Weak Figurative Language
AJR s song Weak ,addresses the struggles of battling temptations and coming to terms with them. The
song portrays a young man fighting to gain control over his habits, but inability giving in, convincing
himself there s nothing wrong with being weak. Consequently the speaker begins to associate love and
joy to submitting to his temptations. Weak makes use of many types of figurative language to convey
this theme of giving in to temptations. Although there are many examples of figurative language the
most prevalent forms are metaphors and similes. The speaker states: But temptations of trouble on my
tongue, troubles yet to come ( 2 ). This metaphor comparing trouble to being on the end of his tongue
is used to represent how temptations are surrounding the speaker, and how he is growing closer to
falling for them. This quote plays a major role in the construction of the theme by introducing the
reader to the influences the speaker is attempting to resist. Another crucial quote use by the speaker is:
My habits, they hold me like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker states: One sip, bad for me/ One hit, bad for me/ One kiss, bad for me ( 3 5 ). Although in
moderation none of these things are truly bad for health the speaker uses this combination of
hyperboles and refrain to emphasize how it only takes one time to become addicted. This series of
lines reveals the speaker s awareness of his addictive personality and trying to prevent addiction but
he ultimately fails. The Final example of refrain is when the speaker writes: I m weak/ But I m weak,
and what s wrong with that? ( 13 14 ). The repetition of these two lines throughout the song play a
major part in depicting the speaker going back and forth trying to convince himself it s ok to be weak
in order to coax with his bad deeds. This use of a coaxing mechanism shows the speaker has
completely given in to his temptations and accepted his

Indonesian Vs. Bahasa Indonesian
Indonesia is a country that is described as having a beautiful scenery and is gorgeous place to live.
This doesn t mean that something with a beautiful scenery does not have any flaws that come with it.
Indonesia consists of a group of islands located in Southeast Asia and is between the Indian and the
Pacific Ocean. The proper language that is spoken is known as Indonesian or Bahasa Indonesian . This
is the most common language that is spoken in Indonesia; but is not the only one that is used.
Indonesian was first developed in the year 1945, when the declaration of Indonesian independence
was first drawn up. Although Indonesian is known as the official language, it is actually the second
most used language in Indonesia. Most of the population speaks languages such as Minangkabau or
Javanese. These languages are typically spoken at households and the public. Indonesian on the other
hand is commonly used at work and in school. The ethnic groups that are usually found in Indonesia
include: Javanese (45%), Sundanese (14%), Madurese (7.5%), Coastal Malays (7.5%), and other
(26%). Out of these ethnic groups the main religion that is practiced is Muslim (88%) followed by
Protestant (5%), Roman Catholic (3%), Hindu (2%), Buddhist (1%) and other (1%). In extension to
Indonesians, they are a mix of Chinese, European, Indian, and Malay and even though there
population consists of mainly Muslims, they also have a vast amount of Christian Protestants,
Catholics, Hindus, and Buddhists.

Emerald Ash Borer Research Paper
What is an invasive species? An invasive species is a species not native to an area, in this case not
native to the Great Lakes area. A non native species is a species that originally was not in a certain
location but was brought there and causes a lot of damage. An invasive species also is a great danger
to the environment and can cause damage to humans, plants, and animals. In Illinois and the Great
Lakes area there are more than 180 invasive and non native species. That means a lot of damage is
made into our environment. One particular invasive species is Agrilus planipennis, more commonly
known as emerald ash borer. What is the life cycle of the emerald ash borer? The emerald ash borer
adult males live an average of 13 days, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people think that to get rid of them we have to cut down the ash trees but that is not true.
Recently in Burnsville, this summer it injected 14 ash trees at City Hall with pesticide to protect them
against the emerald ash borer. Deborah McCullough, a professor of entomology and forestry at
Michigan State University. Based on her research, she says: There is no reason for a landscape ash tree
to die from emerald ash borer anymore. The treatment is so effective and so much cheaper than
removal and replacement that I can t get a single elected official to weigh in on the side of removing
healthy trees because we don t have to, and that is never popular with the public. Private ash trees that
were not injected are dead, while treated ash trees on city property stand nearby in good health.
Michigan and Ohio State research shows that injecting Tree age provides at least two years of almost
100 percent control of larvae, McCullough said. Applying pesticides every two years costs about $250
a tree, while removal and replacement is $700 to $1,200 a tree. The company says the product is a
safe, organic option. We should try that option instead of cutting down trees. This would help protect
the area of great lakes from emerald ash

Unit 12: Crime and its Effects on society
Crime and Disorder Legislation
Ashley Bown
Daniel Harris
P1: Outline current crime and disorder legislation
There are many acts to cover like; The Anti Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, Police
Reform act 2002, Antisocial Behaviour Act 2003 and a Crime and Disorder Act 1998. But the first one
that I will be covering is the Anti social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. This is an act which
was put into power to cover a range of topics from giving people information about harm in
relationships, violence, forced marriages and guns. This will help to protect the victims who were
involved in harmful relationships. With the act introducing new powers it gives the ... Show more

This act also gives people who have committed anti social behaviour to clean up the community e.g.
graffiti, litter. This will benefit everybody in the community because the people will know they are
being punished and will have less of a chance of re offending and the community will be cleaner.
The offenders are the most affected by section 30 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 in my
opinion because If any members of the public have been intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed
as a result of the behaviour of groups of two or more persons in public places in any area the police
can interfere. You can be stopped and searched if there is suspicion that they will or might commit
anything that may damage society or create a disturbance, for example it gives the police the power to
separate groups of more than 2 if the police feel they may be up to no good. It will also affect the
younger generation because the act gives police officers the power to send under 16s home after 9pm
if they are seemed to be suspicious, this will prevent any anti social behaviour to occur. This will also
affect the local communities because it will make the people living in the community a lot more
secure and safe in their housing knowing any people out after 9pm will be being watched and sent
home by the police if they are misbehaving. The police force may also be impacted because each

Christine Meyer s View On Family
Have you ever thought how your views on topics might change as you grow older? I hadn t, especially
on the topics of marriage, family, and children. However, after interviewing my grandma, Christine
Meyer, who was born on April 24, 1938, I realized that many of my views varied quite drastically
from my grandma s.
Christine was born and raised in the country just outside of Bonfield, Illinois. It s a very small town
about 60 miles south of Chicago, Illinois. She had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom were all
older than her. Her mother died of cancer when Christine was 20 years old and her dad then remarried.
Her father didn t pass away until 1980. Christine didn t attend college primarily because it wasn t the
norm, especially for women. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By choosing to marry someone you are marrying into another family. My grandma and I had similar
views on who family consisted of and how we would define it. When I asked her if her views on who
family consisted of has changed over time she answered with, No, I don t think my views on family
have changed overtime. I think my thoughts on family are similar with the same concept of that family
consists of the people you are blood related too as well as the people you marry and then later your
children if you choose to have them. The Women s Lives Multicultural Perspective book brings up the
idea of the ideal nuclear family. According to Kirk and Rey (2010), the ideal nuclear family consists of
a hetereosexual couple, married for life, with two or three children. The father is the provider while
the wife/mother spends her days running the home (pg. 309). When I asked my grandmother if she
believed in this concept when she was younger she said yes and answered with a more detailed
response which included this. My husband worked long hours as well as raised cattle and farmed. We
helped each other when necessary, but generally stuck to traditional roles of me being the
housekeeper, cook, etc.... and him being the main breadwinner. I feel like many families today don t
actually fit under the ideal nuclear family. Many women are now the ones who fulfill the role of
primary breadwinner or are equal in their jobs working as hard as the men to maintain their family and
help bring in an income. Additionally, many families have more than two children or nowadays it is
becoming more socially acceptable to marry the same gender. (QOUTE ABOUT LESBIAN OR GAY
COUPLES) For example, my parents had four children and I know many others who have more than
four children in their families. And I know several couples who are lesbian and I love them! 70 years

Analysis of Database Management and Information Retrieval...
Differentiate between database management system and information retrieval system by focusing on
their functionalities.
Answer:
What is database management system? Database Management System is a database program. The
DBMS manage incoming data, organize it, and provided ways for the data to be modified or extract by
users or other programs. This cause, most database software comes with an Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC) driver that allows the database to integrate with other databases. For example,
common SQL statements such as SELECT and INSERT are translated from a program s proprietary
syntax into a syntax other databases can understand. Some DBMS examples include PostgreSQL,
MySQL, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, FileMaker, RDBMS, dBASE, Clipper, and FoxPro. It
is a software system that uses a standard method of retrieving, and running queries on data.
What is information retrieval system? Informational Retrieval System is the activity of obtaining
information resources relevant to an information need from a collection of information resources. Web
search engines are the most visible. Search can be based on metadata or on full text (or other content
based) indexing. Automated information retrieval systems are used to reduce what has been called
information overload . Many universities and public libraries use IR systems to provide access to
books, journals and other documents.

