Hardwood Floor Research Paper
A Hardwood floor installation is possibly the wisest investment that an individual could do to their
house. A hardwood floor can contribute to one s home decor and generally make the home more
presentable to visitors. Unfortunately preparing for, installing, and finishing a hardwood floor is
usually an undertaking that a professional should do. However, if you feel you are up to the task here
are some steps to help you understand the process.
1. Gather together the needed tools and materials.
One pitfall that people seem to get into is when they do not entirely have the right tools for the project.
Moreover, this is one installation project that will basically demand the right tools or there will be
areas where the finished example will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that the wood will expand or contract based on the amount of moisture in the wood. The
wood is acclimated by opening and spreading out the wood. If this step proves problematic, consider
using engineered word because it does not require an acclimating process. 4. Roll out the wood. Make
certain that the first row of the wood is as straight as it can be. The reason is because everything that
you lay after this point will be based on the straight roll of wood. A straight beginning wood will make
your future rolls to be very tidy looking. On the other hand, if the wood is clumsily laid it will impact
the remainder of your hardwood.5. Lay the wood. This important step is usually accomplished by Top
nailing and gluing the boards. A word to the wise: there will be scenarios where sometimes the nailing
gun will be able to make it in the crannies of your home. One way to combat this is to use scrap
boards for these areas. 6. Finish the wood. This is perhaps the most important step in wood flooring
enterprise and is not a place to cut corners on. First of all, begin to cut boards lengthwise so they will
fit. Second, cut your contours according to your instruction manual. Third, make sure that you remove
any spacers, and finally attach trim and

Julius Caesar Thesis
Gaius Julius Caesar, a man of honor, born on 13 July 100 BCE, is currently on the look to be our next
supreme ruler of the Roman Republic. He has been offered the crown three times to become our
Republic s new emperor after his astounding victory at the Battle of Munda. Even though most
prestigious generals would gladly accept the offer to rule this civilized republic, he did not. Not only is
Julius Caesar a great general, but he has also claimed descent from Ascanius, King of Alba Longa; son
of Trojan Prince Aeneas; son of Prince Anchises and goddess Venus. Julius Caesar, as he is most
commonly known, had a moderately tough childhood just like any other civilian out there. When he
was just sixteen years old, his father, Gaius Julius Caesar(Sr.), ... Show more content on

His first marriage was with Cornelia Cinna minor, daughter of Lucius Cornelius Cinna, Roman consul
that has served four terms under the political party known as the Populares. Caesar was ordered to
divorce Cornelia immediately by Lucius Cornelius Sulla, who was, at the time, Roman consul. Caesar
denied to divorce her and proceeded with his regular life. Cornelia was also Julia Caesaris mother.
Julia is the only biological and undisputed heir of Julius Caesar. After Cornelia died in the year 69
BCE, Caesar instantaneously remarried to Pompeia, daughter of Quintus Pompeius Rufus. Caesar later
divorced Pompeia because of rumors going around that are not known. After this, Caesar married
Calpurnia, daughter of Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus.Caesar and Calpurnia are still married to
this day. Enough about Julius Caesar s personal life; now let s talk about Julius Caesar s rise to being
offered the crown. In 73 BCE he was elected into the Pontifex, or the College of Pontiffs. Then, in 72
BCE he was elected into the military tribune, where he gained a lot of fame and recognition. He
obtained a seat in the senate around the same time he married Pompeia. In the year 63 BCE, when he
was only 37 years old, he was elected as the Pontifex Maximus. The Pontifex Maximus as most of you
are aware is the highest and most prestigious title when it comes to Roman polytheism.

The Religious And Theological Dimensions Of Ralph Ellison...
M. Cooper Harriss s monograph, Ralph Ellison s Invisible Theology, brings into focus the religious
and theological dimensions of Ralph Ellison s authorship. Against reductive tendencies of materialist
and secular accounts of racial identity, Harriss argues that Ellison s understanding of race,
characterized as an invisible theology in a secular age, makes possible a reconsideration of the relation
between race, religion, and secularism. In order to bring the religious aspects of racial life into view,
Harriss proceeds along two lines: genealogically, he situates Ellison s writings in an array of religious
and theological contexts. These include, for example, attending to different genealogies of invisibility
which inflect Ellison s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harriss s contention is not that racial formation in Ellison should be thought of as a religious instead
of a secular concept; rather, it is that race is a secular concept precisely because it is internally
indivisible from religious antecedents (191). Given this network of connections, Harriss s book
belongs next to recent studies which explicate the dynamic crossings between race, religion, and
secularism (e.g., Theodore Vial, Modern Religion, Modern Race, Oxford University Press, 2016).
Second, Invisible Theology marshals the resources of religious studies to foreground unappreciated
dimensions of literary texts. Harriss s book particularly stands with other studies engaging the
neglected religious aspects of twentieth century African American literature (e.g., Josef Sorett, Spirit
in the Dark: A Religious History of Racial Aesthetics, Oxford University Press, 2016). Harriss s
distinctive methodological points are noteworthy: naming the presence of religion and theology in
Ellison s fiction does not depend on its belonging to a confessional standpoint; instead, taking cues
from the hermeneutical tradition which includes Schleiermacher, Geertz, and Tillich, Harriss means
for these characterizations to specify a negotiation of hyphenated and oppositional identities (say,
racial and national), and the process

Health Development Corporation Essay
9 200 049 REV: JANUARY 9, 2003 RICHARD S. RUBACK Health Development Corporation Mr.
Paul Couturier, the CEO of Health Development Corporation (HDC), was negotiating the sale of his
company in the spring of 2000. The Company, which owned and managed health clubs in the Greater
Boston area, had retained a local investment firm, Kaufman Co., to solicit bids. They received several
bids from national or regional health club companies seeking to establish themselves in the Boston
area. The bids were lower than expected, largely because of the way the bidding companies
considered HDC s ownership of Lexington Club s real estate. Like most health clubs, HDC generally

In 1999, HDC had the option to purchase the Lexington Club real estate for $6.5 million The
Company had not purchased real estate in the past for two reasons. First, as a small privately held
company, HDC preferred to use its limited capital to add, expand, or enhance clubs. Second, leasing
property allowed the company to reduce its risk by keeping real estate costs proportional to revenue.
In the case of the Lexington property, however, HDC management determined that the lease payments
were substantially greater than the costs of owning the real estate. After attempting unsuccessfully to
renegotiate the lease payments downward, HDC decided to purchase the Lexington Club property.
The Company financed the Lexington Club purchase with $750,000 of excess cash and a mortgage for
$5,750,000 at an interest rate of 8.75%. The Offers to Purchase Kaufman Company solicited bids for
HDC in February 2000. In exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement, potential bidders
received an information memorandum that provided a detailed description of the Company, its
operations, and its financial results. Potential bidders were also given the opportunity to visit the
health clubs and to interview management. Five potential buyers submitted bids. HDC, with the
advice of Kaufman Co., decided to focus on the bid by Town Sports International (TSI). TSI had a
large share of the New York health club market, with 67 clubs, but only five clubs in the Boston
market. TSI

The Bad Sides Of Evil In Shakespeare s Hamlet As A Bad Man
Hamlet as a Bad Man The Hamlet is one of the greatest plays by Shakespeare, which provides an
account of an example of the Victorian royal feud. The main character of the play, Hamlet, whose
characters help in providing the directions for the play, depicts different demeanors depending on how
one views him. It is normative for a prince to orchestrate the revenge for the death of his father,
especially if the killer occupies the throne that one is an heir of. The play, therefore, may help in
depicting Hamlet as a bad person in different views in terms of the political crisis that his kingdom
was going through.
The Bad Sides of Hamlet The book The Hamlet by Shakespeare provides an account of a political
crisis that enveloped the kingdom of Denmark. King Claudius murdered his brother and married his
wife queen Gertrude because of malice. The king had a beautiful wife, was prosperous and ruled the
kingdom, all to the envy of his brother. Hamlet, the son of the slain king, was an orderly and well
behaved prince as the play begins. He is in love with Ophelia, and befriends many of the workers in
the palace, until his father s ghost appears to him and exposes to him the truth, requiring him to
avenge the death of his father; So art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear... (Shakespeare). It is
evident that evil resided in the heart of Hamlet all these while, for from the time the ghost insinuated
at exposing to him who killed his father he retorted, Haste me to know, that I,

