in the area where the born rich live. It is the area that you

Problems Of The And Boundary Work
Problems of Demarcation and Boundary Work
One of the fundamental areas of study concerning professionals, including lawyers and scientists, is
that of professional boundaries (Lamont Molnar). Where are the bounds of the profession? Who is
included and who is excluded from the profession? One of the driving questions for scholars of
science has been the demarcation problem, that is determining what is and is not included in science
(Gieryn 1983). Historically, the social studies of science has divided between internal and external
approaches, which studied the construction of science from inside and outside the professional
boundaries of science respectively (Kuhn 1977). Thus externalism internalism debates in the history
and sociology of science formed the central dividing line of the field until late last century (Shapin
1992). However, a contemporary consensus has emerged in science studies that the demarcation
problem is essentially irrelevant to the study of science. The demarcation problem has been called a
pseudo problem by those who argue that philosophically there is no reason to believe that it is possible
to define necessary and sufficient conditions to separate the scientific from the non scientific. (Laudin
1983) Gieryn proposed that instead of considering demarcation as a conceptual problem, the bounds
of science should be reinterpreted as a practical problem faced by scientists who have a professional
need to distinguish their work from other intellectual

Romans had cavalry (Soldiers who fought on horseback) they wore mail or scale armor.
The similarities:
Ancient Egypt And Ancient Rome both had hand slings this used rocks instead of arrows in them.
They both had very strong armor to wear. They had spears and javelins to throw. They both had war

The differences:

As previously noted, there are no distinctive competencies when it relates to the beer industry except
for the product itself. One of the keys to any business is understanding trends and being able to
monetize based on those trends. In recent years many of the largest companies in the beer industry
have seen slower growth in the U.S. and Europe. In fact Molson Coors reported a 0.2% increase in
sales in the U.S., 3.6% growth in Europe, but in Canada they had a drop in sales of 8.2% year over
year in 2014. In comparison, the Molson Coors International (MCI) business saw sales grow 13.2% in
2014. The MCI group was created in 2008 to grow and expand the brand portfolio in emerging
markets outside of the U.S. and Europe.

With a population of over 1.3 billion people, China is poised to be a major area of interest for
companies like Molson Coors. In fact through its joint venture with SABMiller, there are certain
offerings available for the Chinese consumers already from Molson Coors. However, in order to
become a dominant player Molson Coors needs to better understand the culture. An example of such a
situation is the change in the design of the Coors Light bottles that took place in mid 2014. Currently
in the U.S. and Europe, Coors Light beer is designed with a logo of the Rocky Mountains, which is
able to change colors from silver to blue when it reaches an ideal icy temperature. However, based on
local considerations, Molson Coors learned that in China the consumers prefer to drink warmer beer,

ABSTRACT In this paper, the student writer will discuss the methods that are taught in Hurt People
Hurt People by Dr. Sandra Wilson (2001). The student writer will compare and contrast the skills that
are mentioned in this book to establish a well maintained way in which to minister to clients, and meet
their needs as a counselor. Discussing our own hurts and abilities to minister to others through Dr.
Wilson s techniques and methods will be discovered in this paper. Table of Contents Title Page 1

Primary Goal The primary goal of this books is to view oneself as a way to reach others. Everybody
goes through difficult trials and circumstances in their lives. Sometimes we carry deep wounds from
these traumatic episodes in our lives. If we don t learn how to work through those episodes of trauma,
we may ultimately hurt others. We then create a generational trap in which we continuously hurt
others the way in which we were hurt, if not more so in the end. It becomes a generational curse and
Dr. Wilson explains that the goal of counseling is to develop new ways to end the generational curses
that traumatize and affect us from the inside out. When we learn new ways to cope and to heal, we
then are able to end the viscous

The Causes And Effects Of The Naxal Movement In India
Asia has been known to be a continent that has been colonized by many Western countries. Asia
has been through many experiences following the colonization of those Western countries. These
experiences both include the good and the bad side of being colonized, namely the many
different influences like cultures, ideologies, and many other things shared to us by the Western
people, but the bad side of being colonized will not be forgotten. Asia has experienced a lot of
violence and undergone being oppressed by the Western people, but violence in Asia isn t only
done by the colonizers and at times, the people in the continent and countries hurt and do
violence against the people in their own territory themselves.