Selfishness In The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet
You will never understand the damage you have done to someone till the same thing is done to you
(Unknown). Romeo hurts many people in his short lifetime and then ends up dead. The Tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet is about two star crossed lovers who come from two families with a ancient feud.
Juliet is being forced to marry a man whom she does not love or even know. Then Romeo meets
Juliet, they fall in love which causes many problems. In the play, the two star crossed lovers die at the
fault of Rome because he was selfish, unreasonable, and impulsive. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet , Romeo causes death by repeatedly being selfish. In a family, there is a lot of trust
that is shared and spread. When one falls in love with the ONE GIRL he can t have, that breaks all
trust in a household. Romeo is a young, single, good looking man belonging to the house of the

Who Is Abigail A Dynamic Character In The Crucible
Throughout The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the biggest liar and manipulator in the play. Although
she is one of the worst characters in this story, she definitely is one of the most interesting ones.
Because she is such a dynamic character, there are many ways to analyze her. Abigail also makes you
change your point of view on her once the plot develops. She states that her name has no blush in the
village but there are many reasons why that is farthest from the truth. For starters, Abigal is a
pathological liar, which is one of the 10 comandments. You drank blood, Abby... You drank a charm to
kill John Proctor s wife (Miller, 1136 1137). On page 1154, Abigail tells Reverand Hale that she didn t
drink chicken blood when confronted, but soon after confesses to him that when Tituba conjured
spirits, she forced her to drink the blood. Through all of the acts, Abigail seems to lie her way through
everything just to save herself, never having shame in it, showing she is not a true Puritan woman. On
page 1131, Abigail tries to persuade Parris that when he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She threatens all the girls who danced with Tituba in the woods saying Let either of you breath a
word... I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you (Miller, 1137). Quotes simillar to these
can be seen periodically in the play in order to control everyone in Abigail s path. Continuing, Abigail
is also extremely manipulative. Using God as her scapegoat, she is able to manipulate many into
thinking that she is pure and has nothing to do with the devil. I want the light of God, I want the sweet
love of Jesus! (Miller, 1156). As you can see, Abigail is a liar and manipulator which makes her a
perfect charater to analyze. Being a protagonist helped create a more dynamic and major character in
this drama. Overall, Abigail Williams can be recognized as on of the most controversial characters in

Fate In How Mordred
In the chapter of Malory s How Mordred was Born and King Arthur Learned of His Parentage , Arthur
decides to go an an adventure and, along the way gets into multiple altercations. During his travels,
Arthur meets Merlin who then decides to accompany him. Some important themes that are seen in this
prose romance are death, power, courage and most importantly fate. The author suggests that fate is
completely predetermined, there is no ways to change the outcome of one s life. The idea that life is
based solely on fate will be seen through battles, tools given to ensure survival, Merlin s powerful
influence, as well as incest. To start with, Arthur is someone who gets into multiple dangerous
situations and Merlin must be there to repeatedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he sleeps with her, he goes on a quest where he encounters the strangest beast he [has] ever seen
or heard of (25). This beast that he sees is the Questing Beast which symbolizes incest. Continually,
since Arthur is seeing this beast represents that the sexual relationship he has with Morgues is wrong.
Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to tell him you have lain by
your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you and all the knights of your
realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the ends of Mordred. This shows
that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not change. Arthur knows Modred will kill
him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s advice and to have all children born on May
day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send out all of these children is to make sure that the son
he conceived will not be his demise. Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is
predetermined no matter the course he chooses. To conclude, Malory, in the chapter How Mordred
was Born and Arthur Learned of His Parentage , shows that Arthur s fate is already made for him; that
none of the choices he makes will change how his life is supposed to end. Throughout this prose
romance, Merlin is there to make sure that Arthur will survive. How Merlin

Exclusion As A Form Of Control
Exclusion as a form of control is contingent upon the belief what you are excluding is the problem.
Usually however, what is being excluded, like a criminal, is the symptom of a much bigger problem (a
failing education system, poverty...etc). Additionally, the idea that a human can be fixed in a
psychiatric facility is also contingent on there being one source and one problem that can be identified
and dealt with. Humans are complex, and we can t assume to know how effecting one part will effect
the whole. Again, complexity is disregarded for the sake of the image that is at stake. The image in
this case, is a safe and civilized community. Criminals threaten to disrupt the boundaries we have put
in place in society. By breaking laws or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is obviously unrealistic, but that doesn t stop us from trying. Disease is part of nature, and on an
environmental level it is a natural form of population control. There is a sort of ignorant arrogance that
comes with being a human in society. We don t try and live in harmony with nature, and accept death
from disease as a natural process, rather we fight nature and do our best to outsmart it through
inventions like antibiotics. We use nature to our advantage when it is convenient, but we disregard it
when it threatens our structures and rules. In contrast, it is worth noting that war, which also
contributes to premature death and goes against society s ideals is not nearly as obsessed upon. There
is no war awareness month like there is a breast cancer awareness month. The reason for this is
because war is much more complex and a product of our own boundaries. Yes, we say things like war
is bad or terrorists are evil but it is exactly that kind of dichotomous thinking that perpetuates the
violence. Actually eliminating war would mean shifting the way we interact with each other in the
world. It would mean not simplifying people to good and bad, but accepting everyone with their
differences. We created war, and it s a product of the divisive boundaries we set for ourselves in
society. Instead of eliminating the boundary we act in ways that give

This group of invaders were called the vandals and were made up of a group of barbarians and

Has Australian Law Adequately Protect the Health of...
Has Australian law adequately protect the health of indigenous people?
Contemporary issue
The issue appeared in The Australian newspaper in January 2007 which discussed about the
indigenous health. There is no exact statistics that really measure aborigines health as only about 72%
of them were included in the surveys. The issue is able to make us think on actions that could be made
in order to protect the health rights of the indigenous Australian. It seems to be impossible for the
responsible authorities to address this problem effectively when there is lack of efficiency in gathering
data.

In 1962, Electoral Act (Section 41) was amended to give those Aborigines their right to vote.
Furthermore, in order to reduce racial discrimination towards indigenous community, 1967
Referendum was hold in which Section 51(xxvi) was amended and Section 127 was repealed (Bailey
2008). 1967 has become the landmark as indigenous affair became a concurrent power shared between
the Commonwealth and the states (Bailey 2008; Freehollows 2003). Besides, they are also included in
the census after 1967 and were given the same rights as other Australians and enjoy the same rights.
(History of the Aborigines n.d.; Freehollows 2003).
However, although their rights were recognised starting from 1900s, some argue that it is insufficient
as Australia does not has a Bill of Rights and the Constitution is not a document which focus on
human rights (Bailey 2008; Owen 2010). Despites of the claims, there is no need for the Australian
government to have a Bill of Right as the third element of Rule of Law already ensures the protection
of human rights and natural justice. Plus, having a Bill of Rights means that it will be likely subjected
to High Court s interpretation and will not guarantee protection of human rights.

stress disorder, depression and anger, taking as much as 5 years for a victim to overcome the
psychological effects from an attack.
In the article All crimes are hate crimes written by Jim McPherson, he states that hate crime laws tend
to promote inequality rather than curb it. Such laws create special classes of citizens who enjoy a
special status. When you think about it like that it opens the door for so many pros and cons of
whether or not hate crimes should be treated different from any other crime. It is inherently unjust to
punish certain crimes more harshly than others simply because the victim is a member of a special
chosen group, it demeans those who aren t considered special and is contrary to the idea that laws