The Vapor Absorption System
1.4 VAPOR ABSORPTION SYSTEM
The attention of the vapor absorption system is growing in the past two decades. The major two
advantages are growing up this technology that is low carbon emission technology and low electrical
energy required. This system is operated with the help of low heating sources like solar power,
geothermal, waste heat, low pressure steam, and it contributes significant energy conservation.
Ecofriendly working fluid leads to reduce the global warming and ozone layer depletion. The
following reason is also growing the research interest of the system. It is suitable for small to very
large capacity. Operating cost is too less when compared with other commercial technology, and it is
required very less electrical energy to operate the pump. Less maintenance cost because of heat
exchangers and there are no moving parts in the system. The installation can be done in a remote area,
and it is movable. The system can be operated at various cold and refrigeration ranges from 15 to 25
°C.
1.4.1 Overview of Absorption Technology
William Cullen and Nairne invented the mechanical vapor compression system in 1755 and, it is one
of the oldest refrigeration device operated based on the absorption refrigeration principle. He made ice
by the distilling effect of evaporating the air. He placed water in contact with air under the receiver of
a vacuum pump. The pump accelerated evaporation of the air and the temperature significantly
reduced and; it freezes the water

Great Depression And The Great Recession
The Great Depression and the Great Recession are two of the darkest times in American history. There
is much debate about the cause of the Great Depression and how it differed from the cause of the
Great Recession. Many people believe that the stock market crash of 1929 played a major role the
Great Depression. On the other hand, the stock market crash of 2008 drove America into the Great
Recession. The causes of stock market crashes are often unforeseen, but many have detectable
indicators. There are many differences between the 1929 stock market crash and the 2008 stock
market crash, but we can learn more from the similarities between the two. The credit boom of the
1920 s is one of the things that contributed most to the stock market crash on 1929 and then the
eventual cause of the Great Depression. We find that the credit boom view provides a useful
perspective on both the boom of the 1920s and the subsequent slump. In particular, it directs attention
to the role played by the structure of the financial sector and the interaction of finance and innovation.
(Eichengreen) As many people know today, having a credit card and going shopping without realizing
exactly how a credit card works can put the user in a tough situation. After a person puts something on
credit they must pay it back at a later date. In the 1920 s the credit boom was where people had started
to use credit more frequently and were getting carried away with the idea of credit. People putting

Causes And Disadvantages Of Smartphone Addiction
INTRODUCTION Smartphones addiction is when you use a smartphone even when you know that
you should not use it or when you make excuses for it usefulness. In early times, people made and
received phone calls using cellular phones. However, nowadays, cellular phones are often small
computers (i.e., smartphones ) as new technology has evolved. For example, people can watch movies
and listen to music on one of these devices. Therefore, the global smartphone market grew rapidly in
2010 compared with the previous years. With every passing day, technology is overtaking our daily
lives. In fact, 56 percent of all Americans own one. The phone, computer, tablet and other high tech
devices have become not just an object, but for many a best friend. Malay Mail s recent social
experiment shows that many, from teenagers to adults, are not able to switch off their smartphones.

But when we succumb to smartphone addiction, we become slaves to our phone. This affects our
relationships, work, and life. In addition, we ll have more time and energy to build meaningful
relationships, serve others, and make a contribution to our community. All because our eyes aren t
continually glued to a small, glowing LCD screen. Things that you can do to prevent smartphone
addiction is to lock your phone with an annoyingly long password. Most people set a short password
so they can unlock their phone quickly. But to prevent the addiction, set a long password instead.
Make it at least 15 characters long, and include symbols and uppercase letters. The inconvenience of
unlocking your phone means that you won t use your phone mindlessly. Other than that is you can turn
off your phone before going to bed and leave it to charge outside your bedroom. It can be tempting to
use your phone in the middle of the night, but you won t if it takes too much effort to even get to your

Allusions In The Chronicles Of Narnia
One Christian man who utilized and clearly enjoyed literature both of fiction entertainment and non
fiction as a means of spreading the Christian worldview is C. S. Lewis. Lewis, though the joys of the
sub genre of fantasy, managed to create an entertaining story while also upholding and spreading the
Christian worldview. One of his most famous works, The Chronicles of Narnia, is a series filled with
magic and the impossible, but the entire series is riddled with allusions to the Bible, allusions that fell
into place because of his Christian faith. The creation of Narnia (The Magician s Nephew, Chapter 9)

Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories. There is a feeling
of greatness and satisfaction in reading and thinking about different situations, of looking at things
form the point of view of another. It is here, in the art of story and of writing fantastical literature, in
which I have found both my passion and, as I believe at this time in my life, calling. There is more to
telling a story than simply pulling story elements from thin air. In a miniscule nutshell, it takes, to
various degrees, planning, delving into psychology, and research. A good story takes imagination,
work, prayer, and, of course, a good deal of coffee. It has been twelve years since I first discovered the
joy of writing, and since then, the desire and joy of this action of creation has only grown, much like a
seed of a great oak tree. To me, there are few things that match the euphoria of writing and completing
a story, or even just a chapter in a manuscript. I have a passion for both writing and reading:
indulgences (in the right moderation) which tend to go hand in hand. After all, what greater teacher for

Emily Dickinson Paper

Written word is perhaps the most powerful medium that humans have created to express their
thoughts. A person can express a myriad of emotions through pen and paper, ranging from hope and
happiness to morbid obsessions and anxiety. Written words, unlike spoken words, are for eternity.
Once a thought is written down, anyone can read it, interpret it, ponder it, or question it, until it is
destroyed. On the other hand, if a thought is spoken, it exists only for a second and then exists only in
the minds of the one who uttered it and those who heard it. Only those who were present can interpret,

Thomas Hardy s Treatment Of Women In Wessex Tales
The Role Of Women in Thomas Hardy s Wessex Tales In this piece I will be showing the role of
women in the 18th century around the time the Wessex Tales has been set. I will be showing the ways
Thomas Hardy expresses his opinion in the way that some of the women act and showing the harsh
reality that women had to face in the 18th century. The daughter s seclusion was great, but beyond the
seclusion of the girl lay the seclusion of the father. If her social condition was twilight, his was
darkness. Yet he enjoyed his darkness, while her twilight oppressed her. This quote comes from The

However Phyllis still wants to run away with Mathias, a soldier from the York Hussar s. At this point
Dr Grove puts another obstacle in Phyllis s way by saying that she is going to stay with her aunt who
is supposed to be even worse than her father. This shows that Phyllis has no rights for as long as she
lives with her father she cannot do as she pleases. However on the night of Phyllis s and Mathias s
Departure Phyllis sees Humphrey Gould in a coach driving towards her house. Phyllis thinks that
Humphrey has come back to marry her however she still wants to go with Mathias. Her promise must
be kept, and esteem must take the place of love. She would preserve her self respect. She would stay
at home, and marry him, and suffer. This quotation shows that although Humphrey Gould has left her
for so long she will marry to keep her self respect by keeping her promise to Humphrey and not
disrespect herself or her family. This sort of Social Hierarchy is also shown in The Son s Veto .

Pteropods are shelled animals about the dimension a small pea that are consumed by several animals
of almost every size which range from krill to dolphins. Pteropods are at the bottom of many food
chains and a decrease in their numbers can possibly destroy the chances of survival of multiple species
and not only those of the ocean. However, these small creatures are challenged by the accelerating
ocean acidification and thus, their shell formation hampered due to the deficiency of free calcium

Mustard Seed Supplier In Western Canad Article Summary
Economic Journal Summary of the article The third largest mustard seed supplier in Western Canada
has experienced a shortage of crops. India is another supplier of mustard seed and rapeseed and have
increased their prices to 20%, due to the heat wave that is expected at end of October. Due to this price
increase and the low supply of seeds, companies like Kraft Heinz Co and Reckitt Benckiser, have been
forced to raise the prices of their good, smaller companies with low consumers have been most
affected by this situation. Many exporters are panic buying due to scarcity. Many businesses owners

They strive best in cool climates with some moisture. They need well drained, loamy and fertile soil to
grow sufficiently. These conditions make Canadian grounds a very difficult place to grow mustard.
Since we have a climate that fluctuates between seasons, the only months that we are able to host the
breeding of mustard is in the fall seasons. This time period is not enough for mustard to grow to its
maximum potential and is far from efficient. After conducting some research, I do not believe that
Canadian farmers should continue to grow mustard because it is putting a strain on the Canadian
economy. This is because farmers who are planting mustard are not receiving high rates of crop
returns due to the unfavourable climate conditions, as a result they are not able to supply the
anticipated amounts of mustard and can not earn their maximum profit. Canadian governments are
gaining a bad reputation from the mustard shortage because the demanded amount of mustard is not
being satisfied with the scarce supply of mustard. Consumers are also also upset because prices of
mustard are higher than what it was before this mustard crisis, therefore many want the product, but
are not able to afford it. Businesses are also angry because they now have to pay more for the price of
mustard and have to compete against other businesses for the supply of mustard and are losing
consumers because they are being pushed to raise the prices of their goods. Therefore, they are not
able to meet their maximum potential because mustard is at disequilibrium, since demand exceeds