The problem has been in the
Indian state s perception of the causes of the Naxal movement. The Naxalites control territory
throughout Bihar, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh states and claim to be supported by the poorest
of the rural population, especially the Adivasis. The Naxalites have frequently targeted tribal,
police and government workers in what they say is a fight for improved land rights and more
jobs for neglected agricultural labourers and the poor. The Naxalites claim that they are
following a strategy of rural rebellion similar to a protracted people s war against the
government. The first combat deaths of the insurgency were in 1980. Around 1,100 people are
known to have died during 2009. The number includes 600 civilians, 300 security personnel and
200 rebels. There were more than 40,000 displaced people in 2006. According to the Institute of
Peace and Conflict studies, Naxal groups have recruited children in different capacities and
exposed them to injury and death. However the same accusation has been levelled at the state
sponsored Salwa Judum anti Maoist group, and Special Police officers (SPOs) assisting the
government security

What It Means To Wood Privacy Fence
Wood privacy fences are an important component of a house especially one in the urban community. A
well chosen and appropriately designed fence affords homeowners the pleasure of enjoying their
private space without necessarily giving the impression of being an unfriendly neighbor. You don t
even have to fence the entire perimeter of the house. In some cases, even just short sections of fencing
in your property can already give you a semblance of solitude and discourage curious onlookers.
Keeping in mind the style and landscaping design of one s area, there are many fencing options to
choose from. Wood privacy fences make for some of the best privacy fences and come in a variety of
styles and materials. Vinyl fencing is also a suitable and cheaper alternative, or you can opt for a more
natural look with the use of greens shrubs and trees.
You need to be aware of the local rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This a privacy fence made from natural shrubs, trees and grasses. There are no policies on such fences
made from evergreen.
On top of this, you can also use bamboo, which is a very reliable privacy fence. You can also use
many other shrubs that flower and bring a great amount of foliage during the various seasons. You
might want to create a classic hedge look or a more fashionable boxwood privet. The choice is yours
and you are free to choose here.
If you want immediate results and don t want to be bothered with maintaining your fences, then
hardscape fences or the traditional privacy fences are clearly the best option for you. The project is
easy enough to do and the fence sections are light enough such that the average homeowner can do the
job himself. An essential factor to consider when doing the work yourself is if the fence that you put
up is strong enough to withstand strong winds. For fences 6 feet tall or less, fence posts should be dug
at least 2 feet deep into the

Elderly Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Homes

Elderly Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Homes Are nursing homes abusing and neglecting the elderly?
The elderly are abused and neglected in society today by caregivers in nursing homes. Elder abuse or
neglect is a single or repeated action occurring within any relationship where there is an overlook of
trust which causes injury or distress to an older person. The elderly are our foundation and our youth
are the building blocks to our nation. Some elderly have no medical problems, some are autistic, and

The method they use is a socio structural analysis through which . What this analysis is that they
reviewed literature on ageism and discussed the intricate concerns on the elderly. They looked at the
theoretical aspects that explain the concerns of the elderly. It is thought if we discuss and have an
understanding of intergenerational perceptions through empirical and optimistic perceptions then we
have a better chance of understanding the concepts of the ageism. Is this a method you might try?
Why or why not? They might have different results, in being dependent on caregivers for support, and
society curbs various freedoms and when we are younger we have prestige, income employment and
management positions. The results of the research is the study found that the elderly are living longer
and by the year 2050 there will be more elders than youth. As previously indicated, one possible
explanation for why older people may have come to be less valued than in the past is because they do
not offer as much value in modernized societies because they have not kept up the changes because
they are used to their old ways. The research that North and Fiske accomplished showed enough
evidence that our elderly are an inconvenienced youth at this time but not forever. What kind of
outcomes supported this conclusion? The conclusion made by the authors is that society s treatment of
ageism should become prime research topic across multiple social sciences . They also