Analysis Of The Red Scare Of The 1950s
Chavez Ravine formally known as Dodger Town The Red Scare of the 1950s, the years of Senator
MCcarthy the city began condemning homes (Normark 17.) When many social and interracial labor
movements of the Left were dismantled. This was not an isolated case this was happening all over the
country right before our own eyes. A 1950 far sighted housing development of 3364 housing units
proposed on a 278 acre site in the underprivileged downtown Chavez Ravine neighborhood. Elysian
Park Heights, the project was intended to be the groundwork for citywide slum revitalization

prominent Mexican American thriving communities served as a home to three Mexican Communities
La Loma, Palo Verde and Bishop. Job and housing discrimination was one of the reasons the
neighborhoods rallied around each other making them a thriving community. Despite of having no
help from the city they had a school, church and vegetation. (Evanosky 80) Mexican families being

Persuasive Essay On Community Service
The options for community service are endless. After narrowing down my options, I applied to
volunteer at the Crystal Lake Public Library this past summer. Having to go in for an interview was a
new experience for me, considering how I have never applied for a job. I believe that the exposure to
the interview process did two things for me: first, it put me out of my comfort zone, and second, it
taught me invaluable lessons about applying for future jobs and programs. This is because I am the
kind of person who can get nervous easily, and I struggle to hide it sometimes. An interview is a type
of situation that I would feel nervous in; however, I was able to overcome my fear and apply to the
library anyways. Therefore, I learned what I should expect to be asked, and I understand how I should
properly respond. Once I was accepted to the library s volunteer network, I was able to choose which
department I would work for in order to serve the community.
By volunteering at the library, I improved the Youth Services department, particularly by participating
in the Adopt a Shelf program. One part of my job was to rearrange the books in the correct order when
they got disorganized. This made it easier for parents and children to find the books, movies, and CDs
they were looking for. Another task that I enjoyed was replacing the books to their proper location
from the clean up cart. It is important for books to be on the shelves where they belong because
otherwise it appears that books are not available. My favorite part of volunteering for the library,
however, was getting to help kids pick out the books they were looking for. I remember many of the
people I helped, but one of my fondest moments occurred on one of my first days. I was working in
the junior fiction department, and there was a young girl there. She wanted to find a new series of
books to read for the summer reading program. It was special to show her the novels that I read when I
was her age, especially when she chose to start the Mother Daughter Book Club books: my favorite
series in middle school. It was moments like that that made me proud to be a part of the Crystal Lake
Public Library and their volunteer team. As a result of my work at the

Religion And Its Effect On Society
Religion plays a large role in today s society, it s used to comfort us in our greatest times of need as
well as explain seemingly unknowable questions, such as what is the meaning of life, why are we
here, what happens when we die, why do we suffer but now as in the past religion can be a harmful
factor in our society. It has been the cause of wars, witch hunts, and proliferated superstition. Today
there are such laws that allow a parent to deny their child adequate medical care even if it s to treat a
potentially life threatening illness. In other cases religion is cited as a reason to deny someone access
to birth control. In school s modern science is at times having to contend with creationism which
seems to be a reinterpreting of modern science and is in complete opposition with established facts.
Other times such things as sex education is taught inaccurately which then leaders to things such as
high rates of teen pregnancies and STD s spreading. In other countries these actions are at times more
extreme such as when we hear about suicide bombings, honor killing, and the like. In this paper I will
discuss a few of these topics that I find to be pertinent, yet the topics are many. I will discuss the
harms that such actions can cause to us as a society both socially and physically due to such harmful
laws, I will also discuss the social reasons as to why such actions are performed in the first place and
why they may be found to be socially acceptable. Lastly I will speak

The Portrayal Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr.
In the wake of the Civil Rights Era, many people in the United States were fighting for the end of
segregation. There was one man in particular who was going above and beyond to bring about change:
Martin Luther King Jr. He fought continuously for rights of African Americans even when he was,
secluded from the world, in jail. One particular time, he was arrested for protesting the rights of
African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama. Once in jail, he received criticism for his works by
fellow clergymen regarding his unwise and untimely actions (King Jr.). To combat the comments
made about him, King wrote a letter in response. He starts by giving the four basic steps in a
nonviolent campaign: collection of the facts to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, an apostle is defined as each of the twelve chief disciples of Jesus Christ (Apostle). They carried
the message that Jesus preached to them out into the world. So, Paul and the other prophet s jobs were
to leave their villages and go spread the gospel throughout neighboring cities of Jesus Christ. King
also references a specific instance where Paul experiences a vision. In Acts 16:6 10, Paul has a vision
of a man in Macedonian that is calling for him to come and help the people there (Acts 16). The next
day, Paul heads to a major city in the region to begin serving the people (Acts 16). This is the first
Biblical reference found in the letter that King uses in supporting his points. Martin Luther King Jr.
uses Paul s story to show the commonalities between each other and their actions. He states, like Paul,
I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid (King Jr.). This is a powerful analogy where
King shows his feelings of constantly being called to go out and serve others in need (King Jr.). He
feels that until equality is granted to everyone, there will be a need for him to go and serve. To King,
this is a feeling of being compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond [his] particular hometown
(qtd Aeschliman). Specifically, he is showing that he is in Birmingham because of this calling to take
action against the injustice. King shows that Paul

Stereotypes In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The Most Drowneded...
The Problem Of Stereotypes The world is full of stereotypes. Every person has been stereotypes at
least once in their lives. There have always been people who walk around and stereotype just be first
impressions. Yet, by seeing someone on the streets one can not make a complete perception of that
person, for the constant emotions that vary just be a walk by. Stereotypes cause people to have an
incomplete picture of others and can damage individuals and groups. Stereotypes rob people from
seeing them as a whole. There is a constant struggle with stereotyping others before there is a real
connections between one another. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The Most Handsome Drowned Man In
The World there are many examples of these kinds of stereotypes. In The Most Handsome Drowned
Man in the World it talks about the stereotypes made by the woman of the dreary town They thought
he was the most magnificent man in the village. His wife would be the happiest woman. (Marquez)
They took all of these predictions based on the looks of the man. On e can not based the entire
perception of a person entirely on physical appearance. The woman s stereotypes did not cause peace
among the village as well. In the text is states the men exhausted from tortuous inquiries from the past
night, all the wanted to do was to be rid of the intruder who before the sun arose. By the woman
gawking over a man they never even knew caused tension to build up within the families of the town.

Business Ethics Has Been Difficult For Me Essay
Business Ethics has been difficult for me. I have not had any background in business and so learning
the vocabulary was definitely a challenge. The course as a whole has many different parts. The lecture
and notes as well as the case readings. The case readings tied all of the vocabulary together and helped
me to put the information we have learned into a real life scenario. Overall, Business Ethics has been a
great way for me to learn about different companies. I also believe this course helped me to look
behind the scenes at the layers of business, and overall the course gave me a better knowledge and
understanding of business as a whole. I have never taken a business class before, and to be honest, I
had no idea what I was getting myself into with this particular course. The vocabulary was all very
new to me as were a lot of the concepts. I had to really digest each slide on my own and break down a
lot of the vocabulary that other students might have known due to a background in business. This class
did enhance my knowledge of business and business ethics. I wouldn t necessarily say the course
changed my view on business, as I didn t really have a view. The course did give me a view on
business, that I now have. I think it was important for me to take this course because I will benefit
from knowing more about business ethics, and also business in general. One of my favorite parts of
the course was reading all the different cases. I found the cases really helped me

The Values Of Inspiratory Capacity
1. The values of Inspiratory Capacity (IC), Vital Capacity (VC), Functional Residual Capacity (FRC),
and Total Lung Capacity (TLC) were compared to the values of an Adult Female because the
volunteer in the experiment was female as well. The comparison of values showed that the volunteer
had low values of IC and VC but a much higher value of FRC. Factors contributing to these
differences could be due to the volunteer possibly having a smaller lung capacity and lung size
compared to the average female therefore causing the results, or the volunteer did not expire all the air
possible from the lungs and caused skewed results considering the total lung capacity was very similar
to the average female values. The function of Residual Volume ... Show more content on

whether or not a group of students will give into peer pressure when given the answer, their
conformity will be given. When the experiment is conducted on the seniors, the test subject will not be
pressured into conforming to the rest of the group. The goal of this experiment is to test the ages of
3rd, 7th, and 12th grade and see whether or not will conform to the majority. Hence the name, The