Willy Loman Family Members
Loman Family Members Analysis Modern day America has always put ambition, goals, and success
on a pedestal in society. Individuals all over the nation are working hard on turning their visions into
reality. The playwright of Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, wanted to show how Americans were
doing everything they can to move up in the success ladder. In theory, I believe Miller wanted to
illustrate, through the Loman family members, the immersive experience of trying to succeed in the
20th century era. First, Willy Loman symbolizes many fathers in the United States that failed in
fulfilling their dreams. Realism is a reflection on how life was like in the 20th century. Willy shows
realism through his repeated failed attempts at reaching success like many fathers and the negative
impacts he has on his family. Moreover, numerous of fathers during this era were sacrificing

relaxers that you can buy in the store but they aren t as effective as salon products. Maintaining

Michael Buckley s Witness Film Analysis
How does Buckley s Witness create viewer sympathy?
In society, both past and present, individuals with mental illnesses are judged and stigmatized for their
inabilities and differences. The Australian filmmaker, Michael Buckley explores this aspect of society
through his short biographical film Witness implicating the life of John Harrowell and his sufferings
due to being institutionalized at such a young age. The text runs for brief period of time, but within
that short period of time, a variety of filmic techniques are utilised to create a more emotional impact
on the viewers. Through the utilisation of three prominent filmic techniques; symbolism,
characterisation and themes, Buckley is able to effectively portray the tragic life of John ... Show more

The expressions that he creates, allows us to know exactly what he is feeling and sympathise with his
pain. Additionally, Buckley s Witness is narrated from the protagonist s perspective. This creates
empathy towards the main character, John Harrowell, as it describes what he has personally
experienced hence, the viewers thoroughly understand the events that have occurred, and can
effectively stand in his shoes, making the events more personal. Consequently, Harrowell effectively
portrays his painful experiences. By allowing the text to follow the structure of chronological
narrative, there is a structured series of events, linked by cause and effect that provide the plot of the

Cosmological Arugment
Cosmological Argument Many philosophers have provided their arguments for the existence of God.
Their arguments are a priori or a posteriori. A posteriori is based on experience of how the world is. In
which the Cosmological view of William L. Rowe comes from. This paper will show how Rowe took
the cosmological argument and its principle of sufficient reason and failed to make it an established
argument of the existence of God.
Cosmological Argument has been taking by many and divided into parts of their argument. Rowe was
influenced by the Philosophers Saint Thomas Aquinas in the thirteenth century and Samuel Clarke in
the eighteenth century. All men have similar view points, also are slightly different, and can be

For the ones who know three plus three equals does and must equal six, are not always for the
principle of sufficient reason and some even claim that the principle is false (Rowe 55). Thus I believe
that there are things and positive facts that do not need explanation.
The second of which Principles of sufficient reason is defended is by claiming that although it is not
known to be true, it is, nevertheless, a presupposition of reason, a basic assumption that rational
people make (Rowe 55). A person for principle of sufficient reason says that all of us already think
that principle of sufficient reason is true. The problem with this is that even if we do believe that
principle of sufficient reason is true, us believing in it does not make it true. I believe in one thing and
another person might believe in something completely different. Holding ones belief in some subject
does not make it true nor does it make it false.
In conclusion if one wants to hold the Cosmological Argument to prove the existence of God, then the
proof of the principle of sufficient reason needs to have more evidence. The principles of sufficient
reason are what make up the premises of Cosmological Argument in which have no evidence of being
true. Therefore one cannot use the Cosmological Argument to prove the existence of God, until the
principle of sufficient reason has more evidence to back its

Gabriel Conroy As A Repetitive Life In The Dead By James...
Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings
of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle
consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are
unable to see their uninteresting existence. In the novella The Dead by James Joyce, he uses
symbolism and contrast to portray Gabriel Conroy as a dynamic character who turns his ignorant, self
satisfied and repetitive life into a journey of self discovery. who leads an unfulfilled, apathetic, and
ignorant life through the use of symbolism and contrast Throughout the short story, Joyce uses the
literary device symbolism to show how Gabriel Conroy comes to the realization of his unsatisfying
life and that he thinks more about his unimportant actions, desires, and tedious routines than being
passionate and having an impactful life. One example of a symbol the author uses is snow, which has
multiple representations for Gabriel. Towards the beginning of the book it indicates death, paralysis,
and hidden truth, while at the end it symbolizes him seeking a new beginning filled with purity. For
instance, the quote A light fringe of snow lay like a cape on the shoulders of his overcoat and like
toecaps on the toes of his goloshes... (139) illustrates the connection Gabriel has with death as it is
metaphorically visible on him, and shows that it not only is impending on him, but

Silas Marner Relationships
This essay will analyse the ways writers represents relationships between characters. The keys of texts
that communicates values and messages such as language, form and structure. Language, the choice of
words and their characteristic is very important to show the audience how the characters change
throughout the story and lastly, the form shows the audience what kind of text it is and if it is written
to be read or performed on stage.
Silas Marner is a Victorian realist novel by George Eliot. It contains twenty one chapters within two
parts and a conclusion. The beginning of first part shows Silas life in the village of Raveloe who did
not socialise with residents with whom he lived for fifteen years. After that, in the same part he was ...

After meeting Eppie his life and attitude changed. He finds trust in God that he lost after being
banished from church. He thinks he is a gift sent by God. He became more social, even accepting an
advice from a local mother how to dress little girl. Their relationship changed his values and he
understood that gold was not that important as people. `The gold had kept his thoughts in an ever
repeated circle, leading to nothing beyond itself; but Eppie was an object compacted of changes and
hopes that forced his thoughts onward.` (Eliot, p.125) This quote shows that Eppies` appearance made
Silas understand that gold is not as important as he thought so, and life was more than only about
money and being isolated from the world.
George Eliot uses the plot and language to give a message to the audience. Throughout the story from
when Silas is isolated from others with big love for money to becoming a respected father she shows
that shows that love and relationship between people is much more important than love of money.
Even though Silas lost his beloved money that he saved for a long time, he discovered what real
happiness and love is after he becomes a Eppies` father.
A Doll s House is a naturalist play in prose by Henrik Ibsen. Similar to George Eliot he uses the plot
and language to pass a message of values and morals to the audience. The structures of the work are
the three separate acts. Through them, the author shows how Nora`s and

Viccio and Martin staff accountant Jane Ashley was assigned to work on an audit team with one senior

The next stakeholder is the clients themselves, the decision made on handling the discrepancies will
affect the future of the company and its employees, as they could be out of work if the company

them current and future revenue, again possibly affecting employees and their future earnings as well.
The last stakeholder affected by the decision is Jane herself; she has her morals and reputation to
consider as well earnings potential for the future.
The decision making process for Jane should include looking at several approaches and stakeholder
impact analysis. The stakeholders should be prioritized and the impacts on each looked at thoroughly
before a decision is made. There is not any scenario where signing off on the false information will
have a positive impact on any of the most important stakeholders. With that said, Jane should tell her
superiors that she is not comfortable signing off on the audit as it stands. In doing so she runs the risk
of losing her job, on the other hand she is taking a stand for herself and the two top stakeholders, the
bank and the suppliers. Jane must be careful in how she proceeds as confidentiality is expected.
Reporting the issue to the appropriate entities is considered a breach of that confidentiality in the US.

What Is The Future Of Toys R Us
The Future of Toys R Us The retail industry is currently going through extremely difficult times
companies need to rethink what products they sell and how they sell. Toys R Us is a prime example of
a company currently juggling this crucial problem. After recently filing for bankruptcy, they
introduced some strategic changes that they would be making to their traditional brook and mortar
stores. These changes are intended to excite the customer and to encourage them to return to their
stores. With new innovating ideas, they hope it will be enough for their existing customers, and
attractive to possible new customers. They will know soon enough if their efforts are enough. Toys R
Us has not always been the retail giant they are today. It was founded by Charles P. Lazarus; at the
time, a young entrepreneur. After returning from World War II, he contemplated what type of store he
should operate. He began selling baby furniture, but then began to carry a few toys. He noticed that
people would keep coming back to his store to shop his merchandize. The store then began to carry a
larger and larger assortment of options for his customers. In the late 1950 s, Charles restructured his
company and introduced the format that many of us have grown accustomed to when entering a Toys
R Us. The company has since grown to operate more than 800 stores around the world (History, n.d.).