Power factor is defined as the ratio of real power to apparent power. This definition is often mathematically represented as KW/KVA, where the numerator is the active (real) power and the denominator is the (active + reactive) or apparent power. Reactive power is the non working power generated by the magnetic and inductive loads, to generate magnetic flux. The increase in reactive power increases the apparent power, so the power factor also decreases. Having low power factor, the industry needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Bon Marché Essay The Bon Marché Michael Miller s book, The Bon Marché: Bourgeois Culture and the Department Store, 1869 1920, is an expansive and interesting look back on a era of Parisian history that is best represented by its then current trend and social innovation, the department store. The book gives a fascinating account of the store from its beginning to eventual common place status in 1914. The book gives an insight on the factors in which the store saw success, such as the management, the labor, and new marketing. It also gives light to the social factors that made the store possible (i.e education and economy). Aristide and Marguerite established the new Bon Marché with a managerial tactic of benevolence to answer a need to maintain control over the store s performance and progress. The employees of the Bon Marché were some of the best paid employees in all of Paris, as well did they receive great in house benefits. In 1876, Aristide Boucicaut announced the establishment of a financial fund for employees. This was designed to make the employees apart of his house, or family. The methods proved so effective that even the Boucicauts eventual successors (though most having made their way up the ranks of the store) continued their system. In part three, Miller gives life to the Bon Marché; the store slowly but surely becomes a part of the bourgeoisie class and social culture, giving them such practices as displaying art, selling nouveautés, a library of books, and a venue for concerts. The store attracts a certain kind of upper class. They wished to be able to take part in something as close to the middle class as possible. The store added more middle class employees and merchandising items that personified middle class values; the Bon Marché helped construct the new idea of how the middle class looked and acted. The Bon Marché is a well researched, well drafted, and well organized book of whose argumentation is linear and sequential. The book would excite business historians with the ideas of merchandising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having lived in the US for six months, not long enough to completely get rid of my Vietnamese origin, I sometimes find it difficult to preserve my cultural traditions while living in American environment, which requires me to be completely assimilated into it. Going to school, I no longer have to wear in traditional dress, no longer have to bend my body for 90 degree to greet an adult, and no longer have to wait for adults on dinner table to eat first before I start to eat. Flashing back to what I used to traditionally do in Vietnam, I feel regretful, ashamed, and especially confused whether these changes are assimilation, or just simply accommodation. Yet, I can assert certainly that what I have experienced in past six months is categorized as assimilation. Due to Eric Liu s narration about his father s life, I am again clear about my experience as well as the definition of assimilation: I take American information, trends and experience and then incorporate with my existing culture. She supports this claim by first creating a character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. The first love objects for infants are their family members, particularly the boy for his mother (Oedipus complex) and then his sister if he has one, but these are always repressed. In most cases the boy successfully substitutes other women outside the family for these original choices, but neurotic patients fails to get over these conflicts and fixate on an earlier stage; he has either failed to get free from the psycho sexual conditions that prevailed in his childhood or he has returned to them. In civilized societies, this condition is relatively rare, but Freud speculates that in primitive or savage societies sexual desires have not been as successfully sublimated as in modern Europe, such that the equation between primitives, savages, and neurotics seems to him justified by the available evidence. Abstract In the last century with the invention of phase contrast microscopy by the Nobel Prize winner Frits Zernike, nucleoli were among the most con spicuous structures. The nucleolus was first de scribed between 1835 and 1839, but it had to go through another century before it was discovered to be related with a specific chromosomal locus, which marked it as a cytogenetic entity.1 At the end of the 18th century, Montgomery was the first to publish the monumental monograph, which included color figures of nuclei and nucleo li.1 Based on the Montgomery work, further studies where conducted to analyze the function of the nucleolus in the next century. In fact himself has studied nucleoli in the oocytes of over 175 differ ent species and had approached at three re markable