Why People Commit Crimes And Explain How Judiciary...
When we were little children, an adult would ask you what you want to be when you grow up. Most
children want to be dancers, singers, doctors, lawyers, etc. I always wanted to be a lawyer and
advance to being a judge. Now that I am older, the judicial system is where I need to be, just not a
prosecutor or judge. I have changed my mind about being a prosecutor and judge because it is too
political. I would be fair. However, I would not make a very good political candidate. Even though
each professional holds a specific job that they must perform, there are issues that must be resolved.
Professionals in the judiciary branch of the government, including prosecutors, defense attorneys, and
judges, they must execute justice by upholding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because judiciary professionals face three main issues on a regular basis, the judge is responsible for
coming up with a decision. The prosecutor is responsible for having enough evidence to pursue a trial.
The prosecutor is the representative of the state and wields tremendous power (Wright, 2012). The
defense attorney is responsible for proving beyond a shadow and a doubt that the client is innocent.
The job of the defense attorney is, by any standard, difficult. It is difficult for a variety of reasons.
First, defendants often talk to the police without an attorney present. When they do this, they
themselves in crimes and to provide police with evidence that can later be used against them. Second,
defense attorneys often handle so many cases that it is simply impossible for them to understand the
details of each case. To manage the large number of criminal cases they are responsible for, defense
attorneys often have little choice but to spend only a few minutes with each defendant and to base
their legal recommendations on the information they receive from their clients and the prosecutor s
office. Third, most of the defendants in the criminal justice system are from the lower socioeconomic
classes. These defendants sometimes do not fully understand their legal rights, nor do they have
resources to hire expert witnesses or to investigate the evidence obtained by the

his chair back, stood up and walked out onto the balcony. It was late evening and he hadn t eaten all

up, he changed into his usual attire and left his room for the dining hall. Voices drifted down the

minor matters that had occurred during recruitment of new troops. Even though the servants cleared
the table, they still sat for some time finishing their glasses of wine and talking about this and that,
nothing of real concern. Relieved that no one had commented on his late arrival, he yawned, only then
realizing how truly tired he had become and excused himself and retired to his room, finding a bath

because the bed was so appealing. Having scrubbed off all the dirt from the day, he stepped out, dried
himself with the towels left by the servant, dressed in his bed attire, and plopped his tired body into

The Importance Of Deaf Culture
It is quite a task to identify oneself within a culture due to the unique social, behavioral, and physical
traits each culture represents themselves with. As I began learning about the hallmarks of Deaf culture
such as language, heritage art and history , I began wondering about how the historical significance of
each one impacted the modern choices of Deaf individuals (Holcomb 17). Our textbook Introduction
to American Deaf Culture makes references to how important American Sign Language is to define
the Deaf community which leaves me wondering how strong the foundation of Deaf culture would be
if based on heritage rather than on language. Being Jewish I never learned Hebrew but knew all the
prayers, values, and traditions to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Language never played in a role in how people viewed me as a Jewish youth nor did people believe I
was not culturally experienced because I could not hold a conversation in a certain language. The
Jewish people went through oppression both in the stories I grew up learning as well as historical
events like the Holocaust which emotionally changed the lives of the Jewish population to this day
and for years to come. The point of my experience as a Jewish individual is to lay the idea of how I
grew up feeling appreciated by my population without a language and how the community I grew up
with experienced oppression much as the Deaf community faced and show how the events we endured
made our culture stronger in the long run. I believe that much like the Jewish people, Deaf people
show the same pride in their community because of the oppression they faced and how the pride they
feel is attributed more to their history than to language.
When thinking about the historical impact against the Deaf community, the primary instance that
arises in my head is the oralist movement which was supported by hearing people like Alexander
Graham Bell. Many people opposed the idea of Deaf Culture and wanted to move Deaf children away
from traditional ASL by teaching lip reading and speech to children instead of allowing them to use
ASL in schools. While many could argue that this example proves

Sanity And Insanity
Mental illness according to Webster dictionary is any of a broad range of medical conditions that are
marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal
psychological functioning . How do you diagnose mental illness? Well therein lies the problem. The
line between mental illness and insanity and sanity is very thin. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest,
Ken Kesey depicts the complex line between insanity in a world that oppresses the mentally ill
through the use of characterization, literary devices, themes and motifs.
When R.P. McMurphy arrived at the ward, the whole floor has an immediate reaction especially the
staff in charge. Kesey utilizes characterization to allow the ward to be perceived as weak in the eyes of
the reader. When the current patients and atmosphere of the ward are compared to McMurphy s
appearance and persona, the ward looks very vulnerable and defenseless. McMurphy, described as
talking loudr n you d think he needed (Kesey 11) and [sounding big] (Kesey 11), establishes the large
presence and effect that McMurphy has and will have on the ward. In contrast to McMurphy, the ward
is described as pee stinkin mattresses (Kesey 9) and mornings with cold mush (Kesey 9). The two
opposing descriptions allows establishment of authority of McMurphy over the other patients before
he even actually meets them. Also in contrast with McMurphy, the Nurse s description, while still

Adapting to changes is one of the most difficult mental and physical challenges a person can face. The
struggle to adapt to change makes a strong presence in both Alice in Lena Coakley s Mirror Image,
and Barry, from W.D. Valgardson s Saturday Climbing. Alice is the protagonist in Mirror Image and
the author illustrates the struggle of self acceptance she faces after having a brain transplant. Barry is
the protagonist of Saturday Climbing and he tries to cope with the fact that his daughter is not a child

media as a representation of the conflicts a father faces in a typical father daughter relationship. Barry
has trust issues with his daughter, ever since she came home with the sweet sour smell of marijuana

wants to read her diary. Jenny denies her and replies that she [has] to get to know [her] better (Coakley
2), enforcing that she does not trust her. Despite these similarities, they have many differences in their
struggles with the people around them. Alice has family issues where her mother and twin sister have
trouble accepting Alice in her new body; it is jarring for them. Jenny is the most critical in her family,
as she feels as if [Alice] is dead (Coakley 6). This shows that she thinks the Alice she knew is dead,
even though Alice tries to prove that she is still alive. Despite Jenny feeling this way, Alice s mother
also feels uneasy and uncomfortable around her. Alice observes that her mother may think that she is
not the same daughter she knew before (Coakley 6), and that she tries to avoid any eye contact with
her. Another difference between Barry and Alice is that, Alice has a struggle with society and the
donor s family. People in her community have trouble recognizing her and they mistake her for Gail,
Alice s donor. The Jarreds, Gail s family, also have a grudge against Alice; Mrs. Jarred feels helpless
and desperate that she cannot see her supposed daughter. In contrast to Alice s situation, Barry

The Electronic Medical Record
For a nation to be technologically advanced, the United States (U.S.) is having a hard time
overcoming the dark era of utilizing hand written scripts, progress notes, and paper records. In
comparison to other countries, the U.S. is lagging behind in the health care system. Even with all the
improvements that have been made recently, the U.S. ranked last in 2014 in areas such as access,
efficiency and equity compared to Australia, Canada, France Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand,
Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen, 2014).
Now, as our nation is trying to improve the quality, access, and proficiency of our health care,
concerns have been raised whether the new policies are adequate enough for privacy amongst sharing
and obtaining health information. This paper was put together to give background information on how
the electronic medical record came about and whether privacy is a major concern amongst the
American population.
Background
The dark era of medical records caused people s private health information not to be safe. A few
examples of how patient records were not protected includes patient records were found in dumpsters
outside of physician s offices, patient records were found washed ashore in Maine, and in one instance
a teacher from Salt Lake City purchased medical records from 28 Florida hospitals to use as scrap
paper for her students (Thede, 2010). Moreover, in the past patient records used to be fully