Refn Film is one of the only art forms that can impact us on a deep emotional level, and perhaps that

Semi Structured Interviews
This research will be processed by using qualitative methods, specifically semi structured interview.
Semi structured interviews are a valuable research method when focus of the study is exploring
meanings and subjective perceptions (Gilham, 2000). Furthermore, semi structured interview is
appropriate when the focus of research is primarily on gaining insights and disclosure of personal
experiences or meanings.
This research will be designed to gather information about the mothers of child aged 0 5 who has been
fostered at young age. It will be focused on sharing their experiences as a foster child, how they would
want to rear their children, what was most difficult being a raised by non biological parents, and how
they would want to establish bonding with their child. If they feel their certain behaviour to the child
is caused due to personal foster history. The mothers with at least one pre school child will receive an
invitation to engage in the study. The population sample size will be determined by the constraints of
limited resources, the number of interviews to be managed and the time and resources available
(Bryman, 2012). The participants will be selected to establish range of wide spectrum including age,

The Dissolution Of Marriage Bonds
The dissolution of marriage bonds in the society today is no longer an issue spoken in hushed tones
behind doors as in previous times. Statistics have indicated an increasing rate of divorce in countries
like Belgium and Chile as being very high and only a few places like the Philippines depict low rates
(Kittleson, et.al, 2005). It is on account of these developments that we seriously ponder and guess on
what really caused the sudden rise. Is it a problem with the individual or is it society s drawback?
It is commonly quotes that half of the marriages that exist today end up in divorce. Taking the
example of Canada, latest studies have found that four in ten first marriages end in divorce (cbc.ca,
2015). What has drawn attention is not just the figures but it is the comparison between the present
and the past figures and the rate with which they are rising (Kittleson,et.al, 2005). Divorce indeed has
existed over many generations. The reasons given for divorce in society have not really changed much
but have only become more complicated because of the societal dynamics. While pursuing solutions
to this issue, strategies have been laid out just like that applied to many other problems . Such is the
case that various professionals who include researchers, scholars, sociologist s and many others have
made attempts to figure out what exactly is the source to divorce. Here, the big question is whether it
is a problem with society or with the

Gun Control Essay
The mass shooting in Roseburg, Ore. has reignited debate over gun control and gun rights in the
United States. Below are a series of questions drawn from what people have been searching for on
Google since the shooting and an attempt to answer them. What is gun control? Gun control is a broad
term that covers any sort of restriction on what kinds of firearms can be sold and bought, who can
possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a
buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the
government. Sometimes, the term is also used to cover related matters, like limits on types of

Many mass shootings have been carried out by people who were recognized by those around them as
being deeply disturbed, yet were able to own guns legally. From 1994 to 2004, federal law also
banned the sale of many types of assault rifles and high capacity magazines, but the law expired and
has not been renewed. A few states have assault weapon bans of their own that remain in place. In
fact, most gun controls exist at the state level, with New York, California, New Jersey, Maryland,
Hawaii, Rhode Island, Illinois and Massachusetts being the most restrictive. Some states have more
stringent background check systems than the federal one, for example, and some require checks before
private sales like those at gun shows. Some states require a license or permit to own a gun, but most
do not. Laws on carrying weapons vary enormously. Most states allow anyone who legally owns a gun
to carry it openly, in public, without requiring a license or permit. A few states also have no permit
requirement to carry a concealed gun. Concealed carry requires a permit in most states, but the
majority of those states grant the permits automatically to any legal gun owners who want them. States
also vary in their rules on gun possession in specific settings, like campuses and houses of worship.
For example, in Rhode Island, any person with a concealed carry permit can bring a gun onto the

Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Essay
Although Hardin states reasonable facts against helping the poor in his essay, Lifeboat Ethics , he
overlooks key factors which would contradict with his point of view. Hardin is against the sharing of
resources because in his opinion the population growth rates of the poorer countries are much higher
as opposed to the wealthier. He claims that if resources are shared equally amongst refugees in
LEDCs, in 21 years, each American would have to share the available resources with more than eight
people. What Hardin overlooks when making this statement is that the mean wealth is tied in with the
mean birthrate. Reports today show that as the wealth of one rises, they have less children. This is
proof that as the wealth of a country rises, the birthrate would then decrease. If this not be the case, for
which there is a slight possibility, Hardin s argument may be valid.
Hardin s observation of the comparatively higher birthrate of the poor compared to the lower birthrate
of the rich is in fact correct but only to some extent. Pre industrialization in the so called, first world
countries, there were values of high birthrates. The industrialization in these MEDCs cause a drastic
decrease in fertility in the countries affected. This started in Europe, ... Show more content on

What Hardin oversees is that an international depository of food reserves would give the poor a
chance to develop, which would in turn spark an increase in wealth, hence, there would be a decrease
in birthrate. He also overlooks that practitioners may have ideas of using technology to solve some of
these problems. Hardin claims that farming crops for the poor would occupy America s land, which
turns to be an insignificant claim as due to the advancement in technology, we could easily use
vertical and rooftop gardening as a more compact and reasonable

Models For Diffusion Of Innovations Among Potential Adopters
Models for diffusion of innovations among potential adopters have been recently used to study the life
cycle of new products and to forecast first purchase sales. Those models are useful for managers as
decision aids to create and perform strategies to maintain the profitability of new products across their
life cycle. Bass (1969) pioneered this area of research with a model for diffusions of new products
under peer pressure via word of mouth. This model distinguished two parameters: innovation and
imitation. Later, Chatterjee and Eliashberg (1990) provided a microeconomic version of Bass s model
that included interactions among potential adopters and the formation of beliefs.
In Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model, potential adopters were risk averse and used the price and their
perceptions about the innovation s performance as inputs for utility functions. Thus, with Bayesian
methods, potential adopters updated parameters with information from past adopters. Our model also
focuses on informational influence on adoption of new products. However, we modified Chatterjee
and Eliashberg s model of beliefs formation and individual choice by taking into account the
possibility that influences take place only among consumers who are connected in a social network.
The objective of this article is twofold. First, we seek to determine how global parameters of the social
network, such as average path length and clustering, affect diffusion processes. Second, we attempt to
identify early

Seventh Grade Probability Carnival
The seventh grade probability carnival was one of the highlights of my fall term. Throughout the
preparation, execution and reflection phases of the carnival, I truly enjoyed myself and felt as though I
learned a lot about both experimental the theoretical probability.
In total, 42 second grade students and teachers played my game during the probability carnival. Out of
those 42, five won two tickets, four won three tickets, six won four tickets, four won five tickets, five
won six tickets, three won seven tickets, four won eight tickets, and five won the jackpot amount,
which was nine tickets, as displayed in the table below:
Since my game cost only one ticket to play, and the lowest possible amount of tickets that you could
win was two, the probability of gaining tickets in my game was 100%, or 1/1. Since the numbers of
winners in each category of my game was not very spread out, neither were the experimental
probabilities. In total, the experimental probabilities of winning two, three, five and nine tickets were
all 5/42. The experimental probabilities of winning eight and five tickets were both 2/21, and the
experimental probabilities of winning seven and four tickets were 1/14 and 1/7. All in all, I had a very

Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France
Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining
what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men, causes
great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by allowing the
reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate them. De France
does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf, Bisclavret may start
out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and innocent, but there lied a
monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human being, and his wife s
monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without. The themes gathered
from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and the wife who may be at
first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to modify the stereotypes of
what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy, and his beautiful wife, an
unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a trustworthy, loving wife, until she
reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really is. Her character is the very thing,
which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster and the truth about monsters within.
The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond

Social Norms In Society
We live in a society of expectations. These expectations subconsciously shape our mannerisms on a
day to day basis. Stemming from these controlled mannerisms are social norms. Social norms are the
traits that have come to be typical over time because they have been shaped by our surroundings and
our everyday interactions. When a norm is broken, society reacts by entering into shock. In a social
experiment, I tested the reaction of society when I broke a social norm. For my experiment, I violated
a folkway. I went to get my hair cut at my normal salon. This salon is an upscale, boutique blow dry
bar and salon. There were many women in there who were getting their hair done. I have been going
to that salon for years, and have come to know all of the employees and stylists. I had an appointment
with my regular stylist who has cut my hair ever since I was little. I usually always go for a trim of
about an inch and a blow dry after. This time, when my stylist asked me what I wanted, I looked her in
the eye and said, take it all off. I was asking her to shave my head completely. The reaction of the
people in the salon was one of shock. My hairdresser at first, looked at me and laughed as if I was
joking. I then had to say, no really, take it all off. This is when she started to look panicked. She then