conclusions that still hold true today: 1) In one cell there can be more than one nucleolus; 2) Cells with higher growth are presented with more and larger size; 3) The last conclusion was, the size of the cells interfere with the size of nucleolus.2 After the 1960 numerous discovers made a huge impact in the modern science, one of these is the study on the rRNA which lead to the conclusion that the nucleolus is the site of ribosomal RNA synthesis and nascent ribosome assembly.1 In the early 70s it was observed that the ribonu cleoprotein precursors to ribosomes contain two classes of protein. The Clash Of The Titans THE CLASH OF THE TITANS The War of 1812 The War of 1812 began as a result of a long fought war between Great Britain and French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte, that eventually infringed upon many of America s rights. France and Great Britain had been fighting since 1793. Napoleon was a very powerful and determined emperor who conquered much of Europe during the 19th century. The Royal Navy was very skilled at naval combat and France had a strong and capable leader that was very skilled in war tactics. The United States wanted the trade from both countries so it stayed neutral during the war. However, the U.S. became a more active participant due to forced trade sanctions and Britain s impressment of American seamen. The war is known as the War of 1812 because that is the year that America declared war on Great Britain, but the war was actually started approximately three years earlier when tensions between the Americans and the Indians escalated over westward territory expansion. Indian problems, trade sanctions, impressment all fueled the start of the War of 1812. The Americans took a neutral stance in this war and traded with both sides, Great Britain and France. Great Britain and France both tried to stop the trade between the Americans and the other party, however, Great Britain tried to restrict American trade with France by issuing the Orders in Council Act in 1807. It analyses the Third Reich and the way it s leaders approached foreign policy at the time, mainly concerning the Holocaust. There are two dominant theories to the background behind the horrific events of the Holocaust that took lives of 6 million Jews and millions of other ethnic minorities. Historians have ever since searched for evidence of the reasons behind these abominations executed by Adolf Hitler, was solely Hitler behind the Holocaust or was it the men working for his regime? In this essay I will analyse the evidence in favor for both of the theories suggested in the question and the evidence produced to support them, as well as the views of the historians at that time and now. There are two competing theories functionalist and intentionalism, however the main difficulty occurs considering the fact that there is lack of evidence on the main perpetrator behind the Jewish question (Draper, 1999, p.14). Since no single Führerbefehl (order from the Führer) has ever been found, or is ever likely to be found, historians have debated the centrality of Hitler to the development of Nazi Jewish policy (Stone, 2004, p.2) Functionalism Theory of functionalism was greatly contributed by Marxist historian Timothy Mason, whose views shined light off of Hitler being the sole mastermind behind the Holocaust, and towards the Nazi organization ... However, Cohen s article on social responsibility drew a lot attention from other scholars like Friedman. In view of this, this paper will discuss and define the concept of social responsibility of a business to its workers, stakeholders, and society; how the perspectives align with that of Drucker; comparing Cohen s opinion with that of Friedman and finally determines which of the two individual s opinion best aligns with the current business climate promoting a green environment. Concept of social responsibility According to Cohen (2009), the concept of social responsibility entail that every organization must assume the full responsibility for its impact on employees, the environment, customers, and whomever and whatever it touches (p. 31). On the other hand, Murphy (2009) explains that social responsibility pertains to an entity s ability to respond to a person, situation or issue in a certain way (p. 245). Comparatively, Carroll Buchholtz (2003) revealed that the concept of social responsibility means that organizations have moral, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities in addition to their responsibilities to earn fair return for investors and comply with the law (p. 36). This means that the society will look for major organizations where profits and nonprofit could be derived to take care of some of the ills in the society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Essay On Hume s Views On Miracles Hume s View of Miracles Much of Hume s audience, both when it wrote it and in contemporary times, is religious, or at least surrounded by a culture that is largely religious. As such, Hume spends Section X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event, then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that has the highest probability. It is the most powerful method of granting the reader insight into the personality of a character; it reveals the hidden ideas and values. The style