Demand and Supply
Demand and supply The term demand refers to the quantity of a given product that consumers will be
willing and able to buy at a given price. As a general common sense rule the higher the price of a
particular product the lower will be the demand for it . The term supply refers to the quantity of a
particular product that suppliers (producers and/or sellers) will make available to the market at a
particular price. The higher the price, the greater the quantity that suppliers will be willing to supply to
the market. Markets consist of individual or groups of businesses that are prepared to supply a
product, and customers who demand the product. Market price is determined by the interaction of the
forces of demand and supply. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the modern high tech world there are also important factors that influence supply. Nowhere is this
truer than in the development of new production technologies leading to the production of high
volume low cost goods. For example, in recent years Coca Cola has developed high tech canning
factories that use less costly and cheaper materials in the production of cans. Wants a want is simply a
desire for a product; it is not the same thing as demand. Effective demand refers to a desire for a
product that is backed up by a purchasing decision. For demand to be effective the consumer needs to
have the money required to make the purchase. Elasticity of demand refers to the sensitivity of
demand to a change in price. The more sensitive demand is (i.e. the more it changes) to a price change
the more elastic it is said to be. Actions Whats this? Using the buttons below you can download this

Essay about The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
From generation to generation, the constant struggle for males to live up to the expectations of their
fathers often affects the choices made and actions taken by the sons. Perhaps, the overbearing
testosterone levels claim responsibility for the apparent need for sons to impress their fathers, but not
all boys consider the realistic consequences of their decisions. In Khaled Hosseini s novel The Kite
Runner, young Amir s admiration for his father Baba, coupled with the constant tension in their
relationship obscures his mind from making clear decisions as he strives to obtain his father s love and

Amir, representing the Pashtuns and high society Afghanis, allows himself to degrade Hassan, the face
of the mere Hazaras of the lowest class rank. Through the eyes of Amir, it seems as though Baba
preoccupies himself passing time with his comrade Rahim Khan; when he sporadically attempts to
involve Amir in his life, Baba always suggests that Hassan accompany them in their daily adventures
leaving Amir questioning why his father tries desperately to avoid alone time and bonding moments
with his son. The initial occurrences in which Amir witnesses Baba s immediate affection for Hassan
drive Amir s negative mental attitude and envy towards his only companion Hassan.
Hosseini utilizes outside environmental factors to contribute to the preeminating assumption of Amir s
character. The actions taken in response to external stimuli convey the true nature of not only the
protagonist Amir but his genuine friend and unknown half brother Hassan. The two juvenile Afghani
boys face many challenges growing up in Kabul; bullies taunt and threaten them routinely. Assef, the
leader among the tormentors, inadvertently plays a key role in determining the measures taken by
Amir in order to gain the acceptance of his father. Under repetitive harassment and criticism, Amir
rarely fights against his subjugation. Baba discerns his son s predominant flaw: cowardice. In his

and to have perfect attendance.
One of my goals for senior year is to pass all of my classes so that I am ready when I get to college. I
will do everything that is put in front of me to the best of my ability no matter how big or how small
the task is. Even if some of the things that I have put in front of me might make me stumble and want
to give up and just not continue through it I want to press through and finish what is out in front of me.
I know that things will get hard and that I will begin to get stressed out but I do not want to let it stop
me from achieving my goal. When I think things are all good and if I slow down that nothing will
happen I want to not allow myself to slow down when the end of the tunnel is near. ... Show more

I want to make sure that I am not coming into class late like I have in the previous years. I want to
know that this year I will not have one tardy or one absence be the reason I do not have perfect
attendance. In the past I didn t care if I was a few minutes late or not but this year I do. This year I
want to make sure I am eligible to not have to take any final exams that I am clear all the way through.
That I wont have to worry if this one test is going to be the reason that I do not pass. Even if it seems
that the exams wont harm me I want to make sure they definitely will not by not allowing myself to
have to take them. Therefore I want to make sure that I do everything that I need to do to make sure

The Personality Of Francis Of Assisi
Moreover, he did not even keep his drawers, but stripped himself stark naked before all the
bystanders. This quote does not sound like the description of a typical Saint, but Francis of Assisi was
certainly not a typical Saint. His devotion to Jesus Christ was unmatched as he dedicated his life to
authentically follow the ways of his Savior. Initially, Francis undertaking of replicating the life of
Jesus over a millennium removed from his time on Earth was not taken well by Italian society and
many considered him to be a madman. His love for lepers and for the lowest of the low was appalling
to many at the time. Ironically, his devoutness to Christianity was most threatening to the institution of
the Church itself. His staunch stance against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis spent his early years as the spoiled son of a merchant from the nouveau rich class. He was
accustomed to violence and even went to war in a battle between Assisi and Perugia. This all changed
later, as he become truly selfless. One of his friends noticed this sudden change in Francis and asked
him, Francis are you going to take a wife? In response he said, I will marry a nobler and fairer bride
than you ever saw, who shall surpass all others in beauty and excel them in wisdom. The lady he was
referring to was Lady Poverty. He would go on to sell off all his possessions including his own horse
and attempted to give the money to the decaying St. Damian Church which the priest would not
accept. It is worth noting that the priest did not take the money because he found the change of heart
within Francis startling. The priest was amazed, and wondering at a change of circumstances
incredibly sudden, refused to believe what he heard; and, thinking he was being hoaxed, he would not
keep the offered money. The skeptical reaction of the priest shows how radical and revolutionary Saint
Francis generosity was, but also how rare a man like Francis was at a this point in

Egoism And Ethical Egoism
Egoism is the idea of self interest. It elicits what controls, and give the ambitions our self interest.
When philosophers carefully observed egoism. Their thesis of egoism voiced that our intuition
controls what we do and there is two form of self interest. We have descriptive which they think
temporarily that people s drives instantaneous aspiration. The normative way is where our self interest
is developed based on experience and power. Theories of egoism also study the intentions behind our
actions. For example, do we act for love, religion, or wealth? Who benefits from our actions, is it the
individual or the whole of society? Two theories exist that try to answer these questions, namely the
theories of Ethical Egoism and Psychological Egoism.
Ethical Egoism is the normative theory that our self concept should not be viewed as solitary but
instead as part of society. In this respect, our actions should also be for the benefit of society. Ethical
Egoism isn t about self deprivation, but rather about helping yourself by helping others as well. It
relies not just on improving one s self but also on improving the structure of society. The strong
version of Ethical Egoism states that everything we do for our own good is moral and must always be
promoted. The weak version states that although acting for one s own good is usually for the good of
society on the whole, there may be conditions in which personal desires have to be suppressed in order
to maintain social morality. The weak version integrates the individual into society in such a way that
he or she must be willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of others.
In contradiction to Ethical Egoism, Psychological Egoism presents itself as a much different
perspective altogether. Psychological Egoism is the descriptive variant that states all human actions to
be the result of selfishness. The core of this theory focuses on a different definition of self concept or
ego. However, there are many identifiable fallacies of Psychological Egoism. Firstly, the theory is
based on intangible terminologies of the inner self that cannot be physically examined. Furthermore,
when we do try to study Psychological Egoism in terms of scientific observations such as human

Beneath Clouds
BENEATH CLOUDS
Ivan Sen (2002)
NOTES
* Opening credits: Images of rolling clouds, vast and immense, threatening and powerful. * Two
female, high school students dressed in uniform walk a barren landscape. The only colour and
movement comes from the trucks that roar through. Isolated, Aboriginal community. * Walk past an
indigenous man carrying a jerry can of petrol. Stereotypical image of addiction. Lena in a thick
Australian accent: Whadda dickhead. Clear from this dialogue that her values are very different from
the norm. * Close up of dead butterfly with crawling ants, camera switches to close up of Lena.
Connection between the character and the butterfly is made both are beautiful creatures but neither ...