Invention Of Electronic Music
One of the largest contributors to electronic music today is Thaddeus Cahill (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic
Music). His telharmonium was created with an assembly of rotary generators and telephone receivers
to convert electronic signals to into sound (Lejaren Hiller). He developed his invention from 1895 and
continued to work on it even though there were no ways for the sounds being created from the
electrical signals to be heard. Speakers or amplifiers were non existent for some time even after the
development of Cahill s invention, and his instrument was the ancestor of present day electronic music
synthesizers (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). Furthermore, Cahill s invention spurred the
development of other electric instruments such as the electronic organ. In the 1920s, more electronic
instruments were invented, some of which being monophonic meaning that only one note could be
played at a time (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). One of the more common monophonic electric
instruments was the theremin invented by Russian scientist Leon Theremin (Britannica, Theremin
Musical Instrument). The theremin produces sine waves and is a box with radio tubes producing
oscillation at two sound wave frequencies above the range of hearing; together they produce a lower
audible frequency equal to the difference in their rates of vibration (Britannica, Theremin Musical

Age and Language Learning
Age and Language Learning What exactly is the relationship between age and language learning?
There are numerous myths and misconceptions about the relative abilities or inabilities of language
learners of different ages. Do children learn language faster? Is it impossible for adults to achieve
fluency? In a word no. These and other common beliefs are simply not true. Children do not
necessarily learn faster than adults and, in fact, adults may learn more efficiently. Furthermore, there is
no loss of language ability or language learning ability over time. Age is not a detriment to language
learning, and by all accounts, learning a second (or third etc) language actually keeps the older
language learners mind active. People of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subjects did not have any previous knowledge of Russian, the targeted language. After three short
trainings conducted in Russian language, the results showed that the eight graders performed
significantly better than the second graders and the fourth graders. They also noticed a consistently
positive relationship with advancing age because of above average mental ability of the adults.
Politzer and Weiss (as quoted in Singleton, 1989) have conducted another study in which they found
that an advantage of SLA for older learners than younger ones. Their subjects were second, fifth,
seventh and ninth graders. The experimental procedures were consisted of an auditory discrimination
test, a pronunciation test and a reading test among 257 pupils. They recorded a gradual improvement
of scores with an increase age in all three tests. Other researchers of SLA interested in assessing
phonological skills of learners suggest a common belief that younger learners acquire a native like
accent in the target language. Dunkel and Pillet (reported in Singleton, 1989) compared the
proficiency in French between elementary school pupils and beginning students of French from the
university. They found that the younger learners pronunciation was better than that of the older ones.

Alfred Adler s Influence On Personality
Introduction
Alfred Adler, the founding father of Individual Psychology was one of the first theorists to suggest
that birth order influences personality ( Gustafson, 2010). As what is expected of the oldest is different
than the middle or youngest child. Adler started with this idea on birth order and others have
continued down this path of research. Having lived through WWI, Serving as a physician, with the
Austrian Army at the Russian front, and then in a children s hospital (Adler, 2014). He was in a unique
position to study people specifically children in the aftermath of war.
Biography portion
Alfred Adler (1870 1937) was born in Penzing, Austria, the 2nd son of a Jewish grain merchant. In
poor health as a child, he did not walk until age four because of rickets; at age five Adler developed
pneumonia and was a close call for him, (Adler.2014). This was only a few of his childhood struggles.
In 1895 he received his medical degree from the University of Vienna (Schultz, 2011, p330). He
specialized in ophthalmology and practiced general medicine. When he became interested in
psychiatry in 1902, he joined Sigmund Freud s weekly discussion group on psychoanalysis, one of
four charter members (Schultz, 2011, p330). He was the first president of Freud s Vienna
Psychoanalytic Society, but was later voted out over disagreements with Freud single minded focus on
the male sex organ or the lack one depending on client s gender. In 1911, Adler split with Freud

Batman As Superheros
For many, a superhero must have certain qualities. People want a superhero that is loyal, selfless,
smart and strong. These characteristics are what many superheroes in comic books have; and in the
early twentieth century, many teen boys were turning to for guidance. Batman was created for the kids
who did not have it very easy. Batman saw both of his parents murdered and became a vigilante to
fight off crime. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman for the better and portrays the better qualities of a
hero as opposed to Dr. Jekyll in the book, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert
Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll changes himself from a good man to an evil man. Much like many other
superheroes, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Some heroes may not have an alter ego like
mythological heroes. Heroes are able to have all different sorts of characteristics; it just depends on
their story. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray has used his portrait to be
eternally young and learns to see evil as beautiful (150). Unlike Dorian, Batman is everything but
selfish and risks everything for the better of man kind. Batman will always be the superhero that kids
can look up to and know is going to give everything he has to better this world. When it comes to
super human powers, that is where Batman lacks. He has no powers to his human self that make him
who he is. Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne who is a very intelligent businessman of Gotham
City, this

God s Principles Of God
God designed nature so meticulously perfect that His imprint is obvious in every living thing. Some
scientists want to explain away God. Steven Hawking, once an advocate of belief, in God, suddenly
changed his mind. He stated that science offers a more convincing explanation for the origins of the
universe, and that the miracles of religion aren t compatible with scientific fact. Although very
unreasonable, this change of heart exhibits one of God s basic gifts to the human race: free choice.
God will not force people to accept Him.
Creationists and evolutionists will argue about the beginning of mankind until the end of mankind.
There have been many famous scientists whose works have included God. Nicholas Copernicus, Sir
Francis Bacon, and Galileo Galilei, to name a few, believed whole heartedly in a higher being.
Although there are many more scientists that align themselves with faith, it seems the more educated a
person is, the more likely they are not to believe in God. The human ego wants to believe that we are
the center of the universe. It believes we are in control and superior to all things. People called
evolutionists are consumed with ego which is an acronym for Edging God Out. They make
observations and come to conclusions, but refuse to see the obvious fact: that without God as the
mastermind of creation, nature would not exist in harmony. We do not exist by chance. Einstein s
famous epithet on the uncertainty principle was God does not play

Denzel Washington of Mount Vernon, New York was born on December 28, 1954 who is known today
as a famous actor because of all the big movies he has taken part of and the big roles he has played
which have turned out to be hits all over the country. But before he made it big time he had to make
his way up in the movie industry and he did this in 1981 when he made his first movie appearance in
Carbon Copy (1981) with George Segal who was already had a name for himself and was an
established actor at the time. Throughout the 1980 s Denzel had been a part of not only movies but

Denzel Washington played the role of Professor Melvin Tolson who coaches the debate team at Wiley
and almost goes undefeated the whole season. The debate team consisted of four African American
students, there was a female student and three male students. The team has so much success that they
are invited to debate versus Harvard University and end up defeating them. During the season and
versus Harvard the subjects that they debated about deal with racial discrimination, inequality, and
human civil rights mistreatments. Throughout the movie there is racist acts happening around and
against not only the students and Mr. Tolson but the whole African American community. Although
this movie is based on a true story it happened a little different in history, instead of Wiley College
going head to head with Harvard University they actually debated against University of Southern
California who at that time was defending champions. They ended up defeating the defending
champions and it was a big deal because in this time it was a lot of discrimination between the whites
and the blacks. This movie relates to the real world as far as it mimicking true events that happened in
history and having it deal with the debating makes it be a very political point in

How To Describe A House Essay
The street I live on has a lot of houses on it, and mine just happens to be one of them. Each house has
its own driveway each one unique in its own way. Most of them are paved driveways, but mine
happens to be made from hard pack. I can picture the driveway when it was built, still in the same
place and still being made of rocks. The driveway to my house is a narrow driveway about as wide as
one and ½ car widths. The driveway separates my house from my neighbors and serves as a place to
park cars. It s not perfect and doesn t appear to have been made by professionals. It doesn t have sharp
clean edges, instead it just fades away at the ends. Its composition is not uniform. Millions of small
rocks scattered throughout the driveway, each rock varying in size from a grain of sand, to a small
stone the size of a ping pong ball. Each rock varying in color, size, shape, and type of rock making
each one unique. A strip of grass runs down the length of one side forming a boundary between the
driveway and my neighbor s house. A small concrete wall runs down the length of the driveway
closest to my house and extends out a couple feet. On the wall is a pit of white colored gravel which is
used for drainage. This allows rain dripping from the roof to land in a gravel pit instead of allowing
rain to erode the surface of the driveway. It has some weeds growing along the edges that sometimes
invade bits of the driveway sprouting up in almost random locations nowhere near the grass.