of symbolism that is most riddled throughout the text is the attachment of ideas to colors. Some of the color based symbols used are vague, while some are specific. • 34. Problems Of The And Boundary Work Problems of Demarcation and Boundary Work One of the fundamental areas of study concerning professionals, including lawyers and scientists, is that of professional boundaries (Lamont Molnar). Where are the bounds of the profession? Who is included and who is excluded from the profession? One of the driving questions for scholars of science has been the demarcation problem, that is determining what is and is not included in science (Gieryn 1983). Historically, the social studies of science has divided between internal and external approaches, which studied the construction of science from inside and outside the professional boundaries of science respectively (Kuhn 1977). Thus externalism internalism debates in the history and sociology of science formed the central dividing line of the field until late last century (Shapin 1992). However, a contemporary consensus has emerged in science studies that the demarcation problem is essentially irrelevant to the study of science. The demarcation problem has been called a pseudo problem by those who argue that philosophically there is no reason to believe that it is possible to define necessary and sufficient conditions to separate the scientific from the non scientific. (Laudin 1983) Gieryn proposed that instead of considering demarcation as a conceptual problem, the bounds of science should be reinterpreted as a practical problem faced by scientists who have a professional need to distinguish their work from other intellectual ... Everybody goes through difficult trials and circumstances in their lives. Sometimes we carry deep wounds from these traumatic episodes in our lives. If we don t learn how to work through those episodes of trauma, we may ultimately hurt others. We then create a generational trap in which we continuously hurt others the way in which we were hurt, if not more so in the end. It becomes a generational curse and Dr. Wilson explains that the goal of counseling is to develop new ways to end the generational curses that traumatize and affect us from the inside out. When we learn new ways to cope and to heal, we then are able to end the viscous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asia has been through many experiences following the colonization of those Western countries. These experiences both include the good and the bad side of being colonized, namely the many different influences like cultures, ideologies, and many other things shared to us by the Western people, but the bad side of being colonized will not be forgotten. The Naxalites control territory throughout Bihar, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh states and claim to be supported by the poorest of the rural population, especially the Adivasis. The Naxalites have frequently targeted tribal, police and government workers in what they say is a fight for improved land rights and more jobs for neglected agricultural labourers and the poor. The Naxalites claim that they are following a strategy of rural rebellion similar to a protracted people s war against the government. The first combat deaths of the insurgency were in 1980. Around 1,100 people are known to have died during 2009. The number includes 600 civilians, 300 security personnel and 200 rebels. There were more than 40,000 displaced people in 2006. According to the Institute of Peace and Conflict studies, Naxal groups have recruited children in different capacities and

  • 48. Decibel Portfolio Essay The intensity I of a sound wave is measured in watts per metre squared ( ). The lowest intensity that the average human ear can detect, i.e. the threshold of hearing, is denoted by , where . The loudness of sound, i.e. its intensity level , is measured in decibels (dB), where . From this function a specific relationship between and can be drawn that holds true for any increase in intensity. By knowing the value of beta ( ), the value of can be found via manipulation of the logarithmic function, and by knowing the value of beta can by found by just taking the log of and multiplying it by ten. The intensity level of ordinary conversation is 65 dB. In order to find the intensity of normal conversation on must set beta to 65 dB and to . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The values denoted by an * are values that were inserted during the investigation for this project. The process to find the values of Intensity with a given Intensity Level was already mentioned, but the process in order to find Intensity Level by knowing the Intensity of a sound was not. In order to find intensity level beta (b) from the equation one just takes the logarithm of and multiplies it by ten. The finding of the intensity level of a quiet radio by knowing its intensity will be the example to test the method. After carrying out this process and the other to find all the missing values, a relationship between the increase of the values can be discerned. By carefully analyzing the table above, it can is concluded that while Intensity Level increase ten units, Intensity increase 10 times. By using a graphing utility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