The us and them mentality is revealed again. Refer to each other through their dialogue as cuz and
brother . Immediate kinship expressed through colloquial language. Diegetic sound comes from the
radio as the lyrics I wish I was back in the Dreamtime filter out. * Cut to close up shot of dead
cockatoo on the road side. White is indicative of innocence and purity. Another thing destroyed. * Car
is pulled over by police. Officer refers to the driver as boy a derogatory term, belittling, demeaning.
An allusion to the African slave term and reflection of inherent racism. The generic title removes the
individuality of the driver. An assertion of power. * Police car seen leaving in rear view mirror
(possible link between abandonment of Australian government concerning indigenous issues).
* Lena sits in the back seat, next to another young, fair skinned Aboriginal woman. She has a toddler
on her lap. Again, that theme of pregnancy is raised and in response to the child s cries, the driver
turns and slaps her across the face. This scene seems to highlight the negative aspects of Aboriginal
culture that is, the subordination of women and prevalence of domestic violence. * L: Stop the fucking
car... I said, stop the fucking car. To the driver: you re an arsehole, you know that. * She takes a stand,
noticeably Vaughn and the girl herself do not. Quiet acceptance of such exchanges. When out of

Phoenix Simulation Essay 2017
Although the Saturday at Phoenix Simulation was full of fun, friends, and imaginative stations, there
was no other station that represented the hallmark of days that changed the world than Camp Feenicks,
with the greatest attention to detail and simple objective while managing to emphasize this year s
theme.
There was only one thing that everyone noticed as we walked through the Black Box Theater: this
camp looked like the real deal! The dim lighting and ambient sounds of river flow and crickets
through the surround sound speakers gave us the sensation of a peaceful night out under the stars. This
was combined with a crackling fire meticulously strung together with sticks, vibrant construction

As Sun Tzu once said, Know your enemy and know yourself and in a hundred battles you will never
be in peril . Statistically, there was only a minuscule chance of unanimously voting out the werewolf
tent. However, if you were not afraid to ask questions, analyze the characteristics of the other groups,
and use rhetoric to persuade others to follow in your footsteps, then you were the best suited to
complete the task. Every new day was a day that changed the world or, in this case, the camp and it
relied on the cooperation and deductive reasoning of each of the tents to decide on which tent smelled
of a little more werewolf than the others. Camp Feenicks, therefore, suggested that you must seek
knowledge before making decisions because every move you make will have a significant impact on
the future. This global connection to theme as well demonstrated in the story was the final reason why
Camp Feenicks was the single best station in Phoenix

Personal Experience Of Stereotyping
We all use stereotyping, and most of the time we don t even realize we are. I lived in a small town
surrounded by people who shared the same beliefs as me. I would have never thought that I would
ever experience stereotyping. And I may have experienced and honestly never noticed it. But this
experience stood out. It was a Saturday early morning, and I was picked up by one of my Wards
leader. I had rode in a car with these other girls and we were driving to Provo to see the newly built
temple. We met with the rest at the temple. Once we were done. We had decided to go and have fun
and then eat. We separated Boys and girls. The boys went to eat, while the girls went to the mall.
While we were at the mall I had wandered from the group

Driving Under The Influence Of Drunk Driving
Driving under the influence (DUI), in numbers
Over 1.1 million drivers were arrested in 2014 for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.1
In the same year, 9,967 people died in drunk driving crashes while 290,000 were injured.2 Lest we
forget, these dry statistics represent real people.
Evidently, drunk driving remains to be one of the notorious banes in the society. Fortunately, this is
not without recourse. Organizations such as MADD3 and ridesharing platforms like Uber4 have been
working toward ensuring that drunk drivers have more options and access to safe rides.
Effects of ridesharing platforms on drunk driving accidents

Rabit And The Wolf In One Flew Over The Poo s
Institutionalized. Ken Kasey uses the rabit and wolf theme to illustrate the harm an institutioncan take
on a man s self worth. By using this metaphor that portrays a loss of confidence, intimidation, and
paranoia one undergos when dealing with such a harsh system. Through this loss of confidence, Kasey
demonstrates how an institution can enable a person s ability to make decisions upon themselves.
Overtime they believe this type of authority is needed to survive, as Dale Harding explains to a new
patient, We need a good strong wolf like the nurse to teach us our place (55). This speculates that a
necessary requirement of their being is soley based on one powerful individual providing them with a
list of rules. By not believing in your individuality prevents someone from discovering their own true
masculanity. The intimidation factor claims that patients must subdue themselves the policies in place
or face the consequences. Ruling the ward is the Big Nurse, who regulates any unacceptable behavior
by reminding them to ... cooperate with the staff policy which is engineered for your cure, or you ll
end up on that side (19). This threatening tone reflect the trained, skilled, and constructed ideology the
staff condones all patients to follow. By leaving out any specifc ... Show more content on

Some enter the ward with this mental disorder while the author supposes some develop this paranoia
overtime as Chief Bromden nervously states, ...nobody ever lets loose and laugh, the whole staff d be

the watchful eye of authority or each other is to be aware of their own behaviors and emotions. This
Reaction points out that one can t gain true perspective on themselves since revealing their true selves

The Capability Approach By Amartya Sen
Amartya Sen.
Amartya Sen is a highly respected, award winning economist, writer and philosopher. A voice of the
poor and malnourished, energetically engaged in the issues of the general public s poorest individuals,
he has contrived answers for nourishment lack and starvation. At present a Professor of Economics
and Philosophy at Harvard University, Sen has likewise been a Professor at the London School of
Economics and The University of Oxford. He has won a variety of prestigious awards including the
Bharat Ratna, the most prominent civilian award in India. In 1954, he was granted the Adam Smith

Regardless of whether individuals take up the alternatives they have, the fact that they do have
valuable options is significant. For instance, regardless of the possibility that the dietary condition of
individuals who are fasting and starving is the same, the way that fasting is a choice ought to be
perceived. In this manner assessment must be sensitive to both genuine accomplishments and
successful opportunity.
4. Evaluation of how well people are doing must seek to be as open minded as possible. Each
individual s reality is different and complicated and any evaluation should portray this complexity into
consideration. This leads to the deliberate under theorization of the Capability Approach that has been
the source of some criticism.
A critical part of Sen s argument for the Capability Approach identifies with his critique of alternative
philosophical and economics accounts. Specifically, he argues that, whatever their specific qualities,
none of them give an examination of prosperity that is suitable as a general idea; they are all centered
on the wrong specific things (whether utility, freedom or essential merchandise). Sen s reactions of
economic utilitarianism and John Rawls primary goods are especially vital in the development of his
record and its

  • 2. Weak Figurative Language AJR s song Weak ,addresses the struggles of battling temptations and coming to terms with them. The song portrays a young man fighting to gain control over his habits, but inability giving in, convincing himself there s nothing wrong with being weak. Consequently the speaker begins to associate love and joy to submitting to his temptations. Weak makes use of many types of figurative language to convey this theme of giving in to temptations. Although there are many examples of figurative language the most prevalent forms are metaphors and similes. The speaker states: But temptations of trouble on my tongue, troubles yet to come ( 2 ). This metaphor comparing trouble to being on the end of his tongue is used to represent how temptations are surrounding the speaker, and how he is growing closer to falling for them. This quote plays a major role in the construction of the theme by introducing the reader to the influences the speaker is attempting to resist. Another crucial quote use by the speaker is: My habits, they hold me like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker states: One sip, bad for me/ One hit, bad for me/ One kiss, bad for me ( 3 5 ). Although in moderation none of these things are truly bad for health the speaker uses this combination of hyperboles and refrain to emphasize how it only takes one time to become addicted. This series of lines reveals the speaker s awareness of his addictive personality and trying to prevent addiction but he ultimately fails. The Final example of refrain is when the speaker writes: I m weak/ But I m weak, and what s wrong with that? ( 13 14 ). The repetition of these two lines throughout the song play a major part in depicting the speaker going back and forth trying to convince himself it s ok to be weak in order to coax with his bad deeds. This use of a coaxing mechanism shows the speaker has completely given in to his temptations and accepted his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Indonesian Vs. Bahasa Indonesian Indonesia is a country that is described as having a beautiful scenery and is gorgeous place to live. This doesn t mean that something with a beautiful scenery does not have any flaws that come with it. Indonesia consists of a group of islands located in Southeast Asia and is between the Indian and the Pacific Ocean. The proper language that is spoken is known as Indonesian or Bahasa Indonesian . This is the most common language that is spoken in Indonesia; but is not the only one that is used. Indonesian was first developed in the year 1945, when the declaration of Indonesian independence was first drawn up. Although Indonesian is known as the official language, it is actually the second most used language in Indonesia. Most of the population speaks languages such as Minangkabau or Javanese. These languages are typically spoken at households and the public. Indonesian on the other hand is commonly used at work and in school. The ethnic groups that are usually found in Indonesia include: Javanese (45%), Sundanese (14%), Madurese (7.5%), Coastal Malays (7.5%), and other (26%). Out of these ethnic groups the main religion that is practiced is Muslim (88%) followed by Protestant (5%), Roman Catholic (3%), Hindu (2%), Buddhist (1%) and other (1%). In extension to Indonesians, they are a mix of Chinese, European, Indian, and Malay and even though there population consists of mainly Muslims, they also have a vast amount of Christian Protestants, Catholics, Hindus, and Buddhists. ... • 4. Emerald Ash Borer Research Paper What is an invasive species? An invasive species is a species not native to an area, in this case not native to the Great Lakes area. A non native species is a species that originally was not in a certain location but was brought there and causes a lot of damage. An invasive species also is a great danger to the environment and can cause damage to humans, plants, and animals. In Illinois and the Great Lakes area there are more than 180 invasive and non native species. That means a lot of damage is made into our environment. One particular invasive species is Agrilus planipennis, more commonly known as emerald ash borer. What is the life cycle of the emerald ash borer? The emerald ash borer adult males live an average of 13 days, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people think that to get rid of them we have to cut down the ash trees but that is not true. Recently in Burnsville, this summer it injected 14 ash trees at City Hall with pesticide to protect them against the emerald ash borer. Deborah McCullough, a professor of entomology and forestry at Michigan State University. Based on her research, she says: There is no reason for a landscape ash tree to die from emerald ash borer anymore. The treatment is so effective and so much cheaper than removal and replacement that I can t get a single elected official to weigh in on the side of removing healthy trees because we don t have to, and that is never popular with the public. Private ash trees that were not injected are dead, while treated ash trees on city property stand nearby in good health. Michigan and Ohio State research shows that injecting Tree age provides at least two years of almost 100 percent control of larvae, McCullough said. Applying pesticides every two years costs about $250 a tree, while removal and replacement is $700 to $1,200 a tree. The company says the product is a safe, organic option. We should try that option instead of cutting down trees. This would help protect the area of great lakes from emerald ash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But the first one that I will be covering is the Anti social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. This will help to protect the victims who were involved in harmful relationships. With the act introducing new powers it gives the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This act also gives people who have committed anti social behaviour to clean up the community e.g. graffiti, litter. This will benefit everybody in the community because the people will know they are being punished and will have less of a chance of re offending and the community will be cleaner. The offenders are the most affected by section 30 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 in my opinion because If any members of the public have been intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed as a result of the behaviour of groups of two or more persons in public places in any area the police can interfere. You can be stopped and searched if there is suspicion that they will or might commit anything that may damage society or create a disturbance, for example it gives the police the power to separate groups of more than 2 if the police feel they may be up to no good. It will also affect the younger generation because the act gives police officers the power to send under 16s home after 9pm if they are seemed to be suspicious, this will prevent any anti social behaviour to occur. This will also affect the local communities because it will make the people living in the community a lot more secure and safe in their housing knowing any people out after 9pm will be being watched and sent home by the police if they are misbehaving. The police force may also be impacted because each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, after interviewing my grandma, Christine Meyer, who was born on April 24, 1938, I realized that many of my views varied quite drastically from my grandma s. Christine was born and raised in the country just outside of Bonfield, Illinois. It s a very small town about 60 miles south of Chicago, Illinois. She had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom were all older than her. Her mother died of cancer when Christine was 20 years old and her dad then remarried. By choosing to marry someone you are marrying into another family. My grandma and I had similar views on who family consisted of and how we would define it. When I asked her if her views on who family consisted of has changed over time she answered with, No, I don t think my views on family have changed overtime. I think my thoughts on family are similar with the same concept of that family consists of the people you are blood related too as well as the people you marry and then later your children if you choose to have them. The Women s Lives Multicultural Perspective book brings up the idea of the ideal nuclear family. According to Kirk and Rey (2010), the ideal nuclear family consists of a hetereosexual couple, married for life, with two or three children. The father is the provider while the wife/mother spends her days running the home (pg. 309). When I asked my grandmother if she believed in this concept when she was younger she said yes and answered with a more detailed response which included this. My husband worked long hours as well as raised cattle and farmed. We helped each other when necessary, but generally stuck to traditional roles of me being the housekeeper, cook, etc.... and him being the main breadwinner. I feel like many families today don t actually fit under the ideal nuclear family. Many women are now the ones who fulfill the role of primary breadwinner or are equal in their jobs working as hard as the men to maintain their family and help bring in an income. Additionally, many families have more than two children or nowadays it is becoming more socially acceptable to marry the same gender. (QOUTE ABOUT LESBIAN OR GAY COUPLES) For example, my parents had four children and I know many others who have more than four children in their families. • 7. Analysis of Database Management and Information Retrieval... Differentiate between database management system and information retrieval system by focusing on their functionalities. Answer: What is database management system? Database Management System is a database program. The DBMS manage incoming data, organize it, and provided ways for the data to be modified or extract by users or other programs. This cause, most database software comes with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver that allows the database to integrate with other databases. For example, common SQL statements such as SELECT and INSERT are translated from a program s proprietary syntax into a syntax other databases can understand. Some DBMS examples include PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, FileMaker, RDBMS, dBASE, Clipper, and FoxPro. It is a software system that uses a standard method of retrieving, and running queries on data. What is information retrieval system? Informational Retrieval System is the activity of obtaining information resources relevant to an information need from a collection of information resources. Web search engines are the most visible. Search can be based on metadata or on full text (or other content based) indexing. Automated information retrieval systems are used to reduce what has been called information overload . Although she is one of the worst characters in this story, she definitely is one of the most interesting ones. Because she is such a dynamic character, there are many ways to analyze her. Abigail also makes you change your point of view on her once the plot develops. She states that her name has no blush in the village but there are many reasons why that is farthest from the truth. For starters, Abigal is a pathological liar, which is one of the 10 comandments. You drank blood, Abby... You drank a charm to kill John Proctor s wife (Miller, 1136 1137). On page 1154, Abigail tells Reverand Hale that she didn t drink chicken blood when confronted, but soon after confesses to him that when Tituba conjured spirits, she forced her to drink the blood. Fate In How Mordred In the chapter of Malory s How Mordred was Born and King Arthur Learned of His Parentage , Arthur decides to go an an adventure and, along the way gets into multiple altercations. During his travels, Arthur meets Merlin who then decides to accompany him. Some important themes that are seen in this prose romance are death, power, courage and most importantly fate. The author suggests that fate is completely predetermined, there is no ways to change the outcome of one s life. The idea that life is based solely on fate will be seen through battles, tools given to ensure survival, Merlin s powerful influence, as well as incest. Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to tell him you have lain by your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you and all the knights of your realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the ends of Mordred. This shows that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not change. Arthur knows Modred will kill him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s advice and to have all children born on May day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send out all of these children is to make sure that the son he conceived will not be his demise. Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is predetermined no matter the course he chooses. To conclude, Malory, in the chapter How Mordred was Born and Arthur Learned of His Parentage , shows that Arthur s fate is already made for him; that none of the choices he makes will change how his life is supposed to end. • 13. Exclusion As A Form Of Control Exclusion as a form of control is contingent upon the belief what you are excluding is the problem. Usually however, what is being excluded, like a criminal, is the symptom of a much bigger problem (a failing education system, poverty...etc). Additionally, the idea that a human can be fixed in a psychiatric facility is also contingent on there being one source and one problem that can be identified and dealt with. Humans are complex, and we can t assume to know how effecting one part will effect the whole. Again, complexity is disregarded for the sake of the image that is at stake. Disease is part of nature, and on an environmental level it is a natural form of population control. There is a sort of ignorant arrogance that comes with being a human in society. We don t try and live in harmony with nature, and accept death from disease as a natural process, rather we fight nature and do our best to outsmart it through inventions like antibiotics. We use nature to our advantage when it is convenient, but we disregard it when it threatens our structures and rules. In contrast, it is worth noting that war, which also contributes to premature death and goes against society s ideals is not nearly as obsessed upon. There is no war awareness month like there is a breast cancer awareness month. The reason for this is because war is much more complex and a product of our own boundaries. Yes, we say things like war is bad or terrorists are evil but it is exactly that kind of dichotomous thinking that perpetuates the violence. Actually eliminating war would mean shifting the way we interact with each other in the world. It would mean not simplifying people to good and bad, but accepting everyone with their differences. The noise of confusion overpowered the sound of raindrops that shattered on the tile roofs. People strolled out of their houses with curiosity about the commotion at the centre of the village. The villagers held deadly weapons in their tight grasps that seem capable of mutilating the mightiest of beasts. • 20. Persuasive Essay On Community Service The options for community service are endless. After narrowing down my options, I applied to volunteer at the Crystal Lake Public Library this past summer. Having to go in for an interview was a new experience for me, considering how I have never applied for a job. I believe that the exposure to the interview process did two things for me: first, it put me out of my comfort zone, and second, it taught me invaluable lessons about applying for future jobs and programs. This is because I am the kind of person who can get nervous easily, and I struggle to hide it sometimes. An interview is a type of situation that I would feel nervous in; however, I was able to overcome my fear and apply to the library anyways. Therefore, I learned what I should expect to be asked, and I understand how I should properly respond. Once I was accepted to the library s volunteer network, I was able to choose which department I would work for in order to serve the community. By volunteering at the library, I improved the Youth Services department, particularly by participating in the Adopt a Shelf program. One part of my job was to rearrange the books in the correct order when they got disorganized. This made it easier for parents and children to find the books, movies, and CDs they were looking for. Another task that I enjoyed was replacing the books to their proper location from the clean up cart. It is important for books to be on the shelves where they belong because otherwise it appears that books are not available. My favorite part of volunteering for the library, however, was getting to help kids pick out the books they were looking for. I remember many of the people I helped, but one of my fondest moments occurred on one of my first days. I was working in the junior fiction department, and there was a young girl there. She wanted to find a new series of books to read for the summer reading program. It was special to show her the novels that I read when I was her age, especially when she chose to start the Mother Daughter Book Club books: my favorite series in middle school. Religion And Its Effect On Society Religion plays a large role in today s society, it s used to comfort us in our greatest times of need as well as explain seemingly unknowable questions, such as what is the meaning of life, why are we here, what happens when we die, why do we suffer but now as in the past religion can be a harmful factor in our society. It has been the cause of wars, witch hunts, and proliferated superstition. Today there are such laws that allow a parent to deny their child adequate medical care even if it s to treat a potentially life threatening illness. In other cases religion is cited as a reason to deny someone access to birth control. In school s modern science is at times having to contend with creationism which seems to be a reinterpreting of modern science and is in complete opposition with established facts. One particular time, he was arrested for protesting the rights of African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama. First, an apostle is defined as each of the twelve chief disciples of Jesus Christ (Apostle). They carried the message that Jesus preached to them out into the world. So, Paul and the other prophet s jobs were to leave their villages and go spread the gospel throughout neighboring cities of Jesus Christ. King also references a specific instance where Paul experiences a vision. In Acts 16:6 10, Paul has a vision of a man in Macedonian that is calling for him to come and help the people there (Acts 16). The next day, Paul heads to a major city in the region to begin serving the people (Acts 16). This is the first Biblical reference found in the letter that King uses in supporting his points. Martin Luther King Jr. uses Paul s story to show the commonalities between each other and their actions. He states, like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid (King Jr.). This is a powerful analogy where King shows his feelings of constantly being called to go out and serve others in need (King Jr.). He feels that until equality is granted to everyone, there will be a need for him to go and serve. To King, this is a feeling of being compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond [his] particular hometown (qtd Aeschliman). • 35. Demand and Supply Demand and supply The term demand refers to the quantity of a given product that consumers will be willing and able to buy at a given price. As a general common sense rule the higher the price of a particular product the lower will be the demand for it . The term supply refers to the quantity of a particular product that suppliers (producers and/or sellers) will make available to the market at a particular price. The higher the price, the greater the quantity that suppliers will be willing to supply to the market. Markets consist of individual or groups of businesses that are prepared to supply a product, and customers who demand the product. In the modern high tech world there are also important factors that influence supply. Nowhere is this truer than in the development of new production technologies leading to the production of high volume low cost goods. For example, in recent years Coca Cola has developed high tech canning factories that use less costly and cheaper materials in the production of cans. Wants a want is simply a desire for a product; it is not the same thing as demand. Effective demand refers to a desire for a product that is backed up by a purchasing decision. For demand to be effective the consumer needs to have the money required to make the purchase. Elasticity of demand refers to the sensitivity of demand to a change in price. The more sensitive demand is (i.e. the more it changes) to a price change the more elastic it is said to be. Actions Whats this? • 36. Essay about The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini From generation to generation, the constant struggle for males to live up to the expectations of their fathers often affects the choices made and actions taken by the sons. Perhaps, the overbearing testosterone levels claim responsibility for the apparent need for sons to impress their fathers, but not all boys consider the realistic consequences of their decisions. In Khaled Hosseini s novel The Kite Runner, young Amir s admiration for his father Baba, coupled with the constant tension in their relationship obscures his mind from making clear decisions as he strives to obtain his father s love and approval. Amir and his father share a very strained relationship. The saying, The apple doesn t fall far from the tree, inaccurately relates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amir, representing the Pashtuns and high society Afghanis, allows himself to degrade Hassan, the face of the mere Hazaras of the lowest class rank. Through the eyes of Amir, it seems as though Baba preoccupies himself passing time with his comrade Rahim Khan; when he sporadically attempts to involve Amir in his life, Baba always suggests that Hassan accompany them in their daily adventures leaving Amir questioning why his father tries desperately to avoid alone time and bonding moments with his son. The initial occurrences in which Amir witnesses Baba s immediate affection for Hassan drive Amir s negative mental attitude and envy towards his only companion Hassan. Hosseini utilizes outside environmental factors to contribute to the preeminating assumption of Amir s character. The actions taken in response to external stimuli convey the true nature of not only the protagonist Amir but his genuine friend and unknown half brother Hassan. The two juvenile Afghani boys face many challenges growing up in Kabul; bullies taunt and threaten them routinely. Assef, the leader among the tormentors, inadvertently plays a key role in determining the measures taken by Amir in order to gain the acceptance of his father. Under repetitive harassment and criticism, Amir rarely fights against his subjugation. Baba discerns his son s predominant flaw: cowardice. In his mentality, Baba believes that a boy who won t stand up for himself becomes a man who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote does not sound like the description of a typical Saint, but Francis of Assisi was certainly not a typical Saint. Initially, Francis undertaking of replicating the life of Jesus over a millennium removed from his time on Earth was not taken well by Italian society and many considered him to be a madman. In response he said, I will marry a nobler and fairer bride than you ever saw, who shall surpass all others in beauty and excel them in wisdom. The lady he was referring to was Lady Poverty. He would go on to sell off all his possessions including his own horse and attempted to give the money to the decaying St. Damian Church which the priest would not accept. It is worth noting that the priest did not take the money because he found the change of heart within Francis startling. The priest was amazed, and wondering at a change of circumstances incredibly sudden, refused to believe what he heard; and, thinking he was being hoaxed, he would not keep the offered money. • 40. Egoism And Ethical Egoism Egoism is the idea of self interest. It elicits what controls, and give the ambitions our self interest. When philosophers carefully observed egoism. Their thesis of egoism voiced that our intuition controls what we do and there is two form of self interest. We have descriptive which they think temporarily that people s drives instantaneous aspiration. The normative way is where our self interest is developed based on experience and power. Theories of egoism also study the intentions behind our actions. For example, do we act for love, religion, or wealth? Who benefits from our actions, is it the individual or the whole of society? Two theories exist that try to answer these questions, namely the theories of Ethical Egoism and Psychological Egoism. Ethical Egoism is the normative theory that our self concept should not be viewed as solitary but instead as part of society. In this respect, our actions should also be for the benefit of society. Ethical Egoism isn t about self deprivation, but rather about helping yourself by helping others as well. It relies not just on improving one s self but also on improving the structure of society. The strong version of Ethical Egoism states that everything we do for our own good is moral and must always be promoted. The weak version states that although acting for one s own good is usually for the good of society on the whole, there may be conditions in which personal desires have to be suppressed in order to maintain social morality. The weak version integrates the individual into society in such a way that he or she must be willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of others. In contradiction to Ethical Egoism, Psychological Egoism presents itself as a much different perspective altogether. Psychological Egoism is the descriptive variant that states all human actions to be the result of selfishness. The core of this theory focuses on a different definition of self concept or ego. However, there are many identifiable fallacies of Psychological Egoism. Firstly, the theory is based on intangible terminologies of the inner self that cannot be physically examined. Furthermore, when we do try to study Psychological Egoism in terms of scientific observations such as human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