What You Pawn I Will Redeem And The Swimmer
Alcoholism seems to be a common obstacle in everyone s lives. Whether one is trying to overcome a
problem or the possibility of knowing someone who is, which also seems to be a common
characteristic for the main characters in each of the stories What You Pawn I Will Redeem by Sherman
Alexie and The Swimmer by John Cheever. These two stories share motifs, symbols and themes. The
most obvious contrasts are as follows; the point of view for each of these stories is different. In
Alexies story, it is told in the first person view, for a reason too. In Cheever s story, it is presented to us
in the third person point of view. Each story s is told is to emphasize how alcoholism can affect one s
ability to perceive time, and make decisions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exemplified best when Neddy reaches the Welcher s property were the pool is found to be

around him becomes very hostile, passing cars ridicule him as he crosses a busy road, the public pool
has burdening regulation and is chaotic to navigate and the Halloran s enlighten Neddy of his own
financial ruin The stories both progress in similar ways. TELL ME WHAT THAT WAY IS.
INTERVALS? Alexie s story progressed hour to hour in the sense that Neddy swims from pool to
pool. Each pool can be seen as Ned s timeline of Alexie s story (hour to hour). We can compare the
loss of Ned s memory to the missing hours of Jackson s story, in the sense that alcohol had a major
role to play in their blackout. Neddy and Jackson s actions and decisions are impaired by alcohol, a
common theme in these stories which is also a common problem that many people are faced with in
real life. Both of their timelines were obscured by alcohol. Referring to either one of the narrators
would be a waste of time. Money also seems to be a reoccurring motif in each of the stories. They
both seem to be always looking for it, an aspiration, a goal and, also, a common

Essay on The Meaning of Love
The Meaning of Love Love has many different meanings to different people. For a child, love is what
he or she feels for his mommy and daddy. To teenage boy, love is what he should feel for his girlfriend
of the moment, only because she says she loves him. But as we get older and wiser, love becomes
more and more confusing. Along with poets and philosophers, people have been trying to answer that
age old question for centuries: What is love? One definition of love in The Merriam Webster
dictionary is attraction based on sexual desire (439). Some people believe that love and sex are one in
the same. If two people are in love, they should be having sex. And, on the flipside, if two people are
having sex, they must be in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This passage obviously alludes to sex, but sex is not completely necessary when there is love. The
speaker in Sharon Olds Sex without Love asks, How do they do it, the ones who make love / without
love? (1 2). Love is deeper and more meaningful than just physical or sexual attraction. Love is a
feeling an emotion. Love is also defined in the dictionary as strong affection, warm attachment, and
unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for others (439). All of these definitions are completely
correct, but the dictionary does not explain how it feels to love someone. The reason that an
explanation for this feeling is not found in the dictionary may be because love is so different for each
individual person. In my experience, strong affection does not even begin to cover the sensation and
emotions a person feels when he or she is in love. Love is compared to the extraordinary sun /
splashing its light / into astonished trees in Denise Levertov s Love Poem (2 4). Like the sun, love is
great and bright and fills a person with extreme joy. Love is greater than anything else a person could
ever experience. A lover can even be better than a summer s day, as the speaker in Shakespeare s poem
suggests. He compares his lover to a summer s day by saying that she is more

Tukhachevsky and a group of senior officers from the Soviet high command were found guilty at a
closed trial of coordinating a German funded military plot inside the Red Army. This purge on the Red
Army had the same intentions as the rest of the terror to consolidate the power of Stalin and grow the
Capitalist plot against the USSR. This sparked a mass of large amounts of executions of Red Army
officers and soldiers that were taught the be military fascist plotters. In reality, all of these men were
innocent in every way. Just like in the show trials that had gripped the nation s previous the NKVD
beat confession out of all of these men. This paranoic attack on the Red Army was the tip of the ice
burger in the Great Purge. The figures of the death tolls are staggering. While the size of the Red
Army was not exactly known at this time, however during this time approximately 35,000 men were
arrested and on trial over the course of 1937 and 1938. There are two main reason for the purge of the
Red Army. The clash of Tukhachevsky and Stalin due to Stalin s demands of the Red Army. When
Stalin pushed the line with Tukhachevsky he would reboke against which Stalin sit well with.

Siblings In Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
It is amazing how siblings can be so similar yet so different. In the book Ender s Game by Orson Scott
Card, there are three siblings that all affect one another. However, both siblings affect Ender in very
different ways.
Ender s older sister Valentine is very sweet and compassionate to others. She would help Ender with
anything she could and be there for him to give advice. Ender was a lot like her, he never wanted to
hurt anybody and he was quiet but polite. Valentine was Ender s best friend, she would listen to him
and give Ender her thoughts and feedback if she felt it was necessary. She was also Ender s protector,
especially from their brother.
Peter, the oldest sibling, was stronger and bigger than Ender. He was also smart and strategic, but he
was a bit too prideful and violent. He always picked on Ender and would torment and beat him in the
games they would play. Throughout the book, Ender gets stronger and becomes a leader, but at the
same time he becomes violent like Peter. Ender gets into three fights, killing two out of the three
people. Ender realizing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

best to avoid physical conflict with others. Peter and Ender want dominance over certain things, they

playing against Ender, and Ender used great strategies during the matches. Ender ranked up a lot

Analysis Of The Narrative The Of The Farm
Sylvia is the protagonist of the narrative. From her name alone one can gather that she is a very rural
girl, her name meaning woodsy. She is a young, nine year old girl, previously from a busy
manufacturing town who moves in with her grandmother to a calm, peaceful farm. Sylvia has a true
bond with nature and it seemed as if she never had been alive at all before she came to live at the farm
(Jewett 527). Her youth and love for nature make Sylvia such an innocent girl who does not have to
experience society since she is protected by the farm. The farm is her safe haven, where she can be
independent and truly be one with nature. Although she is marginalized since she is poor, a girl, and
less focused on the outside society, she finds happiness in being excluded.
The narrative takes place in a rural community where Sylvia and her grandmother live that represents
their independence, womanhood, and peace. Their community is made up of women, and it is very
calm. Sylvia in this community finds peace compared to her old home in the manufacturing city she
states, this was a beautiful place to live in and that she never should wish to go home (Jewett 527). In
her new home Sylvia also found that she had independence and freedom, she had all the time in the
world to wander. Often times Sylvia would go out and explore her community, there was never such a
child for straying about out doors since the world was made (Jewett 527). Sylvia and her grandmother
have such a peaceful

  • 2. Hardwood Floor Research Paper A Hardwood floor installation is possibly the wisest investment that an individual could do to their house. A hardwood floor can contribute to one s home decor and generally make the home more presentable to visitors. Unfortunately preparing for, installing, and finishing a hardwood floor is usually an undertaking that a professional should do. However, if you feel you are up to the task here are some steps to help you understand the process. 1. Gather together the needed tools and materials. One pitfall that people seem to get into is when they do not entirely have the right tools for the project. Moreover, this is one installation project that will basically demand the right tools or there will be areas where the finished example will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that the wood will expand or contract based on the amount of moisture in the wood. The wood is acclimated by opening and spreading out the wood. If this step proves problematic, consider using engineered word because it does not require an acclimating process. 4. Roll out the wood. Make certain that the first row of the wood is as straight as it can be. The reason is because everything that you lay after this point will be based on the straight roll of wood. A straight beginning wood will make your future rolls to be very tidy looking. On the other hand, if the wood is clumsily laid it will impact the remainder of your hardwood.5. Lay the wood. This important step is usually accomplished by Top nailing and gluing the boards. A word to the wise: there will be scenarios where sometimes the nailing gun will be able to make it in the crannies of your home. One way to combat this is to use scrap boards for these areas. 6. Finish the wood. This is perhaps the most important step in wood flooring enterprise and is not a place to cut corners on. First of all, begin to cut boards lengthwise so they will fit. Second, cut your contours according to your instruction manual. Third, make sure that you remove any spacers, and finally attach trim and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Julius Caesar Thesis Gaius Julius Caesar, a man of honor, born on 13 July 100 BCE, is currently on the look to be our next supreme ruler of the Roman Republic. He has been offered the crown three times to become our Republic s new emperor after his astounding victory at the Battle of Munda. Even though most prestigious generals would gladly accept the offer to rule this civilized republic, he did not. Not only is Julius Caesar a great general, but he has also claimed descent from Ascanius, King of Alba Longa; son of Trojan Prince Aeneas; son of Prince Anchises and goddess Venus. Julius Caesar, as he is most commonly known, had a moderately tough childhood just like any other civilian out there. When he was just sixteen years old, his father, Gaius Julius Caesar(Sr.), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His first marriage was with Cornelia Cinna minor, daughter of Lucius Cornelius Cinna, Roman consul that has served four terms under the political party known as the Populares. Caesar was ordered to divorce Cornelia immediately by Lucius Cornelius Sulla, who was, at the time, Roman consul. Caesar denied to divorce her and proceeded with his regular life. Cornelia was also Julia Caesaris mother. Julia is the only biological and undisputed heir of Julius Caesar. After Cornelia died in the year 69 BCE, Caesar instantaneously remarried to Pompeia, daughter of Quintus Pompeius Rufus. Caesar later divorced Pompeia because of rumors going around that are not known. After this, Caesar married Calpurnia, daughter of Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus.Caesar and Calpurnia are still married to this day. Enough about Julius Caesar s personal life; now let s talk about Julius Caesar s rise to being offered the crown. In 73 BCE he was elected into the Pontifex, or the College of Pontiffs. Then, in 72 BCE he was elected into the military tribune, where he gained a lot of fame and recognition. He obtained a seat in the senate around the same time he married Pompeia. In the year 63 BCE, when he was only 37 years old, he was elected as the Pontifex Maximus. The Pontifex Maximus as most of you are aware is the highest and most prestigious title when it comes to Roman polytheism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Religious And Theological Dimensions Of Ralph Ellison... M. Cooper Harriss s monograph, Ralph Ellison s Invisible Theology, brings into focus the religious and theological dimensions of Ralph Ellison s authorship. Against reductive tendencies of materialist and secular accounts of racial identity, Harriss argues that Ellison s understanding of race, characterized as an invisible theology in a secular age, makes possible a reconsideration of the relation between race, religion, and secularism. In order to bring the religious aspects of racial life into view, Harriss proceeds along two lines: genealogically, he situates Ellison s writings in an array of religious and theological contexts. These include, for example, attending to different genealogies of invisibility which inflect Ellison s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harriss s contention is not that racial formation in Ellison should be thought of as a religious instead of a secular concept; rather, it is that race is a secular concept precisely because it is internally indivisible from religious antecedents (191). Given this network of connections, Harriss s book belongs next to recent studies which explicate the dynamic crossings between race, religion, and secularism (e.g., Theodore Vial, Modern Religion, Modern Race, Oxford University Press, 2016). Second, Invisible Theology marshals the resources of religious studies to foreground unappreciated dimensions of literary texts. Harriss s book particularly stands with other studies engaging the neglected religious aspects of twentieth century African American literature (e.g., Josef Sorett, Spirit in the Dark: A Religious History of Racial Aesthetics, Oxford University Press, 2016). Harriss s distinctive methodological points are noteworthy: naming the presence of religion and theology in Ellison s fiction does not depend on its belonging to a confessional standpoint; instead, taking cues from the hermeneutical tradition which includes Schleiermacher, Geertz, and Tillich, Harriss means for these characterizations to specify a negotiation of hyphenated and oppositional identities (say, racial and national), and the process ... • 5. Health Development Corporation Essay 9 200 049 REV: JANUARY 9, 2003 RICHARD S. RUBACK Health Development Corporation Mr. Paul Couturier, the CEO of Health Development Corporation (HDC), was negotiating the sale of his company in the spring of 2000. The Company, which owned and managed health clubs in the Greater Boston area, had retained a local investment firm, Kaufman Co., to solicit bids. They received several bids from national or regional health club companies seeking to establish themselves in the Boston area. The bids were lower than expected, largely because of the way the bidding companies considered HDC s ownership of Lexington Club s real estate. Like most health clubs, HDC generally leased their health club real estate but in 1999, HDC had taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1999, HDC had the option to purchase the Lexington Club real estate for $6.5 million The Company had not purchased real estate in the past for two reasons. First, as a small privately held company, HDC preferred to use its limited capital to add, expand, or enhance clubs. Second, leasing property allowed the company to reduce its risk by keeping real estate costs proportional to revenue. In the case of the Lexington property, however, HDC management determined that the lease payments were substantially greater than the costs of owning the real estate. After attempting unsuccessfully to renegotiate the lease payments downward, HDC decided to purchase the Lexington Club property. The Company financed the Lexington Club purchase with $750,000 of excess cash and a mortgage for $5,750,000 at an interest rate of 8.75%. The Offers to Purchase Kaufman Company solicited bids for HDC in February 2000. In exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement, potential bidders received an information memorandum that provided a detailed description of the Company, its operations, and its financial results. Potential bidders were also given the opportunity to visit the health clubs and to interview management. Five potential buyers submitted bids. HDC, with the advice of Kaufman Co., decided to focus on the bid by Town Sports International (TSI). • 6. The Bad Sides Of Evil In Shakespeare s Hamlet As A Bad Man Hamlet as a Bad Man The Hamlet is one of the greatest plays by Shakespeare, which provides an account of an example of the Victorian royal feud. The main character of the play, Hamlet, whose characters help in providing the directions for the play, depicts different demeanors depending on how one views him. It is normative for a prince to orchestrate the revenge for the death of his father, especially if the killer occupies the throne that one is an heir of. The play, therefore, may help in depicting Hamlet as a bad person in different views in terms of the political crisis that his kingdom was going through. The Bad Sides of Hamlet The book The Hamlet by Shakespeare provides an account of a political crisis that enveloped the kingdom of Denmark. King Claudius murdered his brother and married his wife queen Gertrude because of malice. The king had a beautiful wife, was prosperous and ruled the kingdom, all to the envy of his brother. Hamlet, the son of the slain king, was an orderly and well behaved prince as the play begins. He is in love with Ophelia, and befriends many of the workers in the palace, until his father s ghost appears to him and exposes to him the truth, requiring him to avenge the death of his father; So art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear... (Shakespeare). It is evident that evil resided in the heart of Hamlet all these while, for from the time the ghost insinuated at exposing to him who killed his father he retorted, Haste me to know, that I, ... • 7. The Vapor Absorption System 1.4 VAPOR ABSORPTION SYSTEM The attention of the vapor absorption system is growing in the past two decades. The major two advantages are growing up this technology that is low carbon emission technology and low electrical energy required. This system is operated with the help of low heating sources like solar power, geothermal, waste heat, low pressure steam, and it contributes significant energy conservation. Ecofriendly working fluid leads to reduce the global warming and ozone layer depletion. The following reason is also growing the research interest of the system. It is suitable for small to very large capacity. Operating cost is too less when compared with other commercial technology, and it is required very less electrical energy to operate the pump. Less maintenance cost because of heat exchangers and there are no moving parts in the system. The installation can be done in a remote area, and it is movable. The system can be operated at various cold and refrigeration ranges from 15 to 25 °C. 1.4.1 Overview of Absorption Technology William Cullen and Nairne invented the mechanical vapor compression system in 1755 and, it is one of the oldest refrigeration device operated based on the absorption refrigeration principle. He made ice by the distilling effect of evaporating the air. He placed water in contact with air under the receiver of a vacuum pump. The pump accelerated evaporation of the air and the temperature significantly reduced and; it freezes the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Great Depression And The Great Recession The Great Depression and the Great Recession are two of the darkest times in American history. There is much debate about the cause of the Great Depression and how it differed from the cause of the Great Recession. Many people believe that the stock market crash of 1929 played a major role the Great Depression. On the other hand, the stock market crash of 2008 drove America into the Great Recession. The causes of stock market crashes are often unforeseen, but many have detectable indicators. There are many differences between the 1929 stock market crash and the 2008 stock market crash, but we can learn more from the similarities between the two. The credit boom of the 1920 s is one of the things that contributed most to the stock market crash on 1929 and then the eventual cause of the Great Depression. We find that the credit boom view provides a useful perspective on both the boom of the 1920s and the subsequent slump. In particular, it directs attention to the role played by the structure of the financial sector and the interaction of finance and innovation. (Eichengreen) As many people know today, having a credit card and going shopping without realizing exactly how a credit card works can put the user in a tough situation. After a person puts something on credit they must pay it back at a later date. In the 1920 s the credit boom was where people had started to use credit more frequently and were getting carried away with the idea of credit. People putting more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes And Disadvantages Of Smartphone Addiction INTRODUCTION Smartphones addiction is when you use a smartphone even when you know that you should not use it or when you make excuses for it usefulness. In early times, people made and received phone calls using cellular phones. However, nowadays, cellular phones are often small computers (i.e., smartphones ) as new technology has evolved. For example, people can watch movies and listen to music on one of these devices. Therefore, the global smartphone market grew rapidly in 2010 compared with the previous years. With every passing day, technology is overtaking our daily lives. In fact, 56 percent of all Americans own one. But when we succumb to smartphone addiction, we become slaves to our phone. This affects our relationships, work, and life. In addition, we ll have more time and energy to build meaningful relationships, serve others, and make a contribution to our community. All because our eyes aren t continually glued to a small, glowing LCD screen. Things that you can do to prevent smartphone addiction is to lock your phone with an annoyingly long password. Most people set a short password so they can unlock their phone quickly. But to prevent the addiction, set a long password instead. Make it at least 15 characters long, and include symbols and uppercase letters. The inconvenience of unlocking your phone means that you won t use your phone mindlessly. • 10. Allusions In The Chronicles Of Narnia One Christian man who utilized and clearly enjoyed literature both of fiction entertainment and non fiction as a means of spreading the Christian worldview is C. S. Lewis. Lewis, though the joys of the sub genre of fantasy, managed to create an entertaining story while also upholding and spreading the Christian worldview. One of his most famous works, The Chronicles of Narnia, is a series filled with magic and the impossible, but the entire series is riddled with allusions to the Bible, allusions that fell into place because of his Christian faith. The creation of Narnia (The Magician s Nephew, Chapter 9) matches the account found in Genesis; the lion present throughout the series, Aslan, is similar to God and Christ, and the symbol of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories. There is a feeling of greatness and satisfaction in reading and thinking about different situations, of looking at things form the point of view of another. It is here, in the art of story and of writing fantastical literature, in which I have found both my passion and, as I believe at this time in my life, calling. There is more to telling a story than simply pulling story elements from thin air. In a miniscule nutshell, it takes, to various degrees, planning, delving into psychology, and research. A good story takes imagination, work, prayer, and, of course, a good deal of coffee. It has been twelve years since I first discovered the joy of writing, and since then, the desire and joy of this action of creation has only grown, much like a seed of a great oak tree. To me, there are few things that match the euphoria of writing and completing a story, or even just a chapter in a manuscript. I have a passion for both writing and reading: indulgences (in the right moderation) which tend to go hand in hand. After all, what greater teacher for the writer than those who have written and kept moral standards which they released into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Death as a Theme in the Writings of Emily Dickinson Essay Emily Dickinson Paper Alex Lesnick May 7, 2002 Period 1 Written word is perhaps the most powerful medium that humans have created to express their thoughts. A person can express a myriad of emotions through pen and paper, ranging from hope and happiness to morbid obsessions and anxiety. Written words, unlike spoken words, are for eternity. Once a thought is written down, anyone can read it, interpret it, ponder it, or question it, until it is destroyed. On the other hand, if a thought is spoken, it exists only for a second and then exists only in the minds of the one who uttered it and those who heard it. Only those who were present can interpret, question, or ponder that thought. If the paper or whatever material a thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Hardy s Treatment Of Women In Wessex Tales The Role Of Women in Thomas Hardy s Wessex Tales In this piece I will be showing the role of women in the 18th century around the time the Wessex Tales has been set. I will be showing the ways Thomas Hardy expresses his opinion in the way that some of the women act and showing the harsh reality that women had to face in the 18th century. The daughter s seclusion was great, but beyond the seclusion of the girl lay the seclusion of the father. If her social condition was twilight, his was darkness. They need well drained, loamy and fertile soil to grow sufficiently. These conditions make Canadian grounds a very difficult place to grow mustard. Since we have a climate that fluctuates between seasons, the only months that we are able to host the breeding of mustard is in the fall seasons. This time period is not enough for mustard to grow to its maximum potential and is far from efficient. After conducting some research, I do not believe that Canadian farmers should continue to grow mustard because it is putting a strain on the Canadian economy. This is because farmers who are planting mustard are not receiving high rates of crop returns due to the unfavourable climate conditions, as a result they are not able to supply the anticipated amounts of mustard and can not earn their maximum profit. Canadian governments are gaining a bad reputation from the mustard shortage because the demanded amount of mustard is not being satisfied with the scarce supply of mustard. Consumers are also also upset because prices of mustard are higher than what it was before this mustard crisis, therefore many want the product, but are not able to afford it. Businesses are also angry because they now have to pay more for the price of mustard and have to compete against other businesses for the supply of mustard and are losing consumers because they are being pushed to raise the prices of their goods. In theory, I believe Miller wanted to illustrate, through the Loman family members, the immersive experience of trying to succeed in the 20th century era. First, Willy Loman symbolizes many fathers in the United States that failed in fulfilling their dreams. Realism is a reflection on how life was like in the 20th century. Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are unable to see their uninteresting existence. In the novella The Dead by James Joyce, he uses symbolism and contrast to portray Gabriel Conroy as a dynamic character who turns his ignorant, self satisfied and repetitive life into a journey of self discovery. who leads an unfulfilled, apathetic, and ignorant life through the use of symbolism and contrast Throughout the short story, Joyce uses the literary device symbolism to show how Gabriel Conroy comes to the realization of his unsatisfying life and that he thinks more about his unimportant actions, desires, and tedious routines than being passionate and having an impactful life. One example of a symbol the author uses is snow, which has multiple representations for Gabriel. Towards the beginning of the book it indicates death, paralysis, and hidden truth, while at the end it symbolizes him seeking a new beginning filled with purity. Statistics have indicated an increasing rate of divorce in countries like Belgium and Chile as being very high and only a few places like the Philippines depict low rates (Kittleson, et.al, 2005). It is on account of these developments that we seriously ponder and guess on what really caused the sudden rise. Is it a problem with the individual or is it society s drawback? A few states have assault weapon bans of their own that remain in place. • 28. Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Essay Although Hardin states reasonable facts against helping the poor in his essay, Lifeboat Ethics , he overlooks key factors which would contradict with his point of view. Hardin is against the sharing of resources because in his opinion the population growth rates of the poorer countries are much higher as opposed to the wealthier. He claims that if resources are shared equally amongst refugees in LEDCs, in 21 years, each American would have to share the available resources with more than eight people. What Hardin overlooks when making this statement is that the mean wealth is tied in with the mean birthrate. Reports today show that as the wealth of one rises, they have less children. This is proof that as the wealth of a country rises, the birthrate would then decrease. If this not be the case, for which there is a slight possibility, Hardin s argument may be valid. Hardin s observation of the comparatively higher birthrate of the poor compared to the lower birthrate of the rich is in fact correct but only to some extent. Those models are useful for managers as decision aids to create and perform strategies to maintain the profitability of new products across their life cycle. Bass (1969) pioneered this area of research with a model for diffusions of new products under peer pressure via word of mouth. This model distinguished two parameters: innovation and imitation. Later, Chatterjee and Eliashberg (1990) provided a microeconomic version of Bass s model that included interactions among potential adopters and the formation of beliefs. In Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model, potential adopters were risk averse and used the price and their perceptions about the innovation s performance as inputs for utility functions. Thus, with Bayesian methods, potential adopters updated parameters with information from past adopters. Our model also focuses on informational influence on adoption of new products. However, we modified Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model of beliefs formation and individual choice by taking into account the possibility that influences take place only among consumers who are connected in a social network. • 31. Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men, causes great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by allowing the reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate them. De France does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf, Bisclavret may start out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and innocent, but there lied a monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human being, and his wife s monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without. The themes gathered from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and the wife who may be at first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to modify the stereotypes of what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy, and his beautiful wife, an unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a trustworthy, loving wife, until she reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really is. Her character is the very thing, which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster and the truth about monsters within. The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Social Norms In Society We live in a society of expectations. These expectations subconsciously shape our mannerisms on a day to day basis. Stemming from these controlled mannerisms are social norms. Social norms are the traits that have come to be typical over time because they have been shaped by our surroundings and our everyday interactions. When a norm is broken, society reacts by entering into shock. In a social experiment, I tested the reaction of society when I broke a social norm. For my experiment, I violated a folkway. I went to get my hair cut at my normal salon. This salon is an upscale, boutique blow dry bar and salon. There were many women in there who were getting their hair done. I have been going to that salon for years, and have come to know all of the employees and stylists. I had an appointment with my regular stylist who has cut my hair ever since I was little. I usually always go for a trim of about an inch and a blow dry after. This time, when my stylist asked me what I wanted, I looked her in the eye and said, take it all off. I was asking her to shave my head completely. The reaction of the people in the salon was one of shock. My hairdresser at first, looked at me and laughed as if I was joking. I then had to say, no really, take it all off. This is when she started to look panicked. She then began to question me, are you sure that is what you want? His telharmonium was created with an assembly of rotary generators and telephone receivers to convert electronic signals to into sound (Lejaren Hiller). He developed his invention from 1895 and continued to work on it even though there were no ways for the sounds being created from the electrical signals to be heard. Speakers or amplifiers were non existent for some time even after the development of Cahill s invention, and his instrument was the ancestor of present day electronic music synthesizers (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). Furthermore, Cahill s invention spurred the development of other electric instruments such as the electronic organ. In the 1920s, more electronic instruments were invented, some of which being monophonic meaning that only one note could be played at a time (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). One of the more common monophonic electric instruments was the theremin invented by Russian scientist Leon Theremin (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument). The theremin produces sine waves and is a box with radio tubes producing oscillation at two sound wave frequencies above the range of hearing; together they produce a lower audible frequency equal to the difference in their rates of vibration (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument) . Steven Hawking, once an advocate of belief, in God, suddenly changed his mind. He stated that science offers a more convincing explanation for the origins of the universe, and that the miracles of religion aren t compatible with scientific fact. Although very unreasonable, this change of heart exhibits one of God s basic gifts to the human race: free choice. God will not force people to accept Him